Marine Corps to be Reestablished

OSLO (CTB): Defence Minister Karin Park (Moderate) announced yesterday that the Royal Cottish Marine Corps, which was disbanded six years ago as a result of the first Defence White Paper after Cotland's territorial holdings were granted independence, was to be reestablished and reorganized. The announcement is entirely in line with the Gardason administration's promises before the election to strengthen the military.

The Marine Corps was disbanded by the Rothsky Administration in 2002 as a result of the independence granted to almost all of Cotland's colonies and overseas territories where the Marines had been garrisoned previously. In order to save money and shorten a then-oversized military organization, millions of servicemen were dismissed from service and hundreds of units disbanded, saving billions of Rikskroner.

Unfortunately, the massive downsizing of forces was premature. As a result of the August Skirmish, it was determined that the current force structure was insufficient to adequately defend the Realm and its interests from hostile-minded nation-states. As a result, the Gardason Administration has pledged to restructure the Armed Forces to reflect the changed threats posed towards the Realm and its interests.

Defense Minister Park said that a total of five divisions would initially be formed, numbered one through five, and be granted the unit history and battle honors of the former units. Each Marine Division will according to Defense Minister Park be capable of carrying out entirely autonomous operations, and will be a true combined-arms formation with armored, artillery, MLRS and mechanized infantry assets within its ranks.

The Defense Minister said that each of the divisions would number roughly eleven thousand troops. The initial personell would according to the Defense Minister be assembled from former Marine Corps personell who were amalgated into the Army's ranks or dismissed from service, as well as increase conscription numbers by fifty thousand per year.

The reformed Marine Corps will retain the elite stamp of the old organization, and conscripts who wish to join the Marine Corps must specifically request it at Basic Selection and pass strickt requirements in order to be allowed to call themselves Cottish Marines.

The Marine Corps will initially be organized under the Army, which will provide equipment and support for the Marines while the dedicated Marine Corps support infrastructure is rebuilt.

The five divisions will be organized into a single Army Corps, but will be deployed to different parts of the Realm and overseas.

* The First Marine Division will be deployed to Saint Petersburg where it will be part of Defense District Northwest and help defend Saint Petersburg from any would-be hostile force.
* The Second Marine Division will be permanently forward deployed to Guantanamo Bay on Cuba in the Empire of Layarteb, where the division will specialize in amphibious and combat operations in tropical conditions.
* The Third Marine Division will be deployed to the Netherlands, where it will be part of Defense District West and help defend the Low Counties from any would-be hostile force.
* The Fourth Marine Division will be deployed to Denmark, where it will be part of Defense District West and help defend Denmark and the Skagerrak Strait from any would-be hostile force.
* The Fifth Marine Division will be deployed to Arkhangelsk, where it will be part of Defense District Southeast and specialize in amphibious and combat operations in arctic conditions.

The first two divisions are expected to be formed within the end of the year with full operational readiness achieved by mid-2009, and all five divisions are expected to be formed and operational within the end of 2009 with full operational readiness achieved by the end of 2010.

Layarteb, the spreadsheet needs some updating. More specifically, the Cottish military currently stands at 1.4 million men and women, or 1.27% of the population. Additionally, the Prime Minister is no longer Thomas Rothsky as you know, but rather Sverre Gardason, and the currency abbreviation is CKr, not K. That's about it.

I'll be revamping my national factbook over the next couple of weeks so stay tuned.

The American public is going to sit back and let it happen and not care because to the vast majority of Americans, the notion of safety trumps actual safety or freedom.

When you outlaw guns, only outlaws have guns. Guns are more necessary now as they were in 1775 and 1800 and 1863 and 1901 and 1943 and 1968 and 1991 and 2001 and so on and so fourth. They have gained neither necessity or lost necessity because they were always a cruciality. If they weren't the 2nd Amendment wouldn't exist.

I love that argument that only outlaws would have guns. But that is my view, I am not going to get into a debate because I know there is no way I could change your mind.

@ Brink, if only the American populace wasn't so retardedly apathetic and willing to let the government strip away its rights. People are, regardless of what laws are coming out, way too comfortable to object. Despite all the troubles, they're still buying what they want for Christmas, still driving their expensive cars, still making ends meet, etc. Even if we hit a depression you won't see a universal uproar against things. At that point they'll be too scared and by then, it'll be too late. The precedent this sets is the biggest enemy of all.

The Amazonian Control Territory? Along borders with the Empire it's like a brick wall. Along land that isn't part of the Empire it's secure but not impenetrable. There are a lot of tunnels there from the wars in Venezuela and Mato Grosso, some of the tunnels date back to the 1960s. We've tried to close them off but there's many, many more we just don't know about yet. Planning something?

IMPERIAL LAYARTEBIAN MILITARY TO RECEIVE UPGRADED F-35 AIRCRAFT

January 4, 2008 - WASHINGTON CITY

The Imperial Layartebian Military announced today that they will be receiving upgraded F-35 Lightning II models on all newly built airframes and upgrades to previously existing airframes. Currently, there are 3,176 F-35As in service with the ILAF and ILDF and an additional 534 F-35Bs in service with the ILN. Plans include upgrading all "A" variants to a newer "D" airframe and the "B" variants to a newer "F" variant. Additionally, both the ILN and ILAF plan to procure up to 952 new electronic-warfare "E" variants to replace aging EA-5F Vigilante EW aircraft.

The announcement comes after months of deliberation. The F-35D Lightning II, which will replace the F-35A was originally designed alongside the original three variants. It combines the three airframes and creates a CTOL variant for the air force with the extra lift and fuel capacity of the "C" variant but without the necessary strengthening for carrier operations. The F-35D will also feature upgraded avionics and countermeasures that are now in service with the F-56 Savage II and F-57 Wraith. It will feature an internal 27mm cannon replacing the GAU-22/U Equalizer. Ammunition will be upped from 180 rounds to 300 rounds, each round harder hitting with almost double the amount of energy per round. Standard ammunition loads will include HE-I and AP rounds. Additionally, the F-35D will receive a slight modification to its internal weapon's bay, allowing for 650 pound class stores held on the inner pylon and air-to-air weaponry capable on the outer pylon, giving the F-35D an increased lethality in an air-to-air mission mode.

From the F-35D comes the EF-35E Lightning II, a dedicated electronic warfare variant. The EF-35E substitutes the internal cannon and some fuel, giving it the same fuel level as the "A" variant for a stand-off, all-encompassing jamming system. The AESA radar of the Lightning II has limited EW capabilities but the capabilities of the EF-35E will surpass those of the EA-18 Growler, EA-5 Vigilante, EF-111 Raven, EA-6 Prowler, and a proposed EA-12 Avenger II. Additionally, the EF-35E retains the same weapon's capabilities as the F-35D giving it the ability to perform a multirole mission. If a gun is required it can mount a podded 27mm cannon, which is also available to the new "F" variant. Both the F-35D and EF-35E have heavier empty weights and a maximum take-off weight upgraded to 70,000 pounds.

The F-35F Lightning II is an MLU update to the F-35B Lightning II. The "F" variant is upgraded with the avionics of the "D" variant and includes the ability to carry a 27mm gun pod with 250 rounds, replacing the 225 round GAU-22/U that the "B" variant carried.

Newly built Lightning IIs will be built with these standard and existing variants will be upgraded. All EF-35s are to be new built. The total value for the EF-35 contract is $119 billion at $125 million per airframe. The first EF-35E squadron is expected to reach IOC in November 2008 and the conversion process for the F-35As will begin in March 2008 and last through 2009. The navy F-35Fs will be converted by the end of 2008.

Military Orders New Planes, Vehicles

His Majesty's Government announced a number of large purchases for His Majesty's Armed Forces yesterday. It was announced that the existing fleet of aging B-1B Lancer strategic bombers will be decommissioned and replaced with the brand new COT.50A Ragnarok supersonic strategic bomber, which offers the same capabilities of the aging B-1B at a lower cost and enhanced preformance. A total of 192 COT.50s will be purchased, enough to fully replace the B-1B fleet which is deployed with the twelve Bomb Squadrons of 119, 142 and 198 Wings of the Royal Cottish Air Force.

Additionally, it was announced that all Stridskjøretøy-9035 Infantry Fighting Vehicle and its deteriatives currently in service with the Royal Cottish Army will be fully replaced by the Stridskjøretøy-57 Heimdall infantry combat vehicle and its deteriatives and the Stridskjøretøy-58 Tor armored personell carriers and its deteriatives. The Strk.57 Heimdall family is a vast improvement over the CV90, and will ensure the safety and security of the Realm's borders, citizens and interests throughout the world for the future decades to come. Additionally, the Strk.58 Tor and its family of vehicles will fully replace the Sisu XA-186s and M113 family of vehicles that have served the Realm up to now. Replacement is expected to begin in the first quarters of FY2009, with total replacement planned to be completed by the end of FY2011. A total of 1400 Strk.57 vehicles and 6780 Strk.58 vehicles have been ordered by the Royal Cottish Army.

As well as new fighting vehicles, it was revealed that His Majesty's Government has entered high-level negotiations with the Layartebian Defence Corporation to aquire a "substantial amount" of the new M2061 Reaver and its deteriatives, including the medium multiple-launch rocket system and the rockets to go with this system. Exact figures are not yet released, but sources indicate that His Majesty's Government is looking to fully replace the existing M270A1 MLRS and M142A1 HIMARS systems currently in service.

In all, His Majesty's Government is looking to sink several dozen billions into His Majesty's Armed Forces over the next few years.

Well here's some great news. I left this afternoon to go do Christmas shopping, computer was a-okay, and when I came home it won't boot. So now the master boot record is fubar'd!!! So I might be offline for some time until one of my friend's who knows how to fix it can help me out with it.

No it was something else that corrupted the MBR. I managed to get through checkdisk and some error fixing and I'm finishing up defrag now but it looks like I'll be back online by the end of the night.

Well I'm back online. Got into Windows through F8 and Last Known Good Configuration and then into checkdisk. I let that run, built a boot disk from 3.5" floppies (Yes I have one), got into Windows XP Recovery, rebuilt the MBR, then got into bios and fiddled around, fixed the boot, got back into Windows, defragged, and thus here I am. Working again, let's hope it holds. Possibly causes include disk error (probably), partitioning software (possibly), virus (checked and I'm clean), or something else unexplained. Let's hope it holds...

Anywho, I want to share a few things. From Wednesday through Tuesday I'm out of town, first to Buffalo (maybe into Canuckistan even) and then to Baltimore.

So yeah I am in fucking Canada now. Its snowing, Im living on a 35th floor so I got a nice view of the city and I can see U.S. from my balcony. I also bought some Baltika beer in a grocery store, fucking Baltika! I thought they only sold them in Russia. It was about 5 times as expensive as it is in Russia but thats alright. So far I like this place.

Unless prices have changed since summer 2006 a bottle of Baltika is 35 roubles, which is a little over one US dollar. I paid 4.62 Canadian dollars for two bottles. Like I said its not bad, they had to import it and shit. Now if I can find a liter or two of Slavyanskaya vodka and a 3 liter plastic bottle of Stepan Razin beer I'll feel completely at home.

I only had good smirnoff once, it was called triple distilled or something, other types of it just don't do it for me. In US I drank mostly Grey Goose or Pinnacle both of which are french but they have their advantages, Grey Goose is readily available and Pinnacle comes in a half a gallon bottle.

Hello guys, its been a while. I guess I should explain my absence.

Back on the 26th November about 5.30pm I was riding home and someone pulled out on me. I crashed my bike at about 25mph into this car and broke my spine in two places. I also took a blow to my head, although my helmet took it and basically saved my life. However, after being rushed to hospital in excruciating pain and going through a life-saving operation the next day I am now paralysed from the waist down, around T12. Its been about six weeks now since the op and for the last three weeks I've been in rehab attempting to put my life and myself back together. Unfortunately, now that I'm in a wheelchair I can't get back into my apartment so am waiting on somewhere to live that will suit my needs. I will probably be in hospital until March so hopefully I will have somewhere then, but for me its still a long road, although I'm confident by the time I get out I will be fully independent as I am doing quite well already. I will keep in contact with you but I doubt I'll be able to RP again until I get more settled in a couple of months.

In the meantime, I'm thankful to God that I am still alive and that I can still see and talk to my family. Its also good to read this old forum again!

I want to extend it into the Americas through an underwater tunnel project that will connect Alaska and Chukotka. All participant nations of Eurasian Line plus all nations in the Americas are invited.

I expected a lot of resistance from the OA camp and bringing up economic deals between the Federation and them I thought was going to give them too much room to maneuver out of any agreements. Everyone has deals with someone, even if it doesn't involve the Federation, thats why I thought people would be interested. Trade deals and all of that I was going to bring up after the summit, on an individual nation by nation basis since I doubt that if we tie one big trade deal to the Line people are going to still be interested in it since everyone has their own interests and its better to design many trade deals that will attend to each nation's interest rather make one big one that might be good for some but bad for others. Granting the Line a special economic status is another thing, its basically to ensure that regardless of trade deals between the Federation and any other Line nation the products passing through the line will not be stopped by any nation the line goes through. I just thought that would be an easier deal for everyone to agree too.

What I mean is that there has to be an operative framework for it to work. Even if there isn't something as complex as a FTA, a small deal is still necessary- for example, companies who use the Line don't have to pay tariffs (or have a reduced one) and/or have access to the markets the Line goes through. You can't just expect countries to allow a tunnel (realize that's just an analogy- I know there's more to it than that) to go through their countries if they're not going to use it.

That's the source of contention.

But I have stated ICly, repeatedly, granting the Line the same special status the Great Eurasian Line enjoys, which is if Im correct means no tariffs. I guess I was unreasonably vague, but what else could I mean by a special economic status? As for opening up the markets, thats something I can not tie to this project, its something that will have to be decided nation by nation. Now Roman Empire and RF can have a trade agreement easily, plus Im sure Mari will increase his trade with you if you build the line. There is not enough trust built up politically for me to tie a trade agreement to this project and expect it to work, you probably already know who is going to walk out if I try to push it. We just have to take it one step out of time. A line with a special economic status should already attract everybody, because I am sure you are not in a situation there you can't find anyone to sign a trade agreement with. Anyways, lets get it moving again now that I think we're on the same page OOCly atleast.

I think I may have enough creativity to justify a bunch of anarchists of central and eastern Europe coupled with refugees from a Stalinist Spain banding together to form a multi-ethnic Confederation of free communes from whatever unclaimed territory is there.

I admit I'm being a bit hungry for asking whether I'm allowed to claim all that is white in the Europe of this map (http://www.forsakenoutlaw.com/Graphics/Nation-States/Earth2/Maps/europe.png) or not(which according to my calculations doesn't get past the maximum I would be allowed to claim as dictated by rule 4), but again, larger territory means larger borders, specially in the configuration it'll end like. And specially as I'll be sandwiched among major powers. It's a very... very lucky geopolitical situation for a bunch of anarchist to be right next to a Stalinist superpower(what I presume Nerotika is, but I may be wrong) and to have a border nearly as large as that which the Germans had to defend when they began losing in the Eastern Front.

Ironically, that area would make perfect sense for Prazinia, but I have never built that other NS for the intention of realism. Yes, I'm considering to join EII as Third Spanish States, no matter how weird it seems for a NS with such name to have its center in Poland. As for whether I may claim all or just half of that unclaimed territory, it's up to Layarteb to decide.
