I kind of wonder if there was an island that was the size of a football field and a couple of nations wanted it, would their be a war over it. I would laugh my ass off if war indeed was the remedy

new award category should be war over smallest piece of land

Well...this is going to be cliche...

Anyways, I've been sitting on the thought, and realized something...

My 1/3 Italian 1/3 Russian 1/3 German Empress of Japan is turning 16 and I don't really plan on doing an internal RP for a marriage.

Anyways, a bit of the history -

Akagawa Oro, aka The Empress *Akagawa Oro isn't her real name, her real name is Western and it has never been divulged what it truely is...*, took power after brutally making a comeback from Exile. At the age of 13, her twin brother abdicated to the throne and made a pact with the fledgling Parliament. According to this pact, the Parliament would retain both titles of Head of State and Head of the Government and the Emperor would be the God Celebrity of Japan with all the women and fine goods he could ever dream of. The 'Brat Emperor' as he soon came to be known as began to fear his older twin sister, older by 43 seconds. He spoke with the 'TMP', Temporary-Prime Minister at the time, about what he should do to make sure she could not harm him. They both decided to have her exiled to Iwo Jima. The thing is, there happened to be a very pro-Imperial Family in Power base of Marines and Sailors and regular Infantry. These men and women decided to support her in re-taking the Throne for her family, as they had all deemd her brother the 'Brat Emperor' at that moment.

She snuck into the mainland, but her brother soon found out from a letter she had sent him. They had both agreed to eat a dinner in reminascent of their dead parents. At this dinner, when they came to hug one another after the meal, Oro silently pulled out a Tanto as she came to hug him. When they embraced, she drove the Tanto in-between his 3rd and 4th Vertebrae, then once in his right Kidney, and again in his lung. As her last words to him, she whispered "I love you little brother." and let him slip out of her arms, dead. Ever since, she has been Empress and has retained most of her powers, but in order to prevent a massive Civil War, she had decided to keep the Parliament around but only as her own little puppet. All of that has only happened two years ago, and she is currently 15 going on to 16.

So yea, and to make things somewhat interesting, I was deciding whether or not if I should speak with someone interested on AIM or MSN to set something up. So yea, post if you find this near interesting.

On another note, I am writing my first NS-Story dubbed "Baptised in Blood". It is about how Isako *The spy in Fleet Week 06* came to be.

You know, the entire peace mixing with Rome just makes me mad.

*Roman, if there were such a Roman Empire/Republic today...it wouldn't opt for peace that fast*

Not necessarily. First of all, a nation of my age and stature would command A LOT of respect on the international scene. You don't survive as a major power for 2760 years without getting noticed.

Second of all, the RL Romans were pragmatists- they went to war with the peoples they could beat and made peace with those they couldn't.

Third of all the Romans were very much about honour. In their time, that meant war and glory, but today it's not very fashionable to declare war on everyone, thus actions change.

Fourth of all- and most importantly- the reason why I've made Rome a peaceful nation instead of one bent on war has much to do with how I've interpreted history to accommodate Rome's continued existence. I take Roman history until 475- right to the brink of the West's collapse- and "save" Rome at the last minute. Certainly a shock like the 5th Century would at least tell the people that making enemies causes more problems than it solves. Unrealistic? Not quite- no country is "great" all the time, and crises are bound to change the country's way of business throughout its history. Furthermore, the Romans did in fact survive one scare- The Crisis of the Third Century (http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crisis of the Third Century)- and came out of it far less war-like. You have to take into consideration a lot of things can happen in 1500-plus years, and that the values that were once the practice in the ancient period could not hold up today.

Well i did rule Russia with an iron fist for awhile and threaten war on my neighbors in order to unify russia and Europe together under communist rule. Hell i would of waged war against Pushka if only a couple of nations would of back me. Just think of that, one tyrant(me) would replace another tyrant(Pushka) But then i got into a war with the coaltion of the ass kicking and now im trying to act like Germany after WW2.

Most of whats happening isn't going on in my neck of the woods, i would say that Russia is exteremly peaceful despite hostle tensions between nations there

Simpler - Rome wouldn't care about people they could conquer as long as they were destroying eachother. If they could get more land and easy war to make the Legions feel bigger, they'd let people blow the fuck out of eachother so they could come in. Everytime I see one of those eurotrash (no offense to our European members here but some of those people are trash) I just want to unload a 12 gauge shotgun in their asshole and say, "Welcome to America. Now shut the fuck up." Plus their hypocritical too. They rag on us for stuff that other countries do and worse might I add.

I work with an Indian guy, Shaji, a Christain who lived in Riyadh for 16 years before coming to America. He wasn't even allowed to have a picture of Jesus Christ or else that meant SERIOUS punishment. I stay out of the General Board because all it is is, "Let's bash America for everything and anything under the sun, because their President is an idiot, because they have their political views, because they aren't like Europe politically, and because they are still all into God and stuff." Everytime I see one of those eurotrash (no offense to our European members here but some of those people are trash) I just want to unload a 12 gauge shotgun in their asshole and say, "Welcome to America.

That's alright though to these twits arguing in the General forum but God-forbid we wiretap suspected terrorists or allow people to own firearms, that is just wrong!

Somehow I think NS got split like so:

NS General: People who complain about the world's problems, or simply cannot think on a higher level and thus use 'shock and revolt' ideas to compensate for their stupidity or for the lack of attentions their parents give them. The goal for these people is to win a debate (philosophers know better)

NS RP (I.I. & Nationstates): People who try to fix the world's problems, although apparently most of the solutions involve massive ammounts of missiles. The goal of these people is to win the game, heightened intelligence comes as an unexpected and welcomed side-effect to many.

Don't call an Irishman European either, thats the one time he will forsake his Guiness, for the good of the nation, and will quickly have the entire glass embedded in the side of the face of the person who dared utter the word 'European' in a peat-smoke Irish bar. We're the furthest, geographiocally from Europe, in fact we're not even on their stupid continent.
I know for a fact, as well, that English, Scots and Welsh people hate being called European.
I, and many other Irish people, loathe the fact that the Euro is our currency. We don't call it the Euro though, most refer to it as the Dollar, or 'that paper shite from the frogs'. I even heard people call it the Punt (the old currency- 95Punt= £1, a very strong currency).

The General board is crawling with self-effacing Frogs, Danes and whatever else you can find in the dumpster marked 'Europe'. Which one is the thread for this war with Doomanum?

And in response to the question, it would be difficult for Rome and I to ignore a war with another part of the Roman Empire. I don't know if we're going to RP letting Doomy handle his business as a faction while our two wait to sweep up any pieces, or if all of Rome (RomeW, Cymrea, Doomanum - aka Doomingsland) will mobilize. When I say "consult the Senate" that generally means I'm waiting for some input from Rome. So far, he and I agree that we should try to end it with as little bloodshed as possible. If it's actually gonna go down as a brawl, we may yet join. I cannot say for sure until Rome makes the call...Cymrea still follows his lead, generally.

Personally, it bugs me that I may be forced to shoot at countries I'm friendly with because they're siding against Romans (Doomanum is a part of Rome).

As far as Rome being more diplomatic than warhawkish - I wonder why you can't get over the idea that Rome must be now as it was over two thousand years ago. Greece was a big ol' empire back then, too. And Denmark had their heydey as vikings. No one's worried that Danes will wash up on their shore and smite them. At best, they'd end up fixing all your bridges.

The point - again - is that things change, evolve, adapt, and overcome. That includes stereotypes.

Layarteb:...but Europe really is better than the U.S. :D I will agree that the debates get too heated over there- the lack of respect over there is infuriating.

On a seperate front, I shall be henceforth known as the "Imperial Republic of Rome".

The Squornshelous-Doomingsland War:

I want to clarify a few things:

1) I had hoped to announce this when it's finished, but Doomingsland, Cymrea and I are planning to unite as one country- the Roman Empire. The union itself was my idea, since the three of us have Roman-themed nations and thus it seemed natural that we should all be together.

2) Having said that, this is the main reason why I'm reprising the role of peacemaker here- creating a country right in the middle of a war is not only risky but extremely awkward. I had no idea this war was even taking place (I don't really read a RP unless it concerns or interests me in some way), so this has caught me extremely off-guard. It's also not good for a nation if it doesn't act together, as is the case now.

Technically speaking, this Union isn't even official yet- since none of the details of the Union have been ironed out- so Doomanum is entirely acting on his own accord. Personally, I'm staying out of this- I didn't start it, I'm not involved nor do I have a reason to be, plus the Empire really has a lot of unity issues to iron out.
Cymrea
08-06-2006, 08:55
Okay, well, that's pretty clear. Rome has a good point in that Doomy got into the war before the Union, so I can still opt out with a clear conscience. So...

Doomy: We've got work to do, and it's best done without distraction. After we're whole, we'll war and peace in unison. So come back and finish unionizing when Blazing Thunder is over, you warmongering bastard! :D

Squorn, Huahin: No need to strain our good relations. Cymrea will not be joining battle in the Pacific.

I don't think it'd be much of a problem. Or you could do what Singapore did, and hire a Division from a nation. ( They have a Division of Nepalese Troops for their Anti-Terror Corps ).

Maybe just get a compiled list of nations that wouldn't mind, and use their ethnicities.

The Indians did the same once, on a religous basis. In the early 1840s the Sikh's in a Kingdom called the Sutlej (somewhere in India), raised an army of nearly 100,000 troops, trained to perfection and the biggest threat to British dominance in Asia and the subcontinent. This Army fought against the British in the First Sikh War (1845-1846), they got their assess handed to them by seriously inferior numbers of British troops, although some say the Sikh Commander's fouled up their attacks on purpose as they did not want to destroy British India, as the radical Sikh's would simply rampage through Asia and nothing would be left. But anyway, around 5000 Sikh troops managed to escape from the British on several fronts and were headed back to the Sutlej, probably to kill the 8 year old Dalip Singh (the Maharaj) and his Mother who was in effective control. So they brought in an Indian Muslim regiment from rear guard duty to protect the royal family- the Hindu's never attacked them and the Sikh Army disintegrated.
Long story short, Indian Army used religiously different troops in the same way the people in Singapore use Nepalese troops.

Of course, fear is also a factor- Taliban and Iraqi insurgents are more scared of Pakistani SOF and Intel forces than anyone else. Equally in the 1980s Libya created an Islamic Pan-African Legion from dissidents in Sudan, Egypt, Tunisia, Mali and Chad, scared people in North Africa, Europe and America over what they were possible of, especially with Syrian instructors. The Libyan Military Intelligence Force (MIF) also, apparently, scare the shit out of terrorists in the Middle East, they and the Pakistani's are the two people that Insurgents from Iraq and Afghanistan do not want to end up dealing with.
Pyschotika
08-06-2006, 18:34

Sure, send some over. If they are allowed assume random Salvation Army missionaries are in the poorest neighborhoods of as many nations as possible. Relating to the anti-drug campaign as a youth I always wondered how groups like the Salvation Army were so much better at 'rehabilitation' than others. It's simple, really, since they do not seek to eliminate opiates altogether (and thus condemn the individual to 'reality') but instead merely replace a tangible opiate with a less tangible and far greater one, namely organized religion. Thus why religion is such a big role in Bjornoya. It is a drug that can make people do good things wither they want to or not; it makes the user more productive so long as they do not waste all their time praying for 'cure-alls' but working at the impossible instead.

I'm thinking of doing a re-evaluation of my 'Cure for AIDS' that would revolve heavily around this organization and another huge group of people now in my nation, the justly dubbed 'castrati.' Considering what I did I think I got off the hook too eaily, and need to explain (besides the 'Australian Incident' and Visara in general) why my African peoples did not rise against the Federation violently.

Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's death: This could be good news or terrible news- good because the insurgency may die down. Bad because it makes al-Zarqawi a martyr. At least the U.S. can say it got one of the key figures on the War on Terror. Of course, how they can't find the other one- considering he's hooked to a dialysis machine- is beyond me.

Neuvo Rica [Post 13981]: This wouldn't be possible since USB traded them to you a long time ago and they were subsequently traded to Cotland in post 13758.

The islands I got off USB and then traded to Cotland weren't these islands.

I owned the South Shetland and South Orkney Islands. I traded the south Shetlands to Cot in return for the Comoros.

Then I traded the Comoros to USB in exhchange for the South Sandwich Islands.

Oh, we have more than our fair share. But its not as simple as you make out. They go to countries where they know they can get money for doing nothing, ie, the country with the benefit system that's easiest to cheat.

That would be Britain, right Huahin?

We get some 3rd world people in Ireland, but we mostly get Eastern Europeans. There used to be a lot of African and Indian immigration into the south, but it seems to have petered out as most of them came in the 70's and 80s, and they have kids who are Irish.

Ireland's not so easy, if you don't work you don't get shit, and if your caught you get sent back where you came from, no appeals or any of that shit. The Eastern Europeans here actually work pretty hard, its the native thugs that do the shoplifting. There's some Turk's aswell, they get some good jobs actually, one I know manages a Subway, and he's only been working there like a year.

I've always thought that Canada's immigration policies were far too lenient, but it seems like all my American friends forget this tiny but integral point: any terrorist coming from Canada would have to get past American customs on the way in. I have to remind them that a border is a two-way line.

Lay: Surprise, surprise, Sri Lanka has a huge opium problem. Though I had to do an ass-load of research because it seems that Sri Lanka's drug laws are practically non-existent. The ones that do exist pertain to who can profit from medicines. So a nice cleansing drug-war would be welcome.

And from Hirgy's comments about there being tons of Chinese...is it just me or are there tons of Chinese in every western country? Where isn't there a Chinatown? If a billion Chinese (ostensibly in China) seems like a lot, maybe we should count up all the ones outside of China and see how many we get....

Something that needs to be kept in mind, though, is that any war on drugs is going to drive them underground, increase their street values exponentially, and make those addicts much, MUCH more desperate. The war needs to include social programming and harm reduction in addition to leaving nothing of dealers and pushors but pairs of smoking shoes and pink mist.

As my Argentinian brother-in-law tells me down there when the world cup comes around the nation goes on a quasi-religious 'month of rest' just to keep up with the games. Businesses close early, people sit on their asses and drink in front of the TV. A great burst of consumerism really, not unlike Christmas.

How so?

Lets hear an example. When corporate sponsers started advertising on PBS, they demanded that PBS remove some of their programs like NOW with Bill Moyer and replaced it with Wall Street Week. This is because some of PBS's shows focused on white collor crime which the corporate sponser viewed as "liberal bias" (its not liberal bias its the fact that these companies are cheating their workers) but with that cut the network showed us that "We can't handle the truth." I used PBS as an example cause its a public domain.
Much in the same way that the internet is a public domain for now....FOR NOW that is, cause somer providers are no longer going to respect the net neutraility. Meaning internet providers can decide which internet pages open more easily on you based on WHICH SITE PAYS AT&T AN EXTRA FEE or other internet providers. The more money your company shells out to AT&T(or other provider) the more better connection your business will get. And unfair playing field for small business

Lay: Are you interesting in hosting the E2 World Cup?

Bjorn: You could put orange polka-dots on if you want. There really isn't anything saying that a country's kit has to match the flag. Holland has orange jerseys, which originate from the former royal House of Orange; Croatia has a cool jersey with a red and white checkerboard pattern that is found only in their coat of arms; Australia has yellow jerseys and green shorts...and neither of those colours are in their flag.

I suppose the only question you might ask yourself is what would my nation's kit look like if designed by Nike, or Umbro, or Adidas? After that, it just a matter of putting the colours in. Details could include numbering, and a national soccer/football association logo could go over the heart and on the shorts. Soccer kits don't have home and away like most professional sports. They have official colours that they wear all the time, except when it might clash with a home team (home teams get first choice of which kit they want to wear). The other kit is a reserve kit that is fairly distinct from the official.

You can get a great look at all the kits at the official World Cup (http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/) site.

The internet is neutral though, do you think Perverts would be able to access their filth and evil if good people had the power? Yes is the answer. Your throwing up conspiracy theories were there are none. The Media is always biased, one way or another, just because PBS is one example doesn't mean nothing. CNN, for example, has a liberal agenda, CBS has a liberal agenda and so on and so forth. The internet is too damm big to censor right now, even in China the majority of internet users can ditch their IP in 2 seconds and be searching free as a bird. To say that the internet is not a bastion of free speech and is starting to get more censored, is, right now, nuts. I wish it was more censored, there are a lot of perverts and evil people out there, the internet feeds their disgusting brains. Censorship would eradicate that, but its not like its actually going to happen.

Add another one to the list Lay.

As far as internet troubles Pantheaa, Congress has been trying to reign in the internet for years. Another stupid idea they are tossing about is a tax for its use. Any of these things won't pass the smell test with the Supreme Court becuase it violates the tenet of free speech.

When politicians start trying to pass laws dealing with morals they are on thin ice because they don't have any to set an example with.

Interesting. I've got the verbal exam in English in less than 48 hours, and I picked the theme "Current Issues in the United States."

As a result, I'm thinking about using the following topic for my presentation, which is to last approx. 10 minutes: "In which ways, if any, is the American-led War on Terrorism connected to the illegal immigration problem the United States faces?"

If anyone want to give me a few comments or helpful hints related to that topic, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Bloody Democrats...fulfilling Krushchev's prediction.

Anyway, I found a little song about my native town today, I'll post the lyrcis up here for y'all to see.

Belfast Town, By Mick Moloney (You can find this on ITunes).

We've barricades and gelignite and gunmen walk the streets
We've CS gas imported for the hungry kids to eat
Our towns and knells are a castle now and the waves begin to pound
And I'll tell you, John, I've oft time longed to leave old Belfast town.

Oh Belfast is a city where decent men are few
Where drums and guns have mesmerized the working man, it's true
Where democracy means hypocrasy and corruption does abound.
And I'll tell you, John, I've oft time longed to leave old Belfast town.

For long we've been exploited and I have asked why
That men without compunction were allowed to bleed us dry
In many a filthy tenement in districts fallen down
And I'll tell you, John, I've oft time longed to leave old Belfast town.

Our minds are filled with poison and I fear it is too late
To wipe our walls of malice and the words that speak of hate
For freedom has been banished now and honest men put down
And I'll tell you, John, I've oft time longed to leave old Belfast town.

Oh well now, John, you've been and gone around the world to see
And have you found a country where the working man is free
Where there are no grasping landlords nor forces of the crown
Ah, tell me, John, and I'll be gone far from old Belfast town.

And is it all true? Yup, every word, not a bit of embellishment. The country he's talking about at the end is America. (By the way, if you don't believe the lyrcis, check the BBC website for stories. Latest killing was a 14 year old kid last month, beaten to death for being a Catholic. And there's probably been countless other murders and beatings and rapes I don't care to count. Funny, we have a crime rate to rival London yet we only have aroun 1.5 Million people in Northern Ireland, and only over half a million in Belfast, 'decent men are few'. Unfortunately I can't blame someone like the Democrats. Terrorists and Britain is about as far as it goes, and thats like hitting a brick wall.)

Oh, and the guy who won the Palme D'Or at Cannes for The Wind That Shakes the Barley, the British communist director, Ken Loach- his film is about the Great Patriotic War, and it shows the British in a terribly brutal light, and the Irish as angels. Don't see the damm movie and don't believe the shite. The war was as brutal as it gets, bad shit on both sides. I also take exception to some british communist prick trying to tell me my own fucking history. The shit I've heard people call him, I wouldn't dare repeat it here, what can I say, he deserves it. I better go to the gym, before I punch someone.

I don't see how the net neutrality relates with internet preds. In polly sci that is whats called the bait and switch tactic. In terms of the internet preds
their needs to be more personal responsibility, parents need to teach their dumb kids not to give away their home address like a dumbass. So no matter what laws are passed, it will still happen unless parents can get their act together.

I'm not bothered about the fact you're out of Pacifinesia, aside from the fact that I gave you lands for free, under the pretence that you were staying in.
Yes, I know you're Japan! No shit! I picked the England squad, as you picked the Japanese squad. But I've made my own changes to it, and as clearly stated its WIP. Which stands for Work In Progress. Besides, do not critisize me on a subject which you know nothing about compared to me.
I am not, and did not, critisize you for picking Japan, I merely added some helpful information on who were their best players, even if it turns out their whole team is pretty useless (well, what do you expect when they're almost all under 6ft and a bunch of divers and cheats), as Australia have proven.
