Huahin [Post 12933]: Bassas da India, Europa Island is part of Réunion. British Indian Ocean Territory is claimed by Hawdawg as part of the UK. Saint-Pierre and Miquelon is owned by North Germania as part of France.
Can we have some kind of rule on these things, as I don't think it's right that nations should have all the land belonging indirectly/directly to the country they claim.
For instance, St Pierre and Miquelon (and infact Europa Island and Bassas da India, which are not part of Réunion, merely governed from there, as they're uninhabited, but I'm willing to drop this claim), which is listed as a dependant area in Wikipedia.
Quote from Wikipedia concerning Dependant area
Dependent areas are territories that for some reason do not possess full political independence or sovereignty as states. There are varying degrees and forms of such a dependence. They are commonly distinguished from subnational entities in that they are not considered to be part of the motherland or mainland of the governing state, and in most cases they also represent a different order of separation.
Sorry to be picky, but I believe I have a valid claim, and I would like to help with a charter concerning these instances, as I experienced similar problems with the Isle of Man.

I agree, if a nation claims say, France then it should not automatically have control over the Kerguelen islands, or something else on the other side of the world.
Looking at it realistically, a country's army goes into France and claims it, the said army has not invaded French Guyana too at the same time - Unless that has been RPed in the thread (I know this is not the case on EII, but just for the sake of arguement...)
I agree with Huahin in that nations do not automatically get these areas.

Several months ago when I tried this, but if we enact this now we're going to have to look over many prior claims before this, and re-evalutate their legitimacy.
RP it would be realistic to not get all the little bits of some nation when you claim it, but RL realistically monitoring, claiming, and mapping the literal thousands of miniscule islands would take huge ammounts of time and energy.
EDIT: Rome has to finish the survey.

Re-Evaluating claims is unneccessary surely? If we change claims that have happened in the past then it would effectively be erasing history, if we introduce a rule, it should come into enforcement, so all claims before that don't count.
I agree about the islands thing though. Perhaps there should be a limit on the minimum size of a claim? It's ridiculous that people are claiming tiny islands, then enlarging them to form gigantic military bases. Such a law would have to include something of this nature.

I totally agree about not allowing expansion of islands, it would ruin the claims listing (imagine if we could randomly change the size our countries...)
I'd call foul because I don't see how it's fair that I claimed random small islands, and did not get them then but now the law gets changed when another person claims the same islands. I'd say it would be more fair if we scratched all prior small island claims, made a list of certain islands that are eligible for claiming and maybe put them in a bin for 'grabs' but limit the number someone could claim.
And we'd definietly have to be reasonable with one another, if I claimd a small island off someone's coast (within a certain range) that he thought was under his control I'd be happy to simply give them up, and expect the same (i.e. English Channel Islands in relation to NG and HD or something similar)
Well, I'd like St Pierre and Miquelon anyway, as its near my existing territories. I prefer to have my territories roughly grouped together.

Here is a short 7th grade school essay I wrote on Iran's enriched uranium development. Comments?
Around the world, many nations are attempting to develop their economies and improve their standard of living. Cheap and abundant energy is a requirement for this development, and many nations are pursuing nuclear power as a means of generating this energy.
Iran is a country currently developing enriched uranium for use in nuclear energy development. However, enriched uranium is also a key ingredient in the manufacture of some nuclear weapons. Iran has a history of violence and instability. It has openly stated its enmity of the United States, Israel, and the western world in general. In the past, Iran took several American nationals as hostages, and it is suspected of connection with anti-American terrorist groups. The people of Iran are mainly Shi’ite Muslims; whereas the majority of the population of the rest of the Middle East is Sunni Muslim, and the two sects have had a long enmity. In short, Iran is an unstable, extremist nation surrounded by enemies and potential targets for nuclear attacks.
There are three elements necessary to a crime: a motive, a means, and an opportunity. Iran definitely has the motive: it has openly declared that Israel should be wiped off the map. By developing nuclear weaponry, they will acquire the means and the opportunity for a nuclear strike.
The leadership of Iran has stated that their uranium development is for the development of nuclear power. However, there are several reasons that point out that this is a lie.
Firstly, politicians are in no way obliged to tell the truth. That much is obvious: dishonesty is rife in our own government and in virtually every government on Earth.
Secondly, Iran simply admitting that it is pursuing nuclear weapons development would cause an outrage amongst the world community and soon bring down repercussions upon Iran: such a statement would likely warrant an invasion or even a pre-emptive nuclear strike. Iran making such a statement would equate to the terrorist who publicly announces that he will be hijacking tomorrow’s flight to D.C. and giving his name, address, and other personal information.
Thirdly, there seems to be little reason that Iran would pursue nuclear power development in the first place. Ever since the current regime came to power, Iran has been a highly conservative Islamic theocracy. It has suppressed technological and social progress in other areas, so why would they pursue nuclear power? Furthermore, there are many alternatives to nuclear power. For example, coal-based power plants would be much cheaper than nuclear power plants. They could be built faster and would not cause such uproar among the international community.
In conclusion, Iran should not be allowed to develop nuclear power until there is a regime change. The Iranian government is violent, extremist, and oppressive, has many enemies, and has made statements that clearly show that it is opposed to democracy and progress and hates America, Israel, and many other nations. It is almost certain that Iran is pursuing the development of nuclear weapons, and Iran’s possession of such weaponry would pose a grave threat to the rest of the world.

The overall economic categories will be a simple 1st-15th or so, I could add sub categories like 'most regulated' or 'most healthy (bodily) environment' but those would not be too in depth. I'd rather make more surveys (military, political, healthiest human environment) than have sub-surveys only for econ.

The Americans had their first major success at Saratoga in October of 1777, then the French came in for 1778, with Spain and the Netherlands joining in soon afterward. The Americans *might* have eventually defeated Britain since the British couldn't control the countryside, but it would have taken them a lot longer and it wasn't until the British lost at Chesapeake Bay- against a coalition that included the French- that the War of Independence was really over.

I realize I have less work than I anticipated so I should be able to get it done quickly- I apologize for the holdup. However, I would like to see that reminder removed from your signature- I think it's embarassing to me.
I wrote another TG regarding materia. I forget the other contents but I do know I asked a question that I wanted a response to.

The three questions regarding NS stats make for a small fraction of the total, the rest must be done wo/calculators. Put those or your custom stats in, frankly all NS stats are 'god-mods' so I don't care.
Just please get it done by tonight or tommorow latest. I require efficiency or I soon lose interest (like most people), and this is a project I would like to get done as I have put a lot of work into it.

Since it seems to be the fashionable thing to do, and since its been forever since I've been able to mess with my armed forces:
Squornshelous is officially decomissioning the following naval vessels:
4x Improved Iowa class BBG
10x Improved Prinz Eugen class CA
32x Xaxis class SSK
56x Sturgeon class SSN
250x Oliver Hazard Perry class FF
50x Lister class DD
80x Suntiger class DD
any serious offer concerning these vessels will be entertained.
These aging ships are being mothballed to free up money for a brand new attack submarine in the works. More news on that to come at a later date.
The Improved battleships and cruisers are almost exactly like the two Iowa's still in the USN reserve fleet. Constantly updated with new electronic equipment and outfitted with tomahawk and exocet missiles.

I'm not asking you to answer the question- I'm asking you to clarify part of the question so that I can answer it. It's the same kind of question I can ask on an exam, and this is no different. I don't know what a phosphoroxyamine is and I can't answer that question in the survey until I know, as how am I supposed to know if I'd like it or not like it without knowing what it does? For all I know you've invented something that no one can find information on and that is unfair, since our surveys could be dishonest with faulty information. If you want to telegram me what a phosphoroxyamine is or where I can find information on what a phosphoroxyamine is, fine. I really want an answer- I won't be handing in my survey without one.
We can make 300 of these available for sale for a unit price of $35M each. They were bought for $56.25M each.
OOC: Then they must have costed way too much for you. According to Colonel Richard Harris, USAF, currently assigned to the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) at the American Embassy in Oslo, Norway, the Joint Strike Fighter will cost roughly $47 million per aircraft.
This was made official when COL Harris answered questions on the web at one of Norways biggest newspapers. The reason why he answered is because Norway is going to replace its F-16As with new aircraft, and it's currently between the F-35A JSF or the Eurofighter Typhoon.
The JSF will cost about $47M per airplane and is almost 2 1/2 times cheaper than the Eurofighter. You are getting a better plane for a better price.

Check TG's there is a very good reason why I do not allow questions, if people share information on the subject the survey will be scewed as it is no longer their government's position, but what they think the smartest 'governments' would have answered. Btw I have a new shotgun (been out for some time)
M76 Tactical Shotgun
The M76 Tactical Shotgun is a new, lightweight, highly defensive shotgun manufactured by the LDC. It is a unique design meant to take into accoun the flaws of the M53 Shotgun and the M55 Automatic Shotgun, of which there were few. The M76 Tactical Shotgun offers an 18.00 inch barrel like the M53 and is only available in 12 gauge. It is made to fire both buckshot and high-powered slugs with extreme effectiveness. This seven-round magazine shotgun offers one round more than the M53 but one less than the M55; however, its accuracy is far greater than both, especially at longer ranges. Equipped with a Picatinny Rail system, the shotgun can mount sights, flashlights, lasers, and a whole host of other equipment. One of the greater features is a recoil reduction system, which is placed in the interior of the stock. The baffled tube holds 14 oz. of mercury, which raises the deltaT that the shot's impulse gets spread out over, thus lowering felt recoil. This means more accuracy and much quicker shots, especially in combat situations. Unlike the M53 and M55, the M76 has a far better corrosion resistance system and rated for marine environments for up to six weeks longer than both the M53 and M55. It is also far cheaper than either the M53 and M55 and rated for up to 25,000 rounds.

Ok this isn't the a-hole me so relax. But i think that the survey was missing some important questions according to a leading political scientist in the war torn Republic of Pantheaa
Like
Is your nation at war or frequently goes to war?
Why is this important? Because war has a strain on the economy. The US for example spends billions a month on just the Iraq war(not including Afganstan ops)
And
Does your nation suffer from frequent natural disaters (typhoons, earthquakes, hurricanes)? Maybe the how close you live to the equater question dealt with this.
Why is this important? Because much like the previous question. The government has to fork out money for protection (Protection after all is a pubic services, not private). And a nation that gets hit a lot by natural disaters like Kreynoria would suffer in the coffers
These two questions would probably only have a small impact on the budget. But still the small amount might be the difference
Maybe a question about population as well, like do you use child labor? What is the percent of workers under 16?
BTW it would of be hella funny if my nation took that survey. Insurgents don't collect tax. I would get all "-" in every question and stake my claim as the most poorest nation on E2. ;)

Like I said I missed literally hundreds of aspects; I listed several in 'Sources of Error' on second post.
The equator question took in a few aspects; generally regions around the equator are more populated, and if a fresh water source is near can produce large ammounts of food.
Equator means better climate generally as well, the high price of living in California is due to nothing but the bright sun and beaches.
Minimum wage, waste disposal, adherance to law, more in-depth descriptions of any re-distributions of capital... all of these could have been in more depth on the survey, but perhaps my teacherly instincts kicked in; the more questions I ask the more work I have to do...
I would like to do another project in the future, but this time either for military or 'best quality of life.' (think I'd be more qualified for the 'life' one) Maybe next time I do a survey I can have people TG me sample questions so I don't miss some important aspects.

War = sometimes to often

My government has been overthrown and replaced with a new one (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?p=10909000&posted=1#post10909000).
Basically, the Princes tried to dabble in genetic engineering (it isn't really advanced, either. It's technology we'll readily have in about 10 years, methinks). Since it was untested and such, and the princes were a bit over-zealous and believed they had created the perfect slaves, they messed up, the slaves revolted, and enslaved them. No longer is Carthage satisfied with sitting around, doing nothing. Carthage (now Neo-Babylon, if Lay can change my name for me) is intent on becoming a force to be reckoned with.

Carthage Announces Collectivization Plan and the Switch to a Mixed Economy
Neo-Babylon, Carthage
In an expected move, the Politburo of Carthage has declared that a target of 95% of all farms shall be collectivized. Realising the failure of most collectivization plans, the Politburo has decided to base their collectivization after the 1957 Agrarian Theses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collectivisation_in_Hungary#1957_Agrarian_Theses). These measures aren't as radical as other collectivization plans, and seeing how the farmers of Carthage were formerly enslaved by the Princes, they will be much more willing to work now.
The Politburo also announced the switch to "Socialism with Carthaginian characteristics", a mixed economy, stating that the previous free-market system was horrible for the people, while a command economy would be devastating for the economy. Citing examples of mixed economies with incredibly high growth rates (OOC: China, anyone?), the Politburo declared that this would be the most beneficial way for Carthage to advance. Industries that have been taken over by the state have been:
Weapons Manufacturing
Oil
Natural Gas
Coal
Energy Supply
Water
Ethanol
Military Vehicles Manufacturing
This is a great step for Carthage. Is it forward or backwards? No one knows. All that is certain is that Carthage is no longer the way it used to be, and it is looking to re-assert its place as a world power.
OOC: I am interested in signing up, but there seems to be a shortage of land, so it was suggested that I request some gifts. I am not picky on where I go, I would just like to play... Anyone willing?

Hirgy/OK
Okay so your claims to his Saudi territory are going to him (OK) and his Greek lands are going to you (Hirg). So does this mean that the TATO take over in Grumbles is complete?

The Panthean military is going to be reduced to a national guard only. This is part of the reforms that will be pushed through the new Panthean government and it's commitment toward world peace. Later today, the second council of governors will be posted

Lay, TATO, as USB said, will probably have the Grumbles of War stuff wrapped up by Monday at the latest, but I want to continue the war in Senegal and Gambia for a while. You can add Gambia and Senegal to my claims list and put it on the map while the war goes on, just for the ease of things, but I will most likely continue the war for a while.

Lay, are you putting my Greek lands up today or leaving it for next time? (I don't mind by the way, whatever suits you.)

Probably soon. I won't be back from work until 2030 - 2100 tonight so it might be done tonight. I am off tomorrow and I have little to do so.

Oh yea I forgot, take me off D13. Pacifinesia going to war with Spizania, and well I'm basically his big happy neighbor.

Actually, Spizania I'm offering you to become a Protectorate before I whipe my ass with your little island in East Asia. ( From what I've been told, Cotland gave that to you but Layarteb has never changed the map for that claim. )
I'm only interested in fighting you there, but I also wish to inform you that I already have a bit of a Nuclear Disaster planned for you in the comming days if we can't agree on something.
Legend
Pyschotika/Huahin: What is going on with the remainder of Sakhalin Oblast?
Tis all mine apart from the lower Kuriles.
Huahin, I'll give you those islands if you'll participate in the Eurasian Line. I make money and you don't have to spend any.
How do I participate?

I think SB has a fairly 'valid' (as you put it) reason for being inactive.
Huahin, claim that Russian land Pantheaa gave you, USB do the same so it can be sorted out.
What is SB's reason?
I have already claimed it, I thought. But just incase, I claim it now.

Lay wants you and USB to confirm the lands Pantheaa has offered you, just write 'I confirm'.
And SB's reason is that he lost his leg in a car accident a while back. Between re-hab, trying to get back to work and studying for Uni, I doubt he has much time for E2.
In reference to this thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=10740878&postcount=12333), I would like to claim Elephantum's part of Antartica...I can't see it on the map though. Anyway I will launch an RP for it shortly.

Good assesment Huahin.
I haven't been active because New Genetican is holding to a closed in stance, where there is no diplomatic relations. I doubt this will hold for too much longer, but it will until New Genetican has gained enough strength to interact with the world.
Which it is getting close.
