Sorry - total confusion setting in there. It's those other mid-qualifying games, you see...
We'll re-arrange it as a post-qualifying one, if that's OK?Sure, that's what I'd got it down as on my schedule anyway...

I'm looking for at least one more mid-qual friendly.

Bear Islands- when do you want to play a friendly mid or post? I am still open for both but would like to know when the match is so I can build up the rest of my schedule.

Confirmed friendlies-

Valanora (mid)
Bears Armed (post)
Norwellia (post)
Hr'rmm, you're playing against 'Bears Armed' as a POST-qualifiers match, so making your game against 'The Bear Islands' a MID-qualifiers one -- if there's still enough time left to fit it into the schedule as such -- would seem to make sense.

(I'm having trouble logging into Jolt as 'The Bear Islands' today... :()

Beware of the traditional frantic second half Newmanistanian charge. Live and in person since World Cup 40. (except for 41). In which we will make you sweat it out before we lose out on goal differential or some other tiebreaker on the final day. DAMN YOU SIMEONE DI BRADINI FOR YOUR CURSE!! :)

What's also sad is that right now WEST Newmanistan is closer to qualifying.

And by the way, if we do fail to qualify.... consider this an open invitation for all coaches around the world, if interested, to begin preparing their resumes now to take the reigns of the team in Cup of Harmony 38 & WC 47.

I'm too sleeepy to write any RP today, just can't concentrate for long enough... :(

I didn't really expect the Belles to win their 'away'game against Dancougar yesterday, although a draw seemed possible: When I checked the scores I actually expected to see a loss, maybe 2-0 or 3-1... but 4-1 was a bit of a shock! After all, that tripled the number of goals that have been scored against the Belles during these qualifiers!

Urra Thunder is going to be taking the next game off, so Irriti o Oldwood will be the team's starting goalkeeper then (with Marra RiverFarer as substitute goalie, if needed) instead.

Theoretically, both Hypocria and Swartaz could be second. It would require The Archregimancy to lose every game, and for either of the two former teams to win all their games (there is a nine point difference: 6 pts. vs. 15 pts.). The only eliminated team from Group Five is Tyrrin.

The first time I started playing this game-within-a-game, it took me four World Cup qualifying campaigns to make it to the World Cup finals. And I'd won the Baptism of Fire Cup.

Now, coming into this second go-round as an unranked side, it took me three Cups to make it back to the Finals and I didn't take part in the Baptism of Fire Cup this time. What rubber chicken did I sacrifice that made Margaret go ga-ga so much? :p

Once again, I have failed to qualify. :( I might not return for WC47. This is really discouraging.

Keep trying. I first joined for World Cup 25, and have been on and off since then. I have missed the majority of world cups, IIRC (I took part in 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 34, 41, 42, 43 & 45; eleven world cups without qualifying... admittedly, had I not had huge gaps between different world cups the story may have been different).

You came closer to qualifying this time, and so you'll have a higher chance of qualifying next time. But, qualification will come in due time. Perhaps that's what earns the merits of qualifying; sticking through. Or, you can get lucky like me.

Sarzonia
18-05-2009, 23:18
When I returned to World Cup football, I figured it would take me at least seven World Cups to qualify. I was actually looking forward to RPing as a nation that was used to success and had to learn to take the lumps associated with starting from the bottom. I had a series of storylines I'd planned to put into place that would allow me to chronicle the team's gradual ascent.

I also wanted to delve a little bit more into some of the characters, some of the psyche involved in seeing the team built from the ground up.

Coming within one point of qualifying in my first World Cup back wasn't in my script. I was going to fire my coach after two World Cups and cite my football association for ignorance of reality. The success forced me to alter my script. Then when I had Franz Braddock become manager, I envisioned him as being a caretaker manager until the next manager guided the team to the World Cup finals.

When I was doing this the last time, I got caught up in the victories and defeats, the undeserved draws and the well-played matches. I didn't see it for what it is and what it should have been, an opportunity to have fun with randomly generated numbers in this game within a game. I'm trying to do a better job of enjoying the journey as much as I did the destination.

I encourage you to stick with it, Greal. Perhaps you can think of a new angle you haven't tried, an RP style you haven't experimented with. I harken back to what Cassadaigua wrote once about the World Cup. She said she enjoyed reading RPs from people she thought were good enough to write for a living.

That's one thing I've enjoyed this time around. Not who wins, not who draws, but the stories that lead us on the way.

Yes, people can freely watch it. It wasn't intended to be open but, as commented during the trial, they were unable to stop the invasion of people that weren't allowed to be there and in the end decided to give up and let everyone in.

And we also have the WCDT moving over, too. Find that one here (http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1142).

The next Di Bradini Cup will take place on ns.net, also, and I'd hope that we can all make it a nice seamless transition from a jolted post-WC46 to our own ns.net WC47.

Let's go out on here with a bang, folks!

I do recall the qualification of Oickoidia (or whatever) in WC37. They qualified despite having never RPed for the BoF or the WCQ, lost every match in the BoF, and virtually on zero points throughout the World Cup Qualification Tourney.

Now stop please making me waste time by satisfying quibbling curiosities!

I'm sorry, Quak, but given you've only just returned from an off-and-on hiatus, why should we trust you to host WC47 and that you won't disappear again?

Well, he has hosted a World Cup in the past (http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=World_Cup_33), so he's a) as good a choice as anyone, including you, as he's got a very good idea of what is necessary to run it, b) he has respect for the institution of the World Cup, because he's hosted before, so to accuse him of leaving randomly is a bit silly, c) you don't ask the question of anyone else, so what makes Quak different? and d) he's RPed since coming back, repeatedly, something he hasn't done in the past, indicative that he's here to stay.

That aside, there's considerable precedent for Quak hosting, maybe not WC47, but at least WC48. Kura-Pelland, for example, went on hiatus for multiple cups, returned in WC35, and hosted WC37. The same is true for Vephrall, who stopped competing as Bedistan in WC32, then returned in WC35, and co-hosted in WC37. Quak too has run a WC in the past, so he's got the same background they did.

I mean, Quak's been gone for a fair bit, but he's got the experience, and there's no specific reason to think that he will leave in the middle (unless you have something...?) so I can't see any reason why "we" shouldn't trust him to host anything..."you" might have one, though.

To be honest, LE, I'd like to see who joins in on a hosting bid with Quak before I'd pass judgment on whether he should co-host World Cup XLVII.

If we wanted to use prior hosting history as a guide, I'm sure we could come up with plenty of people who'd oppose a World Cup hosting bid you take part in after World Cup XXII. Same with Oli and World Cup XXVI. There's a point when our prejudices don't serve anyone well.

I'm not saying necessarily give Quak a chance based on his prior successes here. But I'm also not saying don't trust Quak because of his history. In all honesty, I think your question of Quak may have been better served as a TG or a PM on Jolt than igniting a public referendum on this thread.

It's hardly my fault my cohost disappeared after two days that cup, to be fair.

I think your question of Quak may have been better served as a TG or a PM on Jolt than igniting a public referendum on this thread.

Ultimately I'd have raised the question in his bid thread anyway. I think it's better to get it out of the way first, personally.

As someone who hasn't seen Quakmybush in his heyday here, I could not vote for a WC47 bid of his. WC48? Sure, if he was active in WC47. It's a trust factor, and I think that's all LE is saying here. There's a bunch of us "newbies" from WC39, 40 and beyond who have votes and probably think the same way I do.

Maybe Quak should consider BoF 34, or I see in his sig he's done a World Cup of Hockey. Host something like that for now, Quak. It is playoff time. (Hockey)

Also, can I please clarify that my question to Quak was never meant to be hostile, it was more of a 'tell me why I should vote for your potential bid given the circumstances', which I feel is a valid question to ask any host. Perhaps the use of the word "trust" skewed the intention of the question.

I am arranging/writing/re-writing the current rules as I can find them in order to do that very thing.

At the moment, proposals are made at random by WCC members (non-embers aren't usually bothered) and once an informal quorum has been reached (or two options emerge through debate), they are put to a vote by the President.

Or they're simply ignored.

This I am looking to change, and codify, from top to bottom, as well as make this (http://www.nswiki.net/index.php?title=World_Cup_Committee) more professional, simpler, clearer and overall better.

Basically Jolt is more than likely going to be closing down these forums and maybe even deleting them for good. NS2 is set to be shut down July 1st, however, that is neither here nor there.

I am more concerned with what will be going on with this WC community and the possibilty that these forums will go.

Does the WCC and the president have some sort of plan in moving over to the forums hosted on the nationstates website? Are members going to be saving various WC threads or not?

Does the scorinator that's being used for this Cup place a significantly greater emphasis on differences in KPB points between the teams involved -- and give less weight to RP -- than the one[s] that were used for WC45 & WC46? And does it give the winning teams more goals, if their KPB values are higher then those of their defeated opponents, than that one did?
I mean, 'Sorthern Northland 4 -- 0 Bears Armed'?!? When we've played against teams that were around SN's place in the tables in the past we've generally lost by no more than 2 goals, and sometimes drawn or even (maybe once) won...

Afaik, this scorinator and the one me and CH used are one in the same. KPB values are treated where the difference between a team wtih 49 KPBs to 7 KPBs are that the same as a team with 7 KPBs and a team with 1 KPB. However, Kel and LE are using a different system of RP bonus, which may or may not be effecting the scores in such a manner. Likely thing is you just had some bad luck.

I would say that, right now, it's weighing rank and randomness far more than RP. All RP bonuses were reset when the finals began, so the lower-ranked teams which were stockpiling may have been victimized by the gap reopening. But even then, they were only keeping four matchdays worth of RP to begin with to discourage stockpiling early and then vanishing.

He's also the second player in World Cup final history to score a hat trick in the championship match. He's the first to do so for a winning side, since Kaze Progressa's Sani Luvo scored thrice in a 4-3 loss to Rejistania.

Dancougar's tradition even affected Sarzonia a while back.

Good luck to both teams in the final!

Hmm... that would bring the CoH total to one IC firing and two OOC firings, and I'm not sure how that meshes with Secristan's odds.

The bet applies only when your interns get fired. :p

I can see it now... in a (not so ) distant future, visitors to the FA pass through the hall of fame...

"Oh, man, the World Cup! This thing's pretty sweet."
"We had to dogfight those Han, but we finally pulled ahead."
"Nice, nice... but wait, where are all those challenge cups you guys invented?"
"Oh... yeah... uh... we lost all of those..."

Now that the scores and this World Cup is done, I can say:

Last night's game went quite poorly for us according to The Onion (http://www.theonion.com/content/news/detroit_pittsburgh_both_attempting?utm_source=a-section). Damn Jordan Staal and his stupid shorthanded goals.

While I confess that winning would have been much better than losing, at least we only lost by a point.

Congratz to Dancougar! And may we meet again sometime so we can return the favor.

Oh, and LE, I'd like a refund :P

How sick must the Stars feel. Only one goal separated them from the two teams that appeared in the World Cup final in the two matches this cycle!

Commiserations to Han.

I enjoy the RPs from both players, so I'm glad it turned out to be the two of them in the final. Both of you could be professional writers if you wanted to, in the opinion of a longtime writer and editor.

Bad luck Han, losing a final is worse than being 3rd.

Man, how bad must The Holy Empire feel to finish fourth?

I know, I have experience finishing at all four spots.

I think you returned to the WC right after I finished my horrendous robot fanfiction RPs - bemoaned by many - otherwise you would certainly reconsider that statement ^_^

There was nothing wrong with the giant robot stuff quality-wise, Dancougar. It was just the fact that it was in World Cup threads :p
