As for a ghille suit that breathes, the answer is yes and no. We can use a relatively light and porous material for the base, but it still must be covered in the native foliage to be effective, so it will become thicker.

As for light armor, the problem is that armor weighs a lot, and five thousand pounds is not a lot to work with. The best bet is to go for armored humvees that way around five thousand pounds.

It is of course possible to design such a ship, but you must know (and tell) how much of which type of weaponry you want it to have: guns, missiles, and aircraft. It is also dangerous to operate such a large and expensive ship without the proper support group, because it may cost the same amount as a couple of the enemy's fleets.

Keep in mind though, it will essentially be an SD in the end; a large, armored, ship capable of missile strikes, cannon fire, and launching aircraft. All that matters is in what ratio you want them.

Concept: We want a ship with battleship firepower that won't slow down our carrier task forces nor will it burn fuel by the ton. The primary usage that we have for this ship is to provide heavy naval guns to support marines ashore, as another missile platform in fleet engaugements and as a heavy surface escort for task forces and convoys. This ship would be large enough to provide facilities as a command ship.

We would like to comission the construction to 97% complete 10 battle-cruisers losely based of the proposed Alaska II class. [We can complete them in our own yards.] These ships should be large enough to replace their fuel and boiler spaces with 2 or possibly even 4 nuclear reactors.

Space saved topside by doing away with the need for the stack and thermal exhaust will be replaced by a number of launch cells capable of handliing ASROC, Standard, harpoon and tomahawk missile systems.

Here is the old Alaska Class (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_class) Battle-cruiser. I would like for these ships to be capable of 31-36 knots and keep something close to their primary and secondary armament. Instead of the 25mm, CWIS or comparable systems provide close protection.

The original design can accommodate 4 seaplanes but we will replace them with wither Super-Lynx or Seahawk helicopters.

Modern radar systems and electronic countermeasures should top things off nicely.

The Alaska class battle cruisers are large but relatively light considering their size at ~30,000 tons. This is achieved by trading armor for speed. To make the ship safer in combat, additional protection must be added around powder and missile magazines. I would suggest a cell type strategy with the ability to flood the magazines in the event of emergency.

The older class Alaska's hull shape made her extremely stable, seaworthy and unusually manuverable for a ship of her size.

I am authorized to suggest a development budget of 7.5 billion (low since the ships are based on an existing design) and between 1.8 to 2.4 B per ship depending on how they are configured.

We are curious to see if a) are interested in this project b) if our project budget is too low, please suggest new numbers. We think that the Alaska II class would sell and DMG would own the production rights.
