I also plan on putting in a few other wars with you, because of our proximity. Perhaps a good old Futuran (British) Corbournnian (French) rivalry. Though, my national government came to power because of World War II, so if that happened, we'd probably be friends now.

Make a factbook. You can check the first page of this thread for examples of factbooks. Basically, include history, demographics, economics, geograhical and climactic info, government, and military.

Be sure of three things, though: you MUST maintain the combined GDP, Total Population, and Land Area of the nations you selected (Argentina, Falklands, and Uruguay in your case). Those are the guidelines for this Earth-you can find them on Wikipedia by searching Argentina, etc.

Therefore, Drunken Pagan Weirdos, the first to claim it, on the previous page, has those nations - AB has to confirm it, but as far as I can tell it's a first come, first served basis. I would say roughly 2/3rds of the original cost. Mothballed it would cost 10% of that. These are rough estimates.

Thanks. I'm working on my navy, and these new alternate history rules allow for a little tweaking (eg. instead of british aircraft carrier designs, maybe some of those Nimitz designs?) and I was just trying to see what would fit under my budget.

Good question, but not one easily answered!

It costs, of course, a Hell of a lot less to maintain a Turkish soldier than an American one, and if you turn your North Korean tank's engine over once a year or something it won't cost half as much to maintain as an otherwise similar Iraqi tank chasing around the desert during the war with Iran.

I think that different nations and administrations record things differently, too. The US published defence budget doesn't even consider the production and support of nuclear warheads, for example, so I'm sure different countries take different positions on whether a sailor's pay is included in the upkeep costs of the ship she or he serves aboard.

I'd guess generally that several percent of a warship's acquisition cost is needed every year to keep it operational. Tens of millions for that aircraft carrier, I'd think?

Go with De Gaulle Classes then. Larger then British Designs but smaller then a Nimitz.

Usually I'd say 30%...but honestly I'm not sure; its something AB will have to decide for this earth.

The Schroeder Corporation will probably handle that, they seem poised to make a bit of money. I imagine someone will set an opposition sales bit but I don't a majority of the nations will be selling weapons.

I'd imagine Bulgia using ex-Soviet weaponry, but I don't know if the nation covering most of the USSR ever established a Mikoyan-Gurevich enterprise... there may never have been a Mikoyan, so maybe there aren't any MIGs?

I don't think that it would be realistic for people to just dash around giving their nations weaponry originating in others without establishing IC how they would have got their hands on it and why, really.

At the moment I think that Bulgia will develop a small domestic defence industry, but mostly we'll just be building things like, say, an AB-54 assault rifle that basically is just an AKM with a heavier receiver or something. Now sure what I'll do about the rest!

My factbook for those of you who wanted it.

I'm assuming that for the first year, our military portions of the budget must account for the cost of the actual thing and the operational cost, right?

To clarify, a cost of a nimitz class is around 4.5 billion, and operating cost is 160 million (i got it from wiki). So for the first year, to have a nimitz-class carrier, we must take out 4.5 billion + 160 million out of our GDP's. However, in the next year, we only take out 160 million for that nimitz, provided the operating cost stays the same (i.e. it's not injured during a battle). That leaves around 4.5 billion from that first year of paying off the Nimitz to use for whatever in the second year. That includes building new/designing new ships or other things. Am I correct? Because otherwise, if I only had to spend 160 million on a Nimitz from my current navy budget (100 billion), I could have a LOT of ships. Even if such a Nimitz-class was bought in my country several years ago, I still need to account for it here by spending 4.5 billion in the first RP year. That did anything but clarify... :p

Also, how will we go along with RP time? Obviously, during wars and other such occurences, fluid time will be used, but on a general R&D basis, is it one RL day = one EFJ month? So 12 RL days = 1 EFJ year? I think that would work - but it's up to AB to decide.

I read that the Vatican is in your Empire and such would I assume the papcy is within your nation? As a Supreme Catholic state we would in fact take orders from such an entity (To a certain degree) of course there would have to be elections eventually, but if your population is bigger I imagine you could keep the position inside your cardinals. I mention this as a way to get my diplomacy off the ground.

I know I said that, and I will uphold that, it is just that the way Schroeder sees it, they might as well go and meet some people who can develope into business partners than sit back and watch an alliance form that has no need for the corporation. An economic aggreement can be sorted out by them, though...something Schroeder would like a lot.

Another question...to what year is our tech allowed to go (like, a commisioned deadline at 2010, 2015, 2020?) before it's too much in the future?

I'm assuming that for the first year, our military portions of the budget must account for the cost of the actual thing and the operational cost, right?

To clarify, a cost of a nimitz class is around 4.5 billion, and operating cost is 160 million (i got it from wiki). So for the first year, to have a nimitz-class carrier, we must take out 4.5 billion + 160 million out of our GDP's. However, in the next year, we only take out 160 million for that nimitz, provided the operating cost stays the same (i.e. it's not injured during a battle). That leaves around 4.5 billion from that first year of paying off the Nimitz to use for whatever in the second year. That includes building new/designing new ships or other things. Am I correct? Because otherwise, if I only had to spend 160 million on a Nimitz from my current navy budget (100 billion), I could have a LOT of ships. Even if such a Nimitz-class was bought in my country several years ago, I still need to account for it here by spending 4.5 billion in the first RP year. That did anything but clarify... :p

Also, how will we go along with RP time? Obviously, during wars and other such occurences, fluid time will be used, but on a general R&D basis, is it one RL day = one EFJ month? So 12 RL days = 1 EFJ year? I think that would work - but it's up to AB to decide.

I got in some stuff on the climate in the IC thread, on the hurricane. I also have my climate explained in my factbook. As AB told us before, the reason that this is called Earth: Final Judgement is something to do with the climate - global warming, etc. I hope that my hurricane-thing over Spain can be a kind of beginning, a whisper of things to come... *evil laugh*

And for the 'Meeting of Leaders' thread - I'm going to progress it tonight, to the point where the plane will touchdown in Duska and we prepare for the meeting - I would go further but a) I have revision to do for a test tomorrow so I don't have the time and b) AB has still not responded, and I'd prefer not to start the meeting without him. The first thing of the meeting will be us asking questions of each others countries, systems, cultures and stances on issues so we are not totally clueless as to who we could possibly be going into a close alliance with.

My people are anti-Catholic, though some still are, so they would not care what the Pope thinks :p to quote my factbook:

its really not that bad :) we're all great people and we'll help you out as much as we can OOCly. lots of west Africa is still open; and lots of Central Asia; mostly the 'Stan states; and some of easten europe is open. so still plenty to choose from.

I don't mean to be a nitpick...but what's the year deadline for tech AB? Does it have to be commissioned/produced by the year 2015, 2020..what?

I really want to get my military done in my factbook, but without that info I cannot proceed, seeing as how I have a few things rather advanced for 2007 that I would want in my military.

AB said anything our NS nations have...well I have tech going right up to 2015-17 ish so I'm guessig thats fine I'd imagine anything reasonable feaseable pre 2020 ish would be fine but thats for AB to decide.
