finally got around to scanning my paper photos in. they're all from about 3 or 4 years ago. you'll have to excuse the pin holes in some of them, i didn't have blutak so they got pinned to my wall.

these are all from new zealand (i'm especially proud of the sunrise one because i drove 30km in pitch blackness over dodgy dirt roads in a car with broken shocks to get to the most easterly part of the country to take it and it was just perfect, the photo really doesn't do it justice):

all taken with a NZ$30 35mm camera.

Wow, they're great! The angles look all wide and, I don't know, funky.

I love the Arc de Triomphe and the sunset one is honestly stunning, so your grueling trip was totally worth it. The rock, the rays of sunlight - perfect!

And the NZ landscape in the others there is pretty awesome. My thought when looking at the second link: No wonder Jackson shot the LOTR movies there.

that looks pretty awesome to watch, i should get some of my pics from the 2003 NZ WRC scanned. another time though, it was enough stress getting these last 12 done.
The racing was pretty damn good, though for some reason they started the Koni Challenge Grand Sport race (the one from the photo) at 9 freakin' AM. The Porsches won the way they always do, by being fast and steady. The only bummer is that every race finished under caution except the MX-5 race.
Ohhhh, cool! The corkscrew is such an awesome corner. It and Eau Rouge must be the two best in the world.

And, yeah, no Nadkor?* You've got cars off the ground in the corkscrew, how much better do you want? :p

And you got the second Mustang sliding there. Nice work.

*which aren't as good as are made out, anyway
Crisp, non-fuzzy shots, preferably without the sun just out of the frame. And a zoom lens would be nice. I'm not getting the colors you do.

The cars all pitched at turn 7 going into turn 8A, it was pretty cool to watch. I have some 8mm footage of it as well, but I don't know if it's going to turn out because my Super 8mm camera was stuck at f1.8 and I was holding a polarizer from my still camera in front of the lens in the hopes of moving the stop up. And this was the first time I ran film through the camera since I bought it a year ago. IF it does come out and IF I can get it transfered I"ll put it up on YouTube or something, it really was cool to watch (unfortunately, you can have a concept of the overall race, or you can watch the cars go through Turn 8 (the corkscrew) so we only watched that race there and the rest of them at the Andretti Hairpin (Turn 2).

I'll be working the Monterey Historics again this year and I plan on getting my camera issues (out of four rolls, half of one made it) sorted out because every year at that race there is simply too much awesome. Ferraris become like Hondas. "Could you move your Modina, it's blocking the awesome..."

And they totally are.

Okay, I have to admit, the lifting off the ground thing is pretty cool. And I'm basically just impressed that you guys manage to get sharp pics of fast moving objects. :p
Really fast shutter speeds, but I was using only 400 film because I want (but have yet to achieve, the blurred background and in focus car. Mostly because it's so bright I'm using a high shutter speed.

Here's a BMW over cooking it through Turn 7 and shoving a Porsche onto the kitty litter.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that because it's all on public road there are no tickets, just open access. I could be wrong, though.

It's the same as the road races (including the North West 200); no tickets, just turn up and, if you want (and you should, really), buy a programme.

that's pretty cool. the NZ rally was on forestry tracks for the large part, there was some on public roads too, but they still blocked them off and had ticket collectors at the makeshift gates.

that's cool how the ripples are all geometric like.

i'm currently trying to upload my pics of the 2003 NZ WRC. unfortunately my computer apparently has difficulty dealing with photos scanned at 1200dpi so it is literally taking forever. finally got them scanned, now got to wait for photobucket to upload them, 0% after nearly an hour. woop dee woop. i think i'll go to bed and check up on them in the morning.

Oh, I loved those 206s. They were better in silver, mind, but they were great nonetheless.

Gronholm was a magician in them. Incredible to watch. I still maintain that he's one of the greats; better than Loeb, anyway (I also feel slightly bad about the fact that I remember Loeb before he was in WRC. Then again, I remember Raikkonen before he was in F1 and that was even earlier...)

yup, i'll never quite understand the rationale behind the switch to the CC, just mind-boggling. gronholm is awesome, he irritates me in interviews though, far too self-deprecating! he makes it out like it's all so easy. i think loeb's more exciting to watch, less precise but he pushes harder, almost as much as mcrae used too (although mcrae was an idiot, i'm glad he's out of the wrc).

Still really good stuff! One of my own favourites is a sunset I had to shoot at an angle, so the horizon is wonk. Have it as a slide, not digital, so who knows if I'll ever get to play with it :eek:

I took that just after 2am this morning. 15 second exposure, holding the camera steady against the window-frame (I really should get a tripod ;p), first and only attempt. I'm pretty pleased with that.
Oh, the white blobs in the bottom-right are big, white flowers on a bush. Only figured that out in daylight.

I'll set up a flickr thingumybob and put my decent pics in that when I get a Round Tuit, but really I'm still just fiddling with the buttons 'n' stuff...

I took that just after 2am this morning. 15 second exposure, holding the camera steady against the window-frame (I really should get a tripod ;p), first and only attempt. I'm pretty pleased with that.
Oh, the white blobs in the bottom-right are big, white flowers on a bush. Only figured that out in daylight.

I'll set up a flickr thingumybob and put my decent pics in that when I get a Round Tuit, but really I'm still just fiddling with the buttons 'n' stuff...

(Willis was the older brother, the premise was two black brothers adopted by a well-to-do rich white man and his daughter, hilarity ensues...) When he said it he would push out his lips, kinda like the statue, and since the statue was green, I thought of the Hulk.

Now don't you long for the bliss of not getting my 'watched too much tv as a kid' references?

And wow that place is cool looking. There is some sort of Flickr page that I have no idea how to find collecting weird statues, you should add yours, those are super cool.

down side is you have to live in Oklahoma. The city it's in is in the midst of OKC, but is a separate city and the property tax per year on that house is well over $20K even if you did have the money to buy it, the property tax alone is enough to kill you.

Frankfurt, Germany. Most of my friends live here, and I stayed at one of their houses for a couple days, being shown the (beautiful) city, before my (ex) friend and I left because the Germans had school so we couldn't stay there. These are the same four guys I'm taking to BC with me.

Zurich, Switzerland. We went here after leaving Frankfurt, and stayed one night. Then my friend disappeared at a train station, which was somewhat of a relief in the end (we had been fighting constantly), and I travelled alone from then on, which was quite a shock for the first week or so.

Interlaken, Switzerland. This is basically the adventure sports capital of Switzerland, full of Australian and American frat boys. Once I found that out I beat it as quickly as I could ;-).

I ended up camping here for 5 days or so before leaving because of the frat boys, and during most of my time here I was sitting on a bench through this beautiful little arbor. All the tourists either went left or right (in the picture), but no one ever went through this arbor to a beautiful little field 20 ft. away.

Gimmelwald, Switzerland. I wanted to get as far away from civilisation as possible, and get my head straight and work on my book with no distractions, so I chose the most remote part of Switzerland I could find. It was about an hours train ride away from Interlaken, and then two cable cars. It's a little village called Gimmelwald, only about 300 people clinging to the face of the Alps. The first day I arrived, it was covered in thick fog, which was wonderful (I love foul weather, personally, the louder the thunder and heavier the rain the more I love it).

Gimmelwald, Switzerland. The clouds were moving at an amazing speed, with the mountains peeking through every once in a while. During the times when the mountains weren't visible, I was literally surrounded on all sides by fog. I could only see about 50 feet. It was wonderful.

Gimmelwald, Switzerland. All the farmer's huts are built into the mountain side like this. I slept for four nights or so in a farmer's barn on the straw, which was surprisingly comfortable.

Amsterdam, Holland. In between these pictures there's a fairly big section where I didn't take any. I went to Trier, Germany and camped for a week or so, then back to Frankfurt to stay at my friend's for two weeks until the four of us went to Amsterdam together. Amsterdam is quite simply the best place I have ever been. There's so much freedom there, and it feels like people are actually happy... It's just amazing. I have to go back there. This picture is at an anarchist demonstration outside our hostel the day we got there.

To tell the truth, I have no idea where precisely it is. Somewhere near Hyde Park. Our hostel was the Astor Hyde Park or something like that. We got lost a ridiculous amount of times, so I don't know precisely! :)

Ah have missed tonnes of stuff over last couple of weeks. Will have a look at pictures over next week, had glance there are some great pictures there. My pictures on Zooomr back up and working have also had 3 published :-) though not for payment.

Well, I'm a good girl, so I saved them and looked at them with the Adobe preview thingy... And turns out they're panorama format - which I have to say makes them look most excellent, fits the pictures really well. And I like the round halos of the street lights.

I manual focus because I broke the wheel that lets me adjust the appeture.. >.>

I just learned that using night mode and a tripod gets you neat results.

Yeah the wood is right next to the road my house is on. You wouldn't know it from seeing most of it, but there's a motorway that cuts straight through the woods, kinda ruins the sounds of the area :( but it's a nice place anyway.

South of the Rotunda is Statuary Hall, once the legislative chamber of the House of Representatives. The room has an architectural quirk that maddened early legislators: a slight whisper uttered on one side of the hall can be heard on the other. (This parlor trick doesn't always work; sometimes the hall is just too noisy.)

took me a while to figure out how high off the ground that was taken from. my first thought was that it was from a really high aeroplane, but then the standy-uppy thing confused me. i have had rather a lot of gin though so it's just my mind going wrong, the pic is great.

there are times I wish I had a kick-ass camera.
On Saturday night there was a huge lightning storm over my place. Several times I saw lightning thicker than my thumb go straight down and hit what I assume would be the IFC tower (at 87 floors it's the tallest in HK).
Better than that I saw a plane flying directly into the storm and the inevitable happened: Lightning hit it in midair causing forks to shoot off from the wing and tail.
Even though I desperately tried, I could not take a picture of what is quite probably a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

And those pigeons were creepy. There were four of them. Two were huddled together on the ground, another was hidden and I only saw him when he flew away, and that one on the bench was making weird sounds.

be nice - i'm starting to feel like i'm getting my mojo back :)

very marginal photoshopping on those (bit of contrast, cropping, straightening, etc). shot in RAW with a grad "tobacco" colour filter and a circular polariser *nods*

That's like, eh.. 5 or 10 minute exposure. If you look at the mountain (big hill), you can see the red lights from the ambulance on the interstate (there was an accident tonight).

Again, good pix! If you don't mind me stalking you, where do you live?

Yess! *feels photo-adept* I don't think my camera can do exposures(of more than whatever the shutter open/close speed is). It's a Nikon 'coolpix' p4 8.1 Megapixel...digital.. camera.
Ah, hope everyone is alright... now that was a sweeping statement.

Hrm.. I don't know if I would mind you stalking me, since at least I know you would get good pictures, but I won't say more than I live in NJ. For now.

I especially like the first one, the birds really add to the sense of motion originating from the windmill/turbine.

Professional? Nope. Not nearly consistent enough for that. Although thanks as that is high compliment indeed! :)

And I waited a while for a flock of birds to pass that low. I had a few shots of them passing above the turbine, but those just didn't have the impact of the low passage and the reflection.
