You are SOOOOO dead when WYTYG sees those. Oh boy, is he ever.
should i be worried? Well, let's put it this way: when I came to the picture of the spider, I instinctively closed my eyes, scrolled away from the picture on reflex, and very loudly called you a "fucking asshole" even though you weren't even here to hear it. :)
Now, while I do apologize for the inadvertent namecalling :p, I'd love you so much more if you would make that spider pic into a link, pretty please? *slightly threatening puppy dog eyes*

Because, let's face it, as long as it sits there like that I won't be coming back to look at the page, meaning I would miss all your lovely pictures and, if I saw that correctly in the few seconds I glimpsed before you tried to kill me, the pictures of other people as well. And you wouldn't want that, would you now? http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/sad021.gif

There has been nothing to take pictures of lately..

I hate the trees because they have leaves.. leaves make ugly photos..

I haven't seen a cloud in days..

I've been photoshopping random things tho..

Nothing leet, but I like em..

Maybe I'll upload them later.

I didn't win that photo contest, but maybe I got mentioned.. doubt it.. :(

Can't find the dock for my camera, so I can't charge the damn thing..

Oh, and you have to enlighten me as to the story behind those awesome towel animals. Are you telling me you got your daily fresh towels in the everchanging shapes of different animals?! That's insane! Do they keep a group of illegal immigrants in the cargo hold who have to do nothing but fold towels into elephants all day? o.O

This (http://www.flickr.com/photos/36257877@N00/215756781/) looks terribly scary - no wonder they're filming Lost on Hawaii. *shudder*

And this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/36257877@N00/215767334/) is the best of all - just my kind of landscape.

Oooh...! It never occurred to me that these ships were big enough to have actual lobbies with actual glass elevators o.O. Holy cow.
The ship was freakin' huge. I think the highest deck passengers had access to was deck 13 (or somewhere thereabouts; it was at least deck 12). The lobby is on deck 3, and the elevators in that atrium go up to deck 9.

These are my favourites:

http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j41/stardust923/Caribbean%20cruise%20-%20August%202006/?action=view&current=IMG_4197.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch2 I love how the clouds are reflected on the ocean (!) - that *is* some calm, glassy water!
That was taken on one of the last days of the cruise, if I'm not mistaken. You can't see any in that picture, but there were actually a ton of flying fish in the water on that day.

http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j41/stardust923/Caribbean%20cruise%20-%20August%202006/?action=view&current=IMG_4228.jpg&refPage=&imgAnch=imgAnch11

Had to get at least one in there. :) No obliging seagulls, sadly, and I still like yours better, but it was fun to take. I have several photos in which the horizon is crooked, and when my boyfriend saw that one, he asked me if I'd meant for it to be that crooked. :p

The towel animals were made nightly by our cabin steward, and were in addition to our daily fresh towels. Actually, it's probably fair to say that our towels were changed twice a day (had to shower after being at the beach and pools and whatnot, I hate having little tiny salt crystals all over me). The stewards were amazing; the joke on the ship was that they actually lived under your bed and that if you went to the bathroom in the middle of the night, when you went back to the bed it would be made. ;) Anywho, back to the towel animals. They actually have a handbook that they use to make them, which (of course) was available for purchase if you wanted it. Nothing so exciting as illegal immigrants or small children locked up in the cargo hold, I'm afraid. :p

Yea, most of the racing photos are taken f/2.8 or f/3.2, with 1/500 - 1/1000 shutter. Depends on lighting, but it's pretty much always in that range.

The camera works pretty well, you get nice colours and sharp images from it (if used properly).

I always prefer photos to be slightly on the darker side, more moody or something...

I don't know the particular camera, but Minolta is a good name.
Film cameras still cannot be beaten for black and white photography... digital is getting there but not quite there yet in terms of black and white. And some people just plain prefer film to digital.

Look at it this way -- it's free (since you already have it) -- get a couple rolls, get out there and shoot! :)

I did some research on it, it's from the 70s!

But from what people have been saying in reviews on it, it's really good, has manual focus (yes?), and it's quite sturdy..

Along with the lense it already has on it (I'm going to guess at what it's called.. a Rokkor - PG 1:1.4 .. does that make sense?), there's a big one.. it says PF 1:2.8, and a smaller one that says HG 1:2.8..

What does all that mean?

The older the better.

1:1.4 (and the other numbers) tell you the biggest aperture of the lense. The smaller the number the bigger the aperture. (bigger aperture=more light gets through-> shorter shutter time, smaller focus area)
The bigger one is probably zoom object.

I'm not sure what PG and PF mean..Something to do with optical groups and if I remember correctly P=Penta=5

Been a while since I had anything worth posting here, but here's the pick of this summer's crop.

From the June trip to Glen Shiel with the Hiking Club: Only one, cos I tend to avoid posting pictures of my friends without their permission, and Boot's did something screwy to the CD of the film. :headbang: Imagine a really badly compressed image, the size of a normal film photo on CD.

And from my trip to the Lake District:

Anyone got any idea what happened to the edge between the dark hill and llighter sky on these 2? They actually look better as the print.

Simple lesson; don't go to Boots. Or Tesco.

They may be cheap, but you get what you pay for. In the lab I work in, we charge slightly more, but that's because we use better quality C41 chemicals, a better quality neg scanner, better quality paper, and better qualiy printing chemicals. You get far better prints, for a few pence more each.

And even if you just get negs developed at a slightly better place, and get them printed elsewhere, you'll notice an improvement.

I learned that lesson, that's for sure. It was the one-hour option too. The prints are fine, just the CD is crap. I normally use Bonusprint (postal) and they've seemed pretty good so far. Can you recomend any good places?

Well, Snappy Snaps always do stuff better than most.

But then I work in one, so I'm a bit biased...but we get prints in from places like Jessops, Boots etc. all the time and people wondering why they're so bad. We tend to wonder the same thing...we manually correct every photo for colour and positioning, etc. nowhere else I know of does. So yeah, I'm not just saying it (honestly!). 1 hour gives you the same quality as any other time-period.

Ach...I hate advertising my workplace, because I hate the boss and Snappy Snaps as a company are pretty damn annoying, but honestly...the quality's superior to nearly everywhere.

But make sure you specify exactly what you want; if you want hi-res CD scans ask for them, it shouldn't cost any extra. If you want a matt finish, borders, anything...ask for it, it shouldn't cost any extra.

Yeah, it's great to see him do well. He's been a fantastic rider and a great charachter since he entered the sport, and he's been waiting so long for an international win when he clearly deserved one. Guess four in one day just makes up for the long wait :D

I was disappointed for Anstey and Farquhar at TAS Suzuki though....Anstey blew two engines over the course of the week, and had to miss the final race, and Farquhar was still feeling the effects of his massive crash back in April, so he sat one of the SuperSport races (always his strongest bike) out. Would be good to see him back on top form again, he's always a really nice guy to talk to.

How do you follow, or even know about, road racing from all the way over in California?

<snipping some great photos>

Great fucking photos Nadkor! You might have a career as a racing photographer ahead of you, if that isn't already what you do.

You make me jealous-and this is after I was totally going try and make you jealous but I couldn't get film for my Super 8mm cameras for this last weekend at the Moneterey Historic races where I saw two Veyrons drive right by me, a couple McLaren F1s, a Ferarri 412TR sell for $5.1 million, and frankly just too much damn awesome to recount. Though to be honest, the best footage would have come from the vintage Mini Coopers tearing it up on the track menacing Corvettes, Cobras and other, larger cars. They would pitch out of Turn 4 of Laguna Seca in unison like a ballet. You could almost see the other drivers wondering why they couldn't shake the little buggers.

There was this fantastic car that I'd never heard of called the something Typhoon that raced the Pebble Beach races back in the day that was a vibrant deep purple with stacks sitting in the hood-if a pimp had entered Deathrace 2000, this would have been his car.

But I didn't have film, so I'm describing this to you instead. In a photography thread. Where you have posted some great fucking photos. So then this is an over long, "I dig 'em."

@Nadkor thanks for the tip, I'll check them out. It's something to do with this monitor, but it doesn't display dark contrast very well, so your photos look like brightly coloured bikers floating in darkness. Works quite well actually.

Nah, seriously, most of the new ones look like they were taken when the drivers were entering a spot of light after emerging from some big dark trees leaning over the street. Pretty funky effect, what with the bikes themselves being all bright and the surroundings being almost black. Looks majorly professional and artsy at the same time, IMHO. :)

I like the way the camera at speed "bends" the support rails for the armco barrier. It reminds me of pictures of moving racecars from the turn of the century which made the wheels and tires look like ovals from the side instead of circles.

Does anyone know why this happens or what the effect is called?

I think I remember learning about that...
Centrifugal force comes to mind, although I can't describe it very well. I remember learning about cars going around bends. Maybe that's what it's called, although I could be wrong. Most of what I learned while I was doing mechanics in physics is very hazy in my mind now. :(

I dont mean the tiny bit that the wheels actually become oval, I mean the old photos of them make them look VERY oval. Ill try to find a picture of this.

it's funny, several people i know have said as much (and hell, i took the picture so obviously i saw something in it too). but i actually have some deep-seated fear and hatred of the land out here. some primal part of me demands trees and bodies of water. though primal probably isn't the right word, because i'd also feel better if the horizon was made close by buildings and fences rather than freaky ancient sand dune hills.

You can get it from anything that moves depending on what kind of shutter a cam has.

it's funny, several people i know have said as much (and hell, i took the picture so obviously i saw something in it too). but i actually have some deep-seated fear and hatred of the land out here. some primal part of me demands trees and bodies of water. though primal probably isn't the right word, because i'd also feel better if the horizon was made close by buildings and fences rather than freaky ancient sand dune hills. Hehe, I know exactly what you mean. I have that exact same primal fear of evil mountains and coniferous forests (so yeah, Canada? Not so much. >.<). I can see the "threatening" character of empty, open landscapes, but I thrive in landscapes like that. It's like I can really breathe, and my whole being kind of expands. Bah, that sounds all stupid and zen. :p
But yeah, a good friend of mine would go crazy in a desert or something. She totally needs buildings crowding around her to break the horizon, just like you said.

WYTYG you remind me of Johny Cash, cuz you've been everywhere man. Lol, I wish!

What on earth were you doing in Baker? Going to Death Valley or the Early Man site? Anyway here is another pic from Baker for recreational nostalgia purposes I actually can't remember. I think I was there on a trip when I did not go to Death Valley, so I can't really say. *shrug* I was just passing through, though, that much is certain. :p

well this moth stayed up on that ceiling (on the starcaise ceiling outside) for about a month and a half, just on different parts of the ceiling. It was cool seeing it there everyday though.

i have never seen anything like this in philly. just deer, squirrels, the occaisonal rabbit, and the ever dreadful pidgeon (who travel in LARGE numbers and attack people).
