I learned that I really do need more sleep. Today I was at work (in an actual office :() and my husband took the girls to the doctor, he sends me a text message on my cellphone that says "fax ins card"

it took me 20 minutes to realize what that meant and then another 20 to figure out that I did have the card and that I was sitting less that 3 feet from the freaking fax machine.

What? Did you think, "INS card? But we're not immigrants!"?

no, my thought process was as follows

"why does he need that?"

then I remembered that he took the girls to the doctor

"I don't have it to fax...it's on my computer at home"

then I remembered that I had an actual hard copy of the card, not just the PDF of it that the insurance company emailed me while we were waiting for it

"I don't have a fax"

then I looked over and saw the fax machine...you know the one I was recieving a fax on, when my text alert went off.

How much did you have to cut off? Just a strand, right?
uh, no, like a big chunk (translation- about 3 or 4 strands I tend to exagerate when I am upset)

Ah, you see WD-40 is primarily a lubricant, rather than a solvent, so I'm somewhay surprised this worked. I seem to remember having white spirit used when I was a kid to solve this kind of problem.
yeah, I put it on and the gum started to slip right out.

that's disgusting.

I tried peanut butter first because it was supposed to make the gum slip out, but it didn't, so I was reading up on all the other nasty stuff you could do (mayo, cooking oil, vasolene) and decided that none of that would probably work, so we froze the gum with ice and tried to beat it out with a hammer (damn and I skipped the word lube for a good reason now I said "beat it out" ignore please) and that didn't work, so I thought "WD-40 will work and if it doesn't at least it will be sufficiently miserable enough for her to stay out of my gum" so I tried that and it works, kinda, sorta, well, better than anything else.

when trying to remove bubble gum from hair

peanut butter does not work
ice does not work

WD-40 does work, but then I had to get it out, so I used baking soda to dry it out, then a fine toothed comb to pick it out in chunks...

after 3 hours of work, I still had to cut her hair *cries*

it's now 8am, and I have been picking at my child's hair for 3 hours....and I still had to cut it.

oh, and she got one of those horrible guilt trips too. I am a bad mom......my fever is still over 102 though so I have to go to the doctor today.

"do you know that was my gum?"
"yes"
"do you know you were supposed to be asleep?"
"yes"
"do you know that when I asked if you had been in my gum you said no?"
"yes"
"so basically by 5am this morning you have stolen something, broken the rules, and lied about it?"
"yes"
"so you broke like what 3 commandments?!"
"4"
"four?"
"I also coveted your gum before I stole it, lied about it, and dishonored my mom"
"come on, let's try to get it out"
"am I going to hell now?"
"what do you think?"
"I think we all are"

i would have cut it to begin with. its a great lesson. well ok, maybe not right to the scalp so that she'd have a white spot but enough so that she would never ever do it again.

you DID get to the "no youre not going to hell for this" part didnt you? your daughter is very clear on what sins are but might need a bit of work on the value of repentance.

yeah, we did. My husband basically took over the "talking part" after a while because I was way too engrossed in picking at bubble gum to accurately spiritually guide her, but yeah, we got into the whole forgiveness thing.

no, not really. I had a lot of food left (my freezer would hold 331lbs of food and it was full) so I called the local soup kitchen to come get it, they showed up within 15 minutes and loaded it all up and took away our busted freezer because they thought they might fix it. One of the guys that came to help them load it had recently gotten a job and was moving from the shelter so I gave him my sofa and loveseat and they packed it up and promised me that they would give them to him when he left. ;)

I suddenly feel like not so bad a person anymore.

it was one of these (http://a1656.g.akamai.net/7/1656/9503/3d0c9039831c58/www.lanefurniture.com/comfortlink/ProductInformation/StyleImages/41246.jpg), with the fold down table and the recliners on each end, there are cupholders (about the size for a beer can) on the table. He got it for free from a friend whose wife wouldn't let him keep it and since we didn't have any furniture at the time, he took it. Ours was purple....blech, try finding things to match a purple sofa. It's very much the "man's couch".

my flowery set that he got rid of I traded his couch for, the neighbor liked it and he had gotten divorced and ended up with the wife's formal living room set, so we traded.

the green ones that I gave away tonight actually were mine and I got them on sale for $399 about 4 years ago, but they are way too big for my current living room and I am getting a new set in a few weeks when my mom moves because she won't have room for her old ones, so I am going to get those.

I guess I switch furniture too much.

The good news is that my husband and I both like my mom's current set, so maybe it will stick around for a while.

I learned that to find the saturation current and nonideality factor from a plot of voltage versus amperage response for a p-n junction diode, one must first find two voltages with corresponding currents.

Then, you must simplify the equation describing diode current: Id=Is[exp(Vd/nVt)-1] so that you can have two equations, one for the first point you found, one for the second. It's probably easiest to just divide both sides by the thing Is is multiplied by ;).

Finally, plug in your points, and use the solve function on your handy dandy TI-89 (trust me, you don't want to get bogged down in solving Id1/Id2 = (exp(Vd1/nVt)-1)/(exp(Vd2/nVt)-1) ).
Hooray! I learned something!:headbang:
