2) don't fall for the stereotypes, we don't all like star trek/battlestar gallactica/star wars in the volume people give us. there are other things to spend time on; history, sciences, and yes even athletics.
3) just talk to them like you would with anyone else, you'll find the differences between a "geek" and a "jock" aren't a large number
4) if you find something you both like, work with that. find something that you can both do together and enjoy.
