No, it's a chemical. And that's nothing compared to my socks.
i wore those for 3 years, went to about 9 camps (three days), they have gotten soacked,stepped in dog uuummm, you know, my cat sniffed it and wobbled, etc

Sea water and ice don't smell bad, fake leather is alright after it airs off, and dog doo is no problem after a couple days and some of that water!
your socks would have been washed at some point, and the water was from todays climate. also my shoes hang onto whatever smell hits them....i wore them for about 40% of those 3 years
