How can Max take over a region? You mean.. all by himself? That would be virtually impossible. So, how did Max actually tried to take over?
There are various ways to do so and here I will share some of the potential things:
- Max used admin powahs to create duplicate nations to endorse him in his try
- Max had a talk with mods at first to help him out, that would mean that mods are not biased towards defenders, as most invaders say
- Max got the help from other nations/players. That would mean two things:
1. Max contacted an invader organisation for the help, disclosing his name and provenience
2. Max was already part in an invader organisation. As they don't usually give lead to the new guy (Max here), he would have to climb up the ranks, that means that the raid that Max is talking about is one of his latest raids. Point 2 is valid only if Max actually tried to be the lead in the invasion.

But alas, what happened with Max?

He was accidentally deleted for impersonating an administrator, with a nation under the name of Maxtopia. Frustrated, he left the game and never came back again.

After he abandoned the game, a minor crisis began. This was the time during which the moderators were working to create a sentient AI program that could replace Max. In the meantime, the various moderators took turns at administrating. The program was finally completed in 2004, but because it wouldn't fit on the phpBB forums, the moderators had to transfer the game to Jolt. After that, they installed the AI and the game and forums have been running smoothly ever since. *nods*

Unfortunately, Max holds his career higher than he holds this game, and I rather have it this way, so he can continue popping out awsome books.

If you look at the news article on the ns website 13 november 2004- titled 'Nationstates is 2' then you'll see a screen shot. If you enlarge the screen shot it has a list of about 8 nations that were in the world before ns actually opened.

1 of them was a nations called 'South-southwest'. I checked and this nation still exists but its population is only just over 2billion. Surely if its as old as the screenshot it should be in the 7 billions?

Just thought it might lead to a new openeing.:cool:

Going on from what The Phoenix Militia said, I'm guessing that Max deleted the nations so they could be recreated and someone just did what he did and recreated the nation.

Or maybe they were just in the testing versions of NS, and they deleted all the extra nation data that they had tested with before it went live.

hmmm so, now the question isn't whether Max Barry is on Nationstates and the forums, it's who is he?

What we know:

(1) Max Barry isn't a mod. First of all, Max is far too busy with the game mechanics to work on moderating, that and writing novels. In addition, only one or two of the other mods live in Australia, and none of them are Max, as has been conclusively proven. Semi-conclusively. Ish.

(2) [violet] is likely not Max. [violet] was around at the same time as Maxtopia, a nation which had Admin status. Max had no need to run two Admin accounts at the same time, and if Max was [violet], [violet] would have only been created after Maxtopia was abandoned. There's still a good chance Max and [violet] are one, but it's outweighed by chances the other way, especially considering how well known [violet] would be bound to become.

(3) Max is a lurker, probably a little-known poster. This is by his own admittance. Max wouldn't get too well known, as inevitably those who get too well known -- like those who post in this thread -- are eventually accused of being Max Barry, and could be potentially telegram-spammed the way Maxtopia was. If Max stuck to the same nation throughout I'd put it at a February or March 2003 join date, but I suspect he has more than one nation anyway, so in reality he could appear a January 2007 poster if he wished.

Max has participated in, IIRC, at least one invasion and one defender operation. He probably uses IRC, although on an unrelated IP address and provider. I don't believe he roleplays, although I could be wrong.
