I would venture to say, that Max isn't exactly rolling in cash from his books. I could be wrong, and I hope that I am, but I bet he's still doing the lecture circuit to pay the bills. Besides, what do you think he does all day, sit and write for 16 hours straight? I would sincerely hope that he still monitors this game at times. If I were a marketing wiz I would view these forums as free market research. Proof: A couple weeks ago, Slag said that "Rep and Barry" would have to approve of something. This was in the IRC room, and someone had mentioned something. Anyway... If it required admin approval, why would he leave [violet] out if [violet] != MB? Loose lips sink ships, Slag.

There is an obvious over abundance of proposals in the UN. The are only voted on by the UN if they recieve enough support, but how am I to read through them all. If they must recieve enough support to be voted on by the UN than they should also be allowed to be voted to be removed from the proposal list.

I. All existing proposals required to recieve a number of support votes should have an option to cast negative support which should be set in accordance with the support votes (ie. they must recieve 124 to be voted on by the UN then there should be an option so cast negative support. If 50 negative support be submitted then it should be deleted.)

II. Any proposal recieving set amount of negative support should be deleted.

This thread is not the place to post game modification suggestions.

I think there's a fair amount of evidence backing the idea that Salusa is Max Barry, and I'm coming around to this belief. The reasons:


I can't believe it would have been the intention of MB to completely give up editing issues when the mod editing interface was created, yet we have since seen no issues saying 'Edited by Max Barry'. We have, however, seen a number edited by Salusa. Editing issues doesn't really fall under his self-defined remit of assisting nations in the tech forum and providing tech expertise to the mods, does it?
His own posting on a topic he closed and referred to this; the thread had begun with a discussion on who [dredd] was, but migrated to a discussion of himself. He closed it, and did so with a comment of 'This is slightly off topic, but close enough (and getting closer)'.
Similarity of writing styles between his posts and items on the News pages

Salusa has publicly declared he can't edit the NS code. Unless this is a self-imposed restriction, I can't see why this would be the case, and I also don't believe he would lie about it

It's possible, I suppose, that MB/SS prefers to keep out of the general admin of the site, which would explain why he poses himself in an advisory role. If he simply repeated the mod concensus on Sunday, rather than posting a policy statement, one can envision Neut might have taken a different angle. Anyway, just a few thoughts

Not nessisarily, they could be cooperating, and he needs to check with [violet] before doing anything.

Hmmm... but a while ago I was telegramming Salusa about a moderation matter, and he said he supported my cause, but it was up to the mods.

Because it's a Technical question.

What we know of as "Max Barry" is actually an artificial intelligence program running on a main frame in Australia. [violet] is an artificial intelligence program that's run amok on the internet and has created this entire site from bits left over from the dot-com crash (although I do believe some of the zeros came from a draft budget of the US Department of Defense).

Since [violet] has recently gained access to the launch codes of a batch of ICBMs, researchers are looking into the probability that [violet] == Max Barry. If so, it could possibly provide a method of shutting the [violet] program down before we are all vaporized.

Considering all our lives are at stake here, the Moderators were willing to consider stickying this topic. Fortunately for all of us, the SalusaSecondus program had a segmentation fault, and it thus couldn't vote 'no' (as it always does in these cases... hence our suspicions that Salusa may also be [violet]). The vote was won by that one vote, leading to this topic being stickied.

I think that violet will probably end up as just another regular person, who happened to be very involved with Nation States...not Al Gore :P or Max Barry.

Max Barry is probably one of those nations that are the best in all three categories, with a population of at least a few billion, and who moves around from region to region, or just buries himself at the bottom of some region, and is not active in the forums. He must be concealing his identy :)

Anyways, here's my theroy about [violet]:

1. A person closely related to Max Barry (business partner, etc.) OR hired by Max Barry to take care of the server (unlikely);
2. Someone from Zikzak, the people who designed the NS software. Since I sorta doubt Max have the time to fix the server, etc. it might as well be one who is hired, but from a specific company;
3. Someone from the server host. Reason similar as the above.
4. Drumroll... Max Barry. Although [violet] still haven't "offically" confirmed who he is (or I just missed it), and he/she didn't say that he/she IS Max Barry, I'm still tempted (sp.) to have another possiblilty :wink: There's also the person Violet in Jennifer Government as mentioned earlier.

About Max Barry however... Might as well be one of those "Ex-nations" browsing the forum, who can be seen at the bottom of "Who is Online" page?

Actually, it could be. Considering lighting conditions, makeup, and color vs. B&W, it could well be that what your noticing is just a trick of the light. The long nose isn't helping much either.
