It's looking very bad for gay rights on all fronts... though no results from CA yet (obviously, because polls haven't yet closed there.)

Admittedly, the only one in contest was FL's amendment, because of the 60% requirement, but still.

Edit: And it's looking very good for reproductive choice in SD.

Local Ballot Measures (http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/results/ballot.measures/) for those interested.

I think I might actually be more interested in CA's ballot measure than those of my own state...if CA can pass theirs, I see similar attempts in both CT and MA, my two home states.

I believe we early concluded that it was 3-d trickery. Anderson Cooper and the others cannot see the Holopundit. At least they said earlier, with the Capital.

Also, I just noticed one of the presenters moved their hand in front of the hologram of Congress and, even though it should have been behind his hand, his hand was obscured. That means it's not on the desk.

CNN along with all over channels is GOD and when they say Obama has won the election then that is what it is.

Look I know some know exactly what the outcome will be in some states but how can they know for the tighter states straight after the polls have closed with not many votes counted?

Yes I know about exit polls and other polling ways but they aren't always accurate.

Not that it matters most people could have called this election 18 months ago but yeah.

Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) went to Obama
Wake County (Raleigh) went to Obama
So did Forstyh County, however McCain has a 10,331 vote lead over Obama.

Buncombe County (http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/Buncombe/7950/11946/en/summary.html) (my old home town) has reported absolutely nothing, for no obvious reason. It's possible that their 135,000 registered voters could deliver an extra 10-15K votes to Obama.

Congratulations to those of you who are citizens of the US...thank you for an amazing voter turnout, and thank you for making the choice the rest of the world has been holding our breath hoping you'd make.

It wasn't a very hard choice to make, at least not for me. But then again, the Republicans would literally have to resurrect like... Earl Warren or run someone who was basically a Democrat for me to vote for them. It's not that I'm a party line voter, it's just that I'm "librul" enough for it to be almost an impossibility of the Republicans running somebody who's more in line with my views than the Democratic Party candidate. I vote for the candidate who best represents what I believe in who I think can put that into policy. That just happens, in large scale elections, to always be a Democrat so far. And I actually really like Obama. He's not perfect, but nobody is. I think he's the right person at the right time. It will take a long time for the US to earn back all the respect that we've lost internationally, but I think this is a big step in doing that.

I'm really looking forward to January.

I literally did a little happy dance when I found out. I was actually really surprised by how fucking happy I am.

Of course, since I spent my adolescence under the Bush regime... the idea of having a president I can support, who won't cause anger every time I hear or read about him, in fact, who will do things that I approve of, is really... very new to me.

In short, because the Democrats aren't right-wing assholes.

Pro-gridlock might be a reasonable position to take for someone who is genuinely in the center of the political spectrum (or for someone with no coherent political views at all), but those of us who actually agree with one of the major parties on policy much more than the other have every reason to want one-party rule.

In short, because the Democrats aren't right-wing assholes.

Pro-gridlock might be a reasonable position to take for someone who is genuinely in the center of the political spectrum (or for someone with no coherent political views at all), but those of us who actually agree with one of the major parties on policy much more than the other have every reason to want one-party rule.Want, but not have. One party rule isn't a good thing, the reason a gridlock is a wonderful thing because if one branch is controlled by one party, and another branch is controlled by the opposition party, then there's check and balance. So if one branch tries to make a dickish move, then the other branch will try to stop it and vice versa.

The reason the one party rule screwed us when the Republicans were in charge because of that lack of check and balance, and trust me just because Democrats now control both branch, doesn't mean they won't do the same thing.

There is a difference between starting a chant a la "Drill Baby Drill" or "Yes We Can" and a call/response pattern. One invokes the power of numbers through chant. the other invokes the power of something higher through the call and response (Leader calls out, followers respond).

To continue a chant takes nothing. It would be one thing if they went in to "Yes We Can" immediatly after his first statement. But they didn't. They dragged it. It takes a different type of mentality.

Though I'm wondering how many people will actually show up. And how many of those who show up will have hangovers.

Obama: 52,055,029 (51%)
McCain: 48,143,705 (48%)

LOL no. I'm not dancing in the street because I'm too lazy! :) I'd have to get out of my chair AND go downstairs to do that--much easier to type on here! Plus, it wouldn't be too fun to be the ONLY one out there...

But the people across the street and behind me usually have big loud parties at every opportunity, so to hear nothing coming from those houses is a "statement" on their part. I suppose I could have livened up the place by playing "Signed Sealed Delivered" through the amp, but I didn't think of it until now...

And that's with so much still outstanding in CA. I hope he stretches that lead by percent or two. That would be really add to the mandate.

EDIT: IF they just match last election, they'll add 8 million to the total popular vote and could manage the percentage spread by itself.

I had to argue with my roommate about the significance of a majority popular vote...this even after his boy McCain lost.

I'm hoping Obama can hit at leat 52% by the end of the night, if not 53%

It's looking pretty close, but my numbers have Obama pulling it out by something close to IN and NC numbers.

EDIT: I take it back. I think it'll be even closer. I wasn't counting the smaller counties in. It might be less than 10K difference. We might see some recounts.

For us foreigners who think the electoral college is a horse-drawn obscenity from the days when the United States had serious doubts about being united, or a state ... it's the real measure of who is really President.
