Peech- you sound kinda like one of my mother in laws (the one I like) ;) I am glad I am not the only female around here with an interesting way of saying her vowels. LOL.

It's not fair that Simonist sounds more KS than MO, not fair at all. ;)
And it's weird, too, considering that I'm practically on the split :D

But you sound just as Okie as I figured you would, which is comforting in a way....especially after the great Kanabian upset

ETA: Okay, wow, Eut......your recording just scared the hell out of this poor quivering mass of fluff I'm pet-sitting.....

Drill Seargent Rant (http://media.putfile.com/DrillSeargentRant)

I was a bit homesick there for a minute :p

I could never get the good bellow down, so I used the "poke them with your softcap" approach to asschewing. That, and I'm just an amateur in the asschewing business. People like Eut are absolute professionals that are able to make you think you're a worthless bag of skin who doesn't deserve to be alive.

Woah... I can't decide whether Eut's rant has me more scared or amused - I was laughing through pretty much the whole thing lol, but I have to say I'm sure as hell glad I'll never be in your squad lol.
LOL! I had so much fun making that.

BTW ... ranting at trainees serves a multitute of purposes. It's been conclusively proven that if you can't take a bit of harrassment, chances are slim that you will be able to tolerate being under fire. It also helps to wake them up and help them focus intensely on the mission at hand. I've seen semi-conscious PFCs ( Poor Frakking Civilians ) become almost hawk-like in their demeanor; ability to focus increases chances of survival. It also increases marketability in the civilian world: ability to focus intensely and attention to detail are valuable skills.

Hahahahahaha! :D

Actually, that was somewhat toned down both for volume and language. IRL, every other word was profane, but that was back before the PC people became aghast at what Drill Sergeants were allowed to say to trainees. If you've ever seen An Officer and A Gentleman, the scene where Richard Geere ( ? ) arrives at the reception station and the DI cusses them all out is pretty accurate. :D

BTW .. I hope you got over the "homesickness" quickly! :D

Tell you what.....I'm gonna record something else, something I"ll just read off of my Myspace page or something, it might not be very long, but something I know I've written. That way it won't be so much of recitation of a formal writing, and there may be a difference.

Of course, I'm glad about the hemming and hawing beforehand, or otherwise I'd never gotten that TG, so all's good.

And your recording is very fitting, seeing how you work in film: it's the first one I've heard on here that actually made me feel like sitting in one of these non-subtitled movies where the characters mumblereallyfast. I have the feeling I didn't understand anything, but I totally got the gist of things. :p
That's probably the closest to actual me as you can get, I kinda mumble and I talk fast. I also use a mix of out-dated hipster slang and surfer slang. In 'the industry' (I don't know if I get to call it that if I work in NorCal...) people either mumble (techies) or talk really loud (production). We all talk fast.

This is why I have actors do my stuff and I never appear in it. The actors can say that stuff so people understand it. (the actors that have played the role I read have been really amazing, I think they like playing him. I would have thought they'd like the friend more, but I guess they actually like playing an arc.)

See, this is why I could never be in the military-because if I got yelled at like that I'd laugh (not becuase it wasn't scary-in my face that'd be scary, but because it was clever) and then I'd get yelled at some more. (ok so its mostly me giggling... hehe... but i love her voice, and her laugh especially! it took longer than i figured it would to do so i'm now off to bed... :))
My computer apparently doesn't play well with others, all I got was "Okay!" But even then, sounded like you cats where having fun.

EDIT: A quick reload and I got more, though no PM giggles...

So thanks a lot for the completely and utterly undeserved compliments (and no, I'm not fishing for any either) - at least you didn't laugh. Well, let's say at least you didn't type out the laughter :p.If that was undeserved then nothing is. I really, really like your accent (when you speak german especially). :)

Man, you're giving Google a workout tonight - but at least now I know what a torch singer is.

I love that I seem to have been able to sell the shitty singing part as "breathy", lol.:p

But sadly, I don't play the cello. I did play the violin for 8 years or so as a teenager (and hated it and never practiced and consequently sucked :p) but believe it or not, I always wanted to play the cello. I'd have traded in that stupid violin anytime. Or, better yet than cello, the upright bass (is that the name?). How cool would that be? Sigh.

I do have soft eyes, though. ;)

Oh my. *we really need a blushing smiley*. Thank you. It's funny though - I always thought everybody hated German? Like, whenever anybody from the US or (esp.) the UK parodies German, it's always the most terrible, guttural Nazi yelling and spitting. Which doesn't sound like actual German at all. Swiss German maybe, but not German. :p j/k

Ah yes, Swiss German. A few years back, a friend and I were in a car accident in the canton of Solothurn. I lived in Hessen at the time, and could at least understand a bit of German. But when we were in the Swiss police station (which took around 8 hours) I couldn't understand a damned word any of them were saying. It's a good thing one of them spoke French, as none of them spoke English. In fact, they were rather shocked to find Americans in their town.

I always thought everybody hated German? Like, whenever anybody from the US or (esp.) the UK parodies German, it's always the most terrible, guttural Nazi yelling and spitting.

Also, a lot of Americans (especially in rural areas of the sort I was raised in) have never heard anyone actually speak another language. When I went back to the old hometown, some of my old friends just couldn't comprehend how I could speak French. They were convinced that after you hear it a lot it just sounded like English (á la 13th Warrior), because there was no way anyone could make sense out of those wierd noises. It's not so much like that now with the interweb, but even now a lot of America is extremely insular.

Yay for poor rural areas without a decent educational system!

My college wasn't very vocational. I was really trained (if you really can be) as a playwright and screenwriter with enough production to say they tried. Most of the real training has been on set. I would have thought I'd end up doing sound because I have a background in music including recording, but the only thing I've done is hold a boom in a fix. yeah, I got trained on the job how to design lights...Into The Woods, with over 100 lighting changes in the first song. And no computer. Trial by fire, anyone? Now I usually do volunteer work for community theater and high school when I have the time...You will appreciate this: http://www.fullbodycast.org/index2.html
I used to work at a theater that had Rocky, but I didn't work the weekends (when I was a Turtle) so I didn't know we had an all female cast on Saturdays. So I came to pick up my buddy on Saturday and was talking to one of the cast members that recognized me for some reason. I didn't think anything of it until she lent her cape to a passer by and she stood in her Frankenwhatever costume. Since I was 18 at the time I maintianed for about as long as I could (15, 20 seconds) and then made an exit...

Ah, that makes more sense...having been both a director and a techie, this made me laugh probably the most-

Listen carefully to the instructions of the Director as to how he wants things done - then do it the right way. In the days of thy work, he will see thy wisdom, give himself the credit, and rejoice.

Incase this topic is still, on topic with the first post.

- English (http://www.bestsharing.com/files/ms0013885/english udhr.WMA.html)
- Sumerian (http://www.bestsharing.com/files/ms0013887/sumer udhr.WMA.html)

I should note that that is the closest Sumerian translation I can get [at this time[/i]. Eventually I'll have modernised the language and can apply that version, if I so choose. Until then, what is there, is a somewhat rough translation into the 5000 year old version of Sumerian.
Enjoy it, even though you can tell I'm slightly struggeling to keep pace.

That'd be a no. Between gigs I slowly revert to vampire mode and end up staying up all night and sleeping all day. I think it comes from growing up in a city that had 115 degree summer days and being a slacker.

What sucks is having to jar myself back into a normal patern when work starts up again. I never get to start on 'French hours' (where we film all night instead of all day-I don't know why it's called that), where I'd be set. I'm watching Adult Swim cycle back through and looking at Porsche victory posters for no apparent reason...

Oh, of course you could. You know, such as quietly breaking into the Imperial Palace, replacing a camera with an ion cannon, then stealing a guard's uniform and waiting nearby to trigger it when I happen to walk through the area, then claiming I named you as a temporary substitute during my recovery. That kind of thing.
These types are easy to see through... just give them plans so you'll know exactly what they'll be doing, and how to lay traps for them. I've dealt with people like this before. Plus there's the minor fact that my ego is so overinflated already it's simply not possible to add any more air. :P

I actually like reading lyrics. You can tell good songwriting if the song still works when just spoken. Crappy songwriting can be funny as hell, though, when simply spoken.

@ Ruffino: man, you really have no luck with putfile, huh? Both sorts of files not playing.

@ Dost: I could access your links now & thusly have heard my first Sumerian sample ever. It's, um, interesting. Though it would certainly come second to French in a beauty contest. :p

@ Sark: Oh. My. God. That was the awesomest grrrrrrrowl ever! Now granted, it'd probably make me laugh rather than drop my clothes, but damn, it's good. It's almost lifelike . Do you speak Spanish by any chance? Because you'd have a killer rolling "r".

@ Cluichstan: Hm, remember way back when dinosaurs roamed the earth and this thread was still on its first pages? You said you could do both a sexy Irish and a sexy Scottish accent. So prove it, if you please. :p Neither is represented here yet, which really is a terrible shame. (Oh, and if you can't do both, stick with the Irish. Yum.)

@ Shotagon: I seem to remember being promised some more of that American Cool. ;)

@ Peechland: We need more Peechland! Nobody even noticed you had a cold, so that excuse won't work anymore. :)
Oh, and I remember you mentioning that you had this "switch", like when you talk to people for the first time you'd try to keep the Southern accent in check but after a while it just popped up again? I totally have that too. I grew up in the Southern part of Germany (hey, so we're fellow Southerners! :p) and when I moved here I managed to get rid of my accent pretty well & quickly. For years, I spoke a pretty damn impeccable standard german. Then I spent a year in the US and while there my German kept deteriorating and all that was left in the end was the old accent. That was weird, like it had been hardwired into my brain and only been covered up a bit by the non-accent. So these days, I still use my "good German" with people I've just met (or on silly soundfile recordings for NS General ;)), but I've gotten terribly lazy around those I already know. It's as if I think "Oh well, they know I can do it if I want to, so why bother actually doing it?" Yay for laziness.:p

haha...I do a bit of spanish, and that is actually where I learned to do the growl. Its fun to do, and usually makes people laugh. Rolling tongue/r's are good for many things. And with NSG's collective guttermind, I'm sure you can come up with several ways to use it that I never have.

Lol, thanks. It's pretty piss poor Sumerian if you ask me, but I guess I'm my own worse critic.
It doesn't even match the phrase very well. I had to replace things like brotherhood with humanity, and reason with good judgement.

She hated it. I'm pretty sure she knew we where making fun of her, and she liked to think of herself as rough and tumble. (we got her when, as a tiny abandoned kitten, she attacked my roommates girlfriend. I kept saying that was sign of her evilness, but no one listened to me.)

Don't worry about it.
If you're not a native english speaker, and sometimes if you're not an American, you don't really have a chance with half of them. It's just word play, kinda like puns, sometimes making reference to slang that is used around here. So you're not dimwited, just not Californian. And half the time I'm really just amusing myself. In this instance, just think what relation 'bone' and 'seductive' might have. It's not terribly funny, so you'll be a little dissapointed...
