Christelle sat at the bar, sipping at her tea, casually listening to the gossip and looking round the room. While the conflicts went on inside the General Assembly, this room at least felt peaceful. For now.

After a moment, her gaze rested on Christopher, sitting off to the side. A grin lit up her face, and she walked over to him.

"Christopher!" she exclaimed happily, and joined him, leaning over to kiss him.

"How's your day been?" she asked him, gazing at him, happy just to be near him. "I've missed you," she added softly.

Cami Langdon had a headache, for the second time today. The first, due to a slight hangover, had been defeated with the help of good coffee, a healthy breakfast, and a couple analgesic powders that morning. She fervently hoped the second, caused by tension over the Humane Treatment Act, would be vanquished by some liquid relaxation in the Stranger's Bar.

She was dressed more casually than usual, after having spent the day getting her office unpacked and organized. Overall, she was pleased with the effort her staff had put forth today, and the majority of the work was done. Cami sincerely hoped she would get to stay around to enjoy it, but her fate depended on the defeat of the HTA.

After ordering an ale, Cami's mind drifted right back to the issue. She had found it difficult to argue against the opinions of her friend, Christelle. In fact, she had to agree with many of Christelle's comments. Not all nations who did allow the death penalty, would use it with the same restraint. The only way to ensure that those nations would be curbed, would be a ban against it. However, the ban would only affect UN nations, and there was nothing to stop those nations who didn't like the ban, from leaving the UN.

While philosophically, she could agree with the reasons that one would be against the death penalty, she also found justification to uphold the use of it. In her nation, sentencing one to death was a long and exacting procedure, used as punishment in only the most abhorrent crimes, where no hope of rehabilitation was found, and with the firm belief that the convicted felon would in fact, continue to commit such crimes, should the opportunity ever present itself again.

Perhaps, she mused, our religious factions are what creates this difference. Her nation's faiths primarily believed in one God, a loving God, and there was justification found in almost all of their major religious works, for the "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" philosophy. This was almost never taken literally by their judicial system, but it certainly provided a basis for their belief that under certain extreme cases, the death penalty was in fact, an acceptable option.

Cami sighed again, and took another sip of her ale.

The new Wateranan born representative to the UN entered the bar and grabbed the first empty barstool he saw. After what he'd just seen, a large rum was exactly what he needed to get his nerves back under control.

The first place he had visited after arriving was the GA chamber. Taking a slow measured look around at the chaos in there and his fellow reps all busy defenstrenating each other, only one thought pounded through his horrified mind, 'What the hell have I agreed to?'

After Witchcliff pulled out of the UN, and was replaced by a nation of Klingon barbarians (though he was careful never to say that anywhere a Klingon could possibly hear), he, Wally Mossop, was asked by them to handle Kolothland's UN affairs and represent their interests, as diplomacy certainly isn't a Klingonese strong point. Not to mention sitting around debating mundane subjects is way beneath any warrior who values honour through battle. Much more suited to a human who has been promised rich rewards and assured the hardest work he'll ever have to do is seducing the other reps secretaries.

It seemed a cushy proposition, so he'd grabbed the chance and gladly signed the contract. Now that he'd actually seen the UN however, only fear of what the Klingons would do to him if he broke that contract was stopping him from turning around and going straight back home. 'I'm trapped in a bloody madhouse,' he thinks to himself in despair.

Startled out of her reverie, Cami looked up at the question, to see the Ambassador from Steweystan standing near her.

"Oh, by all means, please have a seat. Michael, wasn't it? Should I call you Michael?"

Cami gestured for him to take the vacant stool next to her, as she continued.

"It's just this blasted debate regarding the HTA. I can't vote for it, and if it passes, I don't believe we will stay as a UN Member..."

*sits down on the stool next to the Ambassador from Drae Nei, letting my dark green robes flow around me...*

Please... I prefer to be called Stew when not being "Official". Hehehe...

Yes, the HTA and the Death Penalty issue is a rather... pointy thing, isn't it?

You are the Regional Delegate for your Region, are you not? You have a heavy load trying to balance the needs of your own Nation... and the desires of the others in your Region. My Regional Delegate hasn't been seen for a couple of days now...

*shrugs*

You are worried that your Nation will be forced to leave the UN in order to maintain it's rights, correct? Have you asked your Government what it intends to do if this vote goes in favour of the ban? Pardon me for saying, but it's a little unfair that they toss you this load without letting you know what they plan to do if one event or the other occurs...

Will they weigh the greater good your Nation has been able to do- and the good that come to your Nation from this association against the possible harm leaving would do... or will they take this one opposition so to heart that they deny the world the insight that your Nation offers?

I know what my Government will do. If the ban goes through, we will adapt to the new world, since change is inevitable in all things. If that requires us to research new methods of rehabilitation, so be it.

Having met you, however, I certainly hope that your Nation will remain a Member, so that your insight, knowledge, and dedication to what you feel is right can provide support and hope for others that feel the same with you. After all, if one soldier leaves a battle... that's lessens the chance of a fair fight...

*sips my Nadia Blue wine...*

Sorry for being long winded... been listening to too many of our colleagues in the GA. Hehehe...

"Alright then, Stew it is. And I am Cami Langdon. You are right sir, it is a sticky situation. I am now awaiting the opinions of my fellow UN nations from our region."

Cami took a sip of her ale, and smiled at Stew. "So far, while the danger does exist in extremist nations bringing this to a close vote, I suspect, from the debate of the last few days, that it will not pass."

"However, if by any chance it should, I suspect we will actually follow the example set by Ariddia, and create within our nation, another nation, created solely for the purpose of affecting UN legislation, for the betterment of all, but not binding on us personally."

"May I buy you another drink, Stew?" Cami smiled at him again. "And may I say, congratulations at surviving your recent assasination attempt!"

*smiles brightly, and nods...*

Thank you.. Cami... I would greatly appreciate another drink. This place serves my Nation's wine at just the right temperature...

*chuckles...*

Yes, there is danger in the vote going through... but isn't Living a dangerous act in itself?

*smile a lopsided smile and raises an eyebrow at Cami...*

I do not think this vote will go through... There are still arguments about it's being an illegal proposal... beside, I'm sure this particular issue has been fought numerous times before as well.

Thank you for congratulating me on being alive. Hehehe... It certainly made my Induction a memorable occaison.

*gives a wry smile*

That idea of the Nation within a Nation is a good tactic... you can affect change outside without outside changes affecting you... let's a Nation grew more organicly, doesn't it?

*shifts a bit, and the Star Trek book flops onto the floor...*

Hmmmm... I should get better pockets, eh?

*picks up the book and places it on the bar top...*

What do most of our colleagues do when not evading the issue?

Cami orders a round for the two of them, and smiles at Neville when they are promptly delivered.

"Well, most spend time here, or actually doing the more arduous work of the paperwork which always follows the floor debate. My time has been taken up mostly with getting our new offices set up, communicating with my government, and the other nations of my region, for the last few days."

Laughing, Cami continued, "That's been quite enough!"

Stew smiles and sips my wine...

"Hmmmmm... Not bad. I'm still waiting for my request for an office to be approved after having accidentally been directed to the wrong one. My stuff is currently in a broom closet."

Stew taps the book on the bar top, pondering something,

"Tell me Cami... do you read...?"
Drae Nei
30-11-2006, 01:29
"Well yes, I do, Stew, as does every other delegate here, I suspect. But like most of my aforementioned colleagues, most of my reading is nonfiction, and job related. In my free time, if I read, it is usually biographical or historical works, not necessarily related to my own nation."

Cami took another sip of her ale, then added, "I have a degree in Anthropology, and I am always interested in learning about other cultures."

Smiling, Stew gives the book on the bar top a final tap and pushes it towards Cami, letting her see that his name is at the top of the book under it's title, Star Trek.

"In that case, you may have an interest in this book. I myself have a degree in History and Literature... and well..."

Stew blushes slightly as he removes his finger from the cover of the book to take a sip of his wine.

"I even wrote a book. It's about my Nations first attempt at Space Exploration to the moon... not a very successful attempt, I'm afraid- but still a note worthy one. You would learn much about my Culture in this book, and how it can affect a Nation's progress."

Looks at the book, a bit of a frown on his face.

"Please, take it as a gift from me to you... the beginning of a Culture Exchange, you might say."

Stew smiles broadly at Cami.

Smiling, Stew chuckles before taking another sip of his wine, a soft beep at his wrist drawing his attention.

"Sadly, I must retire for a bit, but hope that we may talk more again at a later time. And I hope that you do not have to leave the UN, it would be a dimmer place I think with one less smile around."

Cami nodded at Stew, acknowledging his departure, then turned her thoughts to other things. She needed to design the appropriate invitation, to their open house.

She was very pleased with the looks of the suite at this point. It wasn't ostentatious, but displayed, in her opinion, just the right amount of nationalism, while also displaying the flags of the region whose nations she represented as a delegate.

Rumor had it that the Rathorian delegate might even attend the open house!

Absently, she ordered another ale from Neville, while she started drafting their invitation.

Wally's gloomy reflections on his current predicament are interupted by the barman depositing an unasked for drink in front of him.

He looks up in surprise as Neville whispers into his ear, and points discreetly at the woman sitting not too far away. Wally smiles towards her in thanks, hoping she will glance towards him and notice the gesture.

'Maybe things won't be so bad here after all,' he thinks to himself, in a slightly happier state of mind.

Tuesday, December 5th, 5pm-9pm

Drae Nei Suite, 38th Floor

(Semi-Formal or Business Attire Please)

Please RSVP to Ms. Fielding, ext. 3801

Neville perused her layout fpr a moment, then said sincerely, "It looks good, Ambassador Langdon. Short, sweet, and to the point. Not too ostentatious, yet formal... I like it! Should I tell Jimmy to wear a tux then?" He grinned at Cami, knowing full well Jimmy would carp all night if he had to wear a tux.

**********************************

"He'll be fine with a white shirt, black pants, and a black vest, Neville." Cami laughed. "Or, you can tell him I've got a formal Drae Nei tuxedo for him, kilt included!"

They both laughed, picturing Jimmy in a kilt.

"Thanks for the input, Neville. I'll have Ruth get this printed on stationary first thing in the morning, and we'll post them in here tomorrow, if that's okay?"

Neville nodded his assent, and got Cami another Ale.

Cami finished her second ale rather quickly, wanting to make a final foray to the GA floor before the day was over. Leaving a nice tip for Neville, she called, "I may be back later, not sure, Neville!"

Immense relief flowed over the Kriovaller delegate as he pulled up a chair. "My thanks, milady, but please call me Jevo." He gestured upward. "May I introduce Lord Serph..."

The larger man held up a hand and smoothly interrupted. "Your Excellency need not grapple with arcane titles that likely bear little weight abroad. I would love to hear about the economic developments of Ariddia, about which Jevo seems to have become quite interested. Though I insist on buying the first round of drinks. I so seldom get out these days."

Jevo picked up approximately where he had left off. "...and this is the Her Excellency the Lady Christelle Zyranov, Ambassador from the People's Democratic Social Republic of Ariddia."

Christelle smiled politely.
"That's very kind of you, my lord. I'll have another cup of grapefruit tea, if that's all right. And I'd be happy to tell you both about Ariddia's economy..."

She paused, putting her thoughts in order.
"I probably need to put it in context, though. And I assume your society is rather different to ours. But here goes...

We've phased out the use of money. Of all kinds, credit, currency, gold... The only people required to use money in Ariddia are foreign visitors. The money we get from them goes into the National Treasury, and we use it mainly to enable our citizens to travel abroad, to countries where money is still used."

Another pause.
"In Ariddia, we work to benefit one another and society as a whole. For example, a baker will make bread, not for profit, but for people who need bread. In exchange, his own needs are met by his fellow citizens, and he can walk into, say, a grocery and take whatever he needs. Or he can go to the theatre and watch a play without needing money, and the people working in that theatre know they can get bread from him whenever they need it.

Of course, we didn't implement this overnight." She looked at them. "It would have led to abuses. Our ancestors were given time to gradually adapt to a new socio-economic system, before a genuine communal economy could be made to work."

Christopher spotted Christelle in the bar, his face lighting up as much as hers when they recognized one another. He was just about to get out of his seat and walk over to her, but stopped when he realized she was heading his way. Wrapping his arms around the Ariddian ambassador, he hugged her and gave her a kiss.

Christelle sighed happily, enjoying the feel of his touch, returning the hug and resting her head comfortable on his shoulder. She ran her fingers over his arm, caressing it softly.

"It's been rather busy in the General Assembly... They've got this really weird statue (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12011477&postcount=285) they want to put outside." She turned her head slightly and kissed his neck, then looked up at him, smiling. "We've been invited to Ambassador Langdon's 'office warming' party in a few days. You'll come, won't you?"

And I'd love to come with you to Cami's office warming."

Clearning his throat and straightening his shirt, Christopher quickly nodded his head, "Mmhmm, mmhmm, that's completely alright with me, Ms. Zyryanov."

¹ Ardchoille (or anyone else present), these are robots. Dispose of them in whatever manner you see fit.

³ The bunnies' speech circuits are enabled, but at some point in the design process it was decided that they didn't really need to speak audibly in Yeldan, or any other language. Consequently no translation software was installed. They make sounds and the sounds probably have some meaning to them, but God only knows what they are saying.

Ambassador Langdon walked in the Stranger's Bar, feeling better than she had in days. The office was looking good, and more importantly, the HTA draft had been declared illegal! She was ready for a drink to celebrate.

Upon entering, she noticed Christelle and Chrisopher, looking over a menu. She decided to stop by, just for a moment, to ensure Christelle had no hard feelings over their stances on HTA.

"Hello, Christelle, Christopher", Cami said cheerfully. "Excuse me for interrupting you two, I will only take a minute of your time."

Turning to her friend, Cami continued, "Christelle, I don't know if you've heard, but the draft of the Humane Treatment Act has been declared illegal, and the debate is over. Khernynko and his aide were continuing their discussion while he continued to watch the Representative from Community Property with his piercing blue eyes. He noticed the glance he got when the CP Representative left the bar to go to his office presumably.

"Dimitri, did you see that look he gave me?" Vladimir said to his aide who was now drunkenly explaining how his brother broke his car by using a coat hanger for a dipstick.

"Sorry Voloda, I did not." Petrovich said, taking another shot of vodka.

"He looked at me as one would look at an aristocrat, Comrade." Khernynko said quietly.

"Perhaps we should have the Checka deal with him then." Dimitri said.

"No, we wait. There may yet come a time when we can give Brunzov what he craves, an other chance to show the world the splendor and glory of the Elleltian People's Liberation Army. And of course to liberate the proletariat of his country and expose them to real communism." Khernynko chuckled.

"I will gather as much intelligence on them as possible comrade." the aide said quickly.

"Be sure that you do, your future in the government may depend on it...Comrade Serpov is planing, and you don't know of this by the way, a purge of the government. Seems there are more than a few who have become lax in their application of Marxist principles." Khernynko said.

"Comrade, why are you telling me this?" The aide said.

"Because, I like you, and regardless of your participation in that bread riot during the civil war you are a reliable cadre of the Party. Not to mention we will be handsomely rewarded for our parts in liberating the oppressed proletariat in his supposedly communist country...I am sure they would enjoy such things as bread, and vodka, and cloths and boots and snuff." The Ambassador said rapidly his Elleltian speech slightly slurred by the vodka.

"Indeed, Comrade, I shall be on the look out for anything overt." The aide said.

"Dimitri, you would have made a good Checkist you know." Khernynko said.

"Thank you comrade, coming from you that is indeed a compliment."

Christelle smiled, and slipped her free hand into Christopher's, giving it a caring squeeze.

"Yes, let's. I'm getting rather hungry, and..." She looked into his eyes, and smiled mischievously. "It's time we had some privacy."

Christopher smiled back at Christelle, returning the squeeze. He could have sworn his heart skipped a beat when she looked at him. In fact, it was some time before he responded, so engulfed in the process of looking upon her, noting every little inch of her body and admiring it's beauty. Leaning in, he kissed her lips several times more before nodding his head, "Yes, let's."

Giving her hand another squeeze, Christopher made his way to the door and held it open for her, "After you, Ms. Zyryanov."

Prince Tang entered the bar, sitting at his customary table in the corner. He tended to be a man of habit when it came to things like these; sitting at the same table, ordering the same drink (Pu-erh tea, with a hint of lemon and cinnamon), ordering the same food (sushi, followed by a noodle entree). Of course, he was given to burst of spontaneity. He was always impeccably dressed, some said to the point of foppishness (but others holding that he was more the dandy than fop). To many of the people in the UN he would appear effeminate and womanly, but in the Empire he was a highly desirable man who took pride in his appearance, as was common among people of his class.

He sat and ordered his customary drink when another Imperial delegate entered the bar. It was Rang Erman, the elder statesmen of the delegation, the "advisor" to the office. What, exactly, he was to be advising on was not specified, but it was widely understood that he was there to provide whatever help he could. Landaman Pendankr had been a competent ambassador, but he didn't have the adequate advisement, and was often uninformed.

He sat at the Prince's table, ordering a Manhattan cocktail. Since the opening of the Empire to the outside world, foreign drinks and clothes had become popular, and though clothing didn't interest the old man much, anything alcoholic piqued his interest.

"So then. It seems like we've settled in well enough." He said, taking a drink.

The Prince looked into his cup. "Yes, of course. I'm impressed with many of the members... there hasn't been much of that famous stupidity that Landaman described so animatedly."

Erman laughed. "Give it time, I'm sure it'll crop up. Stupid always does."

The Prince nodded. "We should be recieving our military attache soon, once Pendankr finalizes the arrangements. I was hoping that with a Fleet man here, we wouldn't need the Aushedar, but that's wishful thinking."

Erman nodded. The Aushedar was security, watching the delegation to make sure no one slipped up. The Privy Council had insisted he be assigned, and he was always there, watching the work of the office, taking everything down in his neural implants.

Tang looked up, around the bar. The Ariddian who helped Pazirbashan escape was there, with the Islenskan ambassador. The intelligen file said they were romantically linked, but Pendankr had made special note of Ms. Zyryanov's capabilities. Jones, from Community Property, was notably present. Apparently he had replaced McGee because of some horrible failures on the floor. The Yeldan Minister, a face rarely seen in the building according to Pendankr's report, talked to the wolf-man from the Wolf Guardians.

He enjoyed the atmosphere here, there was always something going on. Plans were always being made, deals being brokered. Even now, vor dan Hoogelhande was planning expansions of the offices into adjacent roomings to include more private offices, a mini-restaurant (subcontracted to the Bar, of course), a private gym, and other comforts so far from home. Tang looked forward to practicing his swordplay with Erman.

"Well, Rang, how about a game of Danbian chess? I haven't had the pleasure of playing you in a good long while."

The elder man smiled widely, tugging on one of his beard-braids.

"Of course! Just don't be surprised when I cross your admiral's T!"

Giving her hand another squeeze, Christopher made his way to the door and held it open for her, "After you, Ms. Zyryanov."

Christelle smiled happily.
"Such a gentleman!" she said, and led him out of the Bar, holding his hand as they headed for the lift. Once inside, she slipped her arms round him and, just like that first evening, kissed him passionately. She had been looking forward to having him all to herself again... and now they were finally alone.

She released him only once the lift had stopped, grinning excitedly, and led him to her office. She had asked Min to take the evening off, so they would not be disturbed.

"Make yourself comfortable," she told Christopher, still grinning, as she closed the door behind them. "I'll get the plates and cutlery... What would you like to drink?"

Baron Manfred von Richthofen enters the Strangers Bar in his leather flying gear, his cap cocked rakishly to one side. He strides up to the bar, takes a seat and asks Neville for 8 gallons of petrol, 8 gallons of pure grain alcohol and a bottle of Kirschwasser. He pours himself a shot of the kirschwasser and scans the bar. He then turns to Neville and says "there was a fraulein on the barricade earlier wearing hand-made, high-heeled, cream leather button-up ankle-boots, a cream wool hobble skirt, an intricately-tailored matching jacket with godets, darts, contrast silk piping and tucks galore, a frou-frou of lace at the neck and wrists and a truly delightful hat, with pigeon-wings, bluebells, roses, daisies and a voluminous net fascinator. Do you know her? If you happen to see her, tell her that I shall return to this establishment when I and my noble opponent have brought our battle to a suitable conclusion".

With that he finishes his kirschwasser, tips Neville with a gold 20 Mark piece, takes his supplies and heads back to the roof, enlisting the aid of a passing squad of Robotic Destructor Bunnies to help transport the petrol and PGA.

Christopher sighed against her, holding her close as he shared the moment with her, kissing back with equal passion. It was one of those moments that felt at once exhilirating and relaxing. On the lift, where no one could see them, he could show her how he felt. In the Stranger's Bar, it would have been impossible to do that without causing a huge stir.

Following Christelle into her office, he glanced around and noticed it was empty. His heart was thumping inside his chest, and he had 'butterflies in his stomach' if he was using the phrase correctly.

Finding a seat and waiting, Christopher tapped his feet on the floor and his fingers on the arms of the chair. Though he was anxious, he was not impatient; he would have waited as long Christelle wanted him to wait, "I'll just have some, uh, wine, if you have any."

Sighing heavily, Stew sips his wine...

Things did not go well today... I never expected Arnold's brother to take the Vow of Wrath so publicly...

Stew remembers back over the funeral of his Secretary, and the rather nasty scene of the Secretary's brother Randolph vowing upon his brother's casket to deal "wrath and justice" to the person that cause his brother's death. His hand shaking slightly, Stew takes another sip of his wine...

Things could get messy from this point on... I may have to install my own small security force here to protect me... I think I should ask Cami's Military Attache for some advice on this...

Ambassador Langdon walked into the bar, glad the week was 'officially' over. Of course this meant little regarding GA floor debates, and other happenings, but it meant her staff was off, and she could relax a bit as well.

"Hi, Neville", she said as she looked around the Bar. "Kind of quiet tonight, isn't it?"

Neville grinned as he answered, "Quiet? Hell no, Cami, most are outside, down by the barricade, watching the dogfight! What can I get you, dear?"

Laughing at Neville's response, Cami said, "I'll have a Calaidian Amber, please" as she pulled out a stool and sat down. "I got the invitations and the posters back from the printer's this morning, Neville. Okay if I put a couple up?"

"Sure thing", Neville replied. "You want me to hold a few back here to hand out to a few of your selected friends? I think I know most of the ones whose company you've appreciated."

"That would be great, Neville", she said as she slid over a stack of the invitations.

Cami took a sip of her Ale, then slid off her stool, armed with a small stack of the posters. She put one on the inside of the front door, so people would see it as they left, but so it would not be visible from the hallway outside.

The second one, she tacked up on the bulletin board near the pool table. A couple more went in the private alcoves, and returning to the bar, she posted the final one on the vertical beam at the end of the bar where people tended to order.

Affixing the last one, she read it again, ensuring one last time that there were no errors.

02-12-2006, 05:51
"It's a place that is changing rapidly," Jinella replies. "We were isolated for a long period of time, but about 30 years ago, the King at the time opened the nation to the outside world...in the past few years, that was expanded upon by our current King, who invited people from all oppressed lands, or anyone else for that matter, to come to Altanar and visit, settle, whatever they wished to do. Our population is changing and growing dramatically as a result, but we see it as a good thing. Stagnation is not something any nation benefits from."

"Let's see....as far as the environment goes, we're fairly diverse also. A large part of the country is desert or dry grassland, especially to the south and west. The north of our country is mountainous and pretty rugged. We only have one river, and the land around the river is completely different....hilly in some areas, flat in others, and very green and fertile. The area around our capital is the most interesting. It sits on the edge of a large lake, surrounded by another fertile area, and the mountains are just to the north. It's an interesting study in contrasts."

"As far as our society goes...we try to be an openminded people. Diversity is important to us, as is social harmony and social justice. We also take education very seriously. A lot of people would probably consider us very liberal, but we see ourselves as more progressive-minded than liberal. We've got our issues, to be sure, as every nation probably does, but we seem to be doing okay so far," Jinella smiles.

"So what is Drae Nei like? I have to admit, finding out about other nations is one of the things that excited me about being posted here."

"Well, the thing is that he accused Comrade Khernynko of supporting militarism and imperialism just the other day. He does not and nether does the Elleltian government nor the Elleltian Communist Party.

We do; however, support self-defense and that does mean we have weapons and will use them if attacked or threatened with attack. While we trust our in-region neighbors as they are all communist or socialist states of some form or an other we do not trust other nations to not attack us. If it were a perfect world, everyone would be communist and there would be no need for war, or even states as Marx and Engels clearly described in their writings.

OOC: This becomes difficult when he rarely posts indicating his IC personage. When others do not indicate who they are speaking as, I refer to them by their national name. The Prince laughed. "It wouldn't have helped you!"

Taking a look around the bar again, he caught the groups of ambassadors setting about and chatting. Ms. Langdon and Mr. Khernyko were talking, and that odd man from Steweystan was nearby.

If you prefer, I will refer to you as the janitor, as that is the only personage I've actually seen you refer to yourself as in my short time playing here. For that matter, I do believe I have almost always (so far) referred to you as the "representative from Community Property", because of the absence of a signature.

Do yourself a favor, pal - if you really want to get things passed, or blocked, that are important to you, keep it relatively polite, even when IC. "Warm fuzzy reach arounds", and delegate pen popsicles, as terminology, when you never identify who you are speaking as, lead one to believe you are speaking OOC, not IC. Add to that, your OOC comments are extremely similar to the ones you make IC. Makes it hard to think there is any difference. I can play a bitch, but I am not one OOC. Actually I believe the ambassador has a point. We are not mind readers, or at least I am not, and I highly doubt anyone else here is either. Ellelt has several persons who speak for it and we make it a point to identify ourselves either within the body of the text or with our signature. In formal debates on the Floor I am either Alexander Serpov (the CPE Gensec), Vladimir Khernynko (the UN Ambassador). Nekstor Brunzov (Minister of Defense) Is used in II, and Demitri is used when he is needed.

Each and every time I do this because I do not think it is the responsibility of the members of the UN or of this forum generally to try and figure out which Bolshevik is speaking.

All that Drae Nei was asking for was to know which of your various stoned hippies you are acting as. This is merely a request to follow common protocol, hardly something anyone else would find undesirable, or rude in any way shape or form.

Now I must ask you...have you ever had athletes mouth? You keep your foot in there quite often.

IC: Neville placed a spare barstool on top of the counter.

"Gentlebeings, a brief public service announcement," he intoned.

"The proper way to start a brawl is to smash on of these over the head or shoulders of the brawlee," he continued, indicating the barstool. "They're carefully constructed to disintegrate in a truly satisfying way. This is not, after all, the General Assembly. We have standards here."

The announcement had the effect most such announcements do: people start making going-home noises.

Except, of course, for the formidable trio abandoned by the Yeldan ambassador.

Certainly, the Bar was the ideal habitat for a practitioner of Gonzo journalism. Certainly, The (original) Wild One would fit right in, though he might have to wait around a while if he wanted a Last Tango. But what to do with the polite, but damnably idealistic, Elinor?

Neville had seized on Cami's offer with relief. "Just don't swallow, smoke, imbibe or inject anything he gives you, and don't let her start improving your welfare system, because she will if you give her half a chance," he advised.

Unobserved, a robot destructor bunny did robot destructor bunny things. But Neville was too tired to notice.

So far, it looked like they were going to have a good turnout.

Taking a sip of her coffee, she debated joining Eleanor, Hunter and Marlon, but decided she just wasn't up to it yet. She grabbed her crossword puzzle and headed for her usual table.

Neville placed a spare barstool on top of the counter.Unobserved, a robot destructor bunny did robot destructor bunny things. But Neville was too tired to notice.

The barstool rose up into the air, floated across the room, and descended with considerable force upon the head of the 'robot destructor bunny' which collapsed to the ground. The stool -- apparently undamaged by that collision -- settled upright on the ground, and then the robotic bunny rose into the air and hurled out of the room through a fortuitously-open window. A distant clattering sound, and some faint swearing, arose from below...

"Got it," said Harvey. "That's one less fake Wabbit around. Gee, Felix was right, defenstrating enemies does make you feel better..."
Drae Nei
02-12-2006, 19:08
Cami chuckled at the neatly done bunny defenestration, and marveled at the stool. She filed the information away, should she need it in the future.

Taking a sip of her coffee, she looked at the next clue...

Stew enters, his chest bulging slightly from the bulletproof vest he's currently wearing under his robes and suit, and heads to the bar...

"Hello Cami, I hope your day is going well? Neville... Some Nadia Blue wine, please... thank you..."

Raising and eyebrow in humour, Stew asks Cami, "Was that a bunny that just floated out the window? It's language at the bottom sounds like something from the GA recently..."
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 02:41
"Hmmm? Oh, sorry Stew. I was buried in my crossword puzzle."

Cami stretched and looked at her watch.

"I've been working on this for hours now, but I finally finished. I like the really difficult ones."

"I think it's time for a drink. Can I get you anything while I am at the bar?"
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 02:50
"A glass of Nadia Blue Wine would be nice" Stew said with a smile, trying not to let some concern slip into his voice.

Stew nods politely, and steps back so as to give Cami some privacy. After a couple of minutes of sipping his wine, thinking, he decides to voice his concerns to her at a later time... No sense bothering her when she's got so many other things on her mind as well...

Quietly placing his glass on the bar, he heads out in search of a decent second hand book store.
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 09:07
Cami regretted that Stew had left, but she really hadn't been able to avoid the call. The President's Defense Minister had called, to discuss diplomatic matters, notably, the possibility of establishing an embassy exchange with Ariddia.

"A Calaidian Amber, please, Neville."

It was quite late, but she wanted to go over her guest list before she called it a day. It wasn't complete yet, but of those who had RSVP'd, twenty one were coming so far. Ambassador Roarth of Islenska hadn't replied yet, however, she had gotten word that the Kennyites may show up, unannounced.

Amost all of her staff would be there as well, with the exception of the two military folks who were on the duty roster for the night shift. That brought the number so far to thirty one, although Prince Tang was tentative, but she did expect Christopher to show up, if his schedule allowed it.

She'd seen most of the guests on the debate floor, but not all of them were regulars at the Stranger's Bar. She was looking forward to meeting them all personally.

Looking up, she noticed that the flyer she had left by the bar was gone.

"Neville, what happened to the flyer I put here? Did someone take it? I left you with extras..."

"It was one of the bunnies, Cami. It wandered in, and since it didn't see any drink umbrellas handy, it climbed up on the bar stool and ate your flyer."

Cami just looked at Neville. Those bunnies were odd.

"It was just before you came in earlier today, Cami. But someone or something apparently took offense, and the bunny was defenestrated."

She recalled the defenestration that morning, but hadn't realized that her flyer had perhaps caused it!

Cami laughed, and took another sip of her ale. "Grab me another flyer will you, Neville? It won't do to have this one gone already, it's probably the one most see."

Serph had watched his ambassador sink into yet another depression, following his apparent rejection. In the face of more exotic pursuits, it seemed, some delegates became less interested in discussing economic affairs. This turn of events only mildly disconcerted the Kriovaller monarch, though it was infrequent that he could escape the gravity well of the Capital, or of the White City just to its east. Then he had seen the flyer, and he hoped that he was not too late.

"Please excuse my interruption," the dark-skinned paladin said toward Cami, recognizing her from a recent dossier that had crossed his desk, "but I was wondering whether our nation might arrange a delegation to attend your function. Of course, given the lateness of our request..."

Cami Langdon walked into the Bar, along with her office manager, Ruth Fielding. "I'll get us a drink, Ruth, then we can go over that hors d'oeuvre menu for the party."

After getting them each a mimosa, Cami joined Ruth at her usual table.

"I'm providing Jimmy with a copy of the guest list, Ruth, and letting him be responsible for the bar stock. That way, we'll have drinks from all nations who are attending, as well as some of Drae Nei's finest beverages."

Ruth nodded, and replied. "That's kind of what I've tried to do with the food also, Cami, but Lord some of these people eat strange things!"

Cami checkled, thinking over the events of the last few weeks. If Ruth thought the foods were strange, she didn't know the half of it!

Idly, she noticed a newcomer had entered the Bar.

Entering, Stew notices a newcomer, and smiles in his direction.

Stupid bulletproof vest... chaffing...

He goes to the bar and orders a Nadia Blue wine, fiddling with a book, and looking around a little nervously, and sees Cami. Stew apporaches and smiles nervously.

"Ummmm... Cami, I have a concern that I need to express to you, if possible..."
Drae Nei

"I took no offense- business before relaxation." Stew smiled at Cami. "It isn't private, but is of some concern to me... Ummm... as you may- or may not know, I had to attend the funeral of my Secretary recently. Things did not go well, I'm afraid."

Stew frowns abit before continuing, "His brother took a Vow of Wrath at the funeral, claiming I am to blame for his brother's death, in that after I fired him, he killed himself. Under the Vow of Wrath, the Accused, and those associated with him- Family... and Friends- like you are at risk of harm during the intended assassination attempt. I would like you to take what steps the Major can to keep you safe... I would hate to lose my first friend here..."

Fiddling with his tie, Stew, makes a nervous throat clearing noise.

Vladimir Khernynko, the Elleltian Ambassador walks into the bar after having to deal with a great deal of problems in both the UN and also in the Regional politics of the ACS.

He spots the Grand Utoy of Steweystan and also the representive of Drae Nei and approaches them.

"Hello Grand Utoy, Madam Ambassador."

Cami smiled at the Elleltian Ambassador warmly.

Addressing Stew, Cami stated, "This sounds serious, Stew."

03-12-2006, 19:58
"The Vow of Wrath is something from centuries ago during Clan days- and has yet to be taken off the books. Nothing may come of it, as my Police Forces are currently tracking him down... but better to be safe, then sorry, right" Stew gives Cami a reassuring smile. "Perhaps your Major can offer some more advice on alternate techniques that can be used to prevent anything from happening?"
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:03
"I'll certainly let Major Robards know, and see if he can offer any suggestions, Stew. In the mean time, if I were you, I would have your own local authorities keep an eye on this man. You may also want to let UN Security know. My team technically has no authority here, other than for the safety of my own delegation."

While Cami was concerned for the Grand Utoy, she really had little to offer, regarding his own personal safety.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 20:08
"I would be thankful for any advice he can offer, and my people are currently keeping their eye on him," Stew taps his chest, making a soft thumping noise, "And I am taking some precautions of my own. And I have let UN Security know as well."

Taking a sip, Stew brightens up, "Luckily, the Vow limits him to a knife, so I should be quite safe."
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:11

"I may be expecting problems at our Open House already, Stew. Rumor has it the Kennyites may show up. That could make things very interesting."

"Yes, one way to beat a very old law. hehehe." Smiling even broader, Stew takes a drink, "I have yet to meet the Kennyites, but I have heard... things. I hope it doesn't cause too much of a problem at the party."

Turns to Ambassador Khernynko, taking a flier, "It would be a pleasure to attend, Ambassador," Stew says with another bright smile.
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:19
"Yes, Vladimir, thank you. I believe Ruth has already submitted our RSVP. We're looking forward to attending!"

Cami smiled brightly at the Elleltian representative.

"Me too, Stew. There was a mention of...setting things on fire", she said with a sigh.
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 20:25
"Well, my Secretary, Demitri is in charge of the RSVP functions. I would do it myself but I'm quite busy at the moment. As for the Kennyites...yes they will make the party amusing to say the least. I've worked with them in the past and have great respect for the UN Delegation."

Vladimir drank his shot of vodka.

"I will also be attending your opening reception with my secretary. I hope you do not consider my Party Uniform to be too casual. The Uniform itself was designed to look much like the work cloths of an Elleltian factory worker and I often wear it on the UN floor. Ellelt has recently banned the use of business suits you see."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 20:26
Stew raises an eyebrow at Cami, "Setting things on fire? Rather bad form at a party, don't you think? Ambassador Khernynko, may I offer to buy you a drink?"
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:29
"Not at all, Vladimir, your Party uniform is perfectly acceptable."

Cami chuckled. "So, you've banned business suits? I've always wondered why the males in my nation choose to conduct business with nooses tied around their necks, albeit ones they put there themselves!"

"And yes Stew, I would think that would be rather bad form!"
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 20:31
"I would appreciate it. Barkeep, we should like two shots of Ziberian Jack, one for myself and my friend here."

Vladimir looks to the Grand Utoy of Steweystan.

"This is a quite popular liquor in my country. You'll notice that it has a citrus after taste."

At the last minute Demitri rushes in to the Bar and hands the link to Ambassador Khernynko.

"Sorry to disturb you comrade, but this is where UN Delegate members may go to RSVP thier attendence with me...I should have gotten it to you sooner."

"Demitri, worry not...you have a full plate."

Vladimir looks at the link:

Takes the shot, and smiles, "Well, I shall have to bring you a bottle of Nadia Blue wine as a Peace offering at your function. You may like it." Downing the shot, Stew grins broadly after a few seconds, "Very nice indeed. A few more of these, and I may just remove this "noose" of mine." Stew grins at Cami while fiddling a little with his tie.

"Any idea why the Kennyites would want to light something on fire in the first place? I'm rather intrigued by them right now. Hehehe"
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:42
"Apparently, it's just what they do, Stew. Show up drunk and rowdy, with a penchant for trashing the place." Cami sighed. "We'll just have to deal with it, if they show up."

"By the way, Stew...did you know that the bunny that got defenestrated in here yesterday ate my flier? Neville told me last night when I noticed the one at the bar was missing. They certainly do seem to like eating paper, although I think they are overly fond of the drink umbrellas."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 20:45
"I shall have to watch for them, then." Stew get an amused look on his face, "Ate your flier did it? Interesting... They eat paper, and write with chocolate. I saw it get defensawatsis out the window. Was an interesting sight, to be sure." Chuckling, Stew orders another round of drink.

"How many of the items at your party will be destructble? Might assist in the clean up..."
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 20:49
"Grand Utoy, there is no need for a peace offering, however I will accept your wine. Ellelt is too cold to produce wine, but we do import it from some of our more southernly neighbors, although its not exactly a beverage that is purchased in large quantities. Most of the Imported wine is used for diplomatic entertainment rather than as an article of mass consumption. Elleltians prefer distilled sprits usually. Vodka, Ziberian Jack, and we also have beer, which is prefered in the summer.

As for the Kennyites being intoxicated and setting things on fire...well we have never seen it first hand, but thats a possiblity with any delegate that has more than his or her share of drinks."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 20:52
"Are you able to grow blueberries, Ambassador Khernynko? We make our wines from various berries that grow in the Nadia province. And I agree about delegates and drinking... I remember one rather enjoyable brawl at my Sister's wedding."
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 20:53
"I'm not really going to worry about it, Stew. If they do show up and wreck anything, we'll simply bill them for the replacements."

Cami smiled, and turned the conversation toward more work related topics.

"By the way, it looks like there is no way the repeal of the WHL can fail. Votes are running seven to two in favor of the repeal."

As an aside to Ruth, sitting there looking bored, Cami added, "The menu looks fine, Ruth, thanks for your input. You're free to go, and I'll touch base with you later."

Ruth replied simply, "Thanks boss", and headed out of the bar.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 20:59
"Hehehe... Yes, I noticed that about the Vote... But some people just enjoy fighting to the bitter end... kinda heroic... but not in this case..."
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 21:00
Vladimir had finally decided that it was time for an other shot of Ziberian Jack and so ordered one.

"Well blueberries are not native to my country, but the Urzak Republic produces them, but they are used as food as there isn't a very large crop. We do produce a hard cider from apples and pears though although Ive not heard anyone drinking it except during the Winter Solstice Celebration."

"On the issue of the WHL repeal, while I personally agree with the sentiment of the original resolution its application has lead to much abuse and should be repealed. I would also like a replacement but my government feels that its better left to the individual nations to determine environmental legislation and not a matter for the UN to become involved in except in areas like say the ozone layer or pollutants/contamination that will cross national boundaries."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 21:04
"Well, Ambassador, maybe we can get together and arrange a Trade Agreement of some sort," Stew smile broadly, ordering a Nadia Blue Wine.
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 21:11
"That Grand Utoy may be possible, but we would probably be interested in purchasing fruits which are lacking the Elleltian diet because of our climate. Ellelt is fortunate that we are nearly self-sufficient in most areas, we need only import fruit, rubber, tin, and spices. Thats one benefit of having a large territory. We could probably remove the need to import fruit if we could find a way to irrigate our south-eastern deserts but our agricultural technology is lacking in that area."

Vladimir took a pinch of his apricot scented snuff and held the box open before the Grand Utoy and the Madame Ambassador of Drae Nei.

"This is our most popular vice...our fine snuffs."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 21:14
"Hmmmm," Stew says to the Ambassador from Ellelt, "I can see what I can do about exporting some of our fruits as part of an agreement." Looking at the snuff, Stew politely shakes his head, "Thank you, but not thank you, I'm quite content with my wine." Hold up his wine glass, the wine sparkling a nice deep blue colour.
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 21:25
"Oh its no problem at all. Tobacco use is declining in our country as well. I would like to see your trade proposal, I'm not sure how we would go about it as you are not in the ACS but I'm sure arrangements can be made."

Vladimir sniffed loudly the snuff tickling his nose.
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 21:26
Cami declined on the snuff as well, politely.

"Stew, I had a glass of your Nadia Blue the other night. It really is quite good!" She smiled warmly at Stew.

"Vladimir, perhaps Drae Nei could also assist you with some produce. I'll have my Deputy draw up a list of what we have to offer, and forward it to your offices."
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 21:32
Giving Cami a warm smile back, Stew said, "Why thank you, I'll make sure to bring a bottle to your party as well for you. We also make wine out of strawberries, raspberries, and even dandilions. We also have a nice little potoatoe cider we make as well."

Stew pulls out his pencil and notepad and jots down a few notes for later, "I'll discuss a few things with my Ministers of Agriculture and International Trade, when I go the Capitol, Ambassdor."

Looking around the bar, Stew suggests possibly sitting at a table, and ordering some food to go with our drinks...

(OCC- Yeah the lag booted me for a bit)
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 21:35
"Food sounds good, Stew, I'm a little hungry. Would you mind getting us some menus? I need to use the Ladies Room, I'll be back in a minute."

Cami smiled at her tablemates, and excused herself.
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 21:36
"We would look forward to trading our industrial goods with anyone. You may find that contrary to popular belief goods produced in communist countries are of high quality. It is unfortunate that that belief came about because of lacks in the educational programs of other nations. Ellelt strives for high quality goods even if at the current time we are more busy working on capital goods rather than consumer goods."

Vladimir drank his shot of Ziberian Jack, savoring the orange/lemon-esque flavor of the spirit.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 21:42
"I see no reason why items produced in a Communist/Socialist Nation should be any less well made that that made in a Capitalist one... Isn't it all a matter of the training provided those doing the job, rather than the Government Ideals? Excuse me for a second while I fetch us some menus and a refill on my glass."

Stew gets up and heads to the bar.

"Excuse me Neville, may I have some menus please? Thank you." Stew takes the menus and returns to the table, and takes a seat, "I've found the chicken ceasar wrap quite good here..."
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 21:50
Cami returned to the table, and picked up the menu.

"I noticed you seem to like that, Stew. I've actually not tried anything in here, so far."

She opened her menu and began to browse.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 21:56
Stew looks over the menu, taking an occasional sip of wine, "The Flamethrower Spiced Buffalo Beef Wrap sounds good too, I might try that tonight, along with the Jalepano Poppers."

Looking at Cami and the Ellelt Ambassador, Stew, gets a slightly bemused look on his face, "I'll be glad with the arguing on the WHL is finished and we can get on with something else to argue about... though I have managed to learn some interesting phrases. Hehehe"
Ellelt
03-12-2006, 22:00
"Well, Demitri's wife makes a fine borscht and we will be having that as one of the entrées for our reception...this talk of food is making me hungry. As for the quality of goods in communist vs. capitalist countries the argument isn't one of governmental ideals, rather one of economic organization. I will be leaving now so as I can see if I can bother Demitri's wife into feeding me...she is an excellent cook...almost makes wish to find a woman to marry..almost.

Perhaps, we should invite you, Madam Ambassador or Grand Utoy, to tour one of our automobile/tractor factories. A steel foundry might be too dangerous, and well an arms manufacturing center would require Brunzov's permission...not just the permission of the soviet of the factory to be toured."

Vladimir stood to leave the bar and go to the parking garage and get in his Embassy Car to take the trip out to the hotel where Petrovich Family was staying now due to the funds being sent from the government.
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 22:04
Cami grinned at Stew, sharing his amusement.

"I know what you mean, Stew. I think I've learned a few too! I think I'll try the Beef Greek Salad, myself, along with a Calaidian Amber."

"I'm sorry you are not joining us, Vladimir, perhaps another time."

Cami said goodbye to the Elleltian, and motioned for a server to take their order.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 22:04
"I'll be looking forward to sampling the Borscht, Ambassador. And I would certainly enjoy a tour of one of your plants. Perhaps a mutual exchange of workers can be worked out as well- part of a Cultural Exchange Program." Stew smiles broadly as he stands up to acknowledge the Ambassador's departure, and once he had left, regains his seat.

"Today is proving to be more productive in here than in the GA, wouldn't you say?" Stew looks towards Cami, feeling satisfied.
Drae Nei
03-12-2006, 22:08
"It's the weekend, Stew. I've noticed the GA is quieter then, which is fine with me. We all need some down time."

Cami placed her order, and handed her menu to the server.
Steweystan
03-12-2006, 22:13
Ordering, Stew hands back the menu. "True. I'm not used to much down time, I'm afraid... Though I did get a chance to browse a few decent book stores the other day."

Stew tilts his head abit as he examines Cami's face, an eyebrow raised slightly, "Tell me about your Homeland... What is it like there- and how do you feel when away from it?"
