In the high tops of space there was a station. This station was miles and miles long and wide. It was like nothing anyone had ever seen before. This place harbored some of the most gifted individuals in the universe. Those the likes of heros and villians reside here as the neutral elders prepare them and send them on there way. They care neither for the likes of mortals, but wish to prepare there powers and hone them so they can at least control them. This school brings the gifted from all corners into three class's. The class of Good: Heroic Alliance, the class of evil: The League of Villians, the class of lone wolfs: Black Star. These three schools work together, but also compete until the final battle must commence. It will test villians and hero's alikes for the ultimate challenge. The massive space station carrys rooms for thousands, arenas, classrooms, and many other areas for excersising the young ones gifts. Super teachers perform most of these tasks and are apointed by the elders.

OCC: Assume your charecters have already arrived at the front( the station is ina bubble shield, so there's a field in front of the school)

Minervra Okan looked around confidently as the *cough vehicle that brought her* left her standing within the atmospheric bubble. The majority of her luggage -- including her ticket into this school -- had been hauled into her residence, wherever that may be; the staff had made sure to emphasize that the suit was to be worn only in designated situations. She wasn't married to her armor, though, unlike some warriors, but she much preferred the sealed interior and 3-D HUD of the Chozo-designed battle armor. Success in this program would lead to her promotion in the GFSM to the rank of Sergeant, and an upgrade to the Varia type armor.

She strode forward, looking out for other students as she approached the threshold of the building. Spotting no one in her glances, she called out into the hallway.

"Hello? My name is Minervra Okan, Galactic Federation Guardian? I'm here for the educational program?"

Mathieu stood apart from the rest. He looked down at his hands, knuckles still raw from the last scrape he'd gotten into. On the way to the station, he'd been jumped on a lonely country road outside a gas stop. He reached into his pocket, rotating the selection on the iPod he'd taken from his defeated mugger. Shifting his pack, Mathieu sighed. The guy listened to rap mostly, and there were only about three songs he liked. He hoped he could find a computer and erase it.

ooc: can we assume what our teachers teach?

ic:

Delphina made a short prayer before getting things ready for classes to start. It was her first time teaching at the School, and she wanted to do it right. In bold letters, she wrote on the blackboard, 'Professor Davis.' She disliked her moniker; it hadn't been her who had chosen it, though most of the world still knew her as Deadlight. There were whispers in her head.

"Go away for now," she whispered back, "I've got classes soon."

Rathma was getting ready to teach his class. He wasn't nervous and he was well prepared for the eager students. He was teaching the use of powers and the abilities that they carry. He was teaching in an arena where he was preparing the room to be used for dueling. Rathma glanced around as he finally finished putting together a new device.

'Save the Hostage,' thought Rathma to himself as he laughed at the thought. 'It'll teach students to use their abilities better and dueling will take a few things off their minds,'

Rathma was the teacher for Defence's, Attack and teaching students their abilities that they will master. He mad no doubts the first lot will be cocky or slightly shy. Rathma thought for a moment and wondered if it was possible to expose their powers. He threw that thought out of his mind as he looked at the pile of rocks sitting to one side. Rathma reach out his hand and used his Force ability to pull one of the rocks over to him. He spun it around in mid air for a moment before placing it back on the pile. He took out his flask and drank some of the substance quietly as he waited for his class to arrive. He wrote up on the black board with the chalk as he used his Force ability:

'Professor Phoenix' he wrote on the board as he sat down on the ground and meditated for a moment.

One of teachers of the class of Lone Wolves: Black Star but he was willing to train the villians and heroes as all needed to be taught how to tame their powers no matter what their views were.

Meanwhile

Lucus had finally arrived at school and was eager to start but was slightly nervous around the others. He looked at his tube on the side of his belt as he remembered he filled it up with sand earlier before he came. The school looked grand but like always he didn't know where to go.
"Where is everyone?" he asked himself as he headed towards the front door hoping he could find someone soon.

OCC: yes, you can assume most things ^^

Kash was rather shy when he reached the school. He sat out at the front and marveld at its immense size. He saw a kid listing to an ipod, taking note the messed up knuckles. He then walked up to Minervra and was straight forward " Hey, I'm new here, probably like you, umm..want to be freinds?"

"Friends?" Minervra feigned thinking for a moment, before grinning and taking his offered hand (assumed). "Sure, why now? Call me Min." She looked around again, and noticed what seemed to be a staff member walking through the halls.

"Hi," she said to him, "Could I ask where my dorm is?"

"You could," the man responded coolly. "I don't presume I get so much as a name in return?"

Min blushed. "I'm sorry... I am Minervra Okan. I don't suppose--"

"Down this hallway, and to the left." He smiled at her amazement. "Combination telepath and eidetic memory, kiddo. I know that you are the one who is infused with Chozo blood and presumed by the Galactic Federation to be the future savior of the world." The man leaned in a bit closer. "I also know that you have many faults, both personal and external, that need correcting before you're fit to save a cat in a tree."

The man nodded satisfactorily and walked away, and Min watched, not with disgust nor contempt, but with trepidation. What did this teacher -- presumably -- know that she didn't?

"Well, see ya," she said to Kash, not even knowing his name. "I'm headed to my room."

" But...ya..see ya" He said lowering his head before walking into the school. He asked the same man, and he pointed him towards the boys dorms. There were three armed guards standing in front of all the students. They sorted the gifted ones out to there respective classes. Kash was sent to Black Star, the place was filled with cold and almost dark beings. Punks, anarchists, and the like to cause trouble but not completely evil.

"I'm getting sick of people knowing my name!" Min said shrilly, before realizing that it was a professor who had spoken to her. Flushing once more with embarrassment, she looked at the source of the voice, surprised to see a very petite and pale woman at about chest level or so with her.

"So sorry, ma'am," she said hastily. "It is a pleasure to meet you Professor Davis. My name is --" Min broke off, a toothy grin appearing. "But you already know that, don't you?" Looking thoughtfully into the classroom over the top of Davis's head, she tried to see the inside. "Might I ask what you teach, Professor?"

Kash sat down in his bunk, below him was another person. He looked the Raver type, he was lisnting to techno with headphones on, had spikey blue hair, tight pants and glowsticks on his wrist in almost a rainbow pattern. Kash walked in and the Raver didn't pay him any attention. He saw the other bed in the room and sat down as he heard gunshots in the hallways. The Black Star had run down dorms, with druggess and other supers in the hallways. The elders wanted them to embrace there independant lifestyle. Heros would find fine dorms and the villians would find gothic ones. Kash set his stuff on his bed and began unpacking.

Clytus Sareau looked over his acceptance letter. They were going to give him quarters in the League dorm, due to his parentage and "powers better suited to theft".
It wasn't fair-he had little say in the contributors to his gene pool, and morality and ethics are hardly inheritted matters. Still, the dark gothic trappings suited him better than the squeaky clean dorms of the Heroic Alliance, and the seedy dorms of Black Star-he shuddered inwardly, glad he at least qualified for decent quarters, even if he was probably the only one to climb the rope in gym without resorting to his powers.
THe nice thing about the League was it didn't particularily care if the student body made itself more comfortable using their abilities. Quietly, he began lifting proper furnishings from Known Space-a king-sized round bed, a Louis XIV armoire he'd fancied, the Captain's seat from the original Star Trek series. He thought carefully, shifting various portraits over his bed and returning them when found wanting...

Lucus was wondering through the hallways when he found his dorm. He found an empty bunk and threw his stuff onto it before he went outside again. Lucus quietly opened his jar and took some sand out before putting it back in. His eyes glanced about as he wondered through the hallways. He wasn't looking for anything until he found an opened door and looked through.

'Must be a fighting arena,' he thought to himself as he noticed someone was sitting down in the main area.

He shaved the little bit of hair he had on his chin and snapped his finger. He walked out to see the Raver still blasting away with his ipod, there was a crappy kitchen and a little T.V. Kash looked around in the little bunkroom, the door open with the smell of weed coming in. " This isn't the best place, but hell, It will do." He peaked his head through the door and looked down the stairs, and he saw the masses of people walking by the door, doing drugs and firing off weapons.

I can't wait for FUS

Leaving the professor behind, Min found her way to her room, where her luggage had been packed neatly away into the drawers and closet, the bed was made, and the room had a general air of cleanliness. Indeed, it seemed good to be Good. Looking around, she checked in the closet. Tapping a knot, she was pleased to see that this place had aquiesced to the Federation's request. Resting within a compartment was the Power Suit, gleaming and polished.

She closed and locked the door so that she could disrobe to her Jumpsuit (cross-section) (http://mdb.classicgaming.gamespy.com/sm/np_comics/npcomics_2-1.jpg). The sections of the armor came together neatly, as intended, and she once more felt the power of the Chozo-designed combat armor. Nodding as the diagnostics ran, she checked the map system. Sure enough, the school had been cartographed by the system. Locking on to the survival class, she headed in that direction.

Within, a cane-carrying man watched the room hungrily, so it seemed. She looked at the board apprehensively:

"Surviving when your fancy tech fails"

That left a foreboding feeling in her gut.

"I'm going to have a look around first," finished Lucus as he whizzed out of the room.

Rathma left the students as he walked towards his classroom. His legs were part of him as his claws attached himself into the walls if he was required to do so. He arrived back at the arena to find Lucus had arrived. This was his first class for the year but he was still keen to make his students become more powerful with their skills. It would seem that Lucus might take longer because of his lack in skill of his power in the Vampire Supernatural. Rathma walked down to the centre of the room as he stood next to Lucus.

"Must be Lucus," started Rathma as he took a small stone and used his force abilities to make it hover in his hands. "My name is Professor Phoenix,"

"Hell...Hello sir," replied a nervous Lucus as he looked up and noticed a girl had arrived at the class.

"You must be Luna?" shouted out Rathma. "Are you here to enhance your powers?"

DG, watched as more students filed into his room. He then passed out a paper that detailed the rules* in his class. Now are there any questions about these rules?

*
1. No use of any powers while in class, this class is to prepare yourself in case a villain somehow leaves you powerless and to teach you how to track an opponent without fancy electronics.
2. If you use your powers twice while in this class, you will be kicked out for the rest of the semester.(unless I tell you to use them)
3. This will be a coed class(ie both villains and heroes), so there will be no fighting during class, even if they are your arch enemy.
4. The final exam will be you dropped off without your armor, your powers drained ,etc in the nearby Protoct Jungle, if you make it back to the school within 48 hours you pass.

Death
Death glanced at the rules, then at his classmates. He noticed how some of them didn't seem to like rule number 4...

As he arrived, the clouds parted--and well they should, for he had made them. He was a fair-skinned young man, not at all bad to look at, with a fine bowl of brown hair sitting over his glimmering brown eyes. Something almost liquid seemed to stir within those eyes as he glanced at the doorway.

"It's not big enough," he said. "My case won't fit."

It was only then that two large, lumbering figures in special Hazmat Suits seemed to coalesce out of the fog behind him. They carried large sticks, but, when they spoke, they did not speak softly.

"That's not our problem," the nearest one said, with a voice so full of contempt that one could almost hear the sneer on his face inside the suit. "Our orders are to leave you here. Anything you take with you is optional."

"As you wish," the young man replied, no stir of emotion seeming to come over his features.

Pfffff--fffffff--ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffttttttt!

The inner edge of the doors dissolved. He smiled a vile, wicked smile.

"There," he said. "Problem solved."

He reached into the chamber and pulled out a rather large, wheeled cart. Grasping its handle firmly, he was able to get its entire bulk through the door before either of the two large, lumbering figures was able to emerge.

"Dat was a mistake, brat," one said, his stick at the ready. "Now we can't get out of airlock."

"Do I have to solve all your problems for you?" he asked, not the least bit threatened.

"No," the guard replied, "I'll solve da problem dis time." As he spoke, he raised his stick.

There was no sound, but the ground seemed to shake for a moment.

"What was dat?" the guard asked.

"Oh, nothing much," the boy replied, his features building to a horrible look of glee as he moved from the beginning to the end of the sentence, "I just call it 'Silent But Deadly.' Has quite a ring to it, don't you think?"

As he finished speaking, the guard's club and his gas mask both turned to ash. The look on his face, now bare, turned from anger to terror as the boy watched--and smiled brightly. In a moment, the man was holding his throat and trying to scream--but failing.

The man behind him grabbed him and pulled him back. It dragged him out of the invisible cloud that had formed around him, and probably saved his life.

"So," he said, "you've learned to dissolve the special materials, too."

"I like solving problems," the boy said. "or should is say dis-solving them. Now, you'd better run along. You wouldn't like it if you got caught in a freak accident or something."

Pffft-fft-fft-fft-fft!

The guard who could still talk heard the sound and immediately dragged his companion back into the departure tube. They would have to figure something out later.

And the boy nonchalantly grasped the handle on his cart and began pulling it along the path to the dorm rooms.

Of course, it did not take him long to grow tired of hauling its weight.

He sighed.

Then, he walked around to the back of the cart and lie down on his stomach on top of it, with his legs dangling off the back.

FWOOOOOOOSSSHHHHHHHH!!!

A jet of flaming gas erupted behind the cart. It quickly propelled it until it was going much faster than the boy could have carried it. Needless to say, it didn't take him long to reach the dorm room.

"I'm going to give you your first lesson Lucus," started Rathma. "But first, we meditate for a moment to clear our minds," finished Rathma.

The pair sat down opposite of each other on the cold ground. Lucus thought it was strange doing meditation but he didn't wanted to upset or make trouble with Professor Phoenix. He closed his eyes as he attempted to clear his mind as he started to feel himself rocking from side to side. He quickly opened his eyes as he realised he was just rocking by himself. Lucus closed his eyes again to avoid Professor Phoenix from telling him off.

"Now open your eyes," started Rathma.

Lucus slowly opened his eyes. He glanced around as he realised he was in a place that looked like it was from hell. Black and purplish coloured spirits danced in the background as Rathma appeared as a werewolf before him. His eyes were a hellish red and Lucus was starting to panic.

"Don't panic," started Rathma as he used his force abilities to pull a rock over to them. "I've done an illusion. We're in the arena but I've twisted your mind to think your somewhere else. Its part of knowing the Supernatural Werewolf abilities," briefed Rathma as he hold the stong in mid air while Lucus started to calm down gently. "I've studied the Supernatural Vampire abilities and they're similar to the Werewolf one. However, you have two unique skills just like a werewolf has two unique skills in this form. I want you to punch the air but aim it at the rock," finished Rathma as he forced pull the rock over to Lucus about 20 metres from him.

"Punch to the rock but I don't hit it?" questioned Lucus as Rathma nodded his head.

Lucus felt like an idoit when he punched the air and nothing happened. Lucus felt like he failed the professor but Professor Phoenix told him to focus his power, energy and hate into the punch again. Professor Phoenix held the rock from a distance with his Vampire Spiritual abilities. Lucus did it again and this time, a black and purplish blade came out of his hands and smashed through the rock. The pounding could be heard a fair distance away from the arena but Rathma hoped he wasn't interupting classes.

"A bit too powerful," stated Professor Phoenix as Lucus stopped for a moment.

"Hi, I'm Delphina," she told the students, "And I'll teach you the finer points of Ethics as you explore, refine and define your powers. Ethics are an integral part of having powers; they define our restraint, our moral purpose, how we use our powers and how these thoughts and actions affect others. I myself am a telepath...most notably in necromancy. My powers can sense all of your thoughts easily, but I restrain myself from breaking through the barrier of your mind...isn't that pleasant?"

Gregory cleared his throat, and, reading from his class guide, said, "Professor Phoenix?" "What happened to the professor?" Lucus asked the Spirit as he noticed a new student had arrived.

"The professor is me or is part of me. Don't worry about him, worry about the hostage...and your opponet," explained the Spirit as Lucus looked surprised. "Remember, there will be no tolerating with deaths of any kind. The exams are going to be based on one massive random war from history that you'll be taken part of. Heroes will side with one and Villians will side with the other," finished the spirit.

I will use my powers in a match-this course's purpose is to hone them-so what if I move my opponent to a point safe from the vantage point of your illusion, but deadly in a very real sense?
"You claim a zero tolerence for fatalities-what if my reacting to your illusion creates one? I move Mr. Mongomery, here, five feet to the left, so he cannot land a punch-but five feet to the left is the wall of our area-I have just killed him, and due to no fault of my own, as I believed it was simply empy space.
"I have no doubt of my powers, nor yours-my concern is that I may accidentally kill someone and I've no desire for that.
"I had no intention of bypassing your illusion, but once my subject is moved, he's moved-and if your illusion is that nothing's there, but something actually is-well, hopefully it's nowhere vital-but supposing I should shift my opponent into space thinking it's open air? You can see my concern..."

Rufus Lannergan wasn't looking when his foot, moving at a high rate of speed due to his leisurely running, caught on an upturned tile stone. The slight stagger, combined with his momentum, managed to bring both feet into the air for three seconds. That was rather enough, and Rufus realized this as he closed his eyes, mentally berating himself while at the same time looking forward to what was in store. That is, whatever was in store for him following the impending landing.

Rufus Lannergan seemed to fall out of an open yet unviewed closet door when he landed, spectacularly, on his face in the main lobby of the facility. He picked himself up, straightened his favorite (and often only) coat, and reached for the sudden lump in the inner pocket that wasn't there before. When he pulled his hand out, a full set of credentials were in it, along with a position for a teaching job at some new school. Based on the similarities between the letterhead and the decorations on the walls and floor, Rufus figured he was where he was supposed to be. Now it was a matter of time.

Approaching the receptionist at the round kiosk-like front desk, he placed the papers down, stating calmly "Hello. I'm Rufus Lannergan, here for a teaching position." The receptionist smiled, took the papers, glanced at them, then placed them in an envelope before handing Rufus another paper and both ID badge and access card.

"You'll need these Mr. Lannergan. You'll find your room prepared and guidelines for the curriculum, though of course most decisions are up to you. Also, I received a note that Professor Phoenix would appreciate your attendance at his class. It's near your own classroom."

"Thank you. And please, Rufus will suffice." Rufus pocketed the items. His room could wait, but this Rothman was probably already expecting him, based on the quick glance that he got at the schedule. He headed there directly. When he arrived, he saw students, though the room appeared to be two separate sets of objects inadvertently occupying the same space. It was when one shifted slightly that he realized one was an illusion, and as it became apparent that there was some educational basis for this, he focused on the maintained illusion, subtly impressed with the finesse.

"Professor Rothman? Rufus Lannergan, you wanted me?" he asked as he stepped into the room.

Rathma was suddenly confused. A student had used long, complex and often expanded on everything. The spirit looked at him as it darted above the students.

"I understand your concern. Let me show you the arena," replied Rathma as he halted the illusion and returned to reality. "Hello!" shouted Rathma as his voice echoed against the walls around the arena. The arena was roughly 700m's wide with firm walls standing about 200 metres high and seats could be seen. "The arena fighting circle is roughy 700 metres wide. You would also notice that the arena is clear, open and there's no objects standing in anyone's range so you don't have to worry about throwing another student into an object," explained Rathma as he looked up.

He noticed there was another man at the door way about 20 metres behind him.

"It's Professor Phoenix as students call me or Rathma as the other teachers referred to me," replied Rathma as he turned to the other students for a moment. "I want you to have a look around and take some mental notes of how big the arena is so when we have matches, you won't go too far that way or the other way,"

Rathma went to his normal human form as he came over to the new teacher.

"It's actually Professor Phoenix or Rathma that I perferred to be called. Just don't call me Professor Rathma. It's not right," started Rathma. "Anyhow, did you get the note about a duel in front of the students? I'm hoping we can get duels started so that the students can get a feel for the real world. Don't kill each other but we'll stop when serious injuries are inflected. Are you up for this?" briefed Rathma.

I apologize for the error. And call me Rufus. As for your wishes, I'm fully prepared to assist. Allow me a moment, and then we may begin at your convenience."

Rufus went to side, finding a bench near the entrance, where he placed his hat and coat. Once that was finished, he returned to Rothma's side, and said "Alright, I am ready. First blow to slow the other down, you said, and nothing too permanent. On your count, professor."

Rufus, it's just going to be knocking the other into the seats behind us," explained Rathma as he looked at Rufus for a moment and then bowed. "On my mark. 3...two...one," finished Rathma as he faced his hands down while doing a Force Push that sent him flying backwards towards the wall. His eyes darkened as he turned into a werewolf before turning into his demonic werewolf state. Rathma's fur dripped of blood as he used his force ability to bring a massive boulder across the room towards Rufu just to distract him while he sent a Force Push at another side of Rufu.

Rufus saw the boulder come at his right, but dodged left before being thrown back by some unknown force. He managed to land some 3 meters back in crouching position, his feet wide and his body low. He leaped to the side and started running in it Rathma from the angle, then switched directions to run at a large boulder. He leapt slightly, got his feet onto the angled side of the boulder, and pushed off into a flying leap towards Rathma, spinning in the air to ward off another shove while he was airborne.

The Sphincter walked into the room, two freshly-recruited lackies in tow, just as the boulder flew past Rufus. Now, the boulder was headed straight for him.

He stood there, arms crossed in his leather trench coat, a look of complete contempt on his face, which was completely visible, as his goggles were up on the cap and not over his eyes.

Pffffffftt! Pffffffffft!

Very quickly, the boulder first melted, then vaporized in a tortured hiss.

"Are we late?" he asked, arms still crossed, the look on his face changing from contempt to malevolent amusement. "Did we misss something?"

Behind him, his lackies laughed arrogantly.

Sareau sent a ping through the arena-a subtle ripple that returned with exact knowledge of the room's dimensions, one of the applications of his power that his grandfather had drilled him in extensively. Papau Wilber had been a sorceror of some skill, founder of the notorious Injustice Gang whose hijinks were overshadowed by the actions of a funny little man with a funny little moustache. Clytus always felt the old man was disappointed no one in the family could make the leap of faith to work magic, but he schooled his grandson in those first fledgeling steps, using a bizarre mix of alchemical jargon, Victorian theosophy, and nonEuclidean mathematics.
Sareau pondered contacting Papau, to see if he'd drag himself up from his dusty old mauseleum to continue overseeing his grandson's development, when the oddly dressed fellow with two minions in tow dissolved a boulder with a flatulency.
It reminded him of the Chimera, a super-soldier experiment from Vietnam who could belch forth all manner of noxious chemicals. He wondered if there was a familial tie...

Rathma stepped back for a moment and looked at Rufus who was know about to kick him back towards the wall. The next moment he was caught off guard when a student arrived late and vaporised the bouder. Rathma was sent flying backwards since he was badly caught off guard from the student arriving. Rathma slammed into the wall behind him and fell to the ground before he looked up. His eyes darted about as he picked himself up and charged up his force ability with his hands. He was gathering much power as part of his Supernatural abilities were slightly going into the charge. Rathma jumped up slightly and fire the charge directly at Rufus feet. It headed towards Rufus feet as Rathma had the plan going through his mind. His plan was to fire the charge at Rufus feet which then throws him at an angle and if he had the height corrected, it would throw Rufus into the seats which meant the duel was over.

"Student, take a seat and I'll be with you once the duel is over," shouted Rathma as he kept his eyes on Rufus.

Lucus went up the steps as he watched the two professors do a mock duel. He looked up and noticed a new boy had arrived. He turned to another boy (Sareau).

Rufus was oddly surprised at the success of his aerial attack, but the distraction of looking at the flatulent student's handiwork cost him the chance to properly react when the ground around him suddenly pulsed due to Rathma's efforts. He suddenly felt himself flying towards the stands, his arms beating the air wildly to slow him down enough to at least land gracefully.

Whatever effort Rufus used seemed to have worked, as he landed at the very edge of the barrier for the stands, balancing on both feet as he slowly turned around to face Rathma. And then, for some reason, a gust of wind and sudden destabilization of the thin barrier support that he stood on left him falling backwards. Into the stands. Oh, right, those damn after shocks. He had put enough effort into this, why did I forget that? thought Rufus as he fell.

He picked himself up, hopped the barrier, and took two steps in the air as he descended to the floor of the arena. "Nice touch with the floor attack," he said to the other professor as he approached. "Listen, I've got class right after yours, and I still don't know where it is yet, since I kind of just arrived, but after today I've got the period free if you need somebody for the demonstrations and practical exams."

When duels happen, it'll be during the game Save the Hostage and to make things more interesting, Villians will be required to play as Heroes and Heroes will be required to play Villians. This is because some times you need to understand the other side in order to beat the living day lights out of them. Now, I want the class to divide into half. One side will be playing as the Villians and the other as Heroes. The roles will change from time to time. "Oh, would you mind reminding your students that my class on diplomatic theory is right after this. I didn't get a chance to check to see if all of my courses are posted. Gotta love administrative issues."

Rufus departed the training room and headed back towards the lobby, taking a turn at a hallway as indicated on the directions that he had. He found a set of classrooms that had so far been unused, and decided to appropriate them for his use. After updating the sign and the central databanks for the campus network, he set off to find his rooms, noting that the elders had kindly given him a nifty spot in the clock tower, complete with a nice view of the complex. It was strange, but Rufus had an unusual interest in clocks and maps, even though they never had much long term use for him.

He paused, deciding to use the computer terminal for some background information on his potential students and fellow teachers. He needed to know who was available for fun projects, who would be better off outside the room, and who should be notified to stay across campus when the interesting stuff got started.

"Boss, ya gonna let 'im get away wit' dat?"

"Of course. He's useful...for now."

As he made his way to his seat, The Sphincter once again allowed himself to revel in the feeling of the specially-tanned leather that made up his costume. They had, of course, taken it away, and, without it, he could not fly nearly as easily. The trench coat was designed to flare when pressure was applied in certain ways, acting like the nozzle in a rocket engine. This was one of many small points of scientific technicality that were lost on his lackeys--but, then, that was why they were his. They were stupid--and could be controlled.

And as the two instructors' little show of overblown machismo--one of them called the other 'Rufus,' so he learned one name--came to an end, The Sphincter was told that he was going to be participating in a little exercise, and of an upcoming class that he thought might be of some interest to him, especially given the way that the villains' dorms were run.

Naturally, when he went into the line-up, he chose the side of the Heroes. Always best to confuse the opposition as much as possible.

Lucus took the students off and shook Clytus Sareau hand as he looked down. "That's true. I'm going to play as a villian for a change," finished Lucus as he went to the villian side and found himself alone.

Sareau looked over-surely this class wouldn't be all villains? Of course, there were several villains for each hero-the ratio would hardly change here. Still, it would be unfortunate for them all to face one single "villain". Perhaps he should switch sides, just to level things out...

Rufus rather disliked the first-time access protocols. Still, in just a few minutes he was through the process and was navigating the class schedules.

"Let's see. My course on diplomatic relations is on the schedule, so that add-in worked. Professor Phoenix has the powers training class, Professor Davis has the philosophical groundings of one's actions, and Professor Gopher has the lessons on what to do when a student's powers fail. Useful, actually. Let's see if there's anything else...wait, Whately. Undead lich, known skills in wizardry, leadership and group dynamic work. I'll have to talk to him at some point."

Rufus sat back in the chair, staring up at the gears of the clock's main mechanism. He did admire the rather quiet operation of the whole thing, and nearly lost himself staring absently at the simple rotation of the gears. Sitting up, he started going through the archived data, searching out cataloged information on things of the magical and supernatural persuasion, including the notable absence of classes on the issue. He'd have to talk to Whately now.

He logged off, setting off back towards the front desk, and the receptionist that had greeted him. "Hello. Would mind taking a message for Professor Whately? I need to speak with him about class scheduling and a potential class on magecraft. Thank you for helping."

He turned, and headed to see if he could catch the end of the philosophy class. One thing never changed, thinking on existence had a tendency to make people doubt themselves right out of existence.

Whatley was watching the students leave the Philosophy class-the teacher was a telepath, and he tended not to trust them, but in the interests of professional courtesy, he felt he owed her a small social call to offset his avoiding her in the future.
His massive frame was hardly unobtrusive, but he noted another member of the faculty headed for the classroom-what was his name?-"Mr. Lannagan? I believe you wished to speak with me on some matter?"
The hand offered up by the giant was strong and cold, like marble, with a faint charnel odor.

Rufus turned to see Whately approaching him, offering his hand and the recognition of Rufus's desire to speak to him. "Yes, Professor Whately, I must say I am impressed with how fast you reached me. I just left a note at the main desk. And please, call me Rufus." He shook hands firmly, then turned to see the students filing out of philosophy. "A shame, I had hoped to see the end of that. Still, might as well take the chance to meet the professor."

Rufus somehow managed to find a way to walk next to his large colleague as they went to see Davis. "I wanted to ask you, since there isn't any current class on magic, do you care to see about setting one up with me? I know your leadership and teamwork class will be important, but you have the best background on areas of magical expertise that I tend not to bother myself with."

"Europe was controlled by the shadowy society of mages, back then-but the Nazis corralled all that power, kept it in their control-that nonsense in the Antarctic was everything they'd debunked or tapped dry.
"If someone else held those items, you would find a sudden spike in the magicians extant. They are held now, in some dark place, and only those fully indoctrinated may gaze upon them.
"Given the few magi even in that glorious time prior to World War II, the lack of their power is hardly surprising-all we have is a few books, the two relics that survive..." Whately shook his massive head. "No, until that vault is found and given back to the world, magic is a thing of the past."

"The students are going to take part in a team duel but it seems they are taking too long," replied Rathma as he sat down and started to meditate. "Therefore, the match will being,"

Rathma sat down quietly as he looked at the students who were still taking too long to do anything. He looked around and closed his eyes as he found a suitable battle for the students to be involved in. The students suddenly found themselves looking along a sandy beach with...barricades like they were meant for something. Lucus looked up as he noticed a number of bunkers lined up across the ridge and wire across a fronter. He turned to look out to sea to find a number of Higgns Boat flooding towards the beach.

"Welcome to D-Day, Gold Beach, France, 6th of June 1944," stated the spirit as muzzle flash could be seen from the big battleships as shells landed all across the beach from both directions. "The shells, the bullets and the men can't harm you. Remember, don't kill each other and avoid serious wounds,"

Lucus looked about and used his hand to pull the sand towards him. He looked at the other side and noticed how they were still getting used to the location. Lucus pulled himself together as shells landed around them and the Higgns Boats landed as the Allied Forces streamed across the beach. Lucus pulled up his hands as the sand started to take hold of the other team before he sent a wave of sand towards them.

Well, that's going to make identifying the hostage and the grinder interesting Sareau thought, wondering exactly how Lucus would do these same tasks.
The words of his grandfather came to him:The great strength of the Hero is his capacity for Self-sacrifice. It is also his greatest weakness, for they will die rather than suffer that fate on another. Such selflessness allows them to perform mighty tasks, but it also endangers them unneccessarily.

"I could use some help!" shouted out someone from behind Lucus.

Lucus turned around and noticed a burnt out tank after being hit by a shell and instead of a turret, it had a ladder that soldiers could use to use against the bunkers. As he looked over the tank, he noticed that the belts and grinders used to find mines was still in work. Lucus looked back up at the hostage and noticed it was a high ranking officer of some kind had his legs strapped in chains and he was slowly falling into the grinder. The tank was still burning as the flames exploded in the full tank causing the rear of the tank to explode. Sharpnel flew in all directions as several squads of soldiers fell to the sharpnel. It didn't matter what the happened to the soldiers. His objective was to take out the general and throw him into the grinder.

"There's the objective," started Lucus as he sent a wave of sand so he had some time to dash across and cut the chains. If he could cut the chains, the mission would be over if he could cut the chains and let the general fall.

Sareau saw Lucus in a sprint, and smiled. The situation was pretty straightforward-he sprinted as well-better to save his powers for when he needed them-but moved to intercept Lucus, deciding the best bet would be to stymie the opposition.
Besides, it would move them closer to the hostage, and Sareau was ready to warp space and let the general fall to safety in the event Lucus couldn't be stopped...

He watched the students begin to orient themselves, especially the sand manipulator. "Hey, here's a pun for you. That sand user there is really in his element. Rathma, you said you don't want them killing or permanently injuring each other. Are we talking broken bones, or merely sprains and maybe dislocations?"

As for villians, to teach them the beauty of grace and peace...you could say that it is mutually beneficial to have them both switch."

He teleported to the general and began untangling him. What would a hero do in this situation? Ah, yes..."Don't struggle too much, Sir-we'll have you to safety in no time."
He kept one eye on Lucus-the energy projection could fuse his substance to glass, and the boy seemed pleasant. If he got too close, Sareau would send him away, but best to let the other deal with it-too many participants could result in injury, and it wouldn't do for that to happen...

Lucus suddenly realise he was badly out-numbered. He looked around as the others easily over took him and he realised he was going to lose the match quickly.

"Professor Phoenix, does the hostage need to fall into the grinder?" shouted Lucus as a shell landed nearby causing him to jump.

"You can make him fall into the grinder as long as the hostage die in order for the villians to gain victory. Heroes, disable the villians or hold out for 15 minutes," stated the spirit as it darted about. "There's one thing I've forgotten students," shouted the spirit. "In these illusions, there are heroes and villians that fought in the battles and the wars you will take part in. Be warn: thier powers will effect you should you get in their way,"

Lucus was suddenly thorwn aside by a lightning bolt that he didn't see in time as he flew across the beach. He staggered up as he shaked his head from sand as his vision was blurred from the attack as he shaked his head. Lucus looked around as he realised there was a high chance he was going to lose the match but he wasn't going to give up so easily. Lucus quietly sat down and did some meditation for a moment. He was trying to remember the lesson he had with the professor earlier. Lucus cleared his mind as he focused on the objective of killing the hostage. His mind started to clear as he flowed the sand to form a small cyclone around him to shield him from attacks.

'Clear your mind and focus yourself on this one attack,' he thought to himself as he came up with a plan.

Lucus increased the speed of the cyclone as he turned it into a powerful sand hurricane and whipped it across towards the heroes. He had taken a mental note of what the professor did with the other professor. Lucus had a simple plan of unleshing the sand hurricane at the heroes to distract him while he sent his true attack. The hurricane was coming dangerous close to the heroes and the tank (OOC: I presume the heroes are at the tank) and the hurricane was whipped sand past the heroes. Lucus was focusing too much power on the hurricane as he lowered its strenght for a moment before getting up. He sprinted across the sand as he came within view of the tank and punched the air towards it as a purplish blade smashed into the turret of the tank causing the chain to go from side to side widly. It didn't lower the chain but it had caused the chain to go back and forward like a swing. Except, the punch had caused the hostage to be thrown towards the hurricane that was coming closer and the chain had slipped slightly causing the officer to come down gently.

"Ahh!" shouted out the hostage. "I could use some help!" he shouted as the sand hurricane was coming towards him slightly as another purplish blade came flying towards the turret.

By now, Rathma had appeared on the scene as he watched the battle for a moment. He was wearing his black cloak, black cargo pants and he had his mouth guard over his mouth due to the small sand hurricane which was about 10 maybe 14 metres high. Professor Phoniex only appeared because he was slightly worried about if someone was going to get seriously wounded as Rufus question came to him.

"I'm giving them a warm up before we go further," replied Rathma. "I use my memories as part of the illusions and I do hope I can show you more later.

Mathieu scanned the scene, his eyes widening at the sand cyclone. He then remembered the time in the desert...the sandstorm.

An orb of bluish energy enveloped him as Mathieu rocketed forward, heading straight for the cyclone. He was a bit scared, he had only done this once, and then, never for this reason. Sparks and lightning archs used to pass over his body, and he knew it was close to coming undone. But he pushed forward, landing between the tank and the cyclone. Mathieu built the orb into a solid wall, trying to block its path to the tank. More archs passed over him, and he knew he couldn't hold it any longer. The shield fluctuated, like a sun about to nova. With a loud 'whumph' the shield collapsed in a wave of energy that destroyed the cyclone and shot Mathieu backward.

"Oh, really." Sareau wove space, directing the sand into a whirling shield about him and the "hostage" as he strived to release the general from his entanglement.
"Let's get you out of this, Sir-by the time he realises he's effectively cut himself off with that, he's going to try a new tack-except this time, he'll be pissed. Best to have you out of harm's way by then."
The addition of new obstacles, one who could interfere or harm the students was a wrinkle, but one which would be expected if this was a real battlefield, so it was another consideration.
Beneath his mask, his brow furrowed-many of the ubermensch died in the Battle of Berlin, and Hitler's favorites remained in Berlin throughout much of the war as assassination attempts mounted. The woman Blitz-a speedster-supposedly killed the French Resistance's le Reynard Rouge during this battle, but exact records on the locations of various Empowered operatives was still classified, thanks to that damned dictator with the time machine- but the events where they died tended to make the papers.
There were far too many of them, and the period too distant. Roosevelt had drafted almost all into that "Justice Battalion", and kept their movements close to the vest-most were personally ordered by the President.
Few of the Empowered in this era did not take sides-even Sareau's grandfather had claimed, "I am a murderer, a thief, and a criminal-but I am an AMERICAN murderer, thief, and criminal."
Of course, Papau had slipped in and out of Europe competing with the Thule Gesellschaft long before America entered the War...

Lucus was suddenly thrown backwards across the beach as he staggered up still a bit dizzy. He watched helplessly as the Hero Team managed to save the hostage. He didn't felt disappointed in himself but he felt he did his best and he only needed to try harder next time. The illusion faded as the students found themselves back in the arena again.

"Congulations both side for their attempts to complete their objective," congulated Rathma as he looked around at the students. "You all tried your best even though the Villian Team was outnumbered. I'm going to let you catch your breath and have a drink of water before we go into the next illusion. The next illusion is going to be the whole class taking part in an illusion on one team. Some times in the world, both sides will need to team up to conquer the other enemy. I'll let you have five minutes rest while I find a suitable target. In the mean time, I suggest you catch your breath and get to know each other. Because in this battle, the soldiers involved will be able to harm you," finished Rathma as he sat down to meditate and find a suitable illusion for the class.

Any of the room's occupants who had looked out the door at that moment would have noticed a helmeted head looking in, and had they been able to see through the visor, they would've seen the face of a blushing, embarrassed teenage girl with the blood of an alien race in her veins.

She quietly opened the door, slipping in, but misjudged the amount of energy she would require to close it. Sliding easily into place, a loud THUD issued from the frame, and she cringed. The eyes all slid onto her like she had a spotlight illuminating her.

"Sorry I'm late," she whispered almost inaudibly. This was all she needed, to get kicked out of the school and be denied Guardianship.

THUD came the sound as Professor Phoniex looked up from his meditation at the armoured suit trying to silently enter the room. He sighed quietly as he looked at the other students before turning to the student already arriving.

"Correction student," replied Rathma as he looked at the student. "Your a bit early for the second period and that doesn't matter at the time. I'm Professor Phoenix and you have came at the right moment. We'll be starting another simulation in a few moments and because you didn't take part in the first illusion, your going to have to stay behind and take part in one by yourself," contiuned a slightly but not obvious angered professor. "The whole class is going to hunt down a boss in the next simulations. The reason being, I found it nearly impossible to take it done by myself. I'm going to give everyone a word of warning. "This is a class team exercise," explained Rathma as he prepared to meditate. "In major battles around the world, there's going to be a day when both heroes and villians will require to team up against the one that will extinct them all," explained Rathma as he vanished as the illusion happened.

The students found themselves on the edge of a forest over looking a plain of hills. Lucus peered around and noticed the other students as he realised everyone was on the one side. But what was the target. Lucus turned back to the plains as he ready himself before a massive mammoth of some kind came charging towards him. He was partly in shock as he panic slightly before he stepped back a bit. Lucus watched as someone pushed him aside as the figure came up the towering mammoth and smashed through the mammoth in two goes.

'Is that...the Professor?' thought Lucus to himself as he noticed the man taking down mammoth with a bow and a sword was in fact Professor Phoenix.

"Where the hell have you being?" shouted the figure now known as Rathma.

"Sorry we're late," replied a voice as a column of walkers pass by them with infantry. "The Hawks were giving us trouble,"

"Longshanks, take the walkers and flank left while the infantry brings up the centre. We'll engage the Mammoth Column about half a k from here but we need to keep an eye out for the Fungi Master..." contiuned Rathma as the illusion suddenly froze still as the spirit darted above the students.

"This is the last day of the Fungi war between Vamperial Forces and Fungi Forces. The man you saw taking down the mammoth with a bow and a sword is Professor Phoenix, however, he won't recongise you because this is the past. The plains are fairly opened and your target is over there," the spirit pointed to a two story house that was being used by the Fungi. "I should warn you that the Fungi and the Vamperial Forces are going to see you and injuries can be inflected. Vamperial Forces will not fire on you unless you engage them. They'll take out the mammoths while you go after the Fungi Master," contiuned the Spirit. "Remember the class is one team. Taking the Fungi Master on by yourself is suicidal and you will be seriously injuried. Rathma, the one you see on the battlefield, will be going with you to the Fungi Master and he'll take on the guards while you kill the Fungi Master. Any questions, please say so now or the exercise will begin," finished the Spirit.

Lucus looked around as the towering walkers pass by them as the one on the battlefield known as Rathma sprinted for the two storey house that the students were informed to assault. The mammoths were about 2 feet taller than the walkers and the infantry were weilding assault rifles.

"We should follow Rathma if we're to take out the Fungi Master and we need to do this as a team," said Lucus as he looked at the others.

"We should let the walkers engage the mammoths," suggested Lucus as he felt slightly nervous.

"The illusion has being stated to inflect only minor injuries since its a first time at this sort of exercise," replied the spirit to Mathieu. "Professor Phoenix can make the settings cause no injuries, minor injuries, serious injuries or deaths. Since you're new to the illusions he'll only go as far as minor injuries unless the entire class wants to go higher,"

"Feel free," she said distractedly. She addressed the rest of the class. "This variant of the suit has no external projection, but I can show you with this." Sighing, answering the question she posed in her mind, she recited the answer most likely expected. "All beings in the Galaxy who have super-specie abilities are to register with the Galactic Federation, and agree to serve the Federation however it may require unless another arrangement is made. Those who refuse to identify themselves are classified as potential threats -- in colloquial terms, a 'supervillain'. Is that good enough?" she ended shortly.

Mathieu looked over at Min. For the first time in a long while, someone had impressed him.

"Deputization is important only from a public image standpoint." Sareau answered. "Quite frankly, it's easier-and gives one more latitude-to establish oneself as a bail enforcement officer."

Rufus listened to the answer from Nin, nodding slightly. "Correct in the fundamentals, which makes this a perfect starting point. The terms of hero and villain derive part of their differentiation from the ethical and philosophical standpoint, so I'm using the lazy excuse and letting that matter stay in Professor Davis's class. However, legal status is a major factor in how you will be perceived, and how your dealings with others will go."

"As stated, different jurisdictions will require those with enhanced abilities to register or face legal sanction. Deputization essentially entails full enlistment with the proper local authority, or authorities, to perform police actions. Now, this is not universal, but still important. Obviously, you future criminals won't be expected to comply with such sanctions, and I doubt very much that anybody that adopts the vigilante way of life will comply as well. Heroes, well, as Sareau has effectively stated, that gets left up to where you'll live and primarily operate, particularly on how the police forces are set up."

Rufus went to the next image, that of a metahuman speaking at court proceedings. "Tell me, why does the hero need deputization to be more effective?"

"That depends largely on jurisdiction-in the US, for example, the accused has the right to face his accusers, which was used by the Owl to nearly force his nemesis to unmask in order to testify.
"Without the verification of identity that deputization allows, a masked man cannot have his testimony entered into record. If I were to witness a crime, I would have to take this-" he indicated the full face mask he wore "- off to have my testimony entered into record, at least in the US court system.
"Many jurisdictions require an individual register as costumed identity, and by the verification of identity allowed by deputization, this requirement may be bypassed, protecting the family and loved ones of costumed heroes."

Rufus smiled as he heard the response. "Excellent. Now, why would deputizing a person lessen the effectiveness of a person? Or better yet, let's take one of the definitions of the distinction between the superhero and the vigilante. Why would a person, otherwise operating as a hero, remain a vigilante, and risk government opposition? Keep in mind, we're not going to be questioning the legitimacy or other practices of our hypothetical government."

Lucus was seated in the back of the class as he listened to the conversation of the students. The one that really made him feel uncomfortable was the speech given by Min because it made him feel like a villian. He sat back quietly as he listened to the conversations. He was finally feeling comfortable as he gave his answer.

"Vigilantes are always going to be chase by governments because they don't run by laws which is easier to do because you don't have to follow the rules of the government. That can disadvantage the hero," replied Lucus.

"By becoming a deputy, one accepts the jurisdiction's rules and regulations regarding officers of the law. One reason why becoming a bail enforcement agent is preferable-as agents of the court, they may bypass many of the stricter regulations on police." Sareau answered. "However, deputization can be considered a legitimising of a hero's career, and certainly lends itself to good press. If one wishes one's life's work reduced to a sound bite, of course."

"Vigilantism brings a sense of freedom to the hero in question," Min said quickly, flustered that the chance to answer first had been lost. "It gives them the 'liberty' to operate as they see fit. This is a benefit to both the people they serve and themselves. To those who they protect or serve, it will often give an image of independence that appeals to younger generations, casting them as a sort of 'anti-hero'. For them, the lack of pressure or assignments will sometimes positively affect their performance -- stress is often quite a foe to most heroes. Having lives depending on your success or failure can cause an ulcer in plenty of people."

"Well, look at the Bat." Sareau replied. "When he started his career, his city was literally run by organised crime-the City Council Chairman was also head of the powerful crime families.
"Through his vigilante actions, he has shown the people that the powerful criminal element could be beaten-and the societal forces that operate so glacially slow have cleaned up that city to an extent-though it's still corrupt as hell, you are fairly safe on the streets, and the police and district attourney's offices are no longer compromised.
"Of course, for all he's done for his city-and he is the most effective crimefighter in the business-he's largely regarded as a vigilante, and has been declared outlaw on numerous occasions.
"The people of his city regard each such declaration as proof of the corruption of City Hall, and aid and abet him constantly.
"Of course, he is an exception in exceptional circumstances-his city's government is almost entirely staffed by 'legitimate businessmen' to this day, though their power is not what it was."

RING!!

"Darn it," muttered the spirit as the illusion suddenly stopped and the students found themselves back in the arena.

"Sorry students but class has ended quicker than expected," stated Rathma as the students looked a bit dizzy. "We'll be picking up from where we left next time which is tomorrow afternoon. Everyone should get to know each other briefly and know their own powers as homework. I also want people to practice their powers. Professor Rufus has the next class. However, I haven't forgotten Min and she'll be required to return to the arena after Rufus class to take part in an illusion. Everyone needs to go through each illusion in order to gain the examination entry level," finished Rathma.

Kash answered " I still need to go through the examination, I kind of got here late" He said.

"The examination isn't until the end of 6 months," replied Professor Phoenix. "Have you taken part in the first simulation? You need to take part in all simulations in order to be part of the all in exam simulation," finished Professor Phoenix.

He tried. All he could do was get it to put out a little puff of smoke.

He hated power dampers. He didn't need to practice his powers, either. He knew how to use them. In fact, they were the only thing that he could trust when the chips were down.

Still, it wasn't as if he was in the dorms again. He wasn't in any immediate danger--and the fools around him actually thought that they had time to devote conversation to things like law and order. Law and order! Hah! They should see what good the law does them when three prison guards with clubs are standing over them and they have to defend themselves by whatever means necessary! Try that law and order!

Still, he ventured into the conversation. "All sounds like a bunch of claptrap to me. The REAL issue is how you're going to get through the day. If some bunch of totalitarian thugs makes you register with them or else, what kind of law are they trying to peddle on you? Are they going to train you to goose step with the rest of the 'registered few' while they're at it? And this Bat of yours, I've heard of him. He's strictly small town. Sticks to one city, and works alone. Even if he is the top of the heap, one day, he'll slip up, and then what happens...to his city? How does he get through his day knowing that everything that he's doing is doomed to fall to dust?"

OOC:

My character is a villain. I apologize for his confrontational attitude, but, as a villain, he's arrogant, narcissistic and confrontational. I'll try to keep him in line, but you know how these characters can be. ;)

And remember: no matter how much contempt The Sphincter may express, I deeply respect you all--you've got writing skills in advance of 90% of the world, and that has to count for something.

"You're going to go through the simulation today," replied Professor Phoenix as he showed the student into the smaller arena. "I won't be available for the rest of the day and I perfer we get it over and done with today. Either that or you take part in four simulations tomorrow,"

"You don't need to regisiter with the so called 'Federation'," started Lucus. "All the Lynion Heroes have never enlisted with the 'Federation' because they fought for the kingdom. You don't need to be enlisted in order to be a hero. If it applied, then it would be completely pointless because why do heroes need to register? Does that make me a villian because I haven't register to the 'Federation'?" finished Lucus.

"You'll be siding with Union Rebels in 2005 during the early stages of the Union Rebellion in the Vamperial Colony of Union," started Professor Phoenix as he started to meditate. "You'll be siding with three Rebels that intend to ambush a convoy of Vamperial Forces. Both sides will be weilding swords as the automatic weapons had already arrived at the point the convoy is going to. You'll see me at the top and when you have control of yourself destroy the convoy," finished Phoenix. "Do you understand the objective?"
