Hmm... I wonder if I could stir up some stuff between Sharina and Norleans to make E-V more exciting.

For example, what if Sharina secretly funds several factions within Norleans- the female Don, Lady Firebrand, and the dons in South America. Then see if Sharina can't try to capitalize in South America.

What do you think, Norelans? We can do something different if you'd like, perhaps in the Middle East or something else altogether. I'm open to ideas, but I thought we might need some Sharina + Norleans thing going on just to spice stuff up somewhat.

Just north of New Orleans, at Blackwood Farm, in the Manor House, a tele-conference was underway. Lady Firebhrand Long, Duchess of Norleans, had, within the past hour, learned that her husband, Duke Huey P. Long III - the undisputed ruler of Norleans - been assasinated. The press had not yet broadcast the news, but it was only a matter of time - time that was growing shorter by the minute. Upon learning of the assassination, Lady Firebhrand had contacted and set up the teleconference with those Dons whom she knew supported the Duke's vision of Norleans and the role of the families in Norleans "shadow" government. Specifically, Don Kathleen "Kat" Prizzi of South Dakota, the Hendersons family of Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa and the Contrina Family of Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama. It was also probable that Don Delacourte of Tennessee would support her, but since he and his wife had been injured in the assassination of Huey, they could not participate in the conversation. There was no doubt in Lady Firebhrand's mind who had engineered the assassination, it had to be one of the DaVinci family members, likely Don Giavani himself. Out spoken in the family council in his opposition to the war in Iran and a potential threat to the Duke's control of the families well before that war, he was the logical suspect - as he had been years ago before "The Settlement" that Duke Long had arranged after the assassination of Kathleen's husband, Jack Prizzi. "The Settlement" was an informal agreement between the families that had prevented gang warfare for 17+ years now - a status that was now in serious jeopardy. Who would side with the DaVincis was not known for sure to Lady Firebhrand, but she knew she needed to act fast to get those who would certainly side with her united.

The government and makeup of Norleans had changed and evolved since the time of "the settlement" and the nation had settled into a constitutional monarchy of sorts. The national government had 3 branches, legislative, judicial and executive, as had the old United States that had given birth to Norleans after it's collapse in the 1970's. A significant difference though was that the executive branch had solidified around a monarchy - a monarchy whose control had been solidified by Duke Long in 1997. There was a national legislature consisting of 2 bodies, the House of Commoners and the Senate who passed laws and provided representation much the same way as the old U.S. Congress had done and the Judiciary consisted of a Supreme Court and an appellate court for each state and several trial courts in each state. A major difference in the judiciary was that the monarch (i.e. Duke Long until his death) could veto a decision of the Supreme Court that found a law to be unconstitutional and if the veto was supported by a 2/3 majority vote in both houses of the legislature, the decision of the Supreme Court was rendered a nullity. Each state also had it's own government, though the form of government varied from state-to-state. For example, Oklahoma and Georgia had state governments that were almost identical to the way they had been prior to the collapse of the U.S. South Carolina, on the other hand, had a state "monarchy" run by a "Lord" that more closely resemembled feudal Britain than it did the former U.S. All state governments though, no matter the form they took, had sworn allegiance to the nation of Norleans and were subject to the national constitution and legislature when it came to things such as civil rights, the military and interstate commerce.

The interesting thing about Norleans, though, was the "shadow government" run by the Syndicated Families as they called themselves - in early days in the United States, the families would have been known as "The Mafia" or "La Cosa Nostra" These were the "Goodfellas," Gangsters, mobsters and "made" men of Norleans, and Duke Long had been their leader for 17+ years. Under the terms of "the settlement" each family had been given certain "industries" and states to "control." A few members of the families were actually involved in politics and political control. For example, one of the families, the Markola family, had a member that served as governor of Georgia. Duke Long was head of the entire national government as well. However, most family members were businessmen who exercised their "control" by weilding their influence over the industry they ran. Few of them were comfortable as public figures and they preferred to remain in the shadows and run things without ever being known. In organizing Norleans' government and economy, Duke Long had seen, and convinced the familes, that more money and power was to be made by making things "normal" for the average citizen of Norleans and maintaining a black market in things such as drugs, gambling, loan sharking, union pensions and control, etc. Legal marijuana, for example, would sell for about $25.00 an ounce with little profit available. Illegal marijuana though, under the control of the families, could sell for over $150 an ounce - making it a profitable business indeed. And that was just one example. Each family had a designated a family "head" or leader to serve as a sort of "executive" council for the families. Don Giavanni DaVinci was the head of the DaVinci family and it was he who Lady Long (rightly as it would turn out) feared had killed her husband. Duke Long, as head of the Long family and the ruler of Norleans, was "the Godfather" of all the families, but with his death, things could easily change for the worse - it was this that Lady Firebhrand Long feared. Without an acknowledged leader the families might splinter into warring gangs and without the Duke, the nation itself could unravel. The one thing Lady Long was glad about was that the Duke had maintained Norleans' foreign territories as crown properties and he had been the Don of those territories. While all the families operated in those territories to one extent or another, they had remained firmly under the Duke's control. Therefore, there was no Don of Peru, Uraguay, Aruba, the Virgin Islands or Yemen to deal with. Don DaVinci did control the territory of Scotland - but his control was tennuous and premised on his control of the state owned oil company, NOOGEES (Norleans Offshore Oil & Gas Exploration & Extraction Systems, Inc.) and their operations in the North Sea oil fields.

As the Lady Firebhrand waited to get everyone on the line, she looked down the list of family members and heads of family she had prepared. Who else could she count on she thought to herself. She would certainly have to contact president Mina Versitek in Sharina, her husband had also been assassinated and she would likely sympathize for Lady Long's situation. Having Sharina's backing might prove to be invaluable if things took a serious turn for the worse.

OOC: For informational purposes here is the list - obviously, IC'ly you don't know most of the above or below information. Obviously, if the families are a "shadow government" in Norleans proper, they certainly wouldn't have revealed their existence to you. You only know who you do business with from Norleans in the various industries represented.

1. Don Giaviani Markola - "The Entertainment Don" was a rotund balding man of 53 years of age, Mr. Markola, as he was known to most people in his home state of Florida, controlled the film and entertainment industries of Norleans from his offices in Orlando. Few movies or television shows were made, distributed or broadcast in Norleans without his express or tacit approval. Hiring an actor or director or television personality that wasn't on the Florida Actors' Guild (FAG) list of members was potentially a dangerous gamble for anyone. He knew exactly what people wanted; they wanted what his commercials and films told them they wanted. They liked what his shows told them they liked. They emulated the people his movies and shows told them should be emulated. Don Markola was head of the Markola family.

2. Don Ronaldo Marks - "Count Marks" or "Governor Marks" to his citizens, was the Cousin of Don Markola and a muscular, stocky man of 55 with thick black hair and dark brown, almost black eyes. He ran Georgia with an Iron Fist as their Governor. A political genius, he was serving his sixth 4 year term as the elected Governor of Georgia, having run in the last 3 elections completely unopposed (well, he had oppostion initially in one of those elections, but his opponent had been killed in a sudden and tragic auto accident).

3. Don Sufiana Contrina - "General Contrina" to most, was a 53 year old, strong, muscular and tall General in the Norleans Navy. Based in Mobile Alabama, Don Contrina was head of the Contrina family and had complete power over naval procurement contracts. Norleans' navy didn't buy toilet paper for a patrol boat without his approval. Don Contrina was also a genuine war hero having lost one eye during the invasion of St. Croix several years ago when he had be serving as an XO on one of Norleans' carriers. He was generally well respected by all the families because of this. His military commander demeanor though, sometimes rubbed other families or their people the wrong way. He was head of the Contrina family.

4. Don Billy-Joe McCallister (formerly, McCalliestri, he had changed his name at age 20 so as to "fit in" better with his peers in college) - "Billy-Joe" to most, was a rather congenial and friendly man of 5' 11". He had leathery tanned, "smokers" skin and was the brother-in-law of Don Contrina and considered a part of the Contrina family. Billy-Joe was 45 and had served for several years as a pilot on the Mississippi River. From his home in Natchez, Mississippi in Ravenaside Manor, he controlled all trade on the Mississippi River with the blessings of Duke Long himself. If it was a boat on the River, or a dock on the River, Don McCallister controlled it's crew and shoremen. It didn't ship if he didn't give the go ahead and it didn't get unloaded if he didn't say it was ok to do so.

5. Don Giavani DaVinci - "G" or "Mr. G" was what he was called by most. "G" was a wirey built, redneck texan, despite his name and heritage. He was the 3rd wealthiest of the Dons. Raised in Tulia, Texas, just south of Amarillo, "G" had a inbred mistrust of all things not Texan. He liked beef and bar-b-que, not pasta and drank beer, not wine. He was 48 and ran the families' oil interests from his home in Lubbock. He was the CEO of the Norleans' nationalized oil company, NOOGEES and as such controlled, completely, the flow of oil in Norleans as well as the sale of oil to other nations. He was a good man to have as your friend and a bad man to have as your enemy. It was only his upbringing - a learned respect for your elders, who would beat the hell out of you if you didn't respect them, that kept him from seizing control of all of Norleans. He had liked and respected Duke Long though and knew he was a good man to have as Godfather at the time of the settlement, but times had changed. "G" was head of the DaVinci family.

6. Don Robey Vincents (his grandfather had changed the family name from "Vincentia") - "Rob" is what he was known as by most. Rob loved the hills and mountains of his home in the Arkansas Ozarks. In his conclave on top of Rich Mountain, just outside Mena on the Arkansas/Oklahoma Border, he was content, fat and happy. Due to an affair, that "was not to be discussed at a family gathering under any circumstance" per orders from Duke Long, it turns out he was the 1/2 bother of Don Contrina in Alabama. As a member of the Contrina family, he had his hands in supply and demand as well; he controlled the railroads of Norleans in much the same way that Billy-Joe controlled shipping on the Mississippi river. Goods didn't travel by train in Norleans unless he knew about it.

7. Don Ricardo "Rick" List - Rick was probably the most dangerous person in all the families. At 38 years old, he was also the youngest Don, having achieved his position of power by a time honored, though unspoken as such, method of ascenscion - assasination. Rick ruled in Missouri from his mansion in Hannibal and had frequent dealings with Billy-Joe, though technically, he was a member of the DaVinci family as the result of various marriages. Rick was an enforcer - he and his men were the "police force" for the families. If Don Cortina had trouble with a naval supplier, Rich handled it. If a political opponent was giving Don Marks trouble in Georgia, Rick took care of the matter. Young, strong and handsome, Rick new his time would come later. For now, he was content with his job, a job he did well, very well.

8. Don Donald Henderson - "Don Don" in the family, Mr. Henderson to everyone else. Don had grown up in Kansas and as a small boy had been fascinated by the crop dusters he saw flying over the wheat fields. By age 19 he was an instrument rated pilot and by 24, an accomplished smuggler. He was not a "blooded" member of the families, but he had been accepted into the inner circle because of his skills and his loyalty to his superiors. He could always be trusted to follow through on what he was assigned to do. Don Don ran the families' international smuggling operations. No one tried to take materials into or out of another nation's borders in a clandestine manner without his ok. He was 50 years old and head of the Henderson family.

9. Don Danny Henderson - "Danny boy" to the families. He was well liked by everyone. He had a natural affability about him that made people his friend on their first meeting. He was Don Dons younger brother at age 46 and he was in charge of Nebraska. Because of the treaty with Sharina that Duke Long had seen fit to enter into, his job was unique in the families. He controlled "legitimate" agricultural trade with other nations on the one hand, and "illigitmate" agricultural distribution within Norleans proper. His sandy blonde hair and blue eyes on his 6' 0" tall, well proportioned frame, coupled with his affable nature, made people trust him implicitly. What made him special to the families was, that like Don Don, he could in fact be trusted with their business.

10. Don Lee Machelli - "Lee" to most was a strange one, quiet and thoughtful, shy almost to the point of unaproachability, he was considered by the families' members as either a genius or a loon; it just depended on who you spoke with. However, the Don's knew his real job - He was their source for "unknowable" information - He was the Don of intelligence for the families. He had more eyes and ears than anyone. He could find out anything, about anyone, at any time. He was the Don of Indiana and leader of the Machelli family.

11. Don Franklin Daring - "Frank" was the cousin of Don Machelli and lived "next door" to him as he ran Illinois for the families as a whole and the Machelli family in particular. His area of expertise was labor and employment. He had a law degree but had been disbarred for stealing client funds and had actually spent some time in prision. He was 51 and was the unnamed head of the NCLU (Norleans Consolidated Labor Unions). No union went on strike or threatened Norlean's industry without his blessing and no manufacturer staged a lock out without his retaliation.

12. Don Kathleen "Kat" Prizzi - As a woman, many people resisted the idea that Kat could be a Don in the families, but make no mistake, she had as much power as any of them. Next to Duke Long, she was the wealthiest of all the Dons. As a member of the Long Family, she also enjoyed some protection in her position from the Duke. Kat had become a Don when, prior to "The Settlement" her husband, Jack, had been assassinated (his assasination had in fact been a major factor in the crafting of "The Settlement"). It was assumed, though never discussed except in whispers, that the DaVinci family had carried out the hit. Kat contolled South Dakota and through her mining company, G.O.R.E. (Gold & Ores Research and Extraction), Inc. she contolled Gold, Silver, Aluminum and Uranium production in Norleans.

13. Don Franklin Delacourte - "Frankie" to his friends ran Tennessee from his home in Nashville. He had some say in the Norleans music industy, though not nearly the same pull there as Don Markola had in the film industry in Florida. His main job for the family though revolved around Banking and Investment. He was the 4th richest of the Dons and a member of the Long family. From his investment firm, which had offices in all the states, he managed well over $600 Billion in assests and investments for family members and normal citizens of Norleans, earning fees on every transaction.

14. Don Herbert Manellson - "Just plain Herb" is what he told people to call him. Was one of those people whose charm and wit belied what lay inside - a ruthless and calculating leader. A member of the Markola family, Herb had 2 jobs. By day, he was an upstanding member of the Oklahoma state legislature - and chair of the state senate's taxation and finance committee. By night, he ran the gambling industry for the families. While Don Marks in Georgia understood the power of Government, Don Manellson understood the "business" of government.

15. Don/Duke Huey P. Long, III - "The Duke" was the acknowledged leader of all the Families of Norleans. It was he that had crafted the settlement after the murder of Jack Prizzi that had given each family certain areas of control and influence in Norleans and specific duties and obligations for the families. He was the only person who could approve a new Don for any state. Decendeded from Huey Long, governor of Louisiana in the 1930's, Duke Long and his family had a longstanding and continued tradition of mixing politics with personal power and money. Until the war in Iran he had been generally well liked by the other Dons since he was more than willing to "share the wealth" so to speak with them. He had managed, using the families, to seize full political control of Norleans after the Collapse of the U.S. in the 1970's. He had transformed the nation into a sort of constitutional monarchy/corporation hybrid with himself as the head of the nation's government. He liked the title "Duke" as it had the air of power needed, without the pretentiousness and pompacity that tended to attach itself to the title of "King." He was fully in control of the families and the country and he knew it, and he understood it was a great responsibility, but one that had many "rewards."

16. Don Richard Heller – “Dick” to his friends and family. Don Heller was the only Don who had been granted control over 2 states; Virginia and West Virginia. He was a smart business man with an MBA, aged 51 and generally viewed as a person you wanted to be on the good side of. Don Heller had made his fortune in Real Estate. He served, officially, as the under secretary for parks management in the visible government of Norleans. However, his job for the families was related to real estate acquisition, investment and management. If a Don needed a piece of property for any reason from building apartments to mining for gold, they went through Dick Heller to get it. Sometimes they would end up owning the property outright, often though; they ended up as “silent partners” of the titled owner. Don Heller was Kathleen Prizzi’s ½ brother and a member of the Long Family, because of his relationship to Kathleen Prizzi and her company, G.O.R.E., Inc. Don Heller had also managed to obtain control over a sizable portion of the coal mining industry in the Virginias.

17. Don Arthur Clinton – known as A.C. to just about everybody, Don Clinton ran Iowa with gentle touch. He was a distant cousin of the Henderson brothers and had been elevated to Don of Iowa with their help. He had a firm control over Norlean’s Agri-chemical and pharmaceutical business. As CEO of I-Meth, inc. (a corporation that got it’s start by making fuel grade methanol from Iowa grown corn, but had since expanded into other areas of agricultural, chemical & pharmacutical manufacturing) he had an important position in the nation’s economy. He had a Ph.D. in bio-chemistry and a bachelors degree in Botany and was the “go to guy” for all kinds of issues related to chemical production and manufacture in Norleans. For the families, one of his most important jobs was the manufacture of drugs such as LSD, Ecstasy, Heroin, Cocaine, etc.

18. Don Renaldo Harera - A balding, 58 year old man of the "old school," Don Harera ran North Carolina for the families. A member of the DaVinci family, he had no particular skill or training, but was instead a man to be counted on when stability was threatened in Norleans. He had served in the Army, but been washed out after about 5 years. He was an enforcer, pure and simple, who took his marching orders from whomever was in charge. He ran an "empire" of auto-salvage yards as a cover for his real business. Outside the families, few people really knew or cared who he was. In the families he could be counted on to handle the "dirty" jobs when the need arose.

19. Don Hersch Kellog - A fat, 46 year old, 2 pack a day smoker with a full head of graying hair, Don Kellog looked like a college professor and he did in fact count "adjunct facutly: Univerity of Michigan" as one of his titles. Don Kellog was a mechanical engineer. More importantly though, he was head of the Kellog family which controlled Michigan, Minnesota and Kentucky. He had a masters degree in Mechanical Engineering and ran a consulting firm. More importantly, to the families anyway, he handled large construction contracts on a nationwide basis. No one built a bridge or a sky scraper without consulting his firm first.

20. Don Microni Kellog - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kentucky, he did for the judicial system in Kentucky what Don Marks did for the Executive Branch in Georgia. He had a J.D. degree from Duke Univerity and an L.L.M. in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas. He had been elected to his position as chief justice 3 times so far. At age 51 he was considered a "shoe in" for the families in Kentucky for the next 20 or more years. He was the brother of Hersh Kellog of Michigan and a member of the Kellog family.

21. Don J.T. Hooker - A decendant of the famous civil war general, Joseph Hooker (who lent his last name to the world's oldest profession), Don Hooker ("Joe" or "J.T." to friends and family), ran the pornography industry of Norleans from his office in Minnessota. Considered one of the most powerful Dons because of his reach into the bedrooms (literally) in every state, Don Hooker basked in the money he was able to bring in and the knowledge that fully 80% of all strip clubs in Norleans funneled money through his organization. You did not become a "famous" centerfold without his blessing. He was the "Hugh Hefner" of 21st Century Norleans and a member (by marriage to the daughter of Microni Kellog) of the Kellog family.

22. Don Ronald Marcosi - An electrician by trade and training, Don Marcosi ran his family the same way a DC power supply ran an engine - he never stopped. He worked closely with Don Hersch Kellog on building projects, but had his finger in other projects as well. He served the families well as a source of information on the middle class and their energy costs and could be counted on to use the electrical codes to the adavantage of family controlled construction companies during new building errections. At 45 with salt and pepper hair, Don Marcosi cut a distinguished figure and had the air of a man imbued with just good, plain, common sense. Don Marcosi was the Don for Ohio.

23. Don Clinton "Clint" Riviere - Don Riviere was Don Marcosi's cousin and a member of the Marcosi family. He was a political fundraiser and strategist by training. He had a degree in Marketing and it served him well as he marketed favored politicians to victory in political races deemed important to the families. He had worked on Don Marks' campaigns in Georgia and with Don Manellson in Oklahoma as well as in other important political campaigns. He was a "mover and a shaker" though his best work was done "behind the scenes." He had a lot of pull with many of the families as he was their bellweather of public sentiment. In the families he was considered the Don of South Carolina.

24. Don Maximus "Maxie" Sims - Don of Wisconsin, Don Maxie (as he preferred to be called) was a Circuit Trial Court Judge. He had the power to decide who won what case. As a general rule, most cases were of no real consequence - the run of the mill divorce, car wreck, drug or theft trial and in such cases he was the height of fairness and judicial integrity. However, on occassion, certain cases caught his eye or that of one of the families. In such a situation, he could be counted on to do the "right" thing and ensure the "proper" party prevailed at trial. He was 55 and had a Law Degree from the University of Wisconsin and an LLM from the SMU school of law in Texas where he had become close with Don DaVinci by doing some work on oil rights in the Gulf of Mexico for NOOGEES. Technically a member of the Marcosi family due to a marriage, it was well known he'd side with Don DaVinci if push ever came to shove.

It was an average cloudy day on Luzon, Corporal Samson Brezhnekov, was just another soldier amongst the team of soldiers assigned to this part of the Phillipine island. He was at the front of the formation as always. When the group suddenly halted in it's track.
As always happened on occasions like this, he was called foward, the downed trees and the cars blocking his group's access. He stepped forward, and while the rest set up a perimeter, proceeded to lift the first of the 5 trees with his hands, hefting it over his shoulder, tossing it over to the left where it landed 40 feet away. Other men, a group of 10 was busy dragging the second tree away when he turned to pick up the third and toss it over to the first one, as if it were a paper airplane. When the five trees had been removed, they had to move the deserted vehicles, which, ironically did not have any fuel in them.
The removal of the vehicles would require everyone's help. So as Samson picked up the end of the deserted Ford Cherokee SUV and proceeded to pull it off to the side of the road, 20 men struggled with another vehicle. Samson moved 3 cars in the time it took them to move the first car. He was about to move the last and 4th car when he glanced in their direction and saw it. The red blinking light catching his attention. He thought it odd, why was their black box with a blinking light under the trunk of the vehicle? Then the thought dawned on him, what if it was a bomb? Nah, it couldn't be he thought. The people here were too poor and ill skilled to make such a perfect looking explosive device. It was probably part of some GPS thing for autos. But then he remembered there were COB members in the area. And they did have the resources and knowledge to make a bomb that looked like a GPS unit. Holy shit he thought.
"Get away from it" he shouted, starting to run toward the men.
Private Gilmore asked "what he say?"
"I don't know" responded Private Kingston.
The men stopped in their tracks and stared at the wild eyed strong man who was screaming something garbled and waiving his arms frantically running toward them. Some of them were thinking that Samson had finally lost his marbles. It would be the last thought they would have in their lives.
Samson had barely to begun shout at the men to get away and run toward them when the explosive went off, throwing even him to the ground with great force. The blast so powerful it tore all 20 men to shreds. They wouldn't be seeing their families again. It also sent heavy debris every which way, which caused the other men in the unit to run from the falling debris. One wan't so lucky. Sgt Montgomery was knocked over and pinned by the engine block, which weighed 450 lbs, which landed on his legs, crushing the crap out of them. He would be a paraplegic for the rest of his life.
Suddenly gunfire erupted from the trees. 35 men went down the commander ordering a fighting retreat. They were able to kill one of the attackers as he got too close. The unit's terrorism expert was able to ID him as a member of the Cult of Barney.
The men were ordered to abandon the pinned Sgt and began run away. Samson shouted that he would catch up them, and dropped to the ground and began to crawl on his belly toward the oncoming insurgents and toward the injured sgt. The bullets hitting the ground around him, some of them grazing his skin. A couple actually hitting home in his foot or his should or legs. But despite the injuries, he continued to crawl.
After what seemed like forever he reached the sgt's position and stood. The oncoming 3 oncoming terrorists in front him stopping dead in their tracks and doing a double take as he reached down and picked up the engine block with one hand, and the injured with his other. They opened fire, but Samson used the engine block to block the rounds. Then lifting the engine in the air above his head, he tossed it in their direction, sending them scrambling.
The next thing he, Samson was the target of every gunner in the woods. He took off running with Sgt Montgomery slung over his left shoulder attempting to dodge the enemy gunfire. They were too close, he instictively dropped to the ground and began to belly crawl out of the danger zone. Once out, he stood again and began jogging to the rally point where his unit waited.

OOC: This event took place before Brezhnekov was assasinated and is intended to be part of the series of posts that will introduce Samson and how he comes to power. This is the first of the flashbacks I was talking about.

The government of General Raul Cedras was desperately trying to locate the reported insurgent army that was on the march to the capital. So far, there were no sightings. Some reports said they were already in Tehran, others said they were Burma. Others said they had not left yet. Still others said Samson was in North America. The General was angry that they could not pin point the rabble rouser. But he allowed himself the luxury of what he knew he would do once he had Samson. Make an example so no one would ever challenge him again.
He was now angry with Vineyard as well. Though Vineyard was having its own problems, Vineyard forces had taken to sticking their nose where it didn't belong. First Vineyard forces had sworn loyalty to the rebels in Susa. Now the Whittier forces on Madagascar had committed treason but getting with the Vineyard elements on the island to form their own nation. Once Samson was squashed, Cedras would make an example of Madagascar and set a warning to all provinces currently in rebellion and to those who would consider it in the future. He would nuke Madagascar, both the Whittier and Vineyardian parts.
He would do what ever it takes to stay in power. Including nuking his nation's population into oblivion just the trifel offense of making bad comments about him. Reporters were now fleeing with their families now that they started seeing their wives abducted by government agents in broad daylight only to be returned after 4 weeks of rape and torture. Or they would return home to find the corpses of their children. The acts were designed to be political intimidation. The people were in despair so no one protested. The tactics of Cedras at cowing the population was working for now....

Flashback 2:

The Philipine Wars

Luzon Island

They had traveled 15 miles into the south of Luzon. They were camped in the village of Wuhaka, population 234. The natives spoke no English, no chinese, no spanish, no french. So the Whittier forces, under orders, seized what they wanted and had their way with the women. Will a couple of them did. The rapes were ordered. But neither were they punished, after all it was war.
Samson was sitting on a rock, eating his ration and drinking some confiscated booze. He watched as three higher ranking soldiers dragged a woman out of her home and away from her elderly parents. The woman had smooth brown skin, big brown eyes. She was short in stature, about 4ft.
"No your place bitch" said one of the soldiers who hit in the back of the head knocking her to the ground.
"Hey, you know who hasn't gotten any yet?" quizzed the 5ft dark haired Sgt. Matterhorn smilingly.
The third looked up with an amused look as they ripped the woman's clothes off. They looked at Samson and began dragging the woman over to him. He looked on with disinterest.
"Hey Samson, look what we found for you. Ain't she a sweet looking thing." said Sgt. Garrick.
Samson looked at the scene before him with disgust. "That is alright. What is her crime?"
Sgt. Garrick "Crime? She hasn't done anything. Except look hot. The commander said we could have anything from the village we wanted. We wanted her but we're willing to share with you. We intend to use her as a sex slave."
Samson, "I am not interested in sharing such things."
Sgt. Garrick, "Fine, that just means more for us." he laughed hideously.
Samson, "Valor, come here a moment."
The scrawny little 10 year old philipino boy came running expecting candy or something. He was tolerated cause he was the only person who knew the villagers language.
Valor "Si' senor".
Samson, "Ask this woman what crime she has committed that she has been brought to me thus."
Valor turned to the woman and spoke in some kind of gibberish.
Sgt. Matterhorn tried to interrupt, "We found these in her house." He holds two boxes of rations that had been pilfered from the supply vehicle. The boxes each held enough for one person."
The woman was speaking but became silent and white when Matterhorn held the stolen rations up.
In Whittier, slavery was legally valid punishment for crime.
Samson, "What does she say to this?"
Valor spoke to the woman in gibberish. Then to Samson, "She says they are for her elderly father and for her child. She begs your forgiveness. Her family has had nothing to eat for the entire week since that your unit came and pilfered the villages' food supply."
Samson, "There is nothing I can do for her. The law is the law."
Matterhorn was very happy upon hearing this. "I get to go first." He and Garrick grabbed the woman by her long dark hair and proceeded to drag her away as Valor was translating what Samson had said.
Samson settled back in and was about to take a nap. But he couldn't sleep cause of the woman's frightened screams as the 3 men (Censored)(censored)(censored) he felt himself yanked off the ground and tossed across the open space like a twig.
"This is not the intent of the law" said Samson.
"Why you..." said Matterhorn, angry that their little fun had been interrupted.
"She stole from us. The bitch is our property." he said. "You saw the evidence."
Samson: "I saw the evidence. But that is not justification for what you are going to do."
Matterhorn: "You should have just gone about your business and stayed out of ours." he lunged with a knife but was caught in mid stride and tossed against a tree, the knife knocked from his hand. The impact rendered him unconscious.
Garrick: "You fool. I can you have whipped for this."
Samson: "Kiss my ass."
The place had gone silent, the other soldiers and the villagers watching the scene in silence at the commotion before them.
Garrick, aware that eyes were on him, backed down grudgingly. "This isn't over." and left with the other soldier, a captain.
The captain: "I'll be reporting this as insubordination. You're in for it. This is going to get you court martialed."
Samson looked at the woman then said "Go"
The woman looked up in surprise and confused. Her punishers had left. Was this one about to do something worse?
Valor translated. She was still confused but not one to waste an opportunity and ran off.

For the next couple days, Samson busied himself digging wells. Without the assistance of the other soldiers who were barred from doing any thing for the villagers.
One day, he was walking and saw a little child playing in the road. Apparently the kid was deaf cause he didn't budge when the Corporal sped around the corner at top speed. With out thinking, Samson jumped between the vehicle and the boy, and with sheer body strength stopped a vehicle that moving at 45 mph. just inches from where the boy was playing.
The corporal, who had his earplugs in and was watching and listening to video toons was pale white after the incident. Regulations required 35 lashings, but Samson used his influence to wittle it down to 5.

A few days later, Samson had recieved a reprimand for his actions. They were getting ready to move south again. The morning of the departure, the villagers showed up and left food and trinkets and weapons at his hut. They were lead by the village cheiftain. He offered Samson his own 13 year old daughter. Samson was confused. Valor who was there, spoke to the cheiftain then said "Your actions have gained you the loyalty of this whole village. They offer you the chieftainship."
Samson: "Tell them I appreciate their intentions, but I cannot accept. I have no interest in these things."
Valor translated. Then the woman from the few days before came forward and spoke to Valor. After she finished, the entire group of villagers picked up the stuff and walked off to their huts.
Valor had an odd look on his. "This is most strange. Senior."
Samson: "What did she say?"
Valor: "She said to tell you, that before you meet your enemies, your qualities and exploits will be known among them."

And so Samson did many great things in Luzon. He made enemies with his commanders, but he made friends with the locals. He didn't care either way, he just wanted to do his own thing. As foretold in the village, his actions were widely reported among the rebels who referred to him as Tajah, which is to say in their native tongue "the great one".

Samson didn't understand the fuss, as far he was concerned he was freak of nature. But he believed in God or something and he knew that that something had made him the way he is for a purpose. But he didn't know really what that something was. Was it really God? Was really genetic engineering? Or was it simple evolution as his dad had opined one time?

Either way, Samson's greatest feat and decision was yet to come.

Lady Firebhrand read the message and sighed. The nation of Norleans was facing chaos. The news that her husband had been assasinated would hit the public airwaves in about 1 hour. There was no doubt in the families that the Don DaVinci was behind the murder, but there was dissension in the families over the war in Arabia. Huey had promised a quick victory, but he had only delivered a stalemate in Iran. The UAE campaign had worked well, but the secretive aid of The Great Sixth Reich to the puppet government of Iran under Cedras II had been a suprise. The world didn't know of the aid, but Norleans did and had worked hard to keep it secret to avoid a world wide conflict - casting their problems as insurgents. That was going to end now. She had support of some of the families, but not all. Kathleen Prizzi was a force to be reckoned with, even by Don DaVinci, she also had the likely support of her neighbor to the west, Mina had not returned the call yet, but Lady Firebhrand couldn't imagine anything less than full support from Mina. However, civil war was a possibility and worse yet, an inter-family war was looming. She sent her reply - a gamble, but one that might pay off and protect her and those around her. It meant cedeing power over Norleans proper to the DaVincis, but it also meant the avoidance of war, civil and shadow.

Karond Kari extreme depth "Kraken" submarinal vessels are now in production. Thus far, ninety of the vessels have been completed, with two hundred and ten more in production. The completed ninety vessels have been dispatched to patrol the naval borders of the Whittierian territory of incoming vessels. These submarines are able to operate safely below scanner depths, but have been equiped with new systems, able to detect surface activity and react to it. Orders given to hail all vessels so that they can submit to search before being fired upon.

There's a new train station in Schenectady, NY.

The old station is not in use, but is still present. It has four tracks that run by it (two on the CSX, adjacent to the platform, and two on the CP).
The tracks are all CWR, (FRA) class 9. Speed limit is 200 mph for all trains equiped with cab signalling, and 79 mph for those without.
All railroad crossings have four-quadrant gates and steel mesh nets.

Sharinan inspectors have affixed their stamp of approval upon the Albany railroad infrastructure. A proposal is made, however.

General Cedras II made one of his pronouncements early this morning over the radio.

I don't have any bases in EurAsia or Western Pacific for planes so my satellites and covert shipping are my "eyes and ears".

Besides, sea vessels or structures the size of Battle Islands would be basically screaming "I'm here!!!" as they're extremely difficult to hide or "stealth" due to their immense size. The same goes for aircraft carriers (can't really hide them like you can hide subs or tiny ships like P-T boats)

Not really. I'm kinda thinking that without Norleans and Mauiwowee, this RP is essentially dead as he was involved in the Middle East, a focus point for Earth V over the past few months.

OOC: In my opinion, we need a new RPer to take Mauiwowee's place. Mauiwowee and Vineyard used to be two huge nations, and that's a lot of now empty territory.

I have no way of getting in touch with Mauiwowee as I haven't seen him online in a long while, and I don't have his e-mail address.

This is a reminder that Earth V nations can take part in NS RPs (void where prohibited). I'll see what I can do to liven it here, but just remember that Earth V holdings are valid in the NS universe, which is one reason to stay on Earth V even when nothing is happing.

Whittier got banned again, I think (possibly for good this time) so Earth V is down yet another member.

As it stands, its looking like Sharina, TGSR, Great Romeo, and maybe Karond Kar and Warta Endor are the only people in Earth V that are still RP'ing and active (Ato-Sara quit Earth V anyway).

2. I have never heard the term "D/N" in the over three years I've been on NS. ;) Is it some type of an IC event? If so, only make a seperate thread if it is likely there'll be a number of replies (creating a seperate thread isn't a very common occurence here). We're a little bit of a strange earth in that we have one long huge IC thread here.

D/N = Diplomacy and News

I just use it for personal references and such - it's more like what people would call a "factbook" or whatever. I just use it for whatever, although most of my RPing goes on the main IC or whatever we use for an international diplomatic channel thingy.

Besides, my D/N is pretty much going to be my NSWiki profile, so it's nothing new if you've already seen it.

Make that two remarks. Here's a list of the very few veteran members:

The Great Sixth Reich (TG6R), sometimes the German translation in official documents (I actually do speak proficient German, along with English, Latin, Spanish, and a little Polish): A very diverse, yet traditional society. There is a very strange four foreign language requirement to receive the Abiturzeugnis required to attend any university in The Great Sixth Reich, and each citizen is de jure required to know German, Latin, Polish, and English, although this is not always de facto. The government is in the form of a monocracy (a very nice way of saying "autocracy"). The leader is Otto von Roding Heinkel.

Great Romeo, sometimes the Serbian translation: A very traditional republic, and very aggressive with a strange Soviet-style military, economy, and transportation system. The "leader" is the Serbian Senate, but there is no real head of state.

Sharina: A very modern technocracy. Hard to explain much more...

OOC / Main Thread = all claims, OOC disputes, player sign-up's, and all OOC "banter" goes here. We can use the recruitement thread as a basis for the OOC thread but the title needs to be edited though.

Map Thread = shows maps for various nations in E-V

Military Thread = where every nation posts military stuff like stats, troops, tech, vehicles (tanks, planes, ships, etc.) and so on. Also any discussion or debate about military stuff goes here.

Miscellanous Threads = All the "Diplomacy / News" threads, nation factbooks, and so on.

RP Threads = I think it'd be best to create individual threads for each conflict (for example, a Sharina VS Great Romeo war should have its own thread) and links to these threads are put up in the OOC / Main Thread.

I think this should really help, as people won't have to sift through 100's of posts to find the right IC post to reply to, or spend a hour looking through all posts to find the stuff that they need for other IC stuff. Much more neat seperating conflict threads into individual threads (and catalog them in a list of links in the main thread).

Regarding my military, I haven't built it up yet, primarily because I was doing a lot of EII stuff, but I'll be doing my fair share with my hosting nation [ALM]. So once I get my military stats updated, I'll post them there ASAP.

We should indeed make Earth V less clattered. Your list of threads looks like a good. However, there really is not a whole lot to change. I mean, we already have seperate threads for most of the stuff list.

Here's what I think should happen in terms of organization:

Main thread (I'm almost positive the title cannot be changed without moderator intervention, but Earth V members know that it is also for OOC chat in addition to recruiting.)
Main IC thread (Right here.)
Map thread (We always had one. We just don't have any maps at the moment. Once it is created, the person creating the maps should create the thread.)
Military thread (We already have one we should keep. See the "Links" section in the main thread.)
Important RP threads (Events that would cause multiple replies should have their own thread.)
Miscellanous threads (user discretion)

OOC: Great Romeo is the most open (deals with no questions asked :)) to military deals on Earth V. But Great Romeo tends to have mainly old Soviet crap. However, TG6R (maybe Sharina?) could always sell something to your nation if you want it. Just make an IC request about what your nation wants.
