It's going to be along Euston Road, probably meeting in The Euston Flyer pub on the opposite side of the road from Euston station, approximately halfway between Euston and King's Cross stations..

Meh - I park there every day as I commute to London - I've only ever seen one smashed window (car minus stereo) and a couple of cars keyed. I've not had any probs (but then I usually leave my crappy work van there!).

I know you're only joking but being a teacher is bloody hard work! :p I'm discovering this as I'm already swamped with assignments for my pgce. woo! But seriously, your average office job has got nothing on teaching.

People say we get more holidays. Indeed we do, but we work most of them anyway.

We only work from 9-3. Bollocks to that, average teacher is in from 8-5, if not longer. Even then they work when they get home.

I won't go on, just one of my pet peeves. heh.

My bro is doing no work much and has got a 79 average the git.

I want to do it because it's what I'm really interested in. I mean, Biochemistry is great and all but it's just so removed from the people it helps. Medicine, to use a cliche, is so hands on. Just what I want to do, really.

Would people prefer the 2nd or the 9th of September for this meet/piss-up?

We'll do it this way...if a two-thirds majority prefers one date over the other we go for that. If not we (read, 'I') start another thread with a poll open to everyone on General asking them whether we should have it on the 2nd or the 9th, or, for some unaccountable reason, on Myrth.

I've got an idea, why don't we all meet at A Taste Of China Town...

on second thought, maybe not.

Actually, if I was to meet anywhere, it would be at The Lowlander on Drury Lane - probably the best beer in town, and definitely a good place for a meal, and the prices aren't too dear.

Not a clue. It looks like a proper pub (as opposed to a student pub or a bar), so the chances are above average I'd say.

This was not a bump.

Okay, I'm unsure about whether I'd be able to get there for 1 because of work... really shouldn't take too much time off. Though maybe I could get off an hour or so early, and be there for the dinner at Pizza Hut or wherever? What kinda time do you think that would be??

I am definitely coming on Saturday, and should be there on time. It won't be an all-nighter for me though, as I have nowhere to stay and would quite like to be back in Stafford before 11pm. So I will probably be making my excuses no later than 8pm, unless someone offers me a floor on which to sleep.

as i said many pages back now, if amy can't make it then i won't come. this is because that saturday we have a family thing with my grandma in cardiff planned, and its ok for me to miss it if i'm 'escorting' glitzi to the meet - we come as a couple or not at all. so if she can't make it then i will have to attend the family thing.

i don't mean to speak for her, but i think its unlikely she can go. her parents probably aren't too keen on the idea of meeting random internet strangers (even if i am one ;)) and things are a bit complicated with her work and time off would be unlikely.

i'll speak with her to see if attending in the evening for the meal (after she finishes work after 5pm, as she suggested in the quote) would be possible. if so i might still be able to skip the family thing in cardiff *crosses fingers*

I could probably get there about quarter to 6? Of course, I'm not gonna get people to change their plans around me :p but if it was possible to have dinner at 6 or after, that'd be great (assuming parents confirm it's okay) and mean I could come and Huw would to :)

Uh... I had completely forgotten about this. A quick check of my mental diary says I can make it, if only for the afternoon drinks. Someone I know is leaving for to go work in Spain for a whole year on Monday. So it's more drinks and food with her and company later on in the day.

Hmm... the Euston Flyer at 1pm you say? Should be fun. If not then I can just distribute all the phone sex flyers I made, with Stalin's and TG's numbers on, all across London in it's pretty little phone booths. That would be fun. And what with the Euston and Kings X area being a red light district I won't have to walk far.

Hmm, that was a nice way to reintroduce myself after an absense. Oh well.

My trains back are at 19:00 and 20:01, so I won't be hanging around very long once the afternoon is done. Not sure I will make the evening meal, might have to grab a take-away at the end.

Hope to see as many people there as possible.

And what's with the cancellations? We are Generalites. We spam the forums all night long, and then when it comes to a night out, suddenly we have things to do?

Hi guys. Sorry I haven't been in contact over this, but I'm afraid I'm pulling out (again :S). There's a couple of reasons why but I'm not telling you either, I'm afraid; there's only so much anonymity the internet can afford.

Yes, it's lame. There's nothing I can do about it.

Whoever's still going (the proper staunch generalites, I imagine) - you have a good time. And take pictures. Drunken, nudy pictures. Public nudity. And any of the subsequent arrests - I want police brutality pics, y'hear me?

Was, I am pleased to announce, a success.

Following on from the Manchester meet (August '05) and the Birmingham meet (May '06), the third edition of the NS-UK-meet-not-exactly-whistlestop-tour arrived in London on 9/9/06 (to spare our American friends the difficulty of trying to work out the correct date ;)).

First to arrive at the Euston Flyer, at about 12.40pm was Tactical Grace, still looking like a Dawson's Creek extra. Shortly after this your estimable host, I V Stalin (that's me), entered the pub to find TG already at least 4/5 of the way through a 'poor' 'warm' pint. Must've been bad :p . On perusing the 'Speciality Beer' menu, we discovered a very agreeable German wheat beer going by the name of Franziskaner. It was about £4 for a 500ml bottle; this was London, after all. This was also the point where I discovered Tribes of Longton had pulled out of the meet due to some embarrassing/nefarious reason, which was the cause of much speculation during the afternoon. It was decided he'd either been arrested, had a bad haircut, or appeared in a bad porn film. Or all three.

Not so long later Gruenberg found the pub, and, having fought his way through the press of people there to watch the Merseyside derby (Everton 3-0 Liverpool, if you care), introduced himself. Compulsive Depression and Rhursbourg were next to arrive, Rhursbourg having been hanging around for a while but not introducing himself.

The Infinite Dunes, sporting what can only be described as a mess of a haircut, and the 'government statistician' (or, as we believe, spy) White Hats (who, incidentally, looks somewhat like Nigel Havers) made the meet the most successful so far, with 7 (at that point) attendees.

Introductions complete, and basic details about ourselves exchanged (what we do, where we're from, etc), conversation meandered around, covering the motives of environmental protestors, politics (of course), and who TG hates on the forum (I kid; of course, TG hates no one).

Many drinks were bought, not least for myself - I only bought two drinks for myself all day. The perks of being the organiser! This time I didn't have to produce ID.

The day progressed, and White Hats, his mission complete, left. Ollieland arrived a short time after (I think, my memory of the order events occurred in is somewhat hazy), having not been able to find the pub at first. At some point, Infinite Dunes started flirting with TG...;) :D

Then it got interesting. To save embarrassment to Gruenberg, I shall allow him to give his own account of events, should he be able to remember the day. Suffice to say at about 6.20pm we took him to Kings Cross and bundled him on a train back home.

By now, Pure Metal and Glitziness had arrived in town, and met up with us back at the Flyer. We adjourned to another pub - I don't remember the exact name, but it had the name Mabel in it - where more alcohol flowed (flew?), and food was ordered. I really can't remember any of the conversation from this point, so if anyone wants to fill me in, it would be much appreciated.

At some point it was decided that Infinite Dunes would organise the next meet, seeing as he'd shifted the responsibility to my good self last time. I remember Leicester being mentioned as a potential venue, which I am hopeful of, seeing as I live there. In the next couple of hours, our number dwindled as first Compulsive Depression, then Infinite Dunes and Tactical Grace, and finally Ollieland departed to catch various trains home.

Finally, at some time just after 8.00, the remaining four of us left to make our own journeys home.

Tactical Grace has photos on his phone and will post them some time this evening. Then you can judge for yourself whether White Hats looks like Nigel Havers.
