There are eight stadiums to be used for World Cup Seven. Two in Lemmitania, Six in Audioslavia:

Lemco City Municipal Stadium, Lemco City, Lemmitania
Capacity: 35,000
Not the largest stadium in Lemmitania, but the most famous and the most historic. Lemco City Municipal Stadium is based half a mile (thats 17.91 cubic litres if youre metric... or whatever) north of Lemco City, and thefore closest to the historic Mt. Gilsmore. Due to the nature of Lemmitania's national animal, the lemming, the stadium is built upon the fossils of millions of lemmings that have plummeted down Mt Gilsmore throughout history. A special "Lemming Net 2000" roof has been built recently to avoid another "Lemming Death From Above" incident which killed young Lemco Lions rugby star Lime Cleemore.

Lemmitania National Stadium, Lemmington, Lemmitania
Capacity: 73,000
Using sponsorship funds and a helluva lot of shovels, Lemmitania's national stadium has been upgraded and modernised to become the pride and joy of Lemmitanian sport. The stadium is to be used all the way up to the semi-finals and to host most of TnUI's games if their hinted boycott of Audioslavia goes ahead.

Park Lane, Holloden, Audioslavia
Capacity: 32,224
Situated directly between Cornellby and Soundgrad, this is an ideal place to hold group matches without too much hassle. Home to 1st division Holloden Athletic

NAA, Soundgrad, Audioslavia
Capacity: 50,000
Home to masters of mediocrity Kharden Rovers, the National Arena of Audioslavia is the spiritual home of Audioslavian athletics. For the past decade, 'slaves have been invited to watch mediocrity of the highest order inside the state-of-the-art stadium.

Black Lemur Complex, Machinegrad, Audioslavia
Capacity: 44000
Home of the Kharden Blackout Rugby club.

Soundgardian National Arena, Cornellby, Audioslavia
Maximum Possible Capacity: 130,000
Usually seating 105,000, the SNA in Cornellby can be refurbished to accomodate another 25000 supporters. The stadium, built almost fifty years ago, was the spiritual home of Soundgardian football and beat off competiton from the Republic Stadium to become the home of the Audioslavian national team. This stadium will be used for the final.

Republic Stadium, Marby, Audioslavia
Capacity: 72,000
The ex-home of the Republic Of Tha Machine national football and rugby teams, Rep. Stadium is situated in Marby on the outskirts of Machinegrad and is expected to host the second semi-final.

Peltier Park, Commerford, Audioslavia
Capacity: 56,000
Peltier Park is home to Kaywood United, perennial highflyers in the Audioslavian premiership.

WORLD CUP 7 SQUAD CHANGES ANNOUNCED

Seabrough, 3:45 PM: The Oglethorpian Football Association released the starting lineup for the 13th ranked Oglethorpian World Cup team composed of star players from the nation's many football clubs. "Where our team once had veteran players we now have hopeful, energetic new players. Skeptics of these changes will be suprised when the revitalized squad hits the field and does Oglethorpia proud," stated Association-President Ben Wright. Over the break between WC Six and Seven team coach Adam Wyneberg stepped down.

"People will definitely be pleased with this year's coach, Ray Krusen of Garland FC in Northern Oglethorpia," added Wright. When asked about concerns over Jimmy O'Clancy who earned 3 red cards and a 5 game suspension, Wright said "he knows not to foul up his World Cup play." Returning players for World Cup Seven include goalie Rafael Hernandez, striker Kurt Fitzgerald, midfielders Phillip Bjorn and Eddy Christianson (who, oddly enough also garnered critisism over his onfield antics earning him more than a few red cards during his career with Oglethorpia City FC) and finally defender Ed Markey.

Watch out for more coverage concerning Oglethorpia's World Cup Seven bid.

Since we don't yet have a team roster thread (I suppose technically I could start it, but I'm too lazy), I now present to you:

Bedistan Lions – World Cup 7 Team Roster

** = on team since WC5
* = on team since WC6

Starting Players

Defenders
9 – Gary Bell** (age 33, 1 goal in 31 games)
18 – Richard Weiss** (age 31, no goals in 28 games)
19 – Laura Johnson** (age 28, no goals in 32 games)
22 – Mike Thomas** (age 30, no goals in 32 games)

Midfielders
1 – Ken Sierra** (age 27, 2 goals in 32 games)
6 – Lisa Young** (age 30, 1 goal in 15 games)
13 – Gene Barber** (age 31, 4 goals in 32 games, team captain)
17 – Leigh Black** (age 31, 1 goal in 1 game)

Forwards
8 – Johnny Lewis** (age 30, 20 goals in 29 games)
16 – Jeff Whitehurst** (age 32, 8 goals in 24 games)

Goalkeeper
23 – Olivia Bream** (age 29, 31 goals allowed in 29 games)

Backup Players

Defenders
27 – Mary Nelson (age 22, has not played)
29 – Diego Sanchez (age 22, has not played)
30 – Alan Greene (age 23, has not played)
31 – Tabitha Morgan (age 21, has not played)

Midfielders
4 – Ray Schmidt** (age 30, no goals in 1 game)
15 – Sally Myers** (age 30, has not played)
26 – Phil Rivera (age 25, has not played)
28 – Carla Hill (age 22, has not played)

Forwards
5 – Ken Buhner** (age 32, no goals in 1 game)
12 – Becky Taft** (age 27, 1 goal in 1 game)
24 – Adam Eckerley* (age 27, no goals in 1 game)

Goalkeeper
10 – Chuck Mitchell** (age 27, 8 goals allowed in 8 games)

Overview

It is a pure coincidence that all four backup defenders from WC6 (Fermin, Lee, Justice, Williams) retired at the end of the Cup. As such, the backup defenders are all young and fresh. Starting midfielders Tim King and John Burks also retired, so Lisa Young has been permanently brought back up from the bench, along with Leigh Black, who successfully scored in her only WC6 match. The duo of Lewis and Whitehurst remain at forward, and Olivia Bream is in the goal once more.

Previous team performance:
WC5 - eliminated in first round (total record: 5-5-3)
WC6 - eliminated in first round (total record: 8-6-5)
Total record: 13-11-8

New Players Report

Jimmy O'Clancy
Skeptics have raised concern over the Irish O'Clancy and his placement as defender on the World Cup team; the Football Association put him under a 5 game suspension last season for earning 3 red cards in 4 games. Association President Ben Wright doesn't agree stating "he knows not to foul up his World Cup play."

Wally Kasavin
Kasavin comes from Oglethorpia's Garland FC and has earned acclaim as a talented midfielder. Coach Ray Krusen (also brought on board to lead the WC7 squad) has also jokingly said that Wally has a "hard head" with the number of headers the cheifly-British midfielder takes. We'll be watching this modest-midfielder.

Danny Bolton
Hailing from Tripoli in tropical Southern Oglethorpia, Danny Bolton, star striker of Seabrough United has been called the "next Alfonzo Clay," recently-retired 3-time World Cup-er. We'll see if Bolton lives up to the hype this World Cup.

The Zucchinis have officially started intensive training to prepare for their next shot at qualification into the World Cup. After a dismal qualifying last time round, the Zucchinis are looking to reinstate their position as a footballing great. Captain Urk, "I must say, after our victorious World Cup 3, our standard has dropped greatly. We are trying to find back our greatness that overshadowed everybody not long ago, and I believe we can do that again. This may be our year." Indeed, after more than a decade since their victory, the Zucchinis believe this is the one to win to put them back on the footballing map.

Judgement Day approaching from slaves

22/8/03 named as possible termination date for World Cup Hosts

On this date, Audioslavia's president will be departing for university, and chaos is expected to ensue after his departure. The estimated time between the president leaving and the country wiping itself out is 21 days, or 60 if the president isnt as forgetful as first thought.

Audioslavia will do it's best to make the best of the time it has left.

Aw, TnUI sweetie, you DO care.

The new and improved Crocodiles are keen to erase the stain on the national honour created by their first-ever failure to qualify for the second round of the World Cup. Only five players remain from WC5, and the average player age is 20. The team will be captained by defender Rosa Bibere. Scoring punch is expected to be delivered by David Cavaco, the top scorer for Tanah Burung in the last two Cups.

Crocodiles starting line-up (club team in brackets, asterik indicates umber of Cups played):
Goal Simon da Gama* (Ukun Rasikan)
Defence Fatmawati Agus Putri* (Coop Ag)
Defence Alex Manupatti (Tiga Burung)
Defence Rosa Bibere** (Lovefest) - captain
Defence Doris Rumbiak (Loro Sae)
Midfield Wim van Esterik* (Black-and-Red Army)
Midfield Cassie da Cruz (Matebian)
Midfield Canabe Livit (Ellery Camp exchange programme)
Midfield Zachary Santos (Matebian)
Striker David Cavaco** (Rubber Tappers)
Striker Yosepha Syahrir (Black-and-Red Army)

The team will be coached by Guntur Ruak, son of the Crocodiles coach in WC2, Matan Ruak.

Edit to add: we will also return to the old kit that saw us to such highs in our WC2 debut: The Crocodiles will wear home strip in our national colours. Red for the blood of the patriots who died to free us from foreign rule. Yellow for the sun that rises in the east, where our land lies kissed by the dawn in which the birds sing so sweetly. Black for the courage and resolve that maintained us in the dark colonial years and that carries us forward still. All descending from a scoop neck in a triangular pattern, if you please, with black shorts to match. Away kit: green tops and black shorts.

Mike White: Hey there folks, i'm Mike White and it's another episode of Football Wrapup: Pre-World Cup Edition. Here with me is Donald Crowhurst, whom you'll be seeing a lot of as this 7th World Cup gets underway.

Don Crowhurst: Aye.

Mike White: So, it's the first time in Oglethorpian WC history that the squad's been changed around. What do you think of the new additions to the team?

Don Crowhurst: Well, we've been watching the bunch from Seabrough United the last season so it's good to see Danny-boy onboard.

Mike White: Danny-boy?

Don Crowhurst: You know that Bolton-fellow. The striker-chap guy out in front.

Mike White: (pause) Uh, I see. Yes, he shows quite a bit of promise. How about Kasavin playing midfield this year?

Don Crowhurst: Good for him. Coach says'hes got a hard head. I'd agree concerning that tosser.

Mike White: He's a defender.

Don Crowhurst: Right, bloody well right. You sure know this whole football-thing don't you?

Mike White: I've been commentating for 17 years, Don.

Don Crowhurst: Oh, right. Right. Forget about it.

Don Crowhurst: I wanna do the closing.

Mike White: Take it away.

Okay. The big ol' spreadsheet that allows me and Aud to very quickly and easily generate a round of scores using the "complex" formula that I "developed" based on Bedistan's excellent excellent work is all done. So qualifiers will begin tomorrow. The formula essentially does the following:

1. Assigns a base defensive score for each team based on that team's past performance.

2. modifies that defensive score based on the relative ranking of the two teams.

3. Further modifies that score to take into account home-field advantage.

4. Awards a number of attacks that is based on the team's historical offensive performance.

Of course, these are still random numbers we're talking about. So we'll have to see if this was worth all the trouble. If you want to see the table where the stats are drawn from, see bedistan's table (I don't have the energy to go looking for the link right now). I just added in post-qualifying results from WC6.

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini begins their World Cup campaign again in qualifying. They are in Group 9 and face, of all countries, Oglethorpia. For those in the know, Oglethorpia was in the qualifying group which knocked Giant Zucchini out of the World Cup for the first time in its illustrious history. This time round, they face Ogle again for their chance for a comeback. Head Coach Mr Hurr, "I feel it is very fitting for (Oglethorpia) to be in our qualifying group again. You can say it's a kind of revenge if we can requalify with Ogle in our qualifying group." Indeed, they must put their dreadful past behind them and try to reestablish themselves as one of the top football nations in the world, if not THE best. It will be a long hard way ahead, and we will be hoping that the Zucchinis will once again claim a place in the World Cup finals, where they belong.

[Music plays as footage of a football match is shown. A die-hard Bedistani football enthusiast might recognize it as being from the game against Ariddia in World Cup 5 qualifying. Cut to another scene, showing many of the same players in a different location. This is from the Bedistan-Ariddia match in the first round of WC6. Music builds to a crescendo as the BSTV logo and the WC7 emblem appear on the screen. Music fades and the camera zooms in once again on two men sitting behind a desk.]

Sam: Good evening, everybody, and welcome to the BSTV World Cup Seven preview show. I'm Sam Murphy...

Joey: ...and I'm Joey Stanton. Good to be here once again.

Sam: Well, let's cut right to the chase. The group draws have been completed and were just released a short time ago. The Lions find themselves this time in Group 1.

Joey: Let's take a look at that group:

Group 1
Ariddia
Bedistan
Rhaken Kull
Etria
Middleton
The Republic of Canada

Sam: One thing I can definitely say: our qualifying group this time looks one hell of a lot easier than it did last time.

Joey: Indeed, Sam. As you'll remember, we were in Qualifying Group 6 four years ago with the likes of Runaway Moose, Christofi, Haraki, and Ironchefk. I heard several others refer to it as a "group of death", and it certainly seemed that way.

Sam: Especially in the first half of qualifying. After 6 of the 14 games, we were solidly at the bottom of the group with an 0-3-3 record. Amazingly, though, we then managed to win seven of the last eight games! Luck can be very fickle sometimes.

Joey: Well, as you said, it shouldn't be too tough this time. Rhaken Kull has had previous cup experience, but they've recently been fairly weak. There are also three brand-new teams here, but I think our eight-year veterans will have no trouble with them. I'd have to say our only significant competition here is Ariddia.

Sam: Ariddia again, eh?

Joey: Yes, indeed. We've played them twice before, once in WC5 qualifying and once in the first round of WC6. Both matches ended in a 2-2 tie.

Sam: Boy, I can imagine the excitement when we meet up again sometime in the near future. Surely one team or the other will give way this time...

Joey: But again, besides Ariddia, our group looks to be pretty easy, which is a welcome change for us.

Sam: OK, Joey, here's your time to shine. What are your picks for the other fourteen groups? Remember that two of the six teams in each group will advance.

Joey: All right, here goes.
Group 2 - Runaway Moose will probably run away with it. ;) And my obligatory second pick would have to be our southwestern neighbors from Commerce Heights. There's a lot of Bedistani influence there, and I'm hoping that includes footballing prowess.
In Group 3, Tanah Burung should have no problems, and Ravenspire would seem to be the other likely pick. I wouldn't count out Alasdair I Frosticus, though, returning to the World Cup scene after a fairly long absence.
Group 4...eh, that's kinda tough. I'll have to stick with Dark Outcasts and One Red Dot, especially the latter.
In Group 5, Errinundera has it made. As for the second one, I'll go with a fairly oddball choice of Kaze Progressa, mainly because their nation has shown quite a bit of interest here and will likely stand behind their players.
Group 6 is a tossup. Most likely Halfassedstates, and I'll go with Tha Machine to take second.
Kingsford should have little trouble in Group 7, and just for the hell of it I'll say North Russia as well.
Group 8 goes to the Goofballs, and I think Pure Evil will finally see a bit of luck this time.
In Group 9, it's Oglethorpia and Giant Zucchini. No contest.
After finishing second to Brazillico in WC6, Quohog will certainly be giving its all to get to the Cup, and The Belmore Family did exceptionally well in qualifying last time, so I'll take them along too.
In Group 11, I'd go with the Snub Nose 38 Hooligans, as well as the Kickfooters of Gilmeecia. Gilmeecia seems like an odd choice, but their coach definitely has experience at the international level and I think she'll bring the team through.
In Group 12, I believe Squornshelous will make it through again, and if the West Ariddians play ball as well as their parent nation, they'll be through as well.
Spaam gets my vote for Group 13, along with Christofi. Dennisov seems to be on the way down.
Svecia and Haraki in 14.
The final group should see TnUI going through, along with just about anyone else on the list. I'll say Timway.

Sam: OK, we'll see how good you are with that. For BSTV, I'm Sam Murphy...

Joey: ...and I'm Joey Stanton, signing off.

I'm willing to consider this, since Dave V has shown an interest in RPing by posting his roster. Before scores are posted (about noon NA EST, or 5pm in Englandia) I'll replace whichever of the tentative participants has the least-recent post. So to you five listed above: if you don't want to be bumped from the tourney, post here!

A post will follow in a few minutes listing the matchups for the 10 match days.

I note that on the official website, Spaam's got Brazillico ranked 3rd. However, according to my calculations from wc6 based on TnUI's calculations, BZ is first. As I've already ranked the teams for wc7, I'm going with mine/TnUI's assessment that BZ is first, though I'm not going to double-check the math right now to see who is correct.

Since, by my calculations, the top-ranked team is not participating, and because I think there should be a top-ranked team in the world, for wc7 all rankings have been moved up one place. So Quohog is 1, Spaam is 2, etc. I have not compressed rankings in any other way. I've just bumped everybody up one so that we can have a #1 team. New nations and nations that have not participated in so long that they no longer have a ranking are still ranked 100.

OOC: The Main Reason I'm posting here is to get this page under my "Your Topics" so I don't have to search for it. But what the heck, I'll go ahead and post an Athletic Review.

Slippy: Welcome to the Athletic Review! I'm Slippy Whitewash
Gabe: And I'm Gabe Banners. Tonight, we begin our special World Cup Series. This is World Cup 7, and it's been nothing but luck so far for Kingsford. We're the highest ranked we've ever been, and we have our qualifying schedule and group here for you today. Lets take a look, shall we?

Group 7 consists of Kingsford, Bubsy, Bardai, GnOoLoCoPeLep, North Russia, and Yentrof. Slippy, give us a rundown.

Slippy: Well Gabe, we'll start with Bubsy. They're the only other ranked team in this group besides Kingsford. The other teams are all unranked, and I can't tell you much about their footballing history, so I'll give you an estimated prediction:

Kingsford
Bubsy
GnOoLoCoPeLep
Yentrof
Bardai
North Russia

Gabe: Thanks, Slippy. Now I'm here to present with you the schedule.

Bubsy @ Kingsford
Yentrof @ Kingsford
GnOoLoCoPeLep @ Kingsford
Kingsford @ North Russia
Kingsford @ Bardai
Kingsford @ Bubsy
Bardai @ Kiingsford
Kingsford @ GnOoLoCoPeLep
North Russia @ Kingsford
Kingsford @ Yentrof

all home matches will be held at Honor, in Byrana, given Byrana FC's victory of the Uppaermunn Order National Championship.

Slippy: Thanks Gabe. and now, we'll talk about the roster changes of Kingsford between WC6 and 7.

--Renson Davis replaces Raldo Baerdunsen as Assistant Coach
--Mike Talisman replaces Taver Raenan as backup keeper, due to a torn ACL
--Forte DeLago replaces Havul Taennurson as starting midfielder due to retirement
--John Raver replaces Carson Salgo as starting midfielder due to retirement
--Wade Adrian replaces Mark North as starting midfielder, due to transfer to Northern Kings national team
--Desypar replaces Andrew Vellir as starting forward
--Andrew Vellir replaces Harry Stumms as backup forward, due to transfer to the Northern Kings team.

New Players on the team are Otto Sphinx, Brian Cartanial, and Dusty Ericsson as backup midfielders.
Gabe: That's all the time we have for today. Until then, I'm Gabe Banners
Slippy: and I'm Slippy Whitewash, and this is Athletic Review.

Now, before anyone complains that too many road teams are winning... in most of the cases where road teams won on matchday 1, the road team was ranked significantly higher than the home team. By my count (which may be a little off), the home team was 9-4-6 when both teams were unranked.

Note too that some of the unranked teams have played in previous Cups (Rhaken Kull, Alasdair I Frosticus, Alhana Catherine, and a few others, I think), so they will have offensive and defensive ratings better or worse than average depending on their past performance.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Coach of the National Football squad.

Coach Bi Kikere: Thank you. I'm trying not to be too disappointed with today's performance. One thing I would like to make clear: This team does take the game of football seriously, and we are out there to win. The blunders made on the field today were not due to lack of footballing spirit among the Kickfooter players. Although we've been working hard the past two years getting ready for the tournament, it's probably fair to keep in mind that this is the first match these people have played, and they were bound to need a breaking-in period. I guess. So I'm going to keep my cool and hope for the best in the next game.

I'd like to commend goalkeeper Gilmooster for making three saves on the day. That's really better than I might have expected. Not better than I would have liked, but probably better than I had a right to expect. Allowing three goals against an inexperienced side like Antaeus Rising is nothing to be too terribly ashamed of. Keeping in mind that Gilgabody's never played an actual game of football before.

I'd also like to commend Gilgo Gobbins for taking our only shot on goal today. Good job, Gilgo. And to the rest of the team, I'd like to say that they were stifled by a terrific defense, but really, they're still just a little afraid of the ball. I'm going to be working hard on their assertiveness skills before the next match.

Okay, I'll field a few questions now. You, there.

GG: Gillian Gilquest, Gilmeeci Sports Weekly. Coach Kikere, what did you think of the new National Stadium?

Coach Kikere: It's fine. Decent turf, not quite as smooth as you expect in a brand-new stadium, and you can see they cut costs on the fixtures and stuff. But the design is nice. Okay... you.

BM: Blintz Mitersaw, Gilmeecian Betting Line Daily. Is the National Stadium better than stadiums you've played in in other countries, ma'am?

Coach Kikere: Some of them. Better than some of the ones in Lemmitania, that's for sure. But I understand that Cup games will be held in all-new stadiums this time.

BM: How does it compare to other countries' national stadiums?

Coach Kikere: Well, it's brand new. And that's one good thing I can say for it. But for a brand new stadium, the plumbing is awful. We couldn't get enough water pressure for the entire team to shower after the game. They had to go two at a time. I mean, that's pretty pathetic.

BM: But you'd say that overall, this is one of the best national stadiums you've ever played in, right?

Coach Kikere: No. No, I wouldn't say that at all.

BM: But it's acceptable?

Coach Kikere: We only have to play five games here. And I'm glad of that.

BM: Would you say that it's better than a shed that collapsed under the weight of a bunch of rats?

Coach Kikere: Huh? A shed that collapsed under a bunch of rats? What are you talking about?

President Louis Gilsterson: Stop pestering Coach Kikere, Blintz. No more questions.
Tanah Burung

DAILY CROCODILE

Usually, scoring one goal against defensive powerhouse Ravenspire is accomplishment enough for a win. It was enough for Tanah Burung to take the win the last time these two teams met. Guntur Ruak's new-look Crocodiles managed to score two goals at Ravenspire and still came away with just one point.

Tanah Burung's goals were marked by veteran striker David Cavaco and by Canabe Livit, the young product of the Errinundera-Tanah Burung football exchange programme. Her time in Ellery Camp had clearly paid off for the young midfielder, who played the game with a sprig of Errinundrian foliage in her back pocket and has vowed to plant a tree in a different province for every goal she scores. "The first tree is back home in the Findabaya rain forest, of course," she laughed, "although Findabaya has no shortage on trees!"

With a defensive struggle expected, both teams surprised fans by playing wide-open football and stressing their attack. "Our offence has been rusty," Ruak said. "Sitting back and defending doggedly did not succeed last Cup. So we decided to open it up and attack, attack, attack. And the Ravens did the same." Long runs by captain Rosa Bibere from the defensive line were a feature of the Tanah Burung offence. "Like a partisan striking deep into enemy territory," the coach commented.

With the 2-2 draw, the top seeds in Group 3 sit in the middle of the table. Both will need to overcome the unranked teams in their upcoming matches to be sure of a World Cup spot.

From the Columbia Times-Constitution:

Same Old, Same Old to Kick off World Cup Campaign

COLUMBIA, FD -- The Bedistan Lions have a rather odd way of qualifying for the World Cup every four years. The team usually gets off to a very poor start, then turns it up just enough at the end of qualifying to barely squeak through.

World Cup 7 appears to be no exception.

Every one of Holmes Stadium's 82,814 seats was filled in anticipation of the match against Ariddia. With the conclusion of the ongoing Aquillan War in the Bedistani theater, citizens were eager to get out and show support for their team. This was the third time the Lions had faced the Ariddian team, and they were determined to make this match end in something other than a 2-2 draw.

At first, both teams seemed very defensive, but the game opened up in a hurry. Striker Johnny Lewis, starting in his third Cup qualifying round, made his presence known in the 20th minute with a shot at Ariddia's goal, but the goalkeeper had no problem deflecting it. The scoreline remained even for the remainder of the half.

Not long after the second half started, Olivia Bream was caught with her guard down as an Ariddian ball sailed into the net, giving them the first goal of the game. Bedistan struck next, with midfield sensation Leigh Black, playing in only her second international game, firing one past the Ariddian goalkeeper for the equalizer. But alas, the opposing side wasn't done, and they managed the winning goal in the 79th minute.

"We'll get 'em next time," says Bedistani team captain Gene Barber. "If we can tie them twice, we can sure as hell beat 'em. They took it to us, but now we'll send it back to them."

Coach Jim Parker was indifferent. "I think it's in the stars that we're supposed to lose our first qualifying game each time. We always suck at the beginning, but last time we shined brightly in the second half of qualifying. It'll be the same this time."

The team will travel to Rhaken Kull for their second qualifying match.

Final score:
Bedistan 1 (Black 62)

Brittanian WC VII Campaign off to a bumpy start

Brittania kicked off their Seventh consecutive World Cup Campaign with a stuttering 1-0 defeat to third ranked Errinundera. Sluggish throughout, the Game was a midfield battle, with the ball rarely ending in a penalty box long enough for an attempt on goal to be registered. Unfortunatley a neat throughball, and the insufficiently quick reactions of Cannon lead to the loss of a goal in the 17th minute. Matters were compounded when Andrew Zurich indicated to the bench he could not go on, and was substituted for Lionel in the 34th minute.

Brittanian luck took a nose dive further when Both Winters and Lionel were forced to leave the game with thigh and knee injuries respectivley. Lacking any further offensive players, Brittania were forced to field McHilton & Junnon up front, unsprisingly they were limited to long range efforts, one of which spectacularly crashed off the upright after beating the Erinundera keeper.

After the game, Jarvis Smith cited-

"Well, what can you do? I'll freely admit I did not envisign the loss of both our starting strikers and Lionel. We're waiting on the results of some scans, but in a worst case scenario, we could be looking at the loss of all three for the majority of the campaign. I thought we looked dangerous going forward, and were unlucky not to put away some chances. Danny's [McHilton] brilliant shot hit the bar, which summed up our evening. We'll be looking to bounce back though, and I'm optimistic at this stage."

Is there any factor that takes roleplaying into account? This is my first time so I'm not sure how things work, but I would like to think, at least, that the work I've done so far with the rosters and the report I'm in the middle of typing (I just thought of this while writing it) would have some kind of reward.

Anyway, I'll post that RP up when I'm finished.

Welcome to BWCC. (Busby's World Cup Corner)

Hanson: Hi and welcome to Busby's World Cup Corner, this was set up to follow the progress of Busby in the world cups. Two friends here with me are Billy Clark, a retired footballer and Tom Simpson who was left out of the world cup squad. Welcome.

Tom+Billy: Hi

Hanson: Firstly gentlemen Busby's first match was against Kingsford and heavy favourate in group seven. Not exactly the first match they wanted was it?

Billy: Well no, the Busby side is pretty young, the oldest there is Eckard who is 30 and then Neil Davis at 28, but the rest of the side are full of youngters under the age of 24. They wanted a nice calm game first just so that they could get into the feel of it, then they could play some quality football.

Hanson: Yes, but what do you think of the result, 3-1 first match, thats gonna lower their spirit.

Billy: Yes of course, losing the first match is always hard on a team but they must remember that it is still early and things could all change.

Hanson: I see well Tom what do you think?

Tom: Well i agree with Billy, it was a differcult first match but they must keep there spirits high.

Hanson: Well the only player who scored was Neil Davis with a header from Gary Shephard. Lets take a look.

(Screen shows, Shephard running along the right wing close behind him a defender. He crosses and Davis headers it in the top corner.)

Hanson: Well that was nice football!

Tom: Yes it was, but you can't just play one bit of nice football then stop. You are going to pay the price and Busby did that match.

Hanson: About Shephard, a promising young player who had many attempts of goal but just couldn't get it in the net.

Billy: Well yes he is an outstanding player, has pace, strength but if he could have that little bit of luck he could have had a few goals.

Hanson: We must not forget the beautiful play the Kingsford played. We shall leave you with the goals of the match.

Goodnight.

(OOC Note: As with all of my RPs, all words spoken are in Nikean, and this is the translated version, basically what the subtitles say for non-Nikean speakers)

<<The television screen in Nikean homes is blessed with scenes of various football scenes, goals being scored, great saves, all faded into national flags of various countries. The words "Yentereleth Terestbeki" (Nikean for 'World Cup Report') appear at the end of the series of scenes

<<Two men are seated at a modern desk, while a wall with images of football players in various plays is behind them, these images are faded into the red of the wall. Plasma flat-screen are behind both men as they are seated at either end of the table which is shaped like the top of a trapezoid, only straightened out.>>

First Man: Welcome, football fans, to our daily World Cup Report. I'm Isterin Limentel, along with Rakemin Aseriuene, and its been a busy day in qualifying for World Cup 7.

Aseriuene: Yes, it has, and we'll get to the highlights of today's match against Trafari, as well as highlights from other matches, but first, we'll take a look at Group 3, which is the group Nikea is in.

<<The screen changes to a table of the group>>

Aseriuene: This is the group standings as they look currently. Nikea, with our 2-0 win over Trafari today, are tops of the table, for now, as the other winner today, Freedom Country, has a smaller goal differential. The two favourites from the group, Tanah Burung and Ravenspire, drew today, while Alasdair I Frosticus and Trafari round out the group.

<<The screen changes to a schedule.>>

Aseriuene: Here are Nikea's matches. Next up is an away match at Freedom Country, followed by a trip to Ravenspire. Following that, Nikea is at home at Solarin Stadium to take on 20th ranked Tanah Burung, then back on the road to visit Trafari. Following that is another road game against Alasdair, then finally at home for two games, at least that is if that scheduling error is a true error, for matches against Ravenspire and Alasdair. The last two matches are away to Tanah Burung, and then at home to Freedom Country.

<<The screen changes back to the two commentators.>>

Limentel: Well, let's get on to the highlights of today's match, shall we?

<<The same background that is shown on the wall now replaces the entire screen, while "Trafari v. Nikea" slides onto the screen.

Various shots of Nikean players warming up are shown.>>

Limentel: Nikea's best suited up today for the match with Trafari, hoping their non-friendly international match would result in a win. Things looked grim, however, when in the 5th minute, Trafari made a great run down the left side, crossing it into the middle, but the header was just wide.

<<The replay of what Limentel just described is reshown on the screen in slower motion>>

Aseriuene: Yes, a nifty little play to set things up, and the ball just wouldn't go in for them.

Limentel: Then, in the 21st minute, Nikea had their chance, when Keserin Keresiuene was in just outside the box, but his volley went high over the bar.

<<Again, the replay is shown in slower motion>>

Aseriuene: Nice set up by Istertel there, the ball deflects off the Trafari defender right to Keresiuene, but the SF Queldas star could not find the target.

Limentel: The teams were scoreless after the half, but in the 53rd minute, the draw was broken.

Aseriuene: Yes, nice little run down the right side by Irisiuene, cutting into the middle and placing it just inside the right post. Great individual effort, and by the sound of the capacity crowd at Solarin Stadium, they seemed to think so too.

<<This replay is again shown in slower motion, with no talking, and then cuts to a shot of the Nikean bench rising off the bench and cheering>>

Limentel: Manager Resterin Terestel seems happy with the goal as well. Nikean defense took over from here, but a late foul by Trafari proved costly.

<<The slower motion replay is shown.>>

Aseriuene: Yes, sloppy play by the Trafari player, must have been a bit frustrated. He brought down Yaskalaitel just outside the box.

Limentel: That led to something we saw quite often in Solarin Stadium during the NPL, Keserin Keresiuene lining up a free kick just outside the box, and he buried it just under the bar in the right corner.

<<Again, this is shown again in slower motion>>

Aseriuene: Those free kicks are one big reason why Queldas won the league title again this year. Perfectly placed, just outside the reach of the Trafari keeper.

<<A score summary is then shown on the screen:
[code:1:e555dd58be]
Trafari 0

Nikea 2
Irisiuene (53), Keresiuene (88)
[/code:1:e555dd58be]>>

Limentel: So Nikea starts off their World Cup qualifying quest with a victory today.

<<Screen returns to the two commentators.>>

Limentel: So, any comments about how the future will go for Nikea in Group 3?

Aseriuene: Well, today's result looks promising, but I don't have much hope for qualifying for the Finals. Tanah Burung is just too strong for this inexperienced team to handle, and Ravenspire and Alasdair might prove to be too much for Nikea as well. I think they will surprise a few people, but otherwise, I think a 4th place finish would be a fantastic result for the country's first ever World Cup qualifiers.

The Weegies
31-08-2003, 02:00
Weegies Star Sport Report.

In their first competitive football match ever, The Weegies pulled of a fairly credible 1-all draw against also unranked New-Persia at home in The People's Stadium in Mackintosh.

The Weegies got off to a dream start to the World Cup Qualifiers with striker Jamie Smith, only 19 years old got his, and the country's first international goal after seven minutes of play, with a marvellous strike from close range set up by a blistering cross from our other young hopeful, 18-year-old attacking right-winger Fred Kincaid. The home crowd erupted after this spectacular example of football, and all was thought well in Mackintosh.

However, the honeymoon period in international football was soon over as New-Persia soon reasserted themselves and attacked dangerously, and within five minutes the New-Persians had equalised, showing our defense up considerably. With the defense looking lost, all the New-Persians had to do was beat the keeper, and a skillful lob did just that.

After this, both teams defenses tightened up, and carried themselves off quite well, with few chances going either way, the best of which was New-Persias star striker hitting a searing 20-yard strike, causing many heart attacks in the Weegies crowd and led our goalkeeper Tommy Devopoulous pulling off a fantastic save.

Manager James Mackenzie said: "It was a fantastic atmosphere, yes, and a fairly good result for our young team (None of the team are over 25 years old) Though you have to remember, we have yet to play the big seeded teams, and that is when we truly find out how good we are."

The Team was as follows:

Devopoulous, Tommy (GK)
McMenamin, Harry (DL)
Lennison, Kenny (DC)
Hussain, Lemar (DC) (substituted for Levinson, Jerry (53) due to injury.)
McDonald, Kevin (DR)
Ferguson, George (ML) (substituted for Cameron, Alistair (72).)
Corbett, Harry (MC)
Dickinson, Scott (MC)
Kincaid, Fred (MR) (substituted for Anderson, Lyle (72).)
Quattro, Andy (SC)
Smith, Jamie (SC)

The result means our team lies in 3rd place, as shown here.

Is there any factor that takes roleplaying into account? This is my first time so I'm not sure how things work, but I would like to think, at least, that the work I've done so far with the rosters and the report I'm in the middle of typing (I just thought of this while writing it) would have some kind of reward.

<OOC>Yes, this has been discussed repeatedly. Many are in favor of it, but no one has ever proposed a remotely workable scheme (unless I'm forgetting one). So if you have any ideas, please share them, I'm sure we'd all be interested!

Aquilla-- apologies. I did indeed bump Yentrof. Dave V was very anxious to get in and went so far as to post a roster on the other thread. Per my earlier post, TnUI had five participants who had not personally confirmed their participation in this Cup, and Yentrof was on the list. When I did a search on the forums, I did not find any posts by Yentrof. I assumed therefore that Yentrof wasn't really going to participate. Of course if I had realized that this was a friend of yours, I would have bumped one of the other nations.

Bedistan-- I'm actually planning to post (perhaps on the official website) the entire spreadsheet we're using to generate scores, just to make the process as open as possible. But that won't be until Tuesday, when I return to the office, or perhaps even Wednesday.

Finally, I apologize for forgetting to create a separate thread for the scores. I will do that before posting matchday 2 results (and I'll post matchday 1 results at the head of the new thread).</OOC>

From the journals of Bi Kikere...

Boarding the ship for Nonexistentcitygrad, I can't help but feel a twinge of trepidation. Should we really be sailing for a place that, according to its own name, doesn't exist? I'm just thankful our route takes us nowhere near the Bermuda Triangle. I do wish Nonex. had hosted their first match, so that I might have the reassurance that some other squad had been the first to venture there.

More than that, though, I'm apprehensive about this team. Team! Hah! Teamwork's just another thing I have to teach them. It appalls me that I had to teach that fool Gilderbecke how to run. Who doesn't know how to run? He was actually terrified at the prospect of having both his feet leave the ground at the same time. Not until I made Gilburne and Gobbins hoist him into the air did he realize that leaving the earth without dying was even possible.

And yet... he does seem to understand the offsides rule, which is more that I can say for any of the strikers. If only we could get possession of the ball, we might be losing it for crossing behind the defenders every time.

I knew that taking on the Gilmeecian national team would be a challenge. What I did not realize is that Gilmeecians are stupider than most of the Great Apes. If only it were legal to enter a squad of gorillas, my life would be that much easier. Well-- if by chance I am able to rise above these Sisyphean challenges-- and when I have to explain what "no hands" means for the ninetieth time, I really do feel like Sisyphus-- the glory will be all the greater.

I try hard not to despair.

Each Errinundrian goal will be allotted as follows:

antarcticad = 20 sided dice
longipesp = 2x8 sided
firset = 12 sided
other forward (i,e substitute or replacement) = 10 sided
other player = 8 sided

Each goal will be rolled, highest scores. Eg for goal against EB:
antarcticad = 14
longipesp = 6
firset = 5
other forward = 3

So antarcticad scores the goal.

Expectations were high throughout Akbarbad city as the national team faced a rematch against fourth ranked team Halfassedstates. The previous encounter had ended in a dissapointing goalless draw but there was only joy for the home team here as they ran out 2-0 winners. After a barren first half, Akbarland scored twice in the space of five minutes in the second half through star striker Samin Akbar and left winger Hamid Kabir's audacios freekick. Second seeds Spaam today suffered a shock loss to Dennisov, in the first match of the World Cup VII Qualifiers. It was Spaam's biggest loss ever, as they went down 5-1 to the former World Cup champions. Last time these teams met was in the Quarter Finals of World Cup IV, which Dennisov went on to win. Spaam's previous biggest loss was 3-0 to Brazillico, who also went on to win World Cup VI. New Spaam coach Dan Yatan said he was very disappointed with the match, but said that there were still some issues to sort out, since this is the first World Cup for msot of the players (and second for the rest). Striker Méla Sëhelin score the consolation goal in the 79th minute.

Well, I'm not sure about the mathematical stuff you use to determine the scores, but perhaps a modifying bonus to help the better roleplayer? I'm not saying that a lower ranked team, if he RPs better than the higher ranked one, should win, but perhaps an extra boost to one of the stats, or an extra point value (or whatever you use, not sure on the spreadsheet specifics, I could give a better explanation with specifics when I see the sheet on Tuesday). It just makes it more rewarding, seeing as some people put lots of effort into these things and end up losing even though an opponent might not post anything up at all, not even a roster.

So, in summary, basically maybe an extra column on the spreadsheet that boosts up the ratings slightly for the better RPer, and there could also be a scale that can be used based on RP quality difference between the two sides.

Major news items from the Fanny Moo Examiner On-line:

http://reachcanada.com/Uploads/MastHeadWebsite/MastHeadWebSite.4.gif

SPRING FESTIVAL TOMORROW
Celebrations for the first day of spring take place at sunrise tomorrow under the canopy of our sacred tree CUNNUSVACCAE. Village mayor, vacam, will lead the ceremony which will involve much naked dancing and carousing in the bush.

FANNY MOO COACH THREATENS SACKINGS
sandrab has told leading Fanny Moo football players that reputations will count for nothing as she tries to revamp the side which is facing a tough fight to avoid relegation to the second division. "Many of the players are resting on their laurels and aren't really putting in. This isn't good enough. If there's one thing I've learned from my former career with the Longfoots under fionar is that sentiment cannot be allowed to interfere. If people aren't performing they're out."

When it was pointed out to sandrab that she too was having a dismal season, the coach (after the screaming obscenities had died down) responded, "I am quite willing to drop myself from the Fannies, if necessary." On current form Bemm River and Waratah Flat seem certain to be relegated at the end of the season. Fanny Moo is in a tense struggle with Goolengook and Sassafras to avoid the final relegation spot.

WARM WELOME FOR LONGFOOTS IN E.B.
Local star, pomaderrisa, on the road with the national team reports that the players were given a wonderful reception from the moment they arrived in Europa Brittania. "My team mates had warned me that some of the countries they visited last cup were extremely intimidating. I was quite apprehensive about Europa Brittania but, fortunately, we were treated as celebrities from the start."

"We were billeted in pairs with local families - sedinburgh and I stayed with a young couple on the south side of their capital city. The sex between the four of us was great. I don't know what the older players are on about when they say they don't like being on the road."

"The city is polluted compared with Errinundera and the forests have disappeared. Whilst not compulsory, most people we met were vegetarian and nudity was accepted everywhere. Everybody in EB thinks they are the equal of the next bloke, something that goes down well with Errinundrians. I'm looking forward to getting intimately acquainted with other nations."

REFUGEE TELLS HARROWING TALE
New Fanny Moo resident, marcelm today told The Examiner of his ordeal in Quohog prior to fleeing to Errinundera. "My wife and daughters were assaulted by the police then they, along with all my relatives up to my second cousins were killed." He says that his crime was that he had been the manager of a company that had beaten a government minister's own company in a tender to build a shopping centre. "I'm sick of big business and dictatorial government. They are both utterly corrupt. I've discovered paradise here in Fanny Moo."

DULL GAME IN EUROPA BRITTANIA
Star striker, antarcticad, scored the only goal in a lacklustre game against Europa Brittania. The game was dominated by strong defensive and midfield play by both sides. Star players for Errinundera were regnanse in goals, snapier in defence and captain, moschatuma.

Coach, fionar, was pleased nevertheless. "Europa Brittania are the second ranked team in the group after ourselves and to beat them on the road is a real bonus. Our most difficult period in the qualifiers is at the start with three consecutive away games. Travelling has been one of our weaknesses in the past and this win gets our Cup campaign off to a great start. I'm especially pleased with regnanse. Critics have been saying that he wasn't good enough but today he well and truly silenced them."

regnanse was modest about his game. "The midfielders and defenders made my job easy. They tied up the Europa Brittania attack so that I wasn't under a lot of pressure. On top of that the opposition had terrible luck with injuries. Andy Zurich is a wonderful player. We all love to watch him play. It would be a tragedy if he were out for the rest of the cup.

ANTARCTICAD SHOCKS FANS ONCE MORE
Football fans around the world, wondering what hairstyle antarcticad would introduce for WC7, were disappointed that he appeared with a shaved head. Tanah Burung fan, Nirvas Neli, visiting Errinundera for holidays, expressed the disappointment felt by everyone. "In WC5 he had bright green dreadlocks; in WC6 he had a glowing mane; this is really weak."

We asked antarcticad why the shiny pate? "It's not by choice I tell you," he said. "It all fell out. The glowing hair was powered by a subcutaneous battery linked to optical fibres sown into the scalp in between the hair follicles. The battery leaked and has killed all the hair follicles. That's the price of fame, I guess."

PLOSER PLEASED; UNIONS PLAN ACTION
General manager of Ploser Ltd, cabenap, expressed delight in the government's decision to cut taxes on big business. "This is going to give us a boost. Our sponsorship of WC7 is introducing our leather-substitute products to the world. This tax break will help us compete on world markets. Our football plant in Fanny Moo is gearing up production to meet demand."

Local union leader, sharonb, isn't so rosy-eyed. "They pay the Fannies a pittance. It's not far off being slave labour. We are about to launch a campaign for improved wages and conditions and we anticipate the mayor and the government will support us completely."

NEWSFLASH:

Giant Zucchini seems to have put the ghosts of the last qualifying behind them with a 2-1 home win over 12 ranked Oglethorpia. The 33rd ranked ex-giants pulled off a convincing performance, with Urk scoring a brace before Bolton pulled one back from an Oglethorpian free kick. Urk scored his first in 38 minutes after an incisive pass from Kerrnigit found an in-rushing Urk in the box and his first touch eluded Hernandez, hitting the inside of the far post, rebounding into the goal. He fired again in the second half, Phoot with a pacy run down the left flank in the 51st minute, out-running Markey before slipping a diagonal pass across the box before Urk smashed in the final ball from just outside the penalty box. Bolton capped off the scoring in the 79th minute with a brilliantly taken free kick from just outside the penalty box which curled beyond the reach of Oog into the far corner, hitting the post before landing in goal. Head coach Mr Hurr, "I am very happy with this win. It is certainly a good start for our qualifying campaign to defeat the top seed. Now all we need to do is to maintain this. Our inconsistancy was the cause of our disaster the last time round. We must not repeat it again."

Ravenspire
31-08-2003, 10:09
KM: ...the chase ended only after he had run out of doughnuts. And in sports news, it's time for another World Cup. As you may recall, Ravenspire's performance in the last Cup was plagued by problems, and, for the first time ever, the team failed to make it through the qualifiers. The question on the fans' minds is, was that a fluke, or a sign that the team once rated the best defense in the league had lost its touch? Here with me for commentary is Michael Black. Mike?

MB: Thank you, Kath. Personally, I feel -- and I don't need to tell you that I'm not alone in this -- that the team's unusual decision to maintain the same roster as it had in the previous Cup was partly responsible. Surely there must have been other players out there who could have handled the Cup better than the aging team we'd fielded. It was bad management, but even the firing of the manager midway through didn't save them. It was just too late.

KM: This time around, nearly half the squad is new. Isn't that a risk, itself?

MB: In a sense. We won't know until a couple of games in just how well these players can work together. The old team were comfortable with each other, maybe too comfortable. The new team might have the opposite problem. On the other hand, the new players might just have a surprise or two for those teams that have faced us before.

KM: Speaking of surprises, I see Zhen Sui-Ling is still on the team's roster. She'd said last time that she would see another Cup, but given her rumored health problems and her age, the speculation was that she'd retire, possibly becoming the team's newest manager.

MB: Sui-Ling is the grand dame of Ravenspire football, Kath, but you do have to wonder. She was clearly not at her peak in the previous Cup, and while she's still a sentimental favorite, she may not be the best objective choice for the slot. I will say, though, she performed admirably in today's game.

KM: That game was against Tanah Burung, the high seed in Ravenspire's group, and the only other ranked team. The two have met before; in their last game, Ravenspire lost by a single goal, 1-0.

MB: As the first game of the Cup, it can be very important psychologically; a big loss or win could have big effects on morale. As it turned out, though, neither happened. In a match between two teams noted for their strong defense, what the fans saw was both sides abandoning that traditional focus to fight aggressively.

KM: The Ravens have been training on offense, since they're traditionally relatively weak in that area, and it seems the Crocodiles decided to take a similar approach. What we had was a frenzied, high-energy game, with possession of the ball changing rapidly. On screen, we've got a clip of an impressive breakaway run by Crocodile captain Rosa Bibere.

MB: And here's a shot of Kaede Kitsuki scoring Ravenspire's first goal of the qualifiers. The foxgirl has come a long way since she joined the team, and she and her fiancee and fellow striker Amara Akizuki now anchor Ravenspire's offense.

KM: The other goal was scored by Sui-Ling herself, a precise shot into the upper right corner of the net, as we're showing now.

MB: That one recalls her younger days, when she and the Ravens were new on the international scene. You can see the grace and skill she has. Unfortunately, you can also see how tired she looks afterward. This was 75 minutes into a very strenuous game, and she may not have the stamina to keep up with those, any more.

KM: Do you think she'll make it through the Cup?

MB: I hope so, Kath, but I think that this one is her swan song, either way.

KM: And what are the implications of the draw for Ravenspire?

MB: Our boys and girls will have to rack up a few wins to take their place at the top of the chart, but this is a positive sign for them. I don't think last Cup's team would have been able to hold the new Crocs to a draw, and the team seemed to be coming together pretty well. It's the next few matches that will be the proving grounds.

KM: We'll be bringing you those matches as they occur. Right now, though, a look at the Fal Dara Decathlon...

Kathryn Malley and Michael Black, reporting for RNN

(OOC: Belmore, you might want to doublecheck those tables... a couple of your scores are off. I noticed mainly because of my game -- Tanah Burung and I tied 2-2, not 1-1, so we should each have one more for and one more against.)

Kanel Chronicle

To start this article of on a good note I'd like to note that coach Gregors starting lineup seems to be not as weak on the defence as we'd anticipated. Unfortunately the offence was seriously lacking instead. The forwards, Carl-Henrik Felth, and Per-Ola Rickardsson played as if they were on drugs. I can't even count all the fumbles and missed passes that the made before they were replaced in during the half time break.

Ulf Landegren, and Mikael Persson played significantly better, but it was clear that they did not have the experience for this kind of match. Their game was defensive and it looked almost as if they were waiting for the Aquilla defence to make the first moves. In the light of this the final score of one nil for Aquilla is not surprising. The Aquillan team kept control of the ball for most of the game, clocking in an astounding 67 minutes of control. Even though Daniel Folsson, Tor Stalskalle, Roger Fontanell made their best match this year a number of attacks slipped by them, and in the 34:th minute of the second period the Aquillan left forward could lob a high ball over the head of Stefan Sjöberg that finished the game.

We salute the Aquillan team, and hope that coach Gregor has an ace up his sleeve for the next match

[OOC: full report tomorrow]
Bedistan

From the Graceville Journal:

Another Day, Another Loss for Lions

RHAKEN KULL (BNN) -- The Bedistan Lions football team today endured another disappointing loss, this time in Rhaken Kull.

The game was very offense-oriented. There were many shots on goal by both sides. Rhaken Kull opened the scoring on a corner kick in the 17th minute. Shortly afterward, a foul by a Rhaken Kull midfielder causing minor injury to forward Johnny Lewis resulted in a penalty kick. Barber took it and buried it to even the score. Jeff Whitehurst added a goal of his own in the 39th, making the score 2-1 Bedistan at the half.

Unfortunately, our scoring stopped there while the home team's did not. Substitute goalkeeper Chuck Mitchell allowed two opposing goals in the second half, resulting in a 3-2 victory for Rhaken Kull.

The offensive style of the game resulted in a number of injuries. Lewis is expected to be out for the next match as a result of his injury; Adam Eckerley will take his place there. Midfielder Ken Sierra hurt his leg late in the game, giving newcomer Phil Rivera a chance to play in his place. 22-year-old Carla Hill is scheduled to replace Ken Sierra for the next 2-3 games. Finally, starting goalkeeper Olivia Bream was complaining about stomach cramps at halftime, which prompted her replacement by Mitchell. It is unknown at this time whether Bream will play in the next match.

Final score:
Rhaken Kull 3
Bedistan 2 (Barber 22, Whitehurst 39)

One Red Dot Jumps to Top 3

One Red Dot rose from its 5th place position to 3rd place after defeating 51st seed Aquilla in a easy match. The Dottians secured a lead in the 15th minute and kept in the lead throughout the whole match. Aquilla saw no chance in breaking the defence line and scored no goals at all.

Terrance STONE, Francis DURSLEY and Nagasen HASHIEI each scored one goal, giving Aquilla a lost to add to their record books.

STONE, as aggressive as he always is, quickily cut the chase and scored the first goal with ease. This was followed by HASHIEI making another goal from the left after a valuable assist from Warren BERING in the 40th minute. The match went on monotonously for a while before both sides came on full force. But the Dottians willpower consumed the Aquillans and DURSLEY scored the final goal at the 82nd minute.

Head Coach Alvin Ker said that he is quite happy with the performance of the team so far and he does not blame them for the lost against the Dark Outcastians as he had earlier underestimated their power and left a few loopholes for them to take advantage of.

One Red Dot will now play against the nation of Grand master Mark, hoping to win it and secure the 2nd place in the table.
Tanah Burung

DAILY CROCODILE

The day dawned bright and full of hope. The national holiday Hari Ukun Rasikan, Self-Determiantion Day, was to be marked by a football game at Matebian Stadium against visiting Trafari. Hari Ukun Rasikan marks the date of a national referendum during the colonial days organized by the pro-independence movement. More than 98% of the population voted that day for an independent Tanah Burung, a vote that was punished by the colonialists with an outpouring of violence. It took years of war for the country to win its freedom. But every August 30, the people remember their referendum and the march to self-determination.

In Matebian, stronghold of the revolution, festivities were opened by the people's representative for territorial defence and sports, Mau Kiri Rai, one of the last surviving guerilla fighters. A joyous and promising note was set by the news that Gilmeecia, coached by former Crocodiles goalkeeper Bi Kikere, had managed to score a goal on their trip to Nonexistentcitygrad. Scientists have theorized that Gilmeecians are products of a different time line, in which early hominids never quite evolved completely. "It's a wonder they can even identify a football, let alone put one into the other team's net," said Robert Sawyer of the Faculty of Anthropology at Hugo University. "Full marks to Coach Kikere and whichever Cro-Magnon got the goal."

But the team most on people's minds was Trafari, the unranked visitors. Nothing less than a win would do on this high holiday. Matebian Stadium was packed to the rafters, and hundreds more watched from platforms suspended from hot-air balloons above the stadium. "We shall ... well, we shall overcome them," said coach Guntur Ruak. "We shall attack and attack, as the fighters of old attacked without ceasing until victory was ours."

And attack was the word of the day for the Crocs. Keeper Simon da Gama faced no serious chances as the defence held Trafari back. Playing a disciplined territorial style, Crocodiles poured on the pressure and sent long balls forward. Desptie a few offside calls, these seemed to confound the Trafari defenders and led to three goals. Rosa Bibere drew first blood at the 11-minute mark, and her team never looked back. David Cavaco added a second goal just before half-time, and Wim van Esterik scored the third off a corner by Canabe Livit.

The group is now led by Freedom Country. With a convincing win, Ravenspire kept pace with the Crocodiles to share second spot on four points. Tanah Burung's next match is against a more challenging opponent in Nikea, and the result will be crucial for both sides.

Final result:
Tanah Burung 3 Trafari 0
(Bibere 11, Cavaco 45, van Esterik 75)

A HNN reporter runs out with his microphone as Haraki Hawks Forward Mike Zendar came off the field at the end of the game, towelling off his neck. "Mr. Zendar!" the reporter shouted. "How do you feel about your victory?"

Zendar smiled, but he was out of breath, having just cored the winning goal in the last two minutes of the game, gaining himself a hat trick, with all three of the Hawks' goals. "Well, uh, I'm pretty psyched. This's my second World Cup, so I'm just hoping we can make it through. Even just to get through the qualifying rounds would be an honour for me. Just being on this team's an honour, o, yeah, uh, I'm pretty happy."

He grinned as the reporter carried on. "I understand that you just got your first and only hat trick in all your yhears of playing. How do you feel to have it be in the second game of World Cup Seven?"

Zendar chuckled, stll towelling off. "Well, I'm really happy. I mean, it was tiring. I was on for most of the game, and it looked like we were losing two nothing for the first half, but then, I mean, Kyle [Jys, the Hawks' leader] just put my shift on and said in my ear, 'Well, Mike, you just do your thing.'" He grinned at the memory. "And then I did, and I scored all the goals, so then we won."

"How do you feel about being included in the World Cup two years in a row?"

"I'm, uh, really honoured, because I didn't even think I was very good, and then Kyle just came up to me last year as I played for the Atherlon [Fire]Flies, [The Atherlon professional soccer team] at the end of a game where whe saw me strut my stuff, and he was just like, 'Well, Mr. Zendar, I'm looking for people to play for the World Cup 6 team. How'd you like to join in?'. I told ihm it'd be, uh, an honour, and before I knew it Iwas playing in WC6."

"I understand you're the new rising sports figure in the Haraki sports scene. How do you feel about this?"

"Well, uh," Mike replied with a sheepish grin. "Nobody told me this! Who says so? Never mind, never mind. Well, uh, I mean, I think it's pretty cool, I'm really amazed we're doing this well."

"Well you have got years and years in the World Cup behind your team. Isn't that true?"

"Yeah, mmm, the Hawks've been going ever since World Cup Four."

"Thank you for your time, Mr. Zendar."

The reporter left.

13: Unlucky For Some

After Spaam's shock 5 -1 drubbing my Dennisov (we hatessss them), the irony of being in Group 13 became all to obvious. The additional fact that this group is now perhaps the second closest is bringing back not-so-fond memories of World Cups past. Though Spaam is the 3rd best Footballing nation in the World, and second seed at this Cup, they are fighting an uphill battle to make it through. Luckily, the young Spaam side (only 5 players have played in a World Cup previously) found some of the form that served them so well in last years World Cup with a 3 nil win against Ribenia.
Feisty teenager Méla Sëhelin scored the first goal of the match after 25 minutes thanks to a quick pass from number 6 Teinwë. Not to be outdone, her elder by a mere week Rohir Dorth headed Spaam's second in with a cross also from Teinwë, just 5 minutes later. After that Spaam kept control of the match, their third goal coming in the 60th minute with a penalty kick from the utility player Lossë. Coach Yatan said after the match "I'm very happy with the result. My kids have finally found their footing. Now we just want to keep this form, and get through to the main round."
Spaam is still only 4th in the group, but are only one point behind the top 3. With games against newcomers Jacktazea and Crimina, and 56th ranked Chrisotfi, Spaam have all the chances in the world to finish in the top two. Hopefully they will make sure of that.

Belmore win against 95th Seed
Hello and welcome to live coverage from Dyelli Beybi as The Belmore Family take on Dyelli Beybi in what looks to be a classic match. Both teams will be desperate for a win. TBF will be really hungry after their loss to Quohog but Dyelli Beybi will really want to capitilise on their 3-1 win against Fart Wars last month. So over to Alex and Simon who will be covering the match.

Simon:Yes thankyou, the teams are lined up now. And as the Dyelli Beybi anthem plays almost the whole crowd are on there feet. You can really see how partiotic this nation is.*Dyelli Beybi national anthem plays, a huge roar comes up at the end*. And now our most glorius anthem is to be played*Chuckles can be heard round the stadium as The Barney Song is played*

Alex:So, lets get started. The teams seperate into different sides.

OOC:When commenting, I use their first names as all of our players surnames are Belmore.
1st minute
Alex:Dyelli Beybi are to kick off. [number 8] is charging forwards now. back to [number 7]. Charges down the left wing. Crossed in it's met [number 9]'s head and into the bottom right hand corner of the goal. What a stormer. After only 42 seconds. Dyelli Beybi have shown how good they really can be against good teams. It absolutly flew past William. What a goal. What talent.

Simon:Let's have a look at that goal again...
As [number 7] got deep down the left wing. He put in an almost perfect cross which all [number 9] had to do was touch it and it just went perfectly.

8th minute
Alex:Alan on the corner of the box now. He goes straight for goal. It's flying toward the top left hand corner. Oh what a save. [The Goalkeeper] nudges it over the bar. That'll be a corner for us. But what a shot and an even better save.

15th minute
Simon:Alan's got a free kick on the edge of the box. Runs up. Nope, he's hit it straight into the keepers hands. [The Goalkeeper] has booted right out to [number 10] on the halfway line. He's unmarked he's free. William has had to come to him. It's an easy chip for [number 10] straight into the goal.

Alex: Let's look at that goal again

Simon:Yes, despite the ease of his task [number 10] did make an amazing chip over William, showing the real class of this team.

32nd minute
Alex:Oh no, there on the attack agaon into the penalty box. Jake has come in with a great tackle on....what? the ref is pointing to the spot. This is outrageous. He is showing Jake a yellow card. Laurence has come over to argue.

Laurence Belmore:Zu are zaying dat vat vas not in? Du is maad.

Ref:It was a two-footed tackle. He didn't get the ball and that equals a penalty.

Laurence Belmore:Du isst die vorst wefererre I hab ever seen!

Ref:Thankyou

Simon:And the ref is showing Laurence a yellow card. How ridiculous. How did he become a level one ref. Ridiculous.

Alex:Anyway [number 10] strides up to the ball, leans back. Oh, he's hit it over the bar. Relife for us. Dissapointment for him.

45th minute
[number 8] is through on goal. Jake is the last man can they go 3-0 up? Simon:No.. Jake has gone in from the back, that's a red card offence. What a shame. What a dreadful shame. He's off. Belmore are don to 10 men
*HALF TIME*

54th Minute
Alex:Alan, passed 1 man, passed the next, 1 on one with the gollie. What a shot. What a glorious shot. We've 1 back boys. What a Goal Alan. What a brilliant goal. It couldn't have come at a better time he really is a great player. The whole team is overjoyed. It really sums up the team that there greatest player of all time, Alan Belmore scored there first goal in World Cup 5, World Cup 6 and now World Cup 7.

57th Minute
Alex:Fred is flying down the right wing. He's on the edge of the box. [Number 8] is right next to him but he pulls of a low cross. Straight onto the boot of Alan. It's in!!! It has flown into the top left corner of the goal. We've equalised only minutes after the first it's Belmore 2 Dyelli Beybi 2. What a great triumph for us. How brilliant. Were on for at least a point now.

75th minute
Simon:It's really slowing down now. Both teams are accepting the draw.

92nd minute
Alex:Yes, Alan looks like having the last touch of this game, a good 2-2 draw will boot them up the table a bit Aan looks as if he's having a last gasp attempt. Whacks it from the half-way line...And it's over the keeper. It's on its way in it's 3-2 Belmore. Alan Belmore scores an immense hatrick. Belmore get the win. Yesssss.......We've done.....yyyyeeesssss.

Final Score
Dyelli Beybi 2-3 The Belmore Family

<<The television screen in Nikean homes is blessed with scenes of various football scenes, goals being scored, great saves, all faded into national flags of various countries. The words "Yentereleth Terestbeki" (Nikean for 'World Cup Report') appear at the end of the series of scenes

<<Two men are seated at a modern desk, while a wall with images of football players in various plays is behind them, these images are faded into the red of the wall. Plasma flat-screen are behind both men as they are seated at either end of the table which is shaped like the top of a trapezoid, only straightened out.>>

Istertel: Welcome once again to the World Cup Report. I'm Isterin Limentel along with Rakemin Aseriuene, and today was a kind of disappointing day for our team.

Aseriuene: Yes it was, after such a brilliant performance in their last match, Nikea failed to get a victory on the road at Freedom Country.

Istertel: Yes, well, let's take a look at the highlights.

<<The same background that is shown on the wall now replaces the entire screen, while "Nikea v. Freedom Country" slides onto the screen.

Various shots of Nikean and Freedom Country players warming up are shown.>>

Istertel: Nikea here on the road at Freedom Country. Both teams were at the top of the table after the first day, so this match would produce the group leader after 2 of 10 matches. Nikea had plenty of chances, and converted early.

Aseriuene: Yes, nice little play by another Istertel, this time Jilin Istertel, to drop it back to Tinuvin Mortethel, who found the back of the net from 15 yards.

Istertel: Nikea took the lead into half time, until things broke apart in the back.

Aseriuene: As we see here in the 61st minute, a terrible defending play by Jentel on the right side, that left the Freedom Country forward wide open to put one behind a helpless Renteritel, making it a 1-1 game.

Istertel: More trouble in the 70th minute when again, Anain Jentel causes more difficulties at the back.

Aseriuene: Yes, as you can see, a terrible foul in the box, and we all know that that means a penalty.

Istertel: And the Freedom Country player makes no mistake putting the ball in the back of the net.

Aseriuene: And Terestel on the bench looks none too happy at his right back. We may see a change in the team's next match.

Istertel: Nikea couldn't get another goal, so the match ended in a 2-1 defeat for the visitors.

<<The following replaces match highlights on the screen:
[code:1:37c0f8c9c3]
Nikea 1 (Mortethel 22)
@
Freedom Country 2 (<player> 61, <player> 70 PK)
[/code:1:37c0f8c9c3]

It then returns to the two commentators.>>

Istertel: Nikea's next match is against the 20th ranked team in the world, the Crocs from Tanah Burung. Any thoughts on how that one will go?

Aseriuene: As much as I hate to admit it, the losing ways will most likely continue, which will probably disappoint the soldout crowd at Solarin Stadium. Nikea has shown promise, except in the back, but the Crocs are a very strong side, and have just come off a 3-0 thrashing of Trafari. The fans shouldn't be too disappointed however, since they should see some quality football from both sides.

Istertel: It's a special match, as it falls on a holiday, so the stands are sure to be packed. We'll be back following the next match, so until then, have a great night.

Well, we got gubbed by Quahog 3-0 at home. It was only to be expected. It would have taken a miracle to pull off even a draw against the No.1 seeds. Upsets, it seems, are not in our team.

Team for our drubbing:

Devopoulous, Tommy (GK)
McMenamin, Harry (DL)
Lennison, Kenny (DC) (yellow card, foul, (19).)
Levinson, Jerry (DC)
McDonald, Kevin (DR)
Ferguson, George (ML) (substituted for Watt, James (72).)
Corbett, Harry (MC) (substituted for Anderson, Lyle (64).)
Dickinson, Scott (MC) (yellow card, foul, (79).)
Kincaid, Fred (MR)
Quattro, Andy (SC) (substituted for Berlovski, Dan (35).)
Smith, Jamie (SC)

Quote from James Mackenzie, coach: "We were simply outclassed. Quahog are by far the better team, and this game serves to highlight our weaknesses and where we could do better. All three goals were absolute stunners, and we did well to hold them off to 3-0. A few teams have lost by more."

Welcome to BWCC.

Hanson: Welcome again to Busby's World Cup Corner. Today with me are my usual guests Billy Clark and Thomas Simpsons. In Busby's second world cup match they have beaten Bardai 2-0. What do you think?

Billy: Well that is what Busby can do with a bit of confidence. After their defeat at the hands of Kingsford, i think that the team would of wanted to show the countries of the world what they can do, and they have done it in this match.

Tom: I agree, they had something to prove and they did it.

Hanson: Well Shephard got the both of the goals. What do you think of that?

Tom: As we said before he is a very capable young player, with his strength and speed he is very good, and i think that that showed in this match.

Hanson: Ok well here are the two goals.

(Screen shows Shephard running at the defense, passing to Garath Phillips then passing it back to Shephard to score. Shows Shephard again run at the defence and pass two players to place the ball into the back of the net.)

Hanson: Well that is quality play.

Billy: Yes it is but it is the defence that needs to be sorted out.

(Screen shows a Bardai player run pass the defence, the keeper Mountain smothers the ball and shouts at the defence for letting him through.)

Billy: As you can see the defence was left napping, Eckard the more experianced player cannot to it alone. We know they are young and but they need to cut down on runs like these and of course the keeper mad at the defence as he should be.

Hanson: Well thanks for watching. We will be back soon.

Goodnight.

(Show finishes with highlights of the match.)

Brittanians Back On Track

A beleagured LordSquall team felt the wrath of Brittanian fury today as they were comprehensivley defeated 3-0 in a stunning display of gritty determination.

Andrew Zurich, still suffering from damaged Knee Ligaments sat the encounter out, and Kahno, whose yellow card against the Flatfoots took him over the disciplinary barrier also misses the game.

With both David Winter and Derek Lionel passing late fitness tests, the pair will played together up front.

Brittania lined up 4-4-2.

--------------------------------Reeves------------------------------

Jones------------O'Hanrahan----------Cannon---------------Stacey

Strazt---------------Junnon----------McHilton--------------Simmons

----------------------Winter-------Lionel---------------------------

Brittania pressed early on, forcing four succesive corners within seven minutes of the start. A neat one two at the edge of the penalty box saw Lionel put Brittania 1-0 up on ten minutes, only for the linesman to call a fine line and judge it offisde, saving the opposition the uncertainity of a deficit.

Squall packed the Midfield, at times deploying 3-5-2 and winning a good deal of the possession from their more traditiional opponents. Cannon and O'Hanrahan were however in fine form, and the combined partnership saw off at least two great chances for Squall to take the lead, clearing the line and heading out of play.

Brittania deservedly took the lead on twenty minutes. A great ball from Jones found Strazt, who unchallenged swung in a beautiful cross that was weakly punched away by the Squall 'Keeper, but pounced apon by Winters, who struck a hellacious volley to send the ball scything into the back of the net past a static Goalkeeper.

Squall pushed for an equaliser, but never quite found the form that had seen them threaten so early on. Brittanian penalty appeals were turned down when referee H Rowkothbem denied what seemed like a clear hand ball by a Squall Defender within the box.

Brittania duly added a second with only three seconds of the first half remaining. A slack clearance from the Squall defence was picked up twenty six yards from goal by McHilton, who stunned the stadium with an absolutley brilliant strike from almost twenty five yards out. The ball flew through the air, swerving and dipping past the desperate keeper of Squall and slamming into the net.

HT Score

Europa Brittania 2 LordSquall 0
Winter 20 McHilton 47

The seond half picked up from where the first had left off. Where Smith was expected to play a more relaxed formation, and to make subsitutions, he continued to play both Winter & Lionel, in the hope of pushing their fitness up in the event Zurich does not recover soon.

Squall wasted a half chance on sixty minutes, when a neat long ball caught Cannon square, but the shot was screwed wide with only Reeves to beat.

Brittanian pressure was mounting, and a third goal looming. It came on seventy three minutes, when the referee caught another blatant hand ball within the box, and this time did not hesitate to award a spot kick.

Though in the absence of Zurich McHilton was the established penalty taker, he defaulted to young Lionel, who was eager to score his first goal of the campaign.

Lionel obliged with a feirce shot that was buried just inside the left hand post, giving the Squal keeper no chance.

The game ended with Brittania pressing for a fourth, but found the Opposition Keeper far more difficult to beat. Saving at the feet of Winter, and palming away a stinging Simmons Volley.

Gilmeecia
01-09-2003, 04:32
Ladies and gentlemen, the president of the Oppressed peoples of Gilmeecia.

President Louis Gilsterson: My fellow Gilmeecians, members of the home and away press, it is with humble outrage that I address you tonight. According to foreign press reports, some crazy half-assed "sociologists" and "anthropologists" in Tanah Burung are claiming that Gilmeecians are less evolved than people in other countries. To which I say: Why don't you come over here and say that? Maybe I'll just kick your four-eyed pencil-necked asses! And then after releasing some President-Grade whoop-ass on you, we'll see how you like climbing over that barbed-wire fence into Loro Sae naked!

That's what I have to say to those so-called freakin' "academics" from Tanah Burung. Now let's hear from someone from Tanah Burung that I actually like, the lovely and talented Bi Kikere.

Coach Bi Kikere: Thank you, Mr. President. There's a lot of anger in this room being directed at Tanah Burung right now. I have to say, it's nice to feel united with the Gilmeecians on something for a change. I've made no secret of the fact that I've taken on the challenge of coaching the Kickfooters because I want to show up the short-sighted fools who terminated my position with the Crocodiles. And these recent comments serve only to reinforce my resolve.

Now, I'd like to be standing here telling you that we made strides following the humiliating loss to Antaeus Rising, but I can't really do that. There would be no point, since you all saw the game and you know that we didn't manage a single shot on goal today. Everybody's seen the replays showing Nonexistentdefenderthree accidentally kicking the ball into his own goal while taunting Wrench Cargill, who was too confused to move. So what were the highlights on the day? Well, I've made a list because I was worried I'd forget them:

One: Gilmooster stopped four shots, two of them intentionally and two apparently through freak luck. There was the one in the first period when he fell down and the ball just sort of ricocheted off his face, and there was the one in the second period when he tripped over the ball and through luck sent it away from, rather than into, the net. But there were two genuine saves. So that's something.

Two: Bix Gilderbecke kicked the ball a total of three times. That's a definite improvement from the first match, when he was running from the ball. I mean, at least in the first match he was running, which is better than he'd managed in practices. So to see him actually put a foot on the ball, intentionally, was very nice. Even if he kicked it right to members of the other team every time.

Three: Guildenstern and Krantzengil showed excellent teamwork today. As opposed to the first match, when they spent most of the game punching each other in the arm. I'm really glad to see them cooperating. Although I'd prefer that they weren't punching their opponents in the arm; Nonexistentcitygrad didn't need those two extra goals on the penalty kicks. But at least Guildenstern and Krantzengil only got yellow cards. If we'd lost both of them, we'd have been pretty screwed. Considering there are no reserves.

That's all I've got. I'll answeer a few questions if you people keep it relevant. You.

GG: Gillian Gilquest, Gilmeecia de la Mode. Coach, How did the stadium in nonexistentictygrad compare to our own beautiful new National Stadium?

Coach Kikere: It was drab. All of Nonexistentcitygrad was drab. I can see why they say it doesn't exist.

GG: Does it exist, Coach?

Coach Kikere: Obviously, it exists. How could we have gone there and played a football game if it didn't? They even have an airport. Which is more than I can say for Gilmeecia. It irks me a little having to fly into Loro Sae, let me tell you.

GG: Perhaps someone could build an airport on the site of the old National Forest.

Coach Kikere: Not that it's any of my business or has anything to do with football, but why would you want to do that? Who would fly to Gilmeecia even if you had an airport?

GG: We could have a tourism industry...

Pres: What's so funny, Coach? What's she laughing at? Coach? Somebody get her a glass of water, I think she's hysterical.

Coach Kikere: No, no, that's okay. I've got it under control. Oh, man. Tourism in Gilmeecia. That's a good one. Okay, someone else ask a question. You.

SS: Spiff Spoofle, Gilmeecia Mail and Press. What do you have to say about this "Cro-mignon" debacle, Coach?

Coach Kikere: That'd be "Cro-Magnon," Spiff. And no comment.

SS: But you don't think Gilmeecians are stupid, do you?

Coach Kikere: Well, you all seem to be able to read and write okay. And you've mastered napalm technology.

SS: So you think we're pretty smart?

Coach Kikere: Does my approval mean a lot to your sense of national well-being?

SS: Everybody loves you, Coach.

Coach Kikere: Oh. Well, I'm touched. As are many Gilmeecians, from what I've seen.

Pres: Okay, I'm not sure I like the way this is heading. I mean, the only person all of you are supposed to love is me. And His Oneness, of course. So I'm going to cut this thing off at the knees before it gets out of hand. No more questions.

Liverpool England 4 (Dussis 17th, 31st, 39th, Cannon 48th Penalty)

The crowd watching the game live in front of Government House in the City Centre of Liverpool (CCL), the capital of Liverpool England, went crazy when Paul Oliver Dussis, 17, son of Orean United chairman Frank, scored his third goal to earn the first-time seeded nation (seeded 41st) their first win of the qualifying campaign. Caddy Christopher Cannon rounded off the wonderful thrashing of Pavesia with a 48th minute penalty after Dussis was pulled down in the box.
National manager Jim Whites, who has had control of the national team since World Cup Six, was clearly pleased after the match. This is what he told Liverpool England International News Network (LEINN) after the game. "Well obviously we're pleased, after the loss to Runaway Moose in the first game, we do feel that we deserve these three points... Paul [Oliver Dussis] played very well today, a seventeen year old scoring a hat-trick in [World Cup] Qualifying.... quite remarkable. Also Caddy Christopher [Cannon], he's had two penalty chances already and converted both, of course, the first against the runaways." When asked about Flip Dog's sending off and subsequent three-game ban in the first match, he replied, "Well FD did go in a little [bit] hard on one of the runaways, giving away a penalty... I'm sure the red card was for the [professional] last man foul, along with it the one-match ban. The FA has decided that we should not appeal against the additional two games which has put the runaway out for what, two weeks?"
The coach, who is also manager of Schimpol Bulldogs in Liverpool England, also had this to say to the team's upcoming opponents. "You'd better watch out, we're coming [at you] with full force!"

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE GHOST OF AL QUDS! ITS OUT TO GET US ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!

And sorry, I just had to include this....

A legend was born the day Errinundera drew 1 all with the world's number one side (with apologies to A B Paterson).

It was somewhere up the country in a land of tree and stream,
That they formed an institution: the Errinundera football team.
They were long and wiry natives of the rugged forest deep,
And there was no known obstacle that this young side couldn't leap;
But their style of playing football was irregular and rash -
They had mighty little science, but a mighty lot of dash:
And they ran like mountain brumbies that were muscular and strong,
Though their manners were quite unpolished, and their World Cup tale not long.
And they used to train like ponies wheeling cattle in the scrub:
They were demons, were the members of the mighty football club.

It was in another country, in a city's smoke and steam,
That a football side existed, called the Dennisov football team.
As a social institution 'twas a marvellous success,
For the members were distinguished by exclusiveness and dress.
They had natty little cars that were nice, and smooth, and sleek,
For their cultivated owners only rode 'em once a week.
So they upped to Tanah Burung in pursuit of sport and fame,
For they meant to show the Errinundrians how they ought to play the game;
And they took their valets with them - just to give their boots a gleam
Ere they started operations on the Errinundera football team.

Now my readers can imagine how the contest ebbed and flowed,
When the Errinundra team got going it was time to clear the road;
And the game was so terrific that ere half the time was gone
A spectator's leg was broken - just from merely looking on.
For they waddied one another till the plain was strewn with dead,
While the score was kept so even that they neither got ahead.
And the Dennisov captain, when he tumbled off to die,
Was the last surviving player - so the game was called a tie.

Then the wondrous handesydek raised her slowly from the ground,
Though her wounds were mostly mortal, yet she fiercely gazed around;
There was no one to oppose her - all the rest were in a trance,
So she scrambled on her feet for her last expiring chance,
For she meant to make an effort to get victory to her side;
So she struck at goal - and missed it - then she tumbled off and died.

By the old Rodger River, where the breezes shake the grass,
There's a row of little gravestones that the stockmen never pass,
For they bear a crude inscription saying, "Stranger, drop a tear,
For the Dennisov players and the Errinundera team lie here."
And on misty moonlit evenings, while the dingoes howl around,
You can see their shadows flitting down that phantom football ground;
You can hear the loud collisions as the flying players meet,
And the sound of ball on boot, and the rush of players' feet,
Till the terrified spectator starts as if awakened from a dream -
He's been haunted by the spectres of that Errinundera football team.

FANNY MOO COACH ORDERED TO DROP HERSELF - DROPS REPORTER INSTEAD
The Fanny Moo Football Club committee last night made it clear to team coach sandrab that she no longer had a playing future with the club. "We sincerely want her to continue as coach," said club convenor, extrica, "but, the truth is, she's past it as a player. She's just too old and too slow. She has been the backbone of the side for over ten years and given us loyal service but now we all have to accept that, as a player, she is a liability." Our reporter tried to get sandrab's response but was punched out. We will get the full story once the pins have been removed from his jaw.

FOREIGN INDUSTRIALISTS ARRIVE TO HELP STOCK NEW FACTORY
International recognition of the Ploser Pinnacle brand of microfibre sports gear has leapt as a result of the company's sponsorship of WC7, resulting in skyrocketing demand for the products. The company's major factory for the Pinnacle range is right here in Fanny Moo and is being expanded to cope. Unfortunately Ploser Ltd is not able to source sufficient microfibre locally so they have recently entered into partnership with Quohog multinational company, Maw Ltd, who will provide the raw product.

Errinundera's Protector of Trade, invidio, was delighted by the development. "The relationship between Errinundera and Quohog has been an embarrassment to say the least. We would dearly love to mend the bridges between our nations and we hope this will be the first plank in place." The leader of the Maw Ltd delegation, Mar Baxxy, in Fanny Moo yesterday to finalize a workplace agreement, was equally enthusiastic. "This is a win-win situation for both nations. Your enterprising company, Ploser Ltd, will expand their production while Maw has come up with an innovative way to produce microfibre very inexpensively. This World Cup is turning out to be lucrative for all of us." After staying overnight to watch the World Cup telecast this morning, he left for further talks with the trade protector in the capital.

A frothing at the mouth union leader, sharonb, saw it all quite differently. "I can't believe what the Protector of Trade has done. Just this afternoon he's passed regulations cutting the Fanny Moo shoemakers' wages by 3 per cent! This sort of thing doesn't happen in Errinundera. What's going on? Mark my word, this is going to end very badly."

MORE JOY FOR FOOTBALL TOURISTS
Once again our reporter caught up with local football star, pomaderrisa, this time on tour in Sliponia. It seems she found the reception here just as rewarding as Europa Brittania.

"This country is like Errinundera but subtly different, nevertheless. They have the same freedom we have to shoot their mouths off and there's a brilliant education and welfare system. But they take everything so seriously. There's a huge army - goodness knows what for - and the government red tape is suffocating. Mind you, our bureaucracy is out of control too. The wilderness areas are reputed to be beautiful but we couldn't afford to pay the admission fees. And sadly they have a despised foreign underclass that lives in slums and is forced to do the menial work."

"As in Europa Brittania we were treated royally. If you don't mind earnest love-making the men here are quite cute."

NATIONAL TEAM CONTINUES TO WIN ON THE ROAD
Errinundera continued their winning way with a two-nil victory against Sliponia. The three game road trip is turning out to be quite a romp. longipesp opened her account in the qualifying series with a typical freakish goal in the 18th minute after adealbata had sent a looping pass from close to the corner into the box. With firset, antarcticad and longipesp all tearing in to accept, a collision was inevitable. firset and antarcticad hit first with the ball bouncing off firset's head and ballooning up. At full speed longipesp also collided with the pair but somehow managed to maintain her balance and kick the ball whilst upside down in mid air.

Despite concussion to firset, who will miss the next game, the frightening scenario turned out for the best with the ball passing by the dumbfounded defenders into the net. Coach, fionar, thought the goal was reminiscent of great gabriellen. "The difference is that gabriellen had the nous to get to the ball but once she threw herself at it she didn't have a clue what was happening. That's why she got so many injuries. Well, apart from all the pre-game sex with filthyl, anyway. longipesp, on he other hand, is able to maintain her composure no matter how topsy-turvy her situation. She's a bit like a cat in that regard - she knows which way is up at all times." longipesp didn't know what to make of that last comparison. "I've never seen a cat, so I wouldn't know. I mean, how can you have cats if you can't have cat food in Errinundera?"

Star striker, antarcticad, scored another goal in the 39th minute from a penalty after he was crudely tackled by a pursuing defender. With the score 2 nil at half-time, it seemed that a big defeat for the home team was at hand. To their credit, the Sliponians played an enthusiastic and rugged second half. After the whistle the two teams did a slow lap of the ground together, spending time talking to the spectators and signing autographs. A shiny-headed antarcticad was chuffed by the Sliponian response. "Their captain told me they considered it a real honour to have the world number 3 team visiting their county. In some countries the fans would murder you if they could. Not these blokes. Most of them were worried that my brain may have been affected by battery acid. When the team visits Errinundera we'll make sure they have a wild time."

REFUGEE DIES INEXPLICABLY
Recently settled refugee, marcelm, died in odd circumstances while watching the early morning public broadcast of the match between Errinundera and Sliponia. Local plumber, sarchimedes, is quite bemused by the whole affair. "Me and my family were sitting on the skywalk with our feet hanging over the edge. marcelm was standing behind us. After longipesp's amazing goal I turned around to see his reaction and he wasn't there. Then my mate, ascrew, saw him flat out on the ground below. He must have fallen a good forty metres. We didn't hear or see a thing."

Perhaps.... but the Champions League is still struggling. There isn't much interest in it at the moment. By contrast, a LOT of work and passion has been put into the World Cup.

I'm in both and, simply, WC7 is more important. I'm putting so much effort into WC7 I just don't have time to give NSCL justice.

This was my 400th "official" post. (Some have disappeared. What! Me?)

The Under-Secretary of International Apologies has issued an apology to the people of Gilmeecia for comments made by certain academics. As a token of friendship, some nice woven textiles to decorate the National Stadium have been dispatched.

"Gilmeecians are clearly an evolved, civilized and cultivated people, as seen in the great works of art and literature which we assume they must have produced," he said. "Stands to reason, who doesn't love art and literature? Now Nikea, there's a barbaric country. I shudder to think what it must be like to live there. Nikeans obviously live in ignorance and misery, victims of barcoding and a despotic regime that oppresses them day by day."

An apology to Nikea is expected tomorrow.

Five goal onslaught hails return of Star, Brittania previal once more/

You are Watching EuropaSport, World Cup VII Group Match highlights

Kaze Progressa V Europa Brittania.

=======================================================

Brittania looked to build on the impressive form that saw them overcome LordSquall as they took on Kaze Progressa in their third group match of World Cup Seven.

The biggest news of the match being the return to fitness of Andrew Zurich, who had been struggling with a knee injury since the first match of the campaign.

Brittania sported a line up that remained essentially unchanged, bar the decsion by Head Coach jarvis Smith to Rest David Winter, and allow Derek Lionel to retain his place up front.

Lining up 4-4-2 once more:

--------------------------------Reeves------------------------------

Jones------------O'Hanrahan----------Cannon---------------Stacey

Strazt---------------Junnon----------McHilton--------------Simmons

----------------------Zurich---------Lionel---------------------------

Brittania took to the field in Red and White, resplendid and renewed with the confidence that had served them well in campaigns gone by. A massive Brittanian support turned out to see their team play opponents they knew little about.

It was Kaze that threatened first, The blistering pace of their forwards taking the ball into the Brittanian box with little interaction from the midfield. Only a last ditch slide challenge by the young O'Hanrahan prevented what seemed like a certain goal, again an impressive gut reaction from the eighteen year old centre back.

Brittania's reply came swiftly. Unapposed down the right Strazt was able to make inroads into the Kaze half, before unleashing a vicious shot that was brilliantly parried by the Progressa keeper. McHilton applied the rebound, but saw it smash off the crossbar. When it seemed like a little luck had prevented the loss of a goal, ZURICH was there to nod home from virtually one yard out, and secure a Brittanian lead.

Kaze kept up the momentum, managing another swift push up field. some neat overhead moves from their right winger sent their forward clear on goal, but his shot was palmed over the bar and out for a corner by Reeves.

Brittania duly added a second on twenty two minutes. A Now notorious long ranger from McHilton was saved well, and cleared from the box. Zurich picked up just outside of twenty yards, and took it past three defenders, feigning right, then left, before burying his shot into the net, past the desperate reach of the Progressa keeper, making it 2-0.

Vintage Brittania was on show, and the goals were coming thick and fast. Brilliant solo play from Junon sent Lionel through on goal, who was tackled superbly by the Kaze CB and dispossesd when a goal seemed certain.

However, Brittanan pressure was relentless, and another goal inevitable. A long range pass from Cannon found JUNNON, who sent it wide left, and Simmons, who rather than crossed, cut inside the box, and unleashed an effort that was deflected back into play by a defender. Seizing on the moment Junnon sent a half volley goalward, and the Opposition Keeper, who saw it only at the last second, was able only to watch as it made 3-0 to Brittania.

With Half time approaching, Brittania continued to mount pressure where others would be satisfied to pat out. Continuing to field his strongest team Smith demande more from his team, insisting they had a point to prove to all who watched.

The fourth came only a minute from half time. A careless foul outside the box gifted the Brittanians a free kick. The stadium hushed in anticipation, this was McHilton territory. His reputation as a shooting expert was travelling both far and wide, and an exclamation was about to be added.

The kick was struck, and it curved beautifully to the left, round the defensive wall, and despite the heroic dive of the Keeper, into the net.

McHilton was happy, Brittanans were ecstatic, and it was 4-0.

The team that returned for the second half had only two changes. Both Junnon and McHilton were taken off, rested for the next game and replaced with youngsters recently promoted from the U21s, namely Burton Yasley and Noel Huntly.

Kaze Progressa huffed bravely, though they did not directly threaten with a goal scoring oppertunity. Brittanan dominance was considerable in the midfield, though resolute defending kept both Zurich and Lionel at bay.

The stalemate was threatened on fifty minutes, when Noel Huntly went on a considerable solo run, running fully twenty yards, and managing to dodge a defender before firing off a not unreasonable effort that was comfortably saved.

However, the game belonged to Andrew Zurich on sixty three minutes. Finding himself in space, and passing up the chance to play to the wings, he ran out wide, drawing out the left back, before skinning the tiring man and tearing into the box. He dodged and weaved with amazing skill, and it was a formaility when the advancing Keeper was routed, that the ball would trickle into the net, and give ZURICH his hatrick.

with 5-0, the Game finally slowed, and the remaining twenty minutes played as a genteel affiair, With Brittania comfortable to sit back and adavnce forward only a few times in the quarter of an hour remaining.

Sam: Good evening and welcome to BSTV Sports Tonight. I'm Sam Murphy.

Rick: And I'm Rick Thompson. Joey Stanton is out with the flu. I hope he's all right...

Sam: He'll be fine, Rick. Anyway, World Cup 7 qualifying continues. Today the team visited Middleton, trying to get back on track.

[footage begins]

Rick: The action started here in the 36th minute. Here you see Adam Eckerley with the ball -- he was in the game in place of the injured Johnny Lewis -- anyway, he gives it a kick, the Middleton defender misses it by about an inch, and the goalie can't get to it either. First career goal for Eckerley there.

Sam: The opposition gave us a scare here in the 66th -- he's past Hill, Johnson, Weiss, makes the shot, but Chuck Mitchell makes a very nice save there to prevent the goal.

Rick: And finally, here's captain Gene Barber with the ball...he thinks about making a shot, but passes it off to Young instead, and she takes the shot. Kinda high, hits the bar, but deflected downward into the goal!

[end footage]

Sam: And that's how it ended, Bedistan over Middleton two goals to none. We usually don't win a game this early on...very nicely played by the Lions in Middleton today.

Rick: The team returns home tonight, and we'll be hosting the Republic of Canada at Holmes Stadium tomorrow. Should be a good one, Sam.

Sam: Now, we go to the 2011 Bedistan National Bowling Championship, in which Chip Frederick took home the gold medal with his score of 273...

DAILY CROCODILE

"At last, play is unfolding as it should," said Tanah Burung coach Guntur Ruak after a 2-1 victory at previously undefeated Freedom Country. That result, coupled with Ravenspire's win, leaves the top two seeds at seven points each, with Freedom Country a point off the pace.

Long runs and long balls from offensive defender Rosa Bibere once again highlighted the new-look Crocodiles' play. Bibere was the playmaker behind goals by Cassie da Cruz and Yosepha Syahrir. "The women made the action today," Bibere laughed. But the more offensive style meant more chances for Freedom Country, an unheralded team that has proved itself a serious contender able to play on even terms at this level.

Final score: Freedom Country 1 Tanah Burung 2

KM: Welcome to an RNN World Cup update. I'm Kathryn Malley, and with me is Michael Black. Ravenspire has taken off, enjoying two wins in as many games, a very welcome turnaround after last year's problems.

MB: The team's first win in the qualifiers came against Alisdair I Frosticus. Once a highly-regarded international team, AIF has drastically fallen in the standings in recent years, and the rejuvenated Ravens defeated them handily, 2-0.

KM: As an aside to our viewers, some early reports (OOC: like the "news" section of the website 8) ) incorrectly gave the score as 3-0.

MB: The Frosticus team played a creditable but uninspired game, missing several attempts on goal. Ravenspire's new keeper, foxgirl Autumn Mistmarch, seems to be filling Zhen "Steel Wall" Bao's shoes admirably, Kath.

KM: The Ravens' goals are credited to Kaede Kitsuki at 18 minutes, and newcomer Arawn Frost at 67 minutes.

MB: Kaede scored again in the most recent game, against Nikea, and unlike the goals against Frosticus, this one was visually spectacular. We're running a clip now. This is 52 minutes into a scoreless game. Nikea has the ball on Ravenspire's side of the field. There's defender Adam Spencer -- if the name sounds familiar, it's because he's the younger brother of the Ravens' former midfielder Rahne Spencer -- with a successful tackle. Lynn Armitage, a veteran of several Cups, connects with a pass to Zhen Sui-Ling, who passes it on to Amara Akizuki. Amara takes it up the side of the field, evading a midfielder, almost gets surrounded there, but she manages a pass to Kaede, who's broken away from a defender and has an open shot. There's the kick... right for the side of the goal, it looks like a 50/50 shot to go in or not, but the keeper tries to grab it, misses, and it's off the keeper's thigh and into the goal. That's got to be embarrassing.

KM: Especially in a game as defensively tight as this one. Ravenspire's new defense seems to be upholding the team's tradition in that area; after three games, the crimson and black now possess the best defensive stats in their group, and among the best in the qualifiers. Nikea's defense has likewise proven talented, allowing an average of one goal per game. Kaede's goal was the only one scored in that match.

MB: The wins place Ravenspire into the second slot, slightly behind group leaders Tanah Burung because of goal differential. Most analysts are predicting the team will end in exactly that slot.

KM: Of course, with nine games left, nothing is certain yet. The Ravens have yet to face Freedom Country, which has mounted a surprisingly strong challenge, and Trafari, before meeting Tanah Burung again. We'll continue to bring you updates as qualifying proceeds.

Istertel: Well, we just saw a very tight defensive matchup there Rakemin, Nikea ends up on the short end of it though.

Aseriuene: Yes, quite a shame really, the blue and red played a very nice game against the number 35 team in the world, only to fall short on a goalkeeping error. We'll take a look at the only goal of the game here.

<<The screen fades into the familiar wall scene with the white 3D-block letters "52nd Minute" (OOC: English translation)>>

Aseriuene: The play starts innocently enough, Nikea has the ball in Ravenspire territory, but Mortethel lost it to a nice tackle from Ravenspire defender Adam Spencer. Ravenspire then move the play up, a nice move by Amara Akizuki there to evade 2 Nikean midfielders, and a pass to Ravenspire forward Kaede Kitsuki, who made a shot that looked like it was going wide. Renteritel went for it anyway, mishandled it, and it was in the back of the net for the game's only goal.

Aseriuene: The Pandas have not had much luck so far in Qualifying. While the defence has overall been spectacular, allowing just one goal per game on average, simple mistakes are costing them. In the previous match with Freedom Country, two errors by defender Anain Jentel cost them two goals, while today a goalkeeping error was the cause of the mistake.

Istertel: Nikea's next match is the last game that will be held at Solarin Stadium, against 20th ranked Tanah Burung, who holds the top spot in the group. It should prove quite a test for the Pandas, which will be a very crucial match, as the team currently sits in 4th place in the table. We'll have full coverage of that match, both pre-game and post-game analysis, starting at 2:30 pm. Kickoff will be at 3, and the crowd is expected to be loud. Until next time, I'm Isterin Limentel, along with Rakemin Aseriuene, saying goodnight.

YOU ARE WATCHING: Football Wrapup on the Multinational Sports Net.

Mike White: Hey folks, Mike White and Donald Crowhurst here bringing you your dose of football news tonight. Don, World Cup fever has hit Oglethorpia. Let's start things off with the national team's schedule.

Don Crowhurst: Cue fancy-looking schedule table.

[code:1:f0ffd5b507]
Schedule

Oglethorpia at Giant Zucchini (1-2)
Terranos at Oglethorpia (1-4)
Oglethorpia at ENRG (5-1)
Krieland at Oglethorpia
Oglethorpia at Mezitzia

Giant Zucchini at Oglethorpia
Oglethorpia at Terranos
ENRG at Oglethorpia
Oglethorpia at Krieland
Mezitzia at Oglethorpia

[/code:1:f0ffd5b507]

Don Crowhurst: Let's take a look at Group 9.

[code:1:f0ffd5b507]
Group 9

1. Oglethorpia (12)
2. Giant Zucchini (33)
3. Mezitzia (70)
4. ENRG
5. Krieland
6. Terranos

[/code:1:f0ffd5b507]

Mike White: Oglethorpia's the seeded team, ranked 12th after bowing out of WC6 in the first stage.

Don Crowhurst: Oglethorpia would go on to face Giant Zucchini to open up WC7 qualifying.

Mike White: Giant Zucchini's team came out fighting, Urk sending in a zinger in the 38th minute, Hernandez giving up another to Phoot in the 51st. Danny-boy would put one on the board in the 79th minute off a free kick, but too little too late. Giant Zucchini 2, Oglethorpia 1.

Don Crowhurst: Aye. A 33rd ranked team opening up qualifying on a great note. Next, Terranos traveled to Oglethorpia City to play in Kuruma Stadium; a sold-out crowd of 75,000 on hand to see a revitalized team play at home.

Mike White: That's right Don, Oglethorpia came out swinging off a loss with Kurt Fitzgerald knocking one in after an attempt by newcomer Rich Steward in the 7th minute. Bolton upped his WC-goal count to two after a fantastic header off of Fitzgerald's kick up into the goalie box in the 34th.

Don Crowhurst: Eddy Christianson put one in from midfield just before halftime. Hernandez finally let one past in the 51st minue, but Rich Stewart scored the team's final goal off of an indirect kick in the 63rd.

Mike White: A good rebound from a loss, and definitely a crowd pleaser. Oglethorpia would then face ENRG and score five against ENRG at their home stadium. Four names you need to remember: Stewart, 13, Bolton, 26, Christianson, 28, Fitzgerald, 51 and Bolton again in the 78th.

Don Crowhurst: Aye. A good preformance from Oglethorpia. Ray Krusen's really proven himself, getting a team ready to preform even against newcomers like Terranos and ENRG, proven by the nine goals scored across those two games.

Mike White: Let's go down to Murray Witcombe in the field, for some reason with the skinny on Krieland at Oglethorpia.

Don Crowhurst: Let's not.

Kuruma Stadium, @ 9:14 PM.

Murray Witcombe: G'day Mikey! Now, Krieland's the last of the three newcomer teams in Group 9 and Oglethorpia's highly favored going into the game. Look for another preformance like Oglethorpia vs ENRG. If you were to bet on the game you'd get about the same amount of money back, not like any of you out there bet anyways.

Mike White: Murray, it's 15 past nine.

Murray Witcombe: 14 and 32 seconds. 33. 34. 35...

Mike White: Well we'll check in on Murray later on in Football Wrapu-

Murray Witcombe: Now it's 15 past nine.

Mike White: Right. Now, we'll see you nexttime on Football Wrapup. Tune in tomorrow at 3:00 PM for Krieland at Oglethorpia on the Multinational Sports Net. The best of luck to our World Cup team out there. For Donald Crowhurst, i'm Mike White. See ya later, folks.

Quohog's Information Minister Baanes Dosti recently shed some light on the microfibre deal made with Errinundera, "This is going to be a wonderful partnership. Maw Ltd has done such work in other nations before, showing the world the friendly side of Quohog. Many nations seem to have false images about us, but once they come to realize that our strong businesses are founded through hard work and visionary leaders such as Mar Baxxy, they normally come to have a better relationship with us. Of course, our monetary aid is always appreciated as well. This aid allows native governments to support growing business, a support supplemented by our own businesses who realize that a healthy trading partner will only benefit us.

"This deal in Fanny Moo is particularly exciting. Although there have been some heated exchanges between our two countries, cooler heads have prevailed, culminating in this meeting in Fanny Moo. Now our revolutionary process for creating microfibre will be a benefit to the Errinunderans, the worlds largest per capita consumers of the product. Some of our citizens might be wondering what this microfibre is used for, and the answer would be everything for an Errinunderan. Oftentimes, they even wrap their bodies in it, a practice which would be strange in Quohog where about 99.99 percent of the population are what outsiders would call nudists or naturalists. It is similar to one of our automatic climate controllers, except it doesn't use electricity and one modifies its usefulness by the amount of material.

"I'm also excited to say that after talks with Errinundera's Protector of Trade, invidio, we have decided that we should attempt more business dealings. We were given a tentative go-ahead for investing in Fanny Moo's shoemaking trade. Actually, the minister has already enacted some of our suggestions in that regard. As a sign of our esteem, invidio has been given a wonderful mansion overlooking Maw Ltd's private beach just outside Quohog City. It will give him a place to stay when here for negotiations. I think that our countries are moving in a positive direction, even if a football rivalry still exists.

"And speaking of football news, our team has now won their third game in a row, 3-0. The team has been doing great, keeping their opponents scoreless so far. If you are wondering which channel to view the games on, you will find that channels 234, 389, 1098, and 2987 are carrying the games on a continuous loop. Channel 27, Quohog Football News will be carrying all the games live. Tune in to support the team as they attempt to finally gain the prize that we have coveted for so long, the World Cup. Thank you, and please stay tuned for the rest of the news."

LIVERPOOL ENGLAND TOP GROUP 2 ON GOAL DIFFERENCE, ODDSLAVO REMAIN IN SECOND IN GROUP 15

The nation is in celebrations after topping Group Two on
Goal Difference after three games. The two previous
joint-leaders, Intergallactic Hell and Runaway Moose,
both lost, 4-0 at home and 1-0 away respectively. That
left Liverpool England and Pavesia with chances to top
the group if both teams won. Both did, but Liverpool England
won by the bigger margin, disposing former leader Intergallactic
Hell 4-0 compared to Pavesia's 2-0 win over Praetorian Rome.

Commerce Heights, unseeded, managed to get away with
a one-goal home victory over top seed in Group 2 Runaway
Moose [seeded 18th], leaving the gap open for Liverpool
England to take the advantage. In the second consecutive
game in which LE won, scoring four goals, Paul Oliver Dussis
continued his scoring streak. The 22 year old scoring his second
hat trick in as many games. Caddy Cannon also continued his
streak with another goal from non-open play, heading in from a
corner on 69 minutes at the far post.

Meanwhile, Oddslavo, a colony of the Empire, scored their
third win in as many games. The unseeded colony, which had
created some controversy after deciding to allow one
non-Oddslavoran but still part of the Empire in. Joe Gaug, a
Fronbulatian, was later removed from the squad. A 2-1 win
over Timway saw them concede the first goal in their qualifying
campaign.

Spaam Kicks Ass

Spaam yesterday scored their biggest ever win yesterday with a 4 nil away drubbing against Crimina. Assistant Coach Hoopai took control of the team for the match against the newcomers, and set up a 4-2-2-2 side which decimated the opposition's defense. Taking control of the match from the very start, Crimina held well, but could not hold up against the agressive Spaamanians. Whiz kid Dorth got the first goal in the 30th minute with the support of the other member of the teenage striking duo, Sëhelin. Ten minutes later the duo struck again, with Sëhelin. Just after the break, Crimina got their only real chance of the game, after their striker got past the Ringer and Telemnar, but the goal was saved by Súrion. Teinwë scored Spaam's third goal in the 57th minute after a penalty kick by Lossë. The rest of the match was a formality, with Dorth scoring his second in the 86th minute, heading the ball with a corner from Choi. After the game, Assitant Coach Hoopai said, "The team played well, and showed some of the agressiveness that we had in the last World Cup. I know its wierd for our team to have to go through the Qualifiers, since we haven't done that in over a decade, but we are getting some good experience, and are coming back from our unfotunate loss on the first matchday. We get our next match is at home against Jacktazea, who have suprised so far, but we expect to do very well." Sports Critic Aliia Wiel however said, "Its all very well blasting away second rate teams, but we should be concentrating on defense, which has always been our downfall. Before the last two games, we had 9 goals scored against us in just 3 games. Frankly, this is unacceptable, and if we want to remain one of the top teams in the world, we must fix this now." Spaam is now second in the group, just one point behind former World Cup champions Dennisov. As an aside, in the last 20 International non-friendlies, Spaam has racked up a 12-4-4 record, with 39-20 F/A.

From the pages of this mornings Scuttlebutt:

The Snub Nose 38 Hooligans remain unbeaten in Qualifying play for World Cup 7. So far, the Hooligans won two matches, and tied their third. The tie rankled just a little, as it was with international football newcomer Gilmeecia - who just happen to be managed by Bi Kikere. Bi Kikere is well known in Snub Nose 38 as the Manager of the Tanah Burung Croc's in WC6. Hooligan Manager Ben Dover had really wanted to win this one, and was a little disappointed to have to settle for the draw.
-------------------------
- Stop crying, Ben.
- But Eileen...how could this happen?
- You're being such a baby.
- But we HAD to beat them. Gilwhatchamcallit hardly knows the rules. They can't remember how many players to start the match with. They brought flippin' Volleyballs with them instead of Footballs.
- We did not lose the match.
- We did not win the match either. It's Bi. She's a Jonah.
- What?
- Bad luck. She's bad luck for us. We have to do something.
- What are you babbling on about?
- We have to kidnap Bi! We have to make sure she's not there if and when we have to play the Gilwhosis side again!
- We have to take you to a shrink.
-------------------------------
*we are peering through the hall door into the offices of the minister of athletics, olympics, and alcoholic beverages. they are much improved since the last we were here. crystal chandeliers, mahagony and leather furniture, a well stocked bar. the minister is reading this mornings 'scuttlebutt'. someone known only as 'margaret' is sleeping on the couch. the minister jumps up from his desk - and spends the next few minutes wiping up the spilled beer. then ---*
- Margaret! It's Quohog all over again! Call the Minister of Super Secret Sleuthery!
- Hmmm...?
- This business of Notacitystan winning every match.
- What?
- Notacitystan, Margaret. They have never played international football before, and now they go ahead and win three straight matches.
- Nonexistentcitygrad.
- What? Is that one of your magic words?
- DON’T ever talk about magic. We supplicate the random number gods sacrificially. We don’t do magic.
- What about the rubber chicken? What about the little leather pouch with two eagle feathers tied to it with a silver string? What about…
- What about shutting up?
- Nasty, that’s what you are, just nasty. Well, if you weren’t talking about magic, what were you on about?
- The name of the side that’s won three in a row in our qualifying group, and sits in the number one slot. It’s “Nonexistentcitygrad”.
- I said that. I said “Notacitystan”.
- Nonexistentcitygrad
- Notbeingacitystate.
- Bah. You would need a promotion to be hopeless.

RARE ORCHID THROWS RAIL TRAVELLERS FOR A LOOP
Several healthy specimens of the rare Ulysses orchid have been discovered growing between the tracks of the main Fanny Moo - Bonang rail line. All services have been cancelled while the line is rebuilt around the site. Regular commuters are thrilled. "I had thought the orchid had gone forever from the district," said accountant, peronalityp. "Now that I know it has been found again I don't mind taking the longer trip via Goongerah."

MAGISTRATE TO INVESTIGATE SANDRAB INCIDENT
Fanny Moo magistrate, carmenl, has announced that she will investigate the incident where football coach, sandrab, allegedly struck our newspaper reporter, inyourfa. As the injured reporter is unable to speak at this time the hearings have been postponed to a later date. Due to our commitment to the occupational health and safety of our employees we did not send another reporter to obtain a comment from sandrab.

MODERN FACTORY REMAINS IDLE
It's only one day since the Quohog delegation left the country and already the factory is idle, despite plenty of microfibre supplies. Union leader, sharonb, says that the entire plant has walked off the job in support of the football boot makers. "Without consulting anybody here in Fanny Moo the Protector of Trade uses some long forgotten sub-paragraph under the Bushfire Relief Regulations to dock these people's wages by 3%. Why? It's not as if Ploser Ltd is struggling at the moment. Business is booming."

Errinundera's Protector of Trade, invidio, is incensed by the development. "We have the opportunity to show the world that we have a product that is utterly indistinguishable from leather. This should make all Errinundrians proud. And now it could all be spoiled by the irresponsibility of a bunch of troublemakers. This deal that I've brokered after weeks of intense negotiations with Maw Ltd and Ploser Ltd could fall through all because of the idiotic action of a few hundred selfish workers."

"A few hundred? Think again," says failed revolutionary, levlaf. "Cutting worker's wages hasn't happened in Errinundera since before the 1941 liberation. We are organizing a boycott of all Ploser products. And you know how successful these can be. Nestle Errinundera went bankrupt after Errinundrians refused to use their products because of the company's dubious practices in developing countries."

MORE JOY FOR FOOTBALL TOURISTS
Despite the national team's loss (see below) our reporter was, once again, able to catch up with local Fanny Moo football star, pomaderrisa.

"DePaul is one weird place. I mean, they are democratic but they only have elections every 15 years. I can just imagine someone on voting day approaching a polling official and asking - 'this voting thing, what's it all about? I seem to have forgotten the point.' You know there are more policemen than teachers in this country? More soldiers than nurses? Well, at least everybody seems to be equally ignorant and equally unhealthy. And they all work either for the government or the arms industry. Mind you, in Errinundera we all work either for the government or the book publishing industry. Oh, and we can't forget Ploser, of course."

What were the opportunities for romance like? "They have marriage police! Do you believe it? So getting a root was real cloak and dagger stuff. I met a really nice bloke but he was so nervous, what with the marriage police and his religious scruples, that it was all over before I knew it and he was off. The poor man. If only he could have relaxed."

GAMBLE WITH INEXPERIENCED SIDE FAILS
After two wins in two games on the road, Errinundrian coach, fionar, decided to rest several players against bottom side DePaul. Coming into the side were several first gamers: codith, brunswickr, scaroline, sedinburgh in goals and sbrunswick on the bench. Also on the ground were occasional capped players, joyhilla and rhusband. The result? The team lost two-nil. DePaul must have thought all their Tree Days had come at once.

Only one of the youngsters showed any mettle. codith had a fine game in the midfield, demonstrating enough skill, tactical flair and perseverance to suggest that she has a future at the international level. She was thrilled with her first full game. "I was selected as substitute in the match against Sliponia but only spent a few minutes on the ground. Today I was given a role from the very start. It was disappointing not winning but the previous game where we got to meet the crowd at the end of the game was something I'll never forget."

Best player for Errinundera was acting captain, horstrac, who tried all day, to no avail, to raise the enthusiasm level of her young charges. snapier cemented her reputation as an up and coming superstar with many clever interventions that were inevitably squandered by her teammates. "It was a funny day," she told us after the game. "It was as if half the blokes were playing by one team plan and the other half by a different one. We seemed to have no idea what the others were thinking. Either passes arrived unexpectedly; or we kept running to the wrong position; or support wasn't forthcoming when it was needed; or we would compete with each other for possession."

Coach fionar put it down to inexperience and a general weariness of being away from home so long. "The whole sorry day was encapsulated with DePaul's second goal," she said. "sedinburgh and delegatensise just stood flatfooted expecting the other to intercept the softest of shots. So, of course, the ball just sails between them, doesn't it? sedinburgh must learn that, although another player may be senior to him, the goalie has the leadership role in those situations."

Antaeus Rising national side suffer case of the "Gilmeecian Jeebies"
Fallen City, Antaeus Rising

In a first-ever case of the Gilmeecia Kickfooters national football club winning a match, the entire Antaeus Rising side was diagnosed with "Screeming Gilmeecian Jeebies," a neurological disorder that doctors have described as "freaky." Said Antaeus Rising team physician Harold Ant, "It began early in the first half of play. For no apparent reason our players began having trouble focussing. Some broke out in cold sweats. Others hallucinated that oversized spiders were feasting on their eyeballs. The players were disoriented and had trouble finding their balance. Then it got really bad."

After the halftime break, the entire first team was hospitalized. The second team, which could ordinarily whip the Kickfooters with their eyes closed, quickly succumbed to the dreaded ailment as well. Gilmeecia coach Bi Kikere said, "I have no idea what's wrong with them. But at least one of our opponents knows what these Gilmeecians have to contend with every moment of their waking lives."

However, Gilmeecian team physician "Dr." Joe "Hacksaw" Beater, disputed the coach's words. "What's she know? She ain't no Gilmeecian. Always people are getting down on the Gilmeecians. We're not so dumb. And I ain't never heard of no 'screamin' jeebies' neither. I can walk in a perfectly straight line. See? Ouch."

It is not clear how the Antaeus Rising team contracted the disorder, or even whether the disorder exists outside the team's fevered imagination. Perhaps they will recover before their next match. According to Antaeus Rising coach Ant Hackman, "The only thing that can be stated with certainty is that Gilmeecia doesn't beat anybody. Therefore something must have gone hideously wrong with us. Hideously, hideously wrong."

Gilmeecian Jeebies ?

The Snub Nose 38 Minister of Health, Mining, and Obscure Rituals announced that a thorough medical examination of the entire Snub Nose 38 Hooligan side had been conducted immediately following the recent World Cup 7 Qualifier against Gilmeecia. The match, played in Gilmeecia, resulted in a draw. The Minister added that while at this time the results seem negative for "Gilmeecian Jeebies", the final blood test results were not yet in.

Manager Ben Dover, who had collapsed after the draw in Gilmeecia, managed a smile from his bed in the Physchiatric Ward of Saint Swithens Hospital. He mumbled something unintelligible that sounded like "bike curse."

Eileen Dover, Defensive Manager, said, "We played 'em in Gilmeecia, we drew, we took home a point."

Justin Case, Offensive Coach for the Hooligans, stated that at least three Hooligan players told him after the match that they had been chased by giant dire-FIFA spiders during the entire match - although no one else seems to have seen the dire-FIFA spiders, and they do not appear on the ASPN film of the match.

The Minister of Athletics, Olympics, and Alcoholic Beverages was not available for comment. However, a representative from the Ministry, who gave her name only as "Margaret", warned other international sides to avoid the water in Gilmeecia. "You see what it's done to the Gilmeecians," she said, "And they're used to it. Don't drink the water."

Ravens Take Lead

Godforsaken Hole, Trafari (AP) -- The Ravenspire Ravens, visiting Trafari, dealt a 3-0 defeat to the hapless Trafarian team. The three-goal margin of victory, an unusually large one for the defense-focused Ravens, boosts the team to first place in group three by a slender goal-differential advantage over top seeds Tanah Burung (who also won their match, against Nikea). The team credits the win to "teamwork and lots of offense training over the last year or two," according to striker Amara Akizuki, who scored the first of the three goals.

But some fans are less charitable. "Let's face it, Trafari isn't exactly a challenge. They've got no experience, and they've lost four straight," notes one woman, who requested anonymity. "It'd be a travesty if we'd lost. Worse than that 4-0 loss against that other new team last time around."

The Ravens next play Freedom Country, a newcomer which has mounted a strong challenge, including the defeat of former notables Alisdair I Frosticus, and which is currently third in the group, one point behind both Ravenspire and Tanah Burung.

Goals: Amara Akizuki (14), Kaede Kitsuki (43), Arawn Frost (70).

Kingsford National Still Undefeated in Qualifying
No Suprise, Coaches Say

The Kingsford National took it's forth win in qualifying today, making it the only undefeated squad in Group 7. This was also true after Gameday 3.
"We went in against North Russia with a positive attitude.. and what happened? We killum! HAHAHA!" Said the slightly eccentric Desypar, new forward on the Kingsford National. He scored all three goals for a hat trick against North Russia last night.
We interviewed John Thompson on letting a grand total of 3 goals in so far. He had this to say: "Sure, I let in three goals, but the boys up front have put in 12. And last time I checked, that's maybe a lot or something. Yeah."

*****ASPN WORLD CUP 7 SPECIAL REPORT*****

*through a translucent wc7 logo we see four magnificent goals, followed in quick succession by three stupendous saves, and an incredible tackle. as this is seen, we hear the now famous, and still obnoxious, aspn theme – as usual, just loud enough to be truly annoying. the theme fades, and the scene segues to the aspn sports desk, where our intrepid reporter is blowing his nose. he looks up. he freezes. then, he quickly tosses his handkerchief away, and…*

World Cup Qualifying returned to the Borderlands of Snub Nose 38 today, as the Snub Nose 38 Hooligans played their fourth World Cup 7 Qualifying match, the first at home in “38 Special” Stadium. The Hooligans faced the side from Nonexistentcitygrad – and that lead to a little confusion early on. The Stadium announcer refused to announce the teams, under the impression that one of the writers was pulling his leg, and that Nonexistentcitygrad was a made-up name. To add to the confusion, the booth microphone was left on accidentally, and the entire discussion could be heard.

- …expect me to actually announce “Nonexistentcitygrad”? Do you take me for a fool?
- That is the real name of their country.
- I didn’t fall off the turnip truck just yesterday, you know.
- No, no, Nonexistentcitygrad is th…
- Horse duckets. That’s patently absurd.
- Look, just announce the teams so we can get on with the match, dammit!
- Not on your bloody life! Not until somebody tells me the real name of the visiting team.

At this point, the Ambassador from Nonexistentcitygrad arrived at the broadcast booth. There was some mumbling, what sounded a bit like an apology, and the sides were announced. The Ministry of Defense indicates that contrary to the current rumor, there was no actual declaration of war.

Once the match got underway, the Hooligans took the lead immediately, with this absolutely marvelous header in the sixth minute.

*we see a hooligan player cross the ball in from the right, to the far post and just outside the six. another hooligan sends heads it back to the near post, and a third flicks it in. the hooligans erupt into celebration.*

One nill, Hooligans. The Nonexistentcitygrad side fought back with several exceedingly good chances, but the Hooligan keeper, Pancake, was in great form.

*we see several exceedingly good chances by nonexistent players, but pancake is in great form.*

Just before the half the Hooligans slipped in another. A Hooligan midfielder, Knuckles, slide tackled a Nonexistent player in the box, and drove the ball into the net.

*we see - that*

At the half, Nonexistentcitygrad 0 – Snub Nose 38 Hooligans 2. The Hooligan Cheerleaders, released from jail two months ago and with only a few more days left on the ban against their traveling outside the country, took the field for the first time in several years.

*the hooligan cheerleaders, resplendent in their red and blue uniforms (with flak jackets), run onto the pitch, and begin*

“Hooligans, Hooligans, Rah!! Rah!! Rah!!
Nonexistentcitygrad, who ever you are
Snub Nose 38 Hooligans’ll get ya
And send you all packin’, that much we’ll betcha
Nonexistent players – BOO on you!!”

*the hooligan cheerleaders are quickly surrounded by nonexistentcitygrad fans, hooligan fans, stadium security, and a remington county sheriff swat team – all of whom are throwing a multitude of vegetables (tomatoes, creamed corn, squash, cucumbers, a very large pumpkin, etc), as well as whatever else comes to hand (a wheelchair, a bucket, two ducks) at the cheerleaders. after a brief scuffle, the hooligan cheerleaders are, as we’ve come to expect, led off in manacles*

The second half was more than half over before the next goal, which came at the 73rd minute. The Hooligans had a free kick at about 30, and managed to convert.

*we see a hooligan run up to take the free kick, and instead execute a pass across the front of the wall, to a teammate, who strikes the ball into the net with his first touch. the nonexistentcitygrad keeper gets a hand to the ball, but can’t deflect it enough to keep it out.*

Then, just two minutes later, the final goal of the match was an “own-goal”. A Nonexistent defender attempted to clear the ball, and it rebounded off the back of another Nonexistent defender and into the net.

*we see the nonexistent player attempt to clear. we see the ball come off his teammate and rebound into the net. we see the stunned look on the entire nonexistentcitygrad sides collective faces.*

The Nonexistentcitygrad side’s play was much better than the score line at the end of the match would indicate. Although out-played by the Hooligans, they were never out-classed. And the final was: NONEXISTENTCITYGRAD 0 – SNUB NOSE 38 HOOLIGANS 4.

This lifted the Hooligans to first place in their qualifying group, and dropped Nonexistentcitygrad to second.

You are watching EuropaSpot, World Cup VII Qualifications Round Group Five- Fourth Group Match [Highlights]

Brittania took a step closer to qualification for the Seventh World Cup with another resounding win, this time against Sliponia.

Jarvis Smith, interviewed before kick off, explained his delight at the way his team has played so far:

"We've had a good deal to answer for in recent competitions, and I'll admit I really couldn't see how I could improve....I did contemplate stepping aside...I just couldn't see why we were getting nowhere with the quality we possess. But I really feel that our time is now. Every player is at the top of his game. Andrew Zurich continues to become a bigger star with each goal. His domestic exploits in the Giant Zuchinni Premier league, and now his immense International form have made him one of the greatest players on the world stage. Danny McHilton was struggling to maintain a first team domestic place this time last year, now he is a first choice, and the heart of my midfield pairing along with Oliver [Junnon]. Young Gordon O'hanrahan has excelled with the experience of Rusel [Cannon] to draw apon, and as ever Mark [Reeves] is immense. I will continue to push the team, and we will strive to achieve what has eluded us seven competitions...the cup itself."

Brittania lined up with their traditional 4-4-2, making only one change, with David Winter returning alongside Andrew Zurich, and Derek Lionel back on the bench after his solid achievments against Kaze Progressa.

--------------------------------Reeves------------------------------

Jones------------O'Hanrahan----------Cannon---------------Stacey

Strazt---------------Junnon----------McHilton--------------Simmons

----------------------Zurich---------Winter---------------------------

Having won their last group game a resounding 5-0, Brittania began play with justified confidence. This new found Confidence was tested severely almost two minutes from kick off. A great run by the Sliponia right Winger and the resultant flick on found the centre forward in space. Taking the ball forward, he took a touch before sending a hellacious shot goalwards. Cannnon missed with his left foot, and Reeves was powerless but to tip it into the net, giving Sliponia a most unexpected lead.

Brittania struggled to maintain cohesion, and only a dubious offisde call against Sliponia saved a second.

On twelve minutes the first Brittanian attempt on goal saw a fine through ball by Junnon picked up by Zurich, who was excellently stopped at the hands of the Opposition keeper, who dived at his feet.

Nerves jarried, but settling Brittania pushed wave apon wave of pressure, the ball rarely breaking over the half way line for nearly ten minutes. Reward cme on twenty minutes, with a corner.

Strazt sent a wicked curling effort into the box, which was seized apon by ZURICH. Escaping his marker, he climbed highest to bullet a header goalwards, hauling his Nation level.

a clumsy challenge saw the Sliponia Central defender yellow carded, and a free kick awarded twenty Yards from goal. McHilton duly took duty and fired a vicious effort that shaved the right hand post by a mere couple of inches with the Keeper well beaten.

Another good cross from the pacy Strazt into the box caused problems for Sliponia, who cleared weakly. WINTER seized, hitting a volley sweetly, that rocketed into goal at over seventy miles an hour, making it 2-1 on forty minutes.

Half Time Score-

Europa Brittania 2 Sliponia 1
Zurich 20, Winter 41

The Brittanian team that took to the field for the second half had recieved a rousing call to action from Jarvis Smith, who had collected the letters of primary school children just before the team had left Brittania. He took to reading out a few to the team, instilling who they were playing for, and who was watching.

The fierce pride instilled was showing immensly, and Sliponia found themselves hemmed into their own half for much of play. A rare foray forward brought a foolish lunge from Cannon, who earned himself a yellow card, and Sliponia a penalty.

The stadium fell silent as the ball was duly placed, and the kick taken. The ball sailed towards the goal, to the right and just under the crossbar. Reeves threw himself up, tipping the shot over the bar with unbelievable agility.

The Brittanian reply was swift. Finding himself just outside the eighteen yard box, with no support from the rapidly advancing Strikers, McHilton took a touch, before powering his famous shot towards goal. Though it dipped cruelly, the Sliponia Keeper looked to have it covered when a Defender attempted to deflect it. He suceeded only in altering the balls trajectory by the slightest hint needed to put it into the net.

with the score now 3-1, Brittania's opponents balked, both Zurich and Winter were making free runs frequently, and only some solid goalkeeping was preventing a goalfest.

Sliponia piled the men behind the ball, and suceeded in frustrating Brittania. With fifteen minutes remaining Winter was withdrawn and replaced with Derek Lionel. This fresh pair of legs had only one thing on his mind- goals.

It came on eighty three minutes. A sweet volley from Junnon was wide of the mark, and intercepted on the goal-line by a defender, who cleared. Strazt picked up the loose ball and cleanly pushed it through to Lionel. The Sliponia goalkeeper rushed from his line with speed, but Lionel had the deftest touch, and stabbed his foot under the ball, chipping the anguished goalkeeper, and wheeling to his teammates congratulations even as the ball trickled into the net.

FINAL SCORE:

[Camera pans over Holmes Stadium in Columbia, the capital of Bedistan. Every one of the stadium's 82,000+ seats is filled, and blue, silver, and maroon, the team colors, can be seen everywhere.]

Sam: LIVE, from Holmes Stadium here in sunny Columbia, you are watching World Cup Seven Qualifying. It's matchday four, and we are hosting the Republic of Canada. I'm Sam Murphy.

Fiona: I'm Fiona Edelman, the director of BSTV's live game coverage. I'll be sitting in for the first part of the match today.

Sam: Where's Joey? He told me he didn't have the flu anymore.

Fiona: I have him here on the phone. Joey, how's it going?

Joey (via phone): Hey guys, it's me, Joey Stanton. I'm happy to say I'm feeling much better, but I'm stuck here in a traffic jam on the X2. According to the radio, there's a 5-car pileup just before milepost 17. They say it'll be cleaned up soon, but I don't know if I'll make it to the stadium.

Sam: Well, where are you, buddy?

Joey: I'm not even into the Federal District yet. It'll be a while.

Fiona: Well, do you think you can stay with us on the phone and throw in your two cents' worth from there?

Joey: Eh, I've only got 14 minutes left on this phone...

Fiona: I'll pay for the overtime.

Joey: You have yourself a deal. Thanks a bunch, Fiona.

Sam: So, Fiona, what's the starting lineup for the Lions today?

Fiona: Sierra's still out with that injury from the Rhaken Kull match, so Hill will take his place. Otherwise, standard starters today.

Sam: Let's give a brief rundown for the uninitiated:

Goalkeeper: Bream [23]
Defense: Bell [9], Weiss [18], Johnson [19], Thomas [22]
Midfield: Young [6], Barber [13, capt], Black [17], Hill [28]
Forwards: Lewis [8], Whitehurst [16]

Joey: We're 1-0-2 coming into this match. That doesn't sound too good, but it's actually better than we usually are at this point. The win against Middleton was our earliest ever since we came in in WC5.

Sam: The anthems have played and here's the toss -- Canada wins it.

Fiona: Here we go!

[3rd minute]

Sam: Thomas passes to Weiss, up to Carla Hill -- she's been playing very well, I might add -- she sends it to Lewis, he fires it -- it's IN!

Joey: Holy crap, that was early...

Fiona: Goal by Johnny Lewis in...what, the third minute? Wow.

Sam: That's his first goal of WC7 and his 21st overall. 1-0 Bedistan.

[30th minute]

Fiona: That's Jeff Whitehurst with the ball there...he takes a shot, it's deflected by the Canadian keeper, it goes to Lewis, he shoots and it's another goal!

Joey: Well, I see...er, hear...Johnny hasn't lost his touch.

Sam: Indeed not. Second goal of the game for Lewis, giving us a 2-0 lead over the Republic of Canada!

[46th minute]

Sam: And that's halftime. Joey, buddy, where are you?

Joey: Just now getting off the X2 at Stadium Blvd. I think I can make it before halftime ends.

Sam: Good. We'll be looking for you.

Fiona: I have to pee.

Sam: Um, yes...thanks for sharing, Fiona. We'll take a commercial break and be back with second half coverage in a bit.

Dave (commentator): "Well, another match I think we all enjoyed watching tonight against Etria. Why is it we don't get this kind of playing when we get to the quarter finals, Tina?"

Tina (commentator): "Let's stick to this stage for now, shall we? Ariddia has done well so far, with three victories in three matches, but the hardest is still to come. And we're not even top of our group."

Dave: "Still, this was an intense match. Eight goals scored! And no one can say the Etrians weren't up to the challenge."

Tina: "No, I can't really find that much fault with Ariddia's defence or al-Jibai's goalkeeping. The Etrians scored three goals because they were quick, active and coordinated."

Dave: "Their defence was a bit of a mess, though. Anyway, two goals by Raphael Ford, two goals by Myrtille Ford, and one by Luc N'tula."

Tina: "Right, Ariddia is in this with determination, starting the show right from the beginning of the competition. We'll just have to hope they don't run out of energy... We'll keep you updated. G'night!"

And today West Ariddia's national football team continued their progress through the initial stages of the World Cup, welcoming the Alhana Catherine team to the National Stadium in Aqeyr [West Ariddia's capital city] for a watch which West Ariddia won by 2-0.

Those who doubted whether the team would ever be able to rival that of our communist neighbours are beginning to admit we may be in with a chance to qualify. So far, at the end of day 3, West Ariddia has scored 4 goals and conceded 4, an average performance which has earned them a valuable six points.

TIMWAY RECOVERS WITH 4-1 VICTORY OVER ZIHKA

Timway's national team recovered from a dreadfull 1-2 loss to Oddslavo to the tune of a 4-1 victory over the nation of Zihka. The win probably saved coach Pablo Rolla his job. He had this to say: "I know that the nation of Timway is intolerant of mediocrity, and I probably would have fired myself if we lost two straight games to unseeded teams." The team next plays another unseeded team, God Squad, at home in Timopolis.

ORD Scores into Second Place

I am Stan Inn and you are watching the One Red Dot Sports Update. In today's match against Pablicosta at the Red Dot Royal Stadium, the Dottian National Team defeated the Pablicostian in a 3-0 win and sent yet another team with a loss. It was a one-sided match as Pablicosta could not match up with the 21-seed team, but they did put up a good fight, preventing any more goals to be scored by H. RADFORD who had scored all 3 goals in the match.

Yesterday, One Red Dot also scored 3-0 against host nation Grand master Mark. DURSLEY, H. RADFORD and substitute HASHIEI each scored a goal during the exciting match.

Head Coach Alvin Ker said that he is very pleased with the performance of the team for the past three days and he feels that the confidence level of the team has defenitely risen significantly.

On Day 5, One Red Dot would be playing host at Chisai'nihon Stadium to Bullonien. The newly employed Team Adviser, Christopher Yorkshin from King Mark's FC of the Red Dot Royal League says that he expects an easy win and hopes that the present Goal Difference of 8 would be increased even further.

He also added that first place position in the table would still be difficult to reach as Dark Outcast would be playing against Aquilla and he expects Dark Outcast to win. He also that when Day 6 comes and we defeat Dark Outcast then first place in the table would be reached.

We now close the Red Dot Sports Update with the present Group 4 Qualifying Table. This is Stan Inn and this has been the Onr Red Dot Sports Update. Good Night.

Major news items from the Fanny Moo Examiner On-line:

http://reachcanada.com/Uploads/MastHeadWebsite/MastHeadWebSite.4.gif

CAR SMUGGLED INTO TREE
Sniffer wombats today discovered a car that had been smuggled into Fanny Moo in defiance of national laws. Wombat trainer, whoaboy, is bemused at where the vehicle turned up. "It was in a guy's living room 50 metres above the ground in his tree house. The wombats headed straight for the tree and surrounded it, sniffing the air. So I climbed up and checked it out. What gets me is how he got it up there without anyone noticing."

Owner of the car, oldandlo, is quite up front about it. "I've been making model cars since I was a kid and I thought it would be nice to have a real one. Isn't it a beauty - it's a Mazda 121." When asked how he got it into his living room he replied that getting it up there was the easy part. "I had the individual parts mailed to me by the manufacturer. I've spent the last ten years assembling them."

When asked if he had noticed some odd things, such as car doors, wheels and a chassis, go through his post office, local postmaster, aterma, was indignant. "How long have you lived in Errinundera? Everything is odd in this country. Besides, I've never seen a car before. I wouldn't know a car door if I fell over one."

Magistrate carmenl said that it was unlikely that the matter would be investigated. "For sure, the law bans cars outright but the intention of the law is to prevent their use. There isn't anything resembling a road within 250 kilometres of here and I can't even begin to think where oldandlo could get some petrol. Having it in his living room clearly tells me that he only intends it for personal recreational usage in his own home."

DILEMMA FOR SHOE FACTORY WORKERS
The latest tactic by the Ploser-Maw consortium to re-open the football boot factory has caught Fanny Moo workers completely off guard. Arriving on the train from McKillops Bridge this morning were several hundred unemployed political refugees willing to work for the lower rates now on offer. Unwilling to cause grief for the wretched asylum seekers the picket allowed them to pass unmolested.

Union leader sharonb admits to being disconcerted by this new stratagem. "As a refugee advocate I'm well aware of the terrible experiences these particular people have gone through. As a union, we really don't want to worsen their post-traumatic stress syndrome. That doesn't mean we won't be devising some new stratagems of our own. I can tell you that we plan to shut down every other Ploser enterprise in the country."

In a related development, prominent activist swellen, claimed that the Ploser boycott was building momentum. "Errinundrians love a boycott. Along with banning things, it's a favourite national pastime. Spontaneous pickets are already in place outside stores all over the nation. Several leading chains have removed their stocks of Pinnacle products so as not to annoy customers. Our moles within Ploser Ltd are telling us that sales have plummetted overnight. What we would dearly love to do is to get the national football side to disendorse the company."

Convenor of the Errinundrian Football Association, mountd, revealed to us that the World Cup squad was contractually bound to continue using the Ploser Pinnacle branded products. "Besides, what do they expect us to do? Play in bare feet and kick around a stuffed sock? I know of no other manufacturer of quality non-leather football equipment."

FOOTBALL DELIGHTS IN ERRINUNDERA
Local football star, pomaderrisa, dropped in to visit her family after a hectic three weeks abroad. She also dropped into our office where we heard the latest about her experiences in the World Cup squad.

"We finally had our first home game at Milosis Coliseum. The crowd response was awesome. Before the game the WC6 squad was presented to the crowd who just about brought down the stadium with their gorilla dancing and 'hoo, hoo, hooing'. melanoxylona and snapier are McKillopsians* so they got the biggest roar. They love snapier especially. Since hearing she is a refugee advocate, local membership of the Refugee Action Collective there has skyrocketed."

We asked her what it was like to get her first taste of international football in front of such a partisan mob. "Even though I was only a substitute it was really exciting. You know, with my first kick I passed the ball to antarcticad. To antarcticad! Me! I was in such a daze I wandered offside and prevented him from having a shot at goal. But I pulled myself together after that and got a few touches. Weren't his two goals amazing? I love it when he scores."

http://celebs.ceeby.com/actresses/images1/lisa.jpg

Speaking of which, we were keen to find out if being at home stopped her from continuing her researches with foreigners. Laughing: "I spent the night in the old palace with a couple of the Kaze Progressa guys. They were so sweet and loving."

STAR RIPS OPEN GAME IN 5 MINUTE BURST
After the disastrous experiment with several novice players in DePaul, fionar selected a full strength side to play Kaze Progressa before an enthusiastic crowd at Milosis Stadium in McKillops Bridge. It was the national team's first home game of WC7 after three on the road and they were keen not to disappoint supporters. "We let ourselves down in DePaul," said McKillopsian melanoxylona, "and this was the fans' first opportunity to see the squad together for over four years. I took part in the presentation of the WC6 squad prior to the match. The crowd gave me such a roar. I'll never forget it."

What fans will never forget from today was the performance of antarcticad. He is developing a reputation for lighting his fuse in big games. In just five minutes he detonated and blew the Kaze Progressa side away. In a tense first half in which neither side dominated the visitors came out ahead thanks to a late goal. Then, in the 51st and 55th minutes the bald one kicked two scintillating goals - the first one an exocet from the edge of the box and the second one a beautiful curling deceiver after a clever cross from longipesp. Kaze Progressa lost the initiative after that and spent the rest of the match focussing only on the brilliant Errinundrian forward.

Captain, moschatuma, returned from his layoff to play a typical game. Well, typical for him, that is, but exceptional for most other players. Thanks to the vocal crowd support local favourite, snapier, seemed to grow an extra pair of legs as she tirelessly patrolled the back line.

Coach, fionar, said that she had become over-confident in DePaul. "I must admit I had counted that match as a win before we arrived in the country. Playing so many inexperienced players at once was obviously wrong. Hey, I'm still learning too. It has to be said, though, that there was a plus out of that game: codith showed the necessary character to play well in difficult circumstances." She was very enthusiastic about the prospects for the side. "snapier is living up to all our expectations; regnanse is finally blossoming as a goalie - he is surprising everybody; moschatuma is at his renowned best; and antarcticad must be one of the top two or three strikers in the world. That is a formidable core of talent to build a side around."

From the sports pages of this mornings Scuttlebutt

The Minister of Statistics, Other Totally Useless Information, and Band-aids has compiled a list of all those teams participating in World Cup 7 Qualifying which, after 4 qualifying matches are complete, have a goal differential of 10 or more. These teams are:

*we find the minister of athletics, olympics, and alcoholic beverages sitting in his offices, on an impressive looking leather chair behind a very large, very ornate, mahogany desk. on the desk, along with his personal effects, is a cold beer - a "38 special", and a television. just behind the minister, and to his left, is margaret. margaret is wearing her burgundy robe, and her midnight blue hooded cape. in her left hand she is holding a rubber chicken by the neck. in her right hand she holds a small leather pouch, with two eagle feathers tied to it with a silver string. she is making gestures with the leather pouch in the general direction of what appears to be some kind of marble sideboard – or is it an altar? the television is on.*

- Margaret! It’s so exciting! The Hooligans just scored a goal!
- Who scored?
- The Hooligans, Margaret. I just said that.
- No, I mean which Hooligan scored the goal, ya little dope.
- There is no need to be rude, Margaret.
- Who scored!!
- It was Knuckles. Something about a PK? What’s a “PK”?
- That’s a Penalty Kick. (aside, to herself – How did he ever get this job?)
- Why were we penalized?
- Please, lord…no, you see, we were not penalized – Antaeus Rising must have been penalized for a foul in the box, and we get to take a penalty kick.
- a chicken in a box?
- (aside, to herself – How am I not going to kill him?) Not a chicken – an illegal play of some kind.
- Oh…they did say something about a defender taking down one of the Hooligans.
- Well, that would be the foul, you see, and if it was in the box, then we get awarded a Penalty Kick.
- Why don’t they call it an “Award” Kick?
- Shut up.

*the minister shuts up. we hear the television*

…find themselves down 1 to 0 at half time. Okay, now, everybody take a deep breath and count to 10. This is a home match for the Snub Nose 38 Hooligans, and the Hooligan Cheerleaders have been released from jail, so --- here they come.

“Snub Nose! Hurrah! Hooligans! Hooray!!
Anteaus Falling and slipping away!!
Thirty Eight Special, going down smooth
Anteauth Falling ith going to looth!!
Yeah, HOOLIGANS!!”

- Oh, Margaret! Look! They’re doing that ritual again where the crowd feeds the Cheerleaders!
- That’s what you think is happening there, is it? You’re looking right at it, and that’s what you think.
- Well, sure. They’re giving them food.
- They’re drubbing them with rotten vegetables, you knit!

*we have to leave for a bit – nature calls. when we come back, we find the minister still glued to the television, and margaret still supplicating the random number gods sacrificially – with the rubber chicken. we hear the aspn announcer*

…another score for the Snub Nose 38 Hooligans! That was fabulous! Did you see that! I can’t believe it! That was…it…a person just can’t do that! Magificent!

* we see – nothing, because the television is facing the minister, and away from us. we wish we could see it. it sounds like it was a great play. maybe we’ll catch a replay on the news tonight.*

So it’s Hooligans 2, Anteaus Rising 0 here in the 76th minute. Here’s the Anteaus Rising side starting play again. They pass the ball…

*the television goes off. the minister slaps it. it stays off. he slaps it again. it still stays off. he shakes it. it goes “phiztt”, but stays off.*

- Margaret! The TV wont work!
- I’m busy over here, bub. Call maintenance.
- Who?
- We have a maintenance staff here in the building. Call them.
- How?
- Use the flippin’ phone.
- What’s the number?
- Bonehead.

*margaret dials up maintenance, and asks them to come fix the ministers television. she hangs up, glares at the minister, who looks defiantly back, and goes back to her sacrificial supplication of the random number gods. the rubber chicken is just hummin’ away. a maintenance guy finally arrives, and looks over the situation. he slaps the tv. nothing. he shakes it. nothing. he follows the wire to the electrical outlet, and plugs it back in. it comes on.*

…by Knuckles in the 92nd minute. The Anteaus Rising side restarts play. Their Striker passes the ball back to their Center Midfielder. The Center Midfielder loops a long pass up towards the Hooligans net – and there’s the whistle! Final score –

ANTEAUS RISING 0 – SNUB NOSE 38 HOOLIGANS 3

That’s all for today, folks. The Hooligans remain in first place in Qualifying Group 11. We’ll see you for the next match, right there in 38 Special Stadium against Gesamtkunstwerk. ‘Night, now.

- I missed it, Margaret!
- Look, will you please be quite over there, and let me get on with this?
- But they already won.
- That’s only the half-way point, friend. Five matches down, but five to go. I’m workin’ on Gesamtkunstwerk.
- Don’t swear!
- You are truly without a clue, aren’t you?

I will put in a match Rp, but for now

Belmore go top
after 4 straight wins TBF are now second in their group, only 3 points behind number 1 seeds Quohog.
We now look like going through easily in second, but if we beat Quohog, maybe 1st.

TIMWAY THROTTLES THE GOD SQUAD

Avowedly atheist nation Timway shutout God Squad today by a score of 4-0. Coach Pablo Rolla, just two days removed from rumours of his dismissal after a lost to unseeded Oddslavo, had this to say about his team's performance: "We really found our rhythem over the past two games. I don't ever recall a time when we have been so dominant as the past two days." For those with a short memory, Timway yesterday defeated Zihka by a score of 4-1. Timway has now allowed a mere five goals in the past four games, while they have notched 14 tallies in the same span. A tough match at TnUI is next on the schedule for the Tigers, as they attempt to avenge a dreadful performance in the qualifying stage's opening game.

Meanwhile, Group 15 has become a three horse race, with TnUI having 15 points, Oddslavo 12, and Timway 9. All other teams have three points, with a spectacularly bad GD to boot. However, Timway's team is said to be in high spirits, as unranked Oddslavo is prone to inconsistency and could very well fall upon a losing streak when facing the weaker teams of the group.
