OOC If you say "goddess of love", she's going to run away. BTW it should be noted I have nothing against real life Ishtar worshippers, whatever interpretation they are giving to being that. She opened the door of a large building, and let her guests go in first. There were huge trapezoid windows with abstract patterns of colored glass. Once inside, she began her stream of facts: "This is the temple to Sol. The sun of Fir!n of course isn't Sol (the sun of Earth). Sol is a symbol for the source of all light, where light is a symbol for knowledge..."

Her WMDA beeped, she quickly hit the "silent" button. "Oops..." She read the message, which made her want to sqee and jump up and down, something she couldn't do in this environment.

We wanted to tell you this in person, but things are happening a bit more quickly than we expected. You have been promoted to second class diplomat. Establishing diplomatic relations with the ASEF Allegiance is now your responsibility. Their diplomats will arrive shortly.

The kewen, while walking had studied each and every planet, even so much as to touch every last one, even after being warned of the effects, as each plant was touched, the informatino of its genetic structure was added to the kewen knoledge and antidotes were being built by the bodies, so even if they were posiones in about two to three minutes it would be harmless to kewen.

"Such a incredibly, diverse and wonderful life you have on this planet, by far the most diverese we have seen, This isnt natural i am assuming?" The Kewen, which had been on the planet for time out of mind spoke up to aniska?

"I think you will understand by now that I am looking for beings that understand what Fir!n is, and why it has to stay that way. I offer my help to them, hoping that they will help Fir!n when necessary.
If you want to accept this offer, I would like to discuss how I could help you. For example I could have a small number of beings as students, or you could bring problems that need solving to me."

But the trend is that these attacks by beings that don't belong here are becoming more difficult to defend against. The humans and hybrids try to convince other beings to consider Fir!n a place of peace, and to place important beings here. This is useful, but I believe a stronger type of mutual benefit is needed."

"I, that is, me, Aniska, would like to add that it seems Fir!n only suffers from random attacks. Compared to other planets I have seen, trying to steal the small amount of natural resources we have is not worth the difficulties the Fir!nans have created against it. Considering the wealth she is offering in exchange for help in case of an unlikely event, I think it's an insane deal. But she wants it like that, she says that teaching and problem solving make her life more entertaining so she doesn't require anything else."

Aniska replied first, then forwarded the question to the Fir!nan.

"I know it is even more sudden for you than for the others. They were invited to come study Fir!n and could have expected something. You just showed up, and someone who had no idea what was really going on sent you to me.
Of course you don't have to say yes or no now, nor does anyone else.
To be honest I wasn't very happy to have you added to the group, but I could not do anything against it. Now I have of course changed my mind..."

The answer from the Fir!nan: "Potential threat, yes. Imminent threat, not at all. Maybe what the humans and hybrids are doing is enough. Maybe it has finally become common knowledge it's useless and dangerous to attack us. I don't know. But look at the beautiful things I and other Fir!nans have made and tell me you don't think they're worth preserving. And consider how good it would be for your group if they could do the things I can. I think if I would help you that way, you would want to ensure my continued existence even if I made you pay for it - instead I offer it all for nothing."

Aniska shook her head. "I can't make her understand she's more likely to be trusted if she doesn't give away the main prize for nothing. Solitary creature, you see... And she's the boss. Lucky for you, though."

As the group arrived at the landing pad, Commodore Traken thought that one of the figures on the ramp of the diplomatic cruiser looked familiar. "Arvius Traken." said the figure, "It's nice to see you again after all that time."
"Maverick Rengald? I didn't quite expect to see you here." replied Commodore Traken, "How did the negotiations for the Northern Rim Alliance go? And who's that besides you?"
"It actually went relatively well. And this is Galern, a member of the Calamarian species who was chosen to represent the ASF Alliance along with me."
"Greetings, Commodore Traken." said Galern.
"Hello to you as well." replied Commodore Traken, "So, anyways, Mav, I'll assume that I've been recalled back to Alpha 10?"
"Not exactly. You're actually supposed to act as our guard force while we're here."
"Don't you already have your own security forces?"
"Of course. But the High Council seemed... particularly insistent on this, for some reason. Even Avant agreed to the request that your group be kept as security. Could be because your group's somewhat more heavily armed than ours. It's unusual, sure, but then, one does not question High Council commands."
"Well, I don't mind, of course. Sen, in case you're confused what's going on, this is Maverick Rengald, senior diplomat and a good friend of mine. We were classmates back on Tyenne Academy on Siruen. Maverick, this is Sen, our guide for the last... half-hour or so."

"Not too nearby. We did run into some kind of ambush while coming here, but that was in the frontier regions of our own territory, which is at least a few hundred thousand light years from here. What happened was that about a week ago, a high-level diplomatic convoy protected by a rather heavy escort -- two MC80a Star Cruisers, a Broadside Missile Cruiser, and two Assassin-class corvettes -- got pulled out of hyperspace by a mercenary interdictor about two light years from a international warp gate that connects the Alpha-10 system with hundreds of other systems for trade purposes. Obviously the escorts aren't actually allowed to go through that gate, so they pull back once the convoy is in-system and secure. Anyways, the convoy was attacked by a rather massive combined pirate/mercenary force. Even with the help of the responding international patrol craft, we still weren't able to fight off the attack. We actually had to send in one of our Executor-class Star Dreadnaughts, the Angel Of Death from the ASN 5th Fleet, before the pirate/mercenary fleet would retreat. The escorts were rather heavily damaged in the attack, and had to pull back, while the diplomatic convoy had to rely on the international patrol ships for escort into the gate area. Obviously, our High Council, or what your nation might call a cabinet, was rather shaken by the attack. The pirates have been more bold lately, as well, despite the increase in patrol forces around the border regions. A rather disturbing turn of events, you might say." He paused for a moment.

"Oh, I nearly forgot that I never really had a chance to formally introduce myself. I am Maverick Rengald, Senior Diplomat for the ASF Alliance."

OOC We're getting close to the end of my list of "things that must happen". But here's a little improvisation... Kewen, I hope you don't mind I've decided for you that you're looking around the city without a guide.

After Aniska, Jonathan and the little girl had went home (ooc and from there Aniska went to the spaceport, see above), two men who looked strangely out of place passed the Kewen in the streets. There was something military about them, perhaps because they automatically synchronized their steps, but they were dressed in civilian clothing, however not the style of Fir!n. They stopped to talk with a child.

"What is your name? Are there any new children in the neighborhood?"

One of them grabbed the child by the chin, and had a good look at its face. Then, they just walked away, looking for another child to ask the same question to.

The kewen turned a corner, before coming back around and following the men, each time they were notcied they would drop behind a corner and come back as someone different.

Rose finished up her conversation with ship and council. Her orders were to learn a bit more about these people before going off and signing a 'we'll come to your rescue whenever' treaty. The only races Greywatch ever did that with were close friends and those actually apart of the Greywatch empire, excpetion being the Angenterians. But no matter, the council had given her permission to go along with giving out an NAP. Depending on what else she was able to learn about these people, a trade agreement might be in order, which would then give Greywatch more of a reason to help the Fir!nans in the future. But only time would tell...

One of them intentionally sneezed in the face of one of the guards, and in the following confusion they managed to wrestle themselves free. They ran after the "girl", and themselves were followed by the guards.

Aniska and a few helpers the princess had hired were busy welding the engines from a freighter into a slightly damaged luxury ship. The princess herself was sitting on top of the broken original engine from the yacht, watching the work. She now looked very much like a hybrid child.

She took a look at the two men, before again running around a corner, but found it a dead end, then she saw the too men come around the corner.
In a small frightened voice she asked "Why?"

A broad smile appeared on the girls face, the eyes flashed a pale blue before she turned bright silver, then a dull silver two forms stepped out of the body, features rapidly comming to fruit facil hair, eyes everyone, in the space of ten seconds two full sized men stood where one little girl was before.

"Excellent, you have served your purpose well." With that, one of them lept at the men for a killing blow, while the other attempted to take one to the ground for interogation.

One of the guards had figured out where the men had disappeared to, and climbed over the wall.

With a nod, Rose left and returned to her room. She thought a little more to herself, these people didn't too bad, but she really wanted to know if there was anything they could offer that would make worth Greywatch's while. She didn't want to be harsh, but she did have to admit that with Greywatch being an alliance of muiltiple races, they had a lot of things covered, which made trading with others a little difficult at times. But it was too early to judge, she'd spend some time going over the Fir!nan's offer and eventually would see if it was ultimately worth it or not.

"That was our intention all along, now leave us be they will live, we guarentee it" one of them said, while the other plunged his hand into the live captives chest, it didnt peirce the skim but more like melt into it, cause extreme pain but no actually physical pain.

On a table was a pillow with three eggs on top of it. "Hi Rose, you're a bit early but I'm ready here so that's fine" said Aniska. "Please have a seat.

She used a special needle to make a tiny hole in one of the eggs, then stung her own finger and pressed it against the hole.
"The nanos respond to signals emitted by my nerves, I can control them at a short distance outside my body."
She pushed her other hand against the egg, and concentrated for a minute.
"Like this."
She removed both hands, the hole had disappeared.
"Quite simple on the outside, isn't it? It's almost as if the Fir!nans tried to imitate your encryptic energy."
She repeated the process for the other two. "And now I'm officially pregnant."

Rose took a seat when asked to and listened as Aniska explained what she was doing to the eggs. "That's certainly different than anything else I've seen in my lifetime." She found the whole process rather interesting, even if it was a little difficult to understand. "So this is how all your kind have their children? Very different from anything else indeed..." Rose found herself curious as to Aniska's statement about encryption, "Imitate it?"

Without a double set of each, they won't develop. After what I just did, their fir!nan half became a clone of mine, and their human half is still a random mixture of both of us."

To some extent she did indeed see the similarities, though she was also aware of the differences. "Thank you, I think I understand now what you meant." Rose wondered if she should explain Encryption and Cryption in more detail but something else came to mind first. "If I may ask, is a relationship like this rare? I notice you have multiple young at once... how exactly does one prevent over population?"

"Lies" one of them hissed, and push his hand deeper increasing the imaginary pain, that wasnt really there or was it? "If you were entrusted to kidnap a princess tell us why, and who for!"

Rose smiled at the conversation between mother and daughter, and found it humorous how she'd been worrked into the conversation. She waited until they were done before addressing Aniska. "Yes, it is quite something. Encryption itself is not unique to my species, though we are the best at using this particular form of it. Encryption in itself is just a non-hostile form of Cryptic energy, and one has to drop hostility in order to use it well. We Leanorians are trained from a young age to control our emotions so that we can concentrate on the Encryptive arts to the fullest capacity. But Encryption is not something that only serves the saints. In actuality, this art has a darker past. If you wish to hear it, I'd be glad to share it with you."

The two kewen, who had left the guard with the prisnor had been stumbling around the place, looking for something interesting or even something to do homeing in on the commotion, they decided to be suss, and assumed the form a two scruffy dogs, and walked around the corner, they saw Aniska and a ship, slowly plodding forward one of them barked.

Rose nodded, "I'll be sure to keep that in mind. But I suppose it is best to start somewhere near the beginning of the story. Encryption had not always been, it was orignially developed by the Elden, my ancestors. These ancients, who resemble humans a fair amount, were themselve desendant of demons. These said demons were said to be the first users of elemental Cryptic energy, Cryption being the hostile form. They specialized in fire, ice, and darkness, if I remember correctly. The Elden, who broke off and evolved, learned to broaden the amount of elements one could control with Cryption. Elden were able to do many things: Fire, water, earth, and air. I'm sure you've heard of these so called key elements? The Elden went further and developed attacks that could utilize the elements of their ancestors as well as things like electricity, plant growth, and even making solid barriers out of nothing at all. But soon after, the Elden found that there was no need to fight all the time, and they began crafting their abilities to serve peaceful and helpful purposes. Manipulating the landscape was among the first things Elden did with their new abilities, a power that came to be known as Encryption. There are many things Encryption can do, and the ability quickly began falling to the use of all sorts, espescially assassins. You see, Encryption is a protective art, but it doesn't differenciate between good and evil. An assassin who wishs to can merge their body with a nearby shadow, protecting themselves from detection, and then leap to strike whenever they need to. And that is how it has been used in the past. Encryption, in the past, has been to Cryption armor is to weapons. When we Leanorians came about, we learned that we lacked the ability to use the other elements, but instead had somehow been granted our own. This was the 'Light' element which granted us our own unique set of skills." Rose paused, she'd got through quite a bit. "Any questions? Rose gave a grim smile, "I find it suprising how few races have come into contact with them, they are quite real and very dangerous." Rose smiled as Aniska touched her throat, without any hesitation Rose repeated the same process she'd done before. After that was done, she took something out of her own robes, it looked like some folded up bandages. They were completely white except for the dimly glowing blue runes on them, Rose held them out. "I made these for you, enchanted bandages. Wrap them around your neck and they will automatically heal your voice. I had some spare time and decided to put some of my skills to use..." She looked to the little girl, "Well now, it seems you're about to embark on quite the journey. I do hope we meet again." Rose took something else out from her robes, two items. One was a small disk, "This is a starmap with the Greywatch system that is home to my world marked on it." The other device looked like a small crystal necklace, "If you ever feel inclined to visit me, simply use the necklace to contact me and I'll be sure to tell the orbital defense to allow you to pass." She gave a soft smile.

She explained: "There are two different metals on the outside of the pin, creating a weak battery when it gets wet, which provides electricity to the green light. She took a small plastic container with a grey matter in it from another drawer: "Be careful with this. These are nanobots that will change metal objects into powder, and then destroy evidence of their own existence. Please make sure nobody finds out what they are, and especially from who you got them. Otherwise the Council would find itself forced to remove the cloaking layer from all our diplomatic ships because those are supposed to be unarmed. I hope it will be useful against those demons."
Aniska removed her own necklace, a small white flower in a drop of glass-like material. "This is completely useless, but it's pretty and I'd like you to have it."
As a final gift, she gave Rose a hug.

As soon as she'd just gotten through putting the items away and placing Aniska's necklace around her own neck, she felt Aniska's arms wrap around her. Rose hugged back, "I'm looking forward to it."

She gave a slight laugh as Aniska mentioned giving up on Cryption, "It's difficult to understand how something like Cryption works, many of us Cryption users just accept it for what it is. There are not very many who try to actually study it." Rose shrugged, a mysterious gift, that was really the only way to look at it. "But, I woul dlove to see this ship of yours."

OOC: It's not exactly part of the standard set of tools TFP diplomats carry with them, Aniska reprogrammed some of the cloaking/self healing armor nanos that are on the outside of TFP ships. She can't tell any TFP people about this invention because diplomats are required to be unarmed, and going into space without weapons and armor, while visible, is a very unhealthy idea.

She thought about the Xarniosi for a moment, how they would love to study and work on a ship like this, tinkering with everything an dupgrading it. Firna isn't trying to make Wolf marry her if that's what you're thinking. She can't do that because:

(1) after spending about a year away, she will miss Fir!n so much she'll get suicidal if she can't go back for a year (this instinct was created by the Fir!nans to make sure the hybrids would serve their intended purpose)

(2) even with the open style of Wolf and his wives, she will feel too restricted.

But can one ever be sure one has written a program that has real feelings rather than just a method to fake them? The answer is that we don't even try to program the core of what makes feelings. Things like friendship and humor can be explained, but feeling itself cannot.
We were very surprised when we discovered that feeling doesn't need to be taught. Providing a sufficiently strong ability to interact with the world and learn from it without following predefined rules is enough. And a machine that has these abilities doesn't learn to feel from its interactions, it has feelings from the start.
We think this is because a soul will connect to any physical object that won't restrict its free will too much, but of course the whole concept of 'soul' is unprovable. Maybe feelings are simply the result of sufficient complexity, we'll never know.
Anyway, it's attempts to program it to feel that make it impossible for a machine to feel. Either the fake feelings restrict free will, or by being distinguishable from a random effect, which our feelings might also be, they are known to be not real whereas we don't know this about our 'real' feelings.
