This is the last bit of my introduction, after this my main characters will be in a job position in which they can fly around the universe freely, meaning I will be able to join other threads instead of only playing in my own.

Please note that if you participate in this thread, that means you're an ally or at least a friendly guest - if you were hostile, I wouldn't have told you where my planet is! Your characters would most likely be scientists or diplomats, but feel free to throw unexpected things at me, as long as they don't force me to leave the planet immediately.

IC:

Debriefing... Aniska hated debriefing. So boring. She and Jonathan walked into the Council Hall side by side, but keeping a distance that shouldn't make anyone suspect anything. They were supposed to hate each other, after all. She looked around, and saw some aliens she had met on her last mission (good!), some that looked similar to others she had met, and some that looked completely unfamiliar. She noticed a little human girl, which looked extremely bored. Who on Fir!n would take a child to a Council meeting? Weird. The child noticed her, and gave her a big smile. Seems like a charming kid, though.

Lady Natalia asked the gathered sentient creatures to be quiet, and read the first point on the agenda.

"Response to behavior of the diplomats Aniska and Jonathan."

The mentioned looked at each other, both had a clear "WTF?" look on their face.

N: "We have read your reports with great interest, and must now decide what to do with you. On one hand, you have found more allies on your last mission than anyone ever did. On the other hand, you seem to have broken more laws than we were aware existed!"

J: "Excuse me, most honored Lady, but what do you mean? My report mentions nothing illegal!"
A: "Neither does mine!"

N: "And that just adds to the problem we have here. How come you two are helping each other?"

Aldis Hendren looked out the porthole into the vast emptiness of space. He could never sleep on flights and the last jump messed with his stomach. It didn't happen before and this worried him. He was accustomed to space flight, maybe it was the meal. Aldis was new to the diplomatic corp for the Confederacy of Kulikovia, several loosely united colonies of humanoids. It was an esteemed position that he worked quite hard for and being intelligent and cunning, he managed to acquire this post.

"The Confederate Assembly will be pleased" Kara Zerak said as she took a seat opposite him. She looked out the same port hole and shrugged, "Always looks the same to me"

"We can only hope that our case doesn't get stalled by Assemblyman Tybalt, he's our main opponent with the alliance proposal" Aldis responded, turning his attention to his aide.

"Don't worry, we just have to worry about the other end of the table" Kara smiled. TFP diplomats can be quite...unorthodox, I must say"

"Indeed. Lady Aniska certainly struck me as a rebel to the establishment" Aldis admitted. It was an admirable quality to question authority but political tact requires that you sometimes adhere to certain protecals.

"Mr.Hendren, we'll be entering their sphere in one hour" said the pilot over the intercom.

"Good" Aldis said aloud but to no one in particular, "All we have to do is finalize it with Lady Aniska and Sir Jonathan and we can return to the Kulikovia"

"I'll get the paperwork in order" Kara replied and stood up to get her case with the paperwork.

Aldis, Kara, and the whole Confederacy knew how important it was to ally themselves with the remaining splintered clusters of humans spread out through the galaxy. Retaining ties with them helped solidify their identity and guarranteed protection and unity from other alien races.

Damn. The chances of the shit missing the fan are remarkably small now. We're supposed to dislike each other, so every misbehavior will surely be reported. Us helping each other means we probably lied in the selection, which in turn means we're probably working for someone else than the Council.

"Helping each other?"
"Treason!"
"Treason?"

A: "Hey! You take that back! You know very well that the Fir!nans created us hybrids incapable of betraying Fir!n!"

"She's right."
"Maybe she is a mutant?"
"The Council and Fir!n aren't the same thing..."
"What do you mean?"
"I don't know."

Oh no. Shut up now, before they figure out how close to the truth that random idea was...

N: "Order!... Now, I'm sure you wonder how we figured out your reports weren't honest. The one written by Aniska is exactly what we expected: short, and without any mention of Jonathan doing anything wrong. The one written by Jonathan was as long and detailed as we expected, but said Aniska behaved perfectly... which is not how we know YOU."

Jonathan turned away from Aniska and bit his fist.

N: "So, we decided to talk with one of the new allies you sent to us... who I cannot name because they decided to hide their princess on Fir!n."

The Fifth Empire. How could I have been so stupid not to explain to them what not to tell?

N: "Apparently, you have used your ship as a weapon."

That instant, all high priests and priestesses started talking to each other.

N: "Order! Do you deny it?"

Appeal to reason now...

A: "If I had not defended them, the princess and the people accompanying her would have been slaves now, or worse. And that would have been my fault. With all due respect, the law is wrong."

A human priest stood up: "Then we shall re-evaluate the law in another meeting. The current matter is that you broke it."

A human priestess: "I propose we fire both, and give them a punishment in task form. To imprison them would be unfair, since they did a lot more good than harm."

A hybrid priest: "Since both apparently care a lot about the well-being of that princess, may I suggest these two are given the task of serving and protecting her?"

A: "WHAT? I'd much rather go to prison than..."
Aniska noticed tears appeared in the eyes of the little girl she had noticed earlier. Oh, I see... Her compassion-instincts took over.
A: "... than I would dispute the wisdom of that idea."
She sent the kid a silent apology.

N (quite relieved she could keep her adoptive daughter out of worse trouble): "Excellent. All in favor? Decision made. The next point: it seems Aniska promised some aliens to accompany them while doing scientific research on our planet. Those are here now, and all still employed diplomats are away on missions..."

"Good" Aldis said aloud but to no one in particular, "All we have to do is finalize it with Lady Aniska and Sir Jonathan and we can return to the Kulikovia"

OOC: Unless Aniska decided to save you from some mean aliens while Jonathan was talking with you, you'd finalize whatever it is with only one of them. One diplomat does the talking, the other just observes and preferably doesn't even get noticed. Anyway, welcome to the thread!

Actually, if "it" is simply an alliance, you'd finalize it with the Council.

A small ship appeared near the Kulikovian ship, and hailed it.


Good day and welcome. You have entered space belonging to The Free Priesthood. You're expected, please follow me.

A small kewen vessel appeared in the Firn homesystem, to an outsiders look it would appear as if someone had tipped a bucket of sand over and the grains of sand to fine for the eyes to see fell into place and formed a single 1km ship.

The ship took its bearings and then sat waiting for directions inside a small shuttle was being prepared for the kewen delegate while powerful passive and non-passive sensors scanned the system for threats.

"Wait a minute. That decision came way too quickly. I sense favoritism!"

N: "On the contrary. I just let you fire two of our best diplomats, which is a lot worse than they deserve if the reasons and consequences of their actions are taken into account. You wanted their blood, and you got it."

"What about the princess? Aren't we insulting an ally by letting two people we just fired take care of her?"

N: "That is point 15 on the agenda: who is to be assigned the task of taking care of the princess? We can skip to that for the moment... Most esteemed princess, do you have any preference?"

X: "Aniska!"

N: "Well, that's settled then. You two, start working on your new job now."

Aniska and Jonathan sat down next to the little girl, which had opened a small laptop-like device. Aniska felt a little pinch in her arm, which was the way her WMDA warned her about incoming messages when switched to silent mode.


Xani: Hi!
Aniska: Hello. Why do you want me to look after you? I know I saved you once, but down here on the planet, things are very different.
Xani: I don't want to stay on this planet.
Aniska: I'm sorry, but I don't think we're going anywhere. I lost my job, so I don't have a ship anymore, and it was a one person ship anyway.
Xani: A few days ago, a freighter and a yacht crashed into each other. I bought the wrecks, the engines of the freighter and the hull of the yacht seem fine. Do you want to have them? (see attachment)


Aniska had a quick look at the data she received.


Aniska: You just gave me the parts for the fastest ship ever built on this planet!
Xani: Do I get a hug?
Aniska: You bet. But after this meeting ends...


Meanwhile, the members of the Council were arguing about who should guide the alien scientists through the forests, and not getting near reaching a conclusion.

The Kulikovian ship was guided to a landing site. A human in simple grey uniform approached Aldis and Kara, checked their identities, and asked them to follow.

"Did you have a pleasant flight? Todays council meeting has already begun, and the next one is in two weeks. It seems the diplomat who contacted you is being fired, so you probably want to join this meeting. Follow me..."

A patrol ship noticed the Kewen.


Unidentified ship, you have entered Free Priesthood space. Please identify, and explain your reason for being here.

The ship replied quickly
"We are the kewen, we met with your diplomats aniska and jonothan not long ago"

"The KEWEN? My God. Just a second..."

"I have been able to confirm your identity. Welcome to Fir!n, please follow me, a special welcome committee will be waiting for you."

OOC: The visiting Kewen probably don't know it, but their relatives saved the ancestors of the humans (and hybrids) now living on Fir!n.

"Fired?" Aldis questioned, "What is the problem?" the two delegates continued and fell behind their grey suited welcomer and moved through the corridors, leaving their ship behind.

"I told you these...people play hard when it comes to dplomacy" Kara smirked

A Greywatch Explorer vessel pulled out of PSR travel into the Fir!n system with its signature gravity disturbance. Yet another system, but was there anything of interest here? Well, only time would answer that question. The Greywatch vessel began conducting scans for anything that could be seen as interesting.

Kulikovia:

"Apparently she broke the rules a bit too much... I don't know."

A group carrying a red carpet came running from the opposite direction.

"What's going on?"
"Kewen visitors. Invited by Lady Aniska. The Council is going to go nuts when they find out they just fired the diplomat who reestablished contact with our old allies."
"KEWEN you say? My God. That's going to be a situation indeed. Go on, hurry up."

Yet another patrol ship hailed the Explorer.


Good day. You have entered Free Priesthood space, please identify yourself and explain why you're here. You seem to be causing gravity waves - please be careful with those, there is a minefield around the planet and you wouldn't want to disturb that.

A messenger quietly sneaked into the Council Hall, and whispered in the ear of Lady Natalia, who then interrupted the current speaker.

N: "I'm sorry, we'll have to delay the rest of this meeting. We have Kewen visitors, invited by Aniska."

For a moment the room went quiet. Then all almost at the same time: "KEWEN???"

Aniska couldn't help but giggle about the response to the little surprise she had set up. The timing was perfect, the Council would find itself forced to give her a special position right after firing her. That served the old fossils right.

"That's a shame" Aldis admitted. It came as an irritation. He had spoken with her about brokering the alliance between TFP and The Confederate Planets. To suddenly change up the order in the middle of a deal like this seemed quite unwise in his opinion. His major concern was the hopefully no conditions, stipulations, and agreements will remain the same.

"Bad luck for her, I'm afraid" Kara said, "What will become of her?

This is a Greywatach Explorer. As such, we are here because it is our mission to find new worlds and meet new races. As for the gravitational disturbance, that is something that happens to come with our primary method of travel. The disturbance should have subsided by now.

The ship was unphased by the speedy appearance of the patrol craft, PSR wasn't exactly unnoticeable. Now, to wait for a reply...

Kulikovia:

"I'm not sure what's going to happen. On one hand, if one combines the new information that she found the Kewen (without which there wouldn't have been people on this world) with the number of civilizations she contacted on her last mission, she clearly deserves a promotion. On the other, she can't get that promotion because she just lost her job, and the Council is very unlikely to revert such a decision. Another complication is that they decided she should babysit some foreign princess... It's a mess. We're here. Oh, it looks like everyone is leaving to see the Kewen guests... But the people you want are still here."
He pointed at Lady Natalia, who was talking to Aniska.

N: "That's a fine mess you caused. I've done my best to prevent investigations into why you chose Jonathan as your opponent-diplomat."

Aniska got all red. "You figured it out?"

N: "Of course, you can't fool me. I've known you since I adopted you. I think Jonathan is a great choice, but you shouldn't have abused the system to get him. Do you have any idea how the Council would have responded if they had figured out exactly how much you disrespect the laws?"

A: "I'm sorry."

N: "You'd better be. Don't think I'm going to help you get rid of the burden of looking after that kid."

A: "She's not a burden, I think we're going to be best friends. She gave me parts for a ship..."

N: "Gods, I can't believe how every problem turns out to be a blessing in disguise for you. One more thing... what on Fir!n are you planning to do with those scientists?"

Aniska whispered the answer.

Natalia shook her head. "You impossible creature. You're always full of surprises."

They saw Kara and Aldis approach. Aniska introduced them.

N: "Ah yes, the Confederate Planets. The Council has already approved most of your file, but you might want to re-think what kind of agreement you're entering. I can't blame Aniska for not noticing it, she's not a paper-pusher like me, but from your wording it appears you're under the impression we have a war fleet. Because of religious reasons, all our ships are unarmed, our defenses are... less traditional..."

Greywatch:


Welcome! We don't often see explorers in our area... or anyone else we didn't invite, for that matter. I'm sure you will find our little planet very interesting.

Please power off all your weapons systems (I will scan to check) and follow me.

The captain of the ship looked to tactical. The tactical officer nodded and all weapons were powered down. The shields remained up, but that was just protocol. The captain leaned back in his chair, "Looks like the start of soemthing beautiful."

Aye, sorry about the sudden appearance then, but you never know when someone's going to show up in this universe, eh? Weapons have been powered down. Lead the way.

As the ship followed the patrol, its sensors registered a kewen contact on the planet odd the capitan thought but they registered it a malfunction.

Deep down somewhere under tree
a small screen flashed on and green text scrolled across the screen.
"Handshake protocols accepted. Source identified : kewen origion.
prepare wake up procedures we are home"
The four kewen went through wake up procedures similar to that of the one on earth many many years ago. while the s,all antimattter bombs were being charged.

The ship was led to a landing site. A hybrid in the standard simple grey uniform greeted the beings that emerged from it and quickly checked for large weapons.

"Welcome, please follow me. I'm sorry if things will appear a bit chaotic the next few days, we're having unexpected important guests.
I heard someone is going to show some special nature to some alien scientists, if you wish I can find out if that's still going to happen and, if so, try to get you into that group."

Lady Natalia and a few high priests and priestesses, all dressed in the prettiest clothes they had, welcomed the Kewen.

N: "It is a great honor to be highest priestess at the time the Kewen return to Fir!n. Please feel welcome, and..."

Her little speech was interrupted by a beep from her WMDA.


One of our satellites has detected an unknown big machine starting up on the opposite side of the planet. Looks like a buried spaceship to me.


N: "What on Fir!n..."


Send a team of engineers, and let them observe from a distance. Make sure they don't let the Fir!nans break anything.


"Sorry, where was I...?"

ZCM Scavenger warped in, it was a Modifier Class Destroyer, able to scavenge bits of enemy ships and attach it to itself, it was the first prototype.

The shuttle hatch opened and the rear door hit the ground with a soft thud for a moment a soft scuttling sound could be heard then the loud thunk of something large.

A man spider walked down the hatch its feet making smalll pitter patter noises as it walked down the map it was in the form Aniskia met then behind it two huminiod shapes followed it with no definable features along with three Large lumbering kewen in a deamonish form resembling that of the kewen who dropped the Humans off here many a year ago.

The spider was about to speak when the Lady Natalia spoke.
"you said return, that would imply we have been here before, and if we had been here before we would know it.And we do not forget things, care to explain what you mean?"

Maybe just maybe, had the fuse been a new one the bombs might of gone of but being buryed under soil twice for long periods of time and excposed to the forces of space the fuse for the bombs were very unreliable and so only 3 out of the 12 went off producing a mildly powerful earthquake on the surface along with creating several small fissures.


The spider form dropped the charraded and changed to one more humanish.
"Thats impossible! i was there when that ship launched! i watched it explode that project was a faliure! nothing succeded from that and maany lives were lost, you are mistaken it cannot be us"


ooc: for all intents and purposes the Inquisitioner and twelve otherships of its type all died horribly in explosions but actually made it! but noone knows.also we have huge lifespans we can only die by accidents/non exposure to our bodies.

Dyellians, Djels to anyone who had figured out they weren't actually human, were good natured parasites. Most people got along with them, yet they had a certain strong tendency of appearing in places they weren't invited or neccesarily wanted. Right now there was civil disturbance at home... so obviously the best way to quell that was to get something exciting going overseas (or offworld) that would distract the public from ideas such as insurrection.

They were a new race in the stars, but had taken to it like a duck to water. The ships were generally of a pretty similar shape. Kind of like a tube with a big engine at one end and a little one at the other. The middle section contained a small livable central section, along with the essential systems, then slots around this for modular supply, weapon or anything-else-you-could-think-of pods. It meant that over a 48 hour period a science research vessel could be converted into a destroyer with any number of different weapons arangements.

The particular one that showed up unannounced was not fitted out for war. It had a few light laser turrets on the pods (16 in total), but they mostly seemed to be plain supply pods (considering a destroyer hull could hold a theoretical maximum of 96 light turrets). Also, presumably out of some sense of politeness, it didn't wait for a hail before hailing,

Greetings unknown aliens. This is a Diplomatic vessel of the glorious kingdom of Dyelli Beybi. EXT... it is our intention to open up peaceful trade negotiations with alien races. We would like to request an audience in the gathering of which we have intercepted and decoded transmissions.

The Scavenger meanwhile powered up it's shields and 48 Mass Driver Cannons, 20 laser cannons, 2 Railguns, and variuos scavenged weapons..

The Dyellians immediately smelled a rat. They were good at spotting that sort of thing, they usually were the rat...

This is the HMSS City of Nicea. We will not deactivate weaponry without a positive identification from the planet belonging to the Nation known as 'The Free Priesthood'. Unidentified craft, state your business.

The city of Nicea was around 800 metres long and about 200 metres in diameter, which was exactly the size of every Dyellian destroyer. The rear half was one enormous mass of thrusters and engine, while the front eighth was similar. It looked like something built for speed (quite useful when making a quick getaway after upsetting the locals)...

To HMSS City of Nicea,
I am afraid that TFP is busy right now, though we can identify ourselves,
Ziolisian Combined Military "Scavenger" Modifier Class Destroyer,
made in the Veroen Forges of Itharin of the Nation Ziolis.

The three patrol ships, and two additional ones (it seemed like a busy day), were back in orbit.

Natalia shrugged. "Maybe those who saved our ancestors only claimed to be Kewen. That raises the questions why they would do that, and how they would know about a failed project of yours. I guess we'll never know.

They landed near the apparent source of the earthquake. As one they all turned towards a tiny sound that anyone who wasn't a Fir!nan or a hybrid wouldn't even have noticed. A Fir!nan had come to check out the noise.

The Explorer touched down, it didn't have any actual landing gear and instead used anti-grav systems to keep it a few meters off the ground. A Leanorian diplomat with a human bodyguard was blinked out of the ship, appearing in a flash of light. She looked around her, didn't seem like a bad place. The human stood clad in white armor, a pistol at his side. The human looked around, he was bald and slightly shorter than the person he was protecting. The Leanorian was holding only her staff and was dressed in the typical white diplomat uniform of Greywatch. Her golden fur shimmered in the light and she smiled as she saw a person approaching.
She listened intendly to the explaination of events and happenings. "I understand," she said in a gentle voice, "in that case I suppose I will join the nature tour. Assuming it's still available."

Greywatch:

"Very well, I will find out for you.
This way, please...
I'll get you documents describing our history and culture. In the meantime, feel free to look around and talk with anyone. But please, for your own safety, do not leave the city without a guide.

The two followed, the Leanorian looked around at her surroundings. She listened intently to the instruction given to her, "I understand, thankyou." Her bodyguard was slient and made sure to keep close. She thought to herself for a moment, "I would love to see this council meeting. We have a council back on Greywatch but they rarely show themselves to the public."

The crew of the 'City of Nicea' were surprised at being on a black list. Most people liked them. They were the galaxy's lovable villains... Just before they got bored though, someone finally gave permission to land.

The City of Nicea was not capable to land of itself. It was too big, too unwieldy in an atmosphere (it lacked the structural points that would keep it together), but what it did have was a shuttle it could dispatch to make planet fall with a select crew.

So it was that the City of Nicea sat in orbit while the shittle descended, aiming roughly for a starport near the meeting. Thinking the Dyellians were 'evil' in a classical sense was a mistake. They stuck by their allies with fearless loyalty... just not anyone else...

Onboard was Captain de Rosso; a short man, slender, dark. He fingered his prayer beads idly as the craft descended. Aliens... foreigners were bad enough, but aliens? He did not know exactly what to expect upon planet fall, but the Dyellians were ready. Were it to be peaceful negotiations or instant war or anything in between, the Dyellians were ready...

A patrol ship guided the shuttle through the minefield, and to the parking area, which was a large flat rocky area of about 100 square km just outside the city. A hybrid welcomed them:

"Sorry we had to make you wait. Apparently one of our allies wants a large sum of money from you. Don't worry, we're not going to try to extract it from you, we'll just... make sure you pay for everything. This way please..."

"We are Fir!nan/human hybrid engineers. We don't know who you are, it was just a guess. The year is [insert some correct number here]. The humans are in the city on the other side of the planet, and so are the other Kewen."

"Um, okay... Still, we would prefer that you let us transport you through the air, if you damage the plants and trees here some creatures will get really pissed off and attack you. Also, you can't walk over us, we're flying."

A few black balls where thrown from a place where nobody appeared to be standing, and landed on the tank. Out of those came swarms of tiny spiders, many of which were killed by the shield. A few got through and started eating anything not made of metal, and multiplying like crazy. Soon there were some short-circuits, and a bit later the spiders were inside...

"Byebye mr Artificial Intelligence, it was nice knowing you... *giggle*"

Natalia reopened the meeting. These Council meetings could sometimes take days, which is why only one was scheduled for every two weeks.
She noticed some of the new guests, and two humans she had not expected: Xani and Jonathan. If those two were here, where was Aniska? She saw Xani wore a collar box (ooc device for voice amplification among other things), probably the one belonging to Aniska. The little girl intended to speak. Interesting. Natalia also noticed the way Jonathan looked at Xani: like a teacher would watch a student... Very interesting.

N: "Please note the new point on the agenda, the matter of the Kewen and the Kewen. It will be discussed second. First, we will continue the debate about who is to act as a guide for the scientists who have come here by invitation of our former diplomat Aniska."

Jonathan said "Now!" and lifted the little girl so she would be more visible. The young voice rang through the Council Hall:

X: "Yesterday I saw you could not think of anyone with the proper education who is also available. Today won't be different. To solve the problem for you, I offer the services of my employees Jonathan and Aniska."

"They're not your employees, we assigned the task of helping you to them."

X: "Sure they are my employees, you fired them, which made it possible for me to hire them."

"Jonathan, it's clear you're behind this. What if we rehire you?"

J: "Sorry, she pays more. Go on, kid."

X: "Please remember that I am the representative of a powerful ally, and that to refuse my offer will be considered an insult."

The members of the Council just sat and considered their options for getting rid of this offer they couldn't refuse. Several sent angry looks to the one who had suggested to punish Aniska and Jonathan by making them look after the little princess.
They didn't trust Aniska, so leaving her alone with aliens was the last thing they wanted... and they knew nobody would dare to spy on a well trained fighter like Aniska.
Finally, one suggested "Let's vote."
All voted in favor of accepting the offer, but the only one smiling while voting was Natalia.

J: "Well done kid, you just played the game of politics and won."

X: "Neat."

N: "Next point: the Kewen and the Kewen."

To all scientists and explorers,
I been informed I can be your guide after all. If you're watching the Council meeting, please quietly follow Sir Jonathan out of the Hall. Protective clothing and hiking-assistance exoskeletons (ooc: those things are actually under development in the real world, they will make it possible to walk very far without effort!) will be provided to those who need them.


--- about an hour later, at the border of the city ---

A: "Welcome everyone, I'm glad you could make it. I bet you're wondering how come you're wearing protective clothing while I have bare arms and legs, and Jonathan is protected on the legs only. Let me show you something."
She walked to a shrub with pretty blue flowers. "Looks harmless, doesn't it? Jonathan, why don't you pick a flower for me?"

J: "No WAY!"

A: "Fine, I'll do it myself..."
She grabbed a branch, and immediately a vine with large thorns appeared and wrapped itself tight around her arm. She pulled herself free, which caused deep cuts. To the surprise of some of the present scientists, those cuts healed immediately and without leaving a scar. She pulled a thorn that had broken off from her arm, and stung Jonathan in the hand before he noticed what she was going to do.

J: "AAAARGH! Fackinggoddambitch ow damdamdam!"
A large purple spot appeared on his hand.

A: "That's what you get for writing a too positive report about me.
Anyway.
The answer is, I'm poison resistant and fast healing, and Jonathan knows what not to touch. You can probably guess why I'm not demonstrating why I asked you not to bring any weapons larger than a handgun."

The Leanorian wasn't exactly impressed, her entire race was able to heal and regenerate like that so it wasn't anything new. Her human bodyguard was already clad in his own full-body armor. Both of them had been trained to be physiclaly capable of long hikes. However, she wore one of their protective suits anyway, no sense in her wasting her energy healing when she could avoid being injured altogether. It was funny to see Jonathan swearing and cursing in pain though the Leanorian couldn't help but feel sorry for him. He hand began to glow a faint blue, "Jonathan was it? My names Rose, do you require any assistance with that... sore spot?"

ooc: How attractive would a Leanorian look to a human male? In other words, is Aniska going to be annoyed?

OOC: Well, they're like anthro-lions (or in this case anthro-lioness). I guess it depends how much you like cats. I don't think he'll be annoyed but that's up to you. Rose is really gentle and kinda motherly though.

Jonathan smiled at Rose, then slowly extended his hand, while watching Aniska's face. He noticed a little twitch, exactly what he wanted to see. He turned around to the plant. "It's okay, let me show you something else." He quickly grabbed a piece of a leaf from near the roots, the vine just missing him, and rubbed it on the painful spot. "Everything here has been genetically engineered by the Fir!nans. After the humans arrived, they added the matching cures against the poisons to most lifeforms, to make it easier to save humans that were hurt by accident." As he spoke, the skin on his hand went back to the normal color.

J: "You probably figured out that Aniska isn't human. She looks very much like one, but the almost white skin and blue hair show clearly that she isn't, as do her poison resistance and her ability to control the nanobots in her blood, of course. She isn't a Fir!nan either, but a human-Fir!nan hybrid. I'm afraid it's not likely we'll see any Fir!nans, if only because they wear cloaking armor and like to be left alone."

OOC They're wise not to wear that on Fir!n, too much bare skin that could be damaged :p

Also, it looks damn uncomfortable.

Rose watched as Jonathan used another plant to heal the sore spot on his hand, "Interesting. You grow the anidote right next to the poison." She said with a smile. She was interested in these Fir!nans, they sounded much like the Elden that lived throughout Greywatch. "Can I assume these Fir!nans are more technologically developed than the rest fo the population?"

"Actually, it's the same plant. Poison in the thorns, cure in the leaves. But watch out, other plants may for example have poisonous thorns AND leaves, and curing roots."

The three parts of the population all have their strong and weak sides. The Fir!nans are best with biotech and nanotech, but they're almost strictly solitary and don't use larger scale technology. The hybrids build larger things, like ships, and are more social. The humans, I must admit, don't impress with their technology, but they're better at politics. So I wouldn't say the Fir!nans are more advanced than the hybrids, or the other way around."

Aniska joined the conversation: "Looking at it from a different perspective, the Fir!nans created defense systems with a very crude style: attack anything that doesn't belong. The humans use the more sophisticated 'defense' of diplomacy. We hybrids do a bit of both, and keep the humans alive."
She touched what seemed to be a branch of a tree. All branches bent towards her, and eyes opened at the ends of those. "This here is a tir."

"I know what a tree is" said one of the scientists.

"No, not a tree, a tir. It's a typical Fir!nan invention. What you see is the head of a 100m long and 20m wide creature. Don't worry, it won't hurt anyone without the trigger chemical, it just sleeps and feeds on sunlight."

"Very interesting indeed." Said Rose, "As you can see, we too have humans on our world. To be perfectly honest, my race is amoung the least technologically advanced, so we make up for this using our other special skills." The human bodyguard nodded to this statement but remained expressionless beneath his mask.

Jonathan and Aniska exchanged a look. {It's probably just us thinking that} said Jonathan, in Fir!nan language.

J: "Yes, all races have their strengths and weaknesses."

A scientist asked "If humans are only better at politics, why do you keep them alive?"

A: "What a horrible question! For many things that we both can do, they're better. For example hybrids have weak vocal chords - I think I'll let Jonathan do the talking for a while now."

J: "The Fir!nans do not truly understand social behavior. And because they do not understand it, they haven't been able to add it to themselves. Solitary creatures that rely mostly on stealth don't need their voices much, and so they hardly have voices. That's why Aniska needs the collar box to amplify her voice - and even with it, she will be in lots of pain after speaking for a long time. Except when speaking Fir!nan of course. Fir!nans couldn't speak any other language than their own, it would rip their vocal chords."

To demonstrate, Aniska made soft whistling, creaking and clicking sounds, that were almost indistinguishable from the sounds of the forest life.

A: {I'm sorry I hurt you earlier. I forgot how bad it is for humans.}
J: {No problem.}
A: {How about some... compensation tonight?}
J: {Quiet. Some aliens can understand any language.}

Jonathan blushed, and Aniska suddenly seemed interested in something in the distance.

Suddenly Aniska was lifted into the air herself. The being lifting her wasn't visible, which made it look like she was floating in the air.

J: "Oops, looks like we're meeting a Fir!nan after all. Careful, if any of us does something wrong, she's dead. I can't quite follow what they're saying to each other, they're speaking too fast. She's refusing to translate something... calling the Fir!nan crazy..."

After being squeezed very hard, Aniska gave up her protests.

Welcome to the scientists I asked Aniska to bring to me. I am the Fir!nan the hybrids refer to as 'Mother'. I created the first hybrids from human and Fir!nan genes, long ago, when I was keeping the humans like pets.

A patrol ship guided the shuttle through the minefield, and to the parking area, which was a large flat rocky area of about 100 square km just outside the city. A hybrid welcomed them:

"Sorry we had to make you wait. Apparently one of our allies wants a large sum of money from you. Don't worry, we're not going to try to extract it from you, we'll just... make sure you pay for everything. This way please..."

The Dyellians had no intention of paying anything. They didn't usually respond well to mafiosa style threats. Four of them followed the hybrid, while another number hung around the shuttle smoking and drinking. Rossi led the small band, stepping quickly to catch up, "Excuse me? Pay for everything? Please define what you mean by this."

Meanwhile, a Munificent-class Star Frigate dropped out of hyperspace near the planet. This Munificent had been rather heavily modified for scouting and reconnaissance purposes. Most of its weaponry systems were gone, replaced with sensors and a long-range hyperwave transceiver, which was the crew's primary method of contacting home in case they found something. The ship was also coated in a material that negated most sensors, in order to avoid detection.

ASEF Allegiance

"Commodore Traken, we have come out of hyperspace in an apparently highly civilized system. I told you that gravitic disturbance that we got in Sector X-2954 was something."
"Well, you got me this time, Lieutenant. I have a feeling that the ASF Senate's going to have a field day over this."
"Should we power on the hyperwave transceivers?"
"Well, standard procedure would be to jump out of the system first, but nobody's going to miss the radiation that we're going to create in realspace when that happens. Yet activating the transceiver right now would probably increase our signature and get us detected as well. Hmm...."
"With all due respect, sir, the ASF Alliance has not been at war for over 200 years. Assuming the government that controls this planet isn't warlike, they would have no reason to declare war on us."
"You're right, I guess. Well, then, power on the hyperwave transceiver, and send the discovery signal to ASFEC headquaters. And if they do attack, well, let's just say they're not going to like the 5th Fleet."

The hyperwave transceivers of the Allegiance slowly came to life, allowing for communications between it and the ASF homeworld, but also allowing standard sensors to detect it. After the message was sent, the shields of the Allegiance was powered on, and the ship remained stationary in the system, awaiting whatever that came out to greet them -- or to blast them into space dust.

Aniska translated the question made by the Ziolisian, and then continued translating what the Fir!nan said.

"At first, the humans were just interesting creatures that I liked to study. After some time, I began to understand the importance of their living in groups. It's what makes them strong. I looked up the information about the species that attacked Fir!n in the past, and it seemed they all did this group thing we Fir!nans can't really understand, and that each attack was more technologically advanced than the previous. I understood that to keep Fir!n safe at the long term, creatures were needed with the strengths of both Fir!nans and humans, so I created the hybrids. Of course I have to make sure the hybrids and humans continue to serve my interests, and that they won't become a problem for the planet. In the past, it was enough to modify some information in their computers here and there, but for my latest project I needed more direct influence. That's why I created Aniska.

This project... I made you come here because I want to make an offer to you. If you help keep Fir!n the way it is now, I will share my knowledge and skills with you."

Aniska translated the question, but her voice failed when she tried to translate the reply. Jonathan asked the Fir!nan to speak more slowly, and took the task of translation upon himself. The Fir!nan still held Aniska, who touched her (own) throat and tried to swallow, but in a kind rather than threatening way.

"The forests are the homes of the Fir!nans, but there are rocky areas that are less useful to us as well. The human city is built on the largest of those. I'm sure there is a place for a base for you, but it could be difficult for me to make the humans give permission to build. Also, there couldn't be bases for all of you."

Jonathan said some things in Fir!nan language. The Fir!nan thought for a moment, then nodded and continued speaking.

"This human says that if I and maybe also other Fir!nans teach the scientists of your kinds and help solve their problems, Fir!n will be a knowledge resource to you that you will most likely come defend if another kind tries to take it for themselves or destroy it. That is enough for me. Furthermore, the human says that if you want to build a base, most likely the humans will be very happy to let you use their city as a base. Their Council would think for the humans and hybrids, and your most important beings would think for you."

This ship doesn't quite decloak -- that is, it belongs more in the category of a stealth ship, which essentially means that anyone can detect it if they get close enough. Nevertheless, we will turn on the beacons and the lights on the hull, just to prevent accidents. Also, this ship doesn't have atmospheric capabilities, due to its rather unorthodox shape and the stealth coating which would burn off on atmospheric reentry.

The humans had something that looked a bit like a fish or a lobster (ooc no Fir!nans in the sea so less poisonous creatures there), and the hybrids had raw meat.

N: "If you would like to try the human food, feel free to ask. So... you're empresses? You sharing a room suggests you belong to one nation, but I've not heard of any with more than one empress before. Would you like to explain?"

Rose gently placed her glowing hand on Aniska's neck, guiding her healing energies through Aniska's entire neck. Whatever pain there was would be soothed and whatever had been damaged was repaired in only a few seconds. "Is that better?" Rose asked with a bit of a worried look, it was rare that Leanorians healed races besides humans and other Leanorians.

Commodore Traken switched off the intercom and said, "Lieutenant Garn, Lieutenant Fergourd, suit up in the all-environmental suits, we're potentially going to be on a planet with a hostile atmosphere. And meet me down in the launch bay once you're done."
"Yes, sir." they said, leaving the bridge to their living quarters.
"Take care of the ship while I'm gone." Commodore Traken said to the bridge in general as he was leaving to suit up.

The all-environmental suit was not only designed for protection against foreign elements, but it was also designed with some ceremonial use in mind, as the ASF Alliance had anticipated that it would also be the first impression made on intelligent species, in case if they were encountered. Commodore Traken quickly suited up, and arrived at the launch bay, where the two Lieutenants were already waiting. "Status report?" said Commodore Traken to one of the technicians.
"The shuttle is ready to fly, sir." said the technician said, "Just don't push it too hard. We've run a diagnostic on it already, but one can't be sure how it will behave under high-performance conditions until it is actually placed under such conditions, and then it's a bit late." The technician saluted and left.
Commodore Traken stepped into the cockpit of the shuttle, and sat down at the pilot's seat. He activated the comlink, and said, "Launch Bay Control, This is Commodore Traken, on the ASEF Shadowblade, requesting launch."
"Confirmed, Commodore. Stand by for launch bay door opening."
The launch bay doors slowly opened, as a magnetic field covered the opening in order to prevent the atmosphere inside the Allegiance from draining out. The shuttle slowly emerged from the hangar bay, and stayed beside the much larger ship as Commodore Traken contacted the system patrol ship.

The shuttle is ready to go. Before we go anywhere, though, could you tell us if the area that we're heading to contains any substance that would be harmful to humans?

The patrol ship guided the shuttle through the minefield, and to the landing/parking area.

The tree that was hit slammed its heavy branches to the ground with force, then slowly lifted them again. A few large pink biting insects were disturbed and attacked the scientists. The Fir!nan instinctively readied herself for an attack jump, then changed her mind because she didn't want to scare the other beings. Instead she made herself invisible and talked to Aniska. Meanwhile, Jonathan informed everyone it was safe to swat these insects.
M: {These are unsuitable. Please bring back the others later.}
A: {Damnit. Are you sure? They are very willing to help and have good character.}
M: {I bet, but they don't combine with nature.}

Rose's bodyguard had long since began using thermal vision to track the movements of the Fir!nan. Rose relied more on her own good hearing to pick out the Fir!nan's movements, though she couldn't understand the language the alien spoke in. She considered giving a small gift to the Fir!nan as a show of good faith but when she heard the group was now going back to the city she changed her mind. Rose put on a smile as she listened to how the field of flowers got there, swatting the insects that tried to approach her, "She's obviously very talented."

Suddenly her grin got replaced by a serious look, and her nose moved a little as she looked around. "Wait a sec." In one quick movement she picked up Xani and placed her in front of Jonathan. "Everyone stay close to Jonathan please."
The change was quite remarkable - one moment she moved and talked like a young human woman, the next she was a carnivore hunting another predator almost as large and strong as herself.

"Oh shit" said Jonathan, and pulled his hunting rifle (which wouldn't be of very much use) from his back.

The bodyguard pulled out his pistol almost instictively, "What're we up against chief?" He said to Jonathan. Rose stayed very calm and moved behind the armored man, "Yes, I'd like to know the same. Is there anyway we could be of assistance?"

"Well, seeing that we had dropped out around here about an hour ago," said Commodore Traken, "we don't exactly know this place very well, so it's kind of hard to say what or where we were expecting to go. I would open diplomatic relations with the planetary government, but unfortunately, I don't quite have the authority to do so." Suddenly, the comlink inside his helmet went off. "Excuse me. I have to pick up a call from my ship.

He switched his audio and voice systems into the comlink using his thoughts, as the helmet was equipped with a brainwave sensor that could detect and convert the thoughts of its wearer into actions.

"Commodore Traken here, what's the problem?"
"Sir, we've got an incoming message from Alpha 10. Not from Exploration HQ, by the way. Message signature indicates it's from the Chief of State himself."
"Has to be important for him to get personally involved in this. Route it through."

Chief of State Avant's voice filled the helmet. "Greetings, Commodore Traken. I am Chief of State Lancer Avant, if you don't know me already. I just wish to offer my personal congratulations on the discovery of the planet. A diplomatic convoy is on its way to your ship's position to open up diplomatic relations with the newly discovered government and beings. It has a small two fighter escort, due to the rarity of fighters in service with that kind of range. This will not be sufficient to protect the convoy in case it comes under attack, so protect it well. Good luck, and farewell."

"Well..." said Commodore Traken to the comm operator, "There's not much that I can do right here. Just be prepared to greet the convoy when it arrives and ask for clearance from the native traffic patrols for the diplomatic ship to enter."

He switched the audio and voice systems back. "Sorry." he said to the guide, "That was a rather important message from the ship. As I was saying, I don't have the authority to open diplomatic relationships, but a diplomatic convoy should be on its way shortly."

OOC: Fir!nans cloak using a layer of nanobots on their skin (the same thing that is on the ships, by the way). There will be some IR visibility (otherwise they would be cooked!) but they've modified themselves to cool through the feet, and they move around rather quickly. Also, there is a whole lot of other beings standing around... So it is technically possible to see her in IR, but not easy.

J: "It could be any of a number of things. Try to avoid using your weapons, because that attracts all sorts of nasty beasts. I bet that whatever it is was attracted by that clumsy Ziolisian... The important thing is, only fire when you're attacked, because when you do fire it's likely to put us into more trouble. Stay in the group, to avoid making yourself a target, and let Aniska handle it."

The creature chose a prey and jumped from its hiding place. Within a fraction of a second, Aniska (who had already figured out more or less where it was) smashed herself into it and pushed it to the ground. It bit and scratched her, she gave it a few hard punches on the nose then let it go. The creature slowly backed away from her, dragging its bleeding snout over the soil. it looked a bit like a wolf, but with oversized teeth and claws. It disappeared into the forest.

Aniska was bleeding from many bites and scratches, which began to close within a minute. "Gods, that hurts. ... Poor thing, it's only following its instincts."

"This of course is Aniska, our diplomat who made second first contact with you. I never paid much attention to her, I thought she was just the spoiled adopted kid of our leader. But on her last mission she took her disobedience a bit too far, and I got curious."

A tap on the screen, and some information appeared:

Another tap on the screen, and a drawn portrait of Andrea appeared next to the photo of Aniska. They looked like they could be sisters.

Rose gave a concerned frown, "You mean like internal bleeding or broken bones? We Leanorians don't really see injuries, not internal ones. When we place our hands on a person, we can begin forcing our own Encryptic power to flow through that person's body. In so doing we can detect parts of the body that seem to have been damaged. Of course, it always helps to know a creature's anatomy before conducting such healing, but that's another story. Why do you ask?"

Rose looked back to Aniska and spoke it more quiet tone, "I see, well, while I haven't dealt with that particular issue before... we Leanorians specialize in healing everything from small cuts to wounds of war. For what we're talking about, however, it would be best if we waited until we got back to the city. Though, I can try to find something wrong right here and now, if it will make you feel better."

"Right now I'm most concerned about the possibility of sharp bits of scale wandering around inside me. There wouldn't be much internal bleeding but I could get an infection and die within a few hours. So I hope you can tell me whether I need to ask for a hovership to take me out of here, or could just walk home. As for the well-being of my future children, if the eggs aren't broken, they'll most likely be fine. At this stage there isn't much about them that could break."

She sighed.

"This shouldn't have happened. I allowed everyone to bring weapons because I wanted to be trusted, I didn't expect they might be used. Oh well, at least nobody had their throat ripped, that's something..."

"To make it easier for you I'll tell my nanos to stop fixing me so any cuts will be more obvious."

OOC Notes on hybrid (and also Fir!nan) reproduction: eggs have about 2.5 times the volume of those of a chicken (so 3 or 4 would fit inside a humanoid body without too obviously being there). The cycle takes about a month, with the scales forming in the last week. If those of Aniska were broken, the scale would still be really thin and because of that very sharp. Not a nice way to die... But don't worry, the first post in this thread said "don't kill Aniska" :) .

Blue runes began crawling down Rose's arms until they had spread to her palms as well. She placed her right hand on Aniska's back, sending a pulse of encryptic energy through her body. "Don't worry, now that I have an idea of what to look for this shouldn't take too long." Aniska might feel a bit of a tingle as the energy went through her, healing anything and everything it came accross while, at the same time, revealing anything odd to Rose. "I think you're going to be fine, I can't detect anything out of place. Even if these scales are small I believe I'd still be able to see something like that flowing through your blood stream." She stopped pumping encryptic energy into Aniska's body and removed her hand from Aniska's back, "Well, I think you should be fine."

OOC: Oops, I think I made a mistake in my English. "Scale" should probably be "shell"? Oh well, you probably understood.

IC:

Aniska sighed again, but in an entirely different way. "Thank you for checking. The other races where you come from must be really happy to have yours around."
She gave Rose another hug. "... Did you count? ... Don't tell me, I'll find out soon enough. Let's go."

Rose gave a soft smile, "Well, we're just happy to help." She hugged Aniska back before looking to the rest of the group, "Very well. I suppose, as your friend said, it would be best to get back before night falls."

She noticed Rose looked a bit confused (a human and a hybrid?).

But it can be hard at times, knowing someone's in danger and then not doing anything... But you were asking about side effects? Not that I know of, at least not to the reciever of the healing. To be honest, healing actually drains the healer considerably. I, however, have a large reserve of Cryptic energy."

ooc: TFP, incase your wondering Kewen have interesting healing powers, which i am quite interested in trying out on another race ^.^ Side effects inculde depending on amount of healing. Prolonged life, Enhanced strength and other features, Slight to very good shapeshifting abilities, increased resiliance to most poisions and stuff, ability to internal stich wounds and such ( think nanites but oh so much better and much more delicate.)

She had brought a bottle of juice, Fir!n-humans liked simple gifts, and it was a sensible thing to give to someone in the morning.

At the border of the city were Aniska and Jonathan, the remaining guests, including Rose, and the Kewens. Jonathan explained to the Kewens what had happened the previous day, and what the Fir!nan wanted (basically, to give help and knowledge to allies she liked, so they would consider Fir!n very worth protecting).

Aniska did not do the demonstration with the flower again, she figured that the rest of the group agreeing that the Fir!nan forest was no joke should be enough, and that the Kewens were calm and careful enough not to cause trouble anyway.

Though Rose gave no indication of it, she'd been working for most of the night on a little project for Aniska. It was nothing much, but it may come in handy at some other point. Rose said nothing of this however, it wasn't done yet and was supposed to be a suprise. Her bodyguard had also invested in some sleep, this place seemed safe enough and he wasn't as tense as he was on the first day.

About the Kewen side effects: hybrids already are stronger and faster than humans, have more sensitive senses, very good poison resistance and the ability to close wounds both internal and external. No shapeshifting though!

And hybrid healing powers... well they could take control of the nanos of another hybrid or Fir!nan when (s)he is unconscious. Healing something that doesn't have nanos (or another type) would require giving it their own blood, and in general that is a very bad idea.

So I guess you might want to heal a human. Making a human more like a hybrid is more interesting than making a hybrid more like a hybrid. I wasn't planning any dangerous situations for the next while, though.

OOC: Technically speaking, Leanorians don't actually have regen, key difference being that regeneration is automatic, Leanorians actually have to activate their abilities.

Allegiance: Transmission confirmed, ASDC Starbeam. How was the trip?
Starbeam: Not too bad. We got ambushed at Sector X-28, and would have been blasted into pieces if there wasn't an ASF Alliance patrol ship nearby, but we're fine, other than that.
Allegiance: Good. Well, you should dock with us for now, while we get landing clearance for you. You've already been cleared for docking.

The Starbeam slowly extended its docking transfer tube with the Allegiance as it docked, while the Y-Wings landed in the launch bay.

The kewen, while walking had studied each and every planet, even so much as to touch every last one, even after being warned of the effects, as each plant was touched, the informatino of its genetic structure was added to the kewen knoledge and antidotes were being built by the bodies, so even if they were posiones in about two to three minutes it would be harmless to kewen.

OOC2 I did block the storyline you're in, and not much seems to be happening in the other one that most posts are part of at the moment.

IC The Kewen did get attacked by spiky vines and such a few times, I suppose they just shapeshifted around the sharp parts or something.

"The origins are of course natural, but everything has been modified by the Fir!nans" said Aniska. She avoided giving long answers, because she knew she might have to translate a lot later. She looked to Jonathan, who gave some additional explanation: "The word Fir!n means paradise. The Fir!nans adapted nature to them, and themselves to nature. It's not surprising they don't want any of it to be damaged, which is why they built in a lot of defensive measures."
