OOC: There's always the second-in-charge, etc. Zecro, Most of Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore hasn't been touched yet.

President Zhang is in a jubilant mood following the surprisingly quick fall of the Maropian Coast. His military strategists had expected a "shock-and-awe" effect upon them but few had expected the colony to fall that quickly, with most of them expecting 4-5 days instead of one day. The joint Sino-Taiwanese assault was formidable, with the best of both worlds.

With the remainder of the armed forces now being mobilised, the next phase of the war would be in a few days time.

(Gosh. The Sinoese military must be horribly poorly armed, trained, motivated, and supplied! If it has many millions of men, which it can re-deploy by the million at the drop of a hat, it has obviously put a crippling weight of resources into quantity over quality and into transport infrastructure over everything else. At least I know to refuse any future Sinoese assertion that, man for man, their forces can match anyone but Bonstock's, and that they can't even get heavy or advanced support more easily or in greater weight or precision than can Dra-pol. I had to say this now lest I forget it later. Carry on.)

North China has halted all trade, and has stopped the transportation and selling of oil to other countries, North China controls most of the oil coming into East Asia through Xinjiang oil transportation.

Wu Ze Ming has promised free trade and a strong opil trade with any country that will support his government. The Monarchy has drifted its grip when the Rebel army took control of Xinjiang, and now, Western Mongolia, Gansu, and North Qinghai provinces.

[Sino, could you give a timeframe on that deployment? There does seem to be a logistical problem there.]

If the Bonstockians on the Sakishimas or Miyako-Jima were finding the going tough, they would find the war untennable - in fact from the ROC point of view, the Bonstockian war effort in the Pacific was expected to collapse within the fortnight.

A few hours after the fall of Maropia, a squadron of twenty four IDF-3 Stealth fighter bombers took off armed with mostly naval munitions and close/mid-range AAMs. They would patrol the triangle of ocean between Taiwan, the Sakishimas, and Indonesia for Bonstockian vessel, and were instructed to stay clear of enemy aircraft. Any enemy ships were to be sunk.

Having a population of 600 million, the South Chinese can field up to 20 million troops with their frieghtening economy. The build up in Taiwan took several months. But with land, the movement of another million (from a previous two million on guard duties), is entirely possible in a one month (considering that announcement comes after the completion of action).

Since when did the Sinoese have to close all their highways considering that IFVs and MBTs can easily travel on muddy tracks hacked out through the forests. There are still many tricks up the General's sleeves.

Except I don't think everyone's thinking a month has past yet Sino. You just declared that suddenly there were a million more troops somewhere they hadn't been before.

Wow..one in thirty people in your country is a soldier? ...interesting...

OOC to Xiaguo: You don't control all the oil! There is an area where oil can be gotten in Lyong, in the mountains and plains surrounding the Spyran border center and shrine Yamaki-ro. Some of this is in North Yaman, which supplies oil to neighbouring Spyr and through Gochu(roughly Vladivostok) into Drapol.

Also, what is the situation in the Heilongjiang province? I think you meantioned some government officials were assassinated there. Who is in charge in Harbin, National Generals or Loyalist forces? Or is it just an anarchy? Is there any fighting? Are they requesting assistance from Yamani across the border? Basically, I'm just looking for the situation the Yamani Spearguard would be staring at across the border.

(OOC: So, you're massing troops on my border with C-H? I think I see what's coming. Either you're planning to ask Marimaian permission for military access, allowing you to march down and attack Bonstock directly, or I'm going to get invaded because C-H appeared to have a slight obsession about me invading him. C-H was the one who first brought up the whole 'united Tai state' idea, as I hadn't even considered it. Yet when I offered an ironclad agreement relinquishing any and all possible ideas of interfering in any of the Four Chinas, he ignored it. It's in the 'Modern World Closed RP' thread.

If you are there with peaceful intentions, think about how it looks when an extra million troops are being deployed along your border with no warning or explanation.)

IC:

Northern Command's examination of satellite intel showed a massive redeployment in progress along the border between Chuang-Han and Marimaia. With the nation already at war with Bonstock, the last thing needed was an invasion by Sino.

Diplomatic channels buzzed with activity as Marimaian officials attempted to contact Sino and Chuang-Han to discern the intentions of the Chinese giant.

A controversial student-made short film makes its way to the Spyran media, and then to international sources. Titled 'Death of Harald', the film depicts an interpretation of the Bonstockian leader, gunned down by Chinese troops while in the middle of raping one of the women kidnapped for him from Mergui.
The Spyran government's response is a warning against treating the film as 'absolute truth, when it is merely one possibility amongst many".

Mandalay, Burma
The PRS airborne brigade prepares for rapid deployment, but is held in reserve as its officers nervously examine Sinoese military build-up, hoping that it is not aimed at their SSRC ally.

Back in LRR proper, Marshall Isaac Syzko's 1st Front is in a state of perpetual military excersizes. This serves two purposes, the first of which is to keep the troops on their toes, and the other of which is to keep it so that any Bonstockian intelligence gatherers would never know quite where a unit or concentration of units would be. No live ammunition is fired, to keep up the stock for any potential combat operations, but the Tank-assault divisions and infantry divisions keep moving around and engaging in mock battles. The engineering detachments and logistics detachments can especially use the extra practice, as the truck drivers and engineers seek to know every inch of the local terrain.

LRRN and LRRAF units also participate in these manouvers. While the LRRMFs in general are rarely idle, the current manouvers have a distinctly real feeling to them, not exactly a welcome quality.

With the onset of winter, the LRRMFs apply new camoflauge colors and distribute snow uniforms. Lakes are tested for strength for use as helicopter bases, and crews clear snow off of the numerous scattered LRRAF airstrips. Conscripts are not called up, and are unlikely to be unless Bonstock manages to get a sizable force through the LRRN, LRRAF, and Lyongian nations, to land on LRR soil and beat back the numerous and well-prepared defending forces, equipped with superior anti-tank missiles and much more firepower on lower unit levels, coupled with expert logistics and engineers, in the wintertime, against troops accustomed to the conditions, and an effective counterattack cannot be made.

This is all a very unlikely scenario.

Meanwhile, several amphibious brigades are shipped out to help the fight against Bonstock in Southeast Asia. The amphibious brigades are really the only LRR units who can fight respectably in jungle and tropical areas, where the LRR reliance on long-range ATGMs proves dangerous and everything is much closer than regular LRRMFs units are used to.

Equipped with a variety of light tanks, they hope to be of some use.

OOC-OK, does that mean there have been SEVEN nuclear devices used and then has the guy that ordered them killed, along with the guy who started this whole thing?
Is this a thinly vieled attempt to use nukes and then still retain your soveriegnty? Kind of like, "I wasn't reponsible! The people who did all that stuff aren't even here any more!"

IC- Upon hearing about the ill-fated militery coup and the subsequent nuclear attacks, Prime Minister Jesse Obed is outraged. He sends an official message to the sitting parliament in Bonstock.
"The nation of Bonstock has proven itself to be a threat under every situation, from the crass imperialism exercised under the old regime, the weakness and ineffectuality shown by this sitting parliament and then the madness under General Abdul. Thousands have died at Bonstockian hands and you have proved yourself incapable of stopping further bloodshed.
The government of Quinntonia thanks the sitting Parlaiment for ordering the cease-fire, but with the knowledge that this is the second one that has been ordered by this government, and that the first one resulted in the detonation of SIX NUCLEAR DEVICES, we msut say that, with the timeatble set forth previously, we must get assurances that the government of Bonstock is willing to dis-arm, and submit to internation supervision of their military and government so that we can assure the secure dealings with your nuclear arsenal.
In other words, you have 21 days left to submit completely to the forces that you have wronged and their allies. Your government is to sign a public declaration that states that it will allow a complete dis-armement of their nuclear arsenal and a revision of its foriegn policy under the supervion of a body of international powers. This will also include war reparations and a limiting of the weapons programs that you are able to take part in. The declaration will include an invitation to the international community to send weapons inspectors and , if needed peace-keeping forces onto your soveriegn soil.
If the government of Bonstock does not have a signed declaration handed to its Quinntonian embassy by the end of the deadline, a state of war will exist between us and your government will be forcibly removed and a more reasonavle and stable one be put in its place.
Prime Minister Jesse Obed.

The nuclear artillery strike devestates the beachhead, especially surprising after concentrated rocket and tube artillery bombardment for days on end coupled with constant attacks into Bonstock-held territory failed to destroy the large, relatively obvious crusader howitzers.

The surviving LRRA and Volgostani troops throw themselves into the Bonstockian lines in blind fury, hurling grenades as they are mown down. The LRRN is forced to withdraw from the assault on Mikayo-jima, loosing five more frigates and three destroyers. The LSTs and medical units are especially hard-hit, located directly on the beach area. Many Bonstockian soldiers are killed as their own nuclear shells rain down upon the field hospitals.

LRR is, to say the least, in a rage over the use of nuclear weapons in targeting troops, especially medical troops, of a nation unable to retaliate with the same means. A major air strike on Singapore is planned to make Bonstock pay.
Beth Gellert

The small Igovian force in Myanmar and Marimaia was quick to receive details on the latest round of Bonstockian atrocities, the level and quality of communications being accordingly high, given the great ratio of civilian man-hours to soldiers placed in the field. The Beddgelens would not be slow to share with their foreign comrades in arms, as GSIC set to one of the few truly secret tasks it was able to carry out beyond the public realm. Inside the same day on which the nuclear events occurred, a Marathom transport under escort by two complete wings of Hobgoblin air superiority fighters had touched-down in Marimaian territory.

There was slightly uncharacteristic secrecy and security surrounding the cargo unloaded from this one aircraft. It would not be well for even friendly governments to know of Beddgelen programmes initiated under the first, authoritarian, Igovian administration. Programmes carried-out in the highlands, and remembered in some foggy, nightmarish respect by Victoria Salvadorian capitalists and ex-Iansislian POWs alike.
Perhaps those exceptionally firm regimes counted as allies –the Marimaians, for example- would not have objected on every, private level to the intent if the Gelert Sentinels’ mission.
But it might have been enough to see this cargo for the Marimaians fears to be raised on the possibility of a similar container, back in India, marked with perhaps an M where this cargo’s B was stamped... obscured just slightly by the biohazard indicator.

In truth, Portmeirion hadn’t developed a working form of the Thai-seeking weapon before funding for new research was cut following the failure of the first Igovian government. This was merely because the Marimaians weren’t rated a priority threat, not since the Beddgelen monarchy fell. Bonstock was an entirely different genetic kettle of counter-revolutionaries, however, and perfect for early studies. Pretty well the only people of that ethnicity in Asia were confined to Bonstock, save for similarities in Beth Gellert herself. Perhaps it was a contradiction in terms to seek minimisation of collateral-damage when engineering weapons of mass destruction, but there you had it.

Most mysteriously, the Beddgelen mechanised division due to join the Marimaian offensive was ordered to halt in its tracks. This was said to be in aid of cease-fire negotiations, and as a gesture of good will. The Marimaian government was given sensitive information –at only the very highest level, that is to say, the man himself- by a surprise visit from Commonwealth Chief Consul comrade Chivo (conveyed aboard the mentioned Marathon), who absolutely insisted on being seen, despite the assassination attempt on the Marimaian premier. Chivo strangely indicated that it would be best for any Marimaians, military or civilian, who might have white blood in their veins to hastily remove themselves from anywhere near Bonstock.

Igovian Pluvia rocket-artillery moved forward, though. Right to the front, along with the newly arrived cargo. Furnished with new warheads, extended-range variants of the 289mm rockets thundered forth to deliver genetically-targeted biological attack to the whites of Bonstock. The rocket barrage included conventional weapons -high explosives and cluster munitons- meant to disguise the nature of the attack, and were directed against military and infrastructure targets as far south as Kuala Lumpur. Flying from their first port of call in Myanmar, four Springer fighter-bombers also loosed a total of eight Mangonel cruise-missiles from over the Bay of Bengal inside Marimaian airspace, aiming for the rather broad target of Sumatra with preference given to detonation in Bonstockian territory rather than anything more specific. It was required only that a missile reach the big island and detonate, little more.

What exactly was being done? Biological warfare was being initiated against the Bonstockian race in Asia, with every effort to create initial confusion about the fact. The ISCBG didn’t have a very large nuclear arsenal, and just seven SSBNs. The army was not provided with the capacity to fight massive battles on multiple fronts thousands of kilometres apart against countless well-equipped enemies as the Bonstockian imperial force appeared to be. But in the darkest aspect of Igovian design there lurked a long-standing genetics research community. Since the cracking of the human genome, things had really taken-off, and now countless tropical diseases were imparted with the ability to dance though vaccines likely given to troops in South East Asia, and manipulated with a taste for specific markers... such as those allowing Bonstockians to trace their ancestry. If even one cruise missile, or one infused-rocket artillery warhead were to successfully detonate, Bonstock would become a bad place to be Bonstockian. Malaria and the dreaded plague itself were amongst the diseases that would again erupt, attacking even those whites –soldiers or nay- given vaccinations against such natural diseases, while leaving most other ethnicities untouched. Beth Gellert’s first ever use of “WMDs”.

“Comrade Ariamnes...” Said the hushed-tones of one Springer pilot to his weapons-systems-operator not seconds before the launch of missiles, “...history may judge this the greatest of all terrors. But as you loose our cargo, remember that you do so in response to another terror, and one that threatens the revolution in Asia in a way brutal beyond even the most twisted of Nico[barese]-Con plots. Though we may yet have come back from the nuclear-precipice, it should not be for the reactionaries to decide when to bring the world to the brink and when to call halt. You do this for the empowerment of all who survive.”

And away went the missiles.

OOC: I do wish that this Zecro fellow would stop posting nonsense instead of just saying that he's done with us and then coming back to post more nonsense. It'd be easier to stomach if he was a casual observer who actually understood the first thing about the situation, but no, he's lecturing players who, unlike he, know what has and hasn't been blown-up in one post or another, or have managed to grasp the difference between, say, Taiwan and Indonesia, for example. There's no way, Zerco, if you can even read this, that you can call the Beddgelen biological attack pointless while having bothered with any of the posts you've made in this thread, or while considering the Bonstockian nuclear events other-than pointless. Mmm, a free side-order of hypocrisy on our unwanted helping of self-important nonsense!

This is a complete waste of time, it feels like it's building to me saying something final, but since Zecro actually has nothing to do with anything, it could be considered an irrelevaent and pointless tangent. I agree with the beta-testing notion, and only wish that it were easier to agree and confirm a new RP community in this realistic world thing. In the unlikely event that the IC element is not yet universally considered dead, I apologise for joining-in with the OOC derailing of this thread.

[OOC: Err... this is bad... not very promising way for things to work out.

But, rather than killing all the Bonstockians to remove them from the Modern World, we might make a few assumptions to increase realism.

1) The Bonstockian people arent all mindless machines obeying the every word of their leader andfanatically loyal from high admirals to newborns. As human beings, their reaction to a state that has constantly gone to war, killed people, and then run away would be less than unquestioningly obedient.

2) We might also assume that european Bonstockians (who, given their Modworld location, are probably Dutch :) ) arent the only inhabitants. The sakishimas are inhabited by majority Okinawans, Maropian Coast by a blend which is likely majority ethnic Taiwanese (as Maropian Coast actually has a better record of treating them well than the Chinese), and we can say that at least a couple million Bonstock citizens are Sumatran or Javanese, or Timorese.

3) In this environment (as opposed to Bonstock's RP policy), the government has likely become increasingly repressive over the past few decades, both to the ethnic minorities and to the general populace as it attempts to achieve full national mobilization.

4) If these factors are taken to be true, then Bonstock would be an unstable entity as its political structures collapsed. I'd say we should finish this RP up to avoid a hole in our world, resolving Bonstock's political collapse, final attempt at defending the remnants of the old regime, etc. Then, we could reshape A Modern World withut Bonstock in a much more clear-cut, clean manner.

I'd behappy to take up the RP roughly where Bonstock left off (fiddle with the nuke thing), and RP for that nation until its fully resolved.

Provided, of course, that Bonstock's intent by his actions is to leave A Modern World... if he wants to continue the RP, then b all means he should RP and deal with the consequences of WMD silliness and the magically convenien coups or friendly fire incidents that kill everyone responsible for anything bad in his nation.

By the by, anyone notice an RP disconnect between the Harald who left his beloved and fought bravely to the death at Maropian Coast, and the one who ordered his men to bring him back 40 young women from Mergui, so he could personally join in the rape of the city?

OOC: If Bonstock has departed, then we should go with Spyr's idea and bring about a final resolution.

ooc: Here:

ic: With the destruction of the beachheads, the Bonstocknian troops start departing. Maropian Coast, they were told, was lost, but it was expendable. So the Bonstocknians flew home, ceasefire in place, and prepared for an inevitable demobilization.

And yet, though Bonstock had retained her foothold in Asia, everyone could see that Bonstock was coming out losing. The small but powerful white population was being wiped out by a msterious plague, and even after vaccinations their meager ranks were halved. Yet, most of Bonstock's population, the simple Indonesian farmer, was untouched.

But the blow was enough. Government began to collapse. After scrapping most of the military, including aircaft carriers and strategic bombers, Majority Leader Chang was branded a "traitor," and finally assasinated by right wing nationalists. Food riots soon erupted due to wartime rations. A new, provisional government went into effect, only to be overthrown, all its leaders executed. By now, it seemed that no one dared enter politics, not in Bonstock, where such an entry could easily get one killed.

Finally, veterans of the Sakishima campaign marched on Singapore, many ailing from another unknown disease. Doctors said it was the result of radiation, from fallout exposure. Many of the veterans contracted cancer, and recieved no government healthcare. There were no funds to spare. Angered, they marched home, many dying soon after.

In the Sakishimas, there was turmoil; villagers protested the use of tactical nuclear weapons near their homes, and many residents of Miyako-jima were contracting cancer from radiation exposure. Finally, after weeks of riots and strikes, a band of rioters broke into a local ammunition dump, siezed hundreds of AK-47s, RPG-7Vs, and mortars. With these, and sheer determination, they stormed the govrnment houses in Ishigaki, overwhlemed the guards, and declared an independant Sakishima Islands. Singapore, weakened and distracted, was powerless to resist.

Finally, with news of this, Bonstock became even more unstable. Soldiers rioted for backpay, peasants rioted for less taxes, and even politicians began to question the motives of the provisional regime.

At last, the people had enough. Rioters in Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur repeated the Sakishima incident, and Indonesia and Malaysia became independent. Without its tax and conscription base, the once proud Federal Republic existed in name only. The great warrior leaders of old looked down with disgust.

The LRR government looks upon the new developments in the former Bonstockian territories with relief. Hopefully, LRR will not have to deal with it again. Support is quick to come to the independent areas, as is diplomatic recognition and economic aid packages.

Even though three LRRA and one Volgostani division had been almost totally obliterated, with survivors of the campaign numbering in the tens, it would have to be said that they, all in all, came out on top.

In the LRRMFs burial grounds outside Moscow, the grounds are expanded to accomodate the thousands killed in the fight for Miyako Jima. The kind of losses experienced in that campaign are unheard of, even from the Korean campaign. The country is still in a daze over the staggering losses.

The celebrations in Marimaia and Burma were deafening as the collapse was reported on all media stations. Suu Kyi made an address stating that the Marimaians had proven their great friendship to the Burmese people, as they had stood alongside them and ultimately the alliance had prevailed. She also announced that Marimaia was sending yet more assistance to help rebuild Rangoon. Finally, she called for the current state of national unity to continue; Burma had acted as a unified nation, and it was imperative that they continued to do so.

In Marimaia, Premier Chiisu Suun addressed the nation, with Tian at his side; Tian had been discharged from hospital, but still bore a few bandaged areas. Suun spoke of Marimaia's great victory alongside her allies, and welcomed the newly-independent nations of Malaysia and Indonesia to the international community. He offered the two nations economic and humanitarian assistance, as well offering the services of Marimaian forces to help ensure order.

Suun also declared that a new monument would erected in the capital to commemorate all those who died in the Final Bonstock War. The reconstruction of Taishita, Rangoon and Mergui would continue unabated, and finally Suun spoke of the great joy which filled his heart at the dawn of a new more peaceful era in Asia and the world at large.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As the leaders spoke, the NeoSuunist Party of Marimaia began preparing political missionaries to go to Malaysia and Indonesia. Suun had ordered that Marimaian forces would only enter the two new nations if they were invited in; to that end, the NPM was sending activists to help create NeoSuunist Parties in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Public celebrations erupt in the People's Republic of Spyr as news of the Federal Republic's collapse spreads through the media and government announcements. Military units, student groups, and citizens pour into the streets, waving purple banners and shouting of victory over the counter-revolutionary imperialist roaders, and liberation for the peoples of southeast Asia.

As joy sweeps across the nation, the government springs into action. The loss of Bonstock has opened the road to prosperity for its former populations, but has also removed stability. Unknown quantities of weapons lie in the hands of unpredictable elements, and the Indonesian archipelago has never been a unified entity. Public services have ceased to function, and the people suffer as they try to rebuild. Such a situation is intolerable.

Spyran foodstuffs, medical supplies, aid workers, and party officials board transports conscripted in preparation for further military acion, and request permission from the newly formed governments to begin aid and peacekeeping efforts. Knowing that Marimaia will likely be able to stabilize Malaysia, and other allies already concentrating on the Sakishimas, Spyran efforts focus on the Celebes, Java, and the Moluccas.

[OOC: In terms of ethnic divisions.... we've probably got a number of provisional entities emerging...

Mainland Malaysia: a single entity (including Singapore), with leanings towards the Marimaians.

Borneo: A single entity, somewhat divided ue to substantial ethnic diversity, with disagreement about direction.

Java: A single entity of Javanese.

Sumatra: A single entity, of Sumatrans and Javanese, leaning towards unification with Java.

Timor: A single entity, supporting idependant statehood.

Iriyan Jaya: An entity of small population, politically supporting unification with New Guinea to get access to government assistance lost with Bonstock's collapse.

Celebes: An entity divided between ethnic and religious groups, and unclear of its direction as it lacks a non-geographic unifying factor.

The outlying island groups: Confused and disconnected, likely islands will be dominated by their particular ethno-linguistic group, and quite uncertain about greater political connections. Some may ven contain Bonstockian populations still armed and loyal to the Federal Republic.

Maropian Coast: Obviously, it has been reannexed by Chinese forces, but its a complex situation, as the Maropians are ethnic Taiwanese, not Chinese, and _Taiwan's close cooperation with Sino would make them wary. The nuclear detonation.... I think A Modern World should acknowledge its occurance. The fall of the Coast was sudden and swift, and it was obious that loss was imminent. With the death of Lord Harald and a colapsing government at home, things look grim. While I would be the first to argue against all Bonstockians being fanatically loyal, I also believe that a few would be so due to the propaganda and indoctrination... enough to sacrifice themselves and the Coast in executing a nuclear order. As Bonstockian government policy seems to be one of 'if it isnt ours, it shouldnt be anyones', the existance of such a plan is logical. It would take Sinoese sniffers TIME to locate the nuclear device, possibly one of many, in a Hong Kong-like city, time which the very speed and power of invasion took away from them. I'd say that the nuclear destruction of Maropian Coast should remain as a consequence of the War.

Sakishimas: Irradiated and burning, these islands are not the happiest out there. I'd say they likely resent the Bonstockian action in the war. They probably have independant leanings... Taiwanese wanting to join an independant Taiwan, but not a Chinese one, and Ryukuans wanting to join an independant Okinawa... or Ringist Japan, as there the Yamato are being kept from political domination, and the Okinawan ethnicity might be able to achieve greater political power.]

OOC: Maybe we should move the aftermath to a different thread, after defining where each allied nation will be operating. Spyr's concepts of each new entity make a lot of sense; since Marimaia shares the only existing land border with the new Malaysian state, the new Malay government would probably ask for help from their neighbour.

I'd also see Irian Jaya and Timor possibly falling under EI's influence, since he's the power player in Oceania. Borneo would be courted heavily by everyone on the South China Sea for petroleum reasons, while Sumatra and Java would probably reunite (possibly call them Javatra from now on?) and become someone to compete over as well (or as a perfect nation for a new player to take).

Essentially, I can see a situation where the new entities realise their vulnerability and the somewhat unsavoury reputation still attached to them for being part of Bonstock, so they either scramble to find patron nations to keep them safe or try to look as harmless and strategically worthless as possible.

The most immediate LRR aid shipments are directed towards the Sakishimas, probably the most in-need of all the areas. The four divisions that would have been there to ensure stabalization and a smooth transition into what the government hopes will either become puppet state-dom or a merger with O&I Japan were all close to totally obliterated.

But with the end of Bonstock, LRRN capital ships can be seen off the coast, escorting medium-sized cargo vessels. An amphibious brigade sloshes ashore on Miyako Jima, behind it engineer detachments, and the LRRA units start the long and difficult task of cleaning up the island. However, unlike most armies, the LRRA has actually had first-hand experience in large-scale NBC warfare cleanup. After all, there are still many thousands of tons of South Korea sitting in high-tech vats in the most remote corners of Siberia.

But financial aid is quickly made available to all the other former-Bonstockian territories so they can get off on a proper economic footing.

(OOC: This is what happens in Malaysia over the first month after the fall of Bonstock)

The Marimaian forces which had seen combat on the southern border are given a month's leave and occasionally appear on Marimaian media to speak of the battles they had fought; all personnel who had fought on the front receive medals and commendations. Taishita's rebuilding progresses at an impressive rate, as the government and the various Concerns pour resources and manpower into the project. Meanwhile, two fresh divisions are deployed to the border.

After much jostling for power and confusion over who would lead the new Malay state, a young Malay prince named Jamil bin Hasan eventually comes to power. Recognising his nation's weakened state and the possibility of aggressive nations invading Tanah Melayu (the name for the new state; it's Malay for 'Peninsular Malaysia'), Jamil turns to the only nation with whom the Malays share a land border. The Marimaian Foreign Ministry receive a request for assistance from Prince Jamil the day he ascends to power, and the call is quickly answered.

Flights soon begin from Taishita and Shanjing to Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, bearing humanitarian supplies and several teams of Marimaian facilitators, who would evaluate current needs and request the necessary resources from Marimaia. The main transit networks between Marimaia and the peninsula are repaired to allow convoys through, which are guarded by Marimaian troops in case of Bonstockian survivors mounting some form of resistance.

Two fresh divisions of Marimaian mechanised infantry are also deployed to the peninsula from their border location following Jamil's expression of his security concerns. This leaves the Marimaian border with Tanah Melayu monitored by only the border guards, who intensify scrutiny of anyone crossing the border in case of Bonstockian infiltration. Finally, the NeoSuunist activists sent to Tanah Melayu are put under the command of Sakda Theeravit, a Foreign Ministry expert on nation-building and the Marimaian liaison to the Malay government. Sakda's mission is to assist Jamil in creating a stable nation-state, using Marimaia and Burma as models of government.

The Marimaians also begin a propaganda campaign in Tanah Melayu, emphasising Jamil's strength and vision for the future. They also broadcast that the Malays have nothing to fear from their Marimaian friends, as Marimaia does not hold them responsible for the actions of their former government and Marimaian personnel are only present to ensure a prosperous future for the Malay people.

In Burma, Suu Kyi's government are granted control over the rebuilding of Rangoon and Mergui, while the training of the new Burmese Army continues.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The NeoSuunist activists sent to what was Indonesia are recalled, as it is deemed a waste of resources to spread so thinly over such a wide area.

In Java and Sumatra, a predominantly Javanese joint government begins to stabiize, emerging out of the lesser bureaucrats and officers of the Federal Republic who try to fill the power vacuum as their european superiors flee the country in anticipation of war crimes trials or repercussions from the civil populace. Socialist-leaning figures partnered with islamic political leaders emerge as key factions, cooperating for the time being as they seek out stability.

The provisional government accepts the Spyran offers of aid (and likely any other forthcomin offers), and a massive project of restructuring begins. SRA forces in Burma/Marimaia are redeployed to assist in the stabilization of the new state. Strainist political, economic, and military advisors arrive in Jakarta to help in the formation of a new nation-state, while aid workers spread out through the countryside to provide assistance, and educate the people in the merits of Strainist ideology.

While both povisional government and Spyran advisors are wary of a sudden democratic action to choose a more permanent government, it is decided that a national referendum is in order within a year, to determine the future direction of Sujava.

In Sujava, early turmoil subsides as state structures are put in place. Organised labour movements and tenant farmer's associations, long suppressed by Bonstockian landholders and industrialists, are united under the growing Indonesian Strainist Party. The government issues sweeping reforms, dividing up large estates and distributing them amongst agricultural workers, as well as establishing minimum wage and safety standards for urban workers.

The SRA begins training a new Sujavan defence force. Many soldiers are former Bonstockian conscripts and lesser officers, and remaining stockpiles of Federal Republic armaments are used to equip them, but SRA training attempts to establish the force as one of a purely defensive nature, united with the people it protects, so that the callous attitude of the Bonstockian army to both invasion and its own citizens shall not be repeated. To this end, power projection weapons left on Sumatra and Java, such as ballistic missiles, aircraft carriers, amphibious assault ships, and long-range bombers, are dismantled and scrapped, then sold to increase the resources at the new government's disposal. Large quantities of small arms (M16s and RPG launchers), used to equip a much larger military than needed for defensive purposes, are also put up for sale to increase funds.

Markets are opened up to limited foreign investment... Spyran corporations leap to the occasion [as, I'm sure, do the incorrigible capitalist roaders of Andaman & Nicobar]. As imports and exports resume, the Javanese begin to feel the effects of approaching prosperity. A national referendum process endorses the actions of the ISP provisional government, but stops short of approving full authority for the party's agenda, granting 70% of seats in the People's Consultative Assembly to the ISP and 30% to a coalition of moderate Islamic political associations.

The transition from semi-colonial status under the Federal Republic to the new People's Republic of Sujava is not without difficulty, however. Members of the former upper class, mostly european Bonstockians but also some Javanese, have railed against the land and labour reforms, refusing to participate in the electoral process. Many have stripped heir property of valuables before it could be redistributed, and have moved those assets overseas... many have moved themselves as well, seeking to establish themselves in more predominantly caucasian states. The Sujavan government has warned that some of those leaving may be responsible for crimes against humanity, though many are guilty of severe maltreatment of workers, there does ot appear to be any evidence of mass killings or other genocidal actvities.

In addition, there have been several clashes between Sujava and SRA forces, and the Federal Republican Militia (FRM), a group suspected to be made up of the sons of former landholders, and frmer Bonstockian military officers. The group appears small, but is equipped with unknown quantities of supplies from the former Bonstockian military, and has successfully staged at least one act of terrorism, a car bombing in Jambi which destroyed a provisional government building, killing six bureaucrats and two civilians.

In Tanah Melayu, the Marimaian influence begins to permeate through all layers of society. Jamil bin Hasan is declared Lord Prince of Tanah Melayu, a title which combines the positions of both head of state and head of government. Jamil also decrees the creation of the New Malaya Party, which soon assumes the role of the NeoSuunist Party in Marimaia. The new government is drawn exclusively from the NMP and Jamil's relatives; their first act is to lower the taxes which Bonstock had put in place to fund their mighty war machine. New social programs and public works projects are implemented, reducing poverty and unemployment. The new state is officially known as the Federation of Tanah Melayu, with the NMP in control of both federal and state apparatus. Islam is enshrined as the official religion of Tanah Melayu, and links are soon established with the Muslims in southern Marimaia.

The Malay government also signs the Singapore Accords with Marimaia. This treaty permits Marimaia to construct military bases within Tanah Melayu, and ties the two nations with an alliance. The Marimaians win over the common Malay population with their discipline and politeness, always acting as the courteous guests. Marimaian forces pay for everything they acquire, and assist the native populace in any way they can. The Singapore Accords also declare that Marimaia will assist in the formation of the Malay National Forces (MNF); an armed forces modeled on the Marimaian People's Army soon begins to take shape. The Malay government works quickly to secure former Bonstockian arsenals with the assistance of the Marimaians, and only a few stockpiles are compromised.

The Marimaian Concerns open up offices and subsidiaries throughout Tanah Melayu, providing new employment opportunities for the locals and pouring billions into the Malayan economy. Using Marimaian economic policies as a model, the NMP government are able to regulate the economy and avoid massive inflation. The Marimaians also assist the Malayans in nationalising the oilfields off Tanah Melayu's coast; this leads to the Malay government gaining a growing stream of oil revenue, and the Marimaians are offered lower-than-market prices for Malayan oil.

Despite the fall of the Federal Republic, Bonstockian loyalists still linger. They continue resistance, but with the cooperation of the local populace Marimaian and government forces soon begin rounding them up. The Marimaians show great interest in any prisoners, and those who are known to have been high-level officials are publicly executed for crimes against humanity. Low-level prisoners are sent to labour camps throughout Tanah Melayu, and are forced to slave away for those who they once enslaved. Popular opinion runs against the insurgency, and resistance fighters are forced to be constantly on the run.

Oh well... I was hoping to RP a long, drawn out period of civil war and political chaos, followed by, when I have enough RP time again, a rebirth of the Federal Republic. Perhaps a large, socialist state.

So let me get this straight:

Penninsular Malaysia: Marimaian client state, grudging support from populace.

Sumatra, Java: Spyran client state, grudging support as well, with some resistance; old returning army soldiers out of work.

Borneo, New Guinea, etc: Tribal law, I guess. Power vacuum. Constant state of tribal warfare, plus terrorist sanctuary.

Singapore: Capital of the Federal Republic, and only area where the old regime holds any power, albeit in a much smaller form. Political chaos is absolute, daily shootings, pressures from left and right wing politicians.

Sakishimas: Independant, and relativly stable, for now at least.

Maropian Coast: Sinoese/_Taiwanese provisional govenment. Populace in virtual rebellion, seeking independance.

Demobilization had taken its toll. Soldiers had come home, looking for work. Factory workers were out of it; the streets of Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur were full of men wandering around, looking for something to keep them occupied.

It was a dream to some. This, reasoned those who wanted no interferance in Sujavan politics by the Spyrans needed only recruit, slip them to Borneo, train them first hand in the tribal wars, and then send them back.

And so the recruitment started. Fueled by Bonstocknian stockpiles, which the dying regime had ordered dispursed among loyalists, a new army began to take shape. Only a matter of time, thought some.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The countryside had been constantly rocked by former loyalists, but they were no more then thugs with Kalashnikovs and scores to settle, no serious threat. But they were learning. And about to put their learning to the test.

After a secret stockpile had been uncovered somewhere in the penninsula, it had been looted; tons of explosives, thousands of AKs, hundreds of RPG launchers, all right into the hands of the resistance; the provisional regime had no idea, as none of these arsenals had been known.

Convoys of trucks were perfect targets. Bands of men with RPGs started patrolling the roads from Marimaia, firing at any truck they saw. When armored vehicles and helicopters appeared, they disappeared into villages and mountains, as if they were only farmers.

Finally, one of the most audacious actions began to take shape. A reclusive young revolutionary, by the name of Iban Abu Abdulla, ordered his gang to do something sure to get them on international television: attack the Kuala Lumpur nuclear powerplant, built by the old regime. If they could secure uranium, they could make bombs; but this would not be needed. The Bonstocknian nuclear arsenal was safely hidden away, in terrorist run bunkers.

So the attack was ordered. At nightfall, a white van rode up to the nuclear plant. The Malaysian guard was watching primetime television, and didn't notice the van until the river asked to get in. The guard, himself working for Iban Abu Abdulla's gang, let them in. Marimaians had left their job to the wrong people.

The men got in. Quickly, they set about planting bombs, and shooting any power plant worker who dared get in their way. They even managed to get some uranium in the truck, before a guard sent a fratic radio call to the Marimaians, asking for help. The place was surrounded by armored vehicles; Finally, Marimaian soldiers began entering. The men detonated bombs, blowing the plant, and themselves, to bits.

Iban Abu Abdulla quickly took responsibility in a taped radio message. He said, "Brothers, comrades, today is a glorious day for our cause. Five brave souls dared charge into the Kuala Lumpur nuclear power station, and entered the domain of happy martyrdom. They died so that we might be free. Now, join us. Either we drive out the imperialist Marimaians and Spyrans, or we ourselves shall perish as we once made others do. Glory will be yours once more."

Cheering went up in the streets. Gangs of Chinese and Indian laborers, mad at a Muslim state religion, took Kalashnikovs and shot wildly at any Marimaian or "puppet" forces in sight, before returning to their homes. Muslims, keen on the establishment of an Islamic state, began uprising in the countryside.

-Public Address by Deputy Prime Minister Thabo-

"Two days ago, we received a message from several groups inside what was formerly Bonstockian territory. They have implored us for our government's support and protection against groups that seek their destruction."

"Bearing this in mind, Hudecian peacekeeping troops have been dispatched to the regions with the hope of establishing peace and order in the affected regions."

"So far our military has sent at least 4000 troops to establish an initial base of operations from which Hudecian peacekeepers will be able to defend the interests of the people of Indonesia."

"We stress that we are responding to a threat to our friends in the region, and nothing more."

OOC: The areas to which Hudecian troops will be dispatched are Sumatra, Sunda Islands and Borneo. Their initial port of entry would be Surabaya.

The 4000 troops are the ones I dispatched to Miyako island but got busy and left.

Mostly my reasoning for this is that Muslim-Christian strife in Indonesia has always been high, but there are a lot of moderate Muslims and Christians and non-religious types that want peace and order. Hudecian troops to the region would be attempting to prevent an all out confrontation between the extremists of both sides.

I have a number of friends who are from Indonesia and they tell me that the inter-religious stife can sometimes be pretty bad, even with a stable government. So to all those who think taking over some of the areas will be a cakewalk without Bonstock can think again.

OOC: No, really? There I was thinking that you could make a new state in hours (slight sarcasm). Am I really that bad at roleplaying (probably, but I try to do my best)?

That post covered what happened in a year; Spyr was talking about holding a national referendum 'within a year' to decide the new direction of Sujava and has held it IC, so just about a year seems to have passed in Sujava as well. In addition, Bonstock seems to have accepted that all of those changes have taken place, as he is going with the fact that Tanah Melayu's official religion was Islam, something which was declared after the new government was sworn in. I don't have sudden drastic changes to political situations, I know these things take time; if I RPed like that, I wouldn't have asked someone to RP as the Myanmar resistance. I would have just invaded the country and claimed victory within three posts like a lot of nations do on NS.

I apologise if I was making things look like a 'cakewalk' as Hudecia phrased it. I thought that Bonstock had left and that we were going to move onto something else, so I kinda rushed through what was happening in Tanah Melayu. If I'd known that he'd be continuing, then Marimaia would still be waiting for an invitation from Jamil to cross the border.

OOC: the way I rped it, I said that Malaysia and Indonesia broke off from the Federal Republic, forming mostly stable, independant countries. The political chaos is in Singapore, where assasinations continue in the last territory of the old Federal Republic. All of it was somewhat like the fall of the Soviet Union. That way, we could say that Tanah Melayu was formed when Sarawak and Sabah rejected the Marimaian involvement on the mainland, thus giving your guys a safe refuge. OOC: I wasn't directing my comment at anyone in particular, more or less I was stating that the nations wouldn't be as 'stable' as they could be. I think too often we think about things in a very 'western' viewpoint, assuming that a nation can break up without any real problems.

For example, look at the strife in East Timor, or former Yugoslavia. Indonesia is particularly unstable, even in the best of times.

One of my friends who left Indonesia told us about how bad Christian-Muslim battles in his home town were getting only a few years ago. And I'm not talking about guys getting into a fight at school... I'm talking entire schools with guns and swords literally attacking each other.

Also, there are separatist groups doting the nation all over. Perhaps someone could RP a separatist group in Timor, and another in Aceh province, and another in Papau province, and maybe even another in Bali (predominately Buddhist island in a majority muslim nation.. hmmm..)

All these groups would be oppressed during the Bonstockian rule and now see an opportunity to take advantage of the chaos and seize power now that the armies that oppressed them are gone.

-Sulawesi Island- -Manado-

It'd been a week since the small Christian groups on this island began to organize militias and were holed up in their neighbourhoods for fear of reprisals from Muslim militants.

Living as a Christian here had always been difficult, but at least the old Bonstockian regime had kept a thumb on the trouble for the most part. Loyalty to the nation as opposed to loyalty to their religion was a major theme back then.

But not now. Several Protestant ministers were travelling home from a regional Christian emergency council meeting only to be ambushed and executed by Muslim militants.

The emergency council had decided to ask for international help to help reign in the terrorist acts that were being commited against them. They had made a call specifically to the Hudecians whom they felt would be most likely to help them. Quinntonia and Spyr were also asked to help.

The Christians weren't alone in this however, moderate Muslims, Buddhists and athiests alike were all being targeted in a brutal and bloody campaign to secure Sulawesi for a 'greater Islamist state'. Any women caught without a headcovering were harassed or beaten by self appointed 'moral police'.

News of the Hudecian deployment came as a relief to some, but triggered widespread anger amoung others. The militants had stepped up their campaign to control the major cities and kill all those who did not support them and their twisted ideas. Naturally, Christian and other non-Muslim militias began forming and cooperating against their attackers.

Reverend Rinaldy Damanik had been a major factor in the process, by lending his support to the emergency council, he had essentially become the public face for all those who did not support the violence and those who supported Hudecian intervention.

Hudecian troops were scheduled to arrive in a few days.

Da’Khiem has not commented on... anything. For weeks the renewed degree of closure has persisted. Drapoel observers had not descended upon Kanendru. The 5th and 7th Assault Divisions had not crossed into anarchic Xiaguo. Kosong had not moved beyond initial re-construction to experimentation with currency. The Seoul university protest had not been crushed, though it was facing an extremely tight cordon. Da’Khiem hadn’t even taken delivery of the extra Igovian tanks agreed for transfer just before the Malacca closure and following conflict delayed the deal. No new trade programmes had been ventured even with close allies.
So the Republic certainly didn’t bother to openly or officially address the issue of Quinntonian military activity. It had however mirrored a force increase inside QDP by drawing the 22nd Rocket Support Battalion and the 9th Infantry Brigade from the Central Defence District and taking from the 38th Defence District both the 4th Field Artillery Brigade and 2nd Armoured Brigade, and re-deploying them opposite the Westgaard Line. This constituted a displacement of just over thirty-five thousand troops, shifting them into the Hamhung Defence District along side that command’s usual strength of above 184,000 discounting relatively fluid Red Bamboo units.

[ooc: I think, like Marimaia, I must quantify my earlier posting on Sujava. Under the mistaken impression that Bonstock had withdrawn from RPing, I posted what I intended to happen between now and stabilization of the country... it should be taken in this context, perhaps, as more of an outline for Spyran & Sujavan government plans over the coming months.

When it comes to 'indonesia', it is not stable. period. It is not a nation-state as in the Western sense, with a common cultural base, but ather was created in the aftermath of the second world war, in which the Japanese ecame increasingly desperate, and allowed the formation of an Indonesian state and army, out of the british and dutch east indies colonies. After the war, the dutch tried to recapture them, but were in a bad position to do so, and so indonesia gained recognition. However, govenment and military were still Javanese, and so a national laguage and philosophy, as well as mythology, were invented and imposed upon the diaspora of the indonesian archipelago.

Now, in A Modern World, the Bonstockians came from somewhere in Europe. The most likely scenario, I think, is a colony which formed into a state after a split at home, which acts like a more beign South Africa... no apartheid, but a bit of institutional racial preference towards whites, dating from the colonial past, and old colonial families still holding large agricultural and commercial interests

As such, the factors which unify Bonstock will be its language (one of the Scandinavian languages, yes?), which would have been imposed through compulsory public education, supported by common popular culture and military presence. With Bonstock gone as an entity, there exist no 'unifying factors' which could create a stable set of states.... the religious conflict between extremist muslims, christians, and native animists, and the cultural conflict between literally hundreds of different racial and tribal groups, all of whom might seek self-rule.

Major General Wu Shin-kua sat at his desk. He was reading a newspaper. Yet another attempt had been made by the Parliament to found a coalition government. The leaders were all shot or had by now fled to Malaysia. Wu grabbed for a cup of coffee. His hands, covered by leather gloves, grasped the handle of the white mug, and slowly lifted it to his emotionless, tired looking face. He looked aged beyond his years, being only forty but looking almost sixty.

A man walked into the room. An aide, much younger, a green young lieutenant.

Wu spoke, without even looking up. "Lieutenant Leung, who's in power today?"

"Five minutes ago, socialist workers stormed the Parliament house. A group of Members of Parliament are declaring your command terminated."

"The last surviving one?"

"Yes."

"What will happen then?"

"They did not say, sir."

"How ready are the men, Lieutenant?"

"Good readiness."

"Tell them to get in their tanks in five minutes."

"Sir?"

"I'm tired of this constant state of terror in our capital. It's humiliating."

"Capital? This is our entire country."

"That is something I wish to correct."

"Sir? The Marimaians! The Hudecians! The Sinoese! They will all go after you."

"Actually, they've all given me something they could not have imagined. Foreign troops at our borders will put the populace on edge. They want a strong leader to look to. I'll give them that."

"But there might be opposition."

"We will destroy anyone in our path. Put that in order form, and make it official. We drive to Parliament house in five minutes."

"Go. Every second is critical. The die is now cast."

"At once." He saluted, and was off.

Kuala Lumpur, Tanah Melayu (aka Malaysia)

Prince Jamil looked troubled as his Marimaian liaison told him about the Sinoese forces moving down towards his nation.

"Are you absolutely sure that they're peaceful?"

Sakda nodded. "They want to move into Singapore. If they do, then the final bastion of the old regime is occupied. Then all you have to worry about is constructing a strong state and putting down any remaining resistance. Marimaia will of course help you with both."

"What about Sabah and Sarawak? They've already declared their intentions to leave the Federation unless they are given more influence in the new government. They have substantial oil wealth, wealth which we could put to good use!"

Sakda smiled reassuringly; the young prince had a lot to learn. "I assure you, the situation will be dealt with. You are under Marimaian protection now, we will not allow your nation to become a pauper state; you have my word."

Jamil sat down with a sigh. "The populace still need to be convinced. While your people are closer ethnic cousins to us than the white Bonstockians, to many you are still an occupying force. Your politeness and discipline are helping matters, as is the constant assistance your soldiers offer our civilians, but it'll be a while before we can safely say that this nation is secure."

"Indeed. While we are talking about security, have you decided what to do with those Bonstockians we caught? One of them was babbling about being important, a Parliament member or something similar."

Jamil shook his head. "I'm torn between having them executed as members of the old regime and granting them asylum. What would Premier Suun do?"

Sakda grinned broadly. "Premier Suun would have the hardcore Singapore loyalists weeded out and executed. Then he'd probably invite the remainder to either form a government-in-exile or allow them to settle down in Marimaia, under surveillance naturally. We could ship them to Marimaia for you and hold onto them until you've made your mind up."

Sujava

Spyran staff involved in Sujava were having difficulty uncovering a path to stability. The remainder of the SRA 3rd Army had been shipped to the area as quickly as possible, but the SRA troops were confined primarily to central Java, Jakarta, and southern Sumatra, where the Javanese population sees secular socialism as a path to alleviate labour and land-division woes.

On Madura and northeastern Java, Madurese populations are proving somewhat resistant, if not violently so... known for their refusal to accept outside influences, the Madurese seek to re-establish cultural strength and independance after years of forced integration. They do not object to the evolving Sujavan policies... so long as they dont force cultural change upon the Madurese.

In western Java, the Sundanese population tended towards a more extremist form of Islam, at least in that they were expressing desire for the establishment of a Sundanese state. Likewise, muslims in Aceh, northern Sumatra, had begun to issue similar calls.

The Balinese have proven much more pragmatic... The Hindu majority does not see the need for a hindu state on Bali, so long as their religion and culture are respected. The economic opportunities of integration politically into the Sujavan framework are recognized and sought out.

The strife in this city had escalated to chaotic proportions as gangs and thugs armed with weapons stolen from Bonstockian army depots. Christians and Muslims attacked each other with ferocity as the cycle of retaliation only brought about more instability and escalation.

Hudecian troops were forced to land late at night more than a day later than they had been scheduled to because of the violence. The intial group was lightly armed and only secured the city docks, hoping to be able to land more troops and equipment once the sun rose. Hudecian military leaders in the convoy expected that once certain groups learned of their arrival, they would stop at nothing to ensure that Hudecia's stay was short-lived and bloody.

The first of the Quinntonian marines and commadoe units were being airdropped in the areas marked for immediate and near future occupation by the now coming Quinntonian "First Wave" force that was on its way from Hawaii.
Troops were landing on the Indonesian side of the Island of New Guinea first, being dropped in heavily armed groups of about a company each (160).
They were doing major recon and making contact with friendlies in the areas, with an eye on securing the citeis of Jayapura, Kepi, Marauke, Kokenau, Kaimana, Fakfak, Sorona, Manakwari, Sarmi and the small island of Biak. About 2000 marines, commandoes and airborne elites are dropped into the areas, paving the way for peace.
The main force that was on its way, was now just passing through the Marshall Islands.
The troops being dropped were all being flown in from Quinntonian Dra-pol, though it is far, it can be used as a primary staging piont for now.

Also, in Quinntonian Dra-pol, large amounts of government sanctioned aid workers are being brought together for deployment, now that it has been proven that we can successfully move 2000 people by air in a 24 hours, there are plans being put together to use the same method for the aid workers, though because they will have far more in the way of foodstuffs and medical supplies, we will only be able to move 1000 per day. Probably only two out of every three days as well, with all the supplies that have to be supplied to Nepal.

In Sujava, the provisional government had begun to work out the details of its land and labour reforms. Large farming plantations were divided up into small lots for individual tenant families, while factory workers were guaranteed wage and safety standards. The government also began to spend the loans forwarded by the Spyran government, expanding public work projects and employment.

To deal with the large numbers of unemployed soldiers returning to their homes, the government had taken several steps. Land reform had increased family demand for labour, calling sons back to rural areas where they might at last achieve wealth through agricultural production. Factory employment increased as foreign investment began to establish facilities, but such was having a negligible effect... very few workers were bing laid off, but even fewer were being hired for new positions. The government had also begun to consolidate its own miliary forces, estimated at a hundred thousand personnel, almost all of whom had been part of the former Federal Republic armed forces. Several officers had been lower-ranking Bonstockian military staff, though there was a markedly noticeable bias aganst those of european descent in terms of those selected to remain mobilized.

Large-scale infrastructure projects had been established, to dissasemble power-projection equipment and facilities, and make sure public infrastructure was in optimal condition, providing further employment.

The Sujavan government was uncertain about reaction to seperatists in Aceh and Sunda. Some wished to negotiate peaceful co-existance, others wanted to force the rogue provinces into line, but under Spyran advice they refrained from action until their own territories were fully stabilized. On their part, the Spyrans have no desire to force integration upon unwilling cultures. Their mission goals are the clear 'remove power-projection capability from former bonstockian territories' and the much more vague 'assist in restoration of prosperity and stability to the liberated peoples of the fallen Federal Republic, in accordance with Strainist ideology'... a directive which lacks a mandate to impose structures on a population which does not desire them.

As such, SRA education campaigns begin in Madura, Aceh, and Sunda, with the hope of establishing a rapport with the local leaders and a basis for some sort of union within Sujava.

The LRRA units, along with plentiful medical and civil engineering resources, land in Indonesia after several days' travel.

Immediately, they begin co-ordinating with the other forces on the ground there.

The sight of a large foreign naval task group, complete with an aircraft carrier and therefore the ability to make strikes with near impunity (or at least as far as they know...mabye Bonstock's got some RBS-70s in those depots o' his), will hopefully calm the situation down significantly.

Preparations are made to land troops off of the old Fearless class LPD and gaggle of newer LSTs.

Malaysia

The Marimaian hearts and minds offensive continued to extol the virtues of both Prince Jamil and his Marimaian guests. Poster campaigns, media broadcasts and newspaper articles all painted Jamil as a strong visionary, creating a new dynamic Malaysia from the rubble of the Federal Republic. The Marimaians were portrayed as friends and brothers, unable to help while Bonstock existed but now assisting their southern neighbours in every way possible.

The Marimaian Ministry of Foreign Relations also offered to chair negotiations between Tanah Melayu and the breakaway regions of Sabah and Sarawak. Although Jamil was greatly impressed by this, the Marimaians realised that Sabah and Sarawak would probably make unrealistic demands; therefore, plans were being drawn up for Tanah Melayu to continue on its own.

The first signs of investment from Marimaia began filtering in, with the announcement that Shin Fai Armaments Concern was negotiating to build a new manufacturing complex in Kuala Lumpur, creating over 1000 new jobs. Similar announcements followed from various Concerns, stating that new facilities would be under construction all over Tanah Melayu once final negotiations with the Jamil government were finished.

The Jamil government also began drawing up plans for the new Malayan Armed Forces. Order was currently being maintained by Marimaian troops and the 'Hasan Army', a ragtag militia of former conscripts, vigilantes, former police officers and a number of people who joined for an excuse to carry a gun in public, all of whom had joined the new regime either out of loyalty, nationalism or opportunism. The Marimaians had flown in NeoSuun Guard instructors to train the Hasan Army, as Jamil envisioned them becoming his own elite force.

The education system was overhauled, with Bonstockian being banned as a language subject; two new subjects took its place, namely Malay and Marimaian (although Marimaian was made optional, as there was no intention to force the local populace to learn Marimaian when the Marimaians in the country either spoke Malay or had translators to hand).

Within hours of the initial landing, Muslim groups launched major offensives against the Hudecians. However, rather than inspiring an island wide jihad, the result was the opposite of what was expected. Christians, moderate Muslims and other religious groups banded together and fought back, giving the Hudecians time to land the necessary troops and weapons to properly repulse attacks.

Soon, with the help of the various allied militias, Manado was secure and the majority of the Muslim extremists were repulsed. Pictures of Muslims, Buddhists and Christians fighting side by side in Manado were useful in 'propaganda' campaigns. Stories were quickly disseminated all around the island about how the people of Manado, whether Christian or Muslim joined together to establish peace and order in their city after weeks of chaos.

The massive Quinntonian fleet of troop trabsposrt, hospital ships, and warships of all kinds are being moved ever closer to the islands marked for protection, now passing through the islands of Micronesia, dropping off major amounts of troops and supplies into the bases that had been recently built there.
The major amounts of planes that were being gathered in Las Angeles were now making the first leg of their journey into the Asian region, with most of the bombers flying directly to bases dotted throughout that had been prepared for the last couple months, while the much lower range fighters were flying to Hawaii, awaiting further orders into bases in Micronesia and the Caroline Islands.
At this time, a massive Merchant Marine Fleet was also being gathered together in Las Angeles, filled with cargoe ships and oil tankers, to begin the long, arduous job of supplying the many new bases that were going into the region.

Unfortunately, with the new developments in Kenendru, the aid workers that were flagged to come to Indonesia, cannot, not only are they now needed to care for the influx of refugees, but the plnes that would have transported them and their supplies are being used to shuttle said refugees.

The government of Quinntonian Dra-pol is now openly buying huge foodstocks and oil on the commodities markets of the world in vast amounts. They are also encouraging private missionary organisations to start to use the private airlines to move people into the city to care for the new refugees, hoping that this will free up enough aid workers to move them into Indonesia.

In related news, Prime Minister Jesse Obed has opened up the topic for debate in the House of Commons, the vocal opposition party, The LARC Party (Lutherans, Anglicans and Roman Catholics) is raising its concerns about the major amounst of money that are being spent, bith at home and in the Protectorates. Questions were also raised as to whether the Prime Minister's party, The Ecunemical Alliance, were trying to spread the Quinntonian military resources too thin. It is expected that a bill will be introduced to the floor soon that will ask Parliament to open up the Federal Coffers in order to pay for this build-up, as well as the commodities that are being bought.

In a subsequent meeting of The Council of Bishops, the prime Minister asked the Council to open their hearts to thos that were in peril, and recommended that the various church organisations open their personal Treasuries for an UNPRECEDENTED FOURTH TIME in his career! He aske that they do this to help take the finacial burden off of the government so that they could concentrate their limited resources on the expensive business of securing the Bonstockian nuclear stockpiles. He asked that they take over the funding of all aid workers and start buying food and medical supplies on the commodities markets. They then closed the session to the public for private prayer and debate.

Parliament House, Singapore

Tanks quickly surrounded the once-powerful Parliament of the Federal Republic. Troops gave an ultimatum to all inside: get out, or be stormed. Minutes went by with no response. Helicopters were flying overhead, and artillery was in the distance.

"General Wu, no response."

"Launch the raid. And commence the PSYOPS operations."

"Yes. At once."

A loud megaphone started playing music:

http://www.carolinaclassical.com/articles/wagnervalkyries.html

Artillery blasted away without any regard, showering the Parliament with shells. A surviving Draken class battleship, the Aurora, gave a full 9 20 inch gun volley into the old building. Fighter jets came in and dropped bombs, and helicopters fired in rockets. Tanks began shelling. Only minimal fire was taken from the building. But the inhabitants refused to surrender.

Finally, thousands of infantrymen broke in and stormed the Parliament offices. Every last Member of Parliament, including their families, were shot fighting, or were brought out and shot. General Wu was pleased.

A speech was soon given in the streets by General Wu:

"People of the Federal Republic, the oligarchy of Bonstocknian rule has finally been overthrown. The one impediment to our conquest has been at last obliterated. Now we must pick up the torch. My comrades in arms, rise up to reclaim what was once yours. Our emprire, which was once far and wide, is now a mere city. I call upon you all to change that. Our collective blood and sweat will unite an empire from the frozen tundra of Siberia to the outback of Australia, from the Eastern Ocean to the Western Mountains and beyond. Then, and only then, we will have peace and rice, and we shall rule the world. Tremble, pathetic world, we have arrived!"

Crowds cheered.

The Quinntonian fleet is now froming up into the positions and plotting the trajectories that will take the final Battle Groups and support ships into the ex-Bonstockian Empire.
At the harbour in New Orleans, portions of the Atlantic Fleet are being met by another Merchant Marine Fleet to begin to stockpile more of the much needed fule that will be required to keep the effort in Bonstock going.

The already landed lead elements are progressing nicely, with a minumum of ex-Bonstockian military units turned Partisan fighters. But those fighters were unorgnaised, spread out, poorly equipped and let's face it, exhausted. They were easy prey for the fresh, well-equipped and enthusiastic units that they were facing from Quinntonia.
Besides that, the islands were being adequetly prepared for the massive Quinntonian forces on the way.

The intelligence operatives in the ex-Bonstockian capital were furiously reporting yet another military coup and keeping an eye on this one.

Sabah

The old Colonel marched with his former special operations unit, somewhere in Sabah. A sympathetic villager had just given them some cold rice, and the boys shot a few rats, cooked them, and ate them. That was their idea of R&R.

They marched to a small depot, unoticed in the vast jungle, where Bonstock had once kept ammunition. It was guarded by soldiers, but far too deep to be spotted, except by a very detirmined jungle unit.

For months, these men had wandered the jungle, helplessly trying to find home. At last, they simply decided to survive. They lived off the generosity of villagers and droppings of enemy soldiers. Home was but a distant memory.

After taking some ammunition from the dump, they started out towards local road. Perhaps it would lead to the next village. By nightfall, tired and hungry, they reached it. Then they heard something. Trucks, maybe four of them. A good sized convoy. Scared, they retreated to the jungle. The trucks came closer. Ever closer. Finally, the trucks were near. Without thinking, one of the men redied his RPG launcher, and aimed it at the road. The lead truck passed by. The man fired his RPG, straight at the cab, which blew up in flames. Instantly, the convoy stopped, and one of the men took an RPD machine gun and sprayed the other truck cabs, the others doing the same with AK-47s. Silence ensued. The men looked into the trucks. MREs, ammo, and all sorts of supplies were there. Greedily, the men grabbed whatever they could carry. The colonel looked pleased. Then the men were off, before whatever the enemy was could find them.

The government doesn't know what to do with the telegram. Do they help, or do they stay safely in the background? Moreover, when a clear leader emerges, will they look upon LRR favorably, or as a weak, spread-out plain of oil begging to be annexed.

Therefore, the high command orders several divisons to the Manchurian border pending possible future operations, although it is unlikely that they will be going anyplace very soon.

Messages are also sent to the Sinoese Junta concerning the possible resurgance of Bonstock, which is viewed as the common enemy. While the espionage establishment in LRR is shaky at best, General Wu's statement sounded alarms with its mention of LRR territory specifically. After all, the LRRA is significantly smaller and strung-out than any potential renewed Bonstockian force.

OCC: Xiaguo, could you give me a picture of the situation as it is currently laid out? Who's the good guys? Who's the bad guys? Should I just stay out of it? I have no idea who to believe or support. The last thing I wanted was a war in China.

As Hudecian troops fanned out over the island, the divisional headquarters was set up in Manado. Although Hudecia's military had a clear tilt towards the Christian communities on the island, they forced themselves to do more to help the Muslim communities.

Muslim members of the Hudecian army were encouraged to attend services at local mosques, Muslim communities were among the first to receive food and water aid upon the arrival of the troops. However, Muslims were also the first to be disarmed.

An 'arms for guns' program began collecting weapons from the predominantly Muslim neighbourhoods first, and only as a response to the low levels of response the first few days, expanded the arms collection to Christian and to other groups.

-Ottawa-

Hudecian parliament was weighing its options with respect to the Indonesian crises. Although many, including the opposition Conservatives and Family Coalition Party, supported a 'humanitarian' intervention to help establish democracy, there was great concern about overextending Hudecia's military.

Since many of Hudecia's warships were either damaged or destroyed in the last war, there was some concern about transport safety. As well, with Drapol's quietness there was some discomfort about what they were scheming.

Finally, a deal was struck to deploy the entire IX Corps to Indonesia as well as send $1.5 billion in economic aid over 5 years. With the opening of Sulawesi Island to economic aid, there was a great deal of work that could be done.

Hudecian military scouts had infiltrated the island a week ago and were now sending back reports on the stability of the island and its current geo-political status.

Huge public opposition goes along with the arms collection. Most Indonsians simply did not want to trade their AK-47s and RPGs. Some simply refuse the program. Others, pressed by the Hudecians, start firing their Kalashnikovs into the air, as a threat.

In addition, a growing underground terrorist network was forming. IEDs were placed on roadsides and bridges where Hudecian patrols wandered. Abushers with AK-47s, RPD machine guns, and RPGs waited for Hudecian armored convoys, ready to fire, then slip back into the jungle.

OOC: Bonstock...perhaps you could explain something to me. You see, at first it seemed that Bonstock in Asia was controlled by a European homeland, which would mean that a great diversity of Asianic people were being controlled and oppressed in a military regime by a white European minority. Now, after the fall of the regime across Asia in which the Bonstockian minority actually orders nuclear strikes at areas where it would kill native populations, this group of diverse ethnicities are going to band together against the Asian "invaders" who are actually providing humanitarian aid and stability to regions formerly in Bonstock?

You see man...this doesn't make sense. Perhaps there would be some Bonstockian loyalists among the people, but certainly not in any appreciatable amounts. OOC: First of all, as I probably should have made clear before, the Bonstock of the Modern World was simply the union of Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. There wasn't really a white majority. I had charachters with white names because they were from other time periods.

Second, though the Malaysians and Indonesians probably didn't like the Singapore-run Federal Republic, they still dislike any foreign invaders. They had power in the old regime. They voted for members of Parliament, who perpetually re-elelected Lord Harald due to his popularity. Now, they have no power. Foreign troops are on their soil. I know how I'd react to foreign soldiers marching around Washington DC.

Third, if you say how could Bonstock's vast ethnicities be bound together, how does Marimaia keep from capitulating? He has Cambodians, Laotians, Thais, and Burmans, with all the various subgroups, and yet everyone loves Premier Suun.

Fourth, if you'd like to collectively ignore me, go ahead. It would be shitty RP on your part. I actually don't want to sit around with a bunch of whiners like you. So if you want to, go ahead.

I am all for allowing Bonstock to continue to RP his nation, but I think that you must face reality as well, most of your military is destroyed in expensive and costly wars. there is no population on earth that would be like <"hmm, the government just fired off multiple nuclear weapons, lovin them goofy guys!"
In this time, food production and mediacl care, along with the majority of government supplied and protected infrastructure has utterly collapsed! If there are troops loyal to Bonstock left, they are on the verge of collapse. The people are scared, starving and looking for protection. Foriegn soldiers might very well send some into the underground, becoming terrorists and predators, but they would end up feeding on their own starving people.
I'm not going to say that all the people would fall at the foriegners feet in worship, but they are coming, almost unanimously, to provide medical care, food and most importantly, security. Right now in Bonstock there is a serious need to protect the people from thmeselves. There are a lot of weapons lying around, and old grudges would be coming to the fore.

As for Marimaia, just like Bonstock, or former Czechoslovakia, or the Soviet Union, to give some relatively modern RL examples, many faction can be united under a strong leadership.
Bonstock had that under the near mythical Lord Harald. He is gone. All the leaders now offer is more of the same hardships that Lord harald offered but with none of the charisma or personal power.

In closing, Bonstock, play your nation, allow your people to repond in what way you choose. But a popular, united resistamce movement springin up all over the former Bonstockian territory, give me a break, maybe in some regions, but not everywhere, and they would be fighting for their little sphere of influence, not for some united Bonstock of old.
The majority of the people would just want security and stability, politics are best done on a full stomach.

IC- The Fleet is now arrayed all around their strike zones. The people of New Guniue look nervously out from the shores of the island to the ships all around and the planes flying overhead. Already, there were parachutes being seen all over the sky as the first of the Elite Airbornes land to secure the strike-zones, out there, in the sea, the Marines were being readied, major resistance was not expected, and in all probablity there would be no fight, but this operation was to be carried out like one was coming.

Throughout the day leading up to this moment, there had been major explosions as the elements that were already here were destroyed or engaged and held stationary so the airborne units could reinforce them and take control of the island.
There would be no compromise with thsi operation, the island was to be used as a stabilizing stronghold in the area, a foothold for future operations.

On Sulawesi Island, the LRR forces landed there try to get into contact with the Hudecian forces deployed on the island.

Occupying a small compound of huts on stilts in a bay, the expeditionary force is mostly concerned about distributing food and medical aid. Landing craft bring in shipments of rice and MREs, and medical aid stations are set up as well.

XA-185s with applique armor and 20mm cannon turrets provide security for convoys of Unimog trucks, also with applique armor around the cabs, as Harriers fly overhead.

ooc: There isn't much of a military left; and no, these angry mobs just want foreigners out. They don't want a return to the old ways. Sure, many liked Lord Harald (after all, HE wasnt the one who fired the nukes), but they just see any foreign troops as impeding their real desire: to bash eachother for control of what's left of the Federal Republic.

But, perhaps I've been doing some bad. Here:

ic:

Kuala Lumpur

A nice little UPS truck wandered among the taxis and donkeys in this crowded city, with the Petronas towers looming overhead. He knew he was on a mission or jihad, but not against the Marimaians. Long had he seen the Chinese of Malaysia become wealthy while the native Malays suffered. Today was one first step to change that.

The truck pulled into an apartment complex where many Chinese Malaysians lived. The man got out, and walked calmly away on foot. After five minutes, the truck exploded, destroying most of the aparment complex and killing dozens.

Somewhat grudgingly, most of the civilians on Sulawesi took their rations, despite the warnings of village elders that they were poisoned. Some, after taking the food, smiled. Some gave the Hudecians and LRR troops the middle finger. A few stared at the neat MRE packages, unaware what they should do with them.

Still, some rogue elements waited in the jungle by the roads. When the LRR convoys came, they sprayed the lead IFV (ooc: XA-185 is an IFV, right?) with RPK machine gun fire. The IFV stopped, and fired off 20mm shells, killing two of the insurgants. One, however, managed to fire off an armor-piercing RPG at one of the Unomag trucks at point-blank range. Soldiers started getting out of the IFVs, and were sprae with AK and RPK fire, though this was by no means accurate, and the insurgants began fleeing into the jungle, two more of their own being cut down by enemy fire.

The XA-185s spray the jungle with 20mm and 12.7mm fire from their turrets while infantrymen fire with their Ak-74s and RPG-7s at the insurgents from firing ports. While generally somewhat poorly equipped, LRRA infantrymen are by no means poorly trained. They know that they should stay inside the vehicle when such small-caliber weaponry is brought to bear against them.

The Unimog takes the hit, but the RPG warhead hits the bed as opposed to the cab, and the two-man crew jumps out onto the road with their folding-stock Ak-74s and joins the troops firing on the insurgents as they flee.

Designed to withstand RPG hits, the XA-185s, with their heavy applique armor, are impervious to almost anything that the rebels can throw at them. As the insurgents run, the flaming Unimog is pushed off the road, and the convoy gets moving. The commander would probably later be reprimanded for stopping to engage, rather than continuing to move, but overhead a pair of Harriers loiter, waiting for the next ambush. Armed with folding-fin rockets and laser guided bombs, they will hopefully be able to clear out any more insurgents handily.

Meanwhile, at an airstrip in Manado, an Il-76 transport plane touches down, carrying food and medical aid, as well as several state-of-the-art water purification systems.

IC: Mioka-ro has pledged to support Spyran troops in the Sujavan theatre with a section of the Arrowguard air cavalry, supported by Arrowguard soldiers. Plans are being drafted for a temporary Yamani fortification in Java, where the tilt rotors can respond to attacks across the country side. Yamani announcements have made it clear that it has no long term interests in the region, and will work closely with the native army the Spyrans are training.

The Yamani will be long in coming, however, as the nation has been landlocked until the recent Warlord conflict in Lyong and will have to seek transportation assistance from the Lyong Joint Military Command.

With Sulawesi Island's citizens more or less appreciative of the humanitarian assistance brought by the LRRA, units begin training local police and militia units, as Spyr and North yaman are doing as well.

With an airstrip up and running in Manado, one just good enough to accomodate the rugged brand of LRRAF transport aircraft, more troops are brought in, and at the same time more medical supplies and public works equipment. An engineer brigade is en route from Sakhalin'sk, equipped with the new BMP-5E armored personnel carriers, specialized for engineer tasks with mine rollers, plows, and cranes. The engineers will supplement the current support units in Sulawesi.

Back in LRR proper, winter settles in across the broad LRR landscape. Engineer units constantly clear snow off of the few good roads that go through the siberian taiga, and big snowplow trains clear off the Trans-Siberian railway. Icebreakers are a constant sight on rivers and off ports, especially in Kamchatka and the Arctic Sea. Bv-206 carriers prove their worth, crossing deep snow and ice to keep villages and towns in contact with the outside world. They also fufill most of the army's logistical functions as well, transporting supplies to units spread across Russia.

The BMP-5 proves very effective in snow as well, participating in small-scale winter excersizes.

The National Government of CHina, situated in Manchuria has ordered parades of Bonstockians, and foreign officials of all sorts marching with yin yangheads, wearing only under garmets, men with makeup, wearing dunce caps, name cards, tails, and other humialiating miscraft.

The hatred of foreigners, even allies of Northern China, have grown since the civil war has started. Noth by any side, but by both. The Northern CHinese populous has built up a deep hatred for foreign countries and have asked, "Where are our friends?"

"Our once allies, have forgotten us, we are only to defend us against ourselves. As our enemies may eek foreign help, we have already lost that hope, of seeking foreign aid.

Still with no idea as to how to react in Xiaguo, LRRA divisions remain stationary on the Manchurian border, looking across. Refugees continue to stream across the border, under the protection of PT-91Bs and a wide range of antitank vehicles.

Artillery, such as 2S19B and FH-77 howitzers, along with BM-21s and BM-27s, is positioned within range of the Manchurian border to protect refugees from any pursuing units, and LRRAF aircraft maintain a 24-hour patrol over the area. Many of the vehicles are equipped with the new TM-13 guided system, which allows artillery rockets to be guided onto a target and used as ATGMs as well as saturation weapons.

S-300PMU SAM units are also bolstered with some new S-400s in from the armories, and along with SA-11s, this gives the LRRA and LRRAF a very good level of air protection over the Manchurian border.

While the LRRAF is often criticized for having the MiG-21 as its primary fighter type, the newest and most numerous MiG-21-2000 variant is at least comparable, and in some respects superior to the Saab Gripen. However, it is no secret that the LRRAF is considering expanding its L-159 fleet to replace all but about 200 MiG-21-2000s, and constructing perhaps 75-100 FRA. 4 aircraft to supplement the higher-tech force.

Spyan forces on Java and Sumatra were on high alert as resistance from former Bonstockian military soldiers began to increase. The Spyrans had little to fear from the Javanese, who held most of the power in the provisional government, but ethnic Sundanese and Islamic groups in Aceh had begun active resistance to central authority, adding to the difficulties caused by scattered ex-FRB units fighting as guerillas. While not actively resisting, ethnic Balinese, and Chinese in Jakarta, were acting with caution, seeking guarantees of security and authority from the Provisional Government... some militia groups were forming within those communities in case of Javanese attempts at total domination.

In this environment, the Sujavan provisional government was issuing more and more requests for Spyran troops to support security operations... there was not enough manpower to put forces everywhere, and some requests from local Sujavan military officers ended up being more about suppressing other ethnicities than maintaining security, which violated the Spyran operational orders and were thus left unfulfilled while forces were sent to more peacekeeping and reconstruction related tasks.

IC:

The attack on the apartment complex was greeted with a rapid response; Marimaian personnel arrived and assisted the emergency services in the rescuing of survivors, and the fire was brought under control. Prince Jamil appeared on television to condemn the attack; he immediately blamed extremists loyal to the old regime, as only they would be cowardly enough to attack innocent civilians. Jamil also called for calm and cooperation.

Several witnesses reported to the Marimaian peacekeepers, describing the driver of the truck; the Marimaians began coordinating with the city's police to find the suspect.

In the aftermath, Marimaian Premier Apsara Supachai ordered measures to cut off insurgents from their suspected headquarters. Airstrikes were called on all bridges and causeways linking Singapore to the mainland; the city was soon left without any land link, leaving them with only air and sea links. Plans were also being drawn up for missile strikes on the city; she was a lot more hardline than the soon-to-be-coronated Suun, and was ready to wipe the city out if it meant ensuring security.

Not about to be outdone, the LRR government immediately approves an economic aid package for Indonesia. This package draws directly from the Mig-21 replacement fund, so therefore the LRRAF will be flying the type for some years more. However, the MiG-21-2000 exceeds the L-159 in many key areas of performance. With its larger wing, the landing speed problems and low payload capacity of the original variant have been remedied.

With the arrival of the engineers in Manado, the installation of the new water purification systems is begun in larger communities. Insurgents will find the BMP-5E an almost impossible nut to crack, unless they get their hands on some serious anti-tank weaponry or artillery. Engineers are able to travel with near impunity, and perform their missions in the Manado area quickly and without trouble.

Humanitarian supplies continue to be distributed, but new shipments of MT-3 tractors, as well as numerous other agricultural supplies, are distributed to local farmers as well.

The number of LRRA forces on Sulawesi island peaks at around 10,000- divisional strength. The majority of these troops are part of the combat support detachments of idle divisions of the pacific defense district, but they are still very heavily armed and well-trained. There are also two battallions of amphibious infantry, and they are charged with providing a dedicated combat force to the expedition, which has become quite large and well-furnished with ships.

Hopefully, the increase in troops coupled with the increase in aid, both short and long term, will help increase popular support and diminish the insurgent movement.

The LRR government is, at the least, unhappy with the destruction of vital land routes into Singapore. Protests are sent to the Marimaian government, claiming that the destruction of vital transport routes for food and necessities can easily lead to a repeat of Mergui.

While the government would very much like to see the entirety of the Bonstockian navy at the bottom of the Singapore strait, the destruction of what are deemed civilian targets is viewed as very wrong. After all, what's the point of beating Bonstock if Lord Harald is going to be replaced by Premier Sunn?

Back on Sulawesi island, aid shipments continue, and engineers begin and assist public works and civil engineering projects across the island. They construct new bridges, upgrade irrigation systems, and install the self-contained pumping units for water. Local citizens are always heavily employed in such projects, and extensive courses in the maintainance of the pumps, as well as the tractors imported from LRR are taught so in case anything goes wrong the local people can fix the problem.

Calls for war with Marimaia echoed in Singapore. The Chinese minority in Malaysia, seeing the destruction of land routes to their Singaporian cousins, grew incenced with Marimaian actions. The ethnic Malays, angeed that Premier Suun labelled an act of theirs one of the "former regime," became equally angry.

Protestors surrounded the headquarters of the Marimaian goverment in Kuala Lumpur. Chinese demanded bridges to Singapore, and an official apology. The Malays demanded Suun retract his statement about the Malay bomber. Both parties threw rocks and insults at Marimaian soldiers. A few college students, seeing an abandoned local gas station, stole some beer, got heavily drunk, and then put gasoline into the beer bottles. After tying rags to the bottle's tops, they take cigarette lighters and light the rags. Finally, they hurl their bottles at Marimaian soldiers around the protestors.

Meanwhile, in Sujava, inhabitants grew a bit more grudgingly accepting of the LRR and Hudecian soldiers, though their are calls from many for elections as soon as possible. Most began counting the days, hoping the LRRs and Hudecians will leave soon. Meanwhile, many old army soldiers turn themselves in, and ask for a position in a new army.

IC:

The Marimaians tried imploring the protestors to disperse; in the end, Jamil was escorted out of his palace to address the protestors personally.

"My people, rest assured that I will not let the destruction of those bridges go without notice! I ask you though; why are you in support of terrorism? Do our people really attack civilians with bombs? Do we really turn on each other as soon as we gain our freedom? We have an opportunity here to live in peace, without the rest of Asia baying for our blood. Yet there are obviously some who wish to tear this peace asunder and murder innocent civilians. Do not let our opportunity slip through our fingers, I beg you. Things are improving; I will have the Marimaians rebuild those bridges and apologise. I will have them pay compensation. Please, return to your homes; if the Marimaians were the swine that they are portrayed as, they would surely have shot you all by now."

Jamil returned to his palace, where he called the Marimaian government; more specifically, going over Premier Supachai's head straight to Chiisu Suun.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taishita, Marimaia

"Your Excellency, you authorised that attack!"

"I am well aware that I gave you permission to attack those bridges, but you acted on that permission. Apsara, I want you to apologise and offer compensation."

"What?! Your Excellency, I must protest! We were in the right!"

Suun shook his head. "Merely admit that you made a mistake, apologise and make up for it. I've had to apologise to other nations before, you get used to it."

"We are the superior nation, damn it! We shouldn't have to apologise for our actions if it means safeguarding citizens!"

Apsara sank down in her chair and lit a cigar. "However, as you have said yourself many times, part of being superior means knowing when you've done wrong. Very well Your Excellency, I shall apologise."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The broadcast was transmitted to all nations (except Marimaia, of course):

"My name is Apsara Supachai; I am the Premier of Marimaia. A few days ago, our airforce destroyed all land links from Singapore to Malaysia. I thought I was doing the right thing, but I see I was wrong. I am here to apologise on behalf of the Marimaian government for the incident. I think there may be some confusion as to presence of foreign troops and aid in specfic areas. As I understand it, matters are as follows:

Marimaia: penninsular Malaysia, excluding Singapore.

Spyr: 'Sujava', Javanese provisional state spanning Sumatra, Java, and Bali islands. However, Spyran presence is limited by available resources and local unrest... it is absent in Sunda (western Java, excluding Jakarta) and Aceh (western tip of Sumatra), and still limited in central Sumatra as further aid shipments arrive and troops are freed up through replacement by Sujavan Defence Forces [this would be the army Spyr is attempting to help put together for Sujava. Due to the present cicumstances, many of its members are ex-Bonstockian military members... including some officers, though no upper ranks have been held over... who have seen a new opportunity emerging after the fall of the FRB.

North Yaman: Some units (not particularly numerous) supporting Spyran operations in Sujava. The Yamani have been garrisoned in Bali as security for Spyran humanitarian efforts.

"Brilliant. We shall go at once."

Abdulla's militias reported all Sinoese activity, greatly helping the Singaporians in their defense. Fighters were soon redied, but the first strike would be left to the militants, so as not to indite the Singaporians.

They moved in silently, with complete stealth. They were clad in civilian cloths, with armament no larger then AK-47s, RPK machine guns, and RPG launchers, with a sprinkling of mortars. It was ready.

"Abdulla, we have our forces ready. We're convinced the attack is coming this night."

"Does Sino have any idea of our presence?"

"Probably not. They think we're focused on Prince Jamil."

"Good. The rioters in Kuala Lumpur have done us a service."

"Anyway, they have tanks and APCs ready for the invasion, along with many small boats."

"They will leave at three. We attack just after sundown."

"Sir, why not in the light?"

"They will patrol right before dusk, then retire to form up their invasion. Have mortars shell their boats, and then send in the sappers. Give them a headache."

"All right."

"By the way, I will personally lead a sapper platoon. We shall get into the Sinoese facility at Selat Johor."

"Sir, you may be killed!"

"Better to be a martyr then to live to see defeat."

"Sir, this is suicide!"

"I will do as I please."

"Very well, sir."

Selat Johor

The sun slowly set over the Straits of Malacca, finally burying itself in the mountains of Sumatra. Iban Abu Abdulla looked out through his binoculars. The Sinoese had come back; it was now dark. This would be a confusing melee, but they were detirmined to keep Sino from having any more light. An EMP bomb, siezed from an abandoned Bonstocknian ammo dump, was brought up for the attack. Both sides would fight in moonlight.

Abdulla turned to young boy. "Detonate the EMP," he said. The boy ran off to tell the bomb crew. In a minute, the EMP went off, and any electronics in a ten mile radius stopped, including night vision goggles and fire control systems.

Abdulla turned to another boy. "Fire the mortars," he said. The boy ran off, and a loud popping noise was heard. Then another. And another, until they became a storm upon the Sinoese amphibious tanks, APCs, and boats.

Abdulla turned to a small group of nine sappers that he was commanding. "All right ladies and gentlemen, this is it. We must defend Singapore, or at least distract the foreign devils while our friend Wu prepares. This will be a great battle for the defense of our way of life. Remember your brothers who fell before. Remember your families who wait anxiously for deliverance. Remember the sacrafice of Lord Harald and his men in Maropian Coast. Now is the time that God has given us. Our opperatunity to prove ourselves before his eyes. Either we are victorious, or we are martyrs. Both are great honors."

The mortars continued popping. RPGs were fired from concealed positions at Sinoese gates. Then, a truck drove up nearby. Taking Sinoese fire, it sped up, straight into a wall. It blew up, destroying a section of the walls.

"Allah Ackbar!" shouted Abdulla.

"Allah Ackbar!" his troops responded. They rushed down their hill top position, towards the Sinoese base. Mortars concentrated on the breach in the Sinoese defenses as the sappers marched forward. Diving down into the barbed wire, they crawled through what was left, and emerged, taking heavy machine gun fire. Two of them got caught, and were shot to death. But Abdulla and his men pressed on. Sinoese soldiers rushed out of their barracks, and Abdulla himself took an RPD machine gun and started shooting them as they ran out. Two of his men were shot, and Abdulla himself recieved a wound in his arm. Clutching the wound, he led his men towards a Sinoese communications facility. More sappers came to reinforce them, but nearly a dozen had died trying, only four making it through to reinforce them. But they carried their deadly cargo: TNT, to detonate the communications facility. Machine guns from bunkers all around made such activty hazerdous, despite a distraction with RPGs and mortars nearby.

A dozen Sinoese soldiers got out of the facility. Abdulla and his men crouched down. The Sinoese, their night vision goggles made worthless by EMP blasts, were hardpressed looking. Exactly as planned. They got in a group. Abdulla pulled the pin of a grenade, and threw it over at them. It blew up, and Abdulla and his men shot the Sinoese again for good measure. Then they entered the communications bunker, shooting Kalishnikovs in front of them at any dark figures that loomed in the distance. Then they got to the facility, made dark by the EMPs. In pitch black, they stayed at the door and shot machine guns inside, while some put the detonation packs on the ground. Then, they ran out. But what if the Sinoese had found the TNT? Their mission would be worthless. They had the wire; and engineer pulled it out, and was shot. Another one took the wire, again getting shot. Machine gun fire was all over. Abdulla looked on from a Sinoese foxhole. He saw the machine guns and the detonater outlined in the moonlight. If he got out, he would be shot. If not, their mission would be all for nothing. He looked, thought of his family. Then he thought of what he would tell them if he abandoned his mission.

He jumped up, rolled over, feeling machine gun bullets hitting his body. He grabbed the detonation pack. A machine gun bullet hit him in the back. He pressed the detonator. Nothing happened for a moment. Machine gun bullets seemed to slow down. Abdulla's life began flashing through his head. His birth in a small, Malaysian village. Going to school for the first time. The day his father came home from war. His father had always told him that Bonstock was a great and powerful nation, and that it was the duty of everyone who lived there to defend her at all costs. Then he left, for another war, and never came back. He remembered the anger, the hatred towards anyone who opposed the Federal Republic. And he remembered, at that moment, he resolved to do his duty, and avenge the death of his father in battle. He remembered his service in the Bonstocknian army, the humiliation of the collapse of the Federal Republic, and how he, and nearly every other Bonstocknian, wanted back his place in the world, his empire, his peace, his prosperity. And, suddenly, it became clear to him. A low voice spoke to him, "You will survive. You will expell the foreigners. You, Abdulla, will remake the Federal Republic. Make it better then before. Respected. Peaceful. Democratic. All Bonstocknians will follow you, as once they did me." Abdulla, confident of his destiny, closed his eyes, as he heard a loud, violent explosion tear the communications facility apart. His mission was accomplished.

Later he woke up. He was in a bed, with a female nurse at his side, and bandages all over. "You took a bruising, there, Abdulla."

"Am I in heaven?" he asked. "Are you one of the virgins they promised?"

"No. This is a tunnel hospital. I'm only a nurse. You can't die yet. It's only midnight. Singapore is still in danger, and so is all of Bonstock."

"I know we will prevail. God is on our side."

"If God wills it, we will rise again. Now, you must rest." The nurse smiled at him. He smiled back, and closed his eyes. He slept like a baby to the constant sound of mortars and machine guns above.

Any messages from General Wu sent to the LRR government are regarded with suspicion and confusion.

After all, the army is in no position to support a proxy war against Sino. And with Sino not at all far away, giving Liu any reason more to hate LRR, with a military several times smaller than that of Sino and spread out across two continents, is not a good idea. The fact that LRR sits atop a fair stash of oil is another reason to be worried.

The memory of Mergui is still present as well, and the city is still full of rubble and wreckage. A member of the former Bonstockian military establishment asking for LRR aid might as well ask Sino for a few divisions of Type 98s.

A young boy ran into Abdulla's hospital. After giving a password, he was escorted by guards to the hospital bed.

"Sir, I have a message from General Wu," he said.

Abdulla slowly opened his eyes. "What is it, my boy?"

"General Wu asks you to offer to halt attacks in Indonesia so that LRR, Quintonia, Spyr, and Hudecia will help us."

Abdulla's eyes rolled into the back of his head. "What will bringing more foreigners do?"

"Wu is begging you, sir."

Abdulla sighed, and rested his head on his pillow. "War is hell. Get a video camera."

A guard brought in a video, and began recording Abdulla in his bed. "Good day, men of Quinntonia, Spyr, Hudecia, LRR, and others. I am Iban Abu Abdulla, son of the father of Abdulla, and my name is Abdulla. I am the one responsible for the recent attacks in Indonesia. However, I offer you a deal. I will tell my forces in your country to stop their attacks, if only you will do one thing for us. I need you to deploy troops to Singapore, to defend it against Sino and liberate Malaysia from Marimaia's annexation. I see you as the lesser of evils, and hope you will see me in such a light. If Sino and Marimaia expand unchecked, they will soon take over Indonesia, Northern China, even Russia and North America. We must unite and take a stand here. As a token of good faith, I will tell my troops to stand down right now. If you deploy troops, we will have them disband for good. If you refuse, the attacks will continue. I beg you to help us. We need you."

--------------------------------

Meanwhile, in Singapore, General Wu prepared his defense. 60 JAS 39s and 60 A-10s took off from a local airbase. They flew over the straits, strafing and bombing all Sinoese forces in the water. Six destroyers and fourty riverine patrol boats, the last of the Bonstocknian navy, took to the straits and began firing at Sinoese forces. 75 AH-64D Apache Longbows took off, and began attacking Sinoese tanks and boats in the water. Troops began to take up positions in bunkers on the shore, and fired wildly at Sinoese forces with Javelin missiles, machine guns, and howitzers.

The NeoSuunists quickly responded to the terrorist message.

"You all know me; I am Chiisu Suun. You have all dealt with me and my government in some form or another; most of those dealings have been extremely positive. I am here to address certain claims made by the terrorist calling himself Iban Abu Abdulla.

He claims that Marimaia and Sino are bent on joint world domination. Any student of world politics would see the major flaw in that logic. Marimaia and Sino are currently in a relations thaw, but with all due respect to our Sinoese neighbors, the idea of our two nations sharing anything is laughable. I am sure that General Liu would agree with me on that point. Besides, the Marimaian armed forces are just about maintaining their current deployments as it is; we would ruin our nation by going into any more conflict.

As for his claims that Marimaia seeks to annex Malaysia, surely we would have done it by now. In order to prove our genuine intentions, I have consulted with Prince Jamil, and we both wish to invite observers from other nations into Malaysia to witness what is going on. We also invite troops from other forces to enter Malaysia to assist with the rebuilding; if we do plan to annex the state, then we will have tremendous difficulty doing so with other nations present.

Iban Abu Abdulla is by no means the lesser of any evils. He and his people have carried out attacks on innocent civilians; he represents those who would see the return of the Federal Republic of Bonstock. A regime which slaughtered innocent civilians and lay waste to any nation they turned their gaze on. All of our nations paid heavily to smash Bonstock; I implore you not to support its return.

We have testimony from a captured operative of his; the operative was detained at Kuala Lumpur Airport. This operative admitted that he was under orders to assassinate me. This organisation cared nothing for the chaos which could have followed; they would have welcomed the retaliatory strikes which Marimaia would have performed, as they would then claim that we were attacking innocents. We shall make this testimony available to all nations; we videotaped the interrogation, so you can see for yourselves what happened."

Igovian ambassadors to Marimaia and Sino have lately returned to a more hard-line stance against the Bonstockians after Beddgelen involvement had waned. Portmeirion is urging resolve in the face of resistance and insisting that the Empire's roots must not be left in the ground lest the weed regrow to once again consume South East Asia.

The ISCBG believes that under siege and unable to support itself, Singapore should be subjected to a propaganda assault, after all, it is true that the authorities can not supply the people with what they need, can not even feed them, and can not protect them.

To that end, the 1st Battle Flotilla is redeploying along with elements of the 100th Assault Flotilla towards Sumatra. Bonstockian shipping shall not be allowed to pass to or from Singapore. The Igovian Soviet Navy does not intend to interfere with shipping not suspected of attempting to supply or escape Singapore.

The Marimaians are greatly appreciative of Igovian support, and begin utilising psychological warfare. Television and radio frequencies in Singapore begin to be hijacked by specialists operating in northern Malaysia; the new broadcasts ask the Singaporeans if they are truly willing to lay down their lives for the return of a regime which abused its population to the extent that it was overthrown by the people. The broadcasts play messages from those in liberated areas of the former republic, speaking of how great it is to be rid of Bonstock and to be allowed their own lives again.

The Marimaian broadcasts state that Singapore would be policed by an international force if they surrender before Sinoese troops overrun the city; however, it is stressed that Sino will eventually conquer Singapore otherwise, making it a part of China.

Secret IC:

The Marimaian consulate in Sino assures General Liu that Marimaia will not interfere if Sino conquers Singapore; the broadcasts are playing on the scaremongering being carried out by the Singaporeans themselves.

While it is clear that the Singapore authorities will get no aid from LRR by now, it does concern the governement that Sino is doing much more harm than good in this invasion.

While Sino might be trying to 'unite' the Chinese, it is an open question as to weather those Chinese want to be 'united' under the military rule of General Liu. While it is expected that Sino will dismiss any LRR pleas as 'hippie nonsense' and generally not take anything said seriously, messages are still sent to the Sinoese Junta asking for restraint and asking Liu to provide for the departure of Sino military forces in the near future.

A large crowd gathers in Kuala Lumpur. In a park directly under the Petronas towers, they gathered, hearing that something big was happening. They did not bring Kalashinikovs or Molotov cocktails, as that was not what their aim was. They had come to hear a man speak, about a vital subject.

A man came to the podium, backdroped by the mighty twin towers. "People of Malaysia, it is an honor to introduce to you our leader, Iban Abu Abdulla."

The crowd cheered as the bearded man walked up to the podium. He was dressed in a western suit, perhaps to satisfy the non Malays in the crowd, and walked with great assurance, waving at the crowd. He climbed up to the podium. Without a teleprompter to guide him, he shuffled some papers, and started speaking with a clear, strong, powerful voice.

"My good friends, Selamat tengahari, Ni Hao, Hello. I am Iban Abu Abdulla." The crowd began cheering.

"My friends, our great nation is in dire straits. Our country is split up and occupied by foreign powers. Our economy is in shambles, our political identity is broken. There is only one thing to do. We must win it back. We must take our country back from the foreign imperialists." The crowd cheered again, as Abdulla waved his fist.

"But, I say, we must win ourselves back in a way that brings us legitimacy. We can win ourselves back by force, but it is not in our interest to cause bloodshed. We will do that as a last resort. Instead, we will win our country back by means of the ballot box. We will show them that Malaysians, Indonesian, and Singaporians want them out. I announce this day, that I, Iban Abu Abdulla, am running for President of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore!" The crowd again cheered, wildly, as Abdulla waved.

"If I am elected, I will reunite the Great Federal Republic, make it more prosperous and powerful then even Lord Harald could have imagined, and make it democratic, and respected in the world! And, most importantly, I will send the foreigners home!" Again, more cheering.

"I promise a stronger union, for all Indonesians, Malaysians, and Singaporians. We will not have any one ethnicity controlling the others. It will be the union of all, and out of all, we shall form one. My friends, it is possible. It is inevitable. The mere thought of having such providers and protectors leave them worried many in the Christian and Buddhist communities and these two groups were expected to be the most active in pro-LRR and pro-Hudecia demonstrations. Some even threatening (mostly jokingly for now) that should Hudecian or LRR troops attempt to leave they would form human barricades to prevent them from doing so.

In the Muslim community, which had been edging closer and closer to good relations with the Christian and other communities, there was some concern that should the foreign troops leave so would the prosperity which was so unknown to these islands.

In a way, these islands saw the arrival of the foreign troops come coincide with the arrival of prosperity and in the minds of many, the two were inseperable.

The Commonwealth Final Senate, Portmeirion

The hall had been filled for hours with the boisterous debating of Beddgelens at odds over their race’s traditional pass time.

“War? We’re not all Celts!”
“Says naked you with the giant moustache!”
“Aye, forget that, the real point is that somebody has to put a ruddy stop to all of this nonsense, and we can’t have the Strait in reactionary hands, so there’s no other option!”
“All right, all right, comrades! A little order, please!” Cried the Chief Consul, “The matter at hand is all but decided! We may not like the prospect of getting thousands of people killed, but we Igovians all understand evolutionary politics and when war is and is not required... we... order! It is clear that the long-term results of inaction will necessitate war at a later date and against an enemy more able to spread terror than is already the case. Quorum is evident on the floor! Comrade General Paatelainen, the Commonwealth Final Senate requires that you order the 1st and 100th Flotillas into action.”

Not very much later, off the north-western tip of Sumatra, the Soviet People’s Navy’s 1st Battle Flotilla and 100th Assault Flotilla began to form up for transit down the Strait towards Singapore. High above, PKC satellites gazed down on the battle already raging. One intelligence officer in the fleet remarked that the scene resembled a beehive under attack by, “you know, those big bastard wasps... and that’s what we’re stepping into the middle of?” Other sailors and marines bellowed with much more enthusiasm, some coming up on deck in various states of undress to celebrate as the ships accelerated away from temporary anchorage. Klaxons sounded as if Celtic warhorns, for, in Beddgelert, that was what they were made to simulate, the terrible, eerie sound carrying for miles.

As some satellites picked out targets and tried to get a handle on the disposition of enemy and Sinoese forces, others relayed communiqués from Portmeirion to the Sinoese military leadership. The Soviet People’s Navy was joining the assault on Singapore from sea and air and into the streets if necessary. The ISCBG declared that, “South East Asia was in desperate need of reform, and this could not happen with Bonstockian corruption at the core.” Little was said about suspected Xiannese assistance being shipped in to the enemies as missiles and torpedoes were loaded.

Thirty Batch 3 Gauntlet Class fleet defence frigates screened the Igovian task force with their multi-tiered array of weapons systems, although their physical shield had to play second fiddle in the narrow waters. Some two hundred combat jets travelled with the force, which also brought almost seven thousand Igovian Marines aboard its carriers and assault ships.

The force idled down the straits in not great rush. Still several hundred kilometres away from Singapore, it was important that the Sionese and Marimaians knew that the Beddgelens were coming and that they were prepared to launch cruise missile strikes and super-sonic Charioteer anti-ship missile strikes against Bonstockian targets in the western approaches. The first arrivals would be MaL Morrigan long-range UAVs scouting from the four fleet carriers, the first merely reconnaissance drones, several behind them mounting emitter location systems and Apti Parliament-C* anti-radar missiles to sound the first Igovian shots.

*A 35km-range, 1,250kph missile able to remember location of a radar target even if said is switched off on detecting the threat. Information on Beddgelen armaments is available in the factbook, linked in my signature (I know that it is probable that nobody really cares, but I prefer to provide information just in case).

OOC: I just want two things explained to me, if you would. The people brought down the Federal Republic, right...yet now they want it back? Also, the Malaysians were killing each other over ethnic differences...but suddenly Abdulla pops up, and they love each other again? I'm not accusing anyone of anything, I just like the way that the Malaysians are genocidal one minute and peacefully integrated the next, depending on Bonstock's requirements at the time. BTW, LRR, Hudecia, good luck with the referendum.

Just one other thing before I post IC; with the chaos going on thanks to the Malay-Chinese hatred and the terror attacks RPed by Bonstock, Malaysia's in no state to hold elections. No-one would go to the polls knowing that they could either be attacked by someone else in line or bombed.

IC:

With the public appearance of Abdulla, Marimaian intelligence are able to start tracking his movements; locals who are in favour of the Marimaian presence tipped off the stabilising forces as soon as they heard of the rally (OOC: because, like it or not, something like that would be noticed by the Marimaians; the rumours of it taking place would also spread like wildfire).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Taishita, Marimaia

"He dares to appear in public after the massacres he has ordered?!"

Premier Supachai grimaced as Sakda reported the rally; her patience had long since expired with the situation.

"You're telling me that he's commiting mass murder against the Malaysians, and they love him for it?"

Sakda shrugged. "Not all of them obviously. The vast majority seem to appreciate the assistance we've offered them; the economy's improving, jobs are continuing to blossom, and the Hasan Army is proving easier to train than we expected. Still...elections are a long way off yet. There's too much chaos at the moment."

Supachai shook her head. "It's time for this territorial pissing match to end. We're not leaving Malaysia until it's stable and secure; I will be damned if the Federal Republic is going to rise again! At present, there are only three nations who are prepared to cut the diseased heart out of the Bonstockian corpse; Sino, Beth Gellert, and ourselves. Spyr would assist, I am sure, except their homeland is too far away to make the massive commitment needed. North Yaman and Dra-pol are also too far away; therefore, it is up to us to ensure that the Shining Sphere of Revolutionary Co-Prosperity is not embarrassed by a bunch of thugs, murderers, degenerates and terrorists! Do I make myself clear? We will strike them down for His Excellency and for Marimaia; we will strike them down in the name of world security!"

Sakda nodded. "What are your orders?"

"Initiate Operation Extermination protocols. By any means necessary."

0600 Hours

Breakthroughs by three Sinoese Marine armor battalions had been made with successful landings at Woodlands New Town, near the Sungai Kadut Industrial Estate. The dawn of the new day opened up to the ferocious beach head.

Men came ashore alongside their beloved steel beasts. Many of whom, if the opportunity arises, removed their high visibility life jackets.

Malaysia

Operation Extermination protocols were initiated as soon as Sakda finished talking with Premier Supachai. The Marimaians had been receiving a large amount of information from the sections of the local populace who were fed up of the constant terror attacks and had no desire to see the Federal Republic resurrected; the memories of the oppression they had suffered under that regime still remained. The government had also made it clear that elections were to be held after the terror attacks ceased; they were not about to endanger the lives of their citizens by having them gather in public places for something which would draw terrorists like a magnet.

At midnight local time, Sukhothai special forces and Hasan Army personnel carried out a coordinated assault on all hideouts, ammo dumps, stockpiles and bases which Abdulla's men were known to either operate from or were potentially able to operate from. The personnel were equipped with the best hardware Marimaia had to offer, and had Hind gunship support for finishing any terror suspects who escaped the intial assaults (OOC: now these are highly surgical attacks, and the Marimaians have done their homework; I'm not saying that there are no civilian casualties, but there won't be many).

Most importantly, the Marimaians finally secured any remaining nuclear silos or facilities in Malaysia; all launch systems were disabled, and specialists began to be moved in to disable the nuclear weapons themselves. Any nuclear power plants in the state were put on maximum alert in case of terror attack; anti-air systems were in the final stages of being installed on such facilities in case of suicide air attack.

Surveillance of Abdulla was stepped up; the Marimaians knew that taking him out could spark problems, so they didn't want him out of the way just yet.

The Malaysian government also sent a request to the other allied nations for any footage or transmissions concerning the nuclear attacks on the Sakishimas; they intended to show the people exactly what the Federal Republic thought of its citizens - absolutely nothing.

-Central Sulawesi Island-

Although major city centres rejoiced at the prospect of having the foreign troops remain, in the central parts of the island remained having deeply seeded distrust and dislike for foreigners of any kind, especially the non-Muslim type.

The referendum would pit urban dwellers against the rural farmers, and for the most part, non-Muslim against Muslim.

What polling that could be done in advance of the initial vote, indicated a 60-40 split in the population.

With all hell seemingly braeking ooose in the northern part of the ex-Bonstockian territory, and the invasion of Singapore coming along nicely, Quinntonian troops were working furiously to prepare the islands that have already been captured for the remaining forces that were still on the way. This meant that while naval patrols were set up around said islands, the majority of the First Wave Fleet was being mustered and readied so that they could move to enforce naval superoority on the most heavil populated Indonesian island next.

OOC: Sounds good for you. Abdulla has committed terrorist acts against most, if not all of the involved nations; why would we allow a terrorist leader to resurrect a nation which is still seen as an aggressive rogue state? Probably with nuclear weapons from 'still undiscovered hidden stockpiles'?

Besides, you've pulled the old 'regime change' card so many times it's not even funny. How do we know that this wasn't just another one (on a larger scale, I'll grant you that)? The only reasons any allied nation in its right mind would allow such a Federation are:

if the alliance is allowed to regularly inspect Bonstock's weaponry;
if Bonstock agrees not have any power projection ability whatsoever;
and if we had an ironclad guarantee that Bonstock would never perform an aggressive campaign.

Something along the lines of the new Federation having a constitutional law forbidding Bonstocknian troops to leave Bonstock's borders (unless someone attacks Bonstock, obviously; but that means another nation attacking Bonstock, not Bonstocknian troops staging an attack as an excuse to go invading again). Oh, and you'd obviously be paying reparations; these constant regime changes have allowed Bonstock to escape paying them thus far.

As a nation, Bonstock has proven itself to be completely untrustworthy no matter who was in power; it has betrayed nations before under varying governments, so the amount of trust the new version would have, accounting for the terrorist leader in charge, is oh, say, nil.

Well, that's my take on the situation anyway.

30-11-2004, 14:41
OOC: Yeah, I don't think that many Beddgelens see the Bonstockian Federation coming out of this alive. And it hardly makes sense that people from the different regions, liberated and often by their own will in no small part, and now backed by very different states and factions would all back the same leader. With increasing influence from the likes of LRR and Beth Gellert, both of which (if I understand LRR at all) practice much more advanced democracy than primitive Bonstockian and western party-based false democracy, it is increasingly likely that large factions voting differently only to have somebody else's choice of ruler thrust upon them will refuse to accept it. Plus, BG is not going to let the important Strait remain always on the brink of being closed to her or her allies and associates with its access to Korea, Lyong, and the Russian far east, even if we don't have flawless moral grounds for preventing it :)

As for Abdulla, I find it highly unlikely that the various ethnic and religious factions would allow themselves to be taken over after such aclose vote (54% - not even close to being unanimous) hence you would get several nations appearing after provinces seceed.

Hell, even if we slap Abdullah with a serious decrease in military force projection, no WMD, no navy(I believe this was Spyr's excellant idea) and some sort of repayment agreement, I assure you, as North Yaman is assuring everyone IC, that we will end up fighting a vast Bonstockian force trying to landgrab somewhere in the vast unclaimed parts MW.

This is all an aside from the obvious unrealism of a population resurrecting a regime like the Federal Republic. Perhaps you could have a poll to decide who should be elected in various regions(like Hudecia's last election), but I think it would lean hugely against Bonstock reformers.

[OOC: I agree with most of my peers on the matter of reviving the FRB. To do so under these circumstances is not particularly concievable in its own right, not to mention foreign opposition, of which Spyr would certainly be part.

However, that is not to say that unity does not exist across the former FRB. Like Indonesia, I would suspect that Bonstock was created in an effort led by a charismatic figure, much like Indonesia's Sukarno, who built it through negotiation, compromise, force, and fiat, and around whom a national myth was built that all children would be taught. Wether or not they believe it fanatically is questionable... as with most cultures, invented traditions are often not taken too seriously by the passive majority. In addition, a common language would b introduced for all through publc schooling.. in the FRB case, Bonstockian.

Culturally and religiously, the area the FRB encompassed is incredibly diverse in RL, and likely remains so in AMW, with the FRB likely having practiced a generally tolerant view against most groups. Ethnically, Malay and Javanese would have been the most numerous in government, and religiously mulims would have been most numerous, causing the government to favour their agenda over other groups... on the peripheries, groups such as the Timorese or tiny island ethnicities were likely kept in line forcefully, and there exists the possibility that, unlike Indonesia, Bonstock was less tolerant of Christians, Hindus, or island animists. Theres also the question of communists/socialists, who were fought and banned/jailed under Suharto, but nay not have been under the FRB.... and, of course, the Chinese... who I'm sure have suffered incrased non-institutionalized discrimination due to the China-Bonstock friction of recent years.

Rebuilding a state out of this mess is an effort that would take years of work, and would have the likelihood of never fully succeeding. Even dividing Bonstock along RL national lines is not an option, as Indonesia doesnt exist in AMW as anything but a geographic term for maritime southeast asia, and possibly a Bonstockian provincial division (though more likely these would encompass singular large islands, with an amalgam for the eastern islands and Papua). The ethnicities, quite simply, have very little in common, and it would take more than a simple referendum to determine their future course.

I think he should remember that we were just fine with Bonstock's diversity while Harald and co. were in power, ensuring central control through the bureaucracy, military and whatnot; now that the stabilising centre isn't there anymore, people are finding their own directions and old rivalries which were suppressed under the central government are now allowed to spring up.

If Marimaia ever gets in a situation similar to Bonstock's current one, there'll be no chance of it getting back together. You'd be seeing at least a dozen separate little states pop up. For now though, the people have food, economic stability, security and freedom in their private lives; although the government is officially atheist, if people choose to be religious then the government courts the religious authorities instead of smashing them.

People with full bellies do not make revolution; as much as I hate to quote Saddam Hussein, when his people had full bellies he didn't seem to have much trouble. After about two days' fast sail, the LRRN contingent arrives off of Singapore. On one of the LRRN's English-surplus Fearless LPDs, a contingent of about 600 marines prepares to be helicoptered ashore to aid with the assault, as harriers arm up to conduct airstrikes. With the majority of the LRRN's force-projection capability already comitted to operations on Sulawesi island or destroyed in the Bonstockian nuclear strike on Miyako Jima, 600 was about as much as could be carried.

Granted, I am kind of biased in this matter, but I don't buy that. The multiculturalism in Canada, and even in the US is far more coherant, most of the absolutely most patriotic people I know are those from Sierra leonne and India. Whenever Canadian solidarity has been tested, from the War of 1812 to the Riel Rebellion to the various Quebec crisises. The melting pot idea of the USA turns most immigrants into Americans, and every war movie feeds that. As for Canada, the policy of multiculturalism has produced a deep and abiding respect for their adopted nation. This would hold true even in places like Italy and Germany who were only united as nations in the last two hundred years, there may be regional and cultural differences, but when push comes to shove, Canadians and Americans love their countries.

You see, Bonstock won't allow us to win. Nothing we do will ever win the population over, and if we ultimately leave then he'll reunite his nation.

At this rate, we'll all have to nuke the entire area and repopulate it in order to finally win...but since hardly any of us are willing to do that, we'll just have to keep being blown up by the terrorists. If we arrest them, more will rise up until the entire population is committing terror acts; if we kill them, same end.

Which begs the question, once Singapore is fallen, and it will, even if one claims that it is the seat of that was the old FRB, eventually it will fall, Berlin did, Tokyo did, Paris did, like twelve times, the poeple got over it.

Like, say, Singapore is not taken by Sino, it becomes the base for a future Federal state with its support slowly growing and slowly expanding.

With all land links between Singapore and the rest of Asia being guarded to ensure that if he does start up again, then he's easily contained. Just in case Singapore becomes the terror capital of the world....

Or, General Wu and a few other higher-ups still in Singapore could get away with the help of a government somewhere else in the MW; I'm thinking along the lines of Peron and the Nazis (or something like that). Then Bonstock could have a fairly good nation, and we don't have to worry about perpetual war. Just because a government helped Wu escape doesn't mean that they have a desire for war against us, since said government has their own things to get on with.

Perhaps Argentina or Chile? Then Bonstock can have fun with the internal stuff and government intrigues and what not; we of course wouldn't know which nation took his lot in (in-game I mean). Plus, he's then got South America to intrigue in. I would of course put a condition on that; if his new nation did decide to go to war, it could only happen after we find some more players for South American nations.

As for Singapore, don't expect it to willingly join up with China. It was the capital of the Federal Republic, and the Chinese there had lots of power. Almost everyone there would want the Federal Republic back, and are willing to fight for freedom. The only real way of subjugating it would be to either destroy it with nukes or conquer it and then forcibly depopulate it, replacing its population with foreigners. Either way, the great democratic bloc that destroyed me would be after you, Sino.

Another option for the revival of the FRB is through the fact that, as new states are emerging, ethnic and religious tensions are coming to the fore. I coud see the evolution of an islamic-based state centred around Aceh and Sunda, perhaps expanding across larger parts of Sumatra.

As for Sino... I think he makes a few assumptions.

1) All Chinese love Sino.

2) All Chinese want to be part of Sino.

3) Al Chinese hate where they reside, if it isnt in Sino.

4) All Chinese are oppressed when they are not ruled by Sino.

Now, I dont hold any of these statements to be true... Bonstock's argument in this case is far more rational: the Chinese werent particularly oppressed, and had political power in the FRB.

It would seem to me that the Chinese in SE Asia have a tendency to be merchants, and good ones. Quite a few are wealthy (though not all).
There exists a native antipathy towards the Chinese, exacerbated by the perception that they're all rich, but Bonstock was a multicultural state which, for a long time, was relatively stable and likely using unity propaganda to paper over ethnic conflicts. Sino, in Bonstock, has been villified in propaganda for quite some time (probably starting with the Maropian Coast and its place in a Sinoese vision of a forcibly united China... thus, Sino is not an enemy being fought on foreign soil, but an invader waiting to strike. Sino's international actions povide ample fuel for anti-Sino propaganda in this regard), but the Chinese have not been racially condemned. In this environment, especially with substantial war production, Chinese with substantial capital likely wielded great direct and indirect power through control and investment in industry. It is actually likely that, now that the FRB no longer keeps stability and unity, the Chinese are subject to increasing discrimination by the new regional authorities, while economically the termination of wartime production and present relative instability (and labour law reform in Sujava) have cut their profits and economic power.

I would say that the Chinese in Singapore, of all Bonstockian ethnicities, would long most for the days of unity and economic prosperity through the FRB, and would not be willing to simply roll over and be annexed.... at the very least, they would seek an independant economic powerhouse in Singapore, and so annexation would be against their will. Not to mention the non-Chinese singaporeans who have even greater reason to fear Sino due to its unabashedly overt racism.

Ah what the hey, let Bonstock have Singapore. Malaysia would probably lose a number of ethnic Chinese citizens as they move to Singapore or Sino or wherever, and the economy may suffer as a result of them leaving (as some would probably be industrialists who profited under FRB rule), but that's the breaks.

As for Malaysia, I see the peninsula possibly stabilising as a state while Sabah and Sarawak break away; what would happen to them is up in the air, but if United Elias is definately joining with Brunei as a colony then he could move into them as a peacekeeping operation. Meanwhile, Tanah Melayu (the peninsula) tries to define itself as a democratic monarchy with most of its military in the south keeping an eye on Singapore.

Anyway, perhaps what I could do is RP Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia as separate countries. Eventually you stabilize them, and they become separate independant states.

When I collapsed the Federal Republic, I meant it to be more like the fall of the Soviet Union, breaking into separate countries with somewhat stable governments from the start. To my knowledge, no UN peacekeepers were deployed to Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, or any others after the Soviets fell. The insurgancy is only a fight against the foreigners, with some elements, like Abdulla and Wu, seeking a return to the Federal Republic, if only for their own agendas.

Lol, I have invaded practically everywhere in Asia. Japan, Taiwan, Yemen, Indonesia, the list goes on forever. At the start I was hoping to RP occupying a country, then gradually getting my invaders assimilated into it, similar to the way the Vikings invaded countries like England, France, and Russia, and over many years became simply a part of the cultures they conquered. Could I point out that the collapse of the Soviet Union was due to economic hardship as a result of soviet mismanagement and focus on the military. Now, perhaps this was similiar to the old Federal Republic, but the collapse of the USSR was not accompanied by Nuclear strikes and Russia, despite its militancy, did not invade a majority of regions in the Asian Pacific. This would be a major reason for the 'peace keepers' to be deployed.

A fall of Nazi Germany would probably be a better analogy, in that none of the nations that brought it down seem to wish its complete revival. Bonstock was strongly disliked, atleast in Lyong, for its history of Imperialism and war.

Also, the Vikings were merchant raiders and their 'invasions' were gradual, not sudden acts of open war. This is how assimilation with other cultures, such as the Gaidhlig culture in Scotland and Ireland, became possible.

Trimaran fleet-carrier CS Belinus, flagship 100th Battle Flotilla, the Strait of Malacca

Comrade Admiral Nicholas Edwards had commanded fighting forces before, seeing serious action off Madagascar, but steaming towards the heart of the infamous Bonstockian Empire with Sinoese crawling all over it seemed like an entirely different kettle of fish.

“Comrade Admiral.” Said the ship’s captain, drawing Edwards from private contemplation of the situation, “Portmeirion has authorised no such...”
“...Damn Portmeirion, comrade, this is the Navy!”

The young Admiral had just ordered the launch of landing craft from assault ships Nibiru and Igovia, and the six boats were cutting the waves with nine hundred People’s Navy Marines embarked, bound for Singapore’s south-west shores. In the skies above, MaL Morrigan UAVs continued to loiter, radar emission locator systems still alert for signs of danger.

Minutes earlier, the Igovian fleet had been signalling to shore, telling people and defenders that the Beddgelen force was arriving to provide security and to guarantee a democratic future for Singapore. This was said to depend upon reasonable consideration of their situation on the part of the Singaporean populace as Sinoese forces inched their way through the island’s territory. Transmissions relayed, as leaflets dropped by the big UAVs and soon by speakers aboard approaching boats and helicopters, tried to give the impression that the Russians were marching into Berlin from one side, and that now the west was arriving at the eleventh hour from another. Surely the people of Singapore understood what they must now do: co-operate with the democratic latter or submit to the bloodthirsty former.

The half dozen landing craft drew into view of the shore, their crews swallowing hard as they manned machineguns, SAMs, and ATGWs they hoped not to be called on to use while their crowded troop decks washed with the sound of comrades nervously humming and singing the Beddgelen Internationale.

Oh, for my Red Dragons thought Admiral Edwards, gritting his teeth as he looked from the bridge towards the departing eight amphibious combat vehicles he’d just dispatched behind the landing craft, wishing that his erkranoplan proposal were not still jammed in the Igovian bureaucracy.

On the heels of the Beth Gellert task group, the small LRRN force has been dispatched to aid their Celtic Neighbors, although the government would very much like to see a resolution to the Bonstockian conflict. However, the massacre at Mergui is still fresh in the memory of many LRRMFs officers, andtherefore the desire to punish Bonstock is very present. Of course, this will not be done by killing civilians, on purpose or by accident. Therefore, the wing of Sea Harriers and helicopters brought by the Viraat will only be used to attack military positions outside the urban areas.

Hudecian elections are completed on the island of Borneo.

Bambang Sudibyo, a Christian moderate was declared the winner of the presidential elections, winning 54% of the vote. Having obtained more than 50% in the first round negates the requirement for another vote.

The parliament however was dominated by Muslims with over 46 of the 70 elected members of parliament being islamic in faith.

Also, the people voted 73% - 27% in favour of maintaining the Hudecian military presence. The high percentage in favour of the Hudecian presence is attributed mainly to the rapid reconstruction aid given out and the relative calm on the island. It is expected that as time goes on, the populace will be less and less tolerant to their Hudecian benefactors.

On Sulawesi, where much more time has passed, the election was a squeeker by any standards. With 99% of the polls reporting, the people endorsed the continuation of the Hudecian/LRR presence by a mere 7%. 53.5% of voters supported the continued presence, while 46.5% wanted an immediate withdrawal.

In the first aggressive movement by Hudecian fighters, a group of 12 F-22s came within 100km of the city before turning back to Borneo. Their primary mission was to scout out the location of troops, ships and other anti-air devices that were on their path.

Hudecia also confirmed publicly that there was at least 6 H-2s on the island of Borneo, fully armed and ready of potential strikes against targets both at sea and on land.

With some semblence of a Hudecian naval fleet being restored, 3 Uslan class frigates, 2 Alberta* class destroyers and a Wasp class attack carrier deployed for Indonesia.

OCC: I think you'd better do it. I don't really know the ethnic and religious makeup of the island.

The close vote towards the continuation of the LRR/Hudecian presence on Sulawesi causes concern in the government. As a result, several frigates and one of the Rajput class destroyers are withdrawn in order to be less imposing.

Training is begun of a native Sulawesi military force, equipped mostly with LRR surplus equimpent like older BMP-1s and some of the BMP-2s, which are due to be replaced by the APC-3 carrier, based loosely on the Alvis/Hagglunds SEP demonstrator.

The Singaporian government agrees to recognize Sujavan, Malaysian, and other state's sovreignty, formally dissolving the Federal Republic. Singapore is, technically, granted independance as well, becoming the Republic of Singapore, instead of the Federal Republic of Bonstock. A request goes out to form a "Bonstocknian Union" existing only as a free trade zone and mutual defense pact, though such would only exist with permission of the other powers and Singapore would have no new power.

FRB soldiers in Indonesia and Malaysia turn themselves in, and ask for a plane ride to either Singapore or wherever their home is, many of them asking to go to Java or Malaysia. Insurgant activity tapers off, and becomes a non-factor.

Meanwhile, General Wu continues resisting all enemy troops. A general marshalling of Singaporian men starts, with thousands grabbing arms and marching off to battle. Most have no training, and marginal equipment at best, but want a taste of freedom and stability, and are willing to die defending it and their families. Their only weapons are their rifles and their infinate detirmination to defend all they hold dear.

Hudecian military officials are elated by Wu's agreement and promise to help facilitate the movement of former soldier back home.

At the same time, a native Bornean army begins to take form under the guidance of the Hudecian advisors. It is hoped that with time the army will be fully self-sufficient and governed. Older HF-18s are loaded onto ships for transport to the island to begin proper aviation training. As well, some Bradley IFVs are being shipped to provide the backbone for an armoured division.

-Sulawesi-

Hudecian advisors offer to help build a native air force and request that 3 HF-18s be sent from Hudecia to begin the training process.

The presidential elections went to a Muslim by the name of Mohammed Kalla who promised to respect religious freedoms and improve governance by gently nudging Muslims away from extremism.

Similarly, the parliament is almost completely dominated by Muslims. 39 of 45 seats are held by Indonesians of the islamic faith. Officially, there are no parties (like the LRR system) and members are urged to vote 'according to their conscience'.

The half dozen Beddgelen landing craft moving on the south-western shores of Singapore continued under broadcasts from the fleet asking the defenders to co-operate with the very small and relatively unthreatening force as it sought to ensure democracy on the island in the face of on-going assault by the authoritarian Sinoese.

Closing on the shore with no response, the crews of the little vessels couldn't help but fear the worst, but began to flash signal lights expressing their peaceful intent. In the event that they drew fire, the signals would continue as passive counter-measures deployed and evasive action was taken. The boats would signal their desire for dialogue with local defenders.

Were firing to continue, the vessels would respond eventually by attempting to lay down smoke on to the beach from light mortars, at which point they would come about and withdraw towards the motherships. Only if pursued by hostile forces would they use ATGWs, mortars, heavy-machineguns and the like in an attempt to cause actual casualties.

This was just attempt one, and the Admiral hoped that it would get men ashore without the need to reduce defences by force. There was no way that Edwards was prepared to let the Sinoese annex Singapore and threaten the vital straits.

In Sujava, long awaited elections begin as FRB-related terrorism comes to a halt.

The Strainist Party, united with the democratic socialists and labour movements and using leverage from its provisional leadership and reconstruction efforts, as well as numerous reform efforts now bearing fruit, manages to secure a substanial minority of the 400-member National People's Assembly, allowing it to maintain its provisional cabinet in position. The NPA-chosen Premier, Muchtar Pakpahan of the PSD, was quick to title Sujava's
first election as 'the beginning of a new age of consensus and cooperation, uniting us across boundaries of religion and culture, in a common quest for justice and prosperity."

The remaining membership of the NPA is divided between a vast array of parties, key amongst which are the National Mandate and National Awakening Parties, both nationalistic but relatively moderate islamic-based organizations who are bound to play a key role in shaping the direcion in which the government can take the nation.

One of the great surprises of the election, however, was the number of votes, if not seats, that went to the FRP, a party advocating a return to the glory days of Bonstock. While popular sentiment has not gone that far, recent events unfolding in Singapore have raised public sympathies for the ex-FRB capital... if they have achieved national identity through freedom from an imperialist structure, then surely they cannot sit back and allow imperialism to occur so close to home?

This sentiment is particularly strong amongst the Sujavan defence forces, made up almost entirely of Javanese soldiers who once served in the FRB.
