The appearance in Bonstockian waters of a Beth Gellert-built Hound Class diesel-electric submarine bearing on its tower the Drapoel wheel of life and progress was a pretty well unprecedented event, but here she was. The eleven-hundred ton boat's primary cargo was one comrade Consul Yónglan, a representative of the Central Directorature.

International diplomacy was to the Drapoel something of a lost art in the early stages of its rediscovery, something illustrated in the unannounced nature of Yónglan's arrival and the lifting of his newly created title directly from the Beth Gellen service through which submarines such as this one were acquired. The boat's captain assumed that surfacing and raising the Republic's colours would be enough to display his peaceable intent, for he would have remained submerged and under battery power were he planning hostilities, of course.

Da'Khiem wanted Yónglan to represent the CPRD in face to face discussion with Bonstock, and didn't much care to have anybody else know about it.

A Bonstocknian Coast Guard cutter, seeing the sub, made a dash from a shore base. A loudspeaker said, "This is the Federal Republic Coast Guard. Please declare your nationality, tonnage, cargo, and destination, and submit to a Coast Guard inspection. This will not take long, and afterwards you will be free to pass."

A letter arrives on the Bonstock Ambassador to Chuang-Han's desk. It reads:

A SUMMONS

His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of the Chuang and Protector of the Han, has filed a lawsuit against the Bonstocknian Government for the tariff being placed on Cargo Ships passing through Malacca.

If the Bonstocknian Government fails to send a representative to appear at the Imperial Court of Nanning on October 20th, the Bonstocknian Government will forfeit the law suit and owe the Chuang-Han Government $400,000,000.

We are fully aware that Imperial Court of Chuang-Han has no ability to force a sovereign state beyond it's borders to comply with the Chuang Laws. But, in his Majesty's own words, "This is a matter of principle... and money! We can't afford that Tarrif!"

Another letter is recieved, but it is from the Chuang Ambassador to Bonstock to the Bonstock Foreign Minister.

The Government of Chuang-Han will seize all international assets of Bonstock within it's borders (Including, but not limited to: Civilian Ship, Airliners, Bonstocknian National's property, Bonstocknian based corporation's property) if Bonstock does not agree to lift this unlawful Tariff for Chuang-Han Cargo. Seizure proceedings will be carried out immediately upon reply from Bonstock.

Good day.

A letter is sent back to Chuang Han:

We apologize that your sailors are inconvienenced by these tariffs. However, we remind you that as a sovreign nation, it is our right to charge people who pass through our territory. We will not accept any such lawsuits, as it will be before a biased judge and should best be heard by a global court.

If any property of Bonstock or its citizens is siezed by the Chuang Han government, it will lead to a ceasation of diplomatic relations and a ban on Chuang Han ships passing through Bonstocknian territorial waters.

Sincerely,

Since our trade is largely dependent on free passage of ships through this area, we will equally refuse to recognise this fee or to pay it. Attempting to force vessles of ours to pay such a tariff will result an a continued refusal, and any action taken against our merchant vessels will be a grave incident indeed. We hope it does not become necessary to escort all of our merchant vessels with warships.

Consul Yónglan, the message read, wished to come ashore to discuss with the proper authorities some matters of international significance.

With the Hudecian government threatening 'dire consequences' should Bonstock not immediately repeal the transport taxes, a group of Hudecian warships began readying themselves to set sail.

In Okinawa and Ulsan similar orders had been received by the Hudecian fleet at those locations. The vessels began to prepare themselves to move, although for now it was not disclosed what Hudecia might be prepared to do.

The Hudecian 1st Armies I, II, III and IV Corps Marine divisions were all called up and mobilized near Vancouver.

The Bonstockian threat of sinking Hudecian vessels was met by Hudecian press as 'outright provocation' and 'saber-rattling' by the Bonstockian leadership.

Not that the press or the populace needed any more reason to be upset at Bonstock. Their actions at Mergui had been enough.

Given that Iuthian ships will not be required to enter this part of the world we find that these laws will not affect us economically and as such we see little reason to argue otherwise.

However, concidering that the nations around you, as well as your own nation will no doubt need these routes for trade we feel we should warn you that such actions will undoubtably raise the price of goods going to your nation as other companies have to pay your tax or change their route at additonal cost which they will pass down to the buyer.

This in turn will probably result in damaged relations with nations affected, possibly with depands of compensation or loss of relations with those nations entirely. It will also affect your own economy as you're prices will be raised assuming nations trading with your nation were not already paying these taxes.

What ever the case we hope you know what you are doing... such reckless laws will inevitably result in increased costs; either through increased coast guard presence or price increases. With any luck your tax can make up for these costs... but the diplomatic cost could be dire.

IC:

Orders are sent out...

All ships carrying Chuang Cargo are to unload the Chuang Cargo at the Marimaian port of Phuket, the Chuang-Han Government will secure passage for it via rail through our southern neighbor. The Chuang cargo ships then will pass through Malacca, and not pay Bonstock one dirty cent, as they will have no Cargo to pay the taxes on.

Chuang trade with Bonstock is to cease immediately, and Bonstock Corporations with branches in Chuang-Han (we have a fully open market, so I imagine Bonstock would have several companies taking advantage) are not to be dealt with. Anyone who deals with Bonstock will be charged with being a traitor and arrested.

Meanwhile a personal letter from the Emperor to Bonstock's President (Or whatever his title is) is sent.

You forfeit the lawsuit and owe me $400,000,000. But I wont hold you to it...

I will make only one argument with you; this tax will cost Chuang-Han millions, if not billions. You see, the 1% payment you are demanding causes our shipping costs to rise sharply. To keep even, the Cargo amount would have to be increased in each load. But, we still would be paying the 1%, causing us to load more and more Cargo to stay above water, but always failing since we will have to pay the 1% on whatever amount of Cargo we have going through Malacca.

This would not be a problem for a nation like Sino. However, Chuang-Han isn't Sino, and we must import nearly every raw material from Africa or the Middle East, through Malacca. This ultimately means that Bonstock will ruin us. Trade deficit will continue to rise until the Chuang economy cracks under the pressure. Either we pay the Tax and are ruined, or go through great lengths to find another shipping route and pay more anyway. Either way we're ruined in the long run. I appeal to your humanity to not levy this fine upon Chuang Cargo.

Consul Yónglan was inwardly surprised to be introduced directly to Harald Gustavsson, especially since the purported leader professed ignorance of his guest's identity. He almost wanted to introduce himself as an assassin with the Red Bamboo, and repressed a smile as he thought of faking a flourish of Mooyae strikes. Of course, being a consul on a diplomatic visit, he introduced himself as such, and then went on to explain what he'd been sent to express.

"The Choson People's Republic recognises the desire of a nation to police its own vicinity as it will, but the recent charge on transit of goods through the Straits presents problems that may not have been considered. Evolved states such as our own have little use for currency, and as such do not tend to ascribe dollar values to our products and imports, nor do we possess disposable capital with which to pay your fees.

"You will be aware that very few Drapoel vessels pass west of Peninsular Malaysia, and as such your nation stands to gain very little from taxing such traffic... we have little business west of Marimaia. However, it remains a problem for us to accept this tax in what cases are of relevance. In the opinion of the most wise Director comrade Secretary Hotan, your nation does not so much participate in or contribute to the life and commerce of the People's Republic as get in the way of it. For this service the Republic is not much inclined to pay."

Yónglang remained almost expressionless in posture and visage throughout his speech, and continued in a well practiced even tone.

"It almost appears as if the Republic ought to view this action as one of an enemy, but the reaction of our true enemies causes much interest. It appears that they will be inclined to dislodge on your account military forces traditionally involved in meddling with Korean affairs. It appears that our nations have some connection at least, in being each treated as apart from the international mainstream and seen as deserving of aggression.

"Perhaps we can then be of assisstance to one another. Your nation would surely prefer to see its opponents distracted and split when negotiating on the future of your taxation of the Straits, much as our nation would like to continue its extremely light and unhassled use of said waterways.

"That is to say, perhaps the regimes wishing to negotiate with your nation while sitting assuredly behind battle fleets would feel less arrogant were their forces required elsewhere, making you more able to dictate terms without the irritation of enemy self-confidence. Perhaps a requirement for their forces to return to Korean stations would be worth the waiving of fees for one extremely light user of your sealanes?"

IC- Quinntonian Dra-pol reminds all the nations involved, that while it holds naval and strategic rights to the Panama Canal, Panama gets the ecenomic benefit to that canal. However, militarilly, we have and will continue to contorl that vital strategic area.
Quinntonian Dra-pol also asks Chuang-Han China if they need to renegotiate their economic interests in this matter, if so, Quinntonia would be more than happy to trade with them using the Pacific routes and will also gear up to honor existing material contracts, and can begin shipping manufacturing goods immediately.
This offer of course goes for any and all of the parties involved, and the outragoues tarrif will not be charged for using their shipping lanes, but a small fee is charged for using the Panama Canal, though I will keep it the same as RL, and the impoverished nation Panama will get all the funding.
WE recognise in spirit the right for any nation to protect their soveriehnty, though the Quinntonian government urges their friends, the Bonstockians to reconsider now that they know the strife that will be caused in this very volatile region as well as the very human cost.

Kangtian shook his head. "If you mean the NeoSuunist Canal, it would never be ready in time. Current projections show at least five years before project completion. This crisis should be over by then."

"No, I meant an opportunity to embarrass those pigs south of the border. Peninsular Malaysia would look good flying the Marimaian flag."

Kangtian frowned. "You find the money and the troops and the equipment, by all means go for it. The last thing we need is another war. Sure, we'd get some decent Bonstockian slave labour but that's not enough to justify the cost. Before you say it, the offshore oil fields would be handy but holding them would be a nightmare."

While the export economy of the PRS is primarily focussed on markets touching the Pacific, Middle Eastern and Indian trade forms a not-insubstantial percentage. Thus, news of a tariff by Bonstock is looked at with great concern... especially as, since as a general rule Spyran shipping avoids coming so close to Bonstockian shores, those routes which pass through Malacca do so because other paths arent cost-effective.

Spyran officials contact their Hudecian and Marimaian counterparts, suggesting that a combined response, military or otherwise, might force Bonstock to reconsider... no vessels should have to pay tariffs to the butchers of Mergui.

Hudecian military attaches were already dispatched to the Spyran and Marimaian commands declaring their support for the Spyran initiative. In the Hudecian viewpoint, Bonstock was too powerful for any one of the three to take on alone. However, should they combine and strike at Bonstock at various locations, success could be acheived.

Hudecian military forces were already preparing for a possible strike at some of Bonstock's outlying defensive locations (OOC: Does Bonstock still hold the Sakishimas?), and Sino was blockading the Maropian Coast. With Marimaian forces preparing for a possible conflict there as well, Bonstock would be sufficiently distracted.

IC (if it is indded open) : The Crookfur Association of Shipping has been a bit more pragmatic in it's response to the tolls than other nations. "Of course, ue-sama."
"Well then, is there any other foolishness to demand our attention today?"
"If I may speak, ue-sama..."
"Of course Takano-san; what would these meetings be without the customary machinations of our foreign neighbours."
"It appears that the nation of bonstock has decided to impose a trariff upon shipping transitting the Malacca Straits; naturally this represents a grave concern for us given our dependence on overseas trade."
"With respect ue-sama, trade is the least of the matter- this is clearly an insulting demand intended to humiliate our nation and others for the simple gratification of a corrupt regime. The Teike must not sumbit to this violation..."
"Nor will it. Foreign minister, what has been the response of others to this ransom demand?"
"Mostly hostile ue-sama; several nations have actively protested and there are hints of possible military confrontation."
"Which would be no bad thing for us...what is your opinion on military action Souma-san?"
"Logistics, as ever, represent a problem my lord; expansion of the navy proceeds as this council meets yet at present it would be difficult to transport sufficient forces to ensure success, once ashore of course, it would be a different matter..."
"Then we shall require more subtle measures, but in the meantime it would not be amiss to ready ourselves in case a conflict does break out. Souma-san will supervise the preparations, and the rest of you will naturally extend any assistance that may be required."
At an imperceptible nod from the Shogun, the secretary rose. "With your permission ue-sama, I humbly call to a close this session of the council..."

As the first fleet departed Hudecian territory loaded with the 20 000 troops, preparations for further deployments were made. However, lack of transport capacity would delay any large movements for the time being.

Hudecian air lift capacity was also being prepared and expanded, an indication that Hudecia may be looking at deploying troops without their heavy equipment if necessary.

The PRS military command had some concern over the situation... it had become apparent that most of its potential allies in any conflict with the Bonstockian imperialists would have difficulty bringing substantial land forces to bear. Spyr, too, had difficulties, as it was currently supporting deployments in Myanmar and regional security operations. However, the Spyran navy was not currently involved in active sea conflict... at the very least, it was hoped that combined naval power might break the Bonstockian fleet and force it to settle on allied terms. And, if security in Rangoon could be restored, then the army division there could be redeployed into Bonstock-related operations.

Spyran naval vessels began to assemble into battlegroups, patrolling the Sea of Japan.

Secret IC To Bonstock: We are sending plans of the AT-01A, AT-01B, AT-01C and AT-02 mechs to you. Use them wisley. Engeneers will currently be working on the AT-03 Underwater mech, and we expect that with only a few modifications to the basic design, we will have it within the following week. We would also like to remind you that you have those bigass floating bases that you should use (search for posts from me to find it, it's not buried for me because I don't post too much). Also, Since we have none of this "real world root" base, and would still like to help you, monetary, equipment or (and if you persons who are invading him let me) troop aid would be sent to Bonstock.

The government of LRR, currently flaming mad over horrible human rights abuses comitted by Bonstock in Myanmar, will provide its moral backing at least to any effort to invade Bonstock, since it definately deserves it.

Unable to sustain much of an overseas presence with a small long-range surface fleet, the LRRMFs would, in the event of such a conflict, be unable to provide much support, but if someone else were to provide the logistics...

The government of Bonstock is also reminded that (OCC: I'm sort of going out on a limb here...I think the Strait of Malacca is wider than 40km but I'm not totally sure, so if I get it wrong please don't yell) the Strait of Malacca is not totally within Bonstockian territorial waters, and is therefore, at least concerning a channel several kilometers wide, international waters.

While Bonstock has a right to tax the hulls out from under ships in its own territorial waters, in international waters Bonstock has no such right, and any attempt to hinder shipping outside of the 20-km exclusion zone will not be viewed favorably.

However, while re-stating demands for Bonstockian leadership in Myanmar to immediately be turned over to warcrimes tribunals, the LRR government hopes a peaceful solution can be found at least for this particular offense.

After all, we could always just go around/embargo/blockade/totally destroy Bonstock if worst comes to worst...or something like that.

OOC: I know the legality is sketchy... international law has stipulations over the size of territorial waters and free passage through natural straits, on which I can claim little authority. However, this action by Bonstock is the 'straw that broke the camel's back', so to speak, coming after a long history of imperialism in Asia, and straight on the heels of a Bonstockian bombing attack that obliterated the town of Mergui in Mandalay and massacred its civilian populace. In most of the countries currently involved, both popular and government attitudes towards Bonstock tend to favour retaliatory action to remove an obvious threat to the peoples of the region.

Xiaguo is willing to purchase more oil from the Middle East to sell to other nations. With reserves of raw materials, we are willing to conduct trade with foreign countries. A Free Trade Initiative has been opened up with Chuang-Han for cheaper raw materials, and a temporary lift of Xiannese Trade Tariffs and Taxation.

Xiaguo also recomends ships to port at Thai Ports and ship the trade goods to the other side of the coast and repack them on the ship and set sail. Judging by Thai sources, it can take only 4 days more than the regular shipping route, however, can escape the huge Bonstockian Taxation.

OOC: The issue over the extent of Bonstockian sovereignty is actually rather more complex:

1. The extent of Bonstock's territorial waters depends on their nautical claims limit, but is also modified by the fact that they can also claim the status of an archipelagic state with a right to draw an external baseline around internal waters.
2. Whether the straits fall into Bonstock's territorial waters or not is largerly irrelevant, the law of the sea states very clearly that the vessels of all nations have the right of innocent passage through such areas; in addition straits are covered by additional stipulations recognising their importance for maritime trade, and as such the actual shipping lanes can be regarded as part of the high seas for purposes of navigation.

Conclusion: Bonstock can exercise their laws in the straights, and may even be able to levy a reasonable charge (the legal position is unclear); however the demand that all ships submit themselves for inspection contravenes the right of innocent passage and should thus be equated with state-sponsored piracy.

Harald's meeting with the Dra-pol representive

Harald spoke in response. "Sir, I see your request. However, we are starting ourselves to realize that our tariff policies may be poorly spent. Therefore, we are going to cancel the tariffs and inspections anyway. However, that is for merchant ships only. Military vessels must pay for passage, and certain nations may be subject to a ban. But Dra-pol ships will always be welcome in the Straits."

A man came in and whispered into Lord Harald's ear. Harald's face grew pale for a moment, and then he composed himself. "Sir, I apologize for the rather abrupt ending, but I have urgent business to attend to." He went over and shook the man's hand, and then turned to his aide. "Mr. Bergren, please be sure this man has a Gulfstream jet back to Dra-pol."

"Yes, sir."

Harald quickly exitted the room, and took the elevator down into a secret bunker. Bursting into the room, he quickly demanded, "What's the situation?"

And aide saluted, and said, "My lord, the Hudecians have just declared war upon us. The BSS has identified two carrier battlegroups and a mechanized infantry division near to the Sakishimas."

"What do we have?"

"While most of I Corps is in Maropian Coast, the 2nd Mechanized Division, along with the 15th and 46th Tactical Fighter Wings, are currently on Ishigaki island. Three carriers are nearby. We also have eight more fighter wings in Maropian Coast that we can count on, and the four divisions there."

"Supervise the movement of all forces in Maropian Coast defensive positions in the islands, and get three more carriers onsite. What forces do we have on Miyazaki?"

"The 3rd Brigade combat team of the 2nd Mechanized Division."

"Just that?"

"Yes. With an engineer brigade."

"Tell the engineers to get their rifles and machine guns out and dig into defensive positions. Tell them to plant mines and barbed wire, dig trenches, and build bunkers with whatever they have."

"Yes, sir."

"And get some land based bombers from here to go strike them with cruise missiles."

"Aye, sir."

"Excuse me one moment."

Lord Harald rushed upstairs. Just in time. Bergren was just escorting the Dra-pol agent out of the lobby.

"Mr. Yonglan!" Lord Harald called out. "Mr. Yonglan, I would like to ask a small favor of you. Please tell your government to start a war on the Korean penninsula. If you do, we will aid you with weapons, money, and even troops if you so need it. First of all, we can provide naval and air support for you, perhaps turn the technology balance in your favor. Ishigaki Air Base

The alarm started blaring. Pilots dropped their affairs, and quicky headed towards their planes. Twenty of them got into their JAS-39 Gripens, and started up the engines. All had an RBS-15 missile on the bottom of their plane, ready to fire at any Hudecian ships. It was quick and hasty, but it was all that was avaliable. None of the other planes were fueled or armed. That would take a while to perform, assuming the Hudecians didn't bomb the place first. More delays would result.

The planes got on the runway, and were briefed about their target: the Hudecian Kitty Hawk carrier. If it could be blown to bits, perhaps the war would end quickly. This would be difficult, though. With no less then 18 escorting surface ships, and plenty of interceptors, the attack may have been a risky proposition at best. Their only hope was that they could fire their missiles and get the hell out of the place before the Hudecians fired back.

Some of the planes got onto the runway. "You are cleared for take-off."

"Roger, preparing for take-off." The engines of the Gripens suddenly roared to life. They began to take off. All flew over the island, and over the ocean. They then dropped down low, nearly 50 feet off the ground, hoping that by some miracle of war, they wouldn't be seen before they fired their missiles.

The Hudecian air cover would not be incredibly effective this engagement but they were still a threat, as were the Hudecian surface vessels that were protecting the carrier.

The 20 Bonstockian fighters would slip into range almost undetected, however, to escape they would have to fight off almost the same number of Hudecian F-22s and escape the inevitable counter attack.

The missiles would wreck havoc in the small fleet, sinking a Halifax class frigate, damaging an AOR transport, and severly damaging the Kitty Hawk carrier.

In retaliation, Tomahawk missiles strikes would be aimed at the airbases on the islands and what surviving fighters there were in the air would follow the missile attacks with an attack of their own.

The real story however would occur on Miyako jima, where the plans for an invasion were stepped up due to the Bonstockian attack. Without a firm carrier base, a land base had to be secured if the invasion were to be successful.

So, the Fourth Corps began to prepare to land on the island within the hour. The reinforcement fleet would not arrive for another day or two, but hopefully when it did they would be able to give more air support.

All twenty of the ships fired their missiles, hoping to hit whatever they could hit. Meanwhile, airbases in Maropian Coast and the three aircraft carriers, Volvgrad, Adolphus, and Midlands began preparing their aircraft.

The JAS 39s turned around. Quickly, a radio message got to them.

"Flight 156, this is AWACS. We report hostile bandits in the air. I repeat, hostile bandits."

"Roger, confirming bandits. Requesting permission to engage."

"Roger permission granted."

The planes turned around. Quickly, one was shot out of the sky. The pilot was unable to eject. Still low to the ground, the planes shot off dozens of AA-10 missiles at the incoming F-22s, hoping for a hit. Then one more was hit in the wing, and the pilot ejected. With two aircraft down, and many being heavily damaged by explosions of missiles, the JAS-39s turned around.

Meanwhile, hundreds of miles away, in Eastern New Guinea, twenty B-1 bombers began taking off. The flew low, and supersonic, heading north. Finally, getting within 200 kilometers, each let loose 12 JSOW missiles, aiming for carriers and transports.

The carriers started to gear up for a strike. The F-35s were now ready, and fully loaded, each with one RBS-15 missile on board. Sixty planes on each carrier were now readying to strike.

Dra-pol
21-10-2004, 07:24
Consul Yónglan headed for Dra-pol almost without noticing anything of his surroundings as he was entirely distracted by his thoughts after the sudden escalation of the situation and the unexpected extent of the Bonstockian proposal. He'd barely forced out a promise to convey the request to his government when Harald called after him, and had said nothing more.

The jet, when it approaced Korea, was met and escorted by a pair of S-11 (AKA Hobgoblin-Export) air superiority fighters, the best that the PAAF could field having been imported in small numbers from Beth Gellert. Yónglan hurried to access a secure frequency-hopping radio as soon as he was arrived.

The gravity of the situation was huge. Few in Da'Khiem felt any affection for Bonstock, and it would be a stretch even to accuse them of respect for that nation, but its not insigificant power was recognised, as was the fact of several common enemies shared by Bonstock and the CPRD. With significant withdrawl of LRR forces, Quinntonia's Korean colony as good as hostage to thousands of UPA artillery tubes, and the prospect of Hudecian entanglement in South East Asia, it was becoming possibile to imagine the realisation of final reunification as coming by force of arms.

However, the typical lack of trust felt by Dra-pol for outsiders was only magnified by Bonstock's reputation as a loose-cannon imperialist state. Comrade Director Secretary Hotan, on hearing the news, instantly expressed concern over whether the Bonstockians would stay the course or simply pull-out of such a co-operation when it suited them, potentially leaving the CPRD high and dry. Asking the Sphere to back-up such a conspiracy was a possibility, but it would likely mean hurting reputation and may even draw the likes of the Chinese powers into direct attacks upon Sphere interests, something likely to invalidate any plan based on major action by the alliance.

Eventually, the comrade Director issued a communiqué to be delivered back to Bonstock. At this early and uncertain stage, the CPRD would allow Bonstockian submarine warfare to be conducted against enemy shipping in the area of Korea -as nations such as Hudecia were sure to operate heavily here in both commercial and military capacity- with the benefit of shelter in major Drapoel submarine pens such as those constructed at Wonsan on the east coast and Namp'o on the west for the aborted SSBN project that had proved too ambitious. These facilities were well disguised and heavily reinforced in the best Drapoel tradition.

Hotan then gave-up all thought of sleep that night as he directed that material and supervisory aid to the Maoists in Kanendru be stepped-up as far as safely possible, even if that just meant sending a few semi-retired munitions experts to train militia fighters. The enemies must feel that Asia is a fire burning against them on all sides and in such a way as is not safe to fight! Certainly the reunification of a Korea divided by imperialism could not remain central to their policy in the region, it was hoped.

Seventy-two of the hardest-trained and most fanatically committed Red Bamboo commandos available to the Republic were born at less than ten knots beneath the waves on a strange southerly course that took them far from shore and most enemy shipping.

OOC2: It's so great to see realistic numbers again!

IC:

With the withdrawal of ROCA troops in Japan underway, the Okinawas had turned into a holiday camp for returning troops. A healthy tourism industry had sprung up overnight, in part due to the large numbers of troops spending their overseas deployment bonuses by lying on the beach, in part due to the 0% taxes on tourism facilities offered by the central government to re-ignite the economy.

There was however, still a healthy military presence in the area. Two Alinghi air defense cruiser and Two Oracle arsenal ships were docked and ready. A wing of 48 F-36 fighters and a couple of P-3 Orions were also stationed in Okinawa as well as 20,000 active servicement and many more on holiday. The islands were defended. As an extra precaution, early warning blimps were launched, and an AWACS with look-down radars patrolled the skies in conjunction with ground ladars.

Although Taiwan was not at war with Bonstock, they had good reason to be wary. President Zhang had just allowed allied naval assets to dock at Okinawa, abeit quietly.

-Sakishimas-

While the first Hudecian battle group may be crippled, the second battle group arrived and launched its wave of attacks against the islands and the Bonstockian surface naval task force.

The first Hudecian fleet along with its almost totally disabled carrier began limping off to get out of range of the Bonstockian fleets.

However, the Hudecian invasion fleet proceeded with its planned invasion, landing troops well before the B-1 bomber strike.

Despite outnumbering the defenders, the Hudecian invasion would be slowed drastically by the incredible resistance put up by the Bonstockians. The Bonstockian engineers displayed the valour, courage and expertise of a regular unit as they held off the Hudecian marines.

Still, a beachhead was secured after 3 hours of heavy fighting and the fighting began to be pushed inland.

-Jeju do-

Not to be outdone by the Bonstockain B-1 strikes, the Hudecian Korean Command diverted three dozen modified H-2s to strike at the Bonstockian fleet along with the carrier based fighters.

This did however, decrease the defensive capabilities of HKC, but it was hoped that with increased Xiannese and Quinntonian presence, it could be afforded for a short time.

And last time I checked, the straight of Malacca was about 25-50 miles across (as a general rule, some places might be winder or narower), but I was looking at a mercador projection world map (even though its at only about 2 degrees north of the equator) and there might be smaller islands that didn't show up on the map that are part of Singapore/Malaysia/Indonesia. So I'd guess the narrowest place in the Straight of Malacca is 25 plus or minus 5 miles.

The government of LRR officially puts its support behind the anti-Bonstock movement, and several divisons from central Siberia are moved to join the pacific subdistrict via the Trans-Siberian railway. LRRA armored and infantry divisions, as well as two Volgostan divisions move to protect the Lyong peninsula on flatbed cars as amphibious brigades prepare to support the assault on the Sakishimas.

While the LRRN has only a small offensive capability, almost all of it is brought to bear on the Sakishima Islands.

ooc: this is the modern-tech Bonstock. 12 Aircraft carriers, 10 army divisions, 20 tactical fighter wings.

Oh, and Chuang-han, what about the islands in the Straits of Malacca? I own them, remember?

Therefore, the whole strait is mine. I can tax it as I like.

ic:

The Bonstocknian Riksdag issues a statement: "All Bonstocknian tariffs and inspections are hereby cancelled for civilian watercraft passing through the Straits of Malacca, so long as the ships identify themselves to the Bonstocknian Coast Guard. All military craft passing through will pay the normal toll."

In the East China Sea, 60 F-35s from the carrier Volvgrad intercept the incoming Hudecian planes, losing 12 of their own in a bitter dogfight. Meanwhile, nearly 150 C-17s take off from Maropian Coast, heading to Miyako-jima. After two get shot down, bringing with them 200 Bonstocknian lives, the rest drop their cargo: nearly 15,000 Bonstocknian paratroopers of the 6th Airborne Division, to reinforce the 10,000 Bonstocknian troops already on the island. Though these troops had only light weapons, they might even the odds.

Still, they could not prevent the utter destruction of the 1st Battalion, 123rd Engineers Brigade, with its 750 men. Those that were not dead were trying to regroup inland from the beaches. Only 150 were not dead, missing, or seriously wounded. The line, indeed, was thin.

Then, 120 F-35s from the other carriers took off, and flew at low altitudes towards the second Hudecian task force. Quickly, their flight ran into F-22s from the Hudecian carriers. Twenty were shot down. The rest moved on, and each fired an RBS-15 missile at the other Hudecian carrier, only to be cut to ribbons on the return trip. Only 60 made it back to the carriers.

However, they got back to find that one of the carriers had been hit by multiple missiles, and was taking on water. The carrier Adolphus was ablaze, and evacuated. She was finally scuttled, and sank to the bottom. Others saw as a missile hit straight at a Bonstocknian destroyer, straight into a magazine. She blew up completely, and went down with all hands.

Meanwhile, a total mobilization was set in motion to start in Bonstock. Automobile factories quickly turned to making tanks and trucks, while ship yards went into full production.

Fighting was still grim on Miyako-jima. As the paratroopers tried to regroup and organize, the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Mechanized, rushed to relieve the battered engineers. With its 150 CV-90 IFVs, it could provide a more heavily armored assistance. Still, it had no tanks, only missiles to stop them. And it would take some time for them to get there. A precious half-hour could mean the difference whether or not Miyako-jima fell.

-Off the Sakishimas-

The first Hudecian carrier succumbed to the inevitable as the first fleet attempted to limp back to Korea. The amphibious vessels would remain behind under the protection of the second fleet but it was well known that the second fleet would likely suffer the same as the first.

As the Hudecian Kitty Hawk class carrier 'Ralph Klein' began to sink, what planes were available we sent off in the hopes that they could reach friendly Okinawa. However, more than 25 F-22s were stuck below decks and could not be launched.

The 20 Hudecian F-22s that had been initially in the air before the initial Grippen strike were either shot down or the pilots had ejected over Miyako island when their fighters ran out of fuel.

As for the Hudecian strikes on the Bonstockian fleet, despite inflicting great damage, the damage they suffered was as great. 20 of Hudecia's H-2s, the pride of the air force were shot down, and 25 of the F-22s were downed as well. Another 15 were downed when the Bonstockian fighters hit the second fleet.

All that remained was 30 odd F-22s on the last Hudecian carrier, which was now burning brightly as the sun set. Hudecian fire crews hoped to douse the flames before they could attract the attention of more attackers.

-Miyako jima-

The remaining 19 500 (casualties - 500) Hudecian marines now organized and attacked the Bonstockian defenders relentlessly. The land battle seemed to shift in the favour of the Hudecians even as the battle at sea seemed lost. Using the UH-60 helicopters to their advantage, the Hudecians moved quickly to exploit weaknesses in the Bonstockian lines.

The second wave of troops would be a smaller one brought by the second fleet but was made up by 4000 troops from an artillery/AA division which could provide crucial artillery support to the attackers.

-Ottawa-

"Our fleet has suffered heavy losses, in particular one of our 2 carriers and several surface vessels," Interior Minister Majiowski reported to House Leader Thabo, who was now essentially in charge since Fieldings had suffered an (unknown to the outside world) mental breakdown during the crisis in Myanmar.

"We may have lost many ships and men, but we have succeeded in our inital goals," Thabo smiled and said. "We have brought the Xiannese, LRR, and Spyrans into the war. As well, the Marimaians, Sinoese and Taiwanese seem to be on the verge of helping us."

"The generals on the ground tell me that Miyako Jima will fall within a few hours," Majiowski went on. "We've authorized our colonel on the island to offer very generous terms of surrender. The troops will be allowed to go home on the grounds that they promise they will not fight again and as long as they leave weapons on the island. However, they will be taken off the island by Hudecian frieghters."

Sorry if we didn't clarify that clearly. When I stated that my fleet was at Okinawa I was only trying to give Bonstock some guage as to how close my fleet was to him and his possesions in the Sakishimas.

Miyako-jima

"God dammit! Get those Stingers, Private!"

"Roger sir!"

The Hudecian Blackhawks were circling overhead, firing at the Bonstocknian paratroopers below. Casualties were being taken; at least 500 paratroopers were missing. 2nd Mechanized Division's 150 CV-90s turned their 40mm cannons on the helicopters, but they would need more firepower to cause a serious dent.

The Private returned, with a Stinger missile launcher. The commander yelled at him, "Aim and fire! And someone get on the radio and tell the Air Force to shoot down these damn Blackhawks!"

The Private aimed, and fired. Meanwhile, 40 JAS 39s took off and sped to the area, to shoot down any Blackhawk helicopters they could find.

"Hey, this is Flatfoot flight to base, we've spotted a rising cloud of smoke in the background."

"Please investigate it."

An Air Force ground controller with the 6th Airborne called on the line. "What? No. Send at least a squadron here. We got Blackhawks that need shooting."

"All right." said the base controllers. "Squadron 2, please continue on course. Squadron 3, investigate the flames."

"Roger."

Twenty of the JAS 39s flew to Miyako, 20 more went to find the fire.

"Dammit, it's the whole damn Hudecian Navy! Permission to fire?"

"Roger, permission granted."

"This is Flatfoot 6! I'm hit! I'm hit!"

"Flatfoot lead to Flatfoot 6. How bad?"

"Flatfoot 6 to leader. SAM impact on right wing, breaking up fast. Preparing to eject."

"Roger. Bail out."

The others dropped low, and saw the Hudecian carrier. They had no anti-ship missiles, only two 1,000lb. bomb each. They each flew to a high altitude, and made a dive-bombing run on the carriers. They were sitting ducks to SAMs, and 6 were shot down. They others dove to 3,000 feet, and dropped their bombs. They heard explosions, or maybe splashes, but they didn't look back. They were still trying to evade SAMs and AAA.

The group's objectives are simple: engage and destroy Bonstockian air and sea assets, then provide air and bombardment support to Hudecian forces as they advance across the Sakishima islands.

LRRA divisions take up the Spyrian offer, and four divisions (three regular army, one Volgostan regular; one amphibious-mechanized, three assault) prepare to be shipped out to the Sakishima islands. Meanwhile, the rest of the pacific military district (amounting to somewhere around 6 divisions; two armored, four assault, three reserve infantry which are not quite mobilized) are moved into battle positions. Airforce units arm up and further camoflauge the dispersed bases from which the LRRAF operates. Anti-shipping squadrons, flying Tornado IIs loaded with RBS-15F missiles, two or three per plane, are a common sight, flying around Sakhalin or Kamchatka. FRA. 4 squadrons are also in evidence, andget ready to intercept any Bonstockian airstrike.

As the trains roll into Vladivostok, a good review of LRRA can be had. Ikv-91T light tanks are present, about 80 total, but the bulk of the units consists of SEP-series vehicles. T-SEP-A APCs, T-SEP-B engineer's vehicles and ambulences, and T-SEP-C IFVs form the bulk of the army's fighting force. The APCs and IFVs are armed with Spike-series missiles, excellent anti-tank weaponry, as are the tanks themselves.

The Volgostan division operates 8x8 tank destroyers, similar in appearance to the Centuaro, and W-SEP 8x8 APCs. Several of what appear to be derivatives of the PT-76 are also thrown into the mix.

Most logistical vehicles are left behind, attached to the other divisions in the Pacific Army Group.

Hopefully, the LRRA forces would fare well. Amphibious warfare had never been the LRRA's strong suit, except for operations in bogs and river crossings.

With the seas around Sakhalin, the Lyong peninsula, and Kamchatka seething with LRRN submarines, corvettes, and patrol vessels, any venture into those areas would be dangerous at best. Nimrod patrol planes venture far out into the Sea Of Japan, looking for submarines to attack. Quiet U-212 class submarines patrol for nuclear-powered attackers, using their AIP propulsion to maximum affect. In fact, as soon as any hostile submarines left Dra-pol waters they would run the risk of being spotted by roving Nimrods or U-212s right off the bat. They would be far safer further out to sea, away from the LRRN's strong coastal defense, preying on somewhat veunerable destroyers and frigates of the surface warfare group.

But while venturing into regular coastal tade lanes would be suicide for any Bonstockian submarines, out at sea, the LRRN surface warfare group heads at full speed towards friendly naval assets. Why Bonstockian submarines would choose to target such an insubstantial threat would probably be beyond the reason of LRRN admirals, and therefore the surface group was deemed probably safe. The ships conveying the LRR and Volgostan divisions from the Lyong peninsula would hopefully be protected by Spyrian and/or Hudecian warships, because LRRN corvettes and patrol vessels lacked utility on long voyages far from shore, and while capable of undertaking them would be of little tactical value.

The East Coast of Dra-pol

As the Bonstockian submarines entered the fortified pens, reassuringly heavy blast doors heaved shut behind them in succession, creating something akin to an airlock system against explosion. The internal docks were almost pitch-dark save a few markers positioned to make mooring possible after the boats were lead a surprising distance into the cliff, through dozens of metres of rock and concrete and metal.

After a few quiet moments, powerful electric lights blinked on, revealing scores of Drapoel infantrymen lining the pens’ interiors. All manner of shielding and communications scrambling devices were active in the facilities as a Banat Major ordered the submarine crews above deck, stating that food was prepared at the Republic’s expense, and that more importantly, the Banat had received intelligence indicating the presence of a foreign spy on one of the boats. All men must stand up and be counted so that this possibility can be eliminated without misfortune.

Da’Khiem privately prepared a statement, not yet released, claiming the detention of Bonstockian submarines violating Drapoel waters and suspected of carrying-out an attack in South Korean waters.

Near Cheju-Do, the early hours of the previous morning

At the north of the island, near shipping lanes running from the principle city, a Hound Class D/E submarine released the last of its mines and began to pull away, as not far off a second vessel of the type finally released a spread of torpedoes against a foreign ship flying the colours of one of the enemy powers active in the south. The mines were supposed to be positioned so as to interfere with any rescue or hunting efforts should the strike be a success.

At the same time, Mago Force approached the island’s south coast, widely dispersed, and its seventy-two commandos made silently for shore aboard inflatable craft or by use of scuba gear. They would attempt to sneak inshore.

Sea of Japan

Shun yawned and rubbed his eyes. It had been three hours since his craft entered the Sea of Japan from Red Group's base in Matsu Dome, and he was looking for any ships to attack.

Of course, the sonar screens showed a small number of contacts, some marine animals, and others some merchant ships. The merchant ships were not on Shun's target list; he had bigger fish to fry.

A Dra-pol submarine would be one of them, he thought. It would be like killing baby sheep; his craft was armed to the teeth, fast, manueverable, and equipped with the latest innovations in undersea warfare, and had an experienced crew. While the Dra-poel might be experienced, their subs were antiquated things, and Shun felt he had a chance.

"Captain!" sonar shouted, excitedly, into the intercom. The bridge crew cursed and rubbed their ears, and the sonar officer apologized.

"Found two contacts," he said, somewhat meekly. "They dont match any known Dra-poel contacts. Scanning inventory for a match."

Shun nodded. "Engines, switch to Caterpillars," he ordered, setting his tea down and screwing the lid back onto the vacuum flask. "Weapons, have torpedoes armed, and get the aft room to prepare a decoy."

"Profile matches Bonstockian submarine," sonar reported.

Shun frowned. "Bonstockians?" he asked. "Are you sure?"

"Certain," sonar replied. "Dead match."

Shun grinned. His rules of engagement had dictated that he could go after any and all Bonstockian shipping, so...

"Battle alert," he ordered. "Secure all areas, and prepare for manuevers. Ready starboard, port, and bottom emergency thrusters, and rig for super silent running."

"Submarine is gone!" sonar reported.

Shun snarled. "Where?" he demanded.

"It just vanished!" sonar reported. "Went straight into a rock face and vanished!"

Shun frowned again. A rock face, and no underwater explosion? None of the sound that accompanied the death of a submarine?

"Submarine pens," he hissed. "Damnit."

"Should we mark the location, sir?" weapons asked. "We can lase it and hope for the best."

"We'll do better than lase it," Shun said. "Prepare cruise missiles! Flood torpedo tubes! Sonar, do you have an approximate location for the submarine pen?"

Sonar nodded. "Affirmative."

"Match bearings and shoot!" Shun ordered.

Two torpedoes and three cruise missiles roared out of the submarine and rushed towards the rock face.

aboard attack submarine Far Wanderer, Jei Sie commanding
near the Sakishimas

Far Wanderer sat in a stretch of deep water, drifting slowly through the deep murkiness. Inside, the helm navigated via locational sonar and laser navigation devices, but the going was slow and rough; their regular navigational sonar was disabled for fear of aiding detection.

The battle raging overhead was no simple matter. Still, Jei was moving his submarine slowly into position, and could not, for now, be bothered wiht details. After all, he had already fired several fire-and-forget torpedoes, though he was unsure if they did any damage to the enemy.

"All stop," he ordered. The helm immediately leveled off, and the engine room quickly shut the caterpillars off.

"Masker system?" Jei asked.

"Active," his countermeasures officer replied. "For now, we are a large anomaly towards the bottom of the sea floor."

Jei nodded. "Position of Hidden Mountain and Jewel Sky?"

"Also hidden, awaiting your command, Admiral."

"Prepare torpedoes for continuous fire," Jei ordered. "Arm cruise missiles also."

"Coordinates are updated, and all weapons are ready."

"Fire off all missile tubes once," Jei ordered. "We will stand by in case someone tries to jump us while the others are emptying their missile tubes."

"Yokai."

Thirty missiles roared up form the deeps near the Sakishimas, inbound for hardened targets (bunkers, infantry positions, and harbors). Another twenty soon followed.

The Bonstockian submarines appeared to be off the east of Dra-pol (Sea of Japan to most, East Sea to us), so I posted as having them come in on the east coast, but it appears that EI is firing after Bonstockian submarines coming in to Dra-pol's west coast?

The Grisha corvette VNS Peaches and Diesel watches as torpedos split a Sovremenny destroyer in two off Jeju-do. Already, one of the LRRN's few powerful surface ships was a smoking ruin.

"Jesus Christ! All hands to battle stations! Enemy submarines are in the area!"

The Grisha, with echos of the Howlin' Wolf upgrade, starts up its battle diesels, switching off of electric propulsion. Crew don life preservers and helmets, and the aft 23mm turret swivels into action. In the infra-red scope, an inflatable boat is sighted, and ripped apart by cannon fire. Apparently, it had been let up at the wrong place.

RBU-6000 launchers are immediately manned and brought to bear on a contact matching a Hound class submarine. 24 rocket-torpedos are launched into the water, and begin to track the sub's engine noise as the allied naval group goes wild.

A Nanuchka is totally vaporized, fortunately manned only by a skeleton crew. Most of the ships donated by the Volgostan republics, however, are manned at least in part by Korean crews, and the strait betweeen the island and the mainland is soon full of activity. After an ROKN frigate is hit by a mine, minesweepers get into action clearing the mines laid by one of the Hounds.

Meanwhile, on Jeju-do itself, fighting breaks out between ROKA and LRRA garrison forces and the Dra-pol commandos. While the commandos are able to overrun many beachfront bunkers, as soon as one shot is fired the entire coast erupts in tracer fire. New anti-commando grenade launchers, designed specifically to protect ships from these kinds of raids, are used in blanketing target bunkers with explosives. 60mm mortars and 14.5mm MGs are also used.

Led by an LRRN Buddy Guy, a formation of Sea Dolphin patrol boats exits the harbor and heads for the areas of heavy fighting, ready to provide fire support to the defenders and to prevent any other teams from landing.

News of the Jeju-do attack quickly reaches mainland LRR. All along the pacific coast, army units rush to cover the coast, as helicopters swoop overhead and Son Houses, Gepards (I think I called them Ry Cooders?), and a few Buddy Guys hunt for submarines, stealthy boats, and inflatables. It would be a tense night on the coast of Sakhalin and the southern parts of the Sea Of Okhotsk...

(Correct me if I'm still confused, but I'll go with this)

Drapoel east coast

The last Bonstockian submarine was passing beyond the second blast doors of the pen into which it had been invited when sirens began to sound deep in the facility's interior, probably inaudible in the waterway. The second blast door began to close even as the submarine was passing through, missing the aft section by just a couple of feet as the boat came through.
It had not fully closed when a missile struck the cliff outside, making no impression on the facility.
A second missile too crashed into the shore, causing fantastic alarm to a near by lookout post, which was showered with dirt and flakes of rock. The third crashed into the heavy blast doors, blackening them and sending ripples through the waterway inside along with an extremely loud thud. The doors were clearly damaged as the dust and smoke cleared, but were visible only for moments before one of the torpedoes too found the doors and left them twisted and jammed in position. Closed enough to prevent vessels entering or leaving, the doors looked to be in a sorry state, allowing a large shaft of light surrounded by countless little specks to dive through the darkness of the waterway and bounce of the second doors as they heaved shut. Pieces of concrete and rock could be seen and heard as they fell from the tunnel's roof and walls and splashed into the cold waters. The second torpedo, which missed the doors by inches, caused vibration enough to break-off a number of large boulder-size pieces of rock and masonry that previously hung by a thread in the battered tunnel.

The extended naval facility scrambled an Mi-14 ASW helicopter within minutes and sent it to the approximate launch point to hunt, but for who remained a mystery, and one that threatened to throw a spanner in the works.

The Central Directorature, Da'Khiem

"...the Bonstockian submarines were apparently modified to fire the sort of old Beth Gellen torpedoes used by the Drapoel Unified People’s Navy, and an initial report indicats that components of a standard Drapoel sea mine were found aboard one of the captured vessels. This may explain the recent unreported loss of several defensive mines positioned in Drapoel waters..."

The secretary looked to Cheiy after reading back his dictation thus far.

"Mh, yes, that's the core of it."

The Beth Gellert-built Hound Class submarine, though quiet and reliable, stands little chance of running far once found by such superior forces as are brought to bear in the strait between the peninsula and the island of Cheju. The boat that had fired the first spread of torpedoes was targetted by the ASW rockets and attempted to evade them, even firing its own offensive weapons back into the cluster, but it was a futile effort as one rocket damaged both steering and propulsion, and a second clipped the hull further forward in the middle of an ill-fated turn by the boat. With water rushing into the midsections and a fire aft, the captain made no effort to surface, instead ordering his boat to head down and to get as far as she could before her final aquatic breath. The crew carried out their suicidal duty, most of the near twenty hands willingly, and a couple at least on a terrified autopilot. It was a significant loss in UPN terms.

Far away on the island's south coast, Mago Force teams had made no effort to initiate contact with the enemy. Those unlucky enough to be discovered across the island's several score kilometre wide coast fought hard, some members of each six-(wo)man team trying to cover the others' attempts to escape into the darkness. They made use of RPGs and grenade launchers as they tried to create an impression of greater force than existed, perhaps diminishing the value of each individual commando as a target.

Others not quickly discovered would lay low, hiding some of their heavier weapons and equipment, with some daring to dress as civilians and pose as travellers on their way from one city to another. Of course they hadn't so much identification as silence pistols or sub-machineguns.

OOC: Kinda a long standing thing was that Bonstock had occupied the Sakishimas and part of Taiwan. We've all RPed for a while acting as if that was the case so it is hard to change that. When we created the 'Modern World' I guess we all assumed that Bonstock would still be occupying those areas.

I guess after these battles that occupation will no longer be the case and all the Japanese territory (including the Sakishimas) will be returned to you.

Sorry if we didn't clarify that clearly. When I stated that my fleet was at Okinawa I was only trying to give Bonstock some guage as to how close my fleet was to him and his possesions in the Sakishimas.

Taiwan is talking about The Japanese People which was not part of the 'Modern World' and so I cannot say that I take his claim to having Okinawa as being serious.

Did that clarify things?

Thanks Hudecia...

I don't have a problem per se with any of that, after all the government has only recently taken over mainland Japan (as will be apparent when I get down to writing O&I's backstory), so I'm happy to go along with Bonstock's current occupation of the Sakishimas. Obviously I don't recognise the presence of Chinese troops anywhere on Japanese territory as result of the TJP muppetry.

I'm kinda busy this weekend so my response to this crisis has had to be slightly delayed, but I assure all it will come...

The final Hudecian carrier, the 'Preston Manning' was now ablaze for the second time in less than a day. As fire crews rushed to try to put out the blaze, an attempt was made to transfer the surviving 25 aircraft to the part of Miyako that had been secured.

"They are daring us to try to take their guns," the corporal reported having returned from the front.

"Well, that wasn't very polite," Colonel Tang complained softly. Turning to his command staff he barked a series of orders that would set in motion another Hudecian advance on the island.

The newly arrived artillery/AA division would provide support for the attacking troops by pounding points of heavy resistance with light artillery and mortars. If necessary, rockets would be employed, but only as a last resort.

Hudecian helicopters suffered severe damage in the almost constant fighting, but were proving to be extremely useful in the combat. The nearly 200 UH-60s were running low on fuel so the majority of them were grounded and hidden in secure territory.

Meanwhile, in Gusukube, antiair weaponry was being set up to prevent the Bonstockians from completely dominating the air battle now that the two Hudecian carriers were out of action.

- Zumachi, the Helekaru coast, Southern coast of Lyong -

The occupation of the Helekaru fishing villages of Taithin and, later, Zumachi by General Guro Kwa's forced march of eight hundred Arrowguard forces has secured the Yamani position along the border with Kaioken. Ferry systems across the Ogawa river move in great numbers of Spearguard troops and vehicles from Arentaka.

Reaching Zumachi, on the Sea of Japan, proved to be simple enough and General Kwa was readying to continue down the coast towards Hairukahama and eventually western Thesho, on the Kar river...

A young Arrowguard trainee runs into the stone house Kwa was using as a temporary command center and pulls out a telegraph.

"General Kwa. Message from Spearguard Command. This is straight from the top of the Yanheshi-shange."

As the general reads his face remains blank. As soon as he puts the message down, he begins walking outside and giving his runners new orders to send out.

"We are not moving out. Orders from up top are keeping us here. Apparently there is some sort of naval war going on in the Sea of Japan. The CPRD, our Sphere allies, may be under heavy assault. The entire Spearguard and Arrowguard have been put on alert, to ready ourselves for a possible enemy landing somewhere on the Southern coast. Our job is to secure the coastline from Zumachi to Thesho, with the incoming Spearguard transport vehicles and whatever Arrowguard heli's they can spare us."

Kwa continued walking out of the village, towards the Sea, all the while issueing orders for the readying of an area for AA batteries and a more permanent landing zone. Soon he was standing on the cliff, looking south towards the far off coast of Drapol.

Speaking up, one of his officers dared to ask the question that played on many of the minds of the exausted Arrowguard troops.

"Sir...how serious is the High Council taking these reports?"

Before answering, all heard the distinct whine of the propeller-driven Mako design Ramjet fighters of the Arrowguard. Flying south, the fighters moved with the shoreline.

"Very seriously trooper...very seriously. High General T'aejo Mora himself will be involved and onsite with the Arrowguard troops in Hairukahama. Spearguard troops are being rushed across these plains as fast as can be allowed. Operation Red Plains has just been expanded."

ooc: wait, are my sailors being detained or are you giving them a base?

ic: Night had fallen. Quickly, LCACs and LCMs from Ishigaki transport the remaining two brigades of the 2nd Mechanized Division to Miyako-jima, protected by a blanket of Bonstocknian destroyers and aircraft flying CAP. The Bonstocknians had now formed a ring around the Hudecian beachhead. By 3 am, 72 Crusader artillery pieces and 72 105mm howitzers were aiming at the beachhead. Tanks and infantry dug into trenches, preparing for the fight ahead. The 6th Airborne paratroopers, the same outfit that was responsible for the Mergui massacre, lobbed mortar shells at the Hudecians during the night, if only in small numbers to keep the enemy concerned and sleepless.

Meanwhile, six Bonstocknian Seawolf-class submarines inched towards the Hudecian fleet. Using the moon to guide their vision, they spotted the burning Hudecian carrier. Quickly, one of them fired off four torpedoes at it. The others fired four torpedoes each, at the transports, before they all left undercover of darkness, before the Hudecian destroyers could react.

The Islandian missile strikes did manage to hit numerous Bonstocknian bunkers, most of which were unused leftovers from the Great Civil War. Still, one of them directly hit a maintenance hanger at a Bonstocknian airfield, destroying it and killing 12 Bonstocknian airmen. The Bonstocknians, assuming these to be Hudecian strikes, did nothing in response, but patrols of SH-60 ASW helicopters were stepped up in the Straits of Malacca.

(Heh, er, well, based or detained? Void or actuality? Er, heh, uhm)

The Bonstockian sailors, bunkered-up in individual fortified pens on the Drapoel east coast, were told by Banat officers that the facilities were under heavy attack by, “the enemies”. In at least one case, of course, a submarine had only just escaped Islandian missiles and torpedoes, though it hadn’t been confirmed that they were Islandian, and a helicopter continued to search. Above the fortifications in some of the pens, explosive charges were detonated in a hastily arranged effort to keep-up the impression of attack as vibrations coursed through the walls.

“The facilities are well shielded.” A Major assured his guest captain. “But I’m afraid that the doors are damaged, and the attack is on-going. Our position is projected against electronic warfare as employed by the likes of the Islandians, of course. Perhaps you and your men would like to come ashore for the duration of the battle, or at least until there is lull enough that we may repair the outer blast doors and clear the exit?” The active electronic defences were meant to disrupt communication as much as anything else, of course.
“Oh, the gasmasks and such are standard issue in many parts of the Republic since the enemies proved their reckless attitude towards weapons of mass destruction.” He would reassure anyone noticing the number of infantrymen apparently ready to storm through a gas attack.

---

On the south coast of Cheju-Do, Mago Force continued to shun combat –they weren’t an invading army trying to conquer the island with a few rocket launchers and rifles- but they did have some plans. They weren’t without risk. In fact they were rather speculative, at best. Long-standing Kurosite-sympathisers and Banat agents on the island were at first relatively few, though present. The massive evacuations and chaos of recent conflicts, primarily the half-successful war for reunification, had seen a good number more arrive on the southern refuge. They were supposed to have found-out more sympathisers, a task hoped to have been made easier by the recent elections; with political debate at a high, agents and sympathisers were supposed to find more of their like, and perhaps some had even infiltrated the democratic institution and picked-out DUP voters to watch for more hard-line sentiment.
In coming days, survivors of the landings would attempt to meet agents who would in turn try to find them local sympathisers willing to put them up in secrecy, as had happened in Hamhung for example.

At low level over the Sea Of Japan, five squadrons of Tornado II fighter-bombers, and two squadron of FRA. 4 multirole fighters, head towards the Sakishima Islands. The FRA. 4s, which might be described as much improved and less costly Eurofighters, carry the Blackadder long-range AAM and AA-11 MOD short-range AAM, and the Tornados carry land attack missiles, to be fired at Bonstockian positions near the Hudecian beachhead. Some of the Tornados carry ALARM anti-radar missiles for attacks on Bonstockian SAMs and early warning radars.

The air group formed a significant chunk (about 1/3) of the pacific military district's combat aircraft resources, and hopefully they would be able to complete their mission of destroying at least several Crusader howitzers and other defenses with small losses. With luck, a countermeasures-equipped pair of Tornados would keep the eyes of the defenders off of the main strike force.

OCC: Bonstock, do you have an AWACS above the islands, or early warning radars? My aircraft are still a good 450 kilometers out, however. Their land-attack missiles haver a 150-km range, and their ALARMs a 30-40km range. The Blackadder AAMs have an 80-100km range (depending on altitude).

As they fired, three more Bonstocknian carrier battlegroups moved into position, and launched a strike. 180 F-35s took to the skies, and flew over the Hudecian beaches and fleet, dropping bombs and stafing what they could find, especially the remaining Hudecian aircraft. Thirty were knocked out by anti-aircraft fire and intercepting aircraft but the attacks continued.

Then, with no warning, twelve B-2 Spirit bombers from Maropian Coast flew over the beachhead, and carpeted the Hudecians with 960 500lb. bombs. Several were damaged, but none were destroyed, and they made it safely back to base.

With this, 300 Leopard IIS tanks and 600 CV-90 IFVs, supported by 9,000 paratroop infantry, advanced on Hudecian lines. Immediatly, the Hudecians took a toll on them. The Bonstocknians fought hard, and pressed on towards the beaches. Fifty of their tanks were knocked out, and fifty of their IFVs suffered similarly, but the advance continued. Infanry came to support, losing 500 men in a catastophic struggle to eliminate the Hudecian beachhead. And that was only the initial advance.

As dawn breaks in the Sakishimas, submarines continue to prowl the waters. Upon seeing a carrier, however, the twelve or so submarines in the area form up on each other, splitting into three groups of four, and begin their attack.

Running on caterpillar drives, masker systems to full, and EMPs at the ready, they fire cruise missiles and torpedoes from extreme range. Meanwhile, on shore, H9 bombers are launched from airfields in Okinawa (thanx taiwan) and strike fighters deploy from battle groups nearby.

Submarines, however, are doing most of the fighting. They are strung out across the ocean, however, and keep up a steady barrage of torpedoes and missiles.

A total of twenty four torpedoes and twenty four cruise missiles are launched in the first salvo. The first salvo is followed by three EMPs, which PRESUMABLY, but possibly not, fry electronic equipment in the area.

In case the Bonstockians try anything else, most of the submarines are equipped with sonic arrays, which emit a sonic boom underwater. Before the submarines use their sonic aarrays, they notify their comrades in the area with three quick bursts of morse code, so that no friendlies are injured. However, the sonic array is saved for later, and two of the three groups begin to advance quickly.

Answering the Yamani call comes several Ka-27 ASW helicopters, heavily modified, and supported by a detachment of Son House patrol vessels, detached from Sakhalin and part of the newest 20 built (bringing total Son House numbers to 140 after the scrapping of many Grisha corvettes).

Meanwhile, over the Sea Of Japan, the five Tornado squadrons arrive within the range of their KEPD-350 cruise missiles. At 300 kilometers from the Bonstockian airbases and major concentrations of forces, the missiles (one per airplane*60 airplanes=60 missiles) drop from the Tornados' central pylons and head on a suicide course at their targets; airbases, munitions storage, artillery positions, radars, and what are assumed to be naval ports.

As their missiles streak south in the early morning sky, the Tornados turn around and head home, AA-11 MOD missiles hanging from their auxiliary pylons for defense against any roving Gripens overlooked by their FRA. 4 escort.

Meanwhile, the 34 FRA. 4s launch their Blackadder missiles at maximum range, hoping to avoid the more numerous Gripens in a close air-to-air engagement. Six to eight missiles per plane are sent at the intercepting fighters, from 120 kilometers range, and then the FRA. 4s turn northward towards home. Hopefully, the missiles would at least distract the Gripens long enough for the outnumbered FRA. 4s to use their superior speed in order to exit the area without being attacked, but the Blackadder has been known to be somewhat inaccurate at the longer ranges. While a very fast missile, the Blackadder could be thrown off by quick course changes in the final seconds until impact, or by effective countermeasures, as can any anti-radiation missiles.

But, with luck, this first combat action of the LRRAF since god knows when would go off without a major problem. Such a number of aircraft the Pacific Military District could simply not afford to loose.

And under the air contingent, the four divisions of the Sakishima group near the islands. Embarked on Spyrian RO/ROs and the motley assortment of LRRN LSTs, many of which probably shouldn't be in the ocean during wintertime, they are about two days from Miyako Jima, escorted by LRRN sovremennys and Krivak MODs. Spyrian combat ships and several 'borrowed' corvettes also form part of the escort. The yet-to-be-completed escort carrier will probably not join the fleet for several more months, however.

OCC: A little word on the somewhat vague FRA. 4:

Imagine the FRA. 4 to be a lot like the Eurofighter in appearance, with much heavier landing gear and several other modifications. The FRA. 4 is equipped with an electrically-aided flight control system, much similar to fly-by-wire. It also has the S-3 ejection seat, touted to be one of the best in the world.

Unlike the Eurofighter, it comes at the more affordable pricetag of 25-27 million USD, with the use of mostly cheap composite materials in production and many off-the-shelf components. It has thrust vectoring, and its engines are very fuel efficent, if not quite supercruise-capable. The FRA. 4 is also designed to operate from dirt and unprepared bases, so it is therefore very tolerant of poor conditions. The landing gear is very tough, borrowed from the Jaguar, and the canards can be turned up to act as airbrakes, along with a spine-mounted brake like on the Su-27.

The FRA. 4 is, on the whole, a world-class fighter, which, while devoid of overly advanced features (like voice-controlled weapons on the Eurofighter), has excellent performance in the air, a very good radar and weapons system, and is very forgiving both in flight and with regards to operating conditions.

It was just turning off lights time. They were entering the Strait of Malacca.

The raggedy boat marked by 'Nation Of Jurrik' boarder marks. Showing approval from the Nation of Jurrik. It wasn't a military boat, more of a Cargo Boat. though, the Cargo was leaking. Atleast some of it. The cracks were pouring out a Powder. Men moving quickly and caulking up the holes and sealing them. They were fifty yards away from the Strait. They must look professional. They didn't want to respond to a Inspection. They might as well just pay the fee.

The pilot was a anxious man. Nervous. He knew of what the Cargo was. It was from the Nation of Jurrik. Drugs. Pure, un-adulterated drugs. From Cocaine, to Heroin and even the Tropical and Exotic stuff. It was a dangerous field to be in now, though he picked up the CB Unit and called in to the Malacca Coast Guard. To get the inspection, he lowered the speed of the Engines and told the men walking on Deck, to load up and be ready. Half the men carried side-arms. Ready, though guarding the Cargo.

The backpack, taken away and examined in security, was delivered into the custody of Banat big-shot Sho Cheiy, who thought it odd that the note was included as if written after the seizure of the vessels. Director Hotan took it as an afront to the Republic that the Bonstockians would distrust and slander Dra-pol by such pre-emptive bribary, buuut he would keep the hundred million all the same.

On his Direction, Red Bamboo soldiers arrested those Bonstockians who had left their vessels to meet facility officers, and after a search prepared them for transport to Facility 10 in Drapoel Andong. After some silence, a Sub-Lieutenant arrived back at each submarine, the crews by now surely aware that the water around them was draining and the vessels likely already grounded. "The attack is worsening! The Choson People's Republic is again at war in the south! The pens are under intense fire, as you can see from the loss of water. We must evacuate this part of the facility. I have been ordered to ask for volunteers to replace casualties in gun and missile crews on the surface. The rest of you are to follow the Corporal, here, and he will take you to a safer part of the base until we are sure that the pens, and your vessels, will survive."

This was of course a deception, but it was the last chance for the crews to leave their submarines without the application of deadly force.

The Spyran battlegroup responded to the Bonstockian attack with the full force of its capabilities... SAMs, CIWS, and CAP aircraft opened up to try and destroy the Bonstockian planes and ordnance. Unfortunately, they could not provide an impregnable screen... the carrier suffered under the impact of Bonstockian missiles, listing slightly and tossing unfortunate deck crewmen over the side. The aviation fuel and ammunition, secured below, escaped detonation, but the flight deck ahead of the bridge had become buckled and torn... the carrier would not land any aircraft for some time. Other impacts to the rear had severely damaged propulsion systems, cutting the carrier's speed by over 60% as it tried to limp away towards the Sea of Japan.

Informed that their landing site had been compromised, pursuit of the Bonstockians was limited... long range SAMs were launched, but the CAP fighters stuck close to home as calculations were made to find an alternate landing point.

While the LRRN operates arguably the best coastal defense and multipurpose light ships in asia, they are of little utility as far out as the Sakishima islands. However, LRRAF squadrons like the ones that so recently mounted a major attack on Bonstockian facilities on the islands, are armed up and prepared to fly missions far out into the Sakishima battlezone.

Six sovremenny destroyers and nine Krivak frigates answer the Hudecian call, and head for the Sakishimas, armed with powerful ASW, AA, and anti-surface weaponry.

Back in Magadan, the keel of a new destroyer to replace the one blown to bits by a Dra-pol submarine is laid. Although Bonstockian air superiority was causing problems, they were not severe enough to cause major setbacks in addition to what had already been suffered.

Casualties:

300 dead,

A Bonstocknian carrier is crippled in the attack, and is forced back. However, production in Singapore has already laid a new keel, and ship-builders work overtime to complete her. Meanwhile, 6 Bonstocknian SA-20 sites in the Sakishimas fire at the Islandian bombers. 18 helicopters took off from Bonstockian destroyers, and started hunting the Islandian submarines.

Meanwhile, the 12 B-2s return, and drop 24 JDAMs each at Hudecian artillery and AA emplacments. The swarms of carrier fighters return over the battlefield.

Meanwhile, a task force including the Draken class battleships Port Yuko and Maropia, escorted by destroyers, make their way towards the Hudecian fleet. Two more of the giant battleships, Visby and Sverige, steam north from Maropian Coast, straight for the combined Spyr and LRR fleets.

Finally, a radio message is given to all Bonstocknians fighting on Miyako-jima: Soldiers of the Federal Republic, victory is within our grasp! Fight with all your last strength to beat back the Hudecian invaders! You're tired, wounded, and exhausted, but now is the time! Forward! Remember, it is not your duty to die for your country. It's to make the Hudecians die for theirs!"

With that, loudspeaker behind Bonstocknian lines started blaring out Wagner's The Ride of the Valkyries, as the surviving Bonstocknian tanks and men made their final punch at the Hudecians. Six newly-arrived MLRS systems fired volley after volley at the Hudecians, arcing over Bonstocknian lines. Two-hundred tanks and over ten thousand infantrymen advanced, pushing ever closer to the Hudecian beaches.

The benefit of being pushed back is two fold, for one thing, you don't need to worry so much about what to defend, you just defend everything, the second thing is that you have a much sturdier defence.

Although the Bonstockians may be pushing with between 10 000 and 20 000 troops, the Hudecians have as many on the island, and now that they are on the defensive are making the Bonstockians pay for every inch they take.

Finally, with all the Hudecian artillery and MLRS' in position, the Hudecians unleash hell upon their attackers. As a final swipe, Hudecian UH-60s are sent in to destroy what they can with what fuel they have left.

In case the Bonstockian advance isn't fully halted, the marines use the time they bought to harden their defences even more, while more air support is realigned.

Aboard the Bonstocknian battleships, the crews could easily see the Hudecians hiding. It was absolutely perfect. A few destroyers were sent out in a screen towards the Hudecian fleet, while the two great Draken class battleships found their way right between the Hudecian fleet and the Hudecian beachhead. They began a brutal and consistant bombardment of the Hudecian defenders with their 9 20 inch guns each, supported by the 155mm guns of the destroyers. A message was sent to the Hudecians. You will surrender at once, or face further destruction.

Bringing this point home was a final killing wave of 120 B-52s from Indonesia. Each of them dropped 105 incendiary bombs on the Hudecian beachhead, carpet bombing them as best they could. Yet at a terrible cost. Fourty were shot down leaving the combat zone. Hundreds of Bonstocknian aviators lost their lives.

All the MLRS sites are destroyed in the LRR bombing, along with 25 Crusader artillery pieces. The remaining pieces continued to boom at the Hudecians. A constant, deafening roar of 155mm cannons, bombs, and naval guns could be heard in the backround, perhaps one of the geatest concentrations of joint force since the Great Bonstocknian Civil War. Now, the fighting became fierce. Bonstocknian infantrymen and tanks pushed ahead. Another division, the 1st Light Division, began flying in from Maropian Coast on C-17s, but they would take yet more time. 5,000 infantrymen had been killed, and 150 tanks disabled. Yet the remainder kept at it. More troops eagerly fought with tooth and nail if need be. Ten would happily die so that one invader would.

As the Bonstockian battleships opened up on the Hudecian land based units, the Hudecian fleet, now interspersed with the Quinntonian fleet opened fire on them, launching wave after wave of anti-ship missiles.

In another move that would be sure to draw both Quinntonian and Bonstockian condemnation, Hudecian attack helicopters launched from destroyers would use Quinntonian aid helicopters as screens before launching attacks upon Bonstockian surface vessels.

As the Spyran/LRR fleet approached the battlezone, the bombers unleashed a hail of anti-ship cruise missiles at the more obvious targets in the Bonstockian fleet: the Draken battleships.

Four destroyers quickly went to the bottom with all hands, and a condemnation went out from Singapore that the Hudecians were "fighting a dirty war, hiding among aid workers, abusing the laws of war." The Draken-class, recieving their baptism of fire, did their job; they kept pounding away, struck by dozens of missiles despite the best efforts of the destroyers to shoot them down. Still, they were taking much damage. Sverige started to take on water, and the other was well beat up.

The ones attacking the Spyrans made their suicidal run, performing their duty: drawing fire, and lots of it. The two fired thier extensive CIWS batteries at the missiles, and escorting destroyers fired missiles, yet each recieved a direct hit. And yet they moved forward, undaunted.

Meanwhile, dozens of LCACs, having now transported the 1st Light Division, started moving elements of an as-yet unidentified brigade-sized armored unit. 15,000 men of the 1st Light Division loaded into trucks and Humvees, and sped off to the combat zone. 6,000 were artillery and support troops, the others were the infantry being prepared to fight. The Bonstocknian tank force had been whittled to a mere 100 battle-capable machines, and of the force of nearly 20,000 infantry who charged, a force of only 7,000 remained. The 6th Airborne, the 1st Mechanized, and the 2nd Mechanized Divisions were in a pitiful state from the continued advance. From the north over the Sea Of Japan, the big LRR air wing arrives close to the battlezone just as the first attack group begins landing back at its bases, well-dispersed across the russian Pacific region. While the arrival of the group only restored a total of seven squadrons to the Pacific Defense District's air resources, it definately propped it up with more substantial anti-shipping platforms.

The second air group, meanwhile, arms its RBS-15F missiles and Blackadder long-range AAMs.

The Tornado IIs fly below and ahead of the FRA. 4s, who take formation at a higher altitude, using their excellent search/track radars to look for air threats. Unless the Bonstockian defenders were to provide targets for the large fighter force, its presence would probably be a waste. Still, better safe than sorry.

Before too long, the six Tornado II squadrons pick up the Bonstockian battleships on their radars, big targets (OCC: Again, correct me if they are stealth. I'm unfamiliar with your ships), which the missiles are locked onto.

At a range of 200 kilometers, two missiles drop from each plane, and rocket towards the Bonstockian flotilla. (You figure about 6*12=72 aircraft, so 72*2=144 missiles aimed for the battleships, but some will probably end up hitting escorts and smaller ships. The RBS-15 is a smaller missile, good for destroyers, frigates, and landing ships, but they'll need multiple hits to sink a carrier or battleship).

Off of Miyako Jima, the LRRN sovremennys (must be about 7 or so) and Krivaks (around 10) add their firepower to the allied task force, which is admittedly not too much, but might cause problems still.

From the dual 4xP-800 (Yakhont) launchers, each destroyer fires eight ASMs at the battleships and escorts, and each Krivak fires 8 SS-N-25 missiles at the escorts as well. One Krivak is sunk in the exchange, and other frigates in the LRRN task group try their best to save the crew, many of which are motored out to LSTs converted into hospital ships, painted white with big red crosses, which are careful to stay outside the main engagement.

The combat LSTs near the secure beaches, and immediately begin to draw artillery fire. Deck-mounted MRLs fire away at the Bonstockian lighter and mid-range artillery as two, converted as specialized bombardment vessels meant only really to support amphibious operations around the Kurils, fire with their longer-ranged MRLs, some firing TM-13 long-range ATGMs to kill SPHs and tanks. Their 130mm howitzers are also turned towards the Bonstockians.

The first LSTs beach themselves on the secure beaches as shells explode all around. One howitzer shell lands directly on the deck of one LST, causing chaos in the hold, and immediately medics are dragging out wounded to be brought to hospital ships.

The amphibious-armored division is the first to go ashore, and its Ikv-91s slosh ashore, ATGM launchers at the ready, with infantry swarming around.

As their LRR counterparts begin their landings, the Spyran vessels brought their guns to bear on the approaching Bonstockian vessels (or did I misinterpret your last post?). If they were trying to draw fire, they succeeded, as the Spyran ships occupied themselves fully with engaging the immediate threat. In the air, fighters from both carriers (totalling about 90 F-40 Falcon fighters (roughly equivalent to F-22s)) split into groups, with foursquadrons (48) moving to provide some air cover for the Hudecians on the ground while the remainder joined with the naval helicopters launched from the Spyran ships to join the rest of the fleet in the engagement.
The fleet was not emerging unscathed... already a frigate had reported heavy damage along its hull, and had retreated to join the carriers behind the screen of defending vessels, and several ships had suffered minor damage, and continued to fight on while attempting to compensate.

Over the battlefield, 2 carrier-launched AWACS/ air control planes began to transmit more detailed information back to Spyr, in preparation for the launch of craft from home bases.

All 75 of its 105mm howitzers open up continuously on the beaches, while 9,000 of its infantry support their comrades of the 6th Airborne and 1st and 2nd Mechanized Divisions. 90 remaining Bonstocknian Leopard IIS tanks lead a final charge throught the woods to the beaches, while the infantry destroy whatever the tanks leave behind.

With the carrier-borne observation aircraft sending detailed data back to Spyran control centres, numerous air wings are put into the air over the Sea of Japan, totalling some 240 aircraft. They head out towards the Sakishimas, stopping short and launching their pair of LRAAMs at the Bonstockian aircraft, before turning for home.

Over the Spyran fleet, the sky fills with the lights of surface-to-air missiles and machine gun fire as the Bongun destroyers bring the power of their Ballista AEGIS systems to bear in defence against the superior numbers of Bonstockian planes, while the Spyran aircraft above the fleet join in with their own SRAAMs and 20mm cannons.

OOC- This is going to be great, it looks as though there is some 600+ aircraft in the air, and plenty of ships engaged, and that is just the air and sea battle. It looks to me that Bonstock is pretty much forced to win this air and sea battle in order to support their land-based campaign, whick looks like it is petering out.
Does this mean that if the air battle is lost, than the land battle is as good as lost withour air superiority?

I am just wondering what my men on my ships are thinking, with an air and sae battle worthy of the Battle of Britian going on all around them, explosions filling the air, huge ship-based guns blasting away at distant targets. My goodness. I am having a pretty unique position as I am positioned right in the middle of the various combat zones, and yet bot engaged. Cool.

IC-With all of this going on, the medivac choppers are flying constantly in and out of the Hudecian embattled areas, all the while rushing to help re-fuel and repair the Hudecian fleet as fast as possible.

The Prayer Warriors in Quinntonian Dra-pol are put on high alert, with orders to pray withour ceasing until the conflict in the Sea of Japan is resolved.

ooc: LRAAMs have how far of a range?

ic: 90 Bonstocknian aircraft are shot down in the first few minutes of the engagement. The rest continue bombing and strafing ground targets and attacking ships.

Meanwhile, a large armored brigade moves into position near the beachhead, as the now 60 surviving 1st and 2nd Mechanized Division's tanks burst open from the jungle onto one side of the beach, with 12,000 infantrymen following them just behind. With this, the 20 inch guns of the battleships cease firing at the beaches, and instead turn upon the Spyran and LRR fleet. Firing at the beach would only cause losses to friendly fire. Still, the pilots start strafing LRR tanks with 30mm cannons, trained to see the differences between them and the Bonstocknian tanks.

IC: As the Tornados, with a head start of at least 100 kilometers, speed towards home on full afterburner, covering ground at a very fast rate, as the badly outnumbered FRA. 4s try to delay and disrupt the engaging aircraft. They first engage the F-35s with their Blackadder LRAAMs, again firing six to eight per plane. (Four squadrons of FRA. 4s would number about 65-70 aircraft). They quickly spot the incoming Gripens, and head north, hoping to use their superior speed and already long distance from the Bonstockian planes to their advantage.

Operating close to the edge of their range, LRRAF aircraft flying from the forewardmost bases in southeastern Sakhalin really only have enough time to release weapons and run. 2,500 kilometers is on the very limit of most LRRAF planes' operational radius. With two underwing drop tanks, they don't need to tank on the way to the islands, but they need to meet up with an Il-78 on the way back, either that or stop by at Jeju-do, which is really only used as an emergency base.

OCC: Remember, there's still about 144 RBS-15Fs coming at your fleet, Bonstock.

IC:

On the ground, the LRRA divisions and Volgostani division fight hard for the beachhead. But fortunately, almost 20,0000 extra troops had been brought into the fight.

Corporal Alexi Ibrahim watches a Bonstockian Leopard come down towards his position.

"Keep it steady...fire!"

The five Spike-LR launchers in his charge loose their missiles at the oncoming tanks, as do countless other ATGMs. The Spike-ERs had already fired and reload their missiles for another round at the tanks. The LRRA has a whole lot of ATGMs deployed with the troops, most of which are being used on the Leopards.

Ikv-91 MOD light tanks sit in hastily constructed defensive positions, their 105mm guns tracking the leopards. Volgostani T-64S1s provide heavy support, and their commanders also fire ATGMs into the oncoming ranks from a turret-mounted Spike-ER launcher. As Bonstockian planes attack, numerous shoulder-launched SAMs are launched at them, as well as Mica VLS SAMs, in this case fired from modified BTR-100 amphibious armored personnel carriers, while they would be usually truck or BMP-mounted.

One Ikv-91 is hit by a Leopard's main gun, and the shell slices right through the front hull. The commander, manning the tank's ATGM launcher, is blown right out of the now flaming tank. Three medics rush over, and find to their amazement that he is still alive.

"Quick, get him on the stretcher!"

They load the man on the stretcher, bandage his wounds as best they can, and give him some morphine. They then run down to the beach, artillery shells landing all around. They spot a medical launch (converted utility landing craft), and run through the surf and up the ramp, depositing the badly burned commander on one of the cots. They then run off and back into the fray. If there is one characteristic of all LRRA infantrymen, it was that they are excellent runners. After all, it takes endurance to keep relatively close to tanks rolling over the Steppe.

Medical teams like this range all over the front lines, taking troops of both sides to be evacuated.

At sea, the LRRN group watches in horror as a cloud of aircraft come its way. SA-N-11 missiles are fired at them, about ten per frigate, 20 per destroyer in the first volley. Reloading gantries move to replace spent missiles as fast as possible as CDM CIWS mounts try their best to down incoming missiles. Explosions are everywhere as ASMs are detonated before impact, but two Krivaks are hit. One splits nearly in half, having been hit in the magazine, and goes down as a handful of crew flail in the water. Another takes a hit on the bow, but remains afloat as crewmen bail out.

The frigates and destroyers are careful to stay outside what they think is the range of Bonstockian guns, and use their ASMs to engage the much more heavily armored and armed battleships. The cessation of the bombardment of beaches allows the LRRA units to organize a much better defense, and causes units to be much more brash. At one point, a platoon of T-64S1s charges headlong into the Leopards, firing their 125mm guns and turret-mounted ATGMs until they are all disabled or destroyed.

OCC: Woah! I didn't loose. I think that's pretty neat.

*Does the not number last dance*

IC: Towards sundown, the LRRAF attack squadrons trickle back to their bases, if you could call them that, since they are generally just ruts carved out of the forest and roads that can support the brand of very robust LRRAF planes. Eight FRA. 4s had gone down, but all the Tornados got off without loss. LRRAF command had never expected such successes. Perhaps because of the fact that there were actually the resources of about 1.7 defense districts in the Pacific region right now contributed to this success.

OCC: Just an air forces check (I've done my navy, and my army is a lot less fluid):

[i]Pacific Defense District (Temporary wartime numbers; about 1/3 borrowed from Central Defense District)

12 squadrons FRA. 4 (total 180 aircraft)
9 squadrons Tornado II (total 108 aircraft)
14 squadrons Jaguar II (total 168 aircraft)

Numerous other support and lighter attack squadrons as well that I don't feel like listing. The LRRAF operates no bombers.

IC:

The few remaining Gripens are shot at with SA-7 series missiles and the remaining Mica launchers, which took heavy losses while defending the beachhead.

As the crusaders and 105mm howitzers begin their bombardment, artillery locating radars find their position, and MRL fire from the LCTs is called in, as is support from lighter artillery pieces, such as D-30s floated ashore. Medics continue to walk along the front lines, picking up wounded and evacuating them to awaiting ships. A field hospital is soon established on the beach for quicker treatment of casualties, and is soon very busy.

Bonstockian Leopards continue to burn, hit by Spike missiles. Apparently, they were much more effective than it was thought they would be. All along the beachhead, preparations are being made for a major attack. The Volgostani division, the heaviest-equipped in the group, looks set to spearhead the attack with its T-64S1s. Volgostani troops ride on their tanks much more often than they use APCs, and this can be both very dangerous and advantageous. Whenever infantry are needed, they are generally there, but they must disembark from the tanks very quickly.

And there still are some BMP-2s to support as well.

Offshore, the LRRN portion of the allied fleet collects itself and prepares for ASW operations, while warding off the remaining Gripens from the Maropian coast.

So far, the fleet had lost only one of its precious destroyers (to a Dra-pol submarine, of all things), but four Krivak frigates had been sent to davy jones's locker, and these would be difficult to replace.

Worst of all is the casualty report, in the high hundreds for LRR troops but presumed to be much higher for Bonstockian defenders. The military command is very upset at such high casualty figures, and apologizes profusely for their personal failures as commanders.

"Bonstockian battleships ahead," sonar reported. "Two contacts bearing two-two zero. I do not believe they have noticed us, Madam."

"Good," Captain Yu replied. "Status of Spirit and Lotus Sea?"

"Holding, two kilometers to either side of us, and a hundred meters forward of our position," sonar reported.

"Spirit reports increased traffic," communications replied. "Spyran and LRR vessels are engaging the Bonstockian fleet."

"Depth?" Yu asked.

"Seven hundred meters," the dive officer announced.

"Distance between us and the Bonstockians?"

"About five kilometers, madam," the navigator replied.

"We will have to engage with missiles," Yu said. "Unless we have any Long Range Engagement Munitions left."

Weapons shook her head. "Expended them all against Bonstockians in Malacca last week," she reported. "And you know how we didnt get a chance to resupply before we got here."

"Bureaucratic stupidity strikes again," Yu said, amused. "In any case, arm missiles and prepare Long Range Submarine simulators, five of them. Communications, ask command for a satellite update, and tell the other submarines to prepare for a concerted attack with whatever munitions they have. Dive officer, take us up to launch depth! Helm, three fourths power ahead!"

From below, thirty SLCMs roared upwards through the waters, speeding for the Bonstockian battleships. Meanwhile, in the air, three EMPs were detonated, hopefully disabling electronics while the submarines, below the surface, moved in.

Aboard the Fifth and Seventh Amphibious Assault Groups
Off Miyako Jima

General Sung Min stood on the bridge of the amphibious assault catamaran Kiawa Atoll, watching as ships throughout the two groups signaled their readiness.

It had been a long time coming here, as hits from Bonstockian submarines delayed them and inclement weather conditions from Islandia had hampered the deployment of the Tao Guards and the First Lancers divisions.

Accompanying the amphibous groups were a carrier battle group (one medium carrier, one light carrier, five destroyers, three submarines, four catamaran cruisers, and three frigates) and a strike group (five strike catamarans and five catamaran cruisers).

As the ships begin opening up on Bonstockian troops and a wave of HE cruise missiles descend on the Bonstockian fleet, the Tao Guards and the First Lancers come ashore in hovercrafts, VTOL aircraft, and LSTs onto beacheads already established by Hudecian and LRR troops.

Meanwhile, a single submarine comes in from the north of Miyako Jima, carrying three Zero Teams. Hopefully, the surronding noise would distract the Bonstockians, and the submarines would be able to loose their deadly passengers on Bonstockian support troops.

*******

Fighter brigades from nearby Japan and PRC China are thrown into the mix. Approximately five fighter brigades (a hundred fighters each) and two strike units (fifty each) are ordered into action against Bonstockian battleships.

Pending support and approval from allied commands, naval strike units will use seismic munitions on Bonstockian positions (not on Miyako Jima). Newly developed, these munitions emit seismic waves, simulating earthquakes...of course, they will not be used on Miyako Jima, but on places elsewhere if allied nations deem it fit.

The LRR command, feeling like it had exacted proper revenge for Mergui, seems ready to slack off on the fighting. With Miyako Jima practically in their hands, Bonstock would be forced to make at least some concessions in any peace negotiations. And the sinking of Bonstockian battleships must have had at least some impact on morale. Especially after all but eight of the air group attackers got away safely.

The LRRA, for most of its existence a huge mass of men and tanks, has always been suspicious of special ops forces. After all, most of the LRRMFs is support personnel, and all of it is trained to have at least intermediate technical skills. This is especially useful for maintaining the large numbers of armored vehicles, trucks, missile craft, and aircraft that operate without major bases.

But nevertheless, the arrival of Islandian troops is very helpful. They are immediately directed to positions behind the frontlines. The artillery dueling continues for hours on end as the 4th Tank-assault Division of the Volgostani army gets in position for an attack, with LRRA infantry and amphibious-armored troops supporting. Islandian forces will probably be committed to the attack as well.

Seemingly a world away from the war, Bonstockian officers arrested after leaving their submarines to speak with their hosts had spent their time since then in experiencing the Banat's persuasive streak as the Republic's secret police tried to convince the officers to order their crews to leave their vessels.

The submarines themselves sat now grounded in hardened pens emptied of their waters. The Drapoel were quite prepared to wait all year if that was what it took to starve the crews out, but hoped that it could be avoided. Efforts had been made to attack any accessible communications arrays, and active jamming measures as well as the facilities' shielding remained in place as Da'Khiem told the world that Bonstockian submariners had attempted to sneak spies into the Republic and had then become involved in an attack on a Unified People's Navy facility.

The CPRD had lost a submarine and perhaps a couple of dozen lives in a war it never officially joined, and it now held four more modern submarines and dozens of foreign submariners in shadowy circumstances.

(OOC: Dra-pol, just pump the subs full of sarin gas. It's better than they deserve. Anyhoo, time for Operation Fiery Vengeance...)

IC:

1am, Bonstock Time

Eastern Marimaia

The aircraft took from various airbases, joining up on their way to the target. No warning was to be given, no chance for the opposition to accuse Marimaia of dirty tactics. The staging point for the air armada had been chosen for a specific reason; their course wouldn't pass over enemy territory until they reached their target. Submarines had been ordered to clear any hostile vessels from the flight path.

Port Yuko would be firebombed back to the Stone Age. As Bonstock did to a town regarded as part of Marimaia, Marimaia would do unto Bonstock's capital. Central Command was unsure if 100 MNR-1 Assault Bombers escorted by 300 SU-27s and MiG-35s would get through the Bonstockian air defenses, but since they were flying over open ocean until they actually reached the city, they had as good a chance as they would ever get.

In the Gulf of Thailand, six Susanowa-class submarines drew bearings on the Bonstockian capital and began launching smart missiles. Central Command didn't really care about civilian casualties, as they were only Bonstockians. While the NeoSuunist regime hoped that the rest of Asia would understand, they also realised that the democracies probably didn't have the stomach to repay Bonstock properly; therefore it fell to the guided nations to exact penance.

The Marimaia-Bonstock border

The quiet of the early morning was shattered by MLRS shrieking across the border towards identified Bonstockian positions. Hind gunships and SU-27s provided air support as a division of Jungle Warfare Corps troops crossed the border. Approximately 100 Type-63A Amphibious Light Tanks followed, alongside three mechanised infantry divisions using Type-89A APCs.

The first mech.inf. division headed south from Satun, aiming for the town of Alor Setar; the second headed southeast from Narathiwat towards the town of Kota Baharu. The third headed southwest from Betong; its mission was to cut off Alor Setar and the surrounding area before continuing down to Butterworth. This was by no means a full-scale invasion; the plan was to occupy Perlis State, Kedah State and parts of Kelantan State in an attempt to open a war on two fronts for Bonstock.

Central Command had issued harsh directives; the Bonstockians had tried extermination of a town, so Marimaian troops were given orders not to hold back. If gas had to be used, so be it; the same for incendiary devices and other weapons. There had been an argument that to fight a dirty nation with their own tactics would make Marimaia dirty as well; however, the winning school of thought was that to defeat evil, you have to become evil.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Foreign Ministry sent out communiques to all nations already fighting Bonstock, informing them that if they wished to use Marimaia as a way into Bonstock, then the Marimaian people would accept it. Marimaian airbases were available for staging strikes on mainland Bonstock, and Marimaian ports were available for refueling.

In addition, Aung San Suu Kyi reached a private agreement with the Myanmar Resistance, meaning that resistance fighters began moving down to fight against Bonstock in the field or anywhere they could be encountered (OOC: Hudecia did agree to this; since he's out at present, I thought I might as well let you know).

The official declaration of war by Marimaia and the Union of Burma would wait until after the air attack on Port Yuko.

Radar sites in Northern Malaysia notice something stange; a large formation of hostile bombers was approaching. All through Northern Malaysia, the Bonstocknian Air Force scrambled 600 JA-39s to intercept. News thn comes in about MLRS attacks; word spread out quick: Marimaia must be responsible. A declaration of war was quickly in order.

As this happened, the response was quick and brutal. Across the border with Thailand, 600 Smerch rockets arc towards Maimaian troop concentrations and artillery. They are joined by 480 A-10 Warthogs, which fly across the border, and lay bombs on the Marimaians, then continue engaging targets of opperatunity. With this accomplished, 1200 Leopard IIS tanks ride into battle along the front, followed by 48,000 infantrymen. They make north, and attempt to destoy any and all Marimaians crossing the border. From dozens of sites all over Malaysia, 1,200 SS-20 missiles, loaded with conventional munitions, are fired at Bangkok.

Meanwhile, it becomes apparent at dawn that the battle for Miyako-jima is far from over. The night allowed for Bonstocknian reinforcements; at dawn, after a quick artillery barrage, 6,000 Bonstocknian infantrymen get out of their trenches and advance at the center of the enclosed beachhead, led by 60 tanks. They fight ferociously, with a renewed detirmination.

All four of the Bonstocknian crew take the nuclear bombs, and set them off. All the subs are destroyed, and their crews are listed as "missing in action, presumed dead." In the event that this bizarre doctrine does exist and that any blasts do occur, Da'Khiem will be advising its allies fighting Bonstock to try saying, "I know something you don't know!" and then to cut some telephone lines in Bonstock and to duck and cover.

Attempts to get them to agree to tell their crews to leave their submarines wouldn't actually have resulted right-away in direct contact between officers ashore and crews shut-up aboard, owing to the desire to keep the crews in the dark and the fear of the officers spilling the beans either overtly or in code. The Banat just likes to break enemies of the people and have them as good as admit their dishonour. Presumably, the submarine crews know only that the officers who went ashore have been gone a bit longer than expected, and that, apparently, the facilities are under attack by Islandian or other such forces, resulting in damage and the draining of the waters. I don't know if it'd be possible for the submarines to contact Bonstock-proper when out of water, deep inside cliff-side facilities with shielding against radiation and EMPs and what not, with active jamming efforts underway and excused as security related to the enemy attack, but the officers ashore would certainly have been releaved of any communications link to their submarines, upon their arrest.)

In the event that this bizarre doctrine does exist and that any blasts do occur, Da'Khiem will be advising its allies fighting Bonstock to try saying, "I know something you don't know!" and then to cut some telephone lines in Bonstock and to duck and cover.

ooc: yes, my officers shot themselves, and my subs nuked themselves. They are told in training that should they be captured, they are to expend their own lives so as not to reveal anything.

And if you removed my officer's side arms, they always have cyanide pills in their pockets.

(OOC: Well, the chances of getting a pill from pocket to mouth at the moment of arrest are fairly slim, but it's always possible that some may have managed it. There after it would not be likely that such things would escape search. The notion of the subs nuking themselves on capture is a mute point if those on board can't immediately confirm the fact of their capture. Then there's the whole issue of how realistic that get-out-of-gaol-free card actually is to exist and to be practiced. I mean, I can believe the typical Red Bamboo soldier taking death over capture and it being accepted or else covered-up in the CPRD, but for whole ships full of rank and file recruits to routeenly nuke themselves and have it be an accepted policy tollerated by the nation is another. Even in an extreme case of a Drapoel submarine being captured by established mortal enemies it's a bit of a stretch... to have it be run of the mill policy in relatively more open Bonstock and applied at the drop of a hat on suspected capture by a nation that isn't even a solidly established enemy is far too stupid to be policy of a nation state capable of governing itself.
If we somehow get around the barriers to them even concluding that the situation merits such action, it'd be known that they're going from having a couple of submarines captured -potentially to be released at a later date, given that Dra-pol's not even in the war- to dragging Dra-pol into the war and removing barriers to the use of WMDs or any other extreme measures. I mean, so, it both seems like cheap, shoddy RP from an OOC standpoint, and absolutely stupid policy from an IC standpoint, though that at least is any player's right, I suppose.)

(OOC: So the MLRS did absolutely no damage whatsoever? Wow...)

Marimaia-Bonstock border

The A-10s were intercepted by the Marimaian air support relatively quickly (OOC: as in, while they're bombing Marimaian troops since the air support is providing air support to those very same troops), with a dogfight erupting above the border. Marimaian air defence positions began targeting any A-10s which made it through; the Tunguskas and Gadflies took care not to shoot down their own comrades. The rocket attack had taken out roughly a third of the artillery positions and killed about 150 personnel; the remaining artillery began bombarding the positions where the rockets had been fired from.

On the ground, the Marimaians lost 10 of their tanks to the bombing, as well as over a hundred soldiers; losses could have been far greater if not for the air support. News of Bonstockian tanks moving up caused the Marimaians to put more air support on alert; meanwhile Hind gunships continued their efforts against Bonstockian troops, but they had to fall back to safer airspace as Bonstockian air defence took out five of their number.

Further within Marimaian territory, an armoured division equipped with Type-98 MBTs was ordered to move towards the border, using the main road system. They soon moved within the air support screen.

Rangoon

Not many citizens were still living in Rangoon after its near-destruction in the Marimaia-Myanmar war; when the missiles hit, the city virtually ceased to exist. Over a thousand civilians were killed, along with many reconstruction personnel from various nations. The Myanmar Resistance began ordering fighters to attack Bonstock wherever they could; this led to over a thousand fighters making their way towards the Marimaian-Bonstock border by armoured transport provided by the Burmese government, taking their arms and equipment with them. The Resistance had more fighters at their disposal, but kept them back for future use (until Hudecia returns, I'll RP the resistance as they're now on the same side as Marimaia; once he returns, I'll give them back).

The Gulf of Thailand

Marimaian air defence positions across the south of the nation were put on full alert due to the high number of enemy aircraft in the air; the air defence networks of major cities were also activated. Marimaian radar systems detected the large Bonstockian air presence and dispatched 200 MiG-29s to join the bomber armada, which changed course to join up with the new arrivals. The now-larger force moved to meet the enemy.

The Susanowas launched thirty-six missiles, followed by another thirty-six; rather than targeting Port Yuko as originally intended, the missiles streaked towards Bonstock's advancing reinforcements in Peninsular Malaysia.
Novus Arcadia
31-10-2004, 12:44
The region of Dystopia has been plagued with war for the past several months; below is a brief description from an Arcadian soldier's daily journal:

"His Royal Excellency, the Emperor of Novus Arcadia, began to wage war on the Barbaric Territories in early September, when international support was more readily available; it soon became clear, however, that the international support which was at one point expected and counted on would no longer be fully available, due to the complaints of the Allies that the Arcadian Government dealt far too harshly with the Barbarians.
Having the military support of three nations (Anikosa, Spotsvania, and Noyents), the Emperor personally took over 180 thousand troops into battle against the Barbarians, and by November 3 of that same year, Arcadian and Anikosan troops had pressed into the very heart of the Barbaric Territories. It seemed clear that the principal difficulty was over and all that remained was to claim the area in the name of the Allies. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worst, when Barbarians stormed the neutral nation of Al Qaeda, overtaking its government and forcing its helpless citizens to flee to the north - to the Empire of Karamu and to Noyents.
By November 6, the Allies forced
their way into Al Qaeda, and fought the
Barbarians in hand-to-hand combat, in major public areas. By November 15, the Barbarians had been forced virtually into the hands of the ever-ready Noyents, who intercepted the harshly-driven Barbarians with a massive cavalry assault, supported by several ranks of powerful infantry. The Barbarians were soon driven south, heading again for Al Qaeda, when they were blocked by the weary Arcadian and
Anikosan troops on November 19. Most of
the Barbarian leaders were killed, although a large part of the community fled to the neutral nation of Karamu, where small establishments still exist."

The situation has become, to the general displeasure of his Excellency, the Emperor of Arcadia, a difficult human rights issue for the govenrment of Karamu, to the northwest of the Al Qaeda nation. The Empire of Novus Arcadia requests any amount of funding to help support the small communities of Barbarians living in Karamu - the government cannot take a much greater starin, since it was the principal participant in the military struggle, and has no allies to provide cooperation in the monetary situation. Any help would be greatly appreciated by His Excellency and the entire Empire would be very grateful.

The Bonstocknian advance continues despite the high casualties, as A-10s continue firing at tanks, while the Bonstocknian tanks advance behind them.

Reinforcements continue arriving on Miyako-jima.

ooc: Dra-pol, ok, maybe that was extreme. The sub captains will commit suicide with pills, though you could alway pump their stomachs and revive them, just expect them on interrogation to say, for example, "Captain X, serial number 03-103-056." But the crews have rations for quite a while, so if you want to starve them out, it will take a while. And it will become apparent that they don't have a friendly reception waiting. If you sarin them out or raid the ship, yes, they will nuke themselves, or at least burn all documents and set detonation charges to the damn thing before they're captured. And upon that, as is Bonstocknian tradition, they will give you rank, name, and serial number, and no more, even under threat of execution.

60 fighters are lost, a carrier is badly damaged and forced out of action, and six destroyers and two submarines are forced to the bottom with all hands.
Dra-pol
31-10-2004, 15:00
The crisis in Dra-pol's sub-pens dragged on as a degree of ignorance persisted on both sides. Bonstockian submarine crews remained cut-off from the outside world, and Drapoel authorities lamented the suicide of so many potentially valuable prisoners as doctors tried to revive a handful of comatose survivors.

It was understood that the big submarines were nuclear weapons platforms, and dealings with Bonstock were few and far between. The Republic couldn't simply release the vessels knowing that they may go on to attack her Sphere allies, and certainly not now that so many officers had killed themselves- the crews would probably not react well, to say the least.

Measures were being put in place to destroy the submarines if all else failed, and tonnes of high explosives were brought into the facilities. But this was hardly an ideal solution. Not only was Da'Khiem keen to salvage technologies from the impounded vessles -and perhaps nuclear warheads much more advanced than the fairly crude boosted-fission devices tested by the CPRD- but the chances of further damage being inflicted to valuable naval facilities was not appealing, either.

Comrade Sho Sulu, attaché to the Shining Sphere of Revolutionary Co-prosperity finally filled allied governments in on the details of the situation. The CPRD had impounded four Bonstockian submarines beleived to be carrying nuclear warheads for deployment against that nation's enemies, and several officers arrested had since commited suicide. Two remained alive but unstable, unconscious and possibly brain damaged (ooc: if that's acceptable to Bonstock. They can always fail to survive), and the submarine crews were as yet largely in the dark. Nobody knew exactly how long it would be possbile to keep them ignorant of their situation, nor how they might react upon concluding that the attack on the facilities was long over, and that they were prisoners and some of their captains dead.

The Red Bamboo had considered flooding the submarines with nerve gas, but were not keen after it was suggested that the vessels would perhaps be able to isolate attacked sections, and then to respond in some regrettable fashion. It had also, rather radically, been suggested that the Republic fill the facilities in with concrete and come back next year, which gave one an idea as to how obscure was much Drapoel tactical thinking in this unusual situation.

Somewhere on Miyako-jima

Lieutenant Joe Hoffman walked into tent, where Battalion HQ was waiting for him. Lieutenant Colonel Udo Koch, the battalion commanding officer, was waiting. "What took you so long, Lieutenant?" was his cold greeting.

"I was held up. Two of my men were just shot getting up from a trench."

"You'll have replacements."

"May I have permission to speak freely, sir?"

"Granted."

"Sir, you can't just keep this game of replacements going. I'm losing too many men."

"The 1st Light Division can deal with acceptable losses. After all, just look at the other divisions."

"We just got here late."

"So what?"

"Sir, with the arrival of LRR and East Islandian forces, morale is at an all-time low."

The colonel gave Hoffman a good stare in the face for a moment. "Lieutenant, we have a plan go here. Your platoon is to probe the center lines, and lead an advance into the center of the beachhead."

"That's suicide!"

"Indeed. Your troops are expendable."

"What? Are you calling all 31 of my brave men 'expendable?'"

"Yes. We're sending you as bait for something bigger."

"Well, what?"

"I am not authorized to give you that information, Lieutenant. Your permission to speak is revoked. We move out at 0600 hours."

With grudging acceptance, Hoffman said, "Yes, sir." He then walked out of the tent, to some trenches a few yards away. A few artillery rounds and machine gun bullets landed nearby, but did not hit him. He got into the trench, where his men were waiting. He yelled, "2nd Platoon, on me."

A man got up, and said "Yo, Hoffman, what's goin' on?"

"Bergren, we move out at 0600."

"0600?"

"Yes, Sergeant. You will lead your squad out first"

"Damn! They got like 40,000 troops over there!"

"Yes. A squad of 8 must take them on. We'll follow a few seconds later."

"They've got tanks."

"I know. And we have 84mm recoiless rifles. Begren, this is all a bunch of bullshit I think. But its our job."

"All right. Just remember, don't get cockey thinking you're an officer."

"Don't worry. I still remember where I came from. Now get some sleep."

Some more shells landed nearby. Sleep would be hard.

Dawn slowly began to break over the island. The men began to rise. It was almost time. Hoffman looked at his watch. It read 0555 hours. The men cutched their weapons, and Hoffman looked over the trenches. Seeing the enemy ahead, he grew anxious. Five more minutes, he thought.

Marimaia-Bonstock border

The Marimaian advance into Bonstock had all but ground to a halt; the invading forces were now deploying in defensive positions just within Bonstock's border. Mobile anti-air units were being brought across into Bonstock to deal with the A-10s; any MRC fighters who turned up with Stingers were 'requested' to attack any Bonstockian aircraft they could see.

Another five tanks were lost completely, with six more being abandoned as they lost various vital systems. Soldiers were continuing to fall, but as the air support increased to nearly 500 SU-27s and Hind gunships, the number of dead was starting to increase by less. Missile support continued from the Susanowas in the Gulf of Thailand, and the Marimaian 2nd Fleet was now providing missile and air support from the Bay of Bengal. 20 SU-27Ks from the 2nd Fleet had already been lost, but casualties were to be expected.

Above the Gulf of Thailand

The now-600 aircraft strong armada finally located and began attacking the Bonstockian aircraft sent up to intercept it, gattling guns blazing and smart missiles locking onto targets.

At the battlefront, the Bonstocknians make a push for the cities of Had Yai and Songkhla, in said order. The 1st Army, responsible for the attack, moves to surround Had Yai, sending the majority of its force, with 750 tanks and 30,000 infantry, supported by 375 Smerch launchers and 300 A-10s, around the western side of the city. Meanwhile, 120 A-10s patrol over the eastern side, while 150 Smech launchers pound it into submission, followed by 300 tanks and 12,000 infantry. Losses multiply by a factor of two; 75 Smerch launchers and 150 tanks are knocked out, 60 planes are downed, and 6,000 infantrymen are killed.

The crew of the SSX1 MBT watched as the Bonstockian tanks advanced in the distance. Their battalion commander checked their camouflage netting and infrared masking one final time, and gave the order to fire.

Twelve self propelled howitzers, thirty SSX1 MBTs, and twenty older K1A1 tanks fired, a hail of 120mm munitions filling the sky. To the west, MLRS batteries opened fire with 320mm rockets on the incoming troops, while aircraft bombed and strafed with thousand lb (500 kg) munitions and watergel explosives.

Five armored cars acting as scouts were lost, destroyed by the advancing forces, while three MBTs were knocked out of action when they attempted to save the armored cars. Two IFVs were also destroyed when they were caught in the surprise advance and ran out of anti-tank missiles.

Aboard attack submarine Far Wanderer, Jei Sie commanding
Sea of Japan

The Far Wanderer had, by now, been re-tasked to support Red Group operations in the North Pacific, near the Sea of Japan. And with the discovery of a Dra-poel submarine facility, it was about time, too.

Twenty submarines, nearly half of Red Group's operational strength (and all of its Matsu Dome garrison), were prowling the waters of the Sea of Japan and Yellow Sea. Following the discovery of the Bonstockian submarine 'vanishing' into a Dra-poel rock face, the submarine force commanders had ordered missiles launched against the approximate location of the suspected hidden facility. Nonetheless, it was only an approximation, and it was doubtful what damage that the hundred fifty missiles (launched in two salvoes) did.

As such, attack submarines were soon ordered into the Sea of Japan, near where Captain Shun and his crew had last spotted the Bonstockian submarines. The wolfpacks, about five in total, had orders to disrupt Dra-poel shipping and fire as many munitions as they could into the hidden facility before making their escape.

As a second resort, H9s are tasked to attack the location with a large amount of weapons, including Nuclear Hardened Earth penetrators, a technology stolen from the AMericans. If all else fails, then five fifteen thousand pound bombs will also be dropped, via H9, and it is believed to take care of that.

Submarines monitoring the entrance to the hidden facility have noted no activity as of late. As the wolfpacks enter the hostile waters in teh Sea of Japan, it is unknown what dangers they will face....

In The Igovian Soviet Commonwealth, Local Senates are divided as to what position Beth Gellert ought to take. Many voices demand continued none-involvement, but they were often drowned-out by cries of, "coward!", "nationalist!"* or, "counter-revolutionary!" Others thought it best for the wider international community that Beth Gellert should erase the Bonstockian race in Asia, and still others promoted the idea of simply assassinating that nation's corrupt leadership. In the end, the most common opinion was one backing the placing on Singapore of increased pressure to capitulate and accept armistice terms from the progressive opponents before the Igovian Soviet Commonwealth was forced to involve itself.

Certainly Igovian ambassadors were urging a halt to attacks on entire cities and making it increasingly clear that democratic pressure in Beth Gellert would lead to intervention against Bonstock if resolution was not forthcoming. The ISCBG could not remain out of the conflict forever.

In India and Singapore, military traffic was at a high, and many public debates pondered on the possibility and morality of offering at least ABM systems to nations fighting Bonstock.

*In Beth Gellert, the notion of nationhood has long been on the wane as evolved communists put politics above patriotism. The Commonwealth is of course a union of once independent tribal-based communities, forced together under the East India Company, which chose to dismiss the chance for independence in 1947 and banded together. Nationalism is considered obsolescent, and one might as well call another a caveman or a monkey as a patriot or nationalist.

OOC: Alright Bonstock, I would like you to explain something to me. I have three Marimaian divisions (approx. 90,000 troops + logistics and whatnot; this division size is in my nation's factbook) just within your border. There is an armoured division just within my border. Yet you've magically swept past them and in less than a day you've reached one of my population centres and have it under siege.

Since you're apparently intent on levelling my nation to the ground, at least do it within reason. I'll assume that the troops got past mine in some way, but I hope this is the last time I'll have to.

Oh, and sorry for calling Singapore Port Yuko; I'd seen you refer to it previously as Singapore/Port Yuko, so I thought you'd renamed the city.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

IC:

The Marimaian forces in Bonstock all pulled back in order to engage the Bonstockian forces which had somehow reached Had Yai, while the SU-27 air support and the 9th Armoured Division moved in as well. The MRC fighters continued a guerilla campaign within Bonstock, attacking infrastructure in nearby towns but taking losses every time. They had already lost 250 out of 1000, but their morale was still high; after all, they were now fighting the enemy they'd hated for so long.

Central Command had complied with Southern Command's requests for assistance, and 5000 Sukhothai special forces personnel were enroute to the battlezone.

Taishita aka 'The Marimaian Capital'

The tiered air defence system of Marimaia proved moderately successful in defending the capital. As the missiles passed over Marimaian territory, they ran into heavier and heavier concentrations of defences. Gattling Installations in the first line of defence, S-300 systems in the second and subsequent lines, and finally ABM-4 Gorgons launched from sites around Yutu Yinchon, Shanjing, Qizhou, Moushuan and Taishita itself took out a large portion of the incoming missiles, but 200 still ploughed into the city itself. Much of the southern part of the city was destroyed, including embassies of many Asian nations and the headquarters of the Ministry of Resettlement. Over 40,000 civilian casualties were reported, and the NeoSuun Guard moved into action alongside the emergency services to fight the resulting fires and help rescue any survivors.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luozao Palace, Taishita

Tian quickly checked Suun for injuries; the blast had shattered many windows around the city, and Tian had pinned the Premier to the floor, covering him with his own body to protect against flying glass. The Premierial entourage had only returned from Hamhung that day, and things were already looking bad.

"Are you alright?"

Chiisu nodded and smiled weakly. "I'm okay." The young Premier's expression turned to horror as he noticed the numerous gashes over his spouse's body. "Tian..."

Tian nodded. "I know. You're safe, that's what's important. I'll be fine."

The medical team arrived quickly, and despite Tian's protests, Chiisu ordered them to take him away to be patched up. Suun left the palace and joined the rest of the cabinet in Central Command, deep beneath the Ministry of Defence. Wanfa and Kunzai were already holding control cards when Suun entered the operations centre.

"Give us the word, and it's a go."

The Premier looked at them suspiciously. "Those aren't for the nukes, are they?"

Kunzai chuckled and shook his head. "No, Your Excellency. Just a retaliation. MariSat One has identified several lovely targets in Singapore. We can either launch ballistics, or bring MariSat One down on top of them. We'll still have satellites two through ten for observation purposes. They've already destroyed Rangoon, and they'll probably launch against another of our cities when they realise that Taishita is still standing. They have ignored the rules of war, so I say we do as well."

Suun sighed. "First things first. Rongyi, contact Singapore. I won't plunge this nation into a missile exchange or nuclear war. Suggest a ceasefire, pending a formal peace treaty."

The Spyran fleet consolidates its position with the LRR ships, coming close to the Quinntonian-Hudecian fleets and into range to provide support to the Hudecian beachheads. In addition to Yamani Makos, more capable Spyran ships and aircraft have been heavily patrolling the area, fearful of Bonstockian submarine attacks. As the Islandian submarine forces begin to concentrate in the Sea, the Spyrans move to track them, attempting to communicate that, through the SSRC, Spyr has secured Drapoel neutrality, and that attacks against the Choson People's Republic would be ill advised, as they would do little but provoke a renewed war for Korean Unification and needless destruction in Hamhung and the South.

Sithin, PRS

Spyran diplomats are working overtime as they attempt to coordinate and negotiate with the nations involved in the war against Bonstock. Proposals fly forward from Spyran embassies and consulates to their allied counterparts.
Notably, it is suggested that the opening of new fronts will break the Bonstockians logistically, and that Dra-pol should be left out of the war, considered a neutral party, to prevent a policy retreat from recent attempts at opening up the country. Assurances are made that Dra-pol is not, nor shall in future, assist Bonstockian efforts (as evidence, amongst other points, it is pointed out that Dra-pol is a member of the SSRC, whose remaining three members are in open war with Bonstock).

_Taiwan, Sino, Xiaguo, Chuang-han: It is suggested that a unified Chinese assault against Bonstockian holdings in Maropian Coast can overwhelm the defences there and secure the last remaining piece of Chinese soil under foreign occupation. This would have the added benefit of cutting off the Sakishimas from a nearby base for reinforcements.

Oshima & Izu: As the Sakishimas are Japanese territory, it is suggested to the Ringist Shogunate that they begin preparing troops to assist in the restoration of the Sakishimas to Japan... with the added benefit that having troops involved from the beginning will assist in stable reintegration and put them in a position to establish secure control over the islands.

East Islandia: It is suggested that, rather than concentrating submarines and special forces where allied troops are already concentrated, EI could open an effective 'eastern front'... aircraft and special forces could attack and take control of many of the numerous islands in south-eastern Bonstock (notably the lesser Sunda islands and Moluccas), perhaps with conventional advances in New Guinea and perhaps Timor & Java. Islandian submarines, renowned for their effectiveness, could move directly into the seaways between the Bonstockian islands and destroy shipping there, cutting off each island from the others and blocking supplies from reaching the battlefronts.
It is also stressed that Dra-pol is NOT a threat in this war, and no action should be taken against them... why open a new war in Korea when war is already consuming east Asia?

Beth Gellert: Seeing potential common ground, Spyran envoys attempt to travel to Beth Gellert, to speak to leaders and the populace about the 'counter-Revolutionary Bonstockian imperialists' and the need to open a united front against them which crosses the illusion of 'national boundaries'.
It is suggested that Beth Gellertan active involvement might include supporting Marimaian efforts in Malaysia, and perhaps opening a new front against the Bonstockians with landings on Sumatra.

OOC-Bonstock, you may need to take stock of your situation, though I have no problem with the fact that you can keep fighting, and no one here doubts your conviction, but you are in a very perilous situation. You are running the danger of a completely unified foreign nation all screaming for your blood.
The Quinntonian government is asking that you entertain the prospect of a conditional cease-fire in order that we can discuss peace.
You have treated my aid workers with repect in that you have not attacked them at all, though they are being used by the Hudecians as cover. I thank you for this, however you need to see that you are in a no-win situation.
I thank you for repealing your decision to charge for passage for most ships, I suggest that this is a good start, but that you need go a step further, your actions have been deplorable in this conflict, and you are starting to have your own allies turn on you, I ask that you turn back now, before you are forced into a situation of desparation.

A message is sent from Singapore. There shall be no peace until a total withdrawl of all Hudecian, LRR, Islandian, and allied forces from Bonstocknian territory. The Sakishimas are sovreign Bonstocknian territory, and should be treated as such. Continuing action against them will lead to further hostilities.

Islandian submarines are pulled back, and missiles are given abort codes as soon as the news are given. HOwever, some missiles are not self-destructed, and a few even crash into the base.

no big loss, since the Dra-poel are not regarded as a noble enemy.

Aboard Indigo Wave, Chu Soonmi commanding
Straits of Malacca

As the submarine cruised quietly beneath the surface, the control room was a bustle of activity. Soonmi, a five year veteran of Blue Group's Indian Ocean force, watched carefully as Bonstockian ships came into range on sonar.

"Status of Tidal Fury and the rest?" Soonmi asked.

"Holding to either side of us," communications reported. "Waiting for the signal."

Soonmi checked her watch. In twenty minutes, Aisho, commanded by Sung Hyunsoo, was to come around and fire several submarine simulators into the opposite direction, far away from the submarines. Hopefully, any escorts would pursue them, and the attackers, strung out in a line across the shallow ocean floor, would be able to attack and then hide in the valleys.

"Weapons, prepare for continuous fire," Soonmi ordered. "engines, ready emergency thrusters, and put caterpillars to full power. Range to target?"

"Extreme range for wire guided torpedoes," sonar reported.

"Any word from the others?"

"Tidal Fury has given weapons-free confirmation!" communications yelled.

"Fire forward tubes one through four," Soonmi ordered. "Full speed ahead."

With tensions in the region reaching an all time high, President Zhang confirms a rumour that had been circulating for a while now : A Sinoese subsidy to the ROC totalling a "tens of billions a year". The condition was that the sum was spent on defense as long as Chen was not in power. [OOC: Confirmed OOCly with him].

In extreme secrecy, a small buildup of military forces took place in the airbases. The ROCAF also mobilised partially. Officially, it was for the security of a visiting diplomat from China (which was actually staged by a Taiwanese agent). It was clear that something was going to happen soon.

In the early morning hours, just as the sun rises above Mikayo Jima, a battery of GRADLAR rocket launchers point skyward. D-30 howitzers and land-attack missiles from truck launchers also stand poised to fire.

"Three...two...one...FIRE!!"

Firing cords are pulled across the beachhead as the LRRA contingent, along with the EI contingent, bombards Bonstockian lines with everything it has. The LAR-160 MOD rockets, launched from BAT-Ms (DUKW copies), streak towards Bonstockian artillery emplacements as the D-30s and wide range of field MRLs pummel front lines.

Volgostani T-64 commanders shut up inside their turrets as their tanks begin to look foreward, the white pot leaf insignia painted onto the back of their autoloader. In back of the tanks comes platoons of infantry, dressed in a generic Soviet-Bloc greenish, sometimes with camoflauge smocks, and carrying a wide range of support weaponry, especially lighter (LR and MR) Spike launchers and RPG-7s.

Behind the Volgostani spearhead comes the amphibious-armored division and the two LRRA infantry divisions, traveling either on the back of light tanks or on foot.

All the while, the artillery continues a creeping barrage, which sometimes gets frighteningly close to the advancing tanks.

Local commanders quickly realize that the battle for Miyako Jima is all but won, and the divisions break into the rear areas, enveloping the flanks from the rear as more troops pour into the breech.

Since all LRR-registered merchant ships had been discouraged from using the strait of Malacca for some weeks, Bonstockian elements would find none to attack.

Unfortunatly, any advance towards the center is met with a fierce, concentrated bombardment of nearly 300 Smerch rocket launchers, and infantry dug into prepared bunkers built by the surviving engineers. The center line, which had moments before all but given way, rallies, just as was planned, and prevent any envelopment of the flanks with their Carl Gustav recoiless rifles and .50 caliber machine guns. From both flanks, 300 tanks followed each by 7,500 infantry descend on the hopefully weakened LRR flanks. With this, four Bonstocknian Draken battleships, escorted by six destroyers each, move of the beachhead. From a few miles off, two arsenal ships fire 600 hypersonic missiles each at the offshore fleets. With this, 200 LCACs go around from the other side of Miyako-jima, 100 on each side. They each land on the Hudecian and LRR beachhead, and unload a Leopard tank and 40 infantrymen each. Casualties among them soar as their confused battle ensues. Two Bonstocknian battleships take so much fire that they explode and sink to the bottom, along with 10 destroyers. 3,000 Bonstocknian marines are killed in the first few minutes, and 189 tanks are soon destroyed utterly. Five thousand infantrymen soon die as well.

The Commonwealth Final Senate, Portmeirion, Chattishgarh

“...so, despite comrade Cartismandua’s concern for her son’s art project, which we’re sure he can complete following resolution of the international crisis at hand, it is now agreed that the Soviet Militia Corps shall be turned-over to wartime schedule?”

The assembly was in sleepy agreement with Commonwealth Chief Consul comrade Chivo.

“And the Paratrooper and Marine Auxiliaries?” Said comrade Sopworth Igo, Hero of The Igovian Revolution, his voice suffering from so many hours debating in the Final Senate.

“Oh, yes, we’re agreed upon deployment authorisation?”

Again, quorum on the benches.

A few formalities were hurried through as Beddgelens thanked tired-looking Spyrians for their input, which had been generally hailed as pivotal and over-due in the Asian community, and the Senate broke-up for drinks or sleep or something.

Across The Commonwealths million or so square kilometres, the Igovian Soviet People’s Defence Forces were hastening their mobilisation. “The whole race... is madly fond of war, high-spirited and quick to battle... and on whatever pretext you stir them up, you will have them ready to face danger, even if they have nothing on their side but their own strength and courage.” So said Strabo of the Beddgelen forefathers, and though one could have been forgiven for wondering where that notion had gone in all the debating and quarrelling, with the democratic process satisfied the Beddgelens were indeed moving quickly.

The ISCBG boasts transit and communications infrastructure to rival any on earth, constructed by vast, evolved public works, and often surprises visitors by placing surprisingly little strain upon them. Private transport is an alien concept, and little disruption to civilian and commercial traffic is evident when the army takes to the roads and rails. Telecommunications facilities shift from working far below capacity –Beddgelens tend to wonder why one should use a mobile phone when he can just bellow until results are seen- to operating as would be considered fairly ordinary in other developed nations.

The High Seas Fleet 1st Battle Flotilla and 100th Assault Flotilla could be seen assembling in strength in the west of the Bay of Bengal, and Portmeirion was already sending reassurances to Liberation insisting that Andaman and Nicobar was not threatened.

Thirty-eight Batch 3 Bodkin and Gauntlet Class frigates were fanning out as were SSN Attack Squadrons Cronus and Oceanus, a dozen fleet and assault carriers, a pair of Gull Flag Class fire-support ships, and two huge Ysbyty Class hospital ships making ready to depart behind the screen. With them could be seen many of the Navy’s hundred and forty Benefactor Class ammunition ships, a good number of its near two-hundred Brompton Class support tankers, many Verix Class combat stores ships, huge Palemon Class heavy support ships, Restoration Class submarine tenders, and the near fifty-thousand ton empty-weight hulls of Hyena Class expeditionary transport ships. More than a hundred major hulls plus Rapier Class mine countermeasures vessels concentrated primarily between Porthmadog (Madras) and Port Edward (Jaffna) as a good half dozen Soviet Marine regiments shuffled into port with their vehicles, weapons, and equipment.

At eastern airbases, the Soviet People’s Air Force assembled scores of air superiority fighters, fighter-bombers, interceptors, reconnaissance planes, Morrigan UAVs, utility transport planes, aerial tankers, ASW planes, and airborne early-warning and command platforms re-deployed. Many were readied for transfer to waiting heavy transport ships in the Bay as aircrews caught up on news since they’d taken-off from bases further west. Some joked about what the residents of independent little Pondicherry must have made of the spectacle as their little state appeared surrounded by shifting men and metal. Others exchanged friendly jibes with members of the Igovian Soviet Militia who were moving the other way to cover borders and facilities stripped of their usual defence forces. The Militia hardly looked like a second-line force as it dusted-down its MT-3 Hotan battle tanks, of which it fielded about ten for every one exported to Dra-pol, and its towering part-time warriors strode off, shouting back with as good as the regulars gave them. Judging by the weight of manpower and fighting material, not to mention ballistic missiles expended by the Bonstockian reactionaries with their slightly smaller population and increasingly isolated economy, most observers judged even the Militia far better supported than the regular forces deployed by the imperialists to the east.

Far above, the People’s Kosmonautical Co-operative began their work of war in space above Beddgelert, and indeed the whole subcontinent and the western extent of the Bay of Bengal, the institution’s gaze fixed on any Bonstockian satellites found there. Tiny PKC micro-orbiters were to sneak-up on hostile satellites, whatever their announced purpose, attaching themselves to the Bonstockian articles before attacking their systems, blinding them by electronic means or, failing that, self-destructive explosion. If all went well, the sudden anti-satellite operations would blind the Bonstockians to anything after the first signs of naval build-up in the south-east. In Victoria and Salvador (Sri Lanka), as close to the Equator as The Commonwealth extended (for economical launching of orbiters), PKC launch sites were hardly less active than the military airbases and big ports just north, as missions prepared to place new anti-satellite weapons in orbit.

The keen pace with which the Beddgelens took to war meant that the decision to fight was just hours old, but the nature of this modern conflict meant that countless man hours would be needed to replace resources already expended.

Awaiting initial word on anti-satellite operations, the main weight of the Igovian Soviet Army twitched in its starting block before the beginning of its impending hop across the Bay at the Mouths of the Ganges and into Myanmar.

Via Spyrian, Marimaian, and Drapoel contacts, the Igovian Soviet Commonwealth expressed to the world its intent to join the multi-national coalition to permanently subdue Bonstockian imperialism, terrorism, jingoism and oppression, and urged the people of that nation to reject their corrupt and treacherous leadership.

Quinntonian Dra-pol
02-11-2004, 18:01
Prime Minister Jesse Obed released this statement to the press in Quinntonia on his way back home aboard Jesus-1, the Prime Minsters private plane.
"Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ. The rogue state Bonstock has been deemed guilty of war-crimes by The Council of Bishops. Though this administration has repeatedly condemned Bonstock, our pleas for peace have fallen on deaf ears.
At 11:00 this morning, Bonstockian submarines launched two guided torpedoes with explosive warheads into a Hudecian cargoe ship that was near the contested zone. It went down with all hands, including 16 members of its crew.
At 12:15, attacks were engaged on all fronts by Bonstockian submarines against all manner of civilian ships. This did include a Hudecian frieghter that was carrying 130 women and children, martyrs all, missionaries from the Holy State of North Dakota. They were heroes of the faith, members of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Minot on their third missionary journey.
The Lutheran Church Missourri Synod will be weakened by the passing of these tragic heroes, these martyrs, these fallen soldiers in the fight against the powers and principalities of this present darkness. But God, through His Holy Spirit will prevail!
The government of Quinntonia can no longer allow the rogue state of Bonstock continue its riegn of terror agianst the world. As Christians, follower of the Most High, we have a responsibility to encounter evil wherever it is found, and that means here.
I have met with my Minister of Defense, and he assures me that the Quinntonian Armed Forces are ready. I have issued FULL MOBILISATION ORDERS to all out troops. I have also called up the first section of our reserves.
I call on all of our allies, past, present and future to do the same. Evil is what happens when good men stand and do nothing. Martin Luther said at his faous Diet of Worms, "I am captive to my consciense and the will of God, HERE I STAND, I can do no less."
It is time, people of the cross, to stand. It is time to show our faith in that great way that Christ spoke about when he said, "there is no greater love than this, that man lay down his life for his friends."
I know that our great nation has suffered terribly at the hands of Dra-pol, but I must remind you all that Dra-pol and Bonstock are friendly towards eachother, and we cannot allow this AXIS OF EVIL to stand against the Truth any longer.
Bonstock, you are asked to back down, immediately call a cease-fire, and come to the table to talk. If not, it is the judgement of the Quinntonian people that you must be stopped, at whatever the cost.
Bonstock is hereby being issued a thirty day deadline in whic to come to its senses, if that deadline is not met, then a state of war will exist between us.

Here I stand, I can do no less. Brothers and sisters, people of Quinntonia, beloved bethren of the faith, please.......stand with me.........stand........with Jesus.

Bouyed by the Quinntonian declaration, the Marimaian Foreign Ministry goes into overtime, telling Singapore that a peace treaty is desired while also telling the ISCBG that both Myanmar and Marimaia are open for military deployment. As part of the deal struck between Suu Kyi and the MRC, Marimaia utilises transit links to transport more resistance fighters towards the Marimaia-Bonstock border.

Within Marimaia, the NeoSuunist propaganda machine begins calling on all Marimaians to do their national duty and serve the motherland. Reservists begin reporting to their designated bases for equipment issue and deployment orders, while regulars begin their wartime deployments. The air defence network is repaired and restocked after the Bonstockian missile attack on Taishita; the NeoSuun Guard also begin constant air patrols over the major cities.

People's Daily News reports the missile attack as an unsuccessful attempt on Premier Suun's life, and play up the injuries suffered by Tian in the blast. Scenes are broadcast from the zones of Taishita which were hit; the pictures of dead citizens and traumatised children have the desired effect as the Marimaian populace seethe at the 'vile acts of genocide attempted by Bonstock'. Premier Suun also makes an impassioned address, stating that if Bonstock does not accept peace terms then they shall be paid back in full for everything they have done. Enlistment increases dramatically as a result, and many old officers are forced back into active service to help train the sudden influx of recruits.

The Concerns donate billions of yenuans towards the reconstruction of Taishita, and also begin providing funds for use in the war effort.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the southern border, the Bonstockian forces around Had Yai were finally engaged by two mech.inf. divisions, a heavy armoured division and air support from both the 2nd Fleet in the Bay of Bengal and air bases in southern Marimaia.

Above the Gulf of Thailand, the air armada continued strafing with the 600 aircraft sent up initially to intercept them; Marimaian coastal long-range SAMs are brought on line, and begin tracking targets.

The Susanowas in the Gulf of Thailand proceed towards the air battle, and begin launching guided sea-to-air missiles against the Bonstockian aircraft.

Central Command also receives permission from Premier Suun to either launch missile attacks on Bonstockian soil, or to drop MariSat One on Singapore. Marimaia's more destructive arsenals also begin initial preparation checks.

Spyr
02-11-2004, 22:07
Bolstered by the massive increase of international involvement in the war against Bonstock, the Spyran President makes a televised speech to the nation... though its content implies that it is meant for the broader international community.

"The nation of Bonstock has proven itself to be an irresponsible, immoral, and utterly inhuman power. It stares out at Asia, drool dripping from its fanged maw as it dreams of devouring all Asian peoples while it contents itself with snacking on its own citizens, fattening them upon a diet of lies, deceptions, and falsehoods which transform their potential good into a platform for even greater evils. The counter-Revolutionary Bonstockian imperialist demon cannot be allowed to reach out its claws to grasp at Asia, cannot ever again be permitted to crush the innocent beneath its heaving, stinking bulk as it indulges in its most depraved and hideous perversions! When the wounded wolverine retreats to its mountain cave to lick its wounds, the hunter cannot let it rest and heal... it shall re-emerge and tear his children, his loved ones, limb from limb! So too, we cannot stop and sell the dead of Mergui for a handful of coins, we cannot stop and say 'We have done the minimum, and it is Good'. We must end this noble battle against oppression, this righteous fight against imperialism, this moral war against a slavering, rancid, monstrous beast! We must end it, and it must end in our VICTORY!

If you spoke to many... to the Burmese whose families fell at Mergui, to those brave men who died in the Japann War, they would call upon you to rend the putrid mass that is Bonstock into a thousand pieces. To burn them to ashes, to salt the ground upon which they lay, to encase them in lead and cast that lead into the depths of the void! Knowing what I know, I see merit in their words, and I feel compelled to follow them. But I am just one man, standing against a demon whose evil exceeds all mortal reckoning. To do what they would wish, to expunge that creature utterly, many would die... my people, the people of our friends and allies... the poor people crushed beneath the filthy mast of the Bonstockian beast itself, who would be shattered and beaten into the ground by the beast's death throes. My life, I could give. So many others, I cannot, will not ask to make such sacrifice when we might, together, find another path.

The beast must be declawed! We must reach down its throat and tear out its fangs! We must subdue its bulk, set it in chains, allow those trapped beneath it to clamber free and join us in celebration of our victory! And we must watch the beast, all eyes staring at it, pulling tight upon its leash should it ever seek to murmer, so that all the peoples of Asia, especially those once trapped within its domains, might dance and sing in peace and prosperity, united at last!

To chain such a beast, we must remove its claws, its fangs, its eyes, its limbs, we must leave it without any faculty that might be used to lash out at the world. We must deny it all apparatus of power projection!

We must ban them from posession of aircraft carriers! Of long-range bombers! Of cruise missiles and ICBMs! We must ban them from possession of ships capable of transporting military staff and equipment! We must ban them from posession of weapons, such as nuclear, biological, or chemical arms, that might serve to cause destruction on a massive scale! We must restrict their military spending, their troop numbers, their ship tonnage, to proportions of our own so that they could never stand in opposition to our moral efforts again! We must force them to reveal the Truth of their actions to their people, so that they might witness the extent of Bonstockian atrocities free of lies and illusions! We must obligate them to rebuild all that they have destroyed, to compensate for much of what has been lost due to their belligerence! We must ensure that their people are allowed to prosper in security and friendship with the rest of Asia, free of ultranationalist and imperialist falsehoods!

We must not pause, we must not falter, we must not hesitate, until the shadow of the abhorrent Bonstockian demon no longer falls upon Humanity."

-----------------------------------------

The speech has provoked some controversy within Spyr itself, as people debate its implications. To some, it seems to take a hard line against Bonstock, a call for total war and unconditional surrender. For others, it contains an opening for a limited war, a restriction of Bonstockian power-projection. Though the imagery resonates with the majority of Spyrans, there is concern that in condemning 'Bonstock' so harshly, outsiders might forget that Spyr sees itself in conflict with that nation's government, not its people, and that accomplishing what it calls for will be costly in both manpower and economic consequences. Activists for peace, mostly university students, register and stage demonstrations in favour of negotiation instead of military action... on the other side of the issue, other student groups see the speech as too soft, and call for the utter destruction of Bonstock. Though each group is relatively small, their have already been clashes between them, and at a riot in Sithin (when the groups had gathered to stage a debate), a student was hospitalized after being struck with a placard.

International affairs experts wonder if, in taking up such hardline rhetoric, Spyr may be putting itself too far ahead of its allies in the conflict, and may be unable to back down without losing face.

With any hostile satellites across the region suffering the effects of the sudden PKC attack and hopefully blinded to activity across India and much of the Bay of Bengal above which Igovian defences continued to orbit, the true deployments were under way. Just two Hyena Class expeditionary transport vessels delivered a thousand vehicles -including main battle tanks and battlefield-defence SAMs- and with them came the first screening elements of what would be a fleet three figures strong. Arriving in Myanmar, Marine General comrade Michael Malkstrom presents a fairly ordinary military figure, that is, compared to many of his comrades. An awful lot of Igovian women are seen in flight suits decorated with commendations won for shooting-down capitalists over Madagascar or plugging holes into Iansislian warships off Salvador, amongst other things. Nearby, an Indian man who has clearly tried to copy the gigantic flowing, thick moustaches of many of his Celtic comrades manages to spit-out an incredible number of words per minute as somebody too quickly swings a crane with an amphibious tank hanging off it. And all around, six and a half foot tall white men, hundreds of them with blonde hair past their shoulders, stumbled off ships dressed variously in camo-gear and body armour, kilts and capes, just the capes, billowing chequered trousers and maybe a saucy beret, or in a couple of cases just sandals. The Igovian Soviet Army provided each of its soldiers with more equipment than most squads would expect, which explained the expenditure two or three times above US levels with a military notably smaller, but actually using all of it was quite optional.

Marine General comrade Malkstrom presented himself and his comrades to local commanders on the west of Myanmar having given very little warning of his approach until already detected by the Marimaians.
He would convey to Marimaian over-all command the nature of Beddgelen commitment thus far, which constituted a Tank Brigade and a Mechanised Infantry Regiment comprised of Cavalry Sections. The cavalrymen didn’t ride horses, of course! No, Wombats were more their things. A very distant relative of the BMP series, these were supported by light tank versions, self-propelled anti-aircraft gun/missile systems and battlefield-defence SAMs, mortar vehicles, and of course the battle tanks of the Tank Brigade, reckoned by Igovians to be the best protected on earth. The comrade Marine General, though his men were famously boastful, admitted that Beddgelen commitment was likely to be inferior in manpower terms to those parties already engaged, and that its experience fighting in South East Asia was relatively limited. The initial Igovian force was prepared to back-up Marimaian operations howsoever was required, so long as Malkstrom remained in direct charge in the field.

They had stores enough to deploy at once, and were fully mechanised at more than eight thousand men and women strong. A relatively small force, but not a comrade amongst them would deny that they were sure of an Igovian soldier’s ability to physically dismantle their Bonstockian opposite. It would be easy to see that the formation was provided with a ratio of modern vehicles and heavy weapons compared to manpower that far surpassed anything that the far-flung enemy armies could hope to field. Malkstrom made it clear that –whatever he thought as a tactician- his warriors saw themselves as the tip of a spear, the sharp edge of any old blade one cared to hold to an enemy’s throat.

But even so, they were not special forces. A detachment of Gelert Sentinels was however en route to Myanmar aboard heavily escorted Marathon transport planes, and would arrive with weapons and equipment that they would be more than happy to lend for use by trustworthy partisans or simply fresh Marimaian volunteers. As was already evident, The Commonwealth produced a lot more than its little armed forces were apt to use at any one time.

Aircraft were being shipped at the same time in order to establish Beddgelen fighter and attack capability on the ground, and CS-400 Red Sky long-range SAM/ABM systems were also in transit and ready to be deployed to cover the areas immediately behind the front.

(Sorry if that became fractured, I was distracted repeatedly while trying to put it all together! Long story short; more than eight thousand mechanised troops arrive in Myanmar under command of Marine General, offer to support Marimaian operations wherever deemed necessary by Marimaian command. Special ops teams en route, prepared to commit to longer term training and arming of partisans or new volunteers, possibly even a new unit if fighting drags on for more than a few days or weeks. BG combat aircraft and SAM/ABM systems due to deploy within hours, wherever Marimaian military will accomodate it.)

As Marimaian forces begin their counterattack, Islandian troops are filtered to Marimaia via way of bases in China and Japan, taking land and air routes. The First Guards Assault Division, the Second Shock Division, and the Eighth Guards Assault Divisions arrive within a few days, followed by the Sixth Ghost Brigade and the First Pathet Cong Ranger Brigade.

All Islandian forces already in Burma are shifted to Marimaia to support operations, and all special forces soon find themselves preparing for raids behind enemy lines.

Meanwhile, in the Gulf of Thailand, Blue Group submarines are reinforced by inactive submarines from Gray and Green Groups, totaling to about thirty or so submarines in the region.

Six submarines have been lost to enemy aircraft and ships; four have been heavily damaged, and were rerouted to nearby bases in PRC China and operating areas on the Burmese coast. However, submarines are still out in force, and preying on enemy shipping and destroyers with a vengeance.

On Miyako Jima, casualties begin to mount as armored troops near the front; already, about eight hundred troops have fallen or have been wounded, but luckily due to the recent surplus of over-armored HMMVWs and IFVs, casualties have been light. Likewise, using the cover of night and particularly the new heartbeat sensors, fighting becomes a lot easier.

The two divisions currently ashore on Miyako Jima will find themselves reinforced by the Fifth Ghost Brigade, which has brought in considerable amounts of anti-armor and special forces troops with them, in order to take out artillery sites.

Seven ships have been sunk, and about fifty or so various planes have been shot down or disabled. The relatively small number of Islandian military forces involved in the operation have contributed to this, but it seems that casualties will step up once the war escalates further.

Submarines near the Sakishimas work overtime, bolstered by reinforcements from Green Group. Nearly two thousand torpedoes have been launched through the course of this battle, and many more will be launched as an additional twenty submarines enter the area, bringing the Sakishima detachment to about forty submarines in total, almost a quarter of the operational strength of the entire submarine force.

Three more battle groups (twelve ships each, and one aircraft carrier) enter the area, bringing much needed strike assets. Two strike groups from nearby PRC China are called up, and head towards the area.

Currently in the Sakishimas:

two hundred tanks
forty thousand troops
forty submarines
seventy assorted ships, mostly catamarans and cruisers, and five medium carriers and two light carriers
three hundred fighter planes from the surrounding area

OOC: Dra-pol, I think you're talking about attacking Boinstock Proper, because the rest of Bonstock has been more than decimated, Herald died in MC, Sino essintially wiped all the Bonstocky forces out of Maropian Coast. If you are, you should know that I won't stand by and watch this, as I did watch this RP, because I share a border with Bonstock. So, in essence, who the hell are you trying to negotiate with and for what terms, considering all of Bonstock's asian provinces have been taken.

Zecro, this is a closed RP, and you don't exist here.
You must be recognised by the Modern World RP Group in order to have a place.
If, by Bonstock proper, you mean the uber-multi billion nation, that doesn't exist either.

OOC: Then who the hell are you going to attack? Everything's pretty much blown up anyway. The leader of Bnostock has been killed, who are you going to negotiate with? Who's going to make descisions? Who's going to give a fuck about your peace demands when you've killed them all?

Also, I really don't want to get involved with RPing with the likes of you. You seem to bring more headaches than entertainment.

OOC: Eh? When was the last time Dra-pol said anything? Maybe you mean Quinntonian Dra-pol, which is, well, it's Quinntonian. It's not Drapoel Quinntonia, although Da'Khiem would enjoy your apparent recognition of its right to speak for QDP.

Anyway, I fail to understand the intended point of your post, since it was nothing that Bonstock couldn't have said for himself... if it even had any relation to what's actually going on, which it doesn't.

Your final qualifier is bizarre, but strangely welcome.

With most of the Heletai coast on the Sea of Japan closed, the Spearguard army machine turns its attention northward, towards the war torn state of Xiaguo. Regiment follows regiment as the troops put on alert to move against any hostile Helekaru warlords board military buses for transport to Kajomachi or trains for transport through Shi-daoken, both to reach the Xiannese border. The civil train transport system is shut down and passenger cars are filled with soldiers and equipment. The artillery guns on the military lines are brought out of their bunkers and attached to military transport, and are soon speeding down the tracks to Karak-Rhun.

Meanwhile, Spearguard troops already ordered south continue to cross the Ogawa river at Arentaka into the annexed plains between the Kar and the Ogawa estuaries.

The Yamani government releases statements urging other countries to support the Spyran President's suggestions and to not back down in the face of this dark imperialist shadow. Unfortunately, due to a dangerous situation in northern Xiaguo, we can bring no aid to the Allied cause.

Just remember, the imperialist will promise anything, and never deliver. Bonstock has lied and betrayed before, and never stays beaten for long. Destroy him utterly, cut off the dragons limbs that he might never bring pain to Asia again!

-Ottawa-

With accusations of 'cowardly actions' still ringing in the government's ears, the Deputy Prime Minister came before the Hudecian people to announce that the Hudecian officers who had committed actions 'contrary to the views of the Hudecian people' would be brought in and held accountable (OOC: don't count on it though).

Next, the Deputy Prime Minister Thabo declared that Hudecia would continue to fight on and promised that all actions would be taken to secure victory and freedom for the people of the Sakishimas, Maropian Coast, and all over asia are free of the tyranny of Bonstockian rule.

However, Hudecia is also willing to be merciful. A peace accord that brings about the end of Bonstockian claims to the Sakishimas and the Maropian Coast would be acceptable. Nevertheless, we are not willing to suffer another betrayal by Bonstock, hence Hudecia will not agree to a cease fire.

Preparations in Quinntonia are humming along, as reserves are reporting for duty, and weapons, ammo, and other needed supplies are being stockpiled.
Manditory WMD and nuclear attack drills are being practiced and local militias are being called upon to begin drilling and prepare to defend Christ.
The Quinntonian government again calls on all involved to think about coming to the table for a cease-fire, and plaed with their allies Hudecia to do the same.
Some of the more liberal elements within Quinntonia are protesting the seemingly unstoppable and probably destructive war that is on its way.

Prime Minister Jesse Obed is calling on the churches of Quinntonia to unite in support of their brave parishoners that are marching off to die, and is in constant negotiations with The Council of Bishops to support a united fund that will allow the churches to directly support soldiers and equiptment in the field with their finacial powers.

Half of the entire Atlantic fleet has been called into the Pacific, and the Pacific Fleet is mustering at Hawaii, with Las Angeles, San Franscisco close behind for ammounts, though they are mostly getting bogged down with massive amounts of troop transports as hundreds of thousands of Quinntonian lads are getting ready to be shipped out, giving those citeis the feel of a police state, soldiers everywhere.

"The beloved of Christ will never bow to the terrorism that is represented by the rogue state Bonstock, we are now several days into our ultimatem, and have heard only chest-thumping from the fractured Bonstockian leadership. The Quinntonian people are peaceful by naturr but we will.....we must stand against evil wherever it exists. God Bless You All."

Jesse Obed has also called a special session of Parliament to vote on the impending war, and that will meet next week.

OOC-I am kind of thinking that one RL day= ten NS days for the purposes of ultimatem.

(OOC: I have a question...if Lord Harald being dead means that we have no-one to negotiate with and no-one to put on trial, does that mean that Bonstock no longer has a working government? If that is the case, then either the Bonstockian military has taken over, which gives us someone to negotiate with and put on trial, or it's in anarchy.)

IC:

Marimaian Central Command begin coordinating with the newly-arrived Beddgelen and Islandian forces in an attempt to make a major move on northern Malaysia. The major objectives for the Marimaian-Beddgelen-Islandian operations are identified as the population centres of Kota Baharu, Pasir Puteh, Butterworth and Kuala Kerai; control of these four cities will provide an almost direct route to Kuala Lumpur. Secondary objectives are identified as the island of Pulau Pinang on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and the Natuna Islands in the South China Sea, east of Peninsular Malaysia. It is stressed to all parties that control of Peninsular Malaysia will allow easier access to the Bonstockian capital of Singapore. The officers in charge of the allied contingents are offered the choice of which objective they wish to pursue.

In Burma, Suu Kyi's government issued a request for all former military personnel, whether members of the MRC or merely those who put aside their arms at her urging, to report for active service. Though not all answer the call, a total of 90,000 former personnel report to either Burmese government offices or Marimaian administrative holdings. Marimaia spares what few senior officers it can for the command structure of the new 'Burmese Division', and Central Command requests the lease of Beddgelen weaponry for this new force.

Across Marimaia, the populace is spurred on by the NeoSuunist government to further war lust; cabinet members tour the nation, giving rousing speeches and invoking the memory of Mergui, Rangoon, and Taishita to whip the citizenry into motivated anti-Bonstockian sentiments.

Meanwhile, a third mech.inf. division arrives at the battlefield of Had Yai, and aircraft from the northern airbases begin redeployment to bring them into closer range of the border.

You are probably right, I am going to consider about a week so far, and see where it goes from there.
As for the government, that is a really good question, who is running the show, with Lord Harald gone, who is commanding the troops to fight?
Has the military taken over control of the government, if so, who is in command?

Line General Xu, commander of Islandianforces in Southeast Asia AO, opts to take Pulau Pinang and the Natuna Islands. To further this objective, Navy coastal operations units are brought in, totalling about a hundred small craft. An amphibious assault group arrives from PRC China, submarines in the area quickly wage war on any enemies in the nearby ocean areas.

MLRS batteries launch salvoes of missiles against nearby enemy positions, and troops saddle up, ready for the landing.

Assault cruisers begin to bombard the islands, and strike units begin day to day raids.

There are currently:

50,000 troops in South East Asia
100 small craft
twenty ships (two assault ships, five destroyers, five cruisers, six strike catamarans, two assault frigates)
forty submarines
200 assorted aircraft

With the Islandian reinforcements, the LRRA divisions and tattered remnants of the Volgostani division, having driven off the LCAC-borne troops and maintained the middle perimeter line from the counterattack, join in the next of the series of back-and-fourth counterattacks.

But the weight of numbers employed by allied forces on the islands appeared to be effecting final victory. LRRA field rocket launchers, totally alien to European armies, pound away at Bonstockian positions as the tanks and infantry advance., determined to finally capture Miyako Jima.

Here and there, they pass by burning hulks of T-64S1s and Leopards, but the Leopards appear to be more numerous than the potleaf-marked T-64S1s.
