Dear Commodore Tucker:

For various reasons, that your government is well aware of, we need a few ships. Specifically, we're interested in 2 of the Calypso class Dreadnaughts. Any chance that for an ally you'd agree to a 2 year installment arrangement on payments? We'd rather keep our budget trim as we are in the process of upgrading our airforce as well. BTW, the modified Pauster class medical ships we bought several years back are still in service and kicking butt.

Gen. Jack T. Ripper

If these terms are acceptable, please let us know. If we are entitled to a discount due to the size of our purchase, we would request that any discount be applied towards supplying ammunitions, shells, etc. for the battleships and carriers (not planes though, we've got that covered, just stuff for the guns, maybe a few missiles, etc.)

We are in the market for a ship that offers beach landing capability of M1 tanks. We would like something along the line of the old LST ships used in WWII, having a shallow draft and "drive thru" style open cargo hold. Thank you for your inquiry into the Gabin-class AKR and its tank carrying capabilities. The Gabin has a roll-on, roll off capacity; however, the class would require a port to deliver tanks since its draught is too low for the direct to shore operations you have inquired about.

We are in the process of studying an amphibious delivery vessel that would have the kind of shallow draught capability needed for such an operation and we will notify you once we have some preliminary designs in place.

Message to: Portland Ironworks of Sarzonia.
From: Izistani Naval Command.

Greetings, we have no locally produced design for a patrol boat and we have been searching for a proper foreign design.
Hence we wish to enquire about the production rights for the Dolphin class patrol craft.

My CO also wishes to enquire about the possibility of equipping a Tiger class gunboat with coilguns. Would this be possible? If so, we are interested.

Best Wishes,
Commmandant Harpson.

The Portland Iron Works is pleased to receive this inquiry from our Woodstock Pact allies in Izistan. The cost for production rights for the Dolphin-class comes to $1.6875 billion, including a 10 percent discount for Woodstock Pact members. We will transmit the information regarding construction requirements to you via secure data line and by heavily guarded messenger service.

We would have to contact the Imperial Praetonian Shipyards regarding equipping a Tiger-class gunboat with coilguns as you have suggested since the Tiger is a joint design by both PIW and IPS. We will contact them and we should respond to you shortly.

Thank you for contacting the Portland Iron Works for your naval needs. We hope to hear from you again in the future.

Commodore Tucker,

We are looking specifically for several ultra-large containerships (ULCS) with 12,500 TEU capacity or more. Additionally, we are needing tanker ships with 300,000+ DWT capacity. Consequently, we do not believe the ships you recommended would suit our purposes.

With that being said, we have secured the specifications for building a ULCS. If you are interested, perhaps there is a partnership opportuntiy with The Holy Empire of the United Apostates to build these large container and tanker commercial vessels.

Respectfully Yours,

The Portland Iron Works has received your order for two Vanguard-class heavy strike ships. We have some question regarding the intent of these ships and whom the ships are intended to be used against. We recall that while we were members of NATO, your government posed a threat to that body.

While we are no longer members of the New Alliance Treaty Organisation, we maintain close relationships with some of the countries still within that body. We can not confirm an order that would place any of our allies at risk. As a result, we believe you would understand if our government reviews its intelligence on your country before we make a decision.

Also, owing to the construction on a massive order, we estimate that it would take eight NS years [8 RL days] to complete two Vanguard-class vessels. If our government's review is in your favor and you are willing to accept the eight year time frame, we would be able to deliver the ships to you at that time.

Thank you for contacting the Portland Iron Works.

3 Shield Bearer-class light cruisers
6 Evermore-class destroyers

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PIW to commission new classes, retire older ships

PORTLAND (ASP) -- The Portland Iron Works is heralding what they say is the beginning of a new era in its long and prosperous history by announcing the first step in their reorganisation of the company. The company just commissioned two stealthy submarines, the Steadfast-class submarine capable of firing either ballistic missiles or guided missiles and the Navarre-class nuclear powered attack submarine. The company also announced the addition of the Victory-class Trimaran-hulled fleet carrier, which sources say might also be offered by the Imperial Praetonian Shipyards.

"We believe these three new classes speak to our ability as a company to adjust with the needs of our customers," former ISN Commodore Barbara Tucker, the company's managing director, said. "We are very excited about the possibilities these classes have for our navy and for our export customers."

The company announced that they were also retiring several older classes, including the first warship class ever designed by Sarzonians, the Alliance-class super cruiser. Tucker said the ships were being retired to make way for newer designs and were part of the company's intent to reorganise to form an "even tighter operation."

"We're not undertaking this because of any monetary struggles," Tucker said. "On the contrary, we're taking this on because we've been doing well. We just feel like it's time for better presentation of the Portland Iron Works product to our customers."

Sources are suggesting that the PIW might bring the Alliance back in a retooled version with the sturdy construction being given all new PIW ships, monohulled or Trimaran. The Randolph-class will most likely not return, Tucker said.

"If there's a groundswell of support for any of the classes we are retiring, we will consider unretiring them," she said. "The Wixted-class was briefly retired until one of our export customers talked us into bringing it back into service."

Tucker said the last Alliance-class supercruiser will roll off the assembly line in two NS years (2 RL days) and will be sold to Praetonia for its naval museum.

"The Alliance is a museum piece," a source within Praetonia's naval acquisition department said. "We wanted to have a piece of history."

RE: Greenmanbry-class Trimaran Battle Carrier

It has come to our attention that the Greenmanbry-class has been cleared through Portland's testing facilities, and is ready for production and possible export to the world's nations.

As per the deal Admiral Neitsvy struck with the Portland Iron Works several years ago, we are officially putting in a massive order for fourteen (14) of these beasts. Also in the deal was the expansion of Greenmanbry's docks and facilities to accomodate these vessels at a cost of sixty billion dollars per dock.

Although the original number of docks to be expanded was sixteen, we request that four docks in Greenmanbry's newly-acquired Lebanon be expanded to accomodate these vessels, bringing the total number of docks up to twenty from the previous sixteen.

The value of this contract is -- $ 2,026,000,000,000

The payments will be made, in full, to the Portland Iron Works, in ten annual installments of - $ 202,600,000,000 - each. Please advise as to whether this payment plan is acceptable.

Thank you for your time.

He gave this short speech at the recent National Defence meeting:

" Ladies and Gentlemen, i must make an announcement of a massive scale, something that shall change the course of navy, bringing our nation's navy in line with some of the best navies around the world.

Our recent Purchase from Portland Iron Works Naval Department has made our navy extremely powerful, although operating costs are high, KDX, being an island, must be able to defend itself.

That is why, upon the direct advise from our highest naval experts i have, upon full government support, given permission to order a full fleet, with over 250 Ships, from the great Sarzonia. Our order shall take a large sum from our naval Budget, however, this is neccessary, to stay at the top of ALL nations of our size in naval power, and to ensure our navy is equiped fully for many decades.

The cost is, a total of $315 billion, all of which shall be paid partly from unspent military money from years past, with growth from interest in our national bank, and hopefully, with an extensive yearly pay package.

You shall be told when we have received confirmation of what shall happen to this order and to the future of our navy. Thankyou. "

Zeppelin-class BBGN (PIW model)
Notes
Weapons systems
GWLS.33 is comparable to the Mk.41-Tactical VLS, the GWLS.35 to the Mk.41-Strike VLS. The GWLS.65 may be replaced by RAM missile launchers. The GWLS.66M2 are four-cell automatic-operation-capable (AOC) very short range air defence (VSHORAD) missile launchers, which fire Sarzonian Yellow Jacket missiles. The NLG-30 is a single-crew served 30mm autocannon. The GWLS.39 may fire Isselmere-Nielander Pelican anti-ship missile. The GWLS.60 fires Isselmere-Nielander Eel surface-launched underwater warfare rockets. The GWLS.58M2 fires the Sarzonian Scourge anti-ship missile or the Isselmere-Nielander Hurricane anti-ship missile, Lanneret theatre-area air defence (THAAD) missile, and Orca anti-submarine missile. The GWLS.58M2 may be replaced with a Sarzonian Scorcher missile launcher on a 2/3 basis (i.e. a 48-cell GWLS.58M2 may be replaced by a 32-cell Scorcher missile complex). The RST are retractable submerged turrets, each with a 20mm supercavitating round (SCR) firing cannon. It is inadvisable to deploy the RST at speeds above 12 knots.

All guns on the Sarzonian version are produced by the Incorporated Ordnance Company.

Sensors
The Huginn multifunction radar is a dual-mode (active transmitter and passive receiver) radar , operating primarily in the X-band. The Kafka volume air search radar operates in the S-band. The hull-mounted sonar (Fenris) is a low frequency dual mode digital sonar emitting preformed beams providing panoramic echo ranging and imaging and passive surveillance.

On the Sarzonian model, the electronic countermeasures and surveillance suite is replaced by the AN/SLY-2(V) Advanced Integrated Electronic Warfare System (AIEWS), the radars by the AN/SPY-4 MFR and AN/SPN-23 navigational radars, the sonars by the AN/SQR-6(B) passive towed array and the AN/SQS-57 dual-mode hull-mounted digital sonar array emitting a preformed beam providing panoramic echo ranging and panoramic (DIMUS) passive surveillance.

Countermeasures
The MLE.140 MUSE countermeasure launcher fires rockets that deploy chaff and smoke against enemy missiles and other devices to divert missiles or disrupt targeting.

On the Sarzonian model, the MLQ.135 Mackerel anti-torpedo decoy is replaced by the AN/SLQ-25 Nixie.

Characteristics
Displacement: 268,942t (deep)
Dimensions: length 443.8m (oa); beam 57.28m; draught 13.68m.
Propulsion: 14-propulsor CONAG-IFEP; 4 pressurised water fission reactors (INNEC RA(PW)-10) and 4 gas turbines (IMW MTG-6), with 2 auxiliary diesel generators (IMW MED-31); 1GW + 128MW = 32.8+ kts.
Crew: 2,862 (2,624 peacetime; + vehicle crew, marines (143), staff (60)); can accommodate 3,600
Armour (RSIN model): layered composite of steel alloy (case-hardened nickel and molybdenum alloy), ballistic ceramics, and ballistic polymers (nylon outer shell with polymer ‘fabrics’ for anti-spall protection), spaced with certain void spaces filled with fire-resistant ballistics dampening foam. Key locations (turrets, magazines, landing deck, conning tower [CT] and command information centre [CIC], and NBC citadels) protected by an additional layer of titanium alloy. Deck armour angled at 30-degrees under main deck of steel alloy-ballistic polymer composite. Hardened crossbeams provide additional bulkhead protection.
Protection: (Main belt) 76.2-86.36cm; (Main turrets): 86.36m (face)-66cm (back); (Main barbettes): 86.36cm; (Secondary barbettes): 15.5cm; (Main missile magazines): 40.6cm; (Hangar): 40.6cm; (Deck (key spaces)): 50.8cm; (Conning tower, CIC): 91.44cm; (Bulkheads): 13cm. PIW-built model uses a more advanced composite armour scheme consisting of a titanium-steel alloy laminate, with ballistic ceramics and polymer plates and fabrics protecting key areas.

Geez, ever since I started NS, I've started using YIM, MSN, IRC, and created a NS-only AIM account that gets more IMs than I ever do on my "regular" AIM... Sounds like I need to bring my 12 step programme thread back up from the dead. ;)
