Portland Iron Works naval storefront
Sarzonia

[OOC: Please do a bit of roleplay, even if it's "my navy would like to order." Thanks. Also, all prices are in U.S. dollars. In addition, please do your own math.
Before I approve/deny an order, I check ThirdGeek (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/) to see if your country has the money in your budget. I presume a budgetary limit of one third of your total defense budget before I decide to approve/deny an order. I would prefer that you propose a payment plan when you order if you don't have enough money in your budget to cover what you want to spend, but if you make an effort at realism, I will work to accomodate you.
Since ThirdGeek does not work with countries in regions of 100-plus nations, I use Thrace-Tailteann (http://members.fortunecity.com/thracetailteann/html/gnp.html). If you use a different calculator, please notify me ahead of time.]
The Portland Iron Works was established to provide a military storefront presence for the Incorporated States of Sarzonia. Our goal is to provide you with the best protected and highest quality ships on the oceans today. You may also check out our satellite location at the International Mall (http://s6.invisionfree.com/International_Mall/index.php?showforum=123)!
Since our humble beginnings with four available ship types and no unique weapons systems, we have undergone tremendous growth recently. With our recent acquisition of the Wilmington Shipyard Corporation, we now offer well over 50 individual ship classes and several naval packages to serve our customers more effectively. In addition, we now have weapons sytems for sale. Included among those weapons systems are two torpedoes and a SAM of Sarzonian design. From fleet carriers to superdreadnaughts, supercruisers to support vessels to weapons systems, we have an offering for you.
If you would like to purchase production rights to any ships or weapons systems, please sign this contract (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=6698843&postcount=13). [OOC: Essentially, a post or a TG indicating that you agree to the contract as written will suffice as "signing" it. If you want to negotiate terms, please TG me or post on this thread. Thanks.]
If you would like to equip your aircraft carriers with aircraft, feel free to contact our sister company, Avalon Aerospace Corporation (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=365142). Prices for our aircraft carriers and naval packages that include aircraft carriers do not include aircraft, though we can accomodate you with fighters from Avalon if you choose.

The Normandy-class heavy combat transport ship is designed with two aims in mind. One, to deliver troops as safely and efficently as possible. Toward that end, it is protected by a composite armour scheme that allows for excellent survivability. In addition, hardened crossbeams along the bulkheads and a shock-hardened structure make this one of the most survivable ships in the ISN.
Secondly, this ship can also provide surface bombardment with its 11 inch gun and its 250 mm mortar. It includes several weapons systems to ensure that it can not only take a licking, but deliver one as well.
[OOC: I used the San Antonio-class as a rough guide for designing this. It has some of the features mentioned (namely the shock-hardened structure and nuclear blast protection) and the cargo holds actually carry more, but I made up for that with allowances for weapons since this is intended to be able to support offensive operations as well as defend itself from attack.]

GWS.41.2 Loon anti-submarine missile (http://www.worldweapon.narod.ru/image/shema3m51.jpg) [fig. 2] (http://www.mbda.net/test_phototheque/photos/milas_2.jpg)
Figure 1 illustrates an early preproduction version, whereas figure 2 is an early production model.
The "Loon" is an anti-submarine missile that can be launched either from surface ships or submarines. It carries 200-350kg lightweight (i.e. 324mm) torpedo to the last noted position of the target before releasing its payload.
The weight of the launch vehicle, with booster but without the torpedo, is about 500kg (497.94kg; 376.71kg without booster). With an MU 90 torpedo, the Loon can attain a range of up to 60km, with an initial speed (ballistic phase) of up to Mach 2.25. The launch vehicle can be continuously updated by the firing vessel while in flight. Once the booster engine has been detached, the Loon cruises to the target using a high efficiency turbojet engine at trans-sonic (high subsonic) speed. Above the target, the launch vehicle releases the payload, which then parachutes into the water and proceeds to seek its foe.
The Loon can be launched by a ship equipped with a Mk.41 VLS, or a ship or submarine able to fire a Tomahawk missile.
Characteristics (with MU 90 as payload)
Dimensions: length: 5.25m (without booster), 5.7m (with booster), 6.25m (submarine launch canister); diameter: 464mm (pre-launch); 533mm (stabilising fins, submarine launch canister); 1.624m (wings of launch vehicle extended)
Mass: 680.71kg (without booster), 801.94kg (with booster), 948.68kg (submarine launch canister).
Range: 75km
Speed: Mach 2.25 (ballistic phase); Mach 0.6-0.85 (transitional); ~50kts (terminal velocity of MU 90 torpedo)
Price (without torpedo): $375,000 per unit (VL version), $385,000 (submarine launch canister).

GWS.47 Robin small diameter bomb (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/munitions/images/smalbomb.jpg)
The GWS.41 "Robin" is a small diameter bomb designed to penetrate deep targets with precision, power, and the absolute minimum weight. Measuring only 1.83 metres in length and 15.24 centimetres in diameter, this 115 kg device can crack through two metres of reinforced concrete with its armour piercing steel casing, something which required 908 kg bombs previously.
Using its anti-jam GPS targetting system, the "Robin" can correct its attack autonomously once dropped. The "Robin" may be dropped as far away as 24 km from the target with a minute circular error probable (CEP; i.e. potential miss radius) of three metres, or twenty-six metres CEP if only the small three-axis laser INS is operable.
Characteristics
Dimensions: length: 1.83 m; diameter: 15.24 cm
Mass: 115 kg
Warhead: 22.7 kg in armour-piercing steel casing
Range: (maximum launch range, altitude dependent) 25 km

GWS.50 Pigeon anti-radar and autonomous attack weapon (http://www.lockheedmartin.com/data/assets/4552.jpg)
Test model. (http://www.astronautix.com/graphics/t/tacitrai.jpg)
The "Pigeon" is a small, lightweight UAV designed primarily for single-use search-and-destroy missions.
The "Pigeon" possesses lightweight electro-optical sensors (light-intensification and infra-red) and an advanced passive radar/signals receiver and initial processor (radar warning (RW) and direction-finding (DF)) to identify its prey. An identification friend or foe (IFF) aerial runs along the belly of the drone to avoid attacking friendlies, while the secure Link 17G data link ensures that a human can be kept in the loop just in case.
Should no enemy signals be detected within the pre-programmed zone of attack or interest, the "Pigeon" can loiter. The area of interest can be altered in flight either by a control station or by the drone itself if it should pick up enemy signals within its range. (The "Pigeon" can estimate the fuel required to reach a target using a mote.)
Characteristics
Functions: real-time reconnaissance and attack aerial vehicle
Dimensions: length: 2.31m; diameter: 0.275m (housed); wingspan: 0.82m (deployed)
Mass: 188 kg (total), 20 kg warhead
Propulsion: turbofan
Range: maximum (no return): 450 km+; combat (full speed, no return): 120 km+

GWS.52 Pelican anti-ship missile (http://homepage.eircom.net/~steven/images/noranti.jpg)
The GWS.52 "Pelican" was developed by Lyme and Martens Industries to replace the GWS.39.3 "Jewel" (Yakhont-3) in domestic service.
The "Pelican," like the "Pigeon" is really a one-way drone with many advanced features allowing it to evade most missile defences as it approaches its targets. Like its siblings the "Rook" and the "Tern," the "Pelican" possesses an effective autonomous operation situational awareness module (AOSAM) permitting the missile to alter its flight characteristics and use its minute radar cross-section and small infra-red signature as well as active jamming (ECM) to counter enemy threats as well as to respond to countermeasures (ECCM), thus giving the "Pelican" a greater probability of successful strikes.
Like the GWS.39.3, the GWS.52 can work individually but is even deadlier in flocks. With its Link 17.2G secure data link, the lead "Pelican" operating at altitude can communicate with the other missiles in the flock to assign and prosecute targets ensuring a wider range of strikes against enemy ships. With this data link connection, the "Pelican" can receive targetting information from dedicated reconnaissance satellites, aerial vehicles providing over-the-horizon guidance, or from the firing vehicle. With this information, the GWS.52 can prosecute an enemy from various angles, regulating its thrust to ensure either a staggered or unique arrival time in the target zone. Furthermore, the data link permits attacks to be performed in conjunction with other combat drones, such as the "Puffin" or the "Rook," to minimise probability of intercept. For instance, the "Puffin" or "Rook" can use its search radar to illuminate the enemy fleet allowing the entire flock of "Pelicans" to remain below the enemy radar. Also, "Pelicans" and "Pigeons" can engage in a combined assault against a hostile fleet: the "Pigeons" eliminate the enemy's air defences while the "Pelicans" advance towards their targets.
Adding to the small EM signature of the "Pelican" is its ability to use either its small low-probability of intercept (LPI) radar or imaging infra-red sensors to home in on a specific target without revealing its presence.
When air launched from high altitude (10-15 km), the "Pelican" may initially proceed to target at 10-12 km altitude until its radar warning receivers begin detecting hostile emissions. The "Pelican" then descends to between 20 m and 5 m, or lower if sea states permit, and accelerates towards its targets. From about 50 km away, one missile (if in a flock) ascends to acquire targets and transmits this data to the other missiles as it descends. This hi-lo profile and the "Pelican's" supercruise turbo-ramjet engine allows a maximum range of 560 km. When either air launched from low altitude, or surface or submarine launched, the "Pelican" may opt for a lo-hi-lo attack profile, allowing attacks from as far away as 325 km. The "Pelican" may also perform a direct lo-lo assault. Using supercruise, the GWS.52 can prosecute targets from over 240 km distant, while operating at full speed (Mach 3+) the "Pelican" can travel up to 175 km to its prey.
All in all, the GWS.52 offers a great advance in the field of modern naval superiority.

GWS.57 Erne surface-to-air missile (http://www.eurosam.com/blocks/images/AS30%20V.jpg)
A replacement for the SM-2.IIIB and Aster-30 missiles currently in service with several navies, the "Erne" uses existing technologies to create an extremely agile and fast missile capable of defeating the most dangerous foes equipped with scramjet technology. The mixture of sensors on the GWS.57 as well as its inertial or command midcourse guidance (updated via secure datalink) ensure that the "Erne" is very resistant to ECM or other countermeasures. Lastly, its well-proven flight control systems, with thrust-vectoring granting high maneuvrability up to 12 Gs and the PIF-PAF (Pilotage en Force - Pilotage Aerodynamique Fort) reaction control enabling maneuvres of up to 60 Gs, ensure that even the most pesky of foes is easily swatted from your skies.

SarzTorp lightweight ASW torpedo
This lightweight torpedo is able to be deployed in littoral warfare and in deep water operations, by frigates or corvettes, ASW helicopters, and fixed wing aircraft intended to provide ASW support.
The SarzTorp replaces torpedos such as the Mk 46 Mod 1 and Mk 46 Mod 5A(SW) torpedoes in service in some navies. Several PIW-built ships in the Sarzonian navy have already been designed to carry this torpedo, while several others will be refit at various junctures to allow them to carry the torpedo. RSIN-built ships that are designed to carry the Loon ASW missile can also carry the SarzTorp, another advantage to the weapon's design.

GWS.58 Hurricane multi-purpose SAM
The GWS.58 "Hurricane" was developed by Lyme and Martens Industries for service on the Port-class cruise missile submarines as a very long-range anti-ship/surface attack missile.
The GWS.58 consists of three stages: the booster stage; the scramjet stage, and; the terminal stage powered by a turbo-ramjet. On a standard attack mission, the booster stage lifts the “Hurricane” to an altitude and speed at which the scramjet can engage. Once the scramjet stage exhausts its fuel, the missile glides to attack height and speed before igniting the turbo-ramjet. The “Hurricane” then proceeds towards its target.
The “Hurricane” is equipped with a version of the “Pelican’s” AOSAM modified for hypersonic flight. The AOSAM permits the “Hurricane” to select the best course towards the target while minimising the missile’s presence to enemy systems. The “Hurricane” can engage in direct hypersonic strikes against targets (up to 400 km) or may engage in more subtle, stealthy approaches using the terminal stage’s turbo-ramjet. The terminal stage possesses all of the superb counter-measures of the successful “Pelican” missile and is almost as manoeuvrable.
Like the GWS.52 “Pelican”, the GWS.58 can operate either individually or in flocks. Targeting information can be continuously updated both among other missiles in the flock or by satellite or ship through secure channels.
The terminal stage of the GWS.58 uses a LPI radar to guide the “Hurricane” towards its target, although it may be guided by GPS as well. Purely hypersonic attacks are often conducted purely under GPS guidance.
Characteristics
Function: hypersonic/supersonic cruise multi-purpose surface attack missile
Launch Angle: vertical to fifteen degrees from the horizontal, with 360 degree initial acquisition capability
Dimensions: length (surface launched version): 8.92m; diameter: 0.8m (in launch capsule), 1.02m (fins deployed); wingspan: 2.34m (deployed)

Range: 53,210 yds at 40 knots; 41,020 yds at 55 knots.
Propulsion: air turbine pump discharge system; liquid fueled swash plate engine with pumpjet propulsor
Speed: 55 knots
Cost: $3.25 million
This torpedo is a devastating weapon in the hands of a submarine for ASW and anti-ship warfare. With depth and power, this torpedo is the bane of existence for many surface ships and submarines. Its wire guidance systems allow it to acquire targets from 1,500 yards away and it is very capable of avoiding countermeasures.
[OOC: This is based on the Mark 48 torpedoes in service in the U.S. Navy, in particular the later versions that have improved strengths against countermeasure and have been fired under Arctic icecaps.]

'Scorcher' surface-to-surface missile
At the request of the Incorporated Sarzonian Navy, the Portland Iron Works and Windham & Green Defense Industries have developed a new surface-to-surface missile of Sarzonian design for use in the new Johnston-class AA destroyer currently in development by PIW.
The ISN's requirements for the missile include supersonic speed, high payload, and optimal effectiveness for deployment against most monohulled ships. The 'Scorcher' SSM fits these requirements to a 'T.' With its high speed and its long range, it is capable of destroying monohulled ships as large as fleet carriers. Like the missile on which this is based, the 'Scorcher' uses an abrupt pop-up maneuver upon its terminal approach to throw off anti-missile defenses.
The 'Scorcher' missile will enter service with the ISN upon the commissioning of the ISS Johnston, the name ship of the new class of AA destroyer. Upon its entry into service, the Portland Iron Works will offer it for sale alongside its other weapons systems. All sales of the 'Scorcher' will be subject to a background check into the prospective purchaser. In addition, production rights will only be granted to most favoured and trusted nations.
SPECIFICATIONS
Warhead: 825 lb conventional or 225 kiloton nuclear
Range: 95 miles
Wing Span: 6.85 feet
Diameter: 2.5 feet
Length: 32.1 feet
Weight: 10,210 pounds
Engine: Integrated Rocket Booster Ramjet Sustainer
Guidance: Active Radar and LADAR-capable Homing Sea Skimmer
Speed: Mach 2.625 at sea level
[OOC: Based on the 'Sunburn' missile used by the Russian navy.]
----
'Scourge' anti-ship missile
This is designed as an anti-heavy ship missile. It wouldn't be used for destroyers and frigates, but for navies that are looking for a weapon to counter some of the large battleships and carriers in the world today, this is your weapon.

We can't afford it... can we?
As the newly-edited intro post indicates, I use one of two economic calculators to determine whether your nation has the funds to purchase any ships from the Portland Iron Works. The best one in my opinion is ThirdGeek (http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/), since it includes details about the economic situation in your country that are lacking in other calculators. It has a listing of major line items in your nation's budget and percentage breakdowns for each.
Of course, the one I examine first is your country's defense budget. Usually, I can tell right away if your country could conceiveably afford to purchase what you've ordered. For instance, if a country has a $5 trillion defense budget and you order one Multi Role Naval Fleet, there's a good chance that you can afford what you're ordering from the PIW. If your country has a $50 million defense budget and you order a Calypso-class superdreadnaught, you can't afford it and I'll have to deny the order.
Beyond those extreme examples, there is a gray area that comes about when you make a purchase that's roughly 30 percent of your defense budget. I use a figure of 33 percent of your total defense budget when I make a determination whether or not you can afford your order. It's true that some countries spend significantly more on one branch of the military than they do on others. It wouldn't make sense for a landlocked country to build a navy, for instance. That's where you come in. Number one, you should realize that spending your entire defense budget on purchases is a very bad idea. Besides the hulls themselves, you have to take several factors into account. You have to consider fuel, maintenance, repair, and simple operating costs for each ship, and that's not even taking paying for crews, their uniforms, their food, etc. Isselmere's storefront (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=361894) has a great guide (http://forums2.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=7151333&postcount=2) to the economics of maintaining a navy.
Now, the reason I say it's a gray area is that I've seen storefront owners be a bit more lax about this than I suggested in the previous paragraph. Many RPers get into a habit of assuming that you have the logistics already in place and don't need to spend valuable space in a post writing about tankers and supply convoys. Also, storefront owners could conceiveably check to see if you've made orders in other similar storefronts before making a decision on whether or not to confirm you order. I do every once in a while, but unless you've placed two massive orders in the same RL day, I'm pretty lenient about confirming those orders.
I have other preferences that are not make or break issues, namely that you post a request for a payment arrangement ahead of time and that you do your own math. I have taken my cue from Praetonia's storefront (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=332455) when it comes to making payment arrangements for countries that can't afford their orders. Isselmere is more strict about it and more inclined to deny orders that exceed your national budget (he denied my first order!). If you make a concerted effort toward realism, I'm willing to offer you a payment schedule even if you haven't done so. If your request is unrealistic (such as 10 General Purpose Fleets for a 5 million population country or a larger country with an imploded economy), I'll deny those out right.
All of the above shouldn't be seen as hard and fast, dictatorial rules. They should be seen as guidelines toward the economics behind the Portland Iron Works. Remember that I reserve the right to perform a background check on your country for any purchase, particularly for the superdreadnaughts or the larger naval packages. I also reserve the right to refuse for non-economic considerations (such as but not limited to players I ignore or countries that are hostile to me or to an ally).
Happy shopping!

OOC post following:
I included brief mentions of some of the RL ships that the ships available in this storefront. The idea behind my doing that was to give you a real basis for comparison among the ships out there. In some cases, I made tweaks in the stats to make the ship more uniquely mine. In other cases, I attempted to address what I considered to be flaws in the design of the ships.
When I come up with a design that is relatively unique (for instance, one that does not have a RL ship as its basis or one that is "loosely" based on a RL ship), I also try to come up with disadvantages that are realistic. For instance, the Volunteer is well-armoured and has heavy guns. It's basically a Yamato-class with four triple turrets of 18.1 inch guns instead of three triple turrets. It also operates on nuclear fuel and is intended to have more modern systems than the Yamato had. However, I only increased the speed in comparsion to the RL ship by two knots and I increased the draught of the ship to make it relatively difficult to maneuver.
For the Evermore-class (nee Kashmir-class), I wanted to make the ship well-armed and well-armoured compared to most other destroyers, so I added armour and additional weapons to a later Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. However, to make the design more realistic, I lowered the speed so the ship is probably one of the slower ships of its class.
Here's a brief rundown of the ships in this storefront with their RL equivalents, if appropriate:
Calypso-class dreadnaught
This is not based on a RL ship. It's a ship that's intended to be our answer to a Doujin-class ship, though its armament is more equivalent to a Thunderchild-class except for the railgun.
Vanguard-class heavy strike ship
Again, this is not based on a RL ship. In comparison to the superdreadnaughts of the world (such as the infamous Doujin-class, it would be equivalent to a battlecruiser. It is not designed to engage a Doujin, but it can project power nearly as effectively.
Freedom-class pocket dreadnaught
Again, not based on a RL ship, but extends the principles behind the Alaska-class or the Scharnhorst-class to Trimarian-hulled dreadnaughts. The export version carries nine 30" guns and several rail gun mounts to make it a dangerous ship.
Casterbridge-class Trimaran supercruiser
Another ship that is a takeoff on the principles of the pocket battleship brought into the world of the Trimaran behemoths, this ship is intended to serve as a relatively cost-effective alternative to superdreadnaughts. The kinetic-reducing ceramic plates provide limited protection against a tungsten rod attack.
Nanticoke-class heavy carrier
Not based on a particular RL ship, but it's probably fairly close to a souped-up rendition of the later versions of the Nimitz. I used my own Forrest-class carrier as the basis for this ship design.
Resolute-class guided missile battleship
Again, not based on a particular RL ship and again, based on a previous PIW design (the Volunteer.) This ship is somewhat along the lines of a proposed super Yamato with six 20 inch guns. This design incorporates some of the weapons systems jointly sold by PIW and the RSIN Corporation.
Volunteer-class battleship
Based on the Yamato-class, as mentioned above, but significantly greater displacement. Also, I added a fourth turret of 18.1" guns.
Forrest-class fleet carriers
Based on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Slight changes in statistics.
Nelson-class light carriers
Based loosely on the Charles de Gaulle-class light carriers built by the French navy, but I increased displacement significantly and placed greater emphasis on armour.
Swiftsure-class Trimaran light carrier
Based somewhat loosely on the DeGaulle and the future aircraft carrier for the United Kingdom's navy, this ship is designed to be a more survivable platform for quick deployment of aircraft.
McVie-class light/quick strike carriers
Based on the Italian Cavour-class aircraft carrier launched in July of this year with slightly more armour and designed to carry fixed wing aircraft.
Sea-class guided missile battlecruiser
I'm not sure which ship this is based on, to be honest. I was basing some of the specifications I suggested on a guided missile version of the Truxtun. This is somewhat of an upgrade of both the Praeton and the Truxtun to account for guided missile launches.
Truxtun-class battlecruiser
Based on the original concept behind the Lexington-class battlecruisers, of which only two were completed after being converted to aircraft carriers. Instead of the later design with eight 16 inch guns, I kept the original weapons configuration of nine 14 inch guns.
Alliance-class supercruiser
Based directly on the Alaska-class, but is also very similar to the German Scharnhorst-class.
Randolph-class heavy cruiser
Based loosely on the Baltimore-class heavy cruisers used by the U.S. Navy, those ships were often considered the one class to get the concept right. I actually downshifted the stats from an Alaska-class and increased the gun armament to nine inch guns from the eight inch guns used by most heavy cruisers.
Ithaca-class light cruiser
Based on the Cleveland-class light cruisers that were described as being heavy cruisers in all but armament, I removed one of the triple turrets of six inch guns and made slight modifications to the displacement and armour. I used this class because of its survivabily IRL. The USS Houston survived two torpedo attacks, including one when it was under tow from the first such attack.
Evermore-class destroyer
Based on the Arleigh Burke Flight IIA, but with slightly larger displacement and greater armour. Also, I used two nuclear reactors instead of six diesel turbines. Because of the increased armour, I reduced the top speed of the Evermore to account for the greater weight. I also added some additional armaments to try to make it one of the most heavily armed destroyers out there, though that may still be a work in progress.
Wixted-class stealth frigate
Based on the La Fayette-class stealth frigates in the French navy. I increased the side sloping slightly to reduce radar signature further.
Seminole-class corvette
The Seminole-class is based on the Eliat-class Sa'ar 5 corvettes built by the Israeli navy. The RL ships are known for their stealth abilities.
Tiger-class railgun-armed gunboats
Not based on a RL design. These ships are designed with their primary armament being railguns as a coastal defense weapon against Doujin-equivalents. The idea is based somewhat on the idea behind the gunboats President Thomas Jefferson ordered for coastal defense.
Octopus-class patrol vessel
Based on the Danish Flyvefisken-class patrol vessels that are known for their versatility. I increased the crew compliment and the tonnage slightly.
Piranha-class missile boat
Based on the Ambassador III-class. Slight changes in stats.
Ossipee-class special operations vessel[/b]
Based on two different classes of special operations vessels in service in the U.S. Navy, the Mk 5 Pegasus-class and the patrol boat Riverine. The rigid inflatable boats and the combat rubber raiding craft are actual designs in the U.S. Navy, though I played around with the stats a bit.
Stalwart-class SSBN
This class was originally intended as a hybrid SSBN-SSN but the challenges of creating a boat that could handle both functions resulted in the creation of separate designs. The name Stalwart was retained for the class of SSBNs. I don't remember which classes I used to base these boats on, but I think they were the Vanguard-class (British) and the Triomphant-class (French).
Skipjack-class SSN
The other class to result from the Stalwart-class. Probably most similar to the British Astute-class but I'm not completely sure.
Julianus-class SSGN
After extensive research into the Russian Kursk and the American Ohio-classes, I created this class. I probably could have converted Stalwart-class boats to serve in this role, but I figured I spent so much time with them, why not just create the class?
Bolash-class SSK
Based on the French Agosta 90B-class SSKs.
Insurgent-class special operations sub
This is based loosely on the Sea Dagger special operations subs in the Swedish navy. Since the request came for a larger version, I increased the size by approximately 2 1/2 times.
Pasteur-class hospital ship
This ship is based loosely on the USS Sanctuary and the intent behind this design is to create a dedicated hospital ship (in my navy, previous designs were cruise ships that were converted).
Einstein-class scientific research vessel
Based very loosely on the DAIE-class Australian Marine Science Vessels, but I essentially tripled its size and gave it more capabilities.
Discovery-class research submarine
This is based on two possible NR-2 replacement designs to replace the NR-1 research submarine the U.S. has used since the late '60s. Each design had different strengths and weaknesses, so I tried to create a design that took the best qualities of both while adding some realistic design challenges.
Diplomacy-class executive yacht
This design is not based on a particular class of vessel. It was the result of extensive research into modern and traditional executive yachts, such as the one called the "floating White House" (the USS Potomac).
Curie-class light medical vessel
This is not based on any particular RL design. The concept behind this ship was to create a smaller version of a hospital ship for shallow waters. It's intended to provide urgent care and serve as a stopgap until patients can get to a land hospital or a Pasteur.
[i]Chieftain-class executive submarine
Based on a personal submarine provided by US Subs (http://www.ussubs.com). The model I used is the Phoenix 1000. I gave it a sturdier hull and extended the size slightly.

Subject: Order of three Alliance-class supercruisers
The Portland Iron Works has reviewed your order request forwarded from Commodore Jamie Wilson (ISN-Ret.), managing director of the Wilmington Shipyard Corporation, and we have determined that your order of three Alliance-class supercruisers with the modifications you requested would exceed a naval budget of five percent of your overall budget. [OOC: I used the Thrace-Tailteann Budgetary Calculator, accessible at this URL: http://members.fortunecity.com/thracetailteann/html/gnp.html with a presumed military budget of 15%.]
Since we are in the process of laying down the keels for three Alliance-class supercruisers and we have already requested the modifications you specified, we will waive the charge of $25 million per vessel.
We have discussed your order with Commodore Wilson and the boards of directors of both the Wilmington Shipyard Corporation and the Portland Iron Works and we are confirming your order of three Alliance-class supercruisers. We hope those ships serve your navy well and we wish you and your country the best of luck on the high seas!

The Portland Iron Works is delighted that the Navy of the Federation of Morathania is placing such a large order with us. Because of the very high volume of this order, you are entitled to an additional 10% discount. PORTLAND (ASP) -- Faced with a massive backlog of orders, the Portland Iron Works announced today that it is implementing a "major" hiring programme intended to allow the company to work "around the clock" to complete orders, spokeswoman Katy Bennett said.
"We have received more orders than we initially were able to cope with," Bennett said. "This program is definitely needed to allow us to complete orders as efficently as possible."
PIW recently confirmed an order from Sdaeriji for 205 ships following an order from Morathania for 122 ships. The company said they estimated completion of the second order in 15 years unless "we take drastic measures," Commodore Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.), the managing director of the company said.
The company also recently announced the purchase of seven shipyards in the Sarzonian colony in the former Socialst Cockroaches. They also will begin construction of three more there. Plans for purchasing five shipyards and building three more in Branwyn were put on hold due to "safety concerns" following an armed rebellion.
"We can't put our crews in harm's way," Bennett said. "It's a shame because Branwynians could also benefit from the employment boom.
"We were able to cover previous orders with ships built in anticipation of orders," Tucker said. "But these last two orders have tapped that reserve out.
"We're going to install lighting that should allow us to continue construction work at all hours of the night and hire people so that we can continue to work at full capacity after sundown. We already have crews working in two shifts; we should be able to increase that to four."
PIW has been rated by the Sarzonian bureau of the Fortune Magazine as the fastest-growing employer in Sarzonia even before the massive hiring programme.
"We're definitely the fastest growing company in Sarzonia and we may be among the fastest growing companies in the world," Tucker said. "We're going to do everything we can to keep pace."

Your Excellency, we are pleased that you have chosen the Portland Iron Works for your naval needs. Unfortunately, we must decline the confirmation of this order at present. Your naval budget is presumed to be one third of that total unless otherwise specified at the beginning of that order.
Since we are currently facing an order backlog, we can proceed with construction of the ships you've ordered and can accept a payment plan that would allow you to pay upon completion of the ships' sea trials. We would be willing to listen to a proposal from you regarding the full payment of your order. Subject: Ithaca Class Light Cruiser
The Portland Iron Works are pleased to confirm this order from our highly esteemed allies in Praetonia. Out of respect for your wish to waive the discount, the total for one Ithaca-class light cruiser is $775 million.
We appreciate your sensitivity to our order situation. We have now completed the sea trials for the Morathanian order and have now shifted our full attention to the Sdaerijian order. We look to have that particular order complete in eight NS years [8 RL days] with our around the clock production methods. Your order should be complete shortly thereafter.
We thank the Imperial Praetonian Government for their gesture of goodwill and we wish you and the Praetonian people great success in the years ahead. Long may the friendship between our peoples endure!

The Portland Iron Works have received your order. Unfortunately, we must decline the order because the $375 billion the order costs would be nearly half your overall defense budget. In addition, we have some reservations about your country's record on human rights and your form of government. The sale of the Freedom-class is generally reserved for countries that we have a level of trust in.
If you build a record of trust in the international community, we may favorably consider future orders of ships of this class.

I sell the Calypso for $175 billion, seeing that Hybalt needs to remain competitive. Also, Freethinker did mention once that construction using pre-fab parts, or streamlining the technique could significantly reduce the price. (This was in an argument over the Doujin.) So I think $175 is reasonable, seeing as the Freedom Class is $125 billion. :)

Note that the Freedom Class is about 3/4 the size of a Doujin and carries much smaller gun armament, whereas the Calypso is lightly bigger than the Doujin, I believe, and has a comparable gun armament.

The Holy Empire of Westmark has recently broken away from it's oppressors and formed it's own region. As such, his Majesty Blake Willington IV is keenly interested in protecting his new coastal waters and wishes to make a rather substantial purchase from your shipyards. However, in addition to defense the Empire of Westmark also wishes to expand it's area's of ocean going scientific research. What additional expenses would there be in scaling down the firepower on a ship the size of a Calypso for equipping mass amounts of scientific equipment? His Majesty is of a mind to build the worlds finest ocean going research vessel yet realizes that a ship that size must still retain some firepower to prevent piracy and be of use in unexpected combat situations.
Please respond as soon as possible, as his Majesty wishes to finalize the contract details immediately. Regards,

4 Stalwart-class nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBN)
Our Minister of Defense and our Minister of Scientific Research have assured me that these vessels will adequately meet (and even exceed) our needs in those fields for several years to come. As such, the budget has been adjusted to allow whatever funds needed for the purchase. Westmark intends to defend and explore her waters and hopes to do so with a fleet from your fine industrial yards. Upon confirmation (or denial) of our request for a Modified Dreadnaught please contact my office with a total cost and rough completion date.
All due regards,

We at the Portland Iron Works thank you for your interest. We note that according to the Thrace-Taliteann budgetary calculator (http://members.fortunecity.com/thracetailteann/html/gnp.html), your presumed naval budget (of 5% of your overall budget, would not cover the full amount for three Pasteur-class hospital ships. Since we are under a backlog that will cause a delay of approximately five years in getting this order to you and we would like you to have your ships, we offer you the opportunity to make full payment upon delivery of the ships.
We thank you for choosing the Portland Iron Works and we hope to see you again when you look to bolster your naval strength!
[OOC: I calculated your naval budget as being five percent of your nation's overall budget with a figure of 15 percent presumed as your defense budget unless you specify a larger figure. According to those calculations, your defense budget is right around $9 billion. Using a third of that for the Navy, it would come to $3 billion. If you use a higher figure, please let me know. Thanks!]

PIW purchases Nicksia Shipyards, expands into Isselmere
PORTLAND (ASP) -- The Portland Iron Works announced today that they completed a major acquisition they expect will help the company handle the large orders they have received of late.
"We have reached an agreement in principle to acquire the Nicksia Shipyards from the Royal Shipyards of Isselmere-Nieland Corporation," Commodore Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.), the managing director of the Portland Iron Works, said in a press conference announcing the move.
The move looks to ease production burdens after a slew of orders nearing or surpassing $200 billion Sarzonian. In addition, Tucker said the move also provides jobs to help an Isselmere-Nieland industry beset by the shutdown of several of its yards.
"We believe this deal greatly benefits both countries," Tucker said. "We receive the shipyards we need to handle much larger orders and we help our staunchest allies save jobs."
The move still must be approved by the commission dealing with mergers and acquisitions, but it is widely expected to pass easily.
"It should pass with flying colors," said Craig Stanicek, a market analyst in Nicksia. "The commission is going to see this as an opportunity to help the Portland Iron Works compete on the world stage."
President Mike Sarzo hailed the move in his weekly press conference at the Gray House.
"This move strengthens the bonds of friendship between us and our close friends in Isselmere-Nieland," Sarzo said. "Sarzonians believe that competition is the greatest method of ensuring top quality. This will go a long way toward that aim."

Portland Iron Works announces SarzTorp creation
The Portland Iron Works, in conjunction with Windham and Green Defense Industries, have announced a brand new ASW torpedo to be available for use in Sarzonian warships. Dubbed the SarzTorp, this lightweight torpedo is able to be deployed in littoral warfare and in deep water operations, by frigates or corvettes, ASW helicopters, and fixed wing aircraft intended to provide ASW support.
"This new torpedo will give us great flexibility," said Commodore Barbara Tucker (ISN-Ret.), the Portland Iron Works' managing director. "It is a design that has been a long time in the making and we're very proud of the results."

For whatever the cost. We would also like to purchase production rights for the warheads. We were wondering if these missiles could be attached with a tactical nuclear warhead as well as a conventional warhead. We would also be willing to give the money to start production of a nuclear warhead for these missiles in return for production rights. Secondly we were wondering if you could develop and put on sale a 21-inch torpedo with conventional and nuclear warheads. We would give you the money to design and start production of this and then recieve in return production rights for the torpedo and warheads. Please post your response and prices for this offer. If you did build the torpedo the Nutropinian government wishes to have the
Torpedo named after its Dictator Paul 'The Mad' Silver.

Subject: Production rights
We have received your inquiry into the purchase of production rights for the missile delivery systems and for conventional and nuclear warheads. With regard to the missile systems, we would need to refer you to the Royal Shipyards of Isselmere-Nieland for production rights purchase, as we have entered into an agreement to purchase the rights to produce those weapons for sale at the Portland Iron Works.
As far as production of warheads is concerned, it is against Portland Iron Works and Sarzonian government policy to sell production rights for warheads to all but our most trusted allies. We may consider selling delivery systems to countries pending a background check into the purchaser.
We will consider your request to produce the torpedo you have mentioned, pending the aforementioned background check. We will be sure to notify you of the results of that background check within [one RL day... it won't be a NS year for the purposes of this answer, but I'll be at work tomorrow and it's getting late here on the East Coast of the U.S. I expect that it will be a lot sooner, though].
Thank you for contacting the Portland Iron Works about acquiring weapons systems. We hope to hear from you again soon!
