Live Debate Thread - Obama v. McCain Part 2
I thought I'd get this thread made about an hour in advance, since the debate is pretty soon now.
We'll be commentating on the debate here. (Or, you guys will be. I'll be wrangled into watching it on television by my parents again. )

Watching the Fox pe-coverage, and they just ran an article about how Ohio's policy of allowing registration and voting on the same day is worrying the GOP, because of the risk of voter fraud.
Because, of COURSE, if there's any fraud, it would have to be Democrats....
Here's a spot for a Live debate discussion.
Also, I wanted to preface it with a question.
What question would you ask the candidates if you could (try to make them fair questions)?
Also, how good are you at predicting? Let's here what questions you think we'll see tonight.
Okay, that's two questions. Stop being so pedantic, CTOAN.

to be fair, they are defining 'fraud' as 'people of color and young people and people who live in disproportionately democratic areas voting', so that really does give them cause for concern

I'm being either amused or horrified, I can't decide, by the fact that - within a minute of declaring the program a 'no-spin zone', the O'Reilly thing launched into an overview of all the questions McCain needs to put to Obama, in order to recover some ground.
Curiously - they neglected to talk (so far) about what Obama might want to ask.
No spin.... ahem.

What negative ads are you running? Give their names so our audience can look them up. In what markets are you playing them?

Last week I found a site that let me submit a question they said was going to be sent to the debate moderator. We'll just see if it actually gets asked. If I remember how I phrased it correctly it was "Do you support same sex marriage? If so why? If not do you have a reason that is based on something other than religion?"

To be fair, you're not running for President. However, debates with fifteen people aren't particularly interesting or effective. We're trying to find out about our future President. Bob Barr has 0 chance of being our future President. Both candidates could die and they could end up with replacements chosen on Nov 3 and one of them would still win.

Indeed.
What I suggest instead is that the debates allow in any who have a good chance. During this election, it's just Obama and McCain, but in the next election there might be a viable independent, and if so, said independent should be allowed in.
There isn't any viable one in this election however.
And there really usually isn't because the parties are so dominating. Almost every competent politician joins one of these two parties, and as such the third parties end up being more like a celebration of lunatics with a few good sprinkles mixed in rather than truly competitive parties.

which is, in fact, exactly their criteria:
Pursuant to the criteria, which were publicly announced on November 19, 2007, those candidates qualify for debate participation who (1) are constitutionally eligible to hold the office of President of the United States; (2) have achieved ballot access in a sufficient number of states to win a theoretical Electoral College majority in the general election; and (3) have demonstrated a level of support of at least 15 percent of the national electorate, as determined by five selected national public opinion polling organizations, using the average of those organizations' most recent publicly-reported results.

There have been independents in the debates before.
There is nothing inherent in the debate set-up that excludes third parties.
Any party that meets the preset criteria can participate. Under those criteria set by the Commission on Presidential Debates, those candidates qualify for debate participation who (1) are constitutionally eligible to hold the office of President of the United States; (2) have achieved ballot access in a sufficient number of states to win a theoretical Electoral College majority in the general election; and (3) have demonstrated a level of support of at least 15 percent of the national electorate.

Three questions:
1) Name some of the "worst [Supreme Court] decisions in the history of this country"
2) Why does John McCain hate our Constitution?
3) Why does John McCain side with the Sherrif of Nottingham on "the ancient right of anyone seized by the king to cry out from the dungeon and say, 'I've been wrongly jailed!'"?
