Okay, you're getting a couple of things confused here. By Western standards, civilized means most basically having written records. The Native Americans didn't have that. I'm not saying their culture, therefore, sucks, but they were "civilized", per say, according to Western standards. And also, your logic makes no sense. As time progresses, the level of civilization also progresses. You can hardly say that because a race of people were advanced in the later times, that they were advanced in earlier times. If this is to make logical sense, they should be less advanced in earlier times.
