Wow, I've learned so many things just now.

First, you're a chick. I'm sure if I had been paying attention I'd have already know that.

Second, you're from the south. Definately could have known that if I had just looked over at the location part.

Third, you're a stoner. Or at the very least chanted a stoner whatsit that I've never heard before.

I'm always a little jared by stoners from other places. Well, except from Amsterdam...or Canada. Or the cats up in Oregon. I guess it must just be the south, maybe I have a hard time concieving of southern stoners. Or maybe I'm a pot snob, because I'm in NorCal in the Emerald Triangle where weed literally grows on its own and so sticky you could use it as glue, and the other places are kinda the same. I guess the south probably can grow some decent weed, I mean that tobacco seems to do well.

Anyway, didn't want to highjack Fass' thread. Just bump into it really hard...

If I hadn't elected to buy a cheap headset (ie not worth the packaging it was in) I would have one up right about now. Alas, I did, and stepped on it to boot (wonderful, huh? I even managed to spill hot chocolate over myself in public earlier).

i have recorded my voice but i dont know how to make a link to the recording any advice pleaseThis thread is a result of one other thread (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=437292) and a post (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=9435478&postcount=198).

In an attempt to remedy this state of ignorance about our individual voices, I give you this thread, where I ask you to post a small sound file containing a recording of your voice, giving us a good appreciation of what your voice sounds like and what sort of accent you have.

Seeing as I'm the thread starter, I'll be the first one out:

Reading the previous paragraph. (http://goto.glocalnet.net/quelconque1/me2.mp3) [MP3, ~ 240kb]

Please call Stella. (http://goto.glocalnet.net/quelconque1/me.mp3) [MP3, ~ 320kb].

That's me reading the elicitation text found over at Speech Accent Archive. (http://accent.gmu.edu/browse_language.php?function=detail&speakerid=351)

If you need a programme to record your voice, I can recommend Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/), which is free and open source. I'm afraid I can't help with hosting, but Ourmedia.org (http://www.ourmedia.org/) might be worth trying out (I don't know anything about it) and Rapidshare (http://rapidshare.de/) seems to work well for most so far.

While descriptions are nice, they are superfluous here, as we would really like some sound files for this thread!

I grew up in Wisconsin, so naturally I sound like a foghorn (or a German/Scandinavian... hard vowels that are actually also Latin in some ways).

...but i'd rather sound like a foghorn than a donkey.

this is what a YOOPER (someone from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan) sounds like when he says, "Jesus!"

http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/animals/donkey.html

ROFL, i'm delighted to know that the donkey's bray is translated in Bengali to "chuu-chuu" or "CHOO CHOO"!!!

Gruesome gravedigging, Batman! O_O

Seeing as most of the files are missing, since rapidshare doesn't keep them unless they are downloaded once a month, perhaps a new thread and some more permanent host would be better if people are still interested in this?

(Oh, and thanks Dakini. I get that a lot. :p )

I think that's a good plan.

I found a cheap mic at a store near me, so tomorrow I should have some sound files.
