Who do you respect the most on NationStates?

This is a catch-all usage of the word, it doesn't matter whether you respect their views, intelligence, eloquence, or just respect them as a person.

If this goes over well enough, maybe I can put together a poll of persons for everyone to vote on. If that goes well, then someone may walk away with quite an honor, as far as NS general is concerned.

So who is it in your opinion?

Well, the first to come to mind are Bottle, Graven Idle, and Upward Thrust. I don't agree with them all on everything, but we can always have good conversations.

Etrusca is cool. He and I disagree on a lot of things, but he is usually cool-headed about it and, knowing that he served in the military, I can certainly see where he's coming from on many viewpoints.

I used to have a good bit of respect for Keruvalia, but that is all but gone at this point.

Maybe I'll add more later as I think about it. =)

I vote for Myrth. He's been pretty helpful a couple of times when I've asked people for help with something in 'General'. I also quite liked his approach to that "The Chosen Aryans" guy. You know, with the nasty pictures...

I respect 5CN, AmandaTheGreat, Wandering Argonians, Crimmond Euroslavia, Kaukolastan, Pure Thought, and Pantera a great deal. There's many more that i like too.

Actually, I respect Bottle mostly for her political and social views (though I certainly don't agree with all of those views), rather than her hardline pro-science viewpoint. But that's most likely due to the fact that your political ideals are rather different from mine.

I respect several people for a lot of different reasons.

Automagfreek (RP ability and very helpful; seems to be a very nice guy IRL)
Sdaeriji (I love his writing and I've come to know him a little bit through IM)
Praetonia (The term great minds think alike must have been invented for him)
Isselmere (He's the one I consider my NS mentor)
Roach-Busters (I think of him as a great friend both IC and OOC)
Granzi (I like his writing, his RPing ability, and his research skills :p)
Euroslavia (He invests a lot of time in helping newbs out and I like him as a person)
Der Fuhrer Dyszel (Excellent writer and someone I greatly empathize with for sharing her pain the way she has. I could never do it.)

The difficult thing is trying to remember... you KNOW that no matter what you type, you'll think of another two as soon as you've finished...

That's the thing, though... the couple of times he 'broke through', his debating was actually very good. What he was, was a 'dem fine actor', with a collection of specific 'issues' that he role-played very convincingly.

And, his theological 'It Is..." construct made for very educational debate.

i always know what side he's actually on, being just a slightly older and more irish version of myself and all.

what's great is when he gets somebody who is actually nominally on the same side as him into an uproar of sputtering indignation. "how dare you point out the logical fallacies and factual inaccuracies with my argument!"

Since I met her, I've been to Croatia, England, France, Austria, Poland, Slovonia, Slovenia, Serbia, Czek Republic, Slavakia, South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique all in about 3 years. What a ride.

Yes, there is a risk of car-jackings so you don't drive at night, but touring Kruger Park(wild lions, elephants, zebra, jaguar, water buffalo, giraffe etc amazing) for 4 days was my favorite 4 days of all my traveling. Oh and the resturant at the Royal Swazi Hotel was probably the best I've ever ate at.

In terms of abject poverty, Mozambique was the worst. Its capital city has over 2 million people that live in cardboard shacks.

Been there, done that. Unfortunately you are only presenting one side of the picture there. Yes, crime is an issue, but the reasons are numerous and deep seated in the countries history. They are making progress, albeit slow, but considering where things started, it has been commendable. Lets see how things are in another 20 years.
