Sorry for the long absence, but now that wedding-related stuffly is mostly over, I should be able to get back into it with renewed energy. Does anyone still want to continue? If so, I'm probably going to start off a little farther down the timeline, as we've lost momentum in the current scene (and it was coming to a close anyway).

I'm still in.

Possible scenario:

Everybody is now downriver, at the port and ready to sail off. William has relayed all of the information that I acquired during his 'conversation,' and the newly improved Hydra doused sword is quite deadly, as per the field testing. This is important for both Will and Tovius, whose blade is also pretty much a 'kill anything it touches' weapon due to the Hydra exposure. As for Kiten, well, that's probably something best not to think about. Another vision may or may not be had by our seeress, and Will is still pissed off that his access to lightning or earth magic is damned up.

That takes into account where we were, a logically viable method to get to where we need to go, and a way for Will to mitigate his general level of pissed off-ness by thinking about his newly improved weaponry. Oh, and a replenishment of the on hand alcohol should be in the works.

In, but confused, both at the part in bold and as to what was happening. Bad memory + long hours at work + long time since thread activity have caused me to remember little about the story as of now.

Remember when we killed that baby Hydra? Kiten took three body parts, the only part of which I can remember is the eye. There were two others that he intended to use, but I've no idea what else he took. I just know that Tovius and Will now have blood and venom coated blades, and Will has a crystal vial with more blood and venom to coat his other blade at a later date. Probably now, during the boat ride to the Oracle.

Yeah, I'll need to read through the previous posts to make sure I have everything straight, then I'll post a summary of it for y'all.

I think most of the group voted to head south via an overland route first, Arthur. I don't remember what the reason was. But the boat ride to the Oracle won't come until after the overland traveling.

And if anyone has anything they want to happen to their chars (like facing racism), TG me now (or as soon as you come up with it) so I can incorporate it better into the upcoming plots.

We did. But I believe we're now at the river, and being at the river means river boats, or horses, depending on how wide you said that the river was. At least, Will doing his waterboarding at the river makes me think that we now have merely to follow it to the coast, but I could be mistaken.

The story so far:

Farmland has been dying, focused around Eavana in the Gaireth Protectorate. The various characters journey toward this hotspot, and Elva's patron Spirit (Allekar the tree) falls silent after expending so much energy into teleparting her and Lanu to the Gaireth Protectorate. Fayalin begins receiving visions and receives a talisman of Eovia, while some black-clad men unsuccessfully try to kidnap her.

Everyone eventually descends upon Eavana and join forces when they find a magical earthen tunnel leading underground in an alleyway. While there, they find a man (Vanion) performing a ritual on Caeli, sister of Nald. The group intervenes, but with the interference of a couple of shape-shifting wolves and some tranced townspeople, Vanion escapes through a mirror and steals the mages' carriage.

The group decides to follow Vanion eastwards toward Aervyn. If they find no traces of him, they group would swing south through the hills and toward the Arii River, which divides the Tal'theran Republic from the Hatriole Kingdom, against Thibault's objections. Their goal is to reach the Oracle at Karamethos, as she has beckoned them to her and seems to know something about the dying lands.

On the road to Aervyn, bandits wearing black leather attacked the group in the middle of the night and several people got injured. William lost the ability to use his magic after killing the bandit mage, who was previously preventing everyone from using magic in the area. The bandit leader's snake turns out to be a hydra, but it was trapped inside of Icarus' hardened earth shell. Tovius and William got some of the hydra's blood on their swords, William got a small vial of the blood, and Kiten got parts of the severed hydra head's ear, tongue, and left eye.

Fayalin started taking self defense lessons from Lanu, and she also told Tovius about her visions and the message: "In day they hide, in night they show. When life has died, their numbers grow." Viktor's studies leads him to believe that some ancient prophecies may be tied to what is happening. William waterboards a captured bandit and learns the name of the bandit leader (Farìus) before stabbing him with the poisoned sword.

And that's where we stopped.

Thanks, Arthur. But I think we might be thinking about two different rivers here. There's the river that Aervyn is located on, which is the one where we last left off at. The Arii River is the one the group is heading towards before getting on a river boat. That one is directly south of the group's current location, and the group still has a bit of an overland trip through hilly country before reaching the Arii River.

I'll post on the IC thread as soon as I get the chance to.

I just noticed something. Our Theran benefactor, Senator Pellatrix, appears to be quite the feminine one. If we're basing Thera off of Rome, and we've got an aptly named commander (Tovius), then the -rix suffix indicates a family known for acting in a feminine manner, and not likely to still be in the Senate.

Take for example, a will. When a man is named to carry out one's final wishes, he is called the executor. Less known is the fact that when a women is asked to do the same, she is properly named the executrix. Dominatrix essentially means a woman that dominates, just as a man that dominates is called a dominator. Nothing like a review of Latin for a buddy's final exam to make one laugh at something not seen before.

Also, the Latin verb root 'pallere' means "to be pale". So, our Senator Palletrix, in Latin, is "She who becomes pale," or "She who pales."

Thought you all should know...

As the group was leaving Eavana, Tovius said:

"I've procured a horse to help carry our belongings. I'd like to travel fast, so if anyone of you are carrying enough things to slow you down, distribute some of the weight to the horse. And for some additional good news, it looks like I've got a mysterious benefactor. Whoever sent me on this mission has also seen to it that supplies like food will be taken care of as long as a legion is nearby. We certainly shouldn't abuse it, but it's a nice fallback should we need it."

I might be able to get a post up in the next couple of days, but the next week and a half will be busy for me, so no guarantees on how active I'll be. Next week I'll be away on a business trip so I might not be around at all until after that.

Now, I'm got a question for y'all. So far, I've been waiting for at least a post from several people before replying with one larger post. This gives you guys time to do what your characters need to do, even if you're busy and can't log on every other hour to check on the RP. Does this work for you, or would you rather I reply as soon as possible to every post, consequently with shorter posts, which means a quicker pace but not necessarily everyone gets to have their input before the entire scene passes them up?

You're looking at the wrong system of measurment for posting. When it comes to involved stuff, such as combat situations, I generally find that a timed system, not an involvement one, works best. The normal usage is to have the GM post once every twenty-four hours (with an hour on each side for wiggle room) detailing the actions of the red-shirts and other enemies.

During the period between posts, each player can put up one post detailing the actions of their chracter/s. In doing so, they can state things like "Aimed for the eye, allowing a second to lead and adjust for the wind, before releasing the bow." They don't say things like "Released the arrow to drop an opponent through the eye, smiling at the sight of a blood-spout." The part of actually allowing an enemy to die rests with a GM, but writing on the part of the character that shows careful execution versus haphazard attacks is significant as a determining factor of success.

It also sets a pace. While the twenty-our hour basis can be adjusted, it generally gives everybody a chance to act no matter what schedule and time-zone that they're in. It limits any one person from over-invovling themselves to help move the story along (since the pace is set), and it doesn't drag out due to waiting three days for a post from the slow one (since they know the schedule, it's their damn fault for not involving themselves in the RP). The GM posts can be extended during weekends (one for the 48 hour period), but the idea of a regular cycle of posts moves RP's along much more quickly, while still allowing everybody an equal chance to act.

I vote for a timed system, opting for the 24-hour cycle with 48-hour weekend cycles.

I think it should be a bit inbetween. Give people a chance to respond, but if few people do or if there is an important event happening, then keep the story going rather than stalling.

KATGs system sounds reasonable.

Though just as a heads up i'm gone this weekend :p

Yeah, if you wait for everyone else to post, then everything just ends up taking forever to actually get anywhere.

KAtG's idea sounds like a reasonable course of action to take.

No need for a timed system when the RP and its RPers are dead.
