The Dying Lands: Quest for the Artifact (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=534988) (Closed)

The earth is dying; agricultural plains turn to dust fields, deserts expand at alarming rates, gloomy swamplands consume fertile valleys. No one knows why this is happening, but it all began when the star fell from the sky. Ancient legends, recorded in decaying scrolls or passed down by mouth as folklore, speak of such times, and of the Artifact. Little is known about it, and the tale differs from realm to realm, but the one thing that all of the legends are consistent on is that it is the only means of salvation from this dire age...but at what cost?

This is a high fantasy, epic-style, character RP. It may get a little dark at times, and not everything will be as it appears. Magic-users are not abundant in this world, and so if you wish to play a magic-user, there will be limitations to what can and can't be done. Along those lines, I am going to try to make this require strategy, tactics, and the occassional diplomacy rather than the typical hack 'n slash/magic zap RP (so if your character rushes in to fight a thousand baddies by him/herself, expect consequences). I am open to player contribution, so if there is anything you want to add to the story, feel free to bring it up to me and I'll try to incorporate it if it fits the plot.

YOUR CHARACTER

A list of the current characters is available here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showpost.php?p=12945293&postcount=56).

You guys can use the Locations section to choose where your character is from, or you can make up a land just off the map if you want. Keep in mind the slightly dark, gritty nature of the world, though. The less powerful your character begins, the more interesting stuff they'll get along the way to make them more powerful. For character creation, you can use something like this:

Name:
Race:
Gender:
Age:
Occupation:
Brief physical description:
Abilities: (If magical, try to be as precise as possible to which area of magic your character uses. Ie fire-oriented, healing/defensive-oriented, offensive-oriented, etc.)
Place of origin:
Weakness/Vice: (None of that "is mortal and can die" stuff. That comes standard for all characters.)
Deity:

RACES

The standard fantasy races are available, with humans being the dominant one. You can make up your own race as well, as long as it is not too far from the norm. Here are the restrictions (but I'm open to consideration, so feel free to TG me about it):

1) No undead
2) Nothing much more powerful than the standard races (ie no dragons, giants, etc.)

That's it, really. For now, at least.

The rock people of the Wastelands are also available. They're typically around 6-7 feet, and have skin that blends in with the native rocks of wherever they are from. However, they are not actually made of rock, although their skin is tougher, giving them a natural leather-quality armor, and they are stronger than the average human. They are slightly dumber than the average human as well, and typically only use weapons that are easier to handle, such as clubs, swords, hammers, spears, etc. They tend to avoid using bows and arrows, and have no magical abilities whatsoever.

LOCATIONS

Map (http://www.geocities.com/ttomaktt/dyinglandsmap.html)

Tal'theran Republic:
Think Late Roman Republic and you've got the general idea. This is easily the biggest power in the area, having incorporated far-reaching lands either through diplomacy or through its massive army. Because of this, a wide variety of different locales and races inhabit the Republic. As magic-users are rare, most of the army is composed of regular, heavy infantry of various races. However, every legion would have at least one or two magic-user at its disposal.

Gaireth Protectorate:
A simple land of hills and plains, the Protectorate sought and was granted the protection of the Republic to their south, but has so far retained its governmental independence from the Republic. In exchange, much of its fertile farmlands produce grain and other staples to feed the ever-increasing demands of the Republic's population, as well as provide lumber from its ancient forests. Lately, however, large swaths of farmland has started rotting, becoming utterly unproductive.

Eringaard Magocracy:
Bordering the western edge of Gaireth is Eringaard, controlled by a council of mages. They are on neutral terms with the Republic, although there have been skirmishes between the two nations in the past.

Korovir:
A large island nation to the west-northwest of Eringaard that is considered uncivilized and barbaric to the Tal'therans and Eringardé. The Republic has unsuccessfully attempted conquest of this island several times before. Many of the druids come from this region.

The Wastelands:
Northeast of Gaireth lies a massive, frozen tundra leading up to frigid, snow-covered mountains, seldom frequented by most humanoid races. Only the rock people and some minor dwarven clans have been known to eke out a living here.

Prisiian Empire:
Located on the Republic's most southeastern edges is the empire of the Prisii. Much of their land is desert, and a good number of their population is nomadic. Yet, the nation is rich and its capital city, located at the convergence of two major desert rivers, is lush with greenery. The Empire and the Republic are not exactly on friendly terms, having had various clashes in the past. Prisiian horses are much coveted, and the empire's army has a considerable cavalry.

DEITIES

The more worshippers a certain god or goddess has, the stronger they become. The stronger they are, the grander their abilities (changing the outcome of entire battles, for example). However, this also means that they will be less likely to answer the prayers of any one worshipper, especially if that worshipper has not done anything to extremely please them (sort of like the Greco-Roman Olympians).

On the other end of the spectrum are what the ancient Romans called the house gods. The number of worshippers that these gods have can usually be counted on a single hand, and are therefore not particularly powerful. Yet, they are much more likely to answer a worshipper's request to the best of their abilities.

Your character can worship a deity anywhere in this spectrum, or they can worship none, if you so choose. They can even worship multiple gods, but depending on who those gods are, they might not be too happy about that. I will determine the responses of gods to these cases and to prayers and whatnot.

Different regions will have different deities, and so here is a list of some of them.

Tal'theran Republic/Gaireth Protectorate
The entire spectrum can be found in the Republic, given its vast territories and citizens. The Republic also has a tendency of incorporating the deities of their enemies in an attempt to gain the favor of their enemies' gods or goddesses, and therefore the number of Tal'theran deities is ever increasing. Some of their temples even have a section dedicated to the "Unknown God." Some of their more popular deities include...

Atrius: Considered the "king of the gods", he is responsible for raising the sun in the morning and putting it to rest at night. For this, he is commonly associated with fire, which not only provides warmth and protection from wild creatures, but also is capable of great destruction. He, along with seven other "major" deities, is said to live in a floating palace high in the sky.

Eovia: Goddess of fertility, she is the wife of Atrius and is principally responsible for the harvest and of reproduction. Bad harvest seasons could be salvaged (even under the blazing sun in a time of drought), and women thought to be barren could become mothers, all by the grace of Eovia. She is one of the major deities and lives in the sky palace.

Theras: Goddess of war. Whether it be cowardly tactics or honorable combat in use, she oversees it all. Tal'theran legends trace the lineage of their founding father to her, thus explaining their military success. Tal'theran roughly translates to "Child of Theras". She is one of the major deities and lives in the sky palace.

Morteus: God of the dead. Ruler of the domain of the dead, he is the ultimate judge of whether the incoming souls would be rewarded in their afterlife, punished, or simply be in a limbo-like stage. He also has the ability to withhold death from certain individuals. He is one of the major deities, but he does not live in the sky palace. Rather, he resides in his undergroud domain.

Cumulas: The often hot-headed goddess of rain. She is in charge of anything from sprinkles to farm-feeding rains to destructive lightning storms - the latter of which is often a result of her losing her temper. She is one of the major deities and lives in the sky palace.

Merius: God of the oceans. Ruler of the open seas and any saltwater bodies directly connected to them, he is the patron of fishers, sailors, merchants, and pirates - namely anyone who make a living in the oceans and seas. He is a major deity.

Amoran: God of love. Not just the sappy lovebird love, but of the familial and brotherly/sisterly kind as well. The bond developed between fellow soldiers is often the work of his hands. Although one of the major deities, he's among the lowest of them, and lives in the sky palace.

Selenia: Goddess of the moon, and the daughter of Atrius and a mortal woman. She was a beloved of Atrius, and when she died before her time, he immortalized her by sharing a small portion of the sun with her to light up the night as the sun does the day. Eovia, outraged at his infidelity, tried to obscure Selenia, and so the moon could now only show her full magnificence once a month. She is a minor deity.

Fortulia: Goddess of fortune, called upon by people from all walks of life. Although popular, she is not one of the major deities, and is often worshiped as second to another god or goddess.

Peraclus: God of the fleet-footed. Messengers, thieves, cavalrymen - people who require speed (whether it be of the foot, sleight of hands, quick-mindedness, etc.) find Peraclus a popular deity. He has no home, as he is always on the move, and falls smack in the middle of the deity spectrum.

Parminius: God of traveling. The son of Peraclus, he watches over travelers, keeping them safe from bandits, wild beasts, and even the land itself. He is one of the minor gods.

Jairwyn: God of the family. An ancient god found only in isolated areas of the Gaireth Protectorate and is the general god protector and provider for families. He is being phased out by the increasing popularity of the Republic gods such as Eovia.

Eringaard Magocracy
The Eringardé are less religious than the Tal'therans are, but they nonetheless have their gods and goddesses. Many of their deities are the same as those found in the Republic (again, since the Republic's pantheon is so extensive), but with different names and a slightly different take on their histories.

Heimlin: God of magic. A very popular deity in the mage courts of Eringaard for obvious reasons. He grants followers special powers more often than other deities tend to.

Eldavern: Goddess of growth, equivalent to Eovia, the Tal'theran goddess of fertility. According to the Eringardé, Eldavern goes a step farther and looks after the general growth of their civilization as well.

Grimfel: God of death, equivalent to the Tal'theran Morteus. Grimfel typically uses his servants to deliver death and gather the souls rather than doing it himself.

Lündell: Goddess of luck, equivalent to the Tal'theran Fortulia.

Anderhal: God of trickery. There is no precise equivalent to the Tal'theran gods, but Tal'theran scholars believe that Anderhal is perhaps one aspect of Peraclus.

Korovir
Korovirians focus more on their immediate surroundings rather than on the more intangible aspects like love, and so their deities have power over the nearby landscapes. This typically limits their powers to localized areas, so if their worshippers travel to distant lands, then more likely than not these deities can do little to help. However, this is not always the case, as sometimes the deity will grant a follower certain abilities that would help them out in similar natural locations, thus why more druids are common here than in the nearby nations.

These deities, or spirits, as the Korovirians consider them, range anywhere from simple dryads and naiads to the more powerful Renaka, goddess and protector of the Twilight Lakes, or Colukin, god of the Lone Mountain.

Prisiian Empire
Prisiian gods often have animal traits in their looks, and the Prisii revere certain animals as holy.

Anhwol-Teb: The horse lord. He is the keeper of the celestial horses and commander of the heavenly cavalry. According to the Prisii, all earthly horses stem from him, and with horses being a large part of the Prisiian economy, he is one of the most honored and beloved of the Prisiian pantheon.

Khemel-ay-Hanol: The camel prince. Equivalent to the Tal'theran Parminius, he guides caravans and other travelers through the desert, leading them to shade and water when needed.

Tanneth-Aros: The bull king. The Prisiian god of war, which the Tal'therans consider as a mere heifer compared to their Theras.

Hathon-reab: The cow queen. She watches over the cattle (predominantly goats) and protects them, as well as increases their yield in milk and in births. She is the wife of Tanneth-Aros.

THE TITANS
The titans appear in the ancient legends of every culture, though their names and stories differ somewhat. All of these legends speak of a time before the gods, when the titans ruled. When the first gods, the children of the titans, began their ascent to power, a war broke out in the heavens between the forces of the titans and those of the gods. The gods won and slew the titans, but the titans cannot be permanently killed. The skies, for example, remained in place despite Antominius' body being cut to hundreds of pieces. But over centuries, the avatar bodies of the titans can reform, and once that is achieved, they will once again have enough power to challenge their children. None of the titans are worshipped anymore. Here are a few titans of note, according to Tal'theran legends:

Antominius: Titan of the skies, back when the sky was a solid, silvery-white shell enveloping the lands and provided constant daylight. He is the father of some of the major gods, including Atrius, Merius, and Morteus.

Laereia: Titaness of the earth, and mother of many of the ancient creatures that dwelled upon it. The earth used to be perpetually lush and green during the age of the titans.

Rasninas: Titaness of water, from which many of the monstrosities of the deep oceans were spawned from.

Kourominos: Titan of time. He was horribly maimed during the war with the gods, but managed to escape, and is said to now be in an eternal slumber somewhere far underground.

Name: Lanu Jbina
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Occupation: Korovirian Subsistence Hunter
Brief physical description: Tall (6' even) and thin. Dark skinned, and wiry, he is the product of an untamed land deep in the Korovirian jungles. His head is clean shaven, and his eyes are brown.
Abilities: He is an excellent shot with his hunter's bow, an early composite bow of his own design. He is also proficient in the use of throwing sticks, spears, and javelins, and is able to make most of these weapons with material he finds on his hunts. Though he appears thin and weak, he is quite strong. He also has the uncanny ability to light a fire in any condition (wet, windy, etc.) using only his hands (slight magic). Is familiar with knives used to skin animals, and could potentially use them to fight.
Place of origin: Damir Tribe, Central Korovir
Weakness/Vice: He's weak in close quarters with any weapon, although he is skilled in hand to hand combat. He'd lose in any sword fight with anything beyond a novice swordsman. Naive to mainland ways and oblivious to political situations on the mainland.

Place of Origin: Eavana, Gaireth Protectorate
Weakness/Vice: Very weak in using ranged weapons. Nald is defenseless against magic. Trusts people way too easily He is naïve to the world outside of the families’ farm. Women.

Name: Thibault Niv (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/Luporum/Picture018.jpg)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Occupation: Treasure Hunter/Grave Robber
Brief physical description: Stands at Six foot, three inches he tends to be taller than most. Slender physique with a rugged face, mostly covered by long unkempt brown hair. Very quite, only speaks for an important reason.
Abilities: Capable with a blade from traveling with bandits and the republican army. Very fast, and fairly agile; he was a message runner during his years in service.
Place of Origin: Tal'theran Republic
Weakness/Vice:Gold. His style with a blade results in sacrificing himself to create an opening. His body is covered in scars because of this. His left arm was wounded badly during his time in service and is rendered useless for all but the most simple of tasks.

Deities: Thibault believes he has been blessed by Fortulia the god of luck. The average bandit lives to the age of twenty, yet he alone has lived twice as long as his companions. To pay homage to the god for his blessing, he carriers two silver die with him at all times. However, at times he jokingly admits to being the descendant of Peraclus.

Before every drink he whispers. "Praise my luck, praise my speed. Praise Fortulia and Peraclus, the only gods I'll ever need."

That is some sweet paint work. Are you going to add cities to the map?
Rhinara
03-08-2007, 16:47
Thanks for the compliments ^_^ And yeah, I'll be adding cities and other details when I get the chance.

Nice char, Lup. I've already got ideas for incorporating all three of the chars so far created.

As for restricted species, offhand, no. The standard species, are, of course, allowed. Humans are the dominant ones in this world. Basically, any species that aren't too far from these are fine. Anything beyond that (ie people with inherent immunities, giants, dragons etc.), y'all can TG me to discuss. As mentioned, I'd like this to be less focused on how many people you can beat up, and more on using strategy and cunning to even the odds. This isn't like the first person shooters where you can get hit a hundred times before dying - nay, this is like the first person shooters where a single bullet to the head will instantly kill you.

Now, this doesn't mean I'm going to be killing off your characters right and left. You guys still have ultimate control over that. But if your character does something really stupid, well, like in the real world, there will be consequences to your actions.

There will be gods in this world, although they aren't too active in it (or else beating the baddies would simply be a matter of praying to your gods every time). I'll put up more info about the gods in the first post some time. In short, though, the more powerful your god is, the less likely they'll answer your prayer (although the more you please that god, the better chances you have). These are akin to the Greco-Roman Olympians, who can change the outcome of entire battles. On the other end of the spectrum to the Olympians are the Roman house gods, in which every house has their own protector. These little guys will be much more likely to answer your prayers, although their power is severely limited due to their lack of worshippers. I think I will determine whether or not the prayers are answered. People from the Republic and Protectorate can pretty much follow this system (you can wait until I write up more detail on it, or you can make up your own god anywhere in the spectrum if you don't want to wait).

Other lands will have different systems. Korovir is a tad more primordial than the Republic, and won't have certain things like gods/goddesses of love, etc. Their deities are more landscape-oriented. The god of the mountain range So-And-So, or the goddess of the forest, or of the lake, or of the field, etc.

I haven't delved too deeply into the Magocracy or the Empire yet, so you can make something up there if you want and I'll try to incorporate it into the mythos.

Hope this helps some!

Name: Viktor "The Chronicler" Zhalfus
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 46
Occupation: Court Historian of the Eringaard Magocracy
Brief physical description: Tall and thin. He is pale skinned from much too much time spent musing over dusty tomes, ancient histories and myths in libraries. His medium length black hair is kept tied back out of his green eyes.
Abilities: He has considerable magical power, and though he boasts knowledge of a variety of spells from his studies and training, he has rarely - almost never - had to use them in combat. Though his specialty had always been more subversive magics, distractions, trickery and other non-lethal measures.
Place of origin: Eringaard Magocracy
Weakness/Vice: His relatively sheltered lifestyle has kept him away from real combat and the mainstay of his magical arsenal comes mainly from spells he was taught long before or ones he had learnt from old texts and has done little more than practice with. He is unskilled in close combat, though he has been known to give those who annoy him a good solid thwack to the head with an old staff from time to time. He has a dislike for unnecessary death and though he knows destructive spells is loathe to use them, preferring to restrain or confuse enemies.

Deity: While not truly religious, he does pay homage to Lündell and whenever appropriate has given some attention to the Grimfel. He rarely visits temples of Heimlin except if it is necessary in his work.

Cool, Kitab.

I've posted a slightly updated version of the map. I haven't gotten around to drawing out the little cities, towns, and villages yet, but there's a big red dot where some of the capitals are. Korovir doesn't have a centralized government, and the Empire's capital is just outside of the map.

I probably won't be able to log on (not much, anyways) over the weekend, so just keep the chars/ideas coming and I'll keep updating on Monday. And if we have everyone signed up by then, maybe we could get started on the RPing shortly thereafter!

Name: Bean'le Kiten Letas
Race: Elven(Dark)
Gender: Male
Age: 140(comparative to human 19)
Occupation: Warrior/Assassin
Brief physical description: Obsidian black skin, silver hair(shaved sides small mohawk), violet eyes, slender build, 5'6", often wears hooded cloaks and gloves to conceal physical appearence.
Abilities: Skilled at fighting, and in situations of near/zero visibility, has an 'instinctive danger-sense' and ability to navigate underground. Can get into 'anywhere' with relative ease. Can use minor magics helpful to an assassin(such as spells to pass without a trace, invisibility and to climb walls/ceilings), uses poisons, highly agile.
Place of origin: House Letasren, Che'el d' Mithuth, Underdark
Weakness/Vice: Dominant females, orders from females sun/bright light, relatively frail, semi-paranoid
Deities: None generally, a few in certain circumstances, primarily dark elven gods and ones relevent to him.

Well, here's my character.

Name: William MacDonnalbar MacElry MacAwthywr. Goes by Will.
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Occupation: Mage, Mercenary
Appearance: About 6'1" in height and 185 lbs, William has grey eyes and shoulder length red hair, which he ties behind his head. He wears a specially made cloak designed to conceal his swords, which also doubles as mediocre impact protection.
Place of Origin: Eringaard Magocracy, born on the coast just northwest of Dieraan.
Abilities: William is a mage, specializing in evocative ballistics and wards. Essentially, he's an on-the-fly spell slinger that uses mostly direct offensive spells (favors lightning and earth) and broad spectrum defensive barriers. However, his style inherently makes it sloppy, requiring some mitigating control, in addition to his compulsions. To account for this, he is proficient with spears and blades, though not a master. His magic, though under a very strict set of bans, is innate, and not based upon rituals or spell memorization.
Weaknesses: The most important aspect of his magic is a total and complete ban on causing death or permanent damage with his magic. If he tries, or puts enough power into his spells to inadvertently cause major bodily harm or death, the spells will short circuit, doing nothing, and occasionally backfiring. His arsenal is thus only as useful as his ingenuity. He is untrained with ranged weapons, and often finds himself at a disadvantage against one who does know the ways of the bow and arrow, incapable to deal "death from a distance" and unable to utilize conventional swordwork.

Deity: William worships "The One Above All," an unnamable deity that weaves all in His or Her master plan. William pays tribute to Death as well, though his devotion is to this supreme being without name or form.

I was thinking about making that forest south of Eringaard something elf related, and with Theao's char, I shall go with that idea. If you want, Theao, your guy can be from below that forest. The Republic has made excursions into the forest before, but has met with resistance from the dark elves, and so has avoided sending in more people for the time being. The peninsula south of that forest will be Republic territory, with a Greek influence and a strong naval history.

Arthur, the supreme being in this world will probably be like Illuvatar from Lord of the Rings, a sort of hands-off clockmaker. Like Illuvatar, there will be people worshiping and praying to him/her/it (like with Faramir), but don't expect him/her/it to intercede in events. As for the ban, I don't see any problem with it (especially if the ban is self-imposed). Do you want your character to be from the Eringaard Magocracy (probably the best place to fit him into), or elsewhere?

I was thinking about making that forest south of Eringaard something elf related, and with Theao's char, I shall go with that idea. If you want, Theao, your guy can be from below that forest. The Republic has made excursions into the forest before, but has met with resistance from the dark elves, and so has avoided sending in more people for the time being. The peninsula south of that forest will be Republic territory, with a Greek influence and a strong naval history.

If you don't mind could we stay, generally, with the traditionalish concept of the Underdark. Also dark elves live underground(typically due to problems with things like bright light) and generally only come above ground to raid(there being a few exceptions but not many).

That's fine, Theao. I was just trying to come up with something that'll help to explain why your char would be roaming around in the sunlight with a bunch of surface dwellers ;)

Heh heh, Lup, for some reason that drawing makes me think of Jack Sparrow. Good work.

Alright, DMG. Korovir would probably be a good place. That'll actually help me out a bit.

And the following people have a TG from me: Canadstein, Luporum, Kitab, Arthur, and Tanara.

The ground itself is suffering problems and you don't think perhaps those that lived underground might be interested in avoiding being crushed or worse?

Also, allies are very helpful when many people are likely to try to kill you simply on principle.

Hope I'm not too late to sign up for this.

Name: Fayalin (Faye) Leishan
Species: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Height: 5’2” / 157cm
Skin: pale white
Eyes: bright green Hair: red, shoulder length
Build: slender, graceful
Occupation: Healer
Abilities:Faye’s skills and knowledge are somewhat lacking when it comes to healing the wounded or sick, as she had the misfortune never to be taught her art, and was forced to pick up her knowledge second-hand by observing and questioning others. However, what she does know, she knows well, and has shown an aptitude for her chosen path, despite her lack of training. She also has rudimentary skills with the long ash staff and dirk she carries for her own protection.
Hometown: Penrhyn, a tiny forest village in the Gaireth Protectorate
Weakness: Somewhat shy, she can have difficulty in approaching strangers, and often finds herself afraid of imposing figures or large crowds. Her small stature means she lacks physical strength and is easily overlooked in a crowd or manhandled by others, and her lack of real skill with her weapons means that she usually has to rely on others to protect her in any form of violent confrontation.
Deity: A devout follower of Eovia, she hopes that her devotion will heal what her skills cannot. In her youth, she heard stories about those blessed by the gods with magical powers, and she secretly dreams that some day her devotion might lead to her being blessed with the power to restore to health even the most gravely ill and severely wounded. She also, like many others, pays occasional homage to Fortulia, hoping for good luck in her endeavours.

Character #2:

Name: Icarus Fick
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Occupation: Geomancer Adept
Height: 5' 9"
Hair: Jet Black
Eyes: Dark Green
Build: Thin, fit, well muscled
Abilities: Localized control of the force causing the ground to change and reform. Thus, he can create localized earth based magic (small earth quakes, rock spikes, etc.).
Place of origin: Eringaard Magocracy
Weakness/Vice: No weapons training, and he's young and hot headed.
Deity: Worshipped Heimlin as an apprentice under the great mage, Ducard, but has since changed to worshipping Lundell, as a little luck will win out over just about anything.

Important to point out, Geomancers are born, not trained and possess a natural affinity for the manipulation of the starfall power. They have only existed as long as the effects of the starfall have been seen and are exceedingly rare. Those born in Eringaard have their skills honed through careful study and practice under the watchful eyes of the archmages. They are usually employed to protect cities from the effects of the starfall.

If he seems over powered, I'll work it out with you Rhinara.

Name: Orome
Race: 1/4 Kami - 3/4Human
Gender: Female
Age: 125
Occupation: Wanderer- Kinsai and Healer -
Height: 5' 9" Wt: 135ish
Hair: Sooty Black, wavey falling to waist
Eyes: Chatoyant blue green, 'cat pupiled'
Complexion: Very fair with a faint pearlescent sheen, from her being part Kami
Build: athletically feminine but not overly endowed, in near perfect physical condition, somewhat stronger than a human female of her height and build
Abilities: Preternaturally adept in Combat / Healing
Place of origin: Ni Hongo
Weakness/Vice: Healing / Combat is a balancing act - if she enters in to combat she gains energy that she must use to Heal ( others only ) within 24 hours or she goes into a tierd response of pain, tremmors, convulsions, coma - and vice versa - senses can be overwhelmed/ attacked, she can be short tempered and arrogant
Deities: Bishamon - litterally her 'God' father, He blessed her at birth with skill at War/ Combat; Kua Ti Tang her 'God' mother- angry at Bishamon's appearance at Her ceremony She gave more than She had originally intended and thus put limits on it, and what Bishamon gifted as well. Lesson number 1 -Don't piss a goddess off unless you are prepared to deal with the consequences. Lesson number 2 - when leaving home ground don't expect your gods to tag along with you.

Bio: Orome was born in a nation, and to a people that no longer exists as a discernable nation/ culture. Her mother was half Human - half Kami, a treaty bride. Orome has inherited only some of her mother's non human abilities - her hearing, eyesight, low light vision, sense of smell and touch are sharper than a human but not equal that of a cat or dog. What she has inherited is her mothers extended life span, though she is as mortal as any.

Her parents are dead and the court she grew up in is gone with them, as is the nation of Ni Hongo, overwhelmed by raiders from the northern wastelands. Her brother turned traitor allied with the raiders and brought down the Wards that kept Ni Hongo safe. He still sends assassins after Orome, who had already left home after a fight with her parents. He's afraid of her, and wants her dead.

She journeys the world searching out new training in the arts of combat and healing, and doing her best to stay a few steps ahead of her brother. She is partners with a Helcorn, an intelligent carnivorous equinid named Black Fang.

Updated the first post to include a Titans section. This won't be playing a big role in the RP (at least, not yet). It's mainly there for some additional backstory for the world.

And you're not too late at all, Free Eagles! The more, the merrier.

No worries, DMG. Your health's always more important than an RP is. But I think I'm gonna get this going for the people who are ready, and you can jump in when the time is right.

Rhinara
Name: Tovius Veralion
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Occupation: Legionary centurion
Brief physical description: Slightly on the short side, Tovius stands at 5'4", and has a medium build. He has sandy brown hair, cropped short as is standard in the Republic's legions.
Abilities: Tovius is skilled in fighting in legionary formations with the shortsword and pilum/javelin, but also has some experience in fighting solo with longswords. As a recently promoted commander of a century, he has some leadership abilities, but he is still a little unsure of himself sometimes.
Place of origin: Tal'theran Republic
Weakness/Vice: In the legions, he normally deals with non-magical armies and creatures, so he's a bit lacking in the magical defense department if on his own. Being in a strict military profession, dissension within the ranks would often irk him.
Deity: His primary loyalty is to Merius, since he grew up as a fisherman. However, he has paid his respects to Theras and Atrius, as per his duties to the legion and the Republic.

Regenius

Name: Icarus Fick
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Occupation: Geomancer Adept
Height: 5' 7"
Hair: Jet Black
Eyes: Dark Green
Build: Thin, fit, well muscled
Brief physical description:
Abilities: Localized control of the force causing the ground to change and reform. Thus, he can create localized earth based magic (small earth quakes, rock spikes, etc.).
Place of origin: Eringaard Magocracy
Weakness/Vice: No weapons training, and he's young and hot headed.
Deity: Worshipped Heimlin as an apprentice under the great mage, Ducard, but has sinced change to worshipping Lundell, as a little luck will win out over just about anything.

Canadstein
Name: Nald Snydv
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 17
Occupation: Farmer
Brief physical description: 5'9" with a medium build. Hair is White-blond and short. His eyes are light grey. Has a slight tan from working in the fields of his families' farm.
Abilities: Nald has some basic skills with a sword, but is very far from becoming an expert with one. Strong, but has a limit. Almost an expert horseman, but still occasionally has some problems while riding. Nald has also displayed to have almost lighting fast reflexes.
Place of origin: Eavana, Gaireth Protectorate
Weakness/Vice: Very weak in using ranged weapons. Nald is defenseless against magic. Trusts people way too easily He is naïve to the world outside of the families’ farm. Women.
Deity: Nald often prays to Eovia, goddess of fertility, so that his families' farm has a good crop and a bountiful harvest.

Luporum
Name: Thibault Niv (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v723/Luporum/Picture018.jpg)
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 42
Occupation: Treasure Hunter/Grave Robber
Brief physical description: Stands at Six foot, three inches he tends to be taller than most. Slender physique with a rugged face, mostly covered by long unkempt brown hair. Very quite, only speaks for an important reason.
Abilities: Capable with a blade from traveling with bandits and the republican army. Very fast, and fairly agile; he was a message runner during his years in service.
Place of origin: Tal'theran Republic
Weakness/Vice: Gold. His style with a blade results in sacrificing himself to create an opening. His body is covered in scars because of this. His left arm was wounded badly during his time in service and is rendered useless for all but the most simple of tasks.
Deity: Thibault believes he has been blessed by Fortulia the god of luck.

Kitab Al-Ibar

Theao
Deity: None generally, a few in certain circumstances, primarily dark elven gods and ones relevent to him.

King Arthur the Great
Name: William MacDonnalbar MacElry MacAwthywr. Goes by Will.
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 29
Occupation: Mage, Mercenary
Brief physical description: About 6'1" in height and 185 lbs, William has grey eyes and shoulder length red hair, which he ties behind his head.

Species: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Height: 5’2” / 157cm
Skin: pale white

Name: Elva 'Myael (pronounced fluidly)
Race: High-Elf (turn Wood-Elf)
Gender: Female
Age: 192 (comparative to human 26)
Height: 5'10"
Occupation: Druid
Appearance: Elva (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/DMG2005/Elva.jpg)
Abilities:
-Power over nature (magic and control); the ability to control and manipulate all types of flora and persuade fauna to follow her command.
-Shapeshifting; an eagle, any feline animal, or a bear.
Place of origin: Born in Tal'theran Republic (though she wouldn't say so), but home is the woods of Korovir.
Weakness/Vice: Living a relatively solitude life, devoid of much
"intelligent" interaction, she does not generally trust others, especially those who work on behalf of their nation. While having a vast amount of experience against the average foe, she has rarely fought those who are decently powerful or skilled, thus she is not the best fighter against true enemies.
Deity: As a druid, Elva prays more to spirits and nature itself rather than specific deities. However, there were always those more special spirits like Allekar, a female protector associated with a large cedar in the southern forest in which she resided. But if she moved to another forest or land, then Elva would most likely take up the spirits of the land.

Elves Security Forces
Name: Jaso Phor Mar'tach
Race: Elf (light)
Gender: Male
Age: 379
Occupation: Swordsmith and Bowyer/Militia Captain
Brief physical description: Slender but slight muscular build. Stands at 5'11" with shoulder length silver hair that is usually kept in a ponytail to keep out of the way. Has an unnusual set of dark blue eyes that send chills down the spines of most of the folk in Eavana
Abilities: An expert swordsman and adqeute with a bow on horseback. His militia say he has a calming "aura" on them that tends to bring out their potential when engaged in otherwise unfavorable odds.
Place of origin: Eavana, Gaireth Protectorate
Weakness/Vice: A slight overconfidence that has him acting before he thinks in battle that sometimes leads him to getting seperated from his troops in battle.
Deity: A devout follower of Atrius for his connection with fire and how Jaso uses it to create his weapons as well as paying occasional homage to Selenia whenever he has to work well into the night to complete his orders.

He is also rumored to be a decendant of the minor elf god Icacius, whose domain is virtue and cunning, but is always quick to change the subject whenever it is brought up.

And so, it begins.

For some people (Regenius/Lanu), it'll be obvious when your char should jump in. For everyone else, I'll send you a TG for when to jump in.

And at least for the beginning, when everyone's separated, if you could include a brief description in bold of where you are (ie Thera/Tal'theran Republic, Eindaal/Eringaard Magocracy, etc), that'd be great to help keep things organized.

If you have something along the lines of the other intros planned for me, could you keep in mind that typically male dark elves are about three places ahead of slaves and one behind the average house pet in the social scheme of things and while the house and to a lesser extent the city he hails from is 'liberal' as far as some are concerned it is still fairly repressive.

Rhi, I assume those last couple of sentences in the Korovir section are indicating my character? (In which case I should wait until Lanu comes to the southern forest in search).

Yup, that'd be your character being refered to.

If you're going by the Tal'theran pantheon (which I don't think Elva would, seeing as how she doesn't admit to being from Tal'thera), Davaria is the goddess of the wilds, which generally includes forests.

If you're going by the Korovirian system, then they worship local spirits and deities specific to the immediate area. You can make one up, or you can go with Allekar, a female protector deity associated with an extremely large cedar in your area that towers over all the other ones around it.

You've also a TG, btw.

Hopefully, this is still open.

Hi to everyone who recognizes my character as well!

Name:Selim Savid
Race:Human
Gender:Male
Age:Looks to be in his mid-30's.
Occupation:Bard/Antique collector/Traveler
Brief physical description:A physically short man at 5'3", black hair and green eyes. He wears a variety of silks and fine cloth, and carries a large backpack full of enchanted items and weapons to use in combat.
Abilities:Instead of engaging in physical combat, Selim instead uses proxy weapons and creatures such as summoned Golems and Chimeras to fight for him, acting as a puppet master rather than a brawler. Selim is also an accomplished musician with many instruments.
Place of origin:Unknown. Sometimes rumored to be from The Wastelands, but this is likely untrue.
Weakness/Vice:Terribly weak in almost all forms of combat, save for running away. He is very rude, unnecessarily mysterious, and extremely untrustworthy, giving most people he meets a bad first impression. He is a little too fond of chasing after money and women as well.
Deity:Atheist

You could close it, but IMO I think it would be better to leave it as it is. If it feels like it is getting crowded, you can always deny people... but as RPs go, people tend to drop out at some point or another, and they can always be filled with new people's characters (mid way through the RP).

But whatever, I honestly don't care.

Black Fang will eat you just as impartially as he'd eat any one not Orome.

Orome wouldn't much care what race Kiten is, she's seen worse, she's killed worse, but if she finds out Kiten is an assassin, then she'd feed him to Black Fang. She has a small problem with assassins at the moment - namely they all seem to be in her brother s pay...and being the practical sort, will kill Kten just to be safe...

but until she finds out his profession she'll just give him hell over his name...

Yes, but in this particular case, your opinion doesn't matter. It's Rhinara's RP, and if Rhinara decides that, for the purposes of this RP, vampires are undead, and that there shall be no undead in the RP, then it's not happening. (That came out rather negative, didn't it?)

Also, a post will go up tomorrow morning. For I must sleep....

Weakness/Vice: Power.

Is that his vice, or weakness?

As in is he easily physically overpowered, or is he just overly ambitious?

Ya know I am just laughing myself silly at the thought of you standard inn room - even a suite with a common room with bedrooms opening off of it - filled with the usual furniture, three people and their repast, then add in three more people with a Hellcorn.

Your average horse stands 15 hands high at the shoulder, and weighs about 900 to 1000 pounds - generally takes up a space about that of four and a half feet in width by about seven feet in lenght.

Black Fang stands about 19 hands at the shoulder and weights in at a ton, and his mere presence demands a minimum room of about eight feet wide and about ten feet long...and did I mention that wickedly pointed horn?

Getting him out of there will be ...interesting.

Perhaps it happens to have abnormally large doors in case strange horses get magically warped inside? :D

@Vanek: Magic is magic... like high fantasy, elemental magic.

Funny?

Erm, well if you want an demon with an overly large ego currently ensconsed in a fleshly form < why would a demon do this, you ask? As at your own risk, I haven't quite ever had the nerve to. He's got a shorter temper than I do.> complete with horn, fangs and claws - all of which he is not ony experienced but very willing to use- getting po'ed...

I guess it'd be funny ( dubious voice )

But congrats man... now bring it home

Thanks, everyone. Don't think I've actually heard of any dads saying no, but it's still a bit scary. As for asking her, I'm 99.99% sure she'll say yes (still scary). Now I just gotta think of a good way to go about it - her dad suggested doing something romantic, which I think applies to almost every proposal. I'm thinking beach with white candles in the sand at sunset...

DMG: Think of your your average New England coniferous forests. There's undergrowth/bushes, but not too many vines (the ones that buried the captain and two spearmen literally grew out of nowhere). There can be a couple of vines if you really need some. There could be an animal here or there, but not large predatory ones, as this area is inhabited by humans. Maybe a small bobcat.
