1) Must be my ESL thing. Sorry about that. I like switching narration to the character's viewpoint sometimes to give a better dramatic impact. (i.e. The man with orange eyes walked slowly. - Augustus doesn't know anyone's name apart from the Prince.) I'm a bit weird like that. The italic words is not his, as you might have guessed.

2) Right. I'm afriad I imagined the scene in my mind to be more lively and kind of more like a winter forest, than a dead marsh. Just take my character's words as sarcastic then.

I reckoned it was night when there was the ambush.

Early morning when Augustus wakes up - Zeratul arrives.

And Early Afternoon when Mavis attacks.

And right now would probably be afternoon.

Fine by me (but it is still dark - it is a land of perpetual darkness where the sun is never seen and the sky is always black).

Name: Jarad

Race: Undead Devkarin Elf

Age: 79

Alignment: Neutral Good

Profession/Class: Devkarin Huntmaster; Guildmaster of the Golgari.

Skills and Special abilities: Expert hunter; Trained in the necromatic arts; Control over insects.

Weight: 176

Height: 6'4

Special Items: http://www.spiderwebart.com/images/art/105675a.jpg
Golgari Signet- The Signet is a symbol of Jarad's status among the Devkarin people as the Golgari Guildmaster, leader of the Devkarin people. It is also a focusing point for magic, allowing his to raise the undead and control them more easily.

Weakness: Undeath has not removed Jarad's natural apt for combat, but it has slightly hampered his agility. He is also easier to wound because of his necrotic flesh.

Bio: Jarad was born to be a Huntmaster, his sister, Savra, a Priestest. Both achieved their station, and operated as they were supposed to under the harsh rule of the Gorgon sisters. Things however, do not always remain unchanged. Savra met an unknown Guildmaster of an unkown guild; Szadek of the Dimir. Through manipulation, he guided Savra to awaken the Golgari pauron(founder), Svogther the god-zombie who had been imprisoned by the Gorgon sisters years past. They could not however the pauron, and with her apt for necromatic magic, Savra freed the insane god-zombie, binding him to her will. With her new tool, the sisters of stone death fell easily, and Savra announced herself as Guildmaster. After a short rule, however, the vampire Szadek rose up from the ground and snapped her neck. After Szadek was arrested and imprisoned, devoured and weakened by his own servant, Lupul, Jarad was named Guildmaster of the Golgari guild. Jarad ruled over the Devkarin fairly for twelve years, untill that day his son was kidnapped by a caravan of Rakdos thrill-killers. Using his insects, he and his ex-wife infiltrated Rix-Madi, freeing their son in the middle of a Rakdos blood-ritual awakening the demon-god and pauron, Rakdos. In disrupting the ritual, their son was bound to the demon for a short period of time. Jarad went to search for the mad blood-witch who had performed the ritual and found himself captured. After being stabbed in the heart, Jarad found himself dead and abandoned. With the last bit of energy he had, he urged his ghost into his body, sustaining it with necrotic energy.

I have long since stopped caring about other people in general.

You could say something is broke inside once I realized that three/four people die per second.

That made it cold and turn the endings of brilliant, happy people into cold heartless statistics. Each possibly wonderful person, their lives a tale of adventure, struggle and perhaps romance ended abruptedly, and you didn't even knew about it. Finally they ended up forgotten, when those that remembered him/her waste away as well.

The only difference now between a friend's death and a stranger's is that you haven't the chance to befriend the stranger.

I think I would still cry, because I am young, but I shiver at the thought that later on I might lack sufficent remorse at the grave of a loved one.

I have the perfect job for you. They are #1 on my personal axis of evil, and have their own circle in hell (Dante forgot this one.). Health Insurance Underwriter... the scourge of the earth. People=money. They are going to really hate their circle in hell.

How many people have you been close to died? Have you ever seen a person die in front of you? Have you ever had a relative die a horrible death?

Lack sufficient remorse? I think the opposite is going to happen for you in time. By the way, how many births are there per second? More than deaths.

You can't live your life by statistics... *shudders*.

Stop caring about people: What people do because they are afraid of loss...
Balanite

I think I enjoy this discussion. You are not subtle in your words. However, I think you might have misunderstood me a bit.

I don't know what a Health Insurance Underwriter is, or why you hated them so much, who is Dante, and even what is a circle of hell. I understand hell though.

I meant I could care about other people, how they are just like me, yet unique in their own way, just like a snowflake. They are very fragile like a snowflake as well.

A simple bullet, will remove from existance the complex tale of intrigue and human emotions of that person's life. His/Her inner secrets, thoughts and memories. The greatest story the person could tell. They could have been a widower greaving his wife's loss, or a son looking for approval from his father via hard work, a saint's inner conflict between his wishes and his moral codes, a crook's backstory, a murderer's past etc.

I couldn't sleep if I thought like that, thinking of all the things I would miss, and when it was anyone I know's turn. So I don't. I will then force myself into the world, make a big bang of things and do what I like in general.

Caring for others does not equal impoliteness in my dictionary. I might find it hard to make friends due to my beliefs, but I'll be damned if I will be a jerk for the sake of it.

Of course, this is merely my belief as a youth, subject to change perhaps further into my life.

Dante is from 'The Divine Comedy', he's a man that enters hell and passes through the nine levels/circles of hell, each for a different form of punishment, going deeper into hell for the worse sine or something along those lines. The story continues, but that should answer you.

That's a good view, if more people had it i'm sure life would be better, i kind of adhere to it i'm not a jerk if i can avoid it, though i just don't make friends because of my outlook on life. :p

I look at most of this with a logical eye, death has never really bothered me much, it's going to happen sooner or later (preferably later) and it's better that we get on with our lives than worry about it or go to pieces when somebody we know dies, they probably wouldn't have wanted it and you probably don't either. Though i also have some belief in fate, so it's not like it could have been avoided. Just to clarify, i wouldn't look down on someone who did go to pieces, i just probably wouldn't myself.

Some people would call me heartless (though a better word might be emotionless), they might be right, others might disagree, i can be both. I'm not going to launch into a description of my personality so i'll let you make your own conclusions.

How old are you then? I'm quite young myself.

Dante' was the author also, and there were 9 levels with various subdivisions. I read it a long time ago, however. I kept thinking there were only 7 levels... OK #10 is for Health Insurance Underwriters. :p

As you go through life, your ideals will change, your opinions on many things will change, and your views on death will change.

Your experiences will shape those views.

It is also possible that the emotions are subconscious and some day they will burst out. I've seen that happen plenty. It has happened to me.

I am older than all of you... (shut up DMG... he thinks I was there for the Big Bang  ), and I see everything I thought when I was a teenager, and how my beliefs, opinions, and emotions changed through life and through experience. I never thought they would when I was younger, but things change...

I often think there are 7, one for each of the 'deadly sins', but i've heard about the nine levels fairly often, there was a quiz somewhere that says where you should end up.

The large world population makes me feel that lives are somehow less special. Somehow like a platform filled with people, and a treasure chest in the middle. I stand at one of the edges, shoving myself to the middle, ignorant of the fact that my pushes will knock off others off the platform on the opposite side.

I still don't know what a Health Insurance Underwriter is, but the word insurance gives me a clue why you hated them.

It isn't like there is a certain amount of 'specialness' for the entire human race and every time the population goes up, the 'specialness' of any one person has to go down to balance out the relation.

I've kind of come to the conclusion that the world would be a better place if a lot more fell off the platform as you put it, in almost all senses. Less people = less use of energy = less polution = less destruction of earth. I figure it's a win win situation, sure it would be sad for a while, but in the end it's better for everyone.

Life IS shades of grey. You've got that right! Rarely is there a black and white.

Unfortunately, the world population is growing at an alarming rate, and most of the growth is in areas that are so over-populated now that there will not be enough resources to support them.

You are correct about the population issue.

However, the "unwashed masses" to the ones we want to push off the platform are "US" in their eyes. We're the nobodys they don't know, and can do without.

Personally, maybe in our lifetime, my idea of armageddon is not nuclear nor geological. It's bacterial and viral. The cutting down of rainforests, for one, is releasing species of animals and insects and different hosts and vectors for bacteria and viruses never before seen. Many are incurable. (Look at Ebola, for example... if the lifespan after contracting the disease wasn't so short, that could have been the end of the world. However, most of them don't make it even 5 days.)

Yep, the end of the human race will come from bacteria and viruses. I have no doubt. And, the time the human race has will have occupied this planet is but a blip in the lifespan of the earth and even smaller in cosmic time.

We are extremely insignificant in the larger sense. Just a dot in time.

However, we live, love, have lives, and such, and will until the human race is extinct. The dinosaurs will have occupied the earth vastly longer than the human race. And the earth will continue to evolve, until eventually, in a long period of cosmic time, Andromeda and the Milkyway collide, and the various gravities and the two black holes will rearrange everything into a huge galaxy where perhaps the circumstances will be right for the evolution of intelligent (I use that term loosely), beings.

Also, there is life in other areas of the universe. Quite likely far more advanced than us, and some less advanced. To think that humans on earth are the only intelligent beings in the universe is arrogant and idiotic. In all of the universe, to think that we are the only intelligent life is just ridiculous!

We are insignificant over time. However, we still live and grow and learn and try to enjoy life. The way it should be.

So, don't let the little things get you down. Imagine it this way, in 100 years will anyone care that you were severely embarrassed by something or another? Nadda!

One interesting thing to do over time, is watch how you have affected or changed others' lives. It is so rewarding, there is nothing better.

Spontaneous combustion of health insurance underwriters would also add to my happiness. :D

Perhaps someone could ask Death if someone could RP his chars until he gets settled. Previously it was Ravea, remember? Perhaps that could be done again...
