Peace Conference, Gwazzaria
Foreign Minister Jonathon Chilkevich had requested an auto escort to the Bismark. Not that he disliked flying no, but he wanted to see something of the city as the people there might experience it. Granted, this did interfere with traffic somewhat, but the ride was relatively quick and Chilkevich was rather impressed with what he saw. He noted some of the more impressive elements of Gwazzarian architecture and city planning and made a few notes to bring back to his own country.
Arriving at the Bismark, Chilkevich stepped out of the limousine that carried him, two of his staffers, and two unarmed security men. He glanced up at the building before being escorted inside and to the section marked for the delegation from 23Eris where he waited patiently for the delegates of other nations to arrive.
The rebel delagation has requested that no firearms be brought into the Bismark building. To further support their request, their security detatchment has surrendered its weapons (each security man had a sidearm, nothing more.)
- Also: The Loyalist delagation has "agreed in principle", but will not disarm its security men until everyone else has agreed to do so.
The Loyalists have managed to secure most of their arms shippment, but a good deal of it was intercepted by the Free Danteri Navy, operating in International Waters. No one was harmed during the seizure of some 450 Eryx anti-tank missiles and some 10,000 rifles, shotguns and machineguns.
All of the civilian crew members who were seized are being released, as are the Loyalist soldiers who were supposed to guard the ships. As for the weapons, it appears that the rebels intend to make use of them themselves. Whether or not this violates the peace treaty remains to be seen...
Throughout Loyalist held Danteri, several hundred individuals, including Loyalist officers, were arrested on charges of "anti-government activity" - it is believed that this has something to do with the anti-peace terrorists who have recently struck at civilians and Loyalist soldiers.
- 560 civilians and 135 members of the Loyalist military have been arrested. Currently, they are being held without trial by Danteri Government Security.

While it was requested that no one within the perimeter be armed during the confernce, Gwazzarian security isn't actually doing any but the most routine of searches. Security seems very lax, and it's mostly assumed that the honor code will work in this situation.
More keen observers in the Bismarck building will notice numerous security cameras, hidden and not, even in the bathrooms. Bugs, as well, have been sprinkled around the hallways.
Zachary Mitas arrived late to the meeting in Gwazzaria, on the morning of the first day of the conference. He and his two bodyguards quickly checked into their hotel room, left their things, and made their way quickly to the Bismarck Building, where they arrived just in time to hear the rebel delegation suggest that all delegations check their firearms at the door. Mitas, knowing Haraki was a neutral participant and therefore less likely to be shot, prepared to do so, albeit fairly reluctantly. Mitas himself was unarmed, but his two bodyguards were. Each carried a standar sidearm, a Harakian variant of the USP Compact, one in 9mm and one in .40, plus one of the men carried a smaller sidearm in an ankle holster. The two men were also large and fairly well-versed in unarmed combat, as it was part of their HIA Security Detail training.
They prepared to surrender their weapons, although if at all possible the smaller ankle holster gun would be kept as extra assurance. However, it was a Gwazzarian conference, and so they would play by Gwazzarian rules. Ideally, Mitas would manage to convince the Gwazzarians to seperate security details from diplomats altogether, and just have one big room for the diplomats to confer in, and maybe a lounge for the bodyguards. Where the others could get drunk and the HIA men could watch on with quiet bemusement. He almost chuckled even thinking about it.
Zachary Mitas is a somewhat short man. He has a small, trimmed beard and goatee, and his short hair and beard are greying black. His two associates are large men, with customary dark sunglasses and black suits.
The Loyalist delagation is made up of the following (OOC: I'm only giving details on the four "diplomats" as the others are unimportant...)
- Harold Von Nord-Lund: Senior Agent in Danteri Government Security, masterminded the systematic round up of members of socialist and communist groups that occured early in the war. In many ways, he could be considered a war criminal.
In his earlier life, however, he served in the Danteri Army, reaching the rank of Colonel before being recruited into DGS. While he was a soldier, he apparently, during a terrorist hostage-taking, ordered his men to shoot three of the hostages the terrorists had taken to show that the government didn't care about the civilians who had been taken hostage. Needless to say, the terrorists went crazy and shot some of the other hostages, prompting him to order his men in... in the end, out of 120 hostages, only one survived.
Other than that, not much is known, other than that he was educated in the University of Southhaven.
- Steven Von Westgate: Steven Von Westgate only holds the rank of Agent in DGS, but is considered the closest that this organization has to a "diplomat"... unfortunately, the majority of the "real" Danteri diplomats were killed when Danteri City was nuked.
He has a dual degree from the University of Nord-Lund, in political science and theology, and is one of the most religious men in Danteri Government Security. He is also not a war criminal by any stretch of the imagination, something which is rare in DGS.
- Lloyd Compton: Lloyd Compton is a rare sort of individual indeed - he is a former lower class individual (his parents were farmers in Easthaven). He apparently volentarilly enlisted in the Danteri Army during the last civil war, and hasn't recieved a university education. He holds the rank of Senior Agent.
- Lastly: Thomas Von Easthaven is, all in all, an incompetant, but he is related to the late Paul Von Easthaven, and so has a position in this delegation. He holds the rank of Agent.

[High Commander Corrol]
As I know you want us to stop recruiting and reinforcing, you must convince the other nations before we will stop. Everyone is against us if this war breaks out again, and we refuse to let ourselves be taken. The rebels, the Solorians and 23Erisians? They are doing the same.
Thank you.
OOC-I'm not sure what the conference room is going to be like, or when the conference will start, so..
Lieutenant Craig ordered his bodyguards, two men in uniform, to allow their rifles to be taken. He pulled out his pistol and handed it to the officer. He gave the Gwazzarian a rude look and continued on his way. He was directed to the Conference room. When he entered, he found representatives from other nations were already there. He took his place beside the Loyalist delagates.
"This will be fun." he said sarcasticly. He noted the Rebel delagate staring him down and told himself to remember that if this thing broke down, to aim for him.

Might as well have some info on Lieutenant Craig:
Lieutenant James Craig was born into a poor farming family in Zukariaa. When he was 10, the army came knocking at his parents door on a recruiting run, because at the time Zukariaa was at war with Demoras, a neighboring country. He was 10, but they grabbed him up and trained him. He is now 32 and Lietenant. He is known for being brutal in war, making sure that those who serve under him fight on and fight on. He has been shot in his left arm, right leg, lower stomach, shoulder, and upper back. He is strong willed, even though he walks lopsided because of the many injuries he has suffered. He is tall, strongly built, and has dark hair and eyes. He has been chosen as the representative of Zukariaa because Zukariaa has no diplomats. Political activists are hung. The military, run by the Emperor, has the say in law.
Soloriel

As the Majestic ship lowered anchor some 200 miles from the Gwazzarian coast, its flight crews began preparing the transport helicopter to carry the Solorien Delegation to the conference. The members of the Holy Guard hand picked for this mission ran over final checks of equipment, as the message had stated no firearms they were busy secreting their traditional ceramic knife within various hidden pockets all over their uniform, and trenchcoats. General Khalith was taking no chances, if the Imperial Chancellor were to come to harm on this mission, then all hopes that his Emperor had of opening his borders slowly to the outside world would be dashed. And Khalith would not be the one to deliver bad news to his Emperor twice in one year.
The Chancellors Chamber.
The Chancellor looked Yagger in the eye, an approving look crossing his face. "Because my dear Captain, in Soloriel, we do not trust Diplomats, we find that soldiers are much more worthy of that respect. After all who would you trust more, a soldier trained to follow orders and tell his superiors as things are, or a diplomat trained from birth to lie through his teeth to save face?" The Chancellor let a mirthful smile cross his face. "Indeed Captain Yagger, our Emperor feels that if we are to establish outside relations with another country, then that country must be deserving of our attention, as your nation did so, with its defence of Freiburg. Despite the fact that you were severely outnumbered, outgunned and surrounded by enemys, you held on, to protect those who are weaker than you. That alone carrys great Honour." As the Chancellor spoke a man in the formal black uniform of the Holy Guard came in quietly and whispered in the Chancellors ear for a few moments, the chancellor turned to him and nodded. Well Captain I am afraid I must cut this meeting short, it appears i am required at this conference, however i shall leave you in the Capable hands of Admiral Hethran, im sure the pair of you can occupy your time on this ship, she is a beauty after all," The Chancellor stood up and moved towards the door out of his Quarters before stopping. "Admiral Perhaps you would care to show her the Chapel?" Hethran looked up, a startled look crossed his face, "of course Chancellor, whatever you wish." Hethran Stood up and escorted Yagger out, and deeper into the ship, "Would you care to stop at your quarters first Captain? Im sure you would like to try on your new clothing before we go sight seeing." Hethran smiled as he said this, and gestured towards the door in front of them of them.
"Your Grace, are you prepared?" Khalith was worried, he had never met any of these cultures before, and he did not trust them. Any one of them could have dark intentions toward the Chancellors well being. "I am fine Khalith, please do not worry yourself so. The sooner this is Concluded, the better." The Chancellor leaned back in his chair as the Helicopter made its final circle of the airport. He was, truth be told, worried. He had never had dealings with many other countrys in hislife as the Imperial Chancellor, and although he had long been the mediator of disputes between the various Lords that ruled the citys of Soloriel, he had never had to deal with a major international incident like this. He sighed deeply as the Helicopter landed, and pulled his robes hood up, concealing his features as he stepped off the Helicopter.
The Solorien Delegation has arrived.
Members are:
- The Imperial Chancellor - The Chancellor is an elderly man, in his mid 60's, he has long been the Emperors voice in matters of dispute. And is well known in Soloriel for his passion, and belief. Like most Soloriens he is absolutely dedicated to the Emperor, but as Chancellor, he also see's the suffering of the people, and attempts to ease their pain as well. Two conflicting belief, that often cause him great moral troubles.
- General Khalith - Khalith is the head of the Holy Guard, the personal protectors of the Emperor himself. Plucked straight from the ranks of the Imperial Army, he is a very Devout man, who will stop at nothing to protect his charges. As with all members of the Holy Guard, he is given extensive training in the arts of defense and attack, and is as deadly with a weapon, as he is without one.
- Agent Yarlith - Agent Yarlith is one of Khaliths top men. He is well known for his bravery and skill with the Blade, often choosing to forgo ranged weapons altogether, in favour of his blade.
- Agent Rekja - Agent Rekja is another of Khaliths top men. He is an oddity amongst the ranks of the Holy Guard, in that he is not an overtly dangerous man. Most often choosing no weapon to defend himself with. But there are whispers amongst some of the other Agents that this is because he is the Emperors Spy-Master, and has mastered the art of 'Harthu Khrel' or "Silent Death". Whether these Rumours are true or not, Rekja just smiles and says nothing when asked.
Appearance of the Delegation:
The Agents (And Khalith): These guys are wearing what at first glance appears to be just lycra uniforms. but upon closer inspection it becomes immediately apparent that this is in fact merely figure hugging black cotton. The Dulled Black boots they wear have cushioned soles, often giving them an an eery appearance indeed as they can appear from nowhere if called by their charge, with almost no sound. Around their waist they wear a dull black leather belt with an Onyx clasp. Over their hands they wear a pair of tight black cotton gloves, with thin rubber padding over the inside of the palm and along the underside of the fingers. Over all this they wear floor length black duster coats which are kept undone. They wear small earpieces on a secure frequency so that they can remain in contact with each other. and each of them has a brand on his forehead of the Emperors Sigil (Two Panthers Rampant on either side of a crown, with a a rendition of the sun enclosing it all). Khalith is a short and stock man, heavily muscled still from his days in the Imperial Infantry. He has long black hair kept tied back in a braid, and has very a ver blunt looking face. Yarlith is a taller man who is well muscled and also has long hair tied back in a Braid, although his is a dark blonde. Rekja is a very thin man who appears fairly non-descript, average face, average eyes, average height, the only thing that would make him stand out on the street (other than the mark on his forehead) is his eyes, which are a deep and intense green, that seem to dissect you as he speaks to you.also like his comrades he wears his hair long, and in a braid, his is brown.
The Chancellor: The Chancellor is an old man now, but in his youth he was considered very handsome indeed. However years of serving his country have taken their toll on him, and he is not the man he once was. Walking with a slight stoop, and a great many wrinkles, he is never seen without his staff of office. Despite his appearance however his mind is as sharp as it ever was, and his voice still holds its power to captivate and command. He is one of the shrewdest minds in Soloriel, and can easily see through others falsehoods. However as good as he is, he is still an old man, and as such his eyesight is failing him, it is a matter he is too proud to speak of, but already it is evident to those who look into his eyes, that the great darkness is coming over him, and soon he will not be able to see at all.
Having intercepted the Zukariaan communique to the Haraki, 23Eris officials put together the following reply which has been sent to the Loyalist faction as well as the Haraki.
Regarding the nessage with reference to reinforcing the armies in Danteri we offer the following. We will discontinue shipping arms to the rebel faction in Southhaven and Freiburg, however we will continue our deliveries of food and medical supplies. We are currently not, and have no intention of adding to our troop commitments to the Danteri theatre unless the peace conference breaks down. We will agree to third party inspection of supplies delivered, to ease Zukariaan and Loyalist fears of our continued arming of the People's Committee. Should this be agreeable, we are proposing an end to all arms deliveries as of acceptance of this agreement as an addendum to the current ceasefire.
-Foreign Ministry, 23Eris
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
-Of course the note fails to mention that a large percentage of the rebel forces have been given more modern arms and equipment including AT rifles and rockets. It also does not address the joint operational exercises betwen the 3rd Mechanized and the Rebel forces in Southhaven.
On Board the Solorien Vessel:
"New clothes?" Yagger asked quizzicly before remembering the uniforms the Soloriens had offered to have prepared for her. "Oh yes, the uniforms, I forgot about those for a moment," she admitted with a slight laugh.
"Well Admiral, why don't you show me to my quarters, then you can give me the five-cent tour. Of course you know, I'm supposed to report back all the really good stuff to my superiors." It was clear from her banter, that Yagger had come to feel more comfortable around Hethran than most of the other Soloriens she encountered.

With a mock serious look on his face Hethran intoned "Now Captain as much as im sure you are a dutiful soldier, if your government is really that interested in the clothing you wear, im sure we can have some made for your president." Hethran allowed a broad smile to cross his face as he leaned forwards and removed a card from his pocket, swiping it across the reader the door beeped and then clicked open, Hethran pushed the door open, and held it so that Yagger could step into her quarters.
OOC: Captain Yaggers Quarters, are extremely well furnished. More so than the Admirals was on board the Reconciliation. The floors are carpeted in thick yet soft red carpeting, the main room is dominated by a a sumptuous looking singlebed against the rear wall. A large oak desk is located in the corner facing towards the door, and as with the Admirals ready room, there is a coffee table in the opposite corner with two chairs, althought these are considerably less plush than the ones the Admiral Prefers. There is a door leading through to the other room, and a stand alone shower is visible through the door, and a cupboard. Laying flat on the bed is Yagger's new uniform (an almost exact replica of her old one), Even from the outside it is evident that this is made of superior cloths and workmanship, the interior of the jacket is lined with Silk, and the buttons are made from the finest pearl, the trousers are made from a soft form of linen produced solely in Soloriel, and the inside of the legs are again lined with silk. The shirt to top this sumptuous choice off, is made of pure snow white silk, with pearl buttons. All of the colours have been softened slightly, to reduce some of the harsh military effect her old uniform had. It appears the Emperor has spared no expense in attempting to win Captain Yagger over.

I don't think I like the fact that you intercepted my message. Anyway, we will continue to reinforce Loyalist-held Danteri. We have no intentions of attacking anyone, it would be suicide!! We only wish to be prepared if anyone decides to end this cease-fire, or if our conference goes wrong.
I will only compromise when those in the North have stopped their reinforcing.
Sgt. Kyler's body shook, his head dripped with sweat, his clothes were ragged. He and his company were marching, marching, marching. The country wouldn't have normally been this hot, but it had been bombed, nuked, and bombed over again. He missed the cool air of the Zukariaan forests back home. He felt like he would collapse. Three times now, men had fallen and never gotten back up. Two of them were Loyalist men, far more battered and bruised than the Zukariaan troops. The man next to Kyler had been fighting since the first days of the wars. He had seen many battles and you could see it in his eyes. He walked like an old man, his left arm looked as if it would never work again, and his face was cut and bruised.
The fact that everyone was tired didn't help when they came. 500 of the people who were against peace. The column of 300 Zukariaan and 400 Loyalist men was caught by surprise as they rolled over the hill, firing upon them. It was unexpected. How had these Warmongers been surviving and recruiting? Kyler fired, as did the others. He jumped down the ditch next to the road with many others. Bodies fell over them, bloody. The Loyalist soldier was still next to Kyler. The battle went on for 20 minutes. 39 Zukariaan and Loyalist soldiers survived, as the last of the enemies retreated. Kyler saw that the Loyalist man was still alive, and he was going to cheer, but as the last of men retreated, a shot rang out. The man fell to the ground, shuddered, and died. Sgt. Henry Kyler learned that day that war was a terrible thing. He allowed himself to take it all in. The 800 dead men, enemies and allies alike, that lay around him. He and the survivors simply kept moving for their destination..
-An attack by the War-Rebels has left 661 Loyalist and Zukariaan soldiers dead.

[From: General Yeltzin]
Oompli recognizes and will try to abide by the current cease-fire conditions. We are transporting an engineering regiment and a medical battalion to the Westgate area in order to attend to the needs of the controlled civilian population, with the exception af the medical personnel they are armed as a neccessary protective measure. These new units will provide housing, food, water, medical attention and supplies, to the controlled civilian population only, refugees from other cities will be denied access unless priority cases. They will repair the infastructure and facilities of Westgate city and surrounding areas in the Oompli controlled territory.
Nikolai sat in the reasonably comfortable seat of the private jet which was commandered to become her transport to the Danteri peace conference being held in Gwazzaria. She was dressed in the standard Oomplian female military dress, an olive green jacket and a knee length skirt made from a thick felt like material. It was uncomfortable to wear but it was standard and the Oompli way of working was with standards, even if at times those standards where outdated. The Oompli government was one that did not like to change things unless it was really neccesary to change whatever was causing the problem. Nikolai could not stop herself squirming as she tried to make herself comfortable, Ivan noticed this and laughed at her.
You are like a child, squirming away like that he laughed, she stopped squirming and adjusted herself, she had not realised he had been watching her. Ivan was a big man, he was a boxer before the joined the OISA Oompli internal security agency (similar to KGB) before being assigned to become her personnal guard. He had been in her service for three years now and the two of them had grown close but nothing had come of it so far.
How long until we arrive and I can get of this damned aircraft? she asked, Ivan poked his head into the pilots cabin and asked.
About three hours, or so the pilot says he informed her with a smile. She smiled back.
Status;
-Oomplian combat engineers are to be assigned to repeair damaged roads, rail tracks, buildings, power stations and other facilties as well as building new houses and conveniences around the Westgate area.
-A medical facility is to be set up in a warehouse complex outside the port of Westgate to facilitate for wounded civilians after the cities previous and only hospital was destroyed in a earlier conflict. The facility is large enough to provide medical assitance to the entire cities population but supplies are having trouble getting through to the continent with the already congested sea lanes proving to be difficult as well as attacks upon our convoys by rogue figther planes and naval vessels.
On the Solorien Vessel
"Prime Minister..." Yagger corrected absently before whistling as she stepped into her quarters, "By the goddess, it's nice. You should have seen what I was sleeping in back in Danteri before I was selected for this job. Really I don't need all this, I'm sure there are more important people who deserve this room."
Despite her protests, Yagger advanced into the room, feeling the thickness of the carpet beneath her booted feet. She moved to the bed and sat on the edge, her head turned to examine the uniform next to her. It was similar to the standard dress uniform she wore, but it was far less uniform and far more dress in her view. She reached out and stroked the fabric lightly with her fingertips and then glanced over at the Admiral who watched her. In her head she wondered what the Soloriens were playing at. The Admiral seemed genuinely sincere, but the Chancellor... Were the Soloriens trying to bribe her or were they just trying to make a good impression? Inwardly she wished her father could see this, his daughter being treated almost like royalty instead of the daughter of a coal miner. It was too bad the troops of New Sparta had driven him and hundreds of other workers who rebelled into an abandoned mine before collapsing the entrance, burying them alive. She looked back at the uniform then up at the Admiral. "This must have cost a fortune... I-I haven't done anything to deserve something like this."

Re: Danteri Reinforcements
Our nation has no intention of sending further troops to Danteri, nor do, I believe our Solorien allies. We request that you cease further troop buildups in order to halt a potential 'Danteri Arms Race'. Limiting troop commitments in Danteri would have a positive effect in reducing potential friction between all our respective troops. Further troop buildups can only be a source of further mistrust and a drain on all our respective nations and on the people of Danteri.
If your nation continues to send troops and other offensive weaponry to Danteri, we will have no choice but to revoke our offer of armnament limitations.

Re: Attacks on Loyalists
The government and people of 23Eris condemn the recent attacks on Loyalist troops and their Zukariaan allies since the signing of a ceasfire in Danteri. There is no excuse for these attacks carried out in disregard for the agreements in place to halt the fighting. We urge the Rebel factions to use all means at their disposal to curttail the activities of these terrorist groups. At the same time, we urge Zukariaa and Loyalist troops to use caution and restaint in their response. Attacks and harassment of civilians in their territory can only serve to further inflame an already tense situation.

We agree to this, as we do not wish for this war to continue. As for these recent attacks, we can do nothing but make sure that those suspected are dealt with. They are in Loyalist held territory and under Loyalist law, and for them to attack us in such a way will not go unpunished.

Hethran Smiled as she corrected him, "Of course it is, i apologise." laughing softly to himself as entered the room he replied "My dear Captain, at this particular moment in time i dont think there is anyone more important than you on board this ship."
As she sat on the bed Hethran looked down at her, he had caught the expression that had flashed across her face as she stroked the material of her new clothing. "I had a feeling that the Emperor would take the liberty of preparing some clothing for you and your Colonel, which is why i also had the liberty of doing the same." Reaching into his bag he pulled out his spare naval uniform, "I had it resized for you. It might not be as luxurious and comfortable as the clothes the Chancellor has prepared, but i felt you may be more comfortable in a uniform." Leaning forwards he laid it across her lap, and then reached into his pocket and placed the white card he had used from before on top of it. "This is the nly copy of this card, and it is the only one which will grant you access to this room, and if youd like I can ensure that our tour will take you towards the Imperial Tailor." A smile crossed his face as he said this last part, and he stepped away towards the door, as he started to pull it closed he paused and looked across towardd her. "Do not worry yourself about the cost of the clothing, it was no trouble at all for our Empire, and as for not doing anything to deserve this, my dear Captain you have done more than anyone else I know. You are the Sole Representative of your people, you have held yourself with Honour and Dignity, and you have impressed not only me and my crew, but the Chancellor as well. So please, do not worry yourself... Yagger." As he finished speaking the admiral pulled the door towards him "I will be right outside waiting for you, and then we can begin if you wish." As the door closed he leaned on it for a moment What are you thinking you old fool? He asked himself wearily.
Yagger looked down at the Naval uniform and smiled to herself. This was certainly a bit more familiar. She didn't want to risk offending the Chancellor and through him the Solorien Emperor, but the overly fancy uniform somehow made her a little uncomfortable. Yagger quickly stripped off her own uniform and slipped into the one provided by the Admiral. Her room card slid easily into one of the pockets and she hung both the fancy uniform and her standard dress uniform in the closet of her room. She marveled again at the sheer amount of space these Soloriens provided. They certainly seemed to enjoy thier comforts, even on combat vessels.
She hurried over to the door and pulled it open. "Ready for that tour... Sir." Yagger stated with an impish grin, then added. "I say we leave the tailor alone for now, I don't want to bankrupt your country."
Since I've covered the Loyalists, here is the rebel delegation: (the eight diplomats)
- Thomas Vessermann: Thomas Vessermann was one of the foremost advocates of passive resistance... until he saw the government machinegun several thousand protestors. After that, he has advocated a violent overthrow of that same government. He has recierved a degree from the University of Danteri (In Danteri City), and was born there as well. His parents were both killed when the nuke went off. As such, how he will act is unpredictable.
- Rynald Strum: Rynald Strum is a former member of the Danteri Army (he held the rank of Major). He hjas also recieved a University level education (a degree in Philosophy from the University of Nord-Lund), and as such, should be considered the most experienced, perhaps senior, figure in the rebel delegation. At age forty five, he is the second oldest rebel delegate.
- Sara Von Freiburg: One of only a few rebels to come from an upper-class family, and also the only woman on the rebel delegation. She attended the University of Nord-Lund, and recieved a dual degree in Political Science and Economics. While a student, she took part in some political action groups, and apparently came to distrust the govbernment when several of the other members were made to disappear. She had no experience with warfare when the civil war broke out, but she apparently vollenteered to fight for the rebels, taking part in their retreat from Danteri City to Freiburg, suffering two wounds, one of which permanantly disfigured her face. She is considered a radical, possibly in favor of communism.
- Simon Nodlunder: Simon Nordlunder is a relatively young man, who barely completed his degree in Political Science at the University of Danteri (Danteri City) before the war broke out. He served as an "officer", if you could call it that, acting at times as the entierty of the rebel supply system. Apparently, he did an excelent job, and as such, he recieved a promotion.
- Ulrich Johansson: (No relation to the previous Johansson) Ulrich Johansson was one of the original founding members of The People's Commitee on Revolution. As such, he is a man who has been hunted for years. He apparently fought in the first civil war, thirty years ago, and has continued that fight, claiming that it never ended. He is fifty four years old, and as such is the oldest member of the rebel delegation. He is also one of their least radically leftist members - he is against a communist system, in favor of a sort-of Social Democracy. As such, he is the favorite of the liberal foreign nations.
- Harold Sudermann: Harold Sudermann is an enigma - he is around age thirty, and has fought in the rebel army against the Loyalists, but he is an unknown. Why they chose him to act as part of their delegation remains to be explained - he never recieved an education beyond the fifth grade level! (Although he has quite a bit of native intelligence...)
- Nathan Eisner: Nathan Eisner is a fairly "solid" choice for the rebel delegation - he has a dual degree in Political Science and Philosophy, has served as a senior officer in the rebel army, and expounds relatively moderate views, calling for a democracy that might be either capitalistic or communistic.
- Johnathan Metzger: Johnathan Metzger is a strong supporter of Sara Von Freiburg's calls for a communistic system after the end of the war. He has a degree in Political Science, and apears to have served with some distinction in the recent war. However, he is an extreme idealist, and isn't expected to see reason if that reason disagrees with his ideals. As such, he should be handled with care...
This concludes the rebel delegation... at this point, both have arrived in the Bismark building.
The guards of the rebel delegation were friendly - they chatted amiably with the Haraki, 23Erisian and Solorielan guards, and acted like school children on a vacation... they drank cheap orange soda like it was the nectar of the gods, and... they were young. All but one were under twenty, and a few looked too young to shave... although, none were young enough to really qualify as "child soldiers".
They wore ill-fitting suits, and seemed amazed at such "modern marvels" as colored television and warm, well lit rooms. None of them smoked, and all seemed... nice, as though they were genuinely nice guys, who you might like to meet in your local bar.
The Loyalist guards were different. They were large men, most around thirty, who acted like one would expect guards to act. They wore their heavy military uniforms, desinged for winters in Nord-Lund, and sweated. They didn't acknowledge the others, beyond an occassional nod to the Zukariaans or the Oompli or the men from New-Lexington... they looked nervous, and their hands always lingered near their empty holsters, as though they missed the feeling of being armed.
They were not as surprised at the things they saw as the rebels were - they knew that such things as warm dry rooms existed, and acted as such, but they still seemed impressed at the thought of such things as running water in every room, of electrical power being available at all hours of the day and night without interuption... they had seen color televisions before - they just hadn't seen color televisions with eighty or 100 channels, with commercials for so many products... they smoked all the time, big cheap cigars, and drank too much, making good any oppertunity they had for free alcohol... their sergeant didn't really try to enforce discipline about that - he was the worst drunkard of them all - but, he did enforce the rule that none of them could talk to the other guards... in fact, they wouldn't even sit down while the conference was in session. They would always stand in a cluster, close to the door, hands lingering at the empty holsters where they used to keep the guns that gave them their authority in their home country.
OOC: The Obligitory dossier on the Erisian delegation.
Acting Foreign Minister Jonathon Chilkevich: Chilkevich is a tall man with short brownish hair. He like most of the Erisian leaders is relatively young at only 41 years of age. Before recieving the bump up to the Foreign Ministry he was one of the ambassadors from the Erisian Rebels during the revolution. His efforts helped secure much needed supplies from other nations, as well as funds and training for the rebel troops. Chilkevich is a sincere person who strongly believes in a people's right to self determination. He has become accustomed to and quite good at the diplomatic game, but will at times be extremely blunt and to the point.
The Two Aides: One male, one female. The aides are there to assist as translators, reference pieces, and to handle most of the direct communication with the homeland. They also run interference for the Foreign Minister, summoning him away with an 'urgent' message if he feels the need to extract himself from a conversation.
The Two Guards: Both male and in their early twenties. They are veterans of the revolution and are devoted to protecting their charge, the 23Eris diplomatic briefcase. Though they also do lookout for the safety of the other members of the mission. They wear the dress uniform of the 23Eris armed forces and both wear the rank of sergeant. They are both unarmed but well muscled, but both seem very friendly and are more than willing to chat with thier opposites from any of the other delegations, not just those they are allied with.

Conference Chamber, Gwazzaria
"So, is everyone here?" Asked Jonathon Chilkevich as he took his seat. "If so, I suppose we should get started."
"If none of the other honorable delegates objects, I'd like to suggest the following format for the talks. An opening remark by each delegation, followed by a statement of war aims, then we can discuss and propose a general framework for a permanent peace based on the situation as it now stands in Danteri and the respective aims of each faction."
"If that sounds acceptable, I suggest we allow our esteemed colleagues from the neutral nations of Haraki, Gwazzaria, and now Bertling as they have shifted to a neural stance, to begin with their remarks."
The first bomb went off at precisely 1:01 PM. It blasted apart a small cart loaded with vegetebles, killing the owner, three women who had been standing in line to buy the vegetebles, and a child who had been playing nearby.
The second bomb went off at 1:03 PM, on the other side of town, tearing through a tightly packed crowd as the service let out at a church. Three dozen people were killed, five dozen wounded.
The third and fourth bombs were IEDs with remote controlls - they went off just as the emergency services workers were responding to the first two bombs. They had been positioned so that the two ambulences that had been dispatched were hit - eight medical relief workers were killed.
The fifth and sixth bombs went off minutes later, killing a few dozen civilians near the Loyalist barracks... they had been designed to cause a messy, noisy incident right under the noses of the Loyalist garrisson.
Of course, the Loyalist soldiers, most of them conscripts, couldn't ignore so many people dead and dieing right under their noses - they rushed out to help... right into bombs number seven, eight, nine and ten. Thirty four conscripts were killed, over 100 were wounded.
At that point, the city was in panic - riots, likely provoked by strategically placed agitators, tore through the poorest parts of the city. All of this had happened before 4:30 PM.
- Some 600 civilians and 60 Loyalist soldiers were killed during a systematic campaign of terrorist violence in Suderton, a mid-sized town of around 50,000 people. Rioting in Suderton is ongoing.
(Suderton is located in the portion of northern Southhaven that the Loyalists still hold.)
OOC: If anyone wants to post them, I can send them the newest maps.
In response to the latest anti-peace incident, the Loyalists are launching another crack-down: some three hundred people have been arrested, interrogated and shot.
Also: explosives, guns and ammunition were seized during this latest round of arrests. It looks like they got some of the real anti-peace terrorists...
In Suderton, order has been restored with the usual Loyalist brutality - some 500 people were killed when the Loyalists decided to disperse a crowd with machineguns...
- 300 people (only around 100 of them actual members of any sort of anti-peace organization) have been arrested. All of them were brutally interrogted by Danteri Government Security, then taken outside (if they were even still alive...) and shot.
- The rioting in Suderton was put down with about 500 civilan deaths, as Loyalist army units moved in with machineguns. Also, something like another 250 people are being held in the local jail, largely simply for surviving being machinegunned when the crowds were dispersed. Many of those being held are severly wounded.

Tap. Tap. Tap-tap-tap.
Lieutenant Craig was annoyed. He wanted to say what he had to say and get it done with. He glanced around, then said,"How about we don't?"
He looked at each of the diplomats as they looked back at him.
"I think the rebels and the Loyalists should speak first. This is their war."
He continued tapping. He wasn't a diplomat, diplomats were shot in Zukariaa. He was in a room full of people from governments that didn't work. The type of people he add ordered to be shot. The type his dad had been

Hethran stood outside of the Captains quarters, musing over his strange feelings. On board was a Heretic, a Foreigner and a Soldier, Yet he did not feel any animosity, mistrust or hatred toward her. Whats wrong you old fool? Going soft in your old age? Shaking off the feeling that something strange was going on, he turned to look as he heard the door open.
"Ready for that tour... Sir." Yagger stated with an impish grin, then added. "I say we leave the tailor alone for now, I don't want to bankrupt your country."
Hethran Laughed out loud at that, a booming friendly sound, and smiled at her. "I daresay Captain that you couldnt do that if you tried, but nonetheless you are right. Perhaps you would care to begin the tour in the recreation deck and work our way around?" As Hethran Gestured forwards he offered his arm to her with a smile on his face.
The Conference
The Chancellor had spent the opening parts of the proceedings, looking carefully at all the assembled Diplomats, measuring them up, and assessing them, his Guards had been watching every other person here, discreetly assessing threats and assigning watch details to one another through the microphones that ran from the earpiece to their mouth. Already they had judged who to take down first should an attack be made.
As the Zukariaan Diplomat spoke the chancellor narrowed his eyes Impatient and Impertinent He thought to himself. Clearing his throat the Chancellor spoke up: "Perhaps he is right, after all they are the ones for whom we are all fighting." Lowering his hood for the first time since he arrived he revealed a pair of blue eyes, that seemed to pierce into your heart, despite the film that was beginning to cover them.

Chief Lexitonian delegate Thomas Harris gazed out of the bulletproof window of the black SUV he was traveling at the building ahead. As the vehicle came to a stop, Harris along with the other seven delegates emerged from the caravan of black SUV’s. Each delegate was guarded by two Special Forces men. Each is skilled in martial arts and weaponless defence. As Harris and the other delegates neared the building, Harris noticed a particularly young looked rebel guard enjoying an orange soda while resting his hands on his empty belt and holster. Harris approached the guard while the other delegates entered the Bismarck building.
“How old are you kid” asked Harris.
“Who me?” asked the rebel.
“Yes you”
“I’ll be fifteen tomorrow sir” came the rebel reply.
“You’re fourteen” asked Harris.
“Yessir” came the reply.
“Aren’t you a little young to be fighting”
“No one is to young to fight for what they believe in” as the rebel finished his soda.
“I see”
Harris left the rebel and entered the building, deeply affected by his words…
A profile of all seven New-Lexitonian delegates (Name/Age)
Thomas Harris 31
The chief delegate and youngest, the younger brother of Supreme President Drew Harris is not without international experience. A key player in the border disagreements with Saxe Gotha in 2003, and Zychibastan in 2004.
Clint Jackson 35
Jackson lacks experience in international affairs, but is an excellent political appeaser. He will be a key player when it comes to making all sides satisfied.
Hannah Massey 35
Massey is one of only two females on the delegation and voices her opinions for all to hear.
Gary Andersen 57
A seasoned international affairs man, Andersen was diplomat to Danteri before the war, and knows the Danteri people well.
Jacob Senn 35
Senn is a personal friend of Supreme President Drew Harris and is considered Harris’s puppet by many.
Felder Leaphart 37
Another personal friend of Drew Harris, but he is not criticized at all. Many believe he should be the Chief Delegate.
Laura Bonilla 54
The only non-white member of the delegation, Bonilla is a former federal judge who is chief of staff of the minority affairs department. She should see everyone is treated equally.

Duke Indrik Vandegraff, sitting alone at his own section of the table between the 23Eris and New-Lexington delegations, looked around the (very large) table, at each of the delegations. It had taken how many millions of deaths to get to here?
He nodded and shrugged. "Whoever wants to make their opening statement can do so. There's always coins to flip if common courtesy doesn't work." The Duke was by no means a physically impressive man, being quite short and round and wearing a pair of horn-rimmed glasses. For an absolute ruler he was also quite young, at 37. He wore the high-necked ducal robe, which looked somewhere between a Catholic priest's robe and a military dress uniform. For one of the very few times in a non-public appearance, he actually had his scepter (which was closer to a cane) with him.

The Chancellor rapped his staff of office upon the floor once, "Greetings My Grace, If permitted I will speak on behalf of our most Holy Emperor." Without waiting to see if he had approval or not he swept his gaze along the table once, meeting the eyes of all the Delegates gathered here. "Fellow Delegates, Friends." At this he glanced at the delegation from 23Eris. "Foes." with these he looked pointedly at New Lexington and Zakariaa's Delegates. "We are gathered here, with the hope of finding a peaceful way to end this conflict. Many Millions have died in a horrible manner for too long." Clearing his throat pointedly he glanced at the Danteri Loyalists. "The Emperor is most displeased with the manner in which the people of Danteri have been treated. And I am here on his bequest, to arrange a peaceful end to this conflict." Gripping his staff, for a moment he looked every inch the old man that he was. "Since this is a matter for words and not violence, may i first reccomend that all the Bodyguards here gathered await us outside of this room. Their ways are those of Violence, and I think we have all had enough of that." With a wry smile he looked to the Duke for approval.

Lieutenant Craig stopped tapping. He sighed and said,"This war has gone one far too long. Thousands of Zukariaan soldiers have gladly died to help our allies, and will continue to do so, but the people are suffering far more than anyone. Millions have died, and for what? A group of ignorant rebels, who wish to overthrow the rightful rulers of the nation? Could they not just leave the country? It is in the governments right to do what they want to their people, and they have no right to say otherwise. We, however, will come to an agreement. We do not wish to send brothers against brothers anymore. We want a treaty in place to split Danteri between the Rebels, Loyalists, and Free Republic of Freiburg. Once that is in place, we will no longer need to worry about attack, and can rebuild the government and land of Loyalist Danteri."
He slid back into his chair, glancing around. He started moving his leg up and down impatiently.

"While I appreciate the sentiment, Chancellor, but the point of bodyguards is that they only use violence for defense. As such, I think that for everyone's peace of mind they should stay," He glanced at his own in the corner of the room. The Ducal Enforcers were sort of Gwazzaria's own Swiss Guard - the apparent impracticality and ornateness of their rather comical uniforms hid quite a bit. "Perhaps on the second day of this meeting we will do so, if people are agreed on it."
He waited through Zukariaa's opening. I guess they were right, he thought, they really have killed every diplomat in that country.
"Very, ah, pointed, sir. Thank you." He nodded to the Lieutenant and looked around the table for the next speaker.

The Chancellor glared across the table at the Zukariaan 'Diplomat' for a moment before returning his appearance to that of the Serene advisor. "Perhaps the Eminent Diplomat from Zukariaa forgets the Millions who died under the 'Rightful Rulers' of Danteri. Or the thousands sent to their death aganst our forces? Or perhaps he would rather gloss over the fact that since we sealed off Nord-Lund from the South, all those in our care have been Adequately cared for, the Death Camps Catalogued and Destroyed, The citys Rebuilt. Whatever claim the Former Government of Danteri had over its people, was gone the instant Paul Von Easthaven perished, perhaps should have done when that maniac General Krieger perished. Perhaps now is the time for the people of Danteri, instead of being Told what to do, should be Allowed to Decide what they want of their Government?" Settling back the Chancellor gestured towards one of his Bodyguards, before whispering something in his ear. Nodding the man hurried to do what the Chancellor had asked.
Peace Conference, Gwazzaria
"The delegation of The Free Republic of the 23rd Eris wishes to speak." Chilkevich said, rising from his chair. "Our people believe in the right of people eveywhere to self-determination. We also believe that a government is formed to serve the people, not oppress them, and that any government that abuses its own power by making war on its own populace has lost its right to govern. We also recognize the inalienable right of any people to overthrow such a government that oppresses them."
Chilkevich paused, took a breath and then continued. "The war in Danteri which has divided the land and the people has caused far too much bloodshed and tears, and if we do not resolve the differences here, it will continue to do so. Our failure at this conference condemns millions more to pain, sorrow, and death. We cannot afford to fail. We must find and agree to a peace that ensures stability, peace, and freedom for the Danteri people."
"I call upon all our respective nations, friend and foe alike to resolve here today to find an end to this terrible conflict, and to stay here in Gwazzaria as long as necessary to secure such a peace."
"Thank you your grace." Chilkevich finished, bowing his head to the Gwazzarian, then turning to the assembled delegates before sitting. "And thank all of you for attending this conference."

On the Requiem
Yagger took the Admiral's offered arm and walked with him. "You decide, you know the ship better than I. I would like to go above decks as well, if that's allowed. I start feeling a little clausterphobic if I'm indoors too long."
As they walked, Yagger sneaked a few looks over at the Admiral, hoping secretly that Colonel Papadakis did not encounter them at some point on the tour. It was strange that she felt so comfortable with this older man, a man who was truly, in all sense of the word, a stranger. She had no understanding of how he could, worship, if that's what it was a living being as a god, or to have unquestioning devotion. She bit her lower lip and glanced at him once more, trying to focus on what he was saying about the vessel as they walked.

"If you all wouldn't mind, could we preserve such comments until after everyone gets their first word in? This is all being recorded, so we can backtrack if requested."
He turned in his swivelling armchair to listen to the 23Eris delegate speak, and smiled at the end of it. "Thank you, that's about what I was preparing to say. Also, it's 'Royal Highness' now, but don't feel obligated to bother with the stylings at all."

We have agreed to split Danteri amongst the three factions, we want peace as much as you do! And we would be rebuilding, too, if we weren't being bombed from the inside, outside, and everywhere in between!!" he slammed his fist on the table, causing it to shudder,"Do you think we are still against this?! Yagger shook her head indicating she didn't mind stopping. "She'ar?" Yagger asked, wondering if it were another woman, and feelinga strange surge of jealousy rise up her spine. She grimaced and shook her head at the feeling. You have to be cool and objective, she reminded herself. You are here as a representative of your people, not for yourself. Now pull yourself together Sara!
She looked about the recreation room while waiting for the Admiral to return. She couldn't even imagine that her own navy had anything like this. Of course, her country had no aircraft carriers or battleships, and only a handful of cruisers. She moved to the bookshelves and, brushing a strand of shortish dark hair from her face, began to examine the books available.
OOC: Oompli has sent only the one diplomat (diplomacy is not Oompli's strongpoint), here is profile;
-Nikolai Lesta; a young woman in her early twenties and of average height and build. She is trained to use her looks to 'persuade' members of the opposite sex. She has had a high level of education, she is calm at most times but can easily lose her temper. She is patriotic and looks upon the enemies of Oompli with discontent.
Nikolai stepped out of the large black car and hurried into the large building that loomed in front of her. She was late, the conference had already begun. A guard approached and asked for any firearms to be handed over, Ivan passed him his service pistol. He frisked Ivan and then turned to Nikolai with a slight smile. Ivan stopped him, she does not have a weapon on her he said in a calm voice. Ivan towered over the guard and he got the message and motioned them through. Nikolai entered the room and noticed how many people were actually there, she apoligised for he lateness. She quickly scanned the room for her seat and quickly made her way to it, she felt the others watching her and heard whispered comments as she took her place. She looked at the other diplomats, mostly a male contigent, she relaxed.
Rynald Strum took a sip from his water glass, then stood to speak. He was a slight man, and looked a bit... underfed. However, as the rebels had mostly starved in their caves for the last few weeks, his undernurished appearence merely meant that he was a "true believer", who was willing to suffer for the revolution. He spoke:
"Zukariaa, your soldiers are fighting a war they cannot win. How can they, when we have the people on our side? New-Lexington, your soldiers are beasts, murdering prisoners with no reguard for the rules of war. I am not ammused at this petty bickering... what have the slaughtered millions of Danteri died for? For this? I cannot tolerate such... such pettiness. I want to make a suggestion - each side keeps what it has now. The Danteri currently held by the rebel factions becomes an independant nation... as for whether it will be communist or capitalist, the people will decide that." he tilted back his head, looked at the ceiling for a moment, then lowered it again, cleared his throat, and asked:
"Well?"
Harold Von Nord-Lund adjusted the collar of his heavy military coat, designed for winter in icy Nord-Lund, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and smilled a faint, deadly, smile.
Finally, he spoke:
"Well, this comes as a bit of a surprise! Did you not say you would not stop until the mutilated bodies of your enemies hang from the spires of Danteri City? Sure, you'd have a hard time hanging us from melted spires, but... why stop now?" with that, he sat back, waiting for the rebel reply.
Just as Rynald Strum was about to speak, a junior member of his delegation, one Sara Von Freiburg interupted, leaping up and shouting:
"How dare you even imply that we intend to stop there?!? Your bodies would dangle from the spires of Westgate soon enough, you murdering son of a - " at that point, she was reduced to screeching incoherence, ranting on the subject of how some murdererors would be punished.
Finally, she was pulled back into her seat, where she lapsed into sullen silence.
After Sara Von Freiburg's sudden outburst, Rynald Strum took a moment to compose himself, taking another sip from his water glass before answering the Loyalist's words:
"We do intend to let you be of course... some of us have just suffered more at your hands then others. Whatever the case, when you ask us why we offer you peace... it is because we do not want to fight anymore. Peace would mean no more deaths. Surely that is worth something, at any rate?" with that, he bowed his head, and took a moment to collect himself before continuing:
"Enough has been lost. Enough children have died. Enough has been done to ensure that Danteri will take decades to recover. Do you really want the fighting to go on past this point?" with that, he ended his address.

Our soldiers have only done what is necessary to win a war, and these "rule of war you speak of, how can you talk of our violations of these so-called "rules" when your own soldiers commit brutal attrocities also? We do not kill children as you have. Also, towards the end of this war our tactics were scaled back, as killing prisoners became unneccessary.

What will they eat? Im not saying you cant deploy that many, but please at least be realistic about it?

Admiral Hethran stepped back onto the Recreation deck, he smiled when he saw Captain Yagger perusing the Bookshelves. At his side was She'ar, a fully grown female White Panther. The symbolic animal of the Solorien Empire. Padding softly at his side on her huge leash, he stepped briskly over to Yagger. "Captain Yagger, may I present She'ar, my pride and joy." A huge smile split his face as She'ar jumped up at Yagger, and began licking her face. "I think she likes you." He commented as She'ar continued to sniff Yagger.
The Conference
The Chancellor watched the proceedings carefully, judging each persons reaction to the other, assessing the best words to use, and the correct way to phrase them. As he did so, his Bodyguard re-entered the room with a huge roll of paper under his arm, he huried to the Chancellors side, and whispered in his ear briefly before placing the roll in the Chancellors lap. The Chancellor nodded once, and then smiled. Waiting for all the partys to finish their squabbling.
Peace Conference, Gwazzaria
Jonathon Chilkevich was appalled by what he heard from the New-Lexington representative. "Unneccessary? How can the slaughter of prisoners ever be justified as necessary? With your claims at to how many troops you have ashore on Danteri your justifications as a necessity are absurd. The Erisian forces in Danteri number less than a percent of the total force you claim to deploy and we managed not only to accept prisoners, but to treat and care for them as well."
Chilkevich sighed, he wasn't use dto losing his cool, but the arrogance of those on the Loyalist side was difficult to withstand. "Since I currently have the floor, I will take a moment to state the aims of the 23rd Eris Delegation."
"We seek a phased withdrawl of all Loyalist forces and their allies from Southhaven, which will be turned over to the control of the People's Committee."
"Full recognition of Southhaven and Freiburg-Nord-Lund."
"We wish for Easthaven and the citizens in the Haraki safe-zones to be given free transit to wherever they wish to go within the entirety of Danteri."
"A plebiscite to be then held in Easthaven to determine the future status of that section of Danteri."
"Freedom for all Danteri citizens behind Loyalist lines to travel between the new nations of Danteri to seek permananent residece in whichever nation they choose."
"A surrender of Loyalist war criminals to be held for trial by an internatioal court of justice for crimes against humanity. These criminals will be named at a later time."
"Thank you."

Yagger stiffened visibly as the large cat leapt on her. It took all her willpower not to cry out, but her wide eyes and look of fright were sign enough. After seeing the cat proved to be friendly, Yagger relaxed, a little, but still seemd to remain wary of the feline, even as she held out a hand for the panter to examine. "She seems, uhm... lovely." Hethran frowned slightly at She'ar, "She'ar Huluth Sahien!" The panther backed off and padded next to him, rubbing the back of her head against his leg, letting a smile cross his face. "Fathre Dera" He said stroking the back of her head and scratching her ears, eliciting a deep throaty purr. "Dont worry Captain, she is very well trained, although she can be a bit overpowering at times." Scratching the back of hear ears, She'ar sat down next to him, a look of pleasure on her face. "Shall we Captain?" He gestured towards the doors, "I think for our next port of call, I shall show you the upper decks, I think we can all do with some fresh air." Holding his arm out to her, he clicked his tongue, and She'ar stood up purring still and looking up at Hethran.
The Conference
The Chancellor held his tongue as the representative of New-Lexington finished speaking, and listened intently to the rejoinder from 23Eris. "Perhaps now would be the time, to show you exactly how the prisoners were treated under the former Regime." Standing up he unfurled the roll of paper in his lap across the table. It was an A2 Sized photosheet, with a picture of the Deathcamps that Soloriel had uncovered. The battered broken bodys of the dead prisoners lay in ditches bullet holes covering the frail bodys. As he unrolled the next sheet it showed some of the Prisoners being treated in a Solorien medical centre in Camp Stronghold, he was emaciated, litle more than a skeleton with skin, the person in the picture was a child, no more than 10. "These are just some of the images we have of the people that were held by the Former Government." Waiting for a moment for the images to sink in before continuing, "We agree with the esteemed diplomat from 23Eris, all points he has made, are Seconded by the Holy Empire of Soloriel, with an addendum." Clearing his throat for a moment before continuing. "Immediate Transferral of all current Loyalist held prisoners to Haraki, Soloriel and 23Eris, so that we may determine who is held without due course and return them to their familys." Sweeping the table with his gaze, he pointed at the images unfurled before the Delegates. "These will remain until the conclusion of this Conference, lest we forget exactly who we are fighting for in this terrible war." Sitting back in his chair, he calmly looked the Delegates from New-Lexington in the eyes.

Lieutenant Craig tried to keep his cool as each person spoke. He looked at the pictures as well,"Those things happened when Easthaven was in power, have you not noticed that hes dead? And I don't think that the Loyalists should give away any of their land. The Frieburgers and Rebels can keep what they have, and so can the Loyalists. People should be able to move about Danteri, sure, but I think the current system of passes should stay in place. With the people out there who have been bombing Zukariaan and Loyalist soldiers, we don't want any extra bombs to be snuck in. And, what war criminals? Crimes against humanity? The men who had done these thing were under orders from Easthaven, they are his crimes, if you would call them that, and he is dead."

Next time, the Duke thought, the damn Prime Minister can come to these things.
"Look, we're all very angry at each other, and there's a lot to resolve. This is not, however, yet about guilt or war crimes. We're here to stop fighting, not give each other new reasons for it. While I agree that war criminals - on both sides - need to eventually be brought to justice, and that 'following orders' is not an excuse for committing atrocities, that should all be saved for a later date," he cleared his throat and continued.
"I'm basically in agreement with Chilkevich, but the Lieutenant does raid a valid concern. I think for the moment people's safety and welfare is more important than freedom, much as I dislike saying that. I believe that relocating the refugees to where they want to be ought to be one of our stated goals, but not quite like that," he adjusted his glasses and looked around the table at the delegates.
"Danteri is in ruins, and rebuilding it will take a very, very long time and a good deal of manpower. I believe that all parties who have contributed to the conflict in some way should assist in this to the best of their ability, and - to get back to the relocation question - the refugees be (after we sort out the pro-war terrorist issue) given jobs in the reconstruction." He sat back and waited for, hopefully, comments on the proposals. More likely, though, he expected Soloriel pulling out those photos would cause yet more argument about guilt. It'd be like the Treaty of Versailles if the Central Powers had been allowed in...

Lieutenant Craig sighed,"I agree. We can't have millions of refugees doing nothing but move from place to place while the government, which is falling apart, istrying to put it back together. We need everyone to help fix things, government and populas alike."
He looked around, half expecting someone to be surprised he hadn't burst out and refused.
Zachary Mitas had not spoken yet, but rather simply watched the other men speak. However, as a lull in the conversation opened up, he cleared his throat and began speaking, somehow captivating the attention of all those in the room despite his soft-spoken voice. Absent-mindedly, his fingers fiddled with a manila envelope in front of him. "I'd just like to interject something.
"First of all, the esteemed delegate from Zukariaa is claiming the soldiers acted the way they did on orders from Von Easthaven. However, we have testimony that these labour camps have existed from when the original Supreme Leader was in power, and have existed for years. They appear to be where the Danterian government has sent its 'undesirables' over the years. The first Danteri civil war should have shown adequate proof of that. Besides that fact, these camps were in operation and prisoners of war and civilians were being executed and nerve gassed when the Supreme Leader was in power, when General Krieger was in power, when Paul Von Easthaven was in power, and when his wife took over after his death came the most devastating attack of all, including multiple atomic detonations and nerve gas attacks on safe zones established to keep loss of civilian life minimal. Danteri Government Security, from which all the Loyalist delegates here are from, seems to be the organization behind most of this, and most of the instatements of Loyalist leaders. Do you think the next leader they choose will be any more sane or reasonable than the last ones?
With that he opened the envelope in front of him and pulled out full-page glossy pictures documenting the labour camps: Long-range pictures taken showing the insides of the massive camps when they were still in operation, with hundreds of thousands of people inside manufacturing arms for the Loyalist war machines. High-resolution pictures showed thirteen men and two women being escorted outside, forced to dig a large hole, and then executed one by one by young guards with guns, who looted the bodies and then played rock, paper, scissors to decide who had to throw the bodies into the hole. The pictures were obviously taken from the ground, although satellite pictures were also included.
"Camps like this don't spring up overnight, ladies and gentlemen. They had obviously been in place for a long time before Von Easthaven took office.
"Now, on to Haraki's proposition. All factions are dissolved and Haraki is united into one nation again. All current political parties are dissolved and new ones can be formed by anyone in the entire county. What then follows is an election campaign throughout the entire country by anyone who wishes to take part in any party, thus making it so anyone can run in the beginning and anyone can vote for anyone. Of course, more established or well-known people will garner more votes. The nation will be split up into ridings and a parliament will be created to represent what the Danterian people really want. Because we can't really decide what's best for a people, but what we can do is set up a process for them to decide for themselves."
[NS]Zukariaa
19-04-2006, 23:34
Lieutenant Craig quickly replied,"Whether they were in place before or not, they were still acting under orders. I wasn't saying that the Labour Camps were not in place before, anyways. I was saying that the mass killings happened when Easthaven was alive. And dissolve the governments and factions? I think not! Neither I or the Loyalists will agree to such a thing! The Loyalists will hold a vote, and the Rebels will hold a vote, for their own part of the country, and how about this? If the Loyalists agree to it, we'll pick the candidates. This isn't about forcing Democracy on the Loyalists, dammit! Its about rebuilding the country so that they can live on their own. If the right person is elected by the people of each part, the country might just become peaceful."
"But," Mitas responded calmly, "we're not forcing anything on anyone. If there truly are those in Danteri, whether in the rebels or the loyalists, who want a dictatorship still, they can start a dictatorship party of some sort, where all votes would go to them and should they be able to pass a bill, whether through a majority government or a coalition of some sort, they could reinstate the dictatorship that existed before.
"But this is not about forcing anything on anyone. This is about allowing the people of Danteri to choose exactly what they want with no pressure existing from any previous parties. For example, if the Loyalist Party remained, many people may feel pressured to vote for them for fear for their lives. This is also why international forces from all involved nations would monitor the election to ensure no strongarming, shows of force, or any other attempted influencing of the voting populace except by campaigning."

OOC:
All factions are dissolved and Haraki is united into one nation again. ... I'm guessing you mean Danteri there?
"Now, I naturally might have a bit of bias here," Duke Vandegraff interjected, after the Hakari diplomat and the Lieutenant had finished, "But this shouldn't be about forcing a form of government on anyone - even democracy. At this point in time, safety of the Danterian people and rebuilding the country is more important than politics." He glanced at the photos of the deathcamps. "And, naturally, stopping any further atrocities on any side."
"The needs of the Danteri populace are, right now, very plain to see. Self-determination can come when there's more of a grey area than there is at the moment."

"But to dissolve the nations governments and factions? I don't think the Loyalists want to give up their government or factions, even for this. Each party needs to keep its land as its own country!" he said,"The main problem right now is NOT the gorvernment, its the state of Danteri itself! We rebuild, we hold elections for each seperated country, everyone is happy. If the people don't want to live in Loyalist land, they leave." Lieutenant Craig finished.
"And these pictures are nothing! They are trying to change the opinions of the others by showing pictures that might not even be what they're talking about! How about these?!"
With that, he tossed an envelope onto the table, pictures of dead children scattered across the table,"Want to force guilt? Those are the kids that the Freiburgers killed. Sure, it was self-defense, so its not a war-crime, is it?" He said sarcastically, then sat down.

The Duke frowned at the Lieutenant, and briefly considered the political ramifications of beating him with the ducal scepter. "I'd personally say that there's more guilt on the head of the ones that sent children into battle in the first place, but we are, for the last time, not here to discuss that. Now, could you all remove your evidence from the tables, and we can deal with guilt and war crimes later?"
"I do, however, like what you said about anyone not wanting to be there being allowed to leave the Loyalist area. It might actually cut down quite a bit on this pro-war terrorism, to have the fanatics in their respective faction's territory. Then it's just an issue of keeping them away from the other's."

Lieutenant Craig replied,"Sorry. Overreacted." He removed the pictures.
"We could always let people out, and make sure those coming in have a pass, go through pleanty of checks, and such." He started spinning his pen in his fingers, thinking. He wasn't doing a very good job. He was reacting to much.
"How about you talk too the High Commander himself?"
Harold Von Nord-Lund laughed suddenly, and lept up, a rapid movement for a normal man, more impresive when one factored in his heavy winter uniform. With a bitter laugh, he interupted, shouting out, "Yes, those death camps existed! Yes, we have sent children to their deaths! Yes, we have killed millions, if not tens of millions, of our own people! But... consider this: all of that we did we did for Danteri! If it had not been for our actions, Danteri would have ceased to exist long ago! We have done many terrible things... but, in the end, what we have achieved justified our actions! We did monstrous things to prevent the destruction of Danteri as a nation... that much we have done, and that much I would order done any day now. How can you judge?" he asked, whirling to face the Solorielan delegate, "How can you judge when you were not there? I was there, do you understand, when the last civil war ended, I was there! I ran over the bodies at Freiburg, I watched brother and friend die horribly... and I still had the strength of will to follow orders. I was there, and for Danteri, that it might live, I would order any individual, any million individuals, killed right now. In the end, it would be worth it." with that, he sat again, and took a sip from his water glass.
At that point, the rebel delegate, Rynald Strum, lept up, screaming out a cry of anger: "Sure, you were there! You were there at the death camps, you murderor! You were there at the scenes of slaughter and atrocity! And yet... you were there, and you cannot find it in your heart to say it was wrong? If the nation of Danteri can only survive through such violence and blood shed, perhaps it would be better if it did not survive." with that, he made as if to continue, but then he was interupted: Sara Von Freiburg, mewling like a wounded animal, had lept onto the table, and now moved towards Harold Von Nord-Lund, screaming: "Murderor! Tyrant! Your kind has - " she would have continued the ranting, but at that point, her hands were around Von Nord-Lund's throat, and a Loyalist bodyguard struck her, knocking her to the ground. She made a faint whining noise as she lay on the floor - her head had struck the table on the way down - and in the end, had to be removed from the conference in order to recieve medical care.
When it was over, Rynald Strum spoke again, saying, in a wavering tone: "I'm so sorry about that... but she was in Freiburg, you see... all her life, she heard stories about the monstrous things done in that city... she just had to react. I'm sorry." he sat again, and sipped from his water glass again - that seemed to be his nervous habit.

The Chancellor nodded at Yarlith and Khalith after they swept in front of him, "My Grace perhaps now is the time to call a halt to these proceedings for the day, maybe we can all ruminate on what has been said, and approach this tomorrow with a fresh head, and fresh Ideas?"

The Duke shook his head. In all honesty, he'd expected a lot worse from these. So far there hadn't even been a sustained fist-fight.
"Not quite yet, not every nation has had a chance to get their say. If we conclude it now there will be nothing at all resolved, and I'd at least like to see you all concede to putting off discussion of the warcrimes for a while."

The Chancellor nodded at his two bodyguards, and they silently stepeed back into place on either side of him. "Perhaps you are right, your Grace." Turning to look at the Loyalist Diplomat he filled his voice with Ice and Steel as he spoke. "I may not have been there in the last Danteri Civil War. But I have seen horrors inflicted upon children, and women, and men beyond the Scope of ANYTHING since my Emperors Armed forces landed in Danteri." Pinning the representative in his seat with his gaze, which despite his obviously frail body, nonetheless radiated strength. "This is why we do not want your former 'Government' to have anything to do with these people!" His chest began wheezing slightly as he took a few breaths but nonetheless he forced it down and continued to speak, with the calm collective authority that he had spent his life earning. "We judge, because we have Seen. You are lower than the dirt i scrape from my boot. And may our most Holy Emperor have mercy on you, because you will receive none from me for your actions in Danteri." Sitting back in his chair he kept that powerful gaze upon the Diplomat, causing him to squirm somewhat under its accusing glare. His breathing was laboured now and he stood up one final time. "I know what it is to give to my country, I know what it is to serve her people." Taking a deep breath and a sip of water he managed to continue speaking nonetheless. "Perhaps if you believe what you are saying here, you should submit yourself and your family to undergo the treatment you have afforded countless innocents yourself. I will agree to the Dukes proposal that talk of War-Crimes is put to one side for now. But You have No Right to sit there after what you have done to your people and Demand that we UNDERSTAND." His face deadly calm as he spoke "How dare you sit there with the Gall to act as though what you have done is forgiveable? How dare you?" Looking at the Rebel Delegations Diplomat, he spoke one last sentence. "Know that in all this you have done no wrong, you have only protected your people from these monsters."

Lieutenant Craig allowed himself to laugh a little,"Because it is forgiveable."
He straightened himself up,"All is fair in war, and what have they done? Sent children to fight? I remember the Rebels were recruiting children, too, how about you get on them about it as well?"
And then he looked directly at the Solorien, speaking almost as if no one else would hear it,"And you can shove your emperor up your ass."

"Both of you," the Duke shouted at the Lieutenant and Chancellor, leaping up from his chair. "Shut the damned hell up, or I'll deport you from my bloody country! All is not fair in love, war, or peace talks, and you both keep this conference from doing anything useful!"
The Duke, red-faced, sat heavily back down in his chair. "I realize we're all quite loyal to our causes, and there's a lot of justice to go around, but we're here think rationally about Danteri's future."

A knife sliced through the air with a sound like tearing silk and slammed into the Table in front of the Diplomat from Zukariaa vibrating slightly as it stuck point first from the table. "Never speak Ill of the Emperor again. Heretic." Yarlith snarled the words through his teeth despite the Chancellors hand on his arm. There was murder in the eyes of the other two bodyguards as well, and the Chancellor gave them both a warning glance. "Yarlith! Shai Thien Gur! Kal Reth Fier!" Yarlith bowed and stormed from the room. "My apologys Your Grace. He shall not be attending us anymore." Looking pointedly at the Knife. He took a deep breath before continuing. "I must apologise for Agent Yarliths reaction, he is... Highly strung."

The Duke stared at the knife in the table, and put his fingertips together. Ah, another mark of history on this table. Unpleasant history, but isn't most history?
"It appears most of us are high-strung. I'd call a recess, but I'd really like to get a consensus on at least the purpose of the conference," he frowned at the knife. "Is there, perhaps, a mistranslation with the term 'arms'?"
Nikolai rose to her feet to address the other delegates,
You all talk of war crimes and the slaughter of innocents, but this is a war and people do get killed in a war, civilian or soldier. The proposal that all factions are united into one is an idea that will not work, they all have different ideals and views and would not be able to function as a whole, this civil war is a prime example of that. As for the nation of freiburg it is one of unstability and will not be able to sustain itself, I do not know of what should become of it though.
She sat back into her seat and observed the response.

"There, that's a much better topic," the Duke sat up straight with a grunt. "What's to become of Freiburg? Since that assault upon it, its population has been sliced down to bare bones, and the devastation is immense. Is it to be abandoned, or rebuilt?"
He glanced around the room. "Excuse my ignorance, but did Freiburg send its own representative?"

"I Apologise most profusely Your Grace. Khalith, Rekja, Ithri Gur Nieth!" He nodded at the other two bodyguards who immediately reached into other pockets secreted about their person, and proceeded to lay out a further six knives of varying size. "There your Grace, i Apologise most profusely for my men. They are loyal, but very literal when it comes to certain orders." Looking at the Oomplian Reprsentative for a moment, he paused before speaking. "You are right, this is war, people die, people suffer. But nonetheless The former Government of Danteri, was wrong in its previous actions. We merely wish that such a situation need never arise again." Looking up at the Duke again he spoke: "Freiburg is devasated yes, but rebuilding has already begun. Under the guidance of our nation, and that of 23Eris, we have begun repairing the damage and healing the wounds. They will take many years to disappear, but we have begun."

"It wont happen again if we have an election for Loyalist Danteri." Lieutenant Craig said. He was kind of amused that the Solorien had done such a thing as throw a knife at him.
"As for Freiburg, we rebuild it and it does whatever the hell it wants. After what the Loyalists and they went through, I doubt they'll want to do much together."
Foreign minister Chilkevich watched the angry proceedings all the while holding his tongue. He would love nothing more than to give the fascist swine on the Loyalist side a severe thrashing, but he was here as a diplomat.
"As Freiburg has no real government at the moment, we are acting in the interests of that nation. Freiburg has been given full diplomatic recognition by the nation of 23Eris and is in the process of forming a provisional government. We are not willing to revoke such a recognition or even to discuss that topic. Freiburg is and will remain free and my nation will provide for its defense until it can sustain itself. We arrived too late to stop the terrible slaughter in the city itself, but it will not happen again, and the city will be rebuilt."
"Many refugees from Danteri found their way to 23Eris and, I am sure, many will wish to return to their homeland once peace is secured. There are also many prisoners our allies managed to save and free from your death camps Mr. Nord-Lund, they and the refugees that have escaped to our areas will most likely wish to remain. Freiburg will be rebuilt, but it will be rebuilt by the people of that nation with aid from my nation and I presume, Solorien. You will forgive me if I am reluctant to include your nation Lieutenant, in the list of those to aid Freiburg."
"Talk of dissolving factions and parties is premature. For now, each faction should build its own area and government as it sees fit. If in the future those governments wish to seek reunification, that is a matter for the Danteri people themselves."
"This brings me back to one of the first elements in the 23Eris aims here. We must agree to a demarcation of lines. This is what I recommend:
1. Freiburg will encompass all of the Freiburg/23Eris territory as well as Solorien held territory.
2. Areas held under the control of McPsychoville and Haraki will be allowed free elections under the supervision of a third party nation such as Haraki or Gwazzaria to determine their future.
3. New-Lexington forces will withdraw in good order and with minimal damage to property and civilian lives, from Southhaven.
4. The People's Committee will evacuate all areas of Westhaven under their control, under the same conditions as the Lexingtonian withdrawl.
5. The city of, I believe it is Drell, and the areas immediatly surrounding will hold a plebiscite under third party supervision to determine its future."

On Board the Requiem
Yagger watched, a little warily as Hethran summoned the cat to his side with just a click. "That's amazing." She stated, impressed at how well he could control the large cat. "I had a cat when I was a child, a house cat I mean, I couldn't even make it stay off the tables."
She glanced back at the cat again, then hesitantly took Hethran's arm for the walk to the upper deck. "I think you're right about the air. Plus, it would be nice to get outside for a while, as nice as it is in your ships. Oh, and feel free to call me Sara."

On Board the Requiem
Hethran smiled when she told him her name. "Thank you Sara, please call me James." Looking down at at She'ar he was pleased that the Huge Cat had taken to Sara so quickly. As they proceeded up the loading ramp to the main deck he absentmindedly stroked the head of his pet. Emerging up onto the Main deck, they were immediately to the right hand side of one of the huge triple 300mm cannons. Pointing them out he explained them to Sara. "Those are the main line of offense when the Requiem engages enemy ships. They can be outfitted with a series of different shell typse, ranging from High Explosive to Depleted Uranium." Clicking his tongue at She'ar he reached into his pocket and produced a large rubber balll, releasing her from the leash he threw the ball across the deck to an awaiting Deckhand, "Tie it off and keep her safe." he called, and the young man hurried to comply before calling over She'ar. With his other hand free he gestured to a series of raised bumps along the edge of the deck. "Those are the heavy AA Missile batterys, lethal to most modern fighter craft, there is very little they cannot track and bring down." as they contnued to stroll along the deck he continued describing gun types and defenses, and even showed her the huge radar dish built into the control tower. After almost half an hour of this he finally stopped and looked her in the eye. "Sara I know this must be terribly boring for you, let us instead sit, and i will tell you of my homeland, I feel that perhaps you have not heard of everything my nation is, and where it has come from." Gently steering her towards a few benches under the Immense cannons he sat her down, before sitting next to her. "Sara My nation is ancient, we can trace our history back to about 1800bc. Before then we were little more than a series of Feudal states, with warlords and chieftains battling it out for supremacy. And then the Emperor came." Looking out over the seas, his eyes slightly glazed over as he continued speaking. "We are told he descended in a column of Fire from the Heavens, and yet he was not burned, he united the 5 major clans of the time, and thus formed the foundations of the Empire." His voice too on a note of pride as he recounted his nations history. "For almost 1,000 years he united my people together, under one flag, and brought an Era of prosperity to my people that we had never known, it was a time of great enlightenment. Much knowledge was gained, and the great colleges of learning discussed daily the problems of my people. and then one year, it all came crashing down." A hint of sadness filled his voice as he continued to speak. "They were called the 'Kilreth Janhu' or Devil Warrior's. They were a long forgotten tribe from my people past, they had settled far beyond the borders of our nation when the Emperor first appeared to us. They swept through the land, killing, torturing, and raping. They seemed Unstoppable. My people were pacifists, we had long ago ceased to solve our problems with Violence, only the Holy Guard remained from those times, and they were viewed as an Obsolete Relic." His voice shook for a moment as he continued. "When all hope seemed lost, the Emperor emerged from his golden palace, riding a mighty steed with the ranks of the Holy Guard Behind him, and over the next 300 years he waged bloody war upon the Kilreth Janhu, slowly pushing them out of our lands. Until Finally they were contained far beyond our borders. And then, the Emperor showed them mercy, he could have crushed them, and had their name removed from our history, ensuring them eternal nothingnes, but he did not. Instead he offered them a place within our boundarys, if they promised to help repair what was left." Shaking his head sadly he looked across at Sara. "They Refused." A Look of sorrow crossed his face then. "The Emperor told themthat they were no longer welcome within our lands, that they were forever exiled, and no child of their blood would be allowed to step foot in our Empire. So saying he gathered up the Army he had amassed and headed back to our Borders. Once there, heordered the Construction of the Holy Wall." He let a smile of wistfulness for his homeland cross his face. "It was an Immense undertaking, it was to stretch along our western coast and southern coast, and along the base of the Khulith Jarkell mountains and finally cut us off from our ancient enemys to the east. 800 Years it took to finish, some 200ft tall all along its length, dotted with watchtowers every half a mile. the Emperor Remained with the workmen who built it, every day until it was finished. He dispatched resources and food to those citys that needed it to rebuild themselves. He even rode to the areas struggling most after the Invasion to provide Aid to those who required it. And slowly my Nation Recovered, the old wounds healed, and the people found new hope." Smiling at the ancient acts he shook his head slightly with a smile. "And that was when we discovered our Emperors true status as a God. Already we believed ourselves blessed, for our Emperor had lived for almost 2,000 years without aging, we knew this man to be special. But then he showed us with one simple act of power. He made it rain." A Look of wonder crossed his face and a far off look came into his eyes. "My homeland was once a wasteland of deserts and rocks. But the Emperor brought forth the rain, and for the first time in many thousands of years, the lands of Soloriel tasted the water. Slowly Forests began to grow, and we evolved from the simple people we once were, and under the guidance of the Emperor we began anew. He ordered the Colleges of War and History be re-opened, lest we were left unable to safeguard our people, and remember our past. The great Citadel was transformed, with almost 100 years of work, it became a city of marble and fine glass and gold." He smiled at the memorys of his childhood. "And then the Emperor re-opened the ancient colleges of learning, long neglected by my people in the fight for survival. And great advancements were made, we discovered thepower of steam, and gravity. We developed the powerful Black Rock found in the Mountains and in it found the Chemical basis of that stuff we now call Gun-Powder. In great leaps and bounds we caught up with the rest of the world, and once again became a nation where the light of civilisation became almost blinding in its brilliance. And thus we have remained, on occasion my people have ventured outside the Holy Wall, and engaged in battle, to defend those under oppression. But ours is a history of violence and rebirth, and many of my people have little trust of outsiders. They have brought only pain to my People, and the Emperor in all his glory, has sheltered us as best he can." Sighing once he looked far out over the sea. Almost seeming to picture his Homeland with its comforts and safety, that he missed so dearly.
The Conference
The Chancellor listened carefully to all the proposals set forward by the Diplomat from 23Eris. These people are wise and fair, My Emperor has once again shown his wisdom in suggesting an alliance with them he thought to himself. "The Holy Nation of Soloriel seconds all points made by the people of 23Eris, we feel that what they have suggested for the moment, is most likely the best course of action until such a time as the people of Danteri, seek Re-Unification." Looking up and down the table to all the delegates assembled he continued speaking. "For now rebuilding is the key here, without the appropriate infra-structure inplace, the pople will suffer greatly in the coming months. We have tried our best, and our initial landing sight Stronghold. Has quickly become a small city in its own right, we have shipped as many supplys over that we can, and for now that will suffice. But we need to get the people back on their feet, and supporting themselves. We will not be able to Aid them forever."
Sara listened to the story of Solorien with candid interest. She was fiercly curious about the nation, its people, and their strange fanatacism for their Emperor. She watched James closely as he spoke, noted the change that seemed to come over him as he recalled the tale, almost as if the story were burned into his mind with the ease at which he retold the story. When he began to talk about the Emperor, Sara became even more interested and somewhat appalled. How could Admiral Hethan, James, a completely sensible man actually believe his ruler had lived for thousands of years. It just was not possible. She herself had little use for gods or mythology, though she paid lipservice to the goddess Eris, she did not believe as did James. She believed more in fact, in what she could see, touch, feel, not in unsupported faith.
"That is an amazing story Ad- I mean, James. I hope that your Emperor's trust in me and my people is not misplaced. I would hate to find my own place in your legends for leading to the downfall of your people." Sara teased slightly. Then she looked away and out to sea. "I think it only fair that I relate to you the story of my land and people. It is also my story in many ways."
Though it is not as old as yours, my nation is proud and fiercly independent. A hundred-or-so-odd years ago, the islands that make up my nation were discovered by warships from the nation of New Sparta. They circumvented the islands and found no indigenous peoples to oppress, so they moved on, though they claimed the land in the name of Sparta. Eventually, the Spartans set up a small outpost there, the islands were a useful waypoint after all. Still later, as Sparta conquered new lands and encountered new ideas they did not care for, they needed a pace to put dissidents. After all, why simply kill them when you can use them as labor? The Spatans began this in earnest when gold and silver were discovered in the mountains. Eventually, the veins of these metals ran dry and the island became a backwater once more, housing a small military force, a few iron miners, and the survivors and descendents of those deported there."
"With Spartan interest waning, their grip on the people relaxed and soon vanished altogether as Sparta became embroiled in another series of wars. Those who desired freedom or to escape te Spartan military machine fled to the island to establish a new life there. Eventually, the wars ended as they all inevitably do, and Sparta found new enemies near our homeland. This turned Sparta's eye back to the islands. As he military returned, Spartan law and justice were reinstated with brual speed."
"Parents had their children taken from them, forced to join the Spartan war machine. People were taken to New Sparta to be tried for crimes, even petty crimes; the judgements were harsh and never favorable to our people."
"Finally a group of dissidents began to protest peacefully against the Spartan rule, demanding changes and autonomy but not independence. Sparta could not tolerate this and suppressed those who spoke out. Sparta could not silence them all though. One woman, a young woman named Appolline, who styled herself as the twenty-third incarnation of the goddess Eris refused to remain silent. She began to preach of open defiance and how rules who care not for the ruled do not deserve to rule. And people listened."
"Spartan officials became alarmed at the ever increasing gatherings around this woman, and so they had her arrested and put on trial. She was returned to Sparta where she was found guilty of treason and sentenced to be executed. Her execution was televised, broadcast to our people as they first tortured her but could not make her plead for forgiveness. Then they eviscerated her alive before strangling her to death. Her death unified the dissidents in a call to action."
"Our own Prime Minister and her husband became leaders of the rebellion, engaging spartan forces and melting away into the forests and mountains. I joined the rebellion in its second year after my father was killed. Spartan troops suspected he and his fellow miners were supporting the rebels, they hadn't done anything. While we watched, they were led into the mines, then sealed inside to die, buried alive. The familes were then rounded up, many were simply shot, some of the women fared worse. My mother was one of the lucky ones who was killed quickly. I managed to escape before they laid a hand on me. Finally I came across a rebel encampment and they fed me, clothed me, and I joined them. Our Prime Minister, during that second year, is said to have shot her own husband when she discovered he was planning to seize power from the rebels and make himself a dictator. We fought for another year and a half, finally we had the makings of a navy, airforce, and a real army. We were finally a match for the Spartans, and as they failed to put down our revolt, Sparta's old enemies began to prey on her weakness. They sent us aid and declared war on the Spartan nation. In that last year, the entirity of the Spartan Empire collapsed. We were finally free. Our homland was in ruins, more than half the population had been killed by the war, but we were free. We have since made a remarkable recovery though there is still a lot to do."
"In some ways, my people seem the opposite of yours James. Like a mirror image, or something like that. Your counry is old, huge, and xenophobic. Mine small, new, and xenophillic. Your people also seem to well, glorify soldiery, mine despise it as a distasteful necessity."
"Even your chancellor, he thinks I'm a soldier. I'm not. I only became one out of necessity. I don't love this, I hate it. I despise the killing, the waste-" Sara stopped herself, blinked her eyes slowly to clear them, and then continued. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling again." Inwardly she couldn't help but think that her commanders had made a mistake in choosing her as their liasion officer.

Aboard the Requiem
James listened to Sara as she related the history of her people, and he could not help but feel pity for them. These were a people greatly abused, and to hear of the torture of this woman Appoline. He shudderd inwardly at the thought of such cruelty, for such a worthless reason. Placing his hand on her shoulder as shereached the end of her tale, he squeezed it comfortingly, and offered her a handkerchief. "Sara you are not alone in losing the ones you love." His voice barely above a whisper. "I lost... people close to me, a long time ago. My wife and second child. They were at my country estates, I was a young Captain then, arrogant and sure of my own self worth. My daughter Katarina, persuaded my wife to show her the lands outside the walls to the east. Ella, being the soft hearted woman she was, agreed." His voice shuddered slightly and pain shot through his face mingled with long suppressed grief. "They were caught, and brutally tortured before they were executed. Their bodys maimed, and deposited at the eastern arch, for the gate guards to discover." his voice shaking, but his jaw rigid, the muscles on his neck stood out, and his fists were clenched. "I was out at sea at the time, aboard my first ship The Hand of Winter. Word did not reach me until we had returned. And by then it was many weeks late in arriving." Shaking his head clear of the images he saw, he looked out to sea, "I believed the Emperor had forsaken me, that i had done some wrong. in his eyes. And then I was blessed. my first child recovered from the disease that had kept her from me for so many years. And together we grieved, and found new strength. My faith in the Emperor burned brighter, for i truly believed that he had blessed me with the life of my firstborn child." Shaking his head sadly he looked away from her. "I have not seen her in many years, This was to be my last command, before i returned home. She would be a young girl now, i left her when she was 8." Reaching inside his shirt he withdrew a large silver locket, flicking it open it contained two pictures, one was of John, many years younger, with a woman and two children. The second was one taken not so long ago, of a teenage girl, beautiful, but desolate. her whole pose seemed to radiate grief, and loss. Passing the locket over to Sara he continued. "She will be 16 this year. And i hope more than anything, that i will be there to celebrate it with her." Looking across at Sara, his eyes had cleared, and he held the same detached pose he had always held. "Sara I know you do not believe that the Emperor made the right choice in selecting you. But he has his reasons. He sees the same qualitys in you that I do. Do not doubt that, all these things will become clear." Clearing his throat he looked out to seaonce again.

OOC: i meant i had 1,000,000 troops there total, i had already deployed 500,000, so i deployed 500,000 more, i guess worded that wrong
"My fellow delegates" began Harris "must we continue to bicker and throw knives at each other? Or shall we begin the talks eh?
Rynald Strum, the rebel delegate, spoke again, "Actually, we're representing Freiburg. It wants a democracy too... so, we're going to both join together... the only question that remains in whether it will be a capitalist or communist democracy."
At that point, Harold Von Nord-Lund lept up, screaming, "So! Now you all go crawling to hide together? Fools and lossers! We shall see you rotting in a common grave! Danteri, the true Danteri nation, will triumph over everything! We will endure! Danteri will endure! Our triumph will come, and when it does, you, all of you, your Emperor Soloriel, your "liberty" 23Eris, your "freedom", all of you who cry out that that is the most precious thing... all will burn as we triumph forever! You call us tyrants, but we kept Danteri together! We are justified - history will justify us! Victory or death, and in death, victory!" At that point, Rynald Strum interupted him, screaming out,
"Are you the most diplomatic man they could send? Are you the best of their number? You are a monster, a murderor and a servant of a murderous regime, and I will not listen to this anymore! If you will not talk about the possibility of peace, then we will go back to fighting... and when we do, Soloriel will help us, and it will be we who burry you!" Harold Von Nord-Lund replied to that with a calm, sarcastic tone:
"Really? You will burry us? Well then, I have to ask - how about accepting this proposal: we keep everything that our allies and our armies hold, you keep everything that your allies and your armies hold. We will establish two Danteris - one Western Danteri, one Danteri. Is that proposal acceptable to you?"

"I agree to it." replied Lieutenant Craig,"Zukariaa will make sure Loyalist Danteri can stand on its own feet, make sure the Loyalists arn't fighting other factions, and weed out these anti-peace bastards."
He faced the Chancellor,"You may think that Zukariaa is not trustworthy, but just because we are a militarily-ruled country does not mean we do not want peace in the world."
At the rate this is going, he thought to himself, Peace will never happen..

At the Conference
Staring calmly at the representative from Zukariaa, the Chancllor listedn to the man, and the rant of the Loyalist scum. Looking calmly across the table at the Zukariaan Diplomat, he chose his words carefully before he spoke. "Mr. Craig, I believe that perhaps this is the wisest thing said so far. But." He flicked his eyes purposefully to the rolled up pictures still in his lap. "But perhaps the earlier proposals from 23Eris could be discussed first? Also, Considering the old prejudices both sides in this conflict have with one another. Perhaps it is time, on both sides for a shake-up of party political power. 'Old Grudges Breed New Hate' they say." Glancing at the representatives from the Loyalists and the Rebels before continuing. "We stand by the Free Republic of Freiburg in this, if the Loyalists will not agree to peace. Then we will wage bloody war until they do." Clearing hsi throat slightly he leaned back in his chair. "These people deserve peace, they have gone too long without it. And the longer we sit here and do nothing, the more people are going to suffer. Surely Mr. Craig, you can see this?"

Lieutenant Craig sighed, then said,"About the labour-camps and prisoners, I would say that it would be easier on Loyalists to not have the responsibility over them, anyways. I advise that we hand them over, we don't need them or want them."
He looked to at the Loyalist, and back,"No more conscription of children under 16. If we're going to be at peace, we don't need them, and they can go back to their families, or better yet, help with rebuilding.
"I think that the Loyalist Danteri citizens should vote for representatives, who would speak to the Supreme Leader about what they want. The Supreme Leader should be someone who can lead, but wont be shooting his own men in the head."
"Zukariaa hold no grudges with anyone, and if you do not want us helping to rebuild in other parts of Danteri, we accept that."
"I still do not agree to the dissolving of factions and governments. There are too many factions with different views who would not want to be together."
Peace Conference, Gwazzaria
"It is not that we would not appreciate any offers of aid for Freiburg or other areas Lieutenant, but as your troops are allies of the Loyalist faction, and given the bad blood that exists... I believe it would be safer to remain seperate. A major incident could respark this entire damnable war." Chilkevich responded, glad to see the Zukariaan could be reasonable. "I too would like to hear discussion on the 23Eris border proposal before moving to another proposal. However, if you wish to rid yourself of your prisoners, our forces would be glad to accept them, and in return, exchange any of our prisoners who wish to return to Loyalist territory."

"Good, we request that if we are releasing all of our prisoners, all other factions release Loyalist, Zukariaan, Oompli, and New-Lexitonian prisoners. This way they can get home to their families. And I beleive thats some 300,000 Loyalist soldiers and conscripts, most likely much more."
Sara Von Freiburg returned to the meeting a few hours after she had been carried out, with a report stating that she had suffered a "moderate concusion". She responded to that by saying it was nothing - her friends had had vanished to the death camps... she could endure a concusion.
When she returned, one of the first things she did was to say this:
"All right. These fascist pigs want to deal with us, but they can't seem to understand that we want liberty. We will... to quote an old saying, we will "live free or die"."At that point, Harold Von Nord-Lund spoke in a mocking reply:
"Then you will die! You peasants, you workers in the factories, how can you not understand? You were born slaves, and you will die slaves too... the only question is whether you die as slaves in the factory from overwork or in the ditches from a bullet to your head. Ms. Von Freiburg... I've had my men do some research on your family. Your mother was killed by the Fuel-Air-Explosive, unfortunately, your father died a while ago... but, your sister Ellen lived in Westgate. As such, I would like to inform you that, since she was being held for anti-government activity, I took the liberty of ordering her execution. Before procedings continue, I would like all of you in the rebel delegation to consider what we might do with those of your friends and family members we have in our custody... things could get ugly." with that, he sat back in his seat, a viciously sadistic grin plastered on his face. It was clear that he enjoyed the flash of pain that appeared on Sara Von Freiburg's face, and it was also clear that he was used to doing things like this.
Finally, after a tense moment of silence, Rynald Strum spoke: "You threaten our families? I have two sons - your men already killed them. My wife died in your death camps... I have nothing left that you can use against me. Why then do you threaten innocents? Why then do you dare act in such a monstrous manner? All that you will do is turn the whole world against you..." he finally stopped, and sipped from his water glass, a look of sorrow and disgust on his tired face. Harold Von Nord-Lund replied, a merry look, one that would have not been out of place on the face of a child in a toy store told he could have anything he wanted, covering his face,
"Actually... your wife is still alive. That's why I brought it up, you see... Sara here, her sister's execution was really a tool, a reminder that I have used here to show that I mean bussiness. Your wife is currently inside a top-security facility in Westgate... along with a few other family members of the members of your delegation... they are fine right now, are even being well fed... but, if you do not accept our proposal, we will start torturing them. As for proof..." with that, he drew out a sheaf of photograpghs - they showed a tired, scared, miserable group of twenty or so ragged individuals, all but four of whom were women... those four were all little children.
This latest horrific revelation elicited gasps of shock from the members of the rebel delegation. With a look of misery in his eyes, Rynald Strum looked to the Haraki delegate, as though beseehing the delegate from the nation that had shown the most care for human suffering to say something.

"Thank you. I am terribly sorry for your loss James." Sara said, reaching out a hand to touch his arm. "At least you have your daughter. She is very pretty, though she seems so very sad in the photograph."
Sara passed the locket back to Hethan and forced a small smile. "YOu should return to her as soon as you can. Every girl needs her father you know, and while I am sure service to your Emperor is rewarding, you will regret if you miss the rest of her childhood, after all, your Emperor will still be there in a few years."

He got up and walked to the Loyalist delegate and whispered into his ear,"What are you doing? We need to go through this peace crap! This isn't helping!"
The leader of the Loyalist delegation, Harold Von Nord-Lund, who had just issued this ultimatum, smilled as the Zukariaan envoy whispered something into his ear. With a bitter laugh, he stood, and calmly spoke, the light of maddness now practically glowing about him:
"Well, well, well... you know what? I think we might need to negotiate... my Zukariaan colege here has just asked me what the hell am I up to... and I have to say, I am doing what needs to be done... however, I might be convinced that... perhaps, these poor souls could be released... perhaps. Perhaps. The Zukariaans seem to want to act as the "voice of rationality" now, don't they? If they do, then the more power to them... but, I have one thing to say: I believe in all of this, you see? However... the Zukariaans have a point. We will have a little private discourse on this matter, speaking as allies, and then give you a response... I hope that is acceptable?" he ended his speach with a calm smile on his face... and a madness seen most often on the faces of serial killers in his eyes.

"Thank you Sara" he placed the locket back against his chest, and folded his jacket and shirt back into place. "Your words ring true, its just... so damn hard to return to her after so long. What would I do? What would I say?" Looking out to sea he sighed. "I dont know anymore." For a few minutes he st like that, his mind on distant things. "Im sure that everything is going well at the Conference."
At the Conference
The Chancellors eyes widened as the Loyalist scum showed the photograph to the Rebels. Gesturing for Khalith he whispered in his ear as he leaned down in High Solorien. "Send word to Yerrith, Execute operation "Black Death" Inform him of these developments, and tell him to locate that facility and get those people out of there, if this conference falls apart because of that madman, we will have no choice but to re-instigate the Purify and Protect order." Khalith nodded and hurried out of the building, reaching for the short range radio in his belt pouch. Radioing the message to the helicopter crew at the airport, they relayed the message back to the Requiem, who in turn Relayed it to the Truth.
The Chancellor leaned over to the Rebel Delegate and whispered in his ear, "Do not worry, things are in hand, we will see this matter safely through. You have my word." Sitting back he faced the Loyalist Delegate "So finally the monster shows its true face?" Looking along the table meeting each of the delegates gaze he continued. "Perhaps now you can see why we landed our forces there in the first place, and why the issue of what these monsters did, is relevant to what they will continue to do."
Deep behind Loyalist Lines
Captain Bret received his updated orders from the Admiral, they were deep within Westgate now, they had lain low for days, awaiting their final orders. "Roger that Saint we will proceed with Black Death, out." He placed the radio back in its place. Before relaying his orders to the men.
Aboard the Truth
"Redirect the Satellites, I want that area scoured for that facility, Bret and his men need to find it now!" Looking at his crew Yerriths intensity forced them all to waver slightly. "Get those things looking Now!" As his crew rushed to their stations Yerrith looked out over the sea towards the coast Emperor guide me on my path...
Solorien Actions:
- All available spy satellites have been redirected from their orbits, and are scouring Westgate from the atmosphere, with the hope that they can find the Facility they were told about.
- Bret and his men have begun the final phases of their mission. As soon as the Facility is located, they will attempt an extraction.
- 4 Flights of Vulcans flying at their maximum ceiling so as to avoid Radar Detection will conduct sub atmospheric recon, to help the satellites find the facility.
The city of Westgate is, to put it bluntly, one of the most militarized cities on the planet. Seriously, counting all the Oompli, New-Lexingtonian, Zukariaan and Loyalist soldiers, the soldiers (and security men...) there outnumber the civilians about six to one. As such, sneaking around is going to be increadibly difficult...
As for the facility, it will likely be (from analysis of previous Danteri Government practices) an underground site, located in the sub-basements of a government building. Of course, that still leaves a lot of sites to check...

"... and they are threatening to torture and kill the hostages." related the new deputy FM.
"Despicable. Do they really think that we will not act if they do this?" asked Prime Minister Hekatos.
"But what can we do? We don't have a true special forces unit for these operations."
"No, but we can rattle the sabre at least. Move all our forces in Danteri back to full alert. Let's make sure they realize we are serious." replied the PM.
"That might just make them kill the hostages ma'am." replied General Thomson. "I suggest we do move to full alert, but quietly. I'll send a message to Papadakis. He needs to get back to Danteri should the worst happen."
"What do we do then?" asked the Prime Minister, feeling rather helpless. Things had been a lot easier when she was leading the revolutionaries, not a government.
"I suggest we condemn, but do not act." General Thomson replied. "Other nations, notably Haraki and Soloriel, are more capable in any type of rescue operation."
"Very well." Prime Minister Hekatos replied with some resignation and frustration apparent on her face.

Requiem
A flash encoded message shot to the Solorien vessel Requiem. A transport plane was being dispatched from Danteri to pick up Colonel Papadakis from the vessel and return him to Danteri thanks to developments at the peace talks.
Harold Von Nord-Lund had just come out of his private consultations with the Zukariaan envoy... he looked positively down-trodden, as though his favorite pet had died... but, he spoke:
"All right. Zukariaa has convinced us that it would be in our best interests to release the hostages. As such, we're letting them go. They will be brought to the border and released, no worse for the wear... except for some of the women... you know how the guards can get..." he seemed to recover some of his previous sadistic animation as he made that last comment... he seemed to revel in the looks of horror on the faces of the men whose wives, sisters and daughters he had just casually mentioned. However, one of the rebel delegates did not have an expression of shock or horror on her face - Sara Von Freiburg had an expression of disgust and hate on her face, as she spoke:
"Monster. You really enjoy your little games, don't you? I wonder what fate a man like you would have had if he had been born into a regular nation, where criminals are punished, not placed in charge of the security forces. I would like to think you would either be in prison... or reformed, taken when you were a child and your sickness was realized, and given psychiatric care, not tortured and moulded into the form of a worse monster so that you could serve a monstrous regime... I promise you, right now, that if I ever have the choice, I will kill you. I didn't believe pure evil existed, you know, until I had to deal with you." with that, she shuddered, then mockingly crossed herself, like a real believer might have done to ward off a demon.
He replied then, a look of anger on his face:
"You would kill me? I have released the prisoners! Anyway, I wouldn't kill you if you were captured... not imediatly at any rate..."
At that point, Sara Von Freiburg tried to murder Harold Von Nord-Lund for the second time... and, this time she almost succeded, as even his guards hesitated to come to the aid of a man who had just proven himself such a monster. They were soldiers, after all, not Danteri Government Security men.
- The Loyalist hostages have been released.
- Sara Von Freiburg attempted to murder Harold Von Nord-Lund, and darn near suceeded... until one of his guards reluctantly pulled her off him. She was unhurt, but Von Nord-Lund had to be taken to the infirmary with a nervous collapse.

Just then, Papadakis came running up the steps followed closely by a Solorien. He skidded to a halt as he saw Sara and Admiral Hethan together. "Captain!" he said loudly, causing Sara to bolt upright, dropping her hold of Hethan's arm.
"C-colonel, what are you doing here?"
"I should ask you the same question Captain, but I am heading back to Danteri. There were some developments at the conference. I need to head back to Danteri in case this blows up in our faces. I'm going to Gwazzaria now to meet my plane." Papadakis replied, his eyes icy with a hint of worry. "And Captain, we will discuss this later."
Papadakis hurried away to a helicopter that was quickly revving up its rotors to carry him off. As he left, Sara stood there, dumb, her head slumped forward and her eyes half closed. "Oh goddess..." she said softly, though as to what she didn't make clear.
OOC: I'll just assume Papadakis doesn't find out till airborne and will return to Danteri anyway. Sara of course, knows nothing of the peace conference except what she inferrs from Papadakis.

Leaning over the Chancellor whispered in his ear. "Lieutenant, perhaps now you can see what our causes are for removing the Loyalists from power. I propose that perhaps it would be best if you aided us in this. You have the troops and capabilitys to remove the loyalists from power right now. Soloriel has no interest in this conflict other than to save lives. We propose that if you were to remain in power after the removal of the Loyalists, then Zakariaa could institute a new form of government, under your rules, by your own eminent example." Looking up at the man briefly he nailed him in place with his eyes. "Soloriel will support you in this, and it will earn you the respect of all other delegates here, especially after the display that monster just put them through. Please consider it, meet me in my quarters later, and i will discuss it in further detail with you."

Lieutenant Craig thought for a moment, he could betray the trust of the Loylists to help the other side, or he could refuse. It was a tough decision. He had to think about it,"I'll think about it. For now, I'm going to talk to the Loyalists about some of the issues."
He started to move, then said,"Sorry about my outbursts earlier." Then walked to his seat.
Chilkevich watched the proceedings with a praciced silence. There was little he could in reality do. Though the thought had crossed his mind to stop Von Freiburg from attacking Nod-Lund, he did not move himelf to do so. Nord-Lund had brought that upon himself, and he secretly rather hoped the woman would succeed in her effort to murder the Loyalist 'diplomat'.
Inwardly, he made a note about Freiburg, unstable, but very interesting. He hoped she would remain for more of these peace proceedings, she was slowly eliminating the opposing diplomats, and making it easier for him.

"Oh what am i going to do Maureen?" he asked his wife.
"Hmm lets see id say you need to stop worrying about all that, its killing you honey"
"Yes, well because there's a murder attemp every day in Danteri, and all of Irmo is well insane"...
- Harold Von Nord-Lund, the chief negotiator for the Danteri Loyalists, has recovered from his "nervous collapse". As such, no one has actually died at the peace conference yet...
When Harold Von Nord-Lund arrived back in the room, he looked... different. Maybe it was the whole "getting beaten up by a woman" thing - he had probably never been on the recieving end of a beating since he was a small boy... most likely, he had given them out with fair regularity... but, no matter. Now he looked like a scared man - he actually winced when Sara Von Freiburg looked at him! That of course made all his posturing and rhetoric look ridiculous.
When he had sat down and taken a moment to compose himself, Von Nord-Lund spoke again:
"All right. Here's what I'll do. I'll make a new proposal - the 23Erisian proposal... add on the other territories we control... basically, let us have our Western Danteri. We can accept peace..." at that point, he fell silent and stared at the table for a moment.

The rebel leadership has responded by withdrawing all official support for the BLF... however, covertly, (very covertly) they are still supporting them.

The Conference
The Chancellor nodded at Davis, and allowed a slight smile to cross to his face, The man is reasonable, and at least open to suggestion he thought to himself, and then looked up as the Loyalist Diplomat re-entered the room. Noting his two agents were getting twitchy again. Waving them both to his side, he listened to the Loyalist's words. "But what promises can you make that this government will not continue the savage and barbaric practices of the past? Will you be willing to allow the people feedom from fear?" Waving his arm so that it pointed directly at Sara Von Freiburg, he continued. "How many more women like this will suffer the loss of a family, if you continue in your ways?"
Harold Von Nord-Lund looked at the Solorielan delegate, and spoke with a slow tone:
"Well... sometimes sacrifices have to be made. People suffer so that people can live... for something like three quarters of a century, Danteri has suffered so that Danteri can continue to exist. Oppression might look harsh to you, with your smaller problems, but... it's better than the alternative, the anarchy that would come when order collapsed. We do what needs to be done, and you can hate us for it, but...we get the job done." with that, he gestured for one of the secretaries to bring him a sheaf of papers - "Here is the Loyalist offer for peace. We are willing to allow the rebels to declare the territory that they hold a soverign nation... but, we will continue to hold our territory. What can you find wrong with that?"
The anti-peace terrorists have launched another attack - government buildings all throughout the minor towns in Westfall have been attacked and set on fire. Riots are spreading as the Loyalist Security Police either do nothing... or, join the rioters, calling for the removal of the Loyalist government from power.
- Something like 7,500 civilians have lost their lives during the rioting.
- Sixty four government buildings have been set fire to.
- 980 government officials and members of the still-loyal Security Police have lost their lives.
- Around fifty million Confederate marks worth of property damage has been inflicted upon civilian homes and buissinesses.
The bandits preying upon civilians near the Haraki Safe-Zones have attacked a Haraki patrol with the apparent intention of taking hostages. Casualties and results of this attack are unknown, but around one hundred rebel soldiers took part in this attack on the smallest Haraki patrol they could find, apparently trying to take as many prisoners as possible.
Massive numbers of the feared rebel commandos are "vanishing" - it seems as though the new rebel government has some covert operations going on...
- Something like 200 rebel commandos have "vanished" from their positions - they appear to be carrying out some missions...

"I find that agreeable" said Lieutenant Craig. He didn't have much to say, and had a lot to think about. He had had one of his soldiers send a message to High Commander Corrol, and was waiting for his reply.
A patrol of ten Harakian soldiers from the third brigade was today attacked by Danterian bandits. They managed to get off a radio broadcast for reinforcements, citing overwhelming numbers, and satellite imagery captured detailed information of the firefight, with near a hundred bandit soldiers attacking the small Harakian patrol, which was on foot to the north of the safe zones. Armoured vehicles, infantry backup involving nearly an entire company of troops, and close air support were all dispatched, as well as supporting fire from self-propelled artillery batteries, but to no avail. Four Harakians were killed, three wounded and apparently captured by the bandits, one captured but unwounded, and two managed to escape on foot to link up with the reinforcements and tell their story.
Since many dead or wounded bandits appear to have been taken with them when they fled the scene of the ambush, it is impossible to tell how many bandits were killed or wounded, although estimates from satellite imagery are anywhere from twenty up, with some estimates including the damage from the artillery support getting as high as sixty.
Satellites are tracking the bandits, who are currently being pursued by attack planes and soldiers in military jeeps and light armoured vehicles. A tank platoon has been dispatched to try and cut off the bandits' escape route, artillery batteries are rolling into place to provide support for the eventual fight, and multiple Harakian capital ships have left their port to provide naval fire support close to the coast.
In response to this attack, all Harakian patrols outside the safe zone cities have been doubled in size from one squad to two, and will now whenever possible also include vehicles and heavy fire support.
The bandits fleeing from the Haraki have entered the nearby hills, where they appear to have a base which, while it is well concealed from observation by the naked eye, is not very well concealed from high tech instruments. As such, its location is known.
There appear to be about eight hundred bandits, several improvised Armoured Fighting Vehicles, and several dozen civilian prisoners, with who the Haraki are now being housed. At this point, the only question is how to safely get the Haraki soldiers out...
Rioting continued throughout Westfall today, with hundreds more lossing their lives to government reprisals and brutality. Apparently, some sort of religious leader, claiming to be the Second Coming, has now ammassed a sizeable following, partially consisting of armed soldiers, and could cause quite a bit of chaos... although right now he seems more intersted in persecuting the muslim minority than in overthrowing the government.
- Around 5,000 civilians lost their lives during this next phase of rioting.
- Around 500 Loyalist Security Police and soldiers have lost their lives during the rioting so far.
- Forty three government buildings have been set on fire.
- This new faction has about 15,000 members now, all of whom are armed, and of which something like 5,000 are former Loyalist soldiers. Currently, they are being ignored by the Loyalist security forces as they aren't attacking the government, but rather launching their "crusade" against the local islamic minority (about 5% of the population in the area they're opperating in).
The horde of ragged men wore the tattered remains of civilian clothing or military uniforms alike, and carried AK-47s and RPG launchers... as well as giant iron crosses, which they seemed to carry for no reason other than the act itself.
They shambled forward into the town, where the rioters had just burned the local police station to the ground, and formed a rough line in the square. Their leader wore rags and chains, and had cut a cross into his chest. He had the wildness of maddness in his eyes as he addressed his followers:
"God has cast down the corrupt secular government... He has made it clear that they are not pleasing to him. As that is the case, we must purge this land of the ungodly, so that He might shower us with his mercy once more... in the name of God the Merciful, who loved humanity enough to send us His only Son, we must kill every heretic we find!" with that, he drew a pistol out of his robes, and waved it in the air, shouting out:
"The end times are here, and God is with us!"
The religious rebels have occupied a small town, driving out the Loyalist garrison. Once they took the town, they apparently killed everyone in it that they didn't like. Around 500 people in all were killed.
Rynald Strum was looking less and less well as the negotiations wore on. He had hardly been a man in good health when they had began, but... now he was a mere stick-figure, and it looked like he was wasting away before their very eyes. Whatever the case, he still found the strength to glare angrily at the Loyalist delegation as he spoke:
"Well, it seems that you are having trouble in your territory? How... how sad. Yet, in the end, even the maniac who claims he is the second coming might serve a purpose beyond reminding us of the dangers of letting lunatics lead mass movements. We have suffered enough. Danteri has suffered enough. We all want peace. Why don't we have it? What is it that prevents a settlement? Is all of this a charade, a ruse to gain time for reinforcements to arrive, for arms to be built and conscripts to be trained? Why do we even bother... or, is this genuine? If it is, then I have to ask: why can we not accept the Loyalist offer? Two Danteris, a Western Danteri and a Danteri. Why not? If it means an end to the bloodshed..." at that point, he steadied himself, and took a large sip from his glass of water, finally continuing,
"I am an old man, by Danteri standards. I am sick, I am dieing. My fondest wish is to see Danteri at peace before I die... why will that be denied me?"
with that, he took another sip of water, and seemed to deflate, as though with his hopes and dreams poured out into the open, nothing remained as motivation.
The religious fanatics have continued their campaign, fighting off a half hearted Loyalist counter-attack intended to retake the town they had seized. All in all, eighty rebels, ninety five Loyalist soldiers and forty civilians died in the fighting.
Harold Von Nord-Lund stroked his neck, apparently deep in thought... and then spoke, replying to Rynald Strum's earlier statement:
"All right. Two Danteris. We can live with that... the only question is one of boundaries..."

Lieutenant had recieved his commands. He stood up,"Guards, arrest these men!" He pointed at the Loyalist delegates. The Zukariaan guards stepped forward, a confusedly, trying to figure out whether to actually do it, and also to watch the Loyalist guards.
Lieutenant Craig looked around at the faces of the surprised ambassadors. He landed his gaze on the Chancellor and said,"Its done. We're taking over all of Loyalist territory and its government as of now. We speak for them, and we tell them what to do. Zukariaan soldiers all across Loyalist Danteri are to capture Loyalist officials, and make sure that no Loyalist soldiers fight back. If they do, they'll be arrested temporarily or shot. You got what you wanted."

"Excuse me?" Duke said and polite coughed, watching the increasingly interesting proceedings. "This is Gwazzarian soil. You're a few hundred kilometers into it. You have no authority to arrest them. Now, you suddenly up and taking over all of Loyalist territory - this is an act of war against your former allies, yes?"

"There is simply going to be a reformation of the government." he said, then he looked at the guard,"Not arrest him, guard him."
Then he said,"We're going to take over Loyalist Land, reform the government, rebuild, and withdraw. We're helping more than hurting anyone here."
Gwazzaria
22-04-2006, 03:33
"I don't think they'll like it, but I don't disapprove," the Duke shrugged. "I'm just concerned this won't be another little civil war, and increase the problems that are already cropping up in this unstable peace."
He sat back, awaiting the outrage of the other nations, and especially Loyalist delegates.
The Loyalist guards went for their sidearms - it was sheer reflex - they stiffened when they remembered that their sidearms were safely locked away in a hotel safe.
Harold Von Nord-Lund, chief speaker of the Loyalist delegation, stood, a sort-of smile on his face, and said:
"All right. Men, stand down. We surrender. There is no use in us having a brawl in the council chambers. However... I'm sure my colleges back home will give you rather more of a fight. Of course, they don't really stand a chance... but, if Western Danteri is to become a Zukariaan pupet state, it won't go down without a fight." with that, he stood, and raised his hands over his head in a mocking version of the posture taken by soldiers surrendering.
While this was happening, Sara Von Freiburg actually laughed - she shouted out:
"So, the mighty Von Nord-Lund surrenders? I would like to see how effective the military would be under your command! You shame the nation of Danteri!"
At that point, the Loyalist guards were surrendering, looking vaguely surprised and ashamed all the while.
The Danteri Government Security building in Westgate was an imposing structure... but, it fell with surprising ease to the Zukariaan surprise attack. Most of the guards were half-trained conscripts, and only a few even tried resisting. Out of all the guards, eighteen were killed and the rest either wounded and captured or just captured. In the end, the Danteri Government Security board that had been running the Loyalist war effort since the death of Juliete Von Easthaven in her nuclear pyre, they surrendered in good order, seated around their table, half-way through a discussion about policy when the Zukariaan soldiers burst in.
Rebel troops massed along the border with Loyalist-held Western Danteri in response to the recent developments at the peace conference... it looks like this truce might fall apart soon if nothing in done...
Meanwhile, the religious rebels have attacked a Loyalist-held town, killing over 200 Loyalist soldiers and seizing the town. It looks bad for the Loyalists...

[High Commander Corrol
Today is a new day for Danteri!! The Zukariaan Military has taken Loyalist Held Danteri! They are no longer in power, but the borders are closed at the moment while we clean up the mess we've left. We are here to change the Loyalists forever! No longer shall Danteri be oppressed!
Zukariaan troops were all along the border, trying to keep the rebels back, yelling that the lands were now coming to peace.
High Commander Corrol has ordered that Zukariaan soldiers hunt down and kill any of these anti-peace rebels.
Zachary Mitas seemed slightly taken aback at the sudden assault by the Zukariaans on their former allies. So taken aback, in fact, that as the Zukariaan guards ran to apprehend the Danterians and the Danterians reached for their sidearms, he dove behind his won chair to take cover, as his two bodyguards moved quickly and efficiently into position. The one still with a gun in his ankle holster took up a crouching position, ready to draw and fire in one smooth motion, while the other physically shielded Mitas with his body.
Only once the immediate danger subsided did the three men return to their positions, at which point Mitas offered a statement of "Perhaps we should adjourn for the day. I'm sure events in Danteri over the next twenty-four hours will make interesting enough material for our discussion tomorrow morning."
*
The ten CEF commandoes that had been withdrawn to the island base were by now back in Danteri, readying themselves for a nighttime smash and grab. The Harakian military had managed to corner the hostage-taking bandits and trap them in their camp, but were unable to stage a frontal assault or bombardment for fear of the hostages' lives. As day ground on into evening and night, the two sides faced off against each other: Two full batallions of Harakian troops, drawn from the 2nd Armoured Brigade and all the deployed infantry brigades, stood pitted against 800 bandit soldiers - Poorly trained and equipped soldiers, facing an opponent with superior numbers, training, equipment, and support.
However, the forces Haraki was deploying were not those that could count on the numbers or support. The group of elite troops, outnumbered eighty to one, would insert into the camp, already reconnoitred by satellites and high-flying recon planes, as quickly and stealthily as possible secure all the hostages and extract them, preferably with no noisy gunfire and no drawn attention. Once all the hostages were taken out, the other troops could wait until daybreak, when air cover could fly again, and attack at dawn.
With only ten men to work with, the CEF men had to determine a plan to safely extract the hostages or, if all else failed, secure their position so they would not be summarily executed once the frontal assault came - and it would come before it was scheduled to, if the CEF called for it.
Because stealth was of the essence, the plan they came up with had to involve silenced weaponry and infiltration techniques. The CEF split up into four teams: 1st Element, composed of three men with silenced submachine guns, would be the ones to actually enter the building and secure the hostages. 2nd Element would be their backup, three men with silenced carbines to secure the outside of the building and act as a second entry team if required. 3rd Element was fire support, armed with the only unsilenced weapons of the whole lot: Although both men in it also had silenced pistols to fall back on, their primary weapons were a light machine gun and an unsilenced assault rifle with box magazines. These two were to provide suppressing fire from high ground should cover be blown.
The last two men were deployed as Sniper Team. One was the team sniper, outfitted with a silenced sniper rifle. He was the best man in the group at infiltration and hiding, and had found a perfect overlook spot from which he could watch the entire play of the assault and take out any credible threats from nearly a kilometre away with a silenced rifle. The secondary member of the team was armed with a silenced carbine and provided support for the sniper. Deployed near him, also concealed, he too watched the events transpire from afar and provided long range silenced sniping, although he was also on the lookout for any men approaching them and was armed and ready to take them out or at least provide cover for the sniper team to escape to relative safety.
They were ready to go come nightfall. The two support teams would get in place first, then the six assaulters would move in, using as quiet methods as possible of disabling any sentries. They would go by the most secluded path to the hostages, enter the building, and extract them back to safety. Should they be unable to extract the hostages due to a firefight and the ensuing danger to them, they would secure the perimeter and call for the Harakian attack, at which point armour, APCs, military jeeps, naval support, artillery support, and an infantry assault would all converge on the bandit camp. They knew what they were doing, and although it was dangerous, they were the best at it.
"The delegation of 23Eris approves of the two Danteri solution, provided that the representatives of our Danteri allies also consent." Chilkevich stated.
"I also ask that the leaders of the Loyalist faction that you capture Lieutenant, be held for possible trial in an international court for war crimes."

Seriously, don't spam this topic.
The bandit camp was easily infiltrated. In fact, other than a single young bandit who chose the wrong route to the latrines, the commandos didn't encounter a single enemy. They reached the prison building without incident, but encountered a problem within.
There were about fifty civilian prisoners, plus the Haraki prisoners... plus around thirty bandits. The bandits were easily killed as they desperatly tried to get their guns and pull their pants up, but... one of them managed to scream an alarm.
At that point, around eighty bandits tried to rush the prison building. However, they were poorly trained, poorly equipped and extremely poorly organized. As such, they were all easily eliminated, most before they even fired their guns once.
After that, the Haraki commandos easily escaped in the chaos, taking the prisoners with them. However, the treatment that the prisoners, both civilian and Haraki, had recieved was appaling - most had been tortured and abused, and the activities that their guards had been engaged in when the commandos stormed in left no doubts about why the civilian prisoners had been taken... as for the Haraki prisoners, they had been abused by their captors, but were all alive, although one looked likely to require medical care.
- After the lightning raid, the bandit camp was easily annihilated. Haraki casualtied are believed to be extremely light, as many of the bandits surrendered. However, considering the treatment of their prisoners, many are likely to be guilty of severe crimes.
The majority of Loyalist forces have simply started taking orders from their new Zukariaan masters, however, a few seem to be resisting... they've "taken to the hills", but appear to be more interested in evading capture than in resisting the Zukariaans... likely, the majority of these men are simply war criminals who are well aware of the likely fate they would suffer if they were ever captured...
The religious rebels have attacked and seized a Loyalist arsenal in the hinterland. Apparently, the Loyalist guards went over to the religious rebels rather than fight, even though the arsenal was located in a heavily defended fort, with a garrisson of two hundred and fifty soldiers.
At this point, the religious rebels have seized tens of thousands of small arms, thousands of mortars and heavy machineguns, plus hundred of pieces of field-artillery and dozens of Armoured Fighting Vehicles. As such, they're now a force to be reckoned with...
As of yet, their leader hasn't issued many statements, and those he has issued are mostly hate-filled calls for the populace to "rise up" and kill members of the muslim minority... as well as members of the "corrupt secular governemnts" as of yet, he hasn't targeted any rebel units yet, but that is likely to change.
The rebels are massing troops along the truce line, and appear to be contemplating taking advantage of the chaos in Loyalist territory to gain some more territory...

Re: Recent Troop Movements
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Colonel, these troop movements that you have observed are purely defensive in nature. Our enemies might attack us at any moment, and so we have moved up soldiers to oppose a possible sneak attack. All is well - we do not want a renewal of hostilities!
The commandoes had pulled their job off nearly perfectly. The two assault teams had encountered one young bandit who was taken out with a knife attack. As tired as he was, they were easily able to sneak up on him. By the time they reached the prison building, they were still undiscovered, and although the assaulters were outnumbered five to one by the guards inside, the shock factor of six men with covered faces and silenced weapons entering the building was enough to get rid of most of them.
The shouted alarm caused complications, as bandits started rushing from two nearby barracks buildings, rallied by one man from each building who seemed to be a leader. The CEF managed to catch them out in the open, though, and the sniper team removed the two leaders quickly - The first with a high-velocity 7.62 mm round to the back of the head, the second with two to the chest. With their leadership removed, the bandits seemed confused as they rushed towards the prion building. With six men inside precision firing from the windows, the front rank died quickly. And as the bandits swelled to their most impressive size, nearly sixty men not counting casualties, came the CEF's biggest advantage: 3 Element. The gunner opened fire with his machine gun, ripping into the mob of angry, sleepy bandits, and the supporter pulled a grenade launcher from his back and fired several high explosive rounds before switching to his support rifle.
By the time the ten CEF men were finished their grisly work, there was not a single bandit left alive in that end of the camp. Over a hundred men had been killed, and the CEF, firing from long range, cover, and high ground, had not even taken a single hit. One civilian was killed when trying to look out a window to see what was happening and a lucky bandit's shot took off his head. However, the CEF had managed their job perfectly. As soon as the area around was clear, all ten extracted with the fifty hostages. When two kilometres clear, they radioed in their success, and the artillery began to bombard the bandit camp. The CEF and hostages were picked up ten minutes later by an armoured convoy.
-The Harakian troops will wait until it's light - Seven or eight hours after the smash and grab. During that time, they will naval and artillery strike key targets - communication stations, barracks buildings, command posts, armoured vehicles, fuel/ammunition dump - Anything that will demoralize and disorganize the bandits. Come daylight, they will attack with heavy armour, APCs, and mechanized/motorized infantry, as well as air strikes and more artillery/naval support.
Following the increadible Haraki raid (and a few hours of air strikes...) the bandits have surrendered in a panic (as I said before). They appear to be unused to fighting an enemy that can fight back, and also very disorganized. At this point however, the only question is what will be done with them...(since they were abusing their prisoners)
The religious rebels have struck again, this time attacking a force from the rebel army numbering about 1,250 men. The rebel force apparently surrendered, and is now fighting alongside the religious rebels, who appear intent on killing every single member of the muslim minority that they can find.
- Aproximately 20 of the rebel soldiers were killed, along with about 15 of the religious rebels, before the rebel officers ordered their men to surrender... and to switch sides.
-The religious rebels have now killed about 8,000 civilians for not being christians. The Loyalists are too busy with the Zukariaan coup and the Zukariaans with the Loyalists who are still on the run, for anything to be done about them... or so it seems.

Montegrande
23-04-2006, 01:19
In the darkest hours of night, a tiny company of twenty or thirty soldiers with olive green uniforms was moving from the shore to the territory controlled by the rebels. The chaos created by the outburst of religious rebellion and the inactivity of the loyalist faction made possible for them to reach without great troubles the rebel lines. However, the pair of big and heavy metal containers they carried slowed the movement of the column of proud caribbean men.
When they were seen by the rebel troops, the one who seemed in charge of the soldiers, a fourty years old athletic, bearded man, waved a white flag in signal of peace and yelled to the rebel soldiers, who feared a suicidal attack of the religious rebels:
"Hello, comrades. My name is Commander Arturo Moncada, and we come here from the Socialist Community of Montegrande to help you to organise the territories you control and end once and for all the suffering of Danteri´s people. The cease of fire must be mantained unless the loyalist forces break it, which seems unlikely to happen by now, but the religious rebels and the diseases are perils that can destroy the posibilities of a true revolutionary government in Danteri. For now, we want to see rebel leadership. Also, we carry ten medical doctors and two big containers with antibiotics as a little cooperation for the health of rebel territories, that could be increased after conversations with your leaders..."

Gwazzaria has proposed the following map as a beginning point for the resolution of borders, once internal affairs are suitably settled.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v137/Gwazz/danteriproposed.jpg
Gwazzaria has also proposed a wide (dozens of kilometers) demilitarized zone along the border, encompassing the city of Dreil. They have suggested that a joint Haraki-Bertling-Gwazzarian group enforce said DMZ.

Peace Conference, Gwazzaria
"The government of 23Eris has no objections to the borders presented by Gwazzaria, or to the suggestion of a Demilitarized Zone. We urge bothe the People's Committee representatives, and the Zukariaan delegation to approve these borders and finalize a peace."

Montegrande

Port of San Arturo, Montegrande
The main port of Montegrande is filled with activity. Gigantic metal containers are being loaded to the ships, not only sailors and soldiers are saying goodbye to their families, It seems that doctors, nurses, dentists and health auxiliaries will travel too. The destiny is the nation of Danteri, and they all think they could help to make Danteri a socially progressive nation like Montegrande....
Meanwhile, in the people´s council building of the city, the Comisar of Foreign Affairs, Salvador Moncada is talking with the man who seems in charge of the expedition:
"Admiral González, your mission is to transport the convoy to Danteri´s shores. After that instant the expedition is under Commander Moncada´s orders. Remember you carry 1500 soldiers of the finest infantry of Montegrande, 300 medical doctors, 600 another health personnel, and supplies, mostly of them antibiotics and vaccines. I hope you will succeed in your mission, and bring Danteri´s people a new hope in a government who really cares of the citizens. Now I wish you set sail as soon as possible"
The Admiral nodded and after saying goodbye, left the building in direction of the havens. The Montegrande´s aid was really coming to the Danteri´s rebels, as talked with the rebel authorities...
OOC: I send messages to Danteri´s Rebels and promissed such expedition....
Elements of Danteri Army Special Operations units have conducted a series of hit-and-run attacks against Kraven units - they're sniping, setting IEDs, etc. with the intent of causing a few casualties. They are also doing their level best to avoid an open fight.
(They aren't specifically targeting Zukariaans, but even civilian resource-harvestng crews are fair game...)
New-Lexington
24-04-2006, 16:07
New-Lexington would love to have a small chunk of land near Westfall and to the south, where Oomplian and New-Lexington forces still occupy. We will also like to establish a DMZ along those borders. With the situation cooling down in New-Lexington we feel ready to deploy more forces back to Danteri.
The Loyalists have decided to fight the Kraven attempts to round up their population for forced labor with a frightening tactic - when people were herded into a camp to be processed, the Loyalist guerrillas deployed ten kilo-grams of Sarin gas against the camp, killing something like 100 thousand civilians and an unknown number of Kraven aligned guards.
The Religious Rebels have responded to the Zukariaan attempts to "hunt them down" by attacking the Zukariaans head-long. All 200,000 of the religious rebel fighters have taken part in this attack against the Zukariaan force.
While this operation is effectively without tactical thought, the simple fact is that the vast majority of these 200,000 men (who outnumber the Zukariaans) are total fanatics who will fight to the death, and will not hesitate to sacrifice their lives if in doing so they can hurt the enemy. This represents effectively a 200,000 man suicide rush - they just hurl themselves at the Zukariaans, intent on doing as much damage as they can before they are destroyed.
In this battle, no tactics are off limits - there have been massive numbers of suicide bombings, some with children as young as eight. This is a horror, and is causing even more damage to an already war-ravaged nation.
Following the Zukariaan takeover, massive numbers of Danteri civilians in Loyalist-held Danteri are fleeing to the rebel-held areas - this looks like a response to the involvement of The Kraven Corporation, not to any hate for the Zukariaans... Kraven Corp does have a bit of a reputation...
Of course, most of these civilians can easily be rounded up or shot - what exactly you want to do is up to you, however.
Rebel held Danteri, 23Eris Forces
As soon as Colonel Papadakis' helicopter touched down at the helipad outside his HQ he was swarmed with aides offering updates and the latest intel on the goings on in loyalist danteri. Papadakis was horrified. The Kraven Corporation, whoever the hell they were had toppled Zukariaa and was now using Zukariaan troops to seize absolute control in Loyalist Danteri. Papadakis wondered how New-Lexington would respond to one of its allies trying to seize absolute control of the Loyalist territory.
Returning to his office, Papadakis ordered all troops to full alert and set up a rotating schedule of airflights along the border. They would monitor only, intervening only to protect any civilians who crossed over to rebel held areas. Papadakis did not wish to break the ceasefire, but he would repel any incursions by force if necessary.
At his desk, Papadakis worked up a telegram to be sent to the New-Lexington commanders in Danteri.

Re: Loyalist Danteri
I send this letter to you in response to the massive influx of refugees from Loyalist held areas of Danteri. Your allies, the Zukariaans have seized control over much of the Loyalist held areas and have begun systematically rounding up the local populace for goddess knows what purpose. Refugees tell horror stories of killings and worse in the Loyalist areas. Rumor has it that Zukariaa has come under the control of something called, the Kraven Corporation, though our intel on this matter is sketchy at best. We urge you to place your foces on alert and to protect the civilian populace in your care from this new Zukariaan threat.
We would also urge you to, in the absence of any Loyalist government, shift your allegiance to our allies, the Peoples' Committee, before Zukariaa moves against your forces. Together, perhaps we can defend Danteri against this new threat, and help to rebuild this shattered nation.

After a long trip, the Montegrande´s humanitarian mission arrived in Danteri´s territory. More than two thousand men and women left the ships. They were doctors, health personel and 1500 Montegrande´s soldiers, all of them wearing olive green uniforms. They were received by Arturo Moncada and the little Montegrandite destackment that arrived days before...
When they started to unload the supplies they had carried, Commander Moncada wrote a message for the rebel leadership:
Telegram for the People´s Commitee in Revolution of Danteri
The little aid mission from Montegrande has arrived. We have in mind building 5 hospitals. 1000 of my soldiers will defend the placement of that hospitals. The lasting 500 soldiers are prepared commandoes who will wait instructions for any mission required. I hope I can convince the government to bring a real army here if the war restarts. Long live the revolution.

In the regular session of the central Commitee of Montegrande´s Communist Party, the Comisar of Foreign Affairs, Salvador Guevara, speaks enraged:
"The informations of human rights violations in Zukariaan controlled Danteri are the proof that Montegrande´s help to that opressed nation has to increase dramaticly, not only in humanitarian aid, but also in an army to protect the revolutionary government. The imperialism has to be erased once and for all, and we know that violent revolution is the most affordable way to do it fastly. "

We will also provide amnesty to loyalist leaders in our Danteri area territory or in New-Lexington itself. Also a base of humanitarian aid has been set up in the town of Westfall. Here is a proposal of the boundaries.
http://s75.photobucket.com/albums/i307/New-Lexington/?action=view¤t=danteripropsoal.jpg
The Loyalists (what are left of them, at any rate...) and the Rebels have siged a peace treaty. As such, they are now united in open opposition to Zukariaa and the Kraven Corporation.
At this point, the entire Rebel military along the fronteir is advancing with tanks and air support, targeting Zukariaan and Kraven troop concentrations and defensive positions. It appears as though this war just got hot again...
As for the religious rebels, they're still off on their own, although every local-Danteri unit they've encountered has gone over to their side, rather than fight them in the name of Zukariaa (which has, by the way, been declared "unholy" by their leader...)
At this point, the Religious Rebels are actively fighting the Zukariaan and Kraven occupation forced. So far, they have sustained eight thousand cassualties, inflicting a smaller and unknown number of cassualties upon the Zukariaans and the Kravens in return.
As for the civilians unlucky enough to be caught in the middle, the Loyalists, Rebels and Religious Rebels have all displayed a startling disregard for human life, killing indescriminantly for no greater reason than to ensure that Kraven doesn't meet its quotas for slave laborers.
The Combined Danteri HQ has initiated an opperation they are calling "Operation Dawn"... it is nothing less than the total resumption of hostilities with Kraven and Zukariaa. (It appears that the Rebels have come into the fighting in order to get the Loyalists to agree to complete Rebel control once the fighting is over...)
So far, the Danteri attackers haven't used any WMDs... yet...
The first troops to encounter the invading Rebel army were small forces of Loyalist conscripts who had been stationed all along the border, in 100 man units, in order to delay the attackers in order to ensure the inner defenders more time to mobilize.
Every single one of these conscripts, in all two hundred units along the border, went over to the rebel side. For the first time since the war began, all of Danteri is free, and acting as one... while it is still to fight a foreign foe, at least all of the Danteri are on the same side.
- Around 20,000 Loyalist conscripts at the border have gone over to the Rebel side when the Rebel tanks rolled up.
- The Loyalist Government-in-hiding has requested that Oompli, New-Lexington and its other allies act alongside the new Rebel-Loyalist alliance to kick Kraven out of Western Danteri. Once again, they have repeated that the Zukariaan people are not their enemies, but that they have no desire to be slaves to the Kravenites.
- Civilians continue to flee Western Danteri. Hundreds of thousands of new refugees have fled to the Haraki Safe-Zones at this point, hundreds of thousands more to the Rebel, 23Erisian and Solorielan held zones. Atrocities against the refugees are apparently not as common as were initially reported - at the start of the operation, something like 5,000 refugees were killed by soldiers who were so scared about having to face Kraven that they apparently thought that anything that was moving had to be an enemy, and so fired.
- Religious Rebels: The Religious Rebels have continued their "suicidal banzai charge" attack against the Zukariaans. Around 40,000 of their people are dead at this point, and Zukariaan casualties are supposed to be low.
The rebel tanks, APCs and IFVs were almost all high-quality foreign made pieces given to them by their allies. They rolled forward, through the mud, crushing the rusted barbed wire that had marked the border of Loyalist and Rebel Danteri.
Now, it still marked a border, but this time it was another border, that of a Danteri ruled by its people, by a free process, and Zukariaan-held, Kraven-held Danteri, where freedom was non-existant, and tyranny constant. The soldiers in the rebel army were young, but they had fought in the last war. Most of them had lost fathers or brothers in the fighting already, but they were still prepared to fight for the beautiful ideal that they had suddenly been given as a goal. They would fight for that free Danteri, would even die for it in many cases...
This war had already claimed, counting Rebel, Loyalist and civilian dead, something like thirty million Danteri citizens. Amoung those dead were almost the entierty of those Danteri citizens who would fit into the traditional category of military age. Of course, that hadn't stopped them from fighting... when they ran out of men from the age of eighteen to forty, they started taking them as young as ten, both sides, and even using women as soldiers, something that had never happened before in all of Danteri's long and war-filled history.
About 40% of the soldiers now taking part in this attack were women. About 30% of the total were boys under the age of twelve. Danteri had lost so many people... but, Danteri still had enough strength to launch another attack, to gamble away yet more lives.
The Rebel army advanced. They would fight, many of them would die, and the war would go on.
Bertling

The Bertlingian delegate, Sir Gustaf Meyer-Hoff, had not spoken before. His instructions had been clear, Bertling were to remain quiet an let the warring parties work out their differences. For a while, it had seemed an impossible task. And now, when the Rebels and the Loyalists had united, he almost wished they hadn't... Zukariaa had been a Kraven-owned puppet!
He had immediately relayed this information to the King, and he had recieved a swift reply. Bertling were to renew its offer of support for the Lawful Government of Danteri, on the condition that no WMDs of any kind were deployed, unless as an act of self defence. If no such guarantee could be given, Bertlingian forces would be withdrawn from the theatre immediately.
23Eris Headquarters, Outside Freiburg, Danteri
Papadakis threw down the report and moved his hands to his temples. He had developed a terrible headache over the past few days. The rebels had assured him their movements were defensive only, then they attacked the Zukariaans. Now he had a dispatch from his government forbidding him from intervening on behalf of the rebels. Cursing silently, he began to write up the appropriate orders and sent them encoded to hsi commanders in the field.

The major looked at his radio officer in shock. "Repeat that again soldier." He asked slowly.
"From Colonel Papadakis sir. Cease any and all offensive coordination with Danteri military forces effective immediately. No military action is to be taken save in self-defense or to protect civilians under your care. Solorien 3rd Armored will reinforce position."
"I'll be goddess damned... pass the order to our artillery. Cease-fire immediately."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
1001 Mechanized Brigade, First Mechanized Division, Southhaven, Danteri
The hulking shapes of the IFV and AFV's that had dominated the defensive line roared into life. Behind them, a dozen T-80 tanks that formed the heavy punch of the 1001st kicked on their engines as well. Suprisingly, the vehicles moved not forwards, but retreated. The withdraw covered by heavy over flights of aircraft, the few tanks of the 1st mech, and by a few platoons of infantry acting as rear guard.
Within an hour, the entire division was moving at full speed for the southern coast of Southhaven where a new defensive line would be formed around the 23Eris port of operations in that sector. As they retreated, soldiers informed civilians that those who sought protection behind Erisian lines would be welcome once again, though many seemed angered by the withdrawl of their Erisian allies.
Back along the lines, many soldiers and commanders who despised the orders to retreat had 'forgotten' large caches of supplies and heavy weaponry. In a few cases, AFV's that were partly disassembled were left behind, though in truth a few minutes work could have them running again. These items had been left for their Rebel allies to 'discover', though many soldiers had informed their counterparts of the location of a majority of the weapons and suplies left behind. 23Eris may have been retreating from the front lines, but they were still aiding while they could.

Re: Neutrality
23Eris forces have declared their neutrality in the renewed conflict between the Danteri people and your nation. While we condemn actions taken within your territory, we will not intervene militarily unless attacked. We have re-established the safe zone around Freiburg as well as set up a secondary zone in southern Southhaven. We ask that you respect these boundaries, as well as that of the Solorien held territory, and recognize our efforts to protect the civilian populace from harm. Violations of our neutrality will not go unanswered.

Cargo planes carrying medical supplies and foodstuffs continue to operate to both Freiburg and Southhaven. Now however a new item has been added, secret supplies of armor-piercing depleted uranium ammunition in 5.56x45mm (lighter weight and higher velocity than standard size rounds) which work with the Erisian supplied AK-74 rifles, which are also the 23Eris standard issue infantry weapon. These bullets are being carried in falsely marked cargo and being distributed to Danteri troops as soon as they arrive.
Supplies of the depleted uranium bullets are scarce though they may pick up as supply runs increase in frequency.

From: Major Graham Murphy, Minister of War <madmajmurph@miniwar.co.gw>
Gwazzaria, after a great deal of consideration, has thrown in its support for the native Danteri forces.
While in favor of peace, it will not support an invading force that seeks simply to exploit and conquer. Zukariaa, as well, is no longer recognized as being controlled by any legitimate Zukariaan government.
We will seek to work in conjuction with Bertling forces, and shall continue to supply aid to Danteri citizens. If forced into combat with indigenous Danteri forces, for some unknowable reason, non-lethal measures will be taken if possible.
May peace come to Danteri, and defeat to its invaders.

Southhaven, Danteri
At night, a pair of small, black, rubber rafts zipped sliently through the surf and beached themselves on the sandy shoreline of Southhaven. They were a few miles from the newly established 23Eris' defensive line, but the men took no chances. The rafts were covered quickly and silently and tracks were wiped clean. Supplies were rapidly uncovered and checked before the men set off from the landing site.
A day after their arrival, and having successfully managed to avoid detection, the squad of soldiers came across a column of civillians moving slowly southwards towards the Erisian Safe Zone. The soldiers quickly flanked the civillians and opened fire, cutting the refugees to pieces and sparing none, not even the women or children. In one of the more horrifying incidents, a six year old girl, still alive, was shot and killed at close range by a single bullet to the forehead. The poor refugees died less than two miles from safety in the Erisian zone.
That evening, a series of rocket attacks occured on a small section of the Erisian line before the attackers melted away into the darkness.
OOC: Danteri, I apologize if my killing a few refugees bothers or annoys you, I'm not trying to jump in on your storyline, just seemed like the logical place to put this section of the storyline Eris and I are working on.

New-Lexingon United Press Reports
It was two in the morning when the NLSP (New-Lexington Special Police) A-team boarded a convoy of three black vans on a secret base on the outskirts of Westfall. They all knew their mission, what they had to each do. At around 2:30 AM they reached their target house. The compund of the Danteri-government in exile. From that point details are sketchy, but it is beleived that each Danteri-in exile government member was arrested, handcuffed, shackled blindfolded and carried of to a secret location. This has yet to be confirmed by other members of the Danteri government, not in exile.
The attack by the Danteri Army continue against the Zukariaans and their allies from Kraven. At this point, cassualties are rising, but the Danteris are advancing.
As for the New-Lexington sneak attack, they succeded in seizing eight members of the Danteri Underground, one of whom was a senior leader of the reistance.
The religious rebels have also continued their attacks.

"By the goddess, someone slaughtered these people Lieutenant. They never had a chance." said one private, staring at the bodies with a look of shock on his face.
"Yeah, this is one f'd up country, thats for sure. Look at this poor kid, looks like she survived the initial attack, so they popped her once in the head to finish her off. Bastards," replied the Lieutanant. "Get some photographs and police up some of those rounds, the major will want to know who we have roaming around out here. Corporal, get HQ on the line, we'll need some bodybags and a few trucks."
"I don't recognize these Lieutenant," said the same private, holding up one of the discarded rounds.
"Not something we supplied," said the Lieutenant, thinking. "Could be another supplier, goddess knows this is a haven for people bringing in weapons."

Intel Office, 23Eris HQ, Southhaven, Danteri
"Judging by the fragments left over from the rocket attack and the rounds we found in the ambush on the civilians, our best conclusion is an attack by Zukariaan troops," stated the Intel Officer.
"Can you be sure?" asked the Major.
"No sir, but these have got to be Zukariaan supplied arms. Since the Zukariaans are now warring with the Danteri, I can't believe they're supplying them with weapons."
"Why the hell would the Zukes attack us? We're neutral!"
"We are covertly supplying the Danteri with weapons. And you saw my report on the number of arms and equipment that went missing after we pulled out. The Zukes might have learned of this as well."
"True, but this, this is insanity. They can't want us to get involved directly, why provoke us?"
"No idea sir, but we have to report our findings to the Colonel."
"Do it, and pray it doesn't mean war."

"The attck on our naval yard was one via submarine launched cruise missile. It's a relatively standard design, could have been made anywhere, no way to trace it with any certainty." Admiral Weber reported.
"The tanker?" asked the Prime Minister.
"We'd have to send someone down to examine the wreckage and we don't have the rescue sub capability to do so. If you wish, we'd have to hire a foreign firm to examine the ship for us. What we did find was the rounds that were used to kill the survivors. They appear to be of Zukariaan origin."
"What?" asked the Prime Minister, shocked.
"It makes sense ma'am, when you consider the timing. We withdrew from the lines in Danteri but supplied the Danteri troops with weapons, and an operational carrier which we could deploy to that front greatly enhances our naval capability. Zukariaa delays the launch of that ship, ensuring itself of naval supremacy for several months. Then to try and cripple our involvement they hit a tanker, knowing they already damaged or destroyed a major fuel installation."
"And then the attacks in Danteri itself," finished the Prime Minister, slamming her palm down on the table. "Goddess damn them! Can we prove it?"
"No Ma'am, not with certainty, but the press is going to hear about this, you know we have leaks all over the government."
"How true."
"And as soon as the public hears, they'll be calling for blood."
"Damn, before that happens, we need to make a statement."

Public Announcement, Prime Minister Hekatos, 23Eris
Today I have ordered all branches of the military of The Free Lands of the 23rd Eris to full alert. We believe we have discovered the culprit behind these attacks on our land and people. These craven assaults appear to indeed have been the work of a Kraven people, the Kraven State of Zukariaa.
Today I call upon Zukariaa to answer these charges and to explain these unprovoked attacks on our nation. Failure to respond or an unsatisfactory respone can only be seen as an admission of guilt in this affair.
Whatever the outcome, we will once more stand triumphant in the face of oppression. Good-bye, and goddess bless.
OOC: Reformed Sparta, of course I'm not annoyed - other nations have been killing civilians for god knows how long... of course, if it had been a rebel patrol, no matter how small, that would have been another matter.

They came forward in a single undisciplined wave of humanity, firing wildly with weapons that varried from bolt-action hunting rifles to light machineguns to grenade launchers to sidearms... some carried no gun, merely a sharp stick which they appeared to intend to use as a spear.
They came forward, falling in great numbers all the while, and hurled themselves against the Zukariaans. It was a horror - some of the mad men charging against the Zukariaans were no older than eight, mere boys... but, their prophet took anyone who could walk for his army.
- The religious rebels have launched a major offensive against the Zukariaans in the north of the area they currently hold. Zukariaan casualties are believed to be light, but the religious rebels have lost something like 20,000 men.
The Unified Danteri Command has requested that the non-Kraven allies of the Loyalists come over to their side and help drive out the Zukariaans and the Kraven.
Soloriel has also been petitioned with a request for aid.

Re: Bertlingian Support
Sirs,
While we deem your fight against a foreign occupant a just fight, we will not commit unconditionally to this fight. We ask you to guarantee that you will not deploy weapons of mass destruction in this conflict, unless as a response to an attack with weapons of mass destruction. If you fail to offer such a guaranty, we will withdraw from this theatre entirely.
Your last foolish escapades nearly wiped out your nation, do not let such folly ruin your hopes for a free and peaceful Danteri.
"What the fuck is wrong with this country, that's what I want to know," Locke sighed, conversing on a video phone conversation with the Prime Minister. "I hear the peace talks broke down."
Jaime Wolfe nodded. "The Zukariaans arrested the Loyalists, then proclaimed themselves a puppet state of the Kraven Corporation and everyone withdrew from the peace talks and started fighting again. We got Mitas out unharmed."
Locke sighed and ran his hands through his hair exasperatedly. "So I guess we're back to protecting the civilians from the evil enemies?"
"Yeah, except this time the Danterians are united against a common foe: Kraven. Also, one of our satellites picked up some important 23Erisian activity and chatter. A column of refugees in Southhaven got massacred by an unknown force. Might be a new player, might just be bandits."
"I'm going to assume the worst until I hear better, sir."
"With a conflict like this," Wolfe replied, "that's unfortunately the most logical choice. Nukes? Gas attacks? This is like our worst nightmare."
Locke simply nodded, and so Wolfe continued.
"At least now you have some more forces. An extra brigade of tanks, and some more naval forces, especially with the convoy escorts. A few more escort carriers and cruisers can't hurt."
"No, sir."
"I'm going to see if I can get you some more forces in there."
"Yes, sir."
"See you, Locke."
"Thank you, sir."
The screen switched off. Locke sighed. It was true, he was better prepared this time. But he just wished he could get a carrier-cruiser or battlecarrier in. No good reason except he liked them.
His next order of business was to order a complete sweep of the area around the safe zones. It was the largest Harakian military operation since the original landing, and would involve the entire armoured brigade and several companies from each of the infantry. They were sweeping for bandits or soldiers from any faction to ensure no further attacks. With Gwazzarian and Bertlingian forces guarding the perimeter of the Haraki-controlled area, they could spare more troops for the sweep, which would also involve most of Haraki's area naval forces and air support, as well as satellite imagery. It was a large-scale operation, designed to save lives.
The ten CEF commandoes are 'on call', so to speak.

Montegrande´s reinforcements arrival
The army that communist government of Montegrande promised to the danterian forces had finally arrived. In the piers, a little group of soldiers leaded by Commander Moncada raised their left fists in salute of the rebel supporting army.
They carried not only the soldiers and the promised weapons, but hundreds of trucks and vehicles for rapid troop transportation. 3000 pieces of heavy artillery, 1000 SAM sites and lots of AK-47s and ammunitions were delivered to the rebel troops.
Montagrande was preparing for entering the cruel war and help the danterians to drive away the Kraven Corporation...
OOC: Zukariaa - the nation of Reformed Sparta has been attacking us and using weapons of similar design to those used by your troops, trying to drive my nation and yours into war. Their plan is basically to make me fully commit my armed forces into Danteri and leave my nation vulnerable at home.
IC:
"We've recieved the Zukariaan response Ma'am. They deny attacking us." Foreign minister Chilkevich reported, having returned from the failed peace conference.
"Of course they have. They wouldn't just admit it now would they?" Replied the Prime Minister. "I want the 1st Armored Division to sail for Danteri. Disembark them in Southhaven. As long as Soloriel occpies most of the North of the country, nobody can touch our positions near Freiburg. And get the 2nd Infantry Division ready to follow."
"Sounds like a good plan Ma'am." replied General Thomson. "I'd also like one of our new 'weather' satellites to move to an orbit over Danteri. We could use the intel."
"I'll approve the move. Draft an order for the ESA to shift the position of the satellite to where you need it, and I'll approve the order." Prime Minster Hekatos stated in a rather foul mood. "And tell Admiral Weber I don't want to lose a single transport ship on the crossing."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-The Erisian First Armored Division is deploying to the Erisian safe zone in Danteri.
-23Eris is also deploying the 1st Tactical Army Air Wing, consiting of KA-50N attack choppers and Mi-8 Hip Attack variant.
-The government of 23Eris offers the Danteri forces 14 F-4E ground attack craft which are being phased out of the Erisian airforce. They are all old, but operable. The government of 23Eris is simply asking for rights to lease and maintain an airbase in Southhaven (in the currently occupied 23Eris area) for the next 15 years.
OOC: Even if the Danteri decline that offer, the Erisians will still give them the planes if the Danteri want them.

OOC: It's true Zukariaa, I have been trying to set you up for my own selfish reasons. Though of course, not posessing the same technology as your nation, the 'evidence' I left behind fingering you as the culprit isn't a perfect match for those in the know.
IC: The squad of special ops troops from Reformed Sparta camped several miles away from the 23Eris lines. The men were highly trained veterans and knew how to be careful, though nothing is perfect. During the night, the sounds of an approaching patrol drove off the Spartans who abandoned their small camp in a hurry. They tried to hide or gather up nearly all they could, but of course, a few small items were unfortunately left behind.
OOC: Eris, check your TGs
The attack continues as hundreds of thousands of Danteri soldiers perish... it looks as though this campaign will claim many lives before it is through...
- Casualties during this campaign for all Danteri factions now stand at 104,000 lost.
The religious rebels have launched a campaign of suicide bombings, IEDs and so on against Zukariaan targets behind the lines, while massive assaults against Zukariaan troop formations continue.
Operation Unforseen: The Danteri have initiated a new operation - they're launching MiGs and Zukariaan fighter-bombers from their carrier (in the Oompli-New Lexington fleet) to attack troop concentrations in Zukariaan territory.
The much feared Rebel Commandos appear to be moving into Zukariaan territory - their numbers are unknown, but they're conducting a hit-and-run campaign, sliting throats and so on while trying to cause as much damage as possible - without, of course, being detected. They are fighting a guerrila war... and they are very good at it.
Erisian Territory, Southhaven, Danteri
Shortly after the arrival of the 1st Armored Division and its deployment in Erisian held territory, a patrol of Erisian troops stumbled across an abandoned campsight a few miles from their positions. The troops fanned out and approached by teams, one covering as the other advanced, until they secured the area.
Within minutes of reporting the find to headquarters, an Mi-8 Hip carrying another squad of troops escorted by a pair of KA-50Ns descended on the area. The second squad deployed and the two teams becan to scavange the area for information.
In less than an hour, the camp was dismantled and the gathered intelligence was flown back to base, while one squad remained, supported by a single helicopter as they attempted to track those who had abandoned the camp.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Danteri - The government of 23Eris has approved a $1 billion subsidy for your military efforts. Use the money wisely.
Also, crates of supplies; food, medical, and munitions have arrived in Southhaven via transport ship and are being distributed to the Danteri forces.
To accomodate the increased space necessary for the arriving units and supplies, the Erisians are expanding their defensive network and increasing patrols of surrounding areas. All patrols are a minimum 1 squad with AFV escort and helicopter support only a few minutes away.

Other News- New-Lexington has established a national cemetary on 500,000 acres of pasture outside of Lexington City, to honor all fallen heroes of the Danteri and Arlibastainain wars. All soldiers killed on active duty in wars are required to be barried here. There will be a tomb of an unknown soldier who was run over by a rebel tank, and his body too mutilated to be recognized. The name of the cemetery: Caughman National Cemetary

The Montegrande´s army is moving to the west to begin the operation called "Kill ´em all" (the imperialistic pigs, of course)but not too fast to mantain the order and morale of the troops. The communications are very easy because of the wave of patriotism all around Danteri that ended (temporarily at least) the internal hostilities in order to drive away the zukariaans and the troops have a very good supply line.
The morale is up and the Su-35s and Mig-31 are assuring a secure movement of the troops to the frontline. Montegrande´s troops are preparing to assume an active role in the war.

The Unified Danteri Army has continued pushing forward against the Zukariaans, however, they have recently suffered a massive series of military reverses as the Zukariaans have deployed their elite C.P. units. As such, Danteri is suffering... however, at this point, Freiburg has come into the full alliance, so stability is being maintained... somewhat.

The chancellor had spoken to the assembly a few hours ago, had spoken of horrors and death camps... and they had listened.
Now, a few hours later, the cabinet was meeting in the Executive Wing of the Administration Building...
The Defense Minister, the most junior of the ministers, spoke first:
"Well, my friends, we have a problem: our commitments to human rights make it so that we cannot just ignore these atrocities... but, our military is weak. We have too little funding, too few men... what are we going to do?" the Education Minister cleared his throat, before the chancellor nodded that he could speak. He stood, and spoke:
"You know as well as I do that the people would never stand for a full scale military deployment... we have to be careful - you never know when the Opposition could take over..." he shrugged, and sat again. The Minister of Defense nodded his agreement, and made a suggestion:
"You know, we could issue a statement decrying the Zukariaan atrocities... we could just say that they're been "naughty"... even if our words have no meaning, they would still show our disapproval..." he trailed off, seeming to be thinking of something far off... like the possibility that the Neue Neue Deutsch electorate would approve of increased military spending. The chancellor spoke then, for the first time,
"All right. We'll do that. Things like this made me wish we had the military power for a full-scale intervention, but... we don't, and so we will do what we can do. Issue that statement." he nodded again, then turned to his Finance Minister "Now," he continued, "just how are those trade agreements coming along?"
Neue Deutsch Ministry of Defense
In light of the unlawful continued intervention in Danteri being conducted by Zukariaa, we feel we have no option but to make an official statement of our disaproaval. Reformed Sparta
28-04-2006, 16:56
OOC: Posted with the permission of the lovely leader of 23Eris (she made me say that lovely bit) so this isn't godmoding, really!
IC: In the wee hours before dawn three squads of Spartan troops advanced on an Erisian weapons depot near Freiburg. They had so far managed to avoid detection since their near capture in Southhaven. After that incident they had been extracted and reinserted in the north to stir up trouble there as well.
The two dozen troops checked their weapons, all of which were modified to look like Zukariaan weapons. The troops wore Zukariaan military uniforms and carried no documents or items that could identify them as having come from Reformed Sparta.
The squadron leaders hurled grenades at the sleeping depot, two exploding by the barracks and ripping holes in the thin metal walls of the building, the others began to fire their weapons, cutting down the few unalert sentries that they could find. A single Erisian machinegun opened up on the Spartan troops, something of a suprise as the Spartans had thought they eliminated the machine gun emplacements in their first volley. Two Spartans were cut nearly in half by the acurate fire, revealing the depth of their mistake. A half dozen grenades made quick work of the would-be Erisian hero.
He had bought the Erisian's time though, and the remaining men in the barracks had awaken from their slumber and armed themselves. None was foolish enough to rush out into the waiting guns of the Spartans, rather they tipped over their beds to add protection to the thin walls and began firing out throuh the windows, doorway, and holes tore through the structure by the grenade attack.
The Spartans though weren't here to engage the Erisian forces in a drawn out firefight. Theirs was a smash and grab operation. While one squad kept the Erisians pinned down, another wired the communications tent and gasoline tanks with explosives. The third squad struck the armory, grabbing light anti-tank weapons, guns, and ammunition. As the Spartan's fell back, the sky was illuminated with the flames of the gasoline tanks erupting from the explosions. Another successful operation, and at a low cost as well. Only three Spartans killed and two wounded.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hours Later, the Zukariaan/Erisian border, Danteri
The Spartan troops, dressed now in Erisian uniforms took up positions along the border with the Zukariaans. They could see across the no-man's land seperating the two forces the outlines of Zukariaan men and equipment. The leader of the Spartan squads smiled as he gave the order to open fire.
Within seconds of his order, his men opened up a hail of fire on the Zukariaan positions, launching a dozen RPG and Anti-Tank missiles and emptying ammunition clips into Zukariaan positions before retreating again into areas behind the Erisian lines.
OOC: Zukariaa, my men were firing at you with Erisian equipment from areas near the Erisian lines, so it should appear that the Erisians fired on you.
The Unified Danteri Command has begun carrying out patrols of the lines with small units of elite Danteri Commandos. It appears that they are worried about Zukariaan infiltrators...
- Several units of Danteri Commandos have been sent behind the lines, to perform patrol missions with the intent of preventing infiltrations... they're great at stealth, good at fighting, and are looking for enemy scouts etc.

Neue Berlin, Neue Neue Deutschland, Ministry of Defense Building
The room was quie. It was also dark, a common enough feature in the architectural atrocity that the government had bought cheaply to house the new Ministry of Defense, but, the mood in this room was darker than the lighting alone would account for.
There were three men in the room: the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Police and the Chancellor. They were sitting around the table, bitterly considering just how much of a fool their leadership looked like when it spent hours in parliament loudly shouting insults at each other... it was a humiliation.
Finally, the Chancellor spoke: "You both know just how much I would like to tell the extreme liberals and the Conservative Democratic Party that they could go suck eggs, but, I can't. Doing so would alienate the left and right wings of our own coalition, and, we can't affoard that. As such, we simultaneously must not show the slightest sign of Imperialistic tendencies, yet simultaneously show ourselves to be strong, lest that alienate the electorate... in other words, we must walk the middle path, and that means... tell the Minister of Foreign Affairs that I want him to send Haraki a message. Tell him to say that, while we won't send troops, we will send humanitarian aid. Also, while he's at it... have him contact Soloriel. We need to know which way they'll jump before we go on with anything more impressive." the two Ministers nodded, showing their agreement, but he didn't nod back, rather he continued:
"Also, while we are sending humanitarian aid to the Haraki, we will of course not send any troops, but how about Second Company from the Guard? I know that they're hardly "real" soldiers - heaven knows we have none of those! But, they'll do for Military Police." he turned to the Minister of Defense, asking,
"We can spare them, can't we?" the Minister of Defense nodded, then replied,
"Yes, we can. Currently, First Company is plenty for the few ceremonial guards we need. Second Company is currently just sitting around, so we might as well send them over to Danteri. Only, I know I'll sound like a paranoid but I don't care, I just won't feel comforteble with half our army deployed overseas." the Chancellor looked at him with a raised eyebrow before asking,
"Just what do we need them to defend us against? Unlicensed sausage vendors? I think the police can handle that sort of thing. We have no real enemies, our resources aren't valuable enough to loot... what are you afraid of?" the Minister of Defence shrugged, and looked a little embaresed before replying,
"I don't know sir. I just feel worried about such things... I guess I'm a little more of a soldier than your average Guardsman." the Chancellor nodded, then turned to the Minister of Police, asking,
"Your men can cope with a few unlicensed sausage vendors, I hope?"

Greetings. We have seen the problems in Danteri, and would like to help with your commendable relief efforts. As such, with your permission, we would send some civilian relief supplies (medicine, food, water filters and so on), in addition, we would like to offer the services of our Second Company. These men aren't "real" soldiers, more like heavily armed and slightly better-trained police, but they can work as Military Police, and we can only hope you'll find a use for them. We await your reply.
OOC: The Second Company of the Neue Neue Deutschland Army is made up of 150 men, equipped with flak armour and so on, and armed with SMGs (MP5-A4s), and a few light support weapons (nothing heavier than an AT missile). They aren't as well trained as the average soldiers in most nation's armies, but they have quite a bit of experience with crowd control and police duties - they're used as extra riot police when they're in Neue Neue Deutschland. As such, they are also equipped with tasers, and know how to use them.
The bandit problem is becoming more managable as Haraki troops patrol around their Safe-Zones - it appears that most of the bandit groups have withdrawn from the area, although a few snipers are taking shots at your patrols.
A number of civilian refugee collumns have been raided by bandits outside of your current patrol area, and there appear to be more (albeit more nervous) bandits than there were a few weeks ago.
OOC: As for the bandits you captured during the raid you launched last week, what is being done with them?

The remaining Spartan soldiers, still disguised as the soldiers of 23Eris, began to make their way along the Zukariaan border towards Danteri lines. Their plan now was to attack Danteri soldiers and to sow mistrust between the Erisians and the Danteri forces.
Though they were well trained in their task, they had the disadvantage of not knowing the terrain as well as their Danteri counterparts and consequently moved slowly, cautiously behind the lines, looking for suitable targets of opportunity.

I thank you for the relief efforts you are providing. The humanitarian aid will be much appreciated and will help lighten the burden being placed on Harakian rleief agencies. Also, the Second Company is welcome to come and aid the Harakian troops defending the safe zones, but as with all foreign troops currently stationed in Harakian territory, I ask that your troops, rather than taking a direct role inside the cities, guard the perimeter and escort refugee columns into the safe zone cities. This is to avoid confusion or panic within the refugees groups, especially those that have become intimately familiar with the Harakian troops.
Thank you,

Refugee convoys carrying volunteer civilian refugees out of the Haraki safe zones and into the Harakian colony of Neo-Haraki have resumed once more in lieu of the recent resumption of hostilities against Zukariaan troops. All these convoys are defended by cruisers and the larger ones are defended by Ares-class escort carriers. There has also been talk of sending the HNS Nexus Battle-Carrier to fill the role of a battleship and provide extra air cover from convoys, as well as rumours that the twin Atherlon-class battleships Uses and Pethic will be taking their shakedown cruise to the Danteri area.
The operation to sweep any bandits or raiders out of the Haraki safe-zones continues, so far with no results.

A huge amount of supplies, along with more soldiers, APCs and other vehicles, are being transported by ship from the near (-er than Gwazzaria) protectorate of Tacualteu.
In addition, Gwazzaria has just loosened significantly the regulations on refugees. Danterians who want to leave the country now have Gwazzaria as an option.

Several ships have broken off from the main Gwazzarian fleet to protect the Neue Neue Deutsch Second Company's transport. The rest of the fleet has entered Danteri waters, and is en route to the Haraki Safe-Zone (where most of Gwazzaria's forces are stationed as perimeter guards).
Most of the new soldiers are part of the (formerly very small) Gwazzarian Marine Corps. They've been trained for the conditions in Danteri (which the heavy infantry are really not suited for), and will serve primarily as scouts and snipers.
The attacks against Zukariaan forces have slowed down - now, it's all just trench warfare, as the elite Zukariaan C.P. units brutally slaughter all who oppose them. It's getting messy...
As for the religious rebels, their open attacks have finally stopped, although they have continued a campaign of terrorist violence against the Zukariaans and their puppet government...
- Patrols by rebel commandos continue, so far with no results.
- The bandits near the Haraki Safe-Zones have been driven out of the immediate area around the Safe-Zones. Basically, they just move far enough out that the Haraki patrols don't find them, and then keep on attacking refugees... however, about 200 have been killed and 350 captured in recent crack-downs by the Harakis and their allies. The only question now is - what to do with the bandits taken prisoner? (There have been angry mobs forming in the Safe-Zones, calling for the bandits to be hung - no riots yet, however...)
Major-General Thomas Neil stepped up to the stairs of a multi-story building in front of a large crowd of angry refugees, and grabbed a bullhorn from one of the soldiers standing beside him. Flicking it on, he somewhat nervously looked at the angry faces in front of him, sighed, and began his speech.
"As you all know, I recently ordered sweeps by Harakian soldiers to remove the bandits who are preying on refugee columns. The sweeps are working, with over 500 bandits killed or captured in multiple raids just yesterday evening. I have ordered the expansion of the search radius, which will involve an extensive armour and artillery sweep with satellite, air and naval support stretching all the way from here to the coast to catch all of them. This will take time, but if it saves lives it's worth it.
"Now, on to the real issue I'm here to address. It has come to my attention that there are increasing calls for the execution of the captured bandits, some of whom are under fourteen years old and claim to have either been pressured into it or did it for the food that they gained from refugee columns.
"I would like to state, on the record, that as of this instant none of the bandits will be hung, shot, or executed in any fashion. Haraki does not have the death penalty and we also don't believe in vigilante lynchings. Rest assured, the bandits are well-imprisoned and will be tried in Harakian courts for war crimes. Most likely, every one of them will spend the rest of their life in prison. You can rest assured that they will pay for what they have done to innocent civilians and neutral soldiers.
"That is all. An evacuation convoy leaves in four hours. Everyone on the list for this convoy please report to the northern gate with everything you're taking with you as soon as possible."
He switched the megaphone off and quickly left the stage to go and beg Locke for more forces. With more refugees arriving every day and, it seemed, new nations arriving and 23Eris and Zukariaa on the brink of war, he would soon be overwhelmed by the sheer quantities of mouths he had to feed.
“Now explain to me one more time Minister El. Why exactly should we care about this Danteri place? It is far from our shores. Its people are savage barbarians. They and many of the other foreign devils have been engaged in a war for the past years. I’ve lost count of thier insanity. What was it something like 4+ NUCLEAR detonations?!?” The Laughing One finished with sputter.
He did not seem especially jovial at this particular moment, thought El. As a matter of fact, you could possibly say he was downright mad. Well perhaps enraged would better be fit. El was a protégée of the Venerable Me and was young to occupy the seat of First Minister, barely being forty 40 cycles.
El was careful to hide a fond smile. The old man really ought to remember to breath more often. He briefly grasped at a flicker of memory. It grew sharper as he focused upon the past. They had met when El was about four. He, as children are often inclined to do, decided to run away forever. It lasted about a four days, not too bad seeing as the national average was about three hours. Since the technology matured decades ago, most minors are implanted with locator chips and are easily located by concerned parents. El was not.
*
It was a glorious morning about 30 degrees or so. The morning mists were rapidly being burnt off by the rays of the rising dawn. El, being a relatively precocious child of the People, had actually made somewhat adequate preparations for his foray into the hills. He had packed, a small whatsit kit: knife, Band-Aids, candy, two hooks, a length of mono-line, a magnifying glass, slingshot, bowl and chopsticks, and a security blanket. He took the intercity tramline to Terminus 8E and had proceeded to walk. 8E was at that time the farthest the Melii had penetrated the interior of the mainland. It was not quiet civilized yet but nor was it a wilderness proper. There were numerous hermits, monasteries, survivalist compounds and innocuous villas scattered throughout the area.
Me was one of such said hermit. He sported a rather distinguished and shapely skull bisected by a very bushy eyebrow. It was almost as impressive as his girth. For an ascetic it seemed he ate well, very well indeed. El had not noticed the arrival of holy man until he was nearly upon him.
Well now what a strange sight, thought Me. Before him, sitting upon the middle of the path was a grubby young sample of the people. He appeared to be focusing the bright mid-afternoon sunlight upon a stream of ants. Me could hear the regular muffled popping as they marched fearlessly forward towards their ultimate goal of a small little pile of sucrose dragons. These sugary confections were fantastically shaped caramel figures and had been invented centuries previous, much to the delight of young and old alike. They were as beautiful to eyes as they were delicious to the tongue. Me sighed.
It was a pity that it was as ephemeral as many such worldly delights. His brow furrowed. The boy and ants of course being young boys and ants were oblivious to all of this. The ants entered another turning of the wheel, and the boy was laughing.
The venerable Me proceeded to beat the child. It was not a harsh beating for that would be cruel. Nevertheless, the great bodhi compassionately sacrificed some of his karmic credits to save the boy from his fate. Two days later they arrived at the Parc after walking the entire way there.
*
It would be a bad thing to be born an ant, mused El.
“Holiness, they are both barbarians and religious fanatics, intolerant and ignorant of the Path. Moreover, they are wedded to violence and I doubt they will ever fully embrace Wu,” replied El calmly.
“AND YOU...you propose to embroil us into this quagmire?” asked Me glared.
El worked hard at keeping his face blank and neutral. It strangely grew more and more difficult over the years, he darkly thought. For a living bodhisattva the embodiment calm, compassionate, and wise, he really is an ass sometimes.
“Holiness, we have neither the military resources nor do our people have any intention of entering this war as a combatant. That being said, millions have been displaced. Death and disease roam across the ocean. Yama realms grows fat with the manure of this conflict.
Master, I know that suffering is eternal and is death transient. I have meditated upon this since the fates we met. Nevertheless, is this...this demonic war necessary? They are possessed. It is like one of those accursed foreign epics of the barbarians of the Far West. They fight for the sake of fighting. Each morning the warriors girth themselves for battle. They die gloriously each day, and in the evening, they retire to an orgy of decadence. This cycle repeats ad infinum.
Would it not be to the betterment of all if we were to ease the suffering of these barbarians? Do we not have a duty to bring light to these savages,” El passionately pleaded close to tears.
Me’s belly laugh shooked the vaulted Great Hall. El blinked furiously to clear his eyes and glared at his Teacher. The laugh grew in volume and echoed back from the distant gilded rafters and muraled ceilings. They assaulted his already reddened ears.
After a time the booming died into spastic hiccups. His Holiness the Venerable Laughing One was well named. When the hiccups finally died down to mere sniffles he sniffed, “Hubris. We have no compunction to do anything. The People, barbarians devils and demons, all beings be they above, under, or outside heaven must come upon the Path in their own time. You my student are still too prideful and headstrong.”
El shrank into himself. Damn All of the Heavens the old man was right, he sullenly thought.
Me’s countenance brightened with a grin. “Your logic, while faulty and too full of self, does make some valid points. We shall send a small detachment to ease the suffering of these refugees. Support personal only. They will be detached as Red Wheel Expeditionary. See to it.”
El stood in numbed shock. He forgot to bow as the Master left the audience chamber. It worked? The Old Man agreed? After the initial shock wore off he began to laugh softly. This marked the first time in recorded history the Dominion of Me Li would reach out to the world. And if the ancestors will it, it would not be the last.
To Zukariaa
We will agree to a meeting. Our commander in Danteri, Colonel Papadakis will meet with a representative from Zukariaa. Time and place to be selected by you. We will present you with the evidence we have massed against your nation and present you with our final ultimatium.

To Zukariaa
We will meet in five hours in the coordinates included at the end of this transmission. Our representative will be arriving via unarmed helicopter. Any attack made against this vehicle or our represntative will be deemed an act of war.
I hope for the sake of both our nations, this is merely a misunderstanding.[Coordinates are in the Zukariaan/23Eris no-man's land]

Ambassador John Barralas moved in his rather large WHA-17 Viking attack copter. It landed in the area that he had been told to go to. He waited for the 23Erisian ambassador.

[From: Commodore Felias Locke]
[To: All Nations Involved in the Danterian Situation]
[Subject: Expansion of safe zones]
I would hereby like to propose that, given the scope of the conflict, the perimeter of the Harakian safe zones be extended. The first stage of this would be an extension down to cover the top of South Bay and cover the large city there and the ports along the bay. Second and even third steps would be expanding in all directions overland.
As the forces guarding the Harakian safe zones are now multinational in nature, composed largely of forces from Haraki, Gwazzaria and Bertling, with additional units from Neue Neue Deutschland and, soon, Me li, the forces defending the sixth safe zone city and the new perimeter of the safe zone area would be entirely multinational in nature, composed of forces from all involved nations that wish to send troops. The five original safe zones would remain entirely Harakian in nature, and only the newly added territory and cities would be multinationally defended.
Should this proposal be accepted by all involved parties for the sake of the Danterian civilians, the Harakian command has authorized reinforcements to be dispatched to safeguard the new zones. This would be composed of two brigades from the 58th Infantry Division to guard both the new city and the new perimeter, along with whatever multinational forces would be sent.
Please remember that Haraki and our companions in Gwazzaria, Bertling and the other nations safeguarding the civilians who choose to seek safety in the safe zones are entirely neutral in this conflict, and are only involved to minimize civilian casualties.
Felias Locke
Commander SINGH Vaya of the Dominion of Me Li’s Defense Force was having a bad day. The day started out well enough.
He had woken up with but a minor headache. This was in itself a surprise, considering the large quantities of soju, sake, and various other sickly sweet rice-wine liquors he had imbibed the previous night. Groaning softly, he started his morning rituals. His tolerance of alcohol had declined considerably since his days in the Académie. Yesterday, he had to join in the celebration of his mother’s sister’s daughter’s son’s Académie graduation. Despite the fact that his doctors had specifically forbad drinking, especially since his liver was such that it was could not handle much more stress, he was, nevertheless, compelled by Family duties to partake in the revelries.
After a half-an-hour in the shower, he got dressed in his PTs and prepared for the morning drills. He hated drills...march, turn, flourish, countermarch...sure it was damn fun and pretty in parades, and yes it instilled discipline and whatnot. It was less fun and pretty during a forced cross-country march, with a 20kg pack, in the rainy season when all of the trails turned to mush. The damn mud was pervasive...he broke into a grin.
Then again, the maggots hated it too, he thought with amusement. He giggled and then winced. In part, it was due to the effects of the hangover. The rest had to do with his self-image. It would not do for the grubs to know he laughed. It would be even worse if they knew he had such a non-fearsome laugh. Now scowling his face assumed the proper expression of an officer of the MDF.
While although the Dominion of Me Li has a large potential reserve of military personal due in some to compulsory universal training, it supported a rather small albeit extremely well trained and equipped permanent professional force. Indeed, despite the professed pacifism of the country’s populace, it produces some very good warriors. Few citizens pursued a study of the art of war outside of the mandatory two years and semi-quarterly trainings. Vaya was one of the exceptions.
As he was waiting for the tram, he listened to the news on the governmental channel. That was when his day started going to the crapper. Me Li was going to stick their noses into that hole and was probably going to get it chopped off. He being in command of one of the rapid response emergency disaster units, was probably going to see the radioactive skies of F%#%^ D-----. His Basics Gunny would have been proud of the surprisingly diversity and fluency of the expletives the commander had mastered since under his loving mentorship.
Now ten hours later, Vaya was hungry, irate and exhausted. The orders had come down from up high. His medical battalion was to be sent over to “assist in the multinational humanitarian relief efforts.” He had spent the day filling forms, filing and fuming. For a supposedly Free Anarchy, Me Li had developed a damnable amount of paper work. Logistics, Requisitions, tongue depressors. Not only did he have to deal with the government. The damn suppliers kept on bothering him too. Why the hell would we need more than 10,000,000 tongue depressors? Antibiotics, pharmaceuticals, a bigger military, yes. It was enough to drive a man crazy. He sighed and ordered pizza, it was going to be a long night.

[Subject: Multinational Safe Haven of South Bay]
Excellencies,
Devils your conflict has grown such that it can no longer be ignored. While your boots churn this charnel house and your dead poison the lands. What of the people of Danteria?
Me Li hereby concurs with the declaration of South Bay as an International Safe Haven. We come with open palms. We state now that have no interest in your barbarian lands. We are here solely as a medical relief contingent. All personnel are unarmed. Be warned any and all attacks may or may not be answered.
In ten days, the Red Wheel Expeditionary force containing one escort cruiser two destroyers and one hospital ship as well as transports carrying one medical battalion of the MDF will arrive at South Bay. The ships shall escort and safeguard the convoy until said convoy safely reaches South Bay port. They and the transports shall then return to escort refugee ships back to the Dominion of Me Li.
Asylum is hereby offered to all combattants. They shall be processed and initially settled on the largely unihabited island of D49 (Devils' Island). Facilties are currently being constructed for their temporary stay. After acculturazation, training, and residency requirements have been met. Immigrants are invited to join the Melii in the conquest of the interior.
Veuillez accepter, Excellencies, mes salutations distinguées.

Major Murphy watched from atop the heavy APC as the new soldiers filed off of the transports. Most only had minimal body armor, and many carried the silenced GA-52 light assault rifle or a sniper rifle instead of a BDT Ag-1. These would be the ones doing sweeps to help in minimizing bandit activity and keep the long-range perimeter secure. The heavy infantry was much happier to begin digging in.
More important than the soldiers of this convoy were the supplies - medical, food, mechanical. Only a small portion of it was for the Gwazzarian soldiers there, most of it would be going towards humanitarian aid.
Major Murphy sighed and adjusted his monocle, looking back down at the map of the area around the Haraki Safe-Zones. The new expansion would be easier with all the vehicles coming in off this convoy, though fuel was posing a bit of a problem (and hoofing it was not a good option for the heavy infantry). Hopefully it was positioned far enough from the border that the Safe-Zones could develop a better infrastructure more quickly.
Distance didn''t always matter, though, as the nerve gas bombings had shown. Haraki had already installed anti-missile systems around the safe zones, but more would be needed farther out on the perimeter. He'd have to speak to Commodore Locke about perhaps creating some fortified positions with radar and SAM that could also give the heavy infantry a place to stay in the long run. He hauled up a kevlar-covered laptop (Gwazzaria is serious about computer security) and began tapping out a message to that extent.
OOC: Map of the proposed first safe zone boundary change (http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a381/Phoenix_Dace/DSZ.jpg)
I also added the location of the port used by the Harakian troops and ships, just so I don't have to rely on describing the locations.
ooc: please forgive me if this post isn't up to par. I'm somewhat inebrated at the moment.
IC: Colonel papadakis descended to an area just on the 23Eris side of the frontier inan unarmed MI-8 Hip helicopter modified for command and control transport. Accompanying was a single KA-50N attack chopper which stayed approximately a mile away from the border.
Exiting the chopper Papadakis hurried to the rendezvous point with a briefcase full of the evidence discovered. Seeing the Zukariaan awaiting him Papadakis extended a hand. "Colonel Papadakis sir. I'm glad your people agreed to this meeting. I have with me some of the evidence against your nation."
[Papadakis carries with him some of the shells, descriptions from eyewitnesses, and some wiring from the guidance system of an anti-tank rocket in the briefcase]

To Haraki
Our nation supports your planned increase in the boundaries of the international safe zone and will continue to fully recognize and respect your boundaries. We are also gladdened that your nation, as well as those of Gwazzaria and Bertling continue to care for large numbers of unfortunates driven from their homes by this terrible war.

Barralas glanced at the outstretched hand. Then he looked at Papadikis's face.
"Show me what you have. I can guarantee that it wasn't our men, and if it was, the men will be punished. We will not tolerate disobedience." he said, finally taking the hand.
No Man's Land, Zukariaan Meeting
Papadakis lifted up the briefcase and flipped the latches on either side. Thn tipping it so that one hand was beneath supporting the case, he used his free hand to open it. Inisde wee three casings, some electronics from an AT round, and some written descriptions of people in faux-Zukariaan uniforms.

OOC-this is based on the fact that it would be extremely hard to reinvent or get a copy of the new Kraven equipment given to each soldier.
At The Meeting
Barralas examined the each thing before saying,"These casings are old. They arn't used in our forces anymore. The Kraven Corporation supplies us with everything now. Same goes for the other things."
He thought for a moment,"In the off chance that this is our soldiers, we'll deal with them. But it isn't. Our soldiers know obedience, and if they are not obedient they know what happens. They wouldn't, and couldn't, do this. Not unless ordered to."
He looked at the man,"How do you explain these attacks from your men? We found several dead Zukariaan soldiers near the border of 23Eris and our territory. It was either your people, Freiburg, or Soloriel."
"Impossible. My people don't want war with you. Even with the Danteri assaulting your positions all over the line your total forces outnumber ours. We aren't suicidal," Papadakis responded. "I will order a full investigation into the matter and send you a copy of my findings within 48 hours. Will that be satisfactory?"
[NS]Zukariaa
30-04-2006, 16:43
OOC-we're being set up into going to war with one another.
"Fine. I will say this: If neither of us has any idea who is doing this, we don't go to war. Obviously, neither of us have any knowledge of these attacks and they are therefore not our faults."
"I concur. Unless there is absolute proof of Zukariaan complicity I believe I can assure you my government will not declare war." Papadakis responded. "However if we continue to come under attack and the people of my country demand action..." his voice trailed off. "Well, I will try to be sure it does not come to that. Good day sir, I've an investigation to begin."
[NS]Zukariaa

"Good day." Barralas replied, then turned around and walked back to his copter.
South Bay, Danteria
Commander SINGH Vaya was in a good mood. The voyage to South Bay, Danteria was blissfully boring. Neither sea demons stirred, nor dragons churned the waters of the sea into gloriously gray canyons. There were no banshees screeching and flattening the white tops. There were no white tops, strange that considering the time of year. The International Fleet had cleared most of the mines prior to the Task Force’s arrival. The Red Wheel Expeditionary met the small detachment of destroyers, two days ago. The convoy made the Cape late last night and arrived in the South Harbor early this morning.
He could not help feeling everything was just going too damn well. Things are bound to end in a clusterfuck, they usually always do.
Vaya shook his head and grinned. These barbarians had a delightful saying about not looking too closely at an ugly gift woman’s mouth. It was a great saying, although probably best whispered out of the Companions’ hearing. They could get a bit miffed about that sort of thing. Well, miffed would be putting it mildly. The Guild had a nasty and vindictive streak when provoked. Moreover, they tended to blacklist those who do not exhibit the proper respect for their offices.
That would not do at all. Many of the foreigner’s were attractive in an exotic sort of way. A few of the refugees, if given some food and a good scrubbing would be stunning. That may cause some problems in the future.
While although he feared that the stresses of this deployment would be high, the battalion should do well. They were a goodly group of grubs and officers. Melii tended to be a stubborn, independent, and difficult people. They really had to work hard at giving a damn what other people thought. Despite the discipline of the MDF, it often felt at times like trying to shepard a herd of wild deer.
It was damn difficult. The beasts scatter easily and come the rut they get over possessive in defending their territories. Long-term captive herds tended to show signs of domestication after several generations. Nevertheless, although it was invariably tricky, it could be done without domesticating them. The principles of the Dominion of Me Li usually worked out well. He let them alone they in turn usually did what they were suppose to do. The government ran on the same principles for centuries now. It works well enough. We are still working on what to do if people didn’t do what needs doing. However, it hasn’t come up too often.
To be blacklisted, however, may very well drive some of them crazy. He must remember to talk to the grubs about discipline and their ummm...inventive ways of overcoming the language barriers.
South Bay, Danteria
He had just gotten an OK from the doctors. He could go ahead and pick his method of death. Seeing as he was an experienced connesiour of fine liqours, spirits, wines, and beers he thought it would be appropiate to make a showing at the Kong. Besides it was raining and the pub was the closest building to the Companion offices he was just exiting.
Vaya sighed and grinned wider behind his scarf. A bachelor’s life wasn’t so bad. His first marriage hadn’t gone so well. Both of the concerned parties had a tendency to partake of other gardens of delights. Now that he was his own man and could do his own thing. So why does he still feel he failed somehow? His Companion had said that it was normal to feel such thing and time would heal all wounds.
Vaya shook his head. What did they teach now at the Enclave? She also suggested that he stop boinking anything with two legs, boobies, and a hole. That suggestion was just plain ridiculous, impossible, and probably very likely unhealthy.
A memory tickled his mind’s eye. It was just after his divorce was finalized. He was drowning in some imported bourbon in the Foreign District when his brother and grandfather found him. After arresting him for being A-wall and throwing him into detox, his Grandpa stopped being his instructor for awhile, and had actually showed a softer side. His grandfather had said it best, “Damnit boy! You a fuckin’ pansy-assed nancy-boy? It is all just fuzzy-headed, fascist-feminist, psycho-babble. The best way to get over a woman was to get under one!” Now that was good advice and great counseling. Grandpa always did have a way with words.
A pity that the tangible despair and thick reek of fear of ISF 6 was so easily discernable. This bleak posting was enough to shrivel anyone’s desires. His testes were still kissing his kidneys from his tour of the surrounding countryside this morning. The sheer enormity of the task before him left him close to despair. He blocked that train of thought. Focus on the immediate, things will work out...however they may.
“Don’t borrow trouble boy. It’ll find you sooner or later,” shouted Grandpa into his ear.
“YES, yes I know Grandfather. Drink and make merry...” he replied irritably.
He took the double shot and then placed the glass on the bar upside down.
The second half of the saying was lost as the grappa made it’s way to his stomach. He had traded an excellently aged bottle of His Holiness’s Best for about a case of this barbarian liquor spirits. It was not too bad a deal for an old sailor. Both sides had left feeling that they had cheated the other. So it was pretty decent deal. Now he was less sure that he got the better deal.
“Travel the world, experience new things, meet different people,” was what the First Minister said when he ordered him to this armpit under heaven.
OK the trip was nice, the Foreign Devils really weren’t too bad once you got to know them. But this stuff was almost as bad as the First Minister’s white lightening rheumatism medicine. He could feel the deaths of his entire throat.
Not to bad at all, once you got used to it, he thought happily. It had the added benefit of rendering both his fears and Grandpa quiet. For a time he would be away from this Armpitia.
Salut !!

Telegram to All Officials involved in Danteri conflict
We request a meeting with all nation's top officals in Lexington City to discuss important matters occuring in Danteri at this point. We may hammer out an attempt at peace durign this conference.
From SP Drew Harris
The offensive against Zukariaa continues, making little progress and suffering huge cassualties. It isn't looking good for the Danterians - their units are suffering increadible cassualties, and just seem plain unable to face C.P. units and survive. (Currently, cassualties are at about 100,000 soldiers killed in action).
The religious rebels have been routed as an effective military force. Of course, massive terrorist campaigns continue, but their units can no longer take to the field to oppose the Zukariaans and their allies.
The Danteri Puppet Governemnt under the Zukariaans has suceeded in launching a campaign of assassinations that, while only partially sucessful, have demoralized the alreay reeling Unified Danteri Army. Out of about 100 targets, 24 were succesfully hit.
As such, the Unified Danteri Army is suffering from low morale, and seems to be on the verge of lossing the initiative...
OOC: Yes, I got permission for this...
The rebel commandos stalked their prey with grim skill - the enemy had moved to attack the slow moving collumn of conscripts as they trudged towards the front lines... but, they hadn't realized that the commandos were following them.
The enemy never knew what hit them. The first shots were allmost all fatal - only two survived the initial volley, and out of those, only one was able to raise his rifle and shoot before the Danterians were all over them. The one who'd fired hit a commando, and sent the man flying back, most of his torso reduced to a bloody mess... he died himself as one of the fallen man's comrades took revenge with a knife, cruely cutting the throat from behind... as for the other, he was knocked down, knocked about... and taken alive.
Much Later
The prisoner moaned softly as the interrogator broke another of his fingers. The man in the corner shuddered - no matter how often he had to deal with former Danteri Governemnt Security men, no matter how much they did for the cause, their gleeful sadism still turned his stomach.
The interrogator wore a grey Danteri Army uniform without insignia... Danteri Governemnt Security no longer existed, after all... at least not officially. The prisoner wore nothing but his own blood and a layer of filth... he had lasted longer than almost anyone who Danteri Government Security had got its hands on, but now he began to talk...
The interrogator broke the last of his fingers to speed him on his way, and he began to tell them why he had been out there, stalking their conscripts with his comrades...

The Second Company had landed near Safe-Zones. They didn't look like much in the way of soldiers - they wore armour that was basically police riot gear, and carried high-quality weapons, but, almost all of them were young men, clean shaven and polished. They looked like the sort of soldiers one saw standing around at attention in national monuments, but not like soldiers who you could count on to fight and die for a cause.
They landed quickly, and established a defensive perimiter around their landing zone. However, they did so with skills that were obviously only known to them from excercises. These men weren't veterans, weren't even that well trained.
Once the defensive perimiter was established, they sent a message to the Haraki and Me li expeditionary commands, requesting that their units be intergrated into the patrol scheduals.

Two thousand angry protestors screamed obscenities and waved signs with various recomendations, many of them involving the Chancellor and a number of physically impossible obscene acts. To put it bluntly, it wasn't pretty.
The Bundestag was in session, and the Conservative Democratic Party opposition was being, for once, just as "undignified" and noisy as the radicals of the Liberal opposition coalition.
All of these people were screaming about the same thing, although for different reasons - about five hundred of those protestors wanted the Chancellor to be "tougher" and send in more troops to "maintain order", while the other fifteen hundred wanted him to bring back the troops right this very minute. On the inside of the building, the two opposition parties were acting like idiots, hoping to score political points by playing off the current crisis. All in all, it was a typical day for Neue Neue Deutschland. You had to have some trouble like this if you were going to be serious about free speech and right to assembly. Thankfully, all of the protestors were being "mature" enough to avoid physical violence so far, but riot police were on standby.
Sometimes, the Chancellor wondered what it would be like to be in charge of a nation where the government was respected and obeyed, as opposed to protested and decried. Surely, there had to be a way to run a government without weekly riots...
OOC: This guy is one of the Reformed Sparta guys... (Yes I had permission to do this!)
It had been hard to break him, but everyone broke eventually when they came into the tender embrace of Danteri Government Security... or whatever it was that they called it now. Whatever case applied, no one felt like obeying the rules of war when those foreigners were concerned, or so it seemed...
Whatever the case, he had finally talked, after the ex-DGS man had had a field day with his thumb-screws and a set of nasty-looking spikes... the prisoner was talking, and they didn't like what he had to say.
Much Later
The tape was sent to the 23Erisian commander. It was long, it was bloody, and it was brutal, but... it ended with the prisoner talking. The things that the DGS man had done to him made the stomach turn, but they had uncovered the truth behind the recent raids. With a rasping voice, he gave his narative - it consisted of only one interesting, true, statement - name, rank and serial number... all in the Spartan army.
(Unified Danteri Army General Staff)
We will fight on until the last drop of our blood is spilt. We will never surrender. Our bloody corpses shall be the only thing you will win in victory over us... you say we might live if we surrender, but how would we live? As slaves? Does a slave's life have any value at all? We doubt it. We will fight until we win or perish... those are the only two options we face: victory, or annihilation.
