Skadi and Hondur casually made their way through the streets of Emerald City. It had been 25 years since Hondur had entered his new existence. It had been difficult, but he had finally accepted what he was and his new life. He had no choice. He had grown to love Skadi over the years. She was strong, beautiful and intelligent. And the most important thing in Hondur's life.

The laws regaurding vampires were now well in place throughout the nation. Although they treated vampires as equal citezens, many from both sides objected. Many vampires argued that their place was in the shadows, not in public scrutiny. They felt they should not be registered citezens. This also instigated feeding problems. The government had programs for feeding. Such as convict disposal, synthetic blood and doners. But this was not the same as hunting. For these reason and more, an anti-government terroist faction composed of vampires was now a reality. AGVO (Anti-Government Vampire Organisation)

On the other side, many humans objected to allowing vampires to be part of the nation. They called for them to be hunted down and eradicated. This sparked the creation of a vigilanti group, AVO (Anti-Vampire Organisation)

Both organisations are illegal according to the government. Because of the rising tentions and violence committed by these groups, it was necessary for the government to create their own organisation to enforce laws and deal with vampires that strayed from the law. Hence, VP (Vampire Police) was created.

VP have the duty of ensuring that vampires do not hunt innocent human citezens and that humans don't hunt innocent vampire citezens. They are well equipped to deal with vampire and human threats. They have the right to use excessive force on any member of the two terroist organisations.

Skadi and Hondur were in the middle of it all. They are both wanted by the VP for feeding upon citezens and the murder of several AVO members.

The pair continued down the street, the rain sliding over their white faces. They were hardly noticed by the public. Thanks to such things as makeup, they could walk amongst humans easily. Living under the law was not easy. It meant they must constantly move around, to prevent suspicion. On several occassions they attempted to live as humans do, but the public knowledge of the vampiric existence, made it very difficult. Especially since for a vampire to do anything in the world of humans, they must produce a registration ID card.

Although they were not top priority on the vampiric wanted list, these two had caught the attention of the Emerald City VP. And things were not going to get easier.

It was time to feed.

Santeria slowly walked into Emerald City. Somehow word reached her from her hospital room. She has since healed from her previous wounds. However, her formidable foe left her with more then a scar.

She walked slowly. Her companion has not yet been seen since they last parted. She went ahead with the mission, he was to join, but he never appeared. She feared the worst and somehow managed to move on. If he were alive, he would find her. But, being that she believed he was dead, she knew she would meet him again the realm after this one life.

She stopped on the streets, the breeze blew her long hair black into her face. Her purpose was sound, she knew what she would have to do.

OOC: Welcome DFD. I believe we have rp'd together before. I was under the name of Arithon though.

Assington is a large nation, the population continues to grow. Over 40% of the population have some sort of psychic abilities. Emerald City is the 3rd biggest in the nation and is situated upon the North Coast. The land has many large forests as well as a desert known as the Triangular Wastelands. Assington is a modern nation and the structures are similar, perhaps slightly different in some aspects. Some technology is a little post-modern, but nothing too rediculous. Crime is not tolerated the police are very harsh with criminals and terroists.

The government is a dictatorship, but the leader is worthy and works for the people. So all is good.

Anything else?

Hondur spun around as he sensed it. A man held a baretta within his jacket, he intended to hold up the nearby 7/11. He looked up to his sire to find she too had noticed the man with ill intent. Casually they both spun around, heading for the man. Before Hondur could do anything, Skadi disappeared in a blur of speed.

As the young man made his way toward the 7/11, he passed a dark alley. He was about to continue on his way when he noticed a stunning dark haired woman, calling for him.

"Oh big boy, come over here." Skadi spoke in a seductive manner.

The criminal grinned. "Tonight is my lucky night."

As the man approached Skadi, Hondur leapt off a nearby building, landing directly behind the criminal.

"I don't think so."

Without another word both vampires sunk their fangs into the helpless man, draining him of life.

EDIT: What exactly is it about sunlight that kills these vampires? UV?

OOC: No, it isn't the UV. The it is the direct light from the sun. It can't be simulated. I don't want this turning into blade with uv grendades everywhere. Give it a go and we'll see how you go.

Hondur and Skadi quickly made their way out of the alley. They would have to be far away from the scene as the body would be discovered soon. Once that happened, it was bound to attract AVO hunters and VP officers. The two figures smiled as they wiped the blood from their white faces.

Osiris slammed his leather clad fist against the wall.

"Damnit! The level is rising. More AGVO strikes. More AVO strikes. And more bloody vampire victims. I say from now on we tag every vamp we run into."

The chief shook his head.

"I'd like to, but we can't. They have 'rights'."

He said the last word in disgust. The pair had been going over the latest activity of vampires and the sort within the city over the last month. Osiris held a large silver sword, carefully sharpening the edge.

"This isn't right. The ordinary police get to use more force against ordinary criminals than we get to. That is why we're getting the shit kicked out of us!"

They continued to debate the issue within the depths of the VP HQ in Emerald City.

OOC:
Sure.
IC:
A man walked up to the VP HQ. He was almost the very description of average - about 5'10, with a slightly muscular, athletic but otherwise ordinary build, with dark, short hair and brown eyes. He wore a pair of khaki cargo pants and a nylon windbreaker with the words HSEQA LM stenciled on the back, over a t-shirt. The most stunning thing about his appearance was the lack of remarkable features - or at least ones which could be seen. Nobody should be that ordinary. A ring on his right hand bore a stylized bear's head in front of a crossed thunderbolt and a sword.

He had a duffel bag slung over one shoulder hanging by his right side, and two hard, long, flat plastic rifle cases hung over the other. In his hand were a map, and some official-looking papers with the Quin Aen seal on them.

He walked up to the person behind the front desk, and said to the person there "Hello. I'm John Liao, and I was assigned to VP from Quin a for cross-training purposes. Whom should I see?"
Assington
19-12-2003, 11:34
The man behind the desk nodded.

"You should probably see Osiris. He's in the chief's office."

The man pointed to the door ar the top of the stairs.
Quin a
19-12-2003, 11:38
"Right. See you later then."

Liao headed up the stairs and opened the door.

"Hello, er... What would you prefer me to address you as? Captain Osiris, or just Osiris?"
Assington
19-12-2003, 12:58
Osiris and the chief looked up. After quickly looking over the man he realised who it must be.

"Oh, hey. Welcome to Assington. You can call me Osiris. And this guy here is the chief."
Quin a
19-12-2003, 17:20
"Hello Chief and Osiris, as you've no doubt guessed, I am G. Sgt. John Liao from the Quin aen military. Where should I stow my gear, and where am I quartered? I would also like to meet the other members of my team."

He gives the official-looking papers to the Chief, and looks quizzingly at the sword in Osiris' hand.

"Swords? Should I have brought along more melee weapons? I'm afraid that the only such weapon I brought was a simple combat knife."
Der Fuhrer Dyszel
19-12-2003, 21:41
Santeria from whispered words found the headquarters of the VP. She slowly slipped into the building and headed toward a desk within the confines of the room.

"Hello my name is Santeria. I am inquiring about an occupation here. You see, I have heard that you may need some help here and decided to check it out."

She smiled pleasently and blinked lightly.
Assington
20-12-2003, 02:44
The man at the desk looked up.

"New recruit hey? Well. you'll have to fill these forms out, then go over to the room in the back right corner of the building for ID stuff. Then We'll inform you of the training course and the sort."

The man rumaged around in a draw until he pulled out a small stack of papers.

"There you go."
_______________

Osiris looks at the sword.

"Oh, it's ok. We have a large armoury of weapons. Most of our weapons have silver in them one way or another. It hurts the vamps. You could stab them and they would heal up. But a silver blade takes much longer for the wound to heal."

The chief pulled out a small electronic device and keyed in a few details, then handed it to John.

"This is your badge. It acts as an ID, keycard, personal organiser and has useful things like a map of the city and other information. Don't lose it. About your accomodation, you can either find a place of your own or live in the barracks here. It's up to you. You'll be in Osiris' team. The rest are out on a mission at the moment."
Quin a
20-12-2003, 04:20
Liao takes the badge and pockets it.

"I think I will stay in the barracks. It makes everything so much easier that way. I'd like to stop by the armory and pick up some silver ammounition, and fire off a few rounds at the range. I'll keep my guns with me, if you don't mind."
Der Fuhrer Dyszel
20-12-2003, 05:33
Santeria takes the small stack of papers. She takes them to a small table and sits at a chair, beginning to fill them out.

After about some time of writing endlessly, she picked up the papers and neatly stacked them.

"Is this all?"
20-12-2003, 06:04
Rúmil Palantír walked in the door of the VP HQ and asked the receptionist if there were any spots left in the new squad.
Assington
20-12-2003, 06:25
The guy behind the desk nodded.

"Yep. You're the last one. You'll have to fill out some forms, then get some ID stuff done. Then it's off to the training course."

He pulled out another stack of paper and handed it to the new arrival.

He turned his attention to Santeria.

"I'll take the papers. Head into the room in the back right corner of the building. They'll do an ID verification and that sought of stuff."

The man pointed toward the door.
20-12-2003, 06:33
Having filled out the paperwork, Rúmil Palantír returned it to the guy then walked through the door he'd pointed out a few minutes earlier.

Coming back from the armory with several boxes of new silver ammounition, in the Barracks, Liao finally opens his bags. He takes his clothes - pretty much all like what he's wearing now, with a heavy jacket and a sweatshirt, along with a few athletic shorts - and places them in the appropriate drawers. Towards the bottom of the duffel bag is his tactical gear and his 1911 pistol, along with several gun cleaning kits.

He takes out several spare magazines and starts loading in the new silver hollowpoints, then he disassembles the 1911, and cleans it. Pulling out a thigh holster, he secures the reassembled 1911 in the holster and places it under his bed.

He then procedes to one of the two rifle cases. The thumbprint and DNA locks slide open with a soft whirring noise, and he opens the case to reveal a Winchester Super X2 Practical shotgun and a M14.

OOC: I just guessed that it'd be OK for Liao to pick up some ammo. Now he's just taking care of his guns, like a good little soldier.
Assington
20-12-2003, 10:40
OOC: That's fine. A sword is standard issue as well.

IC: Five men burst in through the front door of the VP HQ. Many sported minor wounds and carried an asortment of firearms and blades. One of the men was losing a large amount of blood over the floor.

Osiris quickly made his way over to his team when he was alerted of their arrival.

"What happened?"

The officer in charge of the team looked up, his face contorted with pain.

"It was an ambush. We were called out to deal with multiple vamp sightings, but it was a damn ambush! We'd be dead if it wasn't for a bunch of AVO members. We also lost Jason. He got sucked."

Osiris nodded.

"Good work Tyr. Go get patched up."

Osiris made his way back to the chief's office.

"They just got wrecked. If you look down there, my team has just walked in, bleeding all over the damn floor! I don't care if the government won't let us use 'excessive' force. They aren't getting slaughtered!"

Osiris stormed out of the office and headed to his bunk in the barraks.

was about 6'5", lithe and agile looking with long silver hair, and silver eyes and clothed in a black trench coat with black pants and a black
t-shirt underneath. He was currently waiting off down a side alley from the VP building. He was waiting for the next team to emerge figuring he could follow them to wherever the vamps were. He'd heard they had ungodly restrictions about using "excessive force" so he figured he should stay away from working with them officialy. While he waited he checked his weapons: 2 Katanas, 7 knives, 2 automatic pistols, sniper rifle, and whip.* In addition to this he was a witch.**

*Yes he can carry all this, and everything is silvered.
**This isn't nearly as powerful as one would think, it gives him extra strength (not as strong as a vamp) and the ability to use telekineses(sp) and the ability to sense auras. If you don't want him to have that then say so and he will just be telekinetic.

As Osiris headed into the barraks, he noticed a team fully equipped and leaving.

"Good luck."
_________________

Garm nodded toward Osiris. The team burst out of the building and jumped into a large unmarked, armoured vehicle.

"Let's go. Reports say there's an AGVO attack on the military museum."
Menoth
20-12-2003, 14:42
OCC: So no extra strength? Can I make the aura sensing a form of telepathic power:?

IC: As he saw the team leaving he used his telepathy to track their minds as he hoped on his motorcycle and followed them at a distance, so he wouldn't be noticed.
Assington
20-12-2003, 14:50
OOC: Correct, no super strength. You can do the aura thing though.

IC: The VP vehicle pulled up on the corner of the museum to find several vampires unleashing bricks and other such objects through the museum window.

Garm stepped out of the car, leading his men.

"Alright men. Quick and efficient. Unless they threaten your lives, do not kill. Just remember, accidents do happen."

Garm grinned as he said those last words, drawing a desert eagle in one hand and a silver samurai sword in the other. The rain flowed down over his black trench coat. His normally brown hair appeared black in the rain and his eyes were hidden behind glasses.

Without another word, he casually walked up to a nearby vampire and impaled the distracted creature from behind.

OOC: Remember, vampire hunters are illegal unless they are VP's. So you're character won't want to get caught.
Menoth
20-12-2003, 15:30
OCC: Though I suppose VP won't expend too much energy hunting my character as long as he doesn't go to far.

Kerrigor dismounted his cycle about a block from the museum. He walked toward the museum, but instead of turning the corner that would bring it into veiw, he entered an alley and snuck around the building next to him so he was in the back of an alleyway facing the museum. He got out his sniper rifle, took aim at the nearest vampire, and fired. He tried to use his telepathy to convince the combatants that the sound had come from somewhere else. Meanwhile he continued firing. But as soon as one of the vamps, or VPs saw through his mental illusion he would sprint down the alley back to his cycle and ride off.
Assington
20-12-2003, 15:41
The rest of the VP's dived into battle. Moonlight reflected off the silver blades that were flying around the battle scene. A vampire dropped to his knees, directly behind Garm. He spun around to see the vamp collapse with several silver blades embedded in it's back.

A bulky vampire leapt off a nearby building, screaming as it descended toward Garm. He spun around just in time to get one shot off before it landed on him. With the help of two other officers, they removed the nearly headless corpse.

Muttering a quick word of thanks, Garm headed back into battle. Screams of pain could be heard throughout the night as the battle raged on. If it wasn't for the rain, the streets would be stained red.

OOC: Indeed.
Menoth
20-12-2003, 16:03
Kerrigor continued firing, this time specifically looking to help out VPs in trouble.
Assington
20-12-2003, 16:08
Garm hadn't noticed it before, but it was made obvious to him when a vampire's head was half blown away without himself or any of his men doing anything. After waiting a few more seconds, he heard it. Rifle fire. None of his men had any rifles. It must be a AVO member.

Garm took note of the shooter, but was grateful for the aid. He leapt off a nearby seat and swung his blade downward, severing an arm from a nearby vampire.

He almost soiled himself when he noticed at least 30 more vampires approaching.

"Guys, assemble back here. We're in deep Sh!t"
Menoth
20-12-2003, 16:29
Kerrigor felt the vampires approaching and figured it would be best to flee. With a parting shot he ran back down the alley puting away his rifle and leapt onto his motorcycle and drove away. However he circled around so that if he kept driving he would end up right behind the vamps. There he waited, watching to see if the VPs needed assistance escaping.
Quin a
20-12-2003, 16:46
Liao, on his first action with the VP, was at that moment very thankful that he had decided to bring a shotgun, particularly a semi-auto one. The bandolier of shells slung across his chest was slowly running down, and he had to pause often to begin reloading. Half of one vampire's head disappeared in a puff of red mist. Another lost his arm when he was shot in the shoulder. Several more took shells into the torso, and were definitely stopped. Unfortunately, there were always more wherever a vampire fell. And more kept coming. It would take more than just a shotgun to win this day.

"Hmph. Should always bring a rifle in this city. And incindiary grenades. What was that they said, fire kills? Too bad they don't make more incindiary ammounition. Maybe I'll make some."

As he fired his last silver shell, he dropped the shotgun, letting the tactical sling across his body catch the weapon, and drew his pistol with one smooth motion. Flicking on the light switch, he used the built in flashlight to stun a nearby vamp, and put two bullets into its head.

OOC: My character actually doesn't know how to use a sword. He knows pole arms and knives, though, so he just grabbed like 5 silver throwing knives and a silver combat knife. Also, the light on his pistol is just normal light, but it's bright enough to stun anybody it's pointed at for a second or so.
Assington
20-12-2003, 16:48
Garm examined the situation and concluded it was time to leave. He turned to him men.

"We're getting out of here, but first we're leaving a parting gift. Get me those two pressurised barrels in the boot."

Two men retrieved the barrels and placed them on the road. The labels read AGN03 (Silver Nitrate). Garm hooked a small charge to both barrels and pointed them toward the incoming vampires.

"Have a drink you blood sucking bastards!"

He hit the detonator, causing a hole to be blown in the barrels. The silver nitrate shot out, toward the unsuspecting vampires. The stench of burning flesh filled the air as the vamps were exposed to the liquid.

Garm smirked.

"Let's go."

He lead his men, some injured, back into the car and sped away from the scene.
Quin a
20-12-2003, 17:04
As they made their way back to the vehicle, Liao turned to Garm and started talking.

"Hey Garm, I've got an idea for some new toys we could use against the vamps. In my time with the Quin aen Land Marines, we had to, uh... recondition valuble and classified equipment when it fell into enemy hands. To do this we had thermite grenades. I've got a few connections with my old unit still, and I can probably get a few boxes of grenades. Be warned, though, they burn long and hot - 4000 F if I remember right for about 40 seconds, and they're bright enough to ruin your night vision for a while. I've got a few ideas for new ammounition, but that'll have to wait."

This was certainly the most to come out of Liao for some time, and the first suggestion. Except when talking about guns, Liao didn't speak unless needed.
Assington
20-12-2003, 17:08
Garm nodded.

"We'll go over that when we get back to base."

Garm winced as he put too much pressure on a wounded leg.

"Did anyone notice a sniper during the battle?"
Quin a
20-12-2003, 18:03
"Now that you mention it, I might have heard a few rifle shots, and some of the dead vampires seemed to have been shot from an odd angle, one which wasn't consistent with our positioning at the time. I can't be too sure though, because I was focused on the task at hand."

Santeria watched a heard of people, battle worn come into the building. Fighting the urge to follow them, she remained where she was. She walked to the room that she was directed toward.

Feeling guilty about not following those people, she stood awkward in the middle of the room.
Assington

A man approached Santeria.

"Ok, you're ID checks out. Do you have any military or police experience? If not, you'll have to do the training tests."

Garm nodded.

"There was definately someone else out there, shooting vamps."
Quin a
21-12-2003, 19:02
"Hmm. Too bad we can't recover those bodies. Maybe if we could get bullets from them, we could run some ballistic and forensic tests on them. Anyways, from now on, if you guys don't mind, I'm carrying a rifle around. If you don't need me after the debrief, I'll be talking to the armory guys. As I said, I've got some ideas for a new cartridge or two."

Rúmil stood in the middle of the room, wondering what the hell was going on.
Assington
22-12-2003, 05:21

"Ok, I'm going to have to get a retina scan, finger prints and a DNA sample off you."

Garm agreed.

"Sure, any effective ideas are welcome."
Quin a
22-12-2003, 05:52
"Alright, thanks."

Later on, in the armory...

"See, most of the silver ammounition we use now is pure silver. That's a very hard projectile, and it might or it might not stay in the vampire. It's more than fine in shotguns when we use buckshot because it sticks inside by nature, but in pistols and rifles that's bad. But what if we went to a normal JHP with a lead and silver alloy filling? The lead would be soft enough to expand, while the silver would hurt the vampire. Or how about a silver-jacketed bullet, instead of the normal copper? I'm still trying to figure out how to create an incendiary round without it either being huge or melting gun barrels."

Liao was bouncing ideas off of the local gunsmith, his hobby as of late.

"Oh, and what about those thermite grenades? Or if that doesn't work, we could use fuel-air ones - like a paintball grenade, except with a spark of some sort."
Assington
22-12-2003, 06:11
The armoury officer nodded.

"These are some good ideas you have here. I think the lead and silver alloy filling would work well. At the moment, I'm working on a silver nitrate grenade, but the problem is the explosion spreads the liquid out too far and isn't very effective. Any ideas?"
______________

Garm entered the barraks, covered in blood. He sat on his bed, under Osiris.

"We were lucky to survive that. There are too many of them. And there is someone out there with a sniper rifle, giving us a hand."

"I see. The way I see it, help like that is welcome. Even if it is breaking the law."

Skadi and Hondur came across the aftermarth of the battle. Several vampires lay dead, even more wounded in some way. Hondur gawked at the horrific scene.

"I can't believe they would do this to us."

Skadi dragged Hondur away.

"They had it coming. They were arrogant fledgelings asking for it."

Hondur couldn't believe what he was hearing.

"You would turn you back on our own kind?"

A passion could be seen in Skadi that was rarely obvious to others.

"They are not our kind. They are wreckless and stupid. They can't expect to win a war against the humans. Our place is in the shadows, we avoid things like this. It is not our nature."

The pair continued through the streets.
22-12-2003, 06:53
"Fine." Rumil said.
Quin a
22-12-2003, 06:57
"If you have some sort of inert compressed gas - CO2 or N2 for example - push the silver nitrate solution out of the grenade instead of an explosion, it should atomize the liquid. You could experiment with the flow of the gas - you definitely don't want it too slow, or it would just drip. That's a hard one though. Give it a try and tell me what you think. Or you could always modify a paintball grenade to work with the silver nitrate. One last option - you could take a standard frag grenade, and case it with silver or silver plating. Of course, that would be dangerous to everybody."
Assington
22-12-2003, 13:58
The officer nodded.

"That sounds like it could work. I'll probably just use air to push it out. It may take a while to get the right pressure though. By the way, I'm Jack."

The officer extended his hand toward Liao.

Santeria looked at him questioningly.

"I have experience, but no training. I never worked for the police or the military, but I have been called upon to do "tasks" for them."

She shuffled a bit and looked up, a smiling reforming on her face.

"So, tell me more about the job. I only heard hushed whispers and bits of information, but I would like to know more about what I am up against."

Santeria always liked to know the full details of her job description. She always felt that it was best for her to be fully prepared to take on whatever task called to her. Hence, she asked many questions.

OOC:
I will just get this out of the way now, so there is no confusion about Santeria. Santeria is a slayer, protector of the human realm. She loves people and will fight even her best friend if they threaten any human. Hence, vampires threatening people out of order, calls her attention.

"John Liao. I'm on loan from the Quin aen Land Marine Corps. Good to meet you. It looks like I'll spend a lot of time in the armory, so maybe we can sit down together and compare notes sometime. Alright, I'd better go take care of my guns. See you around."

With a smile and a wave, Liao was off.

Back in the barracks, Liao pulled his M14 from out of the opened rifle case. It had a fiberglas black stock, scratched from years of use. He picked up some spare magazines and started loading some of the current silver ammounition. It would take some time for the new stuff to come in, so until then the rifle would have to take the normal local ammo. After loading the magazines, he quickly disassembled the M14, and cleaned and oiled it. He did the same with his shotgun and his pistol. After finishing both, he lay down on his bed. It had been a long day, with the jetlag and all, and he needed a nap.

Outside of the anti-vampire league headquarters, a strange figure approaches. He looks reptillian, yet walks like a human. A pair of strange fins arch backwards across his head, much like large ears. The figure wears rough, homespun garments, brown in color, and a cuirass of netch leather, with a tattered white scarf around his neck. The scarf is brown with dust from long days of travel. Outside of the scarf is a necklace of vampire fangs, around sixteen total. His clawed hands are concealed in a pair of guantlets of the same material as the cuirass. On his back hangs a single katana, finely crafted from steel and inlaid with silver along the edge of the blade. A simple dagger made from steel is thrust through his belt, and a pair of wooden stakes, which are carved from Argonian Blackwood, are strapped to the inside of his left forearm.

He is young by Argonian standards, around seventy-five years old. His eyes gleam with anticipation as he enters the building, hoping to add another set of vampire fangs to his small collection.

OOC: This fellow is a vampire hunter from the Black Marsh, and somewhat of a novice in the craft. His name is Arakesh Quickclaw, from the Elder Family Quickclaw, which is renouned for its martial art, the Infinite Mystical Claw style. Hondur and Skadi continued to move silently through the streets. Suddenly they were approached by several mean looking men. All with a clear intent across their faces.

"Filthy scum. You shall pay for what you do to our kind."

They all withdrew silver edged blades, the AVO symbol noticable upon the blades.

Skadi tilted her head slightly as she observed the man threatening her. She sighed. Humans could never perceive the age of a vampire, and so many got themselves into trouble they could not escape. She had no sympathy for such people.

In one fluid movement, Skadi moved forward, ripped the blade from the man's grasp, turned it around and lodged it into his throat. All this happened at a speed too fast for the others to react. They stood there in mute shock as their leader collapsed to the ground.

Before anything could be done, Skadi moved around the group, breaking necks and slaughtering her attackers with their own weapons. Within minutes it was over. Hondur stood there in mute shock once again. Out of all the time he had spent with Skadi, he had never witnessed her acting like this. He could feel the anger she posessed.

Garm cleaned himself off and found Osiris sharpening more blades. Osiris prefered the blade over the gun. Garm didn't completely understand why, but it didn't matter as Osiris was effective with the weapon.

The man walked out of the grocery store, glanced carefully around, rather nervous from the increase in attacks from some of the vampires that roamed the city. However, he had his weapons of choice with him. It wasn't safe anymore to venture out into the world carefree. It wasn't like the old days anymore. Those days had been brutally buried in the fields of history.

A group of children stood near the entrance to the store, and one called out, "Hey Maximus, you wanna buy today's paper?"

"Sure Johnny," was the reply, as always, and the money soon came out and was handed to a boy who had lost an arm a few years ago in a brutal attack orchastrated by the AVO. The bastards had mistakenly thought Johnny to be one of the blood-thirsty demons and would have killed him if it hadn't been for Maximus's arrival. In rage, Maximus had killed two of the men in a swift combination of his silver sword and martial arts, and scattered the remaining men in fear.

A few minutes later, Maximus had walked down the street and headed home. Suddenly, he stopped, his eyes darting abnormally around, as his mind clenched him in a psychic display of the brutal and swift death of his beloved wife last year. She had been snatched from his side, sucked dry and the carcass thrown back at him, before he realized what had happened, and had run breakneck speed for his apartment, barely escaping with his life. That was the day he vowed to hunt the killer, and avenge his wife and satisfy his own grief. Justice had to come.

The episode passed, the sounds of the flashback still echoing strongly in his ears. That's when he heard it, a slight hiss, coming from the alley next to him. Drawing his sword, he stepped quietly into the alley, senses alert...
Assington
13-01-2004, 17:14
Skadi sat within the alley, depressed. Hondur and her had argued mentally for the last hour. He hated her for what she said and did, and now he was gone. He had simply said don't expect to see him again. And now she was alone, again....... she could sense a man nearby, at the entrance of the alley.
________________

Hondur brooded. He had engaged in a major fight with Skadi. He had said things he didn't mean. And now she had blocked herself off to him. But then his rage returned. He didn't need her. He was a vampire, he was as immortal. Hondur didn't notice the AVO gang watching him.
Tarlachia
13-01-2004, 17:33
Maximus continued further into the dark abyss of the alley, sword slightly gleaming in the sunlight of the setting day. He had definitely heard a hiss, one that was characteristic of a vampire. If he saw one, he would use all his strength to kill the vampire, in an effort he knew would be a futile attempt at avenging his wife's death.

The hairs on the back of his neck began to stand up, a phenomenon that Maximus had learned over the years to trust. Yes, someone, something was watching him, but where? Where were they hiding? Over the past year, he had gained a knack for having the ability to sneak up upon and mortally kill unsuspecting vampires. But something was wrong here, no....something was going to go wrong. Maximus hated that thought, and shoved it to the back of his mind.

He continued further into the the dark alley, ever so alert...

Santeria nodded.

"I understand sir. I will only stop those who break the laws. Thank you."

She turned kindly and left the building instead of heading toward the armoury. She walked along the streets slowly and headed to her car, where inside she routed around. Finally, under the seat of the passenger, she pulled out a long sheathed sword. She dug again and struggled as she pulled out a pair small silver automatic pistols. She knew they would not be good against vampires, but she carried them regardless.

Again she struggled. This time with great effort, huffing and grumbling. She panted and searched, and pulled. With a great heave, she landed herself upon the ground, her pistols landing behind her.

"Uf......got it," she said as she stood up, rubbing her hip with one hand while in the other she held a bottle of water.

"Ready now," she said to herself as she picked up her pistols and placed them in their holsters. She walked along the streets playing with her bottle of Dasani water, watching all the people, waiting for the oppurtune movie. She had on her, her cell phone. If someone needed to contact her at head quarters, they would be able to for she made note that she left her number on the papers she previously filled out.

A cheap alarm clock started buzzing next to Liao's head half an hour after he fell asleep.

"Graah" he moaned as he felt for the off switch. He had been so tired that he fell asleep fully dressed and on top of his blanket, with even his boots still on. But within seconds, he was making his bed and had already readied and holstered his pistol. Maximus heard the feminine voice, quiet but powerful in its tone. A deep chill ran down his spine as he heard the threatening words from the unseen voice.

Contemplating on these words, he deemed the female to be negotiable, perhaps, he could get some answers finally. Looking around, he finally caught the faint gleam of the vampire's eyes, several meters above him, glaring at him. Such cold eyes. Maximus had not seen eyes that were as fearsome as those he saw now in other vampires. Fear flooded him, but he forced it away, controlling every move.

"Show yourself, I know you're a vampire! I wish to ask you a question."

And to prove his word, he did a most surprising move. He dropped his sword, and stepped back several feet. He was now completely unarmed, and at the mercy of the creature of the night. He hoped to God that he would live the encounter.

The sword lay in front of him, not too far out of reach, but would be difficult to obtain, due to vampires' superhuman ability at speed. As the AVO closed in on Hondur, he noticed their presence. He had been so concerned with his mental argument against Skadi that he had barely noticed them. At least twenty of the armed men stood around him, malice spread across all their faces.

"I seek to avenge the wrongful death of my wife one year ago. I ask if you know of the killer? I know it was one of you bastards. My life has been completely torn and destroyed by this atrocious act, and there can be no relief, except avengment. Come to think of it, I do not think that this life is repairable anymore..."

And with that, the man lowered his head, as the emotions rocked his body. "No, I cannot let down my guard now!", he thought angrily at himself. After composing himself, he faced the creature once again, waiting for a response.

"You're right...I'm sorry...I should not have asked such a stupid question as that. I just became so inflamed over the last year over my wife's death. I have lost purpose in life, but to trudge along day by day, living out the days of my life. I shall not bother you anymore."

And with that, he started toward his sword, to retrieve and sheath it, sensing no immediate danger from the vampire. Fate had smiled on him tonight.

She leapt from the wall and landed on the sword, snapping it in two places with her boots.

"You have been chosen."

Just as his dagger was about to plunge into the vampire's side, he stopped, a single thought lodged in his mind: he had been chosen. For what he wondered? Santeria opened her bottle of water, slowly taking a long sip. She looks around; the sky is dark and the few star that are shining are barely seen through the lights of the city at night.

She did not know her way around the city yet, but it due time, she would figure it out. Her mind was set on her mission, unaware of the potential danger she would later face.

Right now, she resolved in settling for a drink. She nonchalantly walked down the streets of the city until she came to a place where there seemed to be a lot of commotion, probably none the less then some night club.

"This will do," she said to herself as she walked toward the anxious crowd awaiting to enter. The place required ID...this was not good for her. She only carried her national ID, informing of her position in her government, which is never something she prided herself in showing, and also her driver's license, which was not of this nation, which means she was most likely illegally driving, if the rules were the same. Feeling out of luck, she walked around the streets, coming to more spread out houses. She figured, she was rounding the end of the city limits.

Santeria stopped and looked up to the sky. There were less lights here, making the stars easier to see. She could clearly make out one bright star in front of her, but that was about it. Even the moon was shielded from her view. She slowly paced down the street, taking mild interest in anything. It was her first day on the job, and she wondered if anything would happen.

A cold chill ran up her spine at that thought. It was quite an eerie night now that she thought about it. She disregarded it though and continued on.

OOC: Looks good so far... mind if I join in? If you do, feel free to ignore.

An Utterly Madman in his late thirties is standing at the door to the VP HQ. He has been for some time. He looks around wearily. Eventually, he decides to walk in through the door. He has to get a job somewhere, and his military background made the choice obvious. So he walks in, and over to the reception desk. "Could you tell me where to go for recruitment please?"

Max watched as Skadi stood up, and continued to look at him.

The tomb was silent, as she beckoned, and spoke to him, but not by mouth.

"Your journey beyond death begins with me, take my hand and you shall see."

Completely caught off guard, Max stared at her, then walked to her side, facing out toward the night. "We can talk telepathically!" Max thought, amazed at the ability.

OOC: I don't think that would be a bad idea, but the final decision rests with Assington. If Assington approves, I think it would be a good idea to have you as a sort of representative for the vampires not affiliated through Skadi (Assington's main character). I think this would help flesh out our little RPG here. What do you think?

Maximus was hungry, really hungry. His thoughts were centered on the sweet quenching blood that had now replaced his diet of human food. He followed Skadi as they searched the city for tonight's unlucky soul. He had at first been apprehensive of his new state, but being the adaptive person...being that he was, he quickly overcame it, and began to indulge himself in experimenting with his senses and abilities. He was right to trust Skadi, and for the first time in a long time, Maximus felt that he had found a purpose, to serve Skadi.

OOC: This charecter is in another thread, so may be familiar to some.

Driretlan coughed, and coughed, and coughed...

He pulled his hand away from his mouth, and grimaced. There was traces of blood, on his hand. Ironic, a vampire bleeding himself dry. Drirelan laughed at his own dark humour.

There was nothing more that Driretlan took pleasure in. As he looked out the tinted window of his Mark II stretch limo, he felt every bit of his 500 years.

"Sir, we're almost there. Do you still want to go through with this?"

"Yes, Garrien. Now hurry. I do not have much time left..."

Driretlan felt the limo pick up speed as he went back to his thoughts. He, finally leader of the Hyraphore, and with what to show for it? Splintered ranks, in-fighting and bitter rivalries springing up every day. His guild now listed less than 250 vampires, with numbers waning everyday. He had to bring new blood to the fold, and if he had to do it himself, so be it.

He coughed again, and sighed. No blood this time, but no escaping the truth. His vampires were not the only thing waning. Ironically, Driretlan was dying of a rare form of Basal Cell Carcinoma: SUN Cancer. It had spread rapidly through his body, and he had but months to live. It appears that he was not as hardy as some of the newer ranks were.

The limo slowed to a stop, and Garrien lowered the glass partition.

"Sir, do you want me to come with you. I don't know if this is such a good idea."

"Nonsense, Garrien. I'll be fine. I may be 500, but I still know how to handle myself on the streets."

Driretlan shoved aside his long black trench coat to reveal two shoulder holsters, each holding a Desert Eagle .50 AE handgun.

"As well, I will be carrying this." Driretlan lifts a small sword out from underneath his seat and slips it in its sheath on his back. It is the "Upir", his personal short sword crafted from the finest Rittersteel. "Do not worry for me. My cause is just and neccesary. No go, before you are found out."

As Garrien and the limo sped away, back to the guild, Driretlan turned and looked at his surroundings.

The Emerald City of Assington. Driretlen had heard so much about the place where vampires roamed freely. He of course had also heard of the great conflicts between the AVO, the AGVO and the VP. All was absolutely fine for him, he was here to recruit, not fight. The confusion would make his job easier.

The Alucarde pendant around his neck was pulsing, which meant that there were definately more of his kinsmen in the vincinity. Kinsmen to recruit for the Hyraphore.

However, wherever there were vampires, there were hunters. Driretlan drew out the Upir and hurried down the street. It was dark now, and he did not have to worry about being discreet.

Driretlan coughed, and he sighed. Not much more time...

Maximus had given his daggers to Skadi, as she had ordered him to earlier. She had wanted him to truly learn the skills of a vampire, to employ the dark gifts of their immortal beings to the fullest extent. What she had done with the daggers, Maximus did not know, but hoped that she had not destroyed them, as she had swiftly done with his silver sword. It was the same sword passed down the line of his mortal descendents. The same sword that had been used in the wars of a far away land called Middle Earth, the sword known as Narsil. In those days, the sword had been used to defeat the Dark lord Sauron.

Maximus chuckled, as he thought of the sword's previous owners, and of himself now. Good versus evil, it had always been....until now. Now the sword was useless, it's forgers long dead. It would be impossible to find another swordsmith to reforge the sword a second time to the same quality and care that had been given it, just before the final defeat of Sauron years after the first war.

Now, all that remained of those honorable ancestors were the Elven-crafted silver daggers. It was because of their significance that Maximus hoped that they had not been destroyed by his new elder. Besides, even daggers could be put to good use in the already deadly hands of a vampire.

Maximus glanced at Skadi, admiring the beautiful features that adorned her face, the slick black hair waving slightly in the night breeze. He wondered if she could read his thoughts as well as communicate with him telepathically...
15-01-2004, 10:39
The Utterly Madman decided, after discovering the rules of engagement for the VP, that the VP was not for him. But he still wanted to find some sort of work that involved using what he had learned in the Utterly Mad military. Then he remembered rumours of a group known as the anti-vampire organisation. So he followed the route that he had been told to take, by the same people who made up the rumours, and found himself in a building, guarded by men carrying FN P90s. So he raised his hands.
"I understand you good people have a vampire problem."

After seeing the reaction of the guards, he quickly asks, "Could you tell me where I go for recruitment, please?"

Maximus continued along Skadi's side, prowling the night.

A newspaper fluttered, caught air, and was snatched by Maximus in mid-air. His eyes, which were no longer the eyes of humans, scanned the headlines, and noticed halfway down a police report of his disappearance. Someone had found his wallet on the edge of the alley and his groceries. The police were searching for a dead body, believing that Maximus has been drained, especially considering the amount of blood that covered the ground and wall where he had apparently struggled against his attacker.

"Heh, they actually do care what happens to the common man." Maximus thought.

Maximus threw the paper down, and turned his eyes toward Skadi.

"So, tell me some more about yourself. When and how did your new life begin?"

Driretlen continued on faster. The Alucarde pendant glowed brighter, and told him that there were two vampires up ahead. What luck! Perhaps his recruiting was not going to be as difficult as Garrien had thought.

The guild leader saw the two shadowy figures illuminated by the lone streelamp.

"You two. Stop..." Maximus and Skadi turn around and stare at the newcomer. "Or do you not recognize you brethren in the dark?"

Driretlen bared his fangs...

Bretheren? Maximus wondered, Doesn't seem to be related to Skadi and I though. Better be careful, might be one of the other vampires who were foolish in their decisions. Either way, Skadi seems quite powerful herself, and should be capable of defending both of us if necessary. I fear I am not strong enough.

Maximus smelled a stench he knew all too well, the stench of illness. It seemed to be coming from the intrusive vampire.

Maximus was the first to speak, "What do you want of us, stranger?" He had dealt in some verbal communications with past vampires, in the days of being a mortal, and knew of ways to diffuse situations. But he wasn't perfect. Hopefully, with Skadi's help, the two of them could forge a peaceful discussion with the sickly vampire.

Maximus watched the sickly vampire, waiting for his reaction. Skadi had, in a way, declared her dominance as an elder over him to the stranger. Maximus hoped that this would not offend the stranger, he did not want to see bloodshed between vampires tonight, but if it came to that, too bad. Skadi was, no doubt, in much better physical shape than the male, and would have that as an advantage.

Maximus shifted his feet, positioning himself in case something drastic occured.

Maximus was surprised to see the wound heal almost instantaneously.

Suddenly, the man noticed something, and began to call out.

"Lad, ya got a couple of bucks for a poor, hardworkin' Irish man?"

Maximus halted hesistatingly, glanced back toward Skadi, unsure of what to do now that the man had seen him. He should have been more stealthy in his movements, that he knew. A quick wave of her hand encouraged him on.

Baring his fangs, Maximus hissed and sprung upon the helpless drunk, startling the man:

"Whaaa?? 'Ey you rogue, you scoundrel! Lay thy manacles off......"

Maximus plunged his fangs into the man; ignoring the powerful stench; drawing out his blood rapidly. The the man went silent, he was in shock. The warm dark liquid coursed through Maximus's body, instantly sending a wave of energy and strength into his muscles, and quelling the strong hunger he had been experiencing. Ahhh....just what I needNothing had ever felt as wonderful as this. After a few minutes of feeding, he finished, cast the corpse aside, and faced Skadi once more. "Is there anything else you wish to teach me, master?"

Vampiric blood is combustable, so stay away from fire. Then there is silver. There are two ways silver can kill us. Beheading by a silver blade or a silver bullet to the brain. Besides that, silver will harm us and slow or prevent our healing. It is time to test your strength."

Maximus watched as Skadi demonstrated what she wanted him to do. This is nuts! Does she actually think that I, a mere vampire only hours old, am able to do the same thing up a flat wall 50 feet up to the roof?? .....Only one way to find out...

He glanced up at Skadi, who nodded to him to begin. He nodded back, and focused his energy into his legs, bending slightly.

A few seconds later, Maximus shot toward the roof....40....30....20....10 feet from the roof, before he began to fall back toward the earth. Instinctively he reached out toward the wall. He recieved another shock. His hands were literally holding him with ease to the wall, as if gravity had no effect. Incredulous, he looked up at Skadi, who was peering over the edge, critically watching his every move.

What to do now? Fall or crawl downward? Maximus decided to test his physical endurance and pushed off the wall, falling toward the earth. He landed with ease, quite like a cat does when falling. This was his second shock of the lesson. He had fallen 40 feet and had not even been injured!!

"I must get it this time." Maximus whispered under his breath. He could not disappoint his master, she seemed to be of little patience. Her small abundance of patience seemed to have been a side-effect of living the unknown years of her life.

Once again, Maximus focused, squared off to the wall and rocketed toward Skadi. This time he landed, a little clumsily, next to her, only a few feet from the edge. He smiled at Skadi. He was enjoying discovering his new capabilities. He had earlier noted the sharp increase in hearing range, sight and smell. His already decent psychic characteristics were also enhanced.

"I have done as you wish, master. I have several questions to ask of you though. They pertain to our abilities. One, are we capable of flight, and two, Can we read the thoughts of mortals?"

Skadi smiled.

"You learn quickly. Very good. As you have noticed, we do have the strength to defy gravity. Indeed our kind can fly. But it takes many years to be strong enough to do so. One thing you will notice over your new life is that you grow stronger with every year, every victim. As for our mental powers. You are able to read the minds of mortals and immortals alike. Unless they shield their minds from your presence. You should also know, we own the power of telekinesis."

Skadi eyed a puddle of water and caused it to flow through the air, toward Maximus.

The AVO boss nodded.

"You make valid points. As you do not seem the kind to work for the VP, I shall place some sort of trust in you. You will be informed of the entry password and have access to our armoury. I hope to see good results from your presence here."

Maximus watched as Skadi expertly manipulated the puddle of water through the air, until it stopped above his head.

Maximus' eyes widened as he realized what Skadi was about to do.

"You dare not!"

Skadi released her grip on the water, and laughed as Maximus was drenched.

"You find this funny?" Maximus demanded, weakly feigning seriousness, before he burst into laughter himself. Skadi and he had begun a relationship that would last a long time. Of that he was sure.

Skadi smiled as the water fell upon Maximus. The small smile lit up her face, displaying her eternal beauty. She knew she would not be alone whilst Maximus was around.

"Why don't you give it a go?"

She flicked a little more water toward Maximus.

Maximus let the water hit him, then focused deeply on another puddle, and slowly the molecules bound together into a shimmering orb, rose up off the surface, and stopped briefly.

Maximus laughed as he saw Skadi's surprised look at his ability to manipulate this skill already.

The orb suddenly hurtled toward Skadi, and caught her smack in the face.

Water dripping off her, the sheen highlighting her features in the moonlight, Skadi laughed and ruffled up Maximus's hair. Maximus could tell she enjoyed his company, and he enjoyed hers. She was indeed beautiful, and the water only magnified her beauty. He could just love this person forever, and the irony? Both could also live forever!

Skadi answered some more questions about fighting methods, with humans, and with other vampires. Maximus told her of his skills as a triple black belt in martial arts as a human, which she took, quite interested.

"So what now?" Maximus asked after the two of them had some more fun using their telekinetic powers on each other. The sat on one of the abutting structures near the edge of the roof, gazing out toward the dark and sleeping city. The wind whistled by softly, slightly chilling the two covered in water. The moon was high in the partially cloudy sky, reflecting the light of the sun, the feared enemy of the skies.
Maximus sung softly a song of a human musical band he had heard years ago, as a teen back in his home country of Tarlachia:

(Halfway through the song, his voice formed the syllables of the song.) Finally the wind stops, the words becoming discernable:

"Am I hiding, in the shadows, Forget the pain and forget the sorrows... But I know I must go on. Although I hurt I must be strong, because inside I know that many feel this way..."

The boss nodded.

"You are certainly qualified. I shall give you a chance. As the night is almost over, you may rest here. But I want to see good things from you tomorrow."

The boss arose and left the room, heading into the underground chambers of the HQ. He finally reached a room, sealed by a massive steal door. He keyed in a rather long code and passed through the now open door.

The room was circular and reeked of death. It was completely lit up by neon lights. In the middle of the room, hung a limp, beaten figure. Chained to the roof by his wrists, Hondur hung in tortured silence. And now another was in the room.

The boss moved toward the silent vampire, withdrawing two silver daggers.

"Ah, so this is the infamous Hondur, fledgeling of the elder Skadi. My my, you are a passive one aren't you?"

Boss ran the tip of a silver blade down the bear chest of Hondur. The reponse was a slight flinch. Boss knew it was burning Hondur, he dug the blade deeper. For his efforts, he recieved a low grunt of agony.

Hondur looked down at the boss and spat blood at him.

"I won't help you."

For the next hour, all that could be heard within the passages of the underground part of AVO HQ were the screams of pain flowing from Hondur.

Skadi sat next to Maximus, enjoying the moment.

"Well, you must learn to gaurd your mind. Our enemies may not be immortal, but many mortals do have great psychic ability. You need to be ready to combat such. Once you have mastered that, I suggest we slumber as day is near."
19-01-2004, 14:48
The Utterly Madman was in his new sleeping quarters, sleeping through what was left of the night. The screaming didn't bother him; why should it? He'd heard and seen worse in many interrogations during his career as a soldier. About an hour after dawn, he wakes up, and waits for sounds of activity in the dorms before leaving the room. When he leaves the room, he starts be entering the mess hall. He gets a fry-up, eats it quietly, and heads to the armoury. Seeing the large amount of weaponry, he seems fairly impressed. So he goes to the person in charge of the armoury, and asks for an FN Five-seveN pistol to fire a few practice rounds with. All in all, a mostly normal day for him thus far.

OOC: this is just how he would normally spend the day. Whatever happens on the way to or in the armoury, or in the mess hall, to interrupt or prevent this, happens.

The two men were rather large and unappealing to the eye.

"The name's John Michaels." He presses the button to recall the target from 50m. The five 5.7mm bullet holes are all within the head of the cardboard humanoid-shaped target. He noticed a slight difference in the handling of the gun, perhaps due to the different ammunition used. "And you are?"

Maximus nodded. He had had experience doing this before, as a mortal. This shouldn't be too hard. he thought.

"Ok, I've done this before, but let's give it a try."

With that, Maximus thought of the name of the sword Skadi had destroyed. He expertly froze his face, revealing nothing as clues to his thoughts, and closed off his mind from Skadi. He could feel her psychic powers attempting to probe the dark recesses of his mind, but all she could see was darkness.

"I cannot read what you are thinking. Very good my fledgling, you will do well with this." came the response from Skadi. "Now let's try some more times."

For the next several times, Skadi worked hard to break Maximus's defenses, but in the end, she failed. She was pleased. Maximus was much much better at this than Hondur.

After completing the tests, the two stood and faced the East. The sky reluctantly had made way for the coming sunlight. The sky was a myriad of colors, black, purple, dark blue, blue. The sun was beginning to rise, it was time to hide.

"I've got an apartment not far from here we can remain at for the day."

Skadi nodded. This would work. She followed him over some more roof tops, heading North for 4 blocks, before they jumped back down to the cold earth below. She followed him through the front door, up the stairs and into room 305. Maximus unlocked the door, grabbed a "Do Not Disturb" sign from the table next to the door and hung it on the doorknob, and closed the door once they were both in. The twin deadbolts slid into place, followed shortly by the other three locks on the door. He had personally installed this security after his wife was murdered, so as to ensure his safety from his unseen enemies.

His wife...the thoughts of her floated through his mind, but Maximus was surprised to find that he was no longer terribly pained by her loss. She had, in the end, perhaps gotten the better way out of this world. It was time to lay her memory to rest.

Maximus walked to the closet and began to pull out several heavy blankets, which he carried to the windows, and covered them with. Skadi found some duct tape and helped him seal off the edges of the windows. The apartment lay in complete darkness, but the two could see just fine.

"I'm afraid that I've only got one bed, so we'll have to share. It's a decent size though, a king sized."

Finally, he saw them sit down and talk. Driretlen did not mean to overhearm but with his hearing, it is hard not too.

"Our enemies may not be immortal, but many mortals do have great psychic ability. You need to be ready to combat such."

As Driretlen heard the simple words from Skadi, he scowled and rubbed his pale cheek. His was a mission, that unless completed soon, meant no more battles, or combats.

Driretlen turned around and fled stealthily across the rooftop. He silently wished Maximus and Skadi good luck. He knew that with uck, he would see them again.

He opened the fridge, the bright blast of light searing his eyes. "AHHH, damn it., he cursed, as his hand seached for the lightbulb and unscrewed it. He tossed it into the empty trash can under the sink.

Maximus quickly came back into focus. He opened his eyes. He had been in a deep sleep, thankfully with no more horrific scenes of Skadi's psychic encounter. He glanced over at her, still sleeping next to him, relaxed, with her hair brushed slightly over her face.

"She looks so innocent."

He got up quietly, and walked to the western window, and put his hand on the blanket covering it. It was cool to the touch, the sun had obviously gone down now. Scratching his arm, he walked into the bathroom, and closed the door most of the way. Stripping his clothes off, he glanced at himself in the mirror. His fangs were slightly penetrating the pale reddish-pink lips. He eyes followed the contours of his muscular body, toned strong over the years, training as a martial arts master.

He turned toward the shower, got in, and closed the glass door, and turned on the water to warm. He turned and stood there as the water began to loosen his muscles in his back and neck. After a few minutes of this, he picked up the shampoo and washed his head. This was followed by the soap being lathered all over his body and rinsed off. The showers always felt good, they made Maximus feel as if he were stepping into a brand new body every time.

Several minutes later, he was out of the shower, and was wrapping a towel around himself when the door suddenly swung the rest of the way open.

"Whoa, jeez....Don't freak me like that Skadi!" he exlaimed to an amused Skadi.

After making sure the towel was secure, he turned toward the sink, and began brushing his hair. It wasn't necessary though, because his hair was short, but it had grown into a habit. He turned toward Skadi once again, the water still slinking its way down his muscular frame. She hadn't moved, and had been watching him. Her face had a strange but amused look on her face.

"What the hell is so funny?" he demanded, a little unnerved.

"Oh nothing, nothing at all." she replied mysteriously.

"Whatever...shower's yours if you want to take one."

He watched her move about through the fogged up glass doors for a moment, and then turned towards his closet a few feet away. He ruffled through his clothes, and eventually found what he was looking for. He pulled out his black pants, and black workout shirt. He pulled them onto himself, and pulled out his black hiking boots and his black trenchcoat. He had used these clothes in the past while hunting vampires, but this time, the tables had been turned, he was about to go hunting for an unknown enemy, someone who was injuring a brother of his by vampiric bloodline.

He returned to the bathroom doorway, and began to put on the sheath for his secondary sword, Glamdring, and picked up the two Elven Daggers. He would offer these to Skadi when she got out.

Some of the vampires dared to hiss and bare their fangs at Skadi, angry that she had arrived and disrupted the peace. Skadi simply glared at them, her eyes burning into them. It dawned upon many quickly of what she was. She was an elder, and as such, was not to be trifled with.

Maximus was impressed at the sudden change in behavior, but kept his own face stone-cold. He had quickly picked up some of the actions that Skadi used in her interactions with others.

Skadi stood in front of the so called leaders of the AGVO. All fledgelings. The oldest, perhaps 100 years. Skadi moved around the room, eyeing all vampires.

"I have come to finish this. For ages we have been hated and feared by the people. Ever since these laws were applied, the AVO has openly hunted us in defiance of such laws. It is time we stood firm and eliminated the AVO. Once this is done, we can worry about the government. They are not attempting to kill off our race. "You present an interesting proposition elder. One I am inclined to follow. But I must ask, why are you doing this?"

Skadi thought about Hondur, then pushed him out of her mind.

"I do this, because we have every right to live freely. Humans are not above us, but this is their world. They offer a place in it for us, and so we take it as equals. I will no longer tolerate the prejudice and violence toward our kind that is evident in groups such as the AVO. Are you with me?"

The AVO vampires shielded their minds as they discussed the issue in a mental conversation. Skadi waited quietly.

Drirethlen walked slowly, following the voices of the two vampires. "What was their business here?", he wondered.

The vampires around him gave him a look of disbelief, realizing that he was also an elder. This was rare, to have two elders in the AGVO HQ at the same time. The whispers began, as theories became formulated.

Drirethlen ignored them and walked through the double doors to the office.

"What is going on here?" he demanded to Skadi, and noticed Maximus standing off to the side.

Maximus listened as Skadi skillfully captured the attention of all the vampires at the table. She had been very blunt, her purpose there laid out bluntly.

Maximus studied the faces of the other vampires, when he saw Drirethlen enter the office.

"What is he doing here?" he thought silently, informing Skadi telepathically of his arrival.

Skadi nodded. She had noticed the elder's presence when they arrived. After a few minutes of silence, the oldest AGVO vampire spoke.

"We are agreed. We shall stand behind you in this battle."

The table dispersed, except for the eldest vampire.

"We shall gather all our forces and move them towards the AVO HQ."

Skadi smiled."

"Thankyou. I shall leave now and draw them out of their base. This needs to be a fair fight and not a siege. I shall see you soon."

She spun around on the spot and marched out of the building, Maximus not far behind her.

"That went well."

Maximus followed Skadi back out into the night. She gripped him tightly, and they were off into the night sky once again.

Soon, they dropped quickly to the top of the roof, landing quietly.

"Lead the way, I will follow you wherever you go."

Maximus drew his strong sword, and held it downward. He checked the two Desert Eagles, made sure that the guns were loaded, and put them back into their holsters. He took a deep breath, this was going to be his first large scale fight. He hope that he could prove his worth to Skadi. It would be terrible to perform horribly and lose her favor. He wouldn't know what to do with himself if that happened.

Drirethlen was astounded. Skadi has ignored his presence there, as if he were a mere fledgling. She had nerve, to deny the presence of a fellow elder!

He faced the small assembly of vampires in the office.

"Cough...cough....Would one of you please tell me...cough...what the hell is going on here?" he demanded.

Finally one of the vampires spoke.

"The elder that just left has requested our assistance in making an official stand against the damn AVO. We have agreed to assist her in her quest. In fact, we will need a leader to lead us, and in observance of your status as an elder, we are obliged to ask you first to be that one. Do you accept?"

Drirethlen remained silent, a hurricane of thoughts racing in his mind:

"An all out war...this could prove costly for all."

"She is right. Our kind has been oppressed for too long, despite government intervention. We must stop this."

"How can I use this to recruit for the Hyraphore?"

Drirethlen suffered another onslaught of strong coughing, then replied,

"I shall do it."

The group all began to talk amonst themselves, planning their moves. The fighting would be tonight, and every vampire in the city part of the AGVO would be required. Soon, the room emptied as each went about their business. Drirethlen walked to the door, his Upir still in his hand, as he watched the HQ come quickly to action. He coughed yet again.

"I must hurry, time is moving along..."

After a few more hours on the range, lasting until about 11 AM, John was finally satisfied with the accuracy of his guns. It was a personal rule, one he had broken recently, to never use ammunition in the field he had not thoroughly tested in the range, and he had to rectify that situation.

Finally satisfied with the results of both his rifle and pistol, he was able to put all his rounds through the playing card, shooting any concievable way - single handed, left handed, right handed, from draw, leaning, and even walking fast. Tired, and finally noticing Garm and Osiris had headed off for sleep, he turned towards the barracks for a good day's rest... right after he took care of his weapons. Weapon maintanance was a ritual, a religion for him, like many other soldiers. Sleep would wait. But there was ammunition to be loaded, casing to be cleaned up, and cleaning to be done.

But even that comes to an end, and at noon, John turned in for the day.

OOC: He's a little... singleminded. Just getting ready for the big night. Do the barracks have a weight room and/or a dojo-style place, with padded floors for grappling practicing?

OOC: Yes they do. A weights room and a sparring hall.

IC: Skadi sat upon the edge of the building and looked at Maximus.

"Ok, this is what we do. We must project such a strong mental 'feeling' of the AGVO attacking humans in the next street that the entire AVO members come pouring out and rush over to engage in battle. Of course there will be some left within the building, but that is expected. I want you to keep in contact with that other elder. I assume he'll be helping. We need to time this right or we're screwed."

Maximus nodded.

"I will contact the elder immediately, and see what he is doing."

Skadi watched as he turned toward the direction in which they had come. He lowered his head slightly, and began to seek out the elder.

"Elder.....Elder.....Do you hear me? My name is Maximus....I sense you are still within the AGVO HQ....Your assistance is needed, so says my sire....You must command as many vampires as you can to the street west of the AVO HQ....We will consider you to be in charge of creating such a distraction, so my sire and I can slip inside and complete our true mission."

He lifted his head, satisfied that the elder had recieved his message. He then heard the elder's voice in his mind.

"Understood. We are already coming. We will be there shortly."

Maximus turned toward Skadi, and informed her of what had happened. It was time to start the "hallucinations" of the AVO members. He smiled, the adrenaline rushing through his body rapidly.

Skadi smiled.

"Good work. Let's go."

She closed her eyes as she extended her mental awareness into the minds of the AVO members. First she started with the gaurds. Easily convinced, they ran throughout the complex alerting the others of the AGVO attack on innocent humans just around the block. Skadi and Hondur worked in unison, convincing the humans it was time to meet the vampires in full force.

Skadi smiled as her plan began it's second phase.

Maximus could sense the powerful psychic waves rushing from Skadi downward through the building structure and hammering into the minds of the mortals. He soon heard yelling and crashing about as the humans scurried to arm themselves and run outdoors.

Maximus used his mind to scan the building for the few who were undoubtedly unconvinced or unconcerned with the events going on around them.

"I'm sensing a small number of individuals that will most likely remain inside the building. However, this should help even our odds. I think we can deal with this."

Maximus listened as he began to hear the AVO members begin to run outdoors and head west. Skadi and he remained out of sight.

Maximus turned his head slightly, and using his pyschic abiltities, lifted a few innocent humans from a nearby alley and moved them quickly to the street of distraction. He made sure that these humans' bodies would hit a few objects along the way, just enough to bruise and bloody them, eventually knocking them all unconscious. None of the AVO members saw this, for it had occured in an separate alley leading to the street.

He sensed the AGVO members coming into the area quickly, and turned toward Skadi.

"It has begun..."

Wandering on into a new day, Santeria decided to head back to Head Quarters and see if there was any update.

Aware that they had her number to call her if something were to go amiss, she thought that perhaps it was best to check in periodically.

Finishing her bottle of water, she tossed it into a garabage as she strolled along long unfamiliar streets. She walked briskly, yet with a nonchalant air, that seemed to say, "And your point is...."

Lost in thought, she fell forward onto a car. She completely forgot to watch were she was walking. Coincidently, it was her car, and she smiled that she made her way to a familiar place. Reaching under the back seat of the passenger seat again, she pulled out another bottle of water. Opening it up, she slowly took a sip, taking no notice to anything around her.

She walked to Head Quarters and opened the door.

"I am back. Did I miss anything?"

Driretlen stood in the middle of the melee. All around him were vampires shooting, and hacking away with unchecked animosity. The battle bewteen the AGVO and the AVO had begun.

"If I survive this," Driretlen mused. "Then maybe I can settle down to recruiting again."

Driretlen heard a loud growl come from behind him. Without looking behind, he whipped around his Upir and cleaved the man from shoulder to hip. He bared his bangs. This was the first time in a very long time he had felt alive.

"Attack!, Attack!. Death to the treacherous AVO. Leave no one alive."

As if in response to his battle cry, the streets filled ever more with vampires from both sides. Driretlen looked around at all of his soldiers, and laughed a hoarse, throaty laugh.

In the distance, sirens could be heard.

He could hear the fighting escalate as more vampires and AVO members clashed in a mortal-immortal fusion of pandominium. He smiled, his fangs reflecting the moonlight overhead.

Santeria's jovial smile dropped dramatically as she stared in utter disbelief at the unfolding scene. She had been strolling the street aimlessly, and has completely missed this. It was obvious to anyone that she was new here and did not know the lay abouts of the area.

Amid the chaos, she realized that know was not the time for meandering. She prepared herself mentally for a fight. She had previously physically prepared herself for battle, lest she be taken off guard while wandering the streets, so all she had to do was come back out of her day dreams.

Prepared and armed for battle, she became more serious.

"What now," she thought, not realizing that this was far greater than she had anticipated.

He sheathed his sword and grabbed a few extra clips of ammo for his MP5 and Desert Eagles. Osiris quickly followed, John and Rumil not far behind. As they moved toward the car park, they passed Santeria. Osiris looke back at her.

John was glad he had invested in tritium sights for all his weapons. With a major confrontation at night, he woule be hard-pressed to see otherwise. While the M14 was not the ideal weapon for a large melee, it would have to do until he could get some more silver ammunition. And anybody he shot would go down. He grabbed several flashbangs and convential frag grenades, stuffing them into a vest pocket. The flashbangs would still work well enough outside, particularly at night. Now it was just a matter of not looking that way. After a moment's consideration, he looped the shotgun bandolier around himself and grabbed the shotgun and two mountable flashlights.

In the van, he concetrated on loading and checking his weapons and attaching the flashlights to the shotgun and rifle. However, every now and then, he eyed the new girl curiously. For someone heading into a major firefight, she was remarkebly lightly armed and protected.

"There's some kevlar vests above your head, Miss... whatever your name is. And a MP5 as well. You might need it."
OOC:
John's not carrying all this heavy equipment like others. Just the M14, shotgun on back, 1911, a silver knife, and grenades, and a kevlar vest with ceramic plates. No submachineguns (P90, MP-5). And 1911's hold at most 8 rounds in the magazine, definitely not 21.
