The gunshot was all it took to convince Alexei. He burst inside the store, only to collide directly with Mason in the doorway and then get blown back by the explosion. Scrambling to his feet, he aimed his semi-automatic rifle at the man.

"Who the hell are you?" Alexei said, almost smiling with excitement. Were there others alive?

"My name's Mason."

"What would be a reason for you to be here Mason?"

"I just live here."

Layne the Exile

Layne had been slipping through the alleys for hours, avoiding confrontation whenever possible. So far he had only needed to shoot 4 zombies. Conserving ammunition was important; the .44 revolver he was carrying only had 6 shots, and he only had 1 reload. Still, he was no closer to finding a way out of the city than when he had started his journey.

As he came around a corner thinking about his predicament, Layne nearly slammed right into another man dashing in his direction (Col. Barok). So shocked was he at the sight of another living human, it took him a few seconds to here the groaning, shuffling sound coming from behind the running man that was always the prelude to a zombie attack...

Paul Christianson raised his rifle as he heard the noise.... He followed the noise, leaving the group.... The noise.... "I must follow the noise," Paul thought.... He kept walking toward the noise, rifle drawn....

The noise grew louder.... Now he could see them.... "Them," he thought.... "It's them...." He saw his fellow construction workers, zombified.....

"Hey, Bob," Paul called out to one of the construction workers. The zombies moved toward him. "Okay. I don't think you're still alive." Paul raised his rifle. "I'm sorry," he said as he started shooting them. The crowd of construction worker zombies kept advancing.

Paul eyed a grenade on the ground. He pulled the key and threw the grenade at the zombies. There was a bright flash of light, but the zombies kept advancing. "Oh great," Paul commented. "That's not the kind of grenade I wanted." Paul pulled out his rifle again and kept shooting until he ran out of ammo. "I don't think you'll give me time to reload," he said. Paul kept walking backward away from the advancing zombies.

A zombie got even closer and grabed at Paul. "Bad move," Paul said as he ducked. As Paul got back up on his feet, he swung the rifle at the zombie and its head flew clean off. "That's it!" Paul shouted. "I need to knock off their heads!" He started kicking and punching off zombie heads. The vast majority of the zombie hoarde was still there, however, so Paul ran back to the group, the zombies in persuit....

[OOC: Plot summary. Paul strayed off and ran into a group of construction worker zombies. He fought them for a bit, but retreated because there are too many of them. Now the zombies are chasing Paul as he retreats back to the group of commandos.]

Maj. Brock Mason

Brock was the first to spot it. The large construction worker-he must have slipped off a few moments earlier-was running back towards the group, with a number of zombies on his tail. Brock cursed to himself. The big oaf was going to get them all killed if that was how he was going to conduct himself. He raised his machine gun, hoping he had enough ammunition left in the chain to take out all of the zombies.

"Hit the dirt! NOW!" he bellowed at the lumbering former wrestler in a commanding voice. He was a very accurate shot, but it would be insanity to try and shoot around an unpredictable civilian with a machine gun.

The stoic soldier readied to fire, hoping that Paul had heard him...

Paul dived down to the ground as a soldier shouted something. The zombies were closing in on the group....

Maj. Mason opened fire, bullets tearing through the space that had been occupied by Paul's bulk a fraction of a second earlier. The Barrage of gunfire cut through zombie ranks, well placed shots dropping one, and another, and another, cutting them down like swaths of wheat...

...And Brock's heart sunk when he heard the telltale sound that meant he had run empty. There were still 3 zombies remaining from the group that had followed Paul, and the big man was practically a sitting duck on the ground before them. He didn't know if the rest of the group would react in time, and he didn't have time to load another belt into his gun...

In an uncharacteristically brash move, Maj. Mason quickly drew his saber and combat knife and hurled himself forward into the zombie ranks.

"Quick, get out of here!" he hollered at Paul as he fought.

Whirling blades of death claimed the first zombie, lopping its outstretched fingers off before cutting deep into its neck, just about taking its head off. As he drove his combat knife into the brain of another, the third zombie sank its teeth into the Major's thigh. Brock howled in agony and shook the thing off, then hewed its skull with his saber.

With his enemies dispatched, the Major attempted to rejoin his comrades, but nearly fell. The zombie had bitten deep, and the Major realized then that he would be walking with a limp for the rest of their time in the sunken city; a handicap that could very well prove deadly in such a place. The stoic soldier laughed to himself. Amazing how one rash decision can very well doom a man, he thought.

Alexei gave it nothing more than a glance...the violence having little effect on him anymore...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had been two hours since the occurance with the construction worker zombies and by now the people were possibly more hungry than the fiends seeking them out. However, the metallic building was becoming closer and closer, showing progress, and Alexei would not stop or let anyone else do what their stomachs begged them too. They've had little trouble...minus the normal zombie or two...

Alexei pulled out a candy bar from his pocket, and making sure no one was looking, shoved half in his mouth and half back into his pocket. The chocolate and caramel infused his mind with hope, and a renewed drive to press on. The sky showed rain, so Alexei drove the survivors foward, pausing every now and then to check for the undead...and the colonel.

Alexei looked up at the metallic building they had reached. The sky broke open, and a light drizzle began, slowing growing stronger and more steady.

"I'm sure they'll be something in here. As for us...if I had known...I wouldn't have come...I volunteered for this damn job..."

Alexei smiled a fake smile and entered the building to get out of the rain. The others followed.

It was dark inside, and under the light of the multiple flashlights, the wrecked building seemed haunting in itself. The outside had endured the quake somehow, yet the entrance was not so lucky.

However, Alexei and some others entered a door to an office building. The cubicles were filled with people, working, and not noticing their new visitors.

"Hello!" Alexei said to one, excited, yet the person stood in front of him until he stepped aside. Alexei reached out to touch one, and the thing felt real enough, yet it did not notice his hand upon its shoulder.

Following a gut feeling, Alexei fired a shot into the leg of a worker. The bullet passed right through.

"Holograms..."

"Indeed..." a voice sounded. "They aren't working quite right...but then again they're lucky to still have a power supply."

"Who is that?" multiple people asked, looking around to see where the voice had come from. By now, they were all in the room.

"Ha ha ha ha," the voice laughed menacingly. "I wouldn't worry about it much."

Alexei spun around and dove for the door as it was closing, only to smash into it and fall to the floor. "Fuck," he exclaimed as he got to his feet, holding his gun in his right hand and his right shoulder in his left.

"You want to go back out with the zombies?" the voice said, darker and in a deeper tone. A closet opened, revieling a man rotting in a corner. He slowly rose, stumbling towards the survivors, only to be gunned down and torn apart by multiple weapons. "Quite prepared aren't we? There shouldn't be any more in here. I just couldn't have that one breaking my computers or something."

Looking at a monitor, Alexei slapped it onto the ground and stomped it. The lights flickered and dimmed.

"Aren't we rebellious? Obvious my light and generosity isn't appreciated. I'll talk to you later...if you're still able and wanting to listen..." the voice said, trailing off, and with it the lights...

Flashlights flickered on amongst the group. "Lets split up a bit," Alexei said. "We need to investigate this place more. Report back here in two hours." He noticed a few people moving towards him. "Sorry, I'm heading out alone."

On his own, Alexei exited through the north door, and shut it behind him. He didn't know what he was looking for, nor why he was looking for it alone, but he felt it had to be done. He had two hours, two pistols, two knives, one semi-auto, and too many shells to run dry. Everything except the semi of course, which had seemed to become his weapon of choice as of late.

It was strange. They had been here about a day now, and after all the destruction around him, a place as neat and high tech as this was a shock to his system. He remembered it all, the ride here, the landing, the hotel...

Alexei stopped dead in his tracts. "The Dropship!" he exclaimed in dispair. Had he been that blinded by the mission that he forgot about escaping? He tried to remember himself weighing his options and choosing to go here instead...but he couldn't.

Angered, he turned around, and hit a wall. Had that been there? To his right...a wall. He hadn't payed attention to where he was going. His flashlight flickered and died just as he noticed the stairs.

The lights flickered, turned on, and then turned off. This repeated many times, almost pattern-like. The walls became more and more dingy, the pathways more and more revolting. Medical tools, blood, body parts piled on shelves and in jars...all of these things littered the halls. And then the voice returned...

"Why did you chose this path?"

"Who the hell are you?" Alexei shot back, only for the voice to respond in laughter. "What went on down here?"

"Come now, you're a smart man...what does it look like? Describe it to me."

Alexei paused before he responded. "Experiments. Whoever was down here liked to cut."

"But it goes far, far beyond that...doesn't it?"

"I'm sure it might, why...maybe there's all kinds of experiments here. Maybe this is a lab. Then again...maybe you're just a sick, murdering fuck."

"And that explains the zombies and the sunken city as well?" the voice retorted. "Besides, my work is an art, not random cutting and attaching."

"Your work?" Alexei said, hoping it was a mistake.

"You know nothing, don't try to think...it will only hurt your chances."

"Random cutting and attaching?" Alexei asked.

"You'll learn soon enough..."

"Why shouldn't I think?"

"Because instincts are stronger...more reliable..." the voice said. "Kill and you'll survive..."

"I've seen too much death...and I'm a soldier. Never thought I'd say that..."

"Turn around Alex" the voice said, like a mother softly talking to her child.

"My name's Alexei," Alexei replied. "It's Russian."

"Turn around..." the voice said, trailing off once more. Alex shook his head. The lights turned on and he turned around...

Alexei stared at the vile beast. He felt the candy bar coming up from his stomach. As he threw up his lunch the thing stared at him, then bent over and ate the vomit. Alexei squirmed and looked behind him.

http://www.residentevilfan.ws/largeimages/gallery/remake_set1_lg.jpg

Steps...falling apart with chains and bondage thrown everywhere...but steps none the less. The thing looked up after it had finished its meal and stumbled over towards a drawer. It opened the drawer and threw something to the ground by Alexei. He bent down to pick it up...a picture...of a little girl...

"No..." he reassured himself. "NO..." The fiend roared, but Alexei lit the picture on fire and threw it into the hallway behind the thing. It seemed to cry as it turned to find the picture. When it returned, Alexei overturned the table of knives onto its exposed skull. The beast opened its oversized mouth, and lunged for Alexei.

He held the gun steady and it fired round after round ripping through the things flesh, but it didn't stop, it merely moved slower. Alexei retreated towards the stairs as he tried to reload, but in his haste he dropped the clip down the central area of the stairs. He looked up, only to have the thing knock his semi out of his hand.

He scrambled down the stairs but it followed him, slowly but with short bursts of energy. Not knowing what was below, and acting on instinct, Alexei dumped to the chains in the middle. The thing followed. It opened wide for its meal, but Alexei grabbed the knife he kept on his shoulder and stuck it in the thing's bottom jaw, through its tounge. It howled in pain, giving Alexei enough time to bring out his pistol. He pulled the knife out and shot the jaw off, leaving the monster without a way to eat. Reaching down with his free hand, Alexei clamped a clamp onto the thing's neck and then pushed the chain to one side, swinging the beast by its throat. On its swing back, Alexei pumped it full of pistol shells. He left the knife in its skull for insurance, and swung pack to the steps to continue his decent.

The blood rained down on him when he reached the bottom, covering him in the deep red fluid. He pushed his hair back so that it wouldn't drip in his face, and addressed the voice.

"You said there wouldn't be anymore!" he said angrily. The voice laughed.

"That didn't look like your typical zombie to me..."

"What else would you fuck ing call it?"

"Trash...a beginner's mistake..."

"So it was your's!"

"No. It wasn't."

"Then where the hell is the creator? The sick bastard...that thing was a little girl!"

"Oh he's down here," the voice said. Alexei froze. "Don't worry though...he can't really move."

"Being dead doesn't seem to stop this fucks."

"Oh he's not dead...something happened to his limbs..."

"What?"

"You wouldn't want to know..." the voice said, then laughed.

"So...what next?"

"Remember those agents? Open the door..." the lights focused. "To your upper right."

Greg had split from the group to do some solo searching. In one room, there was a dead body, not a zombie, on the ground. He walked over to it and kicked it over. What have we got here thought Greg. Nearby there was a blood stained folder. He started reading. Subject Number 5969: After being shot with the raw EMP, it showed a fast genetic change. Soon after, its brain power became 15 times more powerful than a human's. After 3 days, it had gather teleconnetic powers. As Greg dropped the folder, he looked at the wall beside him. There was a wall there at one point. It had recently been destroyed. Subject Number 5969 must have gotten out. I need to get out of here.

OOC: You're in what was a NiMBUS office/lab. Being that it is in Tappee (Up for change. If Tappee doesn't come back soon his/her characters will die.) SB has hologram tech, so the holos were used to simulate workers, hiding the true purpose of the building - experiments. If you know or have read anything of NiMBUS's past, this is not Dr. Ackerman's work. They are make-shift, half assed experiments. The extreme magnitism is effecting the holograms...causing them to malfunction.

I'm off to take a shower. When I return, I'll check on Tappee and see if he/she has logged in or not. If not, Tappee's characters will die.

"Alexei!" a woman's voice shouted out. Alexei spun around.

"Emily! What's the matter?"

"Henry's been hurt...please...come now...come on!"

So Alexei followed the woman to where his fellow commando laid on the ground, obviously in immense pain.

"What happened?" Alexei asked Emily.

"I could ask the same thing of you," Henry said back, noticing Alexei's covering of dripping blood. Henry smiled...it looked like it hurt him to do so...

"I'm fine. This..." he whiped some from his face, "...isn't mine."

"He was attacked," Emily said, tears building up in her eyes.

"I was blitzed," Henry explained. "It got me from behind. Grabbed my legs...broke one of them."

"A zombie?" Alexei inquired.

"No...a fiend...the same one that killed that little girl," Henry said, breathing heavily. "It looked...so human..." Emily began to cry.

(Wretch I saw but my character is um... "incapasitated" when he met you so...)

The gray veil began to lift from the coloney's eyes, he began to see where he really was and how much the situation had deteriated...

"F___ing shit," Colonel Juslin Barok called out to the empty office he finds himself in.

He looks around, first at himself finding he is weaponless except for his knife, clutched so tight in his fist it leather handle shreaded the flesh in a few places, and then to the office.

It was in dissary, thought how much was caused by the creatures, him, or whom ever once used it was unimportant, the desk upturned, the chair smashed, papers and utensils strewn about like confettie.

"Ah crap, what the hell happened, one minute I was..." he struggles to recall, "Being captured? No, that can't be right, then how did I end up here alone?"

Then the headache hit and with it flashes of events he knew not he did, the running, the killing, the injuries.

The injuries!

Looking at himself once again, this time searching for wounds.

Mostly grade two lacerations and some level three abrasions, ah hell.

Pulling out his field med kit from his right pant pocket he opens it. Finds the hemoglobin bandaid packets and begins to compress them unto his ozing wounds. Damn lucky no major arteries or veins were hit. he thought. Gotta find something better than this knife, this seems to be an office building, so no guns, an axe for use in fires...And finding the rest of my team, be it alive or dead.

With a new goal in mind he sets out cautiously opening the door and peeking down the hall, poised to strike.

Human skulls littered the room. The stench assured that they were real.

Off in one pile lay the heads of the agents, each decapitated. Some still had their masks on, while others lay broken open, with flesh and brains both eaten.

"Now we're safe," Alexei muttered sarcastically to himself as the monsters from the halls banged on the closed door behind him, almost squeeling in hunger.

"Welcome boys and girls!" The voice announced almost happily, seeming to ignore Henry's comment. "I applaud you for reaching your destination. The dropship that these agents used is directly two stories above this room. You have reached your escape route!"

Alexei looked towards the door at the end of the room. It was swung open, almost beconing them in. They were no longer in the metallic building, he was sure though, but somewhere else...possibly underground...

"Unfortunately, you took the wrong path..."

Screams of protest shot out through the group of survivors, some cursing, some crying. Alexei had anticipated this though. Something evil had went on down here.

"You could have gotten away if you stayed in the building and got to the dropship above ground...but you followed Mr. Ivanova here to your doom."

"So we saw too much, eh?" Alexei said, surprising himself with his calmness.

"Things that went on down here...they give NiMBUS more than just a bad name. These creatures are vile, pathetic, and disgustingly stupid. However, there is one who has the potential to survive...one of my own. Just like you asked for Alex..."

"I've told you, it's Alexei...and bring this beast out. I'll take care of it just like the last one!" Alexei said, reaching deep for confidence. In reality, he was trembling, yet his words still maintained their arrogance of a happier time.

"Oh Alex, you do not know what you strive to kill here. But then again...this creation does need a field test...and I suppose you qualify."

A thing, surprisingly human, appeared at the far end, slamming the door shut. It flickered in and out of visibility until it came upon the group. Raising its arm, it closed its eyes. Alexei suddenly felt his knife tearing through his pants, and suddenly it burst out of them and flew towards the thing. So did his gun, ammo, and dogtag necklace....so did everything and anything else the group had that was metallic. Weaponless, the group of survivors backed into a circle for protection.

"Nice to see you all again," Chris said as he "melted" the metal into a big pile of metallic goo. "Sad we have to meet this way..."

Off in one pile lay the heads of the agents, each decapitated. Some still had their masks on, while others lay broken open, with flesh and brains both eaten.

Weapons gone, Greg felt naked. No where to run, no where to hide. Only a thousand ways to die. He remembered something. Something from the past, long forgotten. Something his Great Uncle had given him. He reached into the inside of the back of his pants. There it was. A knife, completely carved out of ivory. This knife was a ceremonial sacraficial knife for the Aztecz back in the day. Huddled with the other survivors, he stepped out and front. "No more hiding, no more fear, no more anger. It is time to face my demons. This is the only demon in here. A demon from the very depths of Hell itself, sent by the Devil. No more. It ends here. If it kills me, so be it. As long as one of us survives, it is worth it. BRING IT ONNNNNNN!"

They were trapped and there was nothing any of them could do about, except to accept their fate as they had been given it.

She glanced over at Henry who was quickly grabbing things out his backpack. From the look on his face see knew what he was up too. She had been raised in a military family, and knew the military code. Henry was in no condition fight, there was only one option left.

Her eye's grew wide with disbelief "Henry, you aren't doing what I think you are?"

Emily paused for a moment. Henry brought his knife on to his target. "Time to Die, AGAIN!" he could see that Emily had not moved "Timers set now go!"

If Henry was going to give his life then she was going to try her hardest to make sure that it was not invein.

The Chris Monster noticed Paul’s rifle and smiled, ignoring the knife still in his neck. With magnetic force, Chris pulled the rifle towards him, suspending it in mid air. Bending and shaping it into a spear, he thrusted it at Paul. Paul juked to avoid certain death, yet was promptly stabbed through the thigh.

“You son of a bitch,” Alexei rasped. “Why ruin everyone’s memories of you?”

“Hah,” the beast retorted. “You wouldn’t understand. This…this is beauty…you bastards wouldn’t understand. I came here, with my partners Sarah and Adrian, in order to research this place. However, while investigating alone I discovered more than I should have, so Dr. Ackerman made me an offer. He said the city was an experimentation site, and would soon be destroyed. However, the newest version of the ever-evolving Q-virus from NiMBUS did not degenerate it and its host after being shocked by massive magnetic waves like the past versions had. Increasing the frequency did not work either, and only built up too much force in this city, causing it to literally sink closer to the planet’s core. The infected of this city were supposed to degenerate four days ago, exactly when the magnetic beam was fired. Instead, they merely became magnetic themselves. That is when a team from many nations was sent in to investigate what happened to this city. They, you Alexei, and the survivors struggled through the hoards of the undead, as well as NiMBUS operatives, unknowing of what happened here. But it was not supposed to be this way. I was supposed to have an easy path to this building…were Dr. Ackerman was supposed to…”

“You’re dead, Chris,” Alexei said. “Why live a life not above those of the zombies crawling this city?”

“I WASN’T SUPPOSED TO DIE!” Chris said, enraged. He lifted all of the metal in the room and began spinning it around wildly. “I was shot by those stupid operatives because they thought I was infected. Those bastards, if I had been infected I would have died and risen within minutes, thirsty for flesh and blood. No, I had a vaccine to both the waves and the virus, and the infection was localized in my shoulder, slowly being destroyed by the anti-virus. I was left for dead on the streets, and Dr. Ackerman found me, and brought be back. He still gave me the abilities I so deserved, yet they are not to their full potential.” Chris ripped the ivory dagger from his throat. The beauty…the craftmanship…he snapped it into tiny pieces.

http://207.44.246.95/129/44/upload/p350.jpg

Alexei’s eyes darted around the room of bones. Up in the corner was an air vent, soaked in both fresh and dry blood. Could that be an escape rout? Could it simply lead to more terrors? Henry was going to blow himself up for them…could it stall Chris enough for them to crawl to freedom, or death, whatever the vent led to. While there could be life or death in the vent, only one was certain here.

“You…all of you…you’re the reason I’m dead,” Chris continued. “You bastards ruined everything…EVERYTHING! I wanted this more than ANYTHING!” He was breathing heavily, definitely in a rage that he could not get out of. “And what do you want more than anything? HUH? Escape? I see it in your eyes…you think you’re near the end. Well…THE BUTCHER IS OPEN! PLEASE…TAKE A NUMBER!”

And then all the flying metal froze, became jagged, and flew towards the group.

Chris started talking for a while (the above post) and then a bunch of sharp metal objects flew towards the group. It was time to start dodging....

The metal objects flew at the group. Paul had only one choice with his injured leg - he ducked. One sharp piece of metal just missed his head. To Paul's surprise, however, the piece of metal then did a full turn and hit him in the arm. Paul ripped out the piece of metal in anger. There had to be a way to escape, there just had to be....

As the "liquid" metal flew at him and quickly turned into sharp spikes, Alexei defied logic and dove towards Chris. He screamed in pain as the spikes rebounded and drove into his crumpled body, ramming into his back, curled up on the floor. At least one spike had went into everyone.

Chris reached down with his hand, grabbed Alexei by the collar, and lifted him to his feet. The spikes were still circling the rest of the group at speeds that the human eye couldn't follow. Escape would mean the slice of a lifetime.

Chris smiled at the injured man, showered in blood from the experiment in the stairway. "You look dead already."

"There are worse things to be," Alexei replied, wincing at the spikes in his back.

"Like what?" Chris asked. "Death is the end of all things..."

"Death doesn't seem to end anthing, now does it?" Alexei said, a streak of attitude running through his pained voice. "What's worse than death you ask? You, Chris. Bastards like you who molest life and then rape the very lives of others! Mother fuc kers like you who...AHHHH!"

Chris's face grew tense, his anger swelling inside his undead body. Alexei's face became tense as well, quinting his eyes and wincing in pain. The spikes dug deeper into his back, Chris was pulling them through him. Alexei looked off the reflection of a pipe and saw that a spike had cut the explosives from Henry's back and took them to the other side of the room. He clenched his hands, and felt the spikes through both of his palms.

"AHHHHHH!" he screamed in pain and anger, raising his hands, and sticking the spikes through Chris's temples by grabbing the sides of his head. Chris doubled back, pulling the spikes through Alexei's hands, the spikes remaining in his skull. The spikes swirling around group dropped to the ground and Alexei stumbled back to the group, collapsing in front of them, in the bones.

"G-go...through the screen...hurry..." he forced out of his mouth.

"I can't walk, much less climb!" Henry shouted back.

Alexei ripped a spike out of his back, the deep wound gushing blood. Chris did not stop screaming in his inhuman pain. He couldn't get the metal out, his magnetic fields were all distorted. He grabbed the explosives, activated the timer, and threw it back towards the group.

Emily was feverously making her way through the vent, taking a moment she realized that quiet some time had passed since she had left, and yet there still was no explosion. ‘Something wrong she thought to her self’ she wanted to turn back. However, soon came to the realization that such an action would be futile, her only option now was to keep going and try to make it through this.

When they spike had came at Henry dove out of they at the last possible second, but it wasn’t fast enough, the spike had caught his pack and sent it across the room before he had a chance to arm it.

He had heard Alexei call out to him telling him to go with the others, With his injury he knew that was not a possibility. Others in the room where already making their way into the vent, in an attempt to escape the horror.

Chris was being distracted by Alexei and Greg, if they could keep his attention long enough then maybe he would have time to crawl across the room to the bomb. With the other on their way out, they should be out of the blast zone by the time it went off.

As he began his journey across the floor Henry nearly yelled out in pain, his leg was being dragged across the floor, in with each advance towards his target brought more pain. Taking a deep breath Henry thought back to his training at the academy, it would take all that he learned there to help through this. Using his arms to pull him self-forward, he made his way slowly across the floor ignoring all action around him. Nothing else mattered now except getting to the bomb. After what seemed a lifetime he finally made it to his target.

Opening his bag he pulled out the bomb. Henry paused for a moment, sat himself up then leaned against the wall. Expressionless he placed the bomb on his lap, flipped a switch and watched the timer start counting down. “Always wanted to go put with a bang” he said quietly under breath.

Maj. Brock Mason

The monster Ivanova had led them to was hideous, in that it was a violation of human life as the world knows it. It had once been Chris. Brock didn't have long to think about how wrong the monster was, as it tore everything of metal from his body. Both guns, combat knives, his sabre, dog tags...all flew towards the Chris-monster, which seemed to spin them into a ball of liquid metal, which it flung back at the group in a hail of spikes after trading words with Ivanova. The big Wretchan uttered a curse in his tongue and attempted to dodge, though his wounded thigh dramatically reduced his effectiveness.

2 spikes struck the Major, one penetrating his calf, and the other hitting him in the guts. He winced as he hit the ground. Although a realist, he believed he could say that the wounds would not be fatal. If I can get away from that thrice damned creature, he thought. Almost useless now in combat, the Major attempted to retreat to a nearby vent, stumbling or crawling when he fell. He climbed in and crawled on, leaving a trail of blood behind him.

Liquid Nitrogen spilled out of the pipe above the Chris monster, freezing him in his horrific pose. The frigid liquid began engulfing the room, freezing anything it touched. Alexei felt himself being picked up and hurried towards the vent. His eye caught something off in the corner.

Henry sat motionless against a wall, holding the bomb in his lap, with the liquid nitrogen quickly making its way across the bones and towards his injured body. Alexei shouted out for him, but Henry either didn't hear or didn't care. The two giant beasts from the hall burst in to the room finally, scattering bones everywhere. Whoever had been carrying Alexei dropped him, sending him sprawled out on the floor.

Alexei got to his feet, hunched over due to his back, he stumbled over towards Henry.

"Don't be a hero!" Alexei screamed, snatching the bomb with one hand. Henry pulled back.

"You have to take all my fun away?" he asked, not smiling yet still joking around, as always.

"Damnit Henry, we're getting out of here!" Alexei screamed as the liquid nitrogen and the beast were quickly approaching. Alexei took the explosives and threw them towards the locked door that they needed to get to.

"So now we're lunch...how nice of you...I'm sure I won't taste too well..." Henry said, rolling his eyes. The two creatures came upon the two men, standing between them and the door. One, distracted, attempted to eat Chris, and was promptle frozen to death by the liquid nitrogen. The one still alive opened its mouth, just as the explosion went off.

Those in the vent could hear it, possibly even feel the rumble. Alexei opened his eyes, but all he could see was darkness. It was a warm darkness, with a stench like no other. He heard Henry's mufled voice close by.

That fuc king thing is on top of us!

Alexei pulled another spike out of his back, and screaming in pain, stabbed it into the monster and began cutting towards Henry. He got to the man, who had not been able to breath and handed him the bloody spike. Pulling the second to last one of his back and screaming yet again, the two limp men began hacking through the horrific yet dead beast on top of them.

The explosion had pushed Henry hard into the wall knocking the air out his lungs. It took him a moment to get his breath back. To his surprise both him and Alexei were still alive.

Although the bomb had went off they were not out of danger yet, another one of the creatures was upon them. Normally it would have only taken one of them to handle such an opponent but with the injuries it would take their combined strength.

Alexei ripped one of the spikes from his body and handed to Henry. Using it as a crutch Henry got to feet, winching in pain as he stood, but the splint that Emily had made did it’s job.

The creature had knocked Alexei to the ground and was upon him. Putting all his weight on his good foot he swung the spike as if were a bat. Henry was so angry now, the emotions of the cay came up to the surface as uncontrollable anger. The creature was caught off guard by the attack; Henry blow hit it square in the ribs sending it flying back. Screaming in pain the creature diverted its attention to Henry, and began running towards him. Henry tried to adjust his position accordingly, but broken leg caused him to slip a bit. He wasn’t ready when the two made contact but was able to drive the spike into the creatures shoulder.

When he hit the ground Henrys broken leg twisted a bit causing a new surge of pain. Before he had time to react the creature was on top him, it was trying to bit and claw at him. He looked over at Alexei “Could use a little help right about now”

Alexei stumbled over towards the two and kicked the injured monster off the injured man. It seemed not to be able to walk well and crawled backed towards the two survivors left in the room of bones and skulls. Alexei grabbed a bone and with all his strength beat the creature over the head with it.

However "all his strength" was not much anymore and he collapsed beside the monster on the floor. It grabbed his back and the pain from where the spikes had been gave him new life. He clasped his hands around the neck of the monster and began beating its head over and over against the floor.

The monster's eyes rolled back into its head, its tounge hung out of its mouth, and blood starting spraying from its skull, covering Alexei in yet another coat of hot red liquid. Yet Alexei didn't stop, over and over he smashed the head of the thing off the ground, continuously wrestling with the beast who was past the point of agression. By now the liquid nitrogen pipes had frozen, and there was no immediate danger...

"It's dead Alexei," Henry said quietly, but Alexei would not stop. Over and over again...bang...bang...bang... "ALEXEI, IT'S DEAD!"

And so Alexei stopped suddenly, horrified at the thing he was wrapped up in. He kicked it away and tried to roll but the pain in his back stopped him. He looked over at Henry who was still leaning against the wall. Alexei was ashamed...this place...it was destroying them all...

The door that Chris had locked was blown open, reveiling a staircase that neither one of them could easily ascend. Alexei tried to stand, but he couldn't, so he grabbed a thigh bone and used it as a cane to get up. The ground near the door was slippery from the liquid nitrogen, and the frozen Chris and frozen monster were standing still and dead like ice sculptures.

"I have no clue how any of you made it this far," the voice said, seemingly amazed.

"We're better than...these...these nightmares..." Alexei replied, limping his way towards Henry, who was closer to the door with the stairs.

"You look rather nightmarish yourself there Alex," the voice replied, noting the blood, both wet and dry, covering every inch of Alexei. It was also pouring from the deep wounds in his back and his palms, and he knew that he needed to get out soon, for his mind would quickly go the more blood he lost.

"You sick bastard..." Alexei said, wiping his hair, dripping with blood, out of his eyes. "What...what is this? Why are you doing this to us? Why can't we just leave?"

"How can you still not get it? You get out, you tell people about this...and its over...I'm over..." the voice said, calmly.

"I don't...even...know...who you are!" Alexei screamed, bringing himself to tears. The salty liquid streamed down his face, washing streaks clean of blood. "No one would fuc king believe us anyhow," he cried. "They'd call us crazy...and I'm not sure I'm not crazy right now. Please...I'm begging you...let us leave! You said the helo was two stories up...at least let the others make it..."

"They won't, even if I wanted them too. That vent leads down and away from the roof...and towards the dungeon," the voice said. "The dungeon is where they kept the most horrific of the experiments...they won't survive..."

"FU CK YOU! FU CK YOU!" Alexei screamed over and over again, letting go all semblence of civilization and mental stability. "I'M GOING TO FUC KING KILL YOU IF YOU DON'T LET US GO! I'M FUC KING GOING TO KILL YOU, YOU HEAR ME!"

"You poor man...you can go up those steps if you want...but without weapons it'll be worthless. The floor between this one and the roof is filled with zombies. It was the real office building, and all the people are dead."

"I don't believe you," Alexei whispered, looking at Henry.

"What?" the voice asked, showing attitude.

"I don't believe you," Alexei repeated. He lifted up the thigh bone and held it like a club. "I DON'T BELIEVE YOU! YOU'RE A..."

Alexei swung the club at Chris's frozen head, and shattered it onto the floor. On the backswing, he swung down and broke the frozen creature's back.

"...LIAR!"

If we all head up the stairs we would stand a better chance." A smile came across his face "I don't know about you, but I don't have much left"

The group stumbled up the stairs for what seemed like hours. After taking a ten minute break to catch their breaths, they resumed their ascension towards the last floor before the dropship. Readying his bone club, Alexei reached out and grabbed the door handle.

The voltage rushed through him, knocking him back and down the stairs. "NOO!" He shouted out and he caught himself, holding on to a stair. He had fallen at least 15 steps, 15 long, painfull steps. The voice returned.

"Like you care..." Alexei replied. "Open it," he commanded the others, throwing his bone to one of them. Henry took it and smashed it over the handle until the handle broke off. Mason had kicked open the door by the time Alexei had reached the top once more.

Cold, metallic, the room was dark, spare a few windows on the wall high enough that they were touching the ceiling, as if they were in a basement of sorts. The late afternoon light cast shadows against the three men as they looked about the room.

Weapons lockers...

Alexei almost couldn't believe it.

Medical kits...

He had been right. Who ever that voice was, he did not want them in this room, and now Alexei saw why. Guns and ammo hung on the walls as cases with medical supplies and more weapons sat on the tables in the center. Alexei stood up straight, ignoring his back's pleas not to, and opened a weapons case on the table.

http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/gallery/artoftrek/assassin-rifle-st6.jpg

He walked, not limped, over to the wall and tried to grab a rifle, but stumbled and knocked them onto the floor. Bending over, which more than anything hurt his injured and bleeding back, he picked two polaron rifles, two pistols, two knives, and many rounds of ammo off of the floor.

"What are you doing?" The voice asked, but Alexei noticed a difference in how he sounded. The voice was no longer omnious, no longer all around...but centrallized.

"What's wrong?" Alexei asked, looking around the room for a light switch. Mason and Henry were busy tending to their injuries and gathering weapons.

"You shouldn't be in here!"

Alexei spun around and saw the man. Older, sophistocated looking, he appeared shocked to be seen. Holding a polaron rifle in each hand, Alexei unloaded the bolts of energy into the evil man, but to no avail. The round passed right through him, exploding on the opposite wall.

"I'm a hologram," the man who was the voice replied with a smile...a sick, twisted smile. "It's a direct representation of what I'm doing somewhere else. I raise my hand," the voice said, raising his right arm. "The projection moves its hand."

"So you're fake...just an image..."

"Oh no...I can be very real..." the hologram said, moving faster than the speed of light towards Alexei, punching him in the jaw. Alexei flew against the wall, hitting the weapons lockers with his back and then collapsing on the floor. He rubbed his face...nothing broken...no teeth loose...but it definately hurt. Then again, everything hurt right now. "The best part about it is," The man continued. "You can't hurt me..."

Henry could feel the weight lift off his shoulders as they found the weapons cache and the med kits, for the first time in and long while he thought that maybe they might actually get through this.

Grabbing one of the med kits he began attending to his wound. When he feel during his last encounter his leg bone had punctured the skin and was now exposed, this was his primary concern. Carefully he removed the splint that was hold everything together, in order to prevent further damage he would have to set the bone back. Placing a field dressing in his mouth he took deep breath and quickly set the bone back in to place. He bit down hard onto the dressing as he felt more pain then one person should. Once he was sure that the bone was back in place he splinted it back up, there was morphine in the kit but Henry choose to ignore it, he would need to keep his focus.

As he finished he hear the voice come on again, by this time he wasn’t listening to a thing that the voice had to say. However, there was something different about this time, out of the corner of his eye he could make out figure in the corner of his. Alexei fired a number of rounds, but to everyone’s dismay he hit nothing but air. For a moment Henry was relieved, it was only a hologram, but soon watched it horror as the figure connected a blow against Alexei. On any other day something like this would have surprised him, but after everything thing that they had went through in the past little while, there wasn’t much that surprised him.

“You can’t hurt me he” Henry heard the hologram say

“Great now we have a bad guy like the ones you see in some star trek episode” he said sarcastically. Although the comment was intend for humour it got Henry thinking. He began think how they did things like this in Star Trek, and how they always got out of it, then it hit

“In order for you to create a hologram you need projectors” he was thinking out loud for the benefit of the others “Alexei Find the Holographic projectors and take them out. We’ll show this @ss how we can hurt him”

Frantically Henry looked around the room for anything that might resemble a projector. Slamming a clip into the nearest weapon and without hesitation unleashing a hail of bullets in the direction of anything that might resemble a projector.

Now *straightens tie* Wretch, I'm letting you, Tappee, and whoever has characters (a possible RPing chance, eh L.A.O.?) decide how they get out. I already know Alexei's, Mason's, and Henry's ultimate fate, and it's up to the three of us to achieve it. However, the fates of those in the vents is undecided. Frankly, it's up to you guys to determine whether or not the voice was lying about the dungeon. He was lying about what's up the stairs after all. That and I think someone metioned a phychic monster a few pages back who still hasn't been encountered. Just make it realistic.

"That won't do any good," the voice replied, this time to Henry. "You mustn't be accustomed to the technology."

"Oh yeah?" Henry replied, pausing for a second.

"Your choice of weapons is a clear give-a-way," the man responded. "All these polaron rifles...all these "laser guns"...and you pick a projectile weapon. The most you could do is have the bullet bounce off something and have it kill one of your friends here."

Alexei got to his feet and reached for the only other door in the room, undoubtedly leading to the roof, if the holographic man had been telling the truth. "When we get out of here...I'm making sure that bastard company is ruined!"

"Bastard company?" the man asked, as if he was talking to a child.

"NiMBUS! You probably work for them..." Alexei realized. "You fuc kers, all of this...for what? I swear, NiMBUS is going to pay!"

"Such cliches, such promises...how can you be sure that NiMBUS is in fact behind "all of this"?" the man asked, rubbing his chin. "By the testimony of a genetic experiment?"

"Everything...the weapons...the equipment...the doors...they all say NiMBUS on them," Alexei explained, jerking his body with every movement of the projection's, anticipating another violent outbreak.

"Jumpy, are we?" the man asked, laughing. "But you see...now you must understand why you cannot leave...dear boy...I am NiMBUS."

"What do you mean you're NiMBUS?"

"I am Dr. Ackerman, CEO of NiMBUS Biotechnologies...you, a worthless killer, would be my downfall. I cannot have that happen. I'm sure you understand."

Alexei was tired of it all. The very idea sickened him. He could tell, from how the projection said it, that it was true. And since it was true, that man was the leader of NiMBUS, the projection...and this building...would do everything possible to prevent their survival.

The thought of it gave him a headache. He could still feel the wind blowing through his hair as the dropship lowered his team into the sunken city. He remembered his home, his life, his girlfriend. What was she doing right now? How could she possibly understand what he was going through.

Being a man of the military, Alexei was known to rush off at times. His girlfriend didn't seem to quite understand why, or else she was too selfish to. Her whole family was quite well off, and she herself worked for a large company...NiMBUS...

Why had it never occured to him before? Alexei told himself that it didn't matter. His mind was wandering, and he could feel himself losing control. His back didn't hurt anymore, his legs weren't tired any more. He licked his lips...blood.

The taste of death rejuvinated him, brought him back to life. Henry and Mason had been listening to the conversation but now their attention shifted to Alexei, who was only standing due to his arm propping his body up on the table.

"He's losing blood fast," someone said. Alexei couldn't tell who said it. It may have been Mason, Henry, Dr. Ackerman...he hadn't a clue.

He dazed off into another world, and he was with his girlfriend once more. She rambled on about her family as Alexei payed nothing more than lip service to her complains. The scenery around him was nice, flowers blooming off in the distance. They were about to be served a meal, and by the placement of the sun, it seemed about lunch time. Snapping his napkin and placing it on his lap, his girlfriend, Anna, stopped talking as their meal approached, followed by a cake.

A light rain began, pitter-pattering against the roof of the porch, but the scent of the food was relaxing. He looked down on the cake, trying to read what the lit candles spelled out. Glancing up at his girlfriend, who was abundant with joy and happiness, he closed his eyes and blew out the tiny flames all about the cake.

Across the street, he heard a man shout out, "The butcher is in. Please...take a number..." and Alexei froze. The butcher? Had he heard that before? Those around him didn't seem to notice, other than the fact he wasn't paying attention to the celebration devoted to him. "What's this for?" he asked.

"Honey," his girlfriend began. "While you may not think becoming a general is important, the rest of the galaxy would consider that promotion to be an honor." She smiled, putting her hands on Alexei's. A wedding ring? General? Could they be married?

"I beg of you, please take a number!"

The voice startled Alexei, as if the man had been talking to him directly. Now his girlfriend, his wife, was growing impatient.

"We hardly ever get to see you," she began. "The least you can do is pay attention."

Alexei smelled the cake, letting the aroma excite his nostrils, as his stomach growled. He picked off the fork, plastic, and swallowed the chocolate goodness. It was delicious, and it set Alexei's mind at ease once more.

After a while, everyone got up to leave, but Alexei was not done celebrating. He wanted more...he didn't want it to end. His wife kissed him on the head, and they exited through a door that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Holograms? The door shut and disappeared, as Alexei ran to where it had been only to find nothing.

"The butcher is in, please, take a number..."

"SHUTUP!" Alexei screamed, covering his ears. Where had he heard that before? As if sensing the anger, the butcher walked over towards him. The face...it was Chris!

Chris held a bloody cleaver in his hand and a look of hatred and pain in his eyes. Without moving the rest of his body, Chris heaved the knife into the cake. He then seemed frozen once more, and Alexei picked up the knife and stuck it in him, sending blood flying onto the wall.

With the knife splitting his skull, Chris, who was now dressed as a soldier, pulled out a needle and stuck it in his arm and pressed down, injecting him with some sort of liquid. Alexei screamed and ripped the needle out, throwing it across the porch.

He blinked...

...and was back in the weapons locker. He was lying on the table, with a shocked Henry looking over him. Dazed, Alexei blinked his eyes.

"What...what happened..."

"You started to fade in and out, Alexei," Mason said. "We had to stop the bleeding."

"So we gave you a clotting agent," Henry said. "And then a blood transfusion."

"He's still infected," the man said, holding Alexei's hands in his own. Mason and Henry backed away from Alexei. "You're infected...I can still use you..."

"Infected?"

"The magnetic alloy...from Chris...his blood got in the holes in your palms..."

"What?" Alexei shouted, his eyes dimming again.

"Dr. Williams hid that secret from me when he left, among others. I finally found it in Chris...but you hard-headed soldiers killed him. But his blood...it's in you...and that means..."

An explosion went off, as the door to the exit was blown open by Henry and Mason.

"NO!" the man, Dr. Ackerman, said as he turned around, but Henry and Mason had prepared for it and stepped aside. The projection flew out the door and dispersed. It had been internal only. A small pen, with a NiMBUS logo, fell to the floor. Upon further examination, it was the projector, that the holographic representation of Dr. Ackerman carried around in his pocket.

Now, all that was left was the escape...and the others...

...or so it seemed.

OOC: OK, I will try to have both of my characters meet up in this "dungeon" then, facing this telekinetic horror. That should tie up the loose ends... I'm not completely sure who else is in the vent, so I guess whether or not anyone else is coming into the dungeon is up to them...I would ask though, that if anyone else follows my commando that they do not simply blow the monster away instantly. It's kind of important for character/story development that Layne helps Brock out...

Layne the Exile

Layne ran through the alleyways...it seemed he had been doing alot of that lately. He no longer heard the sound of pursuit behind him. He stopped to catch his breath, resting his hands on his knees and breathing deeply.

"When this is over," he mumbled, "I'm going to find a nice bar, drink my face off, and go get laid."

Then he felt something in the back of his mind, and it seemed even less likely that he would have the oppurtunity. Fear. He felt fear, and it paralyzed him. Confused and hardly abled to move, he heard a screech from behind him. The former Wretchan noble managed to turn his head just in time to see a hideous creature leaping down at him before it struck him and his world went black...

Helpless, Layne could barely remember a fragment of the journey he took after he was struck. The creature carried him like a sack of potatoes, back to it's lair beneath a certain building a group of commandoes had entered some time before...

Maj. Brock Mason

Brock had lost track of how long he had been in the vent, and at the moment, it didn't seem to matter. All that mattered was getting away from the monster that had hurt him so badly, the monster that had been the man Chris. He kept moving despite his injuries, driven by will alone. The will to survive.

The Major's focus was interrupted as the section of the vent he was in creaked and gave out with a crash, swinging down and dropping him out onto the floor. He sat up and saw himself looking at a corpse. He scrambled back a moment, until he regained control of himself. It was the body of one of the agents the group had encountered before, and it might have weapons or other tools that would be of use to him. Brock searched the corpse, and found more than he had hoped for: a medical kit, a .50 cal handgun, an assault rifle, and a combat knife, as well as 2 magazines of ammo for the handgun and assault rifle.

"Jackpot," he said with a rare grin, then went to work patching himself up with the med kit. Some of the drugs helped to ease his pain, and his wounds would stop bleeding at least.

Then he actually looked at the agent himself. The man appeared to be a dried husk, as if he had been drained of all his body fluids.

Great, the big Wretchan soldier thought. Just great. I suppose there's some sort of bloodsucker down here, waiting for me...

As if on cue, he heard a terrible howl echo through the dank stone basement-dungeon was a better word, really-and felt himself uncharacteristically afraid. His hands shook as he fumbled with his magazines, preparing for battle...

Layne the Exile

When Layne came to, he realized that he was in a dark, dank, smell stone room, and it appeared to be quite massive. His head hurt like a bastard, and he felt some blood when he touched the spot that the creature had hit. Which reminded him...

Why am I alive? I thought that horrible creature would devour me for sure, or at least kill me for sport... A quick glance around made him realize his fate. Over a dozen corpses littered the corner where he lay, and they all appeared to be dry husks; the fluid had been drained out of them. He heard a slight hiss above him, and looked up.

There it was, hideous beyond all reckoning. Taller than a normal man it was, perhaps 7 feet tall, but sickly gaunt. Its skin was tight and crimson, and covered in blisters. It had arms and legs like a man, with talons at the tips of its fingers and toes. The cranium was large, and seemed to throb from time to time. Its eyes were most unnerving, yellow like a cat's and completely soulless. The lower jaw was remarkably different from a man's, or any mammal; it had two retractable, hollow fangs, like a spider, and Layne could easily enough guess now why all of the bodies were dried out. It crawled down the wall towards him, fangs bared...

And then it stopped. It had sensed something, or so he guessed, and sprang away from the wall with great force, letting out a blood curdling shriek. It had sensed more man-flesh in its domain, and the gluttonous creature could not allow the intruder to leave...

Oh no, Layne thought, debating his course of action. Whoever is out there doesn't stand a prayer. He might be able to escape, if he left now. But could he leave another person to such a horrid fate?

Sighing with resignation, the Exile struggled to his feet and felt around for his pistol...

Henry reached down and picked the pen up “You know after all that he put us through I think that I’m not going to give his pen back.” He said with a grin on his face.

He quickly got a funny look from the others “Hey it probably cost NiMbus a lot of money to make this pen” he said sarcastically. He looked over at Alesei, and handed him the pen “Do what ever you want to do with it, but lets go home”
Steel Butterfly
13-01-2004, 20:29
Alexei looked down at the pen. He was already feeling better. Whatever Mason and Henry had given him worked.

"Infected?" he asked himself. More lies? Could it be the truth? All he could be sure of was that beyond that door was a dropship, and that was what they needed. There used to be so many...now only three...

[OOC: Yes I know there are more people alive]

The colonel, Emily, all of them had an impact on him...as did this whole place...this whole experience. He walked to the door, limping, but able. There was a grated floor, with steps leading up to the roof. The steps were simply attached by bolts to the outside of the building. They were very far up in the air.

"How did we get up here?" Alexei mused. They had went down in the basement after all...yet they were on top of the skyscraper. Nothing made sense anymore...and Alexei had learned to just deal with it.

Mason with his shoulder, Henry with his leg, and Alexei with his back and hands looked at each other, and stepped out onto the ledge right before the steps. Henry commented on if they were to be combined, they would make a whole person, laughing at their injuries, but Alexei ignored him. Any other time, he may have laughed, but there wasn't much to laugh at anymore.

He looked down over the entire city. He could see it all. However, they were on the opposite side of the entrance of the building, so all the familiar places - the hotel, the weapons store - were all hidden behind the massive metallic building. He looked towards the sky and could see the tops of the ledges, still about a hundred or so yards above where they stood. The rain had stopped, and a rainbow parted the clouds, beconing hope. In his heart Alexei smiled, but his body and mind were past that...at least for now...

Mason made his way up the flight of steps first, exclaiming a big "Hell yeah!" as he reached the top. Henry went next, and Alexei would follow close behind, making sure he could catch Henry if the injured man fell. Making it to the top, Henry commented again, and this time Alexei though he heard Mason laugh, but he couldn't be sure.

Strapping his rifles to his back, which was numb with medicine, Alexei slowly made his way up the steps, holding on to the handrails. Then came the sound. The distinct roaring of something Alexei had seen before. He didn't look...didn't need to...and kept ascending the steps.

http://www.residentevilfan.ws/largeimages/gallery/remake_chimera1_lg.jpg

It appeared once more on the platform on the bottom of the stairs. The chain and the metal clamp that Alexei had put around its neck were still attached, the knife was still in its skull, its bottom jaw was still blown off. It reached out with its arms and touched the steps, testing them. In a fit of rage, the thing, which was once a little girl, smashed the bottom of the steps, knocking them loose from the platform.

Alexei shouted as the metal steps dangled from only the upper attachment, the stairs at the bottom falling off. Mason and Henry opened fire on the fiend, but it didn't seem to care. It had completed what it wanted to do. Alexei was going to die.

"Fu ck that thing!" Alexei screamed to his two associates. "Somebody get me up!" Henry ran over to where the stairs were attached to the roof and reached for Alexei, demanding that he give him his hand. Mason emptied his clip into the thing, effectively blowing it to pieces, along with the platform. He then put his weapon on the floor of the roof and ran to help Henry.

A snapping sound was heard and Alexei feared the worse, but the two men did have ahold of his arms. Mason screamed as his shoulder undoubtedly hurt, but the two would not give up. Just as the steps gave way, they lifted Alexei onto the roof, not noticing the two dropship pilots, equally hungry, slowly moving towards them.

Greg woke up, drenched in sweat, blood, and other bodily materials. At first, he thought he was dead. Everything was dark, no sign of life. Slowly, he regained awareness. He had gotten into the vent as the explosion occured. He was lucky. There was a chance the others were killed.

Greg pulled himself through the derelict vent. It seemed to go on for days. Nothing was visable. all he had was his sense of direction, nothing else to guide him. He climbed up a shaft that had a latter in it, only to be senteced to more ventalation. At the end, however, he seen light. It was small, but it might be an exit. He reached the end of the tunnel feet first. With all his miniscule energy, he kicked the grating out. He dropped to the floor on all fours.

What is this place? thought Greg. He looked around. This was the most sterile place he had seen yet. It was some sort of control room. One wall had cameras lined on it. Another had multiple computers. The one to his back was barren. And the wall to his right was only a door.

Greg walked himself over to the computers. He looked at the buttons for a minute, then walked away. Greg went to the door. Locked. This wasn't a good sign. So close, yet so damn far. It was not going to end yet. He ran over to the computer. "Where is the damn override button," he said outloud. "Come to daddy, Mister Override." "There you are." He clicked the lock override button. He heard the doors unlock.

His palms sauteed in sweat, he opened the door. He was getting closer, but the worst was yet to come.

Mason and Alexei looked up just in time to roll aside, however Henry wasn't as lucky. With his hurt let, he couldn't do much before the pilots were on top of him. Pulling out knives, Mason and Alexei jumped the zombies, wrestling them off Henry before they could do any major damage. Mason helped Henry to his feet while Alexei ran to the dropship.

"Clamps?" Alexei thought to himself, noticing the restricters placed on the ship's bottom. "We're locked down!" he shouted to the other two who were busy with the pilots. No response. [OOC: You guys RP that]

Alexei ran towards what appeared to be the control room, hoping for an easy control layout. He wasn't too optomistic though, nothing in this trip had went as planned.

Inside, he saw a video recording that seemed paused. Pressing play, it recorded him. He rewound it and pressed play once more.

"Sir, what is the status of the weapon?" a man in a black leather trench coat asked another man in a white lab coat.

"The beam seems consistant. It appears to be working..."

Then the camera began to shake, before shutting off. It quickly switched to the image that it had recorded of Alexei. Alexei paused it and stared at his face. Exaustion, pain, it all showed in his sad eyes, his face and hair drenched with both wet and dry blood of many others. It couldn't have been him...but yet...the resemblence was uncanny.

"We hardly ever get to see you," the voice of his girlfriend rang through his ears from the dream. "The least you can do is pay attention."

How long had they been here? It couldn't only be the end of the second day. He checked his watch. 1:00 pm, frozen the moment they entered the city. They had been on time. It hadn't been checked or changed since then.

The creeking and self horror of the city were hidden by the impending sunset, which would arrive in a few moments. Alexei smashed the video screen with the butt of his rifle.

Searching the panels, he came across what looked like a master switch. Shaking his head at the simplicity, he looked out the window to the dropship, which hid the fight on the other side of it, and pulled the lever. Slowly, the clamps loosened, until they eventually came off.

"System lockdown override," an automated voice said as lights came on and doors opened throughout the building from hell. The door at the backside of the small control building lifted, reveiling many things, but most importantly the two zombies, who seemed like they hadn't eaten in some time.

Quickly, Alexei turned his rifle around, and aiming for their heads, blew the undead life out from under the two fiends. Staring down at the rotting corpses, he noticed that one had a torn black leather trenchcoat on, and the other a blood stained but white lab coat. The men from the video...

Shaking his head, Alexei exited the room, confident that Henry and Mason had taken care of the pilot zombies...or at least he hoped that they did...

(OOC: Ok, lets try and work my way to the top and a a reasonable way back into the RP)

Colonel Juslin Barok

With the psycosis subsided he walked to the still closed door, only a few wounds still oozing blood most had clotted quite well. Opening the door a crack he peers out, from his limited angle he saw at least two corpses, with obvios lacerations, possible from his knife, but he really didn't care.

Openning the door still more the stench of rotten flesh and decay slams into his face, choking his breath.

Cough cough

From the far side of the hall way a "corpse" stirred, and began to crawl its way down towards Barok. Content of surveying the scene in front of him the zombie comes unmolsested to the door.

crunch

The teeth bit through flesh and muscel, scraping bone just above Barok's combat boots.

Letting out a bestial grunt Barok brings his knife down in a fast overhead arch, smashing through the creature's skull. Gotta get to the top, this is the tallest building might be able to get a signal or a flare or something to get out of this hell hole alive. he thought, then it hit him, his other team members, the civs, all of them, could they have survived all this? Knowing Alexei and his luck he's probely living it up by now.

Grunting as he yanks the knifes serrated blade out of the skull he climbs out of a kneelling position and begins to hobble towards the stairwell.

The metal door groaned open in reply as a rumbling shook through the metal of the stairs (your exploding door for time refrence). What the hell? Gotta be (whatever one of you is the demolitions expert), he's the only one packing that type of heat Barok thought.

Looking up the stairs seemed to climb forever, A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step he thought. Sheathing his knife in his boot he grabs both side rails and begins to slowly climb. Only a few flights up a fire box containing an axe as well as a hose. Grabbing both he cuts the hose into a roughly tied bandalier and slides the axe in insicion along half of it.

What seemed an eternity later the door on his floor bursts open, grabbling for his axe a creature grapples him and pins him. Rolling to his right he fling this creature down to the landing below scrambling to his feet he rips out the axe and swings it in a low arch heading up as the creature rushes up the stairs. The blade hits it just below the sternum and the follow through finishes up removing most of the face.

With one eye hanging only from a frayed optic nerve it barely stumbles bringing its arm around in a wide arch smash Barok in the left temple. Blood begins to ooze from the fresh wound as well as several old ones on thee face and neck bursting open (mostly deep scratches). Bringing his foot up he smashes his boot into the openned chest cavity sending it once again reeling down the stairs. This time it did not clamore against his, it had impaled itself upon an extruding electrical pipe from the wall (emergancy power in building I take it) and the voltage flowing into this unholy cretin cooks it through and through as the smell of burning decayed flesh fills the floor.

Wiping the blood from his eye he spits on the sizzling zombie and continues his upward drudge. Finally reaches the top he is halted by a locked metal door. Taking the axe in his hand again begin to smash the lock (its a lock lock) with both the blunt and sharp end of the axe before it finally gave way.

Stumbling into the light, almost collapsing in its glare (?) he coughs blood upon the smooth floor. Collapsing to a sitting position he sees what thinks is a drop ship, fighting blood loss and exhastion he calls out, "Over here!" as his mind slowly sinks into the dark.

As the others moved to get out of the way Henry realized what was going on, by then it was too late. With his injured leg he just couldn’t move fast enough, within moments they were on top of him. However, Alexei and Mason were quick and had the fiend off of him before he realized what had happened.

Henry turned to thank Alexei and Mason, but Alexei had run off towards the control room, and mason had his hands full with the other zombie. Henry unsheathed his knife as the zombie that they had pulled off of him was coming around for a second attack, this time he would be ready.

“Ten bucks says I kill mine before you kill yours” he yelled out to Mason. He doubt very much that Mason heard him, but couldn’t help but smile at the prospect of winning ten bucks if he was.

As they fiend rushed him he used his splint as brace to absorb most of the force of the impact, then used the fiends momentum against it by tossing it aside. There was aloud thud as it ran into a number off empty fuel drums, the empty drum came crashing down on it. Henry doubted much that the falling drums would stop it, but they would allow time to prepare for a counter attack.

Adjusting the knife his hand Henry moved in for the kill. However, as the fiend fumbled to get to its feet it sent one of the drums rolling towards Henry. He tried to hobble out of the way but wasn’t fast enough, the edge of the drum hit his injured leg. Letting out a brief scream of pain he tuck in and rolled on to the floor, trying to keep his injured leg safe. As he came to his feet the fiend was on him, it rushed in a hit him with full force, the two when sprawling back and collided with another stack of empty drum.

The impact with the drums had saved Henry; the resulting impact had sent a number of drum falling and separated the two, but at a cost, he had lost his knife. Frantically he looked for it, but to no avail. As he was searching the fiend jumped over one of the falling barrels landing right on top of Henry. With the impact Henry could fell a number of ribs crack, ignoring the pain he continued with his struggle.

He was able to keep the fiend mouth just inches from his face, but just barely. It was scratching and trying to bit him. He struggled to keep his attacker at bay, but as it tried to thrash him with its hand Henry was able to get his other hand free. With the arm that was hold the fiend back he grab its chin, and with his freehand he grabbed the back of it head. In a smooth motion he snapped it neck, the fiend twitch for a moment then it’s body became lifeless. Tossing the body to the side, he took a moment to catch his breath, then to his feet. He was in much more pain then he was before, out of the corner of his eye he could see Alexei enter the room, but with all the barrels had lost sight of Mason.

“Where’s Mason” he yelled out to Alexei. "He owe me ten bucks"

As Emily made her way through the vent she could hear someone yelling out. Looking through one of the vents covers she could see Col Barok sitting on the floor leaning against the wall. He looks like he hurt badly she thought, adjusting her position in the vent and kicked out the cover. It was a bit of a tight fit but she made her way through the hole and jumped to the floor. Given their last encounter she walked over to the cautiously.

“Col it ok, it’s me Emily” she paused for a moment to see if had heard her word “I’m here to help you. Can you hear me”

"Get the fu ck in the dropship!" Alexei screamed, noticing that Henry might need help. Alexei assisted the man into the ship and then went back outside to try and find Mason. He found the man leaning over the zombie, holding his arm.

"That son of a bitch bit me," Mason said, as if it was the first time he had seen the zombies do that.

"We gotta go," Alexei said, putting his arm around Mason's shoulder, careful not to touch his spike wound. The two men walked back to the dropship, got in, and turned it on.

The engines whirred beautifully as the consols turned on. Alexei grabbed the helm. It had been some time since he'd flown...most likely since the academy...but he could do it.

As Mason and Henry treated their injuries while sitting at the weapons and communications consols, respectedly, Alexei lifted the dropship off of the roof and set out towards the city.

It seemed odd, they were finally gettting out. Alexei sighed and put the lift to maximum as he leaned back in his chair.

"Uh, Alexei, we're getting a signal..." Henry said, abandoning his injuries and staring at the consol.

"What type," Alexei asked back, sitting up in his seat.

"Universal...someone's still down there..."

"What?"

"Another problem," Mason said, hitting a few buttons on his consol. "It appears that the city is set to be destroyed in...twelve minutes...and there are ships on the radar!"

Maj. Brock Mason

Maj. Brock Mason swung his assault rifle up as he heard the whooshing sound of the horrible creature flying through the air. It was coming for his flank, and he barely had time to turn and fire before it struck him, knocking him to his back. His gun went flying from his grip, landing about 10 feet to his right. If the monster was injured at all from the gunshots, it wasn't showing it.

The 7 foot creature stalked towards the downed Wretchan commando, filling his mind with thoughts of doom, hopelessness and fear. As it reached down to grab him, Brock struck it by surprise, slamming his combat knife into its knee. The monster howled and stumbled back a few steps before yanking the knife free. Brock got to his feet and drew the .50 cal handgun. The oppressive forces in his mind had dissipated, for the moment at least.

"Bring it on, you sack of shit," he growled, raising the handgun.

The monster howled a challenge of its own, and the Major promptly shot it in the chest. It staggered back a step, but it was not mortally injured. It tossed the knife into the air and retaliated, using the power of its mind to send the blade slicing through the air. Brock avoided a fatal blow to the chest by leaping to the side, but the knife still grazed him, ripping his uniform and drawing a thin red line on his left side.

"Holy shit," he muttered in disbelief.

The monster ran forward and bowled the big Wretchan over. Although the creature appeared very gaunt for its size, it had tremendous strength. It kicked him in the side, lifting him off the ground, then pounced on him, clawing and pummeling with its bony limbs. With the human beaten nearly senseless, the monster pinned his arms and prepared to feed. The terrible fangs extended, dripping vile fluids...

Greg walked into the hallway. Nothing. It was empty. He looked to his left. There was a large glass window . It seemed that he was pretty high up in the building. Maybe 10 stories from the roof. Greg looked back to his right. A zombie, dripping of blood and puss, was leaching towards him. It must have been a security guard due to the suit and his pistol.

The zombie was quite unusual. On its back it had a parachute. The poor guy must have been afraid of hights. The zombie leeched even closer. Greg panically looked around. Beside him was a wooden chair. He picked it up and smashed it against the wall. The legs of the chair splintered off. He grabbed one. After a chuckle, he stabbed the zombie in the head.

Greg heard a noise. Like engines. "Shit, the dropship!" he yelled. He frantically looked for an exiit. None. He had to make his own. He pulled the gun out of the zombie's holster. Then, he thought about the parachute. A smirk went accross his face. "This will be fun." He strapped the parachute on his back. He cocked the gun back. He ran at the window, shooting 3 shots. The glass didn't break until he jumped through it.

Falling. He was falling. A ways from the ground, he pulled his chute. The air pulled at him. He gradually coasted to the ground. Greg had to get the dropship's attention. He looked around. The chute was again his savior. It had a flare on the left harness strap. He pulled it off, lit it, then waited. Waited.

Emily was examining the Colonels wounds when she heard a gentle rumble on the outside of the building. Looking to her left she could see a drop ship flying around the building looking for survivors, for a moment she was euphoric, she was now had a had to get out of this alive. However the moment was short lived when she realized that they had no idea where she was. Looking around she tried to figure out her options, looking down hallway she could see a door the lead to out a balcony.

Putting the Col arm around her shoulder she lifted him to his feet and began to make down the hallway towards the door. As she passed through the door she read the sign on it SMOKING OUTSIDE ONLY. Gently putting the Colonel on the ground she waved frantically as the drop ship flew by.

She watched in horror as they flew past her and around the corner. She had to create a signal of some kind. She looked around the balcony for anything that might help, out of the corner of her eye she saw a dead body just laying there. Running over to it she frantically searched its pocket for a lighter or matches.

“Come on, come on” she continued to say as she went about her search “YES!” as she pulled a lighter of the person breast pocket. Jumping to her feet she ran back into the building grabbing some paper and a trashcan. When she returned she lit the paper in the can on fire and placed in the edge, all she could do now was wait.

Emily watched with joy as this time the drop ship slowed and came to stop in front of the balcony. The drop ship hovered there in mid air for a moment until it someone open the hatch. For moment she stood there in shock, it was Henry, when she heard the bomb go off she had assumed that he had went with. Henry was motioning for her to get down, he had a rifle in his hand, confused she turned to see what he was motioning at. Turning around she lost her breath, the body that she taken the lighter from was now standing before her, now she understood.

Emily dropped to the ground giving Henry a clear shoot. The zombies head snapped back as Henry’s bullet hit it’s mark.

Soon things got real windy as the drop ship came up along side the building. Henry extended the ramp. Again helping the Colonel to his feet she handed him over to Henry then her self jumped inside. As she did off in the distance a flare could be seen.

Emily glanced over at Henry who was already trying to stabilize the Colonel. “I thought you where..”

He interrupted her before she could finish “Dead.” There was an awkward silence “Well some things don’t go according to plan.”

Alexei smiled, and this time he truely smiled. After all, them being alive was not according to plans...at least NiMBUS's plans.

Alexei had...appreciated Emily's beauty when he first saw her, but now she seemed more interested elsewhere. However, the fact that he was thinking such thoughts made him relax...in an odd sort of way.

"We got company!" Mason shouted. Alexei looked down at his radar, which showed two fighters closing in on them.

"Engaging thrusters!" he said to the others as he hit the engines hard, piloting the ship towards where the flair had went off.

"We're being shot at!" Mason said in horror. "I-I'm raising shields! Brace yourselves!" The ship rocked as the energy weapons connected with the dropship's shields. "Shields at 83%."

"After one hit?" Henry complained, helping Emily into a seat.

"Hey...this ship isn't Steel Butterfly...I don't think it'll last much...we need to get outta here!" Alexei shouted.

"Get the person down there!" Emily commanded. Alexei turned around, shocked at the order.

"Fu ck it," he said, steering the ship back down into the city. "Raise the weapons!"

"Shields at 67%!" Mason shouted over the whirr of the engines. There was no way out. The only thing they could do was...

All at once, Alexei put the dropship into reverse. The fighters sped past the still dropship as Alexei fired the polaron beam into one, blowing it up in mid air.

"Engines are offline!" he heard Henry shout as the second fighter took a hard right and disappeared from view. "You really gave them a beating with that reverse."

"Where the hell is it?" Alexei screamed, fumbling with the radar controls.

"It's right...no...behind us..." Mason yelled as the ship was rocked from one side to another. Just as they were about to stand up, the ship was shaken once more. "Shields at 41%!" another rocking "29%!"

"Fu ck it up the ass!" Henry shouted, opening the door. He reached out and aimed his weapon at the fighter's external engines. Firing a long burst, the particle beams cut through the fighter's hull as it decended quickly. "Remind me to use more lube next time," he said, closing the door. The fighter fell, crashing into the building and exploding. "Engines are back. They just needed to cool down it seems."

Alexei scanned the city for any life forms and went about picking them up. The lifesigns showed the major and someone else, still inside. Giving Henry the helm, Alexei jumped out and went in to find them. Before leaving, he told the dropship to only stay around as long as it was safe for them.

Layne came upon the scene of the battle just in time. The big commando had just been pummeled by the abomination, and it was about to feed. It was so focused on its prey that it did not realize that the Exile had snuck up on it. Layne drew his revolver and fired into the creatures back two times, knocking it off.

The monster turned to regard him with hatred in its eyes, and a feeling of impending doom settled over him as it bored into his mind with its own. The creature began to advance on him, only to stumble as another shot rang out. The seemingly helpless commando had recovered enough to grab his pistol and lend a hand, and the shot snapped Layne out of his daze. He fired again as well. With both men firing on it, the creature was hard pressed. Unwilling to risk serious injury, the monster howled and leapt off into the darkness.

Layne walked over to the commando, who was regaining his feet. Then he stopped. The man was a Wretchan, he realized. Parts of the uniform and small patches and badges on it marked him as a soldier in the Dread Legions, if one knew what to look for. Layne sighed. This wasn't going to be good...

The man stood and dusted himself off, then took a quick look at his wounds to make sure that they were not serious. Then he turned to regard Layne and began to introduce himself.

"Maj. Brock Mason, at your service. Thank you for your-" the Major stopped, glaring intently at the mark on Layne's face. He sneered.

"Exile," he spat the word with disgust. "What role have you played in this madness, cur? I would not put it past an Exile, destroying a city like this."

Layne cast his eyes down. Every mention of the word Exile reminded him of the horrible mistake he had made to earn that title, and stung his very soul.

"I had taken up residence in this city," he mumbled. "I have to live somewhere, after all."

The monster howled again, somewhere in the vast dungeon. Layne glanced around, eyes wide.

"Look, I know that you are required by your position to despise me, but now is not the time for this," he cried urgently.

"Yes," the Major grumbled. "I don't like it, but we will fare better if we stay together. Alone, the monster could take either of us out without difficulty. Now, if you got in, there must also be a way out. How did you get in?"

The Exile strained to remember. He had only been half-conscious for a little bit of that journey, but from the fragments he could remember he made a guess as to where the way out would be. Brock agreed to check it out, and by some stroke of luck Layne had been right. They entered the dark tunnel, and groped around, slowly finding their way through. At last they saw dim light ahead, and stumbled out into the street. Layne heard something in the distance, and looked around. He was able to make out what appeared to be a dropship flying above the city.

"Look!" he cried, pointing it out to the Major.

"We have a chance then," the Major said, some excitement evident in his normally calm voice. "We need to find a way to get their attention!"

The Major noticed a cop car buried under a bit of rubble. There might be something they could use in there...

"Help me dig it out!" he ordered. The two men pulled chunks of concrete and debris off of the cruiser until the Major could get at the door. He yanked on it until the door came off his hinges, then he tossed the piece of scrap on the ground. He rummaged around inside the cruiser for a moment, then came out, clutching an object triumphantly.

"A flare gun," Layne said. They actually had a real chance of escaping...

A familiar roar interrupted his thoughts, and emotions began to bombard him. A glance over at Major Brock confirmed that he had heard it too.

"No," the Exile cried in disbelief. "No!"

It was coming back...

"Come on Alexei" he said under his breath.

Alexei told him to get out if things weren't safe, and for a moment Henry considered that option. But no sooner had the thought entered his head, then it was gone. They had been through so much in the past little while that there was no chance that he would just abbandon him now. Major Brock Mason saw Alexei. They were so close...

"Come on!" he commanded. The two Wretchans made a run for it. Unfortunately, they were not fast enough.

The abomination sprang out of nowhere, kicking Layne to the ground and using its telekinetic powers to hurl several fair-sized rocks at Alexei. It struck the Major with hard backhand and then picked up the Exile, howling in his face before hurling him against the wrecked police cruiser. Layne groaned and slumped to the ground. The monster stood over Layne in triumph and began to extend its terrible fangs. It would not feed that easily, however. A burst of assault rifle fire struck it in the back; Brock was not down for the count just yet. The terrible creature snarled with rage, and turned to see the Major. With a groan, the trashed police cruiser was pulled free from the rubble, held in the air by the power of the demonic thing's mind. Then, with great speed and accuracy, it twirled through the air at the Major.

"Holy shi-" he screamed as he leapt to the side. He could not avoid the the large missile entirely however, and the front end of the car struck him in the abdomen as it spun around, blasting him to the pavement. Wether he was still alive or not remained to be seen.

The monster roared in triumph, believing all of its enemies to be vanquished. Then there was a click behind it, remarkably like the sound of a revolver cocking. The beast turned its head only to see into the barrel of a gun. There was a blast, and the abominable creature saw no more. It writhed on the ground for a moment, until Layne put another round in its head, ending its threat for good. He looked down at the thing, feeling no remorse.

Layne ran over to the wreckage that would likely be Maj. Brock Mason's grave. He saw the Major, not under the car, but sprawled on the ground a ways behind it. Blood was seeping from the corner of his mouth, and he wasn't moving. Layne shook his head.

"Poor guy," he muttered.

A weezing noise drew his attention back to the body, and he noticed the Major's chest slightly rising and falling. He's alive!

"He's alive!" he cried out with excitement. He looked around for the other commando he had seen, hoping that he wasn't killed when the creature tossed the rocks at him. He wouldn't be able to move the Major on his own, after all...

OOC: This post starts during the above post]

Alexei saw it...the rocks...the creature...

He had said that it was the end, but he never really meant it...never really believed it...

"Ahhhh!" he screamed, unloading his polaron percusson rifle at the rocks, breaking them into smaller rocks as they fell towards his body. At the last moment he dove under a police car, landing hard on his bleeding back, yelling out in pain.

He had made it...he had came so far...and now...he threw it all away, for others who he didn't even know. Would he have done that even a week ago?

Gunshots brought him back to reality as he slowly crawled from the car, dented with rocks. He heard a man call out, as Henry got out of the dropship.

"He's alive!"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It all seemed like a dream now in the dropship. Alexei couldn't remember how they had gotten the injured man onto the ship, or themselves for that matter, but they had, and now they were off, gaining altitude as they breathed a sigh of relief.

The relief was short lived however...

"We got fighters again," Mason shouted, making Alexei jump out of his daze. While startled, he hit the control stick, causing the ship to jerk downward slightly. "Woah there..."

"How many?" Alexei asked, sensing everyone's mood becoming tense, alert...

"Seven...no...twelve...no..." Mason started, his eyes growing large. "Man we got over twenty!"

"Shit," or something like it, was the common response among the survivors. NiMBUS simply would not let them live...

"Stand down..." was the only command. Alexei knew what that would lead to.

"Guys..." Alexei said. "It...I wouldn't want to go out with anyone else. You people...we've been through a lot together..." A tear came to his eye. He never cried before, yet it was all he could do to hold himself back. These things...this place...it did something to him...something that would not be forgotten...

They had made it so far...and yet...

"We got another ship..."

"Listen Mason," someone said, Alexei couldn't be sure who anymore. "20 fighters or 21...doesn't make much difference..."

"No...this one's huge!" Mason responded. Alexei looked on the viewscreen. There was something different about this one...

"It's firing on the fighters!"

Alexei couldn't believe it. Could they possibly...? The ship rocked, cutting his train of thought short.

"Shields at 21%!" Mason shouted. "They're taking us down with them!"

"Fuck!" Alexei screamed, grabbing the non-responsive controls. "Henry get the engines up!"

"I can't!" was the simple, yet disheartening response.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once more, Alexei couldn't remember how long they had sat there in mid air, relatively defenseless, hoping for the best, yet waiting for the worse. The large ship had effectively destroyed all of the fighters, and it seemed to have them in a sort of tractor beam. The crew heard doors opening, and suddenly the dropship was no longer in the atmosphere, but inside the ship.

He grabbed his rifle as he heard the dropship's doors unlock from the outside, but stopped as they opened reveiling two men with uniforms...Steel Butterfly military uniforms...

"Hold it!" Alexei said, forcing the words out of his mouth. How very much he wanted to shoot...to fight...but what good would it do? They would simply be killed. "We need medical attention," he said to the ensign.

"Hold on, we're checking you over and..."

"That's an order, Ensign!" Alexei screamed, using his rank to his advantage. Through the blood and the wounds, he was hardly recognized, but someone outside in the hanger gave a similar order which the ensign followed. Too tired to be angry, Alexei and the others who could slowly exited the dropship, and found themselves surrounded by Imperial soldiers.

A man whom Alexei had never seem before approached him, extending his hand. The man was extrememly well dressed and groomed, and Alexei hesitated before extending his blood and dirt stained hand. The hand shake was firm, and so Alexei cried out momentarily, for a spike had been impaled through his palm before, which he since had forgotten.

"Get this man...no...get them all medical attention, quickly..." the man ordered.

"Where are the others?" he asked, sitting up quickly. The pain in his back and palms seemed to have vanished.

"Technology works wonders, does it not?" the man said with a smile on his face. Alexei looked down at his robed body and felt rejuvinated, like he could go out and run a marathon without breaking a sweat. Was it all a dream? No...it couldn't be...

"How...?"

"Regeneration," the man said as if he was talking about baking a cake. "You've not heard of it?"

"No..." Alexei admitted. Or had he?

"It's quite simply nowadays really. Surely you know replication is widely available," the man said. Alexei knew of it. "So a few years ago NiMBUS thought 'Why can't we replicate cells?' and so they accomplished it. God knows what they're doing with it now..."

"NiMBUS," Alexei thought out loud, feeling his lip raise in disgust. He opened his mouth to ask, but the man left the room abruptly, only saying that the others were in good care. Another man, in a military uniform entered.

"How could you let this happen!" Alexei screamed at the man, slapping his outreach hand away. He was sick of the gestures of friendliness. These bastards allowed the things in the city to go on. Hell, they encouraged it.

"Frankly I thought you'd be pleased that we saved your life and quickly healed your injuries," the man said. "Sky Marshall William Mitchell, by the way. Nice to meet you, Alexei."

"Nice to...wait...how the hell do you know my name?"

"Honestly, Lieutenant," Mitchell responded. "You expect us not to know everything about you."

"You bastards...I...I'm writing to every major newspaper about this. I'm sending it to other countries...NiMBUS will die! You hear me, they're going to fuc king die!" Alexei said, lashing out at the Sky Marshall.

"I encourage you to," Mitchell replied, but Alexei did not stop to notice. He kept ranting on until the Sky Marshall brought up his girlfriend. "She works for NiMBUS, Lieutenant. I myself have a companion back home...do you owe your allegence to your lover?"

It had begun to sink in for Alexei. "Where are my companions?"

"Didn't Mr. Pierce tell you?" Mitchell said. Mr. Pierce? That must have been that man... "They have all been cared for, and they're currently in a recreation room, most likely relaxing."

"You...you said you encourage me to try and take down NiMBUS..." Alexei questioned, trying for it all to make sense.

"Do you owe your allegence to your girlfriend?"

"Fuck her," was Alexei's abrupt response. A man trained in military, Alexei put two and two together. "What are you planning?"

"There will be time for that later," Mitchell said. He smiled, and left the room, just as the man, Mr. Pierce, entered once more.

"I'm James Pierce," Mr. Pierce said. "We never officially met yet."

"I guess not," Alexei responded, shocked by what the Sky Marshall had just said. Pierce gave him a PADD, which was an official document stating how he died gallantly in battle. Alexei looked up...so it was really happening...

"I assume we're on the same page then, Lieutenant..."

"Can you do it?"

"We have a good shot...we already have two planets, and Bivens Co. and the Orion Pirates are supporting us..."

"Pirates?"

"I thought the same thing at first, but they are vicious fighters...and we'll take what we can get..."

Greg lounged in the mysterious rec room. He had no idea where he was. As a matter of fact, he was on the other side of the univers that his homeland was on. Yet, at the same time, he felt calm. These people that surrounded him would forever be his freinds. He had been through so much. The wound on his leg was healed thanks to the genuis of these people that had rescued them (or was it capture?). That was his first scar of the dreaded day.

He thought of the first zombie. It was a women in her mid 20's. Unsuspecting, she had no idea it would happen. After taking that zombie down, he found Mason. Mason and Greg had been through a lot. They found that super zombie outside of the store. Then found the freakish manequins. Then, with the help of gasoline, blew up an entire store.

If while facing the Chris monster, Greg hadn't struck the pipe, they most likely wouldn't be here. It was a miracle, each little bit. Then, by the grace of God, Alexei knew how to fly. And, yet agin, thankfully the zombie security guard was afraid of heights.

A feeling deep inside of him finally triggered. An explosion of thought entered his mind. Suddenly, he had a thought that there might be some other Orderians in the area. He had no reason thinking that. He shunned it away at first. It was worth a try. He walked over to one of his rescuers and nicely asked, "Do you have a com-system I can use?"

Paul Christianson could now only think about his old home - Nanakaland. Rumor had it that since he had left, Nanakaland had constructed a space fleet. He wished he could communicate with them. However, he was a bit injured (fractured leg, big wound on leg, bunch of bruises and broken bones from the jump from the bridge) and needed to recover....

Henry had joined the conversation between the Greg and the guard.

“Well if that all that you can say, then why don’t find me someone that can answer my question. For that matter I would like to talk Alexei.” The one thing that was now his main priority was getting through to his C.O. NiMbus had taken the lives of many people; he would make sure that they paid for each of them.

“I’ll what I can do.” answered the guard. Henry wasn’t sure if he was serious, or just trying to shut him up.

As he made his way back to his seat he took note of his leg, what ever they had done, they had done a good job. He took his seat beside Emily, as sat down she rested her head on his shoulder.

“Do you think that we will ever get home” she asked.

Henry took a moment to answer her question. “Well however these people are they have no part with NiMbus, cause if they did, then we would be dead right.” His words caused her little comfort “They did do good job in getting us out, and patching us up”

He took a moment and glanced over at her, he doubt very much that she had actually heard a word that he had said, she had fallen asleep. They had all been through so much in the past little while. However, for some strange reason Henry felt this was only the beginning of what was going to come.

[OOC: Sorry, I forgot. My nation is a bit behind on some technological advances. In one of these roleplays, it says Nanakaland is behind Steel Butterfly's tech level by about a few decades.]

Paul wondered what was going on. After all, he had been cut off from the outside world since the "earthquake." Now, he sat on a ship, staring out into space - litterally. He wondered about the proposed Nanakaland Moon Colony (now built, but he didn't know), the proposed Nanakaland space program (has been in action, but he didn't know), and he wondered if Nanakaland was still intanct (yes).

Alexei had fallen asleep on the medical bed for two or three hours when he was abruptly awakened by another man of about the same age.

"Ivanova!" the man yelled, obviously overjoyed. Alexei recognized him instantly.

"Vinzer!" Alexei said back, suddenly awake and alert. The two had known each other from their days at the academy, and had become good friends. "They get you too?"

"Who's they?"

"What? These men. Did they recruit you?"

"You could say that..."

Eric Vinzer was obviously troubled and had his mind on other things. (If you read "Engulfing Creation in Due Time" you'd understand. It's in the archives.) He knew more about the situation than Alexei, but he doubted that he had been through as much....and that was saying something.

"How's Lance?" Alexei asked of the third member of their group of friends. Eric didn't have the heart to tell him that Lance had somewhat of a breakdown after Vernetta died, and that they're old friend would be soon fighting against them...not yet at least. A part of Eric hoped that Lance would die before they ever met up with him, for it would make things much easier on all of them.

"Not too good," was Eric's response. Eric knew of NiMBUS. He had read the notes, and had seen the almost super powers that NiMBUS could give a person. However Leon didn't work for NiMBUS anymore, and not that NiMBUS cared. They were too obsessed with the Q virus to even consider the genious of Leon's work. Now they would pay for their neglect, Eric was sure of it.

A seemingly long and awkward silence followed, until Alexei began to feel hungry, so Eric took him to the officer's lounge. Alexei had noticed that Eric was now a Commander and not a Lieutenant. Soon he would get his own promotion of equal rank.

"So dis is 'ow you...say...'Cry 'avoc and let slip de dogs of war?'"

"It seems that way," Bivens responded to the head pirate as the starship neared the surface.

"Vhat about family?" Demidov asked. "Who does dis Nemerov 'ave?"

"No one," Pierce said, entering the room. "...and he'll have less soon. General, who is assigned the duty?"

"The Second Marines, sir," General Michael Sherman said, checking his watch. "Captain Leon Williams." Pierce knew the name, and the man, well.

"Good," Pierce responded.

"...and so?" the pirate asked.

"...and so I give the Second Marines twelve hours to assassinate a major Steel Butterfly leader, a governor of a planet at that, and then proclaim to the universe our discontent with the NiMBUS Corporation. Soon after all Nationalists from the planets of Bivens and Aeisis shall be purged and sent in refugee ships to the capital, where they will arive, long dead from exposure to the great darkness of space. Soon after, Nemerov will respond by fueling the emotions of those he surrounds himself with, and launching an anti-terrorist fleet of four battleships, filled with top of the line marines and technology. These ships will be promptly dealt with by the Mr. Demidov, while he spares one of the ships in question. My troops will be assisting him recover the fourth ship of the anti-terror fleet," Pierce said. Bivens and the military leaders looked on in amazement. This man was no mere resistance leader.

"After that?" Bivens asked as the ship reached and landed on the planet of Aeisis, the landing thud barely noticible.

"After that it's up to them," Pierce said, noticibly distancing himself from the Empire. "If they take us seriously, they'll invade, and blood and souls will fly."

"If dey don't...?" Demidov asked.

"If they don't...we make them take us seriously. Frankly gentlemen, I'm in this to win."

Greg looked at Henry, he motioned him to the corner of the room. Greg had a plan. Maybe, just maybe, he could find out what was going on. "Umm, Henry, I have a plan." I am goin to distract the guard, then you need to hit him in the head with something heavy and blunt." "After that, on of us will take his suit and go find out where we are." "Neither," Pierce said, entering the room. Although comfortable, it did resemble a prison of sorts. "ODIN Battle Armor has an identification system. If the original occupant is not the occupant in it currently, it simply falls apart." The guard turned around, seemingly shocked, but not much. "Besides, there are many more guards."

Pierce pointed to random places in the room, and then to the doorways where visible guards stood watch.

"Also, if you'll look around, the only things here to hit someone with are the pillows from the couch. The replicators, even the couches themselves are attached to the floor. You have nothing...now...if you want anything at all...leave your planning to yourself. For all intents and purposes, I could shoot you all right now. You're all dead in the eyes of your nations. However...I think you have a much greater purpose. Now...for your questions...?"

Henry extend his hand to the man that had just entered, against his better judgement he decided to take a chance. There was something in his tone of voice that made Henry think that he could trust him.

"Special Agent Henry Kobe, Tappee intelligence. I was wondering if you could tell me exactly whats going on here. i'm pretty sure that your not with NiMbus nor SB, cause if you where we'ed be dead. As soon as he was able, Maj. Brock Mason went to find Layne. He needed the aid of a crutch to do so; even the very advanced medical care he had received hadn't healed him completely, and it would take a couple weeks of natural healing before he was 100%, he was told. He wasn't complaining, however. Nearly every bone in his body had been broken, with internal injuries to boot. That he was alive at all was nothing short of a miracle. He could put up with a crutch and some splints for a while.

Layne had filled him in on what had happened in those last fateful minutes in the doomed city, since Brock couldn't remember much beyond their first encounter with the psy-monster. While recovering, the Major had some time to think about the Exile. Clearly he had misjudged him. The man had saved him on two occasions, when lesser men would have given him up for dead. He owed the man a proper thank you, at least.

Layne saw the Major approaching.

"Ahh, your walking!" he said.

"Sort of," Brock replied. "Listen, Ex-err, Layne..." The soldier stumbled over the words for a moment.

"Thank you," he managed, finally. "You saved me back there, when I had been nothing but an ass to you."

"Hey, anybody would have done-" the Exile started.

"No they wouldn't have," Brock cut him off. "I misjudged you, and for that I apologize. When I get out of here and make my report, I will mention your part and do everything I can to get you out of exile."

"Thank you," Layne said earnestly. Never had he thought that another Wretchan-particularly a soldier-would treat him with any respect ever again.

There was an awkward silence for a moment; Wretchan men were not very apt at dealing with feelings and emotions with eachother, and neither really knew what was appropriate to say.

"Well," the Major said, breaking the silence "lets go see if these guys are going to let us go." Judging by the way he said it, he didn't sound very hopeful.

"Yeah," Layne replied with some doubt. Both men doubted that the nightmare they had been through would end quite so easily.

The two Wretchan men walked out of the room and went looking for someone with authority who could tell them their fate.
