your source image is too small to work with, if you have a copy of it larger post it online and put a link to it here and I will see what I an do, if possible anout 350x350 pixels would be perfect to work with.

Probably because the limit wasn't set when they made their big flags? Just a guess here.

If you are logged in as yourself and looking at the flag it always shows up as 107x71. Try logging out and looking at your nation when you are not logged into nationstates. It should show larger.

If you are logged in as yourself and looking at the flag it always shows up as 107x71. Try logging out and looking at your nation when you are not logged into nationstates. It should show larger.

green, white, blue (each stripe takes 33.3%of the flag as to make sure they are distrubuted equally)

I have done some exparimentation with my ownnation before I settled on th size and th eonly thing it does in makes the nation name appear like this

Enforced? :shock: Oh, PLEASE no.... The Pits' flags wouldn't look right if they were 107x71, even if I did resize and resample them... a lot of midieval flags hung vertically, besides... like mine.. How can you show a vertical hanging-banner flag as if it were a regular horizontal one?

And there are flags irl that don't fit the dimensions as well...

Besides, as long as the flag is below the 6KB limit, does it really matter all that much how it fits on the screen? I'm perfectly fine with seeing huge flags like Loop makes.... they're awesome! :D

ow are you downloading it, try right clicking and saving to disk, it shows up on my computer and where it is osted as 5.69k

(dragging and dropping from NS makes the files huge for some reason.

I always make flags to the 107 X 71 size as a design challenge. It's harder that way.

I did it for a while but decided that the larger versions are better because you get more workroom and it is easier for persons with vision problems to see them.

okay, i got windows xp 2001 home version.
when I rright click on the flag and "save as" to my desktop it saves as a .bmp image.
is that the problem? and can you just put the URL into the thing and upload it or do you need to have it saved to your harddrive?

it ahs to be uplosded form your HDD, I have no idea how to do it by you need to adjsut your preferences so that it saves as Jpg, otherwise it wont work properly.

if you have someone you trust who has a Mac, have them down load it(dont drag and drop, control click download) and have them put it in, I know Macs dont change the files when they download stuff.

That's not the only thing you can do, you know. Right-click on the picture and go to Properties, if you're having trouble... highlight the URL of the picture and copy it, then paste it into the browser. Next, go to File -> Save As... you shouldn't have any problems then.

Of course, I haven't tried it in Netscape, but I'm laying bets you're an IE user anyway, if you're having the BMP format problem. :)

If all else fails, TM me with your email addy and I'll email the file to you in a neat little .zip file so no more conversions will screw it up. ;)

Photoshop 7, I save it without an icon or a preiew, those can add up to a meg of file sizxe to a image.

Hrm... I'm using Photoshop 6, and it doesn't even have the options for icons or previews... even at nil image quality, it still tends to turn out too large. When I save a jpg, it doesn't have its own icon, either...

Trust me when I say I'm well aware of that... for purposes of saving the art I scan to illustrate rps with my friends, I usually don't save the jpg at below a quality of 85%. For purposes of trying to shrink the filesize of my flag, I've gone down to, in Adobe, a quality of 1.... and it was still too large.

(Adobe uses whole numbers, 1-10, instead of 1-100 like my other graphics conversion program does...)

Yeah, I have the same problem with PhotoDeluxe (hey it came with the computer. I don't have much of a budget to work with here)...so when 1 isn't enough, I copy it to another program that uses a 1-100 scale. Have you tried it with your other program?

(By the way I'm Ewetopia. Shh, you don't know that though.)

Hey there, I was wondering if you would be able to make me a flag?
If you are indeed able to do so, could it be black with a crown in the centre with three swords going through it. The swords will cross over eachother like an "x" with a veritical line through it.

Stupid idea for a neon effect.
1 Make the object how you want it to look.
2 make a solid color version of object slightly larger
3 over lay them on each other.

If you're using PSD, you don't have to have a special filter for it.

In the list of layers, select the layer where all the text/foreground is, and right-click. go to Blending Options, and it should be an option named "Outer Glow" or something similar.

actually...hmm make the Uk flag black where its blue, and red where its red. make the canadian flag black. Above the leaf put USSR, below the leaf put TROUSRS, and on the left of it put CC and on the right CP

Done. Note that it is distorted, due to the fact that flags will appear at 107x71. As a side note, it would be nice if it was possible to either support 2:3 and 1:2 ratios instead of 107x71 (which is an oddball ratio consisting of what appear to be only prime numbers, making it impossible to have a relatively decent flag at a 1:2 ratio (but almost ok at a 2:3 ratio)

Dang Loop, you work fast. Last time I checked this thread it had 6 pages.

Quick note about the "glowing edges": All I do is make a copy of the layer to glow (merge multiple ones if necessary), push contrast down to 0 so it's solid gray, use variations and hue/saturation to set the color, then blur & diffuse alternately until it's nice and fuzzy. Lately I've found that feathering it (fill selection) works even better.

I use Neopaint to make cut and paste flags with limited free handing.
I'll use the whip and chain to make myself free hand draw in the future.
From my time on the Maxis game "The Sims" I've seen Photoshop is THE BEST, but Neopaint costs two-thirds the price and is two-thirds as good at least. Paint Shop Pro is somewhere in the middle.

When you look at your own flag while logged in, it's always 107x71. But other people see it in the normal size. You can test it by logging out and looking at your country.
