"If you live up in the clouds, well everything is beautiful, and all the minds are spotless." < Can I get a rousing chorus of "Yeah, Riiiggghhhttt" >
"Down here among us dirtgrubbers, groundpounders, tunnel trolls and mall rats no mind is spotless, and nothing is beautiful...or stays that way long. < catcalls of "too true">
Or as they say "down among the dead men" <"that's us!" with bitter, but tired laughter in the shadows >
"Years ago they made a law outlawing Heroes, and so blood flowed ankle deep if not more as the mobs roared and hungered for more.
I flinch, I can't help it, the memories are yet too raw, and look down at my toes. The Raging Times were bad and no one alive then likes to think about them now. I can feel the barely shackled violence yet though coursing through the audience, but mingled with burning shame.
"Yeah it was all a scam and we got played but good. But it cleared the way for those that sold us the goods, and now they're the ones in power. With no one to stop them they took out the police and the government - they'd bought the military long ago - disbanded it but kept the weapons.
"The law is still there but I swear I saw some one flying the other day....but then again I also know a talking slime mold - well, that IS what he looks like poor sap... " Some jeers at that. No one likes to admit that the Jokers are real.
"We don't need another hero? Maybe Thunderdome doesn't, their acts are over priced and hyped as it is...but I digress..we sure could use a few. It's not good and getting worse."
Arc can be Paradise or it can be Hell. And every thing in between.

OOC:CLOSED AT THIS TIME- TG me and we can discuss
This is an Heroes/ Super Powers Campaign / Character RP set in the sprawling megacity of Arc.
Back Story.
Up until 25 years ago, their resident Super Heroes were beloved celebrities. Then came the Raging Times, when the 'common fold' were fed a line - and yes they bought into it hook, line, and not so proverbial sinker. In the space of days hundreds of individuals - even those with the most minor of useless powers -were murdered, slaughtered with utmost brutality and wide swaths of the city burned.
For five years the city and it's populace reveled in an a sporadic orgy of violence, then with those 'unfairly' Gifted, those "abominations who were planning to enslave us all" were gone. Most dead, a few hiding so deep they forgot who they had been and freverently hoped every one else did as well, a handfull fled.
And while the manipulated were concentrating on the spectacle they were reveling in the masterminds secured their hold over Arc.
Arc is a city that lives off of vice. Sex tours, illegal drug production, illegal medical procedures, slavery, offshore banking, arms manufacturing, etc- and only up in the Clouds is it prettified. But up there it is beautiful, really it is, and ever so clean, if expensive - but then again if you can afford it you don't have to answer any questions or answer to anyone.
But the Powers are returning. And there will be a Reckoning...or not...
A quick visual tour of the city...
Arc1 (http://www.atddm.com/Arcp1.htm)
Arc2 (http://www.atddm.com/Arcp2.htm)
History 101
Arc was once the capitol city of a proud but sullen nation – The Nation of Go-an - it was formed from all the sore losers in history – it has a long and proud history of being made up of the disgruntled. In the end they didn’t care what races /nations / cultures their immigrants came from, so the ethnicity is mixed. They were all peoples that just wanted, by that point, to be left alone.
The land they settled was what most no one else wanted, badlands near desert, poor in easily accessable minerals, natural resources and views worth looking at. But they survived and made a nation for themselves that was reasonably prosperous.
However as the nation grew and flourished they found they had more than just normal criminals to deal with – people with more than human abilities started cropping up and at first those with Powers were not heroically inclined noble, good samaratins who sought nothing more than to serve the common good. No, they were avaracious, greedy, bullying, short sighted, cruel, oppressive, sociopathic and psychopathic, sadistic - in short, Villainous.
The nations medical technology was able to identify the difference in a Heroe or Villian from an ordinary, or Mundane person. Some were genetic mutants, some were viral mutants, some had had their bodies altered by radiations or drugs or chemicals, some were part human part 'other'. < Most would never manifest, or if they did it was as but barely useable abilities that would not breed true- and the people had not taste for breeding programs so that never proceeded - at least officially. Some activated at puberty, some much later after generally traumatic events in their lives.>
But the Go-Ans figured out how to identify 'it' - and eventually Heroes arose to combat them, and Go- An even started a Hero Academy to train them. But the Villains had their own secret academy, their own organizations so the Heroes never managed to win the day completely.
The Villians became the pupular boogey man, the Heroes had fan clubs, theme song, respect even adulation - but They aren't like in the comic books -Heroes rise, grow old, retire and die, so do Villians.
But it was fairly balanced and life went on for the masses in reasonable fashion. Then Go-An attacked by a nation that coveted even the poor land that Go- An held. They attacked with nuclear weapons and most of the country side became uninhabitable, radioactive slag. The nation had only a modest sized army, though there was universal conscription - you graduated high school at 17 and served a minimum of 2 years in the armed forces. The bulk of Go-Ans combat forces were Heroes, but even Heroes fall to nukes.
Desperate, the larger majority of the remaining population went off planet to find a new home, but the vast colony ships were never heard from again. Building the ships had beggared the nation, and they could not hold every one. They held a lottery, and the lucky ones left. The unlucky ones, once more disgruntled loosers, were left behind. That was about a hundred years ago.
Discarding the name of the defunt nation the remaining, psychologically battered survivors huddled in Arc, their food stuffs imported from other nations or from the few farms - the agro stations- to the west of Arc. Out past them is more glass desert. To the north of the city is the small enclave of unpoisoned land that the Cloud Landers use as their vacation spot. – north of that is ocean and the polar ice cap. To the east is the ocean. To the south, past the vast, ever growing mound of toxic refuse created by the nearly 100 million strong of Arc, are mountains. There slaves - property of the Cloud Landers - toil to the death in deep mines, bringing out uranium, bauxite, gold and diamonds – the third leg of the triad of wealth for the Cloud Landers – the other two being Arms Manufacturers and Pharmaseutical Companies.
For 95 years the Heroes that stayed behind contiued the tradition - kept the Villains of Arc in balance, until the Raging Time happened.
The city is a immense square, laid out in a strict grid line system for the main streets, but the side streets and alleys so twisty and turney that they are not mapable. Mostly because they weren't there when the city was first laid out. Great swaths of the city were destroyed a generation ago in the Raging Times and those up in Cloud Land built new towers haphazardly - and they don't care what goes on below Main Level as long as it doesn't interfere with their profits and pleasures.
The Haves and the Have Nots in this city are divided by height - at what Level one lives at.
Below Ground/ The Basement / Among the Morlocks- more than just anything goes - anything and every thing imaginable happens, and some things no sane person wants to think about. The Cloud- Landers do not rule here, even their fearsome private security only comes here in armored, armed groups of squad strength. The lower one goes the worse it gets. It is a cesspit, a sweltering, reeking humid stew that caters to all the vices one might expect.
Ground Zero: Ground level - anything goes with it getting cleaner and less tolerant of improper behavior the higher one goes. All but a few of the Mega Towers have NO entrances on Ground Zero, and are heavily armored under their decorative architectural facades.
Level 6-9 is the breaking point - no elevator - passenger or freight -from Level 30 or lower goes above this Level - the security here is immense, and papers must be presented and vetted to go any higher. There are no cross walks between buildings at this level, for security purposes. Security cameras are onmipresent. The next ten levels are office spaces, warehouses for the upper levels, light manufacturing, schools for the children of the Mainers, medical research and other white collar endeavors.
Main/ Mid Levels: Between Level 80 and Level 120 - this is the region of what middle class there is. With Main ( as a specific address being anything on level 100 is said to be MAIN where there are many upscale stores and restaunts) - Good security, any one being out and about on these levels has to have ID proving that they live here, or have a job here - and security cameras are common. There are still spots for semi legal enterprises, and crime - mostly of the hijacking and mugging variety. If a resident can't afford or just doesn't see the need to have a contract with a security firm, it's their look out. Guns are "illegal" to own and carry on this level unless one is an employee of a security firm, or a resident of Utopia.
Cloud Land / Utopia /Angels High - Level 125 & up- where the wealthy and powerful congregate. No one from Ground Zero gets up here save on the most temporary of basis’s- and must have a very good reason- and all the appropriate stamps/ passes etc- security here is unbelievably tight and very thorough. The most of the residents of this level carry weapons openly and there is nothing to stop them from killing any non resident - and no justification needed. Any non Utopian or non Mainer found up here can automatically be presumed up to no good - and as there is no law save what the Cloud Landers choose to acknowledge ... The best brothels, stores & restraunts, every luxury and vice is available.
1) There is no Official Government there is no Official Law Enforcement Agency / group- there are only the Syndics/ Triads/ Mafiosi - each runs an area of the city. They are in constant competition to control more of the city. Running gun battles can be found almost daily even as high up as Main.
NOTE: The proles - the underclass that live, work in near sweatshop conditions, and die, below 6 -9 receive a BLS - a Basic Living Stipend - aka the dole...It is not paid in cash. Registered residents are paid in coupons or supplied until the monthly allotment runs out then it is turned off until the first of next month. Basic education is free for children ages 6 - 15.
2) Basic Standards of Living: Power, sewage, potable water, clean air, net access, food - all are intermittent, and high priced.
A) Air: All places of business and most residences have special air filtration units - rentals have pay by the day units. Many people wear cloth/ fiber disposable air filters Though of course these are not necessary in Utopia, and on most days in Main.
B) Steam: Most heating is steam heating, but like electric power, taking too much for free has consequences.
C) Computer / Net Access: Just as limited, and haphazard as Power - All communications are via the net using a Skype type service. Fleet footed, or fast pedaling couriers can make a good if hazardous living. ( Here the messenger can get killed )
D) Prinking Water / Public Facilities: There are no free drinking fountains / faucets, nor are there free sanitary facilities - you pay to go, or go where ever you can find a bit of privacy.
E) Electric: Standard 'American' current. Most lines are buried but where exposed are heavily insulated, most visible/ accessible lines are also armored to prevent unauthorized interruption. Most of those of Ground Zero and definitely all of those Below have managed to tap into limited amounts of 'free / 'jacked' power - but they have to be careful not to get caught. The syndic’s security organs have no compunctions against making an example of some one who gets too greedy.
F) Food: Primarily vat grown pseudo-soy or mystery meat. Many try to suppliment their diets with balcony container gardens, but this is not generally suscessful. Imported food is very expensive and hard to find for those down on Ground Zero, with availability and qualtiy easing as one goes up.
G) Gasoline: Gas is sky high - at $20.00 a gallon - Filling stations are rare and are heavily defended with their own security contengents -There are plenty of privately owned vehicles, quite a number armed and armored - the International Association of Auto Duelists maintains a large and very active membership here. Running gun battles are not uncommon, and collateral damage is a fact of life.
H) Housing: - for a family of 4 - 1) 600 sq ft 2 bedroom/ one bath/ kitchen / living & dining room combo 2) 5,000 calories per day per family 3) 500 kilowatt hours per month 4) 500 gal water per month per family. 5) 350 hours steam in the winter. If one wants more one has to buy it with cash. One can work and still receive the BLS. Please note that the BLS does not include education.
3)Public Transport-
A) High speed elevated monorails / Skycabs: Never found below Main Level
B) Standard El / Subway : found at Ground Zero and Below -
C) Public Bus Service: no longer exists -but found at Ground Zero and up to about 30 or down to minus 10 - there are numerous, privately owned electrically powered, low speed jitneys which have taken the place of busses - fares are negotiated with the drivers
Most people walk, or take any of the numerous private cabs - taking the public transport could be worth ones life. But then again so could taking a cab. You might get in and leave only as a drugged specimen destined for organ harvesting, or worse. - yes, there IS worse.
Please don't get me wrong - Arc is a thriving, lively, ultra mega metropolis - it is a 24 hour city, with a decent economy. It is just designed to keep the poor, very poor and the rich, very rich, and ever so very privileged.
1) The BLS may be only just above starvation level, but most every one cheats, and considered it the done thing.
A family of four with both parents working full time can get by and even scratch up a more than occasional luxury - and there are at least three free gladiatorial game sessions each month. Children play on the streets or in tiny, packed earth or concrete floored pocket parks formed when buildings were demolished in the Raging Times.
2) Medical - Effective contraception is free through many street clinics, and 'buy it yourself at the spur of the moment' is readily available. Abortions are routine and there are any number of clinics that perform them, though they can be costly, and there are any number of unregistered/ unlicensed back alley clinics that do it cheaper - but at a higher risk.
Basic Health Care is not overly expensive, but it is not free for anything but contraception. How ever almost all employeers provide low cost health clinics at the place of work for their unskilled workers, and white collar staff have much better available. In Cloud Land the wealthy have access to every sort of technology one might imagine- including cloning, nano packs, and other beyond merely high tech medical
3 ) Addictions & Drugs -Most of those on the dole have one or more addictions - it is encouraged - but they are not always substance abuse problems - there is rampant compulsive gambling, addiction to pornography, shopping, shoplifting, sex, compulsive lying, addiction to violence. All of which make the Utopians rich and keep the masses under their thumbs.
Drugs of all sorts are readily available - but you can easily loose your job by going to work Under the Influence. Cause an accident and injure much less casue the death of someone while Under the Influence and the local security may well kill you on the spot, depending on the severity of the accident, and Level of the person(s) injured or killed. They may also just haul you off to become a centerpiece in the weeks arena games.
4) Education & The Unions - The free education is only till age 15, and is only a basic, and there is no truancy department, but the teachers will mentor those so inclined to make something of themselves, and many trade / skill groups have strong unions with decent apprenticeship programs.
The Prostitutes Union is one of the largest and strongest in the city - they are - as always - at war with the pimps - but as most of the pimps are backed by one of the Syndics/ Triads /Mafia's - they are rather discrete about it. They just can't afford the firepower that the Cloud Landers can. The Union is very strict about members being clean and getting regular medical checks.
The Unions do do their members many good turns, but their dues are high but they have been known to back stab their membership.
5) Bars and Sex shows - Bars have no age limits, neither do the ubiquitous sex shows though the sex related businesses have stiff cover charges. However many of the bgars are also family affairs where a family can get a relatively inexpensive meal out with booze and have games like darts, pool tables, skee ball, and other 'harmless' kid oriented games handy. Some handle OTB- off track betting and televise the races - since few Grounders can get tickets to the auto or horse races.
6) Casinos - they are numerous, found even in all but the worst parts of the South Third and a number are like the family oriented bars - a place for families to go on an outing. They are not allowed to handle OTB, but do run books on non- race sporting events - boxing, gladatorial games, football, soccer, baseball, basketball, golfing.
7) Gangs - Neighborhood gamgs carve out nitches arouhnd their home bases, and rumbles with bordering gangs are common place. They wear disctinctive clothing or colors, sport elabotate tattooes or hair styles. It is common to see them riding in tricked out vehicles or walking about in small goups patroling their turf.
Children also range about in Jackal Packs, though they are mostly confined to the south east side around the docks and the unreclaimed areas. They are highly dangerous, and are willing to 'human wave' a target. It is said they practice cannibalism, though it has not been proved. They also roam certain sections of the Down Below with apparent immunity from the predations of the Morlocks
8) The Docks - they cover all of the east end of the South Third and some of the Center section too. It is a very lucrative place to work and such opening as come up are quickly filled. Getting a job on a freighter that might take one away from Arc is a goal for many - freighter captains know they can always find eager if unskilled hands here.
The fishing fleet also pays well, as they are a profitable industry. But the work is hazardous and it's know unknown for even on the mammoth "factory" trawlers for three to four of the crew to die on a tour.

Hotel Baltimore.

The building itself has an Italian Renaissance-style exterior facade of brown brick, sandstone and panels of terra cotta details
The five-story central court features glazed brick, ornamental cast iron, tiling, marble, and dark woods, capped by a skylight that allows the court to be flooded with natural light. The two centrally located elevators in the building are cage style elevators surrounded by wrought-iron grillwork rather than masonry. They go up to the fifth floor from the east and west side respectively.
The building features two geometric patterned staircases, one at each end. There are masses of ornately designed wrought-iron railings which are supposed to give the illusion of hanging vegetation and are found throughout the building. Freestanding mail-chutes are also made out of ironwork.
The walls are made of pale glazed brick, the marble used in the staircase was imported from and the floors are composed of kiln glazed tile.

Don't bother asking my birth name. My father ensured that a death certificate would be filled out in that name to ensure an opportunity for me to live. He also arranged for me to be raised by a decent family, a good gesture considering that he knew he was headed for his death a decade before it even came upon him. I wasn't even one when this happened. I found out about all of this when the last part of my father's very hidden estate came to me in the form of a key and an address, which turned out to be a bank and a safety deposit box containing the information on my biological ancestry. Included was a paternity test kit, a sample of my dad's preserved blood and hair, and his complete genetic profile. Everything matched up. I couldn't refute the results.
My father was one of the greatest heroes living in Arc City. He was called the Laughing Cape since he was always seen in a mirthful mood. He said he knew when he would die, and when the mob came to kill him, with a battalion worth of cape-killer weapons to eliminate him, he still laughed, his last words being "About Damn Time." Apparently he had been right, his vision of his own death giving him years worth of freedom from fear. Also, even with everything they through at him, he still managed to die on his feet.
My father had a highly adaptive biology. It essentially allowed him to possess the physical abilities necessary to meet every situation. When he died, my father could have moved a mountain, literally. I seem to be really, really good with hand-eye coordination. That said, growing up away from Arc and the rather minute expression of my inherited gift has at least given me a shot at living normally. For that, I will always be thankful to my father.
Legal Name: James Robert McDulny
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 182 lbs.
Eyes: Grey-Green
Hair: Auburn
Age: 28
Occupation: Programmer. In Arc, it means constantly traveling up and down the levels, performing the necessary maintenance that they don't trust to the lower natives and that they can't pay to the upper natives. It also means constant security checks, and five different ID cards to get through the day. The pay is decent for an outsider, but it's only as steady as his continuing usefulness, and forcible retirement is rumored to be a bitch.
Powers: James gained part of his father's physio-cerebral cellular adaption. For a computer programmer, it means technopathy when he feels safe enough to try to get away with it, which is next to never, and great aim at darts when he's drunk, which isn't too useful in a place like Arc if you don't know how to handle yourself and the situation.

Name: Anton Ivanovich
Height: 177cm
Weight: 75kg
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Light brown
Age: 35
Occupation: Former owner of Kharet Industries (a large arms manufacturing firm)
Abilities: Anton possesses the unique gift of being able to control the consistency, density and elasticity of his own body mass down to a sub-atomic level. This allows him to harden himself to the point where no projectile could pass through him or to loosen the binding forces on his molecules to the point where he could pass through solid objects.
Additionally, Anton can shift his form of matter between solid, liquid and gas, although he can only achieve such if he can vary his body temperature appropriately. For example, if he's in freezing conditions he would not be able to transform into a gas and his liquidating would be very limited.
By controlling his elasticity, Anton can stretch his limbs and absorb blunt forces but this is limited to how far he can stretch his atomic bonds without breaking them.
Background: Anton received sole ownership of his father's company at the tender age of twenty-four. Despite his youth, Anton had been groomed to run the company since he was a small child and after eleven years of financial and corporate success for Kharet Industries, Anton had proven an excellent successor.
Unfortunately for Anton, the mod didn't take kindly to a large company that wasn't under their control. The board of directors had fallen into the mob's pocket and eventually they gave Anton the option of selling the company to them or losing his life. Dismayed at the thought of losing his father's company but equally concerned about staying alive, Anton sold his company and descended from the high life of Utopia living to a modest life on the 110th level. Whilst currently being unemployed, Anton does possess a fair amount of financial assets and holdings outside of arc that bring him a steady income, enough for him to live comfortably.
Whilst Anton had discovered his abilities during his late teens, he rarely used them when he was in Arc as his father had made it abundantly clear that doing so would put his life in real danger. And so he had learned to master his skills far away from people, using the excuse of holidays and such to get out of Arc. Now with no company and a bitter taste in his mouth, Anton is finding it increasingly difficult to accept the injustices he sees every day.

(Got an invite from KAtG)
Legal Name: Ziyoshiyua Ashida
Height: 5'9"
Weight: 143 lbs.
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Spiked silver
Age: 24
Occupation: Nothing permanent. He works wherever he can, whenever he can. For the few in the know, namely the leaders of the gangs, he is very efficient at removing competition. Generally, the highest level he goes is Main. Anything higher and he fears his safety.
Powers: His father was, or at least they tell him, was a detective, who specialized in interrogation, Lie to Me style. (http://www.fox.com/lietome/) In Ziyo, this ability has gone a few steps farther, allowing him to hear thoughts, sift through memories, and even in the weak-minded, alter their actions.

Glad to see ya here, Kag. I take it your char's powers are telepathic in nature?
Assington, been a while since we RP'd together. Good to see you here too.
Yes welcome y'all. And please feel free to ask any questions. Arc at Ground Zero is easy to describe if you are anywhere but the North Third - call it polluted, grimy, mostly raining, semi squalid and you've got the feel - think Blade Runner...or better yet just grab a gander at the three pages of pics I've linked to.
and I've put some more information up - in post # 4

Name: Dayborne
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 172lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Black, cropped closely to his skull
Age: 26
Abilities: Control of fire, to a degree. With a single match, he can create a small, localised firestorm, or merely singe the eyebrows of a target.
Background: He had an affinity with fire. He always had, as long as he could remember. For years he’d wanted to be a fire-fighter, before someone had patiently explained to him that fire-fighters don’t do anything other than put fires out.
He was called Dayborne. If he ever had a first name, no-one had ever told him. Most people just called him Dayborne. His parents had treated him with a kind of affectionate neglect, usually allowing him to do what he wanted, so long as he didn’t wind up in too much trouble. He’d attended the free schooling until he’d hit 15, and then dropped out of education. By then, Dayborne had been running with low-level street thugs for a couple of years, but his parents had always been determined that he’d keep up at least with the free schooling, if nothing else.
The smattering of learning he did possess had enabled him to climb in to a mid-level role in a gang, sending the more expendable members out on protection rackets, drug deals and the like – but he preferred carrying out any hits the gang had to make himself. His chosen method was always fire. Dayborne needed no weapons, not when use a simple friction match, ignited with a flick of his thumbnail, to set an entire room on fire. As such, he always carries at least one box of matches on his person, avoiding conventional weaponry altogether.
Dayborne tends to wear clothes that aren’t flammable, avoiding synthetic materials like polyester which would leave himself vulnerable to his own, often barely-controlled, abilities. He’s seen too many people go up like a torch when their cheap clothing catches fire and burns. Still, the clothes Dayborne does wear smell of smoke and often look slightly singed. His green eyes are slightly wild, and often look like they’re reflecting flames, even when there are none around him.
Hope this is ok, not too powerful and stuff.
No, thats fine Tag
*** I'd just like to remind every one that you do not have to be a native of Arc, you can have come from elsewhere - just to vist - perhaps distant relatives; to explore the new and often - in other nations illicit, if not outright illegal -experiences; searching for some one or thing; running from some one or the law.

Hey, I like the outsider/unrecognized-exiled-son-of-a-local-dead-hero bit. Adds the classical vengeance bit. I can even work in the "You Killed My Father, Prepare to Die" line with this.
Giggles madly. Don't worry I got to, just yesterday, call another character the 'Dread Pirate"

Name: Alexander George Exesleigh
Height: 6’1”
Weight: 13st
Eye Colour: Pale grey/blue
Hair: Dark brown, normally pushed back behind the ears, cut to just before it curls at the back
Skin Colour: Pale
Address: Penthouse, Level 401, North-17
Occupation: Owner, The Exesleigh Institute.
Power: Neutrality. Superhuman abilities and their effects do not function in his immediate vicinity. This trait was inherited from his father, who in turn inherited it from his father who was the founder of the Institute and, co-incidentally, an extremely discreet individual known as Combine. Combine was appropriately named as a facilitator and mediator for superpowered individuals and was succeeded in this position by his son, Alexander’s father, under the pseudonym Splice until the Raging Times. Before he died, some fifteen years ago, Splice ensured that his own successor, Alexander, had access to his network of contacts under the false name of Union.
The Junction:
Combine’s original meeting place is still functional and watched over by a security group paid discreetly and untraceably, in cash, and is used as neutral ground between those gangs and other organisations willing to use it. Understandably without the backing of superpowered individuals the decisions made by Combine, Splice and Union’s representatives, are often ignored once the gang leaders are back on the street and the facility serves more as a neutral location for the employment of freelancers, meetings between significant members of gangs, and a strictly enforced twelve hour (and not one minute longer) safe haven. Exesleigh mostly leaves the Junction to the administration of the Arbiters and Union has not been seen there for some years.
The Junction is located on Ground Zero and has a dozen tunnel exits spread across several miles.
The Exesleigh Institute:
Arc’s foremost chemical and pharmacological research and production organisation and one of the single wealthiest companies in Arc supplying high-end drugs (recreational and medical) to the inhabitants of Utopia, mid-level drugs to the Mainers, and low-end substances to the inhabitants of the lower levels.
The Institute has not expanded into permanently damaging drugs such as heroin but rather produces its own highly addictive but ‘safe’ drugs. These were seen by many Utopians as being almost a miracle achievement and by shareholders as the best thing to happen since bread, sliced or not, as the substances destined for the low levels provided the addiction of heroin without the fatal consequences and thus produced a market that did not simply die out but kept buying for decades.
The Institute claims to have a high concern for “community values” and “responsible commercialism”, operating a number of free clinics in the lower levels to provide vaccines (for those diseases whose medication is not produced by the Institute), testing for STDs (medication sold in the clinic), and a very basic level of healthcare (keeping the drug-buying population alive for longer). It provides a large number of scholarships for the brightest and best of the Mainers and below, giving the very best education and a required period of employment in the Institute and conveniently removing their abilities from revolutionary organisations in the Low Zone.

Oh, and Shal, how many levels does the Clouds have above 125?
Yers I invited him, most readily - Some of the hyper buildings go as high as 2 miles up ( figure 25' to a level just to be safe ) and the Mega tower has 800!

(Received invitation from King Arthur the Great)
Name: Summer Ishimura (no relation to my other character in the other Heroes-related RP)
Age: 20
Height: 5' 7"
Weight: 120lbs
Eyes: Brown
Hair: Black, shoulder-length
Abilities: Auditory Illusions. Summer is able to create illusions of sound (or lack of) that can be perceived by individuals and certain animals. As this ability is based on telepathy, it has no effect on non-living things such as electronic devices. The auditory illusions can be strong enough to have cause intense emotional effects such as terror, happiness, or calmness in the individual. If she so chooses, she can also perceive her own illusions.
Background: Born without the ability to speak, Summer has always been one to keep to herself since childhood. As a child, she was bullied and picked on by other children for her disability, until the day her ability first manifested and she accidentally created the illusion of a horrific, demonic scream directed to a particularly aggressive boy. The experience had an extremely traumatic effect on the boy, and he was never seen again from that day forward. Summer chooses to use sign language to communicate despite having the ability to create illusions of sound, mostly out of fear about how others will react to her ability.
Occupation: Summer lives alone in a residential complex on Level 88, where she spends her time maintaining a small garden of fruits and vegetables, and sells the excess in the market area. Much of her life is in solitude tending to her home garden, where she uses her gift of auditory illusion to create music to pass the time.
Side note: When/if Summer "speaks" with her illusion ability, I will try to use an appropriate font/text color to help convey the emotion of the "speech". For people whose characters do not understand sign-language, Summer will probably opt for illusion-speech.

Height: 5'3"
Weight: 121 lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown
Apparent Age: 43
Occupation: Owner and Operator of Sound Mind and Body, a folk and alternative medicine shop on the ground floor of the Hot l Baltimore.
Powers: Life Force Manipulation, Maggie is able to absorb and dispense life energy from and to others. Mainly used to heal other by drawing on her store of life energy, she can speed up the healing process or even restore youth to a person by revitalizing their cells. Life energy, however, is restricted by the same physical laws, namely the Law of Conservation of Energy. When she expends life energy, her own life force is depleted. Maggie will age and deteriorate visibly if enough energy is expended.
In order to preserve her own life and still be able to use her powers, Maggie must absorb life energy from other living things. They might be plant or animal, sentient or otherwise. Her target must be living. Maggie can absorb entirely absorb a person’s life force in a minute if she can maintain constant contact. If the person breaks free, they’re still in danger because once a connection had been made and Maggie remains close she can still draw in life energy at a reduced rate. It would take her two minutes in this form.

Kor, what exactly is the limit of the Psionic Energy Manipulation and the Regeneration abilities?
I have to add one thing
The mobs of the Raging Time went after the super villains just as much as they did the heroes. They might have been harder to find, until their subordinates began giving them up to save their own hides ( which usually didn't work in the end )
And the wholesale killings the cornered villains did when over run by the mobs just made the mobs that much wilder and confirmed the mobs belief that any one "Other" was Evil and to be utterly crushed.
It has always been rumored among the Utopians that someone had a mind controllers, but this will never be confirmed as if there was they were ended when their usefulness ended.
The Raging Time almost seemed to spring up out of nowhere, the vicious campaign taking hold in mere days. The mobs were unstoppable, and I would have to say that fully one half of the city was destroyed. And even 20 odd years later the visible results still have not been completely erased, as noted elsewhere.

__________________
He or She can manipulate their Psionic Energy into small weapons like clubs, swords, bow & arrows, shields and the like as well as energy blast & wings for flight similair to the kind She Bat used to do. The Regeneration is for healing both physically and mentally, it starts with or without the characters help when they are hurt. Their Regeneration lasts until he or she is completely healed, where as their Psionic Energy will last a maxium of thirty minutes used continually. However though the characters two personalities are not aware of each others existance, they are aware that they black out if they use their Psionic Energy for the maxium time so they will try to avoid using it that long if possible.

Interesting...
Name: 'Bullet'
Age: Unknown, looks mid-twenties
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 183 lbs
Hair: None
Eyes: Blue
Race: Caucasian
The Powers:
Bullet really doesn't have a power per-se, but he's unique in that his nerve synapses fire at an ungodly rate to yield sub-nano reaction times and hyper-surgical dexterity. His adrenal glands are also larger than usual. He really doesn't seem to age either, but that might just be the lack of hair on his part.
The Background:
Those dark times were hard on everyone, especially the so-called 'Heroes'. Drastic times called for drastic measures, and such measures were undertaken. The man known as 'Bullet' was born the son of a prostitute, but was concieved as the son of a hero. Mom didn't know dad's name, and as such Bullet had no idea either, in fact he really has no idea what his roots really are. Bullet's mother died when he was young, in his early teens, and that set him on his current path. He'd always been a gifted mechanic, mainly because of his extreme dexterity and an eye for detail. That love of machine carried over into an illegal trade he's come to embrace: gunsmithing. A master craftsman, Bullet's works are highly sought-after by mafia bosses and wealthy citizens alike. It all started when a friend brought him a gun to look at, after which Bullet took it apart in under five seconds. Re-assembly was faster, and his interest grew. He hooked up with an arms dealer in the lower levels, learning all that he could about firearms and applying his fabrication skills from the machine shop he'd worked at for years with his incredible dexterity to create his own definition of form and function. He's also brought back several classic designs from the way-back-when.
Such talent usually gets noticed, and in this city thing that threaten the upper class are squashed as soon as possible. Such was the case with the black-market gun-smith and his beloved trade. When the raid went down Bullet discovered he had another talent: shooting. His precision hands and keen eyes allowed him to put a round where-ever he desired, and those reflexes of his kept him out of the way of the enemy's muzzles. The gunfight ended badly for the security forces, and now Bullet plies another trade, that of a foot courier, where his agility and reflexes can be put to good use.
Word has gotten around, though. The man who out-shot a crack raid team and escaped without a scratch would be a useful addition to any gang, organized or otherwise. Bullet, however, wants two things: to be able to build guns in peace, and to be left alone. The messenger job keeps the money coming in, since he's less prone to drop a hundred stories to his doom than most of his kind, as well as keeping him moving a step ahead of his enemies in the security firms. He hates what the upper class of Arc stand for, and how they stay in power. He hates that he can't enjoy a hobby because someone feels threatened by his metal-working prowess. He hates the fact that he has to deliver messages for a living. Most of all, Bullet hates that he's the only man he knows that has the ability and the means to do something about it. Right behind that is how much he hates the fact that one man can't overthrow a society that brought down the greatest of heroes.
The man is a gun wizard of the highest caliber (pun lol), and draws his nickname from both his permanently bald head and his un-natural accuracy with anything that chambers his namesake. What he lacks is motivation to do anything about his current situation, and enough expeirence to feel confident in fighting the powers that be. Neither hero nor villian, he takes the gray area of not giving a damn and runs with it, too fond of his vices to devote himself to being a paragon, while not willing to be evil enough to be classified as a full-blown menace either, but that last part depends on who you ask since he's taken to spray-painting the lens of every security camera he comes across during his runnings.

Okay...I see one person pulled out and WA apparently took the spot although I got an invite (Unfortunately I was traveling most of the day today or throwing snowballs in the Atlanta snow) so hmmm....
I am going to assume that my characters are still back up if anyone else drops out for the moment. (I have zero way of introducing them into the current mess anyway considering their backstory.) But I am going to introduce them
(note slight changes from the orginal but only in name)
Character 1:
Robert Adal Montague formally James Katha aka 'The Eye'
Age: 63 (stated 52)
Height: 5' 6"
Weight: 109 lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: White/None
Power: A powerful empath who can utilize his empathic powers and a few questions to figure out what most people actually think or are about to do.
Background
Katha built a fortune 'advising' clients within Arc's underworld about what possible competitors and allies were going to do. Long believed dead by most in Arc after the destruction of his condo. In reality, Katha hid a good deal of money off shore and vanished with his god daughter becoming his own nephew who then 'inherited' his accounts.
Character 2: Kathleen Dart (Formerly Kathleen Dart Norstem).
Age:29
Height:5'10"
Eyes: Green
Hair: Brown
Kathleen Dart is assumed to be the personal assistant of Mr. Montague. Actually quite the opposite is true, Montague is fulfilling a promise made to Kathleen when they stood outside the ruins of her parents home after the mob murdered her father, mother, and siblings. Her mother being of the reclusive Dart family, inherited a rather large international firm, that makes plastic and most of those AC to DC converters you seem to need for everything. Kathleen wants revenge upon Arc for the murder of her family, and has both the technical background and the vast wealth to do so. She just lacks focus on how to do it.
Power: None known to have manifested.
Edit: Glad to see you WA...haven't they given you a life time RP acheivement award yet???
You are in A & H, as per my telegram

A&H, I think I'll award you the second annual Unofficial NS Terry Prachett Award for Most Humorous Existence for that horrible, innane, and mind-bendingly HI-larious switchboard paragraph.
The Port Olympus Central Exchange was a tracing nightmare. Between the Vrakians building it, the Dyellians trying to bug it, the Klatchian Marshals anti-bugging it, and then Vrakians trying to stop anyone from interfering further with it, they had created a system that existed nowhere else. The software control did not just flip a few transistors on a solid state board like every other touch tone routing system, but actually sent a code to an electrically controlled motor that rotated twelve tumbler rings to form a connection, effectively rotary dialing the number you just touch toned in. When you pinged the software to tell you the line, it didn’t give you the exchange, just a phone number (Tending to be, in Klatchian fashion, either a Pizza Parlor or a Korean takeout place) If you knew what you were doing, (AKA were a Klatchian Intel service) you had to call a completely different number and enter an automated phone system hell that randomly assigned the menu option numbers and had a tendency to switch permanently into Varkian. The key was to get to the 'system extension menu' and use the last four digits of the phone number first supplied to you to get the appropriate switch. But just using the number was insufficent. First one had to subtract the ‘area’ code and add in the birthday of the Vrakian King, but not on Tuesdays, subtracting the age of Cyro (if the resulting for digits can be found in pie) then take the square root of answer, the last digit is the exponent for the original last four digits to find the switch number. Calling the switch on its appropriate extension should then reveal where the call was originating from. Unless the switch motor controller was one of the three thousand DIG978 which drop the call you were tracing and give the number of a Vrakian Hat Shop called Vrakian Intelligence as the place of origin. This little Dyellian joke (or design flaw) caused more hang ups, awkward silence, and completely off the wall conversations than any other known source. The shop owner recorded his phone calls and posted the funniest on his blog. (Sorry had to add the Klatchian spin here somewhere)

Just an FY for every one:
The line in the sky is the opening of the chorus for Eyes Of Nostradamus by Al Stewart, found on his Past, Present and Future album
Nostradamus was a Hero long before the Raging Time- he died ( supposedly ) some 20 years before at an great old age - He had the ability to see the future, the past and into the hearts of man.
He would write those words across the night sky to warn evil doers of his knowing of their evil ways.

As a clarification, The Eye of Nostradamas is really just an NPC at the moment. Shal and I are just bandying about names and such to flesh out the world and breathe life into it.
The Eye of Nostradamus was a Golden Age hero. He died of old age long before the Raging Times. He was known to prognosticate about the future, the past, and even into the hearts of Men all the while staring with sightlessly white eyes. And while I think it'd be funnier to have Ol'Nostra flying blind about in the Nostradamusplane with a smoke canister mounted to the belly...Shal insists he used drones that released a 'scattering layer' of smoke or something that he could then project the words against. He'd use the words a reminder to the citizens and do-badders to keep their noses clean.

Apparently I have viral meningitis (fortunately not bacterial, which is the really nasty one) or something irritatingly similar and my current batch of drugs should be wearing off in a few hours.
With any luck I should be able to get a post up within the next couple of days, to give you a broad timeframe. Sorry for all this, chaps.
(Incidentally, has anyone ever noticed that "chaps" and "chaos" are only one letter apart?)

Wow, that's a bit unlucky there. Hope the recovery goes well, viruses can be nasty buggers too.
I've always found that chaps are a fundamental part of chaos.
*Winces* at your diagnosis. I'm glad to hear that it is the lesser sort, and cringing to hear that it is meningitis of either sort.
And being a Texan and a life long horsewoman, I say that chaps are integral for avoiding chaos, particularly the type caused by jumping cholla (http://instruct.uwo.ca/earth-sci/fieldlog/cargo/ian/ian_clara_cholla2.jpg) < or as some call them 'JC cactus' - yes they are particularly nasty - "J***s Ch***t it just jumped out and went through my jeans!"
Bah, I just lost all that hard work...so second time should be the charm...

I thought Chaos was caused by Airforce 1st Lieutenants....
I'm afraid you just threw a wrench in my plans Shal...My character is going to respond to that in a very...very...very...Klatchian way
Just remember it's not any where near the north end, and one would have to get there, and get through that mob which is over a hundred thousand strong in that area.
Please also remember that the primary thoroughfares are a mile apart, and that except for the buildings that face the major thoroughfares, the inner areas of those mile on a side squares are chaotically and randomly built - essentially unmapable as what streets and allyways that penetrate them twist and turn, and dead end in the most unlikely of places. Yes there are many a sky scraper within those "jumbles" but on the South Third - but within the 'jumbles' none go over thirty stories - though many along the perimenter go up to sixty stories.
As has been mentioned before, in the South Third there are no mega-towers, no Cloud Lander towers, but the Central Third and North Third ( especially ) have a large number of them.

Your expecting a Personal intervention?
Nah, just one of the devices originally designed to terrorize the Cloudies is going to be used against the Proles.
Hmmm, interesting - and this comment is NOT meant to shut your ideas downm not at all! But I have a feeling - based on having seen a small well behaved riot, but riot none the less - that they might not terrify as easily as one might thing.
I am very much of the opinion that the larger a number of people that you get together in such a situation- the lower each individual IQ goes. Untill you get something that is mindless and truly inhuman. People in the grip of 'mob mentality' do things --and revel in it - that they Never would have done otherwise.
And these are a people that have a history of getting what they want by such mob violence. To a great degree it's been inocculated into them that it's acceptable.

After talking with Shal, she and I have decided to broaden Maggie's powers a bit.
Biophysical Control:
The hero has the ability to consciously alter the physiology of a target. This is accomplished by sheer force of will and does not require any physical action on the hero's part. The result of any form of this Power is permanent. (What's the point of healing somebody if he's just going to drop dead later, right?) The actual ongoing effects continue for as long as the hero continues to use his Power. Once this is done, the target's natural healing abilities and rates revert to normal.
Subareas
Healing: The hero can cure the damage caused by wounds, trauma, toxins, and disease. At most basic skill and effort, the hero can handle broken bones, non-terminal disease, and simple wounds. With moderate skill and effort, the hero can handle physical trauma, wounds to organs, non-fatal poisoning, and terminal diseases. With great skill and effort, the hero can handle mortal wounds, coronary attacks, strokes, toxic poisoning, and massive physical trauma. The Power seals the body and returns any still-living tissues to health. It cannot replace lost tissue.
Regeneration: The hero has the ability to heal (as above) and can recreate large areas of lost tissue, such as severed limbs or destroyed organs. This ability takes great time, effort, and strength to accomplish.
Decay: The hero can accelerate the cellular collapse of body tissue. The target becomes leprous, dies, and quickly crumbles to dust if the Power is used long enough.
Disruption: The Power can upset the smooth functioning of the physiology. The target suffers anything from minor discomfort (nausea, chills) to fatal trauma (coronary attack). The more destrutive the the method, the more effort and strength required.
Aging: The Power can halt, accelerate, or reverse the aging process. As the victim's age changes, physiology and mental capacities change as well. While the Power can function as a "Fountain of Youth", it can also be used to kill through old age or regression to protoplasm.
Biophysical Sense
Biopathy: The Hero can sense the apparent life energy around her, including living beings. With this the hero can also sense abnormalities such as wounds or sicknesses in an individual but also can sense emotions.
I'm also making a change to her "Real name." She had been Margaret Sinclaire. I'm now going to make her 'real name' Margaret Eiradottir. Her alias is still Maggie Sound.
For those of you familiar, that write up of his is, yes, per the Ultimate Powers Handbook/ Marvel Superheroes RP system. It is just about, hands down, the best system for defining Super Powers in a way that makes them playable.

Note:
Port Olympus, of the Federated Klatchian Coast is based on Amph-Mork although only loosely. As such the pre-eminent school of that city trains Assassins. Of course most either serve in the government as Klatchian Marshals or in their family businesses, a few use their family wealth to just play...
So yes Kathleen is becoming a version of Batman but more like the original one who would shot down people without a whim.
You had to mention Pratchett...oh we are so in for it...
General comment.
I didn't grow up reading many comics, watch the Saturday morning shows, graphic novels etc.. I knew about Superman/ Green Lantern/ Scarlet witch, etc, but it was at the remove of occasionally hearing by much younger brothers friends mention them. In college I read a little then, a sort of “sporadic catch an issue that the dorm mates brought in”, hear them discussing it...but it wasn't until the early 80's when the Marvel Superhero RPG came out that I really invested any real interest in superheroes.
I had been RPGing& GMing D&D since it came out in the early 70's and our group was always willing to give any decent sounding RPing system a try. And our group was fortunate in that we had three good GM's who were also long time addicts of the SuperHero genre. I still don't read many comics book or graphic novels, and the various retcons, redos, and restarts, etc have left me behind on any detailed level. Though I tried to follow the X-men ( the original ) and Dark Knight. ( the returned and older batman )
Warning: Watchmen Spoilers and discussion under the white, read at your peril.
That said may I please bitchslap Oz and Dr. Manhattan to a few dimensions over. The world smartest man is an arrogant, overweening jerk, who presumes to have the wisdom to know what is best for mankind. And John? John is a freaking wuss for going along with him. Intellect has never been nor ever will be synonymous with wisdom.
That said, I enjoyed the movie immensely. I went in with no preconceptions, since I had never even heard of the graphic novel until I caught the first trailer. And like some critics who have panned it as unwatchable, I found it excellently done, and not at all disjointed by the flashbacks. But then again I have a better intellect and recall than most critics. No more violent than any of the X-men movies. Overly sexualized? No more so than 300, and many an other movie I could name.
And given the level of combat skills shown by the “unpowered” – i.e. every one of the Masks in the movie But Dr. Manhattan – I’d have to say that they had, under the Marvel System, the Power of Martial Supremacy
In the MARVEL game system, Fighting is considered an ability, not a Power. However, this Power increases a hero's already-mastered Martial Arts - to dramatically higher levels and allows him to perform actions that would otherwise be impossible.
Now they all had varying levels of it, but I feel that what they demonstrated in the movie was beyond what a normal/ mundane human, even the best of the best, could do. So I do not see them as Unpowered.

You allowed a Kalatchian into your RP...Terry was included in the package...
In addition, after quickly glancing through the graphic novel, I do think that the serious, ominous threat of nuclear war was lacking in the film. However that is contextual with the original printing and very hard to communicate to any audience removed. So blaming it for failing to do the near impossible seems rather churlish.
Now then, you've been DMing and RPing since the 70's. You realize that you made me feel like a youngster around here for the first time since say 2004?
LOL I read Alas Babylon just a few years after it was first published when I was what...8 or so ? My mom wouldn't let me watch the movie On the Beach, until then either, but as I was reading & comprehending at a close to high school level by then, she relented ( also because of the Cuban missile crisis.) So, indeed, I have some idea what it is like to live with that threat imminent.
I didn't see the nuclear threat as lacking in the film; it was the unmitigated hubris of Oz and John's enabling of that which bothers me. John allowed the Villain to win, for the "good of humanity". Yeah right!
Its a personal thing mostly - "Don't tell me whats good for me! You are not my keeper"
My other sig:
"Do not confuse "duty" with what other people expect of you; they are utterly different. Duty is a debt you owe to yourself to fulfill obligations you have assumed voluntarily. Paying that debt can entail anything from years of patient work to instant willingness to die. Difficult it may be, but the reward is self-respect." Lazarus Long
The three most important R's:
Respect for One's Self / Respect for Others / Responsibility for One's Words & Actions.
And I have no problem with Terry – in moderation – it’s just now there are two of you here…

Jack found himself in a cage. The cage was moving, through a door and into what was obviously a pet shop. For some odd reason he was laying down. He tried to move….he couldn’t move…
"'Ello. I wish to register a complaint" was distantly over heard but Jack was pondering his view of the world. For some reason his head was outside of the cage and he was staring up at the cealing. What the hell is going on…
"'Ello, Polly! Mister Polly Parrot! I've got a lovely fresh cuttle fish for you if you wake up, Mr. Polly Parrot..."
Why are you screaming at me….I have half a mind to…why did you just call me Polly?
"'ELLO POLLAAAAAAAY! POLL-EE! POLLY PARROT! WAKE UP!"
Let go of me you ugly f*cker, my name isn’t Polly…Parrot…Parrot?…
*Bang* *Bang*
"TESTIIIING! TESTIIIING! THIS IS YOUR NINE-O' CLOCK ALARM CALL!"
Stop that, it hurts…you f*cker….Your dead….your dead…when I figure out how to move this...wing?
As Jack’s rather nice blue body falls to the floor he realizes…
I’m dead and in hell…and I'm a dead bird...
But none of that was important…Jack had an appointment with destiny...being immotally run in the same skit until the end of time...or people got a better sense of humor...whichever came first.

Hey all, sorry I disappeared, loooonnngg weekend. That means I've got about five days of sticking around before another, longer weekend occurs and I disappear again.
Arc is a city that covers some 600 square miles ( 30 north to south by 20 east to west ) < London covers that while N Y, L A, & Hong Kong each cover less than 500 square miles > It has a population of close to 100 Million. < None of the cities I've listed above have a population of even 10 million >
I am sorry if I gave the impression that this was the only atrocity occuring, it's not - not by a long shot. I probably should have made the magnitude of the horror more obvious.
Those who have been crushed / trampled to death by the mobs in South Third already number a thousand or more- and what hospitals there are are already overwhelmed. Some of the square mile Jumbles between the primary streets are completely ablaze, and there have been some spectacular explosions fueled by stockpiles of ammo, propane, and gas mains.
25 years ago, forces were unleashed and used by those who thought they would control it all. And those that thought they would control it all were being played, just as much as those they played
Payback is a bitch.

I think you missed my focus...displayed acts of horror such as those girls being raped...
People trampled and explosions are great for killing and maiming millions but don't have the personal feel that a televised rape.
That is getting the most airtime, 'cause like you said it's that 'personal feel' but no, thats not the only site where inhumanity is being broadcast live.
Over at the intersections of Avenue L and 24th street, there are some youngesters beating some wheel chair bound elders to death with clubs, while onlookers cheer. In another place gang members are burning the captured members of a rival gang in a massive bonfire...
Feel free to imagine every despicible act humans are possible of and it is most likely happening some where in Arc right now and most likely being filmed/ broadcast.
Just a FYI, I am trying to get those at Hot l Baltimore to work together, as a team...though of course it's not mandatory.
And A&H, are you guys at the warehouse fair game for one part or another of the riots?

It's also ten times easier for me to just read what you have to tell me here, in the OOC thread. This way I don't have to open a new web-page to go back to my telegrams. Whatever I've done this time you can discuss it here with the rest of our participants.
We're all adults here, and you're not going to upset me :)
Fine.
WA, you had your character go through the lobby where several people were who might have intercepted / stopped your character before he could get outside. Yet your post gave them no chance to react
Then you had your character go through the mob to where he could make a series of shots - However, that mob is so thick people can barely move - I tried to make that clear in my posts - as to the size of the mob and it's density - and my apologies if I did not.
NO I do not object to the accuracy of your characters shooting!

The armory is for a post I'm setting up for a post two or three down the line...Sort of the conclusion to the first attack of Bluebird. (Sorry but you inspired my next post with your musical anthems)
So can you send rioters against it...Yes...but it's one of those 1950's style brick and concrete framed buildings with the bottom line of windows bricked in with concrete block. Barbed wire along the intersection of the ground and first floor and a four meter high fence covered in welded corrogated steel with barbed wire across the top.
You'd need something with some pentration to get in....;)
Oh, and WA I salute your post change...why I always liked Rping with you.

Well thanks A&H. I try not to embrace the latter of your names when possible. :)
It's a simple matter of me deleting a few words and reconfiguring events. Knowing Shal she already has most of her posts written in advance anyway, or at least outlined.
As for something with penetration, would the aforementioned flat-bed truck ramming against the fence do the trick? Or are the support poles sunk deeply into the concrete, too?
WA, you didn't have to but I thank you - immensely. As you just saved our future secret headquarters - and don't worry Bullet is going to get every chance to blow mean, nasty evil people away.
It's just if Bullet had gone and done that, the mob would have torn the hotel down brick by brick to try and get to him. And these are 30 inch thick walls.
Okay now this is where I hope every one is checking in in this thread regularly - as I'd like to brainstorm a plan. I have some ideas, but they are just that, taken from as I understand characters powers - You, the players, have a fuller understanding of your characters powers and will certainly see things/ potentials/ possibilities/ out of the box thinking I am going to miss.
#1) Jane teleports the characters ( Anton, James, Jane, Maggie, Ziyo and Bullet ) to the roof, and removes access to said roof - there are no exterior fire stairs ( not required here ) and the interior ways up are easily rendered unuseable by any significant number of people. Then adds into the distraction providers
#2) A&H & Tag-the group takes advantage of the actions of A&H's drone & Tag's Fire Control Powers and the effects they produce
#3) Bullet - let him use the two really nasty weapons that Jane held in reserve so he can produce more discord around the target
#4) James - were you thinking of taking out the lighting for the area?
#5) Ziyo / Maggie / Anton & mystery guest - head for the Flat Bed and free the captured.
This is just a first suggestion- PLEASE chime in!
Alcona and Hubris
10-03-2009, 22:21
Actually er...the drone is going to be attempting piss people off and kill off some of the more 'graphic' rioters...And the buidling is about to lose most of the windows near the intersection...:( (Sorry victim's die too...this girl has some real issues...)
And begin to introduce the bluebird theme...
Kathleen is trying to gather the rioters by focusing their anger on the drone and have them 'chase' it for retribution...which should pull them away from the hotel and the surrounding streets. And leave more than a few dead bodies.
So I offer option 3a) After the crowd moves on, they do a quick job of reinforcing the bottom entrances and try to find better arms to defend themselves with and possibly disguise the building has having been already burned out.
I didn't know how lethal you were going to get- killing off a bunch of the rioters is no problem for me, nor is lost windown -though if you kill the Jokers, where is the groups incentive to act? Besides there are a lot of rioters to target without targeting the Jokers.
Drones are a known factor, and even one that killed a sizeable number might not get enough of the rioters to chase after it to make a dent in the numbers in the area. I was going to help ensure an obvious 'draw them away' target by use of Jane in conjunction with the various efforts of Bullet- using some seriously nasty weaponry, ( not that we know they are coming of course ) your drones, Ziyo's ability of mental influnce and the ( again -unknown by the group- but helpfull ) efforts of Dayborne.
That way, most every one in the rp, and every one in the area, has a part to play in the heroics.
The group has ways and means for leaving. Janes is a Adept level Teleport and can move the group of Anton, James, Bullet, Ziyo and Maggie in one go round.
I was thinking of having the lower secton indeed get damanged, then looks - after the riot ends -boarded up/ unoccupied.
I don't see how, other than the use of a forcefield we can suddenly do a "quick job" of reinforcing the building - not as long as the mobs out there that is - and yes I am probably being dense and you meaning later, after the riot has ended.

Hmm...Well my character has no reason to save them...
Right...I will just make bluebird miss...and change my last post accordingly.

And no reason to kill them either, unless you are trying to show how inhumane your character is.

Currently proposed next post...(formerly part of my last post but it was causing too much problems)
The Hot l Biltmore Intersection
The crowds likely didn’t even notice the music…as the craft banked over the street and began to follow it.
In come the bluebirds
with bitter melodies
to sever all your heartstrings
As they light in the trees
No, the scene being played out on the flatbed was too fun to notice the music. The fire was too bright to notice the flash…but the howl…the howl of an air to ground missile…they would hear that…They would see it for a moment…as it slammed...
Damn it... the voice screamed. The missle went high over the top of vehicle and it slammed into the wall of the building across the street. The blast wave went out sweeping the life of everyone on that corner...
At sixty feet from impact everyone was dead, caused by their brain being smashed into their skull. Of course the wave of small bits of human, cage, and truck would scythe outward, but the bodies wouldn’t stop the bits. The blast wave would smack any body out of the way of the wave of debris leaving them to those outside of the eighty foot range to feel the full brunt of the blast debries. (Only the metal bed and body of the flatbed truck would protect some.)
At one hundred and eighty feet the remaining debries would have slowed to subsonic speed, only breaking bones and slicing unprotected arteries. At this distance, the blast wave would make you deaf for awhile, make your eyes bleed, and shatter glass.
Beyond that the blast wave would cause you to feel odd before the sound of the explosion reached your ears. Some people would get splattered by stuff blown upwards on a parabolic course. Not deadly unless the pointy end impaled you.
The besty turned in the air above the intersection to look down upon its missed target.
The Ritz-Carlton
Kathleen scowled...Damn it I a f*cking lock on that truck...second rate equipment...

And no reason to kill them either, unless you are trying to show how inhumane your character is.
Actually she hates the city...even though she really, really hates the rapists...she has little empathy for their victims in some ways it is the act she is destroying...(note the victim in the current post likely dies)
Of course if presented with someone within the city acting heroicly...saving someone else at risk to themselves...
That might make her less...."burn the whole thing down..."
(Realise she is an anti-hero here...but turning her into a hero is perfectly acceptable to her creator)
I was concerned with the fact that 10 posts ago you said that it would take ten minutes to reach the area. Some of those interveining posts were merely informational posts, not time covering posts, and some were simultaneous with one another, also not time spanning.
It felt like you were not giving the other players time to post - some of our players are in Australia, others in other time zones.
I thank you for splitting the post up. Your next post if fine.
Yes I know the ten minutes the group has is going to largely be spent on other things, and the plan will be cobbled together, hasty and not as good as could be, but this way they get a chance to do some actions within that ten minutes.
I know this may feel unfair, as you are here and ready to post, but I'd prefer it if we just slow down a little and let everyone have a chance. It's discourageing to make it on-line and find that everyone has moved the action way ahead of one.
We are all good enough players to not need to post 'just because you can' - I know I am doing alot, but what I am trying to do, as GM, is to give more description, and in sidereal information that the players can use to enhance their own posting.
Who knows one of the players might like the idea that one of the third floor balconies has a large geranium planter, and decides that tipping it over on to the heads of rioters below would be a gas...
Or Dayborne might want to do something inventive with the blazing building across the street, etc and so on.
Not that I think in any way that our players aren't capable of thinking of such stuff themselves, but expanding the 'picture' is part of what I feel my job is as GM.

My interpertation of the passage of relative post timming was diffrent that's all. *shrugs*
edit: (Unfortunatly this is really fell into a 'driving' post more than I had originally conceved it to be. So post timing of this type of event is semi-critical to the story...)
It's if you want her to go that way. I am doing this so that we all have fun, that we get to enjoy our characters. I don't want to require/ make any one be a Hero or Villian.
I don't really believe in totally black and white Heroes - I think painting oneself in to either corner is unfun. But then again there are those who want to be black and white about it.
Darklight is not unmitigated white, she can't be any more. She was a good little girlscout Hero when she graduated the Academy, and until the RT really was a goody two shoes of the first water. The RT really really did a number on her, especially what it taught her about herself.
But she can no more Not be a Hero than she can not breathe. (erm, more on that later ; - )
However as it's going to be said in IC "You assholes are going to get the Hero you deserve"
and no I didn't, at first, realise that it was a play on the line in Dark Knight. Some one else sideswiped me with that observation.

This is fine to me, but Ziyo isn't exactly the best group combat fighter, thus why he generally finds work as a hitman for the gangs.

One, I think your going a bit darker on her that she was...the victims would have been just collateral damage caused by the tools she had available to punish the rapists.
I tend to actually play characters basing them on a concept (sometimes with some added detail here and there). Sometimes characters grow and change...other times they really just wind up slicing and dicing...
It depends on the thread really...if opportunies or events will cause a character to change so be it...if not, so be it...sometimes I create the opportunties but only when it fits with the rest of the story.

#4) Not just that. Fire's probably too advanced. I was actually going to have Jimmy start hacking Arc's computer network, and use altered video footage to make the mobs think that the villains had done more than just kidnap Hannah ^O. Basically, I want to try tricking the mob into thinking that every major player is back, and that they're sitting in the way of very angry, very powerful forces.
Art, you lost me there - by lighting, I meant use James' Power to crash the electrical grid in the area, yes there is a lot of firelight coming from that burning building, but fire plays on to the primitive side of man, and makes him uneasy. And with every other distraction / weirdness/ harrassment going on it might well be just too much and get through even the mob mentality.
The mob is not watching video footage, the CloudLanders are, but not the mob, they are out in the streets there is no way for them to see such "footage". And if you are talking about mass projecting it, I really am stymied about how to go about it ( on to the night sky, the side of a building? )- but I am probably not seeing what you are thinking of.
Now in some of the Central & North Thirds some other groups might be watching some big screen's of the nights doing, and you could alter what those were showing, but I don't think that would affect those down here.
Another thing I could see him doing is having any electrical outlet in the area over load and send streamers of electictity flashing out...street lights, etc..."oh looks human ants...Zot!"
**************************************
Kage, I wasn't thinking of Ziyo having to fight, but project the mental "wave" of "leave us alone" or "Don't see us, we aren't here" - kind of a walking "these aren't the droids you are looking for" as Ziyo, Maggie et al head out to the flatbed.

No, you're right. But instead of overloading the lighting, sending it pulsing in Morse codes or arranging the lights to spell messages for those below could freak them out a little. If not, it could just be used to isolate the tactical advantage for the group to concentrate fire on particular groups while the rest are literally left in the dark... (smiles wickedly).
The problem with Morse codes - is who is going to understand them? I don't think any one in the mob could, much less be interested in doing so at the moment - though I could well be wrong, and there be a renegade troop of boyscouts down there out for mischief?
How much could the darkness be targeted - wwe can say that there is not much moonlight, but with the office tower across the street burning there is some light, but that is a very good and useable idea.

I can adapt to whatever choice you make in the matter. Bullet is fairly self-sufficient, since he prefers to operate alone and under the radar. Should he need to, he can ascend to the roof under his own power (somehow) or simply hit the rooftops and start running to vanish into the backdrop of the city.
If you combine the 'Altiar' character from 'Assassins' Creed' and Mark Walhberg's 'Shooter' character you'd be pretty close to what I've come up with for Bullet. Add a little 'Riddick' mentality and you'd be closer to spot-on, but I try to avoid such comparisons for a reason.
I tried not to be too generous in what Jane could have collected in her five years back in the city, and I gave her only two really bad ass weapons.

in 700 win mag (http://www.snipercentral.com/pm_sm.htm) with ten extra mags – 55 rounds total
I figured those two cost her alot and she placed the order almost a year before she got her hands on them. Had to have special permission ( ie extra bribes ) from the Combine, the syndic that controls this part of South Third.
I figure Bullet on the roof with those two could lay down an interdiction zone that even the worst of the mob might think twice about entering into.

Sorry, but I think I've lost the plot slightly with this OOC discussion - I'm not sure how much of it relates to the current posts in the IC thread.
The overall story arc - the return of both Hero's and Villians to Arc...
and the way it related to the current posts is:
1) The main sub plots for those in and around Hot l Baltimore
Anton / Maggie / James / Ziyo / Jane / Bullet / Dayborne -
Primary - staying alive through the riot.
Secondary - rescuing the Jokers
2) Newbish Delight / Alcona & Hubris / Kormanthor -
ND is having his character so some over riot control stuff
A&H has had a armed drone begin interacting with the rioters
Kor has yet to actively bring his character in.
I hope I'm understanding what you asked / commented on Tag, and if I didn't please let me know.
I know that Dayborne is not in contact with the reluctant ( to varying degrees ) Heros in the Hotel, but the actions you have him doing - or it is suggested in your post that he is getting ready to use- would be something those with in the Hotel could use as part of a distraction for their efforts - IE taking advantage of 'happen stance'.
Hey WA, I think that you missed this part of my second to last post: # 62
In the seconds that followed I sent the same message to Bullet as I had to Ziyo, and by the same method. We would need his skill with weapons.
But don't edit, - I've replied, and realised that I did not color code that line in my post, which I ahve now corrected.

There are multiple million pluss people riots going on and I am sure, given the nature of rioters some have gone negative ( below ground ) where most of the Jokers life, or into the shanty town south of Arc where others live

The entry hall / southern most part of the lobby is roughly 15 feet wide between the stairs going up the east wall and the restaurant that opens off the west wall. It is roughly 28 feet long.
BK has come down the stairs and is standing facing the main doors to the lobby. He is looking out the broken glass with his back to most every one
Jane is closest, may be a yard - Jane is now facing him - she's not going to let him get behind her!
Jane had first been facing east, talking to James, she turned to talk to Anton who had come from the restaurant behind her, then turned yet again to talk to Bullet who is due north of her by about 12-15 feet ( I can't see any of them "huddled up" but him especially I see not getting any too close )
James is on Jane’s left, and probably closest to Jane and BK just a yard plus a touch so away - he is to BK's left and slightly behind.
But be sure to realize that BK is keeping tabs on every one. You don't become a major Villain by not being wary and observant.
Anton is to Janes and BK's right - again a yard plus a touch away from BK and Jane
Maggie to the right and back maybe a full ten feet
Bullet to the north - 15 ft- ish as noted above
and MM and Ziyo to the left and behind of Jane- by about eight feet maybe a little more - and that puts them along the stairs that BK has come down - kind of between ( but not directly so ) BK and Bullet.

[ Tanaara this is what I have come up with since sending you the TG earlier today ]
Since Adrian was headed for Hot I Baltimore and the riot I would have to say that the door he entered as mist was actually the main doors to the lobby of Hot I Baltimore. So when Adrian enters he would enter towards where James is standing then float up the stairs behind him before he makes himself known.
He has come to help the hero's save the Jokers, but because he doesn't know what their reaction would be to him suddenly changing to his human form he will form a mist face ( with features differant from his own to protect his idenity ) through which he can speak to the hero's and BK.

Everybody: My post about Suggestion was to help define telepathy (according to me) and just ensure I stay within boundaries later on.
Kor: Yeah, mental attack directed at Adrian. I don't think he would have well developed defenses, but that's up to you. If he has none, I would imagine that
A) I would have a sudden rush of memories pour into Ziyo,
B) Ziyo would take control by pushing your mind out of the way, leaving your character completely susceptible to Suggestion,
C) I would be able to see/hear your thoughts
D) I would see some before a cobbled defense is thrown up
or any combination of the above
Kagetora - I in general do not list as part of Telepathy the ability to sense other living presences. -
( or the presence of other minds unless the Telepath is actively seeing other minds or is for some reason completely unshielded and can not prevent the presence of other minds impinging upon them in various manners - the emenations of other telepaths actively ranging outwards or being in close proximity to non telepath minds and the unconscious ' chatter ' they produce by simply thinking)
However given your variety of abilities - Your form of telepathy could potentially pick up other minds so I have no problem with it.
Jane will pick him up via her ability ( which is a subset of her form of Telepathy) to sense the presence of Powers - not what sort of Powers save in the most general of catagories - but that some one Powered is within her range.
Also to let every one know as Jane is my character I am doing every thing I can to let Your characters step to the fore and deal with things. I'm kind of the backstop -
Your characters need to step up and make things happen - this is about your characters not mine

Well I generally include the ability to know that someone is there, but knowing who they are, what they're thinking, etc, requires investigation.
But that's why I'm trying to specifically define what my character can and cannot do early on.

Shal had me do a bit of research on it because she knows I know just enough physics to be dangerous.
A M2..or some such gun should have a decible rating of around 150 decibels. Now, no obstructions or yes bigger noises, it should take about five to six miles for it to disappiate quietly to a whisper (20 dB). Now it might be a recognizeable whisper level sound...but not really loud.
It'd need to be...perhaps...half that distance or less to be heard over the riot. The tail of the riot around 21B might turn around in fear, but at the interscetion, they probably won't notice.
I'd put the riot at 95 dBs. So...roughly....it'd need to be within three miles on an open plain and cold air, but with buildings and warm air, let alone fires it'd harder to hear at distance. Oh...warm air messes up the speed of sound, and how well it translates across the medium because of air density. Sorry, I took that bit of curious physics for granted.

Alcona and Hubris
21-03-2009, 20:34
Two blocks is less approximately two miles based on the rough street grid in south third.
Add in that the sound is distinctly higher pitched, repetitive, and from an elevated location and that you have highly reflective surfaces such as glass, stone, and brick above six or so feet. Your dissipative effects caused by natural un-interrupted wave prorogation is actually not going to be the same in this situation because of the reflective channeling of the masonry and glass surfaces of the urban environment.
I'm not sure how large the Temp effect difference from say 20 C standard to 30 -45 C is going to have on dispensation. But considering the rather small change in density, enough to cause a Rayleigh circulation obviously, I'm not sure what the effect of audio degradation would be. Yes it won't be heard by anyone in the immediate vicinity of the fire or in the audio shadow perhaps.
Will it be noticed inside the building? Depends on how heavy those anti-riot shutters are and also the door.
I'll ignore all the interesting effects caused by it being mounted on a moving aircraft at the moment since it is a moving sound source which would cause some even more confusion and change in pitch over the firing pattern.
However, as this post was really intended to show, my post was not done without some concept of the noise levels and sound dispensation physics involved.
LOl every one calm down. I just didn't know how much it would carry over the noise of over 100,000 plus people being assholes and through 36 inch thick brick and steel walls.
My science knowledge leans heavily toward biology, not physics.

Tag - as you are out in the street, but fairly farther north of the intersection by a hundred feet - maybe a hundred and fifty at most -( but really no more than that, given where you said you were )
Of those inside, Bullet and Maggie are the most protected.
BK, Anton, Jane the least,
Ziyo, May, James and Adrian more so.
Mostly I'd suggest that every one vacate the premises, as the Hotel is about to have a much taller building come down on them.

Also, Catawaba, I'm sending one to you.
WA - The B is possibly were Bullet could end up- either against one of those two iron support structures. But as I mentioned before he and Maggie are the two least likely to be affected.
Kor, Kage - the A&Z shows about where you are sitting / standing on the stairs.
May, in her floating chair, is by the brick area 'under the stairs' - and Maggie is across from her ( but like Bullet, has a solid brick wall between her and the shock wave - the rest of us are getting the non protection of alreadly broken out glass and riot shutters ( which are not solid but a ultra heavy mesh)
J is the set of balustrade ironworks that Jane is going to be tossed into.
Art - Sorry I don't have a picture of the area where James is standing - but he might well be thrown on to the first steps of the stairs , or back into the door to the pub.
The explosion is coming from the south west - so if that is the center of the clock we're ( the hotel that is ) between 1 and 2

You described in your post that the missile was strong enough to be used against reinforced concrete bunkers...
It was quite effective in pushing the second, more powerful explosive into a load bearing beam of the structure where it exploded, not against a reinforced concrete bunker, but against a civilian high-rise. All of the energy meant to tear and rend asunder reinforced concrete turned the thin walls of the structure, and the metal covering, into a bloom of debris.
And mentioned specifically a load bearing beam ( see bolding ).
Given the state of construction and repair of buildings in the South Third etc, I am making a GM's call - the building is going down. And like a tree that's had a bite taken out of it by a lumberjacks axe, it is going down in the direction the bite got taken out of it - in this case to the northeast.
And given that I had not mentioned it specifically - I'd only mentioned the heights of the:
1) Hot l Baltimore - 5 stories above ground - but overly tall stories and thick floors between due to old building practices - right at about 100 ft in height
2) the towering inferno - some 12 stories - about 130 ft in height.
Buildings 3 & 4 - were intended to be taller - so I am going to say that those buildings are about 20- 25 stories - about 250 ft tall or so.
Now I've described Avenue B and 21st streets as being major thoroughfares so let say they are 90 ft wide each, and then you add in the additional length since it's at a diagonal... Still at 250 ft in height, a fair amount is going to land on the Hot l Baltimore.
A building weight of 150,000 metric tons for the Tour Montparnasse - a 60 story building -
so it would not be out of line to say that this building weighs in at 1/3rd that - 50,000 metric tons - but that I think is overdoing it due to it's truly shoddy construction, so we could just say that some 40,000 metric tons of debris is going to come down and around that whole area. With a goodly chunk coming down on the Hot l Baltimore.
The building might well remain standing for the most part - the exterior walls are 30 solid inches thick and the interior ones 20 inches and solid as well, but the structure of the roof, with that massive skylight, I have sincere doubts about.
Okay just to make sure - there was no one on the roof of the Hot l Baltimore at the time of the missile hitting.
and as it took me almost 3 hours to write up the above post, my decission as GM still stands, the building is going to fall and it is going to fall in the direction of the Hot l Baltimore.
Please realise that there will be severe IC reprecussions for the character's actions. The Cloud Landers are not stupid, they had very high tech available to them, and they will know who did this.

Note: I edited my OOC post Shal because I had misread the thread...then I went back and corrected it after rereading it
pardon my mistake. :(.
And nothing stated above do I argue with...(although the building typically wouldn't topple not enough tension in the floors above) but actually shear drop into a pile of rubble but we can say that this instance it topples since the overall effect is going to be everyone in Hot l Biltmore is going to be dead. (Think of the Building the Michigan Milita hit years ago, they blew out a good chunk of the lower floors and the upper floors collapsed downwards. The whole thing in our situation would likely collapse and form a nice sudden twenty five story concrete avalance to decend through the intersection and into the Hot l Biltmore.
Of course, character wise Montague has (pending permission I suppose) forced Kathleen the deadly to intervene by playing Kamikaze with the Betsy about thirty or so seconds later and drop the whole thing in an attempt to save those on the Hot l Biltmore's roof.

Also Kor -
I need you to lay out exactly what you mean by :
Physical Regeneration: Healing?
Shape Shifting : you seem to be using this like Antons ( assington) power of: Anton possesses the unique gift of being able to control the consistency, density and elasticity of his own body mass down to a sub-atomic level. This allows him to harden himself to the point where no projectile could pass through him or to loosen the binding forces on his molecules to the point where he could pass through solid objects.
If this is what it is that is fine - if it includes other abilities such as changing your self to look like a dog, a dragon or a dame then please detail it out.
Psionic Energy Manipulation: Okay this is the one I am most concerned about. I realkly would like a fuller explanation and examples of specifics.
It sounds - in your last post - like you used telekensis - to snatch away Ziyos ear plugs -
Also none of your listed abilities include changing into poisonous gas.

Bravo on the post, Arty. That was great!
Okay every one this arc if the Story of Arc is ended. A bit premature, and certainly not as I have been guiding things up to.
I haven't decided to start the next as a new thread, or simply continue using the old one.
The next will start roughly 6 weeks later. The Cloud Landers rolled in their heavy duty security and secured everything in their flat out brutal and uncompromising manner. The death toll in that area of the South Third alone was over a hundred and fifty thousand. Equally many disappeared in to the slave mines, though of course the official explanation is that they have been rehomed elsewhere what with all the destruction that occured in the South Third.
Hot l Batimore is not more, between the collapse of the other building one it - but primarily due to the preset explosives that collapsed it completely, taking it's secrets with it forever.
Jane, May, Maggie, BK, James none have been seen since and the known residents of Hot l Baltimore are believed to be dead.
More information in my next IC post.

Physical Regeneration is the ability of the body to heal itself.
Shape Shifting is Adrians ability to change his body into anything he wishes to as long as the mass is about the same as his original form. His power is similiar ( but not exact ) to Odo on Star Trek Deep Space 9.
Psionic Energy Manipulation in DND it is used to form a way of travel similiar to wormhole travel and a host of other very powerful abilities. However I have down sized its abilities so that in Adrians case it is a mental power that Adrian uses to form weapons like crossbow, bow and arrow, club, as well as forming wings for flight while in human form. He can also use it to grab and hold small to medium sized things but not large or huge things. This why he could have pulled the ear plugs out of Ziyo's ears but could not have used his power to stop the building from falling on the crowd or the hero's for that matter. Also it is limited in that if he uses it more than 30 minutes it causes
him to transform into his female self which also causes him to forget he was ever male until she again uses psionics for more then 30 minutes.

Nice rerwite Kor, and thank you.
However while I can in no way claim to have seen many of the DS9 episodes, I don't remember Odo being able to change himself into poisonous gass. I think he could make himself resemble mostly whatever he wished but I don't think he could change his molecular composition. And thats a whole 'nother ability than shape shifting.
On the Psionic Energy Manipulation - you are describing broad based psionics, in my estimation
what Adrian intended to do with Ziyos ear plugs is an example of the psionic ability of Telekensis. Some thing that Jane also has. The ability to move instantaeously from point A to point B is called Teleportation
Not every Psionic can use every psionic ability, some are limited to just one maybe two, the rare few can call on many abilities. You might find it useful to deleniate what psionic powers Adrian does and does not have. -as it is possible to have the ability to alter the nature of elements via a sub set of Telekensis called Elemental Conversion. ( to explain the poison gas )

How strong of a Hemp plant was used in the making of this rope? It might of actually worked as advertised, albeit uncomfortably so.

Have you tried to launch an overthrow under the monarch's irresponsible party-child? Every royal family should have at least one. Find him/her and elevate the chosen drunk royal!
Unfortuantely the Monarchs in the SCA have only 6 months reigns, and are chosen by combat - by "Right of Arms" - yes only our heavy weapons fighters can become King or Queen ( their consort holds the cross title - king / queen - but the one who wins Crown Tourney is King / Queen by Right of Arms.)
And let me tell you - any one who wins that Tourney is one tough person- it is, for obvious reasons - the hardest fought Tourney out there and there are many an otherwise honourable fighter that start 'rhino hiding' in that arena.
'Rhino hiding' is the contemptuous term given to fighters who don't call the hits they recieve- it's the honor system, and most adhere to it very carefully, but between adrenal rush and the drive to win the highest peerage the Society offers...

And if you let it hit your eyes, you have two options at that point.

Odo's original form is liquid so I don't think mists of differant types is that much of a stretch. The truth is I never expected a " Hero " to attack another hero that was trying to save a life. Because of that I may have over reacted. Besides since I rewrote it, should it still be a problem?
I never said Adrian could use Psionics to move from point A to point B. I was only telling you of one of the powers that I deleted.
I have already deleted alot of the powers associated with psionics in DND which is where I got them from. Ziyo really aggravated me trying to take over my character while Adrian was trying to save lives. I haven't heard anyone saying anything to him about that.
Maybe Ziyo thought he could takeover Adrians fortune and get a girl fiend he could control to boot by causing him to transform into Nicolle? I don't know for sure what his motivations were, but in my opinion hero's shouldn't attack other hero's for any reason.
When I designed Adrian I tried to include weaknesses in him so he would have limitations. But now I feel like he may not be powerful enough since Ziyo thought he could just waltz in there and dominate him without him having any chance to defend himself.

I have already deleted alot of the powers associated with psionics in DND which is where I got them from. Ziyo really aggravated me trying to take over my character while Adrian was trying to save lives. A) I haven't heard anyone saying anything to him about that.
B) Maybe Ziyo thought he could takeover Adrians fortune and get a girl fiend he could control to boot by causing him to transform into Nicolle? I don't know for sure what his motivations were, but in my opinion hero's shouldn't attack other hero's for any reason.
When I designed Adrian I tried to include weaknesses in him so he would have limitations. C) But now I feel like he may not be powerful enough since Ziyo thought he could just waltz in there and dominate him without him having any chance to defend himself.
A) First off you need to take into account the fact that your character appeared as if out of nowhere among a group of people who did NOT know your character or his true intentions. Seriously if I had been playing Jane as a real character istead of the Gm's character, you would have been attacked in a much more nasty fashion.
You may know and we other players may know that your character is a good guy, BUT our characters do Not. And it is poor gaming to require them to know things they have no way of knowing - and as GM, if they had, I would have raised a stink.
B) Ziyo didn't know Adrian from Adam's off ox - he did not attack your character for any motives such as that - See my response above to that. Knowing things about characters anther character could not have learned is Meta Gaming - a form of Godmodding. If you will notice in my posts I tried not to use characters names until MY character had learned them.
C) Ziyo dealt with Adrian in a relatively gentle fashion given the circumstances. And he did not automatically take over your character - you had every change to write Adrian as resisting, as possibly having mental defenses to keep Ziyo out of his head.
Please remember that they were under attack, paranoid and uncertain of every one else around them.
ALSO:
I am not trying to complain, I am trying to understand how you percieve yoru powers working - and going from liquid to gas is not necessarily a logical jump- not in the way you titled the power.
Look at how Assingtons character -Anton- power works - he can alter himself to go from a solid to a gas, but it is Not shape changing as shapeshifting/ shapechanging as it is generally defined.
Having psionic powers is fine - all I am saying is you really need to list which ones you have. They can be really impressive and effective if used inventively
If you will go here and go to the third post down (http://atddm.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=3242#3242) thats a list of D&D D20 style Psionic powers - you are absolutely welcome to have all of those listed - some are duplicates, as I garnered them from various sources.
Boy I knew I didn't like the new D&D D20 system, this little roam through just brought it home.

All righty then... Options include:
1. We find a 30mm chin gun from an old A-10
2. We drop a tank on it from a considerable height
3. Locate some sort of nuke
4. Conjure a black hole
5. Bring down a building on it
6. We ambush the Controller
I'm out of ideas :) Most of those aren't really do-able anyway. The only real weakness I can come up with is to kill this Controller guy and hope the boogey-man shuts down.

Been thinking on this, and what else would work:
7. Teleport it to the middle of the sun
8. Somebody place themselves in a geostationary orbit, then fly straight at the sucker when it's temporarily trapped.
9. Magic. Magic can do everything.
10. Spontaneous Existence Failure inducement of the creature.
11. Feed Ryan Seacrest to the thing.
