In one of the many towns of the Free People's Republic of Foreland, in one of the many houses found within that one of many towns, there happened to be a young, pretty girl who lived there by the name of Victoria Middleton. The Middletons were a modest family that paid their taxes, obeyed the laws, and possibly voted for Isabella Cullen during the last election, if Victoria's parents had bothered to vote at all back then. Victoria was a child in tune with the usual love of the latest music and movies but also had a passion for intellectual pursuits and was fascinated by the natural wonders of the world. At her school, Victoria had some pretty good marks, always handed in her work, and never got into any trouble with other students. She was pretty popular and had plenty of friends, all of them were varied in personalities and perceptions of schoolwork and so forth, but Victoria expected that.

It happened to be one seemingly innocent day that Victoria was told about the foreign exchange program to Motokata that was recently unveiled. Sometimes, they'd allow students to look into such programs and see if they were right for them. Victoria was certainly interested by the idea of studying in Motokata, and her friends noticed her interest. "You're going to sign up, right?" Her friend, Constantine, had said as they looked at one of the posters. "Of course. I'd love to see Motokata." Victoria replied, noticing that the fine print read something about a government ministry from Motokata.

Victoria turned out to be one of the several students to put up an application, which took some time to process, and she was soon told that she had been accepted into the program. All of her friends congratulated her and told her to have fun, while she packed up some items and went to the airport for the plane to Motokata. Her parents gave her the usual. Be careful, respect the customs, don't get into anything you don't know about. For Victoria, this wouldn't be a problem. She was a goody good, well, to an extent.

As Victoria got aboard the plane that would take her to Motokata, she wondered how her time would be there. Only time could really tell such things.

The Middletons were a modest family that paid their taxes, obeyed the laws, and possibly voted for Isabella Cullen during the last election, if Victoria's parents had bothered to vote at all back then. Victoria was a child in tune with the usual love of the latest music and movies but also had a passion for intellectual pursuits and was fascinated by the natural wonders of the world. At her school, Victoria had some pretty good marks, always handed in her work, and never got into any trouble with other students. She was pretty popular and had plenty of friends, all of them were varied in personalities and perceptions of schoolwork and so forth, but Victoria expected that.

It happened to be one seemingly innocent day that Victoria was told about the foreign exchange program to Motokata that was recently unveiled. Sometimes, they'd allow students to look into such programs and see if they were right for them. Victoria was certainly interested by the idea of studying in Motokata, and her friends noticed her interest. "You're going to sign up, right?" Victoria replied, noticing that the fine print read something about a government ministry from Motokata.

Victoria turned out to be one of the several students to put up an application, which took some time to process, and she was soon told that she had been accepted into the program. All of her friends congratulated her and told her to have fun, while she packed up some items and went to the airport for the plane to Motokata. Her parents gave her the usual. Be careful, respect the customs, don't get into anything you don't know about. For Victoria, this wouldn't be a problem. She was a goody good, well, to an extent.

As Victoria got aboard the plane that would take her to Motokata, she wondered how her time would be there. Only time could really tell such things.


Aina was 16 and already married. Like many Motokatan girls she was very much in the euphoric state of "love." The diver got the others to put on their harnesses, and handed the Captain another. Leading them out in a line, he connected his harness to the first person, grabbed the end of the winch and attached them. As they lifted off, the diver wrapped his arms and legs around the sailor, securing him/her.

A large wave swept over the boat nearly taking the diver and the captain. They remained holding steady as they lifted from the water and the boat went among the waves.

The diver grabbed another crewmember and harnessed them, the winch picking them up. Up top, the second diver had recovered and awaited his turn.

One last woman was left, she was a rookie and hadn't been through this. She was terrified and clinging to something that didn't move. She slowly made her way to the diver before being swept off.

From above the Captain could see one of his crew was off. "Oh no. It's Ayame. I knew she wasn't ready for this."

"I got it!" the diver said, as he was halfway down. He reached the harness and unclipped it, falling the rest of the way into the water below.

In the water, a strobe flashed on his vest. He swam expertly, searching for the fallen woman. He caught a glimpse of something and swam forward, reaching the poor woman.

"Ma'am, are you okay?!"

"I got it!" the diver said, as he was halfway down. He reached the harness and unclipped it, falling the rest of the way into the water below.

The diver with the woman hooked her in and the winch lifted, leaving him in the water until his companion returned for him. Safely inside, the second diver returned for his comrade. After a hair-raising couple of minutes, both divers returned, and the crewchief helped them in, securing the winch and sealing the door.

"Star 4-1 inbound, 4 heavy," the copilot radioed to the carrier.

"Red Star/Star 4-1, acknowledge," the carrier's flight controller replied.

He pulled a special packet and opened it in the water, the sea around them beginning to flouresce. The Vogel shifted above them, another diver arriving on the winch. The FSS Red Star, which had launched the Vogel, still lay at anchor as the aircraft returned, laden with it's new passengers. At 900+ feet, the Red Star wasn't the largest of the fleet, and her ski-jump bow made her seem odd in contrast to the flat bows of her larger successors, but the carrier had proven her worthiness in function throughout it's service to the Commonwealth.

The Vogel landed, it's tailhook snagging the arresting cable as the engines powered down. Once it was secured, the tail ramp opened, and the crew led the rescued sailors off onto the storm-tossed deck.

"Welcome aboard the Red Star," the crew-chief welcomed them. "Stay with us as we lead you inside. We'll get y'all checked out and a hot meal!" They were met by a medical crew, which quickly ushered away their wounded crewman.

By early morning the storm began to wind down. A loud knock shook Mikuru awake. Mikuru reached into the desk drawer where her father kept a pistol. It was generally unloaded as he kept the clip elsewhere but it could still act as a deternet in the event prying looters were looking for a score. Mikuru was trained to use it but she hoped she never would outside the hunting range.

"EMS."

Mikuru peered through the peep hole. There was a large EMS truck and a buldozer outside. She opened the door.

"You in-charge?"

"My parents aren't home. I'm caring for my 4 siblings and one foreign exchange student."

"Your name?"

"Mikuru Nakano."

"Right, your mother is located at the Lantis Shelter. Your father is reported at his work site. Please gather everybody up and we'll take you to your mother."

As the storm disipated, the Red Star stood down from its action station and began to resume normal duties. A CV-30 COD was preparing to take off for the Red Star Ind. construction site, and it had made room to accomodate the rescued crew.

As it prepared for takeoff, the crewchief had a special present for them. Each recieved a Red Star service cap and a patch from their rescuers, the 88th CSAR.
