"All personnel!" the PA screamed, "Kat air raid, this is no shit!!"

Jessica and Rachel quickly returned to their quarters while Edward led the Minister back to his room. Edward loaded his Glock because he had a bad feeling something was going to happen.

Edward watched the team run by, then headed off to find Rachel and Jessica. Jessica was plainly worried about Yvgenni, and Rachel was worried about Yuri. Edward was more concerned about enemy land forces attacking.

"What in the hell is going on?!" the Premier demanded. He'd abandoned NAOC and stood in the command bunker. "Those..."

"Sir, a message from the Katangaran government," an aide informed him. "There's been a coup in their eastern forces command, and they've launched an attack after wresting control from the central government."

"Typical..." the Premier replied.

"Sir," an officer interjected, "Western border defense reports that ground forces have broken through the demarcation!"

"Sound the alert," the Premier told the base commander. "Get Fort Zukov on the horn and get us some ground support."

A Greali naval fleet was off the coast of Free United States. monitoring the Minister's stay. Now they had orders to send troops there.

The FSO agents, at the behest of the Premier, had escorted the Minister to the Command Center.

"Minister Park, it seems that your comrades have come to help you," he greeted him, motioning towards the display screens. "A Greali Marine force is on its way...a good thing too. We will have to hold out for an hour or more until the nearest Ground Forces can arrive."

"Minister Park, it seems that your comrades have come to help you," he greeted him, motioning towards the display screens. "A Greali Marine force is on its way...a good thing too. We will have to hold out for an hour or more until the nearest Ground Forces can arrive."

He looked at the Premier in disbelief. "Why are the Katangarans attacking? I thought the war ended..."

"Ground forces are approaching," Eagle Eye informed them, "Prepare for combat landings to switch ordinance."

"Wilco," Polenin said. "You heard him," he radioed his flight, "Switch out missiles for bombs."

The fighters began to land, even as flight crews wheeled out ordinance onto the runway. As soon as they landed the fighter's weapons were switched out, the medium and short-range missiles being replaced by small-diameter precision bombs.

Ramson then lead a squad to charge the flank of the enemy forces head on, hoping that the APC was blasted, there would be some bloody fighting today.....

Just as the F-22 was passing through, Colonel Polenin and his wingman were streaking towards the frontline. A mass of tanks and armored carriers were heading straight for the weakened middle encampments. Toggling his weapons systems, his WSO gave him the okay to drop in. The two F-15Es screamed over the battle-line, dropping small-diameter bombs, halting the first wave.

Just as the F-22 was passing through, Colonel Polenin and his wingman were streaking towards the frontline. Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the fighter attack, Ramson fired his anti-tank weapon and then his squad fired everything they had at the confused enemy soldiers. Another marine squad came up to the other flank and also fired.

Back in the command center, NSA Lexi walked up to her Commander-in-Chief.

"Those Marines are pretty good," she commented, noting the battle displayed on the screens.

"Yeah, they are," the Premier said as he turned to face her. His jaw almost dropped open. She was wearing full battle gear, Marine digital camo with body armor, helmet, and a G-36 rifle slung over her shoulder. Even in her mid-forties, her face retained a youthful look. "Y 'know, I love a woman in uniform."

"Slick," she rolled her eyes. "There's a Marine battalion coming in, along with the 2nd Armored Cav from Ft. Zukov..."

"You're staying here," the Premier ordered.

"C'mon," she insisted, "I know how much you want to climb into a fighter right now," Lexi goaded.

"Sam, I'd only go up with you...and you're outta uniform for flying."

She simply smiled in return, revealing two flightsuits from her pack.

Large massive Nakil tanks were entering the battle field. These were foreign made and were the best tanks in NationStates. More marines were coming up to support the armor.

As the Marines were arriving, so were the first units of the Armored Cav had also appeared. Using lightweiht Stryker vehicles, they made their way quickly to the front lines to reinforce the lines.

"We need a medic now!" yelled a sergeant, seeing him fall.

"No, go on, there are more that need your help." said Ramson to the approaching medic. Ramson then fired his light machine gun at the enemy, hoping that they would retreat.

Probably the base should be surrounded. :wink:

Yvgenni looked in disbelief as his support turned and ran back to the base. He shook it off as enemy troops began to surround the knoll they had established as their firing position. His men weren't wounded, and they had most of their ammo, but that wouldn't last for long. He called his radioman over.

"Mike-1-Juliet, this is Bravo-1-Charlie," Yvgenni radioed, "We're pinned down forward of the defensive line and cannot withdrawal. I have most of my squad along with remnants of the 3rd Security squad," he informed the base, "I will hold!"

Ramson realized that it was hopeless, he sent two squads to help Yvgenni. The squads went up, and their commander asked Yvgenni what they should do now. The paratroopers would outnumber them soon.

"Well, for now, we gotta set up a defensible position. Do you have heavy machineguns? IF so, have them protecting our flanks, and we'll take the .50 from the Humvee and use it to strengthen the center. We have a SAW guarding our rear, and space out our men to have even fields of fire in this space."

The Lieutenant summoned a Fox vehicle carrying a heavy machine gun to watch the flank. Another squad arrived arrived with a movable grenade launcher. Some of the marines had shotguns as last resort. Some of the marines dug holes so they could hide in them.

"Well, now we just wait," Yvgenni told the Marine commander. He ducked incoming fire and got into a firing position.

The Premier was less than pleased as he stared at the grainy image of the Katangaran president. Both men were at a lose as to how this could have happened; though the Katangarans believed that the general who led the attack, General Grant, was acting out of revenge for the death of his wife and child. They had been killed in a bombing raid on the Katangaran capital, and the general had been the leading opposition against reconciliation.

"It seems like you decided to visit at the wrong time," he turned to Minister Park. He looked him over and waved the sergeant-at-arms to come forward. "Get the Minister a sidearm," he instructed.

"Yes sir."

The marines nodded and waited, tensely. Many were exhausted and grateful for this.

Yvgenni made sure their positions were as dug in as possible, and rationed out ammunition; they would run low if they were cut off for very long. The initial push seemed to have halted, but that could only mean an intense attack was inevitable. He called the base again, but almost half of a tank company was between them and the base, reinforced by three infantry companies.

"Eh, it's mostly for show," the Premier assured the Minister. "I don't think they'll ever get into the base, but they'll try..." his eyes wandered to the threat display, "And who's that stranded unit?"

"Sir, 516th CSAR, along with some Greali Marines," the General answered.

"Yvgenni," Congressman Govena said as he entered the room. His expression fell.

Ramson rationed the ammunition, not that they had to, a lot of it was used in the last firefight on the hill, and the new squad barely broke through to supply their remaining ammunition. He could now see the enemy pushing again. At least they had advantage of high ground.

The Greali marines opened fire, and all hell broke loose. The anti-tank weapon was fired again and again at the tanks until the tanks were all disabled, or until the operator ran out of rounds.

Yvgenni's similar elation was erased as he heard a roar of engines coming from the West. A flight of EF-2000 Eurofighters were approaching, moving in to engage the F-22s. At that moment, the attack helicopters appeared over the treeline, firing Hellfire rockets at them. Yvgenni shouted for them to take cover as the first four hit, tearing trees from their roots and sending clouds of dirt into the air.

"We need cover now!" Yvgenni shouted into the radio.

"Break off." said the lead pilot. The F-22s quickly split and headed toward the Eurofighters. Both planes fired missiles at the targets, then flew off quickly to engage the attack helicopters.

Three marines were killed by the hellfire missiles. Ramson heard Yvgenni yell, and he prayed for the same.

Polenin's F-15 and his wingman's brushed the treetops as they rocketed towards the helicopters. Thumbing the weapons safety, he fired a Sidewinder, his wingman doing the same. He thumbed over to his 20mm cannon and took out another helicopter with a two-second burst. The fighters thundered over the Knoll, their engines leaving white contrails as they climbed for altitude.

The other Greali pilots flew their planes and used their cannons to mow the helicopters down. Ramson below cheered and took the time to shoot down a helicopter with his grenade launcher.

"Get down," Yvgenni hissed as artillery fire erupted from over the ridge. There was an ominous whistle as the shells approached, impacting all around the Knoll.

Ramson cursed silently when one of his men was killed by the artillery shells, but he waited for the enemy to come....

The squad opened up on the approaching enemy company. The enemy was a large target in the middle of day light, which was good. Ramson fired, and felt his victims go down.

Ramson called fore reinforcements now that the enemy had retreated, giving the allies plenty of time. Two more marine squads raced across unto the hill and dug in.

Yvgenni was glad to see some reinforcements, and his fist orders were to tend to the dead and the wounded, setting up an area for the bodies. Next, he confiscated ammo and divied it up among them once more, before setting down next to Yuri. The two hadn't spoken to each other for a while, with more pressing matters on their minds.

There were about thirteen dead, twelve wounded. Two whole squads were decimated.

Yvgenni did what he could for the wounded, said silent prayers over the dead, and moved along to deal with the survivors. Darkness was fast approaching, and it was a safe bet that a night assault would be imminent. He cursed that his squad hadn't had the foresight to bring NOD with them.

A squadron of Nightstriker Bombers were being escorted by F-22s and some F-44 Interceptors were to bomb the enemy ground forces in hopes of halting their already successful offensive. Yvgenni squeezed the trigger of his rifle and heard the dreaded 'click' of an empty magazine. He felt into his pockets, but he already knew there were none to be had. Tossing it dejectedly on the ground, he retrieved his sidearm, a .40 P226.

A few minutes later, a HH-60 Pave Hawk lifted off from the helipad as SF troops tried to flag down the pilot. He didn't heed them, however, and headed towards the Knoll.

"Fire!" yelled Ramson. The grenade launcher fired its remaining grenades at the APC, hopefully that would stop it.

From overhead, the thrum of a helicopter could be heard. Yvgenni and Yuri looked up to see a Pave Hawk dodging ground fire, pulling maneuvers he didn't think was possible in a helicopter. It was moving almost like a fighter, he thought. It landed dead center of the Knoll, and boxes of supplies began to be disgorged from the cabin by a crew member.

Just in the nick of time. Ramson's squad rushed over and grabbed the supplies while another squad covered them.

Yvgenni dashed over himself to secure ammo and supplies for his own squad, dodging incoming small fire as he made a bee-line for the helicopter. He stole a glance at the pilot, to see what kind of person was that crazy, and stopped mid-thought; it was the Premier, he was sure of it, a stoic and serious expression on his face. He collected an ammo box and glanced at the crewman; it was the NSA...Ms. Lexi. Yvgenni couldn't believe what was happening and stood there dumbfounded.

"Get moving, airman!" she yelled, "We can't hover here forever!"

"Yes, Ma'am!" he answered, collecting more supplies before heading back to the line. He didn't know how he was gonna explain it. The helicopter roared overhead and was gone in a moment, heading back for the base.

The marines were quickly passed out and laid. They were set to detonate yet unless one of the marines triggered a reaction, so everyone was safe.

As night fell, the fighting grew less intense. The forces farther back were brought forward, letting the foremost troops withdraw first. after a dozen yards or so, these troops took up new positions as the linemen withdrew. They continued to withdraw this way, getting closer to base while leaving the enemy behind.

The first mines began to detonate, probably convincing the enemy to stop before going across the mine field. The Greali marines retreated back also.

"Looks like they're having fun," Yvgenni whispered to Dawson. He signaled for his radioman.

"Mike-1-Charlie, this is Bravo-1-Juliet," he radioed. "Friendlies at the Western gate, requesting you hold fire and open the doors."

"Bravo-1-Juliet, Mike-1-Charlie, welcome home, boys," the controller's voice said as they approached the perimeter of the base.

"Thanks." muttered the marine commander as his exhausted men arrived at the air base. They could hear the sound of mines going off in the distance. With the enemy taking the hill, that would tightened the enemy hold around the air base.

Medics and other aid personnel (mostly non-combatants) ushered the men forward with bottles of water and medical aid in ready supply. Yvgenni found Yuri in the ensuing chaos and patted his head. It was only then that he removed his helmet and looked at Jessica's picture inside. His eyes shot open, where was she? With Yuri as an able companion, the two went of in search of their girls.

Rachel was holding a pistol and was manning a window, along with Jessica and two Greali marines.

Yvgenni found a group of SF troops and walked up to them, Yuri in tow.

"Hey, I'm looking for Minister Park's daughters, have you seen them?" he asked.

"We were with one a bit back," said one, "She was giving sniper support for us...We got split up, I dunno where she is..."

"I heard from Able that they're in the HSS building," said his companion. "Check with the watch commander there."

"I will, thanks," Yvgenni said, taking off at a trot.

He soon arrived at the building, and after some difficulty in finding the WC, learned of the lookout point they were at. Yvgenni and Yuri bounded the stairwells, too impatient to wait for an elevator.

"Jessica?!" Yvgenni called, "Jessica, where are you?"

"Rachel!!" Yuri joined in, "Rachel!"

Jessica turned, distracted by the yells. It was Yvgenni and Yuri. "We're down the hall!"

The other marines chuckled and walked off to leave the two couples.

Yvgenni was the first to reach the door, and he had noticed the two Marines chuckling to themselves. Whatever, he thought I'm not sleeping alone tonight. He opened the door and gave Jessica a weary "I just crawled through Hell," smile as he walked towards her. A second later, Yuri was grinning bashfully at Rachel.

"Gone for a couple of days and here you are with a couple of Marines," Yvgenni joked as he scooped Jessica into his arms, "Miss me?"

Yvgenni was the first to reach the door, and he had noticed the two Marines chuckling to themselves. Whatever, he thought I'm not sleeping alone tonight. "Y'know, I really thought I might never see you again," he whispered so the others wouldn't hear.

"Well, the lines are pretty static. The Kat's have 'em on the western flank, and we've stopped them here..." he answered, "We'll have to wait it out, I think. The insurrection shouldn't last."

Sara and Mark had been in talks for an entire day, speaking both with Katangaran officials, the President, the Premier and the Politburo. As Sara called them; the Trifecta. She was weary, and both were escorted by Commonwealth Marines through the base. Sara had heard of Yvgenni's return, and wanted to make sure he was okay. Mark walked alongside her, and both were glad to be away from the negotiations for the time being. There was a tentative lull in the battle, as the Katangaran general had to now defend his western flank as well. She found the building they were in and walked up the flight of stairs, supported by Mark's arm.

"Hullo...?" she called once they'd gotten to the top. "Hullo...?"

Jessica turned away after hearing the "hullo". "Who is it?"

"It's your favorite diplomat," Sara called, "Hello?"

"We're over here," Yvgenni called out, walking over to the door.

"Hey Sara." said Jessica, managing to open the door before Yvgenni.

"Hi Jessica," Sara smiled lightly. Mark was looking over her shoulder, "Mark and I've been in negotiations all day, so when we got a break and I heard Yvgenni got back all right, I thought I'd check up on y'all."

"Well, aside from the shooting, we're all fine." said Jessica.

"Well, yeah, I suppose," Sara chuckled nervously. "The negotiations seem to be going well...and there's evidence of a breakdown in leadership for the Rebel forces," she informed them. "Who knows, this lull in the fighting might be permanent."

"Really? Those were rebels?"

"Y-yeah," Sara said, wondering if any of this was considered confidential. "One of the Katangaran Army generals staged a coup, taking control of the provincial government in the area and launching this attack. Katangaran Republic soldiers are fighting the insurrectionists on their western flank, and we've stopped their push here."

"I'm surprised the Katangarans didn't join their rebel comrades." commented Rachel.

An eye for an eye makes the world blind..."

Meanwhile, the marine commander, coordinated with a armor battalion to counter attack the rebel's now nearly static advance. Fifty Nakil tanks plus four hundred marines struck hard with the support of the Greali bombers and gunships.

The 3rd Armored supported the attack, launching a similar strike on the right flank of the Katangaran lines.

"Everything is alright. Lets get some sleep."

They were not the only ones fast asleep. Only Edward lay awake thinking and listening to the gunfire in the distance.

There was a large 'whumph' from a blast close by, and Yvgenni sat up straight, his pistol in his hand. He looked around, they were nearby howitzers, firing on the Rebel positions that had dug themselves in on the ridges surrounding the base. Yvgenni muttered something about the GDA and trailed back to sleep.

Finally, morning came. Edward quickly woke and left the quarters to get some a report on what had happened during the night.

Yvgenni woke after Edward, hearing him leave the room. The artillery fire had ceased sometime in the night, and there hadn't been any alerts sounded, either. Perhaps the rebellion was in its last stages, halted by the combined efforts of the once-warring countries. That heartened him a bit; the countries were coming together against a common foe...was there any greater hope for peace, then?

It was the true that the rebels had weakened. The Greali launched a massive counterattack at midnight and pushed the rebels a mile back before their resistance finally halted the Greali.

Yvgenni got back into his uniform and wandered down to the unit command post. He found a Captain at the radio station and reported in.

"Has there been any progress against the Rebels, sir?"

"A lot, actually, Sergeant...the Rebels seem on the brink of defeat. As our Greali comrades and our own counterattacks have pushed them back, Katangaran Federalist forces have made great gains on their front."

He led the way, with Daniel and Alisa bringing up the rear behind Yuri and Rachel. Snickering from the back let Yvgenni know that the two were going to torment Yuri a bit more.

"They've been my friends forever," he explained, "So I'll just tease 'em about being madly in love with one another." he said so they could hear. "I swear, one day at our HQ, I saw them snogging."

"Nice to see you still in one piece, Comrade," he said, extending his hand. "Your forces helped a great deal."

The marine, surprised by the outburst from Alisha and Daniel greeted Yvgenni."Thanks, well, yours the same. That was hell of a battle." He shook Yvgenni's hand. "Well, my company is being deployed back to the ships."

"It was a pleasure to serve with you," Yvgenni replied. "If only we could have met on better circumstances," he chuckled. "You guys keep safe, ya?"
