Sorry,sorry, guys. Internet connection unexpectedly fritzed. I can post three days at end of week only. I'd like to stay in, but if that makes workarounds difficult, I guess Ruari got expelled, or declared too young, or whatever Balrogga wants to RP.

I'll be back on Wednesday to see wassup. I'm expecting normal connections from June 26.
Balrogga

You can only post a couple days a week? That is fine, I've been waiting ICly for everyone to get done before continuing the tour to the lunch room the next floor above.

Don't get me wrong, we are all here for character interaction so I am having galvenor not say anything because I don't want to put a damper on anyone. The more you interact the more fun things will be. When you are ready ICly, just step out to the center where Galvenor is waiting quietly.

I would say I am kinda dissapointed nobody took the opportunity to comment on Marcus' question as to why there is a funny chair in the washroom full of water... You know these back-woods types. HEHEHEHE

For all you masters of spelling and spell checks out there, I have a question for you.

What word is always, without exception, ALWAYS spelled incorrectly?

Oh WH, you pose too easy questions. INCORRECTLY is always spelled incorrectly.
Marionetonia
01-06-2008, 22:58
Well, besides "incorrectly," there are always a few other juicy ones like "illegal," "improper," and the good ol' standby, "wrong," which, contrary to some opinions, is NOT the past tense of "wring." ;)

(What good is the @$#*$@# curmudgeon training if I never get to use it?)

:) :) :)

(BTW, I'll let you know the MOMENT I start being serious.)

I'm not done yet!

With potent, flowery words speak I,
Of something common, vulgar, dry;
I weave webs of pedantic prose,
In effort to befuddle those,
Who think I wile time away,
In lofty things, above all day
The common kind that linger where
Monadic beings live and fare;
Practical I may not be,
But life, it seems, is full of me!

Of what do I speak?

Teddy (Stevens) Bear

It speaks but has no voice
Nothing can walk through it

Ending that claim, it actually runs
Rivers also bathe seas like it does
Nonetheless it bathes all it goes (because it covers the entire world)
Enduring more than all rivers (the Internets has to endure a lot)

Then I'm afraid that the riddle is incorrect. There is only ONE internet and so making it plural throws things off quite a bit.

You're just noticing that there's another blind guy? Also, I said if someone dropped it in his mouth. Just a LITTLE bit? Score one for understatements.

I like to subvert tropes.

Yelena thinks that a dwarf is "a short overweight human, probably someone with severe dwarfism and with a stomach larger than his beard", that a dark elf is "a freaky African woman which got her ear tips stuck in an hydraulic press when she was young and got them stretched, but not enough to tear then apart, or who perhaps did some weird self-mutilation on her own ear", all to add LULZ to RPs and as I'm mostly MT in NS, I bring some MT influences as well.

I'm not strange, for I don't wear Spock ears in fan conventions, nor papercut armors and plastic swords, nor tennis ball as lightning bolts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_ekugPKqFw)

I'm here for the LULZ, but quality In-character LULZ instead of generic spam.

I'm also here for the serious business (http://computershopper.com/shoptalk/serious.jpg) of roleplaying.

That's not subverting figures of speech, SS, that's going off into your own world. Subversion requires acceptance from others, and your little jokes, though certainly humorous in a dark, cynical sort of way, don't even seem as though they're intended for use in the common vernacular.

Teaching Positions will be interviewed after the tour and both Eldrad and I will conduct them while the students are wandering around familliarizing themselves further with the place. First we must get everyone to know the layout so no one gets lost, especially wiht a couple blind attendees.

That is a very good talent. To be able to speak French ... I am jealous.

As for the roleplay, I have a question ... is Marvel suppossed to be Hellboy with wings and magic?

I've answered this question before.

No. They're both variations on a common theme, the old pagan Horned God (actually, there were several variants on THAT, too). The guys who made Hellboy took it one way and I took it another. They made a lot of money off of theirs, and I...well, let's not get into that. ;)

Hellboy has big horns and a rock hand. Marvel has hardly any horns and wings, and a stinger on the end of his tail that shoots a hypnotic narcotic venom. Hellboy's just this side of indestructible. Marvel isn't.

Marvel's species reproduces by laying and fertilizing eggs in host bodies. Marvel was magically altered so he doesn't do that anymore. But he was hatched in a man's body and ate his way out--and he had a girlfriend once before he learned just how cruel a mistress evolution can be. Having sex with him killed her...slowly, destroying her mind in the process (and it was like a form of torture for him to be caught up in it all). Hellboy never reproduced that way, and wasn't born that way, and doesn't have that problem with women, and doesn't have Marvel's guilt over the whole thing.

I never said I didn't KNOW another language. I said I couldn't SPEAK another language. I am majoring in Educational Interpreting (American Sign Language). I've been signing since I was 10.

However, I can say choice phrases in other languages. Mostly bad/naughty.

Sorry about the mix-up with Marvel. I was watching previews for Hellboy 2 when I thought of it.

I have been working on character. I have more weaknesses than strengths at the moment. I'm trying to make it more balanced.

Oh now that's a clever way to put it. I can't sign worth a darn more than the letters A, B, and C, and that's only thanks to my science teacher from 6th grade.

Dare I ask what you have thus far? We may be able to help.

I'm on my phone. The character bio is on the computer (someone else here has the same phone I do, the sidekick lx. I love it, but it sucks for long writing). I can give you the rundown, though.

To understand Emberlea Jax, I'm going to spoil her entrance. She is an energy mage from the Earth renaissance time period, who has the ability to use her energy to travel through time and space. She is a princess of a small nation in northern europe, but to keep her powers secret, her parents sent her to be raised with a healer, traveling with a gypsy clan. At the age of 17, she was discovered, and she began running.

She was captured once, and just narrowly escaped. On the verge of being taken again, images of the school fill her head, and she and her familliar (Chula the red tailed hawk) begin making the jumps. She is pursued, and a spell hits her as she runs through the gates. The school's barrier blocks the worst of it, but she is knocked out for a time, and wakes with none of her memories.

Some of her weaknesses are: she is too timid, and has no self-confidence. She is not physically strong. She was taught to supress much of her magic, instead of use and control it. Obviously, the memory loss. The spell that altered her memories also gave her empathic tendencies, so she is dealing with feeling every emotion around her.

Some of her strengths are: she is an avid potion maker, and shows promise for Alchemy. She can shield herself from almost any attack when in a healed physical state. She is also very intuitive, and mixed with her reason, she thinks through and is an excellent leader when forced to be.

Also remember as your character learns more at the Tower, he will gain advantages and powers. Figure out what you want your character to become and then regress him to the point he would be just learning them. That would make a great student.

Someone is really going to empathize with her sooner or later, provided she mentions this fact to her...

Hmmm ... she will retain her knowledge of potions and herbs. Maybe in exchange for not kicking her out, Jax can be added to staff as an herbal healer/Apothecary. She will not be good in teaching, though, till she learns more.

She will come when its dark. You know, for effect. :P

There's nothing to apologize about. You asked and I did my best to answer. Even made a rather dry joke in the process. No 'blems this end.

Irony of ironies, I'm a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology, which also happens to share its campus with the National Technical Institute for the Deaf...and took one entire quarter of sign language on a for-credit basis...which means I know JUST ENOUGH ASL to make a few rather neuronically deprived individuals think that I'm stone deaf.

:) :) :)

...and then there was the woman in the checkout counter who started signing what she was talking and got asked (in kind), "Why you signing?" Her cute little eyes almost popped out of her head for a second there. She was happy at the end of the ordeal, though. I got to get taught the sign for "because" (which I promptly--yep, Mr. Genius strikes again--forgot).

I can't use it conversationally; but it's fun sometimes.

Wow. What a story. Lol.

I have a good sign story! When I was a Freshman in HS, I passed out on the football field. It was discovered that I had a stomache infection or apendix issues. So I got an ambulence ride, and my mom met us at the ER.

Now, when I started sign classes in the college level, my mom began to take them with me because I was too young to be on campus alone. So her signing is limited, but I can understand her.

So at the ER, they pull me into a room, and the RN comes to take blood. I am petrified of needles. I was upset, and to calm me down my mom signed, "he thinks he's gorgeous, he wants to date you ..." (a spinoff of a line on Miss Congeniality). He turned around as she began, and he interrupted her. In SIGN. He was completely Deaf. :D

I wish I had a story that good to tell about signing. All I've got is one time in EB Games while I was trying the Wii. A kid around 8 or so came up to me and started signing to me. Well of course I had no idea what he was saying until his older brother came over and saw the look on my face. He asked if I understood him (to which I replied the obvious no) and he went on a signing spree in which I stared open mouthed. After all that, the older brother looked to me and said. "He was having fun watching you and just wanted you to go faster." (it was a racing game that I can't remember the name of)

Thing is that I wish that EVERYBODY knew sign language. There are times when it is preferable to spoken languages. For example, one could use it to communicate with someone across a store window, or over long distances...and...

At this time last year, I was in a hospital in a coma. On June 8th of last year, the pneumonia that I had unwittingly been nursing for a good month finally got to me and I had a heart attack. Tomorrow, June 23, marks the first anniversary of my re-awakening.

When I woke up, I had a trake tube blocking off my vocal cords. Couldn't say a word. It was then that I realized just how useful sign language could be--if only somebody else knew it, too. NONE of the hospital staff could so much as finger spell!

In my family, we're raised to always have a backup plan--some skill or angle that can be used in times of trouble. We're calm under fire. We're knowledgeable when things go wrong. When I was in college and had the opportunity, sign language was a skill that I thought would come in handy--especially considering that the men in my family lose their hearing as they grow older (I'm only 44 and the process has already started, though I'm currently the only one who would really notice).

Still, my crafty scheme was thwarted by the fact that others simply did not recognize the utilitarian nature of the skill. ::scum-buckitt::

Hospitals are required by the ADA to provide interpreting for ASL, but if your chart doesn't say Deaf, they aren't going to bring in a team of freelancers who charge $65/hour or more each. I agree someone on staff should have the basics. But then again, you hit the politics of misinterpretation and grounds for suing. Someone "just on staff" who knows the basics won't have the proper insurance to cover suits like that.

Ah, corporate America! :P

So you guys should keep going. I am waiting for darkness!

Yes, sign language would be helpful, but at the same time, it's something that takes practice and some people just don't have the coordination to do it or the desire to learn it. Of course, some people don't have a desire to learn proper English either. And Dans le Noir, you are IN the DARK already! What are you waiting for!?

I'm glad that the meaning of "Jax" is significant to more than just myself. I sent you a message back, explaining the other half. :)

Because of the nature of how Emberlea Jax will enter the school, she will be in need of attention. To get help. So if it's dark, I can let the spell cast by her attacker and the mix of protectant spells from the school and her ring combine to make a physical reaction, that can draw some attention.

Character Type: Student

Name: “Jax” (Full Name: Emberlea Jax) (http://lh6.ggpht.com/_cOZ_UHFrGFQ/RzOqqG6OP_I/AAAAAAAAACk/kSwlyhjVAdY/1178992041_rdWomanWOW.jpg)
Title(s): **Princess of Enden “Dragon” Clan
Age: Approximately 17
Race: Half Human, Half Elf (Her lineage is not known. She assumes she is a mere human. The Elvish side of her is the source of her abilities, as well as her unusually soft features)
Gender: Female
Appearance: Jax is 5’4”, slender, and obviously not athletic. She weighs 120 pounds. Her hair is long, falling just past her waist, and is usually a mess of dark brunette (looking almost black) waves. She has dark green eyes with a golden edge between the color and the iris. She has a dragon tattoo (http://images.elfwood.com/art/d/r/dragan/dragon_tattoo_3.jpg) located on the small of her back with “Jax” inked just below. Her facial features are slightly angular and slender, but not in an obvious way. Her ears have a slight sharpness about their shape, and remain unpierced and usually hidden in her hair. Her skin is fair, contrasting with her dark hair and eyes. She has a translucent beauty about her.
Clothing Style: Jax arrived wearing a long chemise with a simple and very outdated red peasant overdress (Irish style), with plain tan boots. Since it was in shambles and she was issued some plain wizarding robes, she has taken a liking to well-fitting, simple robes that cover the body and preserve modesty; however she will dress differently, according to the moods of those around her, without knowing it. She also prefers to be barefoot.

Possessions:
-Power Crystal: A small, square crystal with geometric cuts made to reflect light, no matter the angle or amount. It is on her neck tied with a simple hemp string, sitting long enough to be hidden by her robes.
-Celtic Trinity Ring: A small Celtic Trinity Ring holds protection spells and sits on her right ring finger. Jax does not remember her former protector giving her the ring before she fled for her life. It causes her attacker to be unable to enter the Tower.
-Familiar: Jax’ Familiar is Chula, the red tailed hawk (http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=46476591&albumID=42915&imageID=6385502). Chula was a gift from her “Brother” as an egg, and she hatched and raised the bird herself. When they were both older, she read about a spell that would bond the bird to her. She performed the Familiar incantation, and was very soundly punished when it was discovered that she had used magic.

Secrets:
-Memory: When the half-spell hit Jax, she lost all of her memories. She only knows her name because of her tattoo. She experiments with herbal based potions to restore the damage, but has not been successful. Her knowledge of protective spells, healing herbs, and limited magic do not seem to have been compromised.
-The Spell: The spell cast by Marcoz the Hunter was not aimed to kill, merely disengage. However, his heightened anger caused him to lose control as he cast, and the repercussions have allowed Jax empathic tendencies, reading people more by emotions than by physical expressions. It also is the reason Marcoz is not permitted to enter the school.

Abilities:
-Potions: Jax was raised in a Gypsy caravan, and was taken under the wing of the Wise Woman. She taught Jax all there is to know about plants and herbs to make cures to sicknesses and maladies. As Jax grew, she was taught to use the “eight ingredient” rule to make potions of immense magical capabilities in secret from her “Brother.” She became very practiced in the art.
-Plane (physical/locational) Travel: While not always an exact art, Jax can use her conscience to transport herself to a new plane based on sight. She uses this to keep moving, staying far from the sight of her predator. However, this is limited to what she can SEE. If she cannot see where she is going, she tends to end up in random places.
-Empathic Tuning: As an adverse side effect to the spell, Jax has become in tune with the emotions of all around her. While the range is only those around her directly, as she develops close bonds, the range on reading that specific person’s emotions increases. But this is an untested art, so her boundaries are not yet known.

***This is in addition to earlier stated strengths and weaknesses. Jax is not aware of her royal lineage as of yet.

One of the control operators has had her baby meaning she will be out for at least a month.

The situation is I am one of the few people that have been trained to cover her position. The end result is this week I will be putting in about 48 hours of OT (beyond my own 40 hours) and it looks like it will be like this for a couple weeks.

I will do what I can but I will not have time for lengthy posts that take hours to get just right.

The current situation in the RP, a summery of what is needed for Galvenor would be apreciated.

I have a pretty good idea what happened, the mysterious person approached me on MSN and asked me about the kidnapping of a student. I told them if it happened so it was not magical or outside the school it should not trigger anything nasty. They also would have to get in tough with the target and arrance things with them. I can tell you nothing else for that was all we spoke about. I will not tell you who it was so don't ask, I don't want to tell you the end of the movie while you are watching it.

I can say... naw even that might be too much.

but I will say my posts have contained clues, especially if you think about my characters and their natures.

I will say that you all are doing an excellent job of thinking inside the box.

That is not meant as an insult- you are thinking like young mages. and being incredibly creative.

It was true. Drai'lee hadn't noticed Marvel eating. Sometimes she just got so lost in her thoughts she wouldn't notice a demon if it came and kissed her on the nose...but she really did try not to let her thoughts wander that far afield.

She blushed and apologised "I guess I was day dreaming"

She took the offered glass, sniffed it, as she'd seen her mother do, then sipped it carefull. drawing her breath in in a gasp of pleased surprize. "Oh Marvel that is delicious!" She finished it quickly. Then abruptly she stood, looking towards her room. "You all just stay right here. I heard Rosh calling me." She kissed Marvel on the cheek "Thank you that was a wonderful finish!" and hurried out.

She was certain she heard Rosh call...but while she didn't realise it herself, she was absolutely plastered - her body was treating the wime as if she were still Fae sized...but no one could tell this outwardly...Fae normally acted a bit tipsy.

Khat sipped his slowly, humming under his breath. "She's right, this is simply Maaavelllous!" He twitched his whiskers at Marvel "She'll be back soon enough, she just worries about Rosh, him being a baby and all. He was nearly dead when he showed up and it took her forever to nurse him back to health." The feliniid explained further...

Drai'lee noticed none of this. Gliding happily along just certain she could get back to her rooms she noticed a wide banded ring on the floor. "Oh some ones dropped their pretty" she mumbled to herself, and with a drunks careful grace picked it up. It didn't seem to have any markings on the outside, but she could see fine writing on the inside as she looked it over.

"Oh so thats who's it is! It looks far to big for them, but I could be wrong" she giggled tipsily and began to follow the directions to return it. Though she did notice how dark it suddenly was, but that made no matter to her, the Fae saw perfectly well in the dark.

Once she reached her destination she smiled brightly, it was just where any Fae would think it a wonderful place to put things. It was so in tune with their natures, as well as the one who'd lost the ring...

But as she began to place it in...

she suddenly found herself somewhere else, a dimly lit, cold cube...

The ring fell, blank both inside and out now...

"let's go find your other half. Something strange is going on here."

Khat looked about, his ears going flat against his head as he too - though his way of senseing was different form Marvels - could no longer sense Drai'lee's presence. He bounded to his feet and with a quick paw motion to Marvel bounded out of the room, trolling for Drai'lee's scent.

Though just outside their room he came to a halt and looked around bewhilderedly.

"Her scent stops here" He said frowning.. then, flemhing, he took in a long pull of the air "New scent here though, familiar but not..." He darted into the room, only to come back with drooping whikers and eawrs, shaking his head negatively.

Drai'lee frowned as she suddently realized that she was back to Fae sized, her human cloths hiding her all but foot tall figure. Exasperated she struggled out of their entrapment. The blank walled cube seemed to have just enough room for them and her. The corners seemed to be seamless, and from all she could see at the moment there was no door.

"Hey, let me out! Let me out now, or I'll Pix you good!" She shouted as loud as she could but there was no response. Standing she went over - just a small step really - to the nearest wall and pounded on it. Hoping that ...hoping a lot of incoherent things, but mostly that she could get out quick. It felt so very wrong in here..

Khat caught the satchel that Marvel tossed to him and when the demon told him to go find Galvenor he hustled to do just that. He headed at top speed bak to the dining room, the last place he had seen Galvenor

"Galvenor...Galvenooooooooorrrr" He screeched at the top of his lungs...

Dari'lee cried out as she saw Marvel break open one wall, and she fought to climb over her clothes to get there - there just wasn't enough room to fly. But she couldn't seem to reach the opening, with every move it go further aways it seemed. Then small cube filled quickly with a monsterous stench and Drai'lee cried out as the rent snapped shut. She choked for a moment, her eyes watering barely able to breathe then abruptly the smell was gone, transformed into a tiny hard cube.

She kicked at it petutalantly, then hopped about on one foot rubbing the now aching big toe. The cube seemed to be heavier than it's size would account for.

"Damn you Stinky Butt, how could you do that and not get me out of here!!!!! Get me out of here !!!!!" She screamed. pounding on the bare walls some more, far more frantically now. She was too busy to notice that the small hard cube had simply vanished.

The small cube of solidified flatulence appeared in mid air, just outside of the perfect hiding place and fell to land next to the ring.

In side the bare, dank cube Drai'lee was pacing in circles, trying not to get any more upset than she alreay was...and it wsa getting colder, or so it seemed...Eventually she was shivvering too hard to keep walking and she thought to bury herself in her human sized clothes, but her wings kept snagging on the lace, and the leather wasn't very warm or flexible, and the silk scanties just weren't...

Soon she was in tears.

Khat burst into the dining hall, still screaming for Galvenor at the top of his not inconsiderable lungs. He stopped short when he saw all eyes on him and then drew another breath.

"Dari'lee's been Fae Napped. We have to find her! Where's Galvenor?" the short Felinid bellowed, looking about frantically.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rash had tried he reallly had, but Dari'lee had not returned to her room since she'd snuggled him down to sleep. And he couldn't feel her anywhere - he tried telling the demon that but he wasn't sure it got through. She'd come back, she always had, to his mind there was no other possibility, and thus no reason to worry.
Now pettings? Pettings were always to be garnered whenever and however possible.
Drai'lee sobbed for some time, but the memory of Marvel almost finding her made her hiccup and sniffle, the tears ending on their own..."He'll find me, he has too!...Then she found herself getting dizzy, a wave passing over her..odd and cold a darkness descending...
she toppled over on her side, forced into the arms of Morpheus.
Drai'lle stirred and snuggled up to her much loved and equally tattered blankee...only to find that she couldn't. She awoke then, groggy and disoriented, finding herself completely unable to move, cold, stiff, and sore all over. Tight bands held her spread eagled on a cold metal table. Her wings were trapped under her and they hurt abominably.
Some one was talking to her. She couldn't understand the words at first but when she could they didn't make any sense. The voice sounded sickening overly sweetly female, but among the Fae, some men affected such voices.
"Sorry for kidnapping you...all for the good of the people...experimenting... must be..."
Oh that sounded way to much like something out of one of the forbidden mangas she had hidden in her treehouse, or worse the hentai rags she'd caught her mother's secretary sneaking peeks at.
There are lots of clues there, really there are.
And what box do you refer to? I don't even know where the nearest box is! :p
Tanara
LOL that in the quote box is everything from the start to the currrent where Drai'lee is concerned. thats only a couple of loose paragraphs. If you ignore anything by Khat, or by Rosh, leaving just this...
Gliding happily along just certain she could get back to her rooms she noticed a wide banded ring on the floor. "Oh some ones dropped their pretty" she mumbled to herself, and with a drunks careful grace picked it up. It didn't seem to have any markings on the outside, but she could see fine writing on the inside as she looked it over.
"Oh so thats who's it is! It looks far to big for them, but I could be wrong" she giggled tipsily and began to follow the directions to return it. Though she did notice how dark it suddenly was, but that made no matter to her, the Fae saw perfectly well in the dark.
Once she reached her destination she smiled brightly, it was just where any Fae would think it a wonderful place to put things. It was so in tune with their natures, as well as the one who'd lost the ring...
But as she began to place it in...
she suddenly found herself somewhere else, a dimly lit, cold cube...
The ring fell, blank both inside and out now...
Drai'lee frowned as she suddently realized that she was back to Fae sized, her human cloths hiding her all but foot tall figure. Exasperated she struggled out of their entrapment. The blank walled cube seemed to have just enough room for them and her. The corners seemed to be seamless, and from all she could see at the moment there was no door.
"Hey, let me out! Let me out now, or I'll Pix you good!" She shouted as loud as she could but there was no response. Standing she went over - just a small step really - to the nearest wall and pounded on it. Hoping that ...hoping a lot of incoherent things, but mostly that she could get out quick. It felt so very wrong in here..
I have some guesses, but it's pointless as ICly my character knows only what others told her about the incident.
So I'll just go the lazy way with this. Because my mind just got lazy on thinking about it.
I wonder if it is someone who was inside the tower who did it in secrecy. Actually that would make sense. Who would suspect of an insider?
Sylvonia
08-07-2008, 07:44
Well, we can narrow it down a bit, it's not Drai'lle obviously, or Khat. Nor is it my trio, Yelena, or Marvel. It's not Jax, I'm talking to Dans le Noir right now and and she's as confused as I. Though from what we've been told, it's nobody we've even met yet, so I don't think insider is the word I'd use to describe them.
Yelena does not trust the undead. But maybe this is just a wild guess.
There is no clue that points to something that came out of the tower(after all, a ring would not spawn inside it without calling any attention at all), specially as I have no idea about the nooks and cranks of this Fae stuff.
Plus that undead character seems to be of the type who likes rings.
Soviet Steam's post was about Yellena, not the kidnapper. He's expanding on something he did with me in another thread.
They're not being fair here. You have to have participated in other threads--not all of which I did--to get the clues. The clues relate to other threads in which our mystery date has participated.
The cube points to one thread, the ring to another. I'm not sure of the size change, though.
I'm writing all of this because I didn't find it from asking the mystery date. I reasoned it out myself. Because of this, I might be wrong.
If you need someone with Galvenor's/Eldrad's Degree of magic and could represent the school in efforts to kidnap a rescued student, from someone with more time than what Bal and snake has availible, I can help.
Teachers from The White Tower from long ago, teachers who are, quite technically, still apart of the staff, even though they had to temporarily leave to deal with a massive crises. Infact, you've already met them. No, their not Hoyrel and Lerim, but I'm sure Bal already knows who they are. I bet he didn't know, their already inside the tower, and have been there for some time.
So, yeah. If you need to change roles around to accomodate RL difficulties, I'm here to help.
~We know that we find the location when the box of "flatulence" is located. It's outside the "box" where she's being held
~We know it's someone smallish in stature
So, with this much decided, we need to add any other final clues we KNOW, not guess, and decide who it is.
Could it be someone from the beginning of the thread, where everyone was active and many tapered off into inactivity? Maybe it's someone who was active there.
Ruari Dhurigh and Khat and Drai'lee and Marvel were all in the dining hall chatting together so you can cross him off...and Hoyrel, the blind Bard was in there as well iirc...There is the purple robbed wizzard who's name I haven't quite caught yet - he was talking to Marvel inthe dining hall
and Kyle and Marcus are Balroggias, so I doubt its them.
and you know Yelena has never trusted Ivan Berezovsky - and we haven't seen him for a bit.
and what about June RoverMouse, the artificer mouse, or the grumpy knight, Gustav von Stueben, Graff von Stueben, who has seemingly vanished.
and where are Lerim, the wand weilder Mathus Magnus, the elf king Tulael and blind instructor known as Arkane, or the charms instructor Miyu Otsuki - though I don't think that instructors would have a part in this.
I don't think that Crisi Ikarus ever got brought in? ..no wait one she is mentioned as arriving...
But what about these three: Halna LeGavilk< his intro was half written and never finished, per the note on the post > Jenna Marioc, Karia Larestin - I think they never got brought in, or haven't by post 285, so I think we can count them off...
Didn't Yuki Harada & Miki Harada have tribbles? I don't think they ever left the courtyard LOL
Ivan is hiding somewhere.
Supposedly sleeping, but after midnight, the dead want to speak, and he is the only one who can listen to them.
I have plans to bring him back, but he would definitively not bother about a Fae. Actually his return will be quite interesting. The knight Gustav? Why would he be there for the sake of capturing a Fae?
I suspected of the purple robed wizard, but thinking again, this is more complicated and I'm too lazy for mind games.
June and Arkane are teachers, that's why I left them off. I should have ignored Miyu in this list too cause this is students...
Yuki Harada
Miki Harada
Crisi Ikarus
Halna LeGavilk
and Kyle and Marcus are Balroggias, so I doubt its them.
Another technicality, they are just generic humans not associated with my nation in any way. Balrogga has no humans in it anymore for over 500 years ICly. I do occasionally pull a character or three from a generic stockpile I saved in an old sneaker for RPing purposes. The stinky sneaker keeps them fresh without having to thaw them and dealing with freezerburn afterwards.
Soviet Steam
10-07-2008, 22:10
The fact Soviet Steam is human-only is also a technicality. Actually there are fae folks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavic_fairies), but they should not be called "a different species", because they are not made of flesh and bones, but instead are spiritual beings.
Or in basic words: there are humans, and there are ghosts and spirits.
And they are really mythical, because 99.99% of Soviet Steam population never seen any of these beings and think they are fairy tales, and of the 0.01% remaining, most are not alive or sufficiently sane to be convincing.
Also, while they appear Human, niether actually is human, but all the schools tests and all the schools powers can't yet crack the secrets they hold.
Also, I promise I am completly uninvolved with this, despite having an unusually large variety of fantasy creatures in Warhaven.
Same rules as before apply. Does anyone have anything else they want to add to eliminate more suspects?
As far as Sylvonia goes, it's a general mix of a lot of things. Demons, humans, fairy tale folk, and angels. What's not human usually has magic, but it's rare to find a pure blooded human that can use magic unaided. Zena's an exception to that, even Mali needs an instrument most, if not all of the time.
Call it Room 101. Soviet Steam is not Oceania, but it almost got there once.
Also good thing I refused to send Yelena there, it would be too traumatic and deadly as well(or in brief words: 50% death chance). To be trapped to a giant spiderweb and be dismembered by huge spiders while their poisons provoke further unbearable pain. And even if no real physical harm came, she would take a week to forget it.
Wait until Marvel tries to teach her some "basic practical magic." Eldrad may understand all that high-level, highfalutin' stuff, but Marvel thinks he understands street magic better than anybody else (laugh track, paleeeeuzz!). So he's going to try to show her some "basic" stuff (if she's foolish enough to let him), and, boy, does he not know what he's getting into when he tries to "motivate" her or what?
("Teleport the little ball away from you, Yellena. What's that? You can't? Well, then maybe it'll help you if you just think of it as my newest pet..." ::POOF!:: Little ball turns into (illusion of) nasty-looking spider...)
A few seconds later, when they've teleported Marvel's cruel little heart BACK into his body (along with a few other parts that I won't mention) after Yellena has shown just how good she REALLY is at teleporting small, round objects, I'm sure he'll believe that he's made a fitting sacrifice to the art of education... ;)
Well, I mose well start posting, I thought you would have acted in a different manner, sometimes there's things which just staying still and casting magic can't fix.
And, yes, If you haven't seen the IC Post June RoverMouse is the Fae-napper. Reasons and details as to why and whats going to happen will just have to unfold.
Well, I mose well start posting, I thought you would have acted in a different manner, sometimes there's things which just staying still and casting magic can't fix.
There was very little to none of ICly available clues to begin with. I've played lots of Adventure games, so I know what I'm talking about, it needed to have at least one item that can be combined in a completely random manner with another one to make something that shows something like a map written with lemon juice(blank piece of rag somewhere + candle), or something like that.
The descriptions given about what Drai'lle saw and felt were OOC, so I did not focus on them for it would make no sense in-character. Also, my character was just on a "I will pretend I care so they don't scorn me", so she would not really dedicate much about it.
To be honest, I was surprised you stayed basically in the one spot.
You could of tracked where Drai'lee went, I admit there was a bit of a mix-up with the cube.
Drai'lee was obviously not on campus and the divinitions that were cast ended up in a dead end. So if you couldn't find her directly, then surely there are ways to find her indirectly. Which really was what I was looking for you to do.
Magic abilities are nice and all that but it's more than, problem, cast a spell, resolution. With the cube you could have tried to work out where it went. Finding more IC clues and such as you went along.
I think what really hampered this was the lack of Balrogga, just the timing threw everything to pieces. And which was why Tanara said "You're all thinking like Mages" to try and suggest looking at other avenues. such as perhaps as going out and looking for her, with the information that you ICly had. Sort of like one of those treasure hunts, where one clue lead on to the next onto the next and so forth until you arrive at the Fae-nappers cave.
the ring was to be returned to some place that a fae thought was a good hiding place for both her and the one who lost it.
The ring fell to the ground -with no note of it making noise as if it landed on stone or wood - carpet? leaves? grass?
Clues:
"Oh so thats who's it is! It looks far to big for them, but I could be wrong
was just where any Fae would think it a wonderful place to put things. It was so in tune with their natures, as well as the one who'd lost the ring...
The small cube of solidified flatulence appeared in mid air, just outside of the perfect hiding place and fell to land next to the ring.
sickening overly sweetly female, but among the Fae, some men affected such voices.
And later I posted that Drai'lee knew that she had been moved, to the top of a mountain.
and if you will reread the mouse's entrance, it's posted that she came down from her hole in the mountain.
And yes I was trying to encourage people to physically investigate, not just majically
Add to that the fact the knowledge of what lies beyond the Tower is extremely sketchy. And I couldn't remind such detail of a nth post while I was busy remembering for the finals.
Also, no resurrections please.
I'm not going to lie, I didn't like the way this turned out. At all.
Those acting in this assumed that we could pick up on clues that only made sense if we knew who the napper was, and the napper wasn't even active this entire time.
Also, the people who could have steered us in the right direction weren't active in their roles, so how were we suppossed to understand it all?
I kinda agree with her. June just vanished and we had no indication of where she went. At the same time, if you look at the clues, they could have been another Fae or even a creature we hadn't met yet. I'm glad it's over though, the clues were so small and so well hidden that it was impossible to find them.
And SS, my bad, our interpretations were clearly different on what happened to Yelena's remains when Marvel moved them. Name the phrase "It grabbed her body and shuffled it off...somewhere." made me think it was moved from the tower.
Dans, my apologies for the clues not being given out better.
I too feel that it was allowed to go on too long without direct input from the one that engineered this.
And to be bluntly honest I did not like Warhaven's new character suddenly popping in.
The fireballs won't work... that's right.. .but the compression wave. The source of the waves would be magical but the actual compression would not be.
I'd also like to point out that the shell is almost like a complete magical barrier. Magic shouldn't be able to pass in or out, but once inside it's un-hindered.
Sorta like a nuclear bunker, nothing gets in or out but life to the extent it can in such a confined space is normal.
So now that Marvel is there he's basically unhinded in attacking June.
Nourishment, of course...and who's this Lord guy, anyway? ;)
He doesn't use souls for nourishment. Nor does any being in the Ashen Empire. However, if one is turned into an "inhabitant" of the Netherworld or even the Underworld itself, s/he can be brought forth as a... Productive member of the Ashen Empire later on. And the Lord is none other than the Lord of the Underworld, who is the main reason why the Ashen Empire exists in the first place (although that doesn't mean that the Lord of the Underworld would care at all about what happens to the Ashen Empire).
Note that this Underworld is strictly separate from the Inferno (and shouldn't be confused with the Underworld you've been talking about). The Inferno, which is the realm of devils of all kinds, is also far less a place of afterlife than the Underworld is. Magically speaking, summoning demons from Inferno uses the path of Blood and requires human sacrifice (which is a reason behind the ancient hatred the Ashen Empire fosters against the demons), while bringing forth undead beings from the Underworld (or reanimation of corpses) uses the path of Death which uses magical gems procured from sites of death (such as old battlefields, age old places where animals go to die, even ancient graveyards).
Only Science! can bring the dead back, and only if their bodies are still not rotting. Or at least doctor Vyankostanov says so. They "bury" their dead ones in the permafrost because of his claims, and because it allows places that would serve as graveyards to serve as farms because of the scarcity of arable lands.
All it needs is a huge lightning and a sinister castle of a mad scientist, plus Victorian Era styled pseudo-science made real.
EmeriKa
15-07-2008, 02:55
Well, in Ermorian lore you can't bring the dead "back" without considerable changes to their person. This means that they'll be undead, with or without corporeal bodies. There's only one way to get even close to returning them to their original form, too, and still they'll be quite different.
Basically, you can only have a truly ancient spectral master of many paths of magic create himself a living shell.
Read that book. It was boring. Too much name-dropping.
My next character will be called Linyos Torovoltos
http://www.adequacy.org/stories/2001.12.2.42056.2147.html
BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as "telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet without using a telephone.
And before someone goes WTF?
Now I could have several analytical engines connected to each other by a series of tubes.
That "Is Your Son a Hacker" thing was pretty lame, dude. Anybody can rewrite history. It takes a truly warped and twisted mind to make it funny, though--and the guy who wrote that article only managed to make it to "loonie."
Have you ever corresponded with Linus Torvalds, or are you just going to "wing it" with your new character?
BTW, I have a pair of mobile racks installed on my desktop machine at home. One of the advantages of having built the thing myself. When I feel like running Windows, I pop in a hard drive with Windows on it (I'm using XP now). When I feel like linux, I have my choice between Debian, Ubuntu and Linspire. Usually, I use Ubuntu. I like their update manager.
When Miceland is ready to bring in their next character (probably after his current one is done) Galvenor will be returning with them. His leaving to fetch them is the only logical explination I can come up with to explain his non-involvement.
When he returns he will lock down the school. There will be no transporting into or out of the sachool other than by Instructors. People will have to arrive outside the front gate of the courtyard because it protects everything within the walls of the grounds.
Anyone trying to teleport after Galvenor returns will be automatically rerouted to appear outside the courtyard walls standing in front of the main gate. Anyone trying to leave will find their spell/ability failed to function.
If they can get someone's attention by using the pull bell someone will be out to answer the bell and to see who is there. If they have business and should be there, they will be let in just like any other secure place. If they are just sightseers they will be directed to the Arena down the hill or some of the other places of interest.
Not just anyone will be let in, just like in your RL home. Only people who have a reason to be there will. Galvenor will not want another incident to happen and will take steps to keep you safe.
Edit: Please note, instructors are allowed to teleport themselves but only themselves. Eldrad and Galvenor are the only ones that can take the barrier down but they can "open" a lecture hall for a class in these modes of transportation. Summoning creatures or things would also be blocked.
We would not want this to happen:
The Instructor stops as a tour guide walks through the lecture hall, "...and in here we can see an actual class being held. It is..."
