OOC. I am now restricting the number of those who can (depending on the character you want to play). You can RP a character or an MT government (but even if you are not MT, you can still RP a character...). Dates are for timeline purposes. No nukes, this is not intended to escalate into a war. But it may perhaps be some sort of a case-to-be-solved thing...

Lachlan Driscoll watched as people started to enter the subway train. It was the start of the evening rush hour, and people are getting off from work from their jobs at Kylesburgh’s business district. There were men and women in business attires, fathers bringing home something for their children, mothers eager to get home, but one person particularly struck a chord in Lachlan. A heavily pregnant young woman came on the train, looking for a suitable place to stand, as all seats were taken.

Lachlan stood up and said to the lady, “Hello. You can have my seat.”

The woman was especially delighted. She had been walking all afternoon, and there was this guy in fatigues who offered her his seat! How chivalrous! “Why, thank you, soldier,” she said, smiling as she sat, but not without difficulty, due to her big belly.

Lachlan smiled back. “I’m not a soldier yet, madam, I’m just a cadet. But all for Kylesbughers like you.” Service to the people is one of the things that are being inculcated in them in Military School. Actually, he was just off from vacation, and is going back to Camp Kyle Military Base. Since it was on the way, he was to drop off his childhood friend’s stuff at the University of Kylesburgh.

“Thank you, thank you… Mr. Driscoll,” she read his name patch.
“Lachlan Driscoll,” he said.
“Nice name. I’m Hannah McDowell.”
“It’s nice to meet you… If you don’t mind me asking, when is your baby due?”
“Four weeks from now. I’m still finding a good name for my baby boy,” she said, rubbing her belly as she felt a kick. “I like your name. Lachlan. That’s a nice name for my baby.”
Lachlan felt flattered. “Thank you.”

His attention shifted to his friend’s backpack with her stuff when heard a hiss coming from it. Nobody else seemed to notice, however, as the people in the train were too busy chatting. Irritated, Lachlan bent down and opened the bag, and was promptly rendered unconscious. Soon, everybody was down…

Taran Droegemueller stood on the platform of the station, eagerly waiting for the train to arrive. His spirits went up when the train that was arriving was empty! That meant he can sit… but that was odd, considering that it was the evening rush hour and the train was from Downtown…

As the train pulled up the station, there was a sense of panic from ones who saw first the train. One lady whipped out her mobile phone and frantically called the police, while several commuters summoned the subway security. Apprehension was rising among the people waiting on the platform…

“I have a very bad feeling about this…”
“Do you smell that? Almonds?”

As the train reached a full stop, Taran realized the gravity of the situation. From the window, he saw that the coach in front of him was strewn with bodies – not one soul inside the train. The teenager took a tentative step back, as chaos began to ensue inside the station.

The train’s doors opened, and the horror inside the train started to spread into the station. Some people began to collapse, some began to flee the acrid stink, some began to panic. Taran tried to run away like the crowd, but his throat was burning, and his chest felt like it was being constricted. He felt himself vomit, the world spun wildly around him, but he had to go on and run... his breaths turned into gasps, and his legs buckled from his weight. The last thing Taran Droegemueller felt was his head hitting the cold floor tiles.

“As of 7:12 PM, 52 people are confirmed dead, with 220 others being treated at Kylesburgh General Hospital. This has got to be the worst tragedy to ever strike Kylesburgh in its entire history...

Police have cordoned off the area, and the Kylesburgh Underground had stopped operating. The area here at Sherbourne Street Station is a picture of chaos…”

“Alicia, do the police have any idea on the cause or who is responsible?”

“Ah, no, Frank, they have not released any information yet, perhaps it’s too early to say. But they are suspecting a chemical attack, as there is no damage to the infrastructure and there are biohazard and decontamination teams here from the Kylesburgh Fire Department.”

“Any word on who’s responsible?”

“They haven’t got a hunch, from the sentiments I am hearing, this is very very unexpected. Kylesburgh is a peaceful place, there are no known organizations, foreign or domestic, that would have any reason to do this. Perhaps we would know later.”

“Perhaps,” the news anchor said, “we will be monitoring the situation closely. Clearly this is a sad day for Kylesburgh… we have Alicia Mallory right there, reporting on the scene. Meanwhile, Kylesburgher President Chester Knutsen is set to address the nation at eight o’clock tonight…”

Kylesburgh President Chester Knutsen faced the cameras, with a sullen expression on his face. He looked much older than his age of thirty-five, perhaps from all that had transpires within the last two hours...

He did not bother with an introduction. The evening was not good anyway.

"My dear Kylesburghers, today we had suffered an immense tragedy, unheard of in the history of our country. Many people had lost their lives, and many more are in jeopardy.

"Kylesburgh weeps with every family that had suffered a loss of a loved one. I personally extend my condolences to the people who are going through these tough times. I assure you that you will not be left alone.

"But let us not forget those who are fighting for their lives this very moment. Kylesburgh prays for you, and wishes you well.

"These individuals and their families had been the victims of this terrible crime. It is imperative for us to seek justice for them and punish those who are responsible.

"I assure the people of Kylesburgh that this would be done as soon as possible, and with every resource at our disposal. Right now, police are investigating the case thoroughly. I have confidence that we can catch the perpetrators soon.

"I have also instructed the Department of Public Safety to be more vigilant in order to prevent this from happening again, and also to make our citizens feel safe again.

"The units of the Kylesburgh Armed Forces are on standby to help the civilians.

"I assure the people of Kylesburgh that their government is working to ensure their safety and bring justice. However, the government cannot do this alone. Kylesburgh needs YOU. Kylesburgh needs the cooperation of every person, to make this country safe again and rebuild lives. We must do this for ourselves, our family, and our country.

"Thank you very much."

“Ooh, bright red,” medical technician Donovan Plummer remarked as he took out the first tube of blood samples taken from the patients of the recent disaster. There are so many of them, he knew he’s going to be in for a long night.

“Oh just shut up. We’ve got a lot of things to do,” said Jordana Thierry, his fellow technician. She then sniffed as Plummer uncorked the first tube. “What’s that smell?”

“What smell?”

She sniffed again. “Damn it, Donovan, I’m smelling cyanide! Cap it again and we need masks.”

Emergency Room
Kylesburgh General Hospital, Kylesburgh
07:01 PM, June 16, 2008

Intern Genevieve Dempsey ruefully palpated a teenage girl’s neck for the carotid pulse. “Come on, give me a pulse.” She had five? seven? ten? – she lost count – people die on her arms… she could not bear to have another one die.

“Dammit!” She covered the teenager’s mouth with hers and blew twice. She then immediately placed the heel of her palm on the girl’s chest and began compressing the sternum for the tenth cycle. She wasn’t supposed to go further than the fifth but…

“Come on, don’t give up on me…” Tears welled up, and her arms lost all strength. She slumped down beside the body, looking at the entire mess. The emergency room and the parking lot looked like a warzone. The emergency room was overflowing, and tents had been set up on the parking lot for more patients. On the far side of the lot, near the dimly illuminated wall, bodies with unsalvageable lives had been lined up in a row, without even drapes to cover their still pink faces.

“Doctor, you ain’t just sitting there cryin’!” A hospital orderly yelled at her, while grabbing the girl’s feet. The orderly slipped a tag on the teenager’s big toe, now starting to get cold. “There are still lots of people needing help out there, save your cryin’ for later!”

But it wasn’t the orderly’s yelling that caught her attention. “It’s cyanide poisoning,” Dr. Peter Yarborough announced with his loud booming voice that stilled everything. “Give all patients this.” He then held up a kit. “Have them inhale amyl nitrite, then insert the IV line for sodium nitrite and sodium thiosulfate. Get your kits here.” He then pointed to a table with bags and IV needles and catheters. “Monitor everyone closely, resuscitate if necessary. The antidote is here!”

Dempsey leapt to her feet. Finally…

The Hon. Scottie Ranulph
Prime Minister, The United Kingdom of Tristan Providence

Greetings!

We would like to thank you for your joining us in this moment of shock and grief. We would also deeply grateful for your offer. Word has reached us that it was a chemical attack using cyanide, though the investigation had just begun on the source, the event, and the people responsible for the attack. We do have a few people capable of investigating, but I believe our manpower would be tenuous at the very least. The Secretary of Public Safety had informed me that any help on the investigation would be accepted and very well appreciated.

Thank you.

“It’s cyanide, boss,” Rainier McSlarrow told his boss, Secretary of Public Safety Derrick Holtz.
“Casualties?”
“Up to 101. Police Chief Pelletier said they are still clearing the area, and Fire Chief Jägerstätter said that one of his boys died also.”
Holtz stood up and paced the room.
“Boss, did you send the military to the scene? Chief Pelletier said – ”
“No, I didn’t.” Holtz said as he felt his stomach grumble. He had not eaten dinner. “It was President Knutsen. He also asked me to form an investigation team - ” His words were cut off as his phone rang loudly.
He picked up his handset and put it beside his ear.
“This is Derrick Holtz speaking, who is this?”
“Derrick! This is Erin. I’ve got some great news for you.”
Holtz paused. His mind was co cluttered it took him some time to realize that he was talking to Foreign Affairs Secretary Erin Sarah MacKinnon. “What is it?”
“We’ve got some help coming. The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Tristan Providence is sending a five-man team to help in the investigation. They would be coming soon.”
“Thank God,” Holtz said, glancing towards the heavens. “I’ll be forming the investigating team now.”

“There are no more kits available,” Dempsey told her fellow intern Scott Kimbrell. “There are still people who haven’t got the cyanide eliminated form their blood. Tell Dr. Yarborough – ”
“Just give hydroxocobalamin,” Kimbrell said, tossing an IV bag to her. “I’ve used them with my patients over there.”
“Blood pressure going down!” Another intern yelled at the nurse. The nurse, all too shocked and tired, just looked at the intern.
“Jeez,” Kimbrell remarked, striding to the patient’s stretcher with an ampoule of epinephrine in his hand.

Kylesburgh Under Attack!
KYLESBURGH – 112 were dead and 160 were hospitalized after a chemical attack occurred in the Kylesburgh Underground. This attack was deemed as the worst ever in the history of this country. Most of the casualties occurred in Sherbourne Street Station and train C-15, at approximately 6:20 PM, during the evening rush hour. Aside from commuters, one firefighter was also killed by the chemical.

Victims were rushed to Kylesburgh General Hospital, where many more died. The laboratory tests of the victims showed cyanide as the culprit. An antidote was given to all of the patients. As of this writing, 39 are still in critical condition.

President Chester Knutsen mobilized the military to aid the police and firefighters in the rescue and cleanup operation. Body bags containing the victim’s bodies were lined up along the sidewalk and the street. Police cordoned off part of Sherbourne Street from Ruthenian Avenue to Laclede Street.

Transportation and Communication Secretary Justin R. Carrillo said that “Kylesburgh Underground would remain closed indefinitely,” presumably as the investigation is underway and stricter security measures implemented.

”Kylesburgh Needs You”
Roughly two hours after the tragedy, Kylesburgh President Chester Knutsen addressed the nation on television. The president expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, and vowed for the speedy investigation and catching those responsible for the tragedy. He said that though the government would do everything in its power to bring justice and prevent this event from happening again, the president also asked for the cooperation of every Kylesburgher.

The Horror
“I saw the train coming, and everybody inside was dead,” related Elaine Kirkhoff, 36. “Oh, the horror. I feared the worst and started towards the exit… others were not that lucky.”

“It was a stampede,” said Matt Quinteros, 18. “Everybody was rushing towards the stairs as the doors opened and a few people went down. There was this old lady that fell down the stairs and everybody either tumbled down with her or avoided her. Everybody was panicking.”

“It smelled like bitter almonds, with a stink that burns your throat,” Savannah Morrison, 26, told the Chronicle.

“It was absolute horror, and terror,” Travis Hill summed up the event… <article snipped>

Police Officer Clyde Hotchkiss zipped up the last body bag, finishing the most gruesome task of the night. The rookie cop was not squeamish at all, unlike his fellow rookie Stubbs, who puked at the first sight of a corpse.

Some folks started loading body bags onto the back of a pickup truck. There were still some relatives of the dead staying, many in shock, some crying. Fortunately, nobody he knew was among the dead he had seen, but he still had not checked at Kylesburgh General. There was still work to do…

“Hotchkiss!” Captain Teague called him out. He immediately strode towards his superior.

“Hotchkiss, you help out the investigation unit,” Capt. Teague said. “This is Inspector Heather Morehouse, she’s heading the investigation and forensic team. Chief Jägerstätter already gave us the go signal to enter the station, but with masks.”

“Yes sir.”

OOC: Let me know if this isn't okay. He'll be primarily a pursuit officer in the local police force. Oh, what cars do officers drive in your nation? Please say Volvo V70's...sorry, I just love that car.

And it had all started off so well...it had been a quiet day by all accounts. No chases, only a few tax dodgers, and the usual drunkards. Nearly time to go home. Just this punk to deal with. As the car was passing, the youth had flipped a finger to the officer inside. After a long boring day, that was the wrong move.

The youth had cheesed it when Gardyner's car had stopped suddenly, but he wasn't too hard to catch. Such was the problems with running into a cul-de-sac. Now he was over the bonnet of the car, handcuffs on his wrists.

"Foxtrot Five-Zero-Niner, control. Reported gas leak at Sherbourne Street Station, request immediate response. Casualties unknown."

"Control, Foxtrot Five-Zero-Niner. Am unable to respond, repeat, am unable to respond."

"Control, Indigo Five-Four. Can respond, ETA 10 minutes."

"Roger Indigo Five-Four. Rendezvous with the Fire Chief at scene."

Taking the handcuffs off of the youth, he gave him a "friendly" warning.

"A word of advice my boy. If you're going to give us jip, don't get caught. You're lucky this time, as I've got better things to deal with right now, but next time, you and me are gonna have words."

The youth spits at Gardyner's feet, before shouting "wanker" and running off. Gardyner aims a kick at the boy's backside, his toes connecting squarely in the middle. The boy yelps before running away. No doubt that's a disciplinary waiting to happen, Gardyner mused. Stepping into his vehicle, he switched on the blues and twos, before putting his foot down and heading for Sherbourne Street.

-----

He arrived to chaos. Making his way past the blockade, he spoke to the fire chief on duty.

"Officer Gardyner, police force. So where do you need me?"

Clyde Hotchkiss was with Inspector Morehouse, inspecting a backpack inside the train, when he heard his name. He snuck his head out of a door and called out, "Over here! We've found something."

"This," Inspector Morehouse butted in, opening a zipper of a heavy backpack. "There is something suspicious inside." She then pulled the sides of the backpack down to reveal a black metal box with a shower head attached on top like a nozzle.

"What the heck is that?" Hotchkiss remarked, and then bent down to pick up a piece of paper from the bottom of the backpack. "What is this?" He unfolded the piece of paper and read out the printed message.

"Is Kylesburgh scared now? We warned you. Leave or die."

Rainier McSlarrow went out of the armored SUV and made his way through the terminal. He looked at his watch. 1:31 AM. Good thing he was just on time. Damn MacKinnon. She had roused him in an ungodly hour to tell him that he was to meet some people at the airport...

McSlarrow reached the tarmac and saw a group of men who had just came out of a beige plane. There they are, he said to himself.

He paced towards the group. "Good morning, I'm Rainier McSlarrow, Kylesburgher Undersecretary of Public Safety. I believe that you are the team being sent from the United Kingdom of Tristan Providence?"

"Yes, yes we are. Now please we must move with haste to the scene. We have a limited amount of time to find these people." The Doctor said in a hurried tone, as he motioned to the SUV. The 5 member taskforce enter the vehicle and strapped into their seat belts. "Is everyone ready?" asked Dr. Merit. "Yes sir." They replied.

Inspector Morehouse gave Gardyner the evil eye for the unwarranted joke. "We'll take pictures of it first," she said, holding the camera slung around her neck.

After taking pictures of the paper and backpack to her satisfaction, she put the note in a transparent ziploc bag and labeled it with a felt-tipped pen. "Show it to Captain Teague upstairs. Tell him to give it back to me, this is evidence."

A warm Sunday morning, the last vestiges of a stormy night leaking away in the brilliant dawn. Sethanis, King of Black Shadows, Regent of the Xeraphian Empire, was enjoying his first cup of coffee when a knock came on his bedroom door.

"Come." His Chief Steward, Landis, to whom he was very distantly related, hurried in with a note in his hand. "M'lord, maybe something, maybe nothing. A terror attack."

Seth was all ears. "Where?" He glanced at the memo. "Kylesburg? Where the hell is Kylesburg?"

"Somewhere out in the West Pacific, m'lord. One of those new, independent, emerging nations that always seem to be popping up."

"Hmmmmm.....so tell me why I should care about a terror attack on a small speck out in the middle of nowhere. We've got the situation in Tarlag to contend with and I'm quite frankly not in the mood to go traipsing off to God-knows-where and deal with small-time shit."

"Well, m'lord, Prince John and Prince Vlad agreed.....initially. The reason this is being passed on to you is the similarity between Kylesburg and the Essenian Dynasty debacle of fifty-five years ago."

What he was referring to was the Great Xeraphian Rebellion led by rebel Generals Feratu, Ghengiz, and Azulun. One of the horrendous attacks on Xeraphian loyalists was the chem/bio situation which killed millions not only in the Empire, but in numerous allied nations. It had been silent and deadly.....well thought out and implemented.

That put Seth in a thoughtful mood. "And you say Vlad and John are aware of this? What are their recommendations?"

"The Squids, m'lord."

The Squids were a squad of stealth recon/assassins. Few people, even in the upper circle of government, knew anything about them. Most were unaware of their existence. Their name derived from the letters SKWD translated from the ancient Atlantean rune-language meaning 'they who deal silent death'.

"Really? They think it's that serious?" Not for the first time, he wondered what Alaric would have done. Alaric, the now-dead Emperor of Xeraph, wouldn't have hesitated. Go in, guns blazing, diplomacy-be-damned. "Very well, Landis. Have Amra and the team assemble. As soon as we get the leadership of Kylesburg to OK it, we'll air-drop the team into Kylesburg. Send them a message, may we etc, etc, so on and so forth. You know the drill. If and when we get the go-ahead, I want the Squids on an AirWolf HG and in Kylesburg in 24 hours. They will be at the disposal of the local government, to a point, and will need all pertinent info as to the situation. Got it?"

"Got it, m'lord."

The armored SUV navigated through the deserted streets of Kylesburgh. Nobody seemed to want to come out of their houses. Never mind that it was the wee hours of the morning. Main Avenue is not that deserted before today. Kylesburgh is truly afraid.

As they reached the stoplight at Poole Avenue, they could see signs of life - or lives trying to be saved. Kylesburgh General Hospital was buzzing with activity. As they turned right, they fully saw the grim horror of the event. Through the emergency entrance at Poole Avenue, they could see a line of bodies, hastily pitched tents housing stretchers with victims, and the emergency room teeming with people.

The SUV turned left at Laclede Street. As they reached the corner, a police officer stopped them at a checkpoint. McSlarrow rolled down his window. "Rainier McSlarrow, Undersecretary for Public Safety."

The police officer let them go.

The SUV parked at the southbound lane of Sherbourne Street. "Oh, my boss is here," McSlarrow remarked as he saw an unmarked car parked beside a clothing shop. "We are here."

The place looked like a warzone. There are still body bags lined up along the sidewalk and the northbound lane of Sherbourne Street, police are trying to keep people and mediamen at bay, firefighters are still around, and there are some men in fatigues.

"Well, so far Kylesburgh had not descended into chaos..."

"So what would we tell them, mister president?"

There was a long pause. "Personally, it'd be great to have them in here to bolster our police and military forces. If only knew, Erin, we only have 100 people in the police force and about 500 in the military. I'd say we should let them in."

OOC: The Y-files is the part of South Lizasauria's secret service specializing in the paranormal. South Lizasaurians culturally believe that the more people understand of the universe the stronger their souls are which motivated the government to attempt to explain the unexplained. In order to know more about the universe INTEL (South Lizasauria's secret service) offers to help in paranormal investigations outside the nation. Two exceptional agents Moldy and Bony are the best at paranormal investigation (either that or for some paranormal reason they constantly get lucky) Plus they're the least corrupt when it comes to operating which is why their colleagues are weary of them.

OOC2: I decided to be ICly oblivious to the events that already happened after the first few posts so that the two agents could ask people questions, get answers and such to make things interesting.

IC:

(INTEL Headquarters Fullborough)

Agent Moldy was reading a newspaper as his partner Bony entered with two cups of coffee.

Bony: Coffee Modly?

Moldy: Sure, Bony? What do you know about ghosts?

Bony: Ummm welll...I know after years of workign with you they exist becaust they've either attacked interacted us earlier on many occasions, remember the good spirit of Clarptown?

Moldy: Yes, I remember. I've just read this article in the news about this incident in a train station in Kylesburg. Too many things are left unexplained even after the proper authorities, I beleive this is a Y-file.

Bony: Moldy, we can't just assume that because many things are left unexplained its a Y-file, it could be that-

Moldy: That what? *begins walking out of office*

Bony: Where are you going?

Moldy: Asking Assistant Director Gutter for this assignment, he can't refuse, our government wants as much knowledge on the paranormal as possible.

Bony: Unless of course the people of Kylesburg refuse our help. *smirks*

Moldy: They won't, we're the best at what we do, and don't forget, we're 100% corruption free *chucks empty disposable coffee cup into recycle*

To authorities Kylesbrugh:

This is the Y-File division of the INTEL. Our goal is to explain the unexplained and help create a better understanding of our universe, we operate entirely in secret. We have investigated many paranormal cases outside of South Lizasauria's border by either the request of the government there or because we asked permission to help out and they accepted. We'd like offer you our help, two of our top agents; Moldy and Bony would like to help you get to the bottom of this so no one else dies. They are the best at what they do. Should you accept they'll be there within a day, should you not accept then we'll leave it at that.

The Squids were in full deploy alert status. As they checked and rechecked their equipment, word came that the President of Kylesburg affirmed Sethanis' offer.

Amra, titular head of the squad, snapped the last battle-knife onto his arm and said, "OK, ladies. We've got the go-ahead into Kylesburg. We don't know exactly what's happenin' there, but it has earmarks of the Essenian thing a half-century ago. You all know how THAT eventually turned out."

" Friggin' great. That's what the world needs right now. Another demon-rebel bunch of megalomaniacs. Don't tell me....we're going against werewolves, vampires, sorcerors and the like." This from Esse, the oldest of the squad.

Amra smiled. "That remains to be seen, Esse. You can't rule anything out these days. There's plenty out there that we don't have a clue about."

"OK, so what's the deal", Esse asked.

"What we have so far is a confirmed chem attack with the agent named as cyanide. Three typed lines delivered to the Prez. We have no clue, nor do they, who it could be. At least that what theyr'e claiming."

Team member Nnam asked, "And where do we fit in?"

"We are going to gather as much info as possible and render support to the authorities. Kylesburg is a relatively new nation with a small but growing national force."

"And what do we do when we find out who/what perpetrated the attack?"

Amra turned and fixed Nnam with a stare, saying nothing for a few seconds. "Why, what we usually do. Kill them all, no quarter asked, none given, no prisoners. Complete obliteration. That was the Emperor's final word on terrorism. So it is now."

He tried to move his feet, they were tied too. He tried to scream, but there was something in his mouth and it was taped shut…

He was being dragged down somewhere. He tried to resist, but every time, a strong pair of hands, along with the occasional kick, prevented him from going anywhere…

He then felt a whiff of air and the sting of cold metal. He felt the metal bite onto his back as he was being lifted up. And then gravity took its effect, and his life…

ic: "Squid One ready for jump?" The helicopter gunship was slowing it's speed for the drop into Kylesburg. Amra asked, "Where do you have in mind Captain?"

"Well, the stinkin' country is tiny, and it's the middle of the night. How's about we land ya near the Court building?"

"As long as no one shoots at us, I don't give a rat's ass where we land."

"OK, the green area out in front of the courthouse it is. There in 60 seconds."

"Ready squad? We're being dropped in town near the courthouse. I don't expect any problems as they know we're coming and the good captain here has radioed our presence to Kylesburgh security forces. Nonetheless, be on your toes. Anti-chem masks in place. Silencers at full restrict. If we need to kill right away, do it with your blades. Got it?"

In unison, the team responded. "Got it, sir!"

"OK, Captain, we're ready when you are."

Captain Peters hit the 'go' button, and the commandos rappelled down the ropes from the HGS. The near-silence of the AirWolf apparently did not draw any notice.

Amra spent a couple of minutes checking a map of Kylesburgh looking up as he located a landmark. With hand-signals, he gathered the force together and they fanned out, heading west towards the courthouse.

It was a mild, cloudy night, no wind to speak of. The 12 commandos kept in constant contact. As they neared the square where the courthouse was located, they could see the beginnings of a populated area.

"Mark time people." All responded: "0332 sir". "Check", replied Amra.

They were within 50 yards of the building when Rema over on the right flank held up his fist. They all stopped, listening, their senses tuned high............

This attack looks similar to an attack a group called Aum Shinrikyo carried out on a Tokyo subway in 1995." Giuliano explained.
"Sounds like this modus operandi's been used before." Hotchkiss said absentmindedly. "How were they caught? Can we trace this thing back to the perpetrators?"

"You looking for the owner of that backpack?" A crime scene technician yelled at them. Obviously he had been listening to their conversations. "Well look at the CCTV footage."

"This City's presence? Why would anybody not want Kylesburgh in this island? No, no, there is nothing I know... for all I know this could be a foreign attack, a terrorist attack, a cult attack, or something. But still, Kylesburgh has no enemies, foreign or domestic."

Doctor Merit Thought to himself. He then overheard the crime scene technician say something about the tapes. He looked over at the Special Agent. The exchanged glances and nodded to each other. The whole group then walked over to where the tech was. Giuliano explained the 1995 attack to Hotchkiss as they walked. "Well in that attack the terrorist were way too sloppy." He replied.

"So where are these tapes?", Agent Maël asked the tech.

"What is it?" Szczepanski asked. "You saw something?"

"Yes, in the forest," Lansfield said as he started to get out of the car.

OOC: I hope you don't mind me joining in, do you? This is quite interesting. Where in the world would The Free State of Kylesburgh be located? If so, what roles do you need filling?

The technician led them inside an office where the operations of Sherbourne Street Station were being overseen.

"Here," rewinded the footage back to the timestamp of 06:16:44 PM. From the camera facing north, they could clearly see a seemingly empty southbound train pulling up onto the station. Ten seconds later, the people farthest from the camera started panicking. The panic spreads as the train comes to a stop.

Some people move away. The doors opened at 06:17:02, and as the first people fall down, the mass of people began to run away from the train, stampeding, many falling down. There was no visible smoke whatsoever.

"How about the backpack?" Morehouse asked.

"Brehaut got the two from coach 2 of train C-15." He loaded the tape, and then rewinded the footage to 06:12:03. He then pointed the backpack and then to a guy in a Kylesburgher Army uniform. "He seems to own the backpack."

OOC: Y-Files? Awesome! Yeah we still run that program :).

Until now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had no dealings with The Free State of Kylesburgh, a tiny island-nation in the western Pacific Ocean, slightly over 8,000 miles away from Layarteb City, nestled on the western shores of the Atlantic Ocean. They only got wind of what was going on through the international television channels that were received through the Ministry of Intelligence as well as international newspapers. All those said though was that there was a terrible chemical attack of cyanide gas to the subway systems with over a hundred fatalities and there were probably more since then. The attack, at rush hour, was definitely meant to send some sort of message to both the people and the government. There was practically no risk of the terrorism coming to the Empire, not that terrorism itself did not plague the Empire. The Illuminati and their mercenary group, the Ghost Warriors, had turned the Empire inside and out, using just about every method of attack, save for biological warfare. Because of this, the Empire had significant experience dealing with terrorism, which was why any offer to help was definitely hoping to yield results.

Authorized to do so, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a communique to the The Free State of Kylesburgh asking if they would require assistance. The credentials were given as well as the capabilities and history of the Empire's bought with history, an abridged version of course.

Rema pointed at the sports car that had almost passed by their position. The driver slammed on the brakes and was getting out of the vehicle when Amra signaled Esse forward and to the left, Rema to the right. In less than 10 seconds they had flanked the car. The driver hadn't taken a half-dozen steps when he became aware of someone just behind him, to his right. As he turned to see what or who it was, he took in the whole scene in a flash.

Two black-clad military types, one holding a rifle on him, the other pulling Sabrina out of the car, forcing her onto the ground. He felt his blood rising when he saw Sabrina, and just at that moment, the rifleman spoke.

"Just take it easy and keep calm there cowboy. It's 0233 in the AM. What the hell you doin' out here when everyone else is asleep?"

There were only two people taking care of the situation, and fortunately, the media hadn't arrived yet and the building security was cooperating and was helping them. One policewoman from the crime lab had just finished taking photographs of the victim.

Twenty-nine-year-old Adam Nygaard was slumped face down on the street, wearing nothing but his white undershorts and white undershirt, now beginning to be stained with blood. He was blindfolded and his mouth duct-taped, his wrists and ankled bound with nylon rope. A puddle of blood formed beneath the body with streaks of red radiating out from the puddle.

"Brandon Ridley, sir." The guard answered. "I'm with the building security."

"I won't shut my mouth, damn you!" Sabrina shouted. "I don't care if all Kylesburgh wakes up at my voice! Let me go!"

Lansfield thought for a moment. If he told them, and they were the terrorists, they're doomed. He decided not to speak.

Rema grabbed her by her hair, hauled her up a foot, and punched her in the mouth just hard enough to knock her out for a couple of minutes. Amra said, "Good. Now we can get some info without all the noise." Turning back to Lansfield, he said, "Sir, I'm here at the request of your government to aid you in the capture and/or eradication of the terrorists who attacked your people with cyanide. My name is Amra. We're from the Xeraphian Empire. Now, I'll ask you one more time. Is she who she says she is, and, who are you? Thirty seconds, sir." He and the Squids around him leveled their weapons at them. They would not hesitate to kill them should Amra give the order..........

"Sounds good. Right, well, if you need me, give me a shout."

Well, first thing's first. Pulling on a pair of latex gloves, he checked up and down the door and it's frame. Hmm...guess Nyland knew his attacker...or Spiderman decided to drop in for a chat.

Opening the door, he gave a quick search of the flat, before shouting for Ridley.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was flying on only a half load. Since the Empire had no diplomatic relations with The Free State of Kylesburgh, travel was at one's own expense. Few people from the Empire actually would travel there or anywhere not under some sort of protection by a consulate or an embassy. The terrorism incident only made those numbers decline further. It was good that it was, the three person team from the Ministry of Justice's CJA-CTG team could bring a good deal of equipment and luggage with them. They also carried the standard issue sidearm of all federal law enforcement officers, the M110A3 Pistol, a .40SW pistol manufactured by the Layartebian Defense Corporation and based heavily on the Smith & Wesson M&P. It had replaced the venerable M33 Pistol only two months prior. The team would be required to get special permits once they landed, something that they would be granted. The Ministry of Justice had sent over the request ahead of time, so that no customs agents would be surprised. Any other necessarily information, save for the actual blueprints, were sent over ahead of time just as well.

The team's job was more analytical than anything else. The Kylesburghian [ooc: is that the right adjective?] law enforcement agencies would have a myriad of evidence collected. However, they would have questions about how it tied in, who was responsible, and what not. The Layartebian team could piece together the entire timeline of events and hoped to find out the who and the why rather than the what and the how, that could be left up to the Kylesburghian authorities. The Dreamliner touched down at Kylesburgh IAP shortly before noon after an 8,000 mile flight. They had used the low-capacity of the airliner to find an area where nobody was sitting, cordoned it off, and did their own pre-landing analysis.

Once they were on the ground, they gathered their luggage and equipment, mostly highly encrypted and secured laptop computers, satellite communications equipment, and other assorted items, and hoped to meet a liason from Kylesburgh near the customs area of the airport.

Burlbaugh and Draeger had just finished covering up Nygaard's body with a white sheet before press photographers could come to snap their gruesome pictures. The white sheet immediately soaked up the blood, and the car from the morgue was taking so long...

Burlbaugh's radio crackled to life. He listened for a moment, and then answered, "Yessir." He then turned to Draeger. "Officer Gardyner wants me to get the security camera tapes. I'll be back."

Officer Burlbaugh went inside the building and immediately greeted the woman on the front desk. "Hello, where is the security office?"

She pointed him to a dark corridor to the left. "At the last door at end of that corridor, to the right. I don't know if Jim is there."

"Okay, thank you."

Officer Burlbaugh paced casually through the dimly lit corridor. When he arrived at the door, he paused and knocked. There was no answer. He knocked again. "This is Officer Kyle Burlbaugh, Kylesburgh Police. Open the door."

Nobody opened the door.

The woman saw him from the other end of the corridor. "Is there a problem, officer?"

"No, no. Nothing," the rookie cop said dismissively.

"Just open the door. Perhaps Jim is outside. I'll try to find him for you after I finish this," the woman said, and then turned her attention to somebody waiting at the front desk.

Burlbaugh opened the door and entered the also dimly-lit room. There was a television screen on one end of the room, but it was off. There was an array of controls beside it, and on the desk was a man... with his neck slashed. Blood was starting to drip to the floor.

But before he could even turn around or touch his radio or his gun, he felt the quick stab of a large knife penetrate his back. He tried to reach for his gun, but the attacker grabbed his arm and twisted it to his back as the assailant withdrew the blade out of Burlbaugh's flesh. The severely bleeding police officer tried to resist and look at his killer. But he never even caught a glimpse when the attacker quickly slashed the officer's neck, severing the arteries and veins, sending blood spurting out of Burlbaugh's neck. The killer then finished off Kyle Burlbaugh with a stab in the heart and left him bleeding on the floor, dead.

McSlarrow was back in the airport again. With the team from Tristan Providence in the Crime Lab and only the investigation team remaining in Sherbourne Street station, his boss asked him to pass by the Department of Public Safety, get the permits, and head to Kylesburgh International Airport. There was a team from Layarteb who would also be assisting the investigation, and he had to meet them.

He parked his armored SUV at the terminal and headed to the tarmac. He saw three people with lots of sophisticated equipment. It must be them, he thought. No way anybody's going to Kylesburgh for vacations after what had happened. He walked towards them.

"Good morning, I'm Rainier McSlarrow, Kylesburgher Undersecretary for Public Safety. You are the team sent by The Insurmountable Empire of Layarteb, am I right?"

'Rule Number One', thought Amra, 'Never Fight Angry'. He deftly side-stepped the big man's clumsy effort and chopped at the back of his skull. He glanced at Nnam and grinned, " Seems these Kyleburgites are thick-headed. Don't seem to understand english." He gestured to two of the other Squids. "You two tie 'em up and tape their mouths shut. Dump 'em in the trunk of the car and park it in the woods back there. Even if she IS a councilwoman, I don't need her runnin' around here with that big mouth of hers."

Nnam gave a short, nervous laugh. "I'm surprised you didn't kill 'em, sir. Anyone else would have."

Amra gave him a hard stare. "I'm not anyone else, Nnam. Use your head. If we killed 'em, and they turned out to be VIPs, we'd be screwed. If they were terrorists, and we killed 'em, we'd never find out where they came from. They didn't have any weapons and aside from that pathetic attempt by the big guy, neither one tried to harm us."

Nnam looked down. "Well, I suppose your'e right, sir. It's just that with our reputation....."

"These people don't know a dammed thing about our reputation, soldier. Sometimes mercy will open doors faster than violence."

"Sometimes, sir..........."

"That's right, Nnam. Sometimes a merciful gesture.........sometimes a bullet in the back of the head. Whatever gets us what we need....."

"Good morning, I'm Rainier McSlarrow, Kylesburgher Undersecretary for Public Safety. You are the team sent by The Empire of Layarteb, am I right?" The man said as the three agents walked up to the area. The lead of the team, James Gearfield stopped and put out his hand.

"James Gearfield and yes we are. These are my associates, Kelly Hoffman and Frederick Loughton." The man said as he removed his dark, Oakley sunglasses, the rest of the team doing more or less the same, their pistols holstered at their sides. "I understand we will need a special permit for these. Are you required to hold them until that time? We do not want to offend anyone here. It is the hope of my government that these events turn out for the better and a long relationship can be sustained by both of our great, respective nations." He added with a smile.

Whilst waiting for Burlbaugh, Gardyner went on checking the residence. He found very little - and that was what disturbed him. No signs of a struggle, just - just an unmade bed. Considering that the guy was a Chief Justice, he'd probably have a cleaner or something to take care of it. A very shoddy cleaner, or he was very quick out of bed to meet the person at the door...

It had been 10 minutes now, and no response from Burlbaugh. Ergh, too engrossed in chatting with security, I bet.

"Burlbaugh, this is Gardyner. Where are those tapes?"

No response.

"Burlbaugh, this is Gardyner. You there?"

"We certainly hope so," McSlarrow said, leading them to his armored SUV. "We don't really have an idea of who did this. We are a small island city-state, and we don't have foreign enemies or domestic terrorists."

Once they were all inside the car and the equipment loaded, McSlarrow started the car.

McSlarrow drove away from the terminal and reached the gate. He then turned left on Orchard Road, intending to take the Carpathian Tunnel into Kylesburgh proper. Within a few moments, he had reached the intersection, and turned right on Centre Avenue.

The car had just entered the shelter of the nearly-empty tunnel when McSlarrow noticed a tank truck entering the other end of the tunnel. All of a sudden, the tanker bursts into a ball of flame that started racing across the tunnel, barreling towards them.

"F*cking Christ!" McSlarrow murmured as he jammed the car in reverse and tried to extricate the SUV out of the tunnel. Once he was out, he furiously turned the steering wheel to the left. The car went off the road to rest safely on an orchard seconds before an explosion was heard and fire shot out of their end of the tunnel.

There were no further incidents as the team approached the court building. "We'll hole up here 'til someone fetches us to whomever. Set watchers at the perimeters. Kill anyone who makes a hostile move towards us. Four awake, eight asleep, two hour interval."

Amra was already weary of this assignment. The Squids were used to an 'in-and-out' scenario. 'We've already been here too long', he thought. He decided, just before he fell asleep, that these people had 24 hours to show some sort of serious interest in finding and eliminating the terrorists. If they didn't, SKWD would take matters into their own hands.....

The phone call went out as the three agents rushed to the entrance of the tunnel. Structurally, the tunnel seemed okay so they ventured into it. The cars that had not escaped were still burning and several of them had occupants still inside, although many of them were dead already or too close to dying to worry about, as screams echoed from here and there. Some people were more fortunate than others, having vehicles or other objects to defend them against the massive fireball that echoed through the tunnel. With traffic stopped in both directions and the fire department on the way, the agents would do as much as they could. They were trained in basic first-aid and triage and that meant they moved by several vehicles with people who were barely alive. Instead, they listened to the screams for help. Those people were much better off, injured mostly but not teetering on death. Those were the people the agents went to save and they began to pull bodies from the wrecks, children amongst them.

McSlarrow was just leaving the car to follow the Layartebians when Secretary Holtz answered his call.
"This is Derrick Holtz speaking," the secretary said in a sleepy voice.
"Boss! This is McSlarrow," he said as the smell of smoke, gasoline, and charred flesh threatened to nauseate him. "There's an explosion at Carpathian Tunnel!"
Holtz was jolted awake by the news. Not another terrorist attack. It would push Kylesburgh into chaos. "When?"
"Just now. I was escorting the Layartebians to Sherbourne when we saw the explosion."
"You saw the explosion?"
"Yes. A tank truck exploded as it entered the tunnel."
"The Layartebians?"
"They're helping the people in here."
"Damn. Are there firefighters in the scene?"
"None here. We're at the other end of the tunnel, at Old Kylesburgh. The explosion's closer to the city proper. But there are casualties on our side too."
"Then go and help 'em first. I'll go ring the President."

McSlarrow ended the call and rushed to the Layartebians who are helping the injured. "Should I bring some of these wounded to the hospital now?"

We could use something a little bigger than what we have here and that wouldn't be a bad thing to do." One of the agents yelled, pulling another victim from the wreck, who was able to stand but very faint and weak.

"Good. Alright. Fred stay here. Kelly, you and I are going to follow him to the hospital." All together they had about a half dozen of the most serious cases out of their cars and the agents carried them out of the tunnel towards cars that had been stopped by the explosion. James took one look at the first car, a small SUV big enough to carry three people in it, and shouted to the driver. "Get out of your vehicle. Now!" He yelled without any question of doubt. If he had to, he would use the firearm to commandeer the vehicle but he didn't want to do that, it was bad enough that he could be venturing down a dangerous road of international incident but he was an officer on the scene and that meant he had to make a call and he did, to save who he could and as many as he could. Kelly mirrored his actions not far away.

Kevin Odegaard had just entered Carpathian Tunnel when this woman shouted at him to get out of the car. He still hadn't internalized the burnt carnage before him, and then this. A hijacking? A woman? No way.

He then saw the injured and burned people lying on the pavement. "Just yield to them!" A person in a coat and tie yelled at him and another driver. He was carrying one injured girl outside the tunnel. Odegaard realized what was happening.

"You need to bring them to the hospital? Load them in the car and I'll drive you to the hospital."

Not quite two hours later an explosion about 3/4 mile away woke them all from much needed sleep. The watchers were the first to react by sprinting a hundred yards towards the explosion to head off any potential attack.

The rest of the team slapped their gear together in less than a minute and, fanning out in a staggered flanking manuver, proceeded at a walk towards the now bright sky where something was burning.

They came to a road, marked Main Avenue, and Amra stopped them while he waited for a report from the scouts. They came back in a few minutes.

"Sir, a vehicle explosion near a tunnel that leads towards the old section of town and an airport. We saw some non-Kylesburgh nationals responding. We don't recognize the uniform markings."

"Hmmmf...so other countries are now involved. Anything or anyone in between us and the tunnel?"

"No sir. We can walk straight up Gothenburg Avenue with no one to challenge us....if you like."

"I don't like. We'll proceed up this road with all due caution 'til we come to the tunnel."

"We can cut across a grassy area towards the tunnel and seclude ourselves in a little wooded patch right across from the explosion site", said the scout.

"Good. That's what we'll do. Let's go people....quickly and cautiously. This might be the break we need...."

The loud noise of heavy metal played through the speakers of the Ghost's (http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/03/24/icon_ghostrecon25_narrowweb__300x388,0.jpg) C-130 transport as it touched down on the tarmac. Most of the men who were on the flight were combat veterans, and this mission would be quite easy for them; On one occasion the Ghost's guessed where the enemy would be hiding, and ambushed them before they even got there.

The Ghost's Squad leader was Thomas Knight, a hardened veteran who had served with the Ghosts for 15 years and had gained 149 confirmed kills.
As the men exited the aircraft, the pilot radioed the squad "Knight, we're getting confirmation on a second terrorist attack, proceed to the targeted area immediately" Knight smiled grimly "I'm on my way" He said as he grabbed his XM8 and ordered his squad to the position. He waited for a minute, grabbing an extra clip and running after his squad...

"Okay," she acquiesced, running the print through the entire database. It took a while for the results to appear.

"No matches found in the database."

Autopsy Room, Kylesburgh Crime Laboratory
2587 Centre Avenue, Kylesburgh
03:17 AM, June 17, 2008

On the corridor leading to the autopsy room, there was a row of body bags waiting to be opened. The autopsy room seemed to be buzzing with activity, despite the autopsy lab having only four staff: Dr. Malcolm Kent, the senior (read:elderly) forensic pathologist; Dr. Dean Boehner, the pathology fellow; Dr. Adrienne McDowell, the pathology resident; and the autopsy lab technician.

The lone autopsy lab technician went out the door to get another body bag. He noticed Chadbourne and Dr. Merit. "You helping?"

"Er, no," Chadbourne said. "We're here for Dr. Kent."

"Oh, he's busy. We've ran out of storage space in the freezer, and we have more than fifty bodies to autopsy, plus more are arriving from the hospital. At the rate we're goin', we'd finish all of the dead in more than a week!"

Dr. Merit looked at the surrounding body bags. So many people have died as a result of these attacks. The overwhelming site of these bodies seemed to push Dr. Merit more to find the culprits. "We are looking for the body of a man named Driscoll. He was in a military uniform." The Doctor explained to the man.

Meanwhile Agent Maël was frustrated with his situation. No file in the database meant a dead end. He paced around the room. His eyes watched the floor as he walked from one side of the room to another. "Send the prints to the Royal Federal Police in Tristan Providence. We will compare it to a list of international criminals." Maël said.

"Thank you!" Kelly yelled over the roar from the tunnel and opened the door to put the victims in the vehicle. "Hang on!" She told each and every one of them as they sped off to the hospital. In light of the proactive attitude of the drivers, Kelly would stay behind with Frederick while James went to the hospital with McSlarrow. Both Kelly and Frederick looked down the tunnel with a sense of shock. "What the hell have we gotten into?" She asked as they walked back into the tunnel, flashing lights behind, in front of, and all around them. "You think they were after us?"

"Could be. Not many people know we're here except maybe the government. Perhaps that's where we have to start looking. Chances are though. If this isn't an accident. They're going to have someone on scene to watch these proceedings. Let's start looking around. Anyone suspicious, haul them out."

"Got it." They pulled badges from their pockets, threw them around their necks, and began to look around at the cars. Anyone who looked as if they had been there for a while were going to get questioned. Both agents had their pistols by their sides and radios with them. If anything went sour, they would radio to James and McSlarrow.

Amra surveyed the scene with disgust. "Dead bodies all over the place.....cyanide......car bombs....and all these people can do is wring their hands."

"Sir, you gotta realize that these people are not used to violence, never mind terror. It's difficult to respond to something never before experienced."

Amra looked at the trooper. "What're you, a fucking shrink? Experience or not, if someone is killing your citizens, you gotta do something about it. If you don't know how, find someone who does and let 'em do it. Lookit these people. Aside from the military types from wherever, their runnin' around like chickens with their heads cut off! Shit! We've been here over 5 hours and they never even acknowledged our transmission of arrival! I dunno, but maybe these people are getting what they deserve for their lack of vigilance."

"Sir, we've IDed the foreign commandos. Theyr'e Layartebians."

That got Amra's attention. "Layarteb, huh? Think back to your grade school years, Esse. What do you remember about Layarteb?"

Esse thought back many years. "Shit, sir, even when I was a little kid, that was really old history. Somethin' about National Socialism."

"More exactly, it was about ultra-rightest governments making an attempt to force their will on as many nations as possible. Xeraph was a member of the organization for a short while, as was Layarteb. The Emperor pulled out when Guffingford started to gain ascendancy. Alaric and that prick Keller never got along."

"Nope, they hadn't found it yet. Perhaps it is in one of those body bags," the technician bent down and opened the body bag nearest to him. It was what they were looking for: a tall burly male in his early twenties, in full battledress, and his namepatch read Driscoll. "There's your guy," the technician said. "Come with me, and we'll ID him."

The technician carried the body bag onto a table as his visitors wore a laboratory gown and gloves. The technician searched the pockets.

After a rather long wait, Chadbourne returned to the Autopsy Lab. with pieces of paper.

"Well, guess who Lachlan Driscoll's parents are?" He handed them a birth certificate from the Kylesburgh Statistics Office. "Colonel Kurt Driscoll of the Kylesburgh Army and some Lillian McCurdy Driscoll. He is the second of thee children: he's got an older brother, Private First Class Kenzie Driscoll of the Kylesburgh Army, and a younger sister, Michelle Driscoll.

"However, we need a court order first before we can look at his private accounts like phone records, don't worry, we'll get it soon.

Apparently, Driscoll lives at Camp Kyle, but he has a mobile phone. Can't say about e-mail, though, but we are asking Kylesburgh Online to search for any e-mail address belonging to him."

Doctor Merit and Special Agent Giuliano smiled. "Well, looks like we're going to take a trip to the base to meet this 'Colonel Kurt Driscoll', after that we'll hit up the rest of his family." Doctor Merit explained as he motioned everyone to the door. He opened the door while he was explaining the gameplay. "We will leave the others here to carry out there investigations. The 3 of us will head to the base."

Richards followed him to the pile of stuff form the train. The backpack in question was a big backpack, obviously capable of holding the box. She read the brand. "The Outdoorsman. It's a popular brand of bag here in Kylesburgh. I own one of these, I use them for hiking up Kylesburgh National Park. This has lots of pockets." She turned her attention to a 'secret' pocket inside the bag. She stuck her hand in and fished out something.

"Guess who likes to go to the museum?" She remarked as she fished out an entrance ticket for the National Museum of Kylesburgh.

She flipped the ticket over and saw a something scribbled on it. "KM# 0000002. Now what the hell is that?"

"KM# 0000002? Could it be a password?" he muttered. The mystry just kept getting deeper and deeper, with no end in site. "Call the Museum, see if it means anything to him." he said candidly.

Camp Kyle Military Base

It took them a little longer to reach the military base. The explosion at Carpathian Tunnel caused some traffic Centre Avenue. But after they went past Main Avenue, it was a easy drive.

Chadbourne turned left to the Centre Avenue gate of Camp Kyle. Their car was immediately stopped by a soldier. Chadbourne rolled down his window.

"This area is restricted, sir," the soldier informed them.

Chadbourne took out his ID. "Myron Chadbourne, Kylesburgh Crime Lab."

The soldier took the ID. "I'm afraid you still can't go in, sir," he said.

"At this ungodly hour?" Richards asked. "it's 5 AM in the morning. I doubt if someone would answer. As far as I know, the museum opens at 9 AM, but we can try calling at 8 am. Perhaps they start at office hours... and I'll dust these for prints, if I'm even going to get any... and perhaps there are some biologicals in the bag too..."

The soldier looked at the badge. He took the radio from his station and asked his superior if they can enter. But the reply was still the same.

"No, sirs, I'm afraid we still can't let you in," he said.

Chadbourne flipped open his mobile phone and called the crime lab. "Yes... we aren't allowed to go in. We are looking for a certain Colonel Kurt Driscoll, about the cyanide attack. Can you do something about it?... You will call Secretary Kryszewski? Wow, I didn't know you have connections... mmmkay, thanks, bye."

Thirty minutes later, a man, also dressed in fatigues, came to the gate. The soldier guard saluted the man, and it was very obvious that the newcomer was a high-ranking official...

The man went to Chadbourne's window. "Good morning, sirs," he began. "I'm Major General Buford Hodges, Kylesburgh Army. May I see your badges please?" He took a close look on Chadbourne's ID, and smiled as he handed it back to Chadbourne.

"I'm sorry if we caused you any delay. Security is being tightened here," Hodges explained. "You can park your car there, I'll have Private Follestad escort you there." He then turned tot he guard. "Follestad, guide them to the parking spot, then search them and the car. Have Sargeant Daugaard help you."

Chadbourne looked at Hodges, concerned. "A search is standard for visitors," Hodges explained. "I hope that's alright with you folks. And also I'd like to invite you to my office for breakfast before you talk to Colonel Driscoll, if you don't mind."

"Fine, I guess thats all we can do for now." He said as he watched Richards dust for prints on the strange ticket.
The search from the Royal Federal Police in Tristan Providence came up empty.

"No matches found," Richards said. "But I've got some prints in the ticket..."

As she was taking the prints to the scanner, she noticed a piece of paper lying on her table, a pamphlet from last year's election. She got a bright idea. The databse they were using contains prints form government employees and police records only... "Before I run the print from the ticket, I'd like to run the partials form the box with the database of the Kylesburgh Election Institute."

Within a few moments, the screen flickered to life: MATCH FOUND

"Ah, the benefits of compulsory voting," Richards remarked, and then read off the screen. "Shannon Ridley Burns. Age 20, born October 1 1987, lives in 25 Endurance Drive, Old Kylesburgh. Registered voter since September 15, 2006. Failed to vote in the last election."

"Maybe we oughtta get down there and mingle with the 'help', eh? said Nnam.

Amra thought for a moment then looked over at the trooper. "Maybe your'e right. Let's go. Single file, safety's off, but don't present your weapons in a menacing manner. Maybe we can figure out just what the hell is going on here...."

Southern End of Carpathian Tunnel
05:05 AM July 17, 2008
Several squad cars from the Kylesburgh Police raced up Centre Avenue from the station two blocks away, deliberately parking their cars to block both lanes of Carpathian Avenue. The firetrucks are already there, dousing the fire in the tunnel with water. Three firetrucks desperately tried to control the spread of the fire to a neighboring building near the mouth of the tunnel. Many residents of that building had already escaped, but firefighters are in to rescue a few more trapped inside the burning structure. Many of the displaced people were herded onto the other side of Carpathian Avenue, but chaos reigned in the area.

Lieutenant Bryce MacKechney was guiding people to safety to the other side of the street when a distraught mother approached him...

"Officer, please help me, my son is missing!" She then babbled rapidly between sobs, reducing her message into one incomprehensible gibberish.

"Calm down, ma'am," MacKechney said, "I can't understand you. Has your son left the building?"

"Yes, yes, Zack was with me," she explained, "but when I was about to cross the street, he was gone!"

"Where did you last see him?"

"There... there - " She then pointed, shakily, to an empty parking lot beside the building. The parking lot leads to the wooded hillside area behind the buildings along Carpathian Avenue.

"What was he wearing?"

After the woman explained to him, MacKechney told the woman to stay on the other side, and that he would try to find the boy. MacKechney went to the parking lot and saw nobody, except for fleeing people. He saw a fellow officer who was directing people to the other side of Carpathian Avenue. He asked him if he had seen anyone fitting the boy's description. He got a negative answer.

In his peripheral vision, Lieutenant Bryce MacKechney saw figures in the dark hillside woods. He looked around to see if he can find someone to back him up, but everybody had their hands full. Well, I was only looking for a missing kid. If these figures turn out to be... He brushed off the thought, readied his gun, and went into the woods.

The figures were marching stealthily towards him. He shone his flashlight in their direction. "Kylesburgh Police! Identify yourselves!"

Richards then took the prints from the ticket and ran it on the election database.

"Which one?" Hodges asked. Already there was deep disbelief in the General's face. "I think I should let you know that it is already the fifth generation of Driscolls to serve in the Kylesburgher Army. They are very loyal to Kylesburgh and, personally, I don't think they would be involved in such a thing as this attack. Their family had contributed a lot to Kylesburgh.

"The first Driscoll in Kylesburgh is Peter J. Driscoll, who arrived with Endurance. Peter Driscoll was a friend, and an assistant of James Thomas Sherbourne. They were one of the first settlers in the island. It is Peter Driscoll who organized the Kylesburgher Army.

"Now, if I had to go on and on, this would take us forever... That said, in accordance to my position as the Judge Advocate General of the Kylesburgher Army, I would like to inform you that the Kylesburgher Army would fully cooperate with this investigation. You can call me anytime if you need something."

"Yessir!"

"You call Colonel Driscoll now," he said, returning Strickland's salute. "Tell him to come here, he has visitors."

05:34 AM, June 17, 2008

President Chester Knutsen sat at the head of the table, watching his coffee turn cold as people started coming and taking their seats. He had called an emergency meeting of his key secretaries as soon as he heard word of an explosion at Carpathian Tunnel. Knutsen looked tired and sad, not wearing his usual sincere smile he has every meting.

His secretary Justine was to his left, ready to type whatever heeds to be typed. Defense Minister Hendrick Kryszewski was in first, as usual. Transportation and Communication Secretary Justin Carrillo was next, with a worried look in his face. “There was an explosion at Carpathian Tunnel about an hour ago,” he said.

“Yes, I know, we’ll talk about it later.”

Within a few minutes, every seat was filled. Police Chief Luke Pelletier was there, along with Public Safety Secretary Derrick Holtz. Foreign Affairs Secretary Erin Sarah MacKinnon sat with Finance Secretary Adrienne Balmer and Health Secretary Tyler LaManche. Best of all, Kylesburgh Council Speaker Bryan Descoteaux was there.

“Okay guys, let’s start,” Knutsen said. “I want to know what was happening in the investigation at Sherbourne.”
“We had finished cleanup, and are gathering evidence,” Holtz said.
“Any idea on who might have done this?”
“None yet, sir, but I still haven’t talked to the lead investigator since four hours ago - ”
“None yet? Dammit, there are two foreign teams helping you – ”
“Sir, one was involved in the explosion at Carpathian Tunnel,” Carrillo started, but was immediately cut off.

“I said we will talk about that one later, right?” Knutsen said, irritated. For a moment, LaManche and MacKinnon’s eyes met and understood each other. This was something new. The President was not known for his anger…

“Mister President, we are trying our best and putting all of our available manpower on this investigation,” Holtz said softly. “We trust that we would get a lead soon.”

“Make it sooner. Who’s leading the investigation?”
“Detective Morehouse, sir,” Chief Pelletier said.
“Have her report to me later this afternoon at five. I want to be updated on their investigation. Tyler, how is our hospital coping?”

“Badly, sir, badly,” LaManche reported. “Kylesburgh General doesn’t have that many beds to accommodate all of the victims, but we tried our best to save lives.”

“How about now, that there is an explosion?” Balmer asked.
“Some of the victims had been sent home, some remain, and they are being transferred to the words or private suites to free the emergency room. I was informed that the first victims had been sent already…”

“Now, about that explosion earlier…”
“Mister President, a tank truck exploded at the southern end of the Carpathian Tunnel about an hour ago,” Holtz began, “I haven’t got word on the casualties yet, but my undersecretary, McSlarrow, was there with the team from Layarteb when it happened. They are helping out the victims. The Fire Department reports that the fire is already under control.”

“Any idea on what happened?”
“We would start searching as soon as the fires are put out, but we had sent every available person to the scene, sir, but we are being overextended,” Pelletier said.

“How about the commandos and elite forces from Xeraph and Cazelia?”
Kryszewski cleared his throat. “What are these commandos?”
“Xeraph and Cazelia offered to assist us by sending in commando teams to aid us,” MacKinnon answered.
“And you approved it?” Kryszewski gave her the evil eye. MacKinnon tilted her head in the direction of the President.
“I approved it, Hendrick,” Knutsen said.
“Why Mister President? You haven’t even mobilized our military yet and you let them in?”
“Alright, alright,” Knutsen began, “we are overextended. The police forces are overextended. I cannot mobilize the military without the consent of the Kylesburgh Council. And as of last night, the Council won’t give me the nod to mobilize the military. All I can do is ask General Brinkerhoff if he can send some of his boys to the scene.”

“Has anybody met them?”
“No, not yet,” Holtz said. “They’re commandos, Hendrick.”
“No, we still have to meet them,” Kryszewski insisted. “They might not know what we are looking for. Plus, if we deputize them, they will know what they should be doing, right?”

“I agree with that, Hendrick,” Knutsen said. “I want you to take care of that.”
“Wait – ” Balmer interrupted, “are you sure that allowing foreign commandos in Kylesburgh is legal?”
“The Kylesburgh Constitution does not say anything about foreign forces in Kylesburgh soil.” Knutsen looked at MacKinnon. “Erin, had you ran it with Adam?”

“Er, no, sir – ”
“Sir, I hate to say this,” Pelletier said, “but Justice Secretary Adam Nygaard is dead.”
All of those who did not know looked shocked. The police chief allowed for a moment of silence, and then continued. “Murdered. Thrown off his balcony. I have some people working on it...”

Nothing. That was they key word for the meeting. They knew nothing about the perpetrators, nothing about who made it, no, no, nothing. They were all frustrated. All they had was the uneasy gut feeling that Kylesburgh was in danger.

“Let’s all give the people some semblance of calm and normality, alright?” Knutsen said. “Life must go on in Kylesburgh.”
“Well, wouldn’t that put them in danger?” LaManche asked. “I mean…”
“That’s why we’re going to have to tighten up security. Bryan, I would like to get the Council mobilize the Kylesburgh Armed Forces. If we could get the Council grant emergency powers to my office and the Cabinet, much better. Derrick, I want every available officer in the streets, make the people feel safe. And I want to get an update on the cyanide attack, on Adam’s death, and on that tunnel explosion, okay? Adrienne, just make sure we’ve got the money for whatever operations we need…”

"Strickland!" He called his adjutant in the other room. The soldier quickly came, and saluted Hodges.

"Yessir!"

"You call Colonel Driscoll now," he said, returning Strickland's salute. "Tell him to come here, he has visitors."

"Yessir!" The soldier went off the errand.

Draeger peered out from the side of the column and saw Gardyner near the receptionist's desk. She felt more relief now that she had a companion... the killer could still be lurking in the building.

She left the cover of the pillar and walked towards Gardyner. "What happened to Burlbaugh? How about the tapes?"

Gardyner made a slashing motion across his neck.

"Not nice. Not nice at all. So. Double homicide for you there Ms Draeger. How many staircases has this place got?"

Marvine Draeger felt bad about Kyle Burlbaugh. That kid was nice and sweet, eager to learn things about being a cop... but the risk of death was one of the things that had to be faced on this job...

"This place has thirty floors. There are three elevators, though only one is turned on during the we hours of the morning like this. There are two emergency exits, staircases, one on that end of the corridor" - she pointed in the direction of the security office - "and one on the end of the other corridor."

"Yes. We were told of your presence," Kelly said as she surveyed the scene. "Damage control right now. We don't have any number and I'm not looking to get a number. We've got survivors in there so help us. We need help getting them out and we aren't going to do squat standing here talking. You got guns too. Might as well protect us if you aren't going to dig out the bodies." She said forcefully to the Cazelian commander as she began to return to the scene. Police were finally arriving and though it was hard to see through the heat of the tunnel, it appeared that, at the far end, the police had just been approached by a large group of commandoesque individuals. What now? She thought as she returned to a smoldering car with a small child inside, a child who had been instantly killed.

It wouldn't be long before the scene was cleared up and Kelly hoped that the Layartebian team would be reunited with McSlarrow so that they could put the pieces together, especially if the tunnel attack had been a deliberate attack against them.

Howell's Cafe and Diner

05:44 AM June 17, 2008
Howell's Cafe and Diner was on the first floor of an fifty-year-old building directly across the Kylesburgh Crime Lab. Many of its patrons include the police officers from the nearby Kylesburgh Police Headquarters (just beside the crime lab), and as such, it is open 24/7.

Elaine led Marvin to one of the booths beside the glass walls facing Centre Avenue. The faint sound of firetrucks and police cars can be heard fom two blocks away.

She tried to look for the cheerful chubby Mr. Howell, the diner's owner, but he wasn't to be seen. A waitress approached them. Of course she knew the night shift waitress, as Elaine works up to the we hours of the morning.

I'd soon celebrate my first year in NS (in December), and through I observed RPs and posted occasionally on embassy and other non-war threads (as B&N), I never really RPed here in II. (And even though I spent months observing, I realized that I can never really learn how to RP unless I do it myself, and that I didn't really learn just by observing... so I felt that I was still a beginner...) I created Kylesburgh with its history so I can make my first serious RP and learn how to RP... meanwhile, back to topic...)

"Clear!"

Current flowed again to the paddles, sending a wave of shock to the badly burned body of a girl. The body heaved, but the heart was jolted back from its irregular fast-paced rhythm - temporarily. As soon as the defibrillator was rolled away, the tachycardia returned again...

"She's decompensating," Kimbrell shouted. "Epinephrine now!" He gestured to a medical clerk. "One more IV line please, fast infusion 0.45 NSS, search for the right femoral vein. The left's too badly burned to use."

"Scott," Dempsey said, "we need the defibrillator again!"

Kimbrell looked around. Another team was using the defibrillator. They have to keep the girl alive until the defibrillator was free... but the girl was rapidly going down into hypovolemic shock...

"She's having ventricular tachycardia!" Dempsey yelled. "Go find another defibrillator!"

"Sh*t," Kimbrell raced to the nearest ward and took the the defibrillator, and ran it to the emergency room. When he returned, he was met by Genevieve's sad look. "We lost her."

McSlarrow was observing them from the periphery of his vision as he was helping clean the wounds of another patient. He felt sad... he carried that girl to the hospital...

The ringing of his mobile phone brought McSlarrow back form his sad musings.

"Hello? Secretary Holtz? Yes... Cazelians? No, I don't know. I left the Layartebians at the Carpathian... Secretary Kryszewski would meet the Cazelians? Yeah, the commandos? I'm here at Kylesburgh General. I'll be returning to Carpathian soon..."

"I'm sorry, but I have to go," McSlarrow said. He has to go back to the scene immediately. McSlarrow went to his car, turned on the ignition, and barreled down Main Avenue towards the sunrise.

Still holding his gun, he took out his radio with his other hand. "Captain Dorsett, I have here some armed people. They say they are Xeraphian Commandos to aid the government."

There was a curt reply.

"Roger that." MacKechney then turned to the Xeraphians. "Come with me. Captain Dorsett wants to talk with you guys."

The team followed the lieutenent towards a police van. They all got a good look at the devastation caused by the explosion. Medics were still pulling burned bodies out of the entrance of the tunnel, the stench of charred flesh heavy in the night air. Nnam pulled up alongside Amra as they walked.

"Amateurs , no?", he whispered.

"Hard to tell from here. Although I would lean towards that. Pros would have made sure the explosion occured well into the tunnel, collapsing a portion of it and creating a massive blockage in it. From what I recall of the map, this tunnel comes out near the airport and the old section of the town." He glanced at the lieutenant. "Looks like we're here." "Exactly what I was going to suggest, sir. I see that there are several other nations represented here, and I assume that they are here for the same reason.....to ferret out the perpetrators of these attacks and stop any further attacks. We Xeraphians have had extensive experience in these matters. To date, all nations' that asked us to help with their terror situations have been more than satisfied with the outcome." He allowed a small smile. "We're 14-0 in the terror resolution department. Most have been a case of isolating the renegades and eliminating them. He looked in horror as a burning tree beside the building fell to the ground, narrowly missing a police officer. "Right now, I think we can handle this," he told Amra as he watched firemen douse the tree, "perhaps your men might need some rest... for now. It could be a long day. The police barracks is just two blocks away at Centre and Main... Well if they want to stay here with us, it's fine with us also."

"MacKechney!" Dorsett called out the lieutenant who was escorting a boy to his mother. As mother and son reunite with a tight hug, the lieutenant turned his head towards them. "Come here and escort Commander Tan'it to Kylesburgh House."

"Yes sir."

Armitage was not in a good mood. Dispatch had interrupted his break at 05.30 hrs with an urgent order for him to assist in a murder investigation. At first he'd thought it a joke, but the way the dispatcher spoke soon told him other wise, then he was told what had happened while he'd been asleep.
The aging detective fumed as he drove his vehicle through the almost empty streets. This series of attacks on Kylesburgh was the equivilent of
child murder as far as he was concerned. The police and government just wern't equipt to handle this situation.

Armitage pulled up by an ambulance

He spotted a crime lab specialist and wandered over, he dug out his warrant card and flashed it in his face.

'Im looking for Gardyner, any idea where I can find him'

The worried looking guy pointed vaguely in the direction of 1755 Hampshire Avenue. 'Inside, they think the murderers inside, I don't believe this can be happening..'

'Calm down son, stay focused'

He noted the body of Nygaard and the pale looking young woman hovering nearby. She was chewing nervously on her knuckles and had tears in her eyes.

'And she is?'

'A witness I think, front desk receptionist, detective Draeger left her with us' They finished loading the body inside the ambulance. 'Sir, what about the bodies inside, how should..?'

Armitage held up a hand to silence him then reached into a deep pocket in his old battered green trenchcoat, he pulled out a small radio transmitter.

'Dispatch, Armitage!'

'Dispatch, go ahead'

'I'm at 1755 Hampshire, I need as many uniformed officers as you can spare, I have an unsecure crime scene with a possible perp at large, no secure perimeter at all, sort something out pronto'

He turned and walked over to the young receptionist. Miss.. I'm Armitage Detective Inspector, a few questions for you first. Have you been on duty all night

ooc
if she has then
1. 'Did you see Mr Nygaard come in'
2. 'Was he alone or with someone'
3. 'Do visitors to the building have to sign in'
4. 'Did Nygaard receive any visitors'
5. After officer Burlbaugh entered the security office, did you see anyone leave it'

ic
Armitage smiled encouragingly as he took notes. then he thanked her.
'Dispatch patch me through to officer Gardyner'

'Gardyner, Armitage, talk to me, over!'

"Nothing. Every cadet was off for vacation last week. I assumed he was just going home to his mother and sister. His older brother was here on base. He hadn't told me of anyone in particular he would be visiting... maybe his old friends, his friends off-base."

"Do you know any of their names Sir? His old friends off base?" Continued the Doctor.

OOC: Wow, sounds fun!! :D

"So your parents wanted you to be a priest," she said. What a waste of good genes!, she thought, Good thing he didn't go to the seminary...

"What did they say about you going into law enforcement? Were they afraid for you?"

OOC: Ya They didn't let us today. Something about the BDUs don't breath, so its bad to do PT in them. lol But I being the company commander, got to march people around allot.

"No... They just expected me to follow the family line. My father was a priest, and so was my grandfather, and my great grandfather, and so on and so forth. So they assumed I would be going to seminary, I surprised them by going to UP Law." Mavin said.

OOC: Kylesburgh are you a med student? You seem to know a lot about medical proceedures and what not.

James followed McSlarrow back to his car and back to the tunnel, where Kelly and Frederick were busy doing whatever else they could. The scene was still a mangled mess but, as time was passing, it was becoming less and less hectic, although, to look at, it was still a mangled mess. Reunited at the Carpathian Tunnel, the Layartebian team looked at McSlarrow and had but one question. "Who were they after?" Obviously, it couldn't be answered right away but James had a suspicion that his team was the target. "Who knows we're here?" Now it was a question of what came next. Evidence collection was up to the Kylesburghians but they wanted to piece everything together and they wanted to do it quickly. The country was becomming a three-ring circus with the amount of commandos, police agents, and investigators that everyone's hand would be in everything. James wanted to form a broader, investigative team, a single, cohesive unit of all the participating nations but that would require the Kylesburgh government's push. It could cut down on the overlap, ensure a speedier process, and allow each unit sent to use their best skills rather than focus on everything. It was an idea James presented McSlarrow.

1. 'Did you see Mr Nygaard come in'
"Yes sir, about midnight, sir."
2. 'Was he alone or with someone'
"He was alone, sir. He lives alone."
3. 'Do visitors to the building have to sign in'

"There were only a few people who came after midnight... the resident of 16C... the teenagers from 22K... and the new tenants at... what was their room again? Oh I can't remember..."
5. After officer Burlbaugh entered the security office, did you see anyone leave it'

The new tenants came by... talked for about five minutes, they were asking for some things, then they went up to their room. When I looked at the room, the officer was dead..."

"I would agree to that," McSlarrow said. He was tired of running back and forth between investigations. "Though for my superiors it's more logical to think that the events are unrelated unless proven otherwise. This explosion could just be an accident... cigarettes and tank trucks don't mix well. But it's certainly possible that this explosion has a connection with the cyanide attack last night. Perhaps if we could find evidence to somehow link this explosion..."

His eyes turn to the now-smoldering wreckage of the truck and the firefighters who were investigating the cause of the explosion.

“Good morning, this is Councilor Descoteaux. Is Councilor Schoenborn there?”

He wondered why Nygaard’s death hadn’t hit the news yet. He was about to pick up the phone to call his contact when the phone itself rang.

It was his contact. Nygaard was finished. Along with two other people. His contact was nearly caught by a cop, but he was quicker. It was bloody work, though.

He relished satisfaction in his work. Three blows to Kylesburgh… more to come. More punishments for the sins Kylesburgh had done.

'I'll take responsibility. oh never bloody mind, I'm going inside, I'll be on the 20th floor if anyone asks' Armitage stormed off into the building, he entered the lobby and sought out an elevator. He irritably stabbed at the call button till it arrived. The canned music inside didn't do a lot for his mood, he shifted uneasily then reached inside his trench coat pocket and brought out his .455 Webley revolver, it felt good to have it on him again, two old friends reunited. The weapon was just under a century old, it was well looked after though, lovingly cared for, as reliable as ever. Armitage had never thought he would need to use it again, he'd listened to the news this morning and had decided it was time the old revolver came out of retirement. It was heavy and not as compact as a automatic but it had stopping power, six hollow points rested within its cylinder. He slid it back into his pocket. The elevator came to rest on the twentieth floor, Armitage stepped out and moved to where he saw a lone building security guard standing by a door. Armitage flashed his warrant card

'Anyone entered since the murder?'

'Yes sir, an officer Gardyner

Good, open it up

'But sir officer Gardyner said no one was to enter unless he said so'

Armitage snorted in disgust. 'Gardyner is a street cop, I'm an inspector, I outrank him, open the door sunshine'

'Yes sir, sorry sir' The guard pushed open the door.

Armitage studied the apartment, unmade bed, was he sleeping alone last night. Armitage went through the rooms, searching for any clues that were there. He carefully searched the bed covers, especially the pillows for any signs of hair, long hair, hair that didn't belong to the beds owner. He checked the remaining windows, toughened safety glass? how strong was our murderer A more thorough forensic search would have to wait

When finished he closed up the apartment

Armitage moved up the corridor to the next apartments door, he banged on it. 'Police, open up!' 'Then he remembered where he was. he added a please just to be nice.

"Perhaps we should get to our destination. There is little left that we can do here. I imagine investigators will be here to collect evidence. In the meantime, we should begin to unpack and get to the bottom of everything." James said as he looked around at the firefighters working in the tunnel. Bodies were being pulled out now, all of them charred corpses. The truck explosion had rocked the tunnel and, no doubt, structurally damaged it but that would be up to various structucal engineers to determine. For now, James and the Layartebians wished only to begin the investigation. They didn't know where they were going to be doing their work but they hoped they could access electronic information and databases within whatever library system Kylesburgh had. They needed to find out a history of the country and of its people. Whomever was doing this wasn't leaving a video tape saying who they were, which meant they were the real deal, not some phony "flavor of the week" terrorist group.

The room was empty, and silent. Room 146 was a conference room, but the lights were off and...

"Who are you looking for?" Someone asked from behind them. The owner of the booming voice was a guy in a suit, accompanied by two women. MacKechney barely recognized the faces.

"Er, good morning, we are looking for Secretary Kryszewski..."

"Room 154. Down the hallway. He's with President Knutsen."

"Thank you." When the group has left, MacKechney realized that the guy was actually Health Secretary Tyler LaManche, and that the two women were also cabinet secretaries... so there must have been a meeting somewhere...

Amra's senses were bellowing at him. There WAS something very wrong here. All the Kyleburgh higher-ups here in this building, and little, if any, security. That guy that the lieutenant just spoke to was some kind of functionary, but the two women with him were not who-or-what they appeared to be. Amra tapped his commpin. "Rema. Everyone... here to me....stat!"

He pulled his katana and his Glock. "Lieutenant, we're going to wait here for a few minutes while my Squids surround the building. Be advised that though we are here officially to aid you in your search for the terrorists, we are here as semi-autonomous commandos who will, at my discretion, pull out all the stops and go after these guys. Now.....I would highly suggest that you pull your weapon and walk very slowly down the hall in front of me towards wherever it is Kryzewski's office is." The lieutenent was sweating heavily. "Calm down, lieutenent. I'm not accusing you of anything......yet. I believe your'e just doing your job. But those two women with that other guy are as much secretaries as I am. They don't feel right....they don't fit."

Just then, in his earpiece, he heard Rema. "In position, Amra. Two on each floor, four surrounding the building. I've got your back."

"Acknowledged", Amra responded. "Proceed, lieutenant.................."

"You're not exactly the model police officer, aren't you?" The guy answered gruffly. "No, I didn't. I WAS ASLEEP. Now go away and I'm going back to bed."

"We most certainly will." The Doctor said as he walked out of the room. He and his party walked out of the building and towards their awaiting SUVS. "We need to go question Mrs. Driscoll. Let’s go."
They got into the car and Chadbourne drove out the Centre Avenue gate. Traffic was starting to slow down at Centre Avenue, and Chadbourne had to take a right turn at Holstein. "We'll be fixing that," he said optimistically. "'sides, we don't want to have this mess before the children arrive at the school." The man then saw one of his companions. "Jack! Get to the end of this line of cars and tell them to back up 'cause the road is closed!"

Marvin chuckled and took a bite out of his eggs. "What time is it anyway?" He questioned as he took a gulp of some orange juice.
Elaine looked at the wall clock. "6:35."

"Perhaps we should get to our destination. There is little left that we can do here. I imagine investigators will be here to collect evidence. In the meantime, we should begin to unpack and get to the bottom of everything."
"Where do you want to go? Which investigation?" McSlarrow was confused. He has been awake for twenty-four hours now, exposed to the stench of roasted flesh and the stink of cyanide gas. There were two, possibly three investigations ongoing, he doesn't know how to possibly divide himself to man them and what exactly should he do. He needed a hot bath, a cup of coffee, twenty hours of sleep, and a day off... though not necessarily in that order.

"I don't understand this," MacKechney said. "There are terrorists in the building? This is Kylesburgh House... and the two women are..." He stammered. He racked his brain to summon the name of those two women, who are now talking on their phones in the near-empty building lobby. He looked at their faces closer... he still can't remember as the dreaded mental block ensued. If he can only say their names, then Amra won't do anything, but MacKechney sensed that Amra had a short fuse...

Again, it took a few minutes for the door to open. As the door opened a bit, the smell of coffee and buttered toast wafted out into the corridor.

A rushing mother scooped out her little child from near the door. "Hunter, I told you not to open the door unless I said so, didn't I?" The boy looked a bit guilty. Her mother bent down and lifted him up. She then turned to Armitage.

"I'm sorry, but I was cooking in the kitchen. I reminded my kids not to open the door unless they know who was out there," she said, tipping her chin towards the door's peephole. "We don't know, Kylesburgh's getting a lot dangerous these days... and thank God it's a police officer at the door."

"Is there anything you need? Is there a problem?" She then smiled as she got an idea. "Officer, why don't you come in and have breakfast?"

He ruffled young Hunters hair as he entered 'You being a good lad for your mum?'

'My apologies for disturbing you this early, but I need to ask you and your husband a few questions'

'Theres been an incident with one of your neighbors, Mr Nygaard, did you hear anything strange this morning coming from his apartment.'
Armitage took the coffee with a nod of thanks, he sipped and smiled, 'good coffee'

"He was a nice guy. I talked to him probably about midnight, when he came home. I asked him about what had happened, and he reassured me alright. After we finished talking, he went to his room, he said he was sleepy. I returned here to tuck in Hunter - that boy was giving me a hard time last night. He slept about one o'clock, I think, and I was asleep immediately after. I didn't hear any visitors..."

Amra held a finger to his lips, indicating that the lieutenant was to be silent. He then pointed at him to keep against the wall, in the shadows.

Amra took a few steps towards the sound of the women on their phones, his movement eerily silent. He couldn't see him, but he knew one of the Squids was on the other side of the lobby, just about twice as close to the secretaries as Amra was.

He moved quickly. "OK, ladies, cell phones down, purses on the floor!" The two women looked at the armed commando bearing down on them with a pistol pointed at them in disbelief. "NOW goddamit! Don't make me say it again!" Just then, Nnam came around the corner with his rifle locked and loaded, ready to blow someone away.

The women, now terrified, dropped their possessions as they were commanded. "Now, turn around, face the wall, hands where I can see 'em. MOVE IT!"

The women complied, one starting to whimper. "Shut up or I'll give you a real reason to cry."

Amra signaled to Nnam to keep them covered. He'd heard a bunch of footsteps coming down a set of stairs somewhere to his right. He went to check it out...........

Erin MacKinnon began to cry. "Hush," Adrienne Balmer quieted her. "Just do what they say, okay?"

"Who are you?" LaManche demanded as he put himself between Amra and the women. Inside, he was starting to fear that these might be terrorists. He started to reach for his gun...

MacKechney saw all of this from the corner of his eye. He shoved to the back of his mind the thought process of retrieving the secretaries' names; all he thought of was the possibility of anything bad happening. Like LaManche, he was beginning to think that these guys might be the terrorists and that they were lying about their identities. He saw the security at the front door talking on the radio, calling for backup. He might not have time to call for one, he must act fast.

He took out his gun, pointed it at the Xeraphian nearest to the secretaries and rushed to the lobby. "Hey! Let them go!"

Amra signaled to Nnam to keep them covered. He'd heard a bunch of footsteps coming down a set of stairs somewhere to his right. He went to check it out...........
First Lady Rebecca Knutsen was going down the stairs with her six-year-old son Malcolm when they saw a gun and katana-wielding commando at the foot of the staircase. She quickly carried Malcolm and rushed up the stairs...

'Don't worry yourself, Did you see any other tenants wandering around?'

'Nah, not that I remember, say whats this all about, something to do with the attacks?'

'Good question kid, ok listen, if you and your pals remember anything get in touch with me, heres my card.'

'Sure dude'

Armitage left him to it, the teenagers had proberly been pissed or drugged up to the gills last night anyway. He made his way to the elevator and then proceeded to 16c, the lone tenant.
