The Asåvik Island RP
The Alfegos settlers flew in by helicopter. It was an amzing sight for anyone watching: 50 heavy helicopters, filled with men and supplies, which landed and set up an airstrip, premade.
This was followed by the begginings of setting up the many prefabbed buildings carried by the massive cargo planes landing behind them. For tonight, they would set up the structures as quickly as possible, and sleep in tents, while others worked to build the city preplanned back at home.
A message was broadcast from the antenna set up within 5 minutes of landing.
"We wish to notify all of the arrival of Alfegos, and will help if anyone wishes for it. We hope we will get on."

Prior Trent Newton was the first to step foot of the CH-47C Chinook on to Asåvik Island. He looked around at the clearing. "This will do," he shouted over the roar of the helicopters rotors. The engines died and the others began to disembark. Another of the huge CH-47C Chinooks landed nearby. Three more unloaded they're payload of supplies before all of the helicopters left. All that remained were 55 people, three 1980 black Toyota Landcruiser Hardtop 4x4's, 1500 copies of the Book of the Blessed, 30 tents, and assorted other supplies.
Prior Trent started organizing the camp almost immediately. "You two," he said point to two parsons, "take on of the 4x4's and deliver this official message to the leader at Ft. Tilton." Then he picked another two parsons and told them,"take one of the other 4x4s and see if you can find a suitable place for a deposit of limestone or granite." Then he called the rest of the group together, and after leading them in the daily prayer had them start setting up they're tents along the tree line at the far side of the clearing.
A Beatan settler walked up to the gate into the heavy walls of Ft. Tilton.
An Imperial soldier who was off-duty and was dressed to go jogging asked him, "You're from the monastary they're building up on the Cape, right?," not waiting for an answer he led the Beatan over to the sentries at the gate to the fort. "Charles, this here's one o' the missionaries from Beatus. Send 'im in to see the Commander, will ye?"
The sentry agreed. "Welcome to Asåvik. THe commander's office is right down the lane as you go through.", he said politely, opening the gate.

Parson Jones walked through the gates and down the lane to the commanders office and knocked on the door.
"Enter." murmered a voice from behind the door.
Behind a desk in the room was a bald man, obviously of Tëutev ancestry, in an olive-green officer's uniform. He stood.
"Salutations, sir. I am Commander Deren Blackforest, I am in charge of Fort Tilton here. What can I do for you?"

When the colonists of Skamania and Duloc arrived, they immediately began to construct the colony of New Bordeaux after giving notice to the island's authorities that they had arrived. As the settlers built the colony, they chose Raymond Beaumont as the colony's leader and he was sworn in by the people of New Bordeaux. Raymond spent the day waiting to see if the island authorities would come to see the colonists, who were busy working away to build their colony. Ships carrying food and medical (and other) supplies arrived later in the day.

Two large Stoklomolvi transport cruisers with the label of SCDC (Stoklomolvi Civilian Designated Cruiser) arrived at the proposed site for New Vladistov. Literally hundreds of civilians poured out of both ships when the ships stopped at the site and ran towards the area, which was close to the sea. Several dozen construction vehicles and material transportation vehicles also disembarked, as did two hundred SMPF (Stoklomolvi Military Police Force) officers. The civilians instantly got to work building up houses and digging up holes for the new structures, and soon afterwards the food stored in the ships were sent to the new colony as well. When most of the civilians were working, a large truck delivered several dozen crates of miscellaneous supplies, such as seeds for growing food, to the new colony.

"I am Parson Greg Jones, I am here to deliver an official message from Prior Newton," he says handing Commander Blackforest a scroll bearing the official seal of the Theocracy of the Beatus. It read:
To the leader of Fort Tilton,
If you receive this message, that means that we have safely arrived at our designated colony location. I am Prior Trent Newton, and I shall be in charge of the New Eilifur Monastery. We have a few items that we deemed would cost to much to bring with us, which we hope we can purchase form your nation. We would also like some information from your government. We request maps of our colony area, and also would like to know the location of any known limestone, or granite deposits near our colony that we may mine, for we need stone to build our monetary. If there is any paperwork that I must fill out personally, I apologize but I am need at the colony now so you must come to me. If you wish I can arrange to send a vehicle for you. The lsit of needed supplies is as follows:
Gasoline
Paper
Ink
Thank You
Sincerly,

The Katislov settlers flew in on 100 Katislov heavy transport jets. Lorries and Jeeps rolling out the back and parachuting down to the ground. Already people were digging, laying the foundations of what would be known as Katlis City. Food parcels were dropping now by the hundred and on the horizon a Katislov Frieght Ship belonging to the goverment owned Katislov Galactic Trade Federation was coming, bringing premade buildings and a runway. A port was being lasered out of rocks so that the ship could come closer. A man in military uniform stepped off a private helicopter, a retired general who had been chosen to rule the colony as a reward for his services to Katislov. General Lith. He walked forward and spoke to one of the men "Take one of the trucks and get to the Ft Tilton to tell them we've arrived."

Commander Blackforest read the letter from the Prior, and then took out a pices of carbon paper and began to write ideograms and logograms upon it.
"I am writing out a list to our quartermaster. We will compile gasoline and have it shipped to your monastary shortly. We have plaenty of ink, but as for paper, we only have Carbon paper." He held up the sheet of semi-translucent paper that he was writing on. "It works the same as traditional paper, but it is made from agricultural chaff rather than wood pulp. If you need traditional paper, we can have some imported for you. Now for maps..." he said as he pressed a silver device on the desk. It beeped and he spoke into it.
"Mallory, have Emblemant Yellowfield sent to my office please, with the maps of Area 42."
A minute later, a reasonably tall, very thin officer, in his early 20's, came into the room and saluted.
"Parson," Blackforest said, "THis is Emblemant Carsim Yellowfield. He's the chief cartographer for the island."
"Pleased to meet you sir," he stammered, shaking hands with the Parson, "I have, in this case, maps of your area, as well as geological maps shwoing twhere local stone deposits are."

The five, legendary colonizing ships, landed softly in the golden sands of the peninsula. Ceremonially, the first man off the flotilla was the selected Colonial Governor, holding the flag of Great Vantania on a flag pole with a spearhead on the bottom. He stepped off the flagship, planting the flag in the coast, the wind unfurling it and the sun illuminating it. Soon, this same flag would be taken off it's undersized flag pole and placed on a proper one in the center of the city.
The colonists came out next, hauling barrels of food and water, various construction supplies, personal possesions, and documents of building plans. The design was to mimick it's mother city, Minoa, with a small port town sending out goods from Colchis, the city on the hill. Colchis was to be wholly on the hill, a square wall surrounding the hill with four gateways, north, south, east and west. The southern gate would have a road and railway leading directly down to the port city, Seaside Town. The railway would divide the city into two, the east and west, the right-side and the wrong-side of the tracks, and both the road and the railway would be protected by walls.
The citizens began working on the two towns, laying down basic roads and the foundations for the walls. Tents were set up were eventually roads would be, and scouts went out into the wilds of the peninsula to search for supplies and materials. Smooth plains were found, ones that would be perfect for farms, a site that when testing had the correct kind of stones for sales and building the city proper, and a small wood that could be used for building materials also.
The Colonial Governor looked over the colonteers, the plans for both Seaside Town and Colchis in his hands, telling them where to build, what to do, and what land went to who. A scout soon came down from the highest point he could find, telling him of the two other settlements he had spotted to the north and south.
OOC: It's now an artist colony of 150. I hope that's ok...
Two transport ships neared the coast of the island. On board were 150 people, accompanied by a small military escort. These 150 people were mostly artists, with varying degrees of fame within the Mephrasian art scene. They had pooled their money, and had raised enough funds to emigrate to this new island. They had grown bored with the traditional Mephrasian landscapes. They wished for something...harsher, something that could affect them, and stimulate their creativity. 20 of the 150 were true settlement builders, hired to maintain the colony, and make sure no one died, although considering the relative aversion to any real work expressed by the artists, the job could be quite difficult.
The ships found a suitable place to begin unloading the supplies. The 20 workers began unloading various large crates, containing art supplies, pre-fabricated habitation units, foodstuffs, large amounts of hard liquor, and a few crates full of "controlled substances." The twenty workers groaned and strained as the 130 artists milled about on the site of the new colony. "Perfect, a bit cold, but otherwise perfect" exclaimed Anees Sartori, a leading Mephrasian photographer and video artist, and one of the driving forces behind Blue Cocoon. He pulled his coat tighter, and looked out over his new home. What to many might seem a frigid, desolate landscape, was for him and his group a fertile field of artistic creativity.

Kane Tal was worried. He had been ordered by the General or Hen Lith as some knew him to get to Fort Tiltion several hours ago and but had somehow managed to get lost on the island. Then he turned a corner and saw a signpost saying Fort Tiltion 500 metres. As Kane drove over the next hill he saw the fort, it's walls standing out against the countryside, a soldier at the gate was waving at him, he pulled over.
Off the coast of the island was a fleet of Greal transprts and destoryers, the trnsports dropped off supplies at the beach, then helicopters arrived with people inside, they waled out of the helicopter and saw the new island they were going to live on. By the end of the day, 4000 Greal settlers had entered the new Greal colony of Jull city.
Captain Justin was viewing the workmen offloading crates of food and other stuff needed for a colony. He had 100 Greal troops posted at the colony for now to put Law and order unto the colony. When a police system was orangized he and his men would most likely leave.
"Justin, its great to see you."said Corporal Kellerman.
"Well John, the new colony looks great."said Justin looking at the beach.
The new colonial governor was brought over by helicopter, his name was Tom Miller. He was a former general and he knew how to oragnize things.

"And thank you too, Commander Blackforest, and the carbon paper will be fine for now, no need to import paper for us, we are skilled at making our own, so we will only need the carbon paper till we have finished construction on our monastery, two months or so." He stood up and shook hands with the commander and emblemant Yellowfield, "We shall await your first delivery. May happiness and joy fallow you always," he said as he walked out of the room with the case of maps. He walked out of the fort, to his 4x4 and returned to the colony site.

The workers behind him had just finished with the construction of their first prefabricated structure, which was soon to be replaced by an apartment structure once the entire colony was up and running. Concrete walls were to be constructed around the colony to keep the settlers safe, but at the moment they were focusing on finishing up the basic aspects of the colony.

After a period of two days of almost constant work and with about eight hours of sleep per person, most of the structures were completed. There were around three to four hundred large prefabricated tent-like structures, and each of those structures could hold around sixteen people. On the side of each building was the Stoklomolvi flag, emblazoned in bright red on the orange structures. Soon after the final housing structure was complete, most of the farmers wandered off and began to plough the ground to ready it for sowing.
Meanwhile, some of the settlers more skilled in the field of construction began to dig up some of the near frozen ground nearby to prepare it for the first apartment structure, which was likely to be done within about a month or so. Others, who came for economic opportunity, set up their shops lined up along the main gravel path down the centre of the settlement. The massive transport cruisers had departed the day before and travelled to Port Stoklomolvi to retrieve more supplies from the motherland.

As the Kiravians continued to inspect the colony, being greeted by some citizens as they worked, they noticed Raymond Beaumont coming towards them. "Is everything finished?" Raymond asked them, wondering if they had completed their tasks. As they talked, the colony had already been built and most citizens either rested in their homes, interacted with each other or helped with the growing of the first harvests on the farms.
Petropavlovsk
Within a few weeks of the official formation of Petropavlovsk, the Vetalian ships set sail for Asåvik Island. The fleet that arrived was a small navy in and of itself, the huge container ships holding construction equipment, supplies, and the temporary construction and engineering crews in center and around them swarms of private vessels chartered to bring the settlers to the colony. Towards the rear of the group were the private ships of the wealthiest and most important citizens, mainly the officials and bureaucrats that would oversee the process.
The ships came to a stop, anchoring themselves in the ample bay, and within a short time the first landing parties began moving ashore. There was no ceremony, just a group of low-level overseers and workers preparing the landing zone to begin handling the tons of equipment and supplies. Within a few hours of landing, these initial settlers had set up a small group of primitive, yet functional tents and the first fires were kindled to warm the rudimentary campsite. Shortly thereafter, the generators were brought to shore and the camp was flooded with the harsh, artificial light of the halogen lamps that were strung haphazardly between the tents and on hastily constructed poles.
Once the area was lit, work resumed and continued throughout the night. The workers took shifts, with each crew returning to the ships to sleep while the other moved ashore with its first load of equipment. At the current rate, they would have all of the supplies ashore in a few days and work on a full-fledged base camp could begin.

All around the colony vast structures were going up and already over a 1000 more people had arrived, coming on the 2nd transport ship which was bringing raw materials like uranium for the power station and steel for the buildings that were needed by the colony. Hen Lith stood on the balcony of the palace which would host the Emporer if he ever decided to inspect the colony. Hen briefly worried over what had happened to the man he had sent off to the island authorities 2 days ago and hadn't heard from since but put the thought out of his mind. Soon the rest of the palace would be ready and he could move in to his private quarters which featured a private communiction link to the capital over 14,000 miles away. A ship flying the Katislov flag appeared on the horizon, the latest supplies from the Empire.
Petropavlovsk, Part II
Over the course of a week, the base camp was laid out in a neat grid pattern, consisting of row after row of insulated tents, along with critical structures built of prefabricated steel huts. A few hundred yards from the camp was the actual city site itself, currently little more than a muddy plot filled with workers, foremen, and many wooden and metal stakes marking out various infrastructure and construction projects. The shoreline itself was the main site of construction, with crews working nonstop to prepare a functioning port for the city to speed up the delivery of supplies, equipment, and additional crews. The din of construction was audible 18 hours per day, with work only stopping from midnight to 6 a.m. Already, the camp had developed many of the features of a functioning town, with the enterprising settlers creating their own market, several bars, a temporary school, and, most importantly, a branch of the Bank of Vetalia.
At the edge of the city construction site, a large temporary pavilion was being constructed, which would serve as the viewing stand for civilians interested in watching construction. This facility soon expanded as the wealthiest and most important citizens constructed their temporary structures around it, turning it in to a de facto governmental headquarters seemingly overnight. Compared to the simpler residences of the rest of the civilians, it was palatial, with hot and cold running water 24/7, nonstop electricity, lavishly appointed offices and dining rooms, and even a spa donated by a particularly wealthy settler.
During the next few days, the remaining supplies, equipment, and electrical generators were brought ashore, and many of the private vessels departed around this time, relaying orders back to Vetalia to bring additional supplies and equipment.

The Colonial Governor, easily distinguished by his clothing, moved towards the man, "Hello, my name is Phil Istine," he said, handing a pre-arranged box to the representative, "and I am the governor of the Colony of Colchis. I think you will find all you need in there, a copy of the national factbook and a factsheet on Colchis. Now, is there anything else we should discuss? Trade, regulations, and the like. Our Empress is also interested in the possibility of conquest of other colonies. So we know whether we should build defenses or not.
***
Meanwhile, progress was visible. Smooth rocks had been collected to create a basic road system from Colchis to Seaside Town, and the tents had all been set up in the proper fashion of blocks across the road network. Driftwood was being gathered and shaped to build a few weak docks for ships to use until a better alternative could be made. As of now they served a few inflatibles and rafts that would be used for fishing.
Meanwhile, on the plain rough shacks were constructed, and seeds were being planted in the fertile soil for an eventual harvest. In other spots on the plain, cows and other such animals were brought out to graze to support the colony until the harvests would come in. The woods that ended the plain were looked at hungrily by the colonteers for hunting and supplies.
Lastly, on the hill between Seaside Town and the plain the rugid walls of the city of Colchis had been established, and was in much the same state as Seaside Town below. Three things one would find in every Vantanian city had already been set up. First, the flag pole waving the founding flag in the center of the city where the courtyard of the capital building would eventually be. Second and third, two prefabricated buildings were set up, a Temple to Jupiter, and an Anglician church. Outside of the city proper, militia men patrolled faithfully the walls and the stone road to Seaside Town.

When the colony had been established, the citizens had a party to celebrate with all sorts of dancing, games and food, they enjoyed themselves that night. In the next couple of days or so, a school was built that could house the children of the colony while a bank was built to handle financial affairs. A television station was later built so the colonists could see television programs from the homeland; a radio station that aired radio programs was also built. Some people spent time seeing if they could pick up Kiravian television and radio. More settlers came during the coming days and Raymond Beaumont welcomed them all into the colony, as did all the colonists who had already been there.
Raymond lived with his family in the Governor’s House, a lavish building built with all the amenities included; it was not too far from the more basic residences of the citizens, most of whom were at least moderately wealthy. A marketplace soon began to function, with people going to sell wares and purchase food from the nearby farms. It was not long before the colony was bustling and prosperous. Perhaps, one day, New Bordeaux's citizens would meet the citizens of other colonies, but for now they were fine with simply making the best of what their thriving colony had.

By the time Parson Jones returned it was nightfall, and the colonist had set up all the tents and had unpacked most of the supplies. He jumped out of the 4x4, case in hand, and ran toward the largest tent, knowing it belonged to Prior Newton. When he arrived at the tent, he stopped and said a prayer for Prior Newton, and his tent, before entering.
"Ah, Parson Jones, you have returned from Ft. Tiltion. Do you bring good news, my son?" asked the Prior.
"I do, sir," the parson said holding up the case. "These are the maps you requested sir. They will send the rest of the supplies shortly."
"Good job," said the Prior as he took the case from the parson. He opened the case and laid a geological map on a nearby table. "So we are right about here, right?" the Prior asked the Parson.
"Yes, sir."
"This limestone deposit should do then, its large enough and close enough to make it a logical choice. I want you to put together a team, scout the location and begin extracting rock first thing tomorrow morning. For now good night."
"Good night, sir," said the parson as he left the tent.
Petropavlovsk, Part III
"I, Alexei Kutuzov, formally accept the position of Viceroy of Petropavlovsk in the service of his majesty, Emperor Valerian Kosyachenko. I humbly swear to God and the people of Vetalia that I will use my position and authority to build this territory in to a prosperous bastion of our great state and will follow and uphold the law to its fullest extent."
"By the power vested in me by the Emperor and Senate of Vetalia, I hereby declare Alexei Kutuzov the new Viceroy of Petropavlovsk. May his reign bring a new era of prosperity and growth for this young territory."
The small crowd, consisting entirely of the officials of government and the few wealthy who could afford to do nothing, applauded quietly as he accepted the position. It was an interesting scene, the small group standing before a plain that was literally buzzing with activity. Inside, a group of servants and aides worked to lay out the reception dinner, preparing fine foods from each of the countries settling in the area.
In the distance, the first supply fleet to arrive at the colony after the initial landing was anchored, a constant stream of ships and equipment moving from the craft to the muddy base camp. They entered the basic harbor, consisting of little more than a dredged strip and lighted buoys, unloading equipment among the skeletal framework that would one day form the first sea wall along the shore. At the city construction site, machines were moving earth and digging out the tunnels which would eventually be home to the city's power, water, communications and heating infrastructure, and several kilometers away a deep hole marked the site of the city's future water treatment and pumping station.
A helicopter flew overhead, one of the major vehicles brought to the colony with the first supply shipment. Judging from the markings on the helicopter, it was currently carrying a crew of geologists, engineers and prospectors. They weren't looking for gold or oil but for geothermal rock, and preliminary estimates were encouraging. There was likely at least 20 megawatts of immediately tappable geothermal power in the area, more than enough to meet the needs of the young colony and to accommodate for significant additional growth. That would reduce the need for costly generators, which also had the negative side effect of creating pollution, both from their fuel and the exhaust released when they operated.
Alexei surveyed the area, watching it slowly evolve from a muddy tent city in to a prosperous, if cold, bastion of Vetalian civilization. An aide approached him, bringing a hot buttered tea. The bitter drink was bracing to the unaccustomed, but it was relief to the Vetalians, who were hardly known for their ability to adapt to the cold. Wrapped tightly in a fur-lined parka, he stood there, saying nothing, just indulging in the moment itself.
"Well the population is only 4000, we might bring in more settlers." said the Governor."what kind of data?"
"Various things, mostly geography, building materials, photographs, street layouts, official documents and the like."
"Various things, mostly geography, building materials, photographs, street layouts, official documents and the like."
"well, we haven't exactly completed anything yet, come back tomorrow, you might be able to see the new completed streets and buildings."
Well, sir, this is still a Kiravian colony overall, even though your towns are under Vantanian control at the municipal levell. Thus, we're not to allow our foriegn guests to go about conquering each other, that would be senseless bloodshed. However, pretty much all Kiravian settlements, even small hamlets, have walls fo some sort, to protect from raiders and the like, so we do recommend that you build defences.
"well, we haven't exactly completed anything yet, come back tomorrow, you might be able to see the new completed streets and buildings."

Three weeks later...
Prior Trent Newton walked out of his tent and looked at the half finished walls of the monastery. It had been a hard three weeks, especially with the lack of good paper, a problem that would soon be over, now that the rooms designated for paper making were finished. He walked over to one of the finished buildings, the main offices, and said, "Morning Joe," to the monk guarding the door.
"Morning, sir," Joe replied. "Parson Jones has an update on the quarry, he's waiting in your office."
"Thank you Joe," said the Prior as he entered the building. He grabbed a cup of coffee, and then headed up to his office. "How go things down at the quarry, Parson Jones?" asked the Prior when he walked in.
"Things are going well, sir," said Parson Jones. "Far better than we expected, at this rate we should be finished building in a week."
This news pleased the Prior and he showed it. "Thats good to hear," said the Prior. "Jones, I have an important job for you, okay. I need you to go down to New Vladistov with the 4x4. I want you to deliver this message to the leader there, do you understand that?" he asked the Parson, as he handed him a sealed scroll.
"Yes, sir," said the Parson.
"Good, you shall leave immediately. I expect you back in at least a week. Well, what are you waiting for? Go, go."
Petropavlovsk, Part IV
Progress continued apace, with the city slowly rising out of the muddy permafrost of late winter. The first permanent structures had been completed at the end of the month, a series of plain government buildings that were currently used as warehouses but would soon form the administrative offices of the city's port. The port itself was now functional, a small but serviceable facility capable of refueling or resupplying limited numbers of trade ships that passed through the area. It generate a small amount of revenue for the city, hardly enough to support it permanently, but still appreciated. The rest of the city was advancing quickly, the muddy streets now replaced with steel plates, below which workers were constantly busy laying cables and fitting concrete pipes. Various other buildings were at different stages of their construction, with most likely to be complete by year's end. The weather was good, and supply ships were arriving frequently, which bolstered supplies of building materials and allowed construction to proceed without significant delay. The goal was to have as many buildings as possible ready by winter, a goal which was likely to be met and exceeded if current rates held up.
The Viceroy himself spent most of his time planning out his own residence, a sizable mansion that would rise at the center of the city and serve as a combination office and home for himself and his family. Currently, his wife and children were still living in Vetalia, visiting occasionally but remaining there until their new home was complete.
More good news had arrived in recent weeks, including the discovery of additional geothermal deposits and several moderate oil fields in the area north of the city. These two resources were attracting the attention of Vetalian manufacturers, who saw the distant isle as a good location for siting factories to produce goods for the local market as well as the Kiravian mainland. The Vetalian military was also discussing the placement of a new receiving dish for observation satellites, which would boost the quality of satellite images from the region.
In the distance, a large grove of saplings was visible, the first plot of land that would eventually be used to supply the colony with wood and paper products. The colony also produced seafood in growing quantities, although Viceroy Kutuzov worked hard to keep the fishing at sustainable levels to prevent overfishing and the destruction of habitats. However, prices for these products were high and it was difficult to keep it under control when such great profits were to be had, especially for export to Vetalia.

New Vladistov
At this point, most of the manpower was focused on the apartments, and as such most were half-way complete. Down below, the shop-keepers had received their supplies from their suppliers in the motherland. Many civilians bought their goods there, and, using their stoklomovs, also paid for the supplies shipped to them almost every two days in smaller container ships. The main road, which used to be a gravel path, was paved by black asphalt imported from the mainland. Most of the prefab structures were removed to allow room for the new structures, and two were already constructed. Around one hundred cars were shipped to the island, and a large concrete wall was beginning construction.
Down at the shore, a concrete pier was being constructed to allow for easier transportation of goods and materials. A massive crane was being constructed using steel imported from the motherland, and already the main road had stretched to the piers.
Meanwhile, while the construction was taking place, a messenger from New Eilífur arrived. Mayor Leonardo Nimroy, dressed in a cream-coloured suit and sitting at his desk, answered.
"A message, I see? Hmm, what does it say..."
[OOC: Can we be given a relative location of this in the real world map, or is it completely fictional? I want to include this in my factbook.]
Jull
The city still was under construction, but the workers managed to lay out a road connecting maybe other cities also. The governor sat in his half finished office. Greal troops still were gaurding the outside of the colony.

General Notice to Foreign Settlers
We have noticed that many colonies have begun timber, pulp, fishing, and other such industries to sustain themselves.
It is acknowledged that such activities are neccesary to your economies. However, we are a very environmentally conscious Empire, and strict laws apply to such things. For example, most of the forest land on the island is protected, and certain species of tree are protected from logging, and certain methods of reforestation must be used on exhausted timberlands.
We thank the Vetalians for their use of arbouriculture and fishing restrictions.

Parson Jones handed Mayor Nimroy the sealed scroll. It read:
To the leader of New Vladistov
Hello, I am Prior Trent Newton, leader of the New Eilífur colony. I have sent this message to first wish our friends the Stoklomolvi people of New Vladistov well. Also to see if you needed anything from us, we will soon have paper, real paper, not that carbon paper junk the natives use, we will also begin producing our own wine. Thirdly we have a need for a way to relay messages to our nation, until we can get our satellite uplink (which is coming by boat because the government thinks it too expensive to fly in) arrives, so we were wondering if you could forward messages to our embassy in you capital. My messenger should have a shortwave radio in his vehicle so you can contact our monestary directly. If you ever need anything, don't hesitate to call, we have someone monitoring the shortwave at all times.
Your friend,
Prior Trent Newton,

Prior Newton pushed the shovel into the ground and removed a clump of dirt. He pulled a pouch of seeds from his robe. "Með planta af tré ÉG vígja jörð," he said as he dropped a few of the seeds into the hole and recovered it with dirt. After the tree planting ceremony he walked over to the gate waved at two monks, giving them the single to chop down the tree they stood by. Then he walked up to the observation platform that was level with the top of the monastery's outer wall. He looked out over the field that was being planted with grapes. His heart was heavy. He missed his home, but then he remembered he was in a hole new place where he could teach people how to follow the path, and that was more important than anything he could have done back home.

New Bordeaux:
Alfred was a farmer on one of the several farms that surrounded New Bordeaux. As he tilled the land, he placed some seeds in the holes he made in the dirt, hoping to grow some vegetables for his family to eat when it was time to reap the harvests. He made a lucrative business of selling his produce, but made sure he kept enough for the family. "Espoir de I j'ai une bonne moisson." Alfred uttered to himself as he went to inspect his crop of wheat which was blossoming quite well. While he inspected the wheat, he looked to see his wife, Hortense, who was busy gathering some food to bring inside to the house. "Need help?" Alfred asked with a smile. "I've got it all under control." Hortense calmly replied as she went inside the house with the food she carried.
"Hortense est un ouvrier dur et une bonne épouse." Alfred said as he stood over his crops and thought to himself, hoping that on the coming harvest he would have reap a great amount of vegetables, wheat and fruits so he could sell some at the market.
Petropavlovsk, Part V
The turbines whirred to life, in turn causing the rest of the equipment in the plant to begin operating. The computer consoles charted power output, while technicians monitored the supply and demand for power and watched the rudimentary grid slowly come online. Out in the distance, the handful of buildings that compromised Petropavlovsk lit up, celebrating the arrival of centrally generated power to the growing city.
Power output would be limited at first, no more than 4 hours per day of current, but would be scaled up rapidly to 6 hours in two weeks, 8 hours at the end of the month, and generally around 24 hours within a full month. After that, there would no longer be any problems with electricity supply and a surplus would be available for storage, sale to other colonies, or sale to trade ships that used electric batteries for backup power. The primary barrier was not the supply of power, indeed the geothermal resources were abundant enough to meet a demand level many, many times its current level, but the transmission lines; since the city was in a colder climate, the decision was made to use underground transmission lines to reduce the risk of sinking or tilting due to melted permafrost. The main downside was that construction took a good deal longer than suspended lines, which delayed the rate at which power could be transmitted. This would finally allow them to get rid of diesel generators and other sources of power, replacing it with clean geothermal energy.
However, progress was progress, and it was more apparent with each passing day. The city itself was now functioning, with about a quarter of the population now living in permanent structures. The Viceroy's residence was around half completed, with its lavish stonework rising from the ground and providing a beautiful centerpiece for the growing town around it. The port was being expanded and developed, and the framework of a lighthouse was visible in the distance. The streets were still under construction, but it was likely all completed buildings would have functioning water, gas, and electric by month's end. Telephone and internet access were still limited to centrally provided satellite linkups, but they would become more prevalent as the necessary infrastructure was installed.
The Viceroy's ambitious plans were coming along nicely, with several deals inked with major manufacturers to site their factories in the area. Roads and rails were laid, with heavy emphasis on mass transit as opposed to cars; the high price of electricity made the operation of standard Vetalian electric cars difficult, with the bulk of alternative fuels being used in construction vehicles and generators. Since this was a fragile environment, the goal was to balance growth and environmental management from the beginning, to contain the problems of sprawl that would likely emerge when the city was opened to unrestricted migration over the next few years. In a decade, it was expected to grow from 1,500 to over 20,000 residents, explosive growth for such a community, but growth that would be carefully managed to ensure it produced a net benefit, not a net negative, to the area.
However, for now, the city was still mostly a gigantic construction site, one that was rapidly approaching completion but which still had a good distance to go before it was fully functional. Already the city was being used as an example of urban planning, one that would inspire similar efforts across the Vetalian domain in the future, and the Viceroy was receiving accolades and praise that would only be magnified by his upcoming tour of Vetalia and keynote speech at the Chamber of Commerce's annual Sustainable Development Panel.

New Vladistov
The new colonial government of New Vladistov, led by Mayor Leonardo Nimroy, declared that it will adhere to the environmental polices of the island. Per request, the farmers slowed their encroachment of woodland greatly, and began to build their farms more towards the city. The port by this point was completed, as was the concrete wall. Several new apartments were constructed, and enough cars were shipped so that every family had one car. However, all cars were designed with fuel-efficiency in mind, and as such do not pollute as much as larger cars like SUVs. The first factory had been produced, and this factory produced canned goods, such as canned pineapples and the like. It had filters in the three smokestacks to prevent anything other than carbon dioxide and water from being released into the air, and these two chemical compounds are vital for photosynthesis in plants. As such, gardens have been planted all around the factory complex. For power, six massive wind turbines were constructed. These would be replaced by a fusion generator when more materials arrived.
Meanwhile, Mayor Nimroy received the message from New Eilifur.
To Prior Trent Newton, New Eilífur Monastery, New Eilífur Colony
Greetings, Mr. Newton! I agree to your proposal of relaying messages between your nation and you. We at New Vladistov have two satellite uplinks, and we will dedicate one of them two you. Once the main communications satellite has been shipped to us by ship, we will give you one of these satellites if you wish. We will also send you canned food goods in exchange for paper until we receive the paper shipments from the mainland, upon which we will give you canned goods in exchange for good relations.
Best of luck,

Initially, 4 Osprey planes whirled in, the trees and ground and sea twisting and warping in the wind from the blades. About 20 people in total disgorged from the Osprey planes, and they all wore camouflage military uniforms and carried MP5’s. On their sleeve was the logo of the Daufuskie Army Corps of Engineers. They quickly set about putting up a Daufuskien flag at the spot that was to become the city of Transoceanicia. Next they attended to surveying the land and prospecting the site for building on, and sketched the possible layout of the settlement. Several of them pulled out satellite phones and made requests for prefabricated facilities to be delivered to the site. The group made camp in tents that night. The next morning a small ship arrived and unloaded several smaller ships that brought in the prefabricated facilities. The Army Corps of Engineers put a priority on setting up port facilities, a ship with almost 3,000 people on board would arrive in 4 days and it needed some where to port.
After working a 20 hour day the Army Engineers and the 75 workers that had come on the ship had set up a decent dock for the ship to land at. It might work for the first ship, but it was a far cry from what Transoceanicia would need to become the major port city the Duke had called for.
The next day was devoted to setting up an air port and breaking ground for a power facility. The runway was made of prefabricated metal plates that snapped together nicely and the runway was ready for a C-5 by 3:00 pm. Several pieces of heavy equipment that had been off loaded from the boat began to break ground for the power station. At the same time trench digging machines began digging for the underground wires into the main part of the town. The town was already planed out, so everything could be done knowing where all the structures would be. The dock got its first use when a coal ship arrived to drop off the first 2 weeks supply of coal for the colony. The Duke did not trust radioactive materials being transported so far, so he had resorted to a coal fired plant, but he had made sure that the plant had a rigorous filtration system to keep it burning cleanly as possible. The Engineers had called for more workers to be delivered via plane. Indeed, late that evening a 727 landed and dropped off several more prefabricated structures and 100 more workers.
The next day was devoted to getting the land ready for 3000 additional people. Tents would be the basic sleeping arrangement for the next few days, but things would get better. The ship bringing the 3000 people was also bringing 2500 various prefabricated structures as well as plenty of basic building materials.

(If anyone would like to trade with New Bordeaux, come right in and offer your goods. Feel free to interact with my colony's citizens. Also, nice posts from the other participants.)
Yolande looked at the sun hanging over her for a brief moment. A single woman who had very good looks, her farm was the first sign of life anyone would see if they entered New Bordeaux, and if you were a bachelor or bandit, you'd find Yolande to a be a tempting woman. She had no children, no husband and simply hoped to build a good life for herself here in New Bordeaux. Who knows, maybe she would marry a colonist of New Bordeaux...or even a foreigner from one of the other colonies? It was something to think about, she said to herself, as she gathered some wheat that she would make into bread. Sometimes she would look at the nearby road that went past her house, she'd think about seeing foreign trucks speeding past with goods ready to trade to the colonists or new colonists coming to make their living. Whoever came past, Yolande just hoped they were friendly. She took her lawn chair that she had left in the storage and took her seat, with a glass of lemonade in hand, and basically just relaxed in the great outdoors.

After another few weeks, the canning factory was officially up and running and production was at its highest. The wind turbines were decommissioned at the same time that the new fusion reactor started up, and the wind turbines were shipped back to the mainland. The port facilities were complete, and many small ships arrived from the mainland, transporting new settlers. Almost all of the prefabbed shelters were decommissioned and recycled, an there were numerous apartments. Several concrete watchtowers were constructed at regular intervals on the concrete walls, and two shore batteries were built at the shore to keep marauding pirates and evils away.
An effective road system was completed throughout New Vladistov, and the road soon extended to nearby Petropavlovsk. Back at the town, however, the canning industry was beginning to falter as the goods had no where to export; they just sat in the industrial storage facilities, as not enough ships arrived to bring the finished goods away; more than enough ships arrived with raw materials, such as pineapples, oranges, and other citrus fruits.

"It has been a month since we arrived in this glorious new place, and we are nearly at full operational status. The schoolhouse is nearing completion. As is the chapel. The office building, dormitories, paperworks, metallurgists workshop, blacksmiths workshop, winery, storerooms, record rooms, and library are finished, as is the monestary walls. The vineyard has been planted and fenced off, the new trees have been planted to make up for the ones we have, and will continue to cut down. We will have to stick with candle lights till our diesel generators arrive. The windmill is complete and when we find a nearby neighbor who can supply us with wheat will will have bread. Cows will also be arriving on the next ship. Today I am sending the parsons out to begin spreading the word of the Path of the Blessed," said the Prior to the rest of the missionaries standing in the monastery courtyard. Then the bell in the bell tower behind him started to ring. "Oh, did I forget to mention the bell has been installed. Now all of you back to work, and the Parsons, go forth to the other colonies spreading the word of our lord, and offering anyone who desires free education to seek out our monestary, also see if you can find some trading partners. OOC: I'll probably start trading when the city is complete.
Petropavlovsk, Part VI
The Christmas season had started early in Petropavlovsk, an intentional move meant to celebrate the arrival of nonstop power supplies a few weeks before. The first celebration was the lighting of the streetlights, which lit much of the city in their pleasant glow. Currently, they were simple, utilitarian poles, but they would soon be replaced with much nicer wrought iron poles over the next few months. Around 75% of the streets and infrastructure were operational by now, and the entire population was now living in permanent homes and apartment buildings. Between buildings were strung arches of cheery, colorful Christmas lights, and the skeletal structures of the Norway maple saplings were strung with white lights.
In the center of the city, in a muddy field which would soon be developed in to a park, plans were underway for the Winter Festival, a tradition which stemmed from the distant past and celebrated the various religious traditions of the Vetalian people during the winter season. It would offer a wide variety of games, music, foods, and other entertainments to celebrate the first Christmas in the colony.
The Viceroy himself was throwing a lavish housewarming party, to be attended by the wealthy citizens of the colony and various visitors from Vetalia proper and surrounding areas. For weeks, workers had been carrying vast quantities of furnishings, supplies, and other goods in to the completed house, outfitting it in a luxurious style akin to that found in Vetalia. The Viceroy was away on at the time, spending several months with his family preparing for the move and speaking about his experiences in managing the colony.
Out in the distance, the skeletal framework of factories and the new refinery being built to process the small oil deposits for export were visible, with the sapling forest beyond them growing exponentially with each new development. In the middle of that forest was the satellite relay station and observatory for the Vetalian armed forces and VASA, who performed joint research at the site and found its lightless, clear skies to be perfect for observation. The goal of the greenbelt was first and foremost to offset as much of the environmental impact of the new colony by creating a greenbelt of forest and wildland at the edges of the territory which would be immune to development. It would be parkland, open to campers and hikers, but would be otherwise unspoiled. The lighthouse in the distance was now operational, a lifesaver during the winter and spring when visibility was impaired and the rocky shores of the bay posed a danger to the growing ship traffic entering and exiting the bay every week. They sold goods to the stores and businesses, purchased electricity and fuel oil, and then set sail again for ports further north. Eventually, they would be buying cargoes of goods produced on the island for export overseas, but for now the island was mainly a supply stop and a place to spend time on leave. Overall, things were going well, however, and approval ratings and morale were very high. The economy was growing strongly, supplies were abundant, tax revenue was rising, and the city looked to be fully profitable and self-supporting within the next five years.
During December and January, the city would be abuzz with additional construction, as companies set to work building new houses and stores in anticipation of the next shipment of migrants to the colony in March. For a while, it would be restricted to keep growth manageable, but the cap would be lifted over the next few years to allow completely unrestricted migration. In the distance, the road and rail networks were snaking outward from the city, currently little more than muddy, uneven trails traversed only by the adventurous or the heavy off-road vehicles used by construction crews, but would eventually be a concrete highway and rail corridor linking the city to the other colonies on the island. Ambitious plans, including a small airport, additional seaports, and new power and water stations were planned for the coming years to handle the tourist and permanent populations that would begin arriving in droves as the city was opened up and normalized with the rest of Vetalia.

The following weeks saw real progress, the Democratic Empire deeming it necessary to bring in labor to help unemployment levels drop and catch up with other more advanced cities. The two cities, Seaside Town and Colchis, were soon completed, the rough stone walls and walls replaced with proper concrete ones. The colonial militia had been selected, men living in the guard rooms, patrolling the walls and guarding the gates. The marble capital building was set up, and stereotypical colonial houses set up along the grids. Already Colchis and Seaside Town were graced by more then just living quarters and and workplaces, as banks, parks, schools, temples, churches, a movie theater, and an arena were set up. Of the five thousand that had been brought in to finish the places, one thousand remained.
A new town, a small farming community called Agria, had been established on Colchis Plain, a small rural affair with a simple temple to Ceres, a small church, and a few cottage homes to live in surrounded by vast farmland. The grazing animals ate from the wild hills, while farmers prepared the crops for the eventual harvest. Fishing boats sailed around gathering fish in moderation to feed the community along with the wild plants and hunted animals. Two factories, one for naking paper and the other for making shoes, had been built on the road to Agria from Colchis.
Colonial Governor Phil Istine looked at the colonial plans closely. They called for the construction of two more cities, Stonewell and Bayside Town. Already the surplus of people in Agria and Seaside Town were grumbling at the tight conditions, and wanting the construction of a new city, which was supposed to be Stonewell, the quarry and factory city. Yet he had been warned by the crafter of the colonial plans to take the construction of cities slowly so that the colony did not over extend itself and used it's materials efficiently. Yes he thought, it was, and had always been, the Vantanian way to have only a certain amount of people to a city, town, province, or colony, so that the best balance could be achieved. Indeed, it was that reason that the Democratic Empire had established Colchis, to take people from an overpopulated city, as well as providing extra revenue.

Aaron Park walked out of his tent, it wasn't one of those blue plastic one that you would go camping for the weekend in, this was a beige canvas tent supported by five wooden poles. It wasn't really designed for comfort, it was designed only to be extreamly cheap and to be able to last for a very long time. For Rutherford city, the homes would be completed in around three weeks time, seven weeks tops. The idea was that the city would have a mixture of single family units, such as houses, an several multi family units, for the time being it will be around eighteen apartment buildings.
Outside were seveal hundred tents in the same design as Mr. Park's, which were suprisingly placed in neat rows and columns. Suprisingly because Park thought that people would no put any emphasis on planning and organization.
Mr. Park took several steps while he saw the sun rise spreading beautiful hues of pink, orange, yellow, and violet aross the Asåvik island's sky. He took this moment of peace to say a small prayer to Ganada, the goddess of the Sun, and picked up his satellite phone,
"Yes, Asåvik governor please, yes, tell him I will meet with him in two hours. Thank you, bye."
Park walked over to a brown full cab Toyota Tundra truck sitting in idle, it was one of the few automobiles brought due to the uncertain amount of infrastructure on the island. He sat in the bach seat behind the driver and said,
"Lets roll."
Blue Cocoon
The days continued to pass, and a fuller village was beginning to take shape. The habitation units were beginning to be fully constructed, and work had begun on the new greenhouses that would supplement the somewhat middling food supply. A new shipment from Mephras was due in a week, bringing supplies to replenish the dwindling stocks.
The artists had adapted somewhat to the new climate, some more than others. Alcohol consumption seemed to be reaching new highs among the community, and some feared they would never adapt. Nevertheless, Anees Sartori had already finished a series of canvasses, entitled Snowstorm Interrupted consisting of splotches of black paint on otherwise white canvasses. They had received widespread praise in the community. Various other peoples explored the surrounding landscape, taking photographs, videos, making sculpture, and sketching. Creative thought was thriving, if the colony somewhat sputtered along.
Meanwhile, the colony planners had there hands full. While some of the artists had finally been convinced to assume some duties around the village, still the majority of maintenance and construction fell on their shoulders. Futhermore, one of the bolder colonists had recently been attacked by the local wildlife, and tested the rather lacking medical facilities. Three broken ribs, nothing too serious, but it reminded the group of the threats surrounding them.

After the 3000 citizens arrived, the site began to look very much like a full functioning town. Within 3 days everyone was out of tents and into temporary lodging in prefabricated facility. A Catholic church was being erected in the eastern side of the town. Ground had been broken for Main Street shops and several fishing boats had begun fishing and came in with great catches. Always attentive to the environment, the Duke sent out a decree that the fishing in the colony is to be tightly regulated.
Work began on new homes for the colonists. Mostly made of cut logs from local forests, hoping that these were not protected under Kiravian Law, after the first week fifty log cabins had been constructed, and the rate was continuing to increase. The Duke again stepped in and set out a careful logging map of the area. Also by the end of the first week, the people had elected George Kaiser governor of the colony. Tranoceanicia had been founded to be more democratic than its parent nation. The Daufuskien flag now flew on a very tall flag pole in the center of town. A prefabricated facility stood as a de facto town hall.
The next week started a search for some decent recourse to sustain the colony’s economy. People looked for oil in the ocean and prospected for some kind of mineral on the land. Fishing seemed already important, as would logging after the construction of the main structure of the colony was complete. There was high hope for some kind of mining to take place as well. Finally, several colonists had set up farms outside of town. The port facilities had doubled, and doubled again and the port was looking quite up to par for its job.
There were several wind generators to be delivered within the coming weeks as well. The Duke had decided that this colony would be rather ‘green.’

A small group of colonists were in the village center preparing a second take of a video project, and were interrupted as a man emerged and asked to speak to the leader of the colony. Bjorn Kelly, a medium sized man wearing thick rimmed glasses, and the director of the video, spoke up. "Well, technically our colony rejects any form of institutionalized hierarchy, but Anees Sartori could be considered the brains behind our little experiment. You should be able to find him in the community hall just 100 feet that way." Bjorn pointed towards a small simple building, dusted with snow.

More and more colonists entered New Bordeaux and the surrounding area in order to settle it and make a living for themselves, they were all welcomed by the residents of New Bordeaux, a city that had recently opened itself up to trade with foreign colonies such as New Vladistov. Raymond Beaumont was hopeful that trade could be established with other colonies, it could help with generating more revenue he thought to himself as he looked over reports about the colony while sitting at his desk in the "Governor's House", the mansion in which he lived. As he worked, so did the many inhabitants of New Bordeaux and the farms surrounding it.

New Bordeaux
Parson Smith walked into the town in his once white now dusty and dirty robes. He walked to the center of town and said in a loud clear voice, "Now good people of New Bordeaux, gather round and I will tell you a tale so unbelievable you wound believe it happened, but it did. It is my tale, which is fitting for who better to tell it than me myself right. So here it goes. It all started many, many years ago, when I was, well I'm a little ashamed to admit it but, it was back when I was hooked on drugs, thats right, I was on drugs, but now back to my story, back when I was hooked on drugs and didn't care what happed as long as I got my next fix. So I was on the streets looking for some one to buy drugs off of, when I saw a guy selling drugs on down an alley. Now I wasn't in a good place then, as I know now I was very, very sick, so I was walking down that alley towards the guy selling drugs. Then the guy selling drugs pulled out a gun and shot the other guy, right between the eyes, and what do I do, try to run, try to hide, no I keep walking toward him, still hoping to buy some drugs, I know I was acting like an idiot, so anyway, I was walking toward him after he shot that guy, and the drug dealer turned toward me and he shot me, he shot me twice," the parson said, as he pulled back his hood, "right in the head," he pointed at the scars. "The doctors said it was amazing that I was still alive, they couldn't explain it. They said it wasn't anything they did either, they said I was like magic, the fact that I was still alive. They just couldn't explain it to me. Then the man who brought me into the hospital, the one who the doctors say saved me from bleeding to death in an alley somewhere, walked into my hospital room. His name, his name was parson Dave, and he told me about how the Great Bob had saved me, about how the Great Bob watches over all of us, and that if our heart is pure, I mean truly pure, that he'll look after you, help you when you truly need, and when you die he will watch over your corpse, held help your soul be at peace. That is why I have devoted my life to him. If you let him he will look after you too, and your children. I have traveled all the way from my monestary in New Eilífur, north of Ft. Tiltion with nothing but the robe on my back, the knife on my belt, and a copy of the Book of the Blessed. I know what your thinking, how could this man have survived in the wilderness alone with no food or water. I'll tell you how, the Great Bob was looking after me, he made my reflexes quick so I could catch fish in the streams, he made my hearing better so I could here the sound of a bubbling brook, and he made my body stronger so I could travel 16 hours a day with out rest. He could do this for you too. What has your god ever done for you? Well tell me. Nothing, thats right nothing. The day after tomorrow I shall be returning to my monestary, anyone who wishes they're children to learn the Path of the Blessed may send them with me, and for the rest who are grown and have jobs, and families to support, I shall return in one months time with copies of the Book of the Blessed, and shall setup a chapel here so that you may properly observe the Path of the Blessed." After he finished speaking he sat down on the ground and started meditating.

People were quite interested in this newcomer and the message he had to give them, and some people listened while others wanted to but had to go to work and were unable to do so. When the newcomer had finished what seemed like a long message, some people began to inquire into his beliefs and asked about "monastic education" for children. Other people merely asked about where he came from, since they thought it was nice to talk to people from other colonies wherever they may be on this island. The newcomer would have been pleased to see the niceness and curiosity of the people of New Bordeaux. Some people began to wonder if any other foreigners would visit New Bordeaux and others wondered about how long this man from the monastery would be staying and about the possibility of books being given and a chapel being built. However, a few people of other religions were amazed to hear him say their deities did nothing for them.

As governor of Transocenicia, I propose to the colonies of Lacedonia and New Eilifur that a system of highways exists between our colonies to ensure cooperation and trade amongst them. With the permission of the Kiravian government, I believe that such a system would be beneficial if it linked the aforementioned colonies to Ft. Tilton as well. I believe that this would create a greater cooperation amongst colonies and improve the lives of colonists in these colonies, and possible greater cooperation amongst their mother nations.
Sincerely,

Beginning at the start of next year, the Vetalian government will begin construction of a canal linking Pavlovsk Bay and the ocean, cutting off the peninsula and granting our ships easier access to and from the bay. In addition, this will increase water circulation, helping to offset the effects of ship traffic in the bay. Overall it will lead to a reduction in shipping costs, easier exit from the bay, and faster delivery and stopover times.
We estimate the cost to be $100 million over the next three years, which will likely be recouped in around five years following completion. All nations are free to use the canal for their shipping needs, and a flat fee will be charged regardless of nationality for its use.

Meanwhile, New Vladistov was developing nicely. By now, all of the prefabbed shelters were replaced by apartment buildings, and several apartments have either expanded or joined with other apartments to form apartment complexes.
The canning industry grew with the surge of trade with New Bordeaux, and more shipping containers arrived from the mainland with citrus fruits for packaging. As the shipment arrived, so did the first paper shipment from New Eilífur. Soon, the local paper merchant was flooded with customers wanting to buy paper. When the day was up, the merchant collected his earnings and gave what the paper had cost him to the communications manager of the city. The comm manager went to one of the uplinks and wired the money to New Eilífur.
Dozens of new cars and scores of people flocked to New Vladistov, and development was constantly underway. What few unoccupied rooms there were in the apartments were almost instantly occupied by the immigrants. However, as more people arrived, so did more garbage. As such, most of the garbage was burnt in the incinerator nearby, but most was sent back to Stoklomolvi for processing. The incinerator was heavily filtered, and all gasses that were released consisted of carbon dioxide and water, like the cannery. The Stoklomolvi government paid for any garbage sent to it.

The colony of New Bordeaux found its first trade partner, New Vladistov. After successful negotiations between the two colonies, they were able to strike a good deal. Citrus fruits were shipped in carts and trucks to New Bordeaux, which in return for the shipments of oranges, etc sent out different kinds of vegetables such as carrots and tomatoes. So far the trading had been smooth, with shipments regularly arriving at the correct time. Citrus fruits from New Vladistov seemed to do successful in the market, with people buying them by the bag. Hopefully, the colonial authorities of New Bordeaux thought, trade could be established with other colonies.

Petropavlovsk
The city was now in its second phase of growth, bolstered by the arrival of 500 new migrants from Vetalia as well as the first supply ship of the new year. The population would increase at around the rate of 500 per quarter this year, then 500 per month in the next, and then slow to an estimated 150-200 per month as the city began to mature and migration was liberalized. Organic population growth was beginning to have its effect as well, with growth of around 1% per year.
New migrants created new demand for goods and services, and the growing economy produced increases in disposable income that increased demand for better goods and services. Brand new stores selling electronics, jewelry, cars, and specialty foods opened, new restaurants were built that expanded the selection well beyond small cafes and fast food restaurants, and four hotels, one of which was a four-star complex on the outskirts of the city were in the works. Construction activity accelerated, with new buildings rising taller and more elaborate than the initial structures, and an entire industry sprang up to supply them with locally produced building materials rather than costly imports.
A variety of construction-related factories were planned, including a cement factory, drywall and insulation manufacturers, a glass making plant, a foundry for casting steel, and several plants for tools and other supplies. Heavier equipment and advanced products such as furnaces or air conditioners were still imported, but lower shipping costs were helping to close some of the cost gap. Overall, the economy was seeing strong growth and very low inflation, a miracle scenario for the bankers and economists responsible for controlling the colony's economy.
By year's end, it was estimated that the colony would produce $105 million of economic output, nearly triple the previous year's production. It would likely triple again next year, and then grow at double digit rates for a prolonged period as the economy reached the overall level of other Vetalian territories. Indeed, the situation was so promising that the Vetalian Mint was buying land to build a small local facility to produce coins and currency for the colony to help meet its need for cash.

Of course your country is free to use our canal; the fee charged is universal, and our companies will pay the same cost as yours for its use. We do not discriminate on a national basis on any of our infrastructure and ask simply that those who use it pay a fair fee to cover its operation.
In addition, we have made provisions to build bridges and various access points across the canal for the benefit of all involved. Given the significant investments in road and rail infrastructure throughout our colony, it will benefit all parties immensely if the transit distance through Pavlovsk Bay and the ocean is shortened. We will not terminate construction of the canal, as it is economically vital to our port, but we will construct the necessary infrastructure to maintain road links and to allow others to utilize it.
However, significant survey work is still required before construction begins and we invite other colonies to be involved in the planning process.

A single boat approached silently from the north, five men in it. The mother ship waited anchored several miles east from them, itself having gone from another port in a nearby island. This particular attack was simple, an announcment more then anything else. The boat would approach, dock, then during the day, "accidentally" set fire to the docks, and flee in their boat from the flame. Hopefully the fire would spread to other parts of the city, perhaps even the whole settlement. Only time would tell.

While we have certain disagreements about the canal, as it would be detrimental to our own trade slightly, we would still like to maximize our own profits. We would like to build the canal, and two bridges spanning it, so that your own workers may focus on developing the infrastructure of your colony. We wouln't even make you pay for all the parts, there is currently not enough space for our workers and having them elsewhere would provide ample time to finish our colonial development, plus an extra city I have decided to build. We hope you accept this bargain deal.

"As long as construction does not harmfully affect any of the farms in the outskirts of New Bordeaux, you may build a chapel."

We must request that at least on bridge be constructed over the beginning of the canal before the digging of the canal completely cuts off the peninsula so that there is an uninterrupted flow of trade. Thank You.
"Thank you. Rutherford City is beginning to be constructed. We are planning on making a new multi use temple. Are there any architects in this village?"
Anees was intrigued by this man and his temple, yet he decided to stick to business for now. "Yes, actually, there are a few that I could recommend, although I'd have to know what style you would prefer. Kari Wuttern is a well known post-modern architect who has an extensive portfolio. Johannes Odan has a slightly more classical style, although it isn't traditional. I could arrange a meeting if you would be interested."

Meanwhile, the SMPF had been inspecting all ships for and suspicious packages, as usual. Then, a rather odd looking ship with some odd looking men sailed up to the dock. The SMPF officer went through the basic routine.
"Halt. State your occupation, your REAL names, not fake names, and your business here. If anything is suspicious, then we ask for proof. If your proof is false, then we shoot."
The men did not respond.
"I said, HALT."
The men still did not respond. The officer blew his whistle, and six more officers popped up.
"What is it sarge?!"
The sergeant pointed at the suspicious looking men, and the other officers readied their guns. Then, two more officers appeared, and the sergeant spoke.
"These men are oddly suspicious. Inspect the boat, and ready the shore batteries."

Meanwhile, trade continued to flourish with the two northern cities of New Eilífur and New Bordeaux. The rail line was connected between the two cities, and all three cities prospered from trade. Petropavlovsk was encouraged to connect as well, but as of late no responses could be garnered. The canal began, and the Stoklomolvi government offered to pay for all construction costs if all tolls were eliminated, but still no response.

Petropavlovsk
Within two years of its founding, the colony was rapidly on the road to full Vetalianization. Already, the economy was beginning to expand rapidly, pushing up its citizens' income and provide abundant funds for the local government, and the city itself was beginning to change. The plain buildings of the initial settlement were being renovated, upgraded to offer more amenities, and the streets themselves were becoming more opulent and decorated.

In short, the chrysalis that had been formed in the mire of the previous year was being born in to a beautiful, opulent outpost of Vetalian civilization in the distant north. Rising incomes produced a mirror image of the society that the emigrants left behind, and naturally it would produce the same tensions between those that did not share in it or the values that it represented and the Vetalians.

Trade continued to flourish, and with the rail bridge completed over the gorge that was dug under it for the canal (the bridge was around 230m high), the railway was completed, and slowly the rail was preferred over the highway. Boxcars were imported from the mainland, and these boxcars were packed with crates of canned goods for shipment to New Bordeaux. Also, communications and canned goods were shipped to New Eilífur in exchange for paper and good relations.
However, slowly New Vladistov paper demands were so high that a paper manufacturing plant was constructed in New Vladistov, ending the need for paper. To keep relations good, however, a communications tower was constructed in the middle of New Vladistov for New Eilífur use only, and goods were continued to be shipped. The Stoklomolvi government paid for the goods instead of New Eilífur.

Blue Cocoon had become very busy today, as a second stranger wandered into town. He began screaming at the top of his lungs, speaking of some sort of god who had saved his life. Most of the colonists had heard this sort of drivel their whole lives, and had learned to tune it out. Some heckled the wanderer, although some quickly took pictures, trying to capture the aesthetic beauty of the strange moment. He spoke of building a chapel and handing out books, at which most of the colonists rolled their eyes, and then suddenly fell into a trance.
At this, the more mischievous members of the community's eyes sparkled with glee. "Anyone up for some 'installation art?'" A small group of people grabbed some markers while others grabbed some spare plywood. The first group began marking on the body of the stranger, drawing symbols of various religions one his face and arms. The others constructed a rough lean-to for housing the wandering prophet. Their fun had, the colonists returned to their projects.

After he was happy with the number of tree he had chopped down he took out his saw and began cutting them into the recognizable shapes of building material. When night fall neared he unharnessed his horse from his cart, lead the horse into town and found a place that would stable it for the night. the he returned to the site for his new chapel sat down, said his nightly prayers and fell into a deep sleep.

(OOC: Shit! I go to sleep for 7 hours, and I miss all this! Someone plz give a a quick summary of what has happened.)
Soon, the Alfegos township was established: 800 prefabricated dome-like structures, reminiscentof the traditional Alfegos architecture. They were arrnaged in concentric circles towards the centre of the town: a cluster of meeting buildings and shops, set up around a large square in the centre where the radio mast had been winched up.
The airstrip was now properly tarmaced, and had 2 hangers there for small planes that had been brought along.
They now began their program of profit: 2 teams of geologists surveying the land for 10 miles around for any potential ore deposits.
OOC: Well, my place has already been developed in to IRL Cato Neimoidia (http://www.starwars.com/episode-iii/bts/artofrev/2004/12/img/ep3_art_3741.jpg), so the Vetalian population is already living luxuriously in all its decadent glory and making money hand over fist. The domes were to stay. While they had seen other parts of the island with luxurious residences, tehy decided to stay in their prefabs, where they would stay until they had made enough money.
As it was, a stripmine had been opened up 4 miles from the town. They had hit rocks rich with lead and silver, and were wasting no time in extracting it cheaply: by ripping a huge gouge in the land and using the soil to build, a massive earthen embankment around the town, to act as a defence. They had already been given hostile looks.
In the centre of the town, the now wealthier shopkeepers, as well as the voted 5 citizens in charge of the colony, had rebuilt their buildings with stone: just single massive granite blocks hollowed out to make a building, then made into a dome on the outside. Inside, they were decorated with wooden panels of mahogany from the rainforest, a stark contrast to the outside. But then, mahogany was cheaper than pine in Alfegos, due to the lush forests and the massive tree-farming industries to the south.

As governor of Transocenicia, I propose to the colonies of Lacedonia and New Eilifur that a system of highways exists between our colonies to ensure cooperation and trade amongst them. I believe that this would create a greater cooperation amongst colonies and improve the lives of colonists in these colonies, and possible greater cooperation amongst their mother nations.
Sincerely,
Governor George Kaiser of Transoceanicia
We welcome this proposal, and will gladly have your roads merged to ours. All we ask is that you do not pave over protected forestland.
OOC: COuld I get a summary as well?
Already, the mine was nearly depleted: it seemed that there was only a few metres of the ore lying just under the surface.
Over 120 000 tonnes of ore had been ripped out of the ground, and then taken by lorries to a floating harbour, dragged along with the freighters that had arrived. It was connected to the shore by floating pontoon, and was designed perfectly for the dumping of the ore into the massive ships, and the exchanging of materials, like granite, which had been shipped in to start replacing the prefabs.
Soon, the mine would be moved further, creating more spoil. This would be used to landscape the area, making it look like nothing had happened. The land above would be used for massive hydroponic farms set up for the colonists.

The Flag of Katislov stood high above the colony of Katis City, illuminated against the night sky. The nuclear power station had just been set up and lights were coming from every building. The settlers had constructed a series of fortifications around the settlement so that they could sleep in safety. Down by the port General Lith was talking to the Port Master, a man called Tem Smith. They were dicussing how to gather the huge amount of supplies that the Ministry of Defence had told them to send. Meanwhile, over on the other side of the city, miners were just begining the night shift at the iron mine. Most of the original structures in the colony had been finished but the Katislov Galactic Trade building was still under construction, at 700 metres already it would be over 1200 metres tall when complete.

As he sat in front of the new chapel, some people decided to inspect this new building including people who had sent their children to the monastery. During their inspection, some of them asked Parson Smith questions about the chapel and its services. It was possible that the Great Bob may soon have
followers going to chapel services in a colony where religions that are more known by people hold dominance.
Parson Smith was more than happy to answer all the people's questions. He also told them that soon he would be digging a new well by the chapel, and anyone who wanted to would be able to use it.

An old man, wearing a dusty white robe, and leaning heavily on a walking stick hobbled down the road toward the town.
The mine workings now had cut a gouge in the land 9 miles long and 1 miles wide, from which silver and lead was being dug and removed by massive machines ripping the rock to shreds.
The area that had been filled in by spoil had been stabilised, and was now dominated by many small granite domes, each a hydroponic unit filled with rice and soya, grown under harsh light in greenhouses filled with high C02, fertilised water filled with hormones and genetically modified to be fast growing and almost "perfect", converting water pumped from the ground and electric from the wind turbines on each unit into sugars and proteins.
It was harsh, but was for now would suffice. Soon, they would be self-sufficient, and they could alter the plant to grow more exotic flavours, such as spices and sugars from the forests of Alfegos.
The buildings had changed. Rather than the forest of metal, there was now a more organic feel, with domes of black granite melting into the landscape, and a massive rose marble tower in the centre that was the community centre: a multistoried dome with a cinema, shops, restaurants and cafes on the bottom 3 floors, and on the top floor the council rooms, with the buerocracy offices and the likes.
They wondered when Kirav inspectors would visit them, after mounting the 10 metre high bank of earth, covered in grass, surrounding the settlement. This contained the sewerage systems, and was decorated on the top with 10 massive wind turbines, slowly turning in the wind, and with a more conventional methane-burning generator from the sewerage buried underneath, for peak usage time.

The first thing he saw was a 10 meter high bank of earth, covered in grass. He struggled to the top of it and saw before him a see of domes shaped buildings.
A foreign old man was seen from the lookout on top of the white dome. They could afford one with that job,as the settlement now had 2120 poeple living there now, most employed on the massive strip mine for logistics and movement of earth.
The signal from the top to the small garrison of 10 men around the town alerted them, and they approached the man, each armed with a rifle slung over their backs.
"Greetings. How can we help you?"

A note on the Fegosian religion
In Fegosian beliefs, there is a single underlying spirit that governs life on the planet, known as the Fego'vai. There is its alias as well, of destruction and death, known as Fego'noi.
They believe in harmony with nature when possible, so do not fight or cause massive damage to the landscape.
Nowadays, the meaning is more broad with these two spirits, in which if they dig a massive mine, they have to fill it in afterwards, and make it better than it was before.
They respect other faiths, and try not to preach, get preached to or to be racist.

It was a dark and cloudy night. The candles in the Priors office were burning low. The Prior spoke in a very quite voice as he said, "I want everyone given one, do you understand, everyone!"
"Yes, sir, I understand," replied the monk standing before him.
"And do it quietly, I don't want someone to just walk up and see you doing it," said the Prior.
"As you wish, Sir," replied the monk as he left.
The Prior sighed. He had hoped he wouldn't have to deal with this kind of stuff here.

"OK. We will take you to the minister's house."
They led the man to an average sized granite dome near the centre of the cluster. They entered the building, and passed though the mahogany panelled hallway to the study. This was lined with panels of ebony and pearl: a symbol of his position.
"Welcome stranger. I am the Minister of Colonies. I am glad I could have met you. And who are you?"
He dismissed the militia.

Parson Kelly awoke two hours later to find the local had marked his body with markers and made a small lean to house over him. He chuckled to him self knowing he probably would have had a similar reaction back before he had been saved. He crawled out of the small wood pile, stood up, approached a passerby and asked, "Excuse me do you know where I can find the leader of this colony?"
The strange man seemed to have woken up, and seemed to take the fun of the colonists all in good stride. He emerged from the structure, and asked to see the leader of the colony. After explaining again that there is no true hierarchy within the colony, however that the man that he would be looking for is Anees Sartori, the small group of colonists pointed the man towards the community hall.
"It's al right, I would not say that we are openly presecuted by the government, they treat us like any religion. However, there are many people that do not like us in Brittonia, so we thought it was better to leave to here, where we had the opprutnity to leave and create a city so those of the Faedarm faith may live and prosper."
"I understand. We too seek a sort of enlightenment, not religious of course, but mental and artistic enlightenment. We have found this rock very suitable to our needs. I hope you too have found what you needed."
As he said this, the metallic door to the building creaked open, and in walked a creature, heavily bundled in various layers of coat, clothing, and scarf. As the layers were peeled off, a short, skinny, woman was revealed. She walked over to the table, and introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Kari, I hear you're interested in a building design?"

They had already been given white robes, pants and shirts to replace they're old cloths. They were lead down into the basement of the chapel building, two monks carrying one of the crates marked confetti followed them. They remained down there for ours. The they emerged one of the other monks noticed a glint of metallic black from something on the belt of one of the boys, but it was only for a second, then it disappeared beneath his robe.

The minister sat down at his desk in a black leather chair. On his bullet-wood desk were two piles of paperwork, a plaque stating his name and a fold-up moniter, the rest of the computer concealed silently within the desk.
On the walls of the room were many maps of faraway places, such as a map of Neo-Ilos, and the more hostile New Alfegos.

"Well, sir, I bring news of many things. There have been many disputes over the Vetalia canal that is being build, but I am sure you know all about that. The reasons I am here are two. First to ask if I may have permission to build a chapel in your fair city, and second to discuss trade between our colonies," he finished.
To your church, I believe that there will be no objections to such a building in our community. There is much space within our embasnkment, as you have seen.
It would be as the other buildings are: a dome. However, we can allow it to be built from rose granite, so that it stands out from the residences.
As to trade relations, well we are able to offer you little except food and lead ore. The hydroponics farms will propbably be able to support your commune and ours, once fully running. It takes about a week for the latest plants to grow to maturity. I didn't believe it myself until I saw what happens when someone splices bamboo genes into soya plants.
I doubt we can offer military support, as we have only 10 people watching over at any time. The best we can do is give all citizens guns and hope that they never need use them.
Anyway, what religion to you follow, Parson, and what does your colony have to offer?

A message to New Vladistov
We would be interested in trading or perhaps purchasing large quantities of pavement from your colony to be used in constructing our new highway system.
As for trade we have:
Tobacco
Cotton
Various Vegetables
Fish
Coal (imported from motherland)
Lumber
If none of these interests you we will purchase the supplies outright, we assure you, our currency, the new dollar, is quite valuable.
Signed,
Governor George Kaiser of Transoceanicia
The Wind generators were set up within weeks of their delivery. Now only 5% of the colony’s power came from the coal fired turbines. The port facilities had been reinforced, and were now looking like a great port of a major city. 500 more people had come to the colony, looking for democracy, prosperity, and sometimes just tobacco as it was banned in the motherland. The Lieutenant Governor, an environmentalist who had been appointed his position by the Duke, laid out a complicated but efficient plan for farming the land. The people were used to the government telling them were to farm and such, so the plan went over well. The plan also allowed for massive tree farms, making lumber a staple of the economy. Most of the houses now were log cabins and the prefabricated facilities were being taken down and recycled as best they could for other uses in the colony. Sewage systems were being dug through the town, and about half of the homes now had running water, within a month the town government estimated that all of them would. Some of the further out houses opted to drill deep wells though.
At the same time as this, a 30 year old man named Christian Constantine was out about 15 miles from the town prospecting. To his amazement he found a decent sized chuck of silver metal. He thought it was just silver, but when he examined it further he found it to valuable palladium. As best he tried to keep his discovery secret, word soon got out about the find, and many people went looking for the metal. And additional 2000 immigrants were to be arriving in a week, most of them looking for the precious metal. Before things got too bad though, the government set up laws for mining and claims on the palladium site.
Heavy equipment was being delivered to the colony as well, mostly to be used on the upcoming road project. The government was being careful to make sure that the Kiravian forestry laws were not violated by the construction of this road.
"Yes, it was. However, we do not process the ore, it is sent to themainland to be seperated from lead ore. But we are considering setting up a factory for this purpose. We will send silver to you, in small refined amounts, in exchange for the paper and wine you were offering. They both cost massive amounts to import from home.
So it is agreed? We can have the church constructed within 4 hours, to your liking of course. I'll show you around the town, and show you where it will be built."
He quickly rung up the council, had a 2 minute discussion in Fegosian, before ending the call.
"It is agreed. The granite is being moved at the moment. It will be placed on top of the embankment, if that is OK."

A man in a dusty white robe walked into town. He had in his hands a book. He walked to a crowded square, stood in the middle, and began to speak in a loud, clear voice, "Hello good people, I have traveled far to be here today. All that I ask from you is for you to take a little time out of your day and listen to me, for I have a story to tell you. Do you search for meaning in your life, a sense of purpose? I did once. I look every where. I searched the great plains of Heilagkila, journyed deep into the jungles of Glaur, climbed fabled the mountains of Seigur, and do you know what I found? I didn't realize it at the time but each time I found exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't see it. I couldn't see the forest through the trees. I was blinded by my perceptions. Then, one day in Eilífur I wandered into the great monastery there, and I met a man who told me of the Great Bob. He told me of how he created the animals, the plants, the mountains, and even humans. He told me of how hard he worked to plan things out so carefully, of how patient he was. Do you know he created all life just by creating a single, single-celled organism, and waited for millions of years for us to evolve. Yes he was very patient, ever once in a while intervening to make sure things went the right way. He has waited for millions of years for us. I have fallowed his ways ever since and have been nothing but rewarded. I now offer this to you, a life with meaning, happiness, joy. In two days time I shall be here ready to leave, if any of you wish your children to come with me to the monestary and learn the Path of the Blessed I will take them there. As for the rest of you that are grown and have jobs and families to support I shall return in one months time, and with the approval of your government construct a chapel here so that all who wish to follow the path of the blessed may," he said. Then he sat down and began meditating.

Many of these tents have now began to be torn down and several stone and wooden rowhouses were beginning to be completeted, powered by small wind generators and solar units on all roofs. Already, an inn was established, the Red Tick, to accomidate guests although currently they totaled to around three a week. Where the spaces betweeen the huts were, here are now dirt pathways where people could ride automobiles or bicycles to get around. The only automobile was still the lone Toyota Tundra truck that was Mr. Park's personal transport, most of the rest of the colonists rode bicycles to and from work and home.
Currently, for employment, most people either worked in the farms or construcing houses. In the farms there were phesant, goat and lamb being raised tor meat. As for crops, buckwheat, maize, and soy are currently being grown. Exploration for natural resources has found a tin deposit and several clay deposits, plans to import more workers will begin once preparaions and arrangements with the local governments are completer. Plans to charter a seafood catching company and build a seafood processing plant are being entertained.
One small school has been built in the city as plans to spreas the Faedarm faith are in progress.
As each foriegn colony devloped, a Kiravian observer(in the open, not secret) watched and recorded their progress, which was reported back to the Kiravian Governor, on Ailanka Island.
"Vell, ", said Governor Spicetree as he read the folder of carbon paper, "It seems that the foriegners are being peaceful and productive."
"Yes sir. And they are developing educational and transport systems as well."
"Very interesting. Zay are reshpecting the environment, yes?"
"For the most part. We will have to inform them of our laws, though. Many colonies wish to open fisheries and ranches. Their mines are already beginning to disrupt the microecosystems in their areas."
"I will have the Foreign Settlement Bureau see to it that things are put in order. How have our citizens reacted to the newcomers?"
"Variously. Settlers of the Danrev ethnic group on the peninsula are angry at the Vetalians for disrupting their trade activity. On the other hand, some of our merchants are doing buisness with the offlanders. The missionaries have been welcomed, and 2 Kiravians are known in the local media for their plans to convert."

-----------------
Meanwhile, the city continued to grow and thrive. The port was reinforced, and all wooden port structures were removed. The apartment buildings continued to expand, and because of their height, occupied very little area. The sapling forest that had been planted in the city centre grew quite large, and all lumber was imported from the mainland.
The railway was under constant maintenance and surveillance, and was used quite regularly. Soon, a location reserved for an airport was located on the permafrost north of the city. The ground was quite hard, and all that was needed to be done was flatten the land a bit and pave it over with asphalt and concrete.
"The chapel will have two rooms on the ground floor: a large room for the main chapel, and a small back room and staircase, leading to the second flloor. We decided to have 4 rooms on the top floor, with one empty if you wish for some sort of call to the chapel.

Everything was completed, Seaside Town shipping off Colchisian goods to the Democratic Empire, sustaining the mother land. Colchis, the capitol, was gaining great wealth and already rivaled other colonial cities. Agria had expanded slightly and farmers and ranchers had settled there, supporting the colony completely and sending surplus foodstuffs to the mother land. Stonewell had been completed, the downtrodden living there working in the silver mines, the quarries, and the factories. Bayside Town was then finished, extra Colchisian supplies not destined for Great Vantania to trade with other colonies on the isle. Finally, Border Town on the northern border, was being planned for construction, a sort of Agria and Stonewell combined, along with guarding the northern border against the communists.

New soldiers of the Colonial Militia were sworn in today as more colonists came from the homeland to become citizens of New Bordeaux, which was flourishing recently with the development of trade. Raymond Beaumont had popular support for his efficient leadership of the colony, which was visited by developers from the homeland who decided to help fund more development, but they did take into account the environment, etc so they would not get in trouble with the island authorities.
Parson Smith saw that his chapel housed some regular parishoners, not as much as the established belief systems dominating the scene but he still would enjoy it that people were at least welcoming him and not driving him away, after all Jefferson's "Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom" was law in New Bordeaux as it was in the homeland. So far, so good for this colony named after a French city.

Pushing past them and other Kiravian settlers, he left the aeroport and went to the city's defencive wall, where a van was waiting to take him to Rutherford City.
The minister got into a small plane waiting in the airfield, and took off. The plane flew him down to the New Brittonian settlement, where he was to greet the Brittonian representitive.

There were cheap ways that Alfegos had of transporting supplies: with favourable winds, a massive airship was coming in to the colony, carrying mininig equipment, massive blocks of granite and 80 more settelers.
The airship furled in the sails it had used to speed up its transit time, and anchorered to a barren patch of land outside the mine. The items were slowly hoisted down, as the passengers waited to walk from the underslung gondola.
Once that was completed, the masses of ore to be refined were loaded in huge crates, and then carried away.
The machinery landed was for the silver and lead works, which was to be set up. They would build it using the massive granite slabs left over from the construction of their own buildings. After about a week, the thing would be up and running, producing cheap silver and lead for the locals and for Alfegos.

"Why not?" he answered enthusiastically. Most Kiravians were either followers of Theism(without the A), Christianity, various Paganisms, or Deism, so they were quite accustomed to houses of worship.
Many of the Kiravians gathered together for the tour, while the rest stayed behind to unload the jars of ink and the large gasoline tank.

The city continued to grow, and by this point the airport was complete. An arsonist had attempted to start a fire in the port on a concrete structure, but, of course, the fire could not start. As such, the arsonist was lined up against a wall and shot in front of everyone in the colony.
Meanwhile, container ships began arriving with more goods from the mainland. The Stoklomolvi National Bank opened up a branch in New Vladistov, and the colonists were able to retrieve money from their accounts. Also opened was a branch of the Stoklomolvi National Mint. Stoklomovs were constantly being printed out of fresh paper from the paper factory.

There was a tree, the likes of which none of the natives had seen before growing in the middle of the courtyard. stacked in a corner where about 20 4' long 2' high and 3' long wooden crates labeled "confetti" stacked near the gate to the courtyard. There was a tall building with a bell tower on top of it against the far wall. There were rows of single level bunkhouse to the right. Two cylindrical store house, and a 3 floor office building were to the left. In the center surrounding the strange tree was a beautiful garden with a fountain and stream.

With the variety of other things that had been purchased, the lighter fluid would hopefully seem inconspicuous. The preaching of the missionary were mostly ignored by the Transoceanicians. They were mostly devout Catholics, and were not interested in changing; however, about a hundred colonists did go with the missionary back to New Eilifur to be converted.
On the note of religion, the large church in the east of the town had been completed and another church was being built in the west.
When the additional 2000 colonists arrived the town began to spread inland overnight. These 2000 did not have the same government support as the original 3000 and had to make their own ends meet. And so, a 10 mile long line of tents, huts, and other bivouacs was set up between the town and the mine. A daily migration of prospectors to the mine made quite a sight. Several entrepreneurs saw opportunity in the mine, and they began setting up shops selling basic supplies and more ambitious ones began breaking ground for hotels, finally, some one had the bright idea to charge admission to use restrooms, which actually worked quite well as for most of the miners they had only the woods. The main part of the town had begun work on a decent road between the mine and the town. It was currently just dirt but when pavement started arriving it would be paved. This would also be the first leg of the ambitious highway system the Daufuskiens were planning.
The City Hall prefabricated structure had been removed and a Neo-Roman structure was half finished on the site.
Also, the Duke had decided that the site now had enough people to merit a National Guard base. So a Navy transport ship moved toward the island, loaded with 200 soldiers whom were to become the Colonial Guard of Transoceanicia. They made short work of setting up a small base of operations outside of town. They also brought a satellite uplink for the town. Though the first shipment of electronics was not slated until next week, some people had brought electronics with them and were happy to be able to connect to the internet. In addition, there was also a cellular tower erected near the base.

More and more houses were being constructed to help new colonists find shelter live in while the colonial government lowered taxes by a bit during a recent meeting. More schools and hospitals were opened to accomodate people. Trucks filled with wheat still drove to the monastery and came back across the roads with paper from the monastery, which was pleased to do business with New Bordeaux. Raymond Beaumont presided over the opening of a building filled with bureaucrats from the homeland which watched over communications and relations between the two. Markets were filled with vendors who had a surplus of farm produce and the economy was booming. Records showed that children were being born and that they were slowly gaining up with the rate of settlers coming in from the mainland. Not many foreigners from other nations or colonies lived at all in the colony, the only foreigners that came were parsons from the monastery and children who were able to visit their parents who had sent them. Yolande, one of the farmers who lived near the road leading to the monastery (and perhaps other colonies) could be seen harvesting her crops, and so could Alfred and Hortense and all the other farmers. Militiamen patrolled the city's streets and outskirts in case of any invaders thinking they could waltz right in without a fight (though New Bordeaux was strictly neutral and non-interventionist like the homeland was)

Olive Green areas denote land where forestry is prohibited completely.
Spring Green areas denote land where forestry is permitted under certain restrictions.
Lime Green areas denote land where forestry is permitted, but the Land Rights belong to the Danrev settlers from Kirav.
Dark Blue areas denote waters where fishing is prohibited.
Red Hatcheured areas denote areas where mining is prohibited.
Please note that if your colony is located near a protected zone, you may look elsewhere on the island. With the new rail and road connections, this should not be difficult.
All forest harvesting operations, mines, and fisheries require inspection and permits.
Fishing
Fishing is permitted on nearly all areas of the East Coast, with permit, of course, where all foriegn coastal settlements are located.
Dolphins, Whales, Porpises, Belugæ, and all other Cetaceans are considered sentient beings, and killing them is considered murder under Imperial law. Nets must have dolphin-safe openings.
Seals, Walruses, seahorses, sea turtles, rays, and some species of shark are protected under Imperial law. Accidental capture of said creatures is understood, and if they can be released alive, the captors are eligible for a reward. Deliberate capture or killing is punishable by fines, revocation of permit, or in extreme cases, exile.
Quotas and seasonal restrictions apply on certan species of fish.
Mining
Any further mine development requires registry and site approval from the Mine Safety Bureau.
Current mining operations require monthly inspection.
Forestry
Forestry operations must be approved by the Cheif Forester of the Department.
All harvested land must be replanted in a natural pattern and not harvested again for a period of fifteen(15) years.
Teal Scottish Pine, Blue Spruce, Greater Fir, Lowland Fir, and Sand Pine are protected species under Colonial law.

When the Duke saw the map of the Kiravian Restrictions he realized that the colony was in violation of at least two. He immediately ordered a stop to all mining in the palladium mine that stood luckily just outside the illegal zone, and that all fishing boats move north of the peninsula prior to fishing. The new forestry restrictions would make building the road harder, as it would have to double back to not go into protected forests. After seizing control of the mine and turning it into a government run operation, the Daufuskien government saw it fit to go to the Kiravian Authorities to get the proper permits for the mine. It was also ordered that all fishing boats be registered with the Kiravian fishing authority. He also ordered that all tree farms move east or north into unprotected lands.
The Duke’s orders were obeyed, but not happily in the colony. Many people had to be displaced, and now links had to be built between the farming communities and the town, and the prospectors were not happy that they had to work in the government run mine instead of on their own terms as before. The fishermen were not happy having to run out extra fuel to get to open fishing waters. But the colony was still profitable and functioning.

The fire did more damage than they expected upon further examination the next morning. The crater was actually quite deep, though that could be filled in. What really puzzled the authorities was the presence of a puddle of scorched blood and gasoline in the base of the crater. The main question was, how was there blood in there, and why would anyone detonate themselves to demolish a piece of dock?
When the naval patrol scanned the morning as it did daily, they saw the apparently gun-shredded bits of a rowboat that had its bottom torn out by the lock-down gate. Four bodies were discovered floating about, and apparently they were shot to death while trying to escape from the fire. The SMPF officers who had shot them were questioned.
