Ok, here's how the game works.

Everyone who wants to play will sign up. Once we have a reasonable amount of people, two mafia people and one doctor will be selected at random and notified of their selection via telegram. Everyone else is a townsperson.

The game alternates between two turns: night and day. Night is the mafia's turn. They collaborate to select a victim and write the scene of the murder. They place clues in the murder story, and at least one of them must refer to them each turn. They then send the murder story via telegram to either me or Kiryu-shi.

Also during the night, the doctor selects one townsperson to try to save and informs me or Kiryu-shi of their choice via telegram.

After we have received the input of both the mafia people and the doctor, we will post the murder scene. If the doctor selects the same townsperson as the mafia, then that townsperson is saved. After this point, it is day.

During the day, the townspeople, including the doctor and the mafia, have an opportunity to lynch one person. They will all vote, and whoever gets the most votes will be killed and so can no longer vote. If both mafia are voted off, then the townspeople win. However, if the mafia manage to kill all of the townspeople, then they win.

Here is an example (http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=21813&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0), and another explanation of the rules (and additional example) (http://asexuality.org/discussion/viewtopic.php?t=19284&highlight=mafia) that is probably better than mine.

Christmahanikwanzikah

UN Protectorates
Deus Malum
Ghost Tigers Rise

Maybe? (please confirm if you want to play and are on this list):

Darknovae
Cluichstan

If you want to be added to or removed from the list, just say so. I think two mafia will be fine if we have 15 or fewer people, but for more than that three might work. In the 3 games I've played with maybe 10 or 11 people including two mafia, the mafia have won twice and the townspeople have one once, so I think that should be fair. But if we get more than that, it may be better to have 3.

No, and they ended up not using the detectives as it tends to make the game too complicated. I've also never been in charge of a mafia game before, although I have played the game three times. In the first I was an innocent townsperson who got lynched, in the second I survived and helped defeat the mafia, and I won as the mafia in the third. I think we should be fine with two mafia people and one doctor.

As soon as I get confirmation from some of the other people who expressed interest, we should be good to go. Then I can select the mafia and doctor at random (probably using the probability simulator on the graphing calculator or something like that, or just by putting your names in a hat) and send telegrams to the selected people. Then they start plotting and I'll set a deadline for the murder scenes.

Bad idea. Do not put clues in your night write-up unless you can be REALLY subtle, and I mean REALLY subtle with them.

We require that the mafia put clues into the stories so that the townspeople have a chance to figure out who it is. Ideally, they should be subtle with their own clues and obvious with false clues, but I won once by making my own clue really obvious in the first round and really subtle in the later rounds.

Wait, wait, the MAFIA writes the stories? Are you crazy? If the mafia writes the stories, what's to stop them putting clues in that would implicate innocents? No, this is just crazy talk.

That's the idea. They're allowed to plant as many clues towards innocents as they like, as long as there are clues pointing towards themselves. Then the townspeople must try to figure out the identity of the mafia based on the clues, posting behavior, etc. It has worked this way several times on AVEN, as seen in the examples.

Midnight, in a dark alley, on a damp winter night, the chilling rain drenching the late-night pedestrian or the homeless guy with not even a cardboard box to his name, a body is found.

A body that was the victim of a horrendous murder. The blood that seeped from the bullet hole flowed a crimson river into a gutter, diluted with the rain-water from the burst gutter pipe, that flowed like a waterfall, and splattered onto the bodies face.

Or at least it would have, had the pancake not been there. The criminals calling card, perhaps. A buttered pancake covered the stiff's bloodless face, with a fork pronged into it for good measure. The corpse's riger mortis induced fingers were tainted with blood over it's finger tips, pointed in the direction of the wall. A faint drawing could be made out, drawn in the victim's blood. A dog... or a cat? Red as a robin breast.

Questioning of the district found that the victim had been dining at the local fancy resteraunt, where apparently the White House Correspondant's dinner had been taking place. Amongst the guest list were many political activists and politicos, who'd gate-crashed the party and created chaos. A list personalities. The President and some of his staff, obviously, the Press Corps, Roger Ailes. Apparently some psycho decided to torch the place, proclaiming there needed to be some "New World Order" or World government, or somethin'.

The case continues.

Deceased: Hetwan

Ifreann's Fact Analysis:
Death by single gunshot
A buttered pancake pinned to the victim's face by a fork
Victim drew an animal on the wall in his/her own blood, a dog or cat
Victim was present at local restaurant at which a dinner for White House correspondents was taking place, which for some strange reason was attended by many A-list personalities, the President and his staff, numerous press(presumably other than the correspondents).
{A note to the Mafia, White House correspondents are journalists who report on events in or related to the White House and do so from somewhere in the vicinity of the White House. The President and A-List personalities would not attend a dinner for them}
Aforementioned restaurant was burned down by a "psycho" who wished to establish a New World Order.

How the hell did they killed the doctor already? That sounds suspicious.

I guess one hint we could use is the one where the writer used the word "Politico", which is portuguese and spanish based. Maybe that could be a hint that the guy who wrote it has spanish or portuguese as his main language. Unfortunaly I dont know an efficient way to find out where everyone is from, since no one adds this information in their profile. Also, there are a lot of english mistakes, which could mean the guy doesnt know english that much.

Both RedWulf25 and Ghost Tigers are suspects here. The drawing (cat or dog) initially indicates RedWolf. Of course.

On further analysis, a tiger is a type of cat. Perhaps the drawing of a cat on a wall was to indicate the rise of Ghost Tigers...? ;)

Think for a second... the drawing and the pancake could be thinly-veiled attempts to throw three of us into the noose. For example, the pancake could have been planted, of course.... Moving on, the The mafia could have used the fingers and blood of the deceased to draw the painting. The use of "...or a dog" indicates that the author tried to establish another false lead after reading the names of those enlisted. Blood wouldn't have been found on the ground because the pancake was lodged in the head and it was raining hard; instead, the mafia would only need enough blood to draw a "faint" picture of a "cat... or a dog"

My vote is for Northern Borders. The apostrophe use in the telegram was sporadic and wrong in certain places. Northern Borders' posts have contained patterns of word repetition after contractions (I could've had done it better.) Also, to point out the mistakes of another's English is one thing - to follow it by silly English mistakes is another (Because the english used on this writing... The people who used it)

BTW, we could just go to DarkNovae's nation page and see on top "I am teh PANCAKE." Give it a rest.

I had followed the clues, and it seemed that all the hard work would finally pay off. At last I had found the town where the Mafia was hiding. Surely, the Don would be here somewhere.

Pulling my coat closer to shield against the damp and cold winter night, I slid back into the shadows in the alley. I felt safer here. Being alone in the darkness was fitting, as I was alone in this town, an outsider whose only role seemed to be to watch the gathering darkness engulf the quiet hamlet.

I shivered, but not from the cold. A vision had flashed before my eyes, a vision of the grisly scene I had seen earlier. The eyes, open and empty, staring accusingly at me from afar, as if the Doctors last thought had been that I came too late to save him. Was it too late to save the town as well? It was too early to tell.

They were here. That was the only thing that was certain. I glanced at my notepad, trying my best to keep it safe from the sleet in the air. "UN Protectorates - questionmark - has been busy - must take a closer look" was written in red ink.

The pancake was too obvious. Or was it? Could Darknovae really be a cold-blooded killer? Maybe she was the one on the pictures in the envelope that was pushed under my door the night I got here. Or was it just a frame-up? I did not like the idea of that at all. That would mean that the Cosa Nostra already knew that I was here. That could be... unhealthy.

The confused man, I'd seen him somewhere before too. I should write down the name before I forget it. Heh, it's amazing how much information $50 could get you, if you just found the right cop to bribe. Damnit! The pen sputtered its last drops of ink and died. It seemed like death was stalking me too. That was a bed omen if I ever saw one. Ah well, I would remember it until I got to my safe house. Utracia. It was a difficult name to forget...

I am formally renouncing my previous vote. My vote now is for Ghost Tigers Rise.

After reading the message again, I realized that the "Red as a robin's breast" is an afterthought to the previous message. One would only have to think about blood to realize that it is red. However, the redness of the blood was enhanced by the next sentence, beginning with Red. This means that the author of the story was trying to frame RedWolf by mentioning the word Red instead of just saying blood because both of the mafia realized that we would react to the word Red rather than the natural color of blood.
Christmahanikwanzikah
27-03-2007, 02:41

Yeah, 'cause it's real hard to find a marker. Or paint.

Furthermore, I accuse thee because the clues are strong, but not blatant. Who fits the description better?

On top of that, you say me pointing my finger makes me more suspicious. You're pointing your finger right that. So let's break this down:

GTR:
animal symbol at the scene = 1 piece of evidence against me.

Redwulf25:
animal symbol at the scene + symbol is red = 2 pieces of evidence against you.

Accusing someone does not factor into this equation, because all townspeople must accuse someone. Furthermore, being accused does not factor into the equation, because doing so would basically be saying: "the subject is guilty because he has been accused of being guilty". That is a logical fallacy (affirming the consequent, I believe), and should have no bearing in this matter.

I find it impossible that the victim was able to draw the "face of the attacker" on the wall when dead from a shot to the head. Remember, the pancake pinned to the head stopped the bleeding.

Indeed. It seems we have found a contradiction. The victim could not have drawn the picture of the "red wolf" in his own blood. It seems that this indicates the murder was carried out thus:

1. The victim is somehow ushered into the alley. Chased perhaps, or pushed. It seems unlikely that he was dragged into the alley, since that would leave a trail of blood, unless it was washed away by the rain. The alley was the scene of the crime.

2. The victim is shot in the head. He is no doubt dead before he hits the ground. The murderer then dips the fingers of the victim into his wound, drawing blood onto the fingertips. He then uses the victims bloody fingers to draw a picture of a wolf on the nearby wall.

2. The victim is shot in the head. He is no doubt dead before he hits the ground. The murderer then dips the fingers of the victim into his wound, drawing blood onto the fingertips. He then uses the victims bloody fingers to draw a picture of a wolf on the nearby wall.

..A body that was the victim of a horrendous murder. The blood that seeped from the bullet hole flowed a crimson river into a gutter, diluted with the rain-water from the burst gutter pipe, that flowed like a waterfall, and splattered onto the bodies face.

Or at least it would have, had the pancake not been there.

This can be read two ways.
The blood was not diluted by the rainwater coming from the burst pipe because the wound to the head was covered by the pancake.
The water from the burst pipe did not splatter onto the victims face because of the pancake there.

So, we can't really conclude that the victim was shot in the head.

The corpse's riger mortis induced fingers were tainted with blood over it's finger tips, pointed in the direction of the wall. A faint drawing could be made out, drawn in the victim's blood. A dog... or a cat? Red as a robin breast.

Note: finger tips. One doesn't use all 10 fingers to draw. Though this is probably over analysing, as it could just be the poor English skills of the mafia showing through(filthy i-talians :p). Unfortunately, we once again can't conclude either way as to whether the cat/dog thing was drawn by the victim or not, the killer/s could just have easily have dipped his finger(s?) in his blood after killing him.

At this point the only clue that points unambiguously at one person is the pancake.

I had just finished my second cup of coffee of the day - good quality coffee too, that girl Edna behind the counter knew her stuff, I would have to remember that when the bill came around - when I completely unintentional overheard parts of a conversation from a nearby table. An irish guy going by the name Ifreann or something said some derogatory stuff about italians in general. Placing the cup back down on the table gently, I made a mental note of what I'd heard. The irish were renowned for being active players in organized crime too, could this guy be one of them too? Was he trying to cloud the issue by claiming that the other leads found on the scene were inconclusive? Or was he investigating the case? He didn't mention that the pancake probably wasn't brought onto the scene by the Doc himself - so the killer must have placed it there. He was right about two things, however: The Doctor was shot, but a single glance would not reveal where he was shot. I couldn't know if the Doc had painted on the wall or if someone else had done that for him. And the steak they served in this place really was to die for. I decided to get another cup of coffee while enjoying the aftermath of the meal...

First, he was the second to write here on this board, only 30 minutes after the death scene was posted. Ifrean doesnt count because he is a spammer. :D
Second, he was very intent on framing RedWulf, in his very first message, basing it on something that not even Ifrean noticed.

Okay, here's my reasoning:

If we're going on typing, we choose The blessed Chris. I read his posts... some Engrish deficiencies. The first quote is from another forum; the second is from the murder scene.

If we're going on "evidence," we go with either Darknovae, RedWolf25 or Ghost Tigers Rise. Since the pancake was an obvious plant, Darknovae is either the prime suspect or the framed. RedWolf25 was obviously framed, for reasons I already posted. Finally, there's Ghost Tigers Rise. The "... or a cat?" would seem to mean that it was put in as an afterthought, but I think that might have been on purpose.

I don't mean to flop on everything I say, but I now feel that The blessed Chris could be connected to the crime. For one, he hasn't made a single accusation or assessment of the crime on this forum. This indicates (to me) that he is either involved in the mafia or afraid to make a decision. In this case, the former should be true because of the number of evidences presented.

He could also be the one or two that doesn't check his TGs... :D

To be fair, he's doing the same to me. And, from a certain point of view (i.e., mine), I'm the one being framed.
Third, I think he is not from an english speaking country, which could means english is not his first language.
So many things wrong with this statement.
First of all, I was born in Florida, and I've never been outside of the East Coast.
Second, if you paid any attention to me at all on NSG, you'd note that I'm always talking about how awesome living in New Jersey was, how much I hate living in the DC area, how much the New Jersey Devils rock, etc
And, finally, I'm much more literate and have much more mastery than eighty or ninety per cent of Americans on the internet, if not this individual forum.

The townspeople should be advised to proceed with caution at this point. If both of the suspects are mafia, and both are lynched, then the townspeople will have won. If one is innocent and the other is guilty, then there will only be one mafia left. On the other hand, if both are innocent, the townspeople would be playing right into the hands of the mafia if they lynched both.

I could practically feel the paranoia sliding down the walls themselves, it was that close to tangible. Things had taken a turn for the worse! RedWulf25 had been fingered as an infiltrator, and rightly so as the only clue that the Doc could have placed pointed to him... or Ghost Tigers Rise, it was true. I had nothing on either person, though RedWulf25 did bear a striking resemblance to supposedly deceased Salvatore "Shotgun Sal" Salieri.

The townspeople seemed to be in the mood for a hanging, and someone was running out of time quickly. Maybe even two persons would have a date with the rope in the morning - after all, that would be the natural solution in such a paranoid environment. Invoking the spirit of the dead doctor to help decide who would be fed to the birds was, in my view, just a silly and suprestitious idea. After all, the man was dead, and that was hardly a condition in which to vote on anything.

Bah, I decided to take a huge risk, and ordered the chocolate cake. A lethal poison if I ever saw one, but oh so tempting...

RedWulf25 was sitting at home reading a book when he heard the sound of what could only be a mob of angry Generalites approaching, seeking justice for the murder of the doctor Hetwan. He put down his book when he heard a repeated bashing against his door, followed by the sound of the door falling down.

RedWulf25, panicking but determined to escape an unjust lynching, hurriedly opened his bedroom window as the smell of smoke from the torches held by Utracia, Londim, Deus Malum, and Christmahanikwanzikah reached his nose after they set his living room ablaze.

After he defenestrated himself and landed on the grass, he was shocked to see that Ifreann and UN Protectorates were right beside him. They seized him and dragged him to a nearby tree after tying his hands with a bungee cable. Northern Borders and Ghost Tigers Rise were waiting by the tree with a chestnut-colored horse and some rope already fashioned into a noose and attached to a large branch on the left side of the tree.

Redwulf25 protested and tried to convince the townspeople that they were making a terrible mistake, but it was in vain.

As the sun set on the town, the chestnut-colored horse galloped away and the neck of the innocent RedWulf25 snapped. While the unfortunate townsperson’s house was in flames, those who had started the fire came out to see his untimely demise, knowing that two murderers were among them (unless they were among the absentees?) and were beginning to plot the death of another innocent even now.

It is now Night.

Can't say I didn't see it coming. There was no doubt in my mind that he was innocent. God forgive me, but he would have done the same (and, indeed, he tried to, the sniveling weasel).

The house was quiet and all seemed like a normal night. The TV was on, reporting a murder that had happened before, the murder of Redwulf. The viewer seemed to be intently watching the screnn as if his life depended on it. However that wasn't possibel as he was dead, he being Ghost Tigers Rise. The scene was slightly surreal. A song was playing in the background. Thw words Have A Nice Day were being repeated, a nice calm song. It didn't belong. Again a pancake was there but this time on Ghost Tigers lap. Maybe his final meal or maybe a clue... Also random pictures seemed to be dotted around the room that just didn;t belong. A picture of a cat here, a flying fish there...very strange indeed.

A pancake was found in the victim's lap
A calm song with the lyrics "Have a nice day" was playing. Most likely Have A Nice Day (http://www.stlyrics.com/lyrics/roswell/haveaniceday.htm) by the Stereophonics(IMO)
Random pictures were dotted around the room, including a cat and a flying fish. It is unknown if they were drawn by the victim or the killer

Reluctantly I had to admit it - they had won this round. And they had gotten away with it.

I found myself back at the restaurant, staring into the bottom of a glass of scotch, the ice cubes melting just like Roxy's heart back in 'Vegas when I gave her that diamond necklace. But that was ancient history. The only dame in my life now was Edna, and she was an angel with the booze though not...

My train of thought was derailed by a treetrunk of a memory pushing its way in. I could remember the look in the eyes of Redwulf25 as the horse started to run. I could remember the shock I felt seeing... or rather not seeing the tattoos on his belly as he was writhing at the end of the rope.

I lit a cigarette. Shotgun Sal was dead. And now an innocent civillian was too. And I had done nothing, because I had believed in the words of a dead man. Believed that the Doc was pointing him out. But it was becomming clear now, that all the clues were misleading possibly placed there by il Cosa Nostra themselves. Two for the price of one. I felt sick.

Taking a deep breath, I knew it had just begun. I now suspected that whomever the Mafia was, it was probably someone... stealthy. Someone who hadn't spoken much or drawn attention to themselves. Someone... someone whom the clues did not point towards. I was just about to look at my notes again when a rugged man ran through the door. I swung around, desperately grabbing my .38 under my jacket, but the man ignored me completely. I recognized him as Jasper, the mortician. He went straight up to Edna and said: "I need a stiff drink. A large one. You won't believe this: They found Ghost Tigers Rise. He's dead!"

He was wrong. I could believe it.

As far as I can see it, she thought the original message didnt contain enough clues, and added this one as extra to give us some more info.

Anyone has any idea?

Wikipedia:
Etymology
The word "cyanide" was probably extracted from "ferrocyanide", which came from Latin ferrum = "iron" and Greek κυανεος = "blue", referring to the blue color of Prussian blue.
In nature
Cyanides can be produced by certain bacteria, fungi, and algae, and are found in a number of foods and plants. Cyanide is found, but in small amounts, in apple seeds and almonds.[2] In plants, cyanides are usually bound to sugar molecules in the form of cyanogenic glycosides and serve the plant as defense against herbivores. Cassava roots (aka manioc), an important potato-like food grown in tropical countries, contain cyanogenic glycosides[3][4].

The Fe-only and [NiFe]-hydrogenase enzymes contain cyanide ligands at their active sites. The biosynthesis of cyanide in the [NiFe]-hydrogenases proceeds from carbamoylphosphate, which converts to cysteinyl thiocyanate, the CN- donor. [5]

Well the pancake has appeared again. Either the mafia wants us to lynch Darknovae or Darknivae is in the mafia. However the pictures, as pointed out, are an Ifreann special. Lets go back to the first scene where Redwulf was killed. There was a drawing on a cat/dog, a picture even. Maybe Darknovae and Ifreann are both in the mafia.

That part with the fish though sounds pretty damning though. It is a bit more vague though, not everyone may know of Ifrean and his pics. I don't think there is anyone on all of NS who doesn't know of the Darknovae/pancake connection. Unless they are making this game really easy it still sounds like a false clue.

The pancake clue is too obvious, so I'm not voting for Darknovae. Can't figure out the other clues though...

I still say we vote for lynching Ifreann.

How 'bout we lynch Darknovae, then Ifreann? Then we eliminate the most obvious source of all of our clues, and if that doesn't work, then we eliminate the next source of our clues.

Though there could have been a clue that we missed in the blurb about the restaurant getting burned down.

Know any of these people to be arsonists? :D

I'd say the clue lies in the person with the whole "New World Order" thing...

It's times like this that I wish I paid some attention to the politics of the other generalites.

I'm going to vote on Ifreann this time. Its just the link of pictures. Pretty damning if I do say so myself.

This seems rather sensible. I vote for Darknovae.
