"I'm sorry Crossley. I would give your men back for mine if I didn't have the orders to hold them. Also it was General Montcalm. Yes I want him shot. He could start a more bloodly war from happening. I will have to see this myself." Lt.Dumas stood up and followed Major Munroe. He saw O'Reilly being taken out of the stockade. Pierre must of been in there too. Looking at O'Reilly he showed no emotion.

Colonel Crossley replyed to Lt.Dumas,

"I understand Lt, i would return your men if i was able to do so aswell..."

The sun shone brightly in the parade square, six recoats marched out in ranks of three with two drummers at the side in the front, a slow beat echoed through the air. Colonel Crossley stopped Major Munroe from taking up the officers position taking it himself he bellowed out an order,

"Sqaud! HALT!"

Two soldiers pushed O'Reily up against a wall on the right side of the fort,

"Squad! Right face!"

He drew his sabre, the sun bounced off the shiney blade..

"Make ready!"

The hammers clicked back..

"Take aim!"

The drums let off a faster paced beat and everything went quiet, soldiers stopped what they were doing and stood there quietly...

Colonel Crossley looked into the mans eyes, he gripped harder on his sword handle and slowly raised it in the air..

Lieutenant Colonel Dumas, I say again, you are under arrest for treason agaist the French crown, and attempted murder of an officer. How dare you lie to Colonel Corssley, and myself. Reallydrunk']Lt.Colonel Crossley received the dispatch from General Baird while he was in the hospital within the fort. He was pleased with the reply from General Baird, he realized the reason for the amount of troops that would be sent to assist the forts defences, the native allies and members of the Militia would be sent to make sure the men would have safe passage through enemy territory to the fort,

"We are receiving aid here at the fort, it is great news..." He said to Halona

He exited the hospital to leave her with the French soldier who requested her presence, he had dutys to attend to. He met up with Captian Sharpe in the parade square,

"Ahh Captian! fine scrimish on your part..we are being reinforced and i have made the proper arrangements so that they receive safe passage, I will be asking the French for a parlay so that we may discuss certian issues..such as POW treatment and targeting of officers during engaugements, i must claim a greeved status"
Sharpe was drilling some of his men in the parade square when Crossley arrived. When the news was announced, he replied, "Sir, that is indeed excellent news. I hope that perhaps my commanding officer from India, Lt. Col. McCandless, may command them. The General mentioned something of the sort in Albany.

I would caution you against an agreement regarding officer targeting- though most officers are gentlemen, our soldiers are not, and it is a very effective tactic, particularly for Riflemen. I would humbly suggest that we not throw away a valuable advantage over the French, that is, the use of Rifles. For volley fire there is no better than musketry, but it is woefully inaccurate, and thus for individual targeting the Rifle is a far more precise instrument.

If you will excuse me, sir, I believe our defences could use a bit of strengthening- in particular, embrasures in the upper parts of the wall, with wooden walkways behind, would be particularly suited to our soon-to-be larger force, to maximise our firepower."

OOC: I've set it up so Sharpe will miss the Parley, because IRL I missed it lol... also, I realised that since McCandless is in command of as many men as the fort currently has, he should probably be a higher rank. I don't want to infringe on Crossley's authority, so he's just the same rank.

after Michael had taken a shower and cleaned up, he headed for the mess. He had smelled the food, when he entered the complex. The dinner, chicken with rice and bread. The good thing about this place, plenty of ale and liquors. He hadnt had a decent British ale in a long time. He quickly grabbed grub, a tankard of ale, and sat down with a group of redcoats. He introduced himself. They asked what he did. He said he was an explorer, but was also a writer and had written many news articles and kept several journals. In her quarters of the fort, Halona laid upon her bed as she comtinplated on what to do about the french man's discovery of her. Gun shots were what startled her, and she sat up wondering what had happened. Standing up, she walked in the hall and shut her door to the room before beginning to walk outside the fort. From one of the windows, she could see one of the french men get on his horse and all of them followed his example. Sighing, the young woman made it to the door and out in to the sunlight, her form leaning up against a wall away from all the movement. Halona couldn't see much;

The column moved steadily through the semi-wilderness, fifes playing, men marching, drums banging, and officers riding. The bayonets of the men glinted in the sun, while near the head of the column a grey-haired man on a chestnut stallion clopped along in a cluster of aides. He wore the uniform of a Lt.Col., with one difference- instead of the regulation pipeclayed breeches, he wore a Scottish kilt. On his back was strapped a massive claymore, and behind him, arrayed in ranks, were the fearsome Highlanders. They alone among the five companies had unique instruments- two bagpipe players that piped along as the Sergeants counted out the step and the reinforcements to Ft. George moved on.

Colonel Crossleys men were startled by the gun fire but simply held their ground and prepared for further hostillities ,but they did not come,

Colonel Crossley replyed placing his sabre in its scarrbard..

"Go in peace Colonel Orlean and Lt.Dumas, no harm shall come of you on your way to your destination..."

"As for the British soldier he attacked, he seems to be fine, minor neck .....injuries were inflicted...if it had lasted longer i would have lost a man...then problems would have arose..."

Colonel Crossley gave his good byes to the departing Frenchman at the gates, Captian Webb had told the native allies to ambush the enemy forces a mile from the fort but Crossley was informed therefore sent a messenger to inform the natives to withdraw quietly as if the plot never existed. Colonel Crossley respected the French officers who presented themselves at the fort for parlay.

"Captains, men...we have a choice. And believe me, it is not an easy one."

Nomara had gathered his captains together, to consult them. The men also had a voice, and many of them were gathered round...but it was the captains who really had to be won round.

"The British occupy the fort. Commanded by a colonel, I would reckon their strength at around a half-battalion, with dragoons, militia and Indians also...and some undermanned cannon. They may well have reinforcements on the way.
The French are outside; as far as I'm aware no cannon, I don't know how many regular soldiers, or how many militia and Indians, or what reinforcements they can expect.
Both sides would be prepared to employ us. What I don't know, is whether to go with the British for a relatively easy victory, or with the French, so we keep being paid for a while."
Captain Smith had been listening closely - as had they all, but he was first to speak. "The British. The Brits usually have more ready cash, and I don't want to fight and die for French promises."
Captain Schwarz: "The French. The British sound as though they need us less, and so are more likely to shaft us. If things go badly for the French we can always move on."
Captain Cole: "I think we should look at taking the fort from the British and ruling this area ourselves. Recruit any of the survivors who'll join us, start a new nation out here."
Captain Olaverri: "We don't know enough about the French. But with what we know, I say the French."
Captain Owen: "French."

"Three are for the French, one for striking out alone, and one for the British. Will all of you accept employment from the French."
After a pause, a low chorus of "Aye".
"I shall inform the commanders of our decision then."

OOC: Umm... exactly what character are you saying by 'Captain'... my only captain is Sharpe, but he's already inside. Also, what exactly do you mean by 'reached a decision?'

Also, I've read the earlier posts and noted the French posted a few militia to fire on those entering the fort, but I assume that upon the arrival of over 400 men, they would be wise enough not to attack.

The lieutenant saw an army of what appeared to be Scotsmen arrive. He could not make out what words they were saying, but he could report about reenforcements. He ordered the other men to make ready. The sergeant amde sure everyone was ok, and with a whisper of "fire", the seven muskets went off, heading straight for the middle of the scotsmen. They reloaded, and a minute later, fired another round of volleys. They remained hidden, low behind the foliage. Thank God those fifteen men are where horses can't go. Hard to walk back there too, if your not from the woods. thought the sergeant. They reloaded, and another minute later, fired a third round. If men approached, they would fire one last shot into their bodies, then lead them into the woods. Welcome to Laker George.

Immediately upon hearing the shots, the forces' pickets moved toward the enemy, keeping low in the grass and firing when their sights bore. At a word from the picket sergeant, they ducked, giving the massed ranks on the road a chance to fire a disciplined volley.

Over fifty muskets went off, coming from all angles at the location of the enemy shots.

Then the soldiers double-timed it into the fort. Remaining were the thirty or so pickets, joined by 20 Indian scouts. Five riflemen marched out from the fort, ready to pick off anyone they saw moving in the trees, while Sharpe ordered another ten men to head off the enemy from the other side of the fort.

Everyone else stood up, fired shots at the men outside the fort, and made themselves known, before going deeper into the woods, breaking sticks so they could easily be followed. Two men crept to the edge again, and aimed carefully at the ten men, and crouched low, fired, from behind a rock, at the riflemen. The two men were excellent shots. They crawled back farther, and stopped, and waited for the men to follow. The fifteen men were on either side of a narrow clearing. Seven on one side, Seven on the other, and the Lieutenant on one side as well. There were rocks that the seven others could jump behind. Then, they would block the British exit, and take prisoners, if they could. They waited, and if the soldiers got close, they got a little farther.

OOC: Only one minor wound from more than 60 shots?

IC: When the enemy stood up to fire, they were hit with another volley from the rear company as it stopped its march for a moment. The five riflemen, thirty pickets and twenty Indians hunkered down at the edge of the foliage, firing as they went down, the riflemen slightly behind as they forced the tight-fitting bullets into the grooves. At this short musket range of around 80 yards, they weren't really needed, but due to the amount of cover the enemy now had as they retreated, the higher accuracy would turn a very uncertain thing into good odds.

The Riflemen from the rear of the fort moved sideways to rendezvous with those at the front of the fort, covering each other and firing at the two enemies as they got the chance. Several loaded for Corporal Daniel Hagman. Dan was a poacher from Wiltfordshire who had drunk too much rum one night, and was caught by the landowner. When threatened with years in prison or service in the army, he chose the latter. Due to his former profession, Dan is the company's designated marksman, and as other men loaded rifles for him, he kept aiming and firing at the enemy.

He raised his voice, shouting, "Picket line will retreat in good order to the fortress!"

Sharpe echoed his words from farther back in the fort, and the pickets, riflemen and Indians retreated under the covering fire of the guns, their canister ready to make mincemeat of any enemies who followed.

McCandless turned to his second in command, Major Hogan, and said, "Hogan, get these men some dinner, and make up the butcher's bill... I must speak to this Crossley." We are using tents for now, as you can see, but, I am trying to convince the lieutenant Colonel that when we build the tower, with a wall around that, that we make it a commander's quarters, with walled off areas for the three of us." He chuckled, and waited for Dumas to add his input.

Anything too big, come right back. Anything small, take it. Apart from that, just get to know the lie of the land; I feel we'll be fighting here soon."

"Sir."

Two hundred men, a mix of muskets and rifles, dispersed from the fort and spread out into the forest.

OOC: Kipu is not visible....it would also be impossible to tell which ones are leaders...

The twelve natives who attacked the shooting soldiers were reinforced by twenty more who emerged from the trees, ten on each side...then another ten chraged out of the trees..

They also let out ferice war crys charging at the enemy, One solider fiddled with his bayonet but was struck in the face by a tomohawk. Kipu's war party were not yet finished with the French, once they had taken down afew more soliders they would high tail it back to the fort, he threw a spear at one of the French soldiers and once he dropped Kipu dissapeared like a ghost into the woods.

The forty or so native warrirors battled it out with the French, slicing and stabbing with their knives and tomohawks while others fired the muskets that had not yet been fired..the battle raged on for a short time longer then the native warriors retreated quickly while covered by afew men.

One private was hit in the back from a rifleman. He fell, dead. As the trees fell, they crashed on another man, and broke his legs. He laid still for a minute, but then picked up his musket. He would die anyway. He aimed at who appeared to be the best marksman (Hagman), and fired his musket at him. He had good aim, as he was from the Canadian backwoods.
The treeline moved back, and they ran quickly, jumping behind stumps as they went. One man said, loud enough so others could here, yet like it was suppsoed to only be heard by his comrades, "Shit! We are the only French around!" They crouched, and returned fire. When will they follow? the sergeant thought, holding his shoulder.
OOC: I've got 180 shots, not counting riflemen, well within musket range, and only one person is hit, and lightly? In return, from your seven men, I've taken three regular casualties and one Rifleman...

IC: The Riflemen fired a parting volley and ran towards the fort. Daniel Hagman was nearly hit, but the rifleman behind him took the bullet instead, blood blossoming from his neck as he fell. The riflemen cleared the bastion and entered the fort, just as the pickets and Indians fired one more time and ran for the gates as well. On the bastion, McCandless's gun crews had gotten ready, and the guns were belching canister into the forest, hoping to hit the enemy. Itwould not have a huge effect at this range, but if the enemy approached then they would be shredded.

OOC: I was planning on posting the casualties afterwards, when McCandless asked for the Butcher's Bill, but due to our OOC arguing I did it sooner. It's true my men are in the open, but I was under the impression this fort had a musketshot distance cleared around it... after all, it's only common sense, and it seemed that way from the map.

You fired with seven men, it seems reasonable I'd take four casualties. I, in return fire, fired with over 40 men all the time, and an additional 50 men twice, and yet you still took no casualties. When there is a very large mass of bullets, even if you do have cover, it is very difficult not to get hit when the ratio of bullets to men is almost 15:1. And that's not even counting in the multiple volleys.

IC: McCandless thanked Crossley for his information, and then he oversaw the storage of the supplies to keep the fort from surrendering in a siege. When the riflemen, pickets, and Indians returned, he took stock of casualties and told the men to get some dinner at the mess.

Opposing them are an indeterminate number of French troops and militiamen, as well as some mercenaries amounting to 500 men. It appears the French have built a rudimentary fort as well, that Crossley has just discovered.

"What type, how many, and who commands?"
"Regulars, near two hundred, and they've turned over command to Colonel Orlean."
"Good. Good news. Hopefully this should give him the upper hand over Dumas."
"Sorry sir?"
"Surely you've noticed the two frog colonels always at each others throats?"
"You could say so."
"Well, this should give Orlean control, making the whole lot more effective. Hopefully he'll give the militia a bit of discipline, and the regulars a bit of forestry, and between them they'll be quite effective for fighting here."
"Sir."
"Ah yes. Dismissed."

It was the rain that awoke Halona this time, she sat up, got her comb out and brushed her hair before standing and walking out of the safety of her room. Feeling rather hungry, the young woman made her way to the mess hall, the large building not being difficult to spot through the rain. Halona entered, looking around her and seeing what there was to see.

Crossley was drinking again, he sat in his study sipping on some brandy then stood up placing the glass down, then walking towards the door he picked up his hat placing it on his head. He left the command building going out in the pouring rain, soldiers nodded to him as he walked by, he returned the friendly/respectful gesture they had given him. He seen the native allied leader, the one whom they called Kipu and approached him,

"Well done, that was a real thorne in their side..keep it up, we are all proud of your actions today..also i am sorry for your losses"

Nomara met the messenger on his way to meet with the French commanders.

"Gentlemen, what the HELL is going on here? Do both of you wish for the British to have the victory here, or is it mere coincidence that you make it appear so?

Ever since we have arrived, and seemingly before, you have been engaged in an unseemly struggle for command. It divides your men, it confuses them, it damages morale, and it only helps the British.

Now can the two of you sort out your differences, or will you have to fight a duel like men to settle the issue? Because if this drags on I will be forced to leave you to it, taking my men with me. As a new day came, Nomara decided his men would venture out; through the forest.
They would visit any Indian tribes that could be found, beginning to win them round to their own side; for this they would go without the French, who already had allies and enemies amongst the Indians, and thus could not reach out to those allied with the British.
And any British forces they met out there, would be destroyed. That would help with the process of winning the Indians round.

Five hundred men, in their five companies, left the French fort. He had informed the French of this plan, but did not expect them to come along. They moved off, scouts out well ahead, and to both sides.

I highly suggest you join, it's going to be really cool. here's the link:

Halona followed Williams instructions after watching the mug hit the wall. She stepped back, cocking the gun, aimed and after letting out her breath she fired. She watched as the mug flew backwards, seeing the hole wasn't exactly in the center like William's hole, however close as she inspected her shot.

Crossley grinned and spoke,

"There! that was a good shot.."

He signaled one of the infantry officers to come over then asked him,

"Pistol Leiutennet?"

The officer waited for Crossley to reload then passed him his own, Crossley adjusted his stance then aimed at one of the mugs,

*BOOM*, he quickly raised the other pistol and fired again, *BOOM*

Two tin mugs flew through the air and hit the wall behind the barrells, he looked at Halona and smiled,

"There! we will not work on that one today though, take another shot..this is how you reload this.."

He passed the Leiutennet the two pistols and started the process of reloading Halona's, once it was complete after afew seconds he said to her,

"Take another"

"I can fire these from horse back aswell, it is complicated but not impossible.."

Halona waited for William to pass her a loaded pistol before her eyes focussed upon him, "You are showing off to me, no need for that Mr. Crossley."
She adjusted her stance again, aiming for one of the mugs and at a quicker more accurate aim she hit the mug in the center and watched it smash against the wall with a satisfied grin upon her face.

Crossley smiled,

"Miss Halona, i assure you, i don't show off.."

He watched as she hit the target once again,

"Bravo! wonderful shot miss Halona..now i think it is you who is showing off?"

He grinned at his comment then looked at the other officers who stood behind him,

"We should put her in with the regulars, yes? aha"

The other red coated officers laughed talking amongst themselves, Crossley looked at Halona,

"You have a talent for this sort of thing, you shoot...like a gentleman?"

He cracked a grin once more while taking his fine pistol back from the Leiutennet,

"Some day i imagine we will have guns that fire mulitiple shots...no damned reloading after every single shot, make things so much easier.."

Halona laughed, "I could be a gentleman, one never knows now do they?"
She smiled as William spoke and then she replied, "You have quite the emagionative mind Mr. Crossley, I have no doubt in my mind that men so obsessed with killing things will come up with such a weapon."
She then looked at William the grin still on her face, "Should we go at it again? Or, do you have something else in mind."
