OOC: Dragons are listed in my factbook, so I do have a basis for this. Inspiration comes from the D&D Supplement "Oriental Adventures."

I'm looking for up to 5 people to join.

To all Civilized Sentients in the Universe-

I have decided to hold a hunt for the purpose of meeting new people, and to just have some fun, and to help out some locals, who are quite frankly flustered. In this case, I have elected to hunt a unique species endemic to our neck of the woods: the Tun Mi Lung, or translated from the Chinese, the Typhoon Dragon.

What is this beast? It is a long, serpentine dragon, with powerful psychic abilities that exists mainly around bodies of water, especially in Japan and China. This type of dragon has the unfortunate quality of stirring up whirlpools and causing minor hurricanes at the slightest provocation. Recently, several major typhoons have caused an unusual amount of activity, resulting in flooding and storms in the Western Pacific Ocean. One particularly bad one, dubbed the "Banshee" by tourists, has been wreaking havoc in Kyushu. Said monster has blue scales, and a large scar from when a local fisherman tried to use a hook to get it, plus a mean temper, something not known in Asian Dragons.

Those who join are advised to bring high-caliber weapons, and diving gear (plus clothing that will hold up to extended exposure to saltwater and freshwater). I will be bringing a specially modified sniping lasgun, and a railpistol for this purpose. I will provide transport and food, as well as medical care. If successful, we will all win prizes of at least USD$250,000 each and the Comrades Medal, the highest New Dornalian Civil Award.

An avid hunter, Alex was born in Upstate New York, to a Chinese Mother and Anglo dad. He showed great aptitude in athletics, leading his football team to victory for all of his years in High School. Eventually, while attending the University of Connecticut, he was involved in the school newspaper, and graduated with a degree in Journalism. He became a columnist for several different magazines before joining Huntin' and Fishin'. He became famous for a series of articles involving a trek through the Mongolian Steppes, hunting Buffalo and Mongolian Death Worms (these actually are rumored to exist IRL) using only an S&W 500 Revolver from distances of up to 500yds, while others relied on more modern rail and lasguns. Earning him a superman rep that ensured big sales, he was retained for Huntin' and Fishin' as a permanent member of the staff.

Interesting, a hunt, and for a Dragon, I may just get involved in this, but I'll have to get my weapons out of storage... The thoughts of famed hunter Darian Firkin k'Valdemar k'Vala turned to his psy-blade and his 11mm rifle, this would be a good hunt indeed.

1x People's Acolytes Lightsaber (not unusual for a civvie, Lightsabers in ND are treated like nunchucks or other martial arts weapons)
1x S&W 500 Pistol (an antique by this time, but it is powerful)

Alex was sitting in his rented RV, in a field in Southern Kyushu. A most rustic accomidation, this was his field quarters for the hunt. It contained his guns, his ammo, and all of his electronics. Anything needed for the trial ahead, he would have it.

He sat in it, typing away at a laptop connected to the HoloNet. He sent out the message,

"Attention all those who have shown interest. I am in Southern Kyushu. Meet me at these coordinates."

He typed in his coordinates, and for safety, marked off a cordoned area with lights. He took care not to make anything particularly bright; "Banshee" was infamous for striking at the slightest provocation.

All the while, the feeds looked dire. "Dragon flattens village, Dragon flattens fishing fleet" and so on. It seemed that the Army and the Navy couldn't take him. He was too ornery, too violent, his psychic powers too much dragon for any g-man to take.

But Alex laughed. He felt confident; he could take him on.

"Alright you bastard....I'm lookin' for you...." he mumbled to himself, as he saw the feeds.

Vengu had heard about the dragon hunt and decided to come see the man hosting the hunt. It would be a new trophy to add to his case.

He walked up to the RV and knocked on the door.

It didn't take Rei long to grow tired of building weapons without ever getting a chance to use them. She fell in the bounty hunting crowd for a short time, but later left for reasons unknown. Somehow, she made her way into hunting mythical creatures across Sovereignty space, quickly establishing herself as the top hunter among a very elite crowd. After Eshirian relations were established with the Dornalians, the myriad of new creatures to hunt brought her to the sector almost immediately. She is an expert in firearms thanks to her SpecOps experience, and is deadly in close combat largely due to her honed Eshirian Psi abilities. Her motives are unknown, especially, why she has any interest in hunting animals. However, it is known that this is one girl not to piss off.

Talmadge said, "Sure," and got a bottle of water out of the cabinet. "The water's good here, I chilled it some, so enjoy."

He handed it to Vengu, and then said, "Well, some other guys should be coming, I've got two more offers, I accepted them, they should be on their way. They've got impressive hardware, something we will need for this trip."

"What kind of weapons did you bring?" Vangu asked as he took the bottle, "Thanks for the water by the way."

Talmadge walked to a locker, nodding in acknowledgement, and brought out a an ex-Red Army sniper lasgun, and said, "Military Surplus Sniper's Lasgun, ex-Red Army, made in the Los Angeles Arsenal. Modified with power tweaks and other adjustments to provide a more powerful shot. Has a 10x scope."

He put it down, and he picked up a lightsaber, saying, "The People's Acolyte standard Lightsaber. Very rare, got it in Chinatown. Used it in Montana."

He then picked up a beefy looking pistol, saying, "Military Surplus Railpistol. Chambered in 10mm. Uses the Eshirian System to deliver 60 shots per clip."

He then picked up what looked like an old revolver, with pride. Spinning its cylinder, he said, "My trusty S&W .500 Magnum pistol, Blue Betty. She served me well in Mongolia, and in many other danger zones. I modded her with a scope. Oldie but goodie, the round'll take out the biggest of creatures with concentrated fire."

He put Blue Betty down, and said, "I also have a ghillie suit, an ex-Army reactive armor vest, a rebreather good for up to two hours, and an NBC Mask-some of these creatures spit toxins like you wouldn't believe. I also have military camo, to generally blend in."

He then said, with a sense of pride, "It is not too high tech, but this stuff has saved me time and time again."

He then said, "Enough of my bragging. Let's see your wargear."

Talmadge said, "Well, I do have a watermelon. Will that work?"

"A bit way too light." Vangu replied, "Something more on the order of a large boulder would be better. A G-rifle can actually get it's rounds into orbit, the pistol only has about a 5km range before the rounds tear themselves apart thought."

Talmadge said, "Well, this is a kinda rustic area, I got the field to allow any large ships to come in. I'll go out and get a boulder; our quarry hangs out near the coast and rivers anyway, we are nowhere near any of those spots."

Talmadge took a large tool, a rock bar, and dissapeared for a few minutes. Later, he reappeared in the RV, saying, "I've a boulder, say, about 100 pounds. It was a heavy mother, but the old rock bar got 'er out. Will that suffice?"

"Hmph, ain't this a dump." said the figure with a slightly synthesized voice.

{Show time.} She thought as she strode over to the RVs door.

She pounded once, then twice for good measure.

"It should be." Vangu replied as he brought the pistol and gave the boulder a good looking over. "Ya it'll be good, thought I'd suggest aiming away from the RV and at a slightly downward angle." He said as he removed safety, inserted a clip, re-set the safety. "Here you go, this is the safety." He hands Talmadge the G-pistol, "Oh and make sure you brace yourself and use a two handed grip."

He noticed her voice, and said, "Ah yes. Well, it's not much, but its our HQ for the hunt. It has all the food and supplies needed to deal with the beast."

He then said, "Lemme get you a chair."

He walked inside, and got a simple camp chair for Rei to sit in. He then bowed and said, "Please, sit. Something to drink?"

"It should be." Vangu replied as he brought the pistol and gave the boulder a good looking over. "Ya it'll be good, thought I'd suggest aiming away from the RV and at a slightly downward angle." He then gripped the gun firmly with a two hand grip. Aiming at the boulder and, as suggested, away from the RV and at a slightly downward angle towards the boulder.

He squeezed the trigger, and fired, sending a shot that sundered the boulder into many pieces and knocked Talmadge back slightly. He said, "Booya! This was awesome! A fine firearm I must say."

He handed it back to Vangu, and bowed. "I hold it in great esteem. It will be a good weapon for the task ahead."

Vangu turned to the new arrival, and hearing she was female, bowed in a elaborate fashion. "Greetings my huntress, might I enquire as to your name." As he straightened he continued, "My name is Vangu."

"Thank you." Vangu replied as he took back the pistol, unloaded and re-safetied it, and slid it into a holster.

She removed her helmet and her short but gleaming hair fell to her neck only. She raised her head and revealed a startlingly beautiful face. The fruit of hundreds of years of genetic alteration and progress.

"I won't drink until we catch this thing." She responded, her confident voice no longer distorted through the helmet.

Vangu turned to the new arrival, and hearing she was female, bowed in a elaborate fashion. "Greetings my huntress, might I enquire as to your name." As he straightened he continued, "My name is Vangu."

"Thank you." Vangu replied as he took back the pistol, unloaded and re-safetied it, and slid it into a holster.

Rei looked over and saw the man bowing. Rei was never much for pleasantries. "Hey." She responded simply. She considered telling him her own name, but decided against it.

Vangu returned his G-pistol to the rest of his gear, snagged his bottle of water and took a drink.

Rei turned around. She thought for a moment, it was either "Huntress" of her real name. To her, "Huntress" sounded too elegant, and definitely too formal.
She also considered the fact that all three would have to be working togethor for the time being, and being the rude one wasn't going to serve her very well on a dangerous hunt like this one. {Like it or not, I'll have to ease up on these two...} Rei thought to herself.

"Rei's the name." She said. She took a her pack off her shoulders, and set it on a table. She reached down to her holster, and brought up her pistol. She started to check the gun, then held it up, and checked the calibration of the energy "cans". Looking up at Vangu, she said in a slightly teasing voice. "So you wanna what I've got, hm?"

With a slight grin Vangu replied, "Yes I would Rei. If you want to see what i'm working with I'll show you." While thinking, "Rei, nice name, and very interesting lady. She intrigues me quite a bit."

Rei returned a small grin, and layed out her personal mini-armory. Weapons had always been something that she loved.

"First item's on the list is the MEG-45. Fires Multi-phasic energy round and regular physical round out the same barrel. Good for anything up to an elephant with the right aim. It's got a special sight good for precision shots up to 1KM. It's powered by a micro Zero-P Generator so it's got almost unlimited ammo. Special modifications mean that I can charge up an energy blast to nearly twice the normal optimum power output. Heavy but durable. If it gets totally busted, heh, you can always throw the thing at your prey."

She set down the gun, and brought up her rifle. "This is my own version of the army's MERA-19 Type 3. Also fires Multi-phasic energy rounds along with physical rounds. Scope's good for up to 3.5KM, and with the Spatial Targetting System installed, it'll do 6 KM just fine. Same power plant as the MEG-45, but this thing'll take on a tank if you charge the blast long enough. Light, easy to handle with it's short stock, and shortened barrel."

She set down the rifle and continued, "I've also got a few knives, a Psi blade, some chains, a few throw stars... But if all else fails... I've got some powers of my own..." She brought up her hand, and a small orb of energy flashed into existence. It crackled and shook a bit until Rei closed her palm.

"The rest, I'm sure you'll see in the field." Rei said slyly. She gathered up the rest her gear, and looked back up at Vangu. "Alright, you've seen some of my stuff. Show me what'ya got." Rei said simply.

MEG-45 “Boomer” Multi-Phasic Energy Pistol

Purpose: Taking down Med/Light Armored opponents, Sidearm.

General description: The MEG-45 is the standard sidearm used by the Eshirian Armed Forces. Packing tremendous energy in an accurate and stable energy transfer conduit, the “Boomer” gains its name from the thunderous boom it makes when fired. The MEG-45 is known for its excellent stopping power against light to medium armored opponents, and is praised for its reliability in the field, even under the harsh conditions of the extreme cold, and the desert.
If there are any drawbacks to this gun, it is its somewhat large size, heavy weight, and a steep learning curve to handling this weapon. No one denies however, that an MEG-45 in the holster is often the closest thing to an insurance policy in close quarter firefights.

General description: The MERA Type 3 is a small weapon similar in design to the MERA-19. However, the main differences include a far greater energy containment capacity, massively improved flash suppressor with a much reduced firing noise, and a lightened construction which is still strong, and reliable. The gun does however, lack long range accuracy due to the lowered efficiency of the Rep-tube design, though not to the extent of the MERA”V2”. This was generated in order to limit the energy reading given off by the weapon, while still retaining some element of stopping power. This gun is the preferred gun of the Talon SpecOps.

Some terms you'll need to know to get my descriptions:

Spatial Modifier targeting system: The Spatial Modifier Targeting System (SMT) is a unique piece of Eshirian technology, allowing pin-point precision of energy weapons at extremely long ranges. Once again, while the concept of the system is simple, it opens the door to many possibilities. What the SMT does, is bend space, or more specifically, the space along the path of an energy blast. This allows the energy beam to be maneuvered exactly like a missile. The implications of this are very clear, and shouldn’t require any further explanation. The only issue is that the energy blast will last only as long as its power rating. The less powerful the energy, the shorter lived the “Energy Missile”


Rep-tube: A replicator tube. In firearms, and other projectile based weaponry, the Rep tube is the barrel of the gun. It replicates the projectile that is about to be fired inside it rather than loading a new round mechanically. The Replicator system is a high speed matter energy converter that can load new rounds at a slightly higher speed than the mechanical process, offering a slightly increased fate of fire. As the basic systems of the Replicator are geared toward energy manipulation, the replicator systems can also be switched over to handle the multi-phasic energy used by standard ES energy weaponry, allowing one gun to fire both typical bullets (To be referred here forth, as “Material Rounds”.), in addition to firing energy blasts. Rep tubes come in many sizes, and can be large enough replicate cannon rounds for a ship, missiles for a fighter, or small enough for a infantry rocket launcher, or a bullet for a hand gun, all while still being able to fire energy rounds. The Rep-tube lightens the load for a soldier on the field, and considerably reduces the strain on the supply chain. As new types of bullets are developed, their design can simply be transmitted to the guns onboard computer, and replicated on the spot, right inside the gun, without having to wait for standard supply ships to physically move the new ammo to the troops. Basically fires material, and MP rounds with the same barrel.

Multi-Phasic Energy (MP Energy) Guns: Eshirian weapons utilize Multi-Phasic Energy. Multi-Phasic energy (To be referred here forth, as MP) used in ES energy based weaponry is essentially an unstable energy wavelength that is devastating in high concentrations. MP guns use Rep-tubes and are therefore capable of firing MP rounds, or regular material rounds.)

Meanwhile, in the East China Sea-

She was moving fast. The Tun Mi Lung was hungry, looking for prey. It had been to the Island the humans called "Uji-Gunto," but had found nothing of worth but a place to rest. Amazingly, with all of their technology, they did not get her then, when they had the opportunity. Instead, it seemed the arrogant fleshbags waited for her to come to them.

Just like when She first resisted the building of a "mini-mall" on her nest. They killed her young, using that damned belching fire (flamers) and those clouds (tear gas). They had waited, sadistically, for her to come in and find the sight, so they could kill her once and for all. She had done what they asked, she decided to fight back.

Then, they had those machines.....those big machines that looked like men and threw projectiles. She summoned a storm, natural response, to kill them. The result was justice; the storm scattered their precious machines and threw many men to the winds.

It was then she decided to take revenge. She had to save her fellow Tun Mi Lung from the depredations of Man. Thus, she went on her way, on the hunt. Like the memories of that Distant Time where Dragons ruled the Earth that seemed to emerge in her genetic memory, she would bring sorrow to Men. Sorrow that she had felt. Sorrow that would rise once more.

She thought this as She moved on the sea floor at high speeds, she had learned to do this to avoid the mechanical birds the Humans made, that brought those projectiles and that stinging rain that they dispensed from thin tubes that spun. She moved at rapid speeds, past the island of "Koshiki," and then entering a major body of water, that had many boats on it. This was the body the humans called the "Amakusa Nada." She decided to eat, she was hungry.

She stopped to take a look. Peering Her head out of the water, she saw a large collection of boats. She did what She did best next. She went under, and waved her tail, collecting chi. Soon, a large, ominous cloud emerged. She sensed the panic the humans in their little boats felt. They frantically tried to move, puttering their filthy motors at High Power and hoisting their sails, or rowing. She saw men frantically working to escape the storm that had now come out of nowhere. She saw the waves kick up, and she heard the winds begin to howl.....

She uped the ante, soon enough. Focusing more chi, She began to increase the ferocity of the storm. Thunder began to emerge, sheets of rain fell like stones down a hill and the waves that sloshed the boats soon began to toss them and the winds began to whip, tearing sails like a hot knife through butter. Ships began to break up, people in those orange floating things soon took their chances on the ocean.

After a bit, She moved in, jaws open and chi powers moving the survivors to her. What happened next, well, it's obvious enough, I might not need to describe it here.

After that, She licked her chops, and moved into an underwater cave. Resting for a bit to get her strength, she decided to raid another human settlement. Peering her head out once more, she saw a sign that read in Japanese, "Nomozaki."

How She learned basic Kanji and Hiragana is a mystery. It might have been all those raids, maybe something from genetic memory. But, she decided to move in, and teach the locals not to mess with their betters.

Afterwards, Japanese Maritime Safety Agency Ships moved to clean up. One of them spotted the creature moving to Nomozaki. It didn't take long for the news to break out as a result.....

He marked the position on the map as he was talking. Eventually he hung up, and said, "Okay boys and girls, 'Banshee' has been busy, hurting fishermen in the Asakusa Nada. It seemed that out of 500 fishermen out that day, only 25 were left to tell their stories. He's been spotted moving towards Nomozaki, the Mayor has mobilized the Police and had ordered all surviving fishermen to come in, and has closed the harbor, and ordered a mandatory evacuation. Bastard's ETA is about three, two hours."

He then continued: "The pattern looks to be dangerously similar to the other course of events; he'll probably summon a storm, usually of Category 3 levels, to soften up the local defenses, he should move in, using his powers to send tsunamis and other cataclysms onto the target before proceeding to feast on the populace below. He'll then run away as quickly as he came."

He then left a note for the Hunter from Mini Miehm, and then checked outside to make sure nothing was missing before gunning the engine. He then said, "Ms. Rei, you'll want to use your car now. Meet us outside of Nomozaki, we'll be near a Green Mitsubishi, that Shinjumi's car."

Talmadge then said, "Okay guys, gals, buckle up. We're going on the ride of a lifetime."

Talmadge then put on some tunes-in this case, Steppenwolf's "Born to Be Wild." As the sound of classic rock filled the RV, Talmadge proceeded to move out, driving across the rural roads with a sense of restrained bravado.

He began to slow down, as the evidence of their quarry's appearance showed itself. Entire families, school classes, and groups of elderly were on buses, cars, vans, whatever motor transport they could get, with every worldly possession that could be lifted by human hands, moving to the north on the road next to them. On the road they were on, ex-Red Army Spartan Tanks, Daltrey Mobile Suits, and trucks full of armed policemen and People's Militia were moving alongside them in an ordered dash to aid the city. Komsomol I fighters and Seminole Gunship aircraft could be seen overhead, providing escort. The army looked strong, but Talmadge could sense that this force would crumble, like all the others.

He drove until a green Mitsubishi flagged him down. He said, "That's Shinjumi."

Pulling off of the highway, and some 5km outside of town, Talmadge parked the RV, and got out. A tall, giant of a man stepped out of the Mitsubishi, and they shook hands, with Talmadge yelling, "Sojiro! Good to see you!"

Sojiro said, "Ah yes, Alex. Hello. There's not much time. I spoke with the Division Commander, he said he can let you in, though he is skeptical of your chances."

Sojiro said, "Well, the Army plans to fortify the city, placing a trap in the center of the town using high explosives and napalm, with a battalion as bait. He will position forces near the zone, mainly the heavier units. When the creature enters the trap, the bulk wil move in, and finish it off. You will be backup."

Talmadge said, with a frown, "That's condescending, don't ya think?"

Sojiro said, "Well, like you said, Typical Army. They don't learn. Anyway, the creature is set to arrive in an hour; Engineers are rigging up the explosives now. In all likelihood, it probably won't work, the creature is too smart. If it does get caught, its a frickin' Typhoon Dragon, it'll summon a storm and put itself out! Anyway, you better get going. Good luck."

He pinned his pass, and grabbed his stuff, putting into a very functional backpack.

He then pulled out his lasgun and said, "Okay then, let's go."

A press bus then pulled up, Sojiro was onboard. He beckoned the others to get on, and get moving.....Talmadge got on soon enough, with his stuff.

"Alright." Vangu grabbed his pack and gear and headed on the bus, still keeping the pass at arm's length.

He just gets in, he already has everything he needs for this hunt.

"Alright." Vangu grabbed his pack and gear and headed on the bus, still keeping the pass at arm's length.

Talmadge got seats for him and the rest of the Team, a bundle of seats next to a pretty TV Reporter and a camera crew, from NHK.

The Pretty Reporter turned to Talmadge and said, "You are the American?"

Talmadge said, "Yes ma'am. I'm here to hunt the dragon."

The Reporter then smiled and said, "Shimura Riho, reporter for NHK News. This is my crew. Mind if I do some interviewing?"

Talmadge said, "Is my crew included?"

Riho said, "Yes, though you will be the centerpiece. This is THE news story of the year, y'know. People are, how you say, abuzz with gossip and talk?"

Talmadge said, "Something like that."

Talmadge waited for the other person to get on the bus....he leaned out and said, "Come on Rei!"

Rei twitched her head slightly, and small beep sounded once. Outside the trailer, a small hover transport materialized. Suddenly, aloud whine of its engines could be heard, as the noise filters from the ship's stealth mode throttled down. Wind blew hard out from under the transport, and whipped Rei's hair around as she put on her helmet near the vehicle.. The ship was as sleek as a finely sharpened blade, and had very few protrusions from its exterior. The highly polished hull glistened as the shaded canopy retracted in anticipation of its pilot.

"That's my ride. I'll follow you guys from above." Rei said as she walked over.

"Consider it air support when you need it."

"Pass? What? Fuck it."

He just gets in, he already has everything he needs for this hunt.

Talmadge greeted Darian as he sat down, saying, "Ah yes, you are Darian Firkin k'Valdemar k'Vala, I presume? Forgive me for the incident in the RV, I was busy managing a few things. Rei gave a thumbs up, and flew into the cockpit. The canopy closed, and through a small loudspeaker not visible on the ship, replied. "No worries. I'll try to leave a little dragon for ya."

A slight chuckle followed, and the loudspeaker clicked off.

"Well then, I guess we better be ready. I think I can handle that much, I hope..."

Talmadge said, smiling, "I'm ready, I'll say this much."

Rei gave a thumbs up, and flew into the cockpit. The canopy closed, and through a small loudspeaker not visible on the ship, replied. "No worries. I'll try to leave a little dragon for ya."

A slight chuckle followed, and the loudspeaker clicked off.

Talmadge looked at the ship, and said, "Attagirl."

The bus soon stopped at a military checkpoint, after the driver showed his pass, he drove into the town of Nomozaki itself.

The town seemed to look like a ghost town now, the streets were empty and there was a dearth of cars and, well, everything. The streets had an eerie calm......broken occasionally by the sound of Military vehicles, other reporters reporting in any number of languages, and Engineers working to install the explosives, frantically hammering and wiring things....

The bus parked in the zone marked for Asahi Shimbun and NHK. Talmadge got off, and motioned for the others to follow.

Darian got off and followed, he was just going to wait for his time to come, until then he would let others lead the way.

Vangu inserted the clips into both weapons as he disembarked. He then pinned the pass to his pack and followed Talmadge.

The ship was only hovering about 20 meters off the ground, while it followed the RV. The canopy opened, and Rei jumped out from that height.

She clicked the safety off her rifle, and let the first shot charge up from a regular blast into a literal anti-armour round. She decided that with her Stealth training, she was better off as a sniper. She motioned to Tal where she was headed, then paused.

"Shouldn't we set our Com's to the same frequency or something?" She asked the others.

Rei let out a small sigh, "I've got one thanks. But it's not so much the dragon, but the military. I don't really want them involved in this. Especially after they made it so clear that they don't really have plans for us being here."

My weapons you ask are simple; an enchanted sword and my sorcery that's powerful enough to destroy a dragon and other things but I won't go into that. Vangu took up a nearby position and got ready for the dragon.

It took a while, but She made it to Nomozaki. She stayed underwater, planning her attack, contemplating Her moves out of sight of the boats that would surely bring death.

She decided to do a quick survey. Mustering all of her chi, she leaped out of the water, and climbed to a higher altitude, zooming over, doing loop-de-loops and curving back and forth with a ferocious grace.

At the city center, the Militia was ordered not to fire. The reaction was groans and moans, but the Officers told them to keep quiet. The AA guns wouldn't bark, nobody would fire, until the monster flew low enough over the area rigged with enough TNT and Napalm, firing upwards, to incinerate the beast, hopefully.

In the meantime, they watched it dance....

"I've got a point a few hundred yards from your position. My flight's on call if you guys need it. I'm mainly a ground hunter myself, so the car's only got your basic MP cannons. Keep that in mind. Over."

Talmadge replied, "Got it. Our quarry's doing a dance now, keep an eye on him...."

Talmadge raised his Lasgun, and powered it up. He sighted the Creature through his scope, mumbling to himself, "Alright you bastard. What're gonna do now."

Vangu tapped the command to set the charge, looked out for the dragon and got ready.

She did something alright. She noticed the Humans were not firing. She decided to move in for a closer look. There was a concentration of them, as if they had opted to sacrifice themselves, like in the Olden Times of genetic memory. Well, they should've done that sooner. Besides, they had weapons raised, as if they were going to attack.

She didn't understand this at all. Why were the Humans doing this? Why not run in fear, like they usually did?

She decided to make a few more passes over them, and then moved in to attack the concentration. Flying majestically, the Humans indeed stood like stone, unwavering. This made Her really mad. Now they were insulting Her!

She reeled back, and spat a stream of sheng chi at the concentration below.

The Humans on the ground were hit with the full force of the attack. Normally, sheng chi would give life. However, it seemed in this case to be quite deadly, with humans left and right being hit and flung by the shockwave and some getting blown to bits outright. They began to return fire with their weapons, making Her move its deadly wave around, spreading its wave.

She then noticed the other units moved in, the Big Men and the machines and the fake birds (aircraft) moved in to aid their comrades. They fired those damned weapons at her. She was hit all over, she moved back, flinging sheng chi at the enemy. Then, they used Napalm.

She was engulfed by the fire, and now, she was really angry. She moved quickly back to the sea, summoning storms to put her out and slow the enemy. The storms did some work, especially with the Birds, but they kept coming.

She soon entered the water. The fire was what killed her Young. Now, they had tried to use it on Her. Out of fear and loathing, she began to summon as many storms as possible, to prevent them from using the fire on her again.

Talmadge began noticing the sky turning an ominous black. The winds began to pick up quickly, rain began to fall in sheets.

He radioed the rest, "Get ready boys and girls, storms' comin'."

Vangu quickly slid into his combat suit and when the first rain drops began to fall, touched a small button which generated a 'rain-shield' keeping him and his gear dry.

Talmadge put on an urban camo rain slicker. By now, the winds were picking up and trees were being bent wildly, and the rain was falling much more heavily, not quite in buckets, but getting close.

Thunderclaps could be heard, and the occasional lightning strike began to hit the Daltrey suits. Visibility was beginning to be reduced, but Talamdge could see the Creature working his deadly magic.

She saw a wave of Human machines, flyers, coming in. Flying with bravado amongst the storms that came in, She admired them for that. But She also knew that was not usually a good thing when they came.

So, she began focusing her chi, increasing the intensity of the storms already in the area. Sure enough, the winds howled like hungry wolves, and the sea kicked up, and began to batter at the tsunami gates below, and the rain fell in bucketfuls, visibly running down the streets of the settlement and taking objects with the flow. The flyers were shaking, and then she pushed a few thunder cells overhead for good measure, sending lightning bolts at the flyers until they turned back or fell.

She then acted before they could send any more, and sent the thunder cells over the city, causing lightning to hit random structures and Big Men and little machines alike. She saw some of the Human soldiers running, some of the Big Men's chests burst, and sent their hearts into the distance (OOC: Or, the pilots ejected, as everybody is trying to retreat at this point). Some tried to stand their ground, She moved in to try and take them out.

As She flew in, She passed over the hunter's positions.....

She turned in the direction of the blast. Scanning around, She spotted Rei and zoomed towards her.....

Vangu had been watching the dragon and leading his shot. As it turned, it exposed it's entire side. He aimed, "Come-on ya giant lizard." With a tap to the trigger he fired one of the pulsar 'darts' at the beast. It'd be interesting to see how much electrical shock it could take, as one 'dart' could bring down the might african bull elephant.

She convulsed again, and emitted a loud roar at the pain of having suffered a major head wound, and now a major hit to the side. She began turning in Vangu's direction, and began to try and shift a storm cloud over him....

....but then, Talmadge fired off a shot from his lasgun at Her side, at maximum power. The kickback felt like a light punch, but the heat generated felt like he just put his armpit on a hot stove. Still, the shot made it, now She felt the pain again and yelled once more. She soon began whipping her tail on the ground in pain and began spitting sheng chi everywhere.....

It was just the chance Rei was waiting for. She charged up another shot, this time, taking care to go as close to the red line as possible this time.

"EAT THIS!" Rei shouted as she aimed right at it's head again.

Vangu had to roll to the side as one of the blasts impacted the building he was on. As it crumpled he stood and leapt to the ground, rolling and brought the rifle back up and fired at the underside of the beast.

It was just the chance Rei was waiting for. She charged up another shot, this time, taking care to go as close to the red line as possible this time.

"EAT THIS!" Rei shouted as she aimed right at it's head again.

She felt another blow to the head, this time, she felt a wet sensation....like blood. Oh no! Those bastards! They made Her bleed!

Talmadge took advantage of the creature's daze, and began loosing a series of charged sniper shots, aimed at her head, screaming, "Get some!"

She began to fly high into the sky, and then, doing a twirl, began to kick up the already fierce winds around the hunters and threw in a few thunderclouds for good measure, before charging back downward, spitting sheng chi. They had damaged Her, Her head was very badly wounded, but Her strength was nowhere near gone.....

Rei took the opportunity to move her position. She shoved her tracker into her pocket, and made a run for the stairway on the other edge of the roof.

She remotely positioned her ship a bit father away from the scene. The vessel's puny guns weren't going to help very much again this monster anyway...

Vangu had dashed into a sheltered alleyway as the beast raged.

On her way down the flight of stairs, Rei tried to get things organized. 5 years as a front line Talon operator wasn't to be wasted.

Over her Com. , she contacted the other members of the team. "Ok, maybe I underestimated this thing a little. We're definitely going to need an order of attack.

Rei pushed open the door at the bottom of the building. "We're going to have to lay down some fire on this thing. Get it angry. I've got a plan for it. Can you guys help me lure it down deeper into the city?"

He then got off of the roof, running down the stairs as the creature threw the mother of all temper tantrums outside. He ran to the building's lobby, and got out, running in search of a car or other auto.

He found one. Nestled in a nest of branches and fallen planters, an old newsvan was still there, its engine puttering away and its driver very much dead. He said, "Forgive me," opened the door, and got his lightsaber out, cutting the branch and throwing the corpse out. "Good thing my rain slicker's on," he thought, as he took the driver's seat, by now stained with all sorts of fluids.

He made a u-turn and said, "This is Talmadge. I'm gonna try to lure the bastard deeper into the city. Look for a crazy a**hole in a news van, over."

He gunned the engine, driving towards the deeper parts of the city. He made sure to fire a shot at the beast before moving. He fired, deliberately missing anything to get its attention before driving off....

She saw the lasgun shot as it zoomed by her head and flew into the ether. She turned in its direction, and saw the van driving away. So, they wanted to play hide and seek with their betters now? Their resolve must be going.

She began speeding in hot pursuit of the van, focusing storm cells over the van's path and spitting sheng chi at it. All the while, the van swerved, but whoever was driving it was a steady driver, he refused to yield as he led Her deeper into the city......

Vangu headed out following the dragon. Unfortunately for someone on foot trying to track two moving objects in a foreign city, that's been trashed, it can get pretty hard.

"So what's the plan you guys got?" He asked on the comm.

Darian just waited, he figured tht his opportunity would come soon enough, Kuari was ready for this, so was he.

Rei directed a message towards Vangu, "I've gone over it with Talmadge, we're going to bring down the city on top of the dragon. Tal's got the first part of the plan moving, he's got the thing following him. I'm going to need your help in distracting him. Either that, or you could help set some charges."

"I'll help keep it occupied." Vangu replied as he continued heading after the dragon.

"Roger that." Rei replied coolly.
{Looks like I've got this job all to my self.} Thought Rei as she approached the first building she scouted out to demolish.

Darian decided that staying away from the city center was a good idea for now, in fact, staying in the outskirts may be the best idea for now.

Talmadge drove faster, seeing the damned thing getting closer in his mirrors. He was inside the city center now, the buildings were getting tall, and the creature's mobility was limited severely.

"That f**ker has two options now," he rationalized. "He can either fly upwards, or he can go lower, and follow me....putting himself at risk of death by crumbling building. Pray he goes for the second option."

She was getting frustrated now. The head wound had begun to make Her dazed for want of blood, the various bruising wounds on her sides and head were tender and sore. The pain was making Her lose her concentration, and she was not seeing well.....

She decided to move downward, seeing as how her prey was still moving. The buildings around Her made it harder for Her to move, She found that any sort of excessive side movement caused Her to bump into the buildings, making her wounds worse. A pole of some kind even got stuck in Her side, causing great pain. She screamed, yet refused to yield. She would be damned if that Human got away.

She eventually leveled out at street level, making Her form ramrod-straight to avoid hitting anything. She moved the storms She was making, which were by now getting harder to control due to Her weakened condition, down to Her level, flooding the streets with fog and heavy whirlwinds.......

Talmadge said, broadcasting on the Comms, "This is Talmadge. I've got him in the city center, he's down low, chasing me at street level, motherf**ker's got storms here down at my level kicking things about, f**king up my vision. DO SOMETHING!"

Vangu got onto the same street the dragon was chasing Talmadge down. He took careful aim and fired at the dragon with the pulsar rifle. "Let's see how it reacts to getting spiked in the tail." He thought with a grin.

"Just a little bit farther..." Rei looked out to the on coming van through her visor, now magnifying the tiny car. The van looked like an ant compared to the behemoth barreling down on top of him.

"Now!" Rei said loudly. She flicked a switch, and suddenly, a large fireball erupted in front of the dragon...

(OOC: Note: This is a two stage explosion. The first blast is supposed to get her to stop.)

"Just a little bit farther..." Rei looked out to the on coming van through her visor, now magnifying the tiny car. The van looked like an ant compared to the behemoth barreling down on top of him.

"Now!" Rei said loudly. She flicked a switch, and suddenly, a large fireball erupted in front of the dragon...

(OOC: Note: This is a two stage explosion. The first blast is supposed to get her to stop.)

She stopped, wincing away from the fireball and feeling the sting of the hit from the person behind Her, who shot Her in the most cowardly manner.

She stopped and turned to face the man who shot Her. She raised her claws, seeing as how She had little strength for sheng chi, and tried to charge at the man....

(OOC: The way this is rigged, she's not moving far, so feel free to do the second explosion).

Talmadge, sensing the point of the explosions, drove of as quickly as possible to escape the second one, which would surely follow.

Vangu fired another pulsar round at the dragon's snout, turned and dashed into a alleyway, rapidly emerging on the next street over.

A thunderous barrage of flames and debris poured down upon the terrible beast.

"RAAAAAHHH!" Cried our Rei as the second set of detonations caused the nearby buildings to collapse down on the twisting demon of an animal.

The explosions were large enough to level a few city blocks. Quasar charges. Courtesy of the black market military outlet...

She saw the buildings tumble onto her, and roared and tried to run. But it was too late, for she was engulfed in a sea of rubble.

She frantically treid to break free, but the attack had done grave damage to Her. She coudl barely move, and She felt herself getting tired out...

Talmadge said, at the sight of the explosions, "Now, to finish this sucker off."

He drove back to the site, which was now a heap of rubble with the creature underneath, struggling against previous injuries and the sheer weight and mass of the mess to get out.

He got out, and said on Comms, "Okay, who want's to finish this f**ker off?"

(OOC: Just as a notice. I'm going to pretty much let my character get hurt. This beast is too powerful to let a few hunters ger the better of her...)

Rei watched with twisted satisfaction as the creature squirmed in desperation and pain. She started to feel overconfident however...

"This bitch ain't as smart as they make her out to be." She said, as she started to move in a bit.

(OOC: The idea is that when your monster makes it out, and bursts out from the wreckage, Rei gets hit by a large piece of debris, and, well, I'm working on the rest.)

Rei watched with twisted satisfaction as the creature squirmed in desperation and pain. She started to feel overconfident however...

"This bitch ain't as smart as they make her out to be." She said, as she started to move in a bit.

(OOC: The idea is that when your monster makes it out, and bursts out from the wreckage, Rei gets hit by a large piece of debris, and, well, I'm working on the rest.)

She saw the hunters coming in. Desperate for any sort of way out, She roared, and summoned all of Her sheng chi and all of Her weather control powers to force her way out, in a fantastic shower of debris, which flew everywhere.

She flew into the air, majestic once more. She roared and stared down at the hunters, and began to move away as fast as possible....

Talmadge ducked and covered his head, and barely survived the breakout. He looked, and some of the others were not so lucky, however......

One large fragment flew in and slammed into Rei squarely in the head, knocking her right off her feet. The sound of shattered plastic and glass could be heard as shards of her visor fell away.

There was no sound other than a sickening thud of Rei's body collapsing onto the ground.

Vangu saw the dragon explode up and wing it's way out, but only in his periferal(sp) vision. His attention was more focused on Rei. Seeing her get hit by the hunk of rubble, he dashed forward in an attempt to catch her.

As she thudded to the ground, he reached her and after removing her broken helm, he began looking for signs of damage, broken nose, concusion ect.

Darian had gotten himself far enough away that he was safe from the blast, and the dragons escape, now he unlimbered his gun and drew a bead on the dragons chest area, blasting out a pair of rounds in as many seconds.

(OOC: Alright, I'm out for now. Rei's pretty much going to be in you guy's care for the time being until I deem that it's the rigt time for her to wake up. I'll list some injuries, and that'll be about it for now.)

IC:

Rei still lay limp in Vangu's arms. Her head was covered with blood. She was still alive, thanks partially to the inertial dampers in her suit, but mainly because of her helmet.

Rei's suit monitored vitals, and immediately began to administer chemicals that would put Rei in a state of almost suspended animation. Her body functions began to slow down to give time for people to help her.

Vangu pulled out a sterile cloth out of a sealed package to clean the blood. He found the cuts, as well as the few shards of plastic/glass. The cuts he treated with a goo, which was a sterilizer and clotting agent, followed by an application of synth-skin. The shards of glass/plastic were removed, the cuts caused flushed with a compound that ate inorganic material but ignored organics. Once the compound finished fizzing, he washed it out and treated them as normal cuts.

He then pulled out a small device about the size of a quarter, and three time as thick, which he lightly pressed to her forehead. It would moniter brain-activity, to make sure there was no neurological damage.

Lastly he removed the helmet and pulled out another device, about the size of a pager to look for bone breakages.

By now, Her will to live and Her will to fight was one of the few things in her favor. The shots to the chest were another blow that she could barely sustain, and She began to fly lower in the sky and more wildly, the pain very much taking its toll, and burns and bleeding becoming evident. She decided to keep moving, otherwise the Humans would have a chance to kill her.

She flew to the sea, hoping to find safety in its embrace....

Talmadge said, "Damnit, its getting away! DAMNIT!" He composed himself as best as possible, to try and keep himself together and focus on killing the beast, which he knew was greatly wounded from this event-the monster's return flight to the ocean had proven that.

He said, "Okay, what will happen to Rei? What's her status?"

"A numerous lacerations, possibly, but unlikely a concussion. No sign of a facture, yet." Vangu replied, "She's been placed in SA, which I'm guessing is part of her suit's function." He then took a restoritive drug, designed to aid in healing, beared her arm and slipped the needle into the vein.

"Got a full field kit, so right now, no." Vangu replied as he continued to scan Rei's head for a fracture.

Rei lay unconscious. All in all, her injuries would not end her life, especially with the excellent care Vangu gave her. She'd definitely have to repay him when she recovered...somehow...

Rei's own mind began to asses the damage. While Vangu's scanners might not have been able to detect it, Rei's mind was dealing with incredible agony, as it tried its hardest to stay in the realm of the living. Eshirians all had a limited Psi ability, bred over the centuries. This ability meant that they did have generally strong minds, however, it was taxing Rei's mind great effort not to succumb to the pain. The suit's Suspension feature was a thankful addition that might have very well saved Rei's very being.

(OOC: I've decided I'll have Rei wake up on her own around the time you guys make your second attack. Oh, and Theo, there's only some minimal cracking in one area of the skull. It was kind of an after thought, so its not in the IC part.)

The brain activity scanner began beeping, registering unusual patterns. He took another needle, filled it with a generalized pain killer which he injected into Rei's arm. The scanner didn't pick-up any fracture lines.

"Hey, Talmudge, it's safe to move Rei. She's good to move if you want to continue the hunt." Vangu said into the comm.

Talmadge said, "Well, at this point, we have to. Our quarry is gravely damaged, and we have to find him soon, unless we want that thing to mess up the rest of Kyushu. At this point, we have to get out of the city. Get her into the news van."

Talmadge then called Darian, saying, "This is Talmadge. We're moving out, over."

Vangu picked Rei up, carrying her in both arms, making sure to support her head as he carried her to the van.

Talmadge fired up the van, and provided Rei with a stable surface to lay on. He then said, "Darian, we'll be going to your position, over," on comms.

Vangu made sure Rei was secure, so she wouldn't be tossed around, and continued to moniter her to make sure she was alright.

Talmadge then drove the van to Darian's position, navigating around the mess left by the now dissipating storms. Junk was everywhere, cars, debris, plants, whatnot, clogged the streets, making it a nightmare to drive in.

OOC: Yup. I intend to have a climactic battle on the seas near Kyushu, this time, using a Coast Guard Vessel. The dragon is driven to land, and is eventually killed there.

OOC: At least two, three days until I'll have Talmadge call Sojiro, who will then say the military has warmed to the Hunters, and is willing to provide all the resources they need for their mission. Talmadge will rent the ship, and crew, and then go out near the coast, to meet the dragon.

By now, the van had made it out of the necropolis, barely moving and low on gas. In fact, by the time it made it back to the site of Talmadge's RV, the van went kaput, the engine dying and the gas meter reading "Empty."

Talmadge got out, and entered the RV. Wolfing down some beef jerky, he then made a phone call to Sojiro, asking him what the situation was. He got this response.

"Listen, Al, the authorities have warmed up to you, seeing as how they suffered a massive defeat at the hands of a dragon, of all things. They're willing to provide any and all needed resources for deputization."

Talmadge replied, "Well, I'll need a Maritime Safety Agency cutter, two actually, that's all. I wanna chase this beast onto the sea."

Sojiro said, "Well, good luck with that. You seem to have, what is the American term, f**ked it up severely? Alas, it still lives. It has been detected moving west-northwest, 50 kilometers off of Nagasaki."

Talmadge said, "Thanks. How could they tell?"

Sojiro said, "Well, some guys in a plane noticed a suspicious shape in the sea below. Evidently, your quarry is weak enough that it can't summon its screen."

Talmadge, smiling, said, "Understood. Bye."

Talmadge hung up, then left the RV and said to the team members in the van, "Okay, here's what happens. We're going to go to Nagasaki, there, we'll be given two Maritime Safety Agency boats to use in our mission, understood?"

He then got inside the RV, and set up a bed for Rei. He then turned on the engine, and then directed Vangu to come inside with Rei, pointing to the bed.

"Ugh..." Rei began to awaken in the bed. Her eyes were still closed, but her face was twisted up in a frown. She brought her hand to her head, and tried to sit up, but she found that her sense of balance was still off, and decided it best to stay down for the moment. "Guys? ... Van?" Rei asked. Her eyes were still shut, and brought up her switched the hand on her head, and tried to sit up again. This time, using her other arm to support her, she weakly tried to open her eyes. "Ugh, what happened?"

(OOC: I know she's technically in the bed yet, and the timing is off, from what I said, but, just trying to drive this thing along.)

They were somewhat less functional than the helmet overall, but all Rei needed was a little help to keep the rain out of her eyes, and some assurance from the targetting computer, that linked to the goggles display. She slid them on her head, but left them up over her forehead for now. She pushed her hair back, and then pushed a button on her arm's control pad. "Can't forget my ship." she said to Vangu with a grin. She looked at him for a bit, and then looked at the others, before looking back. She reached up, and felt the device on her head that Vangu had put there earlier. "That yours?" She asked.

"Ya, sorry about forgetting that. It's designed to moniter brain activity, wanted to make sure no brain damage." He replied as he pried the disk off. "So are you alright?" He asked as he slid the disk back into his pack.

My thoughts are, She's a pretty confident type of person, so she might try something. But then again, they don't really know each other well enough, and she's more of the tough girl type so she wouldn't try anything big, and definitely doesn't fall for people right off.

I'm trying to create a mood of some distant, or rather well concealed tension, but, bleh, I'm a bit lost. I'm thinking that she might say thanks, give him a casual...ish, kiss on the cheek and then just kind look down, with a smile, glance up, wait a bit, and then just kind of get up, and walk away.

The docks were jammed with well wishers, and the two Maritime Safety Ships were visible in the horizon. Talamadge saw they were fully crewed, all hands were aboard. They had heavy lascannons, a plasma gun, and a 55mm Railcannon, usually found on Kurosawa Support Armor.

He parked the RV, and got out. Sojiro and the Captains of the two ships were awaiting him, bows were exchanged and business was conducted.

Sojiro said, "Commanders 1st class Homma and Ayase. They are assigned to you. Their ships, the L-1 and L-2 are assigned to you. Use them well."

Sojiro said, "Oh, and you and your team are for now, honorary Captains. They are obliged to obey your instructions."

Talmadge said, with some hesitation, "Gee, thanks Sojiro."

He then went into the RV, and got his gear, before yelling to the team, "OKay guys, were going on the L-1! Follow me!"

He then walked to the ship, and all the men saluted him and stayed that way for the others.....

She only had social orientation after leaving the Talon Forces a 8 years ago. Since then, she had plenty of other dealing with countless other people, so she wasn't clueless as to what the situation between her and Vangu might be, but then again, it was still new ground she had never dealt with before. {I hope I didn't just rush into something without knowing it...} Rei thought to herself. In her thoughts, she kind of felt like she wanted Vangu nearby. If only to sort things out..

And some blood's been leaking towards the surface, aerial photos showed this, so we have a fix that way as well as using conventional means. Area around the spot has been sealed off, we're holding the area with occasional aircraft and boat watch."

Talmadge said, "Move out to the Restricted Zone. I want L-2 as a reserve to back us up. L-1 goes as close as possible. I want a boombox wired to the speakers on this ship, instead of yelling at snakeheads, you'll be blaring classic rock and heavy metal to lure this bastard out. Once he's out, tell your men to keep the ship moving in a circular pattern, to circle-strafe the monster. Pour all the fire you'll can, we'll do the same. Got it?"

Vangu checked ammo levels for the pulsar rifle and finding them more than satisfying(sp) he settled in to wait.

Rei walked into her own little area, and sat down. She set down her gun, pulled off her goggles, and tried to take a light nap before the coming dawn...(Of battle.) She laid her head on a side, tried to use her arm as pillow, and dozed off. Or at least, she tried...

Vangu fished out a thermo blanket from the bowels of his back and drapped it over Rei's shoulders as she dozed.

The ships moved into position, and sure enough, the area was marked off by aircraft and a few other ships. Talmadge said, "Tell the others to stand off at least 100 meters away, tell L-2 to hold at 50 meters. I don't want excess casualties."

Homma did as told, and the other ships and planes moved away, holding back. Talmadge then said, "Take us in, Number One."

The L-1 then moved onto the absolute edge of the zone itself, and Talamadge then said, "Okay, is the hookup ready?"

One of the petty officers onboard said, "Yes, sir."

Talmadge then hooked up a music player to the prepared connection, which would ensure access to the loudspeakers. He then said, "Okay. All hands in L-1 and L-2 to battle stations. Hunters, take appropriate positions. I'll cue up some music."

He then pushed a few buttons, and loud music began playing, with the heavy thumping of bass guitar soon being mixed with an aggressive percussion line and jazz organ, soon cascading into a cheer of "YEAH!" a few xylophone hits, and-

Once the humans had taste, now, thye had the nerve to give Her this music! She decided to silence it once and for all, and tell them to leave Her alone, in no uncertain terms.

She summoned her remaining strength, and shot up, jumping out of the water in a plume of water. She then howled, and moved over the boat, firing sheng chi down at it.

Talmadge then pulled out his railpistol, cut the music, and fired away at the beast. He yelled to the others, "Here we go!" The sailors fired away as well with their lasguns, using the dual lascannons onboard and one man even taking the railgun to the monster, firing one shot at its chest.

As the music blasted out over the water, and it truly blasted out over the wter, at the maximum volume of the suits speakers the music was almost physichal in its intensity; Kuari moved, that was to be his signal, swooping down on the dragon from out of the sun, wings tucked back and talons outstretched, no scream gave warning of his strike, nor did his silent wings tell of his arrival, he was silent as the dawn, and just as sudden, flaring his wings wide he swept in over the head of the dragon, raking the beast with his massive talons.

Darian would wait until Kuari had either broken off, or blinded the beast before he fired, he was not a good enough shot to avoid hitting a swirling bird the size of a man, good enough to hit it yes, good enough to avoid hitting it, no.

Vangu took a position guarding Rei as she woke up. He fired his rifle whenever he had a clear shot.
