I started an RP similar to this one awhile back and it was a complete success. So now I am starting another one, not in the ancient world of Rome and Greece, but in the midevil age this time. And to make sure that everyone understands the land layout, I will post what the "world" will be. It will be solely Europe. Feel free to join at anytime but the rules are as following:

1. No GM!(Can't stress this enough)
2. Don't advance too quickly, you can RP up to 2 years each day
3. No acts of god
4. You can RP being fantasy creatures such as elves and other things from LOTR and other midevil fantasy world creatures.
5. No tagging!
6. Have fun!

Just post where you will start and your borders, but don't have your borders too big.

EDIT: Here's a list of what's taken so far:

(OOC: I will take Sicily and Italy up to the Alps as my kingdom)

IC:

The Republic of Taledonia, which compromised of Italy and Sicily, was advncing well. The capitol city, Taledon, was still as great and magnificent as it had been when the great Taledonian Empire was alive. Many major cities still dotted the Kingdom and had paved highways connecting them, allowing good trade routes and fast movement of troops.

The population of the Kingdom was 500 000 inhabitants ruled by Emperor Kellerman who was decended from a long line of Kellermans who had ruled the old Empire since it's founding. The army was at 12 000 soldiers, the equivalent of 2 full legions, and the navy had a total of 80 galleys. At each of the 4 passes out of the Alps, a fort was constructed and a garrison of 2000 men stationed at each to prevent enemy armies from crossing into the Republic and attacking the lush cities and pillaging the thriving countryside.

-----IC:

The westernmost of Europe's nations, the Divine High Kingdom of Alcastania lay at the very tip of the continent, a nation bordering on the ocean and safeguarding the open sea as it tapered down to the mouth of the Mediterranean. Though Alcastania's military might had always been moderate at best, the nation did have its advantages - namely, vast stores of material wealth.

For the last century Alcastine galleons had plied the waters of the world, sailing to nations far and near to trade goods - more often than not selling a fortune in the nation's famous silk, be it in the form of garments, tapestries, or otherwise. Trade had brought wealth and prosperity to Alcastania, and with it had come culture. The city of Platania, capitol of the Divine High Kingdom, was one of the most enlightened cities in the world - home to great artists, poets, and musicians, including the famed pianist Juan Volpete.

Alcastania's last four years and seven months had seen prosperity under the rule of King Simeon IX. Rumors abounded, however, that much of the nation's governance was dictated from the great Basilica of St. Luis in Platania, home of the nation's spiritual leader, Archbishop Antoninus III...

the peasants of a village in East Anglia one day threw off the shackles of Monarchist oppresion, there radical views grew in number and soon they had all of Essex and Norfolk, half of Cambridge and parts of Suffolk and the revolt was not stopping, a Noble came back to the King and he told him that the Peasants demanded greater pay and lower working hours, the King laughed in the Nobles face and told him that the Peasants would get greater pay when the Warrior God takes their cold dead bodies, when the Noble left the Castle (in the capitol Kaduna) he felt bitter and decided that the peasants needed a suitable general, he therfore took the role of giving each peasant basic training, half were trained in close combat and given pitchforks, spades and other assorted objects, the other half were trained in long range skill, a few took rocks, others took slings and some had crossbows, but the best were given a stolen shipment of longbows, made from the finest witch wood, the peasants took up positions in a field in Suffolk

OOC: I call Spain. By the way, does fantasy stretch to magic? I want to RP something like Merlin or Nimue.

IC: The Elven Kingdom of Ageaol stretched over most but not all of Spain. They enjoyed communing with nature and rarely killed animals, even for food. They sent a scouting trip made up of 30 elves riding on horses. 10 were archers and 20 were lancers. They were sent west of the Kingdom to the lands of Portugal where it was rumored that another people lay.

Just rumored?

Visitors to the Portuguese- er, Alcastine countryside would be in for a surprise were they not expecting to find a kingdom. The countryside was dotted by neat little villages, many clustered around great castles, most of the forts bearing a faint Middle Eastern feel; Arabian-style minarets crowned the towers rather than conical peaks. The Elves of Ageaol had crossed into a region south of the city of Matros, nearing the border village of Gardania Sul, a town of perhaps 200 villagers.

Upon spotting the Elvish scouts a party of fifteen horsemen, five with longbows and ten in elegant armor and bearing sheathed swords and high-plumed helms, rode briskly along the immaculately paved highway towards the strangers. Their leader was a tall man with a curled black moustache, a white surcoat accented by a green cross worn over his armor. His helm lacked a visor but bore a fierce noseguard and strong cheekpieces.

"I say, good morrow to thee, strangers!" called the leader in a rich and rather melodious voice. "I ask thee kindly, what business hast thy party in the Divine High Kingdom of Alcastine?"

Meet the Border Patrol.

King Kanden arrived in Suffolk with his banner held high, the army was made up of hardcore elite soldiers all with the Kadun Flag on their chest, Kandens own flag of his rich noble heritage was held on a golden banner pole, several other nights held their flags on other less ornate banner poles, in comparrison the ranks of the peasant army were rag-tag they had been ordered into groups but stll people were fidgiting and could not keep formation for very long, fortunantly the Knight Kendwin was on their side or this battle would be a massacre, it was already common knowledge that the peasants could not win, but what they could do is hope for change, a scout had ventured too close to the peasant army and he had been spotted by the crossbowmen, the scout managed to flee before he was killed, after a tense half hour the Kingsmen began to move closer, they stopped less than 100 foot away from the peasants and suddenly the skys went dark as field of arrows flew into the peasant ranks hundreds collapsed and Kendwin was among them, an arrow had penetrated his helmet, the peasants now began to run in different directions, some decided that a head on charge would be best, others chose to flee to the nearby Motte, and some of the archers decided that they would get into range and attempt to take down as many of the Kings men as possible, those that fought died, and the nearby Motte was sieged for 2 days before the peasants surrendered, a hundred of the peasants were executed for being the ringleaders, the other peasants were put back to work with severely reduced pay, in the whole battle the Kings army suffered no casualties, the battle now remained in the peoples mind, they saw the battle as the butt of all jokes.

OOC Right, taking Southern France that goes to about Paris in the North.

IC The Kingdom of Valshare, some would say it was a mess, some would be right. In a nutshell, their was no unified power. Sure, their was the Monarchy, but they where only held in place by the weakest of threads. An Old man stood at their head, with no sons and only one daughter, the Nation was on the verge of civil war, well, in all honesty, it already was.

Barons fought each other, their own armies fighting to win their lord the upper hand. The people fought like Wild fire, for there would be one ruler, although none knew who. None that was, except the Princess Maria.

"Father, let me!" She said, her long red hair tied to one side. At sixteen, none expected anything of her, she was considered a Stepping stone to the throne by most of the lords. "You know my plan will work, it will unife the nation forever, nothing will stop us once we put this plan into motion."

"Daughter" The old man said in a deep weezy voice. "I can't, if I die, then you will be left by yourself."

"Father, you know That is not true, Charlion and Junive are in command of the armed forces, Maquiel is in command of the Economy. I could do it very easily if you would just let the plan go into motion." She looked at her father pledingly.

"Very well, it shall be done tonight, before the Desise becomes apparent, I wish you the best Daughter."

"And my The Gods Guide your soul." She wispered, before leaving the room. Valshare would once more be united.

IC:

The Republic had grown a bit larger, the population had grown by 38 people, but the Republic was nowhere near the past glory of Taledonia, the great empire that spanded the entire medditereanian sea and most of Europe. The plague that had weakened the empire so that the barbarian scum could come in and destroy the great empire was still feared, but measures were taken to ensure that it didn't happen again. Buildings such as aqueducts, public baths, sewers and more were constructed; or the ones still standing from the destroyed empire were repaired.

The Imperial Palace in the capitol, Taledon, was repaired and looked as glroious as ever, but it didn't represent the same might and glory it once had. Emperor Kellerman, wishing to rise to the same level as his great anscestors, was determind to ressurect the old empire. In a few years, his army would be ready, and the world would once again see troops pouring out of the Alps, bringing peace, law and order with them in their glorious campaigns.

The military still practised the old ways. The men organised into self contained legions of about 6 000 troops each. The legionaries also carried the large tower shields made of wood and iron which had served them well in the past; they still carried the pilum , javelins specially created so that the end would snap off after contact, making it so the enemy could not pick up the weapon and return the fire; and they still carried the short, sturdy sword know as the gladius . The armor was still the same, as well as most of the clothing worn in the Republic, linen tunics and togas. And tactics were still mostly the same, but modified to better suit the changed times the Taledonians now lived in.

Trade with the Alcastine had brought up the issue of larger war vessels and trade vessels, seeing the superior size and ability of the galleons against the outdated galleys. A new galley was created; it was larger, about the size of large galleon, and had reinforced hulls and more ballistas for weaponary. Also, more supplies and troops could be transported on the new galleys, making them the favored vessel and letting the old galley slip away into memory. The current navy was now at 40 new galleys, and 100 of the old galleys.

The Alcastine galleons had been upgraded quite recently; most of the great vessels carried thirty guns and bore a crew of around a hundred and eighty men. The fleet's flagship, the Lanca de Saint-Emile, was significantly larger, bearing fifty-two guns and a crew of two hundred and fifty. Though Alcastania's land power was well-equipped they were fairly small in number, suitable mostly for defense; it was the navy that gave the Divine High Kingdom her power in the land.

Yet even the mightiest of navies occasionally ran into trouble.

It was early dawn when the galleon Estrela do Setimo Mar came limping into the harbor at Platania - well, what was left of her, anyway. The ship's sails were tattered save for two, which lay upon jury-rigged masts erected over the stumps of the real ones, her ornately carved bow ornament had been broken off, and great scores, rents, and clawmarks lay in her sides.

In a tavern near the seashore, the Estrela's captain, Gardez, leaned towards the grizzled sailors gathered about his table. "We was chasin' a group of pirates just outside the territorial waters of Kadun. They cut west onto the open sea after we sank two of their ships; we took after 'em, but without the bigger ship they were able to get a decent lead before we could catch 'em."

"Pray tell, what happened?" asked a sailor.

"Somethin' not a man of us expected. We'd managed ta cut 'em off an' had run out the guns, but 'fore we could send 'em to the depths somethin' else rose up out of the sea. It 'ad the head an' mane of a great horse, it did, an' the fires of hell burned in its beady eyes, an' its body was that of the great serpent of the Devil itself. Before we could send the bleedin' thing back ta Hell it attacked us. Our swords left nary a dent in its hide, but its fangs snapped the masts like twigs and devoured a dozen good men, hurling others overboard ta sink in the briny depths. We was able ta pull away an' use the guns ta frighten the thing off, but we'd been badly damaged."

"God be blessed," breathed another captain.

"Surely such a thing can be naught but a child of the Devil," mused another sailor.

From the back of the tavern came a wheezing cackle, drawing attention - it was Old Man Gallo, a frequent visitor who had allegedly sailed the high seas long before any in the bar. "Ye young'unsh don' know noshin' 'bout th' crittash that'sh lurkin' in th' depths!" he croaked with a wave of his ale. "Ye an' yer boyos 'ad ye'shelvesh a run-in wit' Ol' Red-Eyesh hisshelf! Fer yearsh he'sh been plyin' them sheash an' gobbalin' up them foolsh what'sh not know what'sh what! K'ahaha!"

And thus did tales of Old Red-Eyes, fearsome serpent of the depths, begin to circulate through seaside taverns in Platania, then up and down the coast. Soon the tales reached the King himself...

(I'll be Prussia at the beginning)

IC:

King Wilhelm III looked over his small kingdom and sighed, one day, he vowed, he would unite the whole of Germany into one.

For the time being, though, they had to beware of attacks from the Catholic brigades scouring the area, Prussia had renounced the Church, and was therefore now a target of the Angel of Death.

He marched back and forth along his balcony, stroking his thin, grey brown beard, thinking.

"Sire, sire!"

"Over here."

A messenger rushed onto the balcony through his quarters.

"Word from the scouts on the southern border, a small scouting party has been spotted!"

"Is it from an army?"

"Apparently not, sire, they carry an unknown flag!"

"Very well, send several of our own men to greet them, and bring them to the capital so I shall meet with them."

"Aye, sire!"

The messenger ran off, soon, three men on horseback galloped out of the castle gates, heading south, towards the alps and the unknown scouting party.

The King had died, no one was sure how, but then again, no one cared. In a moment the civil war had started, but, it would be a short one.

The Royalists had used the last two years for this plan, and now it was finally in motion. In moments, Royal Troops flooded all the castles of the Valsharian Lords, trapping their families, income and most importently, their stocks. It had been the shortest war in histroy. One week, and the Rebels surrendered, taking their new Queens rule with aprasion. This was a girl to fear.

The Queen smiled, her short cut hair around her head. She had called the assembled lords, and it had taken them the better part of a month to arrive, but she felt it worth it. She looked at the assembled crowd, all in full dress armour and mounted. She shook her head, walking out in unmounted armour.

"My Unloyal Subjects" She said with a laugh in her voice. "I know the second I give you a reason you will over throw me, so, I intend to come up with ways to stop you. Now, the first way is this. All knights are under direct royal command, any form of knight, besides the lord himself, under a lords command without my express permission, will be hung!" She glared at them. "Second, the Army will be going back a bit, each lord will have units directed by The royal staff, any other troops besides malitia, you will be hung." Once more the glare. "Thirdly, all of you will be given an area to defend, fail to do so when you quite easily could? You will WISH you where hung." He smiled, before nodding. In an instant, a thousand bowmen went with their weapons pointed into the mass below. "Any Disagreements?" She said, rasing one eyebrow.

IC: A fleet of people landed, the Caladonnians. They were fleeing mighty upheaval across the sea, and had come to this new land in search of a new life. The fleet of 400,000 landed, ranging along the coast and settling wherever was suitable. These people were tall and slender, with an affinity for magic, seafaring, bowmanship, and economy. They found traces of an earlier race that had been ravaged by a plague, but since it did not affect the Caladonnians, they payed attention mostly to setting up a land with both the materials and knowledge they had brought with them and the new things they found. Many settlements were quickly established, and within a year had grown to mighty cities. The capital, Caladonn, was the greatest of them all, and it was from here that the Supreme Archmage ruled, with the Senate elected from all the other cities. The Caladonnians' cities ranged around the upper part of the island, with broad, smooth highways connecting them. As of now, no formal military had been developed, but that was sure to change as this new race encountered other civilizations.

Danube River

The small scouting party had arrived at the ancient border of the old Empire. Ruins from various forts and camps were still scattered around the land as if the fall had happend recently. While crossing the river at a ford, they spotted another being. It was human, of course, and rode away quickly when it had spotted them. Thinking this was a barbarian scout going back to get his hordes, the scouts rode back to the Alps with all quickness to escape certain death and to alert the Emperor.

Meanwhile...

The Emperors plans were becoming a reality. The reconstruction of the Empire would commence. Enough ressources for the nation and a marching army was collected over the years and made the campaign possible.

A small force for a conquering nation to send, only 1 legion, had been sent by boat to Sardinia. It was rumored at the ancient Taledonian city of Caralis still stood, but was controlled by barbarian rebels. When they arrived at the beach on the northside of the island, opposite of the city. The ruins of the port that once stood on the beach acted as futile walls surrounding a small fishing village of 30 inhabitants. When the army disembarked from the galleys, they took the village in 5 minutes for most of the barbarians saw the ships and fleed in terror; not even taking time to gather their belongings which left the legion with a small bundle of valuable treasures of artifacts or stolen denarii(my currency.)

After the village was searched for anyone hiding, a small garrison of 30 legionary infantry and 10 legionary cavalry, the army continued it's march overland towards Caralis. Once they arrived, the troops were shocked that the ancient stone walls of the city were still up and in decent condition. This angered the men as it meant that certain victory was delayed for a short time. The barbarians had barricaded themselves in the city and set up primitive archers on the high stone walls. A camp outside of the enemy firing range was then constructed of the surrounding palm forests on the island. A small, roughly made wooden palisade was constructed to protect the camp, which consisted of many campaign tents and a makeshift blacksmiths hut. There construction of a battering ram was underway.

Sardinia

When the ram was complete, the troops broke camp and weeled it towards the city. When they came into range of the enemy archers, who still did not notice the force had approaced, began getting into formation. They got into the standard legion formation of having 10 cohorts of 6 centuries each. Each century contained 80 men. The men were positioned to form a giant square, with the troops controlling the battering ram in the front and center. The standards of the legion and the Empire blew lightly in the rain as the force advanced.

By this time, the few guards up on the falls noticed the force marching closer and closer to the city and sounded the alarm. The barbarian archers ran up onto the walls and began loading their bows and taking aim. At seeing this, the commanders of the centuries ordered all the men into the tustudo formation. The men then interlocked their shields to form a sort of shell in which they hid in. The force continued to advance until about 10 meters away from the walls. The battering ram was then pushed forward towards the wall. The men were thankfull that the gateway had an arch over it so the men above could not attack the troops operating the battering ram. Within a few hours the large wooden gates that were reinforced by iron guards, were knocked open. The order was given and the entire legion broke formation and began a made charge throught the gates and into the city. The barbarians had set up their entire force behind the walls, wich was 9000 swordsmen and spearmen who met with the charging Taledonians.

After 3 hours of fighting at the gates, the barbarians had been dwindled down to 1000 men who retreated to the cities forum. The legion, which had now a number of 2800 legionaries, reorganized into a marching formation to march down the streets to the forum. The formation was a long line, with infantry in the front and back; archers behind them; and cavalry in the middle. As they marched throught the streets, they were firghtened of the dead streets and buildings. No peasants were seen. But unknown to the troops, was that the peasants had began forming in the forum to form an extra 4000 militia troops. The women and children, however, were hiding in the crumbling ruins of the christian church that had remained from the previous empire.

Sicily

While the invasion of Sardinia was underway, the Emperor also ordered the invasion of the ancient province of Africa(modern day Tunisia) and a force of 2 legions had been sent by boat towards the african continent. The provincial capitol of Carthage was to be retaken. The Emperor was determind to do a lightning strike across Europe to take as much territory as possible quickly.

Days later, a galleon sailed from Platania in search of Old Red-Eyes. With the chaos rising in the east King Simeon had deemed it too risky to send more than one ship to seek out and slay the beast of the deep; thus the galleon Passado Dourado sailed alone from the harbor, the sole official representative of Alcastania in the search for the monster Archbishop Antoninus III had termed "Satan's chosen governor of the deep".

Alas, the Passado Dourado was only alone officially. At the King's will, posters had been plastered across the various ports of the Divine High Kingdom.

Though the galleon had gotten a few hours' headstart, it was soon followed by at least twenty armed vessels - a few armed merchantmen and a couple of noblemen with private vessels. While most sailed due west for the open ocean, Captain Locardo of the Passado Dourado steered northwest, aiming for waters west of Caladonn-held territory. It was tailed closely by the armed merchantman Pride of Valdez under the command of Captain Luzio Valdez; behind them both came one of the two noblemen, the Viscount Andes of Costabranca aboard the Cruz do Marfim.

-----

Meanwhile, the word of the various imperial conquests in the east had reached King Simeon IX. For fear of falling behind the King ordered that lands in North Africa be annexed in the name of the Divine High Kingdom.

A force of thirty-five galleons set sail from Arcola on the southwest coast of Alcastania, led by the galleon Sol Brilhante under the Duke of Malo. With them sailed 3000 good men - 2000 infantrymen and 1000 cavalry, many aboard the galleons, others aboard transports - and transport ships enough to feed them.

Within a short time the fleet had reached the city of Tangier on the northernmost point of the barbarian land, not far from Alcastania itself. The galleons came upon the barbarian city unawares, loading their catapults with fire and arrows and lambasting the primitive coastal defenses with withering firepower. The barbarians drew archers up to the coast to attempt to pick off the Alcastine fleet, but to no avail; the Alcastine's explosive fireballs and burning arrows proved too withering for the barbarian troops, forcing them to withdraw.

Several of the troop transports took to the land, releasing Alcastine longbowmen and pikemen into Tangier. With the barbarian coastal defenses suppressed by the galleons the Alcastine soldiers were able to secure a rudimentary coastal fortress with a clear road to the sea, allowing food, drink, spare weapons and uniforms, and other essentials to be offloaded into the facility now known as Fort Simeon. Most of the city's shoreline was clear of the locals thanks to the bombardment from the Alcastine navy.

Just after midnight a horde of barbarians attacked the Alcastine fortifications; their offensive was disorganized, however, more a desperate reaction to the assault of the more advanced military. The Alcastine archers rose from the walls to rain arrows down on the Moroccan warriors, thinning their ranks. Shrugging off their casualties the barbarians attempted to storm the gate, bringing up a ram. The Alcastines caught them off guard, however, releasing mounted archers to kill the crew of the ram before they could make use of it. Pikemen, macemen, and archers followed, smashing into the barbarian ranks and butchering them in close combat.

When the battle was over, a hundred and thirty three Alcastines lay dead among at least a thousand barbarians from that battle alone. A handful of naval crewers had been killed by Tangier's disorganized shoreline counterattack earlier, and a few galleons had sustained light damage, but otherwise the Alcastine navy ruled the coast off Tangier. There were, however, still active resisters in the city.

The Great Magocracy of Caladonn now had a population of 700,000. The explosive growth resulted from a booming economy as the people fully utilised the multiple natural resources of the lands. A group of diplomats from another people, the Kaduna, arrived in Caladonn, and the Supreme Archmage immediately began to set up peace talks for trade and mutual protection. The nation expanded north to the Orkney Islands and south to the border with Kadun. Noticing the warrior-priests of these people, they began to martial a military of their own, using steel armor and mighty longbows as its backbone. Considering Caladonn's shipbuilding prowess and trading abroad, a navy was also in the works.

The legion marched throught the long street to the city forum to meet the massing enemy, completely unaware of the militia reinforcements. As they came to the end of the street leading into the forum, the barbarian rebels staged an all out charge on the startled Taledonians.

The first few cohorts in front were destroyed or routed by the rebels but the rear cohorts had arrived at the front to reinforce their overwhelmed comrades. Luckily enough, the rest of the "trained" rebels had been killed or routed out of the city, and all that stood between complete control of the city was another 3000 rebel militia; untrained farmers and merchants with no armor, discipline or fighting experience and armed only with daggers. Within ten minutes, the rebels were down to 2000 militia, who then surrendered to the superior disciplined Taledonian force.

The fate of the settlement was now in the hands of the legions commander, Centurion Marcus, who had the choises of occupying the settlement and giving complete citizenship to the rebels, enslaving the population, or slaughtering 3/4 of the remaining population of the city. He chose to enslave the population. Immeadiatly, the entire population, with the exception of a few rich merchants or rebel lords, were put into iron chains and loaded onto galleys to be taken back to the Empire. Out of the 3 957 people in the settlement, 3 928 were put into slavery.

Centurion Marcus was not a fool however, and being the new governor of the city, he kept 1 000 slaves to himself in the city to help construction. Only 200 of them were male, and the rest were the prettiest women from the age of 13 to 28. 200 of those females he kept as his personal slaves; to groom him, bath him, feed him and anything else he desired.

Alcastine Tangier

Word of the disastrous barbarian defeat at Fort Simeon filtered through Tangier. Many of the locals came to the Alcastine fortress to turn themselves in; the civilians among them went utterly unoppressed by the local administration, now under the care of the Duke of Malo's right hand man, Commodore Benites, now appointed Governor of Alcastine Tangier. Many more, however, fled the city, while others formed a resistance movement based in a warehouse in the town's center.

By this time the Alcastines had brought up siege engines from the transports and uploaded the entirety of their ground force. Teams of men patrolled the streets; they suffered minimal losses from insurgents, typically slaughtering them from afar with arrows. Losses on both sides continued to mount.

The insurgency was abruptly halted, however, when the Alcastine galleon crews made a few calculations. In the early hours of the next morning the ships rained fire high over the city, smashing the rebels' warehouse and the surrounding neighbourhood. The initial bombardment was followed by the Alcastine infantry bringing up several land-based catapults, pummeling the rebels' flimsy fortifications with heavy fire. A sally from the natives of Tangier reduced one of the catapults to rubble, but the Alcastines recovered swiftly, beating the rebels back into the rubble and grinding them down with fire and arrows, firing from nearby rooftops and behind rubble piles. Finally the melee troops moved in and killed those who continued to fight, taking prisoners of those who surrendered.

By the next day the Alcastine dead numbered four hundred and six, a paltry sum compared to the nearly three thousand eight hundred slain by Alcastine troops. The city of Tangier was firmly in the hands of the Alcastines.

When given the choice to enslave the populace or kill them all, Governor Benites took neither option. Instead he allowed the citizens to go once more about their lives, pledging to rebuild Tangier and to allow the people to retain their culture and way of life. While uprisings against the Alcastines were forbidden and punishable by death, people were permitted to live freely and promised wealth and prosperity under the Divine High Kingdom when Tangier was rebuilt. The prisoners were treated humanely, while soldiers were given instructions to treat the citizens of Tangier with a firm but gentle hand. Surprisingly, it worked; seeing that they would not be oppressed or enslaved by their new overlords and with the promise of wealth put before them, the locals worked in tandem with the Alcastines to begin rebuilding Tangier.

The High Seas

"Bring us to a halt, helmsman," called Captain Locardo, "and crews, load ye the weapons."

The Passado Dourado slowed to a halt, floating easily in the calm seas. Adjusting his dark captain's cap, Enrico Locardo gazed out across the open water, resting a hand on his chin. "These art the coordinates provided by our man," he mused with a little frown. "Surely the serpent of hell shalt ply these waters."

Beside him, First Mate Cardes drew himself to attention. "Orders, Captain?"

Locardo glanced over his shoulder. "Keep ye the weapons armed and ready lest Old Red-Eyes come upon us unawares. Prepare the bait."

"Aye, sir."

As the Passado's crews began to load the ship's catapults full of arrows, the hold was opened, and with the help of several pulleys the bait was lifted out - the carcass of a right whale, so stencheous that the crew had to wear rags over their noses to move it. They soon dumped the corpse overboard and withdrew to a safe distance, just waiting for the sea serpent to emerge.

And waited.

And waited.

And waited.

When the 2 legions arrived in Africa at the ruined port of Carthage, they were surprised to find no resistence. Instead, they found Taledonian survivors who had been living among the ruble for years and were glad to rejoin the Empire. So the Empire was slowly regaining strenght. It controlled Italy, Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica and now the ancient province of Africa. With these new provinces and all the slaves, the population was now at 501 956 people in the Empire. This would make for a crowded space and expansion would soon be needed. Therefore, the Emperor then placed his attention on Greece, this was his goal for the next couple of years. But first, he would have to rebuild his forces and replenish his ressources. Also, the garrisons leading out of the Alps were reinforced with 1 000 legionaries each to ensure no raids would come, since the word of the rising power of Taledonia would be no doubt a feared topic in other lands; especially those who lived in lands once belonging to the old empire. OOC:I guess I'll take the European part of Turkey like Constantinople and 100 miles west. I'm going to be a Venice-like City state that has colonies on the northern part of Anatolia and on the Crimean Peninsula and Cyprus. On the other side of the Sea of Marmara are large Turkic hordes so there aren't any colonies there. Trade to the Black sea is owned by us, but there is a rival city near Troy who are allied to the Turkic people. For this purpose Constantinople=Parthini.

The city or Parthini has 400,000 citizens living there and 10,000 soldiers located around Parthini. The colony of Cyprus has 70,000 people and 5,000 soldiers. The colony of Crimea has 20,000 citizens and 3,000 Soldiers. There are three forts, Trebezon with 15,000 people and 4,000 soldiers, Dartharra with 8,000 people and 3,000 soldiers, and Ursadar with 3,000 people and 4,000 soldiers. They are all located about 400 miles east of Parthini on a 200 mile stretch, repectivly. Trebezon is on a river, Dartharra is near a gold mine, and Ursadar is strategically located at a pass to Armenia. A navy, 300 warships strong, keeps the colonies together and safe from pirates that inhabit the various islands in the Aegean.

Armies consist of mostly chainmailed axemen and backup longbowmen to hit the Turkic horsemen. Javelineers on horses are basic scouting and harrassing units. Advanced ballistas and Greek Fire is used on ships and on land.

EDIT: I nerfed my navy to 300 and enlarged Parthini's population to 400,000 because its so important, and lowered the population of the other cities.

Jarald Porath walked out of the cathedral of St. Augustine. The King was laid to rest there. He was the last of his line: the line that extended the Kingdom's greatness across the seas. His relatives had either become pirates, hidden from their duty, or been killed in the Sack of Nicomedia across the Marmara. Everyone was wondering the same thing; who would run the country.

With the lack of nobility in the Kingdom it was only obvious that a form of representative government would follow suit. A small group of wealthy ship owners and farmers were on a council deciding trade business. Jarald, as the King's advisor, chose to extend the powers of that council to extend to matters of Governor appointments and War. Now the Council had full ability to run the country. For the first order of business, Governors were reviewed.

The Governors of Cyprus and Crimea were doing their jobs well and kept them to be reviewed in 5 years time. A general was promoted to Governor of Ursadar. The governor of Dartharra had been embezzling funds and was put to death. The governor of Trebezon was actually only a puppet of the Turkic spies there and was replaced, while an additional 500 soldiers were sent to protect the city. Jarald was made High General and his brother, Ralf was made governor of Parthini. Lastly, ships were sent to Italy and Egypt to seek word of new activity.

No. Not yet, Jarald thought. Now it was time to control the entire Bosphorus. Troy must be taken down.

The next day, Jarald sat in the meeting of the Council. The issue of the trade agreement with Troy came up. As of now, passage to Cyprus was guarenteed for acess to the Farmlands of the Kievan pagans. It was a weakening agreement because before then, all the grain to the Eastern Mediterranean came from Parthinian merchants. Now, however, there was competiton. As the men of the Council about what was acceptable to bargain, Jarald stood.

"Why don't we just demand their immediate surrender?" he asked.

"Are you mad! Why, our cities haven't been at war for three centuries. Why should we stop now?"

"Because we have the ability to grow! With the incorporation of Troy, we can have the capabilities to fund an army to crush the hordes and establish our empire. We could extend across the entire peninsula. All of Asia Minor, no, Asia itself could be ours. The only block is Troy."

Many of the councilmen agreed. Troy wasn't that mighty anyways. Only a few disagreed. They shunned the warmongering Captian. They we dismissed with a loud hissing. The City was ready for war!

Morocco

Word of the catastrophic battles at Tangier spread down through the various barbarian cities in Morocco. At first they were intent on resisting any efforts to occupy them, but that will broke quickly as ten galleons sailed from Tangier and twenty more from Alcastania, making their way to Rabat and laying waste to their shore with fire. The Moroccans had drawn up several catapults to defend Rabat; while they did manage to cripple a galleon and snap the mast off another, the siege engines were rapidly ground down by the Alcastine attack. With the shore mostly clear the Alcastine ground troops landed.

The Moroccans attempted to storm the beach, resulting in twenty-four deaths on the Alcastine side; however, the arrows hurled from the Galleons and by the Alcastine archers slaughtered them, killing in excess of five hundred. As the Alcastines moved forward the former emir of the town came forward in surrender, turning Rabat and the surrounds over to the jurisdiction of Alcastania on the condition that there would be no murder or enslavement of the population.

With the fall of Rabat the Moroccan resistance wavered, then fragmented entirely. Most of their soldiers of the line turned in their arms when they saw the galleons sailing towards their coast, robbing the local resistance of manpower. The more determined locals - mostly officers - fled the cities and hid out in the desert, taking up banditry and harassment., or fled to the only city that had not surrendered, Oujda, on the border of Algerian territory.

In celebration of the taking of the new province of Morocco King Simeon IX declared the Duke of Malo governor of the region, appointing him the Grand Duke of Morocco. He governed from Rabat, where the main galleons of the Moroccan Provincial Fleet based itself and an army of 2500 men stood ready to crush those who sought to eject the Alcastines from their new prize. Oujda was permitted to stand for now; their numbers were too small to prove threatening, and its inland location prevented the Alcastines from simply wiping it out from afar as they'd done with the defenses of Tangier and Rabat.

And thus did the people of Morocco come under the jurisdiction of Alcastania; they were permitted to keep their culture, faith, and ways of life but forbidden from carrying arms, and those who joined the army were waived from that last law as well as granted a hefty salary. The benevolent treatment of the Moroccans prevented major uprisings, though there was occasionally light fighting outside the cities thanks to the bandits.

Resting his arms against the siderail of the Passado Dourado, Locardo exhaled softly in boredom and mild frustration. Despite several days out here they had yet to see head nor tail of Old Red-Eyes. Perhaps he'd moved on -

"Captain!" shouted one of the men in the crow's nest. "To starboard!"

Quickly Locardo kipped up and turned, staring out onto the water. There was nothing very close to the ship... but a distance away four humps were moving through the water, quickly moving away from the Passado. Locardo's eyes brightened.

"Helmsman, after that serpent!" barked the captain as he strode to stand nearer to the bow. "Ye men, ready the guns and keep them trained upon the snake, and prepare ye thy swords lest it come aboard!"

And thus did the mighty galleon begin to tail the fleeing sea serpent, its catapults loaded full of arrows and its crew ready to fight...

As the Empire's borders had grown, so had trade and many other things. Thanks to the unmatched skill of Taledonian statecraft, the Empire's coffers were once again full and good fortune was everywhere.

Entertainment was practically the same as in the old Empire; the colisseum and arenas in the cities were usually packed to see the gladiatorial games. The Circus Maximus and Hippodromes were full of people watching the cavalry games, and the new form of entertainment was also doing well. Theaters now dotted the cities in which plays were performed there for the amusment of the people. These different events kept almost everyone in the Empire content.

The others were kept in line by the local garrisons and legions of the Empire. New recruits came in daily and many forts and garrisons were reinforced. A new developpement in cavalry armor was created. It was a full body of armor that was fitted together to allow movement of the joints. The cavalry helmets stayed the same, however, as it was traditional to wear the open faced helmet with the red horse hair crests on top. Also, a new cavalry weapon was created, the lance. This was issued to most cavalry units. Another improvement was the longbow; in which a longer bow was used and could fire a greater distance. Fletching was also invented, as was barbed tips of iron to stick in the enemy.

This force would be invading Greece in a few days. But until then, most were being fitted with their equipement and being blessed by the priests and the Pope. Religion, for the most part, was Christian in the Empire, tho a small percent of the population still worshiped the old gods. Many people in the city and surrounding area of Taledon came every sunday to hear the sermon read by the Pope.

Northern Greece

The land army passed by the legion fort on the very edge of the Empire's borders and headed out into Greece. Many small barbarian camps and villages were found and quickly destroyed or else the barbarians had deserted them when they heard of the force. The first stop of the land army was the ancient city of Segesta, which after the fall of the old Empire was now under the control of the "King" of the northern half of Greece.

To the jubilence of the Emperor, it appeared that the barbarian King had not been notified, or else didn't care about their advance. This the Emperor used to his advantage; he ordered his new siege engines, giant machines called trebuchets, to fire on the large stone walls that still stood around the city.

Segesta

Verxingotorics sat up on the high walls looking out at the sun that was now setting. He hated the fact that he had been given the duty of guard at that time of day and was almost drifting off into sleep. Suddenly, without warning, a loud noise was heard and he awoke and stood up to see what was happening. He let out a small gasp as a giant boulder smashed into the wall below him and sent him and the top of the wall flying everywhere.

The alarm was sounded and the streets were full of panic stricken people trying to get clear of the falling debris of the walls. The barbarian kings city garrison made their way throught the mob of fleeing people, having to resort to using their fists, or even their swords to clear a path for themselves.

As they reached the large hole that was now present in the wall, they were cut down by thousands of flaming arrows flying through the gap. This sent the survivors fleeing back to a more defensable position.

Throught the gap, hundreds of legionaries started pouring into the city and reforming. They made their way to the top of the walls and opened the gates, allowing the cavalry to rush in and kill the startled barbarians holding position behind the gates.

Port of Sparta, Southern Greece

Pirate ships and merchant vessels floated in and out of the port of Sparta. The once great city was now a pirate refuge. Law and order were completely unheard of and the population seemed to diminish with all the killings instead of grow. The only thing keeping Sparta alive was that pirates from Crete usually came and stayed there between maraudings.

As the pirate vessel "Sparta's Scourge" sailed into the port, a large flamming boulder smashed into it's side. Water rushed in and the ship sank as the fleet of Taledonian galleys sailed closer, firing at all the other ships. This was of great humor to all who had seen the destroyed ship, as it was their mission to reclaim Sparta and get rid of the scourge that had befallen the population.

The docked ships emptied quickly as people went running from the docks; and the vessels not yet docked were either sunk with their crews still onboard, or the crew would jump off into the water and watch the ship sink with all their plundered treasures. Tho their agony at this was quickly silenced as the passing legionaries rained arrows down upon the survivors in the water and the people still on the docks.

The galleys pulled into the now emptied docks, breaking masts that still stood up from the water were the ships had been sunk. The planks were lowered to the docks and the troops disembarked. They carried large wooden palisades which they would set up around the port to create a sort of makeshift camp for the troops and to protect the ships.

Sparta

After the palisades were set up, the legions moved out of the port, leaving 4 centuries to guard the ships. The army split up into four groups who headed down the four different roads leading in and out of the port. Various groups of pirates attacked, but the organised forces slaughtered them with ease. Within 3 hours, the large city was now under Taledonian command; which also meant that the surrounding countryside which took up most of the Pelopponnesus was technically under Taledonian control also. But the armies would have to restore order for it to be literally under the control of the Empire.

Segesta

After the city was opened up to the legions, the barbarians retreated back to the old regional palace which the barbarian king resided in. There they made a weak stand but were utterly destroyed by the legions. The Emperor, with an escort of 30 of his best men, were the first to enter the palace. There, 15 barbarian nobles flanking one barbarian, who was a giant in size, came up towards the Emperor and got down on their knees to beg for mercy. The Emperor showed none and cut of the head of the barbarian king with his own sword.

After word had gotten out about the defeat of their King, the barbarian nobles who governed the rest of Northern Greece surrendered to the legions as they passed by their cities. The Emperor sold them all into slavery in which they were taken to be dispersed throughout the Empire. 50,000 slaves were sent back. Garrisons were left in the old cities that still stood from the old days and settlers were already begining to depart to re-colonise the land.

Now with the north captured, the only place left to capture was the middle and the rest of the south. This is were another barbarian King ruled over the land. He took Athens as his castle and ruled from Athens to Corinth, up to Delphi. This was the last place in Greece that the Empire had to capture in order to be in complete control. But this was the most heavily guarded part of the country, which is why the army was devided up in the first place; so that the enemy would be surrounded on both sides. Soon the invasion would begin, but it would not be an easy conquest.

Oujda

With Morocco secure save for Oujda, King Simeon IX set his sights on territory further to the east - the northern coast of modern-day Algeria, a land inhabited by barbarians. The territory in question ran all the way along the seashore to the edge of the province of Tunisia - and out of respect for Taledonia the conquest would stop there. Though the Alcastines did not fear the Taledonians, they preferred not to provoke attacks.

But first, Oujda.

A force of loyal Moroccans was recruited to aid the Alcastines in the siege of the city, boosting the force to four thousand men strong. The Alcastine force took a week beforehand to construct siege weapons in secret, massing behemoth mangonels and catapults, ballistae and cheiroballistae, and a few siege towers for good measure.

As the Alcastine force gathered behind the arrow-based engines, the mangonels opened fire on Oujda's walls, hurling huge boulders weighing nearly a full ton. The catapults lobbed fire and rains of arrows at the Moroccans manning the walls, massacring their defenses. A few engines were lost to Oujda's defenders returning fire, but the pummeling of the mangonels was simply too much. The city's western wall collapsed in a rain of debris.

The locals of Oujda surged out through the hole to attack the Alcastines... and thus did the ballistae and cheiroballistae come into play, butchering the Moroccan charge with arrows and javelins and forcing them back into the city without damage to the forces of Alcastania. The siege towers trundled up to those walls which were still standing, dispelling Alcastine swordsmen and archers. It was a short task to push the remaining Moroccans from the walls. Far from fearing an attack from outside, the archers took up positions on the walls and began firing into the city with flaming arrows, cutting down the resisters pushed back inside by the ballistae. The engines themselves closed on the hole, backed by the infantry and more archers, showering the Moroccan formation with fire and death.

Soon, however, the defenders' nerve broke, and they charged the Alcastine lines. The infantry met them with pikes and shattered their formation, the macemen and cavalry coming around on the immediate flanks to begin crushing the Moroccans into the Alcastine center. The battle wasn't so much a fight as a massacre. In the end the Alcastine force emerged with three thousand one hundred and twenty-eight men still able to fight, at least five hundred dead; the Moroccan dead numbered well over three thousand.

And thus the city of Oujda was swiftly taken by the forces of Alcastania, securing the control of Simeon IX over Morocco. To the east the promise of greater prosperity along the coast of Algeria lay. Indeed, word of the conquest of Morocco had already begun to filter down to the Algerian tribes; many were willing to surrender, while others intended to fight.

OOC: Alcastania now controls both Portugal and Morocco, though not the Western Sahara.

Manius Decius had been sent out on a scouting mission. He was rather unexcited about it for nothing ever happend on the island of Sicily. Maybe a few pirates but even those had stopped almost completely. As he was approaching the south-eastern shores, he spotted ships landing and cavalry debarking. Fearing this could be an invasion, he quickly turned his horse and rode quickly back to the city of Syracuse, which was close to the south-eastern shores.

Within the hour, 2 legions left the city gates of Syracuse and started marching towards the beach. Forward scouts reported that the barbarian invaders had set up a camp instead of pushing further into the island.

The next morning, as the enemy camp would be waking, they would notice the large amount of Taledonian legionaries surrounding the camp in battle formation, ready to charge the camp at the command of Centurion Aurellius, the commanding officer of the force.

Northern Algeria

Three months after the securing of Morocco the taking of Northern Algeria began; the Alcastines had waited out the winter beforehand. A fleet of forty galleons, several transports, and a number of supply ships started up the coast, while the army in Morocco, three thousand men strong, started eastward.

The tribes in the west, so close to Morocco, knew all too well that their forces were no match for the superior Alcastine technology. Tribe after tribe surrendered to Alcastania and were, as the Moroccans were, permitted to retain their ways of life so long as they abided by Alcastine laws. The tribes up the river just past Mascara surrendered en masse, giving Alcastania control of Algeria up to the river and south to the Atlas Mountains. The Alcastines set up their main fortifications in the coastal city of Oran, beginning to mass for an offensive further east.

The main resistance in northeastern Algeria came from the cities of Algiers and Blida in the center-north and the city of Setif further to the east. Most of the smaller tribes were willing to surrender if approached. Fortunately, Algiers WAS a coastal town, albeit a large one...

"My lord, we are all ready to go."

"Good, ready the vandals and crossbowmen for immediate departure as well."

King Wilhelm III was having dinner at his luxerious dining table when a page ran up to him, quickly whispering into his ear.

It was not, in fact, news from the army, but news of a fearsome foe that was demolishing towns in the east!

He excused himself from the table and went outside, several injured peasants bowed to him and went on their knees.

"Rise, and tell me of these enemies."

They did, and looked hurridly between one another.

"Sire, they are massive men on horseback, they burned our villages, raped our women, and killed any man who fought back!"

The king glowered inside himself for a moment, what could they have done to earn the wrath of these unknown people? He turned to the page.

"What of the border patrol?"

"We transfered many soldiers to the army that went West, my lord."

"Organize militias in all unaffected towns, and prepare the royal guard. We will stop this army in its tracks."

"Yes, sire."

"And get Cardion. We will need his skills."

The page nodded, fear in his eyes at the mention of the warrior.

Cyrus rode ahead, the scouts had alerted him to a figure lying in the road.

With the legion behind him, and two scouts riding next to him, they approached the man.

Knives glinted around his body in the afternoon sunlight, he looked down upon a burning village and the sight of knights chasing after and killing men, women, and children.

His dark eyes flashed from there to the men behind him, a group of ragtag militia, numbering around 200. Next to them were twenty royal knights that usually stayed to defend the castle, they were fully armed, while the militia either had crude clubs or old swords.

"We outnumber them, but they are far more experienced than this army...we will have to have surprise as well as strength behind our attack."

"But, Lord Cardion, how do we plan to do that?"

"I will challenge them myself, with the knights behind me, than you shall come down from the hills to strike at them."

Cardion studied it from many angles, going off on his own , searching around it.

The settlement of the new lands (Scandinavia) was complete, as the first penninsula, the lands connected to it, and the penninsula across the sea were all dotted with cities, connected by broad highways and patrolled with the Imperial Legions. The population of all of Caladonn now numbered 1 million, and was booming due to the rapid influx of new lands and natural resources. However, the people of Scandinavia, who were now fully settled with little additional room, began looking southward, past the north sea and the penninsula of civilized lands, to the uncharted lands of the south. Five Legions, 5,000 men, under the command of General Quarioth, marched south, past the roads of the nation into uncharted territories (Northwestern Germany). Meanwhile, the Imperial Navy began mapping the southeastern edges of the north sea, and setting up small colonies on the coast (North Poland and Estonia).

Background Information: The Netherlands was but a small geographical area, descended from Viking, Carolingian and Gothic ancestors. Their independence maintained by the fertility of their lands which they farm well, the Dutch are an oligarchical society ruled by a council of 15 barons led by the Staadtmeister, or Chief Executive, responsible for leadership of the nation's armies. This Staadtmeister's decisions are monitored by the council who elect him for a period of time and who can remove him. In turn these barons are in place by a vote taken by the major landholders of the realm. The Dutch utilise their excellent farming capabilities to develop a largish civillian based army, that is well supplied (by virtue of the Realm's maritime capacity) even if it is largely infantry based.

In Character: The Council of 12 Barons elected Edgar, Count of Ahnen as Staadtmeister. Edgar announced his intention to protect the neutral status of the realm while developing its maritime capacity.

OOC: Spooty, I also have Estonia, Finland, and a thin edge of the coasts in Poland and Germany that border on the North Sea.

IC: Caladonn was in an uproar. Talk abounded on the savage barbarians that had razed several settlements in Poland to the ground, showing an unchecked ferocity. The flimsy Caladonnian defenses and untrained settlers had been no match for these wild horsemen. Also, another, more civilized Germanic people had been discovered. A diplomatic party was sent to their lands, to ask for peace and possibly trade. It was heard that these people had fought the wild barbarians in the past, and might help Caladonn against them. In Germany, the coastal settlements were established, and the settlers pushed only as far inland as they could until they encountered the Germans. Here, out of friendly intentions, they stopped, and 5 Legions built up permanent forts out of stone there, more to facilitate trade and guard against Deatharon than anything else. The offer by the Kaduna to help Caladonn against Deatharon was gratefully recieved, and the Caladonnians promised in return to always assist these faithful allies whenever help was needed.

However, in Poland, things were going from bad to worse. Of the ten major settlements along the coast, three were completely destroyed by the ferocious raiders. however, now Caladonn was beginning to fight back. Most of the army was sent there, a full 20 Legions or 20,000 men. Much of the navy was also sent to this area, both to patrol, and also to sail from the Gulf of Gdansk up the Vistula River into Deatharon Territory. All settlements were heavily fortifed, with thick and tall stone walls and Repeater Bolt Throwers and Catapults on the towers, with highly trained plate-armoured soldiers with mighty composite bows and huge steel shields lined the ramparts. The greatest settlement, Arcalon, was right on the Vistula River, so this was especially fortified, and the navy began sending squadrons upriver, both to fire flaming arrows and bolts into the stricken enemy and launch amphibious assaults from the ships into unsuspecting enemy villages. The Caladonn High Command waited for word from the Germans and Kaduna to go on a full offensive, however.

Across the channel, it was discovered that a new civilization was growing, and Caladonn sent one of its best diplomats, Quarion Almiar, to attempt to negotiate trade and peace.

IC: The Deatharon raids in Poland were largely inneffective. Most of the settlers lived in the ten centralised settlements, and so wer not very vulnerable. Also, the defending Caladonnian troops not only outnumbered the attackers, but also outclassed the peasants. The Kaduna army was recieved in Caladonn amid cheers, and many transport ships were readied to take the warrior priests and other soldiers to Poland. When they landed, it was decided that all of them together would go on a mafor offensive, confident they could defeat the barbarians. With the Kadun warriors came 15,000 more well-trained and equipped troops, ready to fight for Caladonn. Word of the combat in Estonia was also heard, and 10,000 men were sent to reinforce and defend that area, while the main offensive would take place in Poland. Leaving 5,000 troops to guard the cities, 30,000 Caladonnians and 10,000 Kaduna marched inland, with the Caladonnians under the command of General Areath, a veteran of many battles against the barbarians. A naval fleet of 50 ships, each holding 500 sailors and marines, sailed up the Vistula River to come to grips with the enemy at the same time as the land army.

I have brought some gifts of goodwill from Archmage Arcathon Desthor, the ruler of Caladonn at the present." He beckoned to several servants, who brought forth several crates that were opened at the king's feet. The diplomat gestured to a brilliantly colored swordfish, and said, "A sumptuous meal for yourself, brought from far seas for your enjoyment." Also, a great, jeweled sword was brought forth, and presented to the king. Ellethon Holimar bowed again, and waited for the king's response.

IC: It had been a hard time for the Parthinians. As the attack on Troy had used nearly all the soldiers and the seige had taken longer than expected. Unfortunatly, as the final preparations for the seige began, news had arrived. All of the colonies in the black sea had been taken by a horde from Russia. Jarald rushed the men back to Parthini.

As the fleet was arriving to Parthini he saw hordes of riders rushing through the gates. All he could do was attempt to rescue as many citizens as possible. The fleet sped away. 200,000 citizens and most of the garrison. Sadly, none of the Council made it. Fortunatly, Cyprus was big and could support a large population. But expansion was needed.

Jarald arrived and immediately the Governor supported his position of commander of the Armies. For now, the Governor would run the remnants of the Republic until a new council would be formed. But now, the necissary thing was to expand or die. Jarald also sent diplomats to Italy, Egypt and even as far as Spain and France.

Jarald coordinated his troops: about 8,000 axemen, 3,000 longbows, and another 2,000 horse archers. Immediately, Jarald ordered drafts of the people. Most of the men were given standard spears, but the stronger ones were taught with axes. The army swelled to 20,000 spearmen, 12,000 axemen, 4,000 longbows, and 5,000 horse archers. The fleet was also upgraded and an additonal 100 ships were made. Jarald ordered the army to attack the nearby City of Antioch. From there, they could expand to the rest of the Middle East or north and regain what was taken.

First, scouts were sent to investigate the city.

Al-Hijal of Antioch was a glutton. He oppressed his people as harsh as any ruler before him. Even the merchants hated him for his extreme tariffs. The only reason he was still in power was because of the ruthless Assassins that roamed the streets.

Lareek had lived in Parthini for all his life until a few days ago. Now he was working for the Commander. He had stolen aboard a ship to Antioch and was to see what things were like there.

As Lareek walked around, he noticed the riches that were abound in Antioch. His country would be much better off with this town under his control. He also saw an execution for standing too close to an Assassin. He noticed the angry looks on the people's faces as they left. Eventually, Lareek had found connections to unerground movements in Antioch. They were willing to rise up if the Parthinians would help them. Lareek was satisfied and the ships of war headed to Antioch.

More troops were sent to conquer the islands of Crete and Balearies, while in the south, 3 legions under P. Quintillius Varus headed out of Tunisia to conquere Algeria. These actions were done to ensure a good rule over the medditereanian and increase the total power of Taledonia.

Balearies, being a very small island off the coast of Spain, was easily conquered by the 2 legions sent. The barbarian city on the island surrendered at the very sight of the Taledonian army. Crete on the other hand, was a larger island and proved somewhat more difficult. Tho with the 2 barbarian kingdoms weakened from fighting each other for possesion of the island, the legions swept throught and conquered the island.

In Tunisia, Varus' army was still preparing to invade, seeing as how another "civilized" peoples had previously went in to conquer those lands; but if diplomacy did not previal, the legions would sweep through the enemy armies and take the land by force.

The army of Parthini arrived on the shores of Syri. They began to mobilize and head in the direction of Antioch. The plan was that the only somewhat smaller army of Antioch would ride out and while the army was gone, the citizens would rise up and declare loyalty to the Republic.

The armies met on a small valley. Each army controlled its own hill. If the Antiochites didn't surrender, then the valley would be filled with blood by tommorow morning.

Jarald and his escort rode forward. Al-Hijal and his escort met them.

"Return to your worthless island home. You are not wanted hear," bellowed the Amir.

"Ah, but you are the one that is not wanted. If your men do not disperse they will meet their doom down here in this valley, and they will return to an unfriendly city. Look! A messenger is here, from Antioch!" mocked Jarald.

The Amir read the message and turned pale white. NOO!! It cannot be true!" The Amir's horse began to arch and he fell off and was crushed by his horse. Most of the soldiers of Antioch ran but some came and pledged alligence to Jarald. His forces doubled from this and the whole country of Syria soon fell without a drop of Parthinian blood spilt.
