IC thread is located here (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=413363)

I've been planning this for about two months, but RL gets in the way sometimes. Anyway, I'm wondering if anybody's up for a party. A huge party in Krioval, to be exact. Here are the details:

Torokara is the capital and most populous city of Krioval (about 200 million people live there). The city itself encompasses an entire island in the Pacific of about 2000 square kilometers, and it rises to its maximum height of 1 kilometer (level six). So basically, it's a big city with lots of people living in it. It's also the economic hub of Krioval's FT empire.

Now for the Festival. Traditional Kriovalian religious beliefs dictate that, at the solstices, all Kriovalians are to honor the Gods, who fought with mortal beings to seal away the force of Annihilation, which would have otherwise unmade the universe. The winter solstice is believed to be the day on which the Gods actually fought, and as such, the feasting and celebration are muted a bit, and the evening is reserved for reflection on one's existence. But that's the *other* solstice.

At midsummer, on the other hand, the Festival of Fighters is held. During the day, there are parades and various military demonstrations, as well as the unveiling of new technology. In short, the first day is to celebrate Krioval's greatness (and encourage other nations to send tourists to be impressed and spend money). The day after follows in much of the same vein.

The night between, however, is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans, times a hundred. All non-essential contracts, including marriage licenses and military rankings (outside of an emergency), are annulled from sunset to sunrise. As you can imagine, it's pandemonium in the city for that time. The only things preventing crime are that citizens can temporarily detain people during the commission of a crime and the penalties for crimes committed during the festival are anywhere from five to twenty times more severe than at other times.

As the name implies, the real treat's for the soldiers, almost all of whom are likely to find at least one person with whom to spend the night. Basically, anybody is allowed to proposition anybody else regardless of sex, rank, national origin (though foreigners are approached with far more caution than Kriovalians), marital status, or who else is already present in the group. It's expected that any sexual activity will only go on behind closed doors, however. Beyond that, most businesses are open all night (especially bars), and offer huge discounts, as the Festival is partly underwritten by the Commander.

All that said, is anybody interested in this type of RP?

Won't be able to do anything till later on Sunday. Too busy :fluffle:ing with the fiance. :D

Well, considering it's just after midnight (for both of us), that does limit what I can do with this tonight, so later Sunday is probably the *earliest* that I'd start the thread.

I'm definitely up for this. The Empress has officially declared that she needs a vacation. ( and that means she is going to get it.- and there are some people that will be very glad to see her off planet! a) And the last time she visited Earth it was as a part of hostilities with Tarlachia, so it will be nice to visit Earth in a more friendly fashion.

How ever for it to be anything resembling a vacation, it can't be with a large retinue ( shudder) so it would be semi incognito, just herself and a pair of bodyguards.

Once the thread starts I'll have her private secretary contact the Commanders private secretay if that is okay by you.
Krioval
17-04-2005, 08:34
That'd be fine, though there's a chance the secretary might get the Commander directly! Krioval's a strange place.
Krioval
17-04-2005, 08:36
Oh, and in general, there's bound to be plenty of intrigue, political and otherwise, though most of it's peaceful. Bar brawls, on the other hand, are also rather common, and if one's nation wants to have their leader in on one of those, that'd be fine as well (but let me know here, first).

Lol Michiko will have bodyguards only because the law requires. Before she became Empress, Michiko was a lady who could stand on her own...and still does.

Oh well. I'd hoped for more interest, but I guess it can go with who we've got lined up. Maybe people will join as it goes. In any case, I'll do the intro either tomorrow (Monday) morning or early afternoon.

The first post is stamped 7 June, and the Festival takes place at the solstice (either 20 or 21 June). This is to give people a chance to respond while the storyline goes forward, and I'll speed through most of the month in a day or two.

Must give the post justice, and tie everything together nicely.

There's nothing formally organized by Krioval, but there are plenty of places to test one's skill during the Festival. Mainly, it's a way for Krioval to show off to some extent, and for the leadership to get a break. Plus, with rank and status being major considerations in Krioval, it's a chance to mix with people one might otherwise never be able to meet.
Krioval

Don't worry if I start accelerating things by way of timestamps. Conversations that aren't specifically linked to a given day can go on as before, and those requiring a certain time frame can "pause" the flow of time long enough to be resolved. So if we're suddenly near the 18th or so of June (with the Festival on the 21st), it's not a big deal.
Vastiva
20-04-2005, 07:04
I am taking it on faith there is some sort of "contest of arms" available on many levels, as at least one of my entrants has a penchant for "archaic" weaponry.

But then, you probably know that by now....

Krioval
20-04-2005, 07:14
I hadn't really considered whether to do the tournament-type thing or not, but I see no reason *not* to do it. So I guess the itinerary becomes:

Before 21 June: get to Krioval and look around

21 June:

morning - tournament qualifiers (early rounds)
afternoon - break, then tournament (late rounds)
late afternoon - parades, political speeches, maybe a technology demonstration or two (let me know what people want to see)
evening - Festival declared "open"; drunken debauchery optional (but definitely encouraged)

22 June:

morning - deal with aftereffects of previous night
afternoon - enjoy rest of day off

That work?
Vastiva
20-04-2005, 07:37
Works, though at least one entrant will be of the "archaic weapons specialist" type.

We might drop a Trade Delegation on you for the weapons show... wait, we like our reputation...

Nah, we'll send one. They debauch better then most countries.

Don't need to RP the tournaments - heck, local "bar bets" and the like is good, just so there's the chance for something shiny to take back to the Harem....

Cool, though I highly doubt that you're going to manage being able to fly straight into Krioval, let alone the capital, in the manner you described! :D

I'll let it slide though, since I didn't specifically say you couldn't do that But typically, we would have attempted to intercept or even repel your ships on the basis that a terrorist wouldn't hesitate to blow themselves up and potentially kill millions of people.

Welcome.

Sigrun's true history is known to only few. But from what is gathered, it is rumored that he has returned to enact justice on an old enemy. Some say he is a restless spirit. Others say he is on a mission. And yet others claim that he was sent back from across the sea to finish what he had started.

No matter the myth, he is here.

And he's not going back.

*****************************************

Sigrun is the ruler of Tarlachia, and has been ruler for almost three hundred years now. In an incident involving two hardly notable, yet important individuals, Tarlachia; once a modern tech/near future tech nation; found itself in conflict with Tanara a future tech nation. To make the story short, the two nations diffused the conflict successfully and have become allies. Tanara has agreed to help Tarlachia get its footing into space, and begin to establish its reputation amongst the space nations.

In this thread, Tanaran crews have been training Tarlachian crews how to manage one of their ships, and will ultimately gift the Tarlachians with their ship, as a congratulations for their first steps into space.

**************************************

Additional Information:

Sigrun is a reknown warrior amongst many on Earth. His skills in combat have been established over the years (in many threads too), and has gotten him to legendary status amongst other warriors and fighters. He has challenged and defeated many opponents, including demon lords and other notable forces of the battlefield. It is with great recommendation that any who wish to be hostile to him, be able to deal what he may dish out...

Just a mention - I don't know if the misspelling was deliberate - perhaps you were wishing for the return message to be misrouted?

And one of Michiko's two body guards, Perigrine Omega, will be possibly entering the tournament. She is a past mistress of the katana and no small mumber of various martial arts, having trained since early childhood.

Raijin's Army, a gang in the slums of Torokara, appears interested in maintaining order during the upcoming festival (post 1). Little is known about them, except that Jenai and Mikhail are in charge of a subsector of the first level, and they answer to someone called Slasher (posts 31 and 36). They typically avoid action when possible, but the thought of a foreigner in danger motivates action (posts 26 and 31).

The Torokara Slashers (strangely enough) have been winning soccer matches for the first time in years, and rumors are circulating that the stars, Johan Solhan and Tevak Salazar are going to be guests of honor at the Festival (post 1). Business is booming as a result.

Parliament is debating water regulations (post 1), though its attention is likely to be diverted by the deaths of Andruik Dova and Alexander Selekar, two important religious leaders (posts 12 and 13). Dova leaves most of his possessions to the Kriovalian government, which implies that the Commander is to deal with them (post 13). Raijin Dekker declares two days of mourning on the 13th of June (post 22). The Festival is scheduled to continue, though the funerals need to be arranged, and a new High Priest/ess needs to be elected.

A brother and sister from Draconic Order are determining whether to come to the Festival (posts 2, 11).

Jason, from Theao, announces his intentions to visit Krioval (post 3), arrives (post 5), wanders aimlessly (post 10), and ultimately goes into the first level of Torokara, where problems ensue (posts 17, 19, 20, 23, 24, 26, 29, 31, 33, 36, and 38). He meets Jenai and Mikhail.

Akina Suzuki, from Der Angst, marvels at the beauty and cleanliness of Torokara, as well as that of the ocean, from Torokara's level four observation ring (post 7). She is joined by Christine Barro, a Kriovalian senator, who offers the woman a tour of the city (post 8, 15, and 16). Kolte Savren from Megas watches the women converse, identifying Akina and Christine as possible competitors (post 9).

Emperor Simon, from Snarkieness allows Constantine, Rin, and Panzer to travel to Krioval for the Festival (post 14). Alta, Simon's wife, worries that Raijin will be unprepared for their arrival. A letter to Krioval omits mention of Panzer, but whether that is due to Panzer's decision not to attend or to delay knowledge of Panzer's attendance remains to be seen (post 17). Koro Vartek, Krioval's ranking diplomat, welcomes Snarkieness's delegation, and apologizes for Raijin's inability to write due to Andruik's and Alexander's death (post 21).

Imperator Kellerman arrives from Taledonia, nearly causing a security alert in the process due to a mix-up in communications (posts 25 and 27). Koro and Darvek Tyvok, the security Director, meet Kellerman. Koro offers to escort the Imperator to some of the nicer hotels in Krioval (post 32). Kellerman will keep five guards with him in Krioval, a point that is not pressed by Krioval (post 30).

Tanara becomes involved when Race contacts Raijin to let him know that Empress Michiko Jones (Race's mother) is coming, but he conceals her status from the Commander (post 28). It is revealed that the Empress is hoping to escape temporarily from the pressures of the imperial government, which she had striven to avoid, hoping instead to keep Tanara a republic (post 28). Raijin asks who Race's mother is, hoping to know if security arrangements specifically for her are necessary (post 34). A delegate from Tarlachia, named Sigrun Greenwood is in communications with the Empress of Tenara, ostensibly to arrange a joint trip to Krioval (posts 35, 38, and 39).

Finally, Raijin had his 38th birthday on 10 June. He received a "Raijin doll" that parrots various things the Commander has said in public when a string is pulled. Raijin sagely predicts that there will be other government officials converted into similar dolls (post 6)

The current IC date/time in Krioval is 13 June 2007, early afternoon.

Cast of Characters:

Therassi, Guard Captain of Vastiva. A Master of "archaic weaponry", he holds several Regional titles in the combat arts, both armed and unarmed. For reasons unsaid (but found in another thread), he has a rather personal goal - Gain a medal, an award, a trophy - anything to bring back to Vastiva.

Alesha Naina bin Kyda (“Protected by the Strength and Eyes of God”). Avid bowman and heavy weapons specialist, this fireball's chief weakness is her impatience. She holds the rank of Risaldar (company commander) in the VAS, spending most of her time instructing recruits how not to immoliate themselves with ACRATHERM shells. "If you want to find the booms, go wehre Alesha leads" is a bit of "good advice" heard by many new conscripts into the VAS. Some of them even come back.

Gelt - more on him later.

The Vastivan Trade Delegation Otherwise known as "a disaster looking for somewhere to happen", Vastivan Trade Delegations are made up of chosen members from each of Vastiva's main industries. These positions are supposedly by secret ballot - but the backroom politicking that goes on in choosing members of a VTD makes the Roman Senate look like kindergarden.
These people have too much money and no sense at all. They also consider any "official trade mission" to be an excuse to carry on like idiots.

And they're very very good at being idiots.

Think "rednecks with more money then sense" and you're not far off.

I think Michiko shall stay away from the Vastivan element. A good bar brawl is one thing but ... ( and no insult intended to Vastiva, but this does sound like a disaster waiting to happen )...

ARGH! It moves! Fast! *Reads up* Given my average of one post/ thread * day, I might run into trouble...

Oh, for the record, while it is not impossible, it is still highly unlikely for Akina to take part in fighting competitions, seeing as she is very civil and has had more than enough of that back in DA, during the events (http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=341769) she mentioned.

So, until extraordinary circumstances show up (I.e. She's drunk (Which I intend her to be), insulted, attacked etc.., She will watch and comment.

And possibly look for a suitable mate, or two, or three... *cough*

Panzer's omission from the letter is on purpose. Part of the population of Snarkieness consists of dragons, gryphon, gargoyles and others. Panzer is a gargoyle. The nation is new and a little unsure how others will react to the non-human citizens. So Panzer will be disguised as a rather large, ugly Rottweiler. I'll get some character bios up later today or tonight.

Also, is it possible for the Snarkieness delegates to see a demonstration of high tech construction techniques?

Interesting. Of course, in a nation where about a tenth of the population is actively telepathic, it might cause a bit of a problem, but those are typically the ones who have experienced non-human intelligences before. And completely non-psionic people are in the minority of Krioval's population, though most psionics are either latent or weakly functional. Notable exceptions would be most named government officials. But they try to minimize the level of those abilities when foreigners are present.

Well the Grendel is alien, a true shape shifter and can't be read or scanned by Psionics ( it just seems to be a large, dark mobile hole in the fabric of the psionic web ) Perigrine being Neitzschean, it would take a very strong telepath to get through her naturally generated mental shields.

Michiko is a mutant, and at times has access to certain psionic abilities. She however also has psi-tech toys that keep her from being read. ( provided courtesy of long time ally Cats Keep )

Oh, Krioval, what are the laws concerning weapons carry - specifically for liscensed body guards? ( not necessarily liscensed in your country but the the country of origin )

I should mention, that post lists a total of eighteen "people"* - the three fighters and the trade delegation.

Anyone is more then free to make "background noise" with the Trade Delegacy, as long as you don't hurt the poor sots too badly. So they can be there, they can be loud, they can be revelers, whatever, to your heart's content.

Do note, Trade Delegations have no power to actually do anything - they're just "researchers on a junket". However, they can be just as swiney as a Hollywood Producer ("Yeah, baby, I'm makin' this picture...")

*Vastivans have a very hard time discussing Trade Delegates as "people". Generally people walk upright and talk sense, neither of which is guaranteed from a Trade Delegate.

Comprehensive Bio - Kolte Savren

Physical Characteristics
Sex: male
Age: 28 Terran years
Height: 6' 3''
Weight: 210 lbs.
Eye-color: brown
Hair-color: red (as in red not the orange that we call red in the RL world)
Hair-style: spiked
Build: muscular

(sorta looks like Yunsung from Soul Calibur II, but he's not Korean)

Personality Characteristics
Marital status: single
Intelligent and dangerous fighter. Doesn't speak much, very serious.

Kolte is a fallen Jedi, dismissed from the order when he fell in love with a women, who was recently killed, and hasn't smiled since her death (not literally, just trying to convey the fact that he is still torn up over her death). He has trained in over 50 styles of martial arts from different planets, and has developed trading, bardering, negotiating and smuggling skills as he has wandered the galaxies for many years. His fighting style is one of quick and accurate moves, with an equal balance of power and speed.

So, psionic abilities in Krioval are primarily biological, and involve various proteins/enzymes having the ability to capture photons and electrons at certain energy states; other processes convert the patterns into an idea (telepathy), vision (illusion), or force (telekinesis, metabolism). Advanced practitioners can modify the energy states in other beings or more globally (force of nature, telepathy). A few machines have been devised to mimic these abilities, but they are far behind the natural methods that currently exist in Krioval.

Oh, Krioval, what are the laws concerning weapons carry - specifically for liscensed body guards? ( not necessarily liscensed in your country but the the country of origin )

Krioval is usually permissive on the issue of private weapons ownership and the carrying thereof. For the Festival, carrying weapons publicly will be restricted to those who are not intoxicated or belligerent, and the police and military will be out in force to ensure that violence doesn't break out.

Thanks for that info, Krioval. Perigrine being Nietzschean and carrying the various nano load outs in her body that she does won't get intoxicated, and she doesn't drink much anyway. She may be a walking weapon in and of herself ( what properly trained warrior isn't?) but she also goes heavily armed, most of it not openly and not necessarily looking like weapons either. How ever the katana worn in a reverse sling across her back is rather obvious.

Just a quick comment: I need more information than people arriving before I can interact with those characters. Krioval is rather large and Earthbound Krioval (Torokara in particular) is especially population dense.

As for the layout (so much for the "quick" part), Krioval-on-Earth is an archipelago. Torokara is on an island by itself and essentially covers the entire surface area except for the (private) beaches. Most spacecraft dock at the Space Station Valiyos and then either arrive on the surface by teleporting, taking a Kriovalian shuttle, or using the space elevator on Mt. Valak. In any case, the airspace over Torokara is unusually clear for a major city; we tend to redirect traffic elsewhere for reasons of security but also practicality - Torokara is too big to effectively have an airport, as the planes would be hard pressed to avoid hitting buildings, and the land is a premium.

FT nations are assumed to be able to deal with teleporting. PMT nations are expected to pick it up with some level of instruction (like Vastiva). MT nations are likely to fly into a major city like Telekar or Valak and either offered teleported or sent by hovercar to Torokara (if that's where they're heading). PT nations are basically screwed, and should accelerate their research! :D

What information you need, Chief? Precision good.

All most forgot the bios :p

Panzer - Gargoyle

Height: on all fours, 5 ft
Length: 7 feet
Eyes: yellow
Hair: Dark blue-black fur
Age: unknown and he’s not telling.

Panzer is part of the elusive race called Gargoyles. Not much is know about them and it is quite possible that Panzer is the last of his kind.

Panzer bonded to Rin as she lay dying in her father’s stronghold after the final battle. The bond allows Panzer and Rin to communicate through Mind Speech (Telepathy) and Rin can also draw on Panzer’s magical energy if necessary. But the process is painful and leaves them both exhausted.

Loyal and kind, Panzer is amused by the human world. Loves children and has a strange fascination with chickens.

Panzer can change his shape, usually in the form of a large Rottwieler, to put others at ease. And to fit into smaller spaces.

Rin - Human female

Height: 5’4
Weight: 110 lb.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Red, long
Age: looks around 30 but may be older

Rin is Simon’s cousin several times removed. Her father was at one time the Emperor of Snarkieness, and nearly destroyed the country through Blood-Path magic. Rin never wanted to rule and resigned as heir in favor of Simon’s father. She was also responsible for the imprisonment of her father and restoring the throne back to Simon.

An Adept class mage. Rin is able to tap into the energy flows (ley lines) and use that power. Through her father’s manipulation, she is also closely tied to the elemental world, and has some control over the devi (elemental spirits for air, fire, water and earth).

Rin is far older than she appears. Her life has been partially extended by the magic she uses, the magical manipulation of her father, and her bond to Panzer. She remembers the birth of Simon’s father but sometimes can’t remember what was served for breakfast.

Rin still bears the mark of her father, a dragon tattoo on the right side of her face, as a reminder of those who died because of her father.

Lord Constantine - Human male

Height: 5’9
Weight: 200
Eyes: Green originally, now one green and one brown
Hair: Blond
Age: 40

Lord Constantine is Simon’s oldest friend and brother to Lady Alta, Simon’s wife. An excellent swordsman who loves a good barroom brawl as much as he loves a fancy dress party.

During the Ten Year War, Constantine was injured in an explosion that killed his older bother. Severely burned on his left side, Constantine also lost his life eye, only to have it replaced with a new eye from the man who planed the explosion, Mage Arthell.

Constantine is married to the Lady Erica as payment of a debt to her father. There is no love between them and Lady Erica hides nothing about her many affairs from her husband. Erica is also fully aware that Constantine is in love with someone else and out of honor, will not act on those feelings.

Torokara:

Level 1 - not the best section of the city, has working class houses/apartments, seedy bars, and some parts are rather dangerous, though it's improved since "Raijin's Army" (a fairly organized gang) has begun to impose order down there

Level 2 - residential, mostly, though there are a few commercial buildings here as well; mostly lower-middle to middle class and reasonably safe

Level 3 - commercial/entertainment district, including government-sponsored brothels (of all sexes); some parts are extremely tame, like suburbia, and others are a bit more rowdy - take your pick

Level 4 - mixed res/com zone (middle to upper class), and many of the schools/universities are on this level, as well as one of the observation rings and several embassies; extremely safe

Level 5 - upper class res/com zone, plus government buildings and some embassies, plus the second observation ring; bank vaults are often less secure

Level 6 - Central Command, government residences (Directors, Commander), and places for official state visits/audiences; this level is strictly invite-only

"Level 0" - underground Torokara, which doesn't really exist for the purposes of this RP, but it links most of the other cities in case of an evacuation order or other crisis; also houses backup systems for shielding systems and automated weapons

Gelt, Therassi, Alesha, and a trade delegation arrive from Vastiva (posts 40 and 50). The three are given teleport passes and make their way into Torokara, when the trade delegation promptly dissolves into the crowd (posts 53 and 54).

Race apologizes to Raijin for "neglecting" to mention that Michiko is the Empress of Tanara even as she and the Tarlachians depart for Krioval (posts 41 and 45). Raijin bitches about the difficulties of making security arrangements for incognito royalty, including his own mother (post 43). They arrive shortly thereafter (post 52), and the empress is compelled to wear strange armor. They go to a very nice hotel for their stay (post 52).

Raijin performs the funerary rites for Andruik Dova following the prescribed mourning period at sunrise on 16 June (post 64). This is broadcast throughout Krioval live, and anywhere else that allows such things to be seen. Krioval likes other nations to see both our reverence and our power. He spends the rest of the day quite upset, which mirrors the Kriovalian way of dealing with intense emotions.

Akina and Götz from Der Angst continue their discussion with Christine Barro, who brings them to a clothing store on the third level of Torokara (posts 42 and 44). Kolte from Megas leaves the observation ring after the women (and drone) teleport away (post 47). Akina's friend "creates" money for her to spend, and Götz says that Akina should buy a revealing outfit for the Festival (post 69). Christine responds by mentioning that modesty isn't a key issue in the Festival and asks which aspect Akina most wants to see (post 72).

Kolte appears to have ambivalent feelings about Akina, who reminds him of his dead wife (post 70). To banish the conflicting emotions, he strikes out for the soccer stadium, but is barraged by memories of his wife (post 72). He screams out, which attracts the attention of Krodan, a Kriovalian soccer fan (post 85).

Stunning women are apparently given free tickets to Krioval from Morethanawomen (post 46).

Jason enters the sports arena where the Torokara Slashers are playing (post 48). He watches the game and then bumps into a Vastivan trade delegate (posts 55-63). The trade delegate, Ilifat na-Omair ibn Lut ibn Mytayyib, overdramatizes the threat of thievery, but Jason dispels his fears, and they head off for a drink (posts 55-60). Ilifat asks Jason's full name for betting purposes (posts 61-63). Jason then goes to register for the fight competition (posts 74 and 85), meeting Kolte (and Krodan?) along the way (posts 77 and 78). They discuss the competition and one another's backgrounds (posts 80-84 and 86). It is revealed that there are three types of competition - unarmed, hand-to-hand, and universal. Special tech and abilities are illegal in the first two forms (post 85).

Koro takes Imperator Kellerman to the hotel Taralia (posts 49 and 53). Kellerman thanks Koro, and dismisses his guards (posts 79 and 80). Koro leaves, but silently remarks his approval on the Imperator's appearance (post 85).

Kaiana and Dracuran arrive from Draconic Order (post 51), whereupon Kaiana complains about the air quality.

Sigrun bumps into a female Kriovalian officer who shows them the location of Central Square on the third level of Krioval (posts 65, 66, 68). This is where the contests will occur. She calls another officer, Mateo, to cover her while she does this (post 71). She is then introduced to Michiko, and reveals her name is Miranda Valero (posts 75 and 85). Miranda is unaware that Michiko is an empress or from Tanara. She will assume, until otherwise informed, that Michiko and Sigrun are lovers, from Tarlachia, and that Sigrun is someone important. She offers her condolences (post 76). QUESTION: Is Michiko introduced as Michiko or Sirroco?

Continuity notice:

All further events are assumed to be occurring on 17 June or later. This is necessary to keep the RP moving along to the actual festival.

Constructive comments are appreciated.

Krioval's characters:

Raijin Dekker - Commander

Age: 38
Race: Pacific Islander
Height: 186 cm (~ 6'1")
Hair: black (short and spiked)
Eyes: brown

One of the most intense personalities in Krioval, exclusively homosexual and fiercely monogamous (except for this "Festival thing"), married to Kiv Andros; strongest telekinetic in Krioval and fifth-strongest metabolic, also functional force of nature talent

Kiv Andros - Director of Military Force

Age: 44
Race: Pacific Islander
Height: 193 cm (~ 6'4")
Hair: black (just past shoulder length)
Eyes: brown

Stabilizing force on Raijin and most experienced military tactician in the country, has had only two partners in his life (the other was a woman), disapproves mildly of the Festival; strongest telepath in Krioval and second-strongest metabolic

Darvek Tyvok - Director of Domestic Security

Age: 33
Race: White
Height: 188 cm (~ 6'2")
Hair: blond (long)
Eyes: blue

Sarcastic and volatile, yet the best in police affairs in Krioval, known for his sexual escapades with just about anything that could move and vocalize consent, and was once the ambassador to the UN before the Bralos Cathedral bombing; looks forward to the Festival for obvious reasons, though Koro will likely rein him in; strongest metabolic in Krioval

Koro Vartek - Director of Diplomacy and Trade

Age: 24
Race: Pacific Islander
Height: 186 cm (~ 6'1")
Hair: black (short and spiked)
Eyes: brown

Unauthorized clone of Raijin, though the personality is muted somewhat to the relief of others, currently involved with Darvek and pressuring him to set a wedding date (for which he's called "Raijin's Revenge); strong telekinetic and metabolic, just like Raijin, but his third talent is telepathy, which is barely active

Christine Barro - Senator (Ftr. - Torokara)

Age: 30 (which she readily admits)
Race: Asian/White
Height: 170 cm (~ 5'7")
Hair: black (long)
Eyes: green

In Parliament, she's like a left-wing version of Ann Coulter, though there are a few people who can cool the rhetoric (Kara Tyvok, Jevo Telovar, and Raijin); thinks the Festival is just what she needs right now, despite her involvement with Jevo; her talents are undisclosed

Kara Tyvok - Speaker for Parliament and Senator (Fr.K. - Torokara)

Age: 41 (which she readily lies about)
Race: White
Height: 175 cm (~ 5'9")
Hair: light brown
Eyes: hazel

The matron of Parliament who can calm and incite passions almost at will, has a reduced but still effective form of Darvek's sarcasm, owing to their being siblings, and universally approves of Koro's attempts to "civilize" her black sheep brother

Miranda Valero - Military police officer

Age: 27
Race: Black
Height: 175 cm (~ 5'9")
Hair: black
Eyes: brown

Second-generation immigrant from Africa whose family was drawn by business opportunity, successfully rising through the ranks of the military, and strives to become among those Raijin calls "valiyos"; skilled in telepathy and illusion, which may make her a strong diplomat someday

The fights will be nonlethal, though the insurance against death will be strong psionic fields. Judges will determine when intervention is appropriate, and declare victors accordingly. I haven't decided whether I'll enroll main plotline Kriovalians or whether I'll just toss everybody a few "punching bags".

Well, as to how Michiko is introduced, thats up to Sigrun, who probably introduced her as Michiko. Michiko is useing her middle name. And while Michiko would have no problem being Sigrun's lover, thats highly unlikely to happen - his current lover is extremely jealous.

*Cackles, thinks Darvek Tyvok would make an outstanding Angstian. Apart from being way taller than the average Angstian, that is*

Ahem. But yes, all very lovable people ^_^ For me, anyway.

Where was I? Ah, yes. Just a basic background for Akina.

Akina Suzuki (The Japanese usually have the surname first, but her parents turned that around, due to intermarriage with the native Angstians), Unemployed Chemical Engineer.

Age: 25
Race: Mongrel out of Japanese (75%) and Native Angstian (25%) origins, with smaller traces of chinese & Russian hidden in between
Height: 163cm
Chest: Wears a 70B.
Hair: Black/ Very dark brunette, about shoulder-long.
Eyes: Black.

Like the vast majority of Angstians, a Telepath, and (Again like the vast majority of those couple hundred million still living) she features a variety of (Hidden, decent, and generally non-disturbing) cybernetic implants (Note: Angstian Telepathy == Making Electromagnetism bend over. Think of it as a wireless connection to another brain and/ or sufficiently equipped machine. Hence, why 'Supporting' technology can be developed. It's like wanky, oversophisticated electroencephalography).

Generally a rather peaceful and decent (for Angstian standards, anyway) person, actually a little shy and not always certain (Read: Constantly insecure). Still, she is coming from an excessively hedonistic, materialistic, sarcastic, cynic, arrogant, unforgiving and pathologically non-serious society, and this background can be more or less... Felt through.

Edit: And I forgot to mention: She has nothing even remotely resembling combat/ fighting training (Compulsory military service is for the third world). She's about as civilian as I am IRL.

Are the beaches private as in home owners or resorts?

Some are held by private resorts, while others are registered under either a Director's or the Commander's name as "private"; those require a person to get a pass to visit the beach and are semi-public, though private security makes sure that people don't trash the place.

Therassi is a repeated regional champion in "archaic" weaponry and in wrestling. Man looks like a bear in leather. He's the only Vastivan known to have taken on an Antarctican Polar Bear in hand to hand combat and come out alive, relatively unwounded, and victorious.

Alesha Naina bin Kyda has military awards for hand-to-hand combat, but tends to a bit too much "excitement" in weapons combat. She also likes to blow things up, but there's no category for her "special skills" unless you want her to drop a missile on someone.

Gelt has skills in both, but isn't even pretending to be after a strong showing.

All three are entered in "Unarmed" and "Hand to Hand" contests. Therassi will likely be "entering himself" in any bar brawls or "private contests".

I'll allow it on the (contrived) premise that melee weapons don't break when they come into contact with other weapons and they are assumed to do similar levels of damage upon impact. Thus, it's not a "real" lightsaber in that it's been reduced to the same effective power as any other (typically metal) weapon. The same will be applied for weapons outside the range of what's typically considered "normal".

Let me know if it's going too fast or too slow. Also, looking at who's signed up for fights, I think I'll just skip the early rounds altogether (as a story post by me) and pass everybody interested to later rounds, unless one has a strong reason why their fighter should drop out early (like a Vastivan trade delegate?).

Don't forget that the tournament is only the first third of the overall RP. There's the late-afternoon festivities leading to the evening, and then the day following. I'd expect a number of bar fights, as well as a few surreptitious business deals launched under the veil of almost-propriety. A few fighters "taking falls" because of obscene bribes wouldn't be far off... something like:

Outside, Zerith limped into the crowd, leg still smarting - but the pain became instantly tolerable on the sight of the strange berobed man from earlier.

"Ab-shalom and greetings, my friend! You have done me and mine very very well, very well indeed!"
Zerith hmphed.
"Ah, yes, I see you are a man of great concentration..."
Also one who is going to rip your arms off and feed them to you if he's not paid "I did my part."
"Indeed. And here is my part." A small sack appears from a pocket, to disappear into the fighter's pockets. "You did want it in those funny crystals?"
"Denebian Quartz. Yes."
"Ah, excellent. Then, I assume our business is complete?" He bows "Namaste, I have other wagers to make."

Suffice it to say that I'll give everybody a day or so to catch up, I'll continue some of my subplots (any guesses on who the High Priest is going to be?), and I'll move the time reference forward.

In other words, just about anything goes, so long as people aren't killed.

Sounds good...

Description:

Name: Kaiana (Kaia)
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Height: 5'6"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/azureink/PCPortrait03_284_300.jpg

Kaiana, the second born of the First House, has a carefree, wild spirit. This is because, unlike her brother, she doesn't have much responsibility. Her attitude is that of a teenaged tomboy princess. Spoiled her entire life by their loving father. She, like all other heirs, has been trained in many fighting styles. She prefers the sword over any other weapon, thinking it majestic and untainted, a true warrior's weapon.

Name: Dracuran (Drac)
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Height: 6'4"

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/azureink/PCPortrait01_284_300.jpg

Dracuran, the first born of the First House, is the opposite of his younger sister. He is cold and disciplined, rarely getting into fights, but always ending them. Usually after inflicting severe injuries to the one who opposed him. He is always at odds with his sister, whom he sees as not worthy of the title born to her. His single minded ambition is to become Duke so that he can finally be in control of his life, and those that most annoy him (especially his sister).

I'll post the end of one of their fights. Any particular way we're supposed to figure out who wins which if we run into each other? I know of an online, checkable dice roller.... :D

If anyone has seen "Brewster's Millions" you have a good idea about Trade Delegates and money. While I realize the actual Festival begins in two days, the irrepressable are at it in force.

(Er.... anyone know of a freighter we can rent?)

Keep in mind that news of the Vastivan trade delegation will spread like wildfire, and that Krioval is an extremely mobile society when it comes to trade. Any stores in the potential path of them will have orbital resupply ships waiting for them to spend and go before restocking, though there will be some lag. And wiping out a church? LOL.

As to the tournament, if people want to start the bracketing themselves, that's fine. That can be done here or privately, but I'd like the requests to be put here so I can do the final version some time tomorrow. In the meantime, I'll announce a High Priest, setting up the intrigue that will likely follow his selection, and preparing for both the tournament and the *other* part of the Festival. Then there's the scientific part after, for those interested (nothing says "fun" like watching a demonstration of a hypersonic centrifuge after a night of drinking, debauched sex, and having not slept, huh?). :D

One other thing, directed to Vastiva. Would it be possible for Raijin to find out how Therassi kept Medea by swordpoint (possibly through some telepathic screen)? If so, the tournament just got that much more interesting, though I'd probably have to contrive Therassi's reaching a high level of one bracket, if not winning outright. As far as I'm concerned, the Commander doesn't have to win, he just has to not lose. A draw would be acceptable, followed by a gain of respect on both sides. Let me know.

Also, Kriovalian corporations would probably be willing to offer free shipping on orders that large if for no reason other than to encourage further rampant consumerism.

Why do I have the feeling that we shall see more fighting during the 'after' parts than during the tourney itself?

because sometimes its safer to fight than have.....?...or is it simply easier?

[QUOTE=Krioval]Raijin's Army, a gang in the slums of Torokara, appears interested in maintaining order during the upcoming festival (post 1).

Jason asks if the fights are to be lethal or nonlethal (post 86). Answer: nonlethal. The Vastivan champions sign up for the competition, but avoid the third category (post 87). The trade delegates have managed to not obliterate Krioval. Jason and the Vastivans discuss the trade delegates, who are originally assumed to have caused some devastation (posts 88-90). Jason reassures the Vastivans that the delegate has done no harm (post 94). Conversation then moves to introductions and the tournament in general (posts 99 and 100). Gelt indicates a desire to "go clubbing" after the tournament, causing Therassi no small amount of discomfort (posts 102-105).

While the Vastivan trade delegates aren't obliterating Krioval, they're doing their best to buy out portions of it (post 121). This causes the Kriovalian stock exchange to rise (post 126).

Akina continues to deliberate over what to wear to the festival, with Christine pointing out the two extremes in modesty (posts 91 and 97). She also worries/hopes that Kolte has some interest in her. Akina ultimately decides on the modest outfit, buying it and beginning to walk off. Götz and Christine conspire to purchase the "red dress" and ensure that Akina has access to it during the Festival (posts 119 and 128).

Sigrun and Michiko separate, with Sigrun going to register for the tournament (post 92). He reflects on ths strangeness of wanting to fight, considering his history of near-constant battle (post 116). Michiko indicates a desire to go to a high-class salon, and reflects on how her empire is often restrictive in her movement (post 93). Miranda suggests level 5 (post 98). Michiko finds a way to duck her escort and go, alone with Miranda, to the fifth level (posts 114 and 122).

A Tekanian ship arrives in Krioval and is directed to Tekelar (posts 95 and 101). The Tekanians provide their documentation to Krioval's border guards (post 108).

Kaia attempts to register for the tournament, but is rebuffed by Drac (post 107).

Kolte responds to Krodan, but doesn't leave much for the big soccer fan to do, other than tag along for the moment (post 110). Kolte and Jason discuss the tournament in the Square (posts 111 and 112). Kolte then enters the stadium to watch the Slashers play (post 115).

Michiko's guards and Jason meet up near the tournament registration booth, and discuss the contest (posts 117, 118 and 120). Peregrine introduces herself, causing a markedly negative reaction from the other guard, who disapproves of her interest in Jason (post 123). They continue their discussion (posts 124, 125, and 127).

The selection process for High Priest begins on 18 June (post 113). Elena Tikal declines the post, as do many of the priests present, causing a problem in choosing a suitable candidate. Ultimately, though it's not likely to be revealed how, Koro Vartek is selected as High Priest (post 126) on the next day. Koro is shocked and upset at the added responsibility, though he's reassured by Raijin that he's up to the challenge. Not all priests are content with the choice, however, and there are murmurings of taking Koro out of commission (post 126).

The date is now 19 June, and the time is late morning/early afternoon. The festival is now two NS days away.

Yes, he could - Therassi has no protection against such things here. And I'm all for a draw.

Well, without his talents, Raijin's just this side of Sucksville when it comes to combat. With his talents, he's practically unbeatable. So he'll likely engage his talents just enough to put on a show. This is especially necessary if Therassi wins, because Raijin will feel that his honor is slighted unless they meet on the tournament grounds first.

I can see it now... "Free shipping? Good! We'll take two ships. No, make that four ships."

As for the bracket thing, it doesn't really matter to me. As somebody already said somewhere (forgive my laziness to find the quote) most of the good action is going to take place the night after, with tempers flaring, tensions high, and booze flowing. LOL Vastiva, you mean that Sinjin is the only one with a harem?
Vastiva
25-04-2005, 01:58
Well, how to answer this...

In Vastiva, slavery is patently illegal - it's a "have fun swimming with the sharks" offense. However, there is nothing wrong with selling yourself into what amounts to slavery (we believe anyone can do with their own bodies as they please), though we do have a contract board on the subject, there are certain standards of law and protocol to be followed - such as you do have to pay them, feed them, and so forth.

So others can have what amount to harems, under these contract laws.

However, if you are speaking of the Hareem - there's one, and it belongs to the Sultan, and if you don't like it there's a wooden block over there you can bend over for a bit, there's a good *thwock*

You can *mimic* it, but it's not *quite* the same. The Sultan can out of hand have any - or all - members of the Harem killed, sold, or whatever meets his fancy. No one else can.

Some are held by private resorts, while others are registered under either a Director's or the Commander's name as "private"; those require a person to get a pass to visit the beach and are semi-public, though private security makes sure that people don't trash the place.

Yup, a dirigible. Seeing how late we are arriving from Snarkieness...Rin's gonna push the air ship with some elemental help. And the eager-to-please help is going to push too hard. Add in some damage for an air ship that needs to land now, some where, any where.

The dolls interact when in the proximity of one another. For example, put Koro and Darvek together (within ~ 0.5 m), and trigger Darvek, you can get:

"One at a time, ladies, please." (Darvek's basic phrase)

"You'd better be referring to autographs."

"Heh. Forgive the occasional impure thought?"

"Forgiveness is attained through immersion. About five minutes should suffice."

Combining Raijin and Kiv, and triggering Raijin can give:

"Valiyos, be strong!" (Raijin's basic phrase)

"As opposed to what?"

"Uh...well...ya know."

"Big dumb fighter. Who could ask for anything more?"

So, how are we going about the tourney?

I'll randomize the "seeds" tonight and post them, adding either redshirts (if the number for the category is high) or actua Kriovalian fighters (if the number for the category is low). I'll then determine bonuses and penalties depending on the characters' descriptions, so more detail is better (and yes, most of the information is somewhere on this thread). I ask that everybody avoid overpowering their characters, of course.

As to resolving battles, I can either do that randomly (die roll - verifiable or otherwise), the two opponents can discuss things amongst themselves (or amongst oneself if both are from the same nation) to determine the outcome, or a neutral third party can do it. I leave the decision to everybody posting so far. Let me know as soon as possible.

I'll try to resolve two rounds of the tournament each day until all the fights are completed, so a category with 8 contestants will be over in a day and a half if everything works according to schedule (and as we all know, this is always the case - yeah right).

While the tournament is ongoing, there are other events still taking place in Torokara, so other IC posting during the tournament itself is encouraged, though characters being in multiple places simultaneously is discouraged. Immediately after the tournament, there'll be some "dead time" (a few hours) before the *other* part of the Festival begins at sunset.

Cool. I figured that you wouldn't mind too much, but there's not much time left before the grand festivities begin in earnest. Besides, a few character RPs on II serve as a nice distraction from all the genocide and military stats RPs (not that there's anything wrong with those if they're well done - but most are poorly overdone).

I know that I'm a noob, but I would like to sign up and work out a sub-plot with Megas. Not as a entrant in your tourney, but it would eventually lead to a fight between us. We already have an RP going between two of our characters, "ATTN Megas: Sith Duel Challenge", check it out if you want to see our chemistry together. Anyway, this sub-plot would involve my character being Kolte's former Jedi Master who also happens to be the murderer of Kolte's fiancee. Let me know whatcha think.

Accepted, but keep it civilized. No blowing up half of Torokara, or killing one another without express written permission, please. :p

Naturally, it would also require Megas to sign on and impose whatever conditions would be needed for it to work. Also, if Kolte and Akina are brought together, I'd like some input from Der Angst as well, though that's a secondary concern to me at present, given the presence of Christine and Krodan (both mine). To make a long reply longer, make sure it's worked out in advance, preferably here.

Welcome to my insanity! :D

Thank you. In truth, Megas and myself are good friends and see each other a lot, so working it out won't be much of a problem. As for the whole killing of each other, my character would probably be the one to bite the dust, with which I have no problem. And don't worry about my being over powerful, he'll be a former Jedi Master, but weaker than Kolte...I think. :D

Without breaking his stride, he stepped upward, his feet leaving the ground as he ascended as if walking on stairs. Passerby's stopped to stare and wonder at the skill of such a creature.

For reference's sake, many Kriovalians are telekinetic, though few are of sufficient faculty to perform such a feat without exertion. Commander Raijin and Director Koro do it all the time. So, while it isn't a common occurrence, it's also not completely rare, and would probably merit a sidelong glance and a few comments, but not a cessation in daily activities.

Raijin particularly likes "flying" from level 6 Torokara to various other (lower) cities when he has to go somewhere to the point that he has his own callsign, "Krioval Zero".

Shu'aa na-Daanish Mash'al is demonstrating part of the reason there's a hole left behind them when they're done - everyone knows they have money. As a general result, the populace equally protects them ("Hey, they have money, I hang around, I get money") and tries to bilk them (obvious). The obvious result then begins to snowball.

The delegates themselves are completely ignorant of this going on, by design or sheer elegant density. But this isn't the worst of it.

Well, Krioval's constantly making sure that they money in question is secured before granting such transactions, and since the bulk of the purchases involve manufactured goods, the influx of money is going to be turned back around for military and colonizing equipment. The delegates will likely expand the Kriovalian empire by five or six planets when this is all done - by themselves. Watch them get the cover of 'Ahead of Time' magazine for 'most influential people in Krioval 2007'.

Oh crap! The bracketing! I was going to do that today. Hell. Thanks for the indirect reminder - I'll be home most of tomorrow, and I'll take care of it then.

Now, to answer the actual question, the different tournaments will happen separately. "Universal" will go first, because the goal's to draw as big a crowd as possible for the whole thing. Then the unarmed, and finally the melee.

Also, if Kolte and Akina are brought together, I'd like some input from Der Angst as wellOh, I'm absolutely for it (For the record, Megas TGed about such a few days earlier). Seeing as the two have about as different characters as is humanly possible (And seeing as Akina still thinks Kolte is a potential rapist), the effects should be... Hilarious, to say the least :P

Especially if Akina's already had a few drinks before he arrives... Although this might shock him 'a little' much.

Naxder drol and I have been working on it and I think it would be a good developing plot, especially because I plan on using this character alot more.

Basically, his character (don't know the name yet) has been following Kolte for a while now, from planet to planet. Somehow Kolte will spot him the night after the fights. When confronted by Kolte, Naxder drol's character will explain that he killed Julina because she was the reason that Kolte betrayed the Jedi Order and him. This would be especially interesting if Akina got caught in the middle...

The idea would be just as he says...

My character is Xander Voltare, Kolte's former Jedi Master. He has kept tabs on Kolte since the young Knight's expulsion from the Order, and now hopes to confront him at the Festival of Fighters. Kolte's expulsion dragged Xander into an abyss of depression for Kolte had been like a son to him. He became disillusioned with the Order, and renounced his commision shortly after Kolte's expulsion. He arrives on Earth with a secret that he must share with Kolte so that the young former Jedi can move on with his life. He senses Kolte's location through the Force, and follows it to him. Anyone have anything negative to say?

Acceptable, though the psionic background in Krioval would make it difficult to sense just about anybody else (just FYI). You're bound to run into him, the gigantic soccer fan, the senator, and Akina, so it'll be interesting, that's for sure.

Being the only Jedi present, I assume your talking about Kolte. Yes, an interesting battle indeed. Especially so because he possesses the power of Living Protoculture (from the anime series Robotech). He uses the Force to channel it, and it gives him a much wider variety of abilities than a normal Jedi or Sith.

Where I am right now, it's twenty minutes until nine in the evening. I'm going to arbitrarily make the cutoff for signing up for the tournament tomorrow morning whenever I roll out of bed, which safely allows anybody to enter their character for another twelve hours (and with some risk for up to fourteen hours from now). I already have a random system to do the bracketing. I'll post both here and IC that registration is closed in the morning, then I'll spend the few minutes making sure the brackets work, and those will go up afterward. I hope that's helpful.

The list compiled by Megas is, in fact, more detailed than my original was, so that list is the one I'm using for now (see above, post #148 on this thread).

Summary post will also happen either tonight or tomorrow, as a result of which I'll "push time forward" again.

Right then. Tournament entry is now closed. TG me if there are objections or extenuating circumstances that delayed a post, but I guarantee nothing at this point.

Matchups are as follows:

Unarmed: (6 contestants)

Therassi (Vastiva) vs. Alesha(Vastiva)
Gelt (Vastiva) vs. Darvek (Krioval)
Kolte (Megas) vs. Jason (Theao)

Darvek will likely lose, and he'd originally hoped to be matched up with Alesha, so that leaves the Kolte vs. Jason fight to be worked out between both players involved (I trust that Vastiva can resolve a battle between its own characters!). I have no idea how three fighters will deal with the second round except to pad the roster with more Kriovalians, so if latecomers want in on this (up to 2), I'll be lenient.

Universal: (3 contestants)

Free for all - Kolte (Megas) vs. Sigrun (Tarlachia) vs. Jason (Theao)

Melee: (6 contestants)

Jason (Theao) vs. Alesha (Vastiva)
Gelt (Vastiva) vs. Therassi (Vastiva)
Kaia (Draconic Order) vs. Kolte (Megas)

This is the competition where Therassi is likely to meet ????. Can you tell I've played too many video games?

The order of the competitions is as listed here, not what I mentioned earlier. It makes more sense to have the free-for-all be like a "halftime show" since it's only one round (at least to me).
Megas

Kolte's full abilities can and will only be tapped in the universal competition, so I'd be willing to 'lose' fairly early in the other two if a 1st or 2nd place could be compromised for the universal.

I'm going to try to leave it to the players involved to make this work out (telegrams work great, since they don't reveal the outcome to everybody else). If this is how it works, though, everybody needs to agree on not only outcome but how it's going to be RP'd. Of course, I can use the random die roller Vastiva mentioned earlier if the cooperative venture becomes difficult.

And yes, I would expect that a single person isn't going to win all three contests, so plan accordingly.

The Longest Day in NS History Continues

Christina, Akina, and Götz make their way to a Krioval-centric restaurant near the soccer stadium. The dress switch plot is on, of course, and Akina is poised to run into Kolte again. Match alert!

Speaking of Kolte, he's in the same restaurant with big soccer fanatic Krodan, who's just showed the other man how to 'activate' and then chug a 'firecracker'. Kolte's former Jedi master has also arrived on the scene, and has offered to assist Kolte - but we're warned OOC that a subplot is emerging.

Jason and Perigrine are also enjoying a meal at a different venue, and are deeply interested in the hallucinogenic properties of spices. Match alert!

Michiko and Miranda made their way through various shops in Torokara, though their fun was interrupted by a Vastivan trade delegate, who has been hitting on the clerks and models in a high-class fashion boutique (more on this later). Match alert? After leaving, they bump into Sigrun, who asks about a crystal figure of a monument. Miranda takes them to the Parliament building, where they are momentarily distracted by a statue of Raijin. This prompts Sigrun to tease Michiko about her cover identity, which causes Michiko to scream at and then kiss him. Match alert - false alarm! Michiko runs off in horror (more on this later). Sigrun and Miranda go for a drink, where Miranda replays the bizarre scene over and over in her mind. She then recommends the 'firecracker'.

The aforementioned Vastivan trade delegate eventually departs for a museum, where the curators are busy creating 'high-end merchandise' to unload on the unsuspecting man. However, managed to provoke Lucinda Salazar (cousin of Tevak Salazar, the soccer player - not mentioned in the IC thread) to call on the Vastivan champions. Gelt comes to the rescue, though it turns out that his presence isn't necessary. Well, it's not a total loss, I suppose - he's got an invitation to Lucinda's gardens. Match alert!

Lord Constantine, Rin, and Panzer arrive as their airship crashlands in Torokara. Nobody's hurt, and they make their way to the third level to recuperate in a nice hotel.

Michiko runs into Slasher, the ninja, who manages to make her feel even worse about her situation before absconding to Valak. On his way, Raijin chews him out for being a total ass, and makes the man return to Torokara to fix the situation. Well, it looks like Michiko's receptive, and who knows what Slasher's really thinking... Match alert!

Of course, this means that Raijin is forced to deal with Koro's initiation rite to formally become High Priest. But poor Koro's worried that Darvek isn't quite as interested as he used to be (as it turns out, he's seeing women on the side - unmentioned and unsurprising, as that's why Raijin left him years ago). Add to that Raijin's (unmentioned) marital problems, and we can probably figure out where this is going. Match alert... and two days early. This can only end in tears (for someone, at least).

COUPLE ODDS:

Akina/Kolte - 5:1
Akina/Christine - 25:1 (yes, this was mentioned IC, but only as a thought)
Christine/Jevo - 1:1 (well, they're dating after all)
Krodan/anyone - 40:1
Vastivan trade delegate/shop models - 2:1 (it doesn't have to be posted - really!)
Perigrine/Jason - 8:1
Michiko/Sigrun - 100:1
Michiko/Slasher - 3:1 (you know they both want it)
Lucinda/Gelt - 1:1 (could they be much more obvious?)
Darvek/[X] number of women - X:1 (the beginning of the end)
Raijin/Koro - 1:100 (save your money - this one's definite)

NON-TOURNAMENT FIGHT ODDS:

Kolte/Xander - 1:10
Slasher/Therassi - 1:1
Anyone else/Therassi - 1:1
Koro/Darvek - 3:1
Raijin/Kiv - 1:1 (hell hath no fury...)
Michiko/Slasher - 20:1 (he could say the entirely wrong thing)
Adele Kriov/anybody - 4:1

CONTINUITY

Michiko's conversation with Slasher happens before Raijin reaches Mt. Valak. It doesn't make sense otherwise. Delegates from Snarkieness arrive during the day, not late evening. Beyond that, it's getting late on the 19th, and Raijin and Koro's 'meeting' will drag on through the night and into the morning of the 20th.

Just a little spoiler for anyone who hasn't picked up on it, Xander and Kolte will duel each other at the end of the Festival because Xander will reveal to Kolte the monumental secret he has kept from him since the younger Jedi's lover Julina was murdered. Megas and myself already know the outcome, but we plan on making everyone watch Xander and Kolte's friendship prosper beforehand so that it will be that much more emotional... ;)

It makes more sense to have the free-for-all be like a "halftime show" since it's only one round (at least to me).

gotcha

Point of information:

Andretara Monastery is where most of the religious and esoteric training goes on. Raijin was made a paladin there while Slasher became a ninja. Micah personally trained Raijin, while Slasher's master died of a disease about ten years earlier. They're perfectly safe (if not more safe) than being with Slasher alone. They also don't tend to release information to 'outsiders', so the authorities shouldn't become involved unless something is terribly wrong.

Well, my latest post is the Raijin/Koro scene of *doom* (though they don't do anything other than talk - however suggestively). I feel vaguely guilty inflicting a male/male love scene of any kind on my readers, but then, if I'm going to *write* male/female stuff (no experience on my part whatsoever), then everybody else can suffer! And yes, the 14-year age difference is vaguely unsettling, but that's Krioval for you! :p

Krioval
29-04-2005, 07:32

On a totally unrelated note, I'd like an update on which players have already resolved their RPs for the tournament (not the outcomes, but just a "yeah, we're ready and waiting).

Continuity warning - there are too many split timelines for my taste. All Kriovalian characters, including Miranda and Slasher (though possibly excluding Krodan) are now up to predawn hours on the 20th. At 6:00 am, emergency powers go into effect, not that that should affect people overmuch, but it's there. Those people still stuck on the 19th should at least get to late evening so I can get the tournament done before the RL month of May is over!

He's in his late forties, early fifties, has an equal amount of gray hair mixed with his black hair, has a full gray beard, brown eyes, very lined face. About 6'0" tall, maybe 175 lbs. (like it can be turned off)

Anyway, Kriovalian AI is designed to be infuriating if you're not supposed to be meddling with it. Among its defenses is the 'information overload'. Documents are submitted to the central network and assigned a number. To gain access, one needs to make a request or else the entire thing dumps non-secured connections. There are also replicate networks to add to the confusion. However, once a request is made, a 'random' document matching the criteria is brought up, based on information sensitivity and Raijin's vindictive sense of humor. Given enough time, the encyclopedia entries and news stories will be cleared, allowing access to the 'cute' poems. Once those clear, one things that one is getting to the meat of the network, only to be truly annoyed by lines at the bottom that proclaim "This is total bullshit."

Eventually, the network decides to reset a connection that's been active for 'too long'. In all cases, sensitive inquiries are directed straight to the Commander (or highest present Director) who can allow or deny the access, or redirect it as their sadistic whim dictates. Kiv will stonewall you, Raijin or Koro will lead you through a variety of useless data in the hopes of dumping all irrelevant parts of Krioval's database, encrypted, onto another person's network, and Darvek will simply redirect you to hardcore porn sites.

However, if you know exactly what you're looking for and have authorization to get it, access is extremely efficient. :D

I guess our other protection against this stuff is that the really, really sensitive stuff is kept in a tiny network physically walled off from the rest of Krioval (it's in the capital). The rest can typically be accessed if one has sufficient resources (DLE's stuff could probably compromise a good deal of mine, but then, I might also be able to resist it or delay it long enough to react).

As for the embassy, I suppose that's long overdue. You get a nice one - fifth level. Now all I have to do is convince people to accept a stint in Antarctica. Perhaps some native Andretarans or Valakers - people who at least know what 'snow' is.

Is it just me, or is there a strange relationship brewing between Akina, Xander, Kolte, and Christine? Maybe even Krodan? Let's examine each known relationship so far.

Xander/Kolte: Kolte is a former Jedi Knight and was an apprentice under Xander, who is a former Jedi Master. They are good friends, and share a father/son relationship.

Kolte/Akina: Akina reminds Kolte of his dead Julina, and Kolte creeped Akina out until she had a run-in with him and Xander at the bar, but she still has her reservations about him. Kolte, on the other hand, is currently the emotional equivalent of a derailed train.

Akina/Christine: Flirting going on something much more serious?

Christine/Krodan: Old friends?

Krodan/Kolte: Drinking buddies?

Xander/Akina: Akina seems to have taken a liking to Xander, if only for his drinking prowess, resemblence to her grandfather, and gentleman-like qualities.

For all those involved, feel free to scream and cuss at me if I got something completly bass-ackwards. I could use a good yelling at, it would break up the monotony of being alone all weekend... :(

As for the "redshirts", I'll probably post something to the effect of:

The tournament was in full swing. Already in the first two rounds, so many would-be great fighters had been handed defeat, some without much of a struggle at all. For those so ignominiously brought down, their names would likely be forgotten to the festivalgoers. However, all eyes were drawn to [insert names here], who had made it to the final rounds.

I'd like to hold it anywhere from as early as tonight to as late as Monday, as I have the feeling that most of it's been worked out. I can switch the order of competitions if it's absolutely necessary, though that creates a few plotline issues for me to resolve. In any case, it should come together *soon*, as there's the "informal" stuff that follows, not to mention "surprise" battles.

Complete sympathy Vastiva. Want a 'rita to unwind with or something single malt?

All those in the bar with Xander and Kolte, we need to move it along I believe. My last post is Xander striking up a conversation with Akina, but we might have to agree to skip ahead to dawn the next day just so we can keep up with everyone else. What do you guys (or girls) think?

Well, thanks to the miracle of flextime, they can either stick with the 19th or we can just pretend that they're sitting there on the 20th. The tournament is on the 21st, so as long as it's resolved before then, it works.

Ah yes, flextime. I am deeply relieved to hear that. It makes things so much more simpler, and gives me room to flex my creative muscle. Wow, I was almost in a state of depression when I posted last time because I'm looking forward to seeing if a warped love-triangle develops between Akina, Kolte, and Xander. Oh the posibilities... :D

The key is the story. Everything gets sacrificed in order to make the story better. If it means having to do things to the timeline that would make Einstein cry in abject horror, it's done. If it means that characters need to be in multiple places at the same time, they're suddenly in multiple places at "different" times. Saves everybody a lot of energy. Just focus on making the story engaging and most people won't pay attention to the temporal anomalies. :D

You're my new best friend. I whole-heartidly agree with you. I had originally meant to create Xander just to help accentuate Kolte's story, but now he's taken on a life of his own just about. I've developed a soft spot for the damned wino. It's cool though. This is the kind of stuff I'm good at. I should be a writer. If I'm doing a good job, that is... :D

Thats the truly cool part about it, man. We can simply take stuff from our warped and twisted imaginations and put it on the screen. I should have been doing this years ago, my life may have turned out a little bit differently...

You know when you are in way to deep in the Rp when you are seeing it on the movie screen in your head, not just the projection of imagination.

You also know that you've created a character worth keeping around if you know almost everything about him without having to really think about it. It just flows from your mind to your hands to the keyboard without stopping. Xander has a certain escense to him that appeals to me for some reason. He's a character that I would like to know in RL. Know the feeling?

Bears (non-polar) repetition with slight modification:

Tournament entry is now closed.
Matchups are as follows:

Unarmed: (6 contestants - known victors in bold)

Therassi (Vastiva) vs. Alesha(Vastiva)
Gelt (Vastiva) vs. Darvek (Krioval)
Kolte (Megas) vs. Jason (Theao)

Universal: (3 contestants)

Free for all - Kolte (Megas) vs. Sigrun (Tarlachia) vs. Jason (Theao)

Melee: (6 contestants)

Jason (Theao) vs. Alesha (Vastiva)
Gelt (Vastiva) vs. Therassi (Vastiva)
Kaia (Draconic Order) vs. Kolte (Megas)

Slasher (Krioval) vs. Therassi (Vastiva) - will end in draw and is technically outside the tournament

???? vs. ???? - also not part of the tournament

The order of the competitions is as listed here, not what I mentioned earlier. It makes more sense to have the free-for-all be like a "halftime show" since it's only one round (at least to me).

Two questions, one what is considered a resonable time before it is counted as a forfit and two how would be best to deal with timezone conflicts?

COUPLE ODDS - adjusted:

Akina/Kolte - 4:1 (was 5:1) - now that they've finally met...
Akina/Christine - 15:1 (was 25:1) - possibility mentioned OOC *twice* and IC once
Christine/Jevo - 10:1 (was 1:1) - Jevo? Who's that?
Krodan/anyone - 30:1 (was 40:1) - well, he *is* surrounded by people
Vastivan trade delegate/shop models - 12:1 (was 2:1) - Seems he's more interested in shopping (and he's *straight*?!)
Perigrine/Jason - already happened (was 8:1)
Michiko/Sigrun - 101:1 (was 100:1) - I guess someone in this RP has to have honor
Michiko/Slasher - 10:1 (was 3:1) - Death from embarrassment? Maybe she'd still settle for the "little death"
Lucinda/Gelt - already happened - at least twice (was 1:1) - Could they be much more obvious? Apparently not
Darvek/[X] number of women - X/2:1 (was X:1) - Now that he's free...
Raijin/Koro - already happened - at least *four* times (was 1:100) - Kriovalians still lead most of the world in efficiency, after all

NON-TOURNAMENT FIGHT ODDS:

Kolte/Xander - 1:100 (was 1:10) - I think we can call this definite now
Slasher/Therassi - 1:100 (was 1:1) - Ironic that Krioval's honor gets mentioned at this stage, though
Anyone else/Therassi - 1:1 (was 1:1) - Drinking and tension. What a delightful combination
Koro/Darvek - 8:1 (was 3:1) - Darvek's too much a pushover to piss off Koro
Raijin/Kiv - 1:5 (was 1:1) - Wouldn't you?
Michiko/Slasher - 10:1 (was 20:1) - Make love *and* war?
Adele Kriov/anybody - 2:1 (was 4:1) - Family feud brewing?
Perigrine/Slasher - 4:1 (new entry) - Didn't she want to nuke him from orbit? Of course, she's *busy* at the moment...

Two questions, one what is considered a resonable time before it is counted as a forfit and two how would be best to deal with timezone conflicts?

People have been figuring these things out for several days now (I hope!), so I think it's reasonable to cap the planning phase of this on Monday night. Normally, I'd have said "next day", but some people may not have reliable access to NS on weekends. Now, by "Monday night", what I mean is at or before 11 pm Pacific time. That would be about 48 hours from now. I'd like a "progress update" some time tomorrow night before the same time, but that's not as critical.

If that deadline is absolutely impossible, I need to know as early as possible. I'd like to get through the tournament to the other aspects of the festival, though it appears that plenty of characters have had no problems with starting a bit early!

IIRC, Tarlachia had entered Sigrun only in the "universal" competition. Thus, if the unarmed version (round 1) is determined, we can proceed with that as early as tonight or tomorrow morning.

I believe Theao and I have figured out our fight...
Krioval
02-05-2005, 23:08
Sounds like a plan. I'll accelerate the storyline so that tomorrow morning matches with the 21st. We can begin with the unarmed competition, first round. If people know the outcomes, they can proceed to the next round, which will (unfortunately for the numbers) have three contestants.

If I may be so bold, I think one way to do it is to have the Vastivan contestants match up (after Darvek loses - he'll be a pushover*, and he only entered on the off chance of being matched to a woman and being able to grope) until there's one left. That winner can then square off with the winner of Jason vs. Kolte to determine the victor of the unarmed competition.

I hear that Universal is almost decided, but I'd like to hear confirmation on that before pushing forward.

Hand-to-hand is last, so that can have until tomorrow night or Wednesday morning to come together, but that (I hope) should be going on about then. That leaves the rest of the stuff to close out the RP.

* Liberties can be taken here so long as Darvek's not completely messed up. He's more a playboy than serious fighter, so he's more worried about how it looks than actually pulling off a win. He may even say something to that effect before the contest begins.

Hey Krioval, Xander and Kolte's duel is supposed to take place after the Festival is over, so we need a place and time to do it so that we don't conflict with other storylines.
