Taren taps another button as the glass screens pull away, and the creatures look around. "Welcome to life, buddies. I'll be with you guys in a second, I have to make sure they don't do something stupid..." Taren walks over and pulls the AT-4 out of his hand, "Yes, this is an AT-4. And I'm not letting any of YOU touch this. This is for either them, or me. We're the only ones who know the facility well enough to not take the entire place out with this. As for something that can lay down damage on the big guys, try this on for size." Taren picks up a shoulder-mounter, something that has a thick, obvious belt feed, before pulling up a string of also Sidewinder-sized missiles. "RPM-89. 60 rounds per minute, buddy. Armor-piercing, but high-explosive sabot. Pierces and splits, then explodes. Tends to make things turn into clouds. If you don't like that, then take the risk in using this..." Taren pulls out another gun, with a thick energy at the butt of the rifle-sized gun, with thick band near the end of the barrel. "Prototype. Creates a small chunk of plasma inside and electromagnetic bubble and launches it. Your choice of the two."

OOC: Count Yuri prefers to use automatic pistols and SMG's. As you saw before, it is very dangerous to let him near explosives or plasma guns .

IC: Count Yuri walked to an ammo rack, grabbing several clips of 11mm bullets and reloading his custom auto-pistols. "Hey Taren, there wouldn't happen to be anything like an MP-5 around here would you?"

Taking notice of the newly awakened creatures, the Count seemed rather surprised by their good behavior. "Well I'll be damned," Count Yuri said to himself. "They actually aren't attacking us. At least something created down here isn't psychotic."

"So, do you think they will be willing to fight against those insect-things that had been attacking us," Count Yuri asked Taren as he continued to reload his guns.

"Yuri, try my P90," Black said. "Looks like I might be getting an upgrade." He considered a moment. The RPM-89 looked extremely bulky; on the other hand, he didn't trust prototypes, especially energy weapons. "How safe is that plasma weapon?" he asked.
Frost was looking at the creatures--though perhaps that wasn't quite the right word. They were obviously products of bio-engineering, but they did look much more...human than the monsters outside. Hell, he was fighting alongside a demon and a vampire; what harm is there in trusting a few more freaks? he thought.
This didn't appear to be the room they were created in--more like a storage area. Nevertheless, their presence here suggested that the facility's bio-labs were not far off. "Taren, when your people designed the creatures, did they create a vaccine or antidote for the mutagenic bacteria they secrete?" he asked.
General Drake, meanwhile, was again looking at the creatures. "Well, the more allies, the better," he said, turning back to the human (and supernatural) members of the group. "I'm satisfied. Let's kick down some doors."

"Hey," exclaimed Marenus, "if no one else wants the RPM, i'll take it. This Desert Eagle is pretty good against the smaller things, but i'm almost out of bullets."
Marenus' voice lowered to a murmur.
"Plus...umm...it means I can give you all covering fire with it...."
Jant looked at him for a second then laughed.
"HA! That's why you want it! It means you don't have to go as close to the creatures! Ha ha! Don't worry, this is your first time in combat. Don't expect to be an action hero! Hey, Taren, can he use the thing? I don't think either of us needs an energy weapon, i've already got mine and I don't trust Marenus here not to blow himself up with one ("No offence" muttered Jant"). At least that thing just means aiming it at the general direction of whatever aint us and holding the trigger."

OOC: It seems that tragedy has struck agaim. This great thread is about to die :(. Reeve and Mooty seem to have disappeared from the thread as well as some other characters. However, this RP really needs to be carried through to a conclusion, as Count Yuri is still here. If he is permanently killed (like getting staked through the heart or eaten by a giant bug), it will have a major impact on a civil war RP I have been planning.

IC: Yuri takes the P90 that Black was offering him. Checking the alignment of the sights and making sure it was loaded, the Count thanks Black. Sitting on ome rubble, Count Yuri enjoys the moment of peace from the insect things. He still had an uneasy feeling about the newest of Taren's creations, but who was he to judge them for their monster-like appearence, being a vampire himself.

The creatures stirred, most impassive, except for the one in the center, who glared around the room. Taren just chuckled, as the creature spoke up in a suprisingly normal voice, "Well, if you insist on refering to us in the third person, we WON'T help you. We don't give a damn about you." The creature, seemingly a he, turned to Taren, "Are they always like this?". "As far as I can tell, yep. Just calm down, get yourself a weapon, and get comfortable with it. You can have the AT-4, you're trained for demo. Take some Spines and grenades and we can open up the doors." Taren tosses over the AT-4 to the creature, who looks over it, flicking the safety on and off, before pulling up what looks like a shortened chaingun set onto a gauntlet.

[OOC]: NOOOO! The thread must not die >.<

IC:Jant stifled a laugh.
"I'm sorry, but these things talk too?"
Marenus held his face in his hands, making a mental note to tell their new allies that he certainly didn't know Jant and had never met him before in his life.
"I mean, what, we've got talking insects with us? Sure, they're human if you look at them in poor light, even if they do have that godawful tail, but they're still just those things out there with a speech center added. Sure, i'll welcome their help, but are we expected to trust them?"
Jant's face went red behind his palms. How could the idiot be so stupid. These new people were going to help them, yet he was doing everything he could to make them change their minds.
"It's just thOOW! Christ, Marenus, watch where you put you're feet!"
"Sorry, didn't mean to stand on your foot" said Marenus, quickly muttering as quietly as he could "For gods sake, shut up, stop talking, for the love of fucking god, just be quiet."
Marenus turned to the new ones.
"Just ignore him....he's had a hard day, he doesn't mean what he said," said Marenus ("Yeah right" muttered Jant quietly)"we're all just a little edgy around you, what with you being similar to the creatures we're currently facing."
Marenus coughed quietly.
"Uh, so....do you...uh....have names we should know you by?"

[OOC]: Just so you all know, having a character as godamn untrusting as Jant is as fun as hell to RP :D It's gonna be a while before he decides to trust them, it's just that...well....considering Danit was already killed by the creatures outside, don't expect him to be glad to see bigger (If friendlier) versions of them.

"Oh, names? How could you expect savages like us to have names? Just call us Dumbass 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. And if makes you feel better, we could take on almost any of "Those Creatures Outside" without much effort. We have hand," said the central creature, as a long, sharp, bone blade erupted from each wrist, sliding out three feet, "And slicing claws. Of course, if we're so mindless, then how would we be able to tell you aren't an enemy?"

Marenus paled slightly. His attempts to establish a bridge between them hadn't helped. Unfortunately, Jant decided to start up again, and Marenus was too afraid to stop him again.
"Look, am I supposed to be intimidated? Listen up pal, I don't need any shit out of you lot. I just lost an ally out there. There was 3 of us out there until one of you lot's little friends tore a fucking hole in him! Unless you give a DAMN good reason to trust you, I don't give a fucking shit about you. You can do what you like, but it's gona take more than Marenus acting like a fucking modern day Lucretia Dram* to make me act friendly to you, even if he does seem to have the girlyness down pretty fucking well. Now, if you're done, I believe Marenus asked you the first useful question i've heard out of him since you lot got unveiled. Marenus, care to repeat it for Senior Fuckhead here?"

Marenus was near white now, shaking like a leaf. Jant was directly insulting something that could probably kill him without trying. He knew Jant probably wasn't trying to be this bad, but it looked like he was the type to hold a grudge. These people were nothing like the ones outside, yet Jant was acting like he expected them to suddenly either start attacking them, or resort to drooling slightly and repeatedly saying 'Dur....'. Still, if he could at least ask the names of the new ones, maybe Jant would see them as more than what he currently did.

Marenus stepped slightly closer to the center one, eyes constantly locked on the blade erupting from his wrist, his legs ready to send him running at the slightest notice.

"Umm...I-I asked if...uh...y-you had....umm....names?"

His question repeated, Marenus quickly took a few steps back, his face contorted in fear. No matter what happened, it seemed that it would take a while to get used to seeing something that vaguely resembled the ones outside talking like a normal person, rather than attempting to simply kill them on sight. Now he just had to hope he really COULD try and calm them both down.

Suddenly, Marenus noticed something in the corner of his eye. Jant was smiling. No, not a smile....a grin. And he was reaching under his jacket, but when he pulled his hand out again nothing was in it. Jant suddenly noticed Marenus' eyes on him, and winked at him. Oh hell thought Marenus, what the hell is the idiot doing now?

[OOC]: Lucretia Dram was a famous diplomat from my nation's history. It was she who united the various warring factions and clans of Rinceweed into a whole to create the foundations of the nation it is today.

Oh, and as an extra note, RPing Marenus' reactions to all this is hilarious to me. This may be a....different RP, but it's certainly addictive.

Now to hope that, despite the lack of people still posting, we can just keep it going.

"Shut up, Jant" Count Yuri said, clearly unamused by Jant insulting the new creature. "We don't need you making our new friend angry before we even know his name. Taren says they are our equals, and we have no reason to think otherwise."

"So, what is your name anyway?" the Count asked. "We're gonna need to call you something other than Dumbass 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 if we're going to work together with you." Yuri seemed to be taking a liking to the creatures.

General Drake laughed heartily at the creature-warrior's sarcasm. "You guys are alright in my book," he said, thrusting out an open hand for shaking. "I'm General Drake, XMC. These are my bodyguards, Black and Frost."
Mr. Black, meanwhile, was inspecting his new plasma weapon. It seemed pretty effective, but Taren had said it was a prototype--who knew what kind of glitches it might have? On top of that, he knew next to nothing about its output. "Taren, what kind of capacity does this thing have? I don't want to run out of power in the middle of a firefight."
Jangle Jangle Ridge

Taren looked to the side at Black, "400 rounds on that pack. Nice and efficient. There are more on the racks. They clip on the pack. Also, if you shoot the a full pack with the gun, it'll explode into a wave of plasma nuggets. So be careful. It's only a prototype because it isn't released publically, don't worry."

Across the room, the least contented, glaring creature speaks up first, "Name's Garek, if it makes you feel better, asshole." A pair of creatures, almost identical ones, speak up in unison, "Kirrik!""Karrik!" They turn heads and chuckle, "Split from the same pod." The rest of the creatures give names, one by one, "Daren.""Venner.""Boris.""Corren.""Medoran, call me Medo.""Derro." The last one did a backflip and hopped over to Taren, "Gersian. I'm the special one."

"Four hundred rounds," Black said thoughtfully. "Sounds reasonable." He grabbed a few more power packs. "We're doing well for weapons now--but it might be a good idea to stock up on supplies. "Of course. And some food." Taren walks over, and flicks a switch on the wall and racks of flares and food push up from the floor. Various appliances come from the floor along with them. Taren picks up a turkey and cheese sandwich, opens the plastic seal, and starts chowing down. Pulling up a packet of raw shrimp, Garek flip them one by one into the air and catches them in his mouth.

[OOC]: Sorry for not posting for so long, my internet was buggered up again. Hey, at least the post is longer than usual for me to make up.

IC: Marenus resisted the urge to applaud at Garek's little trick. It was probably easy for him, and he'd wonder why he was getting applauded for eating. It would be like him being applauded for eating a forkfull of food.
He looked over at Jant again. He'd already wandered over to a corner of the room away from the rest of the group and was sitting down, inspecting his rifle.

Marenus smiled slightly as he heard a quietly muttered remark from Jant. He looked around, but no one else seemed to have heard. He quickly turned back to the group again and decided that even if Jant had went into the equivalent of a huff and wouldn't eat, he certainly would. He was an inspector for gods sake. This sort of physical activity didn't go down well with him.

As he walked over to the racks of food, the mixed smells started to reach him. It was impossible to identify any one smell from the mix (And from what he could see, there was none of his favorite food, stick sandwiches*), but nonetheless he was drawn to one particular peice of food. A chicken and mayonnaise sandwich. Fairly plain, but pretty much his second favorite food. He quickly picked it up and tore it out of it's wrapping, taking the top slice of to check it was really what it seemed to be and replacing it again, and then taking a large bite out of it. It was actually better than what he was used to, and he made short work of the rest of it.

Now that he was finished, he looked over the rest of the food. He didn't need any more, but Jant may as well eat. He quickly looked over it and found a roast beef sandwich. Even plainer than his one, but it at least meant there was more chance of it being to Jant's liking, so he quickly picked it up and walked over to Jant, who was finished with his rifle and was looking over his MP7. This actually puzzled Marenus, since it had proved useless against the creatures before in combat, but he was sure Jant must have had some sort of reason.

"Hey, Jant, you may as well eat. You'll need your strength later on."
Jant was silent for a few seconds, before saying "Thanks. I guess I could use some food."
Jant took the food offered, but put it down next to him instead of eating it.
"I'll have it in a minute, i'm gonna check over this thing first."
As Marenus turned to walk away, he heard Jant behind him say "Marenus, wait".
He turned back again, right eyebrow raised.
"Listen, i'm sorry about before. I didn't mean to insult you. Same with Garek over there. I know I get pissed off easily. I still don't trust him much, but...just don't think I hate him."
"Sure Jant. But just one thing," and at this Marenus lowered his voice, "I heard what you said when you first sat down over here."
Marenus smiled and walked away, as Jant sat silent and impassive, watching him walk back to the group again, before putting down his gun and starting to eat the sandwich.

As Marenus walked away, the sentence he had heard Jant say, apparently unaware anyone was listening, played over in his mind.
So, they have names....I wonder if Garek would like baseball...i'm sure I could teach him....maybe he aint that bad.....

[OOC]: So ya know, the reason for mentioning stick sandwiches is...well...check my nation. We chose to eat our national animal.

OOC: Basebaw!
IC: Garek turns an looks up at the middles vision screen and just starts laughing. "Like rats in a trap." A swarm of creatures had wandered into the corridor, looking for Taren and his party. At the moment, liquid element of the plasma had spewed across the entire hallway, and the creatures were just looking bewildered. Electromagnets rose from the floor, and the entire hallway had become a mass of plasma, as the atmosphere was sucked from the room and a magnetic bubble kept the plasma alive. "Should've payed for the extra-high-quality AC, ey Taren?" Taren glanced up at the screen, tapped a few buttons, and a little blue light with a snowflake on it lit up on the control panel, "Nah, we'll make due."

Count Yuri watched the viewscreen as the insectoid creatures burned to ash in the plasma cloud now filling the corridor. He laughed cruelly as they turned to ash.

"Much easier to survive down here when the bugs never get to you, isn't it?" He wondered how many of these traps were in this facility, but didn't bother to ask, as Taren and Garek seemed to know what they were doing.

Leaning against a wall, the Count watched the others eat sandwiches and other food. "Filthy human food," he muttered in disgust, "I guess I won't be getting anything to eat while I'm down here."

You know JJR is a morrass of species." Taren tapped another button as the left hall filled with bugs, as chainguns and missile pods pulled out of the walls, blasting the bugs from the hall, before they pulled in again and refilled on ammo. The final hall purged with napalm as the bugs poured in, toasting them. Taren pulls out some popcorn, tosses it into a microwave-like machine, and presses three. It turns on, growling for three... seconds. Taking out the popcorn, Taren opens the bag and takes out a handful of popped popcorn, "Ahhhh, technology."

The Kingdom of Cullenus, after a month of having teenage contestants enter in a drawing to visit the military base on the island of Mortic, has at last begun the drawing.

"Alright kiddies! Listen up! Remember, one lucky teenager in THIS crowd will get to ride in one of Cullenus's SAH-24A Future Attack Helicopters out to the island of Mortic to visit the Jangle Jangle ridge military base! This will be a once in a lifetime event and an outstanding learning experience!"

"So let the drawing begin!"

From the far left corner of the stage a woman dressed in a light blue bikini rolled out a large shiny wheel full of names. All the teenage boys in the auditorium had their eyes fixed on the beautiful woman.

When she reached the center where the announcer, John Jay, was standing she gave him a little wink and turned on her heel and walked off stage.

John Jay raised his arm on the large wheel clutching the handle. Then he gave it one large spin. The shiny spinning wheel under the light was enough to temporarily blind all the onlookers.

While it was spinning John Jay pulled out a small white pellet from his pocket with small blank markings on it and placed it in the recieving cup on the wheel.

When it finally came to a stop, John pressed a button and a single white pellet followed a tube leading down toward the cup. But unnoticable to anyone looking the tube actually passed right by the cup heading toward another hidden chamber.

The auditorium went silent. Everyone was excited.

"And the winner is..!" said John Jay as he reached into the cup, "... Daniel Sacks!"

A broad shouldered teenage boy of 15 ran up to the stage putting on his fake expression of excitement......

-2 days later-

The SAH-24A landed on the island of Mortic. Daniel Sacks stepped out of the helicopter and ran away from the windy roar of the blades escorted by three men in grey. Daniel was wearing brown boots and jeans with a thick leather jacket hanging half zipped revealing a white undershirt. Over his shoulders he carried a large grey backpack.

"We hope you enjoy your visit" said one of the men in grey with a wink. And then they turned and ran back to the helicopter and took off.

Daniel Sacks stood waiting to be greeted.

As Daniel stood waiting he noticed that everything got strangely silent. Then he sensed a small movement out of the corner of his eye....

Recalling his former training, Daniel was quick in his reactions and operated without a sweat. Afterall he had graduated top in his class at the Agency. He had been one of the test subjects that test the efficiency of younger militants/spies compared to the Cullenus norm.

As he turned , Daniel slipped a small .22 pistol out of his jacket firing 3 quick shots in the direction of the movement. With the pistol still in the air with surprising steadiness, Daniel walked over to the bushes and ferns where his firing had disturbed the brush.

Then all of a sudden this huge monster leaped out viciously toward Daniel! He ducked and jumped to the side with amazing agility turning firing 5 shots into the back of the creatures head.

"Shit." said Daniel as he reloaded his pistol. "It just wasnt his da....."

Hearing another disturbance behind him, he turned facing another hideous monster. It lunged at him too. And once again Daniel slipped to the side allowing it to pass. It turned just in time to see Daniel pull the trigger firing a single shot between the creatures eyes.

Then all of a sudden, as in his daydream, This huge monster moved out of the brush facing Daniel. Only this monster did not look like the monster in his dream. And if only, he thought, it would go the same way.... "Nah.."

The Monster lept viciously at Daniel. Daniel ducked and moved to the side with amazing agility!

Almost just like in his dream... except this time Daniel was left headless, spewing a large fountain of blood...

Upon closer examination of the food available, Count Yuri smiled (a rather disturbing thing to see, given his fangs :p).

"What do you know, this place really does have food for a vampire."

Walking over to the small kitchen that had appeared from the wall, Yuri picked up the bottle of chilled blood, pouring himself a glass. There were certain nutritional benefits to having a demon around. Next, the Count walked over to where Taren was watching the defenses kill bugs in the hall. Laughing again as a large insect was reduced to a nasty stain by the missile pods.

"Thanks Taren! I thought I was going to have to drink Marenus's blood or something." Realising that Marenus had heard him Count Yuri added, "Sorry about that Marenus, I was just joking."

"Lucky for us, these things outside aren't snipers," Drake said. He'd finished his pasta and, as no one seemed to be in a hurry to leave the room and make for the nearest elevator, he was looking for more food. "Speaking of fruit salad, do we got any around here?"

"Yum, that was quite good," Count Yuri said wiping his mouth, turning to watch the security screen again. "Dinner and a movie, how unexpected."

Walking over to Taren again, the Count asked "So, what's the plan, are we just going to stay in here for ever? I know the food's good, but we will eventually have to find our way back to the surface."

Marenus decided to chip in his opinion as well.
"Yuri's right, we really need to find a way out of here. We could probably last a while in here, ("Even if I can't see any toilets in here" muttered Jant) but we really should try and escape. What if these things evolve wings, or the ability to swim? They could spread to god knows where. We have to get off the island to warn everyone. And, quite simply, to turn the island into a giant crater if need be."

"WE do need to get off the island, but we don't need to crater it. Our friends here hold the key to fixing the bugs. They secrete a chemical much like in the other creatures." Taren taps a few buttons and the creatures walk into the hallways and start stabbing the dead bodies. "We're going to move on soon. IC: "Interesting plan," Count Yuri said to Taren. "I'm hardly surprised that you had a purpose in awakening Gersian and his fellow creatures."

Thinking to himself, Yuri realised that it was a good idea for the creatures to take care of many of the bugs themselves. Sure he's immortal, but the count didn't like the idea of being torn apart by giant bugs.

"Finally, some action," Drake said, getting up with a grunt.
Mr. Frost looked at him sidelong. "You're aware we could die down here, right?" he asked.
"Relax, boys," Drake said as they left the room. "With our new friends watching out for us, we could march through hell and back."
"Let's hope," Mr. Black said. He turned to Frost and Drake. "General, stick behind me. Frost, cover our asses."
They moved forward through the hall, carefully avoiding (when possible) numerous piles of decomposing bio-weapons. "How far is the elevator--" Black shut up abruptly. Twenty meters away, a creature came into view from around a corner. It was slightly larger than the swarming monsters they'd seen earlier--the size of a Great Dane or larger. It saw them, hissed loudly, and charged.
"Got it," Black said, raising his plasma weapon. He braced it hard against his shoulder, not sure what kind of recoil it would have. When he fired, a tiny, brilliant bluish-white bead of plasma shot at extreme velocity from the insulated electromagnetic barrel. The weapon had surprisingly little kick; Black realized in a distant corner of his mind that the projectile must have had a mass comparable to a couple of rifle bullets. The plasma projectile struck the attacking creature just above and to the left of dead-center, and before the creature could shriek with pain, its upper body superheated and exploded from the overpressure of its own boiling blood.
It made a satisfying popping noise.
"Taren, I like this gun of yours," Black said without relaxing. His experience with the creatures was somewhat limited, but he hadn't known them yet to operate alone. There would be at least a dozen around that corner...

Instead of a dozen creatures, one HUGE creature pulled through the doorway, taller than a person, and about as long as a tree is tall. It squirmed through the hallway, and opened it's mouth, releasing a huge wave of acid. Gersian stepped forward, pulled up his arms in front of him, as the liquid metal seen in the glaives before it turned into plasma splashed out across the hallway, forming a thick, solid barrier of metal as it instantly cooled and hardened. A little sizzling could be heard, but the barrier showed no signs of weakness. Tapping a button on a pair of gauntlets on his arms, seemily the supplier of the metal, Gersian pulled his arms apart, as magnetism flowed into the metal, and the wave of acid was met with a wave of plasma. After the smoke cleared, the creature was writhing on the ground, half-dead. The creatures all stabbed it with their claws, as the entire creature slowly became a blob of mutating flesh. Kireek pulled out a syringe full of blue liquid and administred it to the cut, as the process became to speed up to the visual level. "This'll take a few minutes, just wait." The long creature split into five, pulsing blobs. After around five, undisturbed minutes, the blobs burst open, and from them rose five, huge figures, looming over the creatures and humans alike. Long spikes jutted from the shoulders and knees, and thick spines rose along the back (think like a hunter's spines) and long bone blades jutted out from all sides of large, clawed fists. "Hmm. Big for a little brother..."

The large creatures continue on, Taren following them, as they walk into the next room, literally PACKED with the creatures, all shapes and sizes. Before anyone could move, the new, bigger creatures moved forward. One of them slammed it's fist into another worm creature, lifting it from the ground with the blades, and slamming it into the ceiling over and over. Another pulled up a guanlet-mounted barrel, and released from it huge, penetrating slugs of plasma. It was over in seconds, before any of the humans or earlier creatures really could have a chance to move, much less get over the shock. All across the room, the creatures were turning to blobs of flesh. Taren turned and looked at Gersian, "Well, that worked out well, now didn't it? We just need to pass through the next room, and we get to the service elevator. I mean, what could possibly stop... oh." The entire wall collapsed, as a massive creature sat there. It almost looked like a giant, fleshy blob, like the mutating things on the ground, with various projections all over it. A blade-tipped tentacle whipped across the room, slicing open the balls of mutating flesh. The balls sagged and rotted, and the tentacle sliced at one of the large creatures. He began to completely fall apart, layer by layer, yet, in it's last seconds, the creature ripped off the tentacle. Taren pulled his glaives out, spinning them as plasma jutted from the edges. He threw both of them, and they sheared through the creature. The flesh simply piled over the wounds. Taren chuckled, tapped a few buttons, and the gliaves exploded, piling plasma on the creature, yet they merely took a layer from the creature and it continued to slash its tentacles around. The sentients jumped into action.

OOC: So, you've decided to bring this RP to the end. Can't say I'm surprised, seeing its progress. Ah, well, I'll give it my best.

IC: "Jumpin' Jehozephat!" Drake exclaimed, blasting away at the enormous growth with his USAS-12. The shots produced melon-sized wounds, from which poured a great quantity of chunky yellow discharge slightly thicker than motor oil. As Drake stopped to reload, thick, muscular new tentacles erupted from the injured sites. They lashed at Drake, who survived infection only because Mr. Frost grabbed him by the collar and yanked him back. "Fall back!" Frost shouted, waving with his free hand toward the door they'd come in from.
Mr. Black looked back through the door and shouted, "I would advise against it!" He was right--a horde of the Great Dane-sized creatures were coming up on them from the corridor. He fired his plasma cannon down the hall indiscriminately, creating a mess somewhat comparable to a half-ton of Madagascar hissing cockroaches in an industrial meat separator.
Many of his shots hit the walls and ceiling. The inevitable result was that the tunnel collapsed. The creatures behind the group were crushed; unfortunately, the collapse made a retreat impossible.
"Jant! Where's Jant!" Black shouted. He knew that Jant's energy pistol was possibly their best shot at killing the creature. He turned and added a plasma salvo to General Drake's assault shotgun rounds. "Get those tentacles!" he shouted. As his shots hit the roots of the creature's tentacles, the tough, leathery limbs blew off in puffs of greasy, acrid smoke and steam. They twitched on the ground, possibly driven by nerve clusters similar to those seen in brainless invertebrates.
The slime from the creature's wounds was spreading towards the survivors, who were pressing hard against the back wall. "That shit better not be contagious," Drake said as he loaded another mag into his gun. He knew that it probably was. He suddenly remembered the gravity grenade he'd seen earlier, before the tour had gone to hell, and wondered if one of those would kill the monster.
Frost fired at the thickest parts of the creature's tentacles, hoping to at least paralyze some of them. He knew that his gun's tiny caliber wouldn't do any significant damage to the creature's body, but maybe he could repel its attacks enough to help the others kill it. He spotted a black, globular protrusion mostly obscured by a Cthulthoid mass of tentacles. It looked like an eye to him, and it didn't seem that anyone had picked it out as a target yet. He took a risk, stepping a few feet closer--this was a target he might actually have an effect on. He blew the growth into oblivion--and was rewarded by a bladed tentacle lancing completely through his gut.
He was vaguely aware of being lifted into the air and drawn near the creature, and of sudden cold inside him. His extremities began to go numb and necrotic as his vision faded--but he had a sudden flash of gallows inspiration.
"Taren!" he shouted. "Throw me a rocket!"
Jangle Jangle Ridge
11-08-2004, 18:50
Taren pulled his arm back and threw the rocket to Frost. He pulled the massive gauntlet-mounted barrel from the decomposed corpse of the larger creature, and pulled it onto his arm, raising it with the strength of both arms, and began firing at the creature over and over, huge gobs of plasma ripping into the monster. The other large creatures pulled forward, and joined him in salvos of various heavy weaponry. Bullets, lances of energy, heavy lasers, they all ripped through the air, as the last creature closed into Hand to hand distance, and pulled out what looked like twelve blue knives. He hopped away from the tentacles, and slammed the blades into creature. A hiss was heard, and the blue from the knives spread into the veins of the creature. Where there was blue liquid in the vein, the creature wasn't moving....

OOC: Eh, it'd gone on long enough, you and Rinceweed are the only other people posting that often, and I don't know about Rinceweed.

The creature absorbed Frost into its body as Taren picked up the slain warrior-creature's weapon. As he slipped beneath the rippling folds of clammy, spongy flesh, he glimpsed the survivors commence their final salvo. He pressed his thumb down on the rocket's primer.
Always knew it'd end something like this...
The blast was visible only as a momentary ripple across the creature's skin, but it quite shredded a large portion of the monster's insides. Finally, the last surviving complete creature was able to inject the monster with a blue substance. After a moment, it lay dead.

"Jesus on a jackhammer," Drake said, "we should all hope to die like that. I'm recommending him for the Badge of Honor."
"He'd appreciate it, sir," Black said. He pointed at the slime now coating half the floor. "Is that stuff safe? Can we walk through it?"
"One second," the last creature said. "Stand back." He touched a control on his wrist gauntlet, which emitted a large jet of intense blue flame. He played it across the puddle of ichor, thoroughly sterilizing it.
The monster's flesh had begun to form into pods, from which more complete creatures would eventually emerge. In the process, the path to the next room, heretofore blocked by the enormous bulk of the monster, was reopened.
The next room held three of the original, dog-sized monsters. They turned toward the survivors and shrieked.
"Fuck you," Black replied tiredly. He blasted each in turn with a shot of plasma. Grabbing General Drake by the arm, he pulled him roughly toward the elevator. "Let's get the hell out of this deathtrap."

Taren chuckled and walked out into the elevator, "Well, you guys clean the island, and I'll make you some women. Sound good?" "Damn right it sounds good!"

The elevator moved to the top floor, and everyone piled off, out of the building, and to the coast, blasting various small monsters along the way. Once at the coast, Taren stamped on a certain patch of sand, and it rose from the rest of the beach. The top of the little podium flipped open and revealed a control panel. After a few buttons were tapped, the panel flashed a few letters. Taren grunted as if they meant something and looked at the others, "My men are sending some Terracostes. We'll be out of here soon..."

IC: "Hey, wait for me!" Count Yuri shouted at Taren and the others as the elevator doors closed. Arriving too late, the elevator had already left. "This is the second damn time this happened today!" he said to himself as he pressed the elevator call button.

He was too busy swearing at the elevator for being too slow that he didn't hear one of the dog sized bugs free itself from the rubble. It ran towards him, grabbing hold of his arm. The Count tried to shake it off, reaching for his auto pistol. Before he could, it bit off his left hand. "Damn!" he swore, drawing his other pistol and wasting the bug with 5 shots to the head.

The elevator arrived a few minutes later, and Yuri stepped in, swearing the whole trip back to the surface. As the elevator reached the lobby, he stepped out furious. "You forgot me again you stupid bastards!" he yelled at the others waving the remains of his arm at them. "Look what happened! Some damn bug tore my hand off!"

After about half an hour, Count Yuri calmed down, realising that as he was immortal, the loss of a hand could be easily fixed.

[OOC]: I should point out, I started writing this post at 4 A.M (British time) this morning, and was far too tired to finish it off. It only had a little bit left, but I could barely keep my eyes open. Ah well, here it is.

IC:Marenus smiled. It was all over. They could get back home again. Of course, his government would classify the whole thing, making sure news of this never got out to anyone in their country. What other countries would do, of course, was up to them....

Marenus looked around, wanting to thank Jant for his help, but couldn't see him in the group, and so started to worry.

Down below, at the bottom of the elevator, Jant was hiding. The vampire had managed to lose an arm to one of the creatures whilst he hid behind some of the wreckage created by the firefight. As soon as the elevator doors closed behind Yuri, Jant sprang out, bringing his rifle butt up. As soon as he was standing, he ran towards the recently dead creature, blood still flowing from the carcass. He stood over it, ready to smash it with his rifle if it showed any signs of life, but thankfully it was beyond life. Jant's hand went into his Jacket, just like it had when Marenus had spotted him in the control room doing it, but when it came out it was holding a small disk shaped object, about the size of his fist and silver coloured.. He quickly set it down next to the corpse, and crouched next to it. Carefully, he took a tiny sliver of the creatures flesh, and placed it atop the disk, which immediately lit up, before a small display on it flashed, in green, the message 'Sample Data Sent'.

Jant grinned. This was all he needed. He quickly stood up, leaving the disk behind, with it's small display now a block of red. Jant quickly hurried to the elevator, smashing away at the call button. He wanted away from the disk as soon as possible. After around 5 minutes, the supersonic jet it was signalling would arrive on the island to quickly get Marenus and himself off the island. Around half an hour after that, the orbiting fleet would get word to start a bombardment. It would take another 10 minutes or so after that for all the final confirmation checks to be completed, but after that, the island would be nothing but a crater, if there was even enough left to call it that.

It was lucky they had been able to get an informant working here. It was unfortunate that this backup plan had to be initiated. The original plan was to get in with Danit and Marenus, try and acquire a sample of the new creatures the informant had told them about, and then simply leave. No one would know a thing. Unfortunately, everything had went wrong. First, the tour group had been headed by Taren himself, so he couldn't sneak away (Plus he would have preferred if the informant had told them about Taren being a demon, but at least he provided some use.). Then, the creatures had gotten loose without the informant guiding them. He was originally supposed to release them, then get them to kill pretty much everything on the island except himself and the group of 3. Apparently he hadn't known they couldn't take instructions. Still, at least he had acquired the sample. Plus the island wouldn't exist anymore. Neither would the creatures. That was one bad thing. Jant would have preferred if the sentient ones had been able to make their way out of this alive. But, unfortunately, they simply couldn't risk any creatures the sentients didn't kill evolving flight or the ability to swim, and infecting the mainland. Or at least that was the official reason. His government probably just wanted to make sure no one else had the technology. Jant hesitated at the elevator doors as they opened.

After a few moments, Jant sighed and walked back to the device. He just had to hope he could work out a cover story if his government found out about this. He tapped the small screen on the disk once, at which points black letters appeared in the block of red.
Jant quickly whispered "423, 564". The numbers appeared on the screen, then disappeared. The device would now tell the orbiting fleet to fire it's bombardment around 10 kilometers off the eastern coast of the island. Hopefully if anyone found it, they wouldn't tamper with it. If they did, the thing would reset it's coordinates to it's current position, in case they had attempted to set it to target somewhere else. The damn thing ran by fingerprints too. Anyone else touching it to set it somewhere else would have their fingerprints scanned, and if it didn't match Jant's, the place would be a crater about 40 minutes later.

He stood up and smiled, before quickly running to the elevator. Once it got to the top, and Jant walked out, Marenus ran up to him, asking him where he had been.
"One of those little bastards we must have missed went after me. Nearly got me. Ah well, at least I got it before it could get me, unlike the unfortunate Count."
Marenus nodded.
"Well, at least you're ok. Come on, we have to get to the landing strip. Apparently a plane just arrived for us. I don't know how they knew to come for us, but at least we can get off."
"Great. Hey, think any of the others will want to use it to get offa here?"
"Dunno. Hey, guys, anyone need access to the plane? We're willing to use it to get you to wherever you're going quickly. We're just getting off here now."

Oh, and when I said he took a small sample carefully, it meant he was taking a small piece of skin.
And last of all, the stupidest mistake i've ever made. I didn't post what anyone was wearing at the beginning of this RP (You'll notice that for one thing, Jant was wearing a Jacket, yet I never mentioned it at the beginning.)
Jant's wearing a Black Jacket, with various inside pockets, and two outside ones. He's also wearing light green trousers. On his feet he wears light brown boots.
And lastly, the important piece of clothing. He wears gloves. Not big bulky ones, just thin but waterproof ones. Doesn't let liquids in or out.
As I said, very sorry for not clarifying anything.

Rinceweed
12-08-2004, 21:05
[OOC]: But...I didn't say it took a few seconds.
Oh, oh. Also, just so ye know, it's only vaguely disk shaped. I couldn't quite figure out how to describe the exact shape and size. I'll try now if it helps.
Ok, imagine a Compact Disk or DVD. Turn it solid silver in colour, then slightly dull it (No shine to it), and roughen the surface slightly. Then, bulge the disk out at the top (The bottom remains flat), so it's sorta like a dome. Like...I dunno, ever heard of the millenium dome? That shape, but without any openings or stuff sticking out.
Then, last of all, put a small hole in the top of the disk, about the size of a penny. This is where whatever you want to sample goes in.
A quick explination of the device is here as well:
A sample of whatever you wish to analyze is placed in the small hole. At that point, the disk starts work. The whole process takes roughly 30 seconds to a minute. (There have been a few mishaps where it has taken as long as 2 hours, but those bugs have been ironed out mostly. It took over 30 trillion pounds and 30 years to even get it to a point where 2 hours was quick. It took another 10 years, and another 50 trillion to get it to it's current point. When it was found how important it was during it's original creation, huge amounts of resources and cash were poured into the project. The amount of uses for military uses were incredible. Spies could steal secrets of our enemies (Ones such as revolutionary materials, or new chemicals for such things as poison gas) quickly and easily, and even if the spy was caught, it would simply not matter, as the information had already been transmitted. Of course, crime scene investigators could use it too. They could get to a crime scene, and if DNA evidence was found, it could be analyzed and sent back to a central computer for final analysis, for you see, the device itself doesn't actually work out what it's scanning. It takes the equivalent of a molecular snapshot of the sample (Sorry, there isn't any other way of saying it I know of), and transmits what it has snapped (Again, not what it has literally done. Just something that ties in with the previous metaphor) to the central computer of the ship above the island (Although it can't be set to transmit it anywhere pretty much), which then transmits it to my main Orbital, where the data is finally analyzed.

Oi, my fingers hurt now. I know how it works off by heart (Even if I have yet to think up a better way of saying how it scans the material. Snapshot is all I can ever think of), but it always takes longer than I think it will to type it out. (I've used this on an RP on the old forums once I believe. Used it to get information about a new super high density metal. God I wish I could remember who I used it against.)

So i'll summarise (God, I should have just done this rather than typed it all out).
The device is only designed to take the 'Snapshot', it doesn't figure out what's it taking a picture of, or hell, even it it's taking a picture of something that isn't there (Damn thing can analyze itself if nothing else is there. We have to filter out what we know is it before we can start work on whatever SHOULD be there.).

....uh, if you have any more questions, I beg you, don't make them technical. My finger joints are gonna bloody break at this rate.

Oh, and yet another thing I should add. The thing, apart from the 'Snapshot' parts of it (God, does anyone who thinks they know what i'm saying have a better way of saying it?), is mostly a transmitter, with various peices of shielding to try and protect it from...well, pretty much everything we could think of that wasn't physical. (E.g. Radiation, Electromagnets, etc). We considered that we may use it on radioactive materials, and so tried to add the best shielding we could (Bloody stuff took around 3 million pounds of money into research before we finally decided which materials were best to use).

OOC: Exactly how long did it take? I would have to say that, to analyze the DNA of a skin cell of creature, it would take, in this time, about 5 hours. With a tiny device such as that, at least 10. I would certainly call that "lagging behind"

OOC: There is no way to get a genealogical picture without an analysis. That is the majority OF said analysis. The last say, 30 seconds of a what is now a 24 hour analysis is taken up with translating the picture, the rest is in getting the picture.

OOC 1: The United States has an annual budget of less than two trillion. I don't think the biggest nation in NS can afford to spend that much on one device.

OOC 2: That said, I think I understand what the device is doing. Instead of running a huge battery of tests (gas chromatography, density measurements, comparative analysis, reagent tests, et cetera), it determines and records the exact position, element, valence electron energy levels, and chemical bonds of every atom in the sample. This information would then be instantly transmitted to government labs, who would reconstruct a molecular computer model of the sample so that they could study it. To reuse the snapshot analogy, it would be like scanning a photograph. The scanner just encodes the data of the photo in a meaningless (to us) string of 0s and 1s. The guy on the other end can run the data through an image program, study it, and tell us who's in the photo and what they're wearing.

OOC 3: That said, the process would still take close to a year no matter how many trillions of pounds you spend on the device. Furthermore, simply transmitting the data back to the labs would take almost as long.

IC: Taren boredly sprawls on a leather couch. A lobby had been made from the ship bay, filled with food and fun stuff. A waiter came by and held down a tray with a tall glass full of black, thick liquid. If one looked close, they'd see anguished, screaming faces in it. Taren took the glass and downed it in around two seconds.

General Drake's helicopter landed on the Terracoste not much later. The General was chagrinned to see that a mobile biohazard team had come along. "You're not getting any samples," Drake said flatly.
"Whatever," the squad captain said brusquely. "Let's go." Drake and Black piled into the Blackhawk and both collapsed in their seats. For them, it was over.

Unbeknownst to them, another helicopter had landed on the edge of the island. It was a custom-outfitted CH-53 Sea Stallion designed for transporting biohazardous materials and organisms. Under normal circumstances, JJR's defenses probably would have destroyed it instantly. As of now, those defenses were still fighting off waves of engineered creatures.
The jet-black vehicle's doors opened and a second biohazard team emerged, packing substantial heat: Ximea's specially-developed Samurai weapon systems. Unlike the team which had met Drake, these six men wore heavy combat-demolitions armor over their environment suits. "Let's do this quick, in and out," their commander said. His name was Carver.

OOC: The Samurai is a carbine weapon chambered in 357 Magnum, with an integral over-under 25mm grenade launcher. Both the carbine and the grenade launcher can accept either standard magazines or higher-capacity drums, and it has an extending stock. The weapon can also be fitted with either a high-powered infrared or night-vision scope, or a self-contained flamethrower. This flamethrower has a built-in fuel reservoir, but it can also accept feed from a tank worn on the user's back. All in all, it's a horribly inefficient weapon for normal military use, but it's great for heavy-handed, authoritarian police or combat units specializing in hunting monsters like the ones on Mortic.

They're gathering forces, and drawing out plans. Anyway, why does everyone want this? It's mine. And so you know, I invited EVERYONE on board. With the creatures downstairs, the defenses would be online again, SYK.

OOC: They started to withdraw when the Hivemind we killed died. It was basically a huge brain, commanded the entire the group. So they ran for shelter.
IC: As the units near the building automated "Tankbuster" railguns came online, as a heavy 6-barrel AA gun turned downwards, following the group. Eventually, the railguns got a good shot at the group, near the entrance, and six heavy, 100 mm shells followed six load reports. The railguns had collaborated, aiming at different areas of the group, at the ground, in the actual group, etc.

The biohazard team was completely annihilated by the sudden security response. They didn't even have time to scream.
When the technicians still on board the CH-53 saw the team's vital signs instantly flatten as one, the pilots decided to pull out. The aircraft lifted off and turned back for the Verloc, escaping the destruction which rained down on Carver's team.
Fortunately for everyone, no evidence was left which pointed to a responsible nation. The crew's gear and weapons were destroyed beyond any hope of recognition. No Ximean outside the Bio-Sciences Division ever learned of the incident.

Relaxing on a comfortable recliner, Count Yuri was glad to be off of that bug infested island. Looking down at the mauled remains of his arm, he had a moment of annoyance. This quickly passed when he thought that they were all lucky to have escaped alive. Besides, he could get a good mechanical replacement once he got back to Akaton. As he relaxed he enjoyed some of the refreshments provided by the waiters.

After a few minutes, Yuri decided that a little conversation might help the trip pass more quickly.
"So Taren," the Count asked, "Do you think that island will ever be safe enough for human use? I know those sentiant creatures will try to reclaim the facility, but can the infestation be completely exterminated."

"Actually, the creatures, without the hive-mind, will likely die. We have hormonic sensors set up, in case of an escape, and from what we could tell, they had developed a need for the hive mind they'd created, because it was so strong. Luckily for us, it was still in it's infancy. The sentients are planning to make a Hivemind, but in secret, and gaurd it from everyone excluding me and my sisters. It would allow for perfect assasinations. The only evidence of an attack was a ragged hole in the ground where a sub-terrainian spike had ripped from the ground. Sounds nice, no?"
