It doesn't work.

Galdanian anti-missile systems...
http://www.tribulation.com/images/russ-300.jpg
...launched countermeasures to ensure that the Tomahawks were brought down. 16 of the tomahawks got through, hitting AA and SAM sites, along with a barracks and a movie theatre.

In response, Jackals and Blue Valkyries secured the skies, while
twenty-four cruise missiles were returned to Tarasaki and the Eredronian navy.

33 boats, including 12 subs, cruised over to Tarasaki, while crusie missiles covered their advance.
Galdanian artillery and tanks were situated in Takahido, and cruise missiles aimed at them ended up hitting civilian targets as well.

120 Tanks crawled through the western jungle, passing the monastary, hoping to surprise the Eredronians...

Fifteen Virginia-class Attack Submarines silently moved to sink the incoming Galdanian ships, accompanied by 8 Los Angeles-class Submarines, as the AA and SAM defenses of the city and surface ships fought to bring down as many of the cruise missiles as possible

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ship/nssn-backsub.jpg

Two Virginia submarines stopped, the rest moving forward to meet the incoming Galdanian fleet, and began laying advanced mobile mines between Task Force Phoenix and the Galdanians.

Despite the AA and SAM defenses, jamming and countermeasures, eight cruise missiles got through, raining destruction upon Tarasaki and the fortified bunkers that were being constructed; one ripped through the tower of a Oliver Perry frigate, smashing through.

From the two Nimitz Aircraft Carriers, twenty-five F-22 Raptors were launched.

http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/nimitz/images/nimitz8.jpg

The Raptors seemed to skim the ocean surface as they moved to meet the Galdanian fleet.

------
((I'm assuming it will be some time before your fleet gets to Tarasaki. thus Greyes isn't entirely involved with that yet))

"Clearly, any loyalist troops have been defeated," Vice-Admiral Greyes said as the three men considered the large photo on the table in front of them. "What kind of defense could these cities mount?" Greyes asked the Naorian standing next to him, motioning to the small cities that stood between Yoshihama and Tarasaki.

The short man, a Naori loyalist and member of the resistance, shook his head slightly. "Nothing big," he said; his english was good, and improving every day.

Greyes was silent for a moment, staring at the large swath of jungle that stretched across northern Naori, from Yoshihama to within twenty miles of Tarasaki. "What's in that jungle? Is it inhabited?"

"No, sir," the Naori said, almost smiling. "That jungle is bad. No good for people."

"Then no one will mind when I burn it to the ground," the Vice-Admiral said, turning to the other man in the room. "Captain, get a flight of Raptors into the air. I want this entire area cleared," he said, indicating on the photo a swath of land northwest of Tarasaki.

In less than forty-five minutes, another twelve F-22 Raptors had launched from the decks of the aircraft carriers, heading northwest over the dense jungle. They traveled for only a short period of time, and were roughly fifty miles from Tarasaki when they dropped their payload of napalm on the jungle below.

The fleet stopped many miles from Tarasaki harbor. Misile boats and fired at Tarasaki and the fleet, submarines launched modified long-range K-NAKs at postiions along the coast, while forty-two Blue Valkyrie fighter/bombers were launched from the carrier Dasidanya at Yakashima.

A small package arrived at the Eredronian headquarters in Tarasaki...
Inside are three items: A picture of a Jackal II, A Picture of a man with large specticles, and a letter.

The letter reads: My name is Josef Alexi Zyanioprovchtz. I want to defect. I have information about transportation of the Jackal II to the South Kevon Naval Base. Take my information, but promise to me that you will help me get over to the North.

On the back of the letter are detailed co-ordinates or where the transports will be while shipping to South Kevon.

Greyes studied the map, comparing the area with the coordinates on the paper as his subordinates dealt with the details of bringing the man over unharmed.

He considered the dangers of the information; the possibility of it being a trap. "What do we know about this...'South Kevon'?" he asked, turning his head to the junior intelligence officer.

"Intel is still coming in sir."((hint))

"I need information, now," he growled as he walked back to the bridge.

---------------

The Virginia-class Submarines had fired off a first round of torpedoes at the Galdanian ships before circling around the fleet to come in from behind and sending out a second round of torpedoes.

---------------

As the ground and naval AA/SAM units fired at the incoming missiles and fighters, the naval vessels, numbering well over fifty, responded in kind, sending a wave of Tomahawk missiles at the Galdanian fleet as the F-22 Raptors already inflight attacked the Valkyrie fighter/bombers, while more took off or returned from their missions.

The C-5 and G-12 Troop Transports inbound to Tarasaki had altered course, moving north while more fighters and several fueler tanks were scrambled.

Galdanian ships remained undamaged, except for the Hjavok, a submarine, which had it's front end blown apart. There were no survivors, save for the captains dog, which was found floating in the water at the surface. The dog was fine, but the ship was sunk.

The tomahawks were mostly intercepted, but one ripped a hole in the cruiser Geittyz, killing twenty-six men. Another hit the missile boat Stoyz, and sent it's crew to a watery death.

The ships moved to return to Yakashima, but found subs blocking their way. They released depth charges and fired torpedoes, while the enemy claimed another gunboat.
---
Jackals were released to battle the Raptors and F-22's, while to the north of Naori, eighteen cruise missiles would be caught on Eredronian radar, launched from a lone ship, flying the Galdanian flag.

Galdanian armour columns, with considerable AA and AM support, advanced across into Eredronian-held territory. Aircraft advanced ahead of them, fighters sweeping the air clean, as bombers delivered punishing blows to the enemy below. News of the Galdanian offense reached Greyes almost immediately, who promptly mobilized the ground forces.

The eight Paladin self-propelled howitzers began shelling the Galdanian force advancing forward as the twenty-four M-1A2 Abrams Tanks were manned. The eight ground AA/SAM units moved to provide more cover against the enemy aircraft, supported by a dozen F-22 Raptors, the only F-22s not needing to be refueled and rearmed. Apache helicopters were being readied for deployment, but would not be ready for another ten minutes.

Naorian pilots jumped into old, rusty biplanes that could barely fly. It didn't matter. These pilots never intended to land.

Six groups of five planes each lew over Galdanian territory on a suicide mission these were kamikaze pilots.

Eredronian planes flew oer the villiages in central Naori. The jungle surrounded them, but they had cleared patches to work their rice farms and grow corn and wheat. The villagers saw the planes high up and waves to them. They saw something spilling out of the planes...

******************************
Naorian soldiers were working in unison with Eredronian forces to beef up Tarasaki for Galdanian ground attack. 89,000 Naorians were armed in Tarasaki, and they had about 40 Shermans in the city to garrisson the city.

An NRA member, Suki Imajashi, walked along the road leading to the Eredronian military base in Tarasaki. She sat down along the street to eat her lunch. She was dressed in traditional Naorian dress, nothing out of the ordinary. She noticed some Eredronian vehicle leaving the compund. Suki wore her hat over her head, shading her face. She quickly hurled the grenade that she had been hiding in her lunch box at the vehicle, before turning to run. The last thing she felt was blood running down her chest and back, and the sound of bullet casings falling to the ground.

The grenade landed under the jeep before exploding, lifting the vehicle several feet into the air, before it crashed down again, crushing the driver. Shots sounded as two marines shot down the woman fleeing the scene as more soldiers arrived.

"How much longer?" Colonel Jacobs asked, shouting over the Paladin artillery in the background and the F-22 Raptors overhead, finishing up their aerial dogfight.

"Three minutes before she's overhead, and another two before we receive the transmit, colonel," Private Jones replied, his eyes squinting against the intermittant flashes.

Jacobs studied the maps on the wall, considering the terrain. The jungles north and west of the city sloped upward, with Tarasaki sitting on the highest point in the area, one of the few places that sat above the floods that would come in during the summers. From the Eredronian base near the port, Tarasaki extended west several miles; immediately surrounding the city were cleared fields, separating the city from the jungle; a jungle where Eredronian soldiers were busy laying booby traps and anti-tank mines in the northwestern approach, directly in front of the Galdanian's columns advancing from Yokishima.

"Ready?" Jacobs asked, turning back to the private.

"Almost, sir..." Jones replied, not looking up. "Here we are, sir." On the wall came several projected images: the latest photos taken by reconnaissance satellites.

Clearly visible were the Galdanian tanks and infantry advancing from the north as well as the south.

Open Centralis Message to Galdania:

Your war for control of Naori in pursuit of 'international revolution' has now quite evidently exceeded all sense. We have seen, time and time again, Naori and Eredron request a halt to the fighting that peace might be made; and we have seen you reject every such effort. This is bad enough, but in deliberately firing incendiary missiles at civilian targets in Eredron, you have gone beyond being merely aggressive to being flagrantly murderous. We give you a choice: you can call a cease-fire and begin negotiations for peace and democracy - which, if the Naorians are as happy as you claim, should give you what you want - or we can intervene and compel you to accept peace. It's up to you, but pelase believe me when I say I'd prefer the first option.

Signed,
Andreas Von Weiser,
Minister for International Affairs,
Federal Republic of Centralis

Leopold von Mordenhein,
President,
Federal Republic of Centralis

When Weiser walked back into the War Room after delivering his message, he noted that ther emilitary officers everywhere, manning terminals or poring over charts.

"Sent the message, Weiser?" the President asked, looking up from his coffee mug as the Minister approached.

"Yes," Weiser replied, "hopefully this time they'll actually listen..."

"I wouldn't count on it. I'm really beginning to doubt the Galdanian leadership's sanity."

"So am I, Mr. President, so am I. By the way, you might find this interesting..."

Weiser handed the Mordenhein the top page of the latest UN Report on Galdania.

"The Glorious Communist Republic of Galdania... yadda yadda ya... CORRUPT DICTATORSHIP!?"

He choked, and narrowly avoided spraying coffee everywhere.

"Yes, apparently they've been reclassified. We ought to make a note of this, in case we need to use that information."

"I agree, Weiser. Put it in Galdania dossier. Now, back to military business. Would we get in trouble for deploying our troops into Naori without asking permission?"

"I hardly think so. After all, Eredron has alreayd asked for help, and there doesn't really appear to be much of a Naorian government left at all. Some people might object, but they're of no consequence."

"That's good, then. Hawkwood!" Mordenhein turned and shouted at his Defence Minister, who was busy discussing logistics with some of his subordinates. "Get those paratroopers moving now!"

Hawkwood gave him a thumbs up and began speaking into his mobile phone, while the President turned back to Weiser.

"So, how many troops are we sending right now?" Weiser asked curiously.

"Around a hundred thousand ground troops over the next day or so, plus more by sea," Mordenhein responded, "And a lot of aircraft, too. Hawkwood wants to execute Tunguska on the Galdanians if they keep going, but I said it wasn't warranted. We're moving the units into position, though."

Weiser winced. "Tunguska!? Has the man taken leave of his senses? Dropping big balls of iron out of orbit on enemy troops shouldn'texactly be a first resort."

"I know, I know... but we may have to do it. And if we do, better that than a nuke."

Apache helicopters were skirting the edges of the advancing Galdanians, strafing the marching troops and targeting the armored vehicles with their Hellfire missiles.

An artillery shell struck the converted school gymnasium, killing over a hundred medical personnel and civilians; across Tarasaki, buildings were collapsing as artillery shells fell upon them; an F-22 Raptor was clipped by a Jackal's missile, and spiraled out of control. After the first traps were uncovered, killing some troops and damaging tanks, special teams were sent in to clear out any mines, traps, etc. Their enemy knew this terrain fairly well, but the Galdanians were familiar with guerrilla strategy. They used it all the time, all around the world.

Galdanian troops were given machetes and flamethrowers to cut through the dense foliage, and to kill any enemy they might encounter in close counters while attacking Tarasaki.

Galdanian troops took casualties from the Eredronians, but the AA capabilities of many tanks in the Galdanian armoured columns were a match for the Apaches. Captain Trevor Vickrey stifled a yawn as his A-17 "Kestral" naval scout aircraft reached the next waypoint on it's recon run. Letting the autopilot handle the flying, Vickrey studied the instruments with a total lack of interest; he'd been on patrol for over two hours, and he hadn't even seen a fishing boat. He yawned again, and then nearly jumped out of his skin as his radar bleeped loudly and repeatedly. It had spotted something ahead... something big. Examining the screen and hitting a few keys, he could see that it was a small flotilla of ships matching the profile of Galdanian naval vessels. Taking over manual control and turning towards them, he opened a commlink channel to the main carrier group.

"Command, this is Kestral Three. I've picked up a small group of Galdanian naval vessels on radar a few hundred kilometres ahead of the main group; I'm heading in for a closer look, over."

"Copy that, Kestral Three. What kind of vessels? Over."

"Small ones; they look like they're escorting something. Maybe a troop convoy, maybe ASW ships, maybe minelayers. Over."

"Thanks, Kestral Three. Contact us when you get closer. Over."

"Will do. Over and out."

A few minutes later, the plane came into visual range, and Trevor circled twice as he examined the ships.

'They look like minelayers...' he thought.

"Command, this is Kestral Three. They look like minelayers from here. Over."

"Thanks for the info, Kestral Three. We'll increase minesweeper patrols immediately. Now, return to your previous course. Over."

IC: The Galdanians had been wary of a sneak attack, but they did not expect it from Naorian soldiers. Tanks used their machine guns to mow down the poorly equipped naorian soldiers, and re-advanced, runing over groups of soldiers unable to get out of the way in time.

Galdanian flame-tanks moved quickly onto the enemy, scorcvhing all in their path. The charred bodies of enemy soldiers littered the battlefield.
Infantry set up heavy weapon enplacements, ripping the limbs off Naori's soldiers with high-powered bullets.

The RPG knocked a soldier into the side of a building before it exploded, killing the nearest three men and piercing several others with shrapnel. A man was seen withdrawing from an open window, a portable rocket launcher on his shoulder. The soldiers opened fire on the window as another threw a grenade in.

The men took cover behind the Black Hawk as a small group ran across the street and forced open the ground level door. The fifteen soldiers swept through the first floor then advanced upward; on the second floor they found hidden rifles and ammunition in a small room, as well as three men who were arrested. On the third floor they entered into a room, the walls charred from the grenade explosion, and saw what was left of the ma who had fired the RPG.

--------

All across the city, Eredronian soldiers were securing buildings from the NRA, with the help of the local Naori. Once the buildings had been secured, another team arrived to perform a thorough search for hidden caches, occasionally knocking out walls and tearing up floor boards to reveal hidden NRA stashes.

Meanwhile, the majority of the soldiers - roughly 9,000 men - were fortifying themselves against a Galdanian offensive, waiting for reinforcements.

From Tarasaki, F-22 Raptors were being launched to slow the Galdanian advancement; using air-to-ground missiles, F-22s rained destruction down onto the Galdanian artillery and tanks while other Raptors engaged the Galdanian planes. Apache helicopters stationed near Makatashi joined the F-22s, directing their attacks on the Galdanian tanks. Several were shot out of the air by the limited AA defenses, but most remained relatively undamaged, strafing any visible personnel with their machine guns as they fired off their missiles at the armored vehicles.

3 MLRS Rocket Artillery Systems were deploying west of Tarasaki, moving out far enough so that the rear Galdanian artillery was within the 32 kilometer range of their missiles.

In less than a minute, each MLRS had fired twelve rockets into the air, each rocket covering a .23 sq. km area.

Gunfights were breaking out all across Makatashi as thousands of Eredronian soldiers opened fire on Galdanian troops in the streets; machine guns raked the enemy soldiers, while return fire left dozens of Eredronians dead. The soldiers were fighting viciously, their first time to meet Galdanian troops in open combat. Black Hawks occasionally provided support fire as they withdrew, heading north away from the oncoming Galdanians to circle around and return to Tarasaki.

During all this, the Eredronians were being gradually pushed north as the Galdanian tanks continued advancing into the city. The few M-72 anti-tank rockets the soldiers had were quickly expended; the twelve M21 anti-tank mines were likewise scattered in the most likely paths of the Galdanian tanks.

Once the mines were in place and the last of the AT rockets used, the last of the soldiers holding the rearguard fell back to regroup farther west.

-----

The Jackal IIs were on par with the F-22 Raptors, but outnumbered despite the seven Raptors that had been initially lost. Over a hundred F-22s were in the area or inbound. The sleek aircraft were now concentrating on eliminating the Jackal IIs, as the Apache helicopters shifted their weapons to the incoming Galdanian helicopters, firing off their air-to-air missiles in rapid succession while maneuvering erratically to evade a counter-response.

------

Meanwhile, 20 M-1A2 Abrams Battle Tanks and were moving out from Tarasaki, skirting the jungle that enveloped the northern coast of Naori. More F-22 Raptors flew escort overhead, while howitzers and artillery pounded the rear of the Galdanian force. From the replenished Task Force Phoenix still positioned outside Tarasaki, dozens of Tomahawk cruise missiles leapt in the sky, skimming the terrain of Naori heading northwesterly to slam into the Galdanian armored columns advancing into Makatashi. To the sailors ashore, it seemed as if the very bellies of the naval vessels were being emptied as the sky filled with the cruise missiles.

OOC: 2010-2015 tech? I dunno...That seems awfully advanced...Not to mention that you've just poured hundreds of thousands of men into this war so quickly.

How so? Most of it's just more advanced versions of present-day technology, without much actually new stuff.

EDIT: And regarding my sending vast numbers of troops in, bear in mind that this was done over time, and the additional troops being sent aren't going to arrive immediately.

EDIT2: And also note that while I may be moving a lot of troops in, they're not going to be effective immediately - they still need to set up base camps, supply lines, etc.

OOC: 'Reaction disruptors'? What the hell are they supposed to be?

Oh, and regarding F-22s: unless these are specially souped-up ones, the Jackals would easily outrun them - the maximum speed of an F-22 is apparently Mach 1.8 (or 1.5; the source of this info is a bit unclear). See http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/aircraft/f-22-specs.htm

And, finally, a question: apart from being very fast, what are the Jackal's other attributes?

IC: "Damn them! Damn them! Damn them!" Mordenhein whispered, staring at a computerised map of Naori that covered half the wall, with the Centralis/Eredron positions marked in blue and the Galdanian ones in red. Presently, most of the map was red.

"Why did those bastards have to restart the war so soon? Why couldn't they have waited just a few more days? We won't be able to properly commit to the fighting until we can get our infrastructure sorted, and by then the Galdanians may overrun most of the rest of Naori..."

As he sat drumming his fingers on the table and trying to think of what could be done, Defence Minister Alvarex came over holding a phone in one hand.

"Mr. President, the commander of task Force Dragon is requesting permission to launch A-25 Razorwings to intervene over Makatashi. He says he could launch 100 or so without seriosuly depleting his air defence, and they could make all the difference there; they can arrive within half an hour or so. He's also asking permission to fire cruise missiles at Galdanian positions near Makatashi, like supply depots."

"Tell him he has full permission to do that, and anything else he considers necessary, until I say otherwise. Galdania has committed acts of war against us all, and they have no right to complain about anything that happens to them."

"Good. I'll tell him that." Alvarex turned away slightly and spoke into the phone again, then termianted the call and turned away. As he did so, Mordenhein spoke again.

"Alvarex, how close to completion are our airfields near Tarasaki?"

The Defence Minister turned back and pondered for a moment before replying.

"Last I heard was about a day to full capacity; we're now at close to full capacity on storage, but much less on fuelling and repair. We could operate a few hundred aircraft properly, but no more, yet, anyway."

"Right... get as many aircraft over there as possible, as fast as possible. We need more air cover. What's the status of the other facilities?"

"Our barracks are mainly complete, along with the transport sections of the airfields; our docks are maybe three days from completion. The defences around all of the sites are completely in place."

"Right, thanks for the info. Tell Battle Groups Guardian and Manifold that if they see any Galdanian naval vessels, they're to keep weapons locked on and ready to fire if they give any indication of hostile intent. If they see transports, they're to fire immediately."

"Yessir. I'll pass that on at once."

Consul Supreme McCallister studied the map in front of him, hastily prepared for him moments after the peace negotiations had ended; the up-to-date locations of all three forces were shown. Reports from the F-22 flight commander, ground forces in the area and Vice-Admiral Greyes were reaching him via a large array of communications equipment that filled one of the former parlors of the Manor.

Over a dozen F-22 Raptors had been lost, bringing their number down to approximately eighty; in addition, fifteen Apache helicopters had been downed. Centralis had promised reinforcements, but that would take time...time he didn't have. More Galdanian aircraft were entering the area from southern Naori. Eredronian troops were falling back all across the city, joined by floods of civilians. Whatever Galdanian or NRA resistance met had been suppressed, but the troops had taken heavily losses.

-----

Colonel Moore studied the GPS readout in his lap while the tank rumbled forward at over 30 mph. The twenty M-1A2 Abrams had stopped briefly to refuel, and were now less than three minutes from the rear of the Galdanian armored columns.

http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/M1A2-running.jpg

Already, the rear artillery were entering to their range. Without slowing, the twenty Abrams targeted the Galdanian artillery, and fired off a barrage with their 120mm cannons. Reloading, the Abrams continued on toward the Galdanian tanks, hoping to get off the crucial first and second volleys before the tanks were able to respond.

Their F-22 fighter escort had moved ahead to engage the enemy aircraft as the M-1A2s readied to fire a second time. They did so, their 125mm shells slamming into the rear of the Galdanian tanks. The Abrams split into two groups, each veering away from each other; one group attacked the rear tanks a second time, while the other circled around to knock out any SAM units and artillery.

OOC: Mach 2? I guesws I'll lower the Jackal's speed to 3.72.
Jackals are not heavily equipped, as that would impair their speed, but they are super fast. That's about it. The Jackal II has more weaponry, and better systems.

And the reaction-dealies are similar to the things that America uses to stop mines and bombs from exploding by jamming frequencies and systems.

IC: Tomahawks hit some of the tanks, causing massive damage to what they hit. SAM sytems managed to take some down, but many Galdanians still lost their lives in the armoured shells of Galdania's tanks.

Artillery were damaged significantly by the unexpected Eredronian tank assault, but the Galdanian tanks were quick to react. They tuned the rear force against the Eredronian assault, firing their cannons over and over at the enemy. Galdanian Gor helicopters fired Deathscythe Missiles at the Eredronian tanks. The missiles were designed to penetrate the armour before detonating. The actual explosive in the missile was put more in the middle of the missile, so that it would explode when inside the vehicle, and through it's armour.

Galdanian tanks moved north from the west coast, attempting to pin the Eredronians from the north and south.

Eight Abrams tanks were lost in the first counter-volley fired by the Galdanian tanks and by the air-to-surface missiles of the helicopters, but did not hesitate in returning fire, their 120mm shells piercing the armor of the Galdanian tanks. The Apaches took advantage of the Galdanian helicopter's distraction and redoubled their attack, hoping to avenge those pilots shot down.

Five MLRS Rocket Artillery Systems had joined the three already stationed west of Tarasaki; all eight were moving towards Makatashi, accompanied by thirty old Naori Shermans, a dozen SAM/AA units, and ten M-113A3 APCs, each carrying troops. This group was heading NW, straight toward the city, while ten Shermans moved north of them, straight through the jungle, with over two thousand men, some in personnel carriers, others marching.

An additional twenty-four F-22 Raptors had arrived over Makatashi, replacing those that had left to refuel at Tarasaki.

C-5 Galaxy and other aerial and naval transports continued to arrive at Tarasaki; the Eredronian infantry in Tarasaki now numbered over 150,000, with nearly fifty M-1A2 Abrams, dozens of APCs, and heavy artillery and howitzers; the artillery were deploying west of Tarasaki to shell Galdanian military targets in southern Naori, as well as outside of Makatashi.

47 cruise missiles, each costing nearly 2 million U.S. dollers (if they had been made or bough through the use or money, which they weren't), were fired at Tarasaki and Makatashi. The missiles were at the vey least on par wqith the Tomahawks. At best, they were even better.

The Noyastrazna was one of the Galdanian Navy's finest ships, and certainly one of the largest. It had taken some time to produce, but the results were well worth it. It's huge 26 inch cannons pounded Makatashi, as Galdanian tanks moved to defend the rear. The Galdanian tanks were now spread out in a tight circle around the artillery, using what cover the battered buildings of Makatashi could provide to soften the enemy's blows. Still, reinforcements were oming in from the south. Nearly four thousand more men were schedualed for arrival at Makatashi. If possible, Leitenant Ama was to capture an Abrams tank for further reasearch, so that the Galdanian army could pinpoint the tank's weaknesses and possibly incorporate it into the Galdanian army. However, Leuitenant Ama was skeptical. She was well aware that Galdania's tanks were far superior to anything produced in Eredron.

From there patrol zone north of Naori, the four Virginia-class submarines slowly approached the two Galdanian contacts - large ships, judging by the radar screen. Cruising at 1/2 speed, the four submarines were all but invisible as they slowly journeyed towards their prey. After what felt like an eternity, the oppressive silence in the bridge was broken.

"Range to target," the captain of the lead submarine asked in a hushed voice.

"Fifteen miles," was the whispered reply.

The sonar pinged the two contacts at regular intervals, each time growing stronger.

As the submarines closed to four miles, they slowed to 1/4 speed. "Load all torpedo tubes," the captain instructed, just as the other three submarine crews were doubtlessly doing; no radio contact was to be made, except in the cases of extreme emergencies.

The two contacts - obviously battleships or some other immense vessels of war, did not appear to have detected the submarines as they passed within one mile.

"Slow to one-eighth speed." Now, but a few hundred feet away, the submarines waited almost at a standstill.

"Confirm torpedo status," the captain ordered.

"Confirmed; four torpedoes ready to launch."

"Fire tubes 1 and 2," the captain ordered.

"Torpedoes away!" came the almost shouted response.

From the four submarines came sixteen Mk 48 Adv. Heavyweight Torpedoes, all attached to the submarines by a thin wire; through this, the crew was able to direct the torpedoes at the targets, without having to worry about any countermeasures throwing the torpedoes off. Once the torpedoes were within a few feet of their target, the wires were cut.

"Dive the boat!" the captain ordered. "Make your depth six hundred feet! Increase to full speed."

"Aye sir," the XO said. "Depth six-zero-zero feet, speed 25 knots."

The submarines slowly gained speed as they passed deeper into the ocean, heading under their targets and beyond.

IC: Commander Matthew Kovar winced as he looked down from the windows of his advanced AWACS aircraft and saw the massive explosions tearing Makatashi apart - obviously from naval shells, as no tank carried weapons that big, and the trajectories were wrong for aircraft bombings. Scanning the radar screens, he saw he was correct - there were two massive Galdanian ships off the coast near Makatashi, the only ships he could see that could be responsible. He sent a blanket transmission to the the 15 of the 95 Razorwings under his command that carried anti-ship missiles.

"Squadron III, Squadron VI, Squadron VII, we have major hostiles off the coast, co-ordinates transmitted. Take 'em down, full spread. Over."

Affirmative responses came through from all three squadrons and the aircraft broke away from the main formation, heading for the two Galdanian battleships to unleash their deadly armament.

OOC: Along with some air-to-air missiles for use against other aircraft (four each), these particular planes are each equipped with six Harpoon-style missiles modified to hit missiles below the waterline, and two FAE missiles to cause general chaos among the targetted ships prior to the Harpoons arriving. Eight Ballistic Missile Submarines surfaced, and launched twenty-four Tomahawk cruise missiles at air fields, hangars, and other military sites in south Naori. Thirty minutes later, a second missile attack was fired, with sixteen cruise missiles heading to hit Galdanian tanks and artillery in Makatashi.

----

From their rather concealed position west of Makatashi, the five MLRS Rocket Artillery Systems fired off their second volley, each unit firing 12 missiles. Fifteen Shermans had spread out in a defensive net around them with a dozen SAM/AA units spread around, while the other fifteen Shermans had gone ahead, even now reaching the Eredronian Abrams battling the Galdanian tanks; another ten Shermans were taking up position north of them, near the coast, with two thousand men and armored support.

Ten APCs had moved closer to the initial landing point of the enemy paratroopers, and found it empty; they now expanded their search of the jungle, aided by reconnaissance planes.

------

The twelve M-1A2 Abrams left, now aided by fifteen old Shermans, swept past the Galdanian tanks, firing as they passed; they circled away and returned for a second volley as the Shermans cut to the other side and hit them from an opposite angle.

With the Galdanian armored offensive appearing to have halted, Eredronian soldiers were moving to take the city again; eight thousand strong, the army swept southeast to take out any Galdanian supply line. Another thousand men began occupying buildings across the city.

Admiral Hoffman swore; a transport for a sub was not a good trade, not at all.

"Well, there's not much we can do at present. They should have enough reserve air to hold out for a while, assuming they weren't actually destroyed, so we can try to retrieve them once the Galdanians move away. For now, tell our submarine commanders to leave attacking transports to the surface ships unless they can overwhelm the defending fleet as well."

"Yes, Admiral, a wise decision."

As the young communications officer turned to relay Hoffman's message, the Admiral pondered the next move. He'd sent almost a hundred Razorwings to Makatashi, and they could be expected to turn the tide decisively. Now, what to do about everything else - the other two task forces were still a day or two away, but the Centralis ground facilities were complete, so they could begin oeprations in earnest.

'The first priority,' he thought, 'is to hold Makatashi. It's quite deep within Northern Naori, so cutting their supply lines shouldn't be too hard... time, I think, to call in the Raven Guard.'

"Mr. President, Admiral Hoffman is requesting permission to deploy the Raven Guard to interdict Galdanian supply lines to Makatashi. I'd say grant it; they're brilliant for that kind of stuff, and cutting off those lines would be a big help."

"I agree, Minister, tell him I said do it, and tell the Guard to move out. They should be airdropping in within a few hours."

As Minister Alvarex conveyed the authorisation to the Admiral, a loud siren suddenly cut through all other sound in the War Room. Missile Launch Detected.

"What's the target!?" Mordenhein screamed, trying to make himself heard. Looking up at the wall screen - which had now changed to a larger map showing the flight path of the missiles - he felt a momentary sense of relief; they weren't aimed at Centralis. ABM? Is that...Anti-Ballistic Missile?

We do have Sturm-Lufften, but it is an intertwined ground and space system. The sattelites fire lasers to MISDIRECT missiles, not destroy them. They use various jamming techniques, but the ground force is what blows the missiles out of the sky.

Besides, how would you know where to look for ou sattelite?

Well, if it's going to be useful, it would have to be in geostationary orbit over Galdania, or else an enemy could simply launch while it was on the wrong side of the planet - so that would give at least a general area. As for the rest - it would just have to be intelligence information and looking for it.

And if you did find it, how would you know it was ours? It looks just like any of the other countless thousands sent up by any nation in the NS world.

Well, if it had fired lasers to destroy missiles, as I thought, rather than merely misdirecting them, I would think that kind of stuff would be quite hard to disguise. Given what it actually does, however, you're quite correct.

Galdanian tanks pushed up from the south, infantry moking encampments along the roads, handing out food to the impoverished people of Naori. Suppl routes were heavily defended, with mostly infantry holding them. Artillery were mounted in most of the places, with AT turrets constructed at major points. Camoflauged pillboxes were scattered around the jungle area, ready to take out any enemy soldiers that wandered too close to the supply lines...

A Galdanian civilian transport, carrying 368 people, all civilians, was sunk by a Centralian missile. The ship's passengers were to be hospital staff and techers for Naori's new Universal Healthcare and Education system.

The missile sunk the ship, taking all the books, medicine, and other materials on board with it. It also took the lives of 169 promising young professionals, whose lives were never allowed to be devoted to the Naorian people.

Despite the prescence of clearly military vessels in the convoy, the civilian ship was directly targetted.

However, we wish to most vehemently protest Galdania's actions in transporting both civilians and military personnel in identical vessels, making it effectively impossible to distinguish between them. While more care will be taken in the future to avoid such incidents, unless clear delineation between civilian and military vessels can be provided, the repitition of such tragedies is almost inevitable.

"All right, tell them I'll do what I can. A few squadrons of Razorwings with anti-ship missiles ought to do it."

* * *

Approximately thirty minutes later, a circling group of 18 Razorwings accompanied by by a pair of tanker aircraft broke away from the fleet and flew overland, heading for the Genyan fleet on the other side of Naori. Their orders were to fly as high as possible to escape ground fire, and, when they reached the Genyan fleet, unleash every missile they had and obliterate them.

OOC: 12 of the Razorwings have nothing but anti-ship missiles - 4 FAEs and 8 standard - and the other six have nothing but air-to-air missiles, to defend the rest. The FAEs will be launched first, with the others fired afterwards so they will arrive after the FAEs detonate.

Fifteen Tu-160E Blackjacks took off from the NRMC, heading to Naori at over 1300 mph. From an altitude of 50,000 feet, the strategic bombers approached the Galdanian artillery and tanks south of Makatashi, as well as supply lines coming from southern Naori.

After first firing almost two hundred RK-55 cruise missiles conventionally armed at the artillery located south of the city, the bombers dropped over 500,000 pounds of free-fall HE bomb, hitting not only the artillery but the stream of trucks, tanks and other vehicles supplying the Galdanian forces in northern Naori.

--

The eight Abrams tanks began heading west away from the Galdanian tanks; running low on both munitions and fuel, the M-1A2s were withdrawing behind the infantry lines of the Eredronian troops holding position there.

APCs moving through the jungle had encountered the Zefyrz paratroopers and engaged them in a series of fights throughout the jungle while reinforcements of 2,000 moved to block their escape.

In Tarasaki, over 200,000 soldiers prepared to move out as final preparations were made on the nearly 150 M-1A2 Abrams and other armored vehicles. Offensive action would take place following a confirmation of the orders from Military Command.

Heavy jamming from the Razorwings allowed them to escape the full force of the missiles, but this merely reduced the effects from total obliteration to heavy damage. Five of the six air-defence Razorwings were shot down, although three managed to launch missiles before being destroyed, and four of the twelve anti-ship aircraft were also lost. Fortunately, most of the pilots managed to eject, with seven out of nine pilots escaping and drifting down toward the sea on parachutes.

The remaining Razorwings let fly at their targets, the Genyan ships, before turning back, relying upon the FAEs and air-to-air rockets to cause enough chaos for them to escape.

OOC: This is all considered to be happening before anything was heard of this peace deal, so it shouldn't be an excuse to call off the deal. A total of 33 radar-guided air-to-air missiles were launched, and eight of the anti-ship Razorwings fired their full payload (one launched before being destroyed, the other three failed).

The USSK must protest at firstly the escalation of the Naori situation-100,000 or so troops is a large amount for a nation that wished for "peace" quickly and blamed us for slowing down this process. Secondly we must protest at the involvement of Centralis, who as far as we can see has no agenda but a delight in destruction. This is not WWX. The Paratroopers of the 22nd KPR who were involved in operation Sunny Day are currently stationed in Murushima, performing peacekeeping and security roles. Eredron would not be opposed to the possibility of a peace treaty ending this conflict, provided that the following terms are included:

1.) Galdania agrees to pay full reparation for the damage caused by its deliberate and intentional military strikes against Eredronian cities and other civilian sites, including the ESEA launch area.

2.) Those officials responsible for the aforementioned war crimes are given over to Eredronian officials to be tried for their crimes.

3.) Those members of the NRA responsible for the Eredronian embassy bombing are allowed to be tried in Eredron's courts, and be held accountable for their terrorist actions.

Plenzonia
06-01-2004, 03:21
While Plenzonia might have arrived to late to take place in the fighting, we feel a certain duty to aid our allies to help maintain this time of peace.

To begin with, we simply wish to try to maintain this cease-fire by pointing out a few factors.

First of all, a cease-fire is signed, not a full treaty of peace, therefore when the time exires in the treaty there is no binding reason to stop EITHER side from striking at the other, to avoid this maybe a more permanant treaty should be signed.

Second of all it's perfectly understandable that you are worried about a build-up of enemy forces, but the unfortunate fact is Southern Naori is now independant from Naori, and therefore anyone with Southern Naori's blessing could station troops there just as the same can be said for Naori proper. The use of troops for a sneak attack later is just one reason they could be there, peace-keeping, rebuilding and defending from foreign powers don't don't want to obey the treaty are all other, more practical reasons why outsiders would be allowed to station troops there.

Since Plenzonia's personal goal is to help Southern Naori prosper I would like to propose that a limited amount of foreign troops be alowed in Naori and Southern Naori, proportionate to each other so that neither force would be able to overwhelm the other? An agreement such as this would help to ease the paranoia of one side striking at the other, and allow each side to respectively rebuild their host-nations.

With that said, to ease tensions Plenzonia will not pour armed troops into Southern Naori but rather supply engineers and building supplies to help out those who might have been rendered homeless by the wars, and to improve the infrastructure in general to better aid civilian life.

Galdania supports a demilitarized zone, but we will keep whatever forces Southern Naori's government allows us to in their nation.

We agree to none of Eredron's terms. We cxould just as easily claim that Centralis is guilty of the same crimes for hitting our civilian ship, and Eredron's missile strikes on Galdanian civilian workers in Southern Naori.

You attempt to compare your deliberate strikes with the unintentional damage done to those civilian personnel in Naori? The incendiary bombs - perhaps more suitably called weapons of mass destruction - dropped over our cities caused hundreds of billions of Marks in damage, and resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of civilians.

When you transport civilians and military in identical vessels, what do you expect to happen? While this doesn't make what happened any less of a tragedy, it does place it in an entirely different category from Galdania's deliberate firebombing of Eredronian cities.

From our sattelites, Eredron's military bases migh have looked just like their bourgeoisie mansions.

Ever hear the phrase 'Forgive and Forget'? :D

Eredron is prepared to recognize the independence of South Naori following the signing of a peace treaty ending the state of hostilities existing between all powers involved, and the government of Galdania agreeing to pay 200 billion in reparations to the Dominion and Principalities of Eredron over a three year period.

Regardless of Galdania's opinions on this matter, we deplore Eredron's claims. The people of southern Naori are now free thanks to the valour and persistance of Galdanian military personnel. The Scandinavian forces in Naori will not cease hostilities on Eredron's selfish demands.

Thank you for your support and praise. We could not have freed Naori without Red Scandinavia's help.

Galdania is willing to sign a peace treaty, however, we will pay nothing to the capitalist government of Eredron, which is already stuffed to bursting with it's vile 'money'.

The nearly 250,000 troops stationed in Imperial Naori have been placed on high alert status, following intercepted communications between known NRA members and unknown parties by the Military Intelligence Division. An unnamed MID official reported that several 'visible sites' were mentioned as possible targets of attacks, prompting an increase in security around major military bases and government buildings, and other locations of significance.

The terrorist group NRA is considered responsible for over a dozen insurgency attacks against Eredronian soldiers and Naori policemen, and is believed to be operating in southern Naori, where the group is protected by Galdania.

An state of war is officially in place with Galdania, although an informal cease fire has existed for a week.

While Galdania's government denies funding the NRA still operating in Northern Naori, some Southerners or rougue Galdanian military officers may be aiding the NRA cells in the North.

We will, of course, offer santuary to any NRA member or Northern Naorian who manages to cross the border.

Although many remain skeptical, the Senate of Majorities ratified a peace treaty by 235-43, effectively ending the state of war that has existed with Galdania for months. Faced with the financial burden of maintaining a military force of over 250,000 troops while managing the governmental affairs of northern Naori, Consul Supreme McCallister approved resuming peace talks with the Galdanian government; after delivering the treaty to the Senate and urging its ratification, McCallister reaffirmed Eredron's commitment to the people of Naori, 'North and South', and promised that Eredron would maintain a presence in Naori.

Over a four month period, Eredron will scale back the size of its military force in Imperial Naori, with plans to leave 85,000 troops stationed in Naori, with the predominate military base being in Tarasaki. Governing authority is being turned over to Naori citizens((ie the player Naori)), with Vice-Admiral Greyes stepping down permanently as governor of the provisional government as soon as possible.

Private businesses are being awarded contracts to continue the development of Naori's infrastructure, while the Ministry of Commerce develops a plan to increase the number of goods capable of being exported from Naori.

A special military group dubbed Force Stryker has been assigned to deal with the NRA insurgency in northern Naori; working with local civilians and MID, Stryker is aimed at stopping NRA members from crossing into the North, as well as destroying known NRA bases of operation; reports from military sources confirm that over three hundred people have been detained on suspicion of NRA involvement.

...following the recent peace treaty between Galdania and Eredron, the Centralis government has announced that troop withdrawals from Naori will begin today. According to Ministry for Defence sources, most front-line combat units will be withdrawn, leaving behind a skeleton force to keep the military bases in working order...
